I have a 2007 jeep compass with 104000 miles on it. The air bag light came on while driving, it was intermittent at first when the steering wheel was turned by the end of the same day the light remained on.the next day i took it in to the dealer, they diagnosed a bad clock spring. The technician noted it looked very similar to the jeep wrangler clock springs that are currently under recall.

Driving and sugar dropped i hit a tree.side air bags deployed but front airbag did not.i hit the tree head on. 2007 jeep compass.

As i was accelerating (after stopping at a stop sign), the vehicle shut off and steering became very difficult.i attempted to try to restart and that's when a lightning bolt icon was displayed.i looked in the manual and found out that the lightning bolt icon means that there is an issue with the electronic throttle control system.after approximately 10 minutes, i tried to start the car.the car started, however i decided to have the car towed to the nearest dealer due to grave concern about the issue recurring on a major highway.about 3 months prior to the above incident, i was driving up a hill and stopped at a stop sign.when i began to accelerate, the car felt as though it was not moving.i pressed the gas pedal down to the floor in an attempt to drive through the intersection.the rpm gauge was at its max, however the car was barely moving (it was moving at approximately less than 5 mph).the car felt as though it was going to stall, but it crept along at a slow pace.when i arrived at my destination, i turned off the car.later, when i restarted the car the issue did not reoccur.

Without warning, my 2007 jeep compass completely died and would not start.i had it towed to a mechanic who initially thought it was the computer.after further testing, however, they determined that the totally integrated power module (tpim) was defective and had also fried out the computer, requiring that both parts be replaced for a total of nearly $2,000.given that this is a defect that many jeep users are experiencing, the part is on back order and i've been without a vehicle for my 3 year-old daughter for nearly 2 weeks.the jeep could have stalled out while driving or could have left us stranded.chrysler needs to issue a recall on their faulty tpim's and replace all the damage that they cause!

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4.while driving approximately 55 mph, the contact smelled plastic burning and then smoke appeared from the rear of the vehicle.before she could stop the vehicle, it caught fire.the contact was able to exit the vehicle before it was destroyed.the cause of the failure was believed to be electrical.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 28,000.

While driving at about 35mph my car buck and almost stalled out.it seemed like it lost a little power after that.when i reached a stop sign approximately 1/2 mile down the road and attempted to accelerate, i had no power and could not break 10mph.my electronic throttle control indicator light is now flashing and the esp/tcs light is on steady.the only error code i am getting is for the #1 o2 seor because i damaged it taking it out to eliminate a clogged cadtilac converter.at times it takes 3 seconds for my car to even attempt to start (meaning nothing is happening).it has a rougher idle then it used to have.

Ignition failed to recognize key.could not start vehicle.had to invest money to replace ignition, key, and reprogram computer system.

The tipm has a known defect.it has cause the left headlight, taillight, and blinker to malfunction as well as stall while traveling at high speeds. I was told by the jeep dealership that i would need to replace this at my own cost even though it is a highly known issue with their vehicles many of which have already been recalled.

Parking brake doesn't work and the stability of the vehicle is not good it wobbles around turns and i'm afraid the vehicle will roll one day.this unstable condition will happen on the city highway and city streets while in motion driving.i put on the parking brake and it does not stop the vehicle because i can drive if i forgot i put it on without any problems and i'll hear the beeping go off and put my parkingbrake on. I feel as if one day to school my vehicle will rock unstable and cause me to wreck even though i am very careful.

I bought a 2007 jeep compass 11 months ago from lithe chevrolet/dodge/jeep. It had 64,000 miles on it.in the 11 months that i have had the car the rack and pinion and steering pump have had to be replaced twice. At my expense. The ball joints have been replaced. My struts and brand new tires are destroyed. The whole bottom of the vehicle feels like it is going to separate from the frame. I started having these problems within 1 week of owning the vehicle. The dealership would not honor the warranty and would blow it off as me being "silly".the check engine light has been on 3 times and rather than fixing the car they just "reset" the engine light.

Problems after fueling:after filling my vehicle up, without fail, the engine stalls, shuts off, violently jerks and/or decreases speed and then returns to regular driving conditions. I have changed the gas cap, gas stations and octane levels, as well as the amount of gas consumed, all without any resolve. Although i never tip off the gas tank, i will fill the gas tank and i experience erratic behavior without fail. It does not matter if i sit at the gas pump or drive away immediately, the vehicle will enter a distressing routine of jolting, and turning off. This has become a safety issue at times, the unpredictable behavior has happened in traffic while crossing busy intersections, driving down the highway as well as leaving the pump. If the vehicle is not in motion it will shut off completely. This occurs whether i'm still at the pump preparing to drive off, stopping at a stop sign, or while waiting traffic light. The jerking erratic behavior occurs anytime the vehicle is in motion. It does not matter if i'm going 5mph or 60mph. It always occurs withing 3 miles of filling up the vehicle. Time is not the remedy but rather distance as the vehicle my experience erratic behavior multiple times. This issue started 3 years ago and continues today.please investigate this growing problem among jeep vehicles to avoid future major accidents or fatalities. Concerned jeep compass owner.

The vehicle's engine has a consistent tendency to sputter, hesitate, and/or completely shut-off, especially after fueling. This has happened on busy roadways and and intersections. We have attempted to have the problem diagnosed and repaired but i quickly realized they had no idea what the real problem was and was employing a shot-in-the-dark method. Since then i have found several other owners with this same problem but with no response from jeep/chrysler/dodge. I am the primary driver of this vehicle now, as i do not want my wife and child to be subjected to this potential hazard.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. While driving approximately 2 mph, a clicking noise emitted from the transmission or engine. The contact stated that this was a recurring failure. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,918. Updated 09/03/15*lj updated 12/8/2015

After fiil up with gas it shut down while running at least 3 times.

Engine stalls after refilling gas to "full" tank. It happens after tank refill only. It happens within a quarter mile of the gas station. Today it happened while i was in traffic. I searched this issue online and there multiple reports of the same issue for compasses and patriots. I don't think there is a dependency on speed. It is more likely the time after refilling and starting engine.

Update to complaint. Jeep dealer just called and they are replacing the fuel tank and charcoal canister was told this was a common issue and they had seen it before . The rollover valve in the fuel tank was bad and sticking open allowing fuel to dump into the evap system filling the charcoal canister with gas causing the stall .this is a major safety issue since a faulty valve wont shut off in the event of a crash causing a fire and can also cause a accidentfrom stalling in traffic while in motion and the steering locking up. I have been in the auto repair business for 30 years at a dealership and seen a lot of issues but nhtsa really need to address this problem before someone is killed if they have not already.jeep compass stalls after refueling in motion on highway, steering locks up when car stalls and makes jeep uncontrollable. Had jeep towed to dealer and they found a bad charcoal canister was "full of fuel" replaced canister drove for one week and refueled managed to go 1 mile and jeep stalled again at about 45 mph . Got jeep stopped and restarted managed to get the last 1/2 mile home and it stalled again pulling in drive way and almost ran thru the front of my house before stopping. Extremely unsafe car returning back to the dealer service dept for the 3rd time . After reading online i have found this to be a common issue on the jeep compass some resulting in accidents from loss of control. I am finding the rollover valve is bad allowing fuel to be pushed back thru the evap system causing the stall

Engine stall after fueling. After filling tank the engine will stall when in motion on highway was told by dealer there was a design flaw in the evap system purge control valvethat allows fuel to enter the charcoal canister if you fill the tank when fueling. When this happens the jeep will stall when in motion on the highway or city traffic and the steering is non responsive major safety issue jeep is aware of the problem and has a service bulletin out on it but offers no fix other than do not fill up your tank. This almost resulted in a major accident on interstate 95 on 11/14/2015 this need to be a recall it is not a isolated problem read any google search on line and there are thousand of owners with the same issue trying to find out what i wrong and a fix

Car stalls after refueling. Problem begins a few minutes after filling the tank. I have to sit at the gas station and try keeping it running before leaving, it is not safe in traffic. It only does it after refueling. I am told i need to replace the gas tank to correct the problem. They tell me gas is going back into the charcoal canister messing with the computer. A bad valve in the gas tank, requiring the entire gas tank to be replaced. I have been doing some research on this issue and finding a lot of people having the same issue it is not just a jeep compass issue.

The vehicle failed inspection last week due tox58 front/rear crossmember being completely rusted and in dangerous condition.apparently this was under warranty because this has been a serious issue. I was not aware of the problem nor the warranty and now i'm stuck with a car that is not drivable.

I have an 07 jeep compass. I have owned it for 5 years and i have a major saftey issues. Gas light came on so i filled up. Got a few yards from the pump and it stalled. No check engine light or anything came on. Was able to pull into a parking spot. Every time i turn the car on it sputters a bit then runs. After about a minute or two of idling it stalls. Tried letting it idle and revving the engine. My car stopped in everywhere in roads, highways, and thanks god i didn't get into any accident. I searched online and it turned out that many jeep/chrysler owners have this issue and there was a recall for jeep compass 2011/2012 for this issue but other models.(https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2013/rconl-13v120-0123.pdf). Please check this thread for people complaining about the same issue (https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t29898_ds631498). I hope that you solve this issue that probably thousands of cars is having. Thank you.

Every time i fuel up vehicle it stalls leaving the gas station. Usually only a few hundred feet , it shuts down , i have to quickly put it into park and restart the engine. I now only put in 8 gals when its low on the gauge. Since then it wont stall. The car was accelerating leaving the station stopping in front of coming traffic.

I bought the jeep compass around july or aug. No sooner then i bought it it would jerk when i would take off. Then my rpms would rev up. Lile its not shifting the rifht way. Also my jeep has a hard time going up hill. I don't feel like my jeep is safe and it scares me. Also my engine light came on today.

2007 jeep compass rallye edition with 37,000 miles.there was a metallic creaking / clunk from the front of the vehicle, and had it inspected by a local mechanic .both lower ball joints were found to be bad with excessive play...ball joints were replaced w/ new. Engine oil pump also failed @ approx 15,000 miles and caused engine failure was replaced under warranty after a month of waiting..

The tipm has a known defect.it has cause the left headlight, taillight, and blinker to malfunction as well as stall while traveling at high speeds. I was told by the jeep dealership that i would need to replace this at my own cost even though it is a highly known issue with their vehicles many of which have already been recalled.

When attempting to fill the gas tank at any commercial gas station the pump nozzle shuts off immediately.it's almost impossible to fill the gas tank since only a few ounces of fuel is released before the nozzle shuts off.sometimes just before the nozzle shuts, gas and bubbles are released out of the filler neck. This problem will cause the vehicle to be worthless for a trade -in or a personal sale.to repair the problem the gas tank and filler tube must be replaced.the cost is around $500. Plus labor.the flap valve can't be repaired since it's connected to the vehicle computer and will show a safety warning stating that the roll over safety feature is disabled.there are other model years of jeeps that had a recall and this 2007 model should have a safety recall.

Fuel overflows and spills out of gas tank opening when filling up.

While filling the fuel tank on my 2007 jeep compass, when the pump shut off, a large amount of gas regurgitated from the filler neck spilling all over me, the ground and my car.

When fueling, the nozzle from the gas pump immediately shuts off as if the tank is full. It takes a lot of effort to fuel up without fuel splashing out and overflowing on the car and pavement. I have used different fuel stations, changed the angle of the nozzle, fueled up at different temperatures, changed the evap canister but still the problem exists.after research, i found that i am not the only jeep owner that has this problem. It is the one-way rollover valve that is located in the gastank. Also other cars made from the same manufacturer have a recall for this same perilous problem. I am writing this complaint to get a recall for my car and any other jeeps that have the same faulty one-way valve in the gas tank.

The 2007 jeep compass purchased as my daughters first car has experienced stalling issues upon refueling from day one. The car was serviced by the selling dealership, brandon honda, on several occasions and no repair was deemed necessary. I was advised the car was also sent to a neighboring jeep dealer and the issue could not be duplicated. I then took the car to a different jeep dealer, jerry ulm and was advised the issue was identified with the first code returned. The canister and solenoid was replaced in 5/16 and the car did not stall again until december.a couple of weeks ago upon refueling the car stalled again. The car has stalled three more times and is scheduled to be serviced at jerry ulm again tomorrow. There are hundreds of similar complaints online, yet no recall has been issued for this extreme safety issue.my concern for the safety and reliability of this car is at an all time high due to the reoccurrence and no warning of the stall- the car just shuts down silently. I appreciate your time.

Stalls or hesitates after filling the tank.once gas level goes down a little the problem disappears.faulty vapor/liquid separator valve located at the top of the fuel tank.car stalls and steering wheel locks up.starts back up with no problem but is dangerous if this happens on highway or in heavy traffic.

Right after i fill the gas tank of my 2007 jeep compass the engine will stall. Typically, if i am stopped at a stop light less than a quarter mile from the gas station where i filled up the engine will just die on me. It will start right back up again and i don't experience any trouble after burning a little fuel.i am not getting any lights on my dashboard and there aren't any engine codes being thrown. Also for the record i am not overfilling my gas tank, at least the automatic shutoff on the pump seems to stop when it should.if i fill the tank 1-2 gallons less this does not happen. When the car dies i loose complete control of all electronics and power steering and braking. This has happened many times on city streets, pulling into a highway from leaving a gas station, stationary, and in motion. This happens every fill up.

I have had this jeep for little over a year and have had to replace the fuel pump, the drive chain, front control arms and now i am told that the subframe is rusted and apparently cracked as it makes awfully load noises in the back.i have contacted a jeep dealer to ck on the replacement of the subframe. I agree, do not buy a jeep.

There's a fuel issue, as you top off the gas drive it a half a mile the car jerks and shuts off steering wheel locks up, after a few times of it happening after fueling the car up. Its dangerous and a safety issue. Looked it up and a bunch of people with my model had the same issue and it has to due with fuel getting in the evap chamber which requires a full tank replacement reported from multiple owners of my model. Which is an emissions and safety issue. Its in motion less than a mile after fueling completely when it jerks then stalls.

After fueling vehicle to full tank, after less than a mile traveled, while driving, vehicle sputters and stalls out. Will usually restart after vehicle comes to a stop. Happens after 90-95% of fuel fillups. Has been happining for a few months now, have noticed in internet forums that this is happening to other drivers as well of this type of vehicle

After filling the fuel tank on my jeep compass, it goes about two miles then it stalls..... After some research this a common problem on these.... I don't understand why no safety recall... Someone is going get hurt.... The vehicle loses all power and stalls out.

After filling up the gas tank with fuel, the jeep will begin to stutter and the engine will die.sometimes it happens immediately but other times it takes a few minutes and will happen while in traffic.after the intial stuttering and dying, the car runs fine after restarting but this happens with every fuel fill-up.

After filling the fuel tank, vehicle, runs rough/ stalls puling into traffic . Problem dissipates after several minutes of driving until the next fill up where the issue repeats. There are multiple entries of the same issue on the internet. This is a safety issue also affect the jeep patriots, which also needs to be investigated. Car stalls a few times after filling up gas tank. Then it runs fine. Happens right after you leave gas station, in motion or at idle .

Every single time i fill up my gas tank to full and leave the gas station it stalls while driving. It doesn't matter what gas station or grade of gas, same result. Very dangerous because i drive on the highway.

This is the same complaint that numerous people have report about the fuel system. My 2007 jeep compass will begin to sputter and eventually shut-off after every fill up with gas. The problem is with the fuel vaporizer and other components in the gas tank. If you fill the gas tank up all the way to the top with gas, it will cause this failure of rough idling and shutting the engine off every time, which is extremely dangerous while drive because it locks the steering wheel and transmission also. Chrysler has fixed this exact same issue in several other makes and models of their vehicles that were manufactured around this same year. But, they have not issued a recall to fix this same dangerous problem with the jeep compass yet. At this point, i'm contemplating contacting my lawyer to see if this can be better brought to chrysler's attention, as i'm certain that everyone that has a jeep compass near 2007-2009 year model is having the same issue's with the fuel system. My suggestion to anyone reading this, is to not fill the gas tank all the way up while pumping gas. Do not "top off the gas." this is a temporary fix to the issue, as it allows gas vapors to expel properly. Also, if the tank was filled too much at this gas station (topped off), and this stuttering does occur, it can help to stop and remove the gas cap for a short while until the gas has been ran down in the tank enough.

When you feel the vehicle the vehicle will cut out and stopped in traffic after reading on several web sites this is not a isolated incident this is a majority incident. It only happens after you fill the tank full it will stop with no warning and mesa for 10 to 15 seconds before it'll restart again. If this is not a safety issue i don't know what is somebody's going to get killed.

Fuel-spit-back every time when i fill up my tank. Slow filling with back up gas. I read on the internet this is a known problem for chrysler, but still why is not a recall done?

Every time for the last 10 fill ups the car will stall and finally quit, usually in traffic. It will start right back but going a few yards it starts stalling again. I keep it from dieing completely by putting it in neutual and giving it gas like at a red light. Also sometimes its hard putting gas in no matter how much is in the tank. It fills like its full even though it may just have a quarter tank, half tank, etc.

After the car is refueled, the engine will stall out while it is stationary. It then stalls out a second time after i drive a little while i am stopped at a light or stationary. I do nothing special while filling it up besides letting the pump stop it when it is full. This problem has occurred every time after i fill up since about 125,000 miles. Took the car to the mechanic and he said he could not find anything wrong.

After fueling the vehicle from any level to full the car will stall when at idle within 5 minutes of run-time. It will stall at least two more times and then run fine for the remainder of the tank. On exam by our mechanic it appears to be caused by the rollover valve in the gas tank which requires complete tank replacement. This is a safety concern because the valve is malfunctioning and could cause fuel to spill in event of a roll over. It also is a safety issue from stalling in traffic causing a road hazard.

Every time after refueling, my 2007 jeep compass will stall and/or buck and almost stall soon afterwards.it's a very dangerous scenario that leaves me without power steering usually in the middle of traffic.the problem seems to be a common problem among jeeps/chrysler products because there are many references to the issue online.for example:https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t29898_ds631498for now, all i can do is not completely fill my tank for it not to happen.i'm not what the fix, if any, there is yet.it only occurs right after refueling.then the vehicle is fine until the next time it's refueled.

Shortly after refueling, the car stalled out when idling at a stop light. This stalling has happened several times after this, always immediately after refilling the tank. Usually the car will stall shortly after you drive away from the gas station and slow down or come to a stop. The car will start up again but may stall again if you only travel a short distance and slow down or stop. The next time you drive, the car is usually ok and has no further problems until the tank is filled again. After reading several internet forums, this problem is quite common to chrysler vehicles. The problem is the vapor/liquid separator valve located at the top of the fuel tank. The valve fails and allows liquid into the charcoal canister/emissions system. Liquid fuel then gets sent into the manifold intake by mistake which stalls the car out. This could be a major safety issue if the car stalls while you are turning into traffic and it also causes you to lose steering and braking power. It is obviously a design flaw by chrysler and the only fix is to have a whole new gas tank installed because there isn't a way to just replace just the faulty valve. It is built in to the tank.

.my 2007 jeep compass 4x4 ltd stall when i fuel it up. I have replaced both sending units and the vapor canister. My mechanic says the rollover valve in the tank needs to be replaced since this is a common problem with other jeep compass and patriot vehicles. My mechanic must replace the gas tank as the rollover valve cannot be replaced to avoid this problem in the future. This is a common problem with both of these vehicles and can cause an accident. Vehicle stalls every time when coming to a stop directly after fueling vehicle. It will stall 4-6 times but will start back up with no problems. After vehicle has been on the road with rpm's up for a few minutes the problem goes away. It is very dangerous to pull out into traffic or trying to turn a corner and have your vehicle stall. This should be a recall from jeep...it's not safeupdated 09/01/15*lj updated 10/26/2017

Fuel tank--jeep dealer says my entire fuel tank needs to be replaced.the tank only allows a tiny amount of fuel to go in when pumping gas.this is my first time being a jeep owner and it seems ridiculous to have to replace such a major part.

Having problems when fueling the vehicle. The pump constantly cuts out and once you do get gas in the tank after filling up, the car hesitates and actually stalls out as you drive - .has stalled 3 times in 1 day and several other times. The fueling issues have been going on for several months, but now the stalling and hesitation of motorissue is safety issue.

We purchased the vehicle new in january 2008.it has less than 100,000 miles on it.the jeep has been a very reliable vehicle, until recently.within the past month, it has stalled on us five times (twice on a four lane highway), no malfunction light. When it stalls, the steering wheel locks up.also, when refueling the tank, the pump shut offs after every $0.10-$0.20 worth of gas.refueling the tank takes approximately 10-15 minutes.originally, we believed it was the pumps at a certain gas station; however, trips to numerous gas stations resulted in the same issue.the jeep stalls only after refueling.i began researching online, and i thought the issue might have been a clogged evap system.however, we brought it to our mechanics; unfortunately, it needs a new fuel tank.the repair estimate totals $1,131.07 for parts, labor, and taxes.our mechanics, thought there could have been a recall on the fuel tank, or possibly an extended manufacturer's warranty, there wasn't. I began researching the aforementioned fuel tank issue, i found numerous complaints about the fuel tank.the manufacturer has been notified of the issues from jeep owners, myself included.why has fca us, llc "chrysler" not issued a recall?does someone have to be injured or worse for chrysler to take notice?this defect is extremely dangerous, and i believe it must be addressed as soon as possible!http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2007/jeep/compass/fuel+systemhttp://www.carcomplaints.com/jeep/compass/2007/fuel_system/fuel_propulsion_system.shtml

I bought a used 2007 jeep compass 4x4 for my son in april 2015. He is just learning to drive. After filling up the gas tank and pulling out of the gas station the car slowed to an idle, steering wheel locked, and the car stalled.it turned back on but could hardly make a turn onto the street without almost stalling again. Once it started going a few miles up the road it did not stall. This happened every time we filled the tank.we cannot fill the tank. I am very scared to let an almost 16 year old drive a car that is so dangerous and fear he may get killed when the car stalls. He will be driving this car to school every day and with winter approaching quickly i will be praying.he knows not to fill it all the way up but i don't feel this should be the case for anyone. I purchased an extended warranty but this issue is not covered. I also mentioned this issue to several mechanics and they have no idea what is causing this to happen.

I bought this car for my daughter used and the fuel mileage was poor.i have had this car to multiple shops and even a dodge dealer who did not diagnose the problem correctly.i found a new garage that was very honest and they found that the valve inside the gas tank that controls where the fuel gets transferred to was faulty.this caused gas to be sent to the catalytic converter and vapors to be sent to the engine causing the car to stall within a 1/8 a 1/2 of a mile after filling the tank.the car would basically shut down and stall out causing control issues.this also caused damage to the converters and also the coal filter on the gas tank.it has taken many dealers to find one that could diagnose the problem and after about $3000 in repairs it is finally being fixed.this fault in the valve could cause a fire with heat in the converter and is very dangerous.i have seen a lot of information online with other dodge compass customers having this problem and the only way to fix it, is to replace the gas tank.the otheroption is to never fill up your gas tank.this is a safety concern that i believe should be looked into.

Car stalls after filling the gas tank.

I seen that there has been a recall on the same make, model and year for transmission problems...i just purchase the jeep from a car lot2/2017 had a 30 day warranty during that time they had to work on 6 times just made my second payment and i can't accelerate after it gets up to 40 first rpms didn't move at all the first time it happened now rmp and going up and won'tgo down....i feel that it's could be a safety issue cause if i'm on the highway and it happens with no warning someone following close behind me that could ended badly and after looking into the problem looks like it happens alot with this model....

As i wrote in previous comments, i have spent over $11,000 over this period of time. I have replaced the wheel hubs, tie rod ends, the front suspension and all rods concerning the rear. I have replaced the transmission at 98,000 miles costing me $3200. The transmission could not be repaired, the whole transmission had to be replaced. And yes i have 158,000 miles, but if you compare $11,000 just on repairs to this pile of crap. I have complained before, and nothing happens. As i was told there were 14,000 complaints just what i have complained about and still no recalls. I have asked if they could just look into why jeep compass owners are going through tie rod ends, wheel hubs, suspensions.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. The contact stated that the gear was stuck in the park position, without any warning indicators. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired.the dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 178,255.

This jeep compass was purchased for our college age daughter in march 2019, today while driving, her rear driver side wheel made a loud noise then felt like it 'dropped' and upon getting stopped, she didn't wreck thank god, as she was pulling into our drive. Upon inspection it was discovered that her rear crossmember had rusted into. I searched and found that there had at one time been a recall on this particular part due to excessive rust from the salt belt states. We are in ky but when we purchased the vehicle it was titled in michigan, which is most definitely in that salt belt. I am not sure why this recall was not completed by the former owner but i believe it should be corrected no matter the age of the vehicle. This could have caused my daughter to be in a very serious accident. We had no information about any recall that had previously been issued.

Jeep compass stalls after refueling in motion on highway, steering locks up when car stalls and makes jeep uncontrollable. Extremely unsafe carreturning back to the dealer service dept for the 3rd time . After reading online i have found this to be a common issue on the jeep compasssome resulting in accidents from loss of control.i am finding the rollover valve is bad allowing fuel to be pushed back thru the evap system causing the stall

Cvt transmission started making noise and not shifting at 42000 miles.no accident occurred but since jeep/dodge service departments are not authorized to perform maintenance on cvt transmissions it had to be replaced.due to issues with jeep/dodge a new transmission would have been on backorder for a minimum of 30 days. I was not able to wait that long so i found a low mileage transmission in a salvage yard and had the service department install it.because i purchased my jeep approx. 2 weeks before the lifetime powertrain warranty was initiated i had to bear the entire cost.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4.the contact stated that the vehicle would shut off while idling and with the clutch in gear.on august 19, 2007, while driving 5 mph, the vehicle shut off.she also stated that when the vehicle was in reverse and the clutch was down, the vehicle forced itself to drive backwards.afterwards, the clutch stopped working completely.the dealer towed the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the slave cylinder snapped.the current and failure mileages were 400.

Was dropping daughter off at the bus stop when first noticed that shifting into first gear was difficult.then it happened again when i was at a stop light, the car would not shift into 1st or 2nd gear, waited and pumped the clutch and it went in.next day was leaving home and the car would not shift after i stopped at a stop sign, and returned home after the car finally went into gear.mechanic told us that the slave cylinder was leaking profusely.our 2007 jeep compass 4x4 manual transmission only had 38,121 miles.we have been told that by several mechanics that this should not happen to a car this new with so few miles.all of the parts were on back order and our car has been in the shop nine days.jeep has fixed the problem, but has not taken the responsibility to pay for the entire repair.

When i push the belt into the receiver it clicks and holds the tongue of the metal catch but when you tug on it it pulls apart easily. We do not know how long this has been going on. It is the passenger side that we are having this problem with

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. While the vehicle was in reverse, a crunching sound emerged form the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake pads needed to be replaced. While on the lift, the mechanic noticed holes on the frame and severe rust. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.

2007 jeep compass issues with brakes pads, rotor suspension ,tie rods, ball joint, struts, swaybar, swingbar full front suspension and front brakes and rotors. In 1/20/10 i brought me jeep compass in because of noise found out that i need struts front brakes and rotors outer tie rods a wheel alignment it cause me over a thousand dollars now 4 months later i have more issues with the car so i bring it back now they said that i need ball joint swaybar swing bar and bearings and the rear brakes and rotors etc this is going to cost me 1300 now that i think about it i never had a car that had so many problems my car has only 29000 miles its 3 years old why does it need this much work even the mechanic says this car has alot of issues whit the front end and steering and suspension and i owned other cars that are old and have not any issues with the car except the replacing brake pads and oil changes there has to be an issue that i think should be looked at why these parts are failing so soon thank you.

Took car to my mechanic for an oil change. After putting car on the lift he usually does an inspection, brakes, exhaust, tires , steering , etc.when checking for play on the front wheels he notice a very dangerous play on both front wheels, more severe on the right side due to failing ball joints. Car is a 2007 jeep compass with 60,000 miles.

I have a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. Shortly after purchasing it i started to hear a thumping noise in my front end when turning. I also heard a creaking noise whenever going over any bumps or hitting any potholes. The noise was consistent for awhile and then went away. Last year i had a tire blow out while driving. The left front tire blew out and upon looking at the tire- there was very obvious uneven tire wear. I looked at the right tire and it looked exactly like the left tire so we quickly had both front tires replaced with new ones. Five months later my new front tires were bald on the inside. I had to purchase new tires again and we had an alignment check to look into the front end. I was told my left ball joint and right tie rod needed to be replaced. I had the left ball joint done. I was planning to have the tie rod done within a month but i was advised it needed to be done now. After having the ball joint done my steering immediately started to pull to the right violently. I had the tie rod done the next day. This alleviated the pulling on the steering wheel but now i can feel something else. The car is not handling right and it makes me very uneasy to drive it. After doing some research across the web the same problems i am having with my compass are being experienced by many, many, many people who bought these vehicles. I'm seeing that this is only the beginning of what is going to be a long list of repairs on this vehicle's front end. I'm really shocked that this problem has not been recalled. Tie rods and ball joints are very dangerous. They are the components of your steering and when they malfunction someone is going to crash. If everyone who buys the same car has the same problem (and it is dangerous), why is something not being done?

Took 2007 jeep compass in for oil change, mentioned rattling noise in front end.mechanic found that both lower control arms/ball joints need to be replaced.jeep only 3 years old and guess what warranty expired!total repair costs ~ 700 dollars.no recall as of yet, but there should be considering countless other compass owners are experiencing the very same problem.

The vehicle with approx 120000 miles on it in 11/2015 had the passenger side and drivers side ball joints replaced. In 4/2016 the passenger side ball joint failed and pulled out of the steering knuckle as i backed out of my driveway, i had it replaced. Two weeks later the driver side ball joint pulled out as i made a right hand turn into a walmart parking lot. The failure caused my strut to be bent, the inner and outer tie rods to be twisted around the half shaft drive axle, and the drive axle to be pulled out of the transmission. My lower control arm needed to be replaced as well. Luckily most of the damage was covered under my insurance. If it had happened on the highway i'd have needed a casket and an undertaker as well! yesterday i went to get an alignment done - and to check as to what was making a clunking sound under the front end - i was told i need a new passenger side lower control arm, inner and outer tie rod ends and a new lower ball joint... Yet again! the third ball joint in two years!!! this auto i bought used for $8k is turning out to cost me twice that amount in repairs. I have not done a "carfax" on this vehicle to determine how many times the front end suspension items were replaced prior my purchase of this vehicle. However, having owned this car for only a year and a half, it has been in the shop nearly every two months for critical structural, or engine repairs. Why has there not been a safety recall on this vehicle ?!?!this car is a lemon!

"takata recall" every time i have to drive my 2007 jeep compass i am scared for my safety and the safety of my children. I have had the whole control arm and tie rods replaced in my jeep just a few months ago due to very loud squeeking in the rear end of the vehicle, it makes the sound when driving slow or fast, any tiny movement such as getting in and out of the vehicle while not running makes the loudest squeaking sound! its like nails on a chalkboard! i already have to take it back in due to the same sound the fix lasted about 2 weeks! there is something majorly wrong with this make and model!

Vehicle made screeching sound, coming from the driver's side front wheel while travelling at about 30mph. When vehicle was parked, owner noticed left front wheel to be turned out and standing at an angle. After raising the vehicle, owner noticed that a-frame crossbar had rusted through completely, rendering the front control arm bolt hanging away from the frame. Both side's front tie rods and control arms had to be replaced at aproximately 35000 miles and 70000 miles. Both side's link tow and link rear had to be replaced at under 70,000 miles, as all bolts had rusted to the frame. New tires were purchased at approximately 35,000 miles, again at 45,000 miles and at 80,000 miles. Shocks for front were also replaced twice on both sides.updated 06/14/2012

2007 jeep compass tie rod and control arm failure.

2007 jeep compass 4x4 with approx. 41,0000 miles needs tie rods lower ball joint/arm. Ball joints also causes owner to pay out of pocket for alignment and replacement of tires since defective ball joint causes tires to wear unevenly. I just paid $2,000 to have my compass fixed.i check with jeep before it was fixed the 800 number said it was covered under the 5 yr powertrain, i called the garage were my car was they said they did not think so then i called the dealer who said it was not covered. After my car was in pieces my dealer told me i should of brought the car there they may of been able to get some help for me. Nice time to tell me when it was in pieces. I filed a compliant with jeep but since this is a safety hazard i was told the car was not safe to drive.if i hit a pot hole i would of lost control of the car and hurt myself or someone else. What does is take for the nhtsa to make jeep recall the 2007 compass to fix this.this is a major safety issue. Are we going to wait for someone to get killed before something is done to issue a recall. How people have to complain before something is done. .

My jeep just went over 6 years as me as the sole owner. The jeep is not used as any type of off roading.had issue with an oil change that brought car into jeep dealership.a minor cleanup was all that was needed.however, i was advised that this extremely low mileage jeep had tie rod issues that could result very soon in a terrible accident for me. I have hankook tires on the car.i thought the car drove okay.i'm seeing many others with complaints on the tie rods where it's been mentioned that bolts were not fastened tightly causing early failure.again, approximately 23200 miles on a car that is basically driven to the store and church within town with occasional expressway trips out of town.so, i'm scared silly that if i don't get these fixed, i'll kill me, any occupants and anyone else on the road at the time it does fail.i was told that i should not drive car without being fixed.and, chrysler doesn't think there's an issue here? this will cost me north of $1100.00 to fix.

Vehicle creaks loudly, when i pull off from stopped and when reversing and turning.dealer replaced right inner tie rod and told me that i need to replace lower control arms.there seems to be a theme on this page, why has there not been a recall, with such an obvious problem with this year, make and model of this vehicle.i am disabled and depend on a safe vehicle to get me to my doctor appointments and maintain my family.i am on fixed income and did not anticipate that we as consumers would be left holding the bag on an obvious design defect, that needs to be corrected by the manufacturer.

So since i've purchased my vehicle. All i can hear is clunking noises as if there are no shocks or suspension to this 2007 jeep compass 4x4. I bring my vehicle for an oil change and the mechanic tells me that the front and rear sub frames are completed rotted. These sub frames from what i know is very dangerous if not taken care of. It holds your suspension together. Why isn't there a recall on this matter yet? are they waiting for someone to die for them to make this issue a recall?

Had a lot of banging noises over bumps. After an inspection under car, found front & rear sub frames rotted out.also rear wheel bearings bad, broken abs tone rings. Rear suspension links seized to rear sub frame. I also had to replace frontstruts & sway bar bushings. (very poor for a 10 year old car)

2007 jeep compass needed tie rod ends replaced at annual inspection at 49000 miles and ball joints need replaced at 70000 miles!jeep will not cover them and they are the only ones who make the ball joints how convenient.mechanic says they are only lasting an average of40-70k miles and to get rid of the vehicle.tie rod ends have 25000 miles on them and he said will need replaced in about a year again! updated 01/13/11

As i wrote in previous comments, i have spent over $11,000 over this period of time. I have replaced the wheel hubs, tie rod ends, the front suspension and all rods concerning the rear. I had my vehicle in for regular maintenance and the mechanic informed me the front and rear subframe is rotten and have holes in them.he further stated this is not normal for a vehicle of this age and i should report the problem and call chrysler as this can cause serious problems.

2007 jeep compass with 41,000 miles. Took it in for oil change and to investigate clunking noise in the front end. Mechanic discoverd left and right side lower control arms/ball joints badly worn. Cost to repair...$900.

Driving on a highway at 35 mph and braking for a red light the jeep front end collapsed and the vehicle served to the left. Dealer inspection revealed the frontcrossmember broke due to corrosion. The rear crossmember was also corroded. The undercarriage of the vehicle sustained excessive & expensive damaged. Chrysler has no recall on this corrosion problem although it has issued an action under 23-012-14. Customer notification would prevent any possible accidents and undercarriage damage but no such notification is in effect. A service visit on 10/2016 with inspection did not alert the owner or dealer to this dangerous condition of corrosion ofa critical structure of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. The contact was driving approximately 55 mph when the vehicle began to pull to the right and wander out of the lane causing difficulty to steer. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer two times where the front stabilizer sway bar and rack and pinion were replaced. Also, the tie rod was replaced twice. The failure continued to occur. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they informed that the same parts which were previously replaced had failed for the third time. The technician stated that the failures were common issues with the model year vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 31,693.

Front end would shake when coasting at 40 mph.took the car in to the dealers with 44,179 miles and they told me i needed to replace frt lower control arms left outer tie and rt inner tie rod cause they were all worn out.so they replaced them all.all new parts and $1034.00.

I bought my jeep compass less than a year ago with 42,000 miles. Its now about 10 months later and i have 46,000 miles on this jeep (i.e. I don't drive it a ton) i have done zero off roading and i always try to avoid potholes and bad roads. Took it in to investigate some loud noises coming from front... Only to find out that my lower control arms have to be replaced due to bad ball joints, outer tie rods on both sides in the front, and new brakes and front left rotor needed to be replaced. I find these problems to be absurd, considering the amount of miles on this vehicle. All of this costing over $1000 to repair. Jeep needs to stand behind their product and clearly recall these issues. I am not happy after reading all of the similar problems of other jeep compass owners; and it makes me even more upset to learn that most of these problems are re-occurring within 2-3 yrs. This needs to be addressed.. Orjeep will be losing my business in the future... Thanks!

Loss of control where the car jerked as if i had hit a patch of ice (in the spring with 50 weather) anytime i steered to the left. Have had the ball joints/control arms replaced 4 times since.

Last summer, i had to have my front outer tie rod ends replaced at 65,000 miles.at that time i had new brake pads installed. A few months later, i started getting vibration in the steering wheel upon braking and i also was told i had uneven tire wear. I took it to the local chrysler/jeep dealer; they alligned it. They never told me that the steering vibration may be caused by bad ball joints. The steering problem didn't entirely go away after the allignment; it steadily got worse. I finally took it to an indpependent mechanic yesterday and they told me i need new ball joints and control arms in the front. I also need one new rotor and the other rotor turned. (this is after i had new brake pads installed about eight months ago and the rotors were fine at that time). I was quoted $663.56 for this work that included another allignment. I have had to replace 50,000 mile tires once at $600.00 and two more times on the front at about $350.00 each time. The vehicle has about 107,000 miles on it today. My complaints are 1). I drive with a two year old in the car frequently. This is a blatant safety risk that jeep is doing nothing about. There are multiple complaints and this should have been a safety recall. And 2)., the money that i've had to spend on this car-replacing front brake pads, new rotors, ball joints, control arms, tie rod ends and tires is ridiculous. I don't have much faith in the dealership since they didn't idenitify the ball joint problem when they should have. I may never buy another jeep product and i will certainly tell anyone that asks the experience that i have had with this car.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. While driving at various speeds, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that it needed an alignment and the passenger side inner tie rod, front sway bar links, and struts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,774.

Took car to my mechanic for an oil change. My jeep compass 2007 went in to have the two front tires repaired. The repair man found that my lower ball joints and left outer tie rod were "trash".the left side had fallen apart.i called jeep to speak to them in regards to this after checking it out online to find that many jeep compass owners have had the same problem.obviously the equipment they are using or the people who are putting them together are not either faulty or not well done.this is a wide spread problem.jeep did offer to pay for the repair in the "event that it truly was a defect".the problem is my jeep is not a chrysler dealer and where it's at and the condition it is in, it would cost me nearly $500 plus to get to one.with that jeep would not help me.i am stuck paying for the repair of a vehicle that has faulty parts and workmanship.this is not a single event... And i ask that you force jeep chrysler to recall this vehicle for this defect.i will be getting my car repaired right where it's at, but i will be pursuing jeep legally through the attorney generals office, better business bureau ect until this matter is resolved.

2007 jeep compass ball joints on passenger and drivers side both failed at 56,000 miles. Never been off road just normal every day driving. Parts have been replaced, and old parts are available for inspection.

2007 jeep compass steering ball problemcost $1000 very dangerous front lower control arms had to be removed and replaced. Ball joint problems, could have lost control of the car.

This has been a known problem a lot ( when i googled it ). This is 100% going to get someone hurt or multiple hurt !!!the front cross member and front sub frame is totally rusted out to the the point of affecting ( steering and stability ) !!! what are you guys waiting for ????????someone is going to get hurt with this serious safety issue!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2007 jeep compass with 55,000 miles, the lower ball joints and tie rod ends have to be replaced. In my opinion and the repair shops opinion this is extremely premature for replacement ofthese parts. The cost of replacement of these parts are not cheap either. I know i am not the only one with this same problems with this vehicle or the sister vehicle to this, the jeep patriot. I have read numerous other complaints on various websites about this same problem with jeep customers with less miles than mine. What really frustrates me the most is that chrysler will not even acknowledge the problem. And keep charging $800.00 to repair this part that will happen again and again! this is a very dangerous problem. My vehicle was at the point where the ball joints and tie rod ends are about ready to break. Thanks for your time.

Last year, 2010 i had to replace the tie rods in my 2007 jeep compass 4x4.it only had 36,000 miles at the time. Now i'm told the ball joints are bad.i can't drive my care because it throws me all over the road.a very definite safety problem, not to mention the money i'm shelling out for the repairs.

In 2008 we purchased the 2007 jeep compass brand new.at the time it had a little over 100 miles on it.in 2009 it failed inspection due to worn tie-rod ends which were covered under warranty.at that time we had approx 35,000 miles on it.in 2013 at approx 98,000 miles the tie rods are worn again, thus we failed another inspection.since owning the 2007 jeep compass we have gone through 3 sets of tires, needed new ball joints and now front struts also need replacement.not sure if there is a defect in the front of the vehicle which is causing these parts to wear out quicker then normal.when i spoke with the dealership on these last set of tie rods he told me its because of the roads are bad.i don't believe that as i've owned 5 vehicles in my life time and only had to replace the tie rods once.

Front lower control arms and tie rods have gone bad with only 67000 miles and less then 5yrs old.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. While driving at various speeds, the contact heard a clunking noise followed by the sound of metal scraping the road. The vehicle was pulled over and the contact noticed that the rear control arm and cross member failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.

Brought my vehicle in for what i thought was a bad ball joint on the front driver's side. I was told my subframe is completely rusted out in that spot. It's so bad that the mechanic isn't sure he can actually fix it. I found out that this is so common that chrysler extended warranties for everyone, but didn't offer a recall. Not only that, but they only offered this for a set time of 120 months. You would think they would have notified people of this so they could have it repaired. Instead, those of us who happen to have an incident after the time frame are now out of luck and out of a lot of money to (hopefully) repair the problem. Disappointing to say the very least.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. The contact stated that the tire pressure monitoring system alerted him to check the front driver's side tire. The contact placed air in the tire. While driving from the fuel station and making a left turn, the cross member fractured into the tire. The vehicle was unable to be driven. The vehicle was near a repair facility and the mechanic diagnosed that the cross member had extensive rust to the point that it fractured into the frame. The vehicle was then towed to a second facility for diagnostic testing. A dealer was not contacted. The contact was uncertain if the vehicle was included in manufacturer extended warranty campaign number: x69 (front and rear cross member corrosion) and tsb number: 23012-14. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. While driving at an unknown speed, there was an abnormal noise emitting from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that there was a crack in the frame and the frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. While driving approximately 55 mph over a bump in the road, the traction indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear subframe was completely rusted and needed to be replaced. The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. While servicing his wife's vehicle, the contact noticed lots of rust and holes on the subframe. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 75,000.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. The contact stated that the vehicle was corroded to the point that there were holes in the engine cradle and caused the wheel to lean out of the vehicle. The vehicle was unable to be driven. An independent mechanic confirmed that the structure was corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

I have a 2007 jeep compass 4wd. The rear subframe on the driverside is rotten out and making the driver side rear wheel bend. I have a 4 year that goes in my car, and i have looked online. Jeep was made aware of the rust rot, and choose not to do anything

I experienced a tire blowout on i-70 while traveling at 60mph. Fortunately, no cars were around at the time or it could have killed me or caused serious harm to my car or another. I have been struggling with tire issues for some time, but they could not figure out why. I have had a previous blowout as a result of the inside edges of the tires wearing out too quickly. After having my car towed to a tire shop during this incident, they informed me that the rear subframe is rusted through and causing the tires to wear on the inside edges. They stated the frame will need to be repaired or replaced before an alignment can even be made. They recommended i get it repaired as soon as possible since it is unsafe. . they also told me to check with jeep on recalls. I have called jeep three times now. They stated they were aware of an issue and they had extended a warranty on it but i was out of that warranty which expired last year. They originally said that it is possible they would fix it out of warranty, but i would need to get an appointment and follow up with them. I called them back after the local shop refused to help me. They stated that i had to have a diagnostic test done. I told them i was unhappy with this since i didn't feel i should have to pay for this and drive an unsafe car to the dealership which is not close to me. They then informed me that they are actually not going to help me at all because the warranty is expired. This is a huge safety issue and i have found dozens of complaints online. Please tell me why this is not a recall. I could have easily been killed by this issue. I have had near missed from blowouts twice now, which i now know were a result of this. Furthermore, this is a very expensive repair and buyers djoukd be made aware before purchase. This should be a recall with all expenses covered. I am really upset that it is not.

The vehicle failed inspection last week due tox58 front/rear crossmember being completely rusted and in dangerous condition.apparently this was under warranty because this has been a serious issue. I was not aware of the problem nor the warranty and now i'm stuck with a car that is not drivable.

I'm just going to list the problems with dates to make it easier to get a visual of the problem!2009 4x4 indicator light came on - oil leaking out of some 4x4 box/bearings missing went bad 50,000 miles can't remember the exact name of the part, but could call the dealer and find out what it was, 3/7/12 - cv nut lock covers needed replaced - rusted out, left outer tie rod replaced, 3/17/13 - both control arms replaced, 4/3/13 - right tie rod (inner and outer) replaced, 1/17/14, front engine cradle replaced, 3/28/14 - right wheel bearing replaced, both controls arms replaced again, axle replaced, 5/16/14 - notified that right tie rod needed replaced again.this is by far one of the most poorly designed vehicles that i have owned.it currently has 80,000 miles on it and all of the things replaced should not have needed replaced and not have needed to be replaced twice to boot!i would never again purchase or recommend purchase to anyone.parts going bad this quickly is a danger to any other parts that may go unnoticed until it's too late!

Front end would shake when coasting at 40 mph.took the car in to the dealers with 44,179 miles and they told me i needed to replace frt lower control arms left outer tie and rt inner tie rod cause they were all worn out.so they replaced them all.all new parts and $1034.00.

I had my vehicle in for regular maintenance and the mechanic informed me the front and rear subframe is rotten and have holes in them.he further stated this is not normal for a vehicle of this age and i should report the problem and call chrysler as this can cause serious problems.

I heard some noise coming from the front passenger side of my car at low speeds. I took the car to the mechanic who discovered a giant crack in the a-frame, apparently due to corrosion. It looks like the metal just rusted all the way through. This frame holds the suspension together, so the wheel could fall off now that the frame is cracked. This could be extremely dangerous if it happens at high speeds. This is obviously a defective part that should not be failing at 68,000 miles of a well-maintained car. The really bad part is that the part probably isn't covered by warranty. This is a major safety issue and the part should be recalled and repaired by jeep. I should not have to pay for this.

I have had this jeep for little over a year and have had to replace the fuel pump, the drive chain, front control arms and now i am told that the subframe is rusted and apparently cracked as it makes awfully load noises in the back.i have contacted a jeep dealer to ck on the replacement of the subframe. Brought my 2007 jeep compass in to have the alignment checked.i was told by our jeep dealership that both of my ball joints are faulty and the car is extremely dangerous to be driving.i just bought the car 10 months ago from the same jeep dealership.we drive only highway and the car only has 44,000 miles on it.

Had vehicle in shop to do a routine oil change and tire rotation, was told that both lower ball joints were bad and they would not recommend driving vehicle was 40 miles from home with no way to get there had to drive they say it was unusual for both to go at that low mileage but the could not find a recall so i googled the problem there is numerous complaints of this. This is a safety hazard they need to recall before someone is hurt or killed.

Re:front frame crossmember.these parts were inspected as ok in 2014 by dealer per the chrysler warranty extension letter about frame rot. In july 2018 rot and deterioration discovered by owner that would have been there prior to the warranty extension expiration in july 2017.the warranty extension period was too short and chrysler should have had the vehicles re-inspected for deterioration throughout the warranty period.i am wanting a fair resolution to a now dangerous situation with my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4.the contact stated that the vehicle would make exhibit a loud noise while driving various speeds.a local mechanic diagnosed that the ball joints were defective and the vehicle was repaired.the dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 7,000.

Front engine cradle/sub frame broke in half while driving on a city street causing loss of control and damage to additional parts including rack and pinion, control arms, etc. After examination of the engine cradle/sub frame by a mechanic and myself it was discovered that the engine cradle/sub frame had rusted so severely that broke in half under the normal weight and driving stresses of the vehicle. Examination of the rear sub frame shows the same signs of rust which include numerous holes approximately 1/2" +/- in diameter. The uni-body of the vehicle has no surface rust or more severe rust located on any area on the vehicle. The rust is solely isolated on the front engine cradle/sub frame and rear sub frame. This is a very dangerous and premature failure of a vehicle.

How people have to complain before something is done. .

My 2007 jeep compass had been making clunking and squeaking noises when driving over small bumps at low speeds.there was also a loud grinding noise when turning the steering wheel to either side, also happening at low speeds.i took my vehicle to a mechanic who stated i needed to replace both lower control arms and ball joint assemblies and both outer tie rods ends.it was also stated i needed a new right strut.i was advised that my vehicle was not safe to drive and i was made to sign a paper stating they had told me this.at less than 42,000 miles these are parts that should not be malfunctioning and even more importantly not endangering my life.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. While having routine maintenance performed on the vehicle, the contact was informed that the driver side lower control arm, shocks, and struts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 144,276.

While driving the driver side rear wheel suddenly tilted inward so when was rubbing wheel well. Got vehicle home less than 1 mile away and saw cross member rusted completely allowing upper control arm to move.

K frame by driver frontwheel so rusted crack completely in half. Wheel ended up facing 90 degree to left. Wheel and frame almost separated from jeep. Strut only holding it on. Good thing i was only going about 5mph in parking lot.

Suspension subframe extremely worn out at around 100,000miles and needed to be replaced.

My 17 year old son was driving home from school.all of a sudden the front end of his jeep compass pulled left and was very hard to steer and grinding very loud. The front left tire was pointing out and the steering wheel was off center.i took it to the garage and the main cross member rusted through and broke.i contacted jeep and they said that there was an extended 10 year warranty on this parts due to the same issues.however, the 10 year warranty ran out in july 2016.if they know that there are issues and already extended warranty for 10 years; why don't they make it right on all the vehicles.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. The contact stated that while having an oil change performed at the dealer, it was confirmed that both lower control armsneeded to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 35,725 and the current mileage was 155,000.

Started hearing clunking noise underneath the front. Took to mechanic immediately and he said my front crossmember was rusted out. He told me jeep compass had issued a extended warranty on the problem. T.s.b 23-012-14 is the service bulletin number.my mechanic advised me that it was not safe to drive and i was lucky to even get it there. I called my local chrysler dodge jeep dealer to get problem fixed. They told me it was under warranty and i arranged a tow to get it there. However about 10 minutes later the dealer said it would not be covered because it was not purchased in one of the salt belt states but was built in the time frame under warranty. It was bought in v.a. And was not covered, but west virginia is covered and that is only 62 miles or about a 50 minutes. In my opinion any jeep should be covered for the defect if they have the same problem especially if they was built at the same time. When i seen that part i could not believe how far gone it was. Scary really. My family living is just as important as all the other families in the salt belt states.

Today was told my 2007 compass needs ball joint/tie rod/struts this is the third ball joint put on first failure 42,000 miles, second at 63,000 third now.....was told built wrong and spent over 3000.00 repairing. Never again for a jeep and no class action yet????

Took vehicle to be safety inspected, and it failed because the rear subframe or crossmember was rotted out..... This is a problem known to jeep .... But they said this vehicle was not covered by the warranty.

Loss of control where the car jerked as if i had hit a patch of ice (in the spring with 50 weather) anytime i steered to the left. Have had the ball joints/control arms replaced 4 times since.

2007 jeep compass with 41,000 miles. Took it in for oil change and to investigate clunking noise in the front end. Mechanic discoverd left and right side lower control arms/ball joints badly worn. Cost to repair...$900.

2007 jeep compass ball joints on passenger and drivers side both failed at 56,000 miles. Never been off road just normal every day driving. Parts have been replaced, and old parts are available for inspection.

I recently took my vehicle to a local shop because of loud clunking noises. They stated that the rear suspension is totally rotted out and the clunking was basically things shifting around underneath. He told me it was a real safety issue and said it is not safe to be on the road. He also stated the front is rotted as well.

Took car to my mechanic for an oil change. After putting car on the lift he usually does an inspection, brakes, exhaust, tires , steering , etc.when checking for play on the front wheels he notice a very dangerous play on both front wheels, more severe on the right side due to failing ball joints. Car is a 2007 jeep compass with 60,000 miles.

When driving over bumps you can clearly hear the suspension or struts. You can hear them also while just driving down the road. Sometimes itsounds like the bolts are gonna come out. It also have some kind of creaky noise sometimes as well

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken in for routine maintenance when the contact was advised that the front lower ball joints were extremely loose and dislodging from the socket abnormally. The dealer was contacted who informed the contact that there were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. The vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic. The failure mileage was 37,820.

The front sub-frame (drivers side) of my daughters car broke. Thankfully she was just pulling up to a stop light leaving a college campus when it broke and not on the highway or moving fast. The piece just snapped. I see there is an issue with some of the 2007 compass where they extended the warranty but it does not apply to our vin number for some reason. This is a huge safety issue.

Rusted our subframeandspring

Purchased jeep compass new, nov. 2007, it's driven 99% of the time by wife to/from work at hosp. Driven less than 6,000 miles per year. Wife stated hearing a creaking/ squeeking noise from front of car. I took the compass to the dealer to have it checked out, they stated it was the front left lower ball joint. They replaced the left lower control arm/ball joint assembly and a front end alignment. I feel there is a defect with this part failing after only 25,000 miles ( maybe whole front suspension). This vehicle is well taken care of, the jeep dealer does all oil changes, tire rotation, filters on schedule. This jeep is kept in a garage at home 100% of the time and garaged at work except for the last 2 years. Jeep has never been off road. Purchased 4x4 so wife could safely drive to work in snow as she works at a hospital and needs to be there during all types of weather. I know how this jeep is cared for and to have this type of major part failure is unacceptable, with an undue cost of over $ 500.00 not to mention the safety issues involved. Not a happy person with this jeep compass with only 25,777 miles on it.

I had my vehicle in for regular maintenance and the mechanic informed me the front and rear subframe is rotten and have holes in them.he further stated this is not normal for a vehicle of this age and i should report the problem and call chrysler as this can cause serious problems.

I recently had my 2007 jeep compass in to dealer to check out why vehicle was handling improperly . Found out i needed $3000 of front and rear suspension prts including control arms front and back wheel bearings x 4 ,ball jointsthe whole bit in researching this i find i am one of possibly thousands with the same problems on the same year jeep compass. I have been loyal to chrysler even after owning a neon with many problems but this is definately the last chrysler dodge or jeep product iwill ever purchase. This vehicle is simply a lemon and should be recalled.

I went to get a state inspection for my 2007 jeep compass 4x4, it has 48,000 miles on it and i was told that both lower ball joints were worn out, upon futher investigation it was found that there was little or no grease in the ball joints. After searching for replacement ball joints i found my only option at the time was to buy two used control arms from a junk yard, the ball joints on these control arms were also void of grease.. After talking with other owners of jeep compass 4x4 i have found that all 5 of the other owners of these vehicles in this area have also had to replace ball joints, all of them were also under 5,0000 miles. This is unaceptable, ball joints should last a lot longer than this and would if they had adequate grease and grease fitting where grease could be added to the ball joints. Just so we are clear, the boots covering the ball joints where the grease should be were in perfect conditionso this was not a problem with somethings be torn of misused.

2007 jeep compass with 38,200 miles on it.heard clunking noise in front passenger side wheel area.took to dealer and was told tie rods were blown out and vehicle unsafe to drive.so far jeep has not responded to a recall inquiry yet.i only do light driving to work, approx 4 miles a day, never have taken it off roading.$615 repair costs.

I was told yesterday that my 2007 jeep compass front suspension ball joints need to be replaced.i have 49,000 miles on the vehicle.this defect could result in wheel failure.no failure has occurred yet.

2007 jeep compass lower ball joint failure at 53,654 miles. Completely unacceptable. Took my jeep in for routine maintenance and found my drivers lower ball joint very close to separating. Not only that but the vertical lower control arm bushing was separated from the arm !!only reason there was not damage to my vehicle or my life was i had my compass serviced early for the 60k service.

Thumping in front tires took to halls tires and they told me both front lower balljoints were completely worn out. 2007 jeep compass 4x4, $1000.00 to replace with only 48,000 miles on them. Will keep old parts.

I took my car to my mechanic to have the front end checked because of clunking noises on the driver's side. The mechanic found the front left lower ball joint/control arm in need of replacement. I've already replaced both outer tie rod arms (at 75,000 mi). The mechanic told me that both problems are a common occurrence on all jeep models. The repair will cost $509.00 .as this is a major safety issue, i would request that nhtsa please investigate the suspension problems on jeep compasses.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. While driving approximately 40 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle began pulling to the right. The contact slowed down to keep control. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the front lower ball joints were defective. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 53,000.

Front lower control arms and tie rods have gone bad with only 67000 miles and less then 5yrs old.

I have a 2007 jeep compass 4x4.started out with banging noises coming from the front.i have replaced both struts (38000 miles).noise was still there, found out that i needed aright front tie rod and lower control arm (45000 miles) replaced.a few months later i am nowhearing squeaking noises and rattling.just found out that i now have to have the left lower control arm replaced. Like all the other complaints that i have seen, the problems that i am having are the exact same.this is not right!!the car is under 50,000 miles (all highway) and should not be having these kinds of issues.i have never run into this with any other type of vehicle that i have owned.i think this needs to be investigated before something awful happens.my mechanic tells me that he sees alot of this with the compass and patriot models.jeep used cheaper parts to make the vehicle affordable.great, except the consumer will not buy another jeep product after this.i know that i won't.they need to own up to this and help it's customers with the repair issues.there are too many of them and they are all identical.please investigate this issue. Severe safety issues going on here.i don't know how people can do business like this.thank you.

Thanks!

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for a routine maintenance where the contact was informed that the front lower control arm ball joint was defective. The front lower control arm assembly was replaced. The failure mileage was 49,309.

My wife's 2007 jeep compass 4x4 ltd was taken to our local jeep dealership in edgewood, md for a routine oil change. A mechanic on duty notified us that in addition to the oil change, we would need to have the front drivers side ball joint (lower) replaced because it was "loose". The mechanic described the problem as something serious that needed to be taken care of immediately since the wheel could fall off in extreme conditions. Less extreme conditions were described to us as leading to a possible loss of steering control. The mechanic also mentioned to us that this was a common occurrence with the jeep compasses he has worked on. We took immediate action to fix the car to keep it drivable by having the dealership replace the ball joint the following day - safety was our primary concern. We took steps to contact chrysler's corporate headquarters to see if this would be something they would consider replacing since our car was beyond warranty (61,000 miles) - they dismissed our claim and would not reimburse us for the work done or the replacement parts.having done some research, it seems most jeep models from 2007 through 2009 have been experiencing ball joint problems leading to recalls - the compass is not yet on the recall list. A ball joint failing after 2 years of owning the car and all highway miles (no off-roading, no city driving, no bumpy roads, etc.) just seems very absurd to us. This seems to me like it?s more of an issue with defective parts placed in the compass than an issue of wear and tear. The consequences of a failure such as this while my pregnant wife was driving the car could have been disastrous. If the mechanic on duty is seeing this part failure in more than one compass, it could mean a bigger problem exists, presenting a danger to many compass owners. Please look into this!

2007 jeep compass 4x4 with approx. 48,000 miles has undergone it's 4th replacement of the front lower ball joint/arm. The replacement is not under warranty with jeep nor recalled at this time. Every year at time of inspection, the jeep compass fails inspection due to bad lower ball joint. Replacement costs the owner approx. $500 annually. Jeep has not done anything to correct this defect at the time. The defect in the ball joint also causes owner to pay out of pocket for alignment and replacement of tires since defective ball joint causes tires to wear unevenly.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken in for routine maintenance when he was informed that both front lower control arms would need replacing. In addition, the contact stated that the wheels were abnormally slanted inward as a result of the control arm failure. The contact expressed concern of the safety risk involved with the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unknown. The failure and current mileage was 39,422.

2007 jeep compass= went to get oil change and was told lower ball joints were shot and unsafe to drive. How long before you make jeep recall this junk? do people have to die first?

2007 jeep compass with approximately 52,300 miles needed left and right ball joints and right outer tie rod replacedat a cost of $510. Given the fairly low mileage and the fact that this auto is driven only on paved city and highway roads these repairs should not be necessary.others have reported on the web similar repairs with ball joints/tie rods for this jeep model -- jeep should have a recall on this model for this defect.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. The contact stated that the vehicle would exhibit an abnormal clunking noise from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the coupling arms, bushings and bearings had failed.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 35,000.

I was just had my tires replaced at 60,000 miles and was told that both lower ball joints were bad . This is a very low mileage for this to occur..i was quoted over $900 usd to replace both lower control arms (with new ball joints) plus alignment.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. The contact was driving in reverse approximately 5 mph in a residential driveway. The brakes were applied and the vehicle exhibited a loud clunking. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and they detected that the front lower ball joints were defective. The contact scheduled an appointment for the vehicle to be repaired. The failure mileage was 56,702. Updated 7/12/12 updated 07/18/12

Rear trailing arm bushings are worn and need replacing. Vehicle had been at dealers for fluids change and inspection. Then went to replace rear tires which i thought had delaminated but found uneven tire tread wear on the inside. Tire dealer found upper bushings worn beyond tolerances.

The contact owns a 2007 jeep compass 4x4. While accelerating up to 60 mph, there was a rattling noise detected from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the rear control arms needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 187,000.

Today while leaving a drive thru my car stalled and then went back to normal, i pulled into a parking space 20 seconds after leaving the drive thru window and put my foot on the break. About 5 seconds after that my car had just died. I put it in park, and turned it back on and it started up with no issues and i drove home with no issues (about 20 miles from my home). This however is not the first tie but the third time in less then a month of owning it. The first two times happened after i filled my car up completely with fuel. Today my car was between one quarter and half tank. I had no check engine lights on either. The car seems to actually die whenever i am at a complete stop.

Leaks water through dome light while driving. Water pools in the dome light and after heavy rains i find 2 inch puddles of water on my passenger side floor. This is not only a fire hazard as it's coming through an electric port dripping on my radio but also just a hazard when driving and surprised with water pouring out of the light. Has been consistently getting worse for years now, started with the occasional drip.

2007 jeep compass 4x4.

All the windows have problems working, they do not go up or down. Have had them worked on. At this time 2 work sometimes.

Thank you.

The event involved driving at moderate speeds in a small city environment 25-30 mph.i had just turned from a busy street involved with construction to another busy street and needed to accelerate quickly, so i firmly pressed down the gas pedal, but instead of going faster, i heard a loud snap and the main (dark gray plastic!) pedal fell to the floor of the car, leaving me vulnerable to traffic--which politely backed off when i unexpectedly slowed down in front of them.after turning on the emergency flashers i was able to coast to a safe place on the shoulder of the road, and called for assistance.i was able, after some experimentation, to find a one inch stub of accelerator pedal over the potentiometer, which i was able to use to move the vehicle to a repair shop.the pedal, on inspection, has a factory built-in circular and two triangular holes that penetrate the shaft--the break occurred here--and two grooves beside these holes.i had to purchase a replacement accelerator assembly--same flawed design--warranty did not cover this item and it was installed 6/5/09 at a local repair shop.at my request, i obtained the entire damaged part.i have both pieces, and can photograph them if requested, or can mail them to someone for inspection.my issue is that this item's failure could have resulted in a collision if the other drivers hadn't politely slowed to allow my emergency pull-over to take place.it also is a structural weakness that could render the vehicle non-drivable at a moment's notice.the entire pedal broke off completely without any intermediate partial breakage to warn me this was coming.i believe this pedal assembly should be replaced with a redesigned pedal without the structural weakness i described above at the expense of the manufacturer.i hope they use something a bit better than plastic.

K frame by driver frontwheel so rusted crack completely in half. Wheel ended up facing 90 degree to left. Wheel and frame almost separated from jeep. Strut only holding it on. Good thing i was only going about 5mph in parking lot.

Loss of control where the car jerked as if i had hit a patch of ice (in the spring with 50 weather) anytime i steered to the left. Have had the ball joints/control arms replaced 4 times since.

When driving over bumps you can clearly hear the suspension or struts. You can hear them also while just driving down the road. Sometimes itsounds like the bolts are gonna come out. It also have some kind of creaky noise sometimes as well
