Air bag light began coming on and off intermittently, whether driving or stationary, eventually staying on most of the time.periodically while driving it would go off them immediately come on and chime.took to a chrysler dealer and was advised the clock spring in the steering wheel needed to be replaced as it was faulty and would not deploy the air bag if involved in a crash.researched the issue and found several other complaints for this model as well as recalls for 2007 to 2010 jeep wranglers which have the same steering system.clock spring was subsequently replaced by dealer for a significant cost, correcting the problem.

Having an electrical switch issue with my jeep. The key locks in the ignition and the car will not start. Also the airbag sign says something is wrong.
Our 2008 jeep commander was hit from behind while making a right turn. The impact caused the commander to flip landing on the driver side roof and then rolling onto the driver's side where it slid into another vehicle. The impact from hitting the roof and side of the car resulted in the car being totaled by the insurance company of the person at fault. The side air bags did not deploy when the car rolled onto it's side. Per page 52 of the owner's manual "the window bag on the crash side of the vehicle is triggered in moderate to severe side collisions" also page 56 states "the side impact srs side curtain airbags are designed to activate only in certain side or rollover collisions." the entire driver side of the vehicle was crushed in, the driver side mirror was pushed through the window due to the impact. After the vehicle rolled it came to rest on the driver side. How much impact is needed to deploy these airbags?the driver side door alone was bent off of the frame. I can understand the front airbag possibly not being deployed as the vehicle was hit from behind, but i am surprised that the initial impact to the driver side roof corner side not trigger anything nor did the rollover and side impact that occurred.
The vehicle has been showing the airbag light since i purchased it.first they replaced the seat belt tensioner trying to guess problem but it did not fix it but it went away for a while.now they believe they found true problem and it's the clock spring.i believe the item was defective since new purchase and now it completely go bad.i have no airbags and i'm driving around bad because jeep installed a defective clock spring on my 08 jeep. They have a recall on 07 jeeps but my 08 is not part of it.hopefully you can add our 08 jeeps commander to that list.
My daughter was driving down the hwy and a car came out in front of her from the left side and they hit. The other car's air bags all went off. My jeep not one air bag went off after totaling the front end going through a ditch hitting a guard rail etc. Police but on report they went off just took it as they should of because of how bad she was hit. My daughter has back problems the other person cracked hip had to have back surgery. My daughter has to have surgery to but they wouldn't ok it at time so now applying for disability unable to work. We have every recall that you have list on here wrong with our jeep and more. It starts to rev up as if putting gas on while holding brake or while just driving down the street, i was in car waiting for car in front of me to go with foot on brake it jerked so hard i thought i got kit in the back. We have taken it in to have tests run on the jeep and they come back saying nothing wrong with it. So looking to trade in but the police report wrong trying to get that fixed.since accident the air bag light goes on might stay on or go off and on. I feel that there is a problem with the air bags but told they can't check unless take apart etc to look at them. They should have gone off in accident. The tire light is on all the time.so i feel unsafe driving my jeep with two small children in it. We have taken it in for the recalls they say not for our jeep vin # and refuse to fix them have asked other people with same jeep and they all got same problems. We have talked to the jeep people over computer and they say they have no answer for air bag problem at this time. What is that suppose to mean.

A couple nights ago i started my vehicle and the lights were dim at the dashboard. At the same time the headlights would only turn off when the vehicle was turned off, the turn signals quit working, but the hazards work though, the dome lights didn't work unless lens pushed on but not from turn signal lever and the windshield wipers quit working. This all happened at the same time. I thought maybe a cluster relay was bad. The more i look into it, it may be the tipm is faulty. In the past year i have replaced the battery twice, alternater is good and the vehicle stalled at random times.

Drivers steering wheel airbag deployed without reason while driving the vehicle. There was no impact or reason for deployment. Just a simple involuntary deployment of the airbag while turning off a city street into a parking lot. Engine stalls:engine stalls randomly, at a light, around a corner, and even on freeway at 70 mph.engine will not restart after a stall until the key has been removed from the ignition.i have had at least 15-20 stalls since i have owned the vehicle.transmission jerks:this started in the last few months.transmission disengages while driving down the road then suddenly reengages, jerking the car forward.sometimes the car will continue ok, sometimes the engine will die. Electrical issues:not a safety issue but maybe related, i have had numerous problems with my nav system going dark (won't display until engine restarted) - lost settings.rear dvd has totally gone out.dealer says there is a code for "lost communication with radio" due to an open short.last incident:04/11/2012 (51000 miles): on interstate 75 mph - took foot off the accelerator to slow down and felt like the engine had died (lost momentum and was coasting).i applied the gas and the rpm's o the engine increased but the car did not gain speed.felt like transmission had disengaged.the car jerked forward like the transmission reengaged.momentum was returned for about 1 second then disengaged again.the second time, the engine died and i had to coast to the side of the interstate.car restarted and i was able to continue down the road. After driving for another 3 hours, the "service 4wd" message came up on the display.pulled to the side of the road, turned the car off and back on, same message came up.continued driving to my destination - message cleared.after the car sat in the parking lot for several hours, went back out and started it, the message was gone and has not reappeared. Dealer had car 6 days - there are no codes in the system. They can not duplicate issue.vehicle dying on freeway is very dangerous and i have small children, please investigate.
While driving the vehicle ignition switch shuts off without warning. I have taken the vehicle into the chrysler dealer and they have refused to replace the switch even though i am willing to pay all costs. They say this is such a big problem that the switches are being restricted (cannot be replaced unless there is current danger to the owner) by chrysler. This happens all the time as i was driving on the expressway and the car just shut off. This has happened aprox. 30 times in the last 3 months.

My 2008 jeep commander overland edition has shut off multiple times while i am driving down the interstate at 60 + mph. I look all function when this happens; power steering, gas, electrical, etc. I have to make my way to the side of the road, put the car in park and restart it. It always restarts right away. I have taken my car in 4-6 times to allen samuels dodge, jeep in katy tx to try and have the problem diagnosed. Each time they keep my car for multiple days and then tell me they cannot diagnose the problem. I have called chrysler customer service and am getting no help from them either. They keep telling me to take the car in to get it looked at so they can diagnose it. Yet each time i take the car in to get a diagnosis, i am charged for a rental car for a few days, but then told they cannot diagnose the problem and they send me on my way. Within weeks, i have the same problem of the car shutting off while driving down the interstate. I have researched the problem online and have found hundreds of people complaining of the exact same problems in their 2008 jeep commander. I am at a loss as to what to do now. I feel the car is extrememly unsafe, yet chrysler is doing nothing to fix the problem.

Leaking water through side driver handle also carpets soaked when rains. Has been happening through the years. Safety issue now i believe is affecting my electical in door panel. Passenger door window will not work from drivers side.now leaking from light fixture. Will it affect any other electrical in the future? when jeep was new door hinge was replaced rusted out. Need it done again. This is not normal maintenance to replace hinges. The door sounds like its going to crack in half when opening and closing. Wouldnt be suprised if it fell off.its the same side as the leaks. Im putting todays date because its all the time. Also ive read there is a class action suit for the sunroof. But not vehicles before 2009? all recalls and suits match my situations but my vin #doesnt come up?? not right at all. There are so many flaws in this jeep but what im complaining about is serious.

I was notified of the manufacturer recall late 2014, i took it to the local dealership at that time and was advised that they did not have the parts in and that they would be in at some point this year. I asked what the actual risk was they explained the biggest risk was associated with the engine shutting off while driving and was advised to remove my keys off of my key fobs. On april 9, 2015, i parked my car turned the ignition off and then realize that there was a window down. At that point i attempted to restart the car to roll up the window and there was no power. After having the car towed to a local shop and being told they couldn't bring up anything on the computer because the electrical system was shut down, the vehicle was transported to local dealership where they identified that the win module or the wireless ignition node was defective. Now, i have been without a vehicle since that time and they are reporting that the replacement parts will be expected around may 14 of this year however ever since april 16, i have been getting different dates every single time i talk to the dealership. I believe chrysler has exceeded a fair amount of time to replace this since they knew about it in the summer of 2014 andthey have failed to provide a quality replacement part for their product. I have been in contact with both the local dealership and the 1-800 number for chrysler(888) 327-4236and they continue to pass me around and inform me that i'm welcome to rent-a-car and have been offered the dealerships discount. Further, they report that they are not sure when the replacement parts will be available but i will be notified as soon as they are.

When i put my vehicle into park it will not let me turn it all the way off an release my key. It keeps it in the acc position or the battery on position.but the engine does turn off. I then have to wait for a click then i can release my key. Sometimes i have to restart the vehicle and move the shifter around a few times then turn the vehicle back off to get it to click to release my key. The dealer said it's an electronic problem. My starter cylinoid is going out. And i have to have a whole new part and it comes with new keys. It's going to cost $650 to fix it.

I bought my vehicle at a nissan dealership and didn't know that it leaked into the cabin on the driver's side foot well because of the drain tubes for the sunroof. I took it in they said it was fixed but the very next time it rained it was soaked again and by then i found out what is really going on with the vehicle. It's not that i don't want to be a good consumer and not make any waves, but i don't want to keep paying for a leaking vehicle, and don't know what to do. What happens if i go to step out of the vehicle and slip and fall, i have feet ankle problems as it is and it's detrimental to my health should that happen.

My jeep commander has had 3 different mechanical diagnostics to diagnose why the vehicle shuts off continually while in motion or stopped. The ignition switch was recently replaced as a part of a recall and this has not solved the issue either. The jeep will randomly shut off, and all power steering is loss, causing a very unsafe condition until it can be put into park or neutral and turn back on. My last diagnostic showed the auto repair shopped a computer read of 'running' while the truck had turned off several times right in front of them. I have spent a large amount of money on diagnostics and no mechanic has been able to find an answer even after the ignition switch was replaced as part of an original recall. I was told by all three auto repair shops that they know there is a stalling/shut off issue but they are unable to fix it because there is no indicator of why through thorough diagnostics. They also noted that when the jeep shuts off the dash lights do not turn on as it would normally when a vehicle shuts off. When the jeep has shut off on me driving down a major road at 40 miles per hour my only indicator that my vehicle has shut off is that my steering wheel locks up as the jeep begins to slow down. The new ignition switch has not remedied the shut off issue and no mechanical shop has been able to diagnose and other reason why. Essentially my jeep commander is very unsafe with no solution able to found. I researched further and found that there was a front control module recall on some 2008 jeep commanders issued. I believe my jeep commander's vin may need to be added to this recall for this make and model because the ignition switch recall has not fixed the issue and no mechanical diagnostic has been able to answer why. Everything else is completely sound with the jeep commander except this issue of shutting off while on, in motion or parked.

The recall (n23nhtsa 13v 225) per shanepua, of chrysler, that is nowcausing major problems on my vehicle was not tasked to my specific vehicle and they won't honor the recall.the other 2 recalls were poorly done in feb 2020 and is now again causing problems.
2008 jeep commander, engine would repeatedly shut down while driving. It would happened at all speeds, from pulling out to driving on the highway.i received the safety recall p57/nhtsa 14v-567 over six months ago which stated "chrysler is making every effort to provide the part as quickly as possible". This is an extremely dangerous problem that could end up killing somebody if it hasn't already. It is unacceptable that chrysler can operate in this manner and take this long to fix the problem.it appears they could care less about the customers safety and that they are not taking the recall seriously.

My car started twice and then cut off. After the 3rd time it did nothing. No dash light radio or anything will work. The headlights and interior lights work so battery is fine. The key will not lock or unlock the doors.
While driving on the highway, the entire dashboard went black and the car went completely dead. This has happened 3 times since the first incident.no lights, power steering or brakes, no power windows to put my hand out to wave cars around me.car also stalls immediately upon starting up.also another recurring issue is the entire dashboard lighting up and flashing, total power loss--no power in gas pedal, car stops, and then suddenly kicks back in.i called the dealership and they said i must pay $99.50 for a diagnostic test.
Ignition was very loose and would even start with just touching the key without turning it.would also turn off with just a touch of the key.it soon got to the point where it was not making connection and would not start from time to time.which stranded me and my family several times far from home. After changing many things on the jeep i decided to take it on a family vacation where it would not start and we had to have it towed back home took it to the dealership and they said it was the ignition module which they replaced for $600. The jeep is running great now. And i am not afraid to drive it anymore. It sat in the garage here at home for months and i thought about trading it in but i did not want someone else to get stuck or hurt from it.

I have a 2008 commander that is part of the p57 recall for the ignition switch (9/2014). The switch has totally failed (2/2015). Called all the dealers in my area and nobody has received the parts yet. Called jeep they have no update on when parts are going to be available. They said the best they can do is to put me ona priority list. I asked about trying to get a loaner car (at no cost to me) to use while my jeep is down they said that they couldn't help me out. Looking for suggestions. Down a car now and have no idea when it will be repaired.

More than once our jeep commander, while driving on the street or at highway speeds, has turned off on its own.when the car turns off you lose nearly all braking and steering power.luckily no one has been hurt, yet.this seems to be related to the recent jeep ignition recall, yet no part is available to actually fix this problem.because this problem is potentially life threatening, we have no choice but to discontinue use of the car which means we were forced to buy another car until our jeep can be fixed.

Received a safety recall in the fall of 2014. The dealer did not have the part to repair. After several months and a few more calls still no parts. I then received an additional safety recall on the same defect and called the dealer again and was told they still did not have the parts to make the repair. It has been a year now since the first notice and my question is this. Is it a safety recall or not?

On 1 may 2015 i drove my 2008 jeep commander on errands, making several stops.returning to the vehicle after my last errand, it refused to start when the ignition key was properly inserted and turned. After several attempts and noticing that the dashboard indicator lights, interior lights, headlights and electric windows all functioned properly, i concluded there was a starter or alternator problem. I had the tow truck operator attempt to jump the vehicle just in case it was the battery, which it was not, and was subsequently towed 30 miles home at the cost of $175.the next morning, i wondered if something could be amiss with the electronic key fob. I tried the spare key and the car started immediately. I then tried my original key again and the car also started.we did receive a ignition switch recall notice from chrysler in the fall of 2014 that indicated we would be notified when parts became available, so i called their 1-800 number for an update. Chrysler cannot provide any specific time frame for when the replacement parts will be available. The only thing they will do is add your email to the "special notification list" so that you will receive an email when the parts are available rather than waiting for a physical letter to arrive via usps.i now have to drive this vehicle knowing that it could shut down while i am driving and cause an accident- presumably with disabled air bags due to the ignition being "off" - or strand me by not starting. As a biologist, i do research in some pretty inaccessible places, so this is a huge safety issue for me. Chrysler should be compelled to engineer a fix and make it available now!

Jeep will not start. It displays transmission over temp for a split second as you turn on the key. The jeep sat overnight in the driveway before trying to start it the next morning, and it did not start.
I was making a left turn on a local road, i was starting to accelerate when the car shut off without warning.i glided safely to the side of the road.lost power steering, power brakes.the radio and headlights were still on.i was able to turn the key to the off position and restart the engine.didn't see any warning lights. I was only going at less than 10 mph and i was pulling from a full-stop.the same thing happened 3 days later.
The first incident occurred on 27 nov, as we were driving down a 2-lane highway.we were traveling approx. 60 mph when the jeep made a ?clunk? sound, suddenly the engine lost power and became difficult to steer.i was able to get the vehicle over to the side of the road, got out and did a quick external check to try and see what was wrong.nothing appeared to be wrong.i got back in and tried to start the jeep again, and it did start up.we cautiously proceeded back to our hotel and i immediately looked up the nearest jeep dealer to have the vehicle checked for any mechanical problems.the jeep dealer told me that there were no mechanical problems with the jeep, but that there was an open recall for problems with the ignition switch.the tech told me that the ignition switch on our jeep was loose, which could allow it to slip from the on position to the acc position which would cause the engine to stop while driving.they said there were no parts available yet to fix the problem.they advised that we remove all key chains from the key, but there was nothing else they could do.just two days later, on 29 nov, we had another dangerous incident.this time, we were on the middle lane of a 3-lane interstate.we were traveling at approx. 70 mph when i again heard the loud ?clunk?, the vehicle suddenly lost engine power and became difficult to steer.i immediately put the hazard lights on and tried to get off the highway.we were extremely lucky that there was no vehicle in the lane to the right of us, as i could barely get the jeep off the highway onto the shoulder.if another vehicle would have been close behind us or coming up on the right of us, we would surely have been rear ended.i have contacted both my local jeep dealership and the chrysler corporation regarding a solution to this problem with no assistance from either.

After receiving n23 recall and other software updates (p73) the 4 wheel drives system disables at random.this has to be repaired at dealer.error code points to shift actuator, but in reality it is software.if errors are cleared parts function fine.loss of 4 wheel drive can be a life threatening.since most of the time 4 wheel drive is needed is when not near help.my vehicle has been having this issue ongoing since 2013. Chrysler has been contacted since 2014 with starcases.issue has yet to be resolved.latest break down left me stranded while on vacation and having to pay for repairs.the 4 wheel drive shifting fails randomly, it can be while driving or stationary.it can happen when trying to engage 4 wheel drive or just driving down street and service 4wd system warning comes on.error can be corrected sometimes by pulling fuse for final drive control module other times requires dealer to reapply software flash.some dealers refuse to try this and just proceed to charge to replace shift actuator motor. Potentially, while the vehicle is being driven, the ignition may inadvertently move through the "run" position to the "accessory" or "off" ignition position, turning off the engine. This has been happening off andon for more then 3 months now.consequence summary:the ignition stays between "start" and "on" positions causes loss of certain electrical functions.enginesstops, stater continues running, all the dash lights go on and etc. Talking with chrysler today have yet to addjeep2008 limitedliberty to their recall list.i'm would like to havemy car added tolist if the government needs to this serious problems.the discussing part it is my fault if any serious accidents happens and i did not havechrysler do required repairs with charging me for it.my problem with this any repair record of could be lost.( this seems to be the trend with serious problems )
The car starts on it's own without a key!! it does not have remote start, but i will be walking away from my parked shut off car or up in my kitchen and hear my car sounding like the pedal is down to the medal. It's not just running, it sounds like it is going to blow-up! it's happened 5 times, most recently 2 days ago. It sounds like somebody is racing the engine but it's in park and the car was off. Sometimes it's hours later, other times within 20 min of shut off. It scares me that it will start driving or catch fire in my garage!! the car literally turns itself on!! and it's not just electrical because the engine is running!!i has 65000 miles and started acting weird around 20000 when the electrical system would shut off while i was driving. Car would just shift down mid-drive. It was scaring me that my car's engine would shift itself down d/to the electrical systems. Now it's on and off on it's own!!please help!!

Last summer several months after purchasing the nicely maintained vehicle from a reputable dealership i was driving along subdivision street and that vehicle turned off.i put it in neutral and i was able to start it and get gas i thought it was odd.-----maybe i did something. The second time my son was driving on a five lane busy commercialstreet and it turned off. Again.i was able to easily coach him through it and it started up.this time we told my husband who works in automotive engineering.he talked to some people and came up with the idea that it was the extra keys that were on the ignition key ring.seemed logical sometimes i do have a bunch of extra keys on my ring ----but i remember thinking that i didn't have the extra keys on that occasion. It didn't happen again------until yesterday.daughter driving----in a parking lot----thought she ran out of gas.no extra keys----no warning lights-----nothing ------just stops running.husband last to drive car the day before----no warning lights, no indication of any problem. Daughter gets in car checks dashboard indicators for gas ---determines she has enough to get her to work and drives in a remote parking space.while leaving the long lot her car dies at the exit of the county water park.the park is closed everyone leaves and she is there alone thinking she is out of gas.husbandcomes puts five gallons in starts up with no problem--drives to gas station and the car will only take $10.it was not out of gas-------the engine stopped-------for no reason while driving for at least the third time. I am saying for at least the third time because it may have happened more than once to me-----i absolutely remember the first time, and then with my son, but it could have once or twice again in 2013.

My commander will simply shut off while at speeds and or idling...very scary vary dangerous. Sometimes it will start right back up, but most wont start at all. I have had to tow it away. Luckily i have been able to manage shut offs ...but i have no confidence in this vehicle anymore. Don't want to put kids in with me or tow anything or even just drive it. There are no codes, or explanation to it from my mechanic...mystery. It's currently not starting now and kind of done with this issue. Chrysler...this needsa fix badly!

My adult children's2008 jeep commander engine has quit running, while they are driving, eight times in the past 4 months. (7/26/2010 thru 11/26/2010).the last time the engine quit running my son was driving the car, he was able to restart the engine with the car in drive (turning the key multiple times). They have had many issues with warning lights flickering and/or staying on.they have taken the jeep to waldorf chrysler jeep dealer 8 times due to engine failure. They have repaired module wiring, replaced the starter and turned the core, performed routine check up and maintenance, run/start circuit repaired, throttle and gasket repaired/replaced twice, currently in the repair shop. Dealer would only provide rental car if the kidspaid for it. Also took the jeep to dodge dealership in waldorf 8/2010, they could not find a problem.

This vehicle has an intermittent electrical issue, periodically all of the dashboard warning lights will flash on and then all of the electrical systems will fail -including the speedometer and other instrument gauges, the turn signals and the other lights, the windshield wipers, the radio, and everything else.usually everything will reset after the vehicle has been parked, shut down, allowed to "rest" for several hours, and restarted.this event has occurred 8 or 9 times since the original incident.after the most recent incident the radio speakers went down one by one and you can no longer use the radio, however you do sometimes get a loud static sound over the speakers - even though the radio is turned off.i contacted the dealership after the original incident and was told that when this failure event occurs the system would "reset itself" without intervention, and that i would have to pay a diagnostic fee if i brought the vehicle in for testing, so i have been putting up with this ever since.however, now that other related systems are failing permanently i am not willing to put up with it any longer, i am concerned that eventually everything else will fail permanently including the instruments, turn signals, windshield wipers, etc.the consumer sent an e-mail requesting to add additional info. Yesterday, 07/21/2011, this vehicle stalled out twice while in operation while my wife was running errands in normal city traffic.in both cases she was able to steer the vehicle to the side of the road using the vehicle's momentum and was she was able to restart the vehicle a short while later.this is the first time that the complaint issue has actually resulted in the vehicle stalling out while in traffic.it is also the first time that the complaint issue has occurred in such rapid succession - for the last couple of years the frequency has been once every 3 or 4 months, now it is becoming once or twice a week (or in this case, in a day).unable to add the last few lines of consumers sentence as the
The ignition switch started to make a clicking noise while driving. When i turn the ignition off it will not turn all the way off and the key or fobik gets stuck and will not come out. The power stays on. Perhaps 1 hour later or longer i can go out and it will turn off and allow the key to be removed. If i forget to go back out to retrieve the key the battery runs low and the car will not stop. I'm stranded. When i park and go anywhere the care is not secure with the key in the igntion, anyone can open the door and steal the car.this ignition was recalled in novemebr of 2014 and to date there has not been a fix. This needs to be fixed asap! how can i be expected to accept this situation?

The dealer was unable to determine the problem and suggested a tune-up and throttle body fuel system service. Purchased3/11.6/11 myself/3 others were locked in the vehicle. Doors wouldn't unlock/open, windows didn't work, wouldn't start. We were held hostage for 5 min when it start up and everything worked. 6/11 exited-left the keys on seat 30 sec later lights inside flickered, doors locked, horn honked. 7/2011 driving down the highway at 70 mph it momentarily shut off for about 3 sec and turned its self-back on.this caused a drastic drop in speed before it restarted. 7/11 drivers side floor mat was very wet from rain entering the truck. 7/11 driving in a rain storm witnessed water coming down the driver's side pillar next to the windshield. 4/12 attempted to start it. Everything worked but wouldn't start 20 min later started right up. This happened 7 times since. 3/14 parked for 2 min wouldn't restart.had it towed to a shop where they started it right up.they couldn't find anything wrong . Went to pick it up and it wouldn't start.so they started replacing things hoping they could find a problem. New battery-old battery was good, fuses, starter, relays and out of the blue two days later it started up even after attempts after the fixes 5/13 all lights went out, wipers, wiper sprayer, horn, blinkers, dash lights, rear park assist all stopped working. I was forced to drive home in the rain at night with none of these. 4/14 this happened again for about 24 hours. 5/14 this happened again for 5 days. I have called dealerships about recalls andalways told no and to bring it in at $100/hour to find the issues. It has been hooked up to code readers 10+ time with no codes. Licensed mechanics who can tell me only what they think it could be, educated guesses. The vehicle shuts off while driving. Car just shuts off all power and the engine. It restarts after a few minutes. I have taken it to the dealer, but they have never been able to replicate it. It has happened over 30 times in the last few years. I purchased the vehicle as our family vehicle. However, in the past couple years my wife and i mostly juggle our other vehicle, especially with our small children. This last time it occurred was 9/09/2013 while on the freeway at a speed of 60mph. I narrowly escaped a potentially horrific accident with a couple eighteen wheelers. I pushed it off to the side of the road by myself. Eventually it started long enough to get to an offramp where it stopped again. It was towed and is now at the dealership. However, now i see by looking online that it is a common problem. I am astonished that chrysler would allow this to be happening and knowingly put us all in danger.

On saturday oct. 25 at 10am we were driving the commander and all of the warning lights came on and stayed on.the radio and accessories cut off as well. The commander was serviced again on oct. 27 for this issue and they replaced the wireless ignition again.november 4, 2008 the commander stalled at 10:30am while it was stationery and then again at 11:05am while at a stop light.november 4, 2008-november 6, 2008 the commander stayed with the dealership over the course of two days to see if they could duplicate the problem. November 14, 2008 my wife was driving the commander at 12:30pm and was stopped at an intersection.she began to slowly lift her foot off the brake pedal and the engine revved up and the commander went flying into the intersection.december 8, 2008 the vehicle sat idle in park for less than two minutes before the engine stalled out. All accessories remained on and the ignition switch remained in the 'on' position, but the engine was stalled.december 15, 2008 while sitting at a stop light, the commander began to shake and the rpm gauge slipped below a reading of 0.5. This is a problem that has been ongoing with the commander. December 20, 2008 at approximately 10 am and was stopped at a stop light. The engine of the commander revved up while she had her foot on the brake pedal. The engine rev lasted approximately two to three seconds in length going up to 2.5 rpm. December 29, 2008 brown and wood serviced the jeep again and installed a purge valve/solenoid.it was serviced from 8:30am-9:30am. December 30, 2008 my wife got into the commander at approximately 5 pm this evening. She started the commander and left the vehicle in park while completing a telephone call. Within three minutes of starting the vehicle the engine stalled. January 5, 2009 my wife was driving the vehicle at 12:10 pm. She was stopped at a red light and was preparing to resume driving as the light turned green when the commander's engine stalled.
My 2008 jeep commander will not start. I still have power to my radio, power locks and seats, lights work. The battery and alternator have both been checked and are running fine. The truck will start if it is jumped. I have been doing some research and i have found many people with the same issues. Turns out it is the solenoid wire which apparently has poor weather proofing and corrodes after some time. Now i need to bring it in and pay for this fix out of pocket so that i have a source of transportation for my family. There really needs to be a recall on this issue, seeing as how there are so many people having the same problem. Please refer to this site, where i found all this information. Thank youhttp://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f67/help-2008-commander-wont-start-chronic-issue-1107823/.

In jan 2015 our key fob got stuck in the ignition of our 2008 jeep commander. A day later,we were able to free it.on 2/19/15 it would not start and we had to have it jump started twice.once started it drove without issues for 3 days.then on 2/23/15, the jeep would not start and the key fob got stuck in the ignition. The jeep could not move and could not be taken out of park. The only thing that worked were the lights.we tried to jump start the vehicle and tried everything we could think of to release the key from the ignition.the fob would not release so we had to have the jeep towed to the dealership where we purchased it.the mechanic tested the jeep (battery tested fine).they called chrysler to see if they had any parts to fix the issue and discovered that the issue with our jeep was a faulty ignition. The mechanic got the fob released from the ignition by unplugging the battery.he could not guarantee how long this would work.we called the recall hotline and confirmed our jeep commander was listed on recall p57.however, chrysler has no fix at this time.the hotline advised us to get a hold of a chrysler dealership and get a rental car free of charge through them until the jeep could be fixed (at an unknown future date).the local chrysler dealership refused to give us a rental and said they could not look at the jeep for a few weeks.on 2/28 the jeep would not start again so we had to purchase a new battery (at our expense).because of the p57 ignition recall we are worried that we have an unreliable vehicle and that it could also stall while driving and cause an accident with injury or death. We feel unsafe in the jeep!we want chrysler to fix these unsafe ignitions immediately and in the meantime provide us free alternative transportation and reimbursement for our expenses.

Tamara recall the jeep will cut off randomly while driving down the road. It will also make attempts to cut off while driving at 60 mph and below. The esp light and traction control light will come on. Once able to get the jeep stopped with out getting in an accident it will restart and all lights will go off. This has happened now 3 times with in 4 days with it cutting completely off and 5 times trying to while driving. The 1st time it was on a highway going about 50 miles and hour. The 2nd time i was getting off the interstate while going around a curve going about 30 miles an hr. The 3rd time i was doing 35 miles an hr on a busy street. The times that it has attempted to shut off but didn't i was going between 45 and 60 miles an hr. This is unsafe for anyone to be driving and have happen. It can cause me to have accident and or to cause a accident. This can cause serious harm and loss of life. I am not sure if it is the ignition switch or an issue with the motor or wiring. Something is wrong. I see on other forums that i am not the only one having this issue. I have contacted the dealership that i have recently purchased this jeep from i am scared to drive it. I am in fear for myself and kids and others.

Recall notices p57 & k06 , the vehicle refuses to start and throws an error message stating that the keys are not programmed or inserted wrong. I know the p57 involves the ignition but does not cover the symptoms that i am experiencing. But , why should i take the vehicle in to repair one problem until the parts for the other problem are available. I have been checking every month since the recall was issued in august 2014 and they are still unavailable.this situation has left me with a borrowed vehicle and disgusted. Just how long does and will it take for the recall parts to become available ? also there is a recall on the side airbags from 2010 !! that still states parts unavailable !!really !?!?!5 years and no parts ???
Chrysler has a recall on electrical systems on the 2008 jeep commander.the recall details loss of headlights, wipers, blinkers, and for the engine to stall.but they are only covering it on certain vins.our 2008 jeep commander has suddenly experienced all these problems.my husbands head lights went out in the middle of driving in the dark.the wipers quit working, we have no blinkers, and the engine keeps stalling.we called the chrysler corporation and they refuse to take our jeep in on the recall, yet acknowledged it had all the signs of the recall, they said it had too many miles.we have three small children and the recall states that it is a serious problem and could cause a crash.so what are we too do know?

2008 jeep commander safety issue where it completely looses all electrical and motor systems while driving or idling. It stalls out only at low rpm or when shifting from first to second gear. I lost all systems including steering, brakes, and hazard lights. This happened to me several times in the past week nearly causing an accident. Dealership and private auto mechanic could not diagnose and it leaves no system events. I contacted chrysler to see if this was related to an earlier model commander recall with the exact same problem and they grew angry with me and hung up.

Do i get this reimbursed since i am now having the same issue? this is my only vehicle-what do i do when the jeep just stops working?you really need to get on this problem, i have had the key stuck in the ignition, switch to the off position (which shuts everything down) going down the road and from time to time-car will not recognize the fobik and will not start. Thanks for your time.

I've been having issues with my '08 commander for several months now. The sunroof leaked and water got into the dashboard, shorting the radio out. Dealer fixed sunroof seal and radio. On the drive home from the dealer, dashboard lights started flashing. Returned to dealer the next day, but they could not locate a problem. Three days later, car would shut off while driving and all dashboard lights would flash. Returned to dealer, they were unable to "duplicate" issue. Tech from dealer drove car for 1 day and he could not find an issue. One week later, car smelled horrible of fuel and car would shut off while driving. Returned to dealer and dealer replaced o2 sensor. Picked up car and on my way home, lights flashed, car stalled and smelled worse of fuel. Immediately returned to dealer, dealer replaced a second o2 sensor. Picked up car, 5 miles from dealer, check engine light came on. Called dealer and he said to drive car until the engine "reset"(about 10 miles) oruntil light began flashing, then bring it in since they can not find a real problem. Issue seemed to resolve for a couple weeks of not driving car much, but then the dashboard lights began flashing again, car smelled of fuel and car seemed bogged down. Today, car barely started and was very bogged down. Attempted to drive, but check engine light came on and flashed repeatedly. Car would not go over 40mph, shook horribly and finally shut off. I am afraid to drive this car with my child inside. I am a disabled single mother and i need a dependable car and definitely not one thats going to keep costing me money. I have a warranty that i purchased with the car, but it seems to still cost an arm and a leg to get this car running for a few days before it chokes up again. This car has sucked up all my savings and still no resolution to the problem.
For some reason off and on since we have owned the jeep bought it new we have had occurrences when the vehicle wouldn't start. Just in 2016 we had to replace the solenoid and the starter. Now in 2017 having to do it again. The problem is when the solenoid gets to hot the truck doesn't want to start after running for a while. And also having issues with the esp bas lights coming on which has to be electrical. I was told to contact you since many other chrysler owners and jeep owners have had the same issues. Thank you
My car- i was ablestart it twice after a few simple test.- i made sure the battery cable/terminals were tight, i turned everything off, and i then cut it off. On the 3rd time it did nothing. No dash light radio, no a/c, windows not working. The headlights and interior lights work so battery is fine. The key will lock or unlock the doors.the starter works.

Purchased a 2008 jeep commander in feb 2009. It has been shutting off and stalling while driving during the past 6 months. In november 2013 (on thanksgiving morning) drove it to the store and when i came back it didn't start. Has to call a tow truck, over the hour while i waited for the tow truck it didn't start and i tried numerous times. Truck was towed to the mechanic cause the chrysler service station was closed on thanksgiving through dec 2nd. The mechanic tried to start the truck on 11/28 friday and it started. He has had the truck since 11/28 and every time he goes to start it, it starts which doesn't help me cause he can't pin point the problem. I called chrysler service station and they can't take me until 12/11. Bigger question is why isn't my truck included in the chrysler # h03 recall? it is experiencing the same problem as explained in the recall, yet when i call chrysler they tell me my 2008 jeep isn't part of the recall and the 2008 recall includes the jeep. It's an ambiguous decision and leaves people in danger while driving on the highways. My truck has a problem and it can't be fixed unless it happens again while in a service station so it can be documented by a computer. This is a nightmare and something should be done by dodge / chrysler to fix it without endangering the lives of many people.

My 2008 jeep commander sport 4x4 has been running fine. I parked the jeep, but it in park and turned it off. When i come back 3 hours later my car does not start. I was able to unlock my car by using the remote, and the lights turned on when i opened the door. I put the key in turned it and the car would not make a single noise, and "damaged key" prompts on the dash and quickly disappears. I needed to move my car so i was able to get a jump bc of the position the car was in. I put my foot on the break and tried to put it in neutral and it would not let me. My friend was able to position his truck to jump start mine. Again, nothing worked.
My jeep seems to match up to a very common problem related to a total intergrated power module. The problem is so intermittent that basically everything mechanical and electrical has been replaced. The tipm is my next replacement. I have freaky issues with my very clean jeep commander 2008 limited 5.7l hemi. Its absolutely crazy what has been replaced. I would never recommend a jeep product as this issue seems to be known but due to cost jeep basically denies the issue. My vehicle would be the poster vehicle for a class action lawsuit and jeep needs to fix this as this is not right. Way too much money is being paid out for repairs that do not work.

On september 17th, 2013 at 10:00am, i went to start my 2008 jeep commander and it would not turn over.i was getting a "damaged key" or "wrong key" error message.my husband came from his job to also start it.he was able to get the car to start very intermittently.we decided that i would leave work to take the car home to try the spare key.it also did not work.at 1:00pm on september 17th, we were able to get the car to the jeep dealership.the dealership diagnosed the car as needing a new key fob.i let them know that i firmly believed they were incorrect and that it was the wireless ignition module.they proceeded with the key fob.on september 18th, i called the dealership to follow up on the status of my car.they noted that it was not the key fob, but the wireless ignition module like i said the day prior.the dealership let me know the part was on back order and i was number 103 on the waitlist.after a lot of research on the internet, it appears the issue with the wireless ignition module is very common with jeeps.i have now called jeep four times (september 18th - twice; september 19th - twice) and have not received a single return call to bring resolution to this issue.i now have a car that does not run and no answers on when to expect a part....a part that has had a lot of issues for jeep owners. Where is jeep's responsibility to their customers?the lack of customer service and answers is very disheartening.

I was driving to pick up my kids from school around 2:30 that afternoon. When coming up to a green light i was making a right turn and everything locked up in mid turn. Good thhing no one was in front of me or i would have hit them. There was a gas station on the right & because i was going 10 miles an hour before it locked up i was able to coast into the gas station. It scared me so much bacause i had no control. I had a half a tank left so i know it wasnt because of gas. I have had other issue too like all of the warning lights coming on at once. Troubles after i start it the car will drop down to 1st gear. When its set on auto. Know one at dealership can find anything wrong with it. Im so scare its going to lock up again on me and cause a wreck & i have 3 kids so im scare they will be in car when it happens again.
On december 23rd 2014, i was on the highway with my family. As we pulled into a rest area, the jeep ignition cut off. We were able to coast into a parking spot and when we tried to restart the jeep, we kept getting a key bad error. My wife had her key with her, so we tried hers as well and got the same result. We ended up getting towed to the jeep dealer and ended up having to have the ignition module replaced.
This is a repeat problemproblem still not solved i keep bringing into the dealership. It has been towed, driven, etc. Data recorder. New ignition installed, new wires installed, relay switch installed now they want to try to replace the fuel pump. They are just guessing they have no solution to this problem.time to go drive my death trap....doesn't start sometimes, and they can't figure that out...today, while i was sitting in traffic on 95 my jeep just accelerated out of no where; and i had to slam on the brake and skid off the highway to avoid hitting another vehicle. Now i have no headlights, and no turn signals. No digital speedometer, thankfully, cars still have the traditional speedometer. Lets see what happens this time around. Your right route 1 jeep there is nothing wrong with my vehicle and its safe to drive...maybe chrysler will get there act together and learn from gm! reading me instructions on how to pull my car off the road in case of engine shut down is unacceptable! how do i handle the sudden acceleration and lack of blinkers and lights? i have had ignition/starting issues for years now; i have them dealt with at the dealership on multiple occasions and have also spent money at a private garage to fix the "problems"
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power and all of the lights on the instrumental illuminated. I have been the owner of 2008 jeep commander limited edition for almost 5 years. When i first purchased this vehicle it was my dream truck.. However it has now become my bomb waiting to go off killing me and my children. This truck randomly shuts off during high speeds, doesnt allow me break sometimes for read lights and put my life at risk daily when i drive. I have continually contact the dealership and headquarter about how dangerous my truck has become. I have missed countless days of work and be left stranded when the engine wont turn over. I have begged for help and nobody seems to care. Will it take a me being killed or hurting another for some to finally help. They continue to tell me the recall ignition piece isnt in and that they cant help me. I'm at risk of losing my job because the truck i pay for monthly isnt safe to drive. Please can someone please help me.
While traveling northbound on the new jersey turnpike on june 17, 2012, at approximately 4:00 pm the vehicles engine just stalled, rate of speed at the time was approximately 55 mph.my wife was able to guide the vehicle to the side of the road.got out check the engine compartment, could not identify any issues. Wife restarted the vehicle.this has occurred at least six times over the past six months, seems to be occurring more frequently lately.most of the stalls seem to be at speeds above 45 mph, but she has mentioned that it recently stalled at an intersection.

Traveling approximately 65 mph on i-85 when the jeep commander made a clunk sound and the vehicle stopped. There was no power and it was unable to start. This occurred around 10pm when i was heading home after work. It was a scary experience since it was dark. I was extremely thankful for law enforcement presenting and stayed with me until the tow truck arrived. I took it to a first mechanic who stated the engine was totaled. I went for a second opinion to another mechanic since the car was made in 2008 and has about 112,000 miles but was also informed the engine was totaled. This was a shock and disappointing since i do not have the funds to purchase another vehicle.
On june 6, 2012 at approximately 12 noon while drivingmy 2008 jeep commander at 15 mph it stopped and would not start again.there were no warning lights, it did not overheat, and all of the electrical components such as the radio, windows, lights, etc continued to work, only a clicking sound and it would not start.i had it towed to jeep. Because they have maintained my vehicle since i purchased it from carmax 16 months prior.dealer, stated i might need a starter recommending i authorize to put one on costing me $400.later that afternoon i was told the engine was locked up and since i was out of warranty, chrysler would possibly assist me. I contacted chrysler and was assigned a case manager.after 3 weeks of not being able to contact the case manager, i contaced the head office l and ask customer service to have give me answer.the case manager returned a response to have the engine taken apart to discern the issue.the service manager, did so with no cost to me because at this time i am an unemployed (chicago public school teacher).he found the defect to be from the factory whereby a spring in the valve broke causing the valve to drop down in the engine, which caused the engine to lock.per the service manager, i nor the previous owner are at fault, and explained this to the case manager.the case manager asked him,"what does she want (meaning me) to give her the engine for free"? i am at odds with chyrsler and wonder why i am receiving such disparaging treatment from someone i do not even know?i don't want anything for free!my case # is #; the number to chyrsler is 1-877-426-5337.the cost to repair my vehicle is in excess of $6500.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

While driving at highway speed vehicle lost engine power slowing vehicle on highway. Speed is restored after foot is taken off accelerator and reapplied. Lights appear on days indicating the stability control and an electrical problem.vehicle was brought to mechanic several times and could not locate any problems. Loss of power is now at random intervals at all speeds and all conditions. Mechanic is still unable to locate any problem. Fear an incident could occur at any time resulting in a crash at highway speeds. Lots of information about the same problem located on the web.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. While driving above 40 mph, the speed suddenly reduced and the check engine warning sensor remained illuminated.
As i was slowly pulling into a parking space with my foot on the brake pedal the car was coasting slowly into the spot. I began to depress the brake pedal to beginstopping when suddenly the brake pedal depressed all the way to the floor and the vehicle began to accelerate. I tried to pump the brake and the vehicle continued over the curb into the building. The airbag never deployed. I did not have my foot near the accelerator during this time, the floor mat was nowhere near the accelerator or brake pedal and the vehicle was in drive. The brakes failed to work and the car accelerated on it's own.

Driving on straight residential road at 35 mph.abrupt power loss to vehicle occurred.gas gauge went from half full to below empty.difficult steering and braking.vehicle coasted enough to make right hand turn into a side street.stopped vehicle, removed key from ignition, put the key back in, and the vehicle started. Exact scenarios reported in the news.this vehicle is a 2008 modeland is not subject to the recall that was recently announced whereby the recall year stopped at 2007..

When the vehicle was started, the pin, valve, and engine detached without warning.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who referred the contact to the manufacturer. The contact also called a repair shop. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 162,000.
After driving for about 10 minutes i shut vehicle off came out to start 2 minutes later vehicle would not start. After waiting for road service about half hour vehicle started without any assistance. All lights, gauges and windows worked as they should. This happened several more times after that.
Traveling on the interstate hwy at 70 mph no warning the vehicle shut off. I pulled over to the emergency lane. Shut off engine and it started back up. This has been an ongoing monthly issue, sometimes it shut off 10 to 15 minutes after i have been driving. Sometimes the engine comes on for a few days and goings off. It has become a dangerous situation, when driving i have stay in the right lane so if it happens i wont be stop in the middle of the interstate. This recent time on november 30, 2012 was traveling with business clients, several other times withmy wife and grandchildren. Taken to the dealer, they have tested on their equipment (charge me up to over $200.00 to test) and told me tech couldn't find anything wrong; replace a switch. This issue has forced me in my business to travel to rent a rental car to travel out of the town as before i drove my jeep. This is expense and making a decision if i need to purchase another vehicle: not a jeep.
My wife was driving to work driving approximately 45mph when, engine sounded as if it were in fuel saver mode, she started up a slight grade and engine wouldn't accelerate nor the transmission down shift then the engine shut off with out any warning. She was able to pull over to the side of the road and put the car in park and restart the engine. As of today's date 10/02/2014 this has happened twice.
I have had several occurrences of my jeep stalling while driving. Range in speeds are from 5 - 60mph. Changed a computer and still having the problem.
My jeep will stall while driving it without any warning. I have been driving as slow as 20 mph and recently driving on the expressway at about 60 mph and my car will suddenly stall. There have been times ( as recent as yesterday) that it has stalledwhile driving the expressway and then again at a stop light. It has become increasingly frightening to drivemy car as i never know what will trigger it to stall. There are also instances where it will start only after several attempts. I recently had a full diagnostic check-up done and the mechanic reported he could find nothing wrong.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. While driving various speeds, the vehilce stalled five times in one day. Waxahachie dodge, chrysler, jeep of waxahachie, texas 75167 diagnosed that the wireless ignition module was previously reprogrammed per a recall and that they could not find the source of the stalling failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 138,000.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. The contact stated that while attempting to make a right turn, the vehicle lost power. In addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate over 40 mph. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v567000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 145,000.

After owning the vehicle for several months i had a car accident where a man ran into the back of my 2008 jeep commander due to the vehicle stalled on a street and then shut off.i took the vehicle to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong with the engine.i have driven the vehicle for years without major incident. However here lately the vehicle has stalled and then shut off while driving at speeds between 45-55mph.i have had 2 types of recall work done.however that has notcorrected the problem and the car right now is back at the dealer.
The vehicle will completely shut down (stall) randomly while driving in motion.this happens randomly but consistently.this has happened while driving on highways in speeds of excess of 55mph and on other roads going as slow as 10mph or while in reverse.when this happens, the oil light and check engine light come on and the vehicle locks up with no power steering.the vehicle will start back up again after a few seconds when you turning the key.
Fuel tank where filler hose connects has started to leak when i fill tank.also exhaust manifold bolts are made so small and weak that they brake and dealer keeps telling customers that engine noise of knocking is normal on commander.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. While attempting to start the vehicle, it would start and then shut off without warning. The check engine and oil warning indicators illuminated and the steering wheel locked. The failure also occurred whenever the vehicle was driven at various speeds. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic and a dealer, but the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
"takata recall" i own a 2008 jeep commander with a 3.7 liter engine. I always made my oil change at 50,000 miles or 6 months intervals. I have learned that jeep chrysler and dodge vehicles produced from 2005 to 2012 all have the same problem of the oil pickup tube not working properly or gets clogged with slimso tht no engine oil reaches the pistons and cylinder head. While driving, my engine threw a piston rod trough the engine block and into the oil pan. I am sure that jeep knew of the problem with the oil pickup tube but did nothing to correct the problem since the engine would have to be pulled from the vehicle to replace the oil pickup tube.i love my jeep but again, jeep knew about this issue with the 3.7l engine with the 8th digit of the vin being k.jeep/dodge/chrysler should be responsible for the repairs of these vehicles especially when the engine is now blown all due to a defective oil pickup tube. The customers/owners of these vehicles with the 3,7l engine should be able to get a new engine for free if the engine block has become damaged or replace the oil pickup tubes for those who have yet to have their engine blown.i have seen many complaints about this engine and this was one of the top issue and that being a bad oil pickup tube which causes internal damage to the engine. I was driving in town taking btrash to the dump when it threw a cylinder and sounded like broken metal in the engine. Engine lost compression and had to have vehicle towed home.what i thought may be a starter problem, i noticed that the cylinder actually went thru the block and oil pan. Google up dodge/jeep/chrysler oil pickup tube complaints, you will find that their are many complaints about this issue mainly effecting the vehicles from 2005 to 2012 with the 8th digit of the vin being a letter (k). Like to get my engine replaced with a good used engine at no cost to me.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was repaired, but the issue recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 118,000.

My 2008 jeep commander overland edition has been stalling out and jumping. It started with dying when i would come to a stop at a stop sign or red light. I would put it in park and it would crank back up. It then graduated to "jumping" while i was driving down the interstate at 60+ mph. It would jump as if it came out of gear, but then kick back in and continue as if nothing was wrong. It has now started jumping like that and dying while driving at 60+ mph. It jumps, then dies and we lose power steering. It is very scary and very dangerous. Thankfully i have been able to pull over to the side of the road and put it in park and it start rights back up. I have taken the jeep into the dealership and other mechanics. I am always told that there are no warnings that show up in the computer and they cannot duplicate the issue, so there is nothing they can do. I am afraid that this will cause an accident and possible serious injury before anything is done about this. I have researched this online and discovered that many people have had the same issue, but no one seems to know the cause. I also noticed there was a recall on 1338 jeeps because some part was causing them to stall out. When i called chrysler, they told me that my jeep was not included in the recall. I find it strange that my jeep is having the same issue, but i am being told that the recall doesn't affect me. I need to know what is causing this issue with my car and would like to find out before anyone is seriously hurt.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander.while driving between 5-25 mph, the engine jerked when the gears were shifted.the dealer performed a diagnostic and found multiple failures with the vehicle.the manufacturer will be notified.the contact felt that the vehicle was unsafe to drive because it could cause the vehicle to shut off while driving at a high rate of speed.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was 16,800 and failure mileage was 16,000.

Yesterday, 07/21/2011, this vehicle stalled out twice while in operation while my wife was running errands in normal city traffic.in both cases she was able to steer the vehicle to the side of the road using the vehicle's momentum and was she was able to restart the vehicle a short while later.this is the first time that the complaint issue has actually resulted in the vehicle stalling out while in traffic.it is also the first time that the complaint issue has occurred in such rapid succession - for the last couple of years the frequency has been once every 3 or 4 months, now it is becoming once or twice a week (or in this case, in a day).unable to add the last few lines of consumers sentence as the
Chrysler has a recall on electrical systems on the 2008 jeep commander.the recall details loss of headlights, wipers, blinkers, and for the engine to stall.but they are only covering it on certain vins.our 2008 jeep commander has suddenly experienced all these problems.my husbands head lights went out in the middle of driving in the dark.the wipers quit working, we have no blinkers, and the engine keeps stalling.we called the chrysler corporation and they refuse to take our jeep in on the recall, yet acknowledged it had all the signs of the recall, they said it had too many miles.we have three small children and the recall states that it is a serious problem and could cause a crash.so what are we too do know?
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the air bag warning light illuminated and the headlights malfunctioned. Also, the contact mentioned that the ignition switch seized on the accessory position. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v567000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.
Every day is a guessing game with this jeep and what it's going to do or when i'm going to get injured due to one of these numerous, chronic, magical issues.
You will be going down the road and the car will stall on you in the middle of the road. No warning.
2008 jeep commander.consumer writes in regards to vehicle stalling.the consumer noticed on hot day, when the gas was 1/4 or less, it would stall.the consumer installed a heat insulator on the fuel rail and replaced the fuel cap. However, in february when it was 45 degrees and the tank was 3/4 full, the vehicle stalled.several months later, the consumer received recall # 14v567000. However, the parts were not available.
Jeep would not start.starter continued to turn check engine light illuminated.was able to get engine started once but starter didn't disengage.had vehicle towed to dealership.dealership was unable to investigate it for four days (thurs. - sunday)when i called on monday afternoon they could not locate my vehicle in the computer.i contacted the service manager.half an hour later they told me my jeep needs a new fuel pump and would be ready tomorrow afternoon.they couldn't find it earlier because the technician did not enter the vehicle in the computer under my name.the jeep is 2 months old with only 1600 miles on it.i only got a rental car for my troubles because i purchased an extended warranty.normal warranty makes no provisions for a loaner vehicle.this is not the 5 star service i have come to expect.a brand new vehicle that doesn't start should receive priority status.if i had known it would take desert dodge 4 days to look at my vehicle i would have had it towed to the other 5 star dealer in las vegas or waited for an appointment as i still have to pay tax on the rental car and my warranty is only for 5 days.
Fuel tank where filler hose connects has started to leak when i fill tank.also exhaust manifold bolts are made so small and weak that they brake and dealer keeps telling customers that engine noise of knocking is normal on commander.

Started jeep, backed out of parking space, turned left out of parking lot, drove 20 feet to stop sign, jeep stalled while waiting for traffic to clear for left hand turn.
Bought jeep brand new. Only couple months later my fob wouldnt start car. Just dead. Tried to start 20 times both fobs. Randomly started next day. Brought to dealer they were perplexed replaced fob. Several times through the years jeep wont start with fob and then randomly does had it towed 2 times. I dont trust to take it far. Once when driving on street. Jeep just shut off.very scary i looked at panel no lights no nothing. I was lucky i wasnt on a highway or cause an accident.no power steering forgot no power cant steer.veered over took fob out , prayed..started up. I didnt hit it with my knee (ive read that could happen)also my fob always had a good battery. I know there are several recalls on my make and model that match my issues but when i check my vin # it doesnt come up. I have other issues that match recalls also that i will use the other categories.the date will be the time i was driving since was most dangerous

I know now that im not the only one with this problem, my2008 jeep commander looses power as im driving at a regular speed. I press the gas pedal and does nothing then i pull over to side of road try again, and it works again. After the 5th time i've been taking it to 3 different diagnose and repair shops but they cant find the problem but it still does it sometimes. I never had any problems with it before, i take it to get maintence my husband just bought new tires, new battery for it, and this happens.allim just asking is to please try and find outwhat the problem is and fix it because we have a 3 year old daughter and every time we go out, she gets scared thinking that the car in back of us is going to hit us. Please dont wait until something like that happens.

Vehicle drops from 70 mph to 30 mph unexpectedly and frequently. Unable to get out of first gear. Adding 1 quart transmission fluid lasts for a few days. No leaks seen by 3 mechanics

2008 jeep commander, 4.7l flexfuel, bought new in 12/08, has worked flawlessly for four years and 66,000 miles until now.the vehicle will stall out at any speed, from low 30mph to highway speeds.requires that the car be safely pulled to the side of the road, transmission placed in park and key turned off and then on again.no prior indication of stall - it simply 'quits'.no evic messages or dash warning lights.the jeep has been meticulously maintained and not abused or neglected.this is an intermittent problem, that to date, has occurred five times since it began about five weeks ago.just prior to stalling the drive train will quickly and violently shutter leading me to believe the transmission is doing something it shouldn't do.i have not yet brought this to chrysler since from reading other posts chrysler has no idea what to do.i have been fortunate so far in being able to safely pull over but fear that one day i may be in a perilous situation.my family has all jeeps (91 cherokee, 06 gr. Cherokee, and 08 commander) and love them.this does not bode well for buying a new jeep in the future.
2008 jeep commander, stall for no reason while slowing down on freeway, transmission stopped working in forward gears while in the middle of the desert, still waiting for repairs to be done.
2008 jeep commander. Consumer states the vehicle has a transmission problem. *tgwthe vehicle would stall and there was a shifting problem. A technician discovered the incorrect transmission was installed in the vehicle.the consumer believed the wrong transmission was installed at the manufacturer.
2008 jeep commander. Consumer writes in regards to several issues with vehicle *tgwthe check engine light and traction control light illuminated and the vehicle stalled.the dealer could not diagnose the problem as there were no fault codes.two days later, the dealer replaced the crank sensor. Four months later, the check engine and traction control light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. One week later, the same lights illuminated and the vehicle stalled.on december 2, 2009 the vehicle stalled again.the check engine light and traction control light continued to illuminated for several months. The stalling continued as well.the consumer also had problems with the vehicle hesitating at times. The dealer replaced the power train control module. They also replaced the stream o2 sensors and rest the controller.
Since purchasing the vehicle i have stalled 3 times. 1st time taken in repair said nothing was wrong, same as second, finally 3rd time in repair discovered a software problem.to be quite honest i'm driving a new suv that i don't feel safe in.when i park my suv and pull my emergencybrake upward my neighbors 4 houses down can hear my screech sound when i release my foot brake.yet everytime i've taken it in nothing is wrong.stuck with it.
The latch on the 2nd row passenger side seat belt fell apart and is unusable. The latch on the 2nd row drivers side seat belt is malfunctioning. It does not always accept the seat belt and if it does, will not release without significant force making it also unusable. Not only do we have no seat belts in the 2nd row (except for small center seat) but this is also causing the airbag warning indicator to come on & off while driving.
1) the seat belt casing breaks away from the seat belt making it difficult if not impossible to insert and connect seat belt into receptacle.2) interior door handle (rear passenger) suddenly quit working, not allowing passenger to exit vehicle.this is a serious safety issue in the event of an accident or other necessary emergency exit scenario.
1.i was in an accident in which my vehicle rear-ended another.most of the front end of my vehicle will have to be replaced.the vehicle that was rear-ended is a total loss.2.at the time of impact i was wearing my safety belt but it did not lock causing my upper body to hit the steering wheel with great force.also none of my air bags deployed.3.i have contacted the dealership and chrysler to make them aware of the failures.at this time, nothing has been done to correct these problems.
The seat belts in the 3rd row have basically come apart. We have one on the second row that is begining to malfunction as well. Big problem when i habe 3 children that i take to & from school & events!! big problem!!
There is tearing and fraying of the driver's side seat belt which is causing the belt to get stuck in the loops of the seat belt mechanism and making it difficult to buckle the seat belt.the biggest concern is if it does get stuck and lock into place wherein i cannot move or open the belt due to the fact that it gets tight this is definitely a safety hazard. In addition to which, the seat belt does not retract properly due to the tearing.in addition, the seat belt on the passenger side show signs of tearing also.this is definitely a safety hazard issue especially due to the fact of what has happened on the driver's side is now happening on the passenger side.there is obviously a defect in the mechanics, components and/or material of the seat belts and chrysler is not recognizing this as their responsibility.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. The contact stated that the second row driver and passenger side seat belt buckles malfunctioned and would not properly lock and/or unlock. On occasions, while driving, the buckles would erroneously unlock. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (sherwood jeep, 1915 n. Salisbury blvd, salisbury, md) was notified. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 120,000. *dt
I called last 8/9/18 to brought the attention on what's going on with my vehicle. I received a respond from nhtsa dated 8/28/18. Please review your computer system from my report. There is additional problem that i just experienced recently when we have a severe storm happened last 8/10/18 the sun roof was leaking and it flooded the driver side floor. I have to clear the water and open all the doors to let it dry and applied anti mold disenfectant to protect our health. Also the computer system discontinued working. The system monitor failed. Dealer was asking $ 800.00 to fixmonitor system. Some of the issues in this vehicle was not brought to the dealer due to i have no funds to pay for the service. Not all people have a substantiate funds especially i'm out of job. I was not sure if i am the second owner of this vehicle because we bought it use. When we bought it the mileage was 125000 miles. I'm not sure the history of this vehicle. I suggest that you might find that information through the dealer. As i recollect my past complaints was, while driving 40 miles (mph) the speed suddenly reduced and the check engine light warning sensor remained illuminated. In addition, the front driver seat would erroneously change positioned whole operating the vehicle. In addition to this both seat belt at the back passenger side was not working so passenger cannot access it while traveling. When i turned on the heater nor air-condition there was a roaring sound coming from the air-condition vent especially when it was turned on high.so over all this is my respond from the letter that you have send date 8/28/18.if you have any more question in regards to my respond from your letter please feel free to write at [xxx] or my contact number [xxx]. My email: [xxx][xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Seat belt alarm is malfunctioning. Even though the seat belt is buckled, the alarm constantly goes off while the car is in motion on a city street and a highway. It's a safety hazard because it's a distraction while driving. It also encourages the driver to take off their seat belt to see if they can deactive the sensor by having to rebuckle again.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. While driving above 40 mph, the speed suddenly reduced and the check engine warning sensor remained illuminated. In addition, the front driver's seat would erroneously change positions while operating the vehicle. The failures were not diagnosed or repaired. I have had several occurrences of my jeep stalling while driving. Range in speeds are from 5 - 60mph. Changed a computer and still having the problem.
I was driving my son to hockey and there was traffic stopped in front of me i went to hit the brakes and the pedal was hard i kept stomping on the pedal and nothing i ended up rear ending another vehicle my jeep was off after the crash and i thought nothing of it, i thought i was losing my mind that maybe my sandal got stuck but the more i thought about it the more and more i realized i did stomp on my pedal my 17 year old son was with me and he told me at one point i literally sat up trying to push on the pedal i'm aggravated and stressed about the entire thing so i decided to look for recalls trying to explain what happened and came across a incomplete recall, i swear on my 3 kids i stomped on that pedal and wasn't losing my mind nothing made sense so my jeep is pretty much totaled, i'm not sure what to do i don't want this to fall back on me which it already has
Abs brake slip control lights stay on
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. While the vehicle was stationary, the key became stuck in the ignition. In addition, the air bag, abs, and traction control indicators illuminated. Napleton's river oaks chrysler dodge jeep ram in lansing, illinois was made aware of the failure and replaced the ignition switch and the ignition key. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
Parking assistant brake light comes on.whenever car is driven over a bump loud clanking noise happens. Took care to muffler man thinking it was a broken bracket however the mechanic said because of the design of the parking brake over the chassis it rubs and has wore down the rubber casing therefore the brakeline is exposed. Was told to take it to the dealership.this is my 2nd complaint andnow have another issue to enter. When does this become a lemon law issue? 2008 jeep commander safety issue where it completely looses all electrical and motor systems while driving or idling. It stalls out only at low rpm or when shifting from first to second gear. I lost all systems including steering, brakes, and hazard lights. This happened to me several times in the past week nearly causing an accident. Dealership and private auto mechanic could not diagnose and it leaves no system events. I contacted chrysler to see if this was related to an earlier model commander recall with the exact same problem and they grew angry with me and hung up.

Having an electrical switch issue with my jeep. The key locks in the ignition and the car will not start. Also the airbag sign says something is wrong.

While relocating and driving on a major interstate highway, the pre-owned vehicle with 87,684 at time of purchase, the 4 wheel drive system came on by itself and stayed in high and is still in high and if the vehicle is driven will need to be disconnected.the power steering locked, shredded belts.then, the engine ran hot for no more than a mile on an interstate highway with no warning. Due to the power steering locking up, combustion caused head gasket problems.
It seem that the majority / every jeep commander or g. Cherokee has gone through one or more rack and pinion replacements.it is difficult to even find a steering rack to replace the defective one... As if that will last long.chrysler needs to address this issue as if there are not enough issues with these newer jeeps.i will never purchase a 2005 or newer jeep again!chrysler has really dropped the ball on this and completely ruined a great name for jeep and their products.this jeep is falling apart at not even 80k miles.if i had to pay someone - the dealer /"stealer" to replace all the defective parts i would have to sell my home.i have buckets and buckets of parts (rubber suspension components, ball joints, seized brake components etc etc) and now this.nothing can be worked on, if you take it apart you better buy a new one.everything is throw away.
My commander keeps shaking violently at freeway speed. Have timken it to get struts/shocks replaced, balanced, and did an alignment and rotation and it still does it. Very dangerous and i have kids and need my jeep to transport thm from point a to point but
My 2008 jeep commander overland edition has shut off multiple times while i am driving down the interstate at 60 + mph.
We had a very hard rain and when i went to my jeep the driver side floor was full of water. I started my jeep up and my radio speakers stopped working.before i purchased the jeep chrysler had to fix a water problem because it was flooding the passenger side floor and they had to fix the speakers because the back speakers were not working. Now i'm having the same issues but now they want me to pay. Please help.
Water leaks in on the drivers side during rain.there is about 1 cup of water on the floor mat.this happens every time it rainslooks to becoming from behind the dashboard. Driver side speaker is making a popping sound.

Front and shutters and feels like it may vibrate of the road. Also the trans slips into neutral.
Both lower arm bushings have substantial movement resulting in unsafe steering and clunky noise.this vehicle has not been abused or used off road.
The recall (n23nhtsa 13v 225) per shanepua, of chrysler, that is nowcausing major problems on my vehicle was not tasked to my specific vehicle and they won't honor the recall.the other 2 recalls were poorly done in feb 2020 and is now again causing problems.

Upon driving my jeep commanderthe car will slow down. You have to pull over shut the car off and restart and slowly excel and sometimes it will happen again. I have had the traction indicator come on occasionally. The car only has 87,000 miles is this part of the recall?
My commander keeps shaking violently at freeway speed. Have timken it to get struts/shocks replaced, balanced, and did an alignment and rotation and it still does it. Very dangerous and i have kids and need my jeep to transport thm from point a to point but
Jeep will not start. It displays transmission over temp for a split second as you turn on the key. The jeep sat overnight in the driveway before trying to start it the next morning, and it did not start.
Recall p57 was never fulfilled on my vehicle. I filled out the recall card and mailed it but never heard anything and my vehicle seems to be having issues from what this recall entailed. Please advise how i can get this recall fixed on my vehicle.i've had off and on issues with it at starting and have had it in the shop with no true resolution and sunday 10/25 it started again.thanks, angie
Thank you

I received a recall on my 08 commander last october and have waited for an update. The key sticks in the ignition, will not let loose and stays running. I had it diagnosed may 2015 per request of the jeep customer care and have spoken with jeep care and customer service multiple times since then. After the diagnostic in sterling co they talked to jeep and it was decided it is the recall however there is no solution. I explained the issue is getting worse and we have 3 kids we transport this is not a safe vehicle. I was told there was a priority email sent and i would get a loaner or a solution since the vehicle is unsafe. Since then i have been hung up on over 4 times from jeeps customer care and have been told my "agent" would like another diagnostic at no cost to me. I have not received any calls back from my designated agent with jeep and continue to be told by customer care that they are sorry but there is no parts available to fix the ignition switch. I called 877-426-5337 for the customer service as well as other numbers given to me. The jeep was diagnosed at wolf auto 970-522-0864. All i have asked for is a way to make the vehicle safe and for us to be able to drive it. It has come to a point where we try not to take it anywhere because we don't know if the key will come out or not. Jeep customer service has been very poor with their assistance and keep putting me on the back burner.
Jeep commander 2008 hemi 5.7 ignition faulty and will not start part of the time and vehicle will shut down without warning. My jeep has the ability to choose when it wants to start- turn the key solenoid clicks but will not start, place shifter in neutral starts right up, other times while in neutral roll it back and the vehicle starts. Ah-haaa moment that every mechanic goes to is that its the starter which i have replaced- wrong 2 times! same problem with second new starter, ah-haa its the battery- nope! another $150 down the drain, relays- nope! still intermittent at best, jeep starts when it wants!!! i have tried every mix and match of ways to start the vehicle and it will literally start when your on your last nerve or after you walk home, call a tow truck and go back to your jeep - wha-laa it starts! you also take it to the dealer who checks it on the computer and states "we cant find anything, cant find anything wrong with it (and even though jeep has a recall and your car is unsafe to drive) that we have to give you your keys back and get you on your way". Real safe jeep- loosing fans fast. Ok venting over- still a fan of jeep but this is an obvious problem that according to numerous internet sites that a ton of commander owners are having. I wish jeep would give an update as my commander is sitting at a dealership in kettering ohio with technicians that are stating "its the starter". My response was that i want the ignition recall fixed, funny thing was that they stated that chrysler did have alternate parts that would work (costing $450 to install) but not covered under the warranty repair. I stated my case and was informed that the dealership was going to contact c.j.d. And request a override on the cost to get my jeep starting again.
Cooling system.... Hoses getting tight and water not circulating. Top ratiorter cap cold. Also saying check gauges. Idels for 15 minutes then hoeses get tight hot gauge goes all the way over into the red.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. While driving various speeds, the radio continuously turned on and off, the sun roof became inoperable, and the vehicle would not accelerate above 2 mph. When the contact attempted to accelerate, the vehicle nearly stalled and caused the service park assist, air bag, ebs, and traction control indicators to illuminate. The contact managed to pull over and shut off the vehicle for approximately five minutes. When the vehicle was restarted, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Woke up and it wouldnā€™t crank, been driving it every day, ignition module front control module may be bad like stated in the recall, wonā€™t turn over or crank, transmission input output sensors idk maybe transmission module, wouldnā€™t go over 40 iā€™m wondering if my jeep has problems like statedin the recall. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact also stated that the engine warning light had previously illuminated and the cruise control was activated but independently deactivated and over time failed to function. The vehicle had been taken to a dealer but the contact was unsure about what needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v567000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000.
The recall (n23nhtsa 13v 225) per shanepua, of chrysler, that is nowcausing major problems on my vehicle was not tasked to my specific vehicle and they won't honor the recall.the other 2 recalls were poorly done in feb 2020 and is now again causing problems.
The car star decreasing speed and wont accelerate. Have to park turn it off and star it again and happen more frequently.
As i was slowly pulling into a parking space with my foot on the brake pedal the car was coasting slowly into the spot. I began to depress the brake pedal to beginstopping when suddenly the brake pedal depressed all the way to the floor and the vehicle began to accelerate. I tried to pump the brake and the vehicle continued over the curb into the building. The airbag never deployed. I did not have my foot near the accelerator during this time, the floor mat was nowhere near the accelerator or brake pedal and the vehicle was in drive. The brakes failed to work and the car accelerated on it's own.
I have had several occurrences of my jeep stalling while driving. Range in speeds are from 5 - 60mph. Changed a computer and still having the problem.

I have owned two jeep commanders.1st was a 2006 commander that i leased.seems to be a problem with the windshield cracking easily.i had to replace 2 windshields on the vehicle.i traded it in and purchased a 2008 commander.within one week, i already have a rock chip.seems to be a defect with the windshields they are putting on this vehicle.
Every day is a guessing game with this jeep and what it's going to do or when i'm going to get injured due to one of these numerous, chronic, magical issues.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph the check engine light illuminated, the radio turned off, the sun roof failed, and the majority of the lights on the dashboard began to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and was informed that the front control module would need to be replaced. The contact learned referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 08v059000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer) and contacted the manufacturer but was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall despite experiencing the same failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 55,000.
In the beginning of december, while drivingdown the highway at about 58 mph, an oncoming car threw a rock up and chipped our windshield. We had this chip repaired by our insurance company. A week or so later, another rock was thrown up and chipped our windshield again while going around 55 mph. In the beginning of february while leaving our house, about 2 minutes into the drive, our passenger side windshield cracked. (about a 12+ inch crack.) on our way home that day another rock was thrown and chipped that windshield while going around 55 mph. We contacted the insurance company and had that windshield replaced because it could not be repaired. Now about 3 weeks later, another rock was thrown up and chipped our brand new windshield going 60 mph. I have looked up other commander reviews and see that this is a common problem with this vehicle. This is a safety concern and quite an inconvenience for commander owners and something needs to be done.
The passenger side mirror and bronzed and has what looks like veins running toward the middle of the mirror. I am not able to see clearly at all from the inside of the jeep. This is a safety hazard due to the size of the vehicle. I contacted the dealership and the manufacturer. I was told the part was discontinued and not covered by my lifetime warranty. The dealer and body shops have told me they experienced several complaints with this issue. The mirror has defrost and electrical movement. I feel this part is defective and there should be a recall for safety issues. My jeep only has approximately 69,500 miles and is in excellent condition other than this mirror. The side mirror and not been damaged in any way physically for this to have happened. The glass is smooth and does reflect light, however, i cannot see clearly at all from the driver seat. The bronzing does not allow a reflection in the mirror of what is beside me.

She was informed the reason for the stalling was unknown since there were no codes. She also had electrical problems involving the windows and sunroof. The windows/sunroof opened/closed unprompted. The rear passenger side window motor went out. When i looked it up on the www it showed a lot of same problems with this year.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander. While driving approximately 50 mph, the sun roof suddenly separated from the vehicle. During the incident, the sun roof was in the closed position. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 87,000.

After a night of 28 weather, noticed a crack in the windshield on the passenger side stemming up from the wiper blade area, forming an upside-down"l" shape angled to the passenger side of the vehicle. No impact from an object had occurred. Upon driving the same morning and stopping at a gas station, when i re-entered the vehicle noticed the exact same upside-down l-shape crack had occurred on the drivers side while pumping gas. Again, the crack appeared without any impact from an object. The two l-shaped cracks are symmetrical to each other, one on each side of the windshield, both stemming from the two wiper areas, which seems to be related to having the defrost running during cold weather. I have contacted the dealership and will be going there after work today. Hopefully this will be covered under warranty with no cost to me, as it seems to be a defect in the windshield. The consumer stated the cracked windshield was actually caused by the impact of an object and not due to defective glass. The consumer wished to retract his complaint. Updated 12/12/08.
One month after picking up my 2008 jeep commander i was driving down the interstate at approximately 70mph.a rock from a truck in front of me struck the windshield near the frame in front of the driver.i could not initially see the chip.i parked the car in the driveway.when i returned to the car an hour later the chip had expanded into a 12 inch crack that continued to grow over the course of the next week.i filed a claim with my insurance company and had the entire windshield replaced.i thought it was just bad luck until reading the numerous complaints about the inferior commander windshield.
Being having problems with windshield in my jeep commander suv. It cracks easily i had owned it for 2 years and called windshield repair guy 4 times to fix 4 different cracks caused by stones on road costing me $35 dollars each time, yesterday i was barely accessing the hwy another stone hit my windshield again creating a huge crack again it seems to me windshield too weak.
Only after 3 weeks of driving, the windshield developed a crack starting at the center of the dashboard and spreading up and to the drivers side.there was no impact or object that impacted the windshield that caused this crack.it seemed to occur in response to the heat being lowered in the car during a very cold night (around 28f ).the crack has rapidly spread to about 2 feet in three days.
I just purchased my 2008 jeep commander almost 3 weeks ago and i already have a cracked windshield. At first it was just a little star that turned into a very large crack in just a matter of hours.it was a very small rock that made a very big crack. Now my navigation system is bugging out.
Tire valve stem corrosion. Tire valve stems corrode and break off very easily. Lucky for me the valve stem broke off while i was parked and filling the tire and not while i was driving. Could cause serious problem if it happened while driving causing the tire to loose air pressure rapidly. I have researched and found this is a very common problem for my make and model jeep. I replaced all of my valve stems for safety purposes and they cost $107.00 with parts, labor and tax at a jeep dealership. Believe there should be a recall on it due to jeep knowing about the problem and not doing anything to fix it. Could cause serious injury or death if not taken care of soon.
