I soon called the repair shop back and complained of the airbag light being on intermittently, 4x4 service light and parking and brake lights also working intermittently. I called automation and was told that my complaints were not in the recall and or under a warranty with them and to pay for a service appointment. I could not afford the services so no go. I still have these issues off and on and just got a service repair recall notice in 9/2010. The warning light came on indicating that the airbag safety restraint system was offline. Jeep dealer was able to fix the problem.
While driving noticed windows, sunroof, radio, seats, air conditioning systems where not operating at all. Then airbag light came on, along with service four wheel drive system warning indicator came on. Tried restarting and resetting systems but had no luck. Had a friend bring other key fob and all systems but four wheel drive were normal for remainder of fifteen mile trip. Upon notifying dealership about recall notice received for transfer case programming. They assured my family it would solve all problems. Being an honest mechanic that i am, i took there word. Two weeks later same problems and was getting worse fuel mileage then before programming.(6 mpg less) i had to leave work to take commander back to dealership. They said programming didn't program. After leaving returned to work and decided to test four wheel drive. Same results, service four wheel system light and four low didn't work. Returned third time four low worked for one week but radio completely stopped producing sound. Now they say i'm out of my ten thousand mile programming warranty. I would rather have old programming back at least then i could use four low and it didn't shift into neutral when i let off throttle. Very worried about families safety. Please help!

Chrysler has a recall out for faulty ignition switches. The recall notices were issued in sept 2014. It is now mid dec and there are no parts and no remedy for this when in contact with chrysler directly. On the recall it states that the engine can stop due to electrical failure w/in the veh with out notice as well as the power steering can be lost and or the braking all of which increase your crash potential. There is also warning that the air bags can deploy w/o warning causing bodily harm to both the driver and passengers. They are aware there is an issue and state they still have done nothing to resolve - inexcusable!!!

Severe collision with the front end of my vehicle. I was driving at approx 50 mph when the car ahead suddenly stopped. I applied my brakes and skidded into the other vehicle's rear end. From the skid marks starting at the point of contact my vehicle took approx another 35 feet to stop. I believe my vehicle's speed was 30 mph. It was a solid hit as my vehicle nose dived and hit bumper to bumper. The rear of the other vehicle's bumper was forced down to the ground and gouged the pavement. My vehicle then continued to crush in the entire rear of the car and my hood struck the rear window. The other car then traveled about 50 feet further resting upon a telephone pole. I believe that the impact was severe and of sufficient speed that the air bags and or the seat belt retractors should have engaged. I was seat belted in at the time of the impact but still received a minor concussion and whiplash. My vehicle's damage was quite severe and is estimated in excess of $14,000.00. Both frame rails are bent and at the very least the left one will need replacement. The vehicle a, 2008 jeep commander was purchased new by myself in may 2008. All warning lights were off and all systems note no problems. By this i mean that the air bag lamp and seat belt lamp still operate even after the crash. The vehicle was towed to the body shop and await your advise as how to proceed. The vehicle has been appraised by my insurance company, and even their adjuster along with the police, emergency people have all questioned as to why my safety air bags did not deploy. The vehicle has not been disassembled nor has anyone messed with the vehicle before or after the crash.
I was involdved in a 2mv/pd accident where i "t-boned" a vehicle that ran a stop sign. I after i truck the vehicle i forced both vehicles through a deep ditch and into a field. I dont recall any of the accident but at some point after the initial collision my 2008 jeep commander rolled at least once landing on its wheels. My vehicle roof made contact with the ground just above the driver's seat and also where the windshield and roof meet on the driver's side. After being released from the hospital with a sever concussion and brain swelling, and a lacerated left temporal artery due to by head hitting the side beam on the driver's side, i observed my vehicle. It concerns me because upon observing the vehicle i found that none of the side curtain airbags deployed. I cant say for sure if these airbags would have deployed if it would have made a difference in my injuries but the thought still sticks in my mind. I would hate for this to be a reoccuring theme for these vehicles and possibly cost someone their life.

2008 jeep commander 4x4 loses all power at high speedstaken back to reedman-toll dealership x2 in april 2014 and aug 2014, and they cannot identify problem.reedman told us gas cap could cause engine light to go on, or win module, which was replaced once, may need to be replaced because key chain is too heavy (cannot have multiple keys on chain) and may need tune up.it s soo scary and dangerous now we see there have been numerous complaints filed.is this caused by the camshaft position sensor?is there a recall?at. 50-60 mph the engine with hesitate and stalls out at high speeds and require a shift into neutral to restart. All power is lost: steering and brakes! .......manufacturer: chrysler group llcvehicle identification no. (vin): [xxx]...summary:my vehicle stalled over 5 times in first 10 minutes of operation. Once i got to 50-60 mph the engine with hesitate and stall out at high speeds and require a shift into neutral to restart. This has been a consistent issue with my jeep commander since the day i purchased it in 2012. I have had the vehicle in to jeep/chrysler on 4 different occasions and they have never found the issue. I had to leave my vehicle with naperville chrysler/jeep/ram/dodge on friday 6/20 because it was not drivable and dangerous. They determined that it was the camshaft position sensor. I have read that 100's if not 1000's of jeep owners have had similar issues and to date no recall or fix. Shame on chrysler, somebody will be injured because this issue. Ignition switch failure. Latest recall includes 2008 called and does not include my vehicle. I thought this nightmare was finally over. Since shortly after purchase has been occurring. Completely loses all power-steering, breaking..everything completely shuts down. Has occurred in 80 mph traffic in downtown atlanta, on a railroad track (due to bump) in the middle of a busy interaction, speeding up to make a left turn into traffic etc. Took everything off key and did no good except made me lose my extra keythis vehicle is a death trap. I owe 18k+ and can't drive it or i risk my life and the life of my children. Was rear ended twice within a month so i gave up an stopped driving.

Previously owned jeep commander was purchased from a chrysler dealership in 2012.since then we have had unusually short battery life:the battery in the car has had to be replaced 2 times in the past two years (warrantied 3 year battery life from manufacturer).additionally, the car has failed to start atleast 5 times in the past two years.the battery power will be fine, but the ignition will refuse to engage(no clicking sound.)if another battery is hooked up to the engine, it will start just fine without any waiting period to charge battery since the car's battery will still be fully charged.today the engine wouldn't turn over at all and we finally brought the car to the dealership for them figure out what is going on since we weren't able to jump the engine this time. We have taken the car into the dealership before, and the technicians were unable to identify any problem, so it shouldn't be a broken or worn down part(especially since we've been having this problem since the 60,000/4 year old mark). Additionally, the car will not display any fault messages, so it either can't sense the ignition problem, or hasn't been program to understand there are power anomalies in the starter/ignition system.

While attempting to start my 08 jeep commander it was completely dead. I had it taken to the dealership and they told me that it was the ignition switch and key fob. When all was said and done it cost me over $300 for the repair. I have seen that recall p57 was active on jeep commanders from manufacture dates of 5-12-08 and earlier, my manufacture date is 5-16-08. This seems to be awfully close to the recall date to not be include especially since mine was for the same issue.

While driving through a commercial shopping area in cranston, rhode island, our 2008 jeep commander overland stalled while driving.my wife was able to coast off of the road out of traffic next to the side of the street.the truck restarted after a few minutes.
Electrical problem sometimes when i start the jeepmy radio will not come on it won't come until i cut it off and started it back up sometimes it take 2-4 starts.water problem i have water coming in on the passenger side floor board every time a hard rain comes. Can't find where it comes from. Looked on youtube about 6 people had the same problem with the same kind of jeep commander. 2008. This has been going on for 8 year on and off some.i bought the jeep in 2009 the 1st year itleaked a puddle the next year it didn't leak as bad i thought i was leaving the window down but, i was not it is coming in from the sunroof tray somehow i believeget full and leaks down in on the passger side floor borard. A lot of 2008 jeep owners are having the same problem.chrysler need to do something about ittoo many people are on youtube complain about the same thing it should be a recall on them.

I purchased my 2008 jeep commander in may2011, about two weeks after i had the vehicle, i went to start it one day and it would not start. I opened the hood and tested my battery, no problems with it, so i turned the key again and it started. I continued to have this issues every since, sometimes it will go two weeks starting fine and then out of the blue it will not start. The latest incident happened on 14 sept 2011, this was the first time that the vehicle would not start at all (usually when this happens it will start after a few minutes) so on this day i had it towed to a garage, they told me they couldnt find nothing wrong with it, but said maybe you just need a new battery, so i purchased a battery for the jeep installed it and for two days it was great, so i thought ok maybe it has been the battery after all this time. Today 18 sept 2011, it happened again, but this time it started after 5 minutes. I started researching the problem online, and this is when i learned of the recalls for multiple reasons on these vehicles. I live in upstate new york and winter is approaching, i dont want to be stranded with my family somewhere. I just really want to know exactly what is going on before i put money into a never ending problem.
Driving my 2008 jeep commander on the highway approximately 55mph and the vehicle stalled and the entire electrical system power went out. Had to pull over turn off the vehicle, pull the key out, and restart. Vehicle resumed normal operation.i have experienced many times since i purchased the vehicle in 2008 where my electrical system failed, and one previous occurrence where the engine stalled and the electrical system failed, but on those occurrences the vehicle was not in motion. I have taken it into the dealer on numerous occasions since 2008 and described the problem with feedback from the dealer that there was no recall for my vehicle and that they could not duplicate the symptoms i was experiencing.investigated on nhtsa.gov and noticed the issue, campaign id number 08v059000. This campaign almost exactly describes the issue i am experiencing. However it states that they only recalled 1338 vehicles in 2008, and mine was obviously not one of them. The dealer should atleast know of the issue and/or i should be notified by chrysler, which i was not.
Have had multiple issues with jeep stalling.for 2 years now it has randomly stalled after passing over large uneven surfaces in road.have taken in to chrysler jeep facilities and was told nothing could be diagnosed. A new issue is when i am simply driving the vehicle will stall. Having my 3 small children in the car when this happened yesterday was beyond terrifying. Someone is going to be seriously injured or killed with this problem that seems to be a commonality in jeeps. Something needs to be done.
Commander would not restart after driving and stopping for 20 minutes. Got it restarted next morning then wouldn't restart until jiggled the gearshifter in neutral. Brought to dealer who replaced front control module ($ 900). Got car and worked for a couple days then it happened again.brought back to dealer who replaced the ignition. Same problem happened yesterday but today after sitting for 5 hours would not restart. Seems like a common issue that needs to be addressed by manufacture.

I was dirving and lost all power to the vehicle.the engine stopped, no power steering and no power brake.the managed with much difficulty to safely pull the vehicle to the side of the road and re-start it.this is the second time this has happened in the last 2 months.it creates a very dangerous situation and is a major saftey issue as it is nearly impossible to turn or stop the vehicle.
On july 21, 2010 my blinkers and dash lights were not functioning. I took the vehicle to the dealership for repair. They replaced the multi-function switch and updated the key fobs per a recall notice.$240.32 charge.on august 24th, 2010 i experienced being locked inside of my vehicle in 100 degree heat. I could not open the windows, doors, or sunroof. The a/c did not function and the dash lights were not functioning. At this time they did something to the control module. Under warranty - no charge.on july 13, 2012 i took it to the dealership because the vehicle was stalling at high rates of speed (it felt like we were being rear-ended), the check engine and other warning lights were illuminating. They reprogrammed the pcm. Under warranty - no charge.on october 4, 2012 i returned to the dealership as the vehicle was again stalling at high rates of speed, and also shutting off at low rates of speed or while idling. The service department was able to reproduce the problem and replaced the powertrain control module. Under warranty - no charge.today while driving i experienced both stalling at high speeds and the vehicle turning off at low speed. I have another appointment scheduled for tomorrow.my safety and the safety of others is at risk by driving this vehicle.
On numerous occassions our 2008 jeep commander overland will not start.i'll insert the key fob into the slot, turn, and then nothing happens.usually after a few attempts the truck will start.(the dealership currently has the truck and still is unable to resolve or isolate the problem).

While driving, pulled to red light and stopped.2008 jeep commander with the v6 shut down, lost all power.key would not disengage, totally locked up.called for roadside and after fifteen minutes, turned key and jeep started.drove to dealership.they found nothing on the onboard computer but tightened the battery cables and replaced the key fobs.as this is a commuter vehicle and it seems this problem has happened with other jeep commanders while going at speeds up to 50 mph.i'm very concerned that this is an issue that should be resolved, before someone gets hurt.

I own a 2008 jeep commander. I bought it on june 2010the traction light first came on about 3 month after igot it fix at the chrysler dealer were i bought it. Then 3 month later the car was parked then when i tried to put the key to start it nothing i just saw a flicker that said bad key. Had it tow tothe dealer ship and they said it was the control modular sensor and had to replace i asked if it was part of the electrical recall they said no now 3 month later my radio has gone out i hope it is not the electrical modular again. I did e-mail the company and they said it was not part of the recall
The vehicle was running stopped at a traffic light when the radio shut off, the windshield wipers engaged, all of the vehicle warning lights lit up in the dash, and power to the windows and door locks were lost as well as the keyless entry. I brought the vehicle straight to the metro jeep dealership in johnston, ri. Where it was diagnosed as the front control module . Later i researched on the internet and found that onfebruary 6th 2008 there was a factory recall of 1338 2008 jeep commanders with the same safety issues and returned for repair. I contacted the dealer and the chrysler corporation and informed them of my situation and was told there was nothing that they could do for me. I would very much like my complaint to be issued and for these matters to be investigated promptly.

I had my vehicle towed to southfield chrysler on 3/1/2015., the next day i spoke with a service representative asked nature of problem the vehicle never got looked at until 3-4 days later and was told that the win module " was not responding" that vehicle would start then shut off intermittently. He stated that the problem was "not" part of the recall, and the module itself was bad and that the "switch itself is the part being recalled." when i questioned him on this after i found online that a woman in chicago had experienced the same issue. I was instructed i could contact chrysler assistance line to see if the item was covered under the recall and he would also check with the service managerbut that never happened when i spoke with the service manager he had no knowledge of who i was...after 9 days of the vehicle being in there possession it was repaired and was charged a total of $608.99 not including the cost of rental for the 9 days. Dealer did not offer any type of reimbursement or responsibility.

We purchased a 2008 jeep commander on december 15th 2012 and havehad an issue with the engine stalling. We will be driving and all of the sudden the vehicle engine dies. Its always restarted but we never know when its going to stall out and die. This happened to my wife yesterday and she didn't know how to react. She almost caused an accident when she tried to exit a busy freeway with no power steering. This is a huge safety issue that i think chrysler needs to address before someone gets killed !!!! i read about this issue online and the problem has been with the front control module. Many jeep commander owners have come fourth with the same issue and chrysler just tells us all the same thing. We didn't recall your specific model so there is nothing we can do or will do. I hope someone actually reads this and helps us out !!! please don't let all of these complaints just go to a black hole never to be seen again !!! i know i am not as rich as the chrysler ceos and executives who pay people to keep quite about things like this but my life and the lives of my family do matter !!! p-l-e-a-s-e----h-e-l-p !!!!!

The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Driving at speed on a parkway, the car engine stalled out. Lost all electrical (radio, speedometer, tach, etc.) and was able to pull off to side of the road. Brakes and steering worked, but not ps. Car started back up with turn of ignition. This is the second instance of this happening, first one was about 2 years ago but don't have info. I happened to pay closer attention this time given recent history of ignition recalls.

This 2008 jeep commander 4x4 4.7 liter v8 was just purchased used. The 1st day it stalled at a stop sign. Then stalled at a drive through. The second day the stalling continued including accelerating from a stop sign about 30 mph. Would turn over but not restart at first, but then i discovered that when cycling the key to off and back on again it would restart instantly. The local jeep dealer has verified the issue occurs, but has had it for 3 weeks with no idea of a resolution. They report being in contact with chryslers star technical support... Again no action or resolution. I discovered the prius owner had vehicle in for the same issue with no resolution. It is just like you turn the key off; no power steering, no power brakes. When searching for information in google... It is appears to be a very common issue, but i can find no resolutions myself.
This note, is the third time this has occurred. Other incidents reported back in summer 2014 (reported to nhtsa). On october 16, 2015 at approximately 9:35pm my entire car shut down while driving on a major highway (i-94) in mi while going about 70 mph. All gauges on dashboard when to zero. I was able to pull off to the side of the highway and stop the car. Please note, i had a 5 year old and a 4 year old with me in the car. I let car sit for couple minutes then restarted. Some models of the 2008 jeep commander have been recalled for a faulty ignition switch; however, it appears this model stillhas not been recalled.
Ignition recall....jeep won't start. Have a new starter and battery.when i can get it to finally start the fan stops. Then i get stranded because it won't start again. I see this vehicle has 5 recalls. I bought this jeep from a car lot less than 6 months ago. The lot warranty has expired. So i googled the make and model and find 5 recalls. So far thank god the jeep is stationary when it won't start. But being stranded with a 4 month old baby in the middle of winter....... Yes in angry as hell!

This jeep has two problems. As i was traveling on a highway, the jeep shut itself off. It happened only once, but i am concerned about a repeated issue.report receipt date february 6, 2008, nhtsa campaign number #08v059000.. The second problem i am having which is on recall, is the ignition.once i place the key in the ignition, after parking the jeep, the jeep will go to the off position, but the key can not be removed from the ignition. Report receipt date september 17, 2014, nhtsa campaign number#14v56700.i own a 2008 jeep commander, vin # [xxx].i have made several attempts to remedy the problem by calling chrysler, who did acknowledge the problem, but never got back to me, and i called the dealership where i purchased the jeep, but because my vin number doesn't match the recall list, they refuse to recognize the problem.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I had trouble getting my key out of the ignition and had to move the gear shift back and forth until the key would turn completely off and finally come out. I locked my car and went into my home. I later went out to go to the store. I unlocked my car via keyless entry without difficulty. I put the key in the ignition and it will not turn over. I went and bought batteries for my key fobs thinking that would fix the problem and it did not. My jeep which is my only transportation is stuck in my drive way.
While merging on to the highway the jeep's esp suddenly engaged and cut engine power. The jeep stalled and had to be maneuvered off the highway. This is happening with great regularity, usually while merging on an uphill on-ramp. The dealer looked at the jeep and has not been able to fix the problem. Chrysler was contacted and said they could not help since the warranty was expired. This is a serious safety issue.
My wife is driving the jeep and it just cuts off in the middle of the road and this has been going on now for months... We received a recall notice last year and still waiting for the parts to come in.. It has been over six months and there seems to be know sense of urgency on the part of chrysler. Must someone get killed on the highway because the vehicle shuts off because of the electrical system and chrysler not having the particular parts... I am still paying for this vehicle...

The car started rough while parked in front of the house. It was towed to a repair facility and they srated there was compression in the 4th cylinder and needes further diagnosing. It was then towed to another repair facility, where they stated the pistons were bad and needed engine repairs.
I was driving down the road and the vehicle lost power.i was able to move to the shoulder and bring the vehicle to a stop.there was no power to any system.the ignition switch was in the off position.i was able to restart the vehicle.this is not the first time the vehicle has lost power while driving.
The vehicle stalls out when i stop it.i have to then put it in park and turn the key off and attempt to restart it; usually several times before it will turn back on.thankfully it hasn't happened while driving...yet.since the first occurrence in september of 2012, the problem has become more frequent.it now has 110000 miles on it and i have also done all of the scheduled maintenance and more and nothing seems to help the issue.
Beginning around the week of june 7th, i began experiencing issues with my commander. I would put the key in the ignition and it wouldn't start. The lights, radio etc would come on but the car wouldn't "turn over". After a couple of attempts, it would start. The following week while driving on highway 95 in boston, the car stopped unexpectedly. I was able to make it to the side of the road and was very shaken up. I was able to start the car again and drove home. The following day it happened again while driving and i immediately called the dealership. On june 14th i had the car towed there because i was afraid to drive. I was told that i need a wireless ignition module but there were none available & chrysler was waiting on it from the manufacturer. I was also told that there was a waiting list of approx 1,700 customers waiting for this part and several hundred, like me couldn't drive their car. I escalated to chrysler customer service who have continued to give me the run around and as of today they have no status on the part. I have been paying for a rental car since 6/15. I did some research online and just by typing in the name of the part and found several forums where other jeep owners are experiencing the same issue. I believe that chrysler needs to look into this to see if their is a larger issue or at least make the replacement parts available.

The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander 4x4. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and lost power without warning. The vehicle was taken to jake sweeney chrysler jeep dodge ram (85 w kemper rd, springdale, oh 45246) who was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.
My wife was in the jeep with my 3 children driving approximately 25mph. She said the jeep, which is 4x4 and has the 5.7l hemi engine, died with no warning. She was able to put the vehicle into neutral and restart it.
Engine suddenly stalled while driving on the freeway at 65 mph.no warning lights came on.i was able to get over to the shoulder and restart the car.i took the car to my mechanic today and they can't find anything wrong.i checked online and found that 2008 commanders and grand cherokees were subject to a recall concerning improperly programmed front control modules.according to chrysler my car is not part of the recall, however what happened to my car is exactly the same symptoms as those listed in the recall and supporting information.

Vehicle was traveling at/about 65 mph when the engine unexpectedly shut down.vehicle lost power steering and drifted to the shoulder of the road with limited control and nearly avoiding several vehicles.vehicle remained off for approximately 1 minute and was successfully restarted.
8/27 purchased used vehicle, began drive from md to sc, surging at hwy speed; 8/28 engine died at 65 mph, took many tries to get engine started after; 8/30 engine died while backing up twice; 9/3 engine died at 40 mph; 9/8 engine died while sitting in park; 9/9 engine died while sitting in park; 9/10 took to dealership, no codes found except 8 computer updates needed, ran updates hoping that would solve problem; 9/11 engine stalled at 45 mph in heavy traffic; 9/11 engine stalled when shifting into park to drop off carpool; 9/12 took back to dealership, had throttle body replaced which encases the tps hoping that it was a throttle position censor problem based on research; 9/17 engine died when coming to a stop at stop light, took many tries to get engine started after; 9/18 engine died when turning across traffic in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic.the engine also surges while driving with a feeling that the engine is going to cut off. The rpm needle will indicate this surging with a slight movement. In researching this, it seems to be a persistent problem that comes up on the jeep forums.
There have been two times that the vehicle just would not start after a rain, but when we had it looked at no problems and it has not happened again. The major issue is that while driving home on the toll road all of the sudden the vehicle just lost power and would not go over about 30mph, so i have to try and get across a toll road in rush hour traffic so that i can turn it off and back on. When i did that it came back on fine. This has happened multiple times, but when we called chrysler they told us there was no recall for our vin, but it sounds like the same exact problem that the non 4x4 2008 commander has and that did get a recall. Now the vehicle did it again last night and will not correct itself with a restart, and will not go 30mph. I can't believe that so many of us are having the same exact issue and there is nothing being done about it, i guess someone really does have to be injured or die to get any attention.

My car all of the sudden wouldn't turn on, it said damaged key, the key is fine, it unlocks and locks without a problem, but the car wont start.i've been told is the win
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander 4x4. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact waited a few seconds and was able to restart the vehicle as normal. The failure recurred twice yet the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for the failure. The contact called the manufacturer and was advised that there were no recalls for the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 24,540 and the current mileage was 24,595.
Making a right turn at an intersection and car died in mid-turn. I pulled over and it restarted. I have had a similar incident, i reported it 5/19/08 # 10228160. I took the car in and it was repaired per recall notice. Dealership is not hopeful they will be able to repair the problem until it gets worse!
I have a 2007 jeep commander, and i have had it in to the dealer about 3 or 4 times now over stalling issues. The first time the dealer thought it was an issue with the map sensor, well it stalled out the like 1-2 days later. Then theythough it needed a transmission software update.just the other day my family and i were coming home from my inlaws and it stalled again and this time in the middle of a busy inter section and i was so mad.i finally pushed the truck to the side of the road and could not start it, it took about 1/2 of an hour to start it and holding down the gas peddle. Well off to the dealer again. I got a call the morning of 10/14/2008 and they think its the fuel pump now, come on it has only 14k miles on it and we bought it brand new last november and all of this started happening at the begging of september.i want jeep to take this pc of crap back and stop making the truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Driving on hwy 51 in tulsa. My 2008 jeep commander stalled at 55-60 mph. Coasted to an off ramp, put in park and it restarted. I called the dealershipin broken arrow, ok. The service department told me i have to have a code reading before they can do anything, and because it was the first time it may not produce a code, if so, they could do nothing and good luck. I bought this car new and it has only 2000 miles.
Our 2008 commander has stalled for no reason on two occasions recently.in both instances, we were driving slow, one into a parking spot and one into our garage, and the jeep stalled.the vehicle has been well-maintained and driven responsibly.we are taking it to the shop this week, but this seems to be a common problem with jeep commanders and is likely very difficult to resolve.
1/15 started and drove truck for 20 min. Shut off for 30 min when restarted headlights wipers wiper fluid blinkers cruise control hazards horn dash lights ect would not work. Was forced to drive home in snow storm stopping to wipe windshield with hand.
Vehicle has rolled back 3 times on its own after being started while trans was still in park. Dealer claims there is no problem to be found. Child safety latch on door has failed. Power window repeatedly goes up and down. Instrument panel lights up completely while driving. Four wheel drive system comes on when not needed and stays on. Squeak in right rear suspension. Other work has been done on vehicle that i can document.vehicle has approx. 8,450 miles.
Used power liftgate to open and put groceries in back of 2008 jeep commander.liftgate failed and slammed down on my back.now, when activating the power liftgate, it goes up half way and slams shut.
Vehicle was traveling at/about 65 mph when the engine unexpectedly shut down.vehicle lost power steering and drifted to the shoulder of the road with limited control and nearly avoiding several vehicles.vehicle remained off for approximately 1 minute and was successfully restarted.
After application of the n23 software flash, 4wd low is no longer available. When attempting to shift in 4wd low, the only reactions is a service 4wd message. The dealership nor chrysler/jeep will assume responsibility for breaking the final drive and want to charge exorbitant fees for troubleshooting.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander 4x4. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle failed to shift gears. The service four wheel drive indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transfer cable needed to be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure recurred, but was not remedied. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
I had jeep recall n23 performed on my jeep commander 2008 4x4. After the recall was performed my 4wd system no longer works and flashes the warning "service 4wd system". This is very frustrating and i had no problems until jeep performed the recall on my vehicle.
Left car on but in "park" as we pumped gas. About a minute into pumping gas, the car lunged forward a few inches then came to a stop automatically.
After have recall n23 applied, 4wd system failed to engage.dealer charged me and replaced transfer case actuator.4wd system failed a month later, dealer states vehicle needs another transfer case actuator.seems like this recall caused damage to system.
I purchased a new 2008 jeep commander (w/approxi. 50 mi) from sansone's route 1 auto mall on 6/11/09.within 48 hrs of purchasing the vehicle (at 150 mi) the shift gear and transmission malfunctioned.on 6/13/09 i drove the vehicle to jersey city, nj.after reaching my destination, i put the vehicle in park to unload.when i finished, i could not shift the vehicle out of park without engaging the shift lock manual override (as described in the owner's manual).during this time the malfunction indicator light was on and the electronic vehicle info center displayed 'service park assist system'.i called the dealership to alert them of the problem and i was asked to take the vehicle to the dealership to be serviced.on the way to avenel from jersey city, the vehicle drove without issue for approximately 5 miles.however, after proceeding through an intersection and stopping for a red light, the vehicle began to jerk and with the pedal pressed to the floor, it would only accelerate to 30 mph.i drove at this speed on route 1 from jersey city to newark airport when the engine suddenly opened up and the vehicle shot off at a high speed.thankfully, no one was directly in front of the vehicle at the time and i was able to drive at approximately 50 mph from newark airport to the sansone dealership in avenel.during the entire trip the malfunction indicator light remained on.the vehicle was serviced at sansone's service center and i was told by the dealership that the issue was a faulty 'prndl' wire that needed to be replaced.the part was ordered and installed and on 6/16/09 i was told that the wire was replaced resolving both issues'the locked shift gear and inability to accelerate.i picked up the vehicle tuesday night.four days later i had the same exact issue with the vehicle.my father has owned jeep products for over 15 yrs and has never experienced performance issues of this magnitude.it is obvious that this vehicle is defective and beyond repair.
My car all of the sudden wouldn't turn on, it said damaged key, the key is fine, it unlocks and locks without a problem, but the car wont start.i've been told is the win
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander 4x4. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 13v175000(electrical system, power train) and 14v567000 (electrical system); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
I recently had an issue where after driving my vehicle, going into a bank and returning to start my car, the vehicle did not start. I tried repeatedly to start the vehicle but nothing worked. Finally it started again at an auto shop and then turned off and we tried to start it again, but it would not start. The battery was tested as well as the starter. There were no issues with either or the components associated with starting the vehicle. However, after my independent mechanic starting searching for recalls he noticed there was a recall on the front control module and said to call chrysler. I called and only 1338 vehicles were "qualified" for this part recall. My vehicle is not part of that recall but the issue at hand is the culprit of a defective front control module. Recall id # 71686 - visibility:windshield wiper/washersummary:chrysler is recalling 1,338 my 2008 jeep grand cherokee and commander vehicles. The front control module may have been incorrectly manufactured.consequences:this could cause the engine to stall while driving or not to start and/or cause the windshield wipers to become inoperative. Engine stalling or inoperative wipers could cause a crash without warning.
Going to strap the grand child in the back seat the seat belts lock up coming out before fully pulled out. This has happened several times. Even has happened to me a few times on front drivers seat. Today strapping the grand child in it lock while she was seat belted in. We went to undo the seat belt and it would not give ant slack to undo belt.we had to slid her out of the seat belt in order to get her out. One time before she started screaming while we were driving because the seat beat had gotten extremely tight on her. I had a hard time getting her out. She has become scared of the seat belts. I,m getting worried myself.
3rd row driver's side seatbelt has broken twice since we purchased jeep commander in may.dealer replaced broken seatbelt in december 2008 and it broke again february 2009.the first timewhen we arrived at our destination our son was stuck and couldn't get out. The seatbelt wouldn't release.the second time hard to fasten seatbelt.the seatbelt wouldn't latch.we are not using that seat belt till it is fixed.we are family of 7 so we use all 7 seatbelts.the consequence would be one of our children being seriously injured due to seatbelt failure.
The third row seat is stuck in the up position eliminating 50% of my view. The third row seat is never used by me and is now not functioning at all and stuck in the up position due to a factory defect.
Cracked windshield -- my wife's 2008 jeep commander has experienced three chips in the windshield; one was repaired, one developed into a crack and the third has remained a "star." in addition, a crack developed below the one cause by a pebble.we have also experienced rust stains on the third row seats where the seat fold-down hinges are rusting through the leather seat coverings.
I was cleaning my vehicle and moved the rear passenger seat to a folded position to access the third row seat. I heard a pop and the seat would no longer stay in an upright positon. If the seat is placed upright it swings back down. Took to dealership and they told me the frame on the second row was not working correctly they gave me a quote of $356.85 for the part and $100.00 per hour labor lasting from 5-6hours. I was also charged $109.78 for a diagnostic. I would like to have the seat fixed as soon as possible this is my families sole means of transportation. I have small children that require safety seats in that place.
I bought my 2008 jeep commander 4x4 with v8 4.7l, quadra track ii on 8/1/2013. Atp i was told there was a recall on ______________. I service appointment was made and the care was repaired. I soon called the repair shop back and complained of the airbag light being on intermittently, 4x4 service light and parking and brake lights also working intermittently. I was told that these issues were not park of the recall they repaired and to call the dealer i bought the car from. I called automation and was told that my complaints were not in the recall and or under a warranty with them and to pay for a service appointment. I could not afford the services so no go. I still have these issues off and on and just got a service repair recall notice in 9/2010. Like all the others i'm still risking everything each time i drive the only car we own as a family and an waiting for chrysler to make the part available and pray i don't hurt myself my family or another driver, if the system decides to completely fail. Come on get your [xxx] together we need parts and a fix asap!!!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v567000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact sated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander 4x4. When it rained, water entered the floor panel of the vehicle and caused the amplifier to fail without warning. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who stated that the sun roof tubes needed to be cleared. The vehicle was serviced, but the remedy failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
The contact owns a 2008 jeep commander 4x4. The contact stated that the third row rear seat in the vehicle had became inoperable and unable to close causing the driver to be unable to view out of the rear window. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the mechanism that controls the seats needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

My 2008 jeep commander started give problems by not starting, changed the starter once, it work for a few months and then started again, changed the started twice withing 6 months and still gives problems, whats wrong with this car, i cant rely on this vehicle because it leaves me every where.
My car all of the sudden wouldn't turn on, it said damaged key, the key is fine, it unlocks and locks without a problem, but the car wont start.i've been told is the win
On saturday august 6, 2011 while driving at 65 mph the electronic throttle control system malfunctioned and the vehicle would not slow down for 1.5 miles. The cruise control was not in use and the floor mat was in a normal position. The etc warning was on during this malfuction but went off when the vehiclewas stopped. During this episode the brakes and lower gears were used to slow down while the rpm was running very high.
As you speed up from a stand still the throttle control indicator forces the car to slow down.have to pull over to side of the road and turn off the car.start the car back on and slowly excel, sometimes the throttle will act up again, and have to turn off car again.and today thetraction indicator turned on while driving and asthe car slowed down the throttle control forced my husband to pull over and turn off the car.it seems to act up when the weather gets warmer.took the car to the dealer last year and the gas pedal was replaced and they assured that the problem was fixed.but the car is acting up again.i am pretty sure i am not the only one that is experiencing these kind problems with the jeep commander.
I was driving down the road and the vehicle lost power.i was able to move to the shoulder and bring the vehicle to a stop.there was no power to any system.the ignition switch was in the off position.i was able to restart the vehicle.this is not the first time the vehicle has lost power while driving.

Windshield of 2008 jeep commander has cracked twice in less than the first 1,000 miles.both times were very small and slow rocks that would never do any damage to any other windshield i have ever owned.this is an epidemic!i am concerned that this could lead to a future safety issue!
