The clockspring in my 2000 jeep cherokee failed. As a result of this i lost all functions in the steering wheel. Including a operable airbag and horn.

The contact owns a 2000 jeep cherokee. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator was consistently illuminated. The failure recurred each time the vehicle was started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers:(air bags) and 15v046000 (air bags) however, the parts needed to do the repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

Airbag warning light and chime goes off constantly.

Engine leakbad seat and brake light i need some help please replacerearwipe,

I have a 2000 jeep cherokee sport and the airbag light stays on now. I took it to the dealer and they say i need to pay for a 300.00 clock spring part to fix it. I checked the computer and seen numerous problems with the jeep airbags not working. Has there been a recall on them? and if not if there's been so many cases of problems with them not working correctly is there anything being done to protect the consumer? thank you

2000 jeep cherokee clock spring assembly has failed. Air bag and horn will not work. Chrysler state cost to repair $249 +.

Air bag warning light is staying on all the time. I'm concerned the airbags will go off unnecessarily or will not work when they are needed to. This warning light has been on for a long time. I'm just not sure of the date i first noticed it.

2000 jeep cherokee sportairbag warning light illuminates randomly and repeatedly. Not related to actual airbag deployment. It may render airbag unusable. Dangerous condition. Common consumer complaint. All passenger window actuator switches are unusable. Windows will only work at driver panel. Safety issue if passengers have to open windows.very common consumer complaint.obd error codes are inaccurate (especially when applying to emission control systems p0441, p0442). Diagnosis often lead to unneeded repairs and costly replacement of sensors and computer without cause. Common consumer complaint.driver seat support structure breaks. Even when driven only in ordinary driving conditions and not stressed unusually. Must be rewelded or replaced. Seat is no longer structurally safe. Common consumer complaintall of these are design issues and not service/maintenance related.

Airbag light stays on and horn doesn't work.

On july 26, my son had a front impact wreck in his 2000 jeep cherokee sport that totaled the car, however neither the driver's side airbag, not the passenger's side airbag deployed.as a result of this crash, my son, who was driving hit his head on the steering wheel and required 11 stiches and my other son, who was the passenger in the car sustained a head injury requiring 8 sticthes as well as numerous impact bruises.injuries were minimized because both sons were wearing their seatbelts.

Cruise control,horn not working,airbag light on.defective clockspring???

Brake light started coming on intermittently, but is now on constantly. Once in a great while it will not light up when starting the car, but most of the time it comes on when starting the car and stays on continuously.

Air bag light on (don't know if it will work if needed), horn won't work, cruise control wont work = clockspring. Safety issue. No horn no airbag.

Air bag light started to come on and off intermittently.on the second day it came on and stayed on.on the second day i also noticed no horn and no cruise control.all indications are that it is the clock spring.emailed chrysler to see if it was a recall or safety covered item.they stated no that the entire cost to replace it will be mine $300 plus dollars.from my understanding chrysler is having problems with a lot of clock springs.i feel they should cover this item as it is not an item that should fail that easily.

Air bags didn't deploy during an accident.*ml

While traveling45-50 mph hit slush onshoulder, slid into an ice embankment, proceeded into a ditch, and came to rest after hitting a stone wall.upon impact, neither air bag deployed. Driver wasonly one in vehicle and was wearing seat belt.

Car was in a chain reaction accident. I was hit from behind and pushed into the car in front of me. My car was a total lose as was the car i was pushed into. The air bags did not inflate.

Consumer was involved in a high speed frontal collision in whichdriver's/ passenger's air bags did not deploy.also, abs brakes locked up,causing extended stopping distance. Please give any further details.

Upon impact, the driver's sideand passenger side air bags did not deploy. A police report and insurance reports were taken. Both thecontact's daughterand the passenger were seriously injured.

While driving about 68mph on an interstate, tapped brakes to cancel cruise control, right front tire locked causing me to lose control on the vehicel hit guardrail head on at about 55mph.airbags did not deploy.took vehicel into one dealership 4 times, said nothing was wrong, took it to another once did not find front problem but replaced my whole rear end.

My daughter hydroplaned and hit a very large rock ( about 3 feet in diameter) going approximately 30 miles an hour.neither of the airbags deployed.

My daughter was driving the car approximately30 miles an hour around a bend.she hydroplaned and hit a boulder about 3 foot in diameter head on, causing extensive damage to front, bumper and undercarriage.the airbags did not deploy.*nlm

While driving 30-40 mph had a frontal impact inwhich this vehicle t-boned another vehicle, anddriver's/ passenger's airbags did not deploy, which did not protect the occupants.jeep dealerwas not willing to help.

Tl *- the contactownsa 2000 jeep cherokee.the contact stated that he maderepairs tothe vehicle and then he received a safety recall.the contact sent the manufacturer the required information and was denied the reimbursement.

Fire started in left rear quarter of vehicle. It was caused by wiring to rear defogger, lights & rear wiper harness. Damage to wiring, trim panels melted, head liner damage, outer body paint blistered above fuel filler door. It was just luck that it was snowing so i used the snow to put out the fire.estimated damage to vehicle by insurance co. Was $2961.00.

Low oil pressure: i change my oil as specified in manual.now all of a sudden i have a drop in oil pressure.when driving the jeep my oil pressure is now at no more than 25psi and it drops to zero when idle.on my last oil change i had the engine checked and there were no cracks and no misfire.i had a tune up done on the vehicle in sept 2008.engine and everything was running fine. As for that day i have to get the jeep to mechanic to take a look.this past summer the jeep also would over heat in 90 degree weather and it mostly happened when the ac was turned on. Took it mechanic and couldn't find anything wrongwe replaced the thermostat with a lower temp and seemed to fix the problem.then about 2 days later the jeep started tooverheat again.replaced the relay as it tested bad.while replacing the relay the fan broke.the blades completely separated from the fan motor in a whole piece.replaced fan. Never thought i had any coolant leaks and never found any but the coolant will not stay in the reservoir.it just disappears.i had the engine inspected again and no cracks and the oil appeared to be fine.there are thousands of complaints for this what is going to be done? anything?it's not like i can afford anew car or thousands in parts and labor.also have other issues i well 1st another complaint for the electrical issues.

-the contact was driving60 mph when the vehicle lost power. The contact was able to get the vehicle restarted about 30 seconds after the incident.the vehicle failed three additional times beforethe contact could get the vehicle to the dealer.there were no warning signs.the diagnosis from the dealer was a short in the vehicle's computer.

2000 jeep cherokee engine stopped without warning.***no answer required***. *mr there was a hole in the piston. After the dealer inspected the vehicle, they stated there was not enough coolant in the system which caused the front frost plug heater to come out and that the no 1 and 2 piston melted down.the consumer had to replace the engine with only 42,000 miles on the vehicle.the rotors were replaced twice.the rubber around all four doors shrunk to the point that wind and water would come through.periodically, when the vehicle was locked the headlights and taillights would come on and go off for a few minutes.the chrome on the wheels was corroded and coming off. The front passenger electric lockwas making a strange noise when the doors were lock or unlocked.

Started the car and pulled away and when the door automatically locked the driver side back door buzzed loud and in a 3 week period there are 3 out of four doors that buzz loud when locked.

Door and windshield wont work properly. Dealer stated the need to replace the electrical harness. Vehicle's warrantyexpired.

I bought this truck used from a private owner in march of 15, check engine light was on was told it was on because they changed the gas cap on it in june of 15 i was at a store parked went into the store came back out truck wouldn't start no lights nothing jumping didn't do anything had to tow it home, then tow it to the repair shop where they said it was the starter and we placed that ( $394.93) truck ran fine for about 2 weeks same thing, going to tow it the repair shop again next week

I have a 2000 jeep cherokee, that whenever it hits a bump on the road, the gauges start to die. First the airbag light , then the engine light come on. After that the odometer dies, so i have no idea how fast i am going. Sometimes all the gauges fail. When i hit another bump on the road everything goes back to normal. I tried to have this fixed, but unfortunately this is a common problem for jeep and chrysler, my mechanic looked there is nothing wrong with the dash. It is somewhere in the cables, usually it takes chrysler a couple of days(he told me from his experience, from his other customers) and they can't guarantee that they even find the faulty wire. And even after they "find the problem" most likely it will come back.

Head lamp electrical wires coming in contact with the sharp edge of the magnesium brake pedal and steering column support.causing the wire to arc and overheat which caused the wire insulation to melt and flash into flame.cause of fire was lack of proper insulation of the wires and their routing which contacted the edge of the magnesium brake pedal and steering column support.

The headlight dimmer switch over heated/melted the bezel support and connector.

I believer the electrical problems i have experienced with my jeep cherokee sport 2000 4.0l v6 has the potential to be come a threat if such wires should create a fire of some sort... For years the only way to operate the windows on the vehicle is by drivers side controls, the passenger cannot operate the window with their control.strange thing, is if on the divers side you hit the automatic door lock switch back and fourth the passenger can gain control of the window operation ie up/down, only on a temporary basis.the time frame of passenger operation is very short...the other issue is the door locks, the lights go on and off when using the fob to lock and unlock, and sometimes the locks work and you hear the click of them locking.other times the lights will flash but the door locks will not operate at all, and if your sitting in the jeep and hit the locks you can hear a click but not in the doors but in the headliner just about where the dome light is... I feel all of these electrical issues are concerning, and should be something jeep corp should take seriously.....problems in electrical system could be a potential fire hazard....

Airbag light stays on and horn doesn't work.

At 7200 miles the engine check light went on flashing.this happened 2 more time over last winter. Each time the spark plugs are fouled and replaced, the computer reports misfiring in the engine.then in july my car went on fire after driving 6 miles to the store.i parked my car went into the store only to be called out 5 min later that my car was on fire.the fire department had to break into the car because the hood release was burnt. Chrysler said it was a rodent that chewed the fuel injector harness.now i'm out my insurance deductible and additional rental car charges.then 2/1/02 after driving to work 7 mile my car again went on fire after parking.this time my boyfriend heard a crackling sound and saw smoke when he stopped and pulled the hood release, saw flames and throw snow on it to put it out.it's still in the dealing waiting to see what chrysler has to say now.

Defective spark plug#5 andignition coil malfunctioned, causing vehicle to idle high and spontaneous.

(1.) at 245 miles enginechecklight went on. Dealer replaced #5 spark plug and coil ignition system to correct. Four days later the same light went on. Also at 400 miles, 6/3/2000 estrong smell of gasoline in passenger compartment during cold starts.

With the key in the off position, the engine continues to run.this is the third occurrence.i will list the date of first occurrence.

While traveling at 40-45 mph vehicle commenced to vibrate/shook, followed by engine check light coming on, and then vehicle lost power. Dealer notified, and had vehicle towed into shop. Informed consumer that the electronic control module had failed and needs replacement. Provide further details.

Engine check engine lite came on at around 600 miles, was knocked off by the service manager. Went on again at 934 miles and spark plugs were replaced. Went on again and was flashing. Service dept. Can not seem to pin point problem. A idle part is being ordered. They seem to think it is idling to slow. I am afraid more problems will be caused by this hit and miss method. Is it a problem to have the lite keep coming on?

Last aug (2002) my ignition switch locked up (would not turn with key inserted).this started out only occurring occasionally.after about 2 weeks it locked up completely and i had a mechanic disassemble the system so i could drive it to the jeep warranty garage in seoul south korea.they replaced the inner ignition switch barrel.the ignition switch worked fine until this year (aug 2003) when the exact same thing happened.now i'm working with another jeep dealership in icheon south korea, trying to get this thing repaired so as not to re-occur.my 3 year warranty ran out 3 weeks after the second malfunction and since this is a recurring problem, i feel that the manufacture should supply an entire new ignition switch and associated components to completely rebuild the inner barrel, outer case that holds the barrel, switches and locks for anti-theft components and any other linked hardware.i purchased this vehicle in virginia and was subsequently stationed in korea and shipped the vehicle here at that time.

After driving vehicle there is a burning smell coming from under the hood, smells like tar. Odor not noticable inside vehicle. Vehicle taken to dealer 3 times, cannot find a problem.

Insured stated that the fire started by sparks in the wiring under the hood and spread to passenger compartment. Claim number 38-j818-276.

Vehicle had been parked for about 3 minutes and smoke started coming from hood. This was due to the wiring under the hood catching on fire. Dealer stated wiring needed to be replaced.the fire had caused major damage to the vehicle and the consumers insurance paid for the repairs. After a week the vehicle had a loose bearing and was replaced.

The 2000 jeep cherokee does not provide any diagram for the fuse panel or a means to determine which fuse or relay protects a particular circuit.the owner's manual refers to a chart on or near the panel, and the access door to the panel contains an imprint refering to the owner's manual.several safety related systems are routed through the fuse panel.

Manufacturer's omission of critical information from owners' manual and vehicle components.use circuit labels do not exist for the fuse panel located in the passenger compartment of this vehicle.the owners manual states that one should refer to the fuse panel cover.the fuse panel cover, however, states that one should refer to the owners manual.in an emergency situation (e.g. Remote breakdown or failure of lighting circuit, wipers, etc.) it would be very difficult to diagnose.each fuse would have to be removed and a spare reinserted to verify whether or not each is functional.failure has not yet been corrected despite contacting the manufacturer and dealer.

Engine leakbad seat and brake light i need some help please replacerearwipe,

Temperature gauge showed increase past normal operating temperature and into red-marked range. After letting engine cool and shutting it off, coolant reservoir was empty. Refilled coolant and drove until it began overheating again, and coolant reservoir was again empty. No signs of coolant on the outside of the engine, none leaking out below. Suspect cracked head and coolant leaking into the engine.

I love my jeep. However, i have the same problem many owners of the 2000 cherokee with the 4.0 have. I have a cracked cylinder head. No oil in coolant, or vice versa, buit jeep is parked and will not move until it is either sold or scrapped. Body is in good condition and everything works on the jeep. I have rod knock on start up, and as the engine warms, oil pressure drops to zero. Revving engine to 2000 rpm raises oil pressure. The jeep has 181,000 miles. I have heard from many people that the cylinder head cracking is very common in jeeps for 2 model years, yet jeep has gotten away with a recall somehow. I am not happy. I bought the jeep used and only drove it a month before the knocking started. The lady i bought it from did oil changes every 2 months, and took it in for service when ever something went wrong

As with many other xj owners, my cylinder head is cracked due to the defective 0331 head.i bought the jeep about 3 years ago, and about a year ago coolant started leaking into the oil.i talked with several mechanic friends and the head fleet mechanic at work told me the cracked head is extremely common.i was stranded on the side of the road, had to have the vehicle towed, and it sits as a giant paperweight in my garage as i cannot afford a new engine. I bought the vehicle with 122000 miles and have never taken it off road, modified it, or traveled more than 60 miles in a day.it has never overheated until the head cracked.now i am looking at an enormous bill that my family cannot afford.i fail to see how so many vehicles can be affected and there is still no recall.

Crack cylinder head .when driving start to overheat.when check on it i found the problem and i researched and found this is a problem with the cylinder head for jeep years 2000,2001,2002.they say those years the iron ore was very expensive on the world market.

Takata recall i own a 2000 jeep cherokee inline 6 and since i got it it has had a lot of problems with the head and blowing the gaskets i called the dealership to see if there was any recalls and there wasn't any. The lady that was working asked me what was going on and i told her and she said that my year jeep should've had a recall for it because a lot of people have had the same problem. This is really the only problem i have with my jeep and everyone i talk to that has a jeep like mine and the same year have the same problem. This will be the second head gaskets in 4 years i will be putting on new head gaskets. I can't afford a new head for it and i've been told that the heads were bad on my year of jeep. It also came with dexron antifreeze that after a while gooks up in the radiator and looks like mud

The contact owns a 2000 jeep cherokee. While driving at 25 mph, the temperature gauge indicated that the vehicle was overheating. The contact waited until the temperature gauge read normal and the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the shield intake manifold and the shield exhaust manifold needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 181,889.

We just bought the car 2 months ago.when we get to a speed of 60 or over if we hit a bump in the road it starts to shake.we have to come to a complete stop before it will quite.it happened 4 times in a matter of 15 miles.we took it to a repair shop and they said there was nothing they can do to help us.that it happens with all jeeps.we took it to two other shops and they could not help us. The person we bought it from only had it a year.he told us there was no problem. We do not believe him. But now what do we do.?i believe that is why there was such low mileage on the car. What does jeep say? it scares us too death before we can pull it over to the side of the busy highway. Who do we turn too?

The contact owns a 2000 jeep cherokee. While attempting to start the vehicle, a loud ticking noise emerged from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the engine failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 173,000.

How can i find out if the recalls on my jeep cherokee grand laredo 2000 have been taken care of. I bought it used from a car dealer in 2012. I am unable to get any results from the dealer.thank you.

Driving on the highway at 60mph and jeep starts to overheat. Had mechanic check it out couldn't find a problem. Replaced radiator, thermostat, coolant system flush, and new antifreeze replaced. That seemed to fix the problem but then i would have to keep refilling antifreeze but it was not leaking any this went on for about a year then i noticed brown gunk in the overflow container and had a mechanic check it out and he said that was due to the antifreeze mixing with oil most likely caused by a cracked cylinder head. After some research i found it was extremely common that the 2000 jeep cherokees would crack their cylinder heads between the 3 and 4 heads. Very annoying to diagnose and fix.

The fan that cools engine that chrysler installed in the factory had little cracks that eventually broke fan blade and was causing the vehicle to overheat. Fan needed to be replaced at $500.00 because of inferior plastic fan that they put in the vehicle at factory.

Bought vehicle new and performed regular maintenance.had to replace brake rotors at 62,000.at 78,000 miles engine overheated; verified fan, radiator, and water pump in working order and replaced thermostat and temperature sensor.engine continued to overheat with unexplained coolant loss.no leakage and clean oil.replaced head gasket anyway and noticed no cracks in head.still runs hot and loses coolant somehow.at 80,000 miles engine developed miss after replacing coil and checking fuel and firing systems removed head again and pulled lifters.bottom of one lifter was ground off resulting in some wear of cam lobe.replaced lifters and valve springs.fixed engine miss.at 82,000 miles oil gauge showed 80 pounds of oil pressure until engine totally warm then dropped to 40 lbs.also showed 40 lbs when keyed moved to on position with engine not running.replaced oil pressure sending unit.now engine runs 40-45 lbs when cold and drops to 10 lbs when running after totally warm.when stopping at lights after driving with warm engine, oil pressure drops to 0 and check gauges light comes on.purchased a high volume oil pump and will see if this corrects that problem.this is totally unacceptable for a vehicle with 83,000 miles that was purchased new and well maintained.furthermore when checking with other owners these problems and more seem to be common for this year/model.

The contact owns a 2000 jeep cherokee.while driving approximately 60 mph, the contact heard a loud shuttering noise coming from the vehicle.thirty minutes later, the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel.he took the vehicle to a dealer and a representative stated that the coil burned and the engine had excessive carbon.the engine was cleaned out and the coil was repaired.immediately after the repair was made, the vehicle failed.he took the vehicle back to the dealer and they stated that the cylinder cracked from excessive heating.the vehicle is currently being repaired.the manufacturer did not provide any assistance.the failure mileage was 74,000.

I have had engine overheating problems on my 2000 jeep cherokee, door actuators going bad, and also oil pressure gauge going to zero, and also loosing anti freeze.i have replaced the head once for the coolant loss and didn't do any good, i've had the thermostat switched for overheating and also the radiator fan , no help.

'check gauges' light comes on multiple times, temperature gauge to redline for a few minutes, then back to normal.brought in to be checked/fixed 5 times, 'no leak', 'no problem detected', 'radiator hose loose', 'added coolant' until this last time: 'cracked head'; also oil gauge recently shows no pressure with great frequency, as with temperature gauge.i had been adding coolant every few weeks.i believe this problem could seize the engine while vehicle is in motion.

Engine was knocking, check engine light came on, diagonistic test showed 6th cylinder was misfiring lifter was damaged.the camshaft was replaced as well as the lifters and headgasket. I do not understand how a 2000 vehicle with only 81000 kms needs $2000.00 worth of repairs done. The dealer also advised me that he can't understand how this is required either.he advised me to call 1-800- 465-2001to voice my complaint.he also gave me the old part to send back to chrysler.the 1-800 # i called advised me that they will put my inforamtion in my file, but they could not do anything else for me nor did they want the part. I would like feed back on this complaint as i am not happy with my experiences with chrysler thus far.are the parts they are using to build these vehicles not up to par? ????

Replaced cracked cylinder head on 2000 4.0l jeep cherokee, at 97,358 miles. Had been losing coolant since approx. 70,000 mi. But, no one could find a leak. Vehicle began to vibrate violently followed by a loud bang. There was smoke coming from the engine compartment. After shutting down the engine i found the plastic fan blades from the electric cooling fan had broken apart and were jammed into the fan pulley. I understand that there is a recall for the 2000 grand cherokee model for the same problem. Why is it limited to that model when evidently it is happening to other 2000 model jeeps such as mine a 2000 jeep cherokee classic. The recall for the other model is virtually the same problem that i have experienced. Why the limit ?

I am the owner of a 2000 jeep cherokee classic with a 4.l 6cylinder engine. I am the second owner of this jeep with 102,000 miles.all services always done on time, oil, brakes, flushes, fluids, ect. My oil pressure dropped one day while driving and my antifreeze started disappearing. I went to have the car looked at by a repair shop they told me the cylinder head between the 3rd and the 4th cylinder had a crack in it. I was also told it is a known problem by jeep and it was due to defective machines that made the cylinder heads. I looked online and found over 10,234 blogs about this problem. So i went to ajeep dealer thinking it should be a recall or defective part recall and jeep is saying there is nothing they can do about it it will cost me 3200.00 dollars. I feel this many defective parts all with ( exact )same problem should be a major concern.

Loosing coolant very rapid. (filled every 2 days)vehicle stated to loose heat. Coolant was entering the oil.cracked head gasket was replaced at $1300.00was advise head gasket was made at the manufacturer to thin and this caused the crack, and this is a common concern.

Tl- caller owns a 2000 jeep cherokee. Current mileage is 71000. Failure mileage is 68000. While driving 40mph caller noticed temeperature gauge and pulled over and tried to correct the problem by adding coolant to radiator. Vehicle cooled off and he put a new head on the engine a week later. The vehicle is still running hot. Ktfthe consumer stated the exhaust header is too close to the engine block oil pan causing overheating. Updated 06/08/07.

Bought car used w/49,000mi. As soon as i got it on the road, i noticed the "check gauges" light illuminated at a warm idle, only to find my oil pressure guage pegged at 0 psi. Did research on the web and apparently the "0331 cast" breed of cylinder heads that dc used in 2000-2001 xj's are noted for cracking after an overheat. Sure enough the vehicle had a crack in the cylinder head, which caused coolant to mix into the engine oil. Consequently, my main, rod and camshaft bearings, as well as the cylinder head itself had to be replaced.long story short, there are several complaints out there exactly like this one, do research before you buy any cherokee from this era using the 0331 heads. Unfortunately, dc never stepped up to the plate and offered a recall. Caveat emptor!

Freeze plugs failed in my 2000 jeep cherokee sport, causing the engine coolant to leak, and making vehicle inoperative. Cost of repairs totaled $1125.33.

I purchased my 2000 jeep cherokee from lehmers jeep in concord, california in the spring of 2000.ive had all the servicing done there as suggested.i take care of my car and drive it gently.in august of this year, during the week prior to my scheduled 60,000 mile servicing the car overheated twice.i immediately pulled over and let the car cool off.when the car was serviced the block was cracked, the water pump had malfunctioned.the service department replaced the block and told me that it was replaced with an improved block as the original one was known to crack easily.the bill for service and replacing the cracked block was $3364.19.i believe that i should be reimbursed for the cost of replacing the block.it was known to be defective.i have had all my servicing done at lehmers jeep per their schedule.i requested reimbursement from the daimler chrysler customer assistance center but was refused.

Consumerstated that enginecheck light came on periodically.

My vehicle has been losing coolant for quite some time.it has relatively low mileage to have head problems, but i now have coolant in my oil.i have done some research and found that daimler-chrysler used 0331 cast heads on this model cherokee (2000 w/ 4.0l engine).it turns out that these heads were a poor cast allowing cracks to form near the #3 cylinder area allowing coolant to flow into the oil.this results in a drop in oil pressure and eventually bearing and engine failure.i consider myself somewhat lucky that i discovered this problem before the engine seized up on me, however i am now looking at over $1000 in repairs that should not be necessary for a vehicle with just over 50k miles.i am very disappointed since i believed jeeps to be reliably built vehicles.i sincerely hope that someone from daimler-chrysler will read this and rectify the situation before the engine failure leads to an accident or death.

On december 17th of 2003, i brought my 200 jeep cherokee in for service at a local auto shop.he discovered through a diagnostic check that the engine was skipping on # 3 and # 5 cylinder.they replaced the engine coil pack and spark plugs.the vehicle at that time had 89,941 miles on it.on january 31st of 2006, that same jeep was brought to the shop again with a skip in the engine.it was also determined through a diagnostic machine that the same problem was occurring.this time the engine had 126,350 miles on it.that is less than 40k miles in 25 months.i am not sure what the warranty is on this unit, but it would be greatly appreciated if someone could look into this manner.i have spent almost $600 in 2 years for the same problem.there must be some sort of an issue.please let me know.

1. Vehicle overheating and very low oil pressure2. Found cracked cylinder head between cylinders 3 and 4 causing coolant to enter crankcase and contaminate oil. Thus ruining engine bearings. 3. Replacement of cylinder head with earlier model design and new bearings in engine.

I had several trips to the dealership with thejeep.i purchased the jeep onjuly 26, 2000new.i tookexcellent care of the vehicle, have it checked and oil changed every 2500 miles.before thethree year warranty was up i had a total of 15,000 miles on it.i complained of it shimmying and grinding sound in the back, but they said they couldn't find a thing wrong.in february having about $18,000 miles on it that i needed a new fuel pump - $900.00 worth.since then it has been down hill.i have complained since day one that my vehicle shimmies out of control intermittently, and no one could find anything wrong, just put new control arms and bushings on it and, steering pinion, tight steering, and a host of other such remedies, to no avail.this past weekend, i was almost in a very serious accident on highway 94, as i did go out of town, after the above was fixed, but apparently it didn't help as my vehicle shook almost out of control again. I put on my breaks immediately and had to go to the side of the road.i stopped, sat for a while, and then drove off, and it was okay for a while, but in the meantime, a driver from behind almost hit me when i had to put my breaks on to try to control it some. I am very frustrated with this vehicle and feel it should have been called back when i first complained years ago.i wrote daimler chrysler a letter regarding the fuel pump a few years ago, but the company didn't even respond.in the meantime, i really don't know what to do,i want to trade it in, but feel i was sold a real lemon and should be compensated for the hassles, repair costs, etc. Of what i was hoping would not happen when buying a new vehicle, and the way i take care of it.i cannot afford to buy another brand new one, but do feel the company should have called this vehicle back from the onset, as it has been a lemon, of which i have expressed many times to the dealership where i purchased it.

Been having problems with the emissions and gas cap replaced 5 times and still having problems and they told me it would cost me $500 to replace the evap canister, evap cap replaced, evap system components fuel tank leak and leak detection pump may be damaged....i need this truck to getback and forth from work....

Hood latches, all three of them, failed and hood flew up while we were traveling at 60 mph.no crash but one injury and over a thousand dollars to repair the damage to the vehicle.the rear view mirror came off and landed in the back seat.the hood was destroyed as were the three panels where the wipers are located and the support bracket below them.the hinges were hyperextended and had to be replaced.after some investigation i found several reports of similar incidents with this vehicle and others where the same latch assembly was used.five people could have been killed and i am outraged that i was never warned about this obviously defective latch system.

Started the car and pulled away and when the door automatically locked the driver side back door buzzed loud and in a 3 week period there are 3 out of four doors that buzz loud when locked.

The contact owns a 2000 jeep cherokee.the contact was outside of the vehicle and attempted to open the rear passenger side door, but was unsuccessful.she had to unlock the door from the passenger compartment.the failure occurred previously with the front passenger side door.the contact spoke with the manufacturer and they stated it was not a safety issue.the current mileage was 110,523 and failure mileage was 105,000.

Vehicle was going 50-55mph when hood flew back into windshield. Release rod broke, and the outer clamps failed, causing secondary hood latch to release as well. Dealer and manufacturer were notified.

2000 jeep cherokee was idling with the engine running in park, no emergency brake on.exited the vehicle and got a few items from the rear seating, then entered the rear hatch area to get a few more items out.walking away from the vehicle about 20 yards when i turned around the vehicle was gone.it ended up across the street in an embankment.when i opened the drivers door, the vehicle was not in drive.no one was in the vehicle at the time, minor damage to the front of the jeep.

On my wife's 2000 right hand drive jeep cherokee after 120,000 miles the check engine light came on, the obd ii code read a transmission problem after trying to fix the problem i took it into the dealer where the car was purchased. They informed me that it would need a new transmission, they do not work on the aw4 transmissions, their fix is to replace it. I had a friend install the new tranny only to have the same problem 3,000 miles later, so back to the dealer we went. I was charged $550 to install the next one because they did not install the first. After 300 miles the light came back on and the transmission would not down shift which put her in danger not being able to accelerate after delivering mail. So a new transmission was put in again this time for no cost except gas to get it to the dealer and my wife having to use her leave to have this done. Now after 100 miles the light came on the dealer said that the chances are slim that the tranny was bad and it must be in the tcm or the wiring harness. Why does chrysler install a transmission in a vehicle and not train their mechanics to work on them.

Since the first day of ownership of new jeep cherokee 10/3/1999, there has been a grinding sound coming from the 4-wheel drive transfer case. Selling dealer replaced transfer case lubricant. Mechanic said chrysler used "substandard" lubricant. Grinding continued. Repeated attempts for selling dealer (begnal motors) to fix were not successful. Differential replaced at 9585 miles by sawyer motors in saugerties new york. Metal shavings found in transfer case. Warping in gear bolt holes. Dealer said transfer case should be "pristine" at 9,000 miles. Grinding returned at 13,000. Worse on deceleration and during rain. Jeep zone rep. Says chrysler is aware of the problem. Doesn't know how to fix it. Even said problem is "normal". This exact problem reported several times by ntsha in 1999 model. On 6/19/2000 chrysler rep. Wants to replace entire transfer case. Value of vehicle has been reduced. Will lose 5,000 if i sell now. Unsure of safety issues. Chrysler customer support is shameful. They have lost records of my calls. However, chrysler rep explained if 4-wheel drive lever is placed in the wrong position, damage can occur. Sawyer motors owner bob siracasano says he drove another 2000 model that didn't make the sound. Zone rep. Peter hewitt says he cannot guarantee that once the transfer case is replaced, the sound will not go away. This unacceptable. This is a defect. Do you agree? i have had a loaner car for 21 days. I spent $24,000 and now know chrysler has a trackrecord of using poor quality parts, bad customer support and uncooperative dealerships. Consumers need the nhtsa to stand up for us! please investigate. Thank you.

The vehicle was in park with the engine running, when all of a sudden the gear went into reverse and hit another vehicle.

I angle parked my jeep in a bank parking lot.after parking, the transmission remained in drive with the motor running.i sat in my jeep for a minute or two, assembling the paperwork i'd need in the bank.i then turned the ignition switch to the lock position, which turned off the motor (but, unfortunately, the transmission remained in drive).i then pulled my jeep key out of the ignition, got out of the jeep and walked about 75 - 100 feet to the entry stairs leading to the bank.at that moment, a lady yelled to me.my jeep was slowly rolling backwards and it stopped after it hit a building about 70 feet away, striking the building at an approximate 60 degree angle.due to the manufacturing defect, my jeep sustained body damage in the amount of $260.42 for which i have an estimate.had the defect not existed, there would have been no accident because i would not have been able to turn the ignition switch to lock without first placing the transmission in park.daimlerchrysler motors corporation repaired the manufacturing defect but refuses to take any responsibility for body damage to my jeep.can you help?will you help?your help to resolve this ridiculous issue would be greatly appreciated.daimlerchrysler's reference number for my claim is 9908985.i have telephoned them two or three times and written two letters to their auburn hills, mi offices and they have written three letters to me but refuse to pay the $260.42.

My wife parked our 2000 jeep grand cherokee in our driveway on 6-29-01 after arriving from a short trip to the stores with my two kids and mother-in-law.my wife stopped the car about 1-2 ft in front of the garage door, placed the car in "park" and removed her foot from the brake.the car then accelerated unexpectedly and catapulted them through our garage door and into our other parked car which was inside our one-car garage.my wife had complained about 1 1/2 months earlier about the jeep surging forward after it being placed in "park" and the foot being removed from the brake.i shrugged it off believing that maybe my wife had her foot on the accelerator and the car in "drive".i should have believed her then because after this accident i'm convinced it wasn't my wife's fault.the jeep is not safe!my wife is a mature, responsible and healty 38 year old dentist who has never been in an accident during her 20+ years of driving.please take a serious look at this complaint since the dealer denies any problems with the car and only wants to fix it and give it back to us.we do not want the car back, even after allstate pays for the repairs nor do we think the dealer should be able to sell the car to another unsuspecting buyer.please advice.thank you.

In summer of 2000 driveshaft at rear universal joint snapped in-two.again, in spring of this year same problem occurred.both events replaced at dealer' s facility.initial failure was a warranteed event second was at my cost. Today (6/11/01) the rear differential 'pinion' was found to be faulty.i truly think there is a metallurgical problem her.dealer personnel are unable to provide causal information.so far no injuries or accidents resulting from these problems but clearly this is indicative of metallurgical failures.

This report is being submitted by a children's hospital on behalf of a patient family.a 10 year old patient was riding in the back seat of a 2000 jeep cherokee when family was involved in a crash at approximately 60 mph. Patient and family report that the seat belt in her seating position 'popped' open at the buckle at the time of impact.according to patient and family the seat belt was properly buckled prior to the crash.patient sustained injuries requiring hospitalization that are not expected to result in long term disability.patient's 4 year old sibling was also buckled in a booster seat in the back seat; this seatbelt remained buckled and the sibling was uninjured.

The seat belt on my 2000 jeep cherokee has come unintentionally unlatched 2 times within the 2 months i have owned the vehicle.once as i was traveling about 25 mph i was forced to slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a child who ran into the street.the second time occurred as i was traveling over a road under repair.i hit a large pothole, bounced and as i came back down, the seat belt unbuckled. *nlm

When the automatic seat belt retracted back into position,it was difficult for the consumer to enter the vehicle as well as exit. Ts

My 2000 jeep cherokee [xxx] passenger side seat belt is hard to buckle up due to some mechanical interference inside the buckle itself. Both front seat belt latches are difficult to release because the release button does not allow the strap buckle to come out without a lot of manipulation causing this to be a safety problem. As i was accelerating from a stop i heard a loud crack and the drivers side front seat broke from the base mount.the seat broke at one corner but did not come totally seperated.if it had totally broken free it could have caused a major accident as i was in heavy traffic when it broke.i have not yet fixed the issue and plan to do the repairs myself.this sounds like a very common problem for my make and model based on internet forums and i am very disappointed that chrysler has not initiated a safety recall for this issue.

Engine leakbad seat and brake light i need some help please replacerearwipe,

I was driving my 2000 jeep cherokee sport on the highway going 55mph when my drivers seat went back unexpectedly almost causing me to get into an accident. (the problem was the front frame of the seat just snapped, this seems to be a common issue i have just found out that has been going on for a while, jeep should do a recall on these as this is very dangerous and i could have gotten killed).

The driver seat broke in the rear right corner and front left corner and now the seat leans back and is not drivable.

I have a 200 jeep cherokee sport, 4wd. I also had a 1996 jeep cherokee sport, 4wd. Both have the same 2 problems. #1 is a broken drivers seat. The bracket is too small and splits near the bolt holes. You can't drive like this, the current one (2000) started with a small noise when i was exiting the car. The next day it let loose on a bumpy road on a corner. I didn't think much of it the first time with the 1996, which i traded for the 2000, but since it has happened again, i did some research and it is a common problem. I stumbled onto this site: http://vlane.com/poll/30/2001-jeep-grand-cherokee-has-your-driver-side-front-seat-broken-on-this-jeep problem #2, and more serious is a huge wobble, shimmy, shake problem at around 50 mph. So much so that you feel as if the car is going to be thrown off the road or flip. Also this problem developed on my 96 jeep before i traded it for this one, and now has started on this 200 jeep, so again seeing a pattern, i did more research and found more people with this problem. Here is just one site: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0e6f51/0please help! these are safety issues not to mention possible design flaws that are costly to repair. Thank you.

Driver's side seat frame broke from floor mount.

We own a 2000 jeep cherokee sport with approx. 155,000 miles.we bought it used 02/2004.sometime in june 2010, just a couple of weeks prior to incident, the driver seat began to make a noise while sitting in it, during acceleration, and braking.we could not find the source of annoying noise and just hoped it would go away. On friday, july 9, 2010 when my husband went to do errands and sat in the seat he said it felt odd and the noise was gone. Happy the noise was gone he went about his business. When i got into the jeep on sunday, july 11, 2010 i noticed the seat was wobbling. I got out and looked under the seat.i found the problem....where the seat attaches to the seat adjuster the metal had ripped almost completely through at the right front bolt. While sitting in the seat it rocks from front left to right rear. The situation calls for immediate action on our part to get it fixed. We are obtaining information (time and cost to fix and amount of time without a vehicle-it's the driver seat not passenger) on welding, new seat, or replacement from junkyard.i am not excited about wanting to use another jeep seat as i fear same issue will occur. This is our only vehicle.we do not go mudding, four wheeling, mountain climbing, off roading with it. We don't live near a beach or take it to the coastline in order for high salt concentration in air to be a factor. Yes we live in the midwest but salt from shoes cannot reach this part. Of the seat.

Front driver's seat of 2000 jeep cherokee sport had failure in bracket holding on the left front and right rear of drivers seat to the floor.*la

The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

2000 jeep cherokee sport, 4.06 cyl, 4 door. Currently 168,000 miles. Replaced front drivers side seat 3 times, since i purchased new.seat breaks under normal use. Huge safety issue .

Driving down city street(35mph),applied brakes for stop light, seat frame(drivers side) apparently broke in 2 spots almost catapultingme into the back seat,if not for the seat belt.

My company owns a fleet of 1998-2000 jeep cherokees used as marked security vehicles. At least three driver bucket seats have broken while the vehicle was being driven- certainly a potential cause of accidents. The metal where the seat is bolted to the floor of the vehicle tears, causing the front right corner of the seat to come loose and pitch up.

I noticed my driver's seat wobbling and found that two of the brackets that hold this seat to the floor were broken.the left front bracket broke once before but it was welded about 2 years ago.from what i've seen on the internet, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of complaints regarding this same issue.a recall needs to be issued as this is a huge safety concern for myself and my family as well as others who own jeep vehicles.please issue a recall before a fatal accident occurs.please let me know if there is anything further that i need to do; and i look forward to your prompt response in this regard.thank you.

The front drivers side seat broke at the back approximately july 2003. I had it repaired and i was told that the metal is too thin and that's why it broke. It broke again so i tried to buy a used seat from several salvage yards. They all said that they sell as fast as they come in do to the backs breaking.

Seat bracket on drivers side seat completely broke, seat wiggles and moves.

Driver side front seat broke off the frame! never has this happened before to me. Now i have to get it welded or buy a new seat. It ripped right off the frame.

Trucks rear seats do not come equipped with a head rest.consumer feels "due to the occupants head not being protected they could sustain serious head injuries if vehicle is involved in an accident". The rear seat back is very low.*ph *ph

Brakes failed for no apparent reason. Was sitting in drive through waiting to pick something up and when i took my foot off the brake to put it in drive i had no more brakes and brake fluid was shooting out the bottom right passenger side of jeep. Luckily my emergency brake worked and i was able to stop without killing or hurting anyone. Mechanic charged me $500.00 to fix it and told me that the brake line was rotted and needed to be replaced in addition the hoses were no good. This was the second time i lost brakes on this jeep during my ownership. The first time was 5 years before this date.

Defective brakes

There has been a problem with the brakes since january 2003.the brakes locked twice and damaged the rotors. Also, experienced vibration in the steering wheel and pulsation in the brake pedal.on 6/6/2003 the entire braking system was replaced by sears auto shop.currently the vehicle is experiencing the same symptoms.

The contact owns a 2000 jeep cherokee sport. The contact stated that whenever there was moisture in the air, the brakes became resistant and jolted the vehicle. The vehicle would come to a sudden stop; however, she felt that she would hit the windshield if she did not have a seat belt on. She noticed the failure every time there was moisture in the vehicle. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact called the manufacturer who referred her to nhtsa. The current mileage was approximately 126,000. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.

Severe brake problems with 2000 jeep cherokee.*mrthere was an ongoing braking problem and difficulty diagnosing the problem.the problem wasthought to be the rotors which were cut and replaced (the front pads).the problem still continued.then the front rotors were diagnosed as being warped and the brakes were 50% worn.there was a tapping noise in the shifting area as well as a rubbing noise in the steering column that comes and goes.(unable to diagnose)the vehicle had been diagnose as the rear brake drums being out of round.the water pump leaked and was replaced along with the thermostat.the comsumer requested a refund*scc

There appears to be defective braking systems on many of the jeep cherokee models.i own a 2000 jeep cherokee limited and had to replace the rotors and pads on it twice before 25,000 miles.the brakes pulsate and when sitting at a street light with the brake depressed, it feels as if someone has hit me in the rear end.the vehicle moves while the brake is depressed.i have read all over the internet regarding these same issues and daimler-chrysler doesn't want to admit there is defective equipment on their jeeps.

Severe pulsation in steering wheel when brakes are applied, and not stopped properly. Dealer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

A great deal of pressure needs to be applied in order to adequately bring vehicle to a complete stop. Brakes feel spongy.

Concerned that failure occurred on a vehicle that is fairly light duty. No safety defect listed in summary.

Jeep acelerated on its own causing me to have to stand on the brakes(thinking i had abs) brakes did not work correctly, causing me to hit the back of a 4x4 truck at the speed of about 15 mph all bumper parts had to be replaced as did many other parts air bags did not go off. Today i took the jeep back to dealer for the 4th time to try to get thing taken care of .on the 1st trip i was told that my abs breaks were working fine and that the mechanic felt them kick in.took it back a week later because break peddle dropped to the floor, again i was told that all breaks were fine and that the abs were working.on 5/29/01 my husband took jeep in and test drove it w/ service manager and they decided the abs was not working at all. And then we were told that we did not have abs ( salesmen told us the jeep had abs).the front end now shakes at about 45-55 when going around curves and sometimes when making turns at lower speed.when jchrysler was contacted they tried to blame everything on me. It was my fault that i didn't check to see if the jeep had abs( who would have thought that it wouldn't have them and we did ask to make sure and we were told yes it had them) and it was also my fault that an inspector did not come out to inspect the jeep after the crash because i did not request one to although no one told me that one could come out i am supose to be able to find this information out on my own.as of today the jeep is in for service again 3rd time for brake service 2nd time for front end vibrations and 2nd time to have them fix all the things they didn't do right the 1st time.

Consumer was involved in a high speed frontal collision in whichdriver's/ passenger's air bags did not deploy.also, abs brakes locked up,causing extended stopping distance. Please give any further details.

Steering column vibrates when brakes are applied, especially down hill, causing vehicle to shimmy. Strong vibration allows consumer not to have full control of vehicle.dealer advised that brakes warped due to overheating.

Abs brake failure.

When brakingat high speeds vehicle vibrates heavily. Dealership replaced the brakes every 3000 miles. The problem has not been resolved.

When traveling normal speedand applyingbrakesvehicle jerks. Brakes will stop vehicle, but vehicle starts vibrating. Dealership is aware of problem.

Brakes are noisy at all times, speed or weather conditions do not matter. Jeep dealer sais that's just the waybrakes are on this vehicle.

Brakes began to pulse at 18k and now at 22k when running about 55 mph the vehicle will pulses hard and makes it difficult to control when trying tostop.this is very dangerous when in heavy traffic or on wet roads.

When driving and braking under any conditions brake pedal pulsates which results in extended stopping distance. Factory defective pads, calipers, and rotors caused excessive vibration, shudder and pulsation while braking. Chrysler issued a tsb with a replacement kit no better than the oem. Consumer was forced to order aftermarket brakes and pads to correct the problem. Consumer filed suit against chrysler.*ph

Brakes began pulsating and shaking on 12/2000, 22422 miles. Repaired 1/04/2001. Repeated previous problem on 4/05/01, 27028 miles. Repaired. Now 1/17/2002 and brakes are again in need of repair. I feel this could be dangerous and at the very least their is a defect in these brakes. Thank you.

Whenbrakes are appliedfront end pulsates, and steering wheel wobbles from left to right. Dealer has been duplicating problem.

Had to servicebrakes for the 3rd time after purchasing vehicle brand new. Dealer and manufacture had been notified.

Design flaw in degradation of the seals on the drum of the vehicle's anti-lock braking system.*mr this allowed more moisture into the drums, causing unpredictable locking of the vehicle's rear brakes. Such locking could cause driver to lose control. Consumer made many attempts to find a resolution with jeep and local dealerships and the customer service division, to no avail. The dealerships admitted the problem was endemic to the design and replacing the brakes wouldn't eliminate the problem- it would come back in time. They admitted it's an inherent feature, but stated they have no plans to attempt to rectify it. Other than the brake problem, the consumer was pleased with the purchase.*ph

Rotors warped excessively every 17,000 miles. Also, extended stopping stopping distance. Consumer smelled brake fluid whenbrakes were applied ,and the front end shook. Problem has existed since december 2000, and progressing. Dealer was notified. Please provide more information.

Every 3000 miles brakes go out. Brakes and calipers have been repaired four times. Front rims are hot to the touch. Consumer states that the plastic hub caps get soft and come off, both calipers have been replaced once, rotors replaced 4 times and turned once, brake pads have been replaced 5 times.

Going 40 mph frontend bounces,&putting on brakes,it bounces.

When applying the brakes, there is an abnormal amount of disturbing brake squealing, even in optimal driving conditions, brake pads changed, brake squealing continues to be a problem.cj

The vehicle's steering wheel shakes violently when brakes are applied. The problem appears to be continueous and the consumer wants the manufacturer to refund or provide a longer bumper to bumper warranty.

Front end was vibrating and brakes were grabbing. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer changed rotors and pads.the consumer stated that the rotors were defective.

While driving applied brakes, and brakes didnot stop vehicle. Took vehicle to dealer, and had brakes repaired.this was the third time brakes had been replaced.

Engine blewout while driving at highway speed of 65-70 mph.dealer notified. Vehicle jerks while in motion at hywy speeds.the compressor clutch was defective and was replaced.the brakes pulsate when applied.the front rotors was turned.brakes shudder when braking from highway speeds.the rotors were found to be warped. The engine overheats.the cooling system was found to be under high pressure.the cylinder heads were removed because they were warped.the engine was replaced due to warpage.a bump is felt when coming to a stop.the rear driveshaft was replaced with revised parts per technical service bulletin.the rear end noise is still apparent.a new shaft and yoke were installed.the transmission shofts hard on acceleration in low gears.the transmission control module was reprogrammed.acceleration is still jerky while in motion and the turn signals and headlights go on and off at random.consumer asks for reimbursment of monies paid and to have vehicle traded for one that can be trusted.*jg

There was a problem with the brakes, a noise in the motor, and the differential was leaking.*dt

2000 cherokee sport - 20626 miles.i initially had issues with the steering dampner which was causing vibration in the front end. After that was fixed everything was fine for a few months, then the front end started shaking when braking.....worse when going down hill.service says this is not normal, but it has been seen before.i called chrysler and spoke with matt.explained the situation and was told there was nothing they could do since it was beyond the 12/12000 warranty for brakes.decided to do a little research and found that jeep has had serious issues with brakes on the cherokee for years now.there are occassional re-calls, but not on the 2000 cherokee! why can we not get help from from the nhtsa in forcing chrsler to recall these dangerous vehicles?

Vehicle and brake pedal vibrated when brakes were applied.

When brakes are appliedsteering wheel and front end vibrate. Dealer contacted.

I had been involved in an accident on 7-4-01 due to brakes failing to even slow jeep. On 8-6-01 i met w/ district service manager, frank teliofario at martin jeep so he could look at the jeep.he test drove it for 2 miles, "pulled the wheels" and said there was nothing wrong with the jeep. He stated that he thought my problem was that it didn't have abs brakes as i'd been told. I told him no, my problem was the brakes didn't work sometimes!an hour and a half later, i stepped on the brakes for a yellow light and heard a screeching as if working on a metal lathe and bringing the cutting tool too deep, and the whole jeep shook, felt like it was going to fall apart. I was hoping i would slow down before i went through the now-red light. I did stop but didn't know what had happened. I checked rear-view mirror and also turned around at next opportunity. No skid marks.it was not the tires as the dist mgr had suggested. I called him *still at the dealership* and he said he would check into some things and call me back "today or tomorrow". I have never heard from him again. Hired a lawyer, now my insurance company notified me to not drive the jeep as it's not safe, and i"m awaiting their specialist to come look at the jeep. It is parked and i am driving another vehicle. I will not trade it in because i don't want someone to be killed due to whatever this problem is that chrysler is refusing to acknowledge. If what they stated was true and there was no problem, then i would have no problems with stopping of this jeep.each time they tell me there is no problem, the problem occurs again.they have a serious problem w/ these jeeps. When i took jeep in to get repaired from accident on 7-4-01 auto body shop owner said he's had at least 4 other cherokees identical to mine in his shop for repairs of the same problem.what is wrong with these jeeps? why is chrysler refusing to fix this problem?

When it rains brakes become defective and it is harder to slow down, and feel like they don't catch immediately.i have had a car crash due to faulty brakes. I reported this problem to the manufacturer and they are not willing to do anything.since purchasing this jeep i have had it repaired or looked at by 3 different dealerships and one goodyear dealership, 6 times in the first six months in attempts to get the various problems corrected. My main concern was and is the brakes. In dry weather they vibrate, pull and cause the whole front end to shake. In wet weather and snow they do not always catch right away and also i feel a "thumping" on the brake pedal and also a "thumping" noise when they are applied, as if something is broken inside.on july 4 after a heavy thunderstorm the person ahead of me failed to turn and i slammed on the brakes. At about 30 feet i realized that my jeep wasn't slowing down, and because the dealership that sold me the jeep said i had antilock brakes, i stood on them, knowing that you shouldn't pump abs brakes.i hit the car in front of me, damaging my jeep but not the other car.i have reported this to chrysler, and yesterday (7/13/01) met with their independent special investigator, who test drove the jeep in dry weather.he stated that there is nothing wrong with the brakes, but that i have rear-wheel drive and do not have abs brakes. I checked with my insurance company and the dealership reported to them, the day i purchased the car that i had antilock brakes.chrysler has been totally unresponsive, and does not seem to care that this vehicle if not for the slow speed could have already resulted in major injuries or death.they say this vehicle is safe but the brakes have *already* failed in one accident, how do they conclude this vehicle is safe when none of their representatives have ever driven it in wet weather, except the one dealership that *did* find a problem with the brakes.

Severe pulsation in steering wheel when brakes are applied, and not stopped properly. Dealer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Severe vibration was experienced when applying brakes at speeds greater than 45 mph. At less than 7,000 miles the problem was diagnosed as "brake run out" by the dealer. It appears as if the braking systems are defective on the 2000 jeep cherokee (this is not a grand cherokee model). I believe the use of composite brake rotors is causing the rotors to warp under normal use. This is a serious safety concern and must be addressed immediately by daimler-chrysler corporation.

After 4 attemts to remedy this problem chrysler has only "thanked" me for "sharing my concerns".in the meantime i am driving a vehicle that requires new brakes ever 3000 miles.is there something wrong with that picture?i can send you all the documents regarding this including their response.thanks beverly paulsey.

Vehicle vibrates when lightly applying brakes at hwy. Speeds this condition appears at first to be a alignment problem until you discover that it only happens when you are applying brakes this problem after inquiering with other people seems to be a common occurence it is my belief after talking to other people that this complaint has been conveyed to the dealer and have been told that thisis only covered up to 12000 the mfg.i presently have 14760 mil.this could a much bigger problem when someone who is not used to the vehicle or has not been warned of this problem .

Heavy duty front rotors...non component style....built to run mail routes..right hand drive.front brakes continually overheating causing rotors to have to be turned every 3 to 6 thousand miles.front brakes getting so hot...rotors turning blue.now with a brand new set of rotors and new pad on front..new shoes and turned rotors on back...after only 30 minutes of running..overheated..blued rotors and brakes faded..completely away.vehicle would not stop. Back brake do not appear to be holding at all.only one set of back pads needed in 26,ooo miles while 4 sets of front pads worn out or broken from overheating of rotors.first set of rotors replaced after turning 2 times..they warped causing shimmy in front end on braking.this vehicle has never had good brakes.pedal has felt mushy from day one and very hard pressure must be applied to pedal in order to come to a complete stop.dealership has already replace one master cylinder and i just had another one installed.don't know where the problem is...but when vehicle is up on stands in rear..and placed in gear..back wheels continue to roll when brakes are applied.seems that there is not nearly enough pressure being sent to back brakes.vehicle seems to be relying solely on front brakes.all lines have been checked..and wheel cylinders and calipers are okay.dealership says...no recalls or problems from other customers.i can see from reading this forum...that is not true!please help!i don't want to wreck when my brakes fail and possibly injure myself, grandkids, or someone else.especially don't want to wreck on the mail route.the post office might just frown on that...especially since jeep is very much aware that they have a problem but still insist that there is none!help!!!!

Thank you.

Steering column vibrates when brakes are applied, especially down hill, causing vehicle to shimmy. Strong vibration allows consumer not to have full control of vehicle.dealer advised that brakes warped due to overheating.

Braking at highway speed causes violent shimmy and causes the vehicle to lurch to the left or right.dealer told me it was the brake rotors warped.they are not covered past 12mo/12kmile warranty.this is a serious safety concern and should be recalled and covered under warranty.

Brakes pulsate when braking. Chevrolet says a recall on jeep rotors. Jeep (crysler) says no.

Whenbrakes are appliedfront end pulsates, and steering wheel wobbles from left to right. Dealer has been duplicating problem.

Front end was pulsating when applying brakes, stopping distance was normal. Front rotors were warped, and pads needed to be replaced.consumer hadrotors recut, then installed them again. Consumer felt that recall in 1999, and earlier models for rotors should include2000 model.

Vehicle had mutiple problems with the brakes. This has caused the brakes to be replaced three times within the year, as well as having the calpers and rotors replaced.

Consumer complained about a brake problem.this problem included premature warping of brake rotors and calipers. Rotors were replaced on three separate occasions.

While applying the brakespedal pulsated, andsteering wheel shook.driver was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic replaced the brake pads and both frontal rotors.

Front brake rotors have been replaced ,andrear secondary brake pads and shoes were cracked down the middle.

Violent shaking and vibration of steering control when braking.this can cause driver to panic and loose control of vehicle. Due to warped brake rotors and worn brake pads.

While applying the brakes vehicle shook and vibrated. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that brake pads and both front brakerotors needed to be replaced.

Jeep claims that it does not have a problem with brake rotors, after researching, they seem to have a big problem they will not fix.it is to late to help my six month old baby who ended up in the hospital after a failure!

At about 8,000 miles while driving down from big bear lake, the car experienced sever front end vibration during braking he car was returned to tuttle-click where they determined the rotors were warped. The rotors were turned under warranty. About 11 months later while returning from my next trip to big bear the problem recurred at 13,000 miles. The car was returned to tuttle- click and the problem was identified as warped rotors. This time they refused to turn the rotors even though the 3 year / 30,000 mile warranty was in effect. This is a safety related design defect and should be corrected.

Front brakes rotors are corroded and are prematurely wearing. Cause unknown.

My cherokee has 14000miles i have had the truck for 2 yrs.i took it to the dealership for the front end shaking and they told me that the rotors were warped.the brakes are only covered for 12000 miles.it cost me 180.00 dollars to fix,it seems to me that the rotors should last longer than that jeep should fix the problem or nobody should buy them

Pulsation of brakes,, replaced rotors, turned rotors,, every six months.

All tread worn off right front tire after 5500 miles and tire goes flat.jeep dealer and goodyear tire dealer say alignment ok. Goodyear says possible wheel bearing failure causing tire to drag. Jeep will not inspect bearing. After 2 hrs driving at 25mph cannot steer car, braking causes stearing wheel to vibrate, touching lug nuts will burn finger, hub and brake rotor hot.( dot number: )

When the consumer applied the brake the vehicle vibrated violently.the vehicle was taken to midas and they said that the rotors werewarped.*nlm

Consumer complains thatrotor, when brakes are applied, will forcevehicle to jump into another lane of traffic.please provide any additional information/attachments.

My 2000 jeep cherokee was purchased new in 2000.since then, my front brakes and rotors have had to be replaced every 7000 miles.the dealer replaced them at 7000 miles and after that refused.said it was normal wear and tear after 10,000 miles and not under warranty.said it was because i drive my vehicle for work (post office) and stop a lot.there are 35 pages of complaints on the internet stating exactly the same problem at every 7000 miles and 54 complaints on your site with the same problem.when the rotors warp, the car is very difficult to stop safely at 40 to 55 mph.apparently, chrysler has had this complaint since 1998 thru 2003.why hasn't there been a recall?a safety violation?

Front brake rotors were prematurely warped, cause unknown. Dealer could notidentify the cause.

Brake rotors warped and were replaced at 22,000 miles and warping has reoccurred. Front end shakes when brakes are applied, and there was extended stoppping distance.dealer was notified.

When the brakes were applied, there was a pulsation in the steering wheel, which was caused by warped rotors.the consumer felt that a new design was needed.the front brakes had been repaired twice. *scc. The fuel pump module was replaced.

Front brake rotors were replaced once and turned twice less then two years, andproblem is reoccurriing. Dealer notified. The engine was hard to start due to fuel pump module failure which was replaced.

This rotor defect was recognized as a defect in the 1999 model and it is the same problem in the 2000 model. Yor agency has hundreds of complaints re this issue and a recall should be isssued. Chrylser has ignored the issue and will only react when forced to do so. Rotors should not wear out and become dangerous after just 6000 miles. Please do something.

The brake rotors are worn and caused extended stopping distance. *nlm

While applying the brakespedal pulsated, andsteering wheel shook.driver was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic replaced the brake pads and both frontal rotors.

Ongoing problem with out of round rotors. Rotors are being turned or replaced every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. Condition causes vehicle to vibrate severely when applying brakes. Consumer stated that the vehicle was a safety hazard and eventually would be the cause of an accident. The vibration that was caused by the brakes were beginning to cause the front tires to wear irregularly.

The front rotors experienced premature failure, which caused extended stopping distance.

I had to replace my front rotors at 35,000 - chrysler said it's normal wear and tear and wouldn't fix them. There was a problem with a seal on the gas tank.i brought it in for service at least 4 or 5 times before it was fixed.a $2.00 wire broke inside the front door for the front speaker at 43,000 miles and they charged me $200.00 to fix it.the salesman sold me a convenience package that was purported as an extended warranty, but was actually a towing and rental car package.

Brake rotorswere getting warped after 10,000 miles. Dealer had been contatced for repairs under warranty, but refused to repair because it was consumer's fault according todealer's repair shop.please provide further details.

At 7,000 miles, the vehicle would shake violently and the brake pedal would pulsate excessively when the brakes were applied at highway speeds of 40+ mph, especially downhill.took to dealership and they were able to replicate condition.dealership explained that shaking and pulsations were due to defective rotors which had warped from excessive heat - not due to emergency braking, but just normal use.dealership replaced rotors and pads without cost to customer.unfortunately, the same problem arose soon after my first anniversay with the vehicle at about 17,500 miles.took to same dealership and they diagnosed the same problem (rotor warping due to overheating - not from abusive braking, but from normal braking by customer).they repaired the problem by resurfacing front rotors and replacing front pads without cost to the customer (excellent service department).my concern is that the service department rep stated that the same problem would come up again after about 8-10,000 miles because the rotors and braking system are defective from the manufacturer.he stated that jeep and the federal government have to "bump heads" before this problem is permanently corrected.please make jeep acknowledge and correct this serious problem before someone is killed or seriously injured.jeep needs to stand behind its product if it wishes to maintain its rather good reputation.if not, jeep will lose its customer base and will eventually go the way of the dodo bird.the other problem i have experienced is the malfunctioning of the my rear trunk door lock.it gets stuck quite often, such that i cannot disengage the lock to open thetrunk.i must lock and reopen the vehicle's locks (with the remote control) to get the rear hood lock to work properly.otherwise, my 2000 jeep cherokee is quite satisfactory.however, i worry about my out-of-pocket expenses once my warranty expires.can you investigate these problems and try to get jeep to commit to a recall?

Front rotors have been replaced three times since vehicle was purchased. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

Consumer states while trying to stop the brakes seem to hesistate, like going over gravel but they'll stop. Took to a mech and they said it was the rotors.

Wheels pulsate and shake.consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they resurfacedrotors.also, vehicle needed rear brakes. Please provide any further information.

Within 8000-10000 milessfront rotors are warping. Contacted dealer, anddealer is not willing to do anything.

When driving at an undetermined speed, the front end vibrated. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection and themechanicdetermined that thefront rotorsfailed. The consumer stated that front rotors were replaced three times, every 15,000 miles. The consumer found three other vehicles of the same make/model experienced that same problem. *sc

While applying the brakes vehicle shook and vibrated. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that brake pads and both front brakerotors needed to be replaced.

When applying brakessteering wheel would shake.took vehicle to dealer, and they stated that rotors were warped.please provide further any further information.

These vehicles definitely have a problem with front end vibration and rotors. 5401 miles i need new rotors, at 23,000 miles new brakes and resurfacing rotors and replacing bearings. Dealer now says it is normal wear. I don't drive the vehicle that far maybe 20 miles a day if i'm lucky. Now this is going to be an ongoing problem with this vehicle and would like to have something done about it. Vehicle also making noises dealer cannot hear or duplicate.*ph**dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768034

Brake rotors are warped. Dealership is awareofproblem.

Consumer stated the front brakes warped. As a result, front end shook.

Rotors were permaturely warping at 6,000 and at 14,000 miles.causeunknown. Please provide further information.

When the brakes were applied, there was pulsation and the vehicle pulled to the right.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 6 occasions for the rotors.

Consumer was traveling on the highway, when he applied brakes vehicle shook and vibrated. Dealership was aware of problem.the mechanic of the dealership mechanic informed consumer that brake rotors were warped.

The vehicle shakes when the brakes are applied , in particular going downhill. This happened the first time at 10,000 miles. Returned vehicle to the dealer. They said the rotors were warped. The brakes were under warranty so they fixed them. Now it has happened again. This is a known problem, but no one seems to want to acknowledge it.

Vehicle had mutiple problems with the brakes. This has caused the brakes to be replaced three times within the year, as well as having the calpers and rotors replaced.

Front brake rotors warp prematurely, causingvehicle to vibrate when comig to a stop.dealer states that this is common.

Brakes malfunctioned both right and left rotors were scored and ruined on the inside only. The brakes failed at 33,809 miles.looking through the wheel from the outside, the outside of the rotors looked good with no unusual wear.the vehicle also had air conditioning problems and needed to have the muffler replaced.

The jeep started shaking when the brakes were applied at speeds of 40 mph and up at mileage of 950miles. Called dealership and was told this was normal that the brakes needed to break in.claimed that it was safe to drive. I in turn, continued to use the jeep but the problem never seemed to clear up. At about 19825 miles i was traveling on the highwaywith my wife and two children and i was forced to apply my brakes in anemergency situation, and instead of coming to asafe stop jeep shocked violently and pulled to the right, almost hitting the car besides me .it was a very close callfor me and my family. As soon as possible i took my jeep to the dealer to have them check .the problemthey told me that rotors needed to be resurfaced, and it would cost approximately 117 dollars and not covered under mywarranty which is bumper to bumper360000 miles or 36 months.i told the dealer i would take the jeep to my mechanic and have themdo the work even thoughiwould think they shoud of took care of it at the dealer under the warranty . I told my mechanic the problem i had with the jeep, and he informed me that he encountered sevral jeepswith the same problem. He informed me that the rotors on the newwer jeepswere defective, and he explained to me that the rotors are made out of composite metals and even if you resuface them they willwarpout of round again, and i would have the same problem. In turn, he couldnt guarante that it wouldnt happen again. He told me4 the only way to fix the problem was to put to newrotorson at the price of 450.00 . I called the dealer and talked to the servicemanagerronmatzand then the genral managerbrett adamsand they insisted they could not do any thing for me.im hoping you can help me out.

When pressing on the brake pedal at any speed vehicle vibrated from the front end.consumer took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection, and mechanic i determinedboth front rotorsfailed. The consumer stated that front rotorswere replaced over nine times, starting at 5,000 miles of owning the vehicle ,and currently the vehicle was at 36,202 miles. Consumerinformedchrysler on two occasions about this issue.

Front brake rotors would vibrate and shimmy when applied.problemwas getting worse.rotorswere warped. Would need to hold tight to steering wheel for control of vehicle.

There is a problem with the brakes. Vehicle shakes when depressing the brake pedal.rotors have been replaced by the dealer, but the problem still occurs.

Since we have owned this jeep, we have experienced chronic problems with the front tire wheel balance and rotor system on the front end of this vehicle.the problem started shortly after we took ownership of in october, 2000 when the truck had 1743 miles.brakes pulsated and it was determined that rotors were warped.first set up replacement rotors from dealership using chrysler parts june 26, 2001.problem occurred again december, 2001 when vehicle had 28,887 miles on it.dealership offered to resurface rotors as they were warped.refused to replace them even though they were defective and still under warrantee.took vehicle to a third party mechanic and paid to have installed after market rotors to address pulsating brakes and issue that when pulsating brakes were applied on highway, vehicle pulled sharply to the left.defective rotors - recall is necessary to prevent future serious injury to those operating vehicle with original rotors.*jg

Brakes rotor s are warped, and when consumer appliesbrakes, vehicle shakes.

Took to dealer, said that it was normal wear and tear for a rotor to be warped at 17,500 miles.

Rotors warped excessively every 17,000 miles. Also, extended stopping stopping distance. Consumer smelled brake fluid whenbrakes were applied ,and the front end shook. Problem has existed since december 2000, and progressing. Dealer was notified. Please provide more information.

At speeds of 50 to 60 miles an hour while braking or if a bump is hit in the road, front tire vibration occurs and will only stop when speed is lowered to below 40 mph.after typing in "jeep cherokee front end vibration" on internet search did i find that this problem is present in all cherokees.it seems that the problem stems from the brake calipers warping the rotors every 8-10 thousand miles.this is ridiculous and is a safety issue.this vibration moves the steering side to side violently.

In oct 2000 lis. A jeep from damiolier chysler. In 2002 the jeep was all over the road took to thier shop they cut the rotters the jeep only had 6,000 miles in the year 2003 hda to return not even a year had gone by and they re-cut the rotors with only 12,000 mile on the jeep[. This is the year 2005 the jeep has only 24,000 miles and since dec. 2004 it started again. The place where i got the car is no longer in nj now it will cost me 500.00 to fix something which should have been fix right the first time.

Front brake rotors have been replaced ,andrear secondary brake pads and shoes were cracked down the middle.

Violent shaking and vibration of steering control when braking.this can cause driver to panic and loose control of vehicle. Due to warped brake rotors and worn brake pads.

Rotors warped very fast. Service technician statedmanufacturerwas puttingsame rotors on cherokee's, whichwere too heavy of a vehicle incomparison to wranglers.steering vibrated whenbrakes were applied, andvehicle would not stop. This was 3rd set of rotors put onevery 7-9 miles. Rotors have been changed.

Front brake rotor warping at 8,000 miles. Front right tire wear, front tires out of balance...vehicle now has 14000 miles and is pulsing and vibrating again.....i am in the process of contacting an attorney....this is not what i tought i bought and i am not going to change rotors every 5-15 thousand miles for the life of the vehicle.

Warped rotors cause dangerous front end shimmy when brakes applied - manufacturer denies defect exists - similiar problem, send contact info to [email protected].

I have just had my front rotors replaced twice.now i was notified by the dealership that in order to resolve a "knocking" noise in the rear when braking. I would have to have my rear rotors and rear axles replace. Also it seems as if i am having a front end alignment performed at least every 3 months.i am very concerned, because this 2000 cherokee sport is my only mode of transportation.i am the mother of two young sons, so this vehicle is constantly on the go. I can not afford any mishaps especially when my children's lives are concerned. Please contact me @ [email protected]

Consumer's vehicle rear ended another vehicle due to a malfunction in the rear brakes.while driving 35 mph, the driver applied pressure to the brake pedal andvehicle skidded 55 feet before hitting another vehicle.there were only skid marks from the front tires.the vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer.

Wheels pulsate and shake.consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they resurfacedrotors.also, vehicle needed rear brakes. Please provide any further information.

Rotors have required turning 4 times within 30,000 miles.dt

Rear brake cylinders are leaking, resulting in extended stopping distance while driving.

When driving my 2000 jeep cherokee sport at 45-50 miles an hour the jeep violently shakes from the front end. I researched this online and come to find out its called a "death wobble" among many jeep owners. This is a scary phenomena as driving at highway speeds the vehicle wobbles back and forth and violently shakes.

Thank you.

My jeep first started to shake violently when i was exiting onto an off-ramp. I pulled off the road; it was awful. I took it to a repair shop and they could not find anything wrong as the issue did not occur again right away. However, as time went on it did. It now happens rather frequently and it is terrifying every time. I have to get it repaired (new track bar) before something tragic happens. Please help! this is a known issue and yet no recall has been issued yet. By the time one is, due to accidents, i will hopefully have mine fixed. Therefore, this complaint is my plea on behalf of other jeep owners. When this happens, it honestly feels like the front wheels will likely fly off; it's rather disturbing for those in the vehicle and those driving nearby in other vehicles.

Death wobble in front end...

At 45 mph the vehicle began to shake violently and front end felt like it was vibrating apart, hit bakes and slow vehicle to 25 mph for it to stop. Have replace almost the whole front end steering components and still having the same issue. Have researched this and it is a problem with the vehicle that is being described as a death wobble. Now were going to try replace the track bar, as they are saying that the brackets for the track bar are getting waddled out due to only a 3/16 bolt to secure the track bar and cause the hole in bracket to get waddled out in the steel bracket. We have found that this is an issue that seams to be on all jeeps. In some case people have replaced the brackets with after market parts that are much thicket steel and using a grade 8 bolts and tack welding the bolt to bracket to stop the hole from being waddled out. My family is riding in this vehicle and this issue needs addressed before someone get seriously hurt or even loss of life as you lose control of the steeringof the vehicle when this occurs.

Chrysler put steering wheels on the passenger side for post office use. Also, when driving vehicle wouldnot steer properly. The vehicle pulled to the right.tire wearing due to poor alignment.

When making a right or left turn ,the steering wheel did not come back automatically.the dealer attempted to repair the vehicle four times but was not successful.the cause of the problem had not been determined.the service dealer had done everything that the manufacturer said to do in order to remedy the problem but the problem remained the same. *scc

While driving in a parking lot at a speedof 15 mph wheel steeringlocked up, causingvehicle to crash.

While making a turn at 5 mph vehicle lost all steering. Vehicle was towed to dealer , bolts on spacer by gearbox broke.

While driving at any speed, the cherokee pulls to the right side of the road.dealership is not able to determine what is causing this problem.the steering gear box was replaced, along with new ball joints. The problem still exists.*ml

The steering has a mind of its own. Turn the steering wheel and release it and it continues to turn until locked.wheels will not center themselves with vehicle moving forward. Diagnosed as faulty steering gear box.

Noise coming fromsteering wheel when making a left turn. Dealer was notified, and realignedsteering hose. If problem reoccurred, there was apossibility of replacing gear box. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

While traveling on a road at 40mph switch from asphalt to pavement would cause steering column to shimmy violently. Vehicle would then sway from left to right. Entire front end would shake. Barely able to maintain control of vehicle. Had taken to dealership, and steering linkage was replaced.

Dt:the caller said that while drivingat 10 mph lost steering control.he just got off the highway and was starting to turn into a parking lot when he lost control of the vehicle.he said the steering wheel would spinfreely into circles. There were no accidents or injuries. Vehicle was towed to a repair shop. He was told that the compression bolt that holds the steering knuckle and the steering wheel spindle together came loose and caused the loss of steering. The repair shop tightened the bolt. Dealer said they never heard of that problem. Manufacturer has not been contacted yet.

2000 jeep cherokee engine stopped without warning.***no answer required***. *mr there was a hole in the piston. For the past month, i was unable to get my hood to open to get an oil change.i decided to take my car to vavoline to see if the mechanics there could open the hood.they were also unable to open the hood.they told me i would have to take it to a body shop, or the dealership.later that evening while driving down the expressway at 70 mph, my hood flew open.i was unable to see in front of me.no one was injured and i was able to safely get my car to the side of the road.very disturbed by this incident, i researched and discovered that dodge rams had a recall for corrosion of the return spring on the hood secondary latch that could cause the mechanism to bind in the release position and the hood could open unexpectedly.i have also contacted daimler chrylser regarding the incident. Thank you.

Monroe shock absorber, model 550017; unit code p154h1after two years of light service in california the unit was removed to install a load supporting model 58914. Unit 550017 was functioning well with no visible signs of damage / malfunction. This shock absorber exploded upon removal from the lower mount.. The lower section was driven to the floor being propelled by compressed gas and oil. The upper section fell harmlessly to floor. There are no injuries or damages associated but that is a matter of fortune, not design. The retention mechanism has no safety design feature to prevent this. This should not be the case with gas charged shocks. Information supplied with the units make no mention of this possible failure.

While drivingat high speeds steering wheel vibrated.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

I have tried to reach out to transamerican auto parts in regards to recall 18e-072 and after being on hold for hours and multiple emails, i am not able to contact them.

While driving about 55 mph steering wheel will start vibrating.could feel it on passenger side, and in front of vehicle.

While traveling at 40-45 mph vehicle commenced to vibrate/shook, followed by engine check light coming on, and then vehicle lost power. Dealer notified, and had vehicle towed into shop. Informed consumer that the electronic control module had failed and needs replacement. Provide further details.

Death wobble in front end...

Consumer complains of the steering wheel having a slight shimmy, goodyear wranger rt/s tires (p225 75 r15) have been rotated and balanced and the problems still occurs, the shimmy could be due to a suspension problem or tire problem.

When driving about 55 mphvehicle shakes. Took vehicle to dealer who cannot remedy problem.

Chrysler put steering wheels on the passenger side for post office use. Also, when driving vehicle wouldnot steer properly. The vehicle pulled to the right.tire wearing due to poor alignment.

Front end wobbles at 50 miles hour-steering wheel wobble also.

The vehicle vibrated at speeds of 50-55 mph, the vibration could be felt in the steering wheel, and the right front wheel, the vehicle was brougt for service more than six times and each time something else was repaird but the problem was not corrected, consumer was informed by dealership that the vibration is a known defect and will never be able to be corrected.*yd

2000 jeep cherokee: this vehicle has had ongoing front end vibrations/woobling since 3000 miles. Has been in for service several times however problem has never been resolved! stablizer bar has been replaced, tires have been rotated, new tires have beenput on from new jeep on lot and same problem existed as with old tires. I would like to know why chyrsler seems to be ignoring this problem? there are several complaints similar to this so they must be fully aware of this existing problem. I can not drive the posted dot speed limit of 55 mph as the jeep is not safe to drive at that speed! i would like this problem resolved before my warranty expires at 36,000 miles, as i do not wish to pay for something that chrylser should be held accountable for! i request that nhtsa investigates this problem as this is a manufacturer defect!

Between speeds of 50-55 mph, vehicle's steering wheel will shimmy and or vibrate.additionally, once vehicle's brakes are applied, vehicle's steering wheel will shake erratically.manufacturer has been contacted and given 7 repair attempts.unfortunatley, defect still remains and vehicle is currently undergoing state arbitration program.

Atspeeds between50mph and 60mph, front end of vehicle and steeling wheel shakes violently. Have changed tires, brakes, hadtires balanced, and front end aligned. The cause is thought to suspension or bearing according to all mechanics that look and drive it. No one knows for sure, only that the mechanics say that this year cherokee, is known for this, and they have all said there is noknown investigation about this danger in progress. From what i have read at this site alone, i am curious as to why there is no investigation regarding this problem with the front end...

Vehiclehas been vibrating since purchase. Taken to dealer 4 - 5 times. Dealer replaced rims and tires. Problemnot resolved.

Whenever vehicle goes over a bump it shimmies and is very hard to steer. Please provide any further information.

When the vehicle was delivered it pulled dangerously to the right.the vehicle was changed to a right hand drive by chrysler for post office delivery use before delivery to the owner.it was driven 249 miles by anb employee of the dealer before delivery.the problem should have been aparent to them at that time.the dealer has snt the vehicle out for alignment three times to attempt alignment.they have not been able to get it properly aligned.the dealer will try to get it aligned again, but they will not do any work on the vehicle to really fix the problem.the dealer sent the owner out to get new tires, but they would not pay for them.the vehicle is still out of alignment and it does not steer properly.the dealer does not want to take any more action to fix it.the daeler claims that chrysler is nonresponsive to the problem.

Consumer states while driving at any speed, if vehicle hits the sligtest bump in the road , a massive vibration is felt in the front end, enough to lose control of vehicle, vibration is worst at speeds above 55mph.contacted dealer cannot fixproblem.nlm

While driving vehilce at any speed above 50 mph steering wheel shakes violently when brakes are applied vehicle pulls to the right and proceeds to shakes until you are below 50 mph and have removed your foot from brakes. Sometimes it is so bad you have to grip the steering wheel exmtremely tight to try and avoid losing control of vehicle.

Vehicle has a "wobble" in the front end at speeds from 51mph up.the following components have been replaced and the problem still exists.front stabilizer shock, all four tires (twice) all four rims-wheels, both axles, and numerous attempts to correctly align the tires.the problem developed immediately upon purchase and was serviced within one week of delivery.i moved last year and the jeep dealer in staunton, va. Stated that the jeep engineers are aware of the problem and are trying to figure it out.this is the same thing i was told almost one year ago and they still don't know what the problem is.i attempted to handle this through arbitration, however, as i travel a lot, jeep told me my vehicle was out of the original factory warrenty and even though i purchased the six-year, 100,000 mile extended warranty, they denied any claim i may have against jeep.i am concerned that the continuous wobbling will not only speed up tire wear, but other components may vibrate loose.

At 50-55 mph vehicle shimmies, went to arbitration, tires were exchanged, no change.the dealer and the manufacturer could not find the cause for shimming and the vehicle cannot be safe to drive.

Going 40 mph frontend bounces,&putting on brakes,it bounces.

Repeated passenger balljoint failure on 2000 jeep cherokee sport. According to multiple sources including owners and jeep dealer repair staff, this is a regular and repeated problem in 1999 and 2000 model year cherokees equipped with the 4.0l engine and part time 4 wheel drive. Balljoint originally replaced at 10,950 miles under warranty (replacing dealerira jeep, no cost.). Balljoint has failed again. Have been unable to get a weekend appointment at dealer. Symptoms of failure coincide with reports on file with the nhtsa - steering wheel and/or front end 'shimmy' or vibration at highway speeds, pulling or pushing left or right under acceleration, difficulty in making left or right turns (lack of feedback from wheels, car attempts to pull opposite direction).i would respectfully request on the behalf of all jeep owners (this is a 4 hour repair, requiring the vehicle to typically remain at the dealer for one full day) that the nhtsa further investigate these failures, as i suspect a manufacturing defect. These failures are, in my opinion, dangerous and can become life threatening should the balljoint(s) catastrophically fail. Daimler-chrysler/jeep have been excellent in reguards to repairing these problems, but these are problems that leave customers without their car for a minimum of several hours, and are easy to ignore for most consumers. Thank you.

While driving at any speed, the cherokee pulls to the right side of the road.dealership is not able to determine what is causing this problem.the steering gear box was replaced, along with new ball joints. The problem still exists.*ml

When making left turns steering wheel become very stiff. Took vehicle todealership, and was informed by the mechanic that wrong front control arm was installed, and would need to be replaced with the correct control arm.

Jeep drifts from side-to-side with no effort by driver, told the ball joints are defective, but wont replace.

Vehicle had been parked for about 3 minutes and smoke started coming from hood. This was due to the wiring under the hood catching on fire. Consumer complains of the steering wheel having a slight shimmy, goodyear wranger rt/s tires (p225 75 r15) have been rotated and balanced and the problems still occurs, the shimmy could be due to a suspension problem or tire problem.

Right hand vehicle; consumer bought vehicle to deliver mail. Spare tirewas mounted on left side instead ofright side, causing a blind spotwhen pulling onto road.

This is a right hand drive jeep cherokee.the spare tire is mounted on the left hand side causing a visibility problem that is a severe safety hazard when pulling onto the road.the spare tire was mounted on the right hand side in the 1995-1998 right hand drive cherokee models, but then for some reason was mounted on the left in the 1999 and 2000 models.dealer refused to remount the tire on the right hand side, saying there was no way to do this.

Consumer purchased right hand driver vehicle for delivering.spare tire is on the left hand side & completely blocks vision.consumerhas contacted chryslerto suggest thatbe looked at & changed.

All tread worn off right front tire after 5500 miles and tire goes flat.jeep dealer and goodyear tire dealer say alignment ok. Goodyear says possible wheel bearing failure causing tire to drag. Jeep will not inspect bearing. After 2 hrs driving at 25mph cannot steer car, braking causes stearing wheel to vibrate, touching lug nuts will burn finger, hub and brake rotor hot.( dot number: )

While driving about 65 mph right rear tire had a blowout and a tread separation. Goodyear tire, no dot number or tire size.

While traveling at 40-45 mph vehicle commenced to vibrate/shook, followed by engine check light coming on, and then vehicle lost power. Dealer notified, and had vehicle towed into shop. Informed consumer that the electronic control module had failed and needs replacement. Provide further details.

Consumer's foot was on brake and upon taking foot off the brake, vehicle lunged forward.vehicle can easily hit someone or someone's vehicle.the second time the vehicle lunged forward, there was a crash, one person was injured and there was damage to the vehicle.

My daughter had just left the driveway and was driving approximately 20-25 miles an hour when her accelerator dropped to the floor.she made it to a parking lot where there are now black rubber circles all over from her trying to stop by braking.she finally got it stopped and we had it towed to a garage.they informed me that it was the throttle body and that jeep had them on backorder for at least 2 weeks.my boyfriend who owns a garage out of state confirmed this.i couldn't wait 2 weeks for what was probably another bad part, since jeep said that they haven't ever redesigned this part.instead, i paid $506.79 for an aftermarket throttle body.how is it possible that a part is on backorder for 2 weeks, yet no one is saying that there is a problem with it?my daughter is 18 and not an experienced driver.the vehicle was completely out of her control.she was terrified by this.we live in a high traffic area so it's amazing that she didn't hit someone.i have kept this original throttle body.upon looking at it, i realized that your life is at the mercy of a spring.a spring that over time becomes worn out and fails.i'm no engineer, but there has to be a better way to make these.

Braking at highway speed causes violent shimmy and causes the vehicle to lurch to the left or right.dealer told me it was the brake rotors warped.they are not covered past 12mo/12kmile warranty.this is a serious safety concern and should be recalled and covered under warranty.

While brakingin stop and go traffic, veh suddenly accelerated, placed brake pedal to floor whichcancelled forward motion, causing rear tires to smoke/sqealand veh to move sideways, eng continuied to rev. Placed transmission into neutral which cancelled theeng accelerations.

While driving about 45mph and exiting onto freeway accelerator stuck to floor . Consumer had to pull on side of freeway, and jam on brakes to stop vehicle. Contacted dealer, and no response yet.

The horn and cruise control did not work. But the air bag light was on.the defects were reported to the manufacturer, and they stated there were no other complaints on this vehicle.

Engine was experiencinghigh acceleration whenevervehicle would come to a stop, dealer was notified, and replacefengine fan. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Vehicle is used for a security company.employee drivingvehicle was going up hill about 5-10 mph and it fully accelerated.employee gained control before going over an embankment.

Suv's heater/ac malfunctioned so that there is no heat. There is ac, but no defrost is available. The part broke and the heater has not been functioning since. I am still trying to fix the problem. I bought an auxiliary heater to defrost the driver's side windshield.

There were no events leading up to the failure.all of a sudden the a/c stopped blowing cold air.turns out the air is blowing cold air up to the blend door.the problem is the blend door.

Blend door failure, heater core failure.

200 jeep cherokee sport blend door failure causes heat and ac to stop working.

The jeep window regulator is a known issue and mine has broke twice in one week. I have a 2000 jeep cherokee and it is in the shop to have the third window regulator installed.this is a constant issue with jeeps and should have a recall issued and fix the problem.have been to several question and answer sites on the internet and jeep will not acknowledge there is a problem.

About a year ago both of my front power windows quit working on my 2000 jeep cherokee sport within weeks of each other.i have talked about this with several other people who own cherokees and they too have had the same problem.my concern is that if i were were in an accident that forced my car to be submerged in a body of water i would have to wait until the entire cabin filled with water before i could attempt any escape.my mother who owns a nissan xterra also had the same problem but last month nissan issued a recall and all 4 of her windows were replaced.

Both front door windows do not operate up and down due to the cheap plastic peice that hold the window on the track, poor quality .nothing was done by danbury dodge in conn.

Door and windshield wont work properly. Dealer stated the need to replace the electrical harness. Vehicle's warrantyexpired.

Rotors has been replaced 3 times wheels have been replaced 3 times and tires are going to be replace finally (tiresize: p22575r15)( dot number:tire size: p22575r15 )

Chrysler put steering wheels on the passenger side for post office use. Also, when driving vehicle wouldnot steer properly. The vehicle pulled to the right.tire wearing due to poor alignment.

Stock steel wheels 15x7 rims rot and cause air leaks which can cause blowout. Loss of air in tire gave me blow out.

I had a passenger side rear flat tire after leaving my jeep at an airport parking lot.i put on spare and next day tried to find what punctured my tire only to discover that the rim had rusted through and the air was leaking through the rusted steel. I bought a new matching rim and put tire back on jeep.three months later, same problem on drivers side rear wheel, air leaking through rusted rim. I replaced that rim and noticed rust on both front rims. Knowing it was only a matter of time i replaced them as well. I have owned many cars in my life, i have been driving for almost 50 years, and i never had a rim rust through causing air to escape. I looked at the rims and discovered the cause. Because of the way the rims are designed, whenever it rains, or there is slush on the road or when the jeep is washed there is always a small quantity of water that gets trapped and settles on the bottom of rim when the vehicle is parked. There is nowhere for the water to drain. Now if that water also contains dissolved road salt and the vehicle is stationary for days it is only accelerating the deterioration. Even after driving for a few miles the centrifugal force holds the water in place and again returns to rest on the bottom of rim once parked. I realize it is an older vehicle with high mileage, but this is a design flaw no wheels should rust out like this, and perhaps owners of similar jeeps will check out their wheels and replace rims before they wind up stuck someplace with a flat tire.
