The contact's daughter owned a 1999 jeep cherokee. While the contact's daughter was driving approximately 40 mph, another vehicle crashed into the front of the contact's vehicle. The passenger side air bag deployed, but the driver's side air bag failed to deploy. As a result, the contact's daughter sustained injuries to the left eye, laceration of the nose, a broken jaw, the front teeth shifted, and black eyes. Medical attention was required. The driver of the other vehicle passed away as a result of the crash. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an impound and destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

I found only general information that our 1999 jeep cherokee had two recalls. It is twenty years old and i would like to find out more about the recalls. We are most concerned to learn that there was an air bag recall sometime in the past. We have owned it since 2003 and never received a recall. The info said it was a nhtsa recall #00v105000.the other recall says it's an after-market fuel pump air tex electric fuel pumps for 1999 ' 2004. Please send us any information on this and what we can do about it, if anything. Thank you

Passenger air bag went off while driving down the road in my 1999 jeep cherokee chrysler investigated and said that nothing was wrong and won't do anything to repair. But i know there was something wrong because smoke came out of the air bag module and still smell burning wires dealership said that jeephad known recall that said was performedand never was found recall on your web site it said possible air bag light or air bag deployment do to corrosion and the module was supposed to be moved to transmission tunnel but never was done and you can see corrosion all over module. And chrysler would not say if it is safe to drive i would like to know what i should do this is a safety issue.

Consumer had a frontal impact collision that resulted in front driver's and passenger's airbags failing to deploy. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.

Driver's side seat frame broke. Seat wobbles back and forth. Obviously an unsafe situation being strapped into a seat that is not properly secured to vehicle. Will force of pushing brake pedal totally separate seat from vehicle? this is a major safety issue relative to passenger restraint (me) and braking or stopping of the vehicle(others). I have read where this is a common occurrence on jeeps of the same model and year as mine. Clearly, this is a manufacturing defect. I have never had a seat frame fail on any other vehicle that i have operated. This is not rust related. It is simply a failed vehicle weight reduction program that has blossomed into a full blown safety concern for both those in the vehicle and anyone else outside of the vehicle in its general proximity. Something needs to be done as vehicle owners will continue to operate these vehicles until the seat totally severs its compromised mounting and becomes totally detached from the vehicle. In the mean time, anyone in its path is at serious risk.

Consumer'sdaughter was traveling about 45 mph on the highwayanother vehicle was disabled on the right hand lane, consumer didn't see the vehicle and hit it.consumer'sknees buckled andface hit the steering wheel.also, consumer's teeth marks were inside the steering column.upon impact, frontal passenger's airbags didn't deploy.

No injury reported. Dealer/manufacturerwere not contacted at this time. Feel free to provide further details.

Vehicle was involed insudden acceleration while drivingon hwy at approximately 55 mph. No: 08-15-99subject: erratic, intermittent cluster operation/intermittent air bag warning light.date: may 21, 1999this bulletin supersedes technical service bulletin number 08-20-98 rev. A, dated october 2, 1998, which should be removed from your files and noted in the bound technical service bulletin book, publication number 81-699-99003. This is a complete revision to the procedure.overview:this bulletin involves installing a repair harness containing a revised instrument cluster connector.symptom/condition:some vehicles may exhibit an intermittent illumination of the air bag warning light or an intermittent tachometer or speedometer drop out. An airbag electronic control module (aecm) fault code -"no cluster ccd bus " message will be present.diagnosis:using the drb iii, read and record all active and stored fault codes in the aecm. This condition is caused by minor oxidation of the bus circuit terminals at the instrument cluster connector. Electrical terminals will show signs of oxidation, which will appear as darkened lines or marks on the cluster male terminals. These often appear as gray or black marks rather than the appearance of oxidation or corrosion usually associated with higher current carrying circuits. This condition will set a "no cluster ccd bus" message. The fault code will usually be stored and not active. This technical service bulletin will not address fuel or oil pressure gauge issues. If this fault code is present, either active or stored perform the repair procedure.this service bulletin is common with all jeeps.there are many jeep owners with this very problem.

Gas gauge fails periodically. Spoke to dealer, and was told if it is not broke don't fix it. Truck failed to start 4 days ago. Has it towed to local garage. I have been told i have a major electrical problem, but tech has not yet figured it out. Jeep only has 52,000 miles. Now mind you, since i have purchased this jeep in 1999, it has only been to a certified jeep dealer for all services. All recommended work has always been completed. This was the first time i brought it somewhere else, because i had to get it towed.

Insured hit brakes and there were no brakes, the vehicle went into ditch and caught fire, insured stated that prior electrical problems were not resolved. Claim number 47-420-794.

Fog light switch.went to the dealer to get another switch , i was toldthat the switch # had been changed and the it is $186.00 which includes wiring" i asked if the wiring is recalled he said " no"so i bought the switch for $45.00 and it seems to work.i was wondering if dodge knows that the wiring is bad? i have seen a jeep in the junk yard that has a dash fire starting in that area? your help is required for our safety & peace of mind!

Near miss rear end collision due to brake lights and turn signal lights working intermittently. At times either the turn signals left and right will not work or the left and right rear brake light lamp assemblies will not work.found a electrical grounding issue with left and right rear lamp assembly with regards to brake lights.with regards to the turn signals working intermittently problem unresolved. In addition, when vehicle is parked and locked at night the headlights and tail lamps come on and off for unknown reason.

Insured hit brakes and there were no brakes, the vehicle went into ditch and caught fire, insured stated that prior electrical problems were not resolved. Claim number 47-420-794.

The contact owns a 1999 jeep cherokee.the contact stated that the factory installed amplifier caught fire while driving 75 mph.he had to disconnect the battery to stop the sparks and flames coming from the amp.he also had to cut the wires that were connected to the amp and remove the fuse for the radio.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact feels that this is a safety issue because the amp is positioned underneath the rear passenger seat where the child safety seat is located.the current and failure mileages were 142,000.

The vehicle stalledand shut down without prior warning.dealer was aware of the problem. Ts gear shift selector light was inoperative.transmission shifted hard and slipped on acceleration.found wrong fluid in transmission.ignition cylinder loose.dealer advised this was normal.transmission banged when put in reverse.

Sunroof:in the full open position, between 30 & 50mph, with the side windows up, or partially open, a horriffic vibration is felt in the "cabin"which is irritating to the ears, vocal chords, is so bad, that the radio speakers seem like they are ready to break.dealer refuses to arrange a meeting with chrysler rep to discuss the problem, which i feel is attributed to a bad design, which jeep is calling "wind buffeting"in the owners manual, indicating they know there is this problem.the starter failed, and rocking the vehicle to a better spot on the starter allowed it to start, but vehicle is still sluggish starting at times, seeming as though the batter is weak.jeep will not replace starter until a total failure.brakes.. Bad vibration due to apparent warped rotors.these are being replaced on warranty without dispute, indicating that chrysler knows there is a problem with the rotors.this vehicle seems to be the "lemon of the fleet"only giving a maximum of 14.5mpg, highway, and less in city only, and does not idle smooth.

Chrysler knows they have evaporator failures due to inferior coils that last less than 4 years.they need to extend the warranty to cover this cost to the consumer.i will never buy another jeep cherokee.

The consumer noticed that the key can be removed without turning the ignition switch off.the key can be moved from any position and has caused battery failure many times.the vehicle could be started with any key, screw driver, etc.(this could be the reason why jeeps are easily stolen and insurance costs are high) *sc

While driving the check engine light and air bag light illuminated and all of the gaugesceased to work properly.the speedometer would go blank and all lights on the dash board would dim.the manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem. This would occur when the vehicle is going in different speeds.the problem begun with the airbag, followed by the odometer, tachometer, and the speedometer dropping to zero.then the check engine light would come on and "no bus" error message would appear on the odometer.sometimes the gas, battery, temperature, and oil pressure gauge would fail as well.the problem would last from anywhere up to forty minutes or more.corrosion was found where the harness plugs into the cluster.the vehicle had been to the dealer four times and still has not been repaired. *sc

The vehicle has had electrical problem since may 2001.the instrument panel wiring cluster has been replaced by the dealer.the vehicle is now having the same problem again.on 7/8/2003, the dealer told the consumer to sell the vehicle or trade it in.

Erratic, intermittent instrumentation cluster, failure (shut-down) while driving, including speedometer, oil pressure gauge, amp gauge, temperature gauge, odometer, gas gauge and tachometer gauge. Isolated occurrences without warning made it difficult to explain. Because of safety concerns this equipment failure as noted in company service bulletins (081599) should have been reported to the vehicle owners and repaired at chrysler expense.

Dealer replaced instrument panel cluster module and problm has reoccurred.taken back to the dealer, and informed consumer that a wire was founded broken and replaced it again. I have talked to various jeep cherokee owners and researched on the internet.this seems to be a very common problem with the 4.0 liter cherokee.i think it is a health related issue due to the fact the co2 gases are leaking out under the engine compartment and could enter into the interior of the vehicle.

The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. The vin was unavailable.

I own a 99 grand cherokee lareado every now and then the hazard lights, brake lights, and turn signals go out all at the same time. I checked fuses are all good, light bulbs new, and this problem still exist. Also the headlights are really foggy looking making it hard to see on dark roads.

While driving on a highway the posted speed limit, my vehicle started shaking uncontrolably and i had to get off the highway to stop the car so the shaking will stop. I have had a numberparts replaced such as the steering stabilizer, and the steering rod.

When we use our turn signals, the emergency flashers come on. The first time we took it in, the dealership found no problem. Then they changed a part which did not solve the problem. They claimed it was an " intermittent" problem and we had no recourse but to bring the vehicle in every time the part malfunctioned. Last night i was driving with three children in my vehicle on a two lane road in a rural area. As i prepared to turn left by turning on my turn signal i noticed a vehicle behind me travelling at about 50 mph. When i slowed to turn, the vehicle passed me on the left. Had i not been aware of this problem, there would have been a terrible accident. Is my jeep the only one that has this problem. I gave up on trying to have it fixed two years ago because i couldn't take my vehicle in to have it serviced every single day! i have not talked to the manufacturer and i don't know if the dealership did. I would hope that they let jeep know that there is a problem. My contact at the dealership is named angela. She was sympathetic but did nothing to solve my problem.

I was parked in my lot and a neighbor dropped a cigarette behind my 1999 jeep. There was ungodly gas smell and the puddle of gas that is leaking from tank ignited. I was luckily enough that i caught it at that time or it would have exploded. I just bought it and never smelled gas or thought the tank was leaking. I had to spenleaking. It is going to cost over 500 dollars for this to be fixed plus a tow bar. Please help me to see if jeep company is responsible due to recall.

Consumer complained about a fuel pump problem.it caused the vehicle to stall at different speeds.driver had to wait 5 or 6 minutes before vehicle would start up again. The fuel pump was changed 3 times.

The contact owns a 1999 jeep cherokee.while driving 45 mph, the vehicle began to stall.after a few minutes, the vehicle completely shut off without warning.the vehicle was taken to the shop for a diagnosis and the mechanic believed the cause of failure to be the fuel pump.the coil pack was previously replaced.the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnosis.he was informed of a recall for theintake manifold.the recall number was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 79,000.

I took the car to the dealer on thornton road called chrysler and they originally stopped the car from saying it had no gas on a full tank and reading 0mph when traveling 75 mph. Then months later the car began to read 0 gas after i filled up the tank. The gas reading is always wrong.

I took my 1999 jeep cherokee to a jeep dealership to determine a problem i was having with the gas gauge failing to register how much gas i had in my tank.i was charged $55.00 just to determine what the problem was.it was determined that i had a defective flotation sensor in the gas tank. The part is going to cost $124.00, not including labor.i expect the repair bill for this problem to be at least $200.00, not counting the $55.00 i've already paid just to diagnose the problem.the jeep has less than 52,000 miles on it, so i feel that this problem should not be occurring this soon.i've also found out that this seems to be a common problem in late model jeep cherokees, yet they have not been put on a recall list (at least, mine isn't on a recall list).i contacted the jeep (daimler/chrysler) headquarters to see if they would pay for the repairs, and they declined.the bottom line is that i feeli shouldn't have to pay to have this part replaced, especially since it seems to be a common problem with jeep cherokees.plus, this vehicle has too low of a mileage to be experiencing this problem.

Warranty replacement of transfer case due to hairline fracture during manufacturing within first 7,000 miles on car. At 37,000 miles fuel sensor failed. At 69,000 window regulator failed. I'm having more problems with my jeep grand cherokee with the fuel system, i have already replaced it (2) times looking for information on this. I have looked on the site and there is a recall on it since 2002 but i have never reseved anything on it. The recall says to contact local dealer on this matter and it will be taken care of for free. I need a paper to take with me on this matter. It also says it could catch fire if it is not taken care of!! can you please help me on this matter. I has go out again no fuel again!

Thank you

As my husband and i were on our way to a relatives last weekend, the passenger side window lowered on it's own. I tried to roll it up with the drivers control, and my husband tried with the passenger control ( which has never worked well) but the window just continued to go down. I had my son look at it and he took everything off including door panel, and speakers, but he was not familiar with jeep windows and could not determine how to fix it. In the meantime, i have checked out some websites on this problem and found out that this is an ongoing problem with jeeps. Now it is going to cost me between $250.00 and $600.00 to repair . Please do something about this so no one else will have such an unexpected expense.

Having trouble with the driver side locks.

Passenger's door doesn't open, andalarm system goes on and off intermittently.also, muffler system drags all the way down tofloor. Dealership is aware ofproblem.

While parked in the driveway, and after being driven for an hour, vehicle inadvertently caught on fire above the manifold. The fire smoldered and put itself out. Owner contacted the manufacturer, who sent an engineer to investigate. Owner was also told by the manufacturer that there was nothing they could do, and advised the owner to seek legal council. The technician replaced thecruise control cable, accelerator cable and hood latch cable.

Piston and springs are weak causing some parts of vehicle to fall on hands. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.consumer states the hood does not stay up as the hood springs or pistons were weak. The hood fell on hands while checking oil.

I was driving on expressway to work at 6am, in light traffic.hood suddenly flew up, blocking my vision, slammed against the roof of the jeep and folded.i slowed down and was able to pull of the road without hitting anything, or being hit by any other vehicles, in spite of severely impaired vision!we have contacted chrysler and had the vehicle repaired at the dealer.usaa (our insurance) has paid for all repairs with exception of the $250 deductable.the manufacturer is claiming "normal wear and tear".what would they be saying if there had been a fatality, which would have been certain during peak traffic.

While vehicle jumped out of gear, emergency brake did not hold vehicle while in reverse and moving.consumer had to reapply brakes to hold vehicle.please provide more information.

Since there is no catagory for this issue i had to put visibility/wiper in order to even submit this form. There is no catagory for the heating system which there are a lot of problems!!! the accuator doors regulating the heat to the inside of the vehicle are broken. I thought by replacing the motor which controls them it would fix it. No such luck the doors are broken and not only are they almost impossible to reach without pulling the entire dashboard and console, the cost for it will be around $1500 and that is absurd for a part which is less than $100. The labor will be about $1300 to get to it. What is wrong with these people can't they design a vehicle that can be worked on without taking it apart to a level which makes me want to junk the car!!they should have put something other than plastic to control the heat in the vehicle. Now it is the middle of january in new mexico and it is freezing. Thanks jeep, i paid a lot of money for this suv and i'll never buy another amreican car again!! i had to replace the transmission 2 years ago at the tune of $3500. I rarely go on a dirt road let alone drive fast or reckless. A transmission going out at 65,000 is absurd and poor design and manufacturing. This car is nickling and dimeing me to death!!

I drove my jeep to a home, parked in the driveway, left the car running about 5-10 minutes.as i was locking the door leaving the home i turned and saw the jeep going in reverse toward the road, i ran to the jeep to try and get in and control the jeep, i slipped under the vehicle and it ran over both my legs. It came to a complete stop about 30-50 feet after it ran me over.i was taken to the hospital, treated and released. I have not yet had the car looked at by a mechanic.

While driving and coming to a stop transmission will not shift down to low gear, and at times will completely shut down, cause unknown.dealer can not identify the cause of theproblem.please give any further details.

When shift into park, vehicle will lunge forward and then roll back on any level of road surface.please describe detail.

Clunking/garbling sounds resonating from the transmission/transfer case shift boxes. It occurs when the transmission is in any drive position(od, 3, or 1-2). The dealer didn't believe it was a problem when i voiced my concerned upon intial delivery of the vehicle. However, the sounds have become increasingly louder over the past several months.my 1988 jeep cherokee 4x4 didn't make these sounds, even after 197k miles.

Jeep lemon!!!terrible vehicle, terrible company!!this vehicle should be recalled immediately for these two issues, among others!i have almost rearended someone, by lookingback to see if i was rear ended due to the hard shift.the brakes shake so much under braking that i did rear end someone, however there was no noticable damage to either vehicle.

Crash - i rear ended another vehicle in my 1999 jeep cherokee sport.i was braking when the car suddenly accelerated, driving me into the vehicle in front of me.this has happened before, but only this time did it result in an accident.i took it to a certified jeep dealership and had the service department check it out.they said nothing is wrong with it.i am pretty nervous about this.i know how hard i was braking, and it just didn't matter.the car was working against me.i had to throw it into park just to stop the car.

Consumer states that while driving the vehicle will not shift gears. Had vehicle serviced, was infromed that the transmission was shot. This is a common problem, parts is back order.ts

Transfer case:constant raspy, grinding noise.

While traveling on highway applied brakes steering column shook and vibrated. Dealership was aware of problem. To correct the steering column shaking, the dealer machined and replaced front rotors and pads. But the problem was still not solved. The transfer case was leaking oil.

Transfer case failed, causing vehicle to stall while driving.vehicle checked by dealer, who replacedfront differential bearings, ando-rings infuel pump. Also, vehicle makes loud "roaring" noises, and is very difficult to control while driving.

Dt:the contact's husband placed the vehicle in park and then stepped out with the engine still running. After it had been sitting for awhile it began to roll backwards.the contact reached over to assure it was in park.when she was unable to stop the vehicle from the passenger side she alerted her husband with the horn.he came in through the passenger side door and reached over to assure it was in park as well.he then turned the ignition off and took the keys out.the vehicle stopped once it was in the road.the vehicle has not been to a mechanic for diagnosis and the manufacturer has not been contacted.

While backing out of the driveway, the driver placed the vehicle in park and got out.after getting out,the vehicle had gone into reverse, struck the driver and crashed into a neighbor's garage.the dealer was not able to determine the cause of the problem without tearing apart the automatic transmission.there were recalls for the 1993-1998 models. *scc

I am experiencing a problem where the my auto is idling in park and then lurches into reverse.i have contacted the dealership and they are treating me like what i describe is impossible and ignoring my complaint.i have a date scheduled for repair and its my guess the people at chrysler know that this is a major defect in the auto and are trying to sweep it under the carpet.also my transmission is dragging they acknowledged that problem and are to repair it soon.i wish i had never bought this death trap.i have also talked with several other jeep owners and most report some problems when the auto is in reverse.

Car was put into parking spot in front of apt building. Parksetting of auto transmission was engaged. Vehicle was left running. Parking brake was not engaged. Driver began to exit vehicle noticed vehicle was moving forward. Driver got back into drivers seat to attempt to stop vehicle. This parking spot has only a small curb in front of parking spot. Beyond the curb is a steep bank. Car proceeded over curb and as soon as front wheels went over curb car traveled down embankment, struck 2 vehicles and came to rest. Inoticed 2 1998 jeep cherokees have been reported to odi for same problem.vehicle had some visible damage but may be totalled for damage to frame.

Vehicle was parked and shift pawl was in park. Consumer went to the rear of vehicle to open rear liftgate, but shift pawl jumped into reverse. While moving consumer was able to to grab steering wheel and appliedemergency brakes, consumer was dragged, and sustained severe injuries.

On july 4, 2000, our 1999 jeep cherokee jumped from park into drive and covered approx. 40 feet before plummeting into a hole being dug for the foundation of our new home with our then 15-mo. Son inside.the jeep flipped onto its roof trapping our son (who had fallen asleep inside) upside down within inches of more than a foot of water that had collected at the bottom.fortunately we were able to rescue our son who was uninjured.the jeep was in park with the ac on full and was stationary for more than 15 minutes on level ground before jumping into drive.i have pictures of the jeep at the scene and the conditions prior to the accident, as well as a police report.i would like to help make sure no one ever has to experience something so horrifying (and potentially fatal) again.

The jeep was in park with the keys out of the ignition and my son who is five years of age accidently knocked the car out of park. It went into neutral and went down the driveway across the street and up in to my neighbor's yard and came back down the yard and was physically stopped by a neighbor before it hit our rural mailbox. Ther were approximately 20 children playing n the cul-de-sac. This all happened with my five year old son inside the vehicle. To repeat the keys were not in the vehicle, yet it could still be manuvered into gear accidently by a five year old. It was a miracle that no one was injured or killed due to the activity level of our street at the time.

During manufacturing of vehicle the shift park lock was not adjusted properly causing vehicle ignition key to stick in ignition when in park. Mjs

While in park vehicle jumped into reverse and accelerated.could have caused an accident. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.

Vehicle was idling in park while putting on seatbelt. Suddenlyand without any warning, vehicle shifted into reverse. Had to slam on brakes, hard to stop. In the process driver had injured his back due tojerking of the vehicle andbrakes being applied.

Consumer started vehicle, then had to get out of vehicle, left it in park with engine running, as he stepped out of vehicle, it started going backward. He was trapped between garage wall and driver door. He managed to get in to vehicle and shut off engine. Consumer suffered bruises. Damage unknown at this time, vehicle still at dealership.

While parked, the vehicle's transmission slipped out of gear, rolling down an incline and traveling about 500 feet before hitting a mailbox and coming ot rest on a neighbors front lawn.

Fog light shortage from the interior switch, rear left shock squeaks non stop at low speeds, loss of electrical power when a/c is on (hot or cold), grinding noise coming from rear axle when coming out of first gear, noisy dashboard when road is bumpy, small signs of rust starting to appear on exterior, font passenger window does not go up if put down by passenger, driver side window making noise.

Transfer case failed, causing vehicle to stall while driving.vehicle checked by dealer, who replacedfront differential bearings, ando-rings infuel pump. Also, vehicle makes loud "roaring" noises, and is very difficult to control while driving.

Abs brakes had to be replaced. Also, replacedfront brake rotors, and 4-wheel drive locking hubs.

The dealer said they have seen this problem in many wranglers with the same clutch and transmission.the throw-out bearing has rotated on the clutch fork and the fork has been pushed down over the throw-out bearing, causing the clutch slave to extend to the maximum, which causes the clutch not to be able to be depressed.therefore, i was driving down the street with a non-operational vehicle.this was a dangerous situation.

Consumer has problem with the differential, and will provide information on this issue.dealer notified.

While down shifting to second gearat 40 mph, the engineaccelerated at a higher rate.the consumer pulled over and had the vehicle towed.the consumer had taken the vehicle to aprivate mechanic and did not plan on contacting the jeep dealership about the problem.the cause was not determined.the vehicle was slowed down when the engine started revving, it was then switched to a lower gear and proceeded, then was placed back into drive in which it was slowed down and the engine started revving again in a lower gear but did not work.the vehicle would jerk and knock when placed in the engine when placed in park.(the u-joint failed) *scthe consumer was informed the vehicle needed an oxygen sensoe.

I own a 1991 jeep cherokee sp/cl 4 wd. When i take it out of 4wd it won't disingage unless i put it into reverse. The manual does not mention this. I drove for 20 miles in 4 wd without knowing it until i started to smell something. I called an auto repair shop and they told me to put it in reverse. I did and it worked.

While vehicle was parked consumer noticed power steering hose had rubbed through.every time wheel was turned it rubbed on power steering hose, next to exhaust manifold. Also had to replace transfer case. The power steering line is adjacent to universal joint on steering shaft, over time when steering wheel is turned, it will eventually wear through, this line is also near exhaust manifold which could cause a fire when steering fluid sprays onto a hot exhaust manifold, the replacement part has been redesigned to keep the line away from the steering shaft, consumer feels the dealer should be liable to replace the part since it is a design defect.

Warranty replacement of transfer case due to hairline fracture during manufacturing within first 7,000 miles on car. At 37,000 miles fuel sensor failed. At 69,000 window regulator failed. At 72,000 rear shock broke off car leaving bolts still in chassis. Very frustrated, chryster corp. Does not care!

While consumer was travelingina residential areadriver's seat belt came apart.the seat belt buckle released without depressing due to possible broken spring or other internal component.

Faulty gen 3 seatbelt installed on 1999 jeep cherokee

Seat belt latch and buckle does not function properly, it is very hard to buckle in and when trying to unbuckle, it takes a lot of force, time and very unsafe. If left unbuckled the dash light or alarm never comes on to buckle up. This happens at all times, doesn't matter if stationary or moving. The seat belt has malfunctioned and dealership is refusing to repair it unless an initial fee of $250 is paid with more repair fees are expected.

1999 jeep cherokee. Attorney writes on behalf of consumer who died in a crash related to seat belt and airbag issues *tgwthe decedent was driving on a clear day on a dry highway, when she suddenly hit a median and the vehicle rolled several times.according to the attending physician, the decedent was too small to be protected by the seat belt and shoulder harness and/or the air bags. The driver died from internal injuries caused by the seat belt /air bag not being properly designed to protect someone that small.

Seat belts need extenders.

Rear seat belt will not secure child restraint

While traveling about 65mph on highway without prior warning turned the vehicle right in order to straighten vehicle.when turning back towards the vehicle caused vehicle to flip six times. Dual airbags didn't deploy, andpassenger side seat belt broke.

Consumer was involved in an accident in which the vehicle flipped over, and the passenger's side rear occupant was ejected out the vehicledue toseat belt failure, killing the occupant of the seat. Insurance company still looking into the matter. Unsure if the vehiclewas totaled. Please provide any further details.

The front passenger seatbelt does not work without pulling at it for several minutes.nlm

Driver's seat belt was difficult to unlatch.dealer notified ,and appeared not willing to assist in this matter.

Seat belts.the seatbelt latch mechanism on this vehicle consist of a metal mechanism surrounded by a plastic cover.the plastic cover is poor fitting, allowing the seatbelt part to be inserted between the plastic cover and the mechanism, thereby not being fastened at all, and sometimes without realizing it until it comes apart as you drive.this is an ongoing problem which requires very careful insertion of seat belt part into mechanism, sometimes it takes several attempts to secure the seat belt.

Consumer states that driver's side seat belt does not unlock. Dealer notified.

Passenger restraints will not release from door post assembly thereby prohibiting their use.

Seatbelt could not be extended from retractor to allow use.

Rear seat belts do not allow for proper installation of child safety seat and are uncomfortable to passengers in the rear. Mjs

The rear drivers side seat belt will lock and not pull out this renders the belt useless. It does not matter if you pull easy or hard the belt will not pull out. In a day or two it will work fine. This has occurred 5 or 6 times in the last 12 months. With a 4 year old and a 6 year old in rear booster seats i find this very dangerous.

The driver's seat has broken and has become very wobbly and unstable. I drive the vehicle normal and i am not an obese person. The seat started out just making creaking noises, then it broke in one spot and has since broken in a second spot. After doing some extensive research i have found that there are a lot of people complaining about this, yet there is no recall. Price to fix is between $400-800 at a dealership. If i were to get in an accident with the seat in the condition it is in, i could have worse injuries than if the seat was how it should be. I think that due to the fact of how many people have this problem with the cherokee/grand cherokee, there needs to be a recall since it's a safety issue.

Drivers seat leather is splitting above the seat adjustment buttons; about 3 cracks on side of seat has not reached the part where the driver sits, is a jeep grand cherokee limited.

Driver's seat broken........happened about a week ago.........seat is now loose.

My speedometer does not work.i have had it fixed 2 times.then it. Stops working again.my drivers seat rail broke on my jeep and causes the seat to wobble all around.the seat are also broken in the same way on my 2000 jeep and my 1996 jeep too.what can be done.i have 4 chrysler products.3 jeeps have broken seats.2 of the 4 have electrical issues.what can be done.pleaselet me know.

Driver side seat broke.

I sat down in the driver's seat and leaned slightly back against the backrest and the seat broke where it attaches to its rails.upon inspection it was broken at three places on the frame of the chair itself.this could have been a major safety incident if it had happened while i was driving the vehicle.jeep should issue a safety recall as this is a substandard part.

I own a 1999 jeep cherokee sport and the drivers side seat frame broke. Upon bringing it to an auto body shop the employee told me when he ordered the part the parts store told him that they had a lot of them being ordered for that vehicle. I would like to find out if perhaps this should be a recall issue and if it is how to get reimbursed for the money i paid to have it fixed.*nlm

1999 jeep cherokee sport front seat frame has broken causing seat to shift forward and backward as you drive, notice frame has come loose from popping rivet. I have filed this complaint because i have noticed a number of people with the same problem and same car which would indicate a manufacture defect in the design of the seat frame.

1999 jeep cherokee sport driver seat broke.

The contact owns a 1999 jeep cherokee. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact had to make a sudden stop to avoid a collision. The contact stated that both the front driver and passenger side seats fractured. The contact stated that this was a recurring failure. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 340,000.

My 1999 jeep cherokee has a broken driver's seat pan.i was coming to a red light and i heard a snap sound.i went to investigate and noticed that the metal seat pan is cracked all around the where the bolt holds it in the seat track.now the seat rocks a little bit, and it's going to be a matter of time before the other corners crack due to the increased stress. I have not yet corrected the failure.but in order to do so, i will need a whole new seat.this is a safety issue because if these break, it will mean nothing is holding the seat in place.i know a lot of people in the jeep community that have the same problem with the seat pans breaking.

I was driving home from class today when i heard my seat pop. After that my seat became wobbly and unsecure. When i got home i went to check it out and the weld was ripped out causing the problem. What frightens me is i did not do anything unusual and if i got in an accident i could have been severely injured or worse.

Driver's seat broke.the metal that the seat is bolted to is too thin.luckily this happened in a parking lot and not on the highway.

Dt: the vehicle is a 1999 jeep cherokee laredo.the consumer stated the driver seat has broken.this occurred on june 20, 2005.the driver seat wobbles now.this occurred under regular vehicle usage.this is the only problem with the vehicle at this time.the consumer has contacted the dealership and states that they want 800 dollars to replace the seat.the consumer has not replaced the seat at this time.

No crash, no accidentthis is a complaint on safety and lack of availability to a "do it yourself" (diy) certified mechanic on brake bleeding. I am a certified aviation mechanic and well versed on bleeding brakes. On the jeep listed there is a requirement to use a scanner (the chrysler drb iii scan tool) which plugs into the obd-2 system to run the pump in the abs system. This running of the abs pump should move any air within, into the lines so that subsequent bleeding of the wheel lines will remove the air. The scanner cost is prohibitive for the diy mechanic and the owner is forced to take the vehicle to a dealer for proper bleeding of the brakes. Even a used scanner is valued at $3977 on ebay this date. There are various "tricks" to get the abs pump to run, such as a panic stop on a slick grassy surface and that will get the pump to run, but the brakes must be bled immediately to get the desired results, on the slick, grassy surface. This complaint is about the disservice to the mechanic in the field and the great safety issues that could arise with improperly bled brakes. Without the abs bled properly, the brakes are mushy and even after pumping, are not the brakes they should be for the safety of nearly a two ton vehicle. There should be an affordable scan tool that will do the job for the basic mechanic who wants to do their vehicle him/her self and those same folks shouldn't be forced to take the vehicle to the dealer just to achieve the proper safety standards.

I was at a stop sign, proceeded to accelerate, arriving at a stop-light when vehicle would not stop, brake pedal was pushed all the way to floor, pedal seemed to have no leverage to it. I coasted to a safe place to pull over, had to use emergency brake to stop.checked all fluids and pads, those components seemed to be fine. And had to get vehicle towed it was unsafe to drive.

The rear brake line (steel) not the rubber line failed while pulling the vehicle out of the garage.it was completely rotted through, despite routine maintenance (bleeding of old fluid) being performed.it was determined both the front and rear lines needed replacement due to severe rot.these should have been made out of a corrosion resistant metal.

The contact owns a 1999 jeep cherokee. While the vehicle was stationary, the brake lines became severely rusted and corroded. The dealer (cueter chrysler jeep dodge ram in ypsilanti, michigan) was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 223,827.

My brakes "fused" together, and i had to down shift quickly in order to stop. The auto repair shop said it was caused by faulty brake "knuckles", and that jeep is aware of the issue, but does not feel it is a safety issue. My children were in the car, and it's not a safety issue?

When the brakes were applied, the vehicle experienced extended stopping distance.

I have contacted jeep, and even though there is a recall on similar jeeps with similar problems, they refuse to take a look at my car without me paying for the diagnostics.

Absbrake light continue to stay on. When applying brakespedal goes to the floor.dealer contacted.please add vin.

Husband drove vehicle and noticed that the steering wheel was vibrating when brakes were applied.contacted the dealer, dealer stated vehicle was not covered under warranty.

Vehicle experiencing problem with vibration whenever brakes are applied. Dealer notified, and turned front rotors.problem stopped and reoccurred again at 3000 miles. Vehicle back at the dealer, and they are turning the rotors again.problem apperea again, and dealer replaced the rotors.

I would like to add that the brake disc problem that i've encountered hasn't been a failure.however, i'm very worried about these components on all jeeps.all of my friends have jeeps and do complain about the brakes.the brakes may not stop the vehicle, rotors warp constantly under normal driving conditions, and repairs/service issues are a hassle.i would hope that this is investigated before somebody is injured or killed.also, jasper jeep is the dealership that sold the jeep to me.they are great.it is nalley jeep in roswell ga that is giving me a hard time.they will no longer authorize "free repairs" to a faulty product.the number to that dealership is [xxx] and the address is [xxx], roswell ga 30076.thank you for your help.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

At 12,000 miles i noticed a slight vibration in the front of the vehicle, i called the dealer, but decided not to follow up and bring it in at that time.in mid may, i was traveling on the ma tpke, and upon braking noticed a pronounced vibration in the fron end of the vehicle.my dealer, who is very reliable, took the vehicle and found the front rotors and rear drums warped.at first they informed me that chrysler had chnged rotors without notifying them.upon their further examination they found that my jeep had the old parts and they replaced the rotors and drums.at 17,300 miles i noticed the same vibration in the front end when braking on i84 in ct.the dealer again inspected the rotors and found that they were defective.this time they will turn the rotors "on the vehicle"with chrysler's okay.while the work is under warranty i question whether this will be a permanent solution to the problem.my complaint is no way to be construed as against the dealer, in fact the dealer encouraged me to contact chrysler customer service, which i did.i have been informed by chrysler that a technical bulletin is out concerning the disc brake problem.i have seen complaints on the nhtsa site, of "minor" pulsation in the disc brakes, the pulsation on my vehicle was very pronounced and in fact the vehicle was shaking.i question if a recall is in order.thank you.

Called dealer back in approx.april,2000,car had 16,000 miles at that time . We were told the rotors needed to be cutand that it wasn't under our waranty. We had them cut and new pads put on. Tha car now has 30,000 milesand is pulsating and the wheel shakeaspearelly bad when the brakes are applied at about 50 .mph.asked dealer about recall and they won't fix problem.we got snubbed once, but won't let it happen again....please help!!!rwrra.

While traveling at 35mph and applying the brakes, vehicle shakes and vibrates.

As in the technical bulletin the brakes are very poor and pulsating.at 12000 to 14000 the first time, if you are going xway speed and tried to stop the car vibrated very bad.i took the car in and they said there was a bulletin to replace the rotors.that was done, the car was ok until another 12000 miles.same problem.the dealer replaced the rotors again. As a " good customer benifit"i know i will have to go thru this again.after 2000 miles the brakes are pulsing again.i have a '97 passport with 75000 miles and still have the origonal brakes.this is my wifes , there is no hi speed starting and stopping.i think this will be a safty problem in the future or at least an expensive one every 12000 to 14000 miles.

This vehicle has had two sets of brakes since new, 60,000 miles ago. At approximately 30,000 miles the front disc brake calipher warps causing vibration and shimmying of front of vehicle to the point of "near loss of control". There is a "service bulletin" out from chrysler to change the brake assembly when customers come in with this problem. However, the customer must pay $425.00 for this component. If the component must be replaced. There should be no cost replacement. However, chrysler and the dealer refuse to accept this position. Can you help???ts

A day after a good rain when vehicle is first in motion (even in dry driving conditions) even at 5mph any pressure on the brake pedal results in the brakes locking up.i have consulted with the dealer and various mechanics and they think a film of rust is building on the discs, and said i must warm the brakes up?this doesn't seem like a logical answer, why should one have to warm the brakes.is this a design flaw?

When braking from above 45mph, vehicle/steering wheel/pedal vibrates so excesively that it isdangerousand hard to control.dealer has worked on this problem 5 times and repairs only lasts forapprox 6 months.

Every 10,000-15,000 miles rotors will warp, causing vehicle to violently shake when applying brakes at a high rate of speed.

Brake problems - rotors/calipers and wheel cylinders - all needed to be replaced.

Both rearcylinders had to be replaced twice within a month. Dealer notified, and kept replacingcylinders.unable to locate cause of problem.

1999 jeep cherokee - rear brakes occasionally lock up during/after wet weather. Not speed related. Rear brake cylinders replaced at 35k miles and 70k miles (june 2003). Remedy is to slowly pump brakes when stopping until locking-up no longer occurs.

My 1999 jeep cherokee shakes violently at speeds over 50 mph when i hit a slight unevenness in the road.i've had my jeep inspected by a jeep dealer, paid to repair the problem, and it still remains.this is a well-documented, repeated issue, that i, and many others have experienced, driving jeeps.it's been reported on by both abc news (http://abc7news.com/archive/8768540/) and fox news (http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2012/07/09/what-need-to-know-about-jeep-death-wobble/) and acknowledged by chrysler in a technical service bulletin.i went to my local jeep dealership, chrysler technical service bulletin in-hand, spent $1,000 to replace my entire steering system at their behest to correct what they claimed was causing the violent shaking i experienced when driving my jeep on the highway, only to find, post-repair, after hitting a minor seam on the highway at a speed of 52 mph, that the "death wobble" was worse than ever, and my jeep was totally unsafe to drive.the fact that no one has died yet from losing control when their jeep starts violently shaking while they're speeding down the highway (that we can prove) due to an obvious design flaw in these vehicles is a shameful reason for the nhtsa to dismiss this issue.i've been very lucky, so far that other drivers have noticed me rapidly reducing my speed in time to get out of my way.i've been lucky that road conditions allowed me to slow down or pull over.i've been lucky to be going slow enough to reduce my speed before i lost control.i've stopped driving on the highway, stopped driving long distances, and plan to trash my jeep as soon as possible, though i just invested $1,000 in its repair.is that right?

The contact owns a 1999 jeep cherokee. The contact stated while driving 50 mph, he felt the steering wheel shaking and the front end of the vehicle started vibrating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer stated that they had to replace the steering damper and the track bar. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 123,000.

While driving on a highway the posted speed limit, my vehicle started shaking uncontrolably and i had to get off the highway to stop the car so the shaking will stop. I have had a numberparts replaced such as the steering stabilizer, and the steering rod.

Almost100 repairs 4 1/2 years on a new leased 1999 jeep cherokee. 15 months remain on lease. Air condition repaired 5 times. Too many items to list here.

Consumer was sitting inparked vehicle with gear in park, and when trying to pull outofspace, steering was turning, but going anywhere.dealer never said why it broke, but any piece can break. That was why they have manufacturer'sguarantee.

I was driving at 50 mph and the vehicle started shaking violently and i had to slow down and pull over before the shaking would stop. Another time i was driving at 50 mph again and hit a small bump and the violent shaking again occurred. Again i had to slow down considerably before it stopped shaking. This is known as death wobble and chrysler knows it. They need to be held accountable for using cheap parts on jeeps.

Hit a bump or pot hole or a man cover at 45 mph and the car starts to shake and goes out of control. Almost been hit over 5 times because i have to slow down to stop the issue. Tires a new and i've been to the shop they say everything good for safety inspections but it's not good. If i would have known that jeep is just try to kill it's car drivers i won't have buy the thing.

My car hit a bump on the highway and the front end wobbled so badly that i had to pull off the road and stop."death wobble"

Steerings column has somtehing loose inside it. Can feel clunk in steering on initial acceleration, on broken pavement, and when coming to a stop.can also feel the clunk through the brake pedal.there is no doubt, something is loose in the column. I am concerned about vehicle being safe to drive.

Passenger's door doesn't open, andalarm system goes on and off intermittently.also, muffler system drags all the way down tofloor. Dealership is aware ofproblem.

When turning right the steering locks & you can't turn at low speeds.

The lower steering shaft failed and the steering gear was worn causing a catch in the steering wheel.nlm

I was traveling 65mph, and feel asleep at the wheel.i woke up in the ditch and tried to get back on the road because an approach was coming.i was almost able to do that, but then the vehicle started to roll.it rolled two and a half times.

Upon inspection of the engine compartment it was discovered that the power steering hose was badly worn from contact with the steering column, it appears that the radiator hose pressed the ower steering hose against the steering column joint.nlm

My 1999 jeep cherokee uni-body frame is so rusted out underneath it is a hazard too drive, there is nothing else wrong with it.

I have replaced the back clasp latch once driver door and passenger door pins and latches both doors 2x the cost of each is about $200 each.the back hatch doesn't stay up when cold so i have hit my head several times.the front and passenger door won't stay open when pins or mech that holds door open goes out so have been hit by door, or swings too far and has damaged outside front wheel panel.the pins and door mech on both the front and passenger and one of the back door is out again.i feel thatis a defect, however i called chrysler and filed a complaint they have done nothing this is on my 1999 jeep cherokee and also on my husbands 1998 jeep cherokee he has driver door and back hatch door.

Fuel gauge reads empty when tank is full, dealer cannot find problem.will drive for about 30 miles and then fuel tank will read what it is supposed to. While driving in normal weather conditionsvehicle pulls to the right, consumer indicates that vehicle cannot be aligned.could not be aligned because of a defective eccentric ball joint. *ml

I have a 99 jeep cherokee sport.the front end becomes uncontrollable at highway speeds when driven on anything less than perfectly smooth flat roadway surface.applying the brakes makes the front end shimmy horrible and dangerous.you must slow to regain control, also dangerous on highways.online research shows this is a common flawwith jeeps that have a coil-sprung front suspension with a track bar or panhard bar, referred to death wobble.this is very dangerous!

Consumer has had many sets of tires, may be due to alignment problems.

Rear axle makes noises.independent mechanic confirmed that exterior bearings or rear differential needs to be replaced.dealer was informed and had no explanation for where the problem comes from.noise is heard while driving and accelrating.the noise increases with the speed of the vehicle.vehicle also needs rear brake work, the serpentine belt is cracked, and the head gasket is leaking.*jg

My 1999 jeep cherokee sport 4dr automatic has stalled while driving 6 times in the last few months. Most times in heavy traffic, with one time while i was on a highway on ramp. Usually it restarts after a period of 2 minutes to 12 hours. I did have to have it towed once as it would not restart.i have had it into the repair shop 3 times and the computer scan continually shows no problems. My mechanic replaced the ignition control module at my insistence even though he wasn't sure that was the problem. It wasn't, as it happened again a few days ago in the middle of the night. I had no cell phone and had to walk 4 miles to get home. After research online i see it is a problem with many years, makes and models of jeeps and yet no solution can be found anywhere. I called jeep customer service and they said they can't do anything for me unless i take it to a jeep dealer, which i can't afford. Obviously there is an issue and i was hoping to find an answer with your help.

So i am unable to have my vehicle inspected due to lack of parts.

Dt: during operation of vehicle at highway speed at approximately 65 mph the power windows acted erratically, and subsequently dropped into the door.drivers side window was open.took to vehiclea mechanic, where consumer was told that both motors were faulty/corroded,and poorly designed.theyneeded to be replaced.both motors were replaced for over $500.00this was a fairly new vehicle.owner felt this should not had happened. Owner was concerned thatthis occurred athigh speed. No problems with windows since motors were replaced.

While driving down highway, drivers side front window lowered completely on its own. Window motor still works, but will not raise that window or lower it.

Both driver and passenger front window glass has unexpectedly fallen into door.was advised by dealer that this was a rare occurrence and they have fixed one side under warranty and the other will be repaired next week.both occurrences occured at speed and suddenly.was advised that the windows are held by plastic clips that failed.this is very dangerous and an obvious problem that should be recalled and replaced with proper fasteners for an suv type vehicle.

While in motion, the drivers side window suddenly dropped into the door.the regualtor had worn and broke. *jgts

Driver's and passenger's windows intermittently were dropping off the track while traveling.dealer was notified and repaired passenger's side.later on, problem reoccurred ondriver's side. Dealer notified, and appointment given.

Severe vibration was detected coming from the front end, correct rotors.passenager power windows will not operate with out messing with the window lock button, the problem is intermittent.

While drivingelectrical system malfunctioned.windows would not come down. Please provide any further information, andvehicle identification number.

Both front power windows failed within 6 weeks of each other.the windows fell into the doors without warning.the first was fixed with the replacement of the worm gear drive and regulator assembly, the 2nd just occurred yesterday but is the same repair.

Plastic clip on window regulator failed while vehicle in motion.window fell into door & startled driver at highway speed almost causing accident.new unit from dealer has been redesigned w/ metal component but no recall on obvious problem/safety defect. *nlm

The driverside and passenger side windows slid down into the door. There was popping noise prior to the incident.this was caused by a plastic part in the door regulator breaking.

Window regulators---driver's window fell in the driver's door while vehicle was parked & unoccupied--metal gearhad worn the plastic teeth down causing the window to fall into the door---the passenger front window fell at result of the window regulator also failed for the same reason

The design of the power window regulator motor assembly appears to be flawed.there is a small plastic "clip" that is heat melted to the nylon movement assembly during manufacturing.this clip receives a great deal of stress during window operation and is doomed to fail from the beginning.when the clip fails, the window will "unexpectantly" drop into the door often resulting in broken or damaged glass.this could result in an accident if a driver is not prepared for this failure.

While driving, passenger side window completely fell into door. Power window motor still appeared to work, but the window wouldn't rise. Brought to dealership for repair and was notified that regulator was broken and needed to be replaced.

Vehicle has been in shop for rough idle, pulls to the right, replaced passenger side rear window motor, replaced drivers side window motor, front rotors replaced at 9300 miles, transmission fluid leaks, vehicle rides like a chevette over bumps and makes creaking noises in front end, sounds like tires will fall off when on rough road, dealer says everything is fine, but it is not.has the worst ride than any other car i have ever had.vehicle makes horrible klunking noise when shifted from park to reverse.sounds like transmission is going to fall on ground.vehicle jumps into gears.on 7/30/99, i had started the vehicle and was standing behind vehicle when it jumped out of park to reverse and proceeded to throw me under the vehicle and then rolled over my legs.

The driver and passenger windows failed, which was caused by an inoperative regulator.

Power assisted windows failed and needed to be replaced fordriver and passenger side doors. Dealership has replacedregulator for the power windows.please provide any additional information/attachments.

Consumer stated that while driving at any speed and without warning the front or rear windows would fail and stick in the seal causing a distraction to the consumer. Dealer notified. Ts

The defroster failed, as a result, visibility was impaired. The consumer stated the defrosted failed seven times since the vehicle was purchased. The air bag control module was replaced, the right front window did not work.

The left front power window is inoperative.nlm

Power windows stop working, this time everything on the driver's door not working (windows, locks, rear view mirror adjustment); this is the third time, has gone back and forth between passenger side and driver side.

Dt: contact states the left rearview mirror is discolored to a rust color and fogging up.the contact thought it was a fingerprint he tried to wipe it off, but it would not come off.the service dealer will not repair the mirror due to the mileage on the vehicle.

Power windows stop working, this time everything on the driver's door not working (windows, locks, rear view mirror adjustment); this is the third time, has gone back and forth between passenger side and driver side.

The vehicle's interior rear view mirror became detached from the windshield.the consumer and the dealer have had to re-glue the rear view mirror.*tc

The main belt in the engine compartment broke twice, causing vehicle to stall unexpectedly, and resulting in a crash.dealer could not determine the cause of theproblem.also problems with the windows.

Window blade fell of front shield due to a clip being improperly installed, three months later the window regulator failed, causing window to fall. Nlm

The window in vehicle was repaired.*jg

The contact owns a 1999 jeep cherokee.while driving 35 mph, the vehicle would suddenly stall without warning.the contact would have to pull to the side of the road.the vehicle would occasionally restart.the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic and dealer.the vehicle has been repaired numerous times by local mechanics, but the failure stills persists.the contact noticed that the failure was identical to the one mentioned in nhtsa campaign id number 08v059000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer).the failure mileage was 65,000 and current mileage was 80,000.update 09/10/08 *cwupdated 09/15/08.

I was driving at 50 mph and the vehicle started shaking violently and i had to slow down and pull over before the shaking would stop. Another time i was driving at 50 mph again and hit a small bump and the violent shaking again occurred. Again i had to slow down considerably before it stopped shaking. This is known as death wobble and chrysler knows it. They need to be held accountable for using cheap parts on jeeps.

My 1999 jeep cherokee uni-body frame is so rusted out underneath it is a hazard too drive, there is nothing else wrong with it. Specifically, but not limited to, control arms are rusted out and detached and frame is so rusted they can not be reattached. It seems it is very common for jeep grand cherokee uni-body under carriage to rust out and become a hazard with control arms detaching and vehicle becoming unsafe to drive. This is predominantly a problem in northern part of us. However, these are vehicle people buy to drive on bad roads so they should not deteriorate and become a danger to drive. Chrysler should be required to recall these jeeps and weld in new frame rails and other support and reattach detached suspension and other necessary equipment.

Consumer states while driving 60mph the front left wheel came off. Causing a near accident.

While cleaningwheel consumer was turning the cloth in a circular motion with his hand.andlugs: nuts bolts started turning on their own . Bolts were comingloose ondriver's side wheel.
