This is my wife's car. Switch assembly actually caught fire. Talked to several jeep technicians-this is a regular occurrence. Confirmed with auto salvage yards that this part is regularly purchased as replacement for melted connectors.jeep technicians confirm this is the same part on all 1987-1996 jeep cherokees.i have in my possession 2 connectors showing fire/melting damage.this is serious enough that i think you should look into it.
While driving on expressway a child smelled gas.smoke started coming from under neath dashboard, and then flames, jeep bursted into flames before consumer could actually pull over.driver's leg was burned while trying to exit, also another driver noticed flames from under jeep.

3 motor mount bolts on passenger side broke off, causing engine to drop, caused leakage in cooling system.

Ongoing problem with oil leaking from camshaft seal unto plugs end. Consumer located a nhtsa recall campaign # 94v-132 000 concerning the same problem. But dealer/manufacturer informed confirmed consumer that vehicle was not part of recall. Seeking help and requesting addtional information concerning this matter.

The motor mount bolt broke three times (first time) i fixed it with the dealer riverdale chrysler jeep and the second time i fixed it in ocean avenue gas corp. And the third time i went to riverdale chrysler jeep and they said they couldn't fix it because it has to be welded. I went to the welding place (able welding place) and they stated this cannot be welded. You need another motor block, i returned it to the bank because the car is unsafe.

On 12 occasions between 11/24/98 and 12/23/98, the engine has shut down while on the highwayand on the roadway. The electrical system however isn't affected. The radio, lights, gauges, etc continue to work. On several occasions while driving at highway speeds the engine has stopped for approximately 5 seconds and then started up again. On two occasions the engine has stopped and the vehicle has had to be towed to a mechanic/dealer. I have currently had the fuel pump, the fuel pump strainer, the fuel filter and the spark plug and coil wiring replaced (at the direction of my local dealer.) the problem still persists. Each time the vehicle was diagnosed and repaired i was assured that the problem was fixed. At this point i lack confidence in the vehicle. Even when the vehicle restarts itself after shuting down, there exists a serious safety concern for controling the vehicle.

Working 450 miles from my home i was going through an intersectioni heard an awful sound of metal clunking around in engine (loud).pulled into a repair shop and was informedthat i had a very bad exhaust leak.the rattling has stopped upon my arrival so he never heard it. Man informed me to take it slow on way home but get it looked at very soon.on my way back,the radiator fan started marking a noise like it was hitting something. Pulled over and saw that a bolt was ready to fall of the fan.tightened as best as i could &.also noticed that a bolt to the shroud missing.also saw that the fan blades has sheared off the bottom of the shroud. Cut was fresh. Now the fan was still hitting the shroud but only when i accelerated for take off. Next day, jeep running loud & rough.upon returning home, mechanic crawled under and immediately could see that there was a problem with the right motor mount.he then looked at the engine and noticed that it was not sitting level.conclusions were formed that due to the engine dropping from 3 bolts shearing off the right mount (only one bolt remained!), everything had started to malfunction.the exhaust leak was due to the shifting of the engine.also, brakes were starting to fail.fan hitting due to the engine shift.will inform you of the actual necessary repairs as i am made aware of the extent of the damage.this appears to be a very serious and potentially dangerous situation and i cannot believe that there has not been a recall on this.my jeep has 121,000 miles on it.1994 jeep cherokee country sport 2 door.i never go off-roading and my jeep is used to transport me to work.all highway driving except some city roads.after reviewing other comnsumer complaints on your website, it is very apparent that this problem is a defect from the chrysler corp.what is being done to remedy this situation?
Vehicle was consuming a lot of oil.oil was leaking out and going through the exhaust system, per several mechanics.
The exhaust system runs underneath floorboard on passenger's side. When vehicle was in motion, the floorboard overheated & rusted. Was informed by private mechanic about rust problem. Took vehicle to dealership & mechanic refused to look at exhaust system & floor board.

Air conditioner was turned on and would work fine for a second. Then it would blow out hot air. Dealer contacted, and stated the vehicle was not under warranty. Consumer would have to repair at $600.00 expense.

Last year the nhtb issued a recall for the 1994 jeep grand cherokee's issue with the gas tank placement. It was stated each effected jeep would receive a notification from chrysler to install a trailer hitch in the back of the vehicle to prevent the gas tank from erupting. Each time i call chrysler/jeep at the 1-800 number, i receive "the parts are on order as well as there is a shortage of parts". This has gone on for 11 months now with no resolution in site. How long is chrysler allowed to put off installing the trailer hitches on the vehicles? i purchased a new wrangler in april 14 without a trailer hitch and requested one be put on and within a month the dealership installed the hitch. So is there really a shortage? i drive the grand cherokee to work every day and would like to have the trailer hitch installed as soon as possible.it has been almost 12 months since the recall and i would like to have resolution now. Please let me how this issue is going to proceed and be resolved.

For at least a year now they have been trying to have you recall jeep grand cherokees years 1993-2004.they say there have been at least 64 deaths due to this defect.just yesterday, a family of 4 was out on a drive when they were rearended.the jeep burst into flames.the papers and news channels say the gas tank was in the wrong place and it just couldn't be stopped. The entire family,two children, ages 4 and 11, and the parents were killed in this accident.i myself drive a 2004 jeep grand cherokee and have had it checked out and my gas tank is in the back of the rear axle and not in front of it.i have 2 children, ages 7 and 12.please look into this matter and correct it as soon as possible.this is taking more and more lives and it doesn't have to be this way.recall the jeeps and make chrysler fix there mess up.

The parts to do the repair were not available. The contact stated that the parts were not provided by the manufacturer in a reasonable amount of time. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
After receiving the safety recall notice of the affected parts on my jeep, i contacted the manufacturer where i was told that i would be given a call back when the specific part came in. 3 months past and i received no call so i decided to call again and yet have to get a call back from the manufacturer. I would hope that if it was important enough to send me a recall notice it would be important enough to get the issue fixed.

Viscus coupler failure parts are a national backorder 3month waiting period. If this is not a safety recall i don't know what is? if this part should fail at a high rate of speed, loss of drivetrain, lockup of drivetrain could cause deadly accidents. How can they have a three month national backorder, without this being a major defect!

I work for the university of illinois parking department.we had an incident where a jeep cherokee was rolling out of a parking space. The vehicle transmission was in park.the vehicle was originally parked on a upsloped ramp, and then began to slowly roll back out of the parking space.the rollout was very gradual.i was able to stop the vehicle by placing bricks behind the tires.when the owner came to get his vehicle, i was unable to communicate with him since he spoke spanish.

Consumer got invehicle, turned iton and vehicle revved backward and it started spinning around. Vehicle was crashing into other vehicles.vehicle stopped on its own. Manufacturer sent an investigator to inspect, but no problem was found. Consumer states brake lock cable shifted.

The rear differential was leaking oil. Smelled smoke & pulled over. Got out of vehicle & checked. Noticed flames near rear. Moved away & it was engulfed in flames. Insurance inspector is looking at it. Fire department assumed it was in rear differential.
Vehicle was backed down driveway, stopped then shifted into first gear.driver heard popping noise, car would not move.after being towed to garage, dealer states that pinion gear in rear differential was broken, pinion gear was all shrapnel.because casing was broken, rear axle must be replaced.this major component should not have broken on a vehicle with only 31,000+ miles.
Was driving vehicle when the tire went flat. Placed the spare tire on vehicle, which was p22570r/15. The other 3 tires were 24570r/15. Thefront differential overheated & failed due to having a smaller tire on vehicle. Taking vehicle to dealer to check.

The transfer case on the 4 wheel drive unit makes a "creaking" noise after it has been driven for more than 20 miles.the noise is most evident on coming to a complete stop and then turning (either left or right) after about 20 miles.i have replaced the drive shaft universals and inspected the cv joint in an effort to solve this problem.i have also had the rear transfer case seal replaced, although it has been leaking fluid at a very slow rate since it was replaced by my mechanic.ihad two different mechanics inspect the problem and they are unable to isolate the problem other than it emanates from the area of the transfer case.the vehicle has less than 65,000 miles on it, a transfer case should not fail with mileage so low.

Mydriver'sside door started to sag/fall off in may of 1999. I contacted chrysler and they proceeded to weld it for me. It is sagging again. Of more concern, the passenger side door is falling off. I have a small child and am afraid for her safety. Wind rushes in while driving. Chrysler says you have to establish a recall before they will fix it again. I understand the cost to be around $700. After researching the web i have found 149 other complaints for this year. I have read that body shop personnel report they have never seen a 2-door jeep with the doors not falling off. I proceeded to open the drivers-side door one day, and the door just about fell off of the vehicle. I notified a local jeep dealer concerning this problem. In short, the staff said that this was the the 1st time they ever heard of a jeep cherokee door falling off. I've spoken to several people who also had jeep cherokees' and they also stated they had the same problem. The only "easy-fix" for me was to buy a different vehicle. I believe this is definitely a safety hazard on the 1994 jeep cherokee.

1994 jeep cherokee, door hinge manufacturing defect. There are two tsbs and a closed investigation concerning sagging door hing. My driver door upper hing sagging, weld is broken and now the hing plate is breaking away from the frame causing the door to sag and not close properly. Chrysler told me to take it to the dealer but that i would have to pay for the repair due to warrenty expiration. This is a known mfg defect. Shouldnt they be requiredto repair the failure?.

The doors are not substantially mounted to the body. The door hinges, ~3/8 inch thick, are welded to the sheet metal of the body. The sheet brittle fractures at each of the weld points. Last year the door broke loose. While i was getting into the jeep. I scrambled to get the rubber wire harness boot and wires disconnected, while my son held onto the outside door handle. The door broke loose, striking down across my right arm. The jagged edges of sheet snapped from the body struck my arm, puncturing two holes in the top of my forearm. My arm was momentarily pinned between the down falling door and the threshold of the body door opening. I suffered a contusion, a bruised blood vessel, tendons, muscle and bruised/fractured bone. Now a year later the passenger side door is breaking loose. When i talked to the jeep dealership, they denied any knowledge of such a defect or occurence with jeep doors falling off. The body shop the dealership directed me to for repairs, at my expense, says the door failure is common. The body shop says that they have repaired many of these occurrences themselves.

These tires haven't actually "failed" but they are absolutely the worst hydroplaning tires i have ever owned. At 40 mph on straight roads you feel like you're going to lose control. I bought a set to put on our jeep cherokee 2 weeks before the recall,although i didn't purchase the recalled size.
