The contact owns a 1993 jeep cherokee sport.the vehicle came equipped with a keyboard for a keyless entry system.the contact entered the vehicle with his wife and, as soon as the doors closed, they locked automatically.he and his wife attempted to unlock the doors, but were unsuccessful.the contact began to smell burning wires, but could not determine exactly where the smell originated.after 20 minutes of attempting to unlock the two front doors, they were able to unlock; however, the two rear doors still cannot be opened or unlocked.after the two front doors became unlocked, the contact noticed that none of the instrument panel gauges were working.the speedometer, odometer, amp gauge, and fuel gauge were all malfunctioning.the contact took the vehicle to a local shop and was informed that the keyboard for the keyless entry had shorted out and burned all the wiring in the vehicle.the vehicle has since been repaired.the failure mileage was 130,000 and current mileage was 131,000. My jeep's doors are falling off in the front at the hinges.the welds that hold the hinges to the frame are cracking. As for the suspension system it sometimes clunks when i go over a bump or turn a corner.i have had it looked at but they can not find what is wrong with it.the starting problem is not all the time most of the time it starts right up,but sometimes it won't start.i try it two or three times and then it starts.i have had the starter replaced and it still does it.

Had been in shop for 10 weeks, replaced computer, tried many sensor replacements to no avail, mechanic gave up, now at dealership where they can find nothing wrong (no computer code stored) when it is just running.they have not driven it on the road for fear of breaking down in traffic. Can not get it started again until it "cools down" oil pressure gauge reading very high (any correlation?) was an intermittent problem at first,( started last dec., bought it in nov) now chronic, with every drive. The last time i drove it, it was also starting off in third gear (automatic) although the computer replacement (remanufactured) seems to have fixed that, although i also had the transmission fluid and filter changed. (i had not experienced any transmission problems up to then) hood latch seems to have a problem and battery recently died, needing replacement.*la

Catalytic converter has no heat shield, resulting in excess heat and burn-off of undercoating which exposed floorpan to corrosion. As a result, a hole developed in the floorpan which allowed exhaust fumes and excess heat to enter the passenger compartment.

The contact owns a 1993 jeep cherokee sport. The contact stated that there was an overpowering odor of gasoline fuel from the exterior of the vehicle. The smell was most distinct when refueling the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the mechanic was unable to locate the failure. The failure persisted intermittently for approximately seventeen years and the vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics yet the failure was never duplicated. On one occasion, an independent mechanic discovered the fuel filter saturated with gasoline and the filter was replaced. The failure persisted and the vehicle was not repaired. I began to smell gasoline approxmately 2 months ago.i took my jeep to jim cogdill dodge.they could not locate the caus. After two trips there,they suggested that i take it to a jeep dealer.since i had purchased the vehicle at delmar haynes, i took it back to them.i have had the vehicle there four times now.the first visit, they made replacments to parts that cogdill felt were not necessary from there investigation earlier.i made the second trip.they looked at it for over 2 hours and could not find the problem.i had to have my vehicle for transportation.i left and decided to return back the next day.i asked them to cold start and see if they could see the problem that i had been describing.they found a fuel injector bad.that was replaced at a cost of 88.00, plus 60.00 for the rental car for two days.the parts had to be shipped in from atlanta.i drove the jeep and smelled odors but was advised that that would occur due to the maintaince that was performed.after a couple of days i began to smell the gasoline again.i put up with it for a week, and decided that i did not wantmy vehicle to catch on fire and cause loss of home and possibly body loss as well.i returned my jeep to delmar haynes on 1-12-00.i asked them to cold start it again and see if they could see the trouble.gut feeling on my part was the fuel injectors would all have to be replaced.bingo!!i got the called earlier today and that th the need f repair.at a cost of $88.00 per, you can see that i have paid quite a bit of money for the repair that has not been taken place on the earlier visits.i like my jeep.it is paid for and i do not want to have to go to the large expense of purchasing a new vehicle.i would appreciate any help or information that you can provide me in order to get the vehicle in safe running condition.delmar haynes has the vehicle at the present time.i have a loaner to drive andwas assured there would be no cost for labor or the car.

The o'ring thatseals the fuel sending unit on the tank assembly was installed incorrectly at the factory. When fuel tank is filled with gasoline it can drip once the level is over the sending unit which is situated on the front vertical edge oftank assembly. May cause fire.

Closed the latch on rear door lock to hook tie down for rear door.owner removed the hook, forgot to open the lock and closed the rear door causing the rear lock hatch to jam.rear door could not latch during remainder of trip.

Dt:the contact stated the hood latch did not work properly.this caused the hood to open.this was the second vehicle that the contact owned that had this problem.he took the vehicle to the dealership, and they stated the hood latch needed to be replaced and he will have to pay for the repairs himself.he did get parts from a salvage yard to temporarily fix it.

Hood: driving approximately 35mph safety latchon hood came loose and hood popped up.

Was pulling away from a stoplight/sign whenvehicle shifted into neutral from drive on its own. Vehicle would not move afterwards. Had taken vehicle to dealership, and had transmission rebuilt due to back shifting into another gear oninterstate whilegoing 65mph. Had no problem since it was rebuilt.

When vehicle is in park it would shift by itself into reverse. Lever does not move. Vehicle would then move backwards if foot is off brakes.

The vehicle was stopped and was put in park, the consumer exited the vehicle to lock the hubs to engage the vehicle into 4 wheel drive, after exiting the vehicle it jumped out of gear and rolled backwards down an embankment, the vehicle sustained extensive damage.

I purchased vehicle second hand in 1998....i was informed of a factory recall on my make/model of vehicle regarding the inhibitor switch....my local dealer make the necessary repairs at no cost to me....switch continued to give me intermittent problems but dealer could not duplicate...recently i left car with dealer who confirms defective inhibitor switch but claims no such recall and no such work performed... Claims they only changed "lockdown cable" under factory/government recall....your webpage doesn't confirm either recall... Would you please explain if there is a recall on either part and submit my complaint that a inhibitor switch (internal switch that allows to engage starter in neutral/park) should not fail on a vehicle within 5 years of manufacture date.

Dt: consumer's daughter was driving through walmart parking lot at a low speed and heard a loud noise coming from the front end of the vehicle, she slowly drove home about four miles.consumer inspected the vehicle after she arrived home and discovered the left driver's side lower control arm attachment point on the axle was detached by the weld.had towed to a firestone outlet that had performed service on the vehicle, replaced anti roll bar attachment points that had worn outapproximately one day prior.the service repair shop said they had never seen anything like this before.they noted there was no abuse of the vehicle or prior accident, the weld had simply failed.they could not repair this because of the liability issues, they did refer to a specialty welding shop and a jeep dealer, and they would not performservice as well for the same reasons.the only way to repair was to replace the entire front axle.no repairs have been made at this time.

While driving over a railroad track about 35-40 mph, heard a "cluck" noise on the right side which cause the power train box to shift to the right, and resulted in transmission not being able to go into 5th gear or reverse. Pushed the clutch in and it started right up,as vehicle started to back out of the driveway it just keep on going backwards, even when the clutch is push in, the only way to stop the vehicle is to shut off the motor, then its impossible to get it out of gear to restart.

The passenger door upper hinge had slowly become unattached to the body of the vehicle. There was never any rough usage of the door. The hinge now is completely unattached and the door is useless and cannot be opened for fear of it falling off. The driver door is just now showing signs of the same problem. This vehicle was well taken care of during its ownership. This is a manufacture defect that we need to take care of and simply cannot afford it. I hate to see my wife riding in the back seat. It isn't right. It's not our fault.

The hatch back door when open does not stay in the open position. The door will drop down slowly about a foot or 2. When jeep gets to running temperature (5-10 minutes) it will back and stall when you go to take off from a stop. Very dangerous when merging with traffic or at busy intersection. Had been in shop for 10 weeks, replaced computer, tried many sensor replacements to no avail, mechanic gave up, now at dealership where they can find nothing wrong (no computer code stored) when it is just running.they have not driven it on the road for fear of breaking down in traffic. My vehicle is experiencing the death wobble because of the oem steering and suspension components. I was driving down ronald reagan parkway in davenport, fl pulling a trailer and hit a minor bump pot hole in the road when my jeep started to exhibit the 'death wobble,' i was able to control it, but being on a two lane road and a truck next to me i was scared of an accident because of the wobble.

About week later while driving, got pulled over and receivedwarning about the tail lights beingout. Then it was taken back to dealer, who repaired the taillights. Also,the brake lights went out.owner tookvehicle to personal mechanic, who put in a switch, but owner didn't know what kind of switch.a week after purchase the vehicle began having brake problems. The brakes were squealing and grinding under normal braking conditions. The brakes were replaced. The vehicle had brake problems around 70,000 miles. The front brakes were vibrating again after about 2 weeks after repairs. There have been no more repairs at this time. Owner has not contacted jeep. There were no recalls.in february the oil plug came out. The vehicle was repaired by the owner's mechanic and the jeep dealership paidfor this.

Dt: consumer's daughter was driving through walmart parking lot at a low speed and heard a loud noise coming from the front end of the vehicle, she slowly drove home about four miles.consumer inspected the vehicle after she arrived home and discovered the left driver's side lower control arm attachment point on the axle was detached by the weld.had towed to a firestone outlet that had performed service on the vehicle, replaced anti roll bar attachment points that had worn outapproximately one day prior.the service repair shop said they had never seen anything like this before.they noted there was no abuse of the vehicle or prior accident, the weld had simply failed.they could not repair this because of the liability issues, they did refer to a specialty welding shop and a jeep dealer, and they would not performservice as well for the same reasons.the only way to repair was to replace the entire front axle.no repairs have been made at this time.

During annual state inspection, mechanic found a large area of corrosion, approximately 16 x 8 inch in floor pan above the catalytic converter. This area has a quarter size hole at the center of it, extending into the interior below the rear seat, which could allow exhaust fumes to enter the passenger compartment. The lack of a heat shield, which according to the dealer's parts department, did not exist for this model caused the undercoatingto melt and exposed the metal for corrosion.
