I have a 2004 x-type jaguar and the air bag light on the drivers side will not go off.i had it checked out only to find out that should i get in an accident the air bag will not deploy. The dealership wants around $1500.00 to repair it.i am hoping it is a recall.

Brakes failed going 70 mph on the freeway.absolutely no brakes and pedal went complete to floor without no stopping.used emergency brake and rear-ended car in front.no air bags went off.car speed was about 35-40mph at time of impact due to slowing from emergency brake.

I was involved in what ultimately could have been a catastrophic accident while driving my 2004 jaguar x-type. I was driving through an intersection at about 20 mph, when a 2006 chevy impala hit me doing about 50 mph. The impala slammed into my right front quarter panel and passenger door. Hitting me so hard my car tilted up into the air. (i thought i was going to roll,) when my car landed back on all four wheels, i was hit again in the right rear quarter panel. I was then pushed into a telephone pole. Almost dead center of my steering wheel. Needless to say, both cars were totaled due to massive damage. The only air bag that deployed was the passenger dash airbag. I was slammed into the steering wheel twice. The drivers airbag did not deploy. Neither did the passenger side airbag, despite being hit twice on the passenger side. If i had been an elderly or less physically fit person i very possibly could have been killed. I called jaguar for an explanation, and was repeatedly blown off.

I bought the 2004 jaguar x-type withapprox 48,000 miles. The entire time i've owned the car, the front passenger airbag light will turn on and off when an adult weighing less than 135lbs sits in the front seat. You can move and figet, and the "airbag off" life will turn off, only to intermittently turn on. This is a huge safety issue, as a lightweight adult in the front seat may not have airbag protection in a crash.jaguar said there was nothing wrong with the seat and sensor, and to adjust the seat differently until the "airbag off" life goes off. The point is that there is no guarantee that putting the seat in any particular position will result in a safe airbag deployment for a light weight adult.upon research, my x-type isn't the only one with this problem. If the airbag doesn't deploy, someone could be killed.

The passenger side air bag does not activate for a passenger with an approx. Weight of 100 to 135 pounds.we have brought the vehicle into jaguar and showed the service personnel that i, at 120pounds, while sitting in the seat, the air bag is not activated.i was told that i need to extend my legs to activate it.i have brought the car to jaguar on three different occasions, contacted jaguar corporate and was told that there is no defect.i explained my concern for legal ramifications should the air bag not deploy in the event of an accident and was again and again told there was nothing the dealership or corporate would do.

Passenger's side air bag continued to deactivate with a passenger in the seat, weighing only 92 lbs.warning light indicated that air bag was disabled , and stayed on constantly. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and manufacturer stated they will not alter the computer sensors for this problem.

The motor which unlocks the trunk does not work. The only method in which to unlock the trunk is by key switch and the motor is not working properly to open the trunk.

I signed a 36 month lease contract and took delivery of a 2004 jaguar x-type from jaguar of novi on 3/15/04.at approximately 6,700 miles/3 months, the car began to experience a problem where the vehicle, when traveling at speed, will go into safe mode which causes the car to lurch and surge until it can be driven to the shoulder to turn the vehicle off.once restarted, the check engine light will come on but occasionally, will not stay on.the car was towed to jaguar of novi where it was repairedsubsequent to this initial repair the vehicle has been taken back to the dealership, mostly via a tow truck a total of 14 times for the identical problem all of which are fully covered by the manufacturer warranty.i have taken legal action at this point and have signed an agreement for settlement under the consumer lemon law.the reason i am filing my complaint is this:my vehicle poses a safety issue.every time i am told by the dealership that my vehicle is repaired and ready to be picked up, i drive the car for 50 miles or less and the car goes into the safe mode and i am forced to abruptly get off the road or risk causing an accident.i continuously complained to the dealership, whose answer was, your vehicle is un-fixable.they state they can replace parts (which every time it is in, the parts list is numerous) but cannot pinpoint the problem, nor guarantee that the problem will not recur.at this point, i have picked up my vehicle, but am awaiting the date that jaguar cars will take my car back and settle my case.i am requesting that the issue be investigated, since i feel that my safety is compromised and they knowingly release my vehicle un-repaired.again, i am pursuing this case under the lemon law and would request that your investigation be performed in a manner that would not harm that case.

Transmission / engine car defaults to "limp home mode"

Defective braking system, brakes light will stay on at all times, there is no interval,or sign of the vehicle stopping. Have close to being rear ended by a another vehicle. This vehicle is not safe for us. This defect impairs the use, value and safety of the vehicle.

First off, car had abs light on. Dealer replaced every abs component. Now engine and abs light are interchanging on and off. Believe to be a wiring fault. Also, transfer case has gone out twice in 2 years. I have heard from multiple sources that transfer cases fail often in these cars which i believe to be a manufacturers defect.

When turning on the engine a noise was hear by my son. I took the car to the mechanic and he said that the flywheel is loosen and that's why you hear that noise from the low side of the engine.

Oil leaks on the muffer and the pipes could cost a fire when it hot.

Car suddenly accelerated on residential street why making turn at approx 15 mph. Had to hit break while engine was still accelerating and this slowed car a little. Then while car was still moving threw it into park andshut off car.if any people or cars were in front of me would of had accident. After waiting a few minutes i restarted car and proceeded to my house which was only a block and a half away without incident. Car is now being checked out by local mechanic. Very scary.

Consumer's husband purchased a brand new vehicle, and has had nothing but problems with the vehicle. Consumer took vehicleto repair shop at least 3 times for a an engine problem.there was only 750 miles on the vehicle, andtransmission had to be replaced. Consumer insisted that vehiclewas only driven on week ends, andit was not being misused. First occurrence of problem in transmission arose when vehicle only has 710 miles on it, dealer said it was the computer reading a false code.at 750 miles, vehicle was towed to dealership due to engine stalling.dealer told consumer that vehicle needed to have a new transmission.consumer tried to speak with the owner of the dealership, but instead an assistant told the consumer that it's impossible to replace vehicle with new transmission.also, the assistant said that in order for a new unit to be given to the consumer, the vehicle has to be declared as a lemon or have the same problem 4 times.dealer also performed quality control inspection on vehicle to make sure that vehicle is safe to drive.when vehicle was given back to consumer, they discovered that the battery top cover was cracked and a loose hose was coming from the bottom and hanging.consumer called dealer and had it repaired.*la

Intermittently while driving at any speed vehicle stalled. Vehicle was takento the dealer three times, but dealer was not able tofind the cause of the problem.

Vehicle has a metal sheet in the gas tank, so whenever one gets out and fills up for gas, it is capable of cutting the fingers.

The brake switch on the vehicle was replaced three times.the brake lights did not work, putting the consumer at risk for being rear ended.

When i press on the brake to stop, the car accelerates.the harder i press on the brake the more the car wants to accelerate.i have had at least six incidences of this situation in the course of approximations four months.when i brought the car into jaguar service the first time they returned the car to me saying that "there is nothing wrong with the car".when i brought the car to them the second time, i was very specific about how the problem developed.after four days in the shop they were able to determine that the accelerator bracket extends beyond the area of the accelerator to the left and therefore can at times interfere with the brake pedal.jaguar claims that they have never heard of this problem before, although i was able to find at least one other person, on an internet website, "mycarstats.com", who is experiencing the same problem.i informed jaguar that i am holding them responsible for any damages caused by this defect.they have now know about the cause of the problem since at least since february 22, 2006.the head lights were aimed too high. Tl * the contact owns a 2004 jaguar x-type. The contact stated that the vehicle had a fuel leak; however, the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 04v460000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

I leased a new 2004 jaguar x type from shelton jaguar in naples, florida in late march.i noticed a shudder in the steering wheel and went into the dealership to report it.i spoke to the service manager on april 15th and he said that it was normal for this type of vehicle. Later the same day,as i was turning left at an intersection, i heard a loud bang and it sounded like something dropped off the bottom of my vehicle.i stopped and looked under the car andsaw a large piece of metal dragging from my car to the pavement.a policeman came along and made me move my car into a nearby parking lot.i did so with great reservations because the dragging metal was making sparks as i drove.when the policeman looked under my car in the parking lot, he said that the gas tank had fallen and was resting on the piece of metal that was dragging on the ground.i called jaguar roadside service and they sent a flatbed truck, who refused to load my car because it was too dangerous. The dealership was closed so jaguar told me toleavemy vehicle in the parking lot and take a cab home, which i did.the next morning i called the dealership and they recovered my car.they repaired it but i wanted a new car as i was worried about the safety ofdriving this one.they refused to give me one.it was in their shop for a week and they had to replace the driveshaft as well as secure the brace for the gas tank.*la

Failure of the gas cap. The gas cap cannot be removed when adding gas. This is the second occurrence. The first time i was low on gas approx 2 gals remaining and we pulled in for gas and the gas cap would not unlatch. I had to break it off to put gas in the car but was not able to attached the cap. It happened on the weekend so it was 2 days before it was in for service. This occurrence was very similar, the cap feels like it wants to come off but it won't release. I had a half of tank this time and wanted to top off the tank. Finally i broke the cap and the top broke off with the other part still in the tank. Once again this happened on a saturday and the vehicle can't go in until monday or tuesday.

My jaguar x-type 2004 car when traveling at about 25-30 mph alternately gets sluggish and slows or revs up, causing me to apply brakes hard to prevent collisions.i have to allow enormous space between me and the vehicle ahead because i am afraid of colliding with vehicles in front.also have to brake hard to to overcome the surging forth of the engine.the car will also rev up when i am parking it.these are such common occurrences, and it seems to be a manufacturing malfunction.jaguar should recall all 2004 x-types to fix these dangerous and potentially life threatening machines.i request that the nhtsa immediately follow up and require recall of these road hazards.thank you.

The contact owns a 2004 jaguar x-type. The contact stated that while parked on an incline with the parking brake engaged, the vehicle began rolling away in reverse and crashed into another vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis however, the mechanic could not diagnose the failure. There was a manufacturer's recall for the parking brake. The manufacturer stated the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 79,500.

2004 jaguar x-type 81,000 miles. After driving for several hours at interstate speeds, the engine was slow to downshift. As car slowed to approximately 1200 rpms the engine suddenly sped up to 4500+ rpms making stopping impossible except to put engine in neutral. The same event happened four times during the 1300 mile trip.

On january 1, 2007 i was coming to a stop in heavy traffic. I applied the brake but the car lurched forward and i accelerated into a stopped car containing a family. I occasionally experienced the problem of unitended acceleration prior to the accident but at the time of the accident, i had not put the facts together. In the spring of 2008, i was on wet pavement going downhill when i applied the brake. The car seemed to accelerate rather than decelerate and i was thrown forward and into the rear of stopped pick up truck. I was injured on both occasions. I have called on jaguar on several occasions to inquire about the problem i have described herein. Each time jaguar denied any knowledge of any such problems associated with my car. The car currently has 72,000 miles and i rarely drive it. Frankly, i'm too afraid to drive it.sincerely,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The warning indicator illuminated, indicating that transmission failed. Also, engine check light appeared, andvehicle stalled.automatic transmission was replaced.since then vehiclestalled twice while driving on the highway.

While driving the vehicle's transmission failed.the consumer indicated that the transmission was replaced, however two weeks later it failed again.please provide any additional information.

Jag x type 2.5 was driving perfectly.suddenly while slowing down to make a turn aloud sound like metal grindingwas heard as clutch refused to engage into any gear.it was gone. As a former professional driver i knew the sounds and felt when a clutchwaswearing out.this was at 46,938 miles. Defective design, mechanical as some part broke or shattered, not due to driver error.jaguar service said it was not covered by the warranty, but when i was considering to buy this car the jaguar management assured me that all past mechanical problems had been corrected in these new x type cars.i kept the old damaged parts after paying $ 3246, plus $340 car rental , and $ 65 taxi.it took a second trip back to the dealership to get the clutch to engage properly.they said mine was the second clutchthey had ever serviced.now i am very concerned formy personal safety in driving this car anywhere, and particularly on the freeways.

I own a 2004 jaguar x-type with a manual transmission.i was making a turn and downshifting when the cable from the shifter to the transmission came loose at the transmission.i had to be towed to a mechanic and he fixed it in about 10 minutes.

Defective design of manual transmission for jaguar 2004 x type car.1) there was no events or symptoms leading up to the failure @ 47,000 miles.i am a professional commercial driver with 30 years experience with manual transmissions to know the symptoms.2)down shifting at 5 mph, to prepare for a turn, loud grinding sound for 58 seconds as we heard a piece of metal grinding through the transmission including the fly wheel.then the transmission was totaled.3)transmission was replaced at my expense, for $ 3245.i saved all of the broken parts for inspection in my pursuit of fairness.researched manual clutch failures with others owning the same car.found 30 others who clutches failed before 50,000 miles of their jag x type car.this is not a fluke.thereis a serious design failure as a mechanical engineer who designed the engineering (not the cosmetic stuff) of cars.even thought manual transmissions are rare in the american car industry, that is not appropriate to make defective cars.

Passenger seat belt indicator lights up at random times when my wife is sitting in the passenger seat. (when the light is on, the seat belt will not deploy!) the problem is on going. Jaguar was witness to the failure and has attempted to fix the problem on several occasions. The repair efforts have been unsuccessful and further attempts to have jaguar correct the problem have resulted in jaguar claiming that all aspects of the seat are up to design specifications. They refuse further corrective measures. This particular problem does not occur when my wife is in the passenger seat of other vehicles.

The receiver end of the drivers side seat belt has failed and cannot be connected.

I have a 2004 x-type jaguar and the air bag light on the drivers side will not go off.i had it checked out only to find out that should i get in an accident the air bag will not deploy. The dealership wants around $1500.00 to repair it.i am hoping it is a recall.

Driver seat belt failurewhen i left the house, the seat belt locked properly. When i returned to the car, i was unable to lock the seat belt around me. The dash indicated that the seat belt was locked. The buckle jammed in a closed position.i brought the car to the jaguar dealer the same day. It's a 2004x -type, purchased8/04 and has 60,000 miles on it. The car was under warranty for 50,000 miles. I was told the repair would be about $200, and they had the part in stock. Several hours later, i was called and the total repair was over $540.00! i've driven cars well over 100,000 miles. I've never had a seat belt failure.

Driver's seat completely detached from vehicle frame and was loose from seat frame box.2004 jaguar x-type. Frame was replaced.appears that there is a series problem with driver's seats on this model.jaguar has a hidden warranty on the front seat of some vins in this model due to need to shim tracks.dealer advises that there is no recall on this vin for front seat issues.car had approximately 47000 miles on odometer at time of seat frame failure.obviously a driver's seat which comes loose from its attachment to the vehicle is a severe danger.

In the just over 3 years that i have owned this car i have had 2 incidents where the car accelerates and engine races when braking at a low speed making a turn on a side street. I try to bring the to a stop but it is very difficult to do as the brakes are not fully stopping the car and both times i had to put the car in park quickly in other to completely stop it which brought it to a jerking halt. There is some defect in this model as i have seen numerous similar stories on a jaguar problems website. This is a very serious problem and i was lucky both times to be on side streets as a serious accident was avoided as i it took me a few seconds to bring the car to a stop as i did not have full control of car. I took the car to my local jaguar in glen cove ny in july and they could not replicate the incident and had no idea what the problem was. Like i said at the beginning this only happened twice in 3 years but i only drive 1000 to 2000 miles a year and to tell you the truth i am afraid to drive the car too much as i might hit another car or a person if it happens again. The 2004 jaguar x types should be recalled as others have had this same problem with no solutions.

The contact owns a 2004 jaguar x-type. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked with the parking brake engaged when it rolled away. The parking brake was loose and had to be engaged abruptly in order for the brake to catch. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who adjusted the parking brake but the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to a private mechanic, who stated that the brake caliper needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure was not reported to the manufacturer. The approximate failure and current mileage was 134,000.

The contact owns a 2004 jaguar x-type 2.5. The contact stated that when in park, the park brake would not engage. The manufacturer was notified, the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 122,000.

The contact owns a 2004 jaguar x type. He stated that he has to exert great force during brake application to stop the vehicle. Increased stopping distances can lead to a vehicle crash. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer for inspection. Upon inspection a technician replaced the brake check valve, due to corrosion. The failure mileage was 50982. The current mileage was 61000.

Brakes failed going 70 mph on the freeway.absolutely no brakes and pedal went complete to floor without no stopping.used emergency brake and rear-ended car in front.no air bags went off.car speed was about 35-40mph at time of impact due to slowing from emergency brake.

On three separate occasions vehicle would intermittently commence to accelerate while applying the brake pedal. Vehicle had been to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the problem.. While at alight vehicle accelerated and surged, forcing the driver to shift into neutral until enginestopped accelerating.

2003 jaguar vdp brake and gas pedal are to close together. ***nar*** the consumer stated when he applied the brake, he also hit the accelerator and as a result he had an accident.the consumer didn't state if there was damage to the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2004 jaguar x-type. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph there was a popping sound in the steering wheel and the steering veered to the right with no control. The contact merged to the side of the road.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a compliant was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing and stated the steering column had detached from the vehicle. As a result, the steering column, power steering rack and electronic controls needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

I purchased a 2004 jaguar x-type select edition in april 2007 with 34,000 miles.at 37,000 miles the left lower control arm was replaced under warranty (may 07)at 43,000 miles the left lower control arm was replaced again under warranty(march 08). Now, at 53,569 miles it has to be replaced again and i am waiting for the part to come in, it will still be covered by the select edition warranty.

3-5 months after purchasing the car i noticed irregular noises coming from underneath of the car.i approached jaguar service (kings jaguar) and inquired about my concern.service advisor told me: car is not broken in yet.noises were getting worse; dealer told me that noises are regular and nothing is wrong(work was done).a new service advisor took over the job and after my first inquiry many parts in suspension and transmission were replaced.things got better, but some problems remained.dealer tried to fix them, but did not succeed.one time my car was in the dealership 1 month and 10 days.jaguar north america refused and the report that was given to me stays: no problems exist (why did they hold my car for 1 month and 10 days?).after that point things have changed:service advisor started to avoid me, never answered or returned my phone calls. Bettie.with her help factory rep inspected my car on 05.10.06 - 05.12.06. The reason for whining noise and remote were fixed (were not duplicated at kings and great neck shops).the scratching metal by metal noise was called normal. I asked jaguar of north america to exchange my car.ms.bettie denied it saying that my car repaired and, if needed, will be repaired again.my car was in shops 13 times for over 2 months.i feel nervous while driving, what is next to get loose or stop working in my car.my safety concern is great because i travel a lot, and i don't want any danger to myself and my family while driving.

This is an ongoing problem. I have spent thousands of dollars in an attempt to fix the low suspension problem. My car has slowed directly on the expressway while driving 70 mph.in addition, the car was so low that it drugged the bottom. The only solution was to have it towed. This problem happen last year and i had to rent a car all winter long until the whether warmed up. I thought the problem was resolved but it started again with low temperature of 30 degrees. Jaguar should refund our money for this problem because this should have been a recall.

The jaguar x type vehicle makes a clicking noise form the prop shaft whenever the vehicle goes over any kind of street or speed bump.

While driving at 45 mph and with no warning the right front passengertire tread separated, causing the tire to b low out.

Oil leaks on the muffer and the pipes could cost a fire when it hot.

This vehicle has been driven only about 26,000 miles. I bought it brand new from manhattan jaguar dealership in bethesda md. And is still under an extended warranty. Over the last 7 years that i have owned this car i have had 3 incidents of sudden acceleration. The first happened about two years ago as i came to a red traffic light. I applied the brake and the vehicle slowed down. But then the engine suddenly made a roaring sound and the vehicle began to accelerate. As i was pushing the brake i also pushed the gear to the "p" and the vehicle stopped about 6 feet beyond the stopping line. The second time i was actually stopped to make a turn and again suddenly the engine made a roaring sound and the vehicle began a sudden acceleration.. My wife was sitting next to me and again i applied the brake and immediately push the gear to "p". Both of incidents were reported to the dealer to no avail. The last incident happened on january 13, 2011 as i was stopped 5-6 feet from the car ahead of me in a busy traffic. Again all the sudden it was a roaring sound and the vehicle began the sudden acceleration despite my pushing on the brake. The distance between me and the front car was too short; so before i could stopped the car, i hit the rear end of the vehicle stopped ahead of me. My insurance paid $725 to fix the damages to the rear bumper of that car. I took the car to the dealer again and theykept it for three days claiming that since they could not replicate the acceleration they could not do anything for me. I also drove the car with one of the dealers staff. The purpose i guess was for me to replicate the acceleration as if the previous cases were done on purpose. This car also had aproblem with the side mirrors. They would move as i was driving. After some 10 times complaint, finally they said a gadget under the driver's seat was the culprit and finally took care of

I was pulling into a parking space in front of a drug store. While maneuvering the car between the lines, my foot was already partially on the brake. Then the car accelerated more and the brakes went to the floor. Thus the car surged over the curb and into the wall. There was no control to this car at all. Estimated damage to the car is $6800.00 an insurance claims person will be checking out the brakes and also reason for car acceleration. Car may have to be towed to the dealer for further investigation once the body repairs are made.

Husband (driver) and wife (passenger) experienced a "sudden acceleration incident" in the parking lot of a resort hotel.husband applied the brake and the car "open throttled."husband continued to apply brakes, but car continued to inch forward due to the revving engine.

The contact owns a 2004 jaguar x-type.while attempting to stop the vehicle at 5 mph, the engine revved and the vehicle surged forward.the contact had to depress the brake pedal all the way until the engine stopped revving.he called the dealer and they claimed to have never heard of the failure and were unable to provide any assistance.the failure mileage was less than 1,000 and current mileage was 5,200. Updated 01/09/08. *ljthe consumer stated has taken the vehicle to the dealer twice and the dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Updated 12/12/07
