Had a flat.changed and took to service.they reported all 4 tires are bad and 4 wheel rims are bent.took to impartial 3rd service center.they reported all 5 rims are bent, including the spare we just put on, it had never been used.jaguar as of now insists that it is not a manufacturers defect.we believe the third party sources and believe that it is a manufacturer defect. We also believe the tires went bad because of the defective rims.additionally, at first service check, attendant reported bent rims, at 3rd service we reported a rough ride, they said the vehicle checked out normal.

Passenger side air bag does not seem to accomadate people that weigh less than 130 pounds or less.*mrthe vehicle has been taken back to the dealer on several occasions.the dealer indicated that the systems waws performing as designed.the consumer believes teh dealer should disclose the fact that the system may not work when people of a certain weight are in the seat.

2002 jaguar x type was involved in a roll over and none of the air bags deployed.cruise control and brake equipment are posing a problem as well. *mrthe driver and passenger sustained severe injuries. *sc

"takata recall, is there a reason to replace the air bags? i would seriously like to know!

The airbag electronic module is not properly, vehicle will not give information on passenger weight requirements to activate the system.*mj

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type. The contact was driving 6 mph when another vehicle crashed into the side of her vehicle. The vehicle was destroyed and the driver side air bag did not deploy. The contact sustained back injuries and a police report was filed. The insurance company deemed the vehicle was destroyed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted in regards to the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000.updated 05/25/11

The engine would quit running, usually when turning right and usually while bouncing over a bump.the car would sometimes show codes relating to the transmission, cylinder misfiring, or the security system failing.sometimes no codes at all would be stored, and sometimes the car would start back up on its own after a brief moment.other times it was un-drivable.the underlying issue turned out to be the positive battery cable supplying the fuse box was rubbing against a transmission mount bolt head and grounding out.

When crossing a highway intersection the vehicle engaged into limpmode whichcaused theelectrical systemto shut down, and vehicledecelerated to 5 mph.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x- type. The contact stated that while attempting to shift into any gear, the key fell from the ignition. The failure was sporadically recurring. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the gear box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was to be repaired. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63000.

I have had this car, 2002 jaguar x-type for less than 3 years. Over this time,.there have been several failures with the electrical system. The car only has 62,917 miles, and now the transmission has failed. This occured on a rainy night, and i barely got to my street before the car totally stopped moving. I have contacted jaguar corporate to ask them to stand behind their vehicle. They seem to build this car to last only 3 years. All they offered was a $1,000 discount on a bill of $8,150.00.

On 2 separate occasions, the consumer was unable to take the vehicle out of the park gear. The dealership replaced a switch when the problem first occurred.also at 26,000 while driving all gauges on the dashboard suddenly went to zero.the dealership was unable to determined the cause of the problem.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type. The contact stated that the key was worn and was unable to start the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection where they advised that the cause of the failure was the ignition, which was worn. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 95,000.

Dt:jaguar x-type 2002.the consumer was able to remove the key while the vehicle was still in gear.jaguar looked at the vehicle, and the engineer from the insurance company stated that the key was removed while the vehicle was in gear, which was an indirect violation of fmvss.jaguar simply stated that this shouldn't have happened and this fixed the vehicle.the ignition switch was defective. *sc

Electrical system - my car was parked for two days at a secure airport park and ride. When returning from my trip, when putting the car in reverse the car jerked and rolled out of the parking space. I then proceeded to put the car in drive and it failed to accelerate. The engine and transmission warning lights were illuminated, which put the car in limp mode. I had the car towed to the dealership. Thankfully i was not in high traffic when this happened. If i was traveling at 60 mph and the car went into limp mode there could have been a serious accident. The dealer stated that it was a throttle positioning sensor failure and to correct the problem, the throttle housing would have to be replaced at a cost of $1600.00.the warranty had expired 3 months earlier.this car has less than 48,000 miles on it and is only driven in city traffic. This has to be a defect with this unit, especially since it failed while the car was parked without warning. This is definitely a safety issue. If this unit had failed on the interstate (i live in the metro atlanta area) it could have caused a major accident with possible injuries.

My fiancee was driving when the engine lost all power, the red malfunction light came on, then the amber service light. The vehicle wouldn't accelerate at all and was a hazard to attempt to pull off the road from the right lane! my fiancee called scared to death as she was almost rear ended due to the suddenpower loss. Being a 3x re-certified a.s.e. Master technician with numerous college credits in electricalengineering through the us air force, i told her to shut the vehicle off and attempt to restart the engine to check thedash warning lights, both returned and the vehicle failed to accelerate beyond idle. As the lead tech(shop foreman) of the local mitsubishi dealer, i was in charge of lemon law repairs prior to buy back from the manufacturer in se fla. I hooked up my diagnostic scan tool to retrieve codes from the obd2 connection and pulled up a code for the throttle position sensor. Fortunately i was able to clear the code and drive the vehicle home- cautiously! as the lead tech. At a boca raton,fl. Repair center, i called my local jaguar dealer to inquire about the price and availability of the tps sensor and was notified that the part was only available as a throttle body assembly- for the amount of @1500.00 dollars and they happened to stock 2 units.i notified jaguar customer service and was told to take the car to the dealer though the vehicle was just over the mileage warranty and the lights were no longer on, before any determination could be made as to the warranty goodwill available to help with the repair. My previously mentioned credentials and the repeated mention that my family drives in the vehicle with 3 children and my concern with their safety fell on deaf ears. My concern is that there is no redundant circuit to allow safe travel to a clear road shoulder in the event of sensor failure as this vehicle drives by wires for the throttle. Please respond asap as i fear a repeat is definately likely!

Vehicle instrument panel is inoperative.*mr the consumer had experienced several problems with the vehicle. The dashboard had to be replaced as result of the instrument panel, the driver side door was would not open from the outside, the warning light flashed on indicating a problem with the engine and the vehicle would overheat and shut down on roadways.the dealer was notified and vehicle was taken for service but the consumers no longer want the vehicle back. Please respond promptly in resolving matter.

When driving the engine will shut-off without any warning with loss of power steering.will not restart.this has happened three times - the first time was around sept. 13.car has been towed three times. I was told the computer box was "filled with about a 100 codes and were erased and the car should be fine". The mechanic has extensive jaguar experience. I have only driven this car about 100 miles since the first incident to the present date.(i was afraid to drive this car much because i do not know when the problem will occur).on 4-21-04 the problem occurred again and i was unable to steer the vehicle (at a pedestrian industrial intersection) and my family was in the car.i researched the internet and this is a common problem with the 2002 jaguar x-type.this car is dangerous to drive and a danger to the public, myself and to my family.i have owned this car since new and never abused.it needs to be recalled and the problem fixed before someone is killed!updated 05/20/14updated 06/19/14

I was traveling sb i25 mile marker 251 on7/7/17 at 13;20. When a 6ft long tire debre was in the road and got hit by truck and thrown into my radiator and damaged the front end of my vehicle. When i talk to chp he had an earlier report of this yet it was in the road when i entered onto what i believed was a safe highway. I have the required liability insurance, this is not covered. The trucking co says they arent liable so the only other liability is cdot since the road wasn't safe.

While driving engine exploded. As a result, the windows began to fog up. The cause has notbeen determined.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type. While driving approximately 20-25 mph, the fuel level indicator failed. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where it was determined that the fuel sending unit had failed and the fuel gauge would need to be replaced. In addition, when activating the air conditioner, the engine mount warning light would intermittently illuminate on the warning panel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for the failure. The vine was not available. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 130,000.

This car has been a disappointment since day one.i bought this off lease from bournival lincoln/mercury in july 2005.since then...first was the constant condensation of the windows...something about heater core and seals needed to be replaced.then the check engine light kept coming on,drive 115 miles to the jag dealer and be told nothing is wrong on multiple occasions. The sun room failed and had to be replaced.when this happened the passenger front seat belt would no longer pull out-completely inoperable.next cam the chugging, chugging,go syndrome.ws told it had something to do with fuel sensors and oxygen sensors.tire blow out on the highway (with kids and mother in the car).now the bolts holding the strapping to secure the fuel tank fell out.the dealer ship tells me---not from rust---but they are alleging from some sort of valdalism--so i have to pay to have these replaced. Yup...it's been an expensive two years....$24,000 for the car, twice towed, warranty covered repair expenses +/- $4,000; uncovered repair expenses still incurring-but it's over $1,500 at last count..not to mention numerous drives to jaguar dealers (this means taking the day off from work)....when i bought the car, i purchased a ford premium care extended warranty, because, as i was informed, "any ford dealer should be able to handle the car"...untrue.

1.5 yrs with gear box fault/abs brake lights & check engine-car constantly shut off while driving very dangerous.code that came up catalytic converter, on the jaguar x-type 02. Dealer won't honor the 8 yrs. Change all the sensors including brakes, had the transmission rebuilt and fixed the 2 leaks, got a full tune up, everything was ok for 4day before all the lights came up again.still same problems cont...sat. I hit a pot hole while driving at night. The care went dead. Got it start moments later but car lights would not come back on and transmission would not operation except in reverse.... I can not drive at night because the car head lights shuts down the car whenever i turn it on. This cars spends more time in the shop than the road. Help what do i do? i financed this car and i'm constantly spending, and spending to stay up but i am slowly loosing this battle.

Cpsc: 2002 jaguar x-type : consumer stated he ordered a blue devil radiator/block sealant for a small leak coolant, but the sealant was deemed defective once it had added to the radiator. It caused the vehicle to overheat and the fans to run high. *ssthe consumer was informed the head gasket needed to be replaced.

2002 x-type jaguar 2.5 was recently repaired due to malfunctions associated with fords 2002 jaguar gear box, transmission, heater core, cylinder heads all needed to be serviced. The 2002 jaguar seems to be a lemon straight from the factories that this car was manufactured. Would like some acknowledgement and answers to be addressed by ford.

I treated myself to this vehicle after suffering from brain cancer for 5 years but after the experience i have had with my 2002 x type i'm not sure if it was a treat or a mistake. I have had many problems such as engine coolant sensor, o2 sensor, intake manifold, gear shift ( manual) is rough, drivers side door sticks and wont open ( embarrassing )at first i felt like a queen in my car but now its more humiliating than anything.i broke down on the hgwy, got made fun of for my expensive vehicle being on the side of the road, the check engine light is always on. And i don't have time in life to get to enjoy this car since it is in the shop so much :(

Steering column shimmied when depressing brake; steering column made rubbing noise; two tires blew out; electrical malfunction light turned on; poor fm reception; front seats rock.mr

October 2,2005 on the northern state pkwy, 15 mins into my trip, the engine temp gauge light turned red and the indicator needle jumped past the red (overheat) zone. As i decelerated off the pkwy onto the exit ramp the engine started to smoke profusely and the car rolled to a stop, while the engine completely burned out. The car was towed to the dealership where the next day as i showed up to get something out of the car, to assure me that i didn't need to worry one of the mechanics pointed out another car identical to mine that had suffered the same malady and was now having its engine completely rebuilt. Almost forgot, the car was attended to for it's regular scheduled maintenance by this same dealership on september 8, 2005.

Our car simply stopped on my wife while she was driving it.it slowed down until it halted to a complete stop while she was driving on a major interstate.we had the car towed to a repair shop only to learn that the engine has a hole in it. The repairman stated that he was surprised at the hole in the engine because the oil was full and that nothing leading to the engine was busted. There is no leakage anywhere.we do not have any oil spots in our garage from where the car was leaking oil.we contacted the dealership in montgomery, alabama where we purchased the car.one of their representatives informed me that we needed to pursue other means because they were not interested in helping us to resolve the issue.

Searing problem with jaguar 3.0 x-type.*mrthe vehicle has been taken to the dealer 10 times for repair.the consumer is afraid that the vehicle will either explode or catch on fire.the consumer request that a new vehicle be assigned to the lease.

While sitting in traffic, the vehicle all of a sudden caught on fire.there was no warning, smoke started to come from the hood.(heaviest on the right side of the hood)the engine block was totally destroyed.the hot spot appeared close to the windshield.when the fire started, it smelled like electricalwiring.the dealer couldn't find the problem. *scc

I would like to post a similar complaint to notify other consumers who owns a jaguar x-type 2002.in august 29 2007, on my way to work the car wouldn't accelerate more that 30 miles per hour.i drove back home and i had the car towed to the nearest jaguar dealership. I had to replace the transmission for a cost of $5,400 with 59,000 miles. The first 4 years,i made several visits to the dealer to fix an engine light problem, fuel leak, reported a squeaky sound coming from the brakes(@ 10,000 milesjaguar told me i needed new brakespads for a cost $1,200,). The radio speakers stopped working and i was told it was normal wear and tear and it will cost me $ 900 to fix it.

Went to gas up my 2002 jaguar x-type 2.5 when totally empty and gas shot back out and spilled all over the place.tried three different gas stations with the same effect.check engine light came on, indicating a problem with the gas tank.i can't gas my car and there is the safety hazard of gas shooting back out.dealer won't cover it and there are no second hand parts or individual parts, have to replace whole gas tank and filler system costing me $1750.

The consumer states that the fuel tank was replaced.the reason is unkown.*scc

Bolts holding the gas tank strapping fell out while driving.

There was no crash associated with this problem.all four door locks have become inoperable from the outside of the vehicle.the problem can be fixed by replacing the door latches.this started happening occasionally when the car was three years old and has gotten much worse.in an emergency it would be impossible to open the doors from the outside.

The consumer states that the trunk lock needed to be replaced.the indentions on the top of the rear bumper caused the trunk not to function properly.*scc

My name is [xxx]. My husband [xxx] and i own a 2002 jaguar x-type 2.5. In octoberof 2003, i parked in a commercial parking lot while i attended an appointment. When i returned to the vehicle after my appointment, i found that the car has rolled back into 2 other vehicles that were parked behind it. There was damage done to all three vehicles involved. It is documented by myself and both of the owners of the vehicles that were involved that my handbrake was fully engaged. Nobody could believe that the vehicle could have rolled back. The incident happened on a commercial parking lot, and even though a police officer attended the scene, he would not make a written report as it happened on private property. I contacted the local dealership (gaudin jaguar - las vegas, nv) and brought my vehicle to be looked at, they indicated that there was nothing wrong with the handbrake. I indicated at that time that i did not feel safe driving and parking the vehicle as the handbrake had to be faulty as it should not roll back when engaged. I left the dealership unhappy with the service that i received from the dealership. I went through my insurance and had to take responsibility even though i was not in the vehicle when the altercation happened and even though the brake was witnessed by all parties. I will have an increased insurance premium for something that i believe not to be though any fault of my own. I have gone to jaguar head office and after much confusion on their customer vice rep, they claim that there isn't an issue and that they only deal with insurance companies. My insurance company will only contact them if a complete recall is made. I have only found one other person who took their vehicle into their dealer (jaguar northampton) and they fixed the problem. I can provide this info, if needed.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

1.this is my 3rd sua.see 10320564 for 1st 2.trip components: country roads, a ferry, city streets, and fwy for approx. 40 miles.the incident occurred after 10 miles of fwy and during approx. 1.5 miles of city streets. 2.i turned onto a semi-steep st. Approaching a mall.the 2nd light before the mall changed and i was going fast enough to downshift to aid braking.i was the 3rd car from the light in the left lane.i had shifted to drive after stopping, my foot on the brake as i waited.the light changed and as the car ahead began to move and when there was room, i moved my foot from brake to throttle.i think that i applied some pressure after engine and slope got it moving.as it began rolling, i felt what i thought was a shift.the car began going faster and faster by itself so i moved my foot on the brake.car didn't want to stop so i put it in neutral and it stopped [no engine roar during this as in prior sua's.]after stopping, the engine idled down quickly.because of traffic i did not take the time to kill ignition.it ran ok so i proceeded to run my mall errand and then took it to jaguar.3.this was a thurs. And we had a 2500 mi. Trip scheduled for the following wed.on mon. Service advisor told me that there were 2 xmission faults they were investigating, but that i might be able to get the car tues.i went in early and went for a test drive with a tech with no sua.he talked about the xmission faults and said that 1 was a sensor at the gear shift and the 2nd a sensor up forward which might reflect a shifting that caused the engine to think it needed gas (i'm not technical).more review was needed so we had to rent a car for the trip.this wk i was told that because there were no faults [was 2], and after a review of all the documentation and data from all 3 sua's which were all unverified [was 2], that there are "no concerns" and that the car is safe to drive.and i will be billed for $379 plus gas.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type. The contact stated that while parking, there was a loud explosive noise heard as the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The contact mentioned that the check engine and the gearbox warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the power transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 74,000.

The transmission of my jaguar 2002, 3.0l dohc24 valve v6 engine, model, 2002 x-type, serial number, went bust and needed a newtransmission. The car was driven only for about 25,000 miles. This type of car was reported to national highway traffic safety administration on february 2, 2008for transmission problems, the jaguar dealer refused to repair my car.thus, since it has cost about $3,000 to repair the car, i request that you office help me to get a refund.

1.vehicle was being driven on a 30 mile trip to run errands.cruise control was used during the first 2 segments of the trip but not thereafter.after three or four errands and dinner we proceeded to a smaller mall where the engine was stopped with ignition in radio mode while the wife went into a store for a few minutes.2.after she returned i started up, backed out, and proceeded forward approximately 75' to a left turn onto the mall exit road with approximately 100' left to the stop sign at the crossing street.i accelerated from the turn and all of a sudden the engine roared and we shot ahead.i jammed on the brake as hard as i could, but we kept accelerating.i then shifted into neutral and stopped with the nose of the car just past the stop sign.the engine was still roaring so i turned the ignition off.at that point two cars crossed in front of us.this was the second incidence of unintended acceleration.the first, 100k miles earlier was similar with the only difference being that the car was parallel parked and it took off almost immediately after i put it in drive and my foot was still on the brake.there was enough room that i was able to successfully stop it as above with no accident.3. Immediately after the 1st incident jaguar performed an ecm reflash as per jaguar tech line advisory, checked all cable linkage and throttle body.after the current incident jaguarscanned for codes, found none for the throttle body, but found 3 codes for misfires, 2 for transmission, and 3 for brake switch.they cleared codes, drove car and were unable to verify concern.they further were directed by techline to do a vehicle scan, flight recorder data, and vehicle sessions.all the data was sent to the uk for investigation.this past weekend while waiting on the uk they drove it some more.i was informed verbally yesterday that we could have the car back next week when we returned from vacation.that the car was "safe" and "good to go."

The jaguar dealer replaced the transmission and related parts in the car as it was un-drivable.after re-assembly, the car would make clunking sounds when turning tight turns and over bumps and dips.this became more noticeable over time, until the dealer wanted to replaced most of the suspension.it turns out that the transmission sub-frame is bolted through the floor pan to spot-welded nuts.the technician broke these nuts loose during re-installing the frame member (perhaps by over-torquing).the drivetrain would then shift during the tight turns and over bumps making a loud clunking in the unibody.

I was stopped in front of my garage, waiting for the door to open, with my foot on the brake pedal, when all of a sudden the engine began to speed up and brake pressure failed to stop the vehicle. The vehicle struck the partially open door, then smashed in to cabinets in the rear of the garage. Damage to the vehicle and the garage was severe. There car suffered damage to the front bumper, the hood and scratched the windshield and roof. I was not injured, but badly shaken by the incident. The vehicle has about 60,000 miles. I see in your complaint reports that this has occurred several times previously to the same model and year jaguar. The car has yet to be repaired.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x- type. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle began to lose power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 53,000. ..updated 01/23/2014 the consumer stated a recall was issued regarding the transmission. However, jaguar refused to address it.the consumer stated he had to replace the transmission tiwce.

I have owned my 2002 x-type since april of 04 and it was purchased from crown jaguar as a certified pre-owned car. Like many other compliants to this site and others my transmission failed with 115,000 miles. While i'm lucky compared to some owners i'm still amazed that it would fail so quickly. The cost of the repair is 7k. Hopefully someone will look at this problem because a lot of people are getting the short end of the stick with jaguar.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type. The contact stated while driving the gear box fault lamp illuminated. The contact mentioned that the second time the failure occurred the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 37,800.

I just bought a 2002 jaguar x-type from the woodbridge auto auction in virginia two days ago.the transmission is giving me problems and needs to be replaced.i looked on-line for consumer complaints regarding the jaguar's transmission and there are plenty.jaguar should recall these cars and replace the transmissions.the japanese manufacturer currently making the transmissions for jaguar are making unsafe transmissions.its time for jaguar to take responsibility for their product and recall these calls and replace these transmissions.

Experienced two major failures. The initial failure involved the shearing off of one of the left suspension components.resulted in steering failure.fortunately, i was only going 20 mph and was able to stop before further damage incurred.$4500 in repairs to front end/suspension--covered by local dealer/jaguar.the second failure involved transmission failure at speeds of 40 - 70 mph.happily, when taken to the dealership, it left them stranded on the street.this resulted in the recommendation of a new transmission at $6500 on a component not due to require service for another 30,000 miles.(car had 69,000 miles.)

My car is a 2002 jaguar x-type. My transmission went completely out friday morning. Luckily,i was able to move it to the side of the road without being injured. My car only has 60,589 miles on it?! what cars transmission gives out at such low mileage? not forgetting the expense to replace it. The economy right now is not the best and 1 car for two working individuals is not an option...can you help us? i want jaguar to pay this. I did not purchase an extended warranty because with all my other cars i have never needed to. I take good care of my cars with oil changes, fluids topped off, new brakes and tires when needed??!! jaguar wants to charge me $7,100 to replace this. I found a mechanic to put a used one in with 43,000 miles on it for half that but what guarantees do i have thatone will not give out? this is supposed to be a luxury car???? thanks for your time and i look forward to hearing from you.

Transmission was slipping during first, i was told it was adjusted.transmission failure at 40,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type.while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated without pressure being applied to the accelerator pedal.the contact attempted to depress the brake pedal, but the vehicle would not slow down.she swayed across the road and crashed into the curb to stop the vehicle.the vehicle was damaged and taken to an authorized dealer for repairs.there were no warning indicators prior to this failure.the insurance company was notified of this incident.recently, the transmission failed at low mileage and has not yet been replaced.the vin was verified, but appears to be invalid.the failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 31,000.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar xtype. The contact stated that the transmission failed. The contact has no knowledge as to how the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the transmission need to be replaced for $8,000. The manufacture was called and also stated that there were no warranties or related recalls. The failure mileage was 65,000.

When crossing a highway intersection the vehicle engaged into limpmode whichcaused theelectrical systemto shut down, and vehicledecelerated to 5 mph.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type.while accelerating from 25 to 70 mph, the contact noticed that the gear box fault indicator began illuminating on the instrument panel.she then heard a grinding noise, which caused her to stop at a traffic light and turn off the vehicle.when she restarted the vehicle, the gear box fault indicator stopped illuminating and the grinding noise ceased.she continued to drive the vehicle throughout the day and returned to her residence.four days later, the warning indicator and grinding noise failures recurred.the vehicle began decelerating on its own and she repeated the actions from the previous failure; however, the gear box fault indicator would not stop illuminating.approximately two minutes later, while driving 25 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate.the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and towed to the dealer.the contact was informed that the fifth gear shaft and transmission needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was notified and informed her that they were not liable for the repairs.the current and failure mileages were 60,589.

At only 46,000 miles, vehicle suffered catastrophic transmission failure, resulting in estimates ranging from $8000 (jaguar rebuilt) to $3000 (local rebuild) for repairs.car was, according to dealer, out of warranty by registration date, leaving me with the entire rebuild bill.jaguar knows about the problem of x-type transmissions failing and refuses to address the situation.emails and letters sent to jaguar hq have all gone unanswered.since i received the vehicle, the transmission has been replaced, headlight washer covers have both blown off during use, sunroof has failed, both front seats rock (jaguar has a tsb out on this but fails to recall), mysterious dsc failures and many fit and finish issues (dash pad warping, paint issues, etc.).

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type.the contact stated that the vehicle fails to shift into reverse.the vehicle is currently at the shop.the dealer stated that the vehicle needs a new transmission.the current mileage is 64,783 and failure mileage was 64,763.

On 2 separate occasions, the consumer was unable to take the vehicle out of the park gear. The dealership replaced a switch when the problem first occurred.also at 26,000 while driving all gauges on the dashboard suddenly went to zero.the dealership was unable to determined the cause of the problem.

The gearbox failure light illuminates when the car has been out in the wet. It doesn't have to be heavy or even raining for this to occur. Once this occurs the gearbox fails to respond as it should.the car will rev, but the gearbox doesn't responsd, consequently it can leave you stranded on the highway, and you then have to coast your car to the hard shoulder.

While driving home from work at night at about 30 mph the transmission started to slip then the car stopped moving at all even though the engine was running and in gear. I work in an old industrial part of town and not a place to break down after dark and was very lucky a policeman happened by almost immediately and waited until a tow truck came. I called the jaguar dealer about it and was told there is a lot of problems with the 02 x types and he thinks since ford is in such bad shape, jaguar is not covering these out of warranty even though this is a known defect. I ended up having the car towed to a transmission shop i trust and he also was aware of the problems these x-types were having with the transmissions. It cost me $4,500 to have the transmission rebuilt on a car with 55,000 miles on it. A little research on the internet shows a lot of people having problems with their transmissions on the 02 x-type and jaguar/ford is doing nothing to cover the problem after the factory warranty is up.

I bought my jag 2002 x-type used with 38,000 on it.but after a years ownership on 2/10/10 with about 50,000 on it while driving i experienced an engine deceleration and an error message came on the dashboard saying gearbox failure pulled over to the side of the road out of the way of traffic switched off car and put it back on put in drive but could not go over 30mph took it to jaguar for a diagnostic was told needed transmission, fuel pump.and oilpan gasket cost almost 10,000 doll. Too expensive for me then took the car to the local co they replace trans and everything on the diagnostic done by jaguar for 118.00. Get my car back after 2 mths driving car and same thing happens again a week after trans replacement gear box failure take it back after another month am told i have an electrical probafter 52,000 spent on parts and labor my car is still in the shop . I see that there are many x-type owners out there with the same prob jaguar needs to come clean and step up to take responsability for this trans prob i am sure like me we all love our cars but not enough to keep spending thousands of dollars on a prob that cant be fixed!!!!!!

I purchased my 2002 jaguar x-type in april 2002 new.it had surges, and stalls.i asked the service dept to add remarks, it once stopped in the highway right in front of a semi truck, with no warning.this was very shortly after i purchased the vehicle.since i cashed in my company 401k and paid cash for the car, i kept trying to drive it and deal with the problems, and it has had very many.now at just over 59,000 miles i have been told it needs a new transmission, water pump, vacuum leaks on the engine, and so on.the estimate for repairs is approximately the car's total blue book value.again, just as i pulled out into traffic, gearbox fault error came on, and the car would barely crawl out of the way of incoming cars.is there anything you can do to assist?based on numerous searches, jaguar should have recalled this vehicle.it has a terrible safety history.i am a single parent with a son in college and now face adding to our home mortgage just to repair the car. I would take full responsibility for making an unwise purchase, however, jaguar knows fully this vehicle is extremely defective.thank you very muchvehicle currently located at leith inc. 700 autopark blvd cary, nc 27511 919 469-2699.

This regards transmission failure of 2002 x type with 62,000.i am original owner and have had error messages and lurching from the transmission, with jaguar returning the vehicle indicating no problems.the internet is full of complaints with low mileage and complaints like mine.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type.while driving 60 mph,a warning indicator illuminated on thedashboard.the dealer diagnosed the failure as the transmission, and stated that it needed to be replaced.the failure mileage was 31450.

In march of this year i bought a 2002 jaguar x-type 3.0 sport with only 40,123 miles on it. Since then i have only put on six thousand miles. Just last week my transmission suddenly went into high revs on upshifts and sever jerks and then failure. All in one day with no warning at all. The vehicle has expired its factory warranty only by time and not mileage. I find this unacceptable, especially at the response of, that will cost about $7,000 to fix. That's half the value of the car! i have contacted jaguars' usa customer service center in nj three times and they will not stand behind their product and will not offer any assistance what so ever. I basically got a, sorry, and such is life response. I am currently waiting to speak with a supervisor. I have been searching the internet and have found numerous reviews and comments of exactly the same problem, the transmission failure. Some have commented on failure at 15,000 miles 35,000 miles 40, and 50 thousand miles. The comments are all the same and not hard to find, i cannot understand how this is not acknowledged and fixed. I cannot afford to fix my car, i have nothing else to drive, and i would lose so much just to trade it in on another car. I can supply many, many complaints of the same problem at the drop of a hat. I feel legal action is necessary to fix this problem. Please help the hard working common man.

Jatco jf506e transmission is a known defective issue with a rotor or plate that cracks and ruins the whole transmission costing thousands of dollars. There was a noticeable slip occurring intermittently and has caused a failure. Jaguar never warned it's customers of this issue when they found out 4 years ago or more never calling for a recall. There has been thousands of reports on this issue and is very hazardous to the consumer. When driving it can slip not go into gear and cause a major accident. There are three components to the jaguar 2002 x-type which is european, american, and japanese parts. This i asked the dealer to specifically tell me if the parts were european and he explained this are all ford parts so it won't cost that much to fix things. A blatant lie which was sold to the masses, very disturbing that they knew of this issue with a plate which cracks after overheated and causes the transmission to slip and fail. The jatco jf506e is a mazda part in a jaguar which is very strange and confusing let alone very dangerous. It stalled out and slipped the other day almost resulting into a very serious accident and when i read about the issues and the complaints by hundreds if not thousands, this should be a recall by jaguar. When i told them that i noticed a problem with the shifting, they said it was normal. They knew exactly what the problem was and waited till everyone was out of a warranty so they wouldn't have to fix it or deal with the issues which are life threatening.

A light on the dash indicated a transmission or engine failure and the car had trouble going more than 30 miles per hour.i immediately went to a mechanic who said i had a transmission failure. The car only had 38000 miles so this was very unexpected.it was just out of warranty by 2 months.jaguar cars agreed to pay half of the cost of replacing the transmission with a refurbished transmission, my share was $3304. Based on internet postings i have read from other owners of this vehicle i suspect this could be a known safety defect and i believe an investigation may be warranted.

Jaguar 2003 transmission failure nearly causes fatal accident on highway in ga.dealer denies recall# xt307 s941, will not fix, see http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2002/jaguar/x-type/.

We recently took our 2002 jaguar x-type to the dealer for inspection after the transmission seemed to be slipping during acceleration. The dealer recommended replacement of the transmission and shifter - a $6500 repair. After some research we locatednhtsa service bulletin 10012396. Jaguar technical bulletin jatco jf506e - service action s941, which acknowledges that the our transmission was faulty from the outset. Our vin number and our transmission serial number fall within the range listed in the bulletin and should be replaced by the dealer. Jaguar is refusing to replace the part, although they know it is faulty.this is an ongoing problem. Please take a look at these complaints. It's time for jaguar to take responsibility for this issue.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph on may 21, 2010, the transmission failed and the vehicle lost power; a light indicating gear box fault illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop. The contact called the dealership and was told that because the vehicle was no longer under warranty, he would be responsible for repair expenses. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that there was no failure within the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were approximately 64,000. Gear box fault light comes on while driving and complete loss of power. Jaguar replaced transmission with brand new one . Not 90 days later brand new transmissiondoes same exact thing. Third transmission y being installed at jaguar , now im afraid of this vehicle. Some one is going to get hurt or killed if on high way.

On four separate occasions in the last five months, the car lost power and the "power train" warning light on the dash display came on.it appears to be related to the cruise control, since the failures occurred when engaging or re-engaging (after applying the brake or pressing on the accelerator) the cruise control.the failures seem to occur randomly and not every time the cruise control is used.the dealer has been unable to replicate the problem, but they have replaced the control computer and re-done a number of wiring harnesses.even though the problem has not been replicated, the failure history is captured in the car's on-board computer. *nlm

Automatic transmission began dropping gears, beginning with top gear, working its way down till the transmission would no longer pull the vehicle.after the first gear dropped, "gearbox fault" came up in the driver information display.after researching this matter, it appears that jaguar has a serious defect with these transmissions, as most x-type transmissions fail at 50,000 miles.jaguar (corporate) refused to reply to both verbal and written inquiries.total cost new was $7,700 for replacement, rebuilt was $2,900.jaguar obviously knows of the defect, as it was covered in their tsb's.

Automatic transmission failure.. Every 20,000 miles trans falls apart.

First start up onto highway after brief warm up of 3 minutes.vehicle went into limp mode after hearing a brief howling noise from transmission.dash indicators read: engine system failure, dcs systems failure and trans failure.red and amber lights in center came on.parked in rest area in n.shifted back into drive and there was a very loud engagement of transmission that jerked vehicle.vehicle's warranty to expire in 2 weeks.vehicle still at shop waiting for diagnostics check.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type.the contact stated that she always noticed white smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle.during that time, she also noticed that the engine light was illuminated on the instrument panel and she smelled something burning.she took the vehicle to a local dealer and they stated that the smoke was not problematic.after a year of complaining about the smoke, the contact began experiencing failure with the gear box and noticed that the gear box fault light was illuminated.she then took the vehicle to another dealer and they replaced the transmission.she does not remember what caused the transmission to fail or the specific failures she experienced with the gear box.the failure mileage was 69,000 and current mileage was 75,000.

Have experienced several occurrences of power train shutdown to do electronics on 2002 jaguar x type vin # [xxx]...this occurs in moving traffic at all speeds. Represents a serious safety issue. I have asked jaguar motor co to replace the vehicle...they claims it has been repaired. Not the case as the malfunction has occurred several times which resulted in main harness & ecu replaced... Drive line noise, it happens when the ait temperature is low, first after about 3-4 minutes of driving and about 1/2 mile when i approach my second stop sign. Other jaguar owners had the same problem and had to replace the propshaft, this is a tsb defect and jaguar will fix if you the car has warranty, otherwise, you will have to pay around $1300 to get the noise gone. If you got to x-type forum on roadfly.com you will find alot complaint about that noise.

To all the consumers that either own or knows someone who owns a jaguar. I am putting together a complaint against the manufacturer for a problemwithin these cars. I, too, own a 02 jaguar x-type and this past weekend the car stopped without any warning signs. I had the car towed to a jaguar dealer on saturday thinking maybe this was a minor problem, until i got the call that the car needed a brand new transmission that will cost me over $5000.after going to websites researching i came across that therewere so many other consumers with the same problem , and realized that this must be a manufacturer'sproblem. The funny thing about it was thatwe all started off saying that we bought a 02 jaguar and after it reached over 50,000 miles that a transmission was required on it. I came to the conclusion that the manufacturer knew that this wasthe reason for theexpiring warranty at 50,000 miles. The reason nothing has been done about it because no one had ever came forward. This is a time that we all need to stand up and speak out about what just happenedto us because i knew some of us, still owningthese cars and word of mouth meant everything. Right now, i didn't know what to do, but pray and speak out about it whichmay not get me far but at least it got me heard. Icalled the local newspaper about it and left a message for a response. I suggested that others do the same and don?t let this continue to go on to other consumers.

Car has had numerous repairs with transmission, door's opening, truck, fuel injectors, sunroof, windows, etc.

Design flaw in inner and outer rocker panels lead to rust through of uni-body. By the time owner sees first indication of rust, uni-body is almost completely gone. Components rust from the inside out. It seems that jaguar has corrected this design flaw on 07 and newer models. In an accident there would be no strength in uni-body, no energy absorption, and car could literally be "cut in half".

2002 jaguar x-type. Front inner structure around a pillar and connection to rocker panels is rusting badly at a crucial structure point. Started noticing in 2010,with complete issue this year. Replacement panel has drain built in vs. Original with no way to frain moisture from inner rocker.

A-frame and front corner panels are rusting out due to a design flaw. Jaguar refuses to fix this issue. With a rusted out a-frame it makes the car extremely weak and if in a crash the car will crumble. Major issue, please help.

Vehicle shimmies while driving and braking, the tires have been balanced and rotated more than four times.*mj

Rear wheels can not be put into alignment to manufacturer's specifications.

Noted a metal fatigue vertical separation in the right rear trailing arm of the rear suspension approximately 4 in long. No damage to the link is noted and appears to be a stress fracture. Complete fracture of the link could occur at speed if a road hazard, i.e. Pothole or rough road surface is encountered causing the rear wheel to possibly separate from the vehicle. Manufacturer was notified directly but was told to take it to a dealerphotos are available and car can be made available for inspection.

While driving over 55 mph there wassevere vibration in the steering wheel.dealer told the consumer to put different rims and tires on the vehicle. Consumerreplaced the tires and rims, but the problem recurred.

While traveling on the highway, i had a flat tire.the tire went flat extremely fast, not quite a blow out.upon removing the front passenger tire, i found a hole worn on the inside sidewall approximately 2 inches up from the thread. There is complete band of removed rubber around the entire tire with the hole exposing some white fibers. I expected a nail or other protrusion, not a hole on the thinnest part of the tire. I looked at the other tire (drivers side) and noticed the same problem is happening.i am relieved we did not have a blow-out although the tire looked like it could have blown out at any time.it is obvious the tire rubs on something in the wheel well.i need to take the tire off again and look at the what is happening (did not have time to do a full investigation while on the highway).i hope other jaguar x-type owners are not experiencing the same thing.this is a accident waiting to happen.it could have easily been a serious accident depending on traffic flow.i strongly feel this is a safety issue.regardless of tire position, the tire should never rub against a permanent object in the car.the tire pressure was not a issue. The tires were checked often with minimal degregation in pressure.the vehicle had waranty work on it approx 6,000 miles ago.it is possible they misaligned the tires after replacement of the transmission.(9 separate waranty items worked over 16 months - talk about a lemon).

I was traveling at 75mpg north from atlanta entering knoxville tennesse at 23:00 when i turned on the cruise control.the engine instantly shut down without warning.luckily traffic was light at that time of the evening and i was able to coast with the gear in neutral to the nearest exit ramp.i removed the key from the ignition and restarted the car easily.i was able to complete my trip back to cleveland, ohio without the use of the cruise control.it;s been over a year since the incident and the car runs fine.since the incident, i have never nor will i ever use the cruise control again.

Jaguar 2003 transmission failure nearly causes fatal accident on highway in ga.dealer denies recall# xt307 s941, will not fix, see http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2002/jaguar/x-type/.

The contact owns a 2002 jaguar x-type.the contact described a lengthy hesitation when depressing the accelerator pedalat35 mph.the contact stated that the vehicle decreasedtoaproximately 5 mph without warning.the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure.the current and failure mileage were 35000.

Space between the gas pedal and brake pedal is so narrow thatdriver's feet got trapped between them, resulting in an accident.

Twice while attempting to back into a parking place, consumer put foot on brake when vehicle flew foward into a parked car. Consumer states foot was not on accelerator. Took to dealer and they stated that the black box reported that both brake pedal and gas pedal were pressed at the same time.please provide any further information. Ph

*nlm

Nar 04/21/2003 mrthe consumers automobile was in a series block of vehicles build and sold with a defective chip. After having several problems with the vehicle such as; the seat belt adjusters broken, the clock radio audio system inoperative, the brakes having been replaced, failure of the transmission interlocking which causes a clicking noise. And to date the consumer has only received one recall (r935) notice. The consumer is very dissatisfied and feels that jaguar has failed to tackle the problemsasstated, hopefullycompensation for the defective vehicle will be enacted.the dashboard instrument panel was replaced. I love my jag, but drive shaft replaced 4x - whistling noise due to incompatible metals, front seats rock, windows malfunction, brakes have rapid wear less than 30,000 miles, tires replaced less than 30,000 miles, dealer is trying to solve problems.*la

The driver side window did not roll down.

Twicesun roof did not close all the way. Dealer could not find cause of problem.please provide additional information.

Whenrear side windows are opened while driving it causessevere vibration, and a severe noise forrear passengers. Dealer andmanufacturer have been notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Steering vibration started after replacement of clutch at 12000 miles ( clutch seized). Dealer said wheels were buckled and swapped, on further work 2 months later ( took 2 months for part) dealer states 4 wheels are buckled ( includes spare that was unused). Only option is to purchase 4 new wheels ( x type 3.0 sport). Jaguar have been singularly unhelpful and car has been in repairs for 22 days since received in june 2002.

While driving at any speed there was severe vibration in front and rear.the vehicle was taken to dealership, and technician determinedthatrims were bent.previous to diagnosis, consumer replaced one of the rear rims which was bent.a total of five rims replaced and the tires were replaced because they weren'tsuitable for the rims. *sc
