I owe a jaguar s-type it has several mechanical problem.i noticed there is no data no where posted regarding this vehicle. (nhtsa, iihs, or dot). No data anywhere on the jaguar s-type. I think that should throw up some red flag as to why are they hiding something? (1) on several occasions my windshield wiper fail to operate. The vehicle was in for service, the mechanics stated that there was a fuse blown, however when the fuse was replaced the windshield wipers continued to malfunction. They work less than 50 % of the time needed. (2) i live in michigan, alot of snow, ice & rain, on more than one occasion i would be drive in the snow or rain, and the wipers would just stop operating for no apparent reason. Leaving me totally visually impaired. I would have to turn on my flashers, & pull off the road, then wait until the rain stops or leave the car and call for a ride home. I have loss time at work because of this issue, also missed several appointments because of this continue problem.(3) once the fuse was replaced for the wipers, however the last three times this has happen to me. When checked by a mechanics, no problem was found with the wiper or electrical system, however the wipers seem to have a shortage of some kind.

The control module in my car has gone out costing over 2,000 to repair.there are several websites dedicated to the malfunction.which causes significant problems with heat and air conditioning.

Initially while being parked in dec. 2014, i started the car but could not release the electronic park brake.i had to drive it to a mechanic 3 miles away with the brakes smoking.they saw a procedure for resetting the park brake and gave me a copy.all was well for 2 mos. But driving along about 30mph they suddenly locked.i was able to pull over and fortunately had been carrying tools for this and performed the procedure.it happened two more times in 2015 after i was stopped with engine off.i called jaguar and they said there is no recall, but i have been afraid to drive it long distances and do not want to sell it as it is a serious safety concern.jaguar offered to look at it but i know all about that and what it could cost, especially when it does not always happen.note: see enclosed documents for 2004, but i have supposedly a 2005 with this issue.

I took my car in at the end of april/early may sometime for the transmission to be repaired , i took my car into jaguar as i normally to get this work done.i got my car between may 8th and 9th because i drove it to my graduation may 10th. Literally 7 days may 16th after it was fixed it would not start and error messages appeared on dash board that i've never seen. I called the shop and they stated too have it towed. They told me that they wouldn't be able to get it in until june but have it towed so i did. On july 16th the red told me this "we are replacing the transmission sleeve that we replaced last time. July 18th this is what i was told "we are trying to get this transmission issue taken car of. We tried to warranty work we did last time and it didn't fix it. We actually have a separate issue of fluid leaking. My tech is trying to figure out our options. I should have a quote together shortly but unfortunatley it wont be cheap.--ryan schmitt jaguar land rover minneapolis. Today is july 24th i was told that they could look deeper into to see if it's an internal problem but that would cost me as well.

I was driving, and i smelled smoke so i decided to pull over. Upon closer examination i discovered that the smoke was coming from the garage door opener, which i never use! when i touched the cover for the garage door opener it was hot. Within a few minutes my car was filled with smoke, and a small fire began to burn in the top center console containing the garage door opener. I opened all the door windows, and also the sunroof to clear the interior of my car of the smoke. I managed to put the fire out by taking a sip of water from a bottle, and spitting it on the fire!

Whiletraveling along a busy highway at approximately 45 mph, the car engine shut down.we were unable to get the engine to start back up.we eventually needed police assistance to move the car from the far left of the highway to the far right (shoulder).the car had to be towed back to the dealership where we puchased it 9 days prior.there was gas in the car and no warning lights came on.the car stopped to the point of not being able to straighten it up with right rear in a lane of oncoming traffic.

The contact owns a 2005 jaguar s type . While attempting to accelerate from a complete stop, all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument control panel, and then the vehiclewent into limp mode . Usually she has to restart the vehicle to reset the error code. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the engines software was reset. The repair did not remedy the failure. The failure mileage was 27280. The current mileage was 34300.

Vehicle was returned on (three different occasions) to dealer in two different states to correct grinding sound near front wheels between november 2003 and june 2005.vehicle sprung a broken fuel line some time in late 2004. Vehicle rear brakes locked on freeway ramp july, 2005two weeks after dealer had installed new rear brake pads. The vehicle has too many defects in various areas for a three year old. My fear is that there is more to surface and i will be holding a lemon in the very near future.

Multiple power window regulator failures on year 2000 jaguar s-type 3.0; most recent incident occurred this october. Wrote to jaguar of america, which refused to accept this is due to a design flaw. Internet chat rooms full of similar stories of p/w regulator failure.

I was traveling in my car at approximately 30 mph.i slowed for a traffic light.as i was coming to a stop (right foot on the brake), the engine began to rev, the rear wheels started to turn propelling me forward.i placed both feet on the brake, pushed the brake to the floor, however the rpm gauge was moving to maximum and the car continued to propel me forward.the rear end started sliding to the left.i slammed the car into park and the tires stopped moving, the rpms dropped, and the electrical system shorted resulting in taking the radio offline and to station 600 am.i was able to avoid the stopped vehicle in front of me by 2 inches.this is the second time this has happened.the vehicle was evaluated approx 1 month ago for the same type of failure, but they were unable to reproduce the event.of note, on december 13, 2004, the vehicle went into reverse and would not come out of reverse.the vehicle was evaluated by the dealership, the gear shift was replaced, the trans cable bolt had fallen out, it was replaced, and the cable was adjusted.

The regulators brackets that hold windows are breaking for no reason, ending in damages worth over $500 including labor, to change the of the regulator is included...also the cheap plastic brackets on the headlamps break as well, once a vehicle hits a pot hole hard enough, lamp it self costs over $1000 not including the labor.

As seen at the following web site, http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s-type-15/how-headlight-repair-stype-faq-10745/, headlight leveling mechanisms on jaguar vehicles fail at a high rate causing the lights to only the ground approximately 20 feet around the vehicle. At over $1100 each, most owners opt to live with the unsafe condition rather than spend the money. The site shown above provides a home remedy, which may not be the safest recommendation. I have contacted jaguar na customer relations on several occasions and have been unable to sway them to do the right thing and replace the defective lighting mechanisms. The reduced lighting greatly reduces a drivers reaction time to a avoid road hazards, especially at higher rates of speed. Both mechanisms are currently broken on our vehicle at less than 20,000 miles.

I have an issue with the 'road leveling headlamps.'they motor down to such a position that i can no longer drive this vehicle safely after dark.the head lamps only project a few feet in front of the vehicle making it very dangerous to drive.i took this into the dealership, wilde jaguar of sarasota, who informed me that the cost to make this repair would be in excess of $3,000.00.i was also told that this was a common problem with this car.at a very minimum auto manufacturers should be required to ensure that the most basic of safety standards such as head lamps don't commonly fail.

I would like to start by sharing with you that i am a father, husband, friend and active member of the community that i am part of. Today, i am contacting you because i am extremely concerned about an issue that has occurred with our family car that we purchased only two months ago. I am concerned because i feel that driving this car presents a high danger and can cause a tragic accident harming not just me, but my children whom i drive to anf from school, my wife and friends and other fellow drivers who drive on the same streets and highways i do. The details of my concern and complain are as follows and i hereby request that your organization investigate this matter until the cause of it as well as the permanent resolution is found and reached for the benefit of all the drivers on the road - who are not just drivers but also parents, children, siblings, spouses and friends to those in their lives. In the two months i have owned a 2005 s type jaguar, i have had to take it to the dealer twice with the same problem which the jaguar mechanics have not been able to figure out the root cause of.the issue involves the car shutting down right in the middle of the street without warning. The dealer has told me that the fuel system/pump is failing on the car, however, they are not able to determine what causes the fuel pump system to fail. Since i have taken the car now twice in two months, the dealer is telling me that they will not fix it again if the fuel system fails. I am extremely concerned because the dealer/manufacturer now does not want to take ownership of the issue and identify and correct the root cause of the problem which i found out through an attorney is a known problem for these cars and there was actually had a recall under nhtsa's campaign id number: 06v418000.

2005 jaguar s. Consumer writes in regards to recall on gas tank. The consumer stated he was only able to fill the tank half way.

Gasoline vapors very strong at all times.when fueling vehicle gas would leak out from under the vehicle.check engine light illuminated at all time.restricted performance indicator light illuminated when attempting to accelerate greater than 35 miles per hour with extreme hesitation.i researched the recall and was instructed my particular vin# did not qualify. When i tried to start the vehicle, it would not start.there was a heavy fuel leak onto the ground, coming from underneath the vehicle.this occurred only when the ignition was turned on.i had the vehicle towed to the jaguar dealer and repair shop.the repairman disconnected the fuel pump power, pushed the vehicleinto the shop, raised the vehicle using the hoist and inspected the fuel line.he found the fuel line was completely disconnected at the coupler in the middle of the vehicle.the repairman stated there was no damage to the belly pan or the fuel line so he has no idea why this happened.

My car starting leaking gasoline after filling up the tank.i have spent the last 8 months trying to get jaguar to supply a retainer ring to my original fuel tank.i know that my fuel tank was covered by recall campaign#06v418000.according to jaguar they say they already checked my tank for leaks in 2007 and then reinstalled the original tank.i also know that subsequently the fuel tank was redesigned and the parts for the redesigned tank do not fit on the original defective tank (this includes the retainer ring).since this is a safety issue i would like your input on how to proceed to ensure jaguar will correct this dangerous issue with the fuel tank leak that should be replaced by the government mandated recall.

The contact owns a 2005 jaguar s-type. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that there was a leak between the fuel tank and the fuel pump. As a result, the seal, ring and a clamp needed to be replaced. Fuel smell inside vehicle when tank filled. Engine warning light on. Contacted jaguar customer service and jaguar dealer in tampa fl. Both said vehicle had been fixed in april 2007 under jaguar recall r 176 and nhtsa 06v418000 and , sorry about your luck, was nothing they could do about it ! problem has been continuous since then and is only avoided by filling tank to 3/4 or less .i believe that there are many of this model out there where a fix has been done but theoriginal recall fault reappears after time constituting a safety hazard..

On 08/05/2005 the car was first presented for a scheduled 10,000 mile maintenance to jaguar of south bay, 3111 pacific coast highway, torrance, ca. Since then, the car has been returned to them for more than 8 (eight) times, without satisfactory repair. Problems include:faulty gas tank latch, rhs exhaust hanging lower and scraping pavement, hard transmission shifts, faulty remote transmitter, judder from steering wheel, knocking noise from the engine that ran sluggish, replaced rack & pinion several times, car out of alignment, injectors dirty, rhs lug nut broken because of, according to tech., non lubrication at factory, jerky gear shifting from 3rd. To 4th. Gears, creaking noise in sunroof and headliner, faulty cd player, faulty power steering pump, faulty air bag light on dash, faulty passenger side fog lamp, faulty rack and pinion valve, leaking washer fluid reservoir, no warnings or messages during these malfunctions from dash instruments, except air bag lamp, faulty bluetooth hands free, etc.etc.we had told the techs. That both my wife and i have experienced total loss of steering control over 5 times and finally on 08/07/2006, i again loss total control and the car hit into the guard rail and scraped the whole of the rhs of the vehicle. Jaguar would not even give me the free tow that i was entitled to when i called them to inform of the accident and i had to drive the car to my house. I had both my kids ( son 31/2 yrs. Old and daughter 4 months old) in the car with me. On 05/10/2006, we hired an attorney who is still negotiating with ford motor co. Who have taken over jaguar.

The contact owns a 2005 jaguar s type. The contact smelled fuel fumes within the vehicle and noticed the check engine light illuminating.after adding fuel to the vehicle it began to spill underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and after inspection he was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. He was also informed two years prior of nhtsa recall campaign 06v418000, fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly. The vehicle was repaired per the recall; however, they advised him they will not repair the vehicle again under the recall instead he would have to pay the repairs cost of $4,200. The manufacturer was contacted and stated the fuel tank was replaced previously and they will not replace it again. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 47,000.

A strong smell of gas is evident in the cabin of the car when driving and it's been getting worse. After the gas tank is filled, it gets to the point where the vapors are making my families eyes water and we have to open all of the windows/sunroof and it's still bad. I have worked on many of my own cars in the past and i can tell you -it's a good thing i don't smoke because this car would have exploded. The vapors are that strong and i'm amazed there is no evidence of gas leaking out of the car, which would be extremely flammable. I've researched my car's history today, as we just got our car repaired and the problem is worse. I found out about recall r176which is due to defective gas tanks and mine should have been replaced. But jaguar(ford) only repaired my tank seals during the recall. This evidently didn't work and now this failure is putting my family in harms way. I just spent more than $1,000 trying to remedy the problem, before i knew there was a recall as the dealer did not inform me there was a recall when i directly asked whether the warping gas tanks (as he explained) were ever recalled. Why should any car's gas tank need replacing due to warping??? i read my repair receipt from yesterday and the service department only replaced one seal and "re-fit" the other. This is not how you repair a car, they didn't fix it. They put it back together with the same parts on one side. Now the gas tank has been repaired twice by the dealer since the recall, i'm out more than $1,000 because the dealer didn't accept responsibility that their fix didn't work and now i'm left driving a potential fire hazard.

I have had my 2005 jaguar s-type since about 2011.but since then i have noticed that every time i fill the gas tank it leaks, which i always thought it was over fill.but now i realized it was not.i took it to a auto shop who told me it has a gas leak from the gas tank.he mentioned that jaguars had a recall on the gas tank and that this one may have been done wrong since the fix did not work and it was still leaking.i contacted the dealer who said that the gas tank was replaced by the recall in 2007 but since it was still leaking i would have to contact the manufacture (jaguar motors) to see if the fix was covered under the recall since it may have not fixed the leak.i was told by the dealer that it may have been not sealed correctly but only jaguar motors could approve them to reseal or replace the gas tank.i called them and they were very rude (terrence) saying it was done in 2007 and they had nothing to do with it any more.i told terrence the recall didn't work and the car is still dangerous.he said jaguar replaced the tank and that is all they had to do. I told them that it was not done right because it was still leaking and he said it was my problem not theirs. I am wondering how dangerous is this car and shouldn't jaguar fix their recalls correctly to meet recall standards?i am also wondering what i can do...

2005 jaguar s-type r fuel tank recallfuel tank has large evap leak, had to remove fuel tank to find where the leak was during a smoke test.fuel tank had been replaced during a recall in 2007, now that tank has a large crack on one of the fuel modules on top of tank the not only leaks fuel/vapors but also illuminates "check engine light".jaguar says they have complied with the recall and is now a replacement at owners expense even though jaguar issued technical bulletin r176nas5 on aug. 18, 2014that re-identifies this issue and assigns a new fuel tank conversion kit to fix the band-aid that was done in 2007. This fault causes state inspection failure thus unable to register vehicle rendering vehicle useless not to mention unsafe to drive with a fuel/vapor leak constantly present.another recall for the defective tanks used during the initial recall 06v4180000 date 10-31-2006 should be implemented as this conversion kit is quite costly.

Gas tank is leaking the say it is not included in there recall

My wife's 2005 jaguar s-type r leaks fuel, and is worst after refilling the tank. The car frequently loses all engine power while driving with no warning. It frequently refuses to restart, and then i have to have it towed sometimes at great distances from home at a cost of over $700 to my repair shop in virginia. My wife is now too afraid to drive the car because of the gas fumes, fear of a fire, and sudden engine failure. My service technician at mountain valley motors believes the problem has to do with a faulty jaguar fuel system.

Same issue as campaign 06v418000.check engine light illuminated and dealer has advised that the fuel tank seals are leaking vapor.dealer also informed that the cause may be a warped fuel tank and that jaguar is no longer manufacturing this part.

After engaging reverse, the transmission froze. The transmission would not shift from reverse and into drive or any other gear. The vehicle had to be towed to the shop. The diagnosis was "[transmission] cable selector bolts backed out." the vehicle was repaired after the installation of new selector cable bolts. Had these bolts come loose while driving on a busy street, a serious crash would have occurred. I have just read where other jaguar owners have also reported this malfunction to nhtsa and decided to report it, too.

I could not get the car into reverse when trying to back up to turn around in a residential driveway.the car had to be towed on a flat-bed truck because the car would not engage in any gear or start, once the engine was turned off.the bolt holding the gear box to the transmission had become stripped and had to be replaced and the gear shifter cable had to be "secured."

Very quick wear down of rear brake pads, rotors, and rear tires.

When applying the brake pedal, the car accellerated and continued to accellerate, for approximately 30 feet, until hitting one cement firewall broadside on the driver's side of the vehicle and then going through another cement firewall after hitting it head on.

The contact owns a 2005 jaguar s-type. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the driver shifted into reverse and the vehicle experienced unexpected acceleration. The vehicle sped over a curb and crashed into a wooden deck. The passenger side wheel detached from the vehicle. A police report was filed. The passenger was injured, taken to the hospital via ambulance, treated, and discharged the same day. The police confiscated the license of the driver. The vehicle was towed to a body shop. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,700.

The contact owns a 2005 jaguar st3.while idling at a stop light, with the his foot on the brake and the vehicle in drive, the consumer stated the vehicle spontaneously began accelerating.the contact had to place the vehicle into neutral to prevent it from moving.the risk of a serious crash was increased.he took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not determine the cause of the failure and provide a remedy.the technician forwarded the case to the other engineers for further assessment.the manufacturer referred the contact to the dealer.the failure and current mileages were 29,500. Updated 3/19/09 updated 03/26/09.

After setting the cruise control while going down an incline consumer was citedby a policeman for going 100 mph. Consumer later contactedthe manufacturer.he was told that the cruise control only worked on level ground not on inclines. The owner's manual should contain this.....nothing in the manual indicates that cruise control does not work on downhill. This problem can cause unaware driver's serious accidents.

Multiple power window regulator failures on year 2000 jaguar s-type 3.0; most recent incident occurred this october. Wrote to jaguar of america, which refused to accept this is due to a design flaw. Internet chat rooms full of similar stories of p/w regulator failure.
