In a car crashairbags did not deploy.
The horn operated intermittently.
I own a 99 isuzu amigo with a 3.2l v6. The rod and main bearings have gone causing it to knock real bad. Car cannot be driven anymore.
My isuzu amigo (1999 4wd) stopped dead in traffic while driving with a lot of traffic. I was scared to death and almost hit in multiple directions. The car would not start, would not move, and i had to have it towed on a flatbed truck. I was incredibly traumatized by this incident, and very nearly killed by the semi-truck directly behind me. After contacting multiple persons from isuzu motors, they assured me that this had happened in most of the engines they had put in this vehicle. They also told me that if i was the original owner, they would fix it, regardless of warrenty, but since i was the second owner, they would not help me at all. Since this was such a common problem, not to mention such a safety issue, i thought they would have been a little more helpful.
Vehicle shut off without prior warning. Dealershipwas aware of problem.
While driving vehicle stalled without warning, also could not control vehicle until turning it off, contacted dealer and dealer stated there was nothing they could do.
The timing belt broke on the vehicle ruining the entire moto. The timing belt was a recall item and was replaced at around 20000 miles. The belt broke now at 70,000 miles. The vehicle has not been repaired in that it needs an entire motor at a cost of $4000.
Fuel sending unit failing prematurely.i've only put 60k miles on the truck and this is turning out to be a common problem with this model of truck (1999 isuzu amigo 4wd v6 automatic).
Purchased a used 99 isuzu amigo v6 4x4, and the fuel gage is not reading correctly.when you fill up it will only read full for about 5 miles then it goes back and forth from empty flashing, to full.when you think it is almost empty and you go to fill it up you usually only get to put in 4-6 gallons then its full again...for the next 5 miles.by my calculations i am only getting 10 miles to the gallon, when i should be getting 17.
1999 isuzu amigo. Fuel injectors failing even though vehicle has low milage. I know of another incident with a 1999 isuzu rodeo with milage in low 30,000. My milage is 53,000. This problem is ~$500 problem. These injectors should last over 100,000 miles
We just recently purchased out '99 isuzu amigo v6 4x4. The fuel sending unit is going out on it and it is impossible to tell how much fuel we actually have in there. The vehicle only has 55k miles on it.
Fuel sending unit failed prematurely. Dealer's service dept. Told me this was common! vehicle had 75,000 miles when unit failed.
Dt: the contact says that he got into vehicle and put it in drive. The accelerator revved ,and the tires began to spin out. The vehicle moved about 10 feet.vehicle veered so badly that it wore the back brakes completely out. Contact took the vehicle to his mechanic, and they said they didn't see a problem for the contact to go ahead and drive the vehicle. And since he has three children he feels that the vehicle is unsafe to drive because the vehicle starts accelerating without any warning. He feels that this is a safety defect. The mechanic still has the vehicleat the shop and they said they were not finding anything wrong with the vehicle. Contact states that this is very unsafe ,and the dealer says that he has never heard of anything like this before, but they are willing to give him another vehicle.
Vehicle had a problem of jumping out of park and rolling backwards sincetaking ownership of vehicle.on july 24th, 2001,vehicle jumped out of gear and rolled into a parked vehicle.dealership has examinedvehicle and could not duplicate the problem. Consumer states transmission is to be replaced august 20th.
The vehicles transmissionfailed which caused the clutch to burn out continuously.*nlm
Consumer states thatseat belts lock up with consumer pushing on the brakes. Dealer notified.
While driving, the front passenger seat belt will lock in to place and tighten with every notch that it goes back into the holding place on the side wall. It will not unlock until it is taken off and put completely back in to the holding place. It happens no matter what speed, if brakes are applied or not, or if stopped. We also own a 98 of the same model and it happens with that one also.
Pulling into a parking space at low speed i put on the brakes and heard a grinding noise and the brakesfailed.i crashed into a concrete wall, causing front-end damage to my car. The body damage was repaired (5/20-6/03/04) and the car was sent to the dealer to diagnose the problem. Dealer stated that they could not find a problem with the brakes (6/02-6/03). The body shop went to pick up the vehicle (6/04) and when the porter drove it to the front, the brakes failed and he crashed. The dealership called the isuzu engineers and were told to pull the master cylinder off. They said when they did that the piston was stuck to the booster causing and intermittent brake problem. Dealer made all repairs at their cost and called me to pick up the car on friday (6/11). I drove the car and on wednesday morning (6/16) the brakes failed and i called the dealer to pick up the car. The dealer rep called me on friday (6/18) and said that i had to replace my rear brakes because they were not isuzu parts (i had them done at another mechanic, not long ago) and also the abs module (which i replaced already at my cost on 6/07/02). The dealer said the car was working fine and returned it to me on friday (6/25).i did not actually take the car back until the following friday, because the dealer had scratched the door and needed to repair. I picked the car up on friday (07/02) and drove it home and parked it in my garage. On monday (07/05), i backed out of the garage and the brakes made the same grinding noise and failed to work. I pumped them until they stopped and then pulled back into the garage to park it and they failed a second time causing me to crash into the garage wall. I had a friend with me who witnessed everything and was somewhat sore after the accident. I called the dealer to pick up the car and the said they were having an isuzu engineer flow in to look at the car. That is where i stand so far, $1470.16 out of my pocket and i still don't have my car.
My 99 isuzu amigo was in a crash in 6/03 when a driver turned left at an intersection in front of my isuzu.brakes were forcibly applied on the isuzu, but it didn't stop.a 16-mth old in the turning car was fatally injured & later died.others were hurt & my isuzu was totaled.isuzu sent mea note 7/03 that stated the brakes require longer than normal stopping distance & should be replaced.i researched & found isuzu knew of the defective brakes in 6/02, when they announced they were upgrading them.neither isuzu nor ge capital (the financing company) ever notified me until the 7/03 note from isuzu.instead of addressing this, and the risk i may be sued by the other cars driverge & their attorney is demanding i pay $18m on top of $11m they already got from my insurer.ge ignores an agreement we reached in 2002 whendue to deceptive sales tactics by isuzus salesmanthey accepted a deposit stolen from me by the salesman & payments i made under duress as payment in full.this was reached when ge learned the dealership fired the salesman after they investigated and confirmed my report of the deceptive/faked contract.per our agreement, ge was to send me the title & was to report the contract paid in full to credit bureaus.ge reported full payment to the bureaus, but never sent me the title.by keeping the title, ge was able to misrepresent themselves as lienholder & got my insurer to pay theminstead of me$11m in funds & salvage for my isuzu.and now ge is demanding $18m from meall in spite of our 2002 agreement.i wrote ge & american isuzu motors advising that their negligence in the defective brakes killed a baby & injured others.i also requested reimbursement of $11m, vehicle replacement & damage costs.ge & isuzu ignored my letter. Ge continues, with their attorney, pursuing me for $18m.please recall 98/99 isuzus to prevent more people from being killed by the negligence of isuzu & ge.
While driving on a curve at 20 mphbrakes failed upon application.brake pedal went straight to the floor, causing the vehicle to run off the road and into a ditch. The dealer was not contacted.
A vehicle stoped in front of me, i hit the brakes, heard a grinding noise near the brake pedal, hit the rear of the vehicle in front of me. There were no skid marks at the scene.
When driving and applying brakes forcefully abs is only functioning on 1 side of vehicle.stopping distance is greatly extended, and vehicle skids.brake pedal will sink to the floor, and car will shake from side to side.consumer has narrowly avoided 3 collisions due to abseffectiveness.
Dt:the contact stated the abs activated at low speeds.while driving at5 mph on slippery roads the contact's vehiclerear ended another vehicle during emergency braking.the abs activation resultedin extendedstopping distance.there was structural damageto the front end of the vehicle.the abs continued to activate at low speeds.on october 14, 2005 the contact receivednhtsarecall campaign 02i002000.the parts needed to repair the vehicle were not available at the local dealership.the manufacturer confirmed the partswerenot available.
Nhtsa# 02-i-002-000: the vehicle experienced extended stopping distance, there was a recall regarding the issue.
While waiting to have the abs recall 02i002000 repairsperformed thevehicle experienced brake failure which resulted in an accident.
Consumer noticed that the abs light is illuminating on the dashboard.contacted the dealer to further analyze the situation.
The abs light came on.when i turned the car off, the engine would not turn off.i found out later that it was the abs system and i had to remove the fuse.when i took my car into the dealership they new exactly what this was and he went on to tell me that they had 3 of the same problems yesterday and 1 more that morning.after doing some investigation i noticed that a lot of 1999 rodeos also have had the same problem.i was extremely lucky that my car was still under warranty.otherwise i would have had to pay 325$ for the new abs system + labor. I find it hard to believe that they are not recalling this part after so many people having the same problem with there abs.this needs to stop!if your car acts the same as mine did, check out the 1999 rodeos and 1999 passports.all have of them have the same problem.it is about time isuzu did something about this problem!!!nlm
The abs failed, which caused the vehicle to experience extended stopping distance.
When coming to a complete stop, and when applying the brakes the abs system fails to work properly over a rough surface.which has almost caused a collision.when taken to the dealership, the foreman tried to explain to me that this is normal for this vehicle.this stikes me as odd since the problem just recently begun.the dealership has done nothing to correct the problem.
The abs system in my truck engages at times when it should not and dramatically reduces stopping distance.on sept 6th this resulted in my crashing into a light pole causing some major damage.pictures of the damage may be viewed on my website, http://www.geocities.com/treading_lightly/damage.htmlthis abs system has caused quite a few close calls for me.once, it engaged when slowing down for a tollbooth on the pennsylvania turnpike.when my tires hit a wet metal expansion joint in the booth lane, the abs engaged and i went right thru.this abs system is way too sensitive and dangerously unsafe.
The abs light illuminated on 6/24/2003.after shutting the vehicle off a humming noise was heard.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that vehiclewas on recall, but the recall was done is stages.the consumerwas not to be notified until august 2003.the dealer required the consumer to pay for the recall repair.
At this time the car is in the shop, so i'm unaware yet of all things wrong.i do know that while in drive mode, and with the brake pressed, the car momentarily cut out and lunged forward.the clock reset itself at random.
Problems with brake equipment on 1999 isuzu amigo.*mrthe consumer stated as she applied the brakes to stop at a light, the brakes failed to respond, which caused the consumer to rear end the vehicle in front of her.the consumer complained in the past about a problem with the brakes.
While traveling at any speed abs system would kick in through travel.
The anti-lock brake system failed completely and did not regain pressure.dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective valve in the abs module.
Consumer received recall 021-002-000, concerning abs control unit/module failure. The recalled part needed to be replaced since the recall was done.vehicle did not stop in time, and there was a grinding noise every time brakes were pressed.grinding noise when braking in gravel bumps on the road or when the road is slippery.also, stopping distance was extended. *la
While driving down the road at 30 mph, with three children ages 2, 8, and 11, in the vehicle the rear suspension gave out n broke thumping along the road, as my steering wheel veered to the right, yet my vehicle remained going straight without being able to be controlled. My mechanic was able to get the car the one mile to my home going at a speed of 5mp or less as there was no wheel control. After contacting isuzu regarding the rear suspension recall, even though i was the registered owner at time of recall i was never notified, isuzu had my vehicle towed to closest dealer where it was deemed irreparable, isuzu then took over a week to contact me regarding buying back my truck as a remedy to the problem, then requested a copy of my title, which i sent, then wanted a copy of my registration, which i sent, and now are asking for my bill of sale, which i gave the only copy of to the nysdmv, initially i was only told i needed my title, now needing extra documents, that i cannot furnish without extreme hassle, and also are very irresponsible, as they only have one contact number for all of north america, and only one representative answering the phone, the situation is very disheartening knowing me and my children could have died had the suspension let go 5 minutes prior when we were traveling at 60mph on the thruway, i need answers as they have recalled this part for faulty manufacturing yet are not doing anything to justify the problem.
While drivingvehicle shook uncontrollably. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.mechanic determined that the solenoid switch needed to be replaced.

The transmission subframe on my 1999 isuzu amigo rotted and broke off. Inspection of the undercarriage shows much of the subframe components are rusted through as is some of the frame.
The contact owns a 1999 isuzu amigo. The contact stated that the frame was corroded and began to deteriorate. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v306000 (suspension); however, the dealer could not complete the repairs due to excessive corrosion. The manufacturer was not notified. Hello i am the owner of a isuzu amigo i didn't know about the damage to the undercarriage until after i bought it. 10-7-2012 i brought it to my personal mechanic when i found the damage on 10-24-12. After that, i found out about the recall, and sent the car to a dealer, isuzu claims the recall has already been taken care of by the previous owner, and the excessive rust and damage is not covered by the recall. The dealership and my private mechanic say this car is not safe to drive, and the gas tank may fall out as a result of the rust damage, the transmission support is rusted badly and the brake lines are in bad shape as well. I was hoping they were going to just buy the car back from me as stated in the recall letter, i cant believe they say this damage is not covered. I know the car isn't new, but this rust is unbelievable. Before i knew about the recall, i had it looked at and was told, that even if the parts are available, there isn't enough good metal to weld the new parts in. And was advised not to drive it. I am hoping you may have some advice and guidance for me. I am stuck now with an unsafe car. That i would never be able to sell to someone else. Isuzu did admit to part of this excessive rustby honoring the first and second recalls, they have to realize there is more. I'm sure the dealer was instructed to only verify the parts listed in the recall and ignore the rest, as it is not covered , but out of concern for my safety they strongly suggested i have this car towed out of the lot.i guess the only way for isuzuto notice is if i drive this car until something breaks off, and i get into an accident. I cant afford another car right now. And i can't sell this one. Please help!
While on the internet i was searching for a dealer for my above listed car and discovered a recall dated last year for states with use of corrosive material in winter which includes nebraska but not listed on recall (which may be because very few isuzu cars were sold in this state in fact the dealer told me at time of sale i had one of two of 1999 amigos in staterod rodden dealership 84 & f now a kia dealershipi called the customer service and spoke with a lady that told me there was nothing they could do because i missed the deadline (even thought i was not notified because i did not live in the listed states which included iowa and missouri but not nebraska although we use same materials for safety)she told me my vehicle was perfectly safe and when i asked if i could record that for future in if i am injured in a traffic accident because of this problem she hung up on mei then called back and the man asked my name when i told him he told me he could not talk to me because i may record the conversation and then he hung up on me.great customer service!so now i am very concerned and have no place to turn but you.closer dealership now 10 miles away.
The rear frame of my amigo is completely rotted out making it unsafe to drive. I just purchase the truck in feb of 2011 and had brand new tires installed.that's when i was told by the mechanic that it was unsafe to drive. If this can't be fixed i'm out $4000 and don't have a safe car to drive. This was not a nice way to start my retirement.
Found out my vehicle has rearframe corrosion and track bar mount almost gone from rust. Was noticed when having tires changed. Saw recall and read customer letter online (never received notice of recall). Called isuzu customer service and was told recall no longer applies due to time. The letter says within one year of notification. If i wasn't notified shouldn't i still have a year to get this recall done?. Now i have a very unsafe vehicle that they refuse to repair for faulty manufacturing. How are we as consumers supposed to have a recall done within their time limit without being notified? what can we do and who do we need to contact to resolve this issue? this isn't the first complaint of lack of service for this recall.
The contact owns a 1999 isuzu amigo. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the vehicle became very unstable. The failure mileage was 140,000.

Contact was driving down a side road at 20mph when the contact heard a loud clunk and immediately lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle spun out of control and onto a curb where once stopped they were able to drive it into a parking lot but only in four wheel drive. Once inspected, it was determined that the rear part of the frame was so badly rusted that the rear driver side trailing arm and mount broke off the frame causing the rear axle to shift back in forth uncontrollably. When taken to a frame repair shop and state certified welder the frame and mounts were deemed beyond repairable and the vehicle completely unsafe to drive. Upon further inspection the rear frame was rusting out so bad that it was that it was no longer structurally sound. This is the same issue that isuzu recalled the 98-2002 rodeos in which were stationed in the nations salt belt. Many other owners are also having this same issue with the amigo's. This needs to be investigated as these vehicles in the salt belt are not safe to drive.
General maintenance update.the isuzu dealer has applied an anti-rust solvent to lower stabilizer arm brackets according to directions in the recall rememedy requirement.however, the entire length of the car frame is potted with large rust holes.i have had some of the reachable holes welded.i have had additional support brackets welded into the frame to strengthen the badly rotted axle and shock mount points.i have applied a rust encapsulation product to the interior of the entire length of the frame, and rust converter products to the exterior of the frame.this is my daily driver.a catastrophic frame failure is inevitable.but, it can be prevented.the auto manufacturer needs to have new frames available to amigo owners who wish to purchase them.please keep me updated on this vehicle.

The contact owns a 1999 isuzu amigo. The contact stated while driving 35 mph he suddenly depressed the brakes and the rear control arm brackets ripped apart from the frame. He heard a noise and began losing control of the steering wheel. He drove the vehicle to his home and after inspecting it he noticed that the rear control arm was dragging on the ground. The vehicle is now un-repairable and cannot be driven. The manufacturer was contacted and stated his vehicle was not covered under nhtsa campaign id recall 00v058000,suspension rear and offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 180,000.
Hello,i took my 1999 isuzu amigo on august 18, 2012 to my mechanic that has been authorized by isuzu to diagnose the safety recall issued under the safety recall notice in july (nhtsa campaign id number: 12v306000). The inspection of the area specified under the recall disclosed very little rust and that the minimum service (classified by isuzu as condition 1) will apply. I was relieved and happy about the news. However, during the inspection, my mechanic noticed a significant rust issue with the rear interior bumper reinforcement (hidden underneath the exterior rubber rear bumper and only is visible when on a car lift). It was extremely rusted through and provided no protection to the amigo in the event of a rear collision. I instructed the mechanic to locate a replacement part and the replacement repair should be performed in a week.in talking to my mechanic, he has seen this frequently with isuzu amigos/rodeo sports, geo/chevy trackers, and suzuki vitaras (not the grand vitaras). It is the result of the salting of the roads (again, similar to the current isuzu amigo recall), and water accessing the area during the rain. I plan to have the new part rust proofed before having it installed to avoid this issue in the future. However, i believe this is an issue that should be looked into given it is a safety issue as it affects the rear bumper.i hope i provided enough information for you.

At this time the car is in the shop, so i'm unaware yet of all things wrong.i do know that while in drive mode, and with the brake pressed, the car momentarily cut out and lunged forward.the clock reset itself at random.
Since 2 weeks after purchase, we have had the following ongoing problems with this vehicle:the engine surges and revs to over 2,000 rpms suddenly and unexpectedly causing the vehicle to lurch forward, most times when coming to a stop.we must concentrate on keeping our foot securely on the brake in order to keep the vehicle from lunging into the rear of a vehicle ahead or into a crosswalk.

Plastic knobs the hold the sunroof plastic cover are liable to break easily. I have one broken under normal use. Isuzu policy is not to replace the knob but to force the owner to buy the whole plastic cover, which is expensive. Owners are liable to use the cover with one knob which represents a hazard for the cover can collapse on top of the driver if the remaining plastic knob fails.
