Takata recall
The low rider rear tires were making loud noises - rear left went flat - cheap tires because the belts were showing through the tire - got towed to bangor, maine to nearest dealership - they replaced the faulty tire and told me the left one was also showing through the belts. So every 27685 miles i'll need to pay $390.00 ?? that's right, they charged me that much for two tires and no this is not an escalade, (free towing from perry me) 120 miles to bangor woweee !!!told them the air bag notification light came on they turned it off, it was off for a short time - its back on.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, she crashed into the vehicle in front of her. The air bags did not deploy during the crash. The contact injured her neck, back, and suffered bruising from the crash. The police took and report and the vehicle was towed to an auto repair shop. The vehicle had not been inspected. The failure and current mileages were 5,300.
Hyundai veloster 2012 - travelling in left lane of divided 4 lane highway at 65mph, braked and slightly veered to left suddenly as vehicle in right lane moved into left lane in front at slower rate of speed. With very little left shoulder, vehicle went off the road into the grassy damp median. Due to loss of traction, was difficult to control vehicle, had choice of hitting trees/creek or concrete bridge support. Vehicle hit bridge support still traveling at 45-65mph head on, then swung around so left side of passenger vehicle scraped on the bridge support from front bumper to rear seat. Vehicle suffered major damage to front end, tore off mirror, door handle and broke all glass on left side.airbags did not deploy anywhere in the vehicle.driver was struck by an object in vehicle causing a severe laceration across eyelid from nose, up across eyebrow. About 1.5" long, cut to bone.side window glass shattered resulting in several pieces embedding in various body parts and many sharp slivers of glass all over. Had airbags deployed, particularly the steering wheel airbag, we feel that the driver may have avoided the injury to the eye which will require reconstructive surgery to repair. Wiper washer stalk broke off from steering wheel with the outer portion completely coming apart with a 2-3" protruding plastic core which we believe caused the eye injury due to blood on the item. Other possibility would be the rearview mirror.in either case we feel that air bag deployment would have prevent face from contacting either of those items.

Airbag light has been on for a couple days. After thorough research, other hyundai models have experienced the same problem with the airbag and is under recall. However, my vehicle is not. I proceeded to go get diagnostic testing, which confirmed that the airbag malfunction is the same as other vehicles. My vehicle was in motion when the notice first appeared.
On friday october 23 a drunk driver lost control of his 2011 camaro crossed the median on a city street and barreled into my sons 2012 hyundai veloster. While the camaro air bags inflated, our veloster did not. According to hyundai diagram there are two sensors in the front drivers side, neither worked. Though my son and his passenger walked away, i am concerned that these sensors/air bags are defective and should be looked into. Our vehicle was pushed back several feet after the impact and they did not deploy. I am concerned about the safety of these vehicles protecting lives. One of the reasons i bought this car was due the many airbags. I am disappointed and concerned about this possible defect...updated 12/11/15
The date of 4/20/15 is the latest time(or by the way i have to wait till 5/22/15 to bring it in.... First day they had room for me......this is going to be the 4th time they have replace(over the past 2 years) the (97250-2v010-blh control assy-heat) because the fan dial don't work on 3 or 4 positions.when it gets real bad it don't work at all. The dealer is giving me a hard time because they have to replace again..... This is a common problem ... And it needs to be fixed.... And when the customer brings it in with this problem they should just say they are sorry and fix it.
My 2012 hyunday veloster keeps shut off on the highway and start right back after 2 minuresit is very unsafe .

Car often fails to start when turning the ignition key. The lights, and radio turn on when the ignition key is in, but when i turn the key to start i hear a click and the car is dead. If i repeat this several times the car may start normally. The problem stated several weeks ago. I have gone to the dealer twice. The first time they claimed it was the battery. They changed the battery (it cost me $100). This solved the problem for 2-3 days (or perhaps it was the warmer weather, see below). A week later the problem came back and the engine light came on. They replaced the oxygen sensor. This fixed the engine light issue. The car was ok for a day. The problem with failing start is back and it is getting worst. Yesterday it took me 5 minutes in the morning and 25 minutes at night to start the car.i got the feeling that the problem worsens in cold weather (i told that to the dealer the first time i brought it in, but they just ignored me). Each time i took it to the dealer the whether happened to be warmer (above 0 celsius). Last couple of days the temperature was below -3 celsius. Yesterday i parked the car inside my garage. This morning, with a temperature +4 celsius in my garage, the car started at the first try. I waited 10 minutes and tried again and the car again started at the first try.i will go to the dealer again this weekend. I tried different ways of starting the car with no success (1-clutch engaged and first, 2-clutch engaged and neutral, 3-neutral and no clutch, 3-different variations of radion on/off, as well as heater fan on, or off.the following may have been there always but now i notice since i am more aware of car sounds. There is a beeping sound when i enter the key and turn the dashboard on. That beeping sound last for about 10 seconds and ends with a click. The same happens after the car engine is turn off.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that the push to start button failed to start the vehicle. On several occasions, it was difficult to turn the vehicle off by using the push to start button. The contact stated that the failure caused the radio and the back up camera to become inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the battery needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,871. Updated 06/29/16*lj
Vehicle would not start. Smart junction box was found to be faulty due to a short in the wiring harness. In addition to the wiring harness needing to be repaired, the battery needed to be replaced. Was not covered under the warranty or extended warranty.
When stopped at lights the engine dies multiple times. Also while driving the car jerks like it is going to stall
Vehicle experienced intermittent issues with ac function before stopping altogether along with the ac control knob making a grinding noise.after a few days i noticed a burning plastic smell and investigated behind the removable center panel of the dash and discovered the wiring harness connected to the backside of the control knob had experienced melting enough to deform and char the wiring harness end along with the backside of the ac control knob.no safety recall has been issued for this issue and a google search not only will show many others with identical problems but any photos appear to mirror the damage mine received.hyundai of america reached out and stated that they have no intention to look into or cover the damage.this is an issue that could have not only burned my car down but also pose a risk for life and property around me.this is not normal wear and tear but a fault that seemingly is going unaddressed.
Car has began doing this often now. At 115k miles. Start the car, put it in drive, car won't move. Put it in reverse. Same issue. Have to turn the car off and on and repeat until it moves. Occasionally i'll stop at a stop sign and go to move after stopping and again, it won't move. Engine just revs. Have to repeat above until it moves. Replaced camshaft sensor and knock sensor. Didn't fix it. Now the car dies while in park and stalls between 15-2000 rpm. There are several forums with the same issues and no one has a solid answer. And no recall. Insane. Taking it to hyundai and considering a lawsuit with my evidence and all the other forums and complaints.
Check engine light is blinking. Car is less than one year old . 108,000 miles.i put 8,000 on it. Car lights go out after replacing , steering column, electrical issues , oil in spark plugs , fuel line seems clogged , emergency brake doesn't hold every time, ect taking to hyundai in the morning. Dangerous.
Dealer says they can't replicate the problem. Vehicle has intermittent problems starting. When turning key in ignition, usually in colder weather in the mornings, vehicle will not start. There is just a 1-click sound per ignition cycle, but no ignition occurs. All lights come on dash, radio turns on, etc. Replaced battery due to failed battery test, but this did not fix the starter problem. I believe the starter assembly is starting to fail but the dealer has been very unhelpful. I drive a lot for work, especially to remote areas, and i'm going to get stranded eventually without any cell service.
Blower switch and wiring harness for the switch is not able to handle the current resulting in melting of the switch and harness.
While driving in tucson az, about 42 mph and with a/c running, i smelled a burnt scent in the cabin, the a/c shut off. When i tried to restart it, i switched the fan switch to another position and it started again, but it only worked in the 2 and 4 position. The next day the switch only worked in the 1 and 3 position, and now only in the 3 position. I removed the trim panel to see what might be wrong and saw a connector and wire connected to the fan switch discolored from heating up. I looked at the fan switch itself and it had melted on the inside. I decided to take pictures because something is shorting out in the head unit and could potentially cause a fire. I talked to hyundai (case#: 15918166) and they told me that they had to inspect the vehicle themselves and not go off the pictures, so don't alter any evidence. When i got down to hyundai, they wanted to charge me $140.00 to inspect, then that money would go towards the repair cost, estimation $500-$600. With the ext warranty expired by 3k, the entire cost would fall in my lap. I didn't have the money to pay for this my self, so i could let them inspect it until i could afford to repair the repair cost. I think this should be a recall since it is a fire safetyhazard and its evident happens on all the year models (according to the forum).
Vehicle fails to engage starter during start sequence. Tried battery booster jump but no change in condition. Car has full power to all lighting and gauges but will not engage starter, all you hear is a "click" sound from engine compartment.problem has been intermittent since car was towed to dealers on 11/25/13 for no start condition. Dealer was unable to duplicate problem but performed technical service updates to ecm & info ctr. Head unit. Frequency of problem has accelerated over past 4 days and now have to "pop start" the car by rolling it and letting out clutch in gear to start engine.this is a safety issue since the car can leave you stranded with no warning.
Glass and visibility problem: in feb. 2012 the large back glass (horizontal glass in the back door) in the car broke without any apparent reason.temperature was normal at the time and no outside object was found in the car.it was a dangerous situation and very expensive fix.hyundai company did not cover the repair cost under warranty.electrical problem: from june 2012 too present, there is error message popping out that bluelink is active but not registered.after almost 4 months of contacting the customer service and dealer ship they were not able to fix this error message.each time that i turn on the car, this message pups up which is distracting and dangerous.apparently this is a common error with new hyundai cars with bluelink.
I contacted hyundai motor of america to try to come to a resolution with an ongoing issue with veloster vehicles. Back in 2015, i had to have my hvac fan speed controller replaced due to it intermittently working. The controller was replaced in march of 2015 under manufacturer warranty. Now in december of 2016, the fan speed control started to show the same symptoms as before. Then one evening it stopped woking all together. Now, i am out of warranty by mileage, current vehicle mileage is 91000. I ended up taking apart the dash to inspect the failed part and found it to be melted/burnt. Once i found this, a couple days prior to total failure, i smelled and distinct plastic burning smell and i put it off as a vehicle that was in my close vicinity. But upon inspection, i found that it had in fact been my vehicle that smelled of burning plastic. This condition is exhibited while vehicle is stationary or in motion. I went looking around the countless veloster forums and found that this is a common issue with these vehicles. The blower motor fan speed control switch is not made in a fashion to handle the higher current of high speed fan position (hvac). The switch has caused the plug behind it to melt as well. I completely disassembled the switch and found multiple melting points/burn marks. The fuses in the vehicle for the blower motor are good. The blower motor itself is not pulling "excessive current". I have gone through and trouble shot the issue like any good technician would. This is when i contacted hyundai about the issue. I recently heard back from them that they are not willing to call me, look at failed parts, or offer any assistance for the repair of a flawed in design and manufacturer part. This can end up being a fire hazard if someone does what i originally did and just set the fan to work on high speed only and continue to drive the vehicle.
First crankshaft position sensor was bad now camshaft position sensor bad.
My 2012 hyundai veloster stall and have a funny smell my car stall at a red light had to call the police to get it off the road
Purchased car on 5/5/2012 with 6 miles on it. Within less than a week and 200 miles the transmission began clicking. Took it into hyundai and they stated it needed a new transmission. After 2 1/2 weeks the transmission was replaced as hyundai refused to give me a different car. Since then the car cannot accelerate, sounds "clunky" and when going at low speeds sounds like the gear isn't engaging and sounds/feels like it would if you released a clutch too early. Car loses power and sounds like it's about to die. A hissing and rattling sound under the hood happens as well. After taking it in to dealer, dealer states they could not find the sounds or noises or loss of power i was having. Rpms rev really high before engaging in first gear. Dealer still won't do anything since they can't diagnose it. I have almost been in multiple accidents for failure of power and car not accelerating. Takes about 3-5 seconds before it goes. Brakes grab too easily as well. Loss of gas mileage (around 6-7 mpg) was reported to dealer but dealer told me it was due to "winter gas." i can understand 2-3 mpg difference but 6-7 is too much. Car has also been in the shop for a week for the car alarm going off constantly for no reason. A piece of the windshield plastic also fell off for no reason when car was 3 weeks old. Dealer duct taped that part down until a new part could be ordered.
My car is having issues describing what is happening in the recall, the engine is louder than when i go out it sounds like you're knocking noise and i just got it in september. I need to speak with somebody about this since it's not listed on the recall
Car was off and parked. Drove home could not get trunk/tail gate open. Key flob did not work on trunk but did work on all side car doors. I had to climb into trunk thru back seat to get groceries out of car trunk. I am very close to being 72 years old and it was a complete struggle getting in and out of trunk thru back seat especially on slanted driveway.
The car started to rattle and started to not be able to accelerate. I pulled the car to the side of a semi busy road and let it sit for a moment while turned off and then after 30 seconds turned the car back on.i started to drive the car and turned down a residential road (rothrock circle copley, oh) and that is when things got really bad.the car was in motion and started to act even stranger. It had issues accelerating again and then while driving down the road the lunged forwardand then white smoke and flames came from under the cars front end. I jumped out of the car after turning it off, grabbed my personal items and ran off incase of an explosion. I called 911instantly and while on the phone with copley police my car was engulfed in flames. Firefighters came out and started to extinguish the flames but it was too late and the whole front of the car was melted, burned, and destroyed.
For the 4th time, my 2012 veloster literally shut off while being driven. It does not stall. It shuts off entirely. No electric. No power. No nothing. Luckily, this has only happened when doing under 15mph or stopped at a light. If this were to happen on a highway or at high speeds, it is quite certain that i would be in an accident as there would be no way to alert other motorists that my vehicle cannot be driven - there are no brake lights or anything when it shuts off. When it shuts off, it is in drive. It cannot be put back into park. I have to put it into neutral to restart it. It does restart without hesitation. I did take it to my local dealer once and they were not able to locate any problem. I have done research on this and see that hyundai has the same kind of problems most often with their santa fe models. I have checked to see if there has been a recall for this issue from hyundai, but so far they have not addressed this issue.
The speedometer does not tell you the speed you are actually going it is off 4 miles an hour at 20 then 5 miles at 40 and 6 miles at 60 and 7 miles at75 mph and so on up to 15 off at 140 mph you have to drive faster than you are suppose togo the actual speed limit this is very difficulty to keep track of as i am a disabled veteran who bought this car to get back and forth 300 miles to medical apptments.i am having problems getting hyundai to fix this they replaced the speedometer unit with a new one and now the odometer is off by 3641 miles. They are telling me that the speedometer is within acceptable limits if it is 5%off but it is more like 9 to 12 % off and they are not listening to me and are unwilling to help resolve the issue. How do i get this fixed as i know this is a safety hazard and they refuse to help me or to exchange the new car?
It started with my stability control light coming on and staying on. Then i noticed when at a stop it felt like i was pressing the brakes at the same time i was stepping on the accelerator. Then when it was dark my neighbor noticed my brake lights were on. I researched these three problems that appeared within the same day, and found that the "brake light switch" is causing all three issues. Also, goings recalls for other models of hyundai for this part but apparently not mine.
I was driving on the 10 freeway going west in tonopaugh, arizona.i heard a huge explosion and did not know what happened...if i was being shot at; the car exploded, a bomb went off or what.the sunroof was closed and in my hysterical position, i see glass flying all over the entire car...i had to get over several lanes to get off the freeway...i'm not sure how i got the composure to do this...however, i did get to the side of the freeway.the fact that i was not killed; or killed someone with this explosion of not only glass, but the parts to the sunroof is a miracle.i am now in therapy with pdst.this car was a recall car that i purchased two weeks prior to the accident.it was recalled for shattering sunroof glass...however, hyundai said that my car was not part of the recall. The damages came to over $10,000.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. While driving approximately 60 mph, the front wheels seized and the electronic stability control indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to titus-will hyundai (888-287-9396, located at 2255 carriage loop sw, olympia, wa 98502), but no failure was found. The contact called the manufacturer and the contact was placed on a five day waiting list. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000. The vin was not provided.
On saturday 2-28-2015, i was driving on a major interstate highway when all of a sudden my car stopped responding. I attempted to accelerate, but the vehicle would not respond. Thankfully, i was in a construction zone so the surrounding cars were already alert and slowing down. However, i was rapidly losing speed and could not keep up or accelerate. I drifted the car into the emergency lane, where then the car died. I called road side assistance but was not able to get through. A police officer arrived. He could not get the car to start either. We had my car towed since i was interfering with a major highway's traffic flow. The hyundai dealership i was towed to was just beginning to close. They said they could start the paperwork and store my car there, but they would not be able to work on it until monday. Come monday morning, the dealership said they could not duplicate the error and therefore there was nothing wrong with my car. However, since i was still within my warranty, they would reimburse me for the hotel and tow. In summer 2018, i took the same car into the shop to get serviced for a separate issue (the car's clock was constantly either too fast/slow despite taking it to a dozen dealerships to get 'fixed'). At that time i also said the car jumps and doesn't respond smoothly. I was worried i was going to have another issue like the highway stall. After many conversations, the dealership & hyundai corporate said there was nothing wrong with the car. However, research shows that there is clearly something wrong with the veloster dual clutch transmission.a quick google/youtube search shows hundreds of other owners having similar issues with the car randomly revving or acting up. Attached is the phone call recording of my initial conversation with hyundai as well as the receipts they reimbursed me for. (which took 2 and a half years)

While driving my car on the highway, i suddenly began to hear a loud knocking sound coming from under the hood. My car began to lose power and i was unable toaccelerate. During my attempts to get my car to the side of the road the car then began to shack seconds later followed by an explosion that filled the car with smoke as it came to a complete stop in the middle of the highway. Thank god passer bys stopped to help get the car to the side of the road before anyone was injured.
Started with knocking and ticking noise then failure to accelerate. Engine failed due to unknown reasons. Have been confirmed by car mechanic licensed and insured
When stopped, car stalls occasionally..starts right up again, but then as i was driving car engine would occasionally feel as if it's going to stall & then surge up to power.
My car has been having a "chugging" feeling around 20-40mph for a while almost like engine is not getting enough fuel. I was stopped at intersection and went to accelerate and car died as if i ran out of gas or went into "limp mode". It would not turn back on and after a few min. It did start only for the same thing to happen about a mile later. Took it to be looked at the following day they found some chewed wires fixed that. Thought the problem was fixed then about a month later i was driving between 70-75mph on highway suddenly speed rapidly decreased to 20mph was revving engine at over 4k rpm and car would not go over 20mph! after a few miles driving at 20mph speed kicked back in and got home safely. Went to drive it the following day and car went into "limp mode" while at stop light about to get on the highway started back up after a few min. Took it to dealership they found no error codes they drove it and could not figure out anything that was wrong. Ido not feel safe driving this vehicle daily during rush hour on the highway! have found people with similar issues and same results which is nothing. Have looked up some possible causes maybe relating to the fuel pressure sensor, throttle position sensor, and/or the fuel rail pressure sensor based on veloster forum but so far no solution to my problem and dealership wants me to continue driving it.
Original email sent to hyundai motors usa"dear hyundai motors usa, i have visited the dealership with my new veloster for two issues on the car. I was advised to contact you to open a case as the dealer would not attempt to fix the issues as there is no recalls or service bulletins. Here are the following problems i have notified the dealer ofand those that need to be fixed. 1) serious issue! when braking under heavy conditions, both abs and non abs cases, the car swerves and/or loses it's 'rear' to either left or right. I've braked hard several times and it feels like the rear end is giving out. During abs conditions, the car swerves like it's a rwd driven vehicle. This is not only scary as a consumer but dangerous to others. If there is any condensation on the road while braking and the leaning to one side occurs and/or swerving, i could hydroplane and cause a major accident because of a mechanical defect.i have done my own research and spoken to other veloster owners as well. They have mentioned they have the same problem and their dealer has ordered and replaced one of the rear brake calipers to solve the problem. I informed my service advisor & the mechanic of this issue on 3 separate test drives. 1 test drive with service advisor in my veloster, 1 with the mechanic in my veloster & 1 in another new veloster with the mechanic. In all cases the vehicle swerved or felt like the rear end was coming lose.please have this issue fixed and provide customer service. I was very disappointed to learn that i have to write you prior to the dealer servicingmy vehicle. I will be cooperative in this issue and look forward to a solution.
My car has code of p0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold. The mechanic i have had look into the cause has suggested replacing the exhaust manifold catalytic converter assembly due to catalytic converter failure.it's a 2012 hyundai veloster 1.6 liter non-turbo,the same engine that is included in one of the largest recalls on your site. My vehicle though is not included and i feel it probably should be due to having catalytic converter failure, likely due to design flaw if others are having similar failures.

The car does not accelerate properly.when at a full stop and i press on the gas the car does not move however, the rpms are high but the car takes 5-6 seconds to go and it doesn't go very fast and there have been times i was almost hit.my car jerks when i try to accelerate from a slow speed,it is the same movement as if you were running out of gas and actually jerks my neck.my rear driver's window shattered for no reason. It was in the drive way and when i went out to work in the morning, it was shattered. There is no impact sight as evidence that something had hit it.i am very unhappy with the car and wish i never bought it.

Burns oil and makes noisy when hit the gas pedal also it pushes it self when stoping.
While parked, car starts hard then will not shift, despite the dash saying it's in drive. Have to shut off, wait, then restart. At stop signs, car will stall then not restart. Once restarted, car will not shift. Need to shut off then restart repeatedly until it shifts. While in motion going straight on the highway, car will act as if it's lost engine power and then stall completely. Again, car will not start, and once it starts it will not shift. Again repeat the turn on/off process until it shifts. Has happened more and more frequently but dealer cannot give me an answer. This car is very unsafe to me and others on the road with it's unpredictability.
The engine failed does not start and there is a lot of smoke
While in motion on a city street, the car suddenly made a loud noice, smoke came out of the engine and all the trouble lights came on. The car stopped and oil was everywhere. There was no warning.the engine seized and is now worthless. It only had 97,000 miles on it. The car had to be towed and needs a new engine. Over 1.2 million kia and hyundai models were recalled because of this happening with low mileage but veloster was not included.it should have been!! hyundai refuses to take responsibility for it.
First crankshaft position sensor was bad now camshaft position sensor bad.
Complete car fire. I was driving on the free way going between 70 and 75mph and i went to change lanes and when i looked back in the rearview mirror all i see is smoke so i pull off the freeway onto the shoulder and i see a flame from under the hood. So i pop the hood latch and i open it and there was a fire coming from the engine compartment. So i shut the hood and go and grab necessities out from the vehicle and wait for the fire department to show up and put out the car. Well when they showed up, they were not able to salvage any usable part of the vehicle. Again i was on the freeway/highway traveling between 70mph and 75 mph
Engine is making a very loud knocking noise the car has already broken down on the interstate and had to have it towed home when i got to the repair facility they had to change the spark plugs the knocking noise is even louder now
I heard something drop and then the car started smoking. I pulled to the side of the highway, turned off the car, and went to open the hood, but saw flames. The entire front half was engulfed in flames.a couple years ago i had to get an engine replacement due to oil over consumption. The same issues started happening again and the dealership was not helpful with getting the situation figured out.
Hyundai/nhtsa has a recall for 2015-2016 veloster 1.6 engines for connecting rod bearing failures, an issue that has been ongoing and known for years. The recall needs to be extended to 2011-2018 1.6l gdi motors used in hyundai and kia vehicles, which all have issues with rod bearing failures. The rod bearing is going out on my veloster that i recently purchased and hyundai will not honor recall for the motor in the vehicle for the same issue going on on all model years. I do have a video of the running engine with the rod bearing noise but it exceeds the file limit size. The link is the youtube video i uploaded. Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0mphrsogh8&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=brianbundridge
While driving, the engine made clicking noises and all of a sudden the car just died. Also, when i tried starting the vehicle smoke came out of the engine. I was advised by a mechanic that the rod bearings needs to be replaced. Currently, there is a recall in regards to the rod bearings but only for 2015 and 2016.
Oil leak from faulty rear main seal
Vehicle has entered into limp home mode multiple times, last time resulting in near collision from behind as throttle and transmission shifting become inoperable.vehicle does not produce any codes or check engine light.other symptoms prior to this condition were an engine miss while driving and complete stall in park.
Engine knocking around 75k miles. Oil changed every 2000 miles. Proper maintenance. Loud knocking noise.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that the headlight bulbs burned out often. Also, while idling at a stop, the vehicle jerked, lost power, and shut off without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The contact also stated that the vehicle accelerated automatically in intervals and the engine made a knocking sound. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle operated as designed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and referred the contact to the dealer. The failures were not remedied. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
I had a knocking in my engine before my connecting rod bear had punctured 3 large holes in my engine block. I had no check engine light and my vehicle never even hit 120,000 miles. A similar problem had been reported on hyundai vehicles that are being recalled.
When i put the car in drive today, after having an ecm update at the dealership 2 days prior, the car went backwards down an incline and would not proceed forward.
Vehicle downshifts to fifth gear when passing but does not return to sixth gear upon releasing accelerator.vehicle continues at same rate of speed when releasing accelerator as if it were on cruise control. While passing an 18 wheeler on hwy 169 north, i noticed that there was another 18 wheeler approximately 100 feet in front of the one i was passing. With an oncoming vehicle i could not pass both trucks, so i passed the first one and pulled in behind the other one. When i let off the accelerator, the car continued at the same rate of speed forcing me to slam on the brakes to avoid rear-ending the other truck. This vehicle (and subsequently another vehicle on the dealership lot) exhibits this characteristic every time the vehicle goes into passing mode. However, if you back off the accelerator slightly, after about 5 seconds, the car will shift back into sixth gear [but all the while accelerating]. I noticed that you can manually shift the vehicle back to sixth by moving the shifter to manual mode for a split second and then shifting back into "d".the engine rpms will fall back down immediately indicating the shift.otherwise, the vehicle remains in fifth gear without decelerating for approximately 8 seconds.in my case, the car did not do what i "told" it to do:decelerate by releasing the pedal.i've spoken to hyundai and to the dealership and have filed a complaint with the better business bureau because of this design flaw."control" is the key issue behind the wheel of a vehicle.if someone is not expecting the vehicle to continue at the rate of speed when they let off the accelerator, they could crash into someone as i almost did.thank you.
I was driving home then started hearing a knocking noise coming from the engine. That's when i felt my car to lose power and start to decelerate. Once it stopped it shut off , and all of my light on my dash board was on. The battery light, oil light, eps light. I went to open the hood and it smelt like something was burning.after about an hour of waitingthe engine still wasn't turning over. I left my car on the side of the road at an apartment complex.
On friday, 1/31/19, my son as driving home from work and his check engine light and oil indicator light went on. He took the car (my12 hyundai veloster) to pep boys for service the following morning, sat. 2/1/20, and described what happened. They inspected the car and advised the oil seemed to be burning faster than normal, but did an oil change. They advised if the warning lights came on again, to take it to hyundai. They also advised we would need to bring the car in for oil changes approx. Every 3k miles, rather than 5-7k miles. No concern was communicated to keep driving the car. The next day, sunday, 2/2/20, he was entering the 605 fwy (south) at firestone blvd in norwalk, ca and he heard a rattling in the engine, then saw black smoke coming from the engine. He pulled the car over on the shoulder, then saw flames coming from the engine. He exited the vehicle safely and called 911. The car became engulfed in blames and was totaled. The fire dept put out the fire. The chp officer pointed out the trail of oil on the shoulder where my son had driven and pulled over. Upon doing some internet research after the fire, we saw that my13 hyundai velosters had a recall for an issue that could lead to engine fires. We have had all regular service done on the car at pep boys and had not had any prior engine issues.
I purchased this car 3/2012dec 2013 my car had to be taken in for the rear brake calipers , sunroof and the check engine light was on, took it in to kendall hyundai, car was ok but had low power. Feb 2016 car had to go back in my trunk lock would not release. Oct 2016, engine had a loud knocking sound after oil change & service at the same dealership,i had to have an engine change, check engine light never goes off. As recent as may 26, 2017 my car failed , oil light flickering, check engine light on. I received the car back on jun 22, 2017 after another engine change. The car's check engine light is still on called the dealership back and will take the car . The dealership has scheduled this tuesday & that they will keep the car again for another couple of days.it is very disturbing because my car has now had 2 engine change and the check engine light is still on. I have lost the value in the car and it is & was lemon car.hyundai should be shut down for selling faulty cars.i was driving the car on the highway at each engine failure.i have all my records on hand.
My daughters car which we bought 2 years ago, with about 41.000 miles on it . This problem has been going on for the last 9 months . Itstarts and runs . But when youput it ingear will run while taking off. Then all of sudden chugg or dies or no power, starts right back up and does it again . It will do this evening slowing down orat a light to stop .it does this several timesand will run rough .then comes out of it and runs ok or takes 10 mins to start .then when you start it you have to hold accelerator to the floor. No codes goes into limp mode .just spent $1000.oo for engine mechanicalfuel pump 3 months ago .no codes .dealership can't find anything wrong, after driving it 3 times . Then as soon as we leave the dealership it runs rough again. Of course they closed after we left .replaced couple other engine parts for same problem prior to this .i guess there is no one that works on cars without just using a computer only. You would think hyundai would do something about this !!! i can work on older cars no problem . This is becoming a lemon law carin my opinion.!!!you would think our government would do something about this .this is and accident waiting to happen on the road to someone .
I was losing oil without an obvious oil leak. The psi in the 3rd cylinder was 90 and when spark plugs were replaced the new ones were covered in oil. I was told i needed a new engine. I contacted hyundai and they told me to take it to a certified hyundai mechanic and have them diagnose it and submit a repair assistance request as i was the second owner and the car is 8 years old with 80,000 miles. It cost $700 for the diagnostic and i was told i needed a new engine. Hyundai denied the repair assistance request and i had to pay $700 for the diagnostic. Neither the repair shop or hyundai thought to tell me that i should do an oil consumption test because doing so would have likely made hyundai responsible like many of the other engine recalls they are dealing with. I have since had to replace the engine myself.
I've always had my vehicle well maintained and can get records or oil changes/regular vehicle maintenance. I had my oil changed at a dealership and couple of weeks later the oil light was back and the engine light was on with almost 2,000 miles left until my next oil change and when they checked they said there were no oil leaks and the fluids were topped off. They said the engine light had something to do with my emmisions. 2 weeks later i'm driving and my engine starts knocking so i pull over immediately and open my hood and check my oil and it's gone. I put 3 quarts in and drove it home where i parked it until january 16th when i had it taken to hyundai to be diagnosed and they told me i had recalls and that i needed a new gasket seal and oil change. When i picked up the car after they said it was fixed it still had noise and i was told the recalled parts werent available and that it was safe to drive home and drive back on the interstate. Hyundai just recalled alot of 2012 cars that were manufactured in 2011 and i'm hoping this can get looked into and i can get some help because i have all my service records and everything showing where i kept up the car and this just started happening out of no where. Also if this affects me in any way my car is barely over 100,000 so hyundai said i was out of luck as far as warranty and i've already spent 600 dollars for them to fix the wrong thing.
My 2012 hyunday veloster keeps shut off on the highway and start right back after 2 minuresit is very unsafe .
Vehicle engine making knocking sound while idle and while in gear. Check engine light never came on.low oil light never came on.oil was low, shouldn't have been due to just having oil change, but no leak under car.
Bought the car brand new in jan of 2012, started having "issues" with the duel clutch within a few months of driving. After getting use to the new car and how it drove, putting a few thousand miles on the car, something was still not right with how it drove.not getting the speed it needed and tacking out the rpms to change into the right gear and at times, was the wrong gear.we had taken it to the dealership in which we got the car, told them of the issue and they said there was nothing wrong and that it was "normal" with the duel clutch and that we had to drive it more in manual mode, which made no sense to me.after a few months, the car got progressively worse....could not even merge out into traffic that was going 30-35 mph. Had to always drive the car in manual mode as opposed to automatic, adhering to the dealership.well, one thing lead to another and now the car is barely driving and becoming a massive safety issue, as we have to use this car to go to and from work and that only. We had brought it to the attention of the dealership, once again in dec and now... They are having "issues" with the duel clutch and that this car was...a "guinea pig" and being made a complete mockery of this particular dealership.we have escalated the issue to corporate office and i will never purchase another vehicle from this maker ever again... Nothing but a horrid experience.
I have owned car for 8 months (purchased used from dealership) engine knocking.engine seized up yesterday. No engine warning light.engine is completely done.was driving down the road yesterday heard loud knocking and car died.had to have towed.
Car has stalled while driving. Sometimes it will not go into gear. Other times it only goes into first gear. Had to move it to neutral then back to drive to get it to work. Other times, had to turn it off completely and back on to get it to work. This problem nearly got me in an accident when it happened while entering a highway.also, sometimes in first gear the car will "chugg". It will struggle to accelerate and have a jerking/chugging feel.after a couple visits to hyundai, they have failed to figure out the problem.

The engine failed does not start and there is a lot of smoke
My car is having issues describing what is happening in the recall, the engine is louder than when i go out it sounds like you're knocking noise and i just got it in september. I need to speak with somebody about this since it's not listed on the recall
Vehicle had strong smell of fuel inside the vehicle.no visible leaks under the vehicle. Called the henderson hyundai service department and was told that i need to leave the a/c controls on re-circulate to minimize the condition.the fumes were overwhelming, close to home so drove it home with all windows open to vent the smell.called roadside assistance and had vehicle towed to dealership for repairs.picked up vehicle next day and the dealer did nothing, said this was normal, and to run the re-circulate as told before.spoke with service manager at henderson hyundai who gave me a two page document that stated " several factors must be present at the same time in order for this to occur.some examples of these conditions are, high ambient temperature (100f +), high altitude, poor fuel quality, low fuel level in the gas tank, extended idling, slow traffic or stop and go driving.fuel odor under these extreme conditions is normal and does not indicate a defect with the vehicle"i then stated that they should inform the buyer prior to purchase, as all of these conditions exist in the las vegas area for 4 months of the year.i also brought up the possibility of the car having the a/c on while in an extended idle situation, and the operator not knowing this, then getting in the car and lighting a cigarette without being aware of the issue, and possibly causing a fire, the service manager said that yes, that could happen. I have the complete two page document from hyundai if you would like a copy of what i was given, as most of the extreme conditions noted are a daily occurrence during the summer months in las vegas, i cannot believe that they would even sell this vehicle.i was also told that this is because the charcoal cannister on the emission system cannot handle the amount of vapor produced. I also suggested routing the vent to another location.

On saturday, 9/8, i noticed the parking brake lever had lost tension when i first started the car, and after running errands and parking afterward, noticed a strong, "ozone-y" odor coming from the car, but wasn't sure from where. I drove more a little more over the weekend and noticed the smell again, plus according to the car's mpg readout on the trip computer, the fuel mileage was much lower than usual by 5-10 mpg. On monday, 9/10, two days after first noticing the smell and parking brake issue but not realizing what the problem was, i drove the car to and from work in commute traffic (approx. 13 miles each way). When i parked the car after the commute home after work, the burning smell was much stronger, and clearly coming from left rear brake. Upon inspection, i noticed light smoke coming from pad/rotor, lots of brake dust, and evidence of grooving on rotor, so obviously the brake was sticking or dragging on the rotor. I called my service dealership right away (hyundai of seattle), who took the problem seriously and said "call hyundai roadside assistance to have the car towed to the dealership on a flatbed truck; don't drive the car." it was towed to the dealership the next day, and diagnosed with a left rear brake caliper failure causing the pads to stick to the rotors. A new part was ordered and the car repaired by saturday, 9/15. The service advisor at the dealership claimed to have never heard of this problem before, but i have since read on a website devoted to this specific model, veloster.org, that a number of other 2012 veloster owners have had the same problem. This seems a common defect and clearly a safety issuethat hyundai needs to address and dealerships made aware of.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. While the vehicle was in park, the contact started the vehicle, but the gear did not shift into drive or reverse. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact turned the vehicle off and, while proceeding to exit, the vehicle moved and pinned the contact under the door. The vehicle then rolled back over the contact and stopped approximately twenty feet without impact. The contact sustained injuries that did not require medical attention. A police report was not filed. The contact called and took the vehicle to missoula hyundai (406-549-5178, located at 2715 brooks st, missoula, mt 59801) where the technician kept the vehicle for ten days, but was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact picked up the vehicle and the failure recurred after three weeks. The contact recorded the failure and took the vehicle back to the same dealer. A diagnostic test was performed and it was diagnosed that a gear actuator needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. The contact was informed to sign an authorization for a case manager to have the vehicle evaluated. The contact was not called back. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 32,276.
When i put the car in drive today, after having an ecm update at the dealership 2 days prior, the car went backwards down an incline and would not proceed forward.
The car (hyundai veloster 2013, manual transmission, production date may 3, 2012) was parked on a small hill, with the hand brake pulled all the way. Apparently the hand brake failed, the car rolled downhill hitting a fence.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. Without warning, the gears failed to shift into drive and reverse. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and was unable to be driven. The contact was to check with the manufacturer to determine if a dealer may be able to inspect and diagnose the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.

While approaching a traffic circle, the driver slowed the car from 30 mph to about 15 mph for traffic sequencing. When the accelerator was pressed, the rpm increased to about 6000, but the car did not accelerate for 3-5 seconds, which caused oncoming cars to swerve to avoid a collision.a similar situation developed several weeks later when merging from one freeway onto another.several mechanics have termed this situation as a "false neutral," where the computer controls attempt to determine into which gear to downshift, in order to maximize acceleration torque.whatever it is, although hyundai mechanics say it's "normal," i think it is unsafe and the problem must be addressed.timely and reliable acceleration should be a given in any new vehicle.the vehicle has a dual-clutch transmission, which the service manager at the dealer stated was susceptible to the delayed acceleration, but was normal. Updated ivoq 05/22/12
Was driving veloster on highway with 2 yr old granddaughter in backseat when speedometer went it zero than transmission went to limp mode was really scared because a tractortrailertruck was behind at the time i call the hyundai company to complain nothing has been resolved.

Vehicle was parked in driveway in ct for two days; would not reverse; just revved.was pushed to street.drove normally over 100 miles toward home in nj via interstate highways. Drive gear then started to free-rev when starting from a stop on local highway; continued to slip; limited speed attainable; cars swerving around me. Unable to reverse at home; car had to be towed.dealer had car for 2 1/2 days. Did physical examination, computer test, and a 45 mile road test.said car "was perfect."called it "an inconvenient computer glitch.""inconvenient?" it was terribly frightening!

. When i bought it it had 98,000 km on it. Still under warranty and i had all the recalls from a few years ago done to bring it all up to date. I religiously changed the oil, rotated tires, fluids updated, new battery, etc. In 6 years i have put 8000km on the car since i bought it and while driving home from my daughters a few weeks ago it kept popping out of fourth gear? this happened the one time and no lights came on? then last thursday i went to my daughters house to help out with the unpacking and on the drive home my car got stuck in 3rd gear! i couldn't get it out of third gear until i once popped the clutch and out it came. Shifting went back to normal, for a while then i could not get it to go into any gear! i am on my way home in rush our traffic and the car will not go into any gear but seems to be stuck in 5th or 6th gear? by reving up the engine to about 4000 and letting the clutch out slowly while reving it would slowly start going and eventually it would be going ok stuck in whatever gear but there were traffic lights!! i had to pull over once and had the police pull in behind me. When i explained to her what was happening she said she understood her brother had the same problem? i was finally able to get it home in the scariest ride ever (through 2 red lights and a stop sign) and it was smoking and stinking! now i have a car with insurance ($1200 yr.) on it and 1.5 years left on the loan ($288.00) a month. 50% of my income goes to rent. I live cheque to cheque. My most important lifeline is my car and now i cannot afford to fix it and it won't drive. Is there not enough problems with this same thing on the same car and same year it should be a recall. 6,000km over the warranty and the transmission goes? i drove it 8000km in 6 years and the transmission goes? what kind of grace do you give on km over 100km warranties.
When the transmission is cold at first start up and for an hour or so, you put it into reverse, the "r" flashes and the transmission will not move. This has left me stranded in a parking lot.also intermittently at cold start, the transmission shifts into reverse with a delay, then harsh engagement. Also intermittently after driving 1 to 2 minutes then coming to a stop, you accelerate and make a slow speed left turn, the transmission will not shift out of 1st gear.
Vehicle was traveling on highway when loss of power to the pedal occurred and drive symbols began flashing with loss of power in acceleration and slipping gears completely skipping 2,3, and 6 gear.stopped vehicle and realized there was also no reverse. Had vehicle told to dealer and was told it was a computer glitch. Issue resolved itself. Started driving on highway again and issue returned. Took to different dealership and was told it was a transmission sensor switch which was not covered by warranty and cost at least 800$ to repair. But. There are several sites that occur with this issue on multiple vehicles.
The contact owns a 2013 hyundai veloster (n/a). The contact stated that the vehicle would sporadically stall when attempting to accelerate. The rpm gauge increased excessively but the vehicle would not move. In addition, there was a clicking and clanking noise in the dual clutch transmission each time the gears attempted to shift. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the noise and shifting was a characteristic of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle continues to exhibit the failure and was scheduled to be taken back to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 2719. The current mileage was 3100.## vin passed ## 2013 hyundaiveloster ##
Car was taken to the dealership for two active recalls. The dealership began with 966 engine monitoring logic recall. An error code was received after the computer was updated during the recall. The display panel now displays all gears as e, and now when the dealership drives it the car has a stall. The dealership states the transmission must be replaced. From my understanding it all is related to software.it is still with the dealership, hyundai is refusing to cover this since the car is out of warranty.this defect is directly from the recall.
Vehicle has entered into limp home mode multiple times, last time resulting in near collision from behind as throttle and transmission shifting become inoperable.vehicle does not produce any codes or check engine light.other symptoms prior to this condition were an engine miss while driving and complete stall in park.
Under normal driving conditions, as i was shifting into second gear, the seatbelt mounting assembly dislodged from the wall of the vehicle. Once disloged, the weight of the falling assembly caused the belt to twist and become stuck in the slot where the belt retracts into the wall of the car, leaving the belt somewhat loose and non functional.this is now the second safety complaint i have filed on the same car.
Rear seatbelts may become stuck under seatbelt guide. Occurs more often in rear passenger seat on drivers side. If rear seat occupants lean forward, their belt may become stuck. When sitting back upright, there is slack in the seatbelt.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster.the contact stated that another vehicle that was traveling 70 mph crashed into the driver's side of the contact's vehicle. The driver's side seat belt failed to restrain the contact the plastic cylinder became fractured in several pieces, separating from the door panel. The cylinder also fractured and shards of plastic flew and struck the rear driver's passenger, who sustained several lacerations to the leg from the plastic shards of the cylinder. The contact also sustained injuries to the back. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 23,300.
The seat belts in the backseat of my brand new 2012 veloster frequently get stuck under the holder for the seatbelt. This causes the seatbelt to not be able to retract and becomes extremely loose. I first noticed this problem when i had two young children in the back seat. This is a huge safety problem. Anytime i have a child in the back seat of my car, or a shorter adult, the seat belt becomes loose.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that the rear seat belts and the passenger air bags failed. The rear seat belts could not be release from the seat or retracted. The air bag warning light remained illuminated and the anti-theft unit activated independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer re-calibrated the passenger weight sensor however, the air bag failure was not corrected. The rear seat belts were not replaced and the anti theft system failure was unable to be duplicated however, the anti theft electrical system was updated. The manufacturer was made aware that the tail pipe released a black powder and the manufacturer advised the contact that the black powder was a normal phenomenon that they were aware of. The contact was advised by the manufacturer that they were working on issuing a remedy for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000 and the current mileage was 12,100.
Cpsc#i1310578a. 2012 hyundai veloster. The consumer stated that she was having problems with the drivers seat belt. *lnthe consumer stated the drivers seat belt has an adjustable guide. She was able to adjust it to fit across her shoulder. However, when she moved, it would chose a new position, and not go back, which forced the seat belt across her neck. When she hit the brake, the positioner moved the belt across her neck.
There is one serious safety defect with this car, the side mirror adjustments (in particular the passenger's side). The dealership has not been able to properly adjust the mirror and they stated that the limited adjustable was "just how it was designed."therefore, i would like this researched further and corrective actions taken. This car is not as safe as it should be.specifically, when a tall, larger person has the seat set in the far back position, and sits up fairly high, the right side mirror cannot be properly adjusted, and in combination with the rear view mirrors and the left side mirror, it creates "blind spots," and, in particular, a very large "blind spot" to the right--very dangerous when changing lanes or passing!
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. After the vehicle was parked and the parking brake was set, the contact stated that the caliper failed to release. The vehicle was taken to inver grove hyundai (1290 50th st e, inver grove heights, mn 55077, (888) 706-5928) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rotor and brake pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v567000 (parking brake). The manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

The car (hyundai veloster 2013, manual transmission, production date may 3, 2012) was parked on a small hill, with the hand brake pulled all the way. Apparently the hand brake failed, the car rolled downhill hitting a fence.
The brakes on the 2012 hyundai veloster will work fine one minute and then go to the floor suddenly with no braking action.you will have to pump the brakes to get them to work.at one point, the brakes went to the floor and pumping the brakes failed to work and i went over a curb in a parking lot.i took the car into regional hyundai in the first part of 2014 due to this situation becoming concerning.they kept the car for several days but said they did not know the reason for the brake problem.they stated they would call the hyundai engineers to discuss the issue but never called me back.it is now july 2014.i still have not heard back from hyundai and the situation with the brakes is worse. I am taking the car back into regional hyundai on thursday, july 10, to try, once again, to find an answer to this problem.the car is extremely dangerous to drive with the brake situation and i am afraid to drive it.
At approximately 75,000 miles, the parking brake began to fail.this is a serious safety issue considering that the vehicle utilizes a manual transmission and will roll if parked on any inclined surface.this issue was addressed under the nhtsa campaign id number 12v567000, but only included replacement of the parking brake linkage and cable (the wording in campaing 12v567000 states that dealers "will replace the rear brake caliper assemblies free of charge").for this particular vehicle, the car was serviced in 2013 to include parking brake linkage and cable replacement under that campaign.there was no particular problem with the parking brake at that time.in may of 2015, the parking brake began to fail with the exact symptoms issued in the initial recall.however, both rear brake calipers completely failed and the parking brake would no longer engage.hyundai would not replace the calipers free of charge because the recall, according to them, did not include the brake calipers in their entirety.i believe this is a failure by hyundai to properly address the reason for the parking brake failure.each caliper costs somewhere between $250-$300, so consumers will currently find themselves paying approximately $800 in parts and labor to fix the problem.because i was dissatisfied with hyundai and their failure to replace parts that are linked to a known recall/safety issue, i had my car towed from the dealership (the brake calipers locked up after mechanics at the dealership inspected them and the car was no longer driveable) to a private mechanic to fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the brakes, the vehicle took longer than normal to stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. After inspection, they advised her that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000. The current mileage was approximately 13,000. Updated 06/10/2013
Left rear disk brake caliper parking brake mechanism stuck in actuated position with no braking action. Same problem as existing recall, fits date window, but hyundai did not include this vin in the recall. Discovered problem on 17dec2019.
The emergency brake light stays on and the car seems to hesitate after putting into drive or reverse. Feels like the brake is still on.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. While driving approximately 20 mph and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard and the stopping distance increased. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake master cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred approximately 13,000 miles later. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the master cylinder again. The local dealer (rick case hyundai, 19991 villa view rd, cleveland, oh) and the manufacturer were notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 46,900. Consumer stated master cylinders were replaced 2 times. Updated 11/29/18
The driver's side wheel bearing began making a roaring sound about 10,000 miles ago. The car currently has just over 80,000 miles it. I went to go replace my wheel bearing and found the axle nut had backed off on it's own at least a quarter of a turn. The nut, you can see where it was supposed to have been locked into place, and that area is moved at least a quarter of a turn from where it is supposed to be "locked in" so it does not spin loose. I just noticed this to determine the cause of wheel bearing failure on 5/1/16. Vehicle noise while in motion on all types of roads. Noise worse in a right hand turn. No accident, no injuries, yet.
This issue happened two day in a row.. I start my car up to go to work, put it in gear and cant move because the rear brakes are stuck, my car is stuck in my driveway causing me to be late for work, i called my local hyundai dealer and my car does not qualify for the recall that was issued for 4,490 veloster that year.. If my car doesnt qualify because of some silly vin number but has the recall issues.. Shouldnt it be included in the recall?
Rolled backwards while parked in my driveway twice and vehicle was found out in the road by my neighbors. I was driving it a week ago and my rpm's were tacking really high but could not accelerate speed and i was in 6th gear and it was telling me to shift to 6th then 5th back and forth. Had it checked out at dealership and they said my clutch had abnormal wear and tear but wasn't covered under warranty. They did not check the parking break to see if it was what caused the malfunction of the clutch. The clutch never gave me any problems it was just the car lagged when trying to accelerate speed.
As i was driving out of my parking spot i noticed a hard pull from the rear of the car. I opened the driver door to see what the problem was a noticed the back driver wheel was not rotating. It was completely stuck. It made a tire mark on that concrete. I put the car in park and that is when i heard a loud pop coming from the rear. I also noticed that the emergency hand brake was completely loose. It has no pull to it. As if it were completely seized. I had noticed this problem in the hand brake a few weeks ago but i did not think it was serious. Also a few weeks ago i was driving around 40mph and noticed a burning/ fire smell coming from the rear. I pulled over and i bent down to smell the rear passenger wheel and that is where the smell was coming from. I will take my car to the dealer to get this serious problem fixed. I know there is a recall for this problem on manual transmission models but not yet on dct models which is what i have. Please make this a recall on all 2012 hyundai velosters.
Beginning in february, noticed brake dust smell coming from the driver's side rear wheel. Upon inspection found that the parking brake linkage was sticking in the "on" position when the parking brake lever was released. At the same time experienced a small pull to the left and a noticeable loss in m.p.g. A trip to the local hyundai service department confirmed that the right rear caliper was sticking. I was told that the problem was only for the "defective" drivers side and it was a manufacturing problem. The repair happened in march and seemed to be working fine at that time. In april, a "bang" sound stated to be heard when releasing the parking and driving away after sitting over night. This "bang" sound stated as an only once a week problem to now an every day problem. I have looked and confirmed that now "both" rear calipers are sticking upon releasing the brake in the morning. The problem is still happing and now braking while driving is starting to become inconsistent. Sometimes the car brakes fine, other times the car seems to have a noticeable "weak" braking function (increasing stopping distance). Upon looking up problem on the internet, i discovered that many other owners of 2012 velosters are having the same problem. The problem seems to be for owners in northern part of the north america where dirty/ salty roads are seen (i live in vermont). My concern is that the braking system was not design to deal with these conditions and corrosion is affecting the function of the rear braking system. I'm also concerned that hyundai motor company is not coming up with a solution and is just replacing the same defective caliper with another one.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that the parking brake became inoperable and the vehicle would continue to roll when parked. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the dealer. Both technicians diagnosed that the rear calipers were faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v567000 (brakes). The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 62,000.
The steering wheel coupler has worn down.
The car has a failing steering coupler just as other models of hyundai have and they claim the problem is known but nothing can be done to to no recall. It is no different than other models that were recalled.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that a clicking noise coming from the steering wheel occurred while driving. In addition, the contact stated that there was also a lot of movement in the steering. There was no warning indicator lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to key hyundai dealer, located at 4660 southside blvd #100, jacksonville, fl 32216, (904) 642-6060 , where it was diagnosed that the mdps coupler replacement for noise on steering column needed. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repaired fees. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not offer further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
I have 16,809 miles on the car i noticed steering was becoming clunky took it to the dealer and it was a coupler worn out.the dealer had it in stock and they never have anything in stock said it is usually under warranty when this happens.well, i have low miles and for a $2.14 part the labor brought it up to $488.68.it seems to be a recurring problemand most cars at my mileage are still under warranty..
Trunk door won't stay up. Head and neck hit by door a couple times when getting groceries from the trunk. Clicking noise in the steering wheel when turning/driving.
I own a 2012 hyundai veloster twd. My sunroof just exploded out of no-where and i called hyundai and they told me that there is no recall on this issue. In addition, i need to replace a steering bushing and it is not covered in any recall and i am reading on the internet that this item has been repaired. Great car, but no accountability by this organization to fix their engineers issues.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel had resistance and was very hard to turn. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they have received complaints but no solution was available. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 30,000.
My steering wheel has a thud to it when i turn left and right, steering is getting hard to control as well. I seen a lot of hyundai has had a steering coupling recall but not the veloster.this problem my well exist in the veloster
Stearing motor coupler has disintegrated making for play in the stearing and unstable vibration while driving especially at highway speeds.
Reduced steering responsiveness and clunking noise coming from behind the steering wheel. Loose steering made steering less responsive and dangerous. The rubber steering coupling between the steering transmission behind the steering wheel and the steering shaft has become brittle and broke apart. The car has 81,000 miles on it and is only seven years old. Upon further investigation the exact same parts are used on the hyundai elantra and sonata, both of which hyundai extended the warranties on this part to address the exact same problem.the vehicle was in motion on a highway when the problem was was first observed. The vehicle doesn't respond smoothly to steering input. This may result in a very dangerous situation.
The power assist steering coupler is defective and may potentially fail and cause loss of control.i believe hyundai is aware of this problem but addressing it.
Steering wheel has play in it and makes a noise thud like noise when u turn it u cant control the car its the steering coupling same as the sonata and elantra they have been recalled but not the veloster but its the same part it just happened no warning at all this is very dangerous and needs to be recalled its the same part and problem but hyundai hasnt recalled and needs to this car company ignores the fact they have a defective part. It just desinergrates someone is going to get hurt there is no warning at all it just happens u can just sit there and turn wheel just a lil and u can hear it and feels like there is no control in the steering wheel
The engine failed does not start and there is a lot of smoke
The veloster is a 2012 with only 19k miles. Recently it has started making a clunking noise when turning the steering wheel left or right and there is excessive vibration when driving in a straight line. Hyundai states that this is not a safety issue, however, the majority of sources online say that this is caused by a failed steering coupler (a k a.steering dampener) and this can cause the wheel to lock up while driving. Hyundai has recalled this issue on the sonata and the elantra but refuses to do anything for veloster owners. The part can be purchased online from the oem for roughly $6 but the dealer from which i purchased the vehicle is asking $400 to fix this issue. Forums on line will show a great number of veloster owners dealing with this same issue and cost to fix this problem. I truly feel as though hyundai has admitted fault and a safety concern by recalling other vehicles for the exact issue but they still refuse to fix the veloster. I called and spoke with a hyundai usa representative this afternoon who says that it's up to the dealer to decide if it's covered under their standard warranty or not and that i should have purchased the extended warranty if i wanted this fixed. As he knew exactly what i was talking about it goes to show that i am not the only veloster owner dealing with this problem. This issue needs to be fixed at the expense of hyundai.
I have a lunk noise and play in my steering wheel though it needed a alingment but was told it was a steering coupling. Sonta and elantra has a recall on the same issue its the same $1.88 part that is failing in the other hyundai cars and they have a recall but not the veloster well if its the same part then it is a defective part recall it.this is safety concern guess they waiting for someone to get hurt before its recalled oh by the way its $388. Roughly the dealership said to fix itfor a $1.88 rubber piece go figure.i purchased this 2012 veloster off the showroom floor i am the only owner
The steering of the veloster is shakey and the eps becomes tight to control while oppertating on the highway. Changing lanes and the slight turn of a curve, cause the vehicle to resist the action on the highway. The steering column also makes a clunky noise while turning left and right in operation at any speed in motion. The vehicle does not feel safe to operate while passing traffic on the highway, taking curves and exits off the highway. Presented the issue to a hyundai dealership and they stated the coupler needs to be replaced. The cost of the part is minimal but the labor was expensive. Reserach shows the coupler of the same year as been recalled on other hyundai vehicles however the veloster has yet to be recalled.
There is play in the steering wheel when turning back and forth. Also hear a clicking noise.i am told there is a very inexpensive couple that needs to be replaced and that is common.i have appx 90000 miles on car. Starting noticing this about 6 months ago. I mentioned this to mechanics where i normally have car serviced. They recommended seeing hyundia and mentioned the coupler.
My car like many others have had an issue with the coupler going bad in the steering wheel. Mine started at around 85,000 miles and i was told by the dealership there may be a bulletin on it. The steering wheel makes noise when turning it and has about 2 inches of play.
Was driving and my car would not turn almost caused a seroius accident ..took it in to be repaired the plastic coupling piece was under $20 and labor was $320.my miliage is under 55,000
I was driving on highway ,steering wheel seems to be sticking ,takes effort to keep straight on road.it seems like the steering wheel has a sticky spot in center it's been getting worse ,took to dealer they say they can't duplicate the problem but as soon as i left it came right back, there is a problem but they say its because i have to get used to electric assist steering ,i've driven other cars with same assist but never had this problem it now does this at any speed over 20 mph.
My 2012 veloster recently stared making a clicking sound whenever i turn. It shakes when i'm on the highways going 70 mph. When i run over any small bumps it makes a clacking noise and hard to control the steering wheel. If i switch lanes and run over one on the markers on the road the car feels like it slides to the side that i switchand the steering wheel is difficult to control. I don't feel safe driving this car. I checked under the steering wheel in the dashboard and there's oil liquid leaking from steering wheel area. If i'm at a stop sign and turn the steering wheel it makes the clacking sound and it feels like the steering wheel is coming loose.
When driving under any road conditions and at speeds from 15 to 65, the car seems to track to the left or right of center but does not want to track straight ahead.when trying to turn the wheel to correct this, there is a lot of resistance, which forces the driver to over-correct and at times nearly lose control.at times the wheel also tries to turn on its own (quick slight jerks to the left or right) and can be very difficult to maintain complete control.this is especially bad under icy conditions and could easily send the car into a spin.i have had the wheel aligned and tires checked and no mechanical issues have been found.i also took the car to a dealer for this issue and even though i made it clear this happens on dry roads, the claim they could not reproduce the issue and suggested replacing my tires with snow tires.this obviously has nothing to do with the issue when the roads are dry.i have also seen several other reports of this on several web sites and they are describing exactly the same things that i am seeing.i would like to know how this issue can be escalated and resolved before this causes an accident.
The steering wheel clicks when you move in any direction. It happens while driving as well as when sitting still.this is a known problem with the elantra and sonata.please refer to case numbers: for the elantra ' nhtsa id number: 11085127 and sonata nhtsa id number: 11101809 and nhtsa id number: 11093962.
Steering wheel clicks and vibrates during turns & lane changes. This issue is highly dangerous & has probably caused wrecks. I believe that the issue is in the plastic parts used. The suspension & struts are in need of replacement car is 5 years old, bought new off show room floor 2/14.2013. Car has 80000 miles and is on the second set of low profile tires. I follow the maintenance guide in the manual.
I am experiencing the same steering coupler issue as the current open recall for the hyundai sonata.
The steering column pops every time i make a turn, whether a sharp turn or mild. I can be parked and turn the steering wheel and it pops. There seems to be looseness in the steering.
There is a clicking noise when the steering wheel is turned. First happen while stationary. It is now occurring in motion.
Eps indicater light came on and lost power steering.pulled over, turned the engine off and restarter after a few seconds. Steering back to normal.this happens usually the first start of the day.car going to the dealership to see what the problem is.only had the car three weeks.
Steering wheel coupler disintegration, the same as elantra models.clicking and looseness in the steering wheel.it is present stationary or in motion.this is a very common issue with these vehicles.my vehicle has 55,000 miles.
There is a clicking in the steering column. Every time i drive the car and turn the wheel it clicks and jerks. Even when your standing still, if you turn the wheel back and fourth. When on highway it vibrates and steering jerks. Took to a mechanic it will cost $500.00 to repair. They said it was a plastic fuller in the steering column that needs to be replaced.
This is from a hyundai technical service bulletin number 17-st-001 dated from february 2017. Itfs for a motor driven power steering (mdps) coupling replacement.it makes a terrible and very loud thud sound on every little bump or hole on the road and you canft even talk to each other in the car itfs so loud.this is also happening on the elantra gt, santa fe, elantra coupe and azeri models. The op code is 56300f25.casual part #56315-2k000-fff.nature code d61cause code zz4
It started making a noise every time i drive it and the wheel jerks to the sides
Steering coupler has disintegrated (this has already been recalled for the sonata, but no recall yet for velosters). Clicking when turning steering wheel (anytime, car is on or off, in motion or stationary).
I was driving my hyundai veloster on a smooth paved hwy, going about 60 miles/hr, on a sunny day, sun shade open/ moonroof closed when the moonroof exploded (imploded).there were no other vehicles near me and no debris in the roadway. The explosion was extremely loud, sending shattered glass throughout the car, in my clothes and hair. Thankfully my 2 yr old grand daughter was not in her car seat in the rear, she probably would have lost her eyesight or worse. The explosion was so loud, it sounded like a truck ran into the car. I closed my eyes for a few seconds because of the glass falling down on me. I'm not sure how i was able to keep from losing control of the steering.i was terrified and still have not wanted to drive the car since.
New vehicle was parked on the street. At 8:00 am i was informed by a fellow worker that it appeared my vehicle was damaged and there was glass all over it.i found that the skylight had burst upward and outward.it was about 80 degrees at the time.the day before was above 90 degrees and the vehicle was parked in same location, without incident.i called dealer who referred me to national service.they came and towed car to another dealer closer to home. Day 8 and dealer claims to have replaced glass, side rails and now needs to replace deflector that all were damaged. Says soonest repair to complete july 2nd pm.updated 8/14/12 updated 08/15/12
As i was driving on the highway, the sunroof to my car suddenly exploded for no apparent reason. This very easily could have caused me to wreck into another car, as i panicked to move from the far left lane to the far right shoulder. I thought at first that i had hit someone, or someone had hit me. However upon inspection there was nothing wrong with any other part of my car. I can best explain this by asking you to imagine driving down the highway and a huge rock falling on my sunroof. After a pulled over and inspected my broken sunroof there was no rock or anything else to suggest something fell on my roof.
Driving at 70mph southbound on i-5 near albany or the sunroof suddenly imploded, showering the inside of the car with glass.the sunroof was closed as were all of the windows and the shade was open. Despite the traffic i was able to pull over to the side of the road and my passenger and i could shake out the pieces of glass from our hair and clothes.apart from some small cuts there were no serious injuries.the entire inside of the car is covered in bits of broken glass- thankfully we didn't have anyone in the back seats.upon having the service department at the dealer inspect the roof, i was told to contact my insurance company and see if i have coverage for the glass.when the sunroof recall came out last year i brought my vehicle in immediately and was told that it was okay, so this apparently absolves hyundai from responsibility when it fails as mine did.what i don't understand is why this roof is not made of laminated glass or somehow coated so that if it were to shatter glass wouldn't enter the passenger compartment.
The rear door (there's only one) on the passenger side will no longer open either from the outside or the inside. There appears to be many complaints of this on the veloster online forum. I noticed this when i was attempting to open it when a passenger was going to sit there. They had to climb in and out of the rear hatch. This would definitely be a safety issue in an emergency.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the panoramic sun roof exploded and the glass fragments scattered outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was in the process of replacing the sun roof. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
2012 hyundai veloster was recalled last year for a sunroof defect in which the sunroof may explode without warning. Car was taken to a hyundai dealer, where they ended up replacing the sunroof because it was defective. November 25,2014, wife was driving the car at approximately 50 mph, when sunroof blew up, sending glass flying throughout the inside and outside of car. Wife had small cuts to face and arms, with glass pieces throughout her hair and clothes.
On tuesday 11/26/2019 around 1pm my car was parked in a lot when the sunroof exploded.
My hyundai veloster panoramic window randomly breaks and its been replaced twice and it broke again and now i don't want that glass above my head that can just spontaneously break driving down the highway so i want a regular roof put in where the panoramic window is and hyundai refuses to do that they say they will only put the defective window back in. What can i do i have allready been with out this vehicle for a month and so i asked the garage in town to place a roof instead of the ewindow and he is . How can i get hyundai to pay for this it's there defective window?
While driving down the interstate highway, sun roof "exploded" landing on me and throughout the interior. Sunroof was in the tiltposition, to allow air flow, but no completely open. Cool 65 degree morning, sunny when occurred. Was not driving under any objects, nor did i see anything struck the car or glass. Made a load noise when it broke. Interior of the car was damaged as large pieces of glass fell inside....updated 08-15-12updated 08/16/2012
The emergency brake light stays on and the car seems to hesitate after putting into drive or reverse. Feels like the brake is still on.
The car (hyundai veloster 2013, manual transmission, production date may 3, 2012) was parked on a small hill, with the hand brake pulled all the way. Apparently the hand brake failed, the car rolled downhill hitting a fence.
My car was park at my work parking lot and it was around 37 degrees f outside. I went to my car to get something out of my trunk. When i closed my trunk i heard a splash after the trunk closed. I thought i splashed some water, but i then saw and realized that something was not right on my roof. I took a closer look and saw that my sunroof had blown up. Glass debris was everywhere especially on my windshield. I drove it home that night and brought it to the dealer where i bought it and they went ahead and gave me a rental car right away. I asked them for the best offer for a new car but they just wanted to sell me a new car. I don't trust the hyundai brand anymore and im hoping in trading it in for a different car...updated 12/31/12 pictures received. 01/03/13
I am very traumatized since earlier today approximately 11am the glass sun roof on my 2012 veloster exploded when i was rinsing the car off.the weather was in the high 70s or 80s but whatever the case its extremely dangerous and unacceptable since i had children that could have had bodily injury since they were playing close by.the explosion spread shattered glass around 6 feet around the car and driveway and it was such an unfortunate situation!i would not want this to happen to any other veloster owners or future owners since it makes me sick since i live far away and was suppose to be home by now but due to this explosion i had to get it towed to a hyundai dealership!i sincerely hope that hyundai will resolve this issue since i was informed that this has happened to other veloster owners and since the car has only been in the us market for 8+ months its utterly unacceptable that its happened to multiple owners!when arriving to the dealership they told me that it is no big deal and this is really not true!it is a big deal since bodily injury did happen during the explosion since i took off my shirt after a frantic traumatic day to try and sleep and i have a small cut from the shattered glass!this is really making me so upset since its my first time as a hyundai owner and i regret having purchased this vehicle.i no longer feel safe and anxious to see what hyundai will do to fix the problem!its so wrong for a car company to not care about the safety of the consumer since the statement from the salesman at the dealership where my car was towed is completely unacceptable and untrue!it is not normal for a car to explode when rinsing it off and there is no warning on the vehicle or manuals that would indicate caution to rinse your car in any climate!reading forums some people just hit a bump in the road and the sunroof shatters!this is a major flaw!
On 7/2/2017 i was driving on a local road at approximately 35 mph. When we heard a pop sound and portions of my sumroof came cascading on to the passanger in the back seat. I immediately pulled over to inspect the car. I have attached pictures
The sunroof of my 2012 hyundai veloster exploded today without warning. The sunroof was under a recall campaign and was checked by the dealership. However, the dealership signed off that the sunroof was fine and did not need to be replaced. However, today (about 6 months after having checked on the sunroof) it exploded while driving on the highway and the shattered sunroof fell into the car all over me and the inside of the car.
Sunroof shattered/exploded when parked.glass flew up to two feet away.outdoor temp was near 70 f.
While driving down the freeway at 65 mph, the sunroof shattered and glass fell down on me while driving. Fortunately,i was not injured and was able to safely exit the freeway.the car had been checked for a recall for defective sunroofs and had passed inspection by the dealer.
There seems to be a problem with adjusting the veloster side mirrors so they swing far enough out for tall drivers. Online forums indicate a number of drivers with this complaint.my dealer basically says "live with it" but with the blind spots on this car, that is not a safe answer. Drivers (5'10" and up) need to be able to safely see what is forward of the rear bumper of the vehicle and can't.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that while loading the groceries into the vehicle, the hatch-back fell on the contact's back. The contact sustained an injury that did not require medical attention. The contact called the dealer at: the hyundai of westley chapel, westley chapel, fl, where it was stated that there was no recall. The manufacturer was called and the contact was put on hold but a representative did not return to the line. The failure mileage was about 55,000.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the contact noticed the glass roof had shattered and glass was scattered on the ground. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who stated that the failure was not a recall issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall, but that the matter would be investigated. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 97,000.
I was driving, making a left hand turn from a stop light and then heard a very loud bang!the sunroof above me then shattered and fell all over me, the car, and outside.i pulled over to inspect the cause and see the damage.there wasn't a sign of why it happened (rock or anything of the sort), but i had shards of glass in the top of my head, back down the inside of my shirt, and the glass still hanging was flying off.thankfully i had sunglasses on, or else something would have flown into my eyes.actually have a scratch from the incident on my new prescription sunglasses now.i researched a possible issue or recall and came across a few postings with the exact same issue!i heard good and bad stories on how it was resolved, but its scary nonetheless.this happened today and am second guessing a sunroof, although i've always wanted one.if this is starting to become a known issue with a new model, i hope its treated with caution and swiftness.please call or email me if you have any questions. The vehicle dangerously fishtails when hitting a bump, from the size of a small pothole to larger cracks in the road.sometimes the fishtail is so abrupt it feels as though the car is going into the other lane, though it's not that dramatic, it does move your vehicle travel to one side or the other, changing from your original position in the lane.the rear suspension needs to be fixed in some way so that the vehicle travel in the rear is not so abrupt.i feel as though this could definitely cause you to lose control and wreck the vehicle.
Car purchased new in 2011.me - 50+ female, have driven 18k miles in 30 months. Current mileage approx 18,800.blown kumho front passenger tire at 35 mph - rim and tire replaced by dealer at my cost in aug 2013 at 14k mileage.jan-feb 2014, repeated visits to dealer due to tires losing air.feb 21, 2014, back passenger tire replaced by dealer at my cost due to bubbling and rotated to front. (aug replacement rim and tire now on back passenger side).dealer states tire rated for 60k miles.dealer states all tires thoroughly examined and good to go.cost from aug to feb $1000 for two tires and rims. Eight days later, have driven 50-60 miles only since visit to dealer.on mar 1, 2014 (sat), back passenger tire flat, car towed to dealer on mar 3 (mon).dealer says back rim (replaced in august) needs to be replaced again but tire is fine (????), also need front left tire due to bubbling.will cost another $800.total of nearly $2000 in rims and tires in 6 months on a car with 18000 miles.calls to hyundai.they are "working on it" but dealer is not responding to specific questions. Mechanic at dealer blames the road. How can a rim be bent in a week but the tire is okay????call to kumho regarding tires.tires are not rated for any mileage.lie #1 from dealer - said tires rated at 60k.currently in rental car at my cost while hyundai and dealer play games.seriously contemplating getting an attorney involved.i am providing personal information required by this website and expressly state i do not wish to be contacted with any offers, information, etc.either by email or phone and do not give permission to have my information given to any third parties.
After only 18 months and 28,000 miles of leasing my car from hyundai i could hear the front drivers side wheel was making some kind of clicking sound.after inspecting the tire, which is a kumho brand, i noticedthat the inside of the tire had a long narrow thread of rubber hanging from it.i called forthe car to be towed to my local hyundai dealership (valencia hyundai).when the maintenance department ([xxx]) told me that both front tires were very worn and need replacing i expected after such a short period of time that they would be covered by the warranty. Apparently, they are only covered by the manufacturers warranty.i called kumho tires who informed me that the warranty only covers defects and according to hyundai there was no defect just wear and tare.the point i'm trying to make is that maybe hyundai should not be using kumho tires in the first place as they are obviously not very good tires.i made a complaint to hyundai and suggested that they ought to at least go splits with me on the cost of the replacement tires, although i think that was too generous of me, i think they should replace them for free.so now i'm waiting to hear back from the complaints department.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I have had 3 tire blowouts on my 2012 hyundai veloster.all for the original hyundai tires.3 of the 4 tires have been replaced.the car only has 25,000 to date. I have never had any other vehicle with such consistent issues..
My 2012 hyundai velostor had a sunroof recall and was inspected in late 2014 at the dealer.nothing was noted at the time.on april 17 2018, the sunroof exploding while driving on the freeway, casting shattered glasses on the freeway and damaged the vehicle behind.shattered glasses also rained on top of me.luckily my child was not in the car at the time.i brought it to the dealer for the warranty repair and they denied due to pass the 60k warranty.i was shocked and angered.i have the vehicle for 6.5 yrs and the service agent said its an old car and out of warranty.how irresponsibly hyundai is on protecting the consumers and drivers on the road.this is unacceptable!
My son was driving with the panoramic sunroof open and getting up to speed on a 55mph road.he was going apprx. 35-45 mph when the sunroofshattered.he was confused and all vehicle passengers were ok, they pulled over.nobody was hurt.we looked up and there was a previous recall for this sort of thing happening.they spent the next few hours picking all the glass out of the vehicle and their clothing.we can not close the sunroof attachment and have taken our vehicle to hyundai to be told it is not included in the recall.
My daughter was driving when the panoramic sun/moon roof exploded while driving normally on a highway at about 55 mph.
Trunk door won't stay up. Head and neck hit by door a couple times when getting groceries from the trunk. Clicking noise in the steering wheel when turning/driving.
Driving, the car was in motion, straight northbound interstate 55 at 70 mph and suddenly i heard an aggressive loud explosion, similar to that of a shotgun, glass was crumbling all over me and the interior of the vehicle. The panoramic sunroof panel exploded into bits and pieces and a portion of the sunroof tracking/frame dangled on the driver side scratching the narrow piece of frame.no apparent reasoning or cause for the explosion. No vehicles on all sides of me , no rocks or any other objects found that could have caused the breakage.i was told by the hyundai dealership my vin number was not listed as a member of the recall group of 2012 veloster's that had same complaints made of exploding sunroofs. I considered myself blessed to have not been caused bodily injuries by the explosion and blessed that my insurance allowed repair expenses to be covered under comprehensive insurance.once it is repaired i will divert my focus on trading the vehicle in for a more reliable and safe vehicle with no sunroof feature to cause future costly challenges for me to have to submit a claim with my insurance.
I went to a tire store 8/24/15 to have a screw taken out of right front tire and have patched.about 30minutes later mechaniccalled me back to look at the kumho tire and the steel was separating inside and around the edge near wherethe wheel area would be. They would not put this tire back on the car for liability reasons. He wanted to put the spare tire on and was surprised to hear hyundai doesn't provide one.they pulled the left front tire off and found the same defect-only worse. I had to wait an hourfor 2 newtires to be delivered and then installed.i paid $405.36 for 2 new tires ! i understand they are low profile tires and more expensive but they should have lasted longer !i did everything i was supposed to do --records to prove --rotate every other oil change and never thought i would have to buy 2 new tires at 27,179 miles. My car is garage kept at home and in a parking garage at work.i have 2 more tires that need to be checked but i can't afford another $400.i'm afraid to drive this car!i expected more from hyundai and kumho.please advise.
As i was driving, moon/sun roof spontaneously imploded all over me and the interior of the car
Dangerous.
My ac/ heater stopped blowing out air. I did my research after discovering it would cost upwards of $1,000 to repair. I found tons of videos on you tube addressing this exact problem. That is how i knew where to look. As you can see there is a major flaw in the design of this unit that poses in my opinion a major safety risk. This should be a recall issue and not something owners of these cars need to pay out of pocket for. Please see the attached pictures showing the melted parts and fire damage that took place in my car. I do not think it right or justified that owners of these cars are not made aware or having it fixed by the company.
The 2012 hyundai veloster emits a strong odor of gas in the cabin when driven in temperatures over 100 degrees. I have researched this on the internet and have noticed several complaints- all stating that hyundai states this is normal. I have also went to to the dealership and been told that this smell is within normal limits. The smell is so strong that i have actually vomited and my kids have had to lay down due to nausea. It happens when the vehicle is moving or not.
The blower motor on the ac/heater keeps failing so that you can't get either hot or cool air into the car.once it happens you just have no heat or cool control.this is miserable in the summer but very dangerous in the winter because you cannot defrost your windows so that it will be safe to drive.even if it's not freezing the window just breathing inside the car will fog things so you cannot see if it's raining or cold outside which is very dangerous.the blower motor for the ac/heating needs to work.that part has failed 3 times on my very same vehicle.i know this cannot be happening to just me alone.when i took the car in to have this fixed again yesterday the mechanic said that on the hyundai the blower system for the ac/heating is a regular problem in the hyundai.i don't think he was supposed to say that but he did.please investigate.
On february 22, 2019 at 6:51pm i went to my car to retrieve some personal belongings and noticed that my sunroof had completely shattered.by the grace of god i was not driving my car nor did i have any children in the car.hyundai has had my car sense this incident occurred and are saying that they are not going to be paying for the sunroof to be fixed.this is just absolutely ridiculous on their end.this is peoples lives that are at state while in this car.upon further investigation i have found over 8 complaints about the same thing with the sunroof and even an article where a family had the sunroof shatter on them as well and hyundai just settled out of court with them on january 21,2019.hyundai should be responsible for any damages like these and all car dealerships need to take these cars off their property. Someone could be severly hurt or even die due to things like this.none of this okay.i do not feel safe getting back into this car even if the sunroof was fixed.
This cars engine just shuts off when driving,it will not go into gear even though it says it's in drive etc. My husband parked the car in our flat driveway and the car went forward crushing him against the house.i pulled the car backwards even though it was it said it was in park to free him. Contacted hyundai corporate and they said they were not responsible.will be contacted a lawyer because this was caught on video from my ring doorbell.this happens all the time where it will not go into gear and you have to shut the car off and on 3xs before it will go into gear. Hyundai dealer says they can't duplicate the problem.
While driving in the center lane on interstate durning rush hour traffic at about 45mph my radio was off windows were up,my sunroof was closed and the skylight cover was in the back position which i never close because it gives me more head room. I hear what sounded like a bomb going off and shards of glass flying all throughout the car, nothing hit the roof, the sound was a sound of explosion. In a state of shock thinking i was shot or a road side bomb went off i pulled over to get the the glass out of my hair, face, and clean myself up the car was not drivable at that point due to the amount of glass inside the seats and exposed to weather. The explosion of the sunroof has cause cuts to my face back and hands. This is unsafe and is a huge risk to other motorist and the driver and it's passengers.
Faulty sun visor- visor mirrors malfunction as well as the visor interior was poorly made as the visor separates from the interior of the car. While driving this poses a danger as the visor mirror can fall out or the actual visor can flip down. Visors need to be replaced.
Ac converter knob melting, wiring harness black due to too high of voltage going through it.
The sunroof shattered violently in an upwards direction, sending some glass down inside the car and the rest all over the exterior. After googling i found out there are many other veloster owners that have had identical instances where their sunroofs shattered spontaneously.this could have resulted in serious injury. The dealership says they do not know exactly what causes it, but they are working on it with hyundai. They have another sunroof on order, but am worried i may have this happen again due to their manufacturing defect for this component.
Car goes in saftey mode and does not accelerate
I was driving home from work with pelting ice, just got off the expressway, stopped to get food for dinner.parked in a large lot, when i was walking out with my groceries, heard a sound like a gun shot. I was about 8 feet from my car and realized my sunroof just exploded.there was very sharp jagged pieces of glass all over my interior.i had to get a blanket from the trunk and sit on it to get home without cutting myself and nearly had another accident because the pelting ice was coming down on my face.thank god it didn't happen while i was on the expressway, probably would have killed someone or myself with glass exploding into my face.called the dealer, they were rude and uncaring until my wife got involved.she had to argue with the service assistant manager, brandy, on several occasions.i took my car in to kerry for the recall in 2014 and they gave it back to me saying it was tested and was safe. Brandy felt hyundai was liable and was very flippant with the wife...big mistake.she called the general manager of the dealership when brandy refused to pay for my rental car during the 4 weeks they had my veloster in for replacing the roof.all in all, this could have easily been a fatal issue if god hadn't been watching over me.it scares us to think of what could have been, just 15 minutes earlier.we feel hyundai should be sued for this, class action. I can't say i feel safe driving the vehicle now, but have no choice.

The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that he released the accelerator pedal but the vehicle did not begin to decelerate from 55 mph and continued to maintain a speed of 55 mph. The failure recurred frequently. The contact stated that the failure occurred most frequently while attempting to decelerate from sixth gear. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle was operating as intended. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 130.
About 10 feet from my parking space, i prepared and aligned my eyes to pull forward into the space.suddenly, my car accelerated and i jumped the curb, and crashed into my apartment building, without me being able to regain control of the car. Now i've been parking for many years, and i was not impaired in any way, shape or form.how fast must that car have accelerated to what mph? i'm terrified to drive the vehicle.i have noticed the whole time i had the car about a "lurching forward", be it a red light or in line at fast food line drive up.once it starts lurching forward i'm worried im going crash into the car in front of me in line or at the red light..also, sometimes when the light turns green, i hit the gas and the car doesn't go anywhere. Then violently throws the car forward accelerates.
Vehicle has entered into limp home mode multiple times, last time resulting in near collision from behind as throttle and transmission shifting become inoperable.vehicle does not produce any codes or check engine light.other symptoms prior to this condition were an engine miss while driving and complete stall in park.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate while waiting to complete a turn. The check engine light was illuminated prior to the failure. In addition, the contact stated that there was an occasional odor of gasoline inside the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that there was a vapor leak.the dealer was unable to determine or duplicate the acceleration failure. The manufacturer was made aware of issue however no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 200. The current mileage was 6,300.
My 2012 hyundai veloster stall and have a funny smell my car stall at a red light had to call the police to get it off the road
I was driving my car down a country road. No cars in front of me and none coming towards me. My husband was following behind me because we had just picked up car from having its first oil change and tire rotation. I was doing between 45 and 50mph. All of a sudden there was a loud bang like a gunshot and i heard something raining down on my car. I looked in the mirror and saw glass flying everywhere. I pulled over and asked my husband if something hit the car.he said no - it looked like the glass in the sunroof blew straight up like a coke exploding.the glass actually hit the front of his car. The glass was in my hair, down the back of my shirt and pants. The glass scratched me in several places.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the sun roof shattered without any warning. The contact mentioned that there were no injuries reported as a result of the failure. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,000.

My car was parked in a locked garage for about 5 hours. When i returned to my car the sunroof had exploded. The security cameras didn't see anyone near my car.
I was driving down the interstate when i heard a bang and saw that the back part of my sunroof had shattered. There were no projectiles found.
Sunroof exploded while the car was being operated along the highway. There was a sudden loud noise like a shot from a firearm. Then the glass from the sunroof started to fall into the interior of the car. There was damage to fabric liner that conceals the sunroof, and the rear spoiler. There might be other damage yet to be discovered.
I was outside of my house driveway when i heard a loud boom. The sunroof in my car exploded right before my eyes. The car was not on. It had been hours since i'd driven i,tthankfully. When the glass exploded i could see chunks and particles of glass flying at me. It was horrifying to think, that could have happened while i was driving.
While driving 45mph the sunroof exploded throwing glass and a portion of the sunroof on my head.
I was driving down the highway at 3am and my sunroof exploded out of nowhere. I had it tilted at the time, and glass shattered all over myself and my passenger and our personal items. I was able to safely exit the highway and call emergency roadside where an appointment was made for me to take in my car.we were en route to california at the time to relocate, so we were not able to make it to a dealer until the following monday after our saturday evening arrival. When we spoke with someone at the service department, he immediately disregarded the situation, saying the glass was not covered by the warranty. I would not accept this response, as my car was barely 2 months old and the experience was very traumatic. When i spoke to the service manager, he was able to arrange a rental for me which was paid for by hyundai. All repairs are also being covered by hyundai. Currently, my car has been in the shop for over 3 weeks. The glass, headliner, quarter panels, and essentially the entire outside of the car had to be replaced/repaired due to paint chips, scratches, and other surface damage suffered during the incident. I am currently attempting to contact the dealer where i purchased the car to see if they will buy the car back, as i am coming up on a time frame where the lemon law will be applicable to the amount of time i have been without my vehicle. At this point, although hyundai is covering my repairs and most of my rental (i was asked to cover the taxes), i am dissatisfied with the company. I previously owned a 2010 genesis that had problems, which i traded for my veloster.
The car was parked in my garage over night. In the morning, when leaving for work i found the cars sunroof had exploded. Glass was on the garage floor, car roof, windshield, hood, and rear glass. Shards of the sunroof were hanging down inside the car and there was shattered glass inside the car. The explosion caused the glass to blow out, and left a large hole where the sunfoof was located.this was a dangerous event and even if fixed i do not want to drive this car. If the sunroof is replaced what guarantee do we have that the problem has been researched, resolved, and that corrected componenets are being installed in our vehicle.
The hyundai veloster 2012 had a recall a few years ago concerning the sudden explosion of the panoramic sunroof. I took in my vehicle immediately to be checked out and was told the sunroof was fine. While driving the vehicle at about 65/70 miles per hour on the highway during rush hour, an extremely loud bang occurred. I immediately associated the loud bang as a gun shot. Glass from the ceiling fell into the vehicle and on my body as the sunroof cover ripped open. I was so startled, that i ducked trying to protect myself as glass was falling onto me while driving. I was able to turn on my hazards and pull over on the side of the road. Although, i did not speak to any witnesses, i am certain the semi-truck driving beside me saw what occurred as he turned on his hazards and slowed down to let me over. I was literally shaking from being so scared and caught off guard. I got out of the car to see what had occurred and my sunroof had exploded. The entire glass portion of the sunroof was gone except for the edges, which were left cracked. I attempted to take a picture, but it was dark and i was on the highway, which was not safe. My vehicle has been at the hyundai dealership since 12/21/16. I could not reach anyone at the service department, even though i called during hours of operation. I was then instructed to leave the vehicle over night. As of 5:48 pm on 12/22/16, i was told the service department is waiting on instruction from hyundai's corporate office and have not been provided a vehicle. Although, i did not suffer any serious injuries, i am very worried about the safety of others driving this vehicle. Not only is the glass itself dangerous, but the sound was so startling it could cause someone to veer off into other vehicles causing great bodily injuries. I had not opened the sunroof for days, perhaps even weeks as it has been very cold.
I was travelling down the interstate at around 70 mph on a clear mild day. There were no vehicles near me. I suddenly heard a loud *pop* *pop*. I looked in the mirrors in confusion thinking i had been or hit or shot at. Then glass started falling on me and into the interior of the car through the sides of the sunroof canvas. I pulled over to find my front sunroof panel had shattered into a million pieces. There was no way a projectile it. No vehicles close enough in front and no trees over that lane. Nothing seen by me either. Just a random explosion of glass. No extreme temps either.
Faulty sun visor- visor mirrors malfunction as well as the visor interior was poorly made as the visor separates from the interior of the car. While driving this poses a danger as the visor mirror can fall out or the actual visor can flip down. Visors need to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that while parked, the sun roof glass exploded. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic or the dealer, and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. The failure and current mileages were 6,000.
I purchased the veloster in early december 2011. It was at school in the parking structure in february of 2012 when i got a call from the campus police department saying my car had damage. When i arrived at the scene, i found the sunroof completely exploded. At the scene and after the incident, there were no witnesses of someone physically breaking in the window. There is a decent amount of traffic through the area so the idea of someone being able to break the sunroof in the middle of the day without being seen is unlikely. There was no damage to any other of the windows or any other parts of the car...there was just an exploded sunroof. There was no attempt to get into the car from the sunroof and nothing was stolen from inside of the car. The police report states that it must have been vandalism or attempted robbery, but from the shrapnel patterns from the glass seeming to blown outward from the inside, finding no objects to break into the car, and the lack of stolen property. I whole heartedly believe that the glass had spontaneous blowout which cost $7000 in repair costs.updated 10/19/12updated 10/23/2012
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the sun roof suddenly shattered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The technician stated that the sun roof would have to be replaced but they were unable to determine what caused the sun roof to shatter. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 6,100.
The sunroof on my 2012 veloster exploded while the vehicle was parked in my driveway, showering glass all over the interior and exterior of the car. Temperatures were mild and there were no sign of any objects striking the glass.
While driving home from work, today the panoramic sunroof shattered and crashed down with a loud sound, ,hyundai had already done a recall on my vehicle model for the same issue last year and i had checked it with a hyundai dealer who tested and found no issues with roof when they inspected it on june 2013 last year, suddenly it crashed and almost injured me very badly today,it could have been very fatal .ironically hyundai had issued a recall for the same last year but it did not seem to make any difference as the dealer s r not replacing the roofs ,its a grave concern and i urge the concerned authorities to kindly look into the matter as it could be a fatal issue on roads sometime soon if this continues.
After having the vehicle recalled, inspected, and repaired for a known sunroof issue,my hyundai veloster had no window issues for approximately 1 year. While driving down the highway on april 26th, my sunroof spontaneously exploded to pieces without cause or impact.the recall for the car was supposed to have fixed this potential issue.obviously, in my case, the recall did not work. The sunroof shattering was extremely loud and startling, nearly causing me to crash my vehicle.
I was driving my 2012 hyundai veloster on a paved road at 45 mph. The screen for the sunroof was open but the glass was closed. All of a sudden glass just rains down on me causing small cuts to my arms and face, small shards of glass are still embedded in my cell phone screen protector. Luckily i wasn't more seriously injured and there wasn't any vehicles around me because the sudden rush of air and glass to my face caused me to swerve.

The car was in the driveway at night when the sunroof imploded and shattered all over the seats.nothing fell on the car - it just imploded.at this time, a tow truck is coming to take it to the dealership.the car in only three months old.updated 10/02/12*lj
I was driving with a passenger on a freeway and the sunroof exploded downward, throwing glass all over us while driving 65 miles an hour.i was able to pull off of the road and clean off the seats and take it to the dealer for a replacement, but i have no idea if the replacement is safe.
While driving my car the sunroof exploded and shattered all over, the dealer and hyundai told me that my car was not part of the recall because it was made in may of 2012 and the recall was only up to april 2012.they obviously have the same problem with newer models as well.
While driving down a busy street, it sounded like a firecracker went off on the top of my car.i heard a loud bang and subsequent pops and cracks.when i pulled over, i saw my sunroof had completely shattered.nothing had hit my car, the sunroof just exploded into tiny glass pieces.

We were driving down the highway when our sunroof exploded. All of the glass shattered and flew everywhere some of it hitting another vehicle. The entire panoramic sunroof is missing.this was extremely dangerous situation. We were on the inside lane of traffic and had to carefully make our way across traffic as quick as possible as glass was still flying off of our roof. We called hyundai immediately to report what had happened and were told we needed to speak to service, when transferred, nobody answered. We were told to either drop off our car tonight or first thing in the morning.

While drive on highway at posted speed of 70 mph the sunroof imploded on me.the roof was in closed position.the glass shattered everywhere.i had very minor scrapes on my face and neck.i just happened to be close to the hyundai dealership and within 10 minutes of implosion i pulled into it.i had to lift myself out of my seat as the glass was on my clothing, all over the seats, in my purse and some pieces were still on the outside of the roof.dealership in round rock, texas was very concerned about my well being.they offered to call for medical assistance.i had minor scrapes and did not feel it necessary.the implosion made me think someone had shot me because of the sound when it imploded.i was extremely shaken, almost to the point of lightheadedness!i had this car checked in november of 2012 for the sunroof.i had not received a recall notice.i had been told about it by my customers where i worked.the dealership where i bought it in marlton, nj checked it and said everything was fine.the dealership there said they were not aware of any recall for a sunroof problem!i have no paperwork from that dealership stating that they had checked it for me.

I drove my car home on saturday....and didn't move it on sunday....however at night i went to move it in front of my others cars, and i was shocked by the scene ....the sunroof was totally exploded.......i think this is a mayor defect and could be dangerous if like everyday i was driving in the highway and it could explode in front of others cars.....the weather was beautiful, not hot, not cold, and not too much sun....

The dealership says they do not know exactly what causes it, but they are working on it with hyundai. They have another sunroof on order, but am worried i may have this happen again due to their manufacturing defect for this component.

While driving on the interstate i-10 west of tucson, the sun roof suddenly exploded. There were no other vehicles in front of us. Glass was falling into the vehicle while i attempted to slow down, turn on my hazard lights and get off at the next exit. My husband andfriend were in the car with me and they were able to try and hold up the fabric that covers the sunroof so i could try to get us off the road. Glass was all over us and the vehicle. Damage also happened along the top of the vehicle(it's all glass). I contacted my insurance company and hyundai. I was told by hyundai that while there were several vehicles like mine, same year and model were recalled, but mine was not on the recall list. After going the next day to the dealer where i purchased it, they are going to fix the damage as well as give me a rental car. Hyundai is paying for all of it. While i'm very happy they are paying for all damages, i really think they need to further investigate the recall. Mine was manufactured may 14, 2012, i was told the last date of the vehicles involved in the recall was april 2012. They have also recalled 2013 models with the same issue. I find it hard to believe that this is coincidence. We were truly fortunate that we were not in a very serious accident because of this incident. I'm very concerned that they are replacing the glass and not the actual structure of the sunroof. Will this happen again? something needs to be addressed before someone else is involved in a serious or possibly fatal accident. I believe hyundai knows they are at fault, otherwise they would not be doing these repairs at no cost.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. While the vehicle was parked and opening the sun roof, a piece of the plastic housing fractured and jammed the sun roof. As a result, the sun roof could not close. The contact was able to remove the piece of fractured housing and close the sun roof. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 13v051000 (visibility) and 12v568000 (visibility). The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
The sunroof exploded while i was driving with 2 passengers. We heard the explosion but did not realize it was my car until glass leaked from the cloth panel under the sunroof onto my friend in the passenger seat. We moved the car off of the road and called the police. The police went back to the sight where the explosion happened and did not find any object that would have hit the car. The car is less than 3 months old and has less than 2500 miles on it. The day of the incident was warm but not hot like it has been.updated 10/23/12*lj updated 10/26/2012
While driving down the freeway at 65 mph, the sunroof shattered and glass fell down on me while driving. Fortunately,i was not injured and was able to safely exit the freeway.the car had been checked for a recall for defective sunroofs and had passed inspection by the dealer.
On september 16th 2012, approximately 4 months after purchasing the vehicle, i was driving east on i-90 at about 70 mph when my sunroof exploded. There were no vehicles in my immediate vicinity and no foreign object made contact or entered my vehicle. The sunroof was closed when this happened and i was not trying to operate it at the time of the incident. It sounded like a water balloon popped and then glass came raining down on top of my head and into my car. There were no passengers in the vehicle other than the driver and there were no injuries.
The contact owns a 2012 hyundai veloster. The contact stated that while driving 75 mph, she heard a loud noise and glass started shattering. On saturday, 3/30/2013, i entered my garage at 04:00 a.m. And found that the sunroof of my 2012 hyundai veloster had exploded (detonated) sometime during the night. Glass fragments covered the entire front end of my car to include the floor in front of the car.on friday, 3/29/2013, i had the sunroof open for the majority of the 50 mile drive home from work with no issues. When i parked the car inside the garage the sunroof closed fine and was not shattered. The car remained parked in the garage until i discovered the event the next morning.i entered the car to retrieve some personal items at approximately 9:00 p.m. On the 29th and the sun roof was fine. So. Sometime between 9:00 p.m. And 04:00 the event occurred.i have a finished garage, with a sheetrock ceiling. Nothing fell on my roof!i can't imagine the resulting effects if i had been driving this vehicle when the sunroof exploded.

The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 62,587.
On september 29, 2012 (approximately 1 pm) my wife was driving at 55mph on i 93 near exit 8 in manchester new hampshire. She drove over a normal bump in the road and without warning the sun roof of my 2012 hyundai veloster exploded into and out of the car. My wife had glass embed into her scalp.she proceeded to exit 9 and pulled off the highway where she met me. Injuries were minor and no professional help was needed, i removed the glass from her scalp. We called the nh state police and notified them of the incident. We did not file an official police report at that time. The sun roof glass was destroyed and covered the interior and exterior. The paint on the exterior has many scratches and deep gouges, the interior has glass embedded into the upholstery. Today (oct 9, 2012) i went to pick up my car at the dealer, the roof has been fixed but the paint is destroyed by the incident and the interior has glass embedded into it. The car is a hazard to try and sit in. I brushed the rear seat and glass stuck into my hand. The car is currently at the dealer, this issue is still in process with the dealership. My wife refuses to drive the vehicle. I have asked for a written document from hyundai such as an engineering report stating that the problem has been researched, resolved and that corrected components are being installed in our car & not just another piece of defective glass installed that will shatter on us while driving at highway speeds. I want my new car put back to new condition like it was before this incident. I also filed a formal complaint with hyundai after the incident on october 1, 2012. I can supply you with the case number if necessary....updated 10/17/12 updated 10/19/2012
2012 hyundai veloster the sunroof exploded sending glass 20' out and into the vehicle since the sunroof was open.the vehicle was parked at the time no stress to the glass.this vehicle also had been into the dealership for the warranty on the sunroof and was given a pass on the glass not being the kind that would explode.that warranty test was obviously inaccurate.

While driving 70mph on i95 n in va with the sunroof popped open (not slid all the way back) there was a loud pop that sounded like an explosion or gunshot and the roof glass shattered and fell into the car. Control of the car was maintained and since i did not want to pull over on a busy highway i proceeded to drive directly to the hyundai dealership in fairfax, va. While driving, shattered glass continued to slide down our backs (me and one passenger). After we parked and exited the car we had to shake the shards of glass from our hair and clothes. My passenger and i were able to remain calm through this ordeal but i was still trembling when we arrived at the dealership.on feb. 8, 2013 the car was taken to the dealership (checkered flag hyundai) and the sunroof was inspected for a recall by hyundai. After the recall inspection was complete it was reported that the sunroof had passed and was not part of the recalled batch of glass. Clearly the procedure hyundai created to test for this problem was not sufficient and did not catch all the problem glass.

From 9/8/2015 to 11/14/15 i have had three tires needing replacement due to their sensitivity of minimal road conditions and getting damaged.each time i hit a small pot hole, small enough to where i thought it was a dip in the road as i came upon it.but once there i couldn't safely maneuver around it to avoid it.the style of these tires are 18" wheels which leaves no room for cushion.i have never had a problem with my sports cars, so i didn't think to ask about tire issues when i purchased this one.i cannot continue to purchase a new tire approximately every 3 weeks, so on 11/18/15 i have to pay another significant amount of money to purchase a full set of tires that will hopefully not blow out at any bump or twig in the road.the roads i travel are city roads and aren't even hazardous roads with ultimately dangerous driving conditions.i purchased this car in july 2015, and to have to go through all this in less than 6 months is ridiculous.my paperwork is all through discount tire in auburn hills, michigan.

I have had 3 tire blowouts on my 2012 hyundai veloster.all for the original hyundai tires.3 of the 4 tires have been replaced.the car only has 25,000 to date. I have never had any other vehicle with such consistent issues..
The hyundai veloster comes with very low profile tires and does not have a spare tire. The thin side walls on the low profile tires make them prone to blow out hitting very small pot holes. The 'inflator' that comes with the vehicle has never been usable for any of the 7 tire blow outs that have occurred in the last year or so of normal city driving, leading to frequent strandings and long tows. The nature of the tire failure means it is very dangerous at speed, the tires go from impact to being unable to drive in less than 30 seconds, leaving little room to get to safety.the combination of unsafe tires for anything but perfect road conditions and no spare and an absolutely ineffective tire repair system, poses a significant safety risk to consumers.

The low rider rear tires were making loud noises - rear left went flat - cheap tires because the belts were showing through the tire - got towed to bangor, maine to nearest dealership - they replaced the faulty tire and told me the left one was also showing through the belts.
