The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 55 mph, the air bag warning indicator began to flash and remained lit. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 67,879.

I went to my dealer today and they reported that my car in fact did not have a safety recall set for my car. Therefore there were no repairs to list or update..i attached the supporting document that my dealership printed out for me today..

I tapped a car in front of me going less than 5 mph, not even a scratch on either car, but the steering wheel & the driver airbag deployed, causing cuts, bruises, & scrapes. The officer, the emt, as well as the other driver have no idea why they would go off in such a slow, light tap. The damage to me, as well as the inconvenience is disturbing.

The air bag control module is defectiveand need to be replaced. This marks several times i've had problems with this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, another vehicle made an illegal-u turn and crashed into the driver side. The rear driver seat air bag deployed partially but no other air bags deployed. The contact and her husband sustained whiplash but no medical attention was sought. In addition, the contacts daughter who was seated in the rear of the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt mentioned encountering with air bag debris. The contact had underlying respiratory conditions and due to the debris intends to visit a doctor. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed by the police to a lot where geico inspected the failure but further information was provided. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Passenger side airbag cover popped off.

I was in a collision in which i was going 10 mph and the other car was going 45 mph on a divided highway intersection.my airbags deployed.however, when the driver's steering wheel airbag deployed it shot the hyundai logo from the steering wheel into my arm at 200 mph.the only injury that i sustained was from the "h" logo that was propelled into my right forearm; i sustained a deep bone bruise/minor impact fracture.when i reported this to hyundai they investigated and determined that the airbags deployed properly and that i should expect the logo to be shot from the steering wheel along with the airbag.however, i also own a 2011 hyundai and the steering wheel does not have a separate logo but an imprinted "h".i don't think that when an airbag deploys it should shoot anything except for the airbag.the logo hit my arm but if it hit my eye i would have lost my eye.if it hit my throat it could have collapsed my airway. Airbags are supposed to protect you and not cause injury.i don't understand why i should have anticipated that this piece would become a projectile in an accident, or why its acceptable.

On saturday 9/16/17 i was at a stop light sitting still when my car stalled and went dead. I looked at the dashboard and saw the engine light was on. The brake was frozen and before i could restart the car it rolled into the vehicle in front of me. There no damage to her jeep. However my car hit the spare tire and rack on the back of her trunk, causing damage to the hood of my car, the grill and lower bumper. We did not exchange information, as she did not have damage to her car, so she left the scene. I drove the car home (2 miles from my house) and called the dealership. They told me to bring the car in. I brought it in the same day. Raymond, the service agent came outside to survey the damage and i told him what happened. He went to talk to the service manager and later came out and said they will take the car and put it on the machine to get a diagnostic reading to see why the car stalled. They gave me a loaner car and i left. On monday, 9/19/17, i returned to the dealership after i got off work and was told by raymond that they could not find anything wrong thus far. He said he wanted to keep the car another day or two to take it for a drive and try to see if it would stall again. I agreed and asked raymond to also check the fuel injectors, fuel pump, fuel regulator, as my friend who is a car mechanic suggested to me that this can cause a car to stall also.he said okay. On today, wednesday 9/21/17, raymond called me and said they took the car out for a drive and it did not stall, nor could they get a reading that anything was wrong when they put it on the machine. He said he could not understand why the car would stall. I asked for a diagnostic report and he said he could only give me a copy of the service ticket. I am afraid that this car could stall again and what if it happens while driving -- it could be much worst damage and bodily harm. Please help!

Autonomous emergency braking system (aeb) does not work on streets or highway. I have 10 dash cam video's that show no alarms when coming up on stopped obstructions. Car has been in shop 3 times and dealer reports that there is nothing wrong with the cruise control and refuses to demonstrate that it is working normally. I will be happy to upload the video's however the file type is not one of your types below.

Back brakelight bulb has been changed 10 timesthey go out repeatedly from side to side

The contact leases a 2017 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the automatic emergency system that engaged the warning alert system when a vehicle was being followed closely failed. In addition, the instrument panel also failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The dealer test drove the vehicle and was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer technical support was contacted the technical team advised the dealer that if all other electrical function was operating, the emergency alert system should also be operating as normal. The failure mileage was 800.

I noticed immediately that the car seemed to drag during takeoff. On monday upon crossing the bridge down lurlene b wallace blvd the car engine shut down in the middle of traffic.

Trunk will not open, with dash button, trunk button, or key.stationay with $173 perishible groceries inside, will be oderious by the time it gets to a shop.parked in garage.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While parking the vehicle and shifting into reverse, the rear camera failed to display an image on the monitor. Also, the lights around the monitor and the gear shifter failed to illuminate. The contact stated that he was able to shift the vehicle into park. Upon attempting to shift back into reverse, the gear shifter failed to move. The vehicle was then turned off and restarted and operated correctly after a few minutes. The contact also mentioned that a rattling noise was heard in the front of the vehicle for 15 minutes after starting the vehicle and driving. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 800.

The trunk latch would not open. It would not respond with key fob, interior button, button under the handle or with the key. Forced it open once and then had to force it closed. Stayed closed until repair could be made. Hyundai would not cover cost or repair. There was no damage, short or anything else that would explain why this part failed except for cheaply made plastic part that wore out.

This is the plugin hybrid model.the lithium ion battery cannot be charged sometimes due to overheating condition.if this is not fixed, it might cause a fire or explosion. Sometimes, it will not let you charge. It will not even let you turn off the charge schedule to charge. Sometimes, it stops charging due to thermal problem. Hyundai is not taking responsibility to fix this.attached photo documented that it did not allow me to switch off the charge scheduler to start charging.i hope hyundai will address this problem beforethe car burns up or explodes.

Wirring handss, engine red lights on and can't go over 55 miles, start to shake

After receiving recall mail, yesterday i left my vehicle at service. They gave me back my car and told me they have fixed it. After driving less than a mile the engine stoped and a yellow light turned on.again left my vehicle at the same service, today i called them and told me that they will probably fixing it after receiving the part next week. If it won't get fixed they are planning to change the engine. Is this a normal process! and what happens to the value of the car if the engine changes?

While going down the highway, the vehicle's check engine, abs, tpms, traction control, air bag, electronic steering & emergency brake lights all came on simultaneously. & at that same time the speedometer & tachometer both dropped to 0, the digital display of the engine temp guage, gear setting & other onboard displays went down while the car was in motion on the highway. I was able to safely pull over to the shoulder but once the car was placed in park the shifter locked & i was no longer able to change gear settings.

I own a 2017 hyundai sonata and this week the trunk release would not operate. In checking the release mechanism i discovered a plastic part in the trunk release mechanism had broken. The reason for this complaint is that broken part does not allow the trunk to open manually from the inside of the trunk. If a child of adult person was accidentally or purposely put in the trunk they would not be able to escape. Attached are a couple photos showing the trunk release mechanismwith the yellow manual safety release and a photo showing the broken plastic part. This is a safety issue and consumers should not be force to pay to have this part replaced by teh manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While the vehicle was turned off and parked inside the garage, the blue link system turned the vehicle on without warning. The vehicle was turned off. The dealer (murdock hyundai murray, (801) 262-6401) was called, but made no mention of sending a technician from the manufacturer or if a provider of the blue link system would investigate the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not provide diagnostic testing. The vin and failure mileage were not available.

Over the past month my car has been in the shop four times due to it malfunctioning while i am driving it - and that is not including when i took it in at the end of august because the trunk merchanism broke and it wouldn't close. The first time happened over labor day weekend when i was on a roadtrip, out of nowhere the car would not accelerate and, like others on the nhsa website have stated, it was very jumpy and wouldn't go past 45 mph. I took it to the dealer where they replaced a safety recall in the wiring system and it worked fine for a few days before it had the same problem again. When i took it to the dealer the second time they told me the engine needed to be replaced because the engine was essentially broken and there were little metal pieces inside. It took a week to replace and then everything was fine for a few days until yesterday. Yesterday the battery light turned on and the repair shop let me know the battery was in good health but low on charge so they charged it and it seemed to be working fine. Then this morning while on the highway all of the emergency service lights (check engine, check brakes, etc.) came on at the same time and the steering wheel locked up and it was undrivable. I by some miracle managed to pull the car over where i had to get the car towed to the dealer where i am awaiting to hear what is wrong. Do not purchase this car. After reading up on it apparently there seems to be issues with the engine and electrical system, that is extremely dangerous. I was lucky enough to not hit anyone but i could have been seriously injured all four times the car malfunctioned. All of these issues have been confirmed by the dealer to have been due to manufactural defects - something that is out of my control and shouldn't happen for a car that is under 26k miles.

I bought the car used from a scam dealership. I had no idea that there was an engine recall in january until it turned off and on just one week after leaving the lot. I brought it back to them, obviously, they said it wasn't their problem. I then took it to college park hyundai to have them update the knock sensor and diagnose the issue. After an extended road test, it was decided that my problem was an isolated incident. Yet i took it to other dealerships, and pretty much everyone says the same. My dash cam has recorded the moments when the car stutters and fails to accelerate before turning back on a couple seconds later. It has happened on curves and i have nearly drove off the highway due to this. It only happens when the car is reaching about 60mph. I live in md but work in va. I'm paying high interest for a crappy lemon car. I even contacted corporate hyundai, and they just laughed and called me stupid for buying a used car...

Car gives warning message to "immediately shut off the car to prevent damage ".... This has happened numerous times and hyundai doesn't seem to have a fix, and doesn't think its a safety issue.this is a safety issue particularly when you are in heavy traffic with no place to move over to shut off the car.

After a tire change the hazard light and tire light came on. I was advised to take it to the shop and see if the sensor needs to be reset. I took it in a shop and the tire light went away but the hazard light remained. After about a week with the hazard light on, i was driving in the morning around 7:30am the car started to brake itself while driving about 30mph on an austin town street. I pulled over due to risk of getting rear ended. I was able to drive about 10 feet before it did it again and i parked. The "check hybrid engine" light then came on. I sat for about 20 min and tried to turn it on and the "check hybrid battery light came on again and this time the car wouldnt turn on. I called a tow truck and had them tow it to happy hybrid in austin tx and was advised it may be my hybrid battery generator as my hybrid battery was at 5%. They could not fix it but it should be covered under warranty and i had to have it towed to the hyundai dealership in south austin tx on south ih-35. It has been there now for 2 weeks and i am without a vehicle. The dealership stated this may be related to 2 recalls i have on my vehicle but they are not sure. I purchased this car february 2018 and it is now march 2020. Only 2 years.

My car is a death trap, i have already been in one accident and too scared to drive it, it just sits in my driveway. When you make a left turn at say a red light the car go's about 5 feet and then stops for 3 seconds, people behind honk at you and then the car rockets forward, i have already been hit once and the other driver took off, so i was left with the bill. The dealership says they can't fix it, even though it has a powertrain warranty.please tell me what i can do.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*pm

I bought my car november 28, 2017. On june 27, 2019, the interior lights and the license plate light were inoperative. I've brought the car into the dealership i bought the car fromthree times, but they were unable to fix the problem. Now, my car has been in a different dealership for the past approximately two weeks, and it still hasn't been fixed. If i drive a vehicle without a functioning license plate light, i'm subject to a $30 fine. I've begun to assemble documentation for a lemon law complaint. I'm including the repair invoice for the first time i brought my car into the original dealership and the last time i brought the car into the original dealership. So please disregard the attachment information at the bottom of the forms.

I had experienced problems with the brakes making noise and not reacting timely throughout 2019 before knowledge of a recall. On 5/15/19 i went to hyundai services for a routine oil change. Hyundai informed me that there was a recall, which i now know to be service campaign 953, and that they needed a software update to resolve the issue. On my drive home after the software update was supposedly corrected, my check engine light started flashing and my car would not accelerate, was jerking, and was stopping in the middle of the road. This occurred in a residential area on a city street. I immediately called and brought the car back in.five days later on 5/20/19, i experienced the same issue. On or about 7/26/19, my power steering began malfunctioning and my steering wheel would lock if i turned my steering wheel at all. The only way to undo this was by restarting the car, and it would just happen again. The steering wheel locked on city streets. I took my car into hyundai services on 7/26/19, and it took them until 8/12/19 to finally resolve the issue by replacing the whole steering column and housing. During this time period, hyundai repeatedly returned the car to me and claimed the issue was resolved but the issue kept reoccurring. On 12/28/19, the check engine light began flashing again with the exact same problems experienced 5/15/19 and 5/20/19. The check engine light appeared as soon as i exited the interstate and was driving on a city street. My car was returned to me on 12/31/19.

Cars steering wheel locks up and car dies out on turns on any road, highway or speed . Last issue while entering a freeway. Car must sit then restarted to allow it to be usable. No warning given when this happens. Contacteddealership. No help was given.has been an issues since purchase. At lease 15 times in one year.

While driving the 2017 hyundai sonata at speeds of 60 plus mph the steering wheel locks up and the power steering light comes on along with the traction control lights. This incident has even caused damage to the right front corner of my hyundai due to losing steering causing me to veer in to the guard rails.

On november 23, 2019 i started my car and proceeded to back out of my drive way. My power steering locked, the light came on along with my traction control light. I had to force my steering wheel to turn my car back into my driveway to get it off the roadway. I turned my car off, and back on and lights disappeared and i had control again. A few weeks later, driving down the road my steering got tight and fought my car to get it home. I got it towed to the dealership. They told me the whole power steering column had to be replaced. There was also a recall on a clicking noise i had been hearing for a few months in the steering column. They refused to think it was there problem. Today january 2, 2020 i was driving on a straight road, going 55 miles per hour. Traction control light came on and power steering. I lost control of steering my car. I had just enough time to get my car off the road to avoid getting hit. I turned the car off, and the lights seized. This car is very unsafe to drive and hyundai is doing nothing to fix the problem other than giving expensive bills to fix. The car is not even 3 years old, there should not be this many problems already. Also paint is randomly peeling on the roof and hood of my car.

What a horrible experience, at about 6:45am esatern time on 07/25/2019, while driving on the highway the car trunk flipped open without any warning signs or any signs of defect and i immediately pulled over by emergency side and tried to close it back, after all failed attempts to close the trunk, with trunk wild open, i had to drive straight down to the hyundai dealership were the car was purchased (rick case hyundai duluth 3190 satellite blvd, duluth ga 30096) and to my utmost surprise, after explaining the incident to the service manager, i was told that the warranty does not cover such mechanical defect and they charged me $233 just to fix the latch, i tried to contact hyundai customer care and they did not offer any solutions at all, what a very poor customer experience. This is the 3rd time i have to deal with this problem of trunk latch problems and no one seems to care or help out.. Really disappointed with hyundai.my contact phone number: [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Traction control light comes on while driving in optimal conditions.car only has 30k miles on it and most research points to cheap plastic brake light switch failure causing tc sensor to malfunction.

On 7/17/19 my car lost power while driving on city street.unable to steer or control vehicle.took to dealer who said there were no error codes shown and that it was the electric oil pump.on 8/12/19, the same thing happened while driving on expressway.complete power failure while vehicle was in motion.unable to steer or control car.took back to dealer.again, no error codes found.they later claimed that a relay had melted and that was the problem.on 12/28/19, again driving 70mph on busy expressway, vehicle lost all power and i was unable to steer car.took to dealer on 12/29 after it happened a second time in two days.there were unable to look at vehicle that day and told me to bring back next day.it stalled again while i was leaving parking lot, i asked the maintenance tech to come and look to see what was happening, he refused.dropped car off on 12/30.on 1/2/20, dealer called to say no error codes found, after driving 100 plus miles, were unable to determine cause of problem and i should pick up my vehicle.i explained this is unacceptable.they called me back later claiming it is the electric steering column portion of motor control power steering rack and want $1800 to fix.this is a major safety issue, loosing complete power and ability to steer while driving.dealer has done nothing to reassure me that this is the actual problem.

I purchased my 2017 hyundai sonata on july 21, 2017 in houston, tx. Early june 2019 i receiveda letter regarding a recall on the engine, i took it to the local dealership and got the required update. On june 17, 2019 my vehicle became inoperable on the highway due to the recall, which placed it in a safety mode and caused the engine light to blink continuously. I parked my vehicle, contacted hyundai towing and had it delivered to a dealership. After four days with no call to update me on my vehicle, offer a loaner car or rental, i contacted the 800 number and was told there was nothing hyundai could do to assist with the inconvenience they have caused. My complaint was sent to case manager, diane c. (714-965-3595). I never received a response from diane. On july 13, 2019, i traveled to chicago, il, while on the highway going around 70 mph, the car again placed itself in safety mode, pulling it back down to 45 mph and causing the vehicles behind me to brake and swerve in the attempt to not rear end me. I immediately went to the closest hyundai dealership, rogers hyundai, 2700 s michigan ave, chicago il, 60616. The service manager, tony serpico, was no help to me whatsoever. He was very rude and insincere to my problem. I contacted the towing company again and had my vehicle towed to another dealership. I needed to return home for work so i rented a vehicle at my own expense. Diane finally contactedme after i called and sent 'alerts' to her several times. I explained the whole situation to her and have yet to get a response regarding my vehicle, a rental or my reimbursement.i am very upset at the way hyundai has treated me throughout this whole ordeal, which is at no fault of my own. Instead of replacing the engine or buying back the vehicle hyundai continues to put me and my family in danger.

Car loses power in situations where you need to accelerate like passing and merging. We just bought this vehicle 8/3/2019. This is bery dangerous. After the car jerks and loses power, then it suddenly comes back full throttle. I was almost hit by another car as iost power while merging into 55mph traffic. The car is now in the shop and we are awaiting a diagnostic. This is very dangerous and if not corrected should cause these cars to be taken out off the road.

Had open recall ,, an ecm update and wile hyundai in columbia ct. And after it was done the car worked fine for about a week , now i'm lacking acceleration for miles per gallon has decreased 50% burning gas quickly plus is burning about a quart of oil a week, but there's no check engine light, change the spark plugs and air filter still the power has decreased 30%. I noticed that decrease in power when entering on to a highway and i tried to accelerate into traffic but it did not have any power at first until it started bucking and then it's finally getting some momentum. The spark plugs were changed but the problem still persist! still at this time the problem is unknown to me

I bought the car new in 2017. Since approximately 3000 miles, oil consumption has progressed from 1 quart per oil change to 3 quarts per oil change (vehicle has around 92k miles). Oil is changed every 7k miles with the recommended oil viscosity and type (synthetic) along with the factory oil filter change. No noted leaks or smoking, but there is valve train noise when the oil level is 1 quart low or lower.

We purchased our car at 28,000 miles & around when it got to 40,000 miles, the car , when it has been in idle for too long, when i go to turn my vehicle off, the engine seems to still be running or shakes. I sometimes am able to turn it on again & turn it off & it's fine, but sometimes somehow when the engine is till running, when i go to 'turn it on' it's already on so i can just put it in drive.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While stopped at a light, the vehicle stalled and was unable to restart. Also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact was finally able to restart the vehicle and drove home. The vehicle was taken to world hyundai matteson (located at 5337 miller cir dr, matteson, il 60443, (866) 486-2915) where it was diagnosed that it consumed an extreme amount of oil, but there was no remedy available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 57,000.

Engine uses full synthetic oil at a rapid rate. One quart of full synthetic had to be added after driving only 3600 miles from previous oil change, and again at 4700, and even then the dipstick was still 1/2 quart below full when oil was changed at 4800 miles from previous oil change. Hyundai service technician could find no oil leaks.

While accelerating, especially up inclines, i would hear a knocking sound, feel vibrations, the check engine light would come on and the acceleration would not work. I would coast for a little bit (up to about a minute) before the acceleration would work again properly. This causes a very hazardous situation as other vehicle behind are still attempting to accelerate while i can not. This has happened to me at least 5 times in the last month and a half. The manufacturers service center that i took the vehicle to said that they couldn't reproduce the issue so there is "nothing wrong" with the vehicle.

When starting car, it starts shaking real hard then cuts off. It doesn't at times.

Just before 50,000 miles car started using 1/2 a quart of oil every 2500-3000 miles. Car now has 116k miles and is up to 2+ quarts every 2 weeks. Have brought it up and questioned service department at reliable hyundai in springfield mo, and they told me it was normal to use up to a quart every 1000 miles because of the low tension rings they use to get fuel mileage! i have emailed them today, and am waiting a response.

I stopped at a stoplight and was sitting there for a few minutes. As the light turned green, i hit the gas to go and it wouldn't. Upon looking down at the dash, the engine light (and another red one) was on, the engine had stalled! i hit my push to start button and everything came back on.

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. While driving the engine light comes on and blinks rapidly and the car drops from the speed of 65 to 15 or below in second. The code was p1326 with is the knock senor. I changed it and the code went away. Weeks later the code returned while driving again with me and my 3 little babies in the car again.same issue engine light came on blinking speed drop rapidly. Read this is an occurring issue with this car and it must be taken in to the dealer for fixing.dealer refused to check out the issue.

Campaign 953i received a recall notice by mail for the knock sensor detection system software update and it was completed on 03/19/2019. The vehicle doesn't accelerate past 20 mph, jerks and hesitate. I contact the hyundai dealer service department and told them about the problem and gave me an appointment for the next day. The vehicle was inspected and i was advised that the vehicle is not safe to drive, will not provide me a loaned vehicle and will not cover a rental. My wife just gave birth to our son on 03/21/2019 and we were depending on this vehicle to transport the baby from the hospital to our home. I was basically forced to purchase another vehicle with another company, because the hyundai representative could not give me a date or an approximation of when the vehicle will be fixed. I still owed $3500 and still paying insurance for it. I need help.

The thea-engine is bad and needs to be replaced. After diagnostics determined the engine indeed needs to be replaced; they added the rods and bearings did not cause issue so they will not cover cost. The big lie is that the, "rods and bearings was not part of the original evaluation diagnostics done on the engine. It was added to remove the connection that cause prior recalls. It is the same problem and millions of unsuspecting auto purchasers should be made aware. This company has been making cars since 2011 with faulty engines, "stay away" the dealership said the engine must be replaced

Purchased the vehicle at 46000 miles. Ever since it reached 60000 miles i have been getting oil changes sooner. I used to change oil every 3500 miles, but now i notice the low oil level light after only 2000 miles and sometimes less. It usually comes up when i press my brakes.

Engine turned off when stopped at a stop light. All the lights turned on and i had to put the car in park and turn the car back on. The engine also struggles to start when it is parked in cold air. It also struggles to start anytime its parked in a parking garage.

My car has been hesitating and cuts off while driving. Whether i go 25 miles per hour or 70 my car continues to hesitate. When it hesitates i can rev the car with the accelerator to the floor but my car wont engage. I have to take my foot off the accelerator and hope my car re-engages or my engine will cut off and i have to restart it. I have had my car in the shop 5 times. 0n 11/22 orlando hyundai replaced low pressure fuel pump. On 12/18 per the tech line says high resistance injector harness and fuel rail high pressure sensor needed replacing. On 12/23 the pcm has intermittent internal open circuit. The pcm was replaced and fuel line. 1/12-1/23/18 replace control harness and crank sensor. I placed my car into lemon law. I received a letter from hyundai to bring my car in today 2/22 i was asked if i had any other problems and told them my car hesitated at odometer reading 10022 miles they check my car and was told my car has no issues found. John mc my service advisor drove my car with me in it he says he knows there is a problem and it hesitated on him and say but we don't know how to fix it. He said today we didn't recreate the issue so we believe your car is fixed. This car is a safety issue. This is the same problem i had with a 2015 sonata. I traded that in for a elantra that was way to small for me and i traded for this 2017 sonata. This car is a major safety issue.not sure what to do.hyundai needs to find out what wrong with this car so when this problem arises to another hyundai a solution can be found. Just give me a new sonata and i would be happy, i bought my car with 6 miles on itdo the right thing hyundai. It's awful scary at 70 mph to have this hesitation begin. What does it take for hyundai to do something (have an accident?)

Wirring handss, engine red lights on and can't go over 55 miles, start to shake

My uses up a lot of oil, i have to put in oil a lot an now the engine in my car is gone it makes a weird noise in the engine, can't speed up an the engine is knocking. I was told that one of the pistons in my car is messed up because the car burns so much oil an it was heated up an now a piston is messed an its hitting against the inside of the motor an my motor has internal damage an if it didn't break downon the interstate already it would of been worst so. I'm out of a car an i need my to make money so

The engine was repaired however the failure recurred as the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for a second diagnosed test which determined the engine coolant cylinder failed. The contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 20v746000 (engine) as a possible solution to the failure however the vin and year of the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however did not compromise a solution to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Excessive oil consumption. I bought the car in used condition back in june 2019 with approximately 82,000 miles on it. It currently has 125,000 miles on it and only recently have i been experiencing this issue. I change the oil on this car every 5,000 miles or so since i do plenty of commuting for work. The last time i took my car to get the oil changed before i noticed the problem was in december 2020. I never bothered to check the oil because i had complete confidence that the oil was topped off at every oil change. However, i started noticing that the car felt forced whenever i tried to accelerate. I also started noticing a subtle rattling noise coming from under the hood whenever i would try to accelerate. I had a mechanic check my car in january 2021 when he checked the oil levels and pointed out that there was nothing on the dipstick. What is even stranger is that no dashboard light had come on. I had driven the car approximately 2,500 since the the oil change in december and it was already empty. I checked under the car where i park both at home and at work and there are no oil spills on the ground. I've read several forums where people have the same issue with older models of this car and there are recalls for those models. However, i've also come across forums where people are experiencing the same issue with newer models such as mine. I will be taking this car to a hyundai dealer to address the issue. But at this point, i have to add about quart of oil every just to keep it full and to prevent the engine from seizing while i am driving. This is a huge concern.

Engine cuts off in the middle of traffic would not allow me to move gear shift reported issue since october 2018. Car recently had 3 recalls that were repaired however engine is still shutting off and gear shift won't move and engine light is on and off. I got a diagnostic and it had 3 codes of intake manifold and valve. I bought the car like this.

After driving an hour or two, when you stop and fill her up with gas, the car engine will not start after it's full and you're ready to get out on the road again. You have to wait like 20 minutes and maybe more, before the car starts again. Meantime, the gas attendant is already annoyed why you can't move your car?

Since app. 50000 mile mark engine has consumed oil and its increasing as mileage goes up its getting worse, having to check oil prior to going anywhere now, one time oil light came on had to put 2 quarts in at an auto zone store. Have checked found no leaks and have had car on hoist engine running with no leaks showing. Vehicle has been serviced for 2 recalls on the engine stalling and rpm slowingmaking car practically undriveable. Iwas told to drive car into dealership for recall usingside roads as rpm would only go to 2000. I think that action may have causedthe problem i am now having.

This is my first time buying a brand new car in my mid 40's. I purchased the car (plug in hybrid) with only 25 miles on march 15, 2018 and after 7 days and 353 miles later, upon driving and coming to a stop in the city of philadelphia, pa, the car stalled and lost power. Warning message "check hybrid system." i had to step on the gas pedal all the way down to the floor and waited a second or two in order for it to move at a turtle's pace. Fortunately, i was able to find a safe spot to park the car. It was towed to a local hyundai dealership near me and as of yesterday, 3/27, no diagnostic findings. I have notified hyundai motor america and they have opened a case#. I have also reached out to the selling dealer to help me with this matter. This is extremely upsetting and disappointing, especially for me as new car buyer!!!

First extended drive of new car, check engine light came on.took it to dealer for service, was told i had "bad fuel" that they tested a sample and found e85 (ethanol) in it, which is not covered by hyundai new car warranty for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.i paid $828 to have fuel drained and replaced, fuel injection cleaning, and decarbonizing and throttle body cleaning.check engine light went away, but turned back on a few days later.again took it to dealer but they were unable to get it to turn on after i left it, so returned the car to me, no charge.i had only added 87 octane gasoline (per owner's manual recommendation) to my car 3 times prior to the first check engine light episode, at stations that did not sell e85.during subsequent conversation with hyundai rep, was told maybe water was in gas.but engine ran fine and i drove 100 miles after last gas fillup so i suspect there may be a problem with the emissions sensor that manifests as check engine light with random (inaccurate) diagnostic code.i got this car in chicago, but illinois is not a low emissions vehicle state, so the plug-in hybrid is not allocated to hyundai dealers in illinois.the sonata hybrid, however, is sold here but i don't know if it shares the same engine/emissions sensing system as my plug-in hybrid electric.dealer service did check for obvious things:gas cap, resetting the engine diagnostic chip.i understand the 2016 model phev is substantially the same as my 2017 model, in case similar check engine light issue happened with 2016 cars.

Car is consuming too much oil i have to put anywhere from 2 to 3 quarts of oil in car in between oil changes sometimes it acts like it has no power don't wanna go but then it just takes off my mufflers is black from the oil puffs of smoke come from my muffler sometimes there is never any oil on ground not sure where it's going but it's goin somewhere it's causing problems i have heard several other people say that their sonata is doin the same thing

Vehicle is burning to much oil over 2 quarts every 3000 miles have car serviced at dealer every 3000 miles no smoke no leaks car only has 58000 miles on it.

Cpsc: hyundai of orange park, florida did a goodwill replacement of original engine on my 2007sonata, the replacement theta engine was installed on invoice 80311 finished on 7/13/ 11 andwas directed by gm danny hines and approved by hyundai ma. *dt

Car uses 1 qt of oil every 500 miles with 117k miles on engine, no leaks.

I exited the freeway on buchanan in albany, ca and wait at the red light. As the light turned green i tried pressing on the peddle. I got no response from my car and it felt like my car was completely shut off. Quickly i put my car in park and turn my key to the off position i didn't feel my car lose any power at all it was like it was already off radio wasn't working anymore either. I turned the key to crank my car back on and it starts up immediately. I've had this same problem happen to me 3 times now twice in the same exact spot. The last time it happened my engine light turned on shortly after than it disappeared. My transmission went out in the first car i owned so i'm 1000% percent sure that wasn't the issue. I had to get the tranny on my first car replaced twice i'm very knowledgeable that stuff. My question is what can this be? i've heard about hyundai engines catching on fire. My daughter was in the car two of those times so that's pretty scary to me.

While driving to work this morning, brand new hyundai sonata with 980 miles shut down and turned itself off when i made a stop at a red light.i was lucky i wasn't moving fast on a highway when it happened and didn't get into an accident, but it's totally unacceptable for a brand new car to shut down like this.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While driving 65 mph, the safety mode indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. Also, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to exceed 60 mph and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to team hyundai (located at 22514 three notch rd, lexington park, md 20653, (301) 880-4120) where it was determined that metal shavings were found and the engine needed to be replaced. After four months of the vehicle being serviced at the dealer, the contact was informed that the wiring was changed; however, the engine was not replaced. On november 8, 2019, while driving at an unknown speed, the contact heard an abnormal noise and the safety mode indicator illuminated again. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was determined that due to the oil consumption, the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer stated that the contact needed to drive 1,000 miles and then check the oil consumption. The failure recurred on november 23, 2019. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 55,000.

The oil plug fell out and seized the engine. I bought the car and drove it lightly for 2 days through city streets and highways. Right before the engine seized. The check hybrid systems light came on, followed by the oil light, then the check engine light (within the span of around 45 seconds). After the lights the car became unresponsive to the gas pedal and slowed to a halt. After getting it towed to a hyundai dealership the next day, they called and said that te oil plug is missing and it caused the whole engine to seize and need a complete replacement. After researching i've found many owners of 2017 hyundai sonota hybrids to have had similar issues with the plug falling out. I believe it should be looked into getting recalled.

For some period of time, now, i have lost enginepower, while in motion.it happens sporadically when i cannot press the gas pedal for continuous motion forward. This has been happening on a highway as well as city streets.it pauses when i press the gas pedal and the delay is momentary. Latelywhen starting the car for the first time in the morning i hear continuous knocking until i drive for several miles, then it dissipates.

2017 hyundai sonata shut down when i came to a stop light. Started car back up and drove 5miles home. The second time it shut down were the next day , driving my car came to a complete stop and car shut down. I started cat back up drove home.

Steering- will lose control of steering as the steering wheel will lock up and become to hard to turn. This happeb while in the middle of a turn. Also while driving at 65mph. I had to kill my car and turn it back on.speed control-will take off or slow down as it wants.car changes between eco mode or sport mode and i have no knowledge of when it will do it or when it has.car will jump when in park and foot on brakes.

I bought this vehicle from a used car lot. I keep all maintenance up on this vehicle since i work as a lube maintenance technician. I noticed that the engine burns oil at a very fast rate. Not even 2000 miles into my maintenance interval the engine is dry. The oil lamp turns on. There is no leaks from the engine. I knew this was gonna be a problem to fix and i knew it would be very expensive. I just basically changed my oil more often. I was driving it from work and then it suddenly started idling rough and it started stuttering real bad. I took itto a mechanic to diagnose the problem and they told me a cylinder is blown and it could possibly need a new engine. I've only had this car for 2 years!! and i'm dealing with having to replace and engine on a 2017 hyundai sonata i have kept very well maintained. This car has only traveled in the southern california area. This problem started in yorba linda california. My vehicle is currently in shop not even touched yet because i want to know if there is possible a recall on this engine.

My 2017 sonata has been stalling for no reason. Sone time while moving and sometime while stopped like at a light. I think this is a big safety matter!i have not called a dealer i don't have a lot of money to have it looked at i just lost my job due to this covid19 crap. Not sure what to do. I just know that it is not safe and it frightens me.

The low oil indicator light does not function at all when the oil drops below normal. The engine uses an excessive amount of oil for normal uses. My vehicle goes through about 5 quarts of oil a month if not more and the vehicle is not leaking any oil at all. My vehicle has been inspected for leaking. My vehicle has stalled out at busy traffic lights, intersections and has not started due to oil issues.

My 2017 hyundai sonata with the 2.4l gdi engine only has 14,689 miles as of today 18 september 2020. It is consuming too much oil and coolant. My engine oil is about 1 1/2 quarts low, with no oil leaks. I had the oil changed at 12,600 miles. Also, coolant is at low level and i haven't driven car much since april 2020 due to covid-19 shut down. No coolant leaks anywhere around the engine, housing or inside. I cannot figure why the oil and coolant are low. My last scheduled maintenance included oil and filter change as well as top off all fluids.

I have a recall hyundai doesnt want to fix did a total of 10 oil consumption test but my car keeps burning oil also my car has also shut off in the middle of driving it. Multiple times i also found out my vehicle had a recall this year not last year they claimed that they put a device on my vehiclebut i was unaware of it

I was driving and engine started ticking then 2 seconds later oil light came on then car died

While driving on tx 1604 highway doing 70 mph my sonata jolted and lost acceleration and the engine light came on. I attempted to accelerate by putting my foot all the way down on the gas peddle, but my car did not accelerate. I had to put my emergency lights on and exit the highway to avoid being rear ended by other vehicles that maintained speed. This same scenario has occurred on 5 different occassions. Hyundai dealership(s) have given multiple diagnosis and currently doing oil consumption tests. Two of three oil consumption tests confirm that at 1,000 miles my vehicle uses 2 quarts of oil. I have been fortunate to exit the highway safely and not have an accident. My vehicle is at dealer again and waiting to hear further information on what steps the dealer will take to fix issue and safety concerns. I have all dealership documents as evidence. This issue has been ongoing since sept 2019 and it is now feb 2020. I also have written hyundai corporate and received a claim #, but they stated they could not help me since the vehicle is not with them to check and they trust their highly trained mechanics to resolve my issues.

While i was driving i had come to a stop at the stop light. When it turned green i began to make a left turn. Halfway through the turn at a few miles an hour my engine light and traction control lights came on. At the same time the engine began to rev to about 4500 rpm. It died down quickly. I then had no response from the accelerator. Luckily i was able to pull over to the side of the road as i had just entered a town. I turned off the car and attempted to restart it. It would not restart until about 15 minutes later. The shifter became locked in the parking position and even after using the shift release button i was still unable to move the vehicle. Luckily again i had just entered a town but a few miles before that i was on country roads where there was no cell phone signal at all. I would have been out of luck as well as the passenger with me. After an hour and a half of waiting the tow vehicle came and was able to get it home and then once again towed to the dealership i had bought it from. It has now been sitting there for 5 days and have been told repeatedly now that no one understands what is wrong and have had to get a specialist to come in to take a look at it. This is a car that i have only owned for 3 weeks and bought outright with only 44 miles on it. It now has maybe 350.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while merging onto a highway at 50 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated to 30 mph and shifted into limp mode. The contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had initially taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact then had the vehicle towed to a dealer where he was informed that the failure was linked to a software update. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,000.

The low oil indicator light does not function at all when the oil drops below normal. The engine uses an excessive amount of oil for normal uses. My vehicle goes through about 5 quarts of oil a month if not more and the vehicle is not leaking any oil at all. My vehicle has been inspected for leaking. There is a black shadow at the end of the regular light beam on driverside in motion when regualr driving , it goes up and down and left and right and its very very distracting. Hyundai replaced the headlight but its better but still there. Reading online other owners have the same problem.

Low beam headlights on the limited edition sonata has a dark line and 2 notches obstructing the driver's view at night.complained at the dealer, but they said it's normal and not a safety issue.meanwhile, my research on cargurus.com website shows many similar complaints.

Head/tail lamps flicker (rapidly) on/off while the light stock is in the auto mode. Occurs randomly day/night either stationary or moving. Lights do not flicker when light stock is in on mode.

I rented a 2017 hyundai sonata from enterprise in kelowna, british columbia (i am an american citizen). Driving from revelstoke to kelowna in the dark on the night of 16 january revealed the headlights to be completely inadequate. It was all i could do to see the road even driving as slow as 35 miles per hour. I believe this problem affects all sonatas, and perhaps other hyundais as well. In over half a century of driving, these were the worst headlights i have ever experienced.

Headlights(low beam) on limted model has a dark line and two notches.difficult to see properly at night.

When driving this vehicle at nigh, the headlight projection is so poor that visibility is restricted to about 40 feet in front of the vehicle. We've experienced numerous close calls due to poor headlight projection. Complaints on the internet echo our complaint.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While driving at night, the headlights failed to produce adequate lighting. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000. The vin was not available.

My head light melted and the wire harness, i started the vehicle i the morning and i had weird noise, i checked and head light was off, i opened and to find out the whole bulb socket was melted.then the break light always gets over heated and burns down , i change them almost every month.

On the 2017 hyundai sonata limited (not the base or sport models), the enclosure surrounding the light unit has a piece at the top that casts a shadow on the street that is distracting to the driver and impairs visibility.the shadow appears to look like a tab and casts a shadow on the left hand lane line that makes visibility hard and is a safety concern.we have been informed by the dealership that we took it to that ordered a replacement headlight unit that it appears to be an issue with the design that only appears to impact to the limited models of the sonata.upon further research, there are a number of other complaints that are referenced in the website https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t68982_ds813530 regarding issues with both the 2017 and 2018 models. We ask that this item is investigated for re-manufacture and a recall issued to protect all from this safety issue.i have attached a few pictures to demonstrate the distraction caused by the tab on a freeway and in a residential street as well as a close up of the headlight which you can see is casting this shadow.i have also shown a picture that is cast on the front of a house that while projected up (as we were on the upslope of a driveway), visibly shows the tab that gets dispersed while on the roads.

The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted at 844-462-5557 and stated that they were not aware of the failure. The manufacturer provided case number: 105-09466. The failure mileage was 1,700.

* taillights (brake lights) * bulbs are burning out continuously and i am afraid is going to cause a fire since they get so hot. I have replaced them on both sides at least 10 times over the last year * no * no

The headlights and brake lights are constantly blowing and not working. Just recently my light bulbs were switch in august and the driver side will only work with the high beams on and my car is available upon request for inspectionā€¦ iā€™m unable to see if i donā€™t have on the high beams and iā€™m pretty sure itā€™s blinding the other drivers. It havenā€™t been to the dealer since they were able to repair the brake light defects and there were no warning signs prior to the issue.

Car caught fire while driving on the freeway.driver had only been driving the car for about 10 to 15 minutes.got on freeway from downtown houston and was on freeway for less than 10 miles.witness said car was on fire under vehicle in the rear of the hybrid vehicle.driver pulled over to feeder of fwy and car would not go into park so he turned vehicle off and exited vehicle.driver saw car was on fire and ran to safety.

While driving on the highway, a notice was shown on the dashboard that the hybrid system and cruise control system were no longer functional. The vehicle then started to accelerate, uphill, without the gas pedal being engaged. The vehicle was taken off the highway and when coming to a near complete stop the vehicle stopped working completely. After restarting the vehicle and driving it to a safe place to park a notice indicated the breaks were no longer functional. The car was subsequently towed. The vehicle has had numerous repairs since and is still experiencing the same issue(s) as of 12/05/2019.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle shut down without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was operating as designed. The failure recurred with a loud noise and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The contact was given a loaner vehicle. The dealer diagnosed and replaced the fuel pump. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and promised to have an agent call the contact. The failure mileage was approximately 300. Updated 08/22/2017

My car won't turn on when i turn the ignition key. It stays silent no click or anything indicating its trying to turn on. The vehicle is always stationary when this happens. It randomly does this and rarely it turns on when i turn the ignition.

My 2017 sonata has stalled while idling in drive.the car completely stopped at a red light; rpms dropped and it stopped.prior to this happening, i had complained to my local dealer that when idling, it has dropped in rpms and felt like it wanted to cut off but did not...until today.at that visit, i had the fuel system serviced, as they thought that maybe this would help.that was approximately 2 weeks ago and now it has completely stopped at a light.i am taking the car back in as i am not certain what else it could be...maybe mass flow sensor?i have seen where the 2018 sonata had a recall regarding hesitation/stalling issues and now i am wondering if the 2017 has issues as well.i am afraid to drive it in heavy traffic as now it may cut off on me and not start up again.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number 21v619000 (latches/locks/linkages) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the failure and the trunk could not be opened as stated in the recall. The failure mileage was 53,394. Parts distribution disconnect.

The trunk will not open by any means and the emergency release does not work. If anyone gets in the trunk, they cannot get out especially with the hybrids which do not have fold down back seatsfederal mandate states the trunk must have an operational emergency release, but with the trunk latch issue, the emergency release does not work

The trunk will not open by any means, the button inside, the key fob, the mechanical key, the smart trunk open feature. Mine is thehybrid and does not have fold down back seats.so there is no way to open it from inside or outside only via the inside of the trunk. It just has28,045 miles.i called the dealer bob king hyundai and they did not know if it is under warranty and it will cost $130 just to look at it?

Trunk latch failed. Trunk would not open, even when used emergency trunk release. Eventually, latch broke and trunk would not close. Two potential safety issues: 1. Emergency trunk release would not work, negating ability for someone trapped in trunk to open it; 2. Exhaust fumes entering cabin through open trunk.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While driving 65 mph, the contact noticed the gear would shift into second, third, fourth, and back into first gear without warning. The vehicle was taken to all star hyundai (3950 century ct, pittsburg, ca 94565, (925) 778-7878) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The dealer updated the software for the transmission, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 26,900.

My vehicle is under 70,000 miles. I was informed by the dealer service department it needs a new transmission. The transmission is not shifting properly and has caused the vehicle to stall on the road on a couple of occasions. The vehicle is making a grinding/clicking noise when it shifts. The dealer is not honoring the power train warranty from the manufacturer.

When starting car, it starts shaking real hard then cuts off. It doesn't at times.

I received a recall notice in the mail on 06/27/19 stating that i needed to bring my car in to have the computer updated to protect the engine from excessive connecting rod bearing damage.i went in to have the service done on 7/1/19.when i came to pick it up the representative told me that the update may or may not have resolved the issue and that my car at any time in the future could go into what they called safe mode.he explained what that was and i truly did not want to take the car home.i no longer felt safe driving it.i contacted customer care by phone, corporate by email and have been told the same thing over and over again.they can only do something if the car malfunctions.i had scheduled a trip to montgomery the day after i had taken my car in to take my 80+ year old parents to see my sisters new home.i ended up having to rent a car because i did not want to take the chance on ending up stranded on the side of the road with my parents.there is apparently a harness that they can put on if the car malfunctions and i do not understand why they do not just do that if there is a possible problem that could occur.i no longer feel safe in my vehicle and feel that i will have to rent a car every time i have to travel.i feel totally helpless in this situation.

Car gives warning message to "immediately shut off the car to prevent damage ".... This has happened numerous times and hyundai doesn't seem to have a fix, and doesn't think its a safety issue.this is a safety issue particularly when you are in heavy traffic with no place to move over to shut off the car.

My vehicle was in park on my street.my husband was in the passenger seat.i exited the driver side of the vehicle and opened the driver side rear door.i kneeled on the seat to reach behind the passenger side seat to grab my laundry basket.the car began to roll backwards.we hit a vehicle directlybehind us and ended up in our neighbors yard.we contacted the police and a tow truck was sent.the tow truck arrived from joyce's towing on mt. Nebo road in pittsburgh pa.the tow truck driver noticed that while the car was in park the wheels were spinning.the body shop in which we took our vehicle to, is having an issue trying to duplicate the problem. In the meantime, i do not feel that our vehicle is safe, and do not want to risk this incident happening again, being that it was an issue in 2011-2014 hyundai sonatas.

Driving to work vehicle lost power in parking garage, during busiest time and lot of traffic in garage.car felt like it was coasting, pressing the gas pedal and nothing, then floored the pedal and it revved up enough to get me up the ramp into a parking spot.engine warning light came on.thankfully this didn't happen on the freeway. Towed to dealership, they don't know what is wrong, the car is still in the shop.

My car won't turn on when i turn the ignition key. It stays silent no click or anything indicating its trying to turn on. The vehicle is always stationary when this happens. It randomly does this and rarely it turns on when i turn the ignition.

After transmission was replace in december 2020, noticed starting in jan 2021, that vehicle did not stay in park and rolled back up to 5 feet from where parked.pictures from parking lot, 3/6/2021 rolled back 5 feet from where it parked.mileage on 3/6/21 was 96858.on 4/15/21 we have video with the noise that it is making when in park and rolls back (unable to attach here).mileage on 4/15/2021 was97881.car was parked in a handicap spot at a restaurant.the amount of rollback could cause someone walking behind the vehicle to be crushed or killed.the consumer stated the failure occurred on numerous occasions, not only on an incline. The dealer was unable to replicate the failure; therfore, the dealer was unable to repair the vehicle.

If the vehicle is left in drive and turned off it will roll backwards. I got out of the driver seal and the wife was in the passenger seat and turned the vehicle before she got because she was on the phone.the vehiclerolled in the road way, thankfully nothing happened to anybody. According to the dealership the newer models do not do this.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While driving various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated while making a left turn. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to gerald hyundai of north aurora (209 hansen blvd, north aurora, il 60542, (877) 781-4106) and napleton's valley hyundai (4333 ogden ave, aurora, il 60504, (630) 851-2500) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 15823638. The contact was referred to the local dealer. The failure mileage was 15,494.consumer stated this problem happens about every other month. Car feels like its going to stall at the red light when you pusjh on gas pedal. Noes not go for a few seconds. Car starts every time and runs otherwise.

Minor vibration on front end axle during initial acceleration started early during ownership, but increased over time with mileage and usage. Took into dealership where purchased for diagnosis, but could not isolate cause. Problem worsened over next couple of weeks, so took it back in to same dealership. Finally diagnosed the problem to be a missing circlip ("c" clip) that holds the cv axle in the transmission case. Without it, the axle itself was working its way out of the transmission case, and vibrating because of its looseness. Researched the problem and found that full separation of the axle from the transmission could result in uncontrolled behavior of car, and inevitable accident or worse. This was a manufacturing/assembly error, and could be a systemic problem in the assembly process. The repair was performed by the dealership under warranty, but this could present a dangerous risk to other 2017 sonata purchasers, so i write this complaint as both a civic right and a responsible citizen.when discussing this issue with a hyundai representative, i was told in blunt and no uncertain terms that the problem was resolved and there was no further action or discussion that was necessary. Our prior 2011 hyundai's engine had seized at highway speed, and my wife lost all power steering and braking. Despite safety issues with both 2011 and 2017 sonatas, there was no acknowledgement nor admission of accountability. I would like to be reassured that this axle circlip problem is acknowledged and rectified, as the greater safety of sonata owners may be at risk. We personally now feel unsafe in the sonata model, and only purchased a second one under the assumption that lightning doesn't strike twice... This is not so...

Issue #1 brakes making a wierd squalling sound when we apply the brakes at various times driving . Webrought our 2017 sonata hybrid numerous times without any fix! serious safety issue !issue #2 wei brought our 2017 hyundai sonata with only 14,000 miles to service dept. At hyundai to inspect tires & brakes & oil change before leaving on our long trip to miami . Everything checked out ok ! we drove 2/3 of way on i-75 highway & only stopped once for gas . We noticed a thumping sound & our car started "pulling to the right". We thought it was a flat tire & stopped at the next rest area to inspect tires for proper psi inflation...all tires checked out ok?? there was no "warning lights on " so we got back onto i-75 & we really got nervous as the shaking really got worse as we drove on. We slowed down to 40 mph. With flashers on. We called roadside assistance for directions to nearest hyundai dealership. We slowly made it to rick case hyundai who inspected our car & were "shockingly told that the (2) right side tires experienced "belt seperations " & they had to be replaced immediately with a new wheel alignment (over $ 500). Tech said ! wow that looks like two manufacturer defective tires! we carried 2 tires back tto our local hyundai service dept in npr & will try to get reimbursed by hankook ! this is a "serious safety issue " with these tires as we have read all the complaints about these model tires. We would like to replace the other (2) tires that are still on vehicle with these major safety issues ! my wife & i dont feel safe with the tires & brakes concerns !

The sensors for braking did not work. I had an accident where i rear ended a truck.the brakes didn't work, only slid into the back of the truck. I was on a busy street when an emergency vehicle turned on sirens at the lastsecond.the truck stopped as it should have. I braked as hard as possible but the car kept going until it collided into the truck.i have read reports on the 2017 sonata which states the car will stop when it senses imminent danger. This one didn't. My concern is- is there more cars like this one out there that don't work as it should.i purchased this car 02/2017. Had only 23 miles. I took my car in for servicing the day before and was told there was a recall on the car.i never received a notice of recall and still haven't.supossedly that was taken care of. The invoice shows the recall was for altn screw. It shows it was for santa fe spt/sonata.

My car is a 2017 sonata se 2.4l just shy of 21k miles. I use the parking brake all the time and yesterday when i got home and depressed the parking brake pedal it went all the way to the floor - no more working parking brake!on the floor i found a small locknut and a washer that fell off the threaded end of the cable at the parking brake pedal. I repaired it myself by adding a second regular m6 nut (10mm wrench) and locked the two nuts together.adding the second nut and locking them together should permanently fix the issue.

Back brakelight bulb has been changed 10 timesthey go out repeatedly from side to side

On 10-15-17 i had an incident of an unintended acceleration as i was turning into my driveway. The car made a loud vroom noise and i tried to brake and the brakes failed me and i put the car into park and it still moved where it hit my garage door. I have tire marks all over my driveway from this incident. I was driving a hyundai sonata sport and the dealership or corporate does not want to take back the car or do anything for me because they claim nothing is wrong with the vehicle but i know that is not true.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While pulling into the driveway, the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into the garage. There were no injuries. While driving the vehicle on a city street, i attempted to make a right turn and experienced great difficulty in turning the steering wheel. I then started a left turn and experienced the same. I immediately drove the vehicle home. I feel that it would be very dangerous to continue driving this vehicle. This should be investigated immediately!

My car steering got locked when i was driving and make the turn. The steering warning sign and the traction light pop up in the dash board. The car steering wheel use to get off sync.

I purchased brand new hyundai sonata 2017 se.it took me severals days to realize that the car is wandering on the highway, it's not me. It's impossible to keep the car driving straight. It's more apparent at speeds over 50mph. At 70mph you must pay 100% attention to the steering wheel and continue to work it like a mad man; otherwise you'll end up in the ditch in seconds.it's a high severity safety defect that needs immediate, nationwide recall. If you are considering sonata 2017', learn from my mistakes and buy something else. Do not risk your life and life of your family in this piece of korean garbage.yes, i have taken it to the dealer ( gerald hyundai north aurora, illinois ). In short, i have demonstrated the issue i'm having on the highway, the technician saw it and felt the car pulling, he saw the car wander from side to side and he saw that i had to correct the direction car is driving every few seconds. Later we swapped places, he drove the car and gave me feedback " it's ok, that's how sonatas drive. You either love it or hate it. Try sport mode, the steering wheel is stiffer, i like it better, the car is not pulling that much in sport mode"after returning to the service department, i've was ( as expected ) told that the issue cannot be duplicated and car is operating as it was designed. ---- basically gtfo mr. Customer! ----if you are smart, just dismiss the idea of buying hyundai sonata 2017 se model ( not sure about sport or limited ). Other than life threating defect with steering, i love everything else in this car. Still, i'm taking a huge financial hit to trade it in before i make the first payment. I don't want to have an accident and my life and health is more important than few grand. I don't want to waste time to keep playing games with dealerships and keep myself stressed.

Second complaint, this problem, this vehicle.when entering busy roadway from shopping center (9/13/2017), at speed of ca. 10 mph, power steering ceased working.was able to wrestle vehicle to roadway shoulder.vehicle taken to dealer (delray hyundai, delray beach, florida) as was done following first complaint.dealer unable to accept vehicle until at least next week despite driver safety concern protests.

There have been several instances when i have been driving and steering would make a clicking not and then it would get tight and the steering light would come along with serial other lights and i would have to turn my car off and then turn it back. Luckily i was driving at a low speed. I have taken my care to the hyundai dealership and they were not able repair it because they could not repeat the problem i was told take the next time it occurred. As of yesterday 11/25/2020 my steering my car to the left has become extremely difficult.

The power steering on 2017 hyundai sonata's will randomly stop working while i am driving.it started as an every month occurrence and now has become more than weekly occurrence.the steering locks up and two light indicators illuminate on the dashboard.these two lights are not on prior to the random power steering failure.my family's safety is at risk every time this occurs as are those on the road near my vehicle.i purchased this vehicle from my 88 year old grandmother.this extreme safety problem would have killed her had it happened when she was driving. I have taken the vehicle to a local dealership who seemed to be aware of the notorious problem on 2017 sonata's but they explained that they are unable to reproduce the failure in their shop, so they are unable to fix the problem.

In parking lot my steering seized up. The power steering light and traction control lights came on. Then i shut car off and restarted it. Then power steering was back and indicator light were gone some time i have to leave my car park long to fix it automatically.

Car started this at approximately 10,000 miles. It "wanders" on the road, at highway speeds. The steering wheel feels like it "sticks" at speed in the center position and it takes considerable force to turn the wheel from center. This causes overcorrection in the steering and you tend to go back and forth. Single-handed cruising is definitely out of the equation, as it requires a two-handed tight grip for even tiny adjustments. My wife hates it and it is upsetting to happen in a new car. Did not do this when new and does it in all modes (normal, eco, sport).

4 times over past 10 months (3 in past 2 weeks) the power steering went out when the car was left in the sun longer than an hour.the 1st 3 times the dashboard warning lights re-set themselves and the power steering started working again after turning off the car after being forced to drive home the car w/o power steering.the last time the lights stayed on and the power steering remained inoperable.for the second time in 10 months, i had to have the car towed to the dealer - this time they are replacing the steering column and the power steering unit.i thought that i had simply bought a "lemon" - i had to have the transmission replaced less than a week after i bought the car but after looking up my make and model on carcomplaints.com i realized that many other sonatas besides mine have lost power steering, many of them while driving (some at highway speeds).besides brakes, steering is probably the biggest safety issue on any car.hyundai has a really good warranty and i bought a more comprehensive warranty so my repairs should not cost me anything but the fact remains, this model sonata has a significant safety defect that needs to be addressed by hyundai before someone gets killed, if it has not happened already.i feel fortunate that my power steering never went out while i was driving the car like many others did.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While driving 45 mph, the steering seized and the power steering assist warning indicator illuminated. The contact managed to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was towed by aaa to penske hyundai (8850 grossmont blvd, la mesa, ca 91942, (619) 464-1440) to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

Power steering failure on 07/27/2021 as reported in complaint number 11427000. It took until 08/24/2021 to have the vehicle checked at ricart automotive in columbus ohio. The problem could not be duplicated at the dealer and no error codes were found.the car is not considered safe to drive by the owner, since i do not know when or under what conditions the power steering will malfunction again.28000 miles, original owner.

I was driving and my steering wheel randomnly locks up. Pulling my car in different lanes. I read so many of the same complaints. Y'all need to do something about this.*dt

Purchased our 2017 sonata.while driving for no apparent reason i lose power steering and can barely turn the wheel. I have to pull over with great struggle and turn the car off then restart it to be able to get power steering back. The light for power steering illuminates on the display panel and then disappears after i re-start it. Along with the traction control at times, but often just the power steering fails. Happens usually at speeds around 10-30 miles per hour.they have had multiple recalls in the past years for the same problem. Even other models and same year.https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a15348048/hyundai-recalls-173000-sonatas-for-power-steering-failure/

While driving the 2017 hyundai sonata at speeds of 60 plus mph the steering wheel locks up and the power steering light comes on along with the traction control lights. This incident has even caused damage to the right front corner of my hyundai due to losing steering causing me to veer in to the guard rails.

Steering locks up while driving.steering makes a clunky noise and vibration when turning to the left.steering warning light and traction controllight comes on and goes off intermittently.took it to dealership and they couldn't duplicate the issue.

Was driving on a busy road. Turned the corner and went to accelerate and once i hit 45 my steering locked up, couldn't turn or adjust my vehicle at all. I had my 3 kids in the car and was lucky we could get to the side of the road. Shut off the car and started it up and seemed fine. Then later that day i was driving on highway going 65 and my steering locked up and i couldn't drive. Lucky it was early morning and no traffic because i was able to get to the side of the road. This needs to be recalled before someone loses their life!

Problem: steering sticks at center position. It takes extra force to move it either right or left from center position when making small steering corrections. This occurred when highway driving at 65 mph. After about 60 miles problem ended. I am concerned problem will reoccur and be worst.

I had just left my house and had stopped to turn on main road. My steering wheel jerked a little and then when i went to turn it was extremely hard to turn. I pulled over to let my husband try and he had a hard time. The steering wheel light and an exclamation point came on and the traction lights came on but it was not even raining. We took the car to the dealership and they said it was a sensor in the steering column. It would cost $2000.00 to repair it. My car only has 67500 miles on it. They said the 100000 mile power/tran warranty does not cover the steering column... I search online about steering issues with the sonata and it seems very common. The 2015 models have a recall fir this issue. Had i been on a very busy street this could have been extremely dangerous because i could not control the steering of my car at all. I called the hyundai corporation and they said sorry there has to be a class action lawsuit with hundreds of names for a recall to be issued. They said to keep my records and if the model is recalled then they will reimburse me. We are in a pandemic and i donā€™t have the extra 2000 lying around to spend on a manufacturing safety error.

On three separate occasions, each while driving a very low speed (at or about 10 mph), the power steering failed.one incident was in supermarket parking lot, the other two incidents on a public road within a corporate park. Vehicle was taken to delray beach, florida, hyundai dealer, but the dealer was unable to identify the cause of the failure.vehicle was kept by dealer two days, driven by qualified service personnel at various speeds, but replication of driver complaint not experienced.

Just after beginning my drive home, on a suburban street, warning light for power steering came on and within about 1/4 mile the power steering failed and the steering wheel seized up.i was fortunate to be just able to turn on onto a side street as i could no longer control the car.car was a rental car and only had 37k miles on it.

I was leaving work, placed the car in reverse, than drive and the the steering wheel locked up on me. I was able to get the car back into a parking spot with much difficulty.the eps light was lit along with another warning symbol.i was very lucky i was only in a parking lot and not on the road.when i spoke with the hyundai dealership they acted like this was not a problem.upon researching this site i see otherwise .there needs to be a recall, this is not a safe car to drive, some people have had multiple issues with the eps system .this car is not safe.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While backing out of a driveway, the power steering assist warning indicator illuminated and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. When the vehicle was turned off and restarted, the failure ceased. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. Grayson hyundai (located at 8729 kingston pike, knoxville, tn 37923, (865) 693-4550) was contacted and an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 16,000. The vin was unknown.

The power steering and traction control will go out in this vehicle while driving at highways speeds. I have now had 5 instances where this has happened. This is a very well known issue with the 2017 sonata and this needs to be recalled!!

On two occasions my steering wheel locked up completely. Fortunately at the times i was only maneuvering my car at low speeds and i was able to stop the car in time.i was only able to regain steering after shutting off the engine and restarting. Both times the lockups occurred immediately following a ā€œhard overā€¯ steering wherein the steering wheel was held against a stop. I.e.,the wheel could turn no further. After rebooting the startup, the steering returned to normal.iā€™m a little reluctant to try this maneuver again but iā€™m sure that the lockup could be repeated.

Takata recall " just purchased this vehicle june 19 2018 with only 44,000 now its. January and already having problems with the steering wheel it locked up on me on the highway & almost cause wreck " steering been locking up and just comletely stop turning" they say it' need steering wheel column part but the steering wheel been doing that sense i purchased it

This is the fourth time i've experienced this while operating my vehicle. On september 12 , 2020 while operating my vehicle on a city street my steering light popped on along with my traction control light. My steering wheel immediate locked up and i had no control . I struggled to veer the vehicle into a gas station. Upon pulling into the gas station i turned my vehicle off and started it back up and the steering light and traction control light was off so i preceded to drive.

This morning while leaving for work on a city street, my steering wheel locked, and the steering indicator light along with the traction control light came on. At the time, i was driving approximately 15 mph, and i was in the process of turning. After reviewing similar instances online, it is apparent that this is a common issue with these vehicles. This is extremely dangerous, and could be deadly. It's unacceptable that a recall has not been issued. I called hyundai customer service, and was advised that since the vehicle is out of warranty my only option is to bring it to the dealer and pay for an inspection and repairs myself. This is a manufactures safety issue, and it needs a recall. I called the dealer and was advised that i can bring the car in and pay for an inspection, but they would probably need to duplicate the problem. Why has nothing been done about this?? is hyundai waiting for people to be severely injured or even killed?

2017 hyundai sonata electronic power steering failed while i was making a turn on 7/25.once the vehicle is turned off and back on it works.i notice that there is a pop like a potential gear or internal part is broken when turning the steering wheel from left to right and vise versa.it has sense happened everyday following the first event.this seems to be a complaint made by several people and i see no recall as of yet.hyundai has addressed older vehicles with the same problem and issued a recall but nothing as of yet for 2017 or newer.had this happened while i was on the interstate or making a sharp turn on a mountain road, as i typically do, it could have forced me into the next car, wall, or even off of a mountain side.

Takata recall. Pulling onto highway turning left red steering wheel warning light and traction hazard light came on and immediately steering locked up and unable to make turn

Purchased our 2017 sonata sport in december of 2016. In july i had my first power steering issue. While driving for no apparent reason i lose power steering and can barely turn the wheel. I have to pull over with great struggle and turn the car off then restart it to be able to get power steering back. The light for power steering illuminates on the display panel and then disappears after i re-start it. Along with the traction control at times, but often just the power steering fails. Happens usually at speeds around 20-30 miles per hour. Once going 40. Service department at dealership stated they can't duplicate the issue and gave the car back to me. Continues to be an issue. Also had to have the display panel replaced because only one half would illuminate. The display panel failed after only having the car 1 month. Took over 3 months for the part to come in so they could fix it.

Within my 2 months of owning owning this 2017 hyundai sonata, my steering wheel has locked up at least 7 times. A few of those times i was on the highway and had to pull off to the side with little to no control of the steering wheel. The power steering and traction control lights came on and i could not regain control until i turned the car off and on again. I was terrified every single time. This last time i nearly lost my life because the steering wheel once again locked up on the highway and vehicles around me had to jam on brakes causing a scary back up on the highway. I'm seeing far too many of the same exact complaints with this model for there to still not be a recall. Someone could be seriously hurt or worse and i'm sure hyundai is aware of this. I'm not sure what to do to fix my car so it's drivable again but this is unacceptable.

Backed out of my carport and the streering went out. I wrestled hard to turn the steering wheel and could finally steer the car back into my carport. This was the second time it happened. The first time the dealer could not repeat the problem, so i had to keep driving the car. The second time they fixed it by removing bad steering column, shaft, and totque sensor and installing those new parts. Paperwork says torque sensor is defective. It had internal electrical open circuit. I was moving very slowly, backing out of carport onto a street that does not have any through traffic and just runs in front of our villa's where we pull into our carports. I have read online where it has happened to other people and they had to keep driving the car and that is just too dangerous, just because they could not get it to do it for the dealer.

The power steering has gone out on my vehicle twice in 2 months.the first time, i was driving down a city street and had just turned right into a parking lot. As i turned the steering wheel to park, the power steering went out. It was scary; it took a lot of turning of the steering wheel to safely maneuver out of the way of the parking lot traffic. The second time, i had just left my house to take my vehicle in for its 15,000 mile service.less than 3 minutes away from my house, as i was making a right turn on a city street, the power steering went out. It was hard to maneuver the car out of traffic, but i was able to do so.in both instances, i heard clicking noises prior to the power steering going out. The first time the power steering went out, i heard a clicking noise as i was turning into the parking lot. The second time the power steering went out, i heard clicking noises as i was backing out of my driveway. My car sat in my driveway with me driving it only twice between the first and second incidence of the power steering going out. I only drove it the second time to get the 15,000 mile service and to see if the dealership could fix the problem. I ended up having the vehicle towed to the dealership. I am afraid to drive my car. So far, the dealership says it is unable to determine the cause of the problem because they can't replicate it.

3 times after stopping at a stop sign, power steering failed when accelerating (0-10 mph). Turned car off then on, steering was fine. Dealership could not find a code set or reproduce problem.

Was driving and the steering got very tight making it hard to even slightly turn vehicle luckily i was driving at a very low speed and could adjust. Red light with exclamation point and steering wheel showed when it happened

Steering becomes free when driving.

Vehicle in motion and steering all but locks up - very difficult to control steering wheel.once turned off it was ok only to happen again a few days later.i travel minimum 48 miles round trip per day (weekdays) to work

I was driving on the freeway when suddenly my steering wheel locked up. I was unable to switch lanes or merge off the freeway. This has happened about 2 more times since the first incident and hyundai says they are unable to duplicate the problem. They also will not give me a loaner car until they can resolve the issue. Until then i guess i will continue to drive my unsafe vehicle and hope something does not happen.

My steering keeps locking up while i am driving down the road. I have to stop my car, put it in park and turn my car off. Then restart my car in order for it to unlock. I have almost cause some wrecks. My car is not that old to be having this issue. When i went on youtube to see what i can do to fix it, i found out this is a common problem.

On numerous occasions, the steering wheel feels loose after starting but then begins to work normally. On 7/27/2021, as i was backing out of the driveway, there was excessive steering wheel motion where the wheels did not turn at all even though the steering wheel was turned in each direction about 10 degrees. Then the power steering completely stopped working at all, and i had to steer the car to the curb with extreme effort since the power assist was completely gone.several dash warning lights were illuminated including the traction control light. After turning the car off, and then back on, the steering was back to normal. I have continued driving the car for the last three days and the problem has not recurred.but i am very nervous about the safety aspect of this and don't enjoy driving the car anymore. I am the original owner of the car and it only has about 28000 miles on it.

At interstate speeds the steering wheel sticks at the center position.when it unsticks the vehicle wanders to the left or right so you tend to wander back and forth to go straight.

After start car, power steering warning lights on. Did not realized until backing up from parking lot. Steering lost power and very hard to manage. After 1-2 min of try to park again manually, steering back to normal. It happens 2 times within 3 weeks.

After driving my newly purchased 2017 hyundai sonata, for any length of time or mileage, the power steering will make a clunk sound and then will stop working when slowing down and reaching a speed of around 10mph and then when i regain speed i am still struggling to turn the wheel because i've lost the power steering. I did discover that once the ignition is turned off and restarted that the power steering works again. However, when driving on a freeway or road, pulling over to restart the vehicle is not always an option and with the steering wheel so hard to control, the potential for accident avoidance is lowered. And winter weather conditions will make driving with this manual steering situation that much more dangerous. It seems thehyundai elantra is having the same issue and a recall has already been issued.

My steering wheel has locked while driving twice in 2 months.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 5 mph, the power steering suddenly failed. The contact towed the vehicle to the raciae hyundai dealer, but they were unable to identify the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,800.

As i was driving yesterday. A steering wheel light which an explanation point next to it popped up and then as soon as it did my steering wheel got hard and would not turn. Thankfully i was on a small road and able to drive off to the side safely or else who knows i could of been on a bridge and flew off due to not being able to turn the steering wheel at all! i would hope this could be fixed as a recall seeming as it has happened to many people.

I had just left my house and was just a few miles down the road turning onto the main highway. The steering wheel jerked and then the steering wheel locked up like it had no power steering and i could not turn the wheel. Three lights came on on the dashboard, an exclamation point, a steering wheel and the traction lights all came on. It was a sunny day and there was no rain the pavement was not slick. I had to pull over on the side of the road and let my husband drive my vehicle. We had to take it in to the dealership and they said it was a sensor in the steering column and the entire steering column would have to be replaced at a cost if $2000.00. This is not a driver error this is a manufacturer error and it is not covered under any warranty. My car only has 67,500 miles on it and this should be recalled for the 2017 hyundai sonataā€˜s. After researching online about steering issues with the hyundai sonataā€™s i discovered that the 2015 hyundai sonataā€™s have been recalled for the steering and so have the hyundai elantraā€™s.i called the hyundai corporation and they said that there had to be a class action lawsuit for the 2017 models to get a recall. This could have been extremely dangerous had i beenon a busier street. Hyundai needs to step up and recall this.

I was driving this morning, and my 2017 hyundai was maneuvering as if there were too much power steering fluid. With every lane change, it was as if i was going to crash. About 4 hours later, i went to grab my son and same thing. Car moving very easily. Turning could be done with my pinky. As i was turning into my street, all of a sudden it's as if something was holding my car back. The power steering went out. Thank god i was right by the house. Red steering wheel and exclaimation point notification appeared on my dashboard.

I asked the dealership to check steering they said couldn't find anything i drove to fl and while there i was making a turn steering went out. Took to dealership they said it's covered to replace at 60,000 miles but not at 76000 miles under warranty. I explained i asked them to check it at 40,000 miles and they said nothing wrong. They said sorry nothing we can do and handed me 2500 estimate. We eill be getting rid of the car and i will never own a hyundai again

Power steering locks up or stops, when car is moving or when parking,i have to shut the car off to restore steering.this problem has nearly cause 3 accidents, the hyundia dealer had the car in shop 2 times and said they can't duplicate the problem so the can't fix. I know many other owners have had the same problem. This problem happened on the hwy's and in town driving.

As i was backing into a parking space, the steering wheel locked up, i couldn't turn the steering wheel in either direction and the steering wheel light with the exclamation mark came on.

While driving my vehicle, the steering wheel will lock up and tug the vehicle to the side, the wheel will shove aggressivelyback in the opposite direction. This is also happening when i first turn my vehicle on the wheel locks and warning lights for my steering will come on. The vehicle is very unsafe to drive due to not knowing when this will happen. It has happened around 5-6times in the last week.

I was pulling out of a gas station on mohegan sun blvd in uncasville, ct and the steering wheel locked up and the symbol of a steering wheel and an exclamation point appeared plus the skid symbol on my dashboard. I was in a dangerous spot and the security people stopped to help. We tried restarting the car and the same thing happened. This time the steering wheel just spun around and around but i couldn't move the car. I called aaa and had the car towed to the key hyundai dealership in milford ct 66 miles away from the scene. I had to call my son in fairfield to come to get me as the covid-19 virus situation didn't allow for me to ride with the tow truck driver. I will be forever nervous about driving this car now. I see it has happened to others.i was turning into the highway from the gas station when the wheel suddenly locked up and had a mind of its own. I am lucky no one was driving by at the time. My car is presently at key hyundai waiting to be serviced. So far, i don't know what condition its in.

On 01/16/2020 as i was leaving work parking lot my steering seized up. The power steering light and traction control lights came on. It took about 1 minute to get steering wheel to move at all, managed to get back in parking lot (barely) and shut car off and restarted it. My power steering was back and indicator light were gone. I'm going to dealership tomorrow. ( will update) had this happened at a normal speed for diving, it would have been very dangerous! now, i am afraid to drive my only car.

My steering locked up as i was driving. I was making a left hand turn and it would barely turn. As i straightened the steering wheel it was still extremely difficult to turn. I managed to get it pulled in to the gas station and turned off the motor to pump my gas. It did fine after i cranked it back up.

After 1.5 years and 15,000 miles, the latch of the trunk door went broken and the trunk cannot be opened in any way. I took it to the dealer to replace the trunk last. I was told this is a common issue on these vehicles due to the fact that hyundai uses plastic instead of metal latch.

I have a 2017 sonata with 93000 miles, the paint on the roof, directly above the windshield has started to peel off all the way to bare metal. At first it was about one inch chips that were peeling away. Recently after a hard rain a large chunk of paint came off. I have seen other sonatas with the same problem. All of the cars that i've seen with this problem are white in color.

Paint is peeling off in large sheets above front windshield. It happened during highway travel at speed of 65-70 mph.no dents or scratches were visible prior to peeling paint.this will compromise the integrity of the body of the car due to rust and corrosion.

Trunk will not open, with dash button, trunk button, or key.stationay with $173 perishible groceries inside, will be oderious by the time it gets to a shop.parked in garage.

While driving to work on 2.8.2019, my sunroof violently exploded.i was on interstate 10 in phoenix, az at approximately 5:40 am.no vehicles were in front or beside me.the exterior temperature was below 40 degrees, the heater was on in the car.while driving at approximately 67 miles per hour, down a straight stretch of the highway, i heard a loud bang.the car did not swerve.inside the car i could now hear more road noise.i opened the sunroof shade enough to slip my fingers through and felt cold air and broken glass.

The trunk will not open!!!

The truck release on my 2017 hyundai sonata would not operate. In checking the release mechanism, i discovered a plastic part in the trunk release mechanismhad broken. The reason for this complaint is that this broken part does not allow the trunk to open manually from the inside of the trunk. If a child of adult person was accidentally or purposely put in the trunk, they would not be able to escape. Attached are a couple photos showing the trunk release mechanism with the yellow manual safety release and a photo showing the broken plastic part. This is a safety issue and consumers should not be force to pay to have this part replaced by the car manufacturer.

Paint begins to flake and chip off after commute or small infracture on body of car. The paint can completelt come off with just 1 peel. They didnt let the paint set all the way when coming out of production.

While driving on interstate 70 in ohio my sharkfin blew off. I was going around 75 mph. No vehicle was in front of me. I heard a very loud noise which lasted a few seconds. Within 10 miles i stopped my car a service station and discovered my plastic shark fin cover had blown off. Nothing hit the car. No blood, no scratches. When i reported it to the dealership they said i must have taken it through a car wash. I have had 3 sonatas and have never taken one through a car wash. When i first got to the dealership the receptionist at the service dept. Said they had been having problems with that part, but the service manager tried denying it. I have been talking to other sonata owners and some have experience a similar problem.when i reported it to hyundai they failed to take action. The photos will show that the very small screws in the electrical component that attach to the plastic shark fin cover have very little penetration into the shark fin cover. Incident happened on may 9, 2019, reported it on may 10.i ended up paying $353.03 for the part and installation. I am suggesting that the wind at 75 mph lifted the plastic cover because it sounded like a ripping sound like one screw at a time. Not only did it cause me to take my eyes of the road, but the part flying back could have posed a serious safety to another driver driving behind me. And like i mentioned this has happened to other owners. I believe it is a design failure.

The paint is peeling in the front of car.it has 22,793 miles

The trunk was hard to open at first, then it would not open and all of a sudden it would not close. It has to be tied down to stay shut. It came open by itself while driving. Had to have the latch replaced.

I purchased this vehicle (2017 hyundai sonata) on 9/2/20 used. I had previously test drove another vehicle of the same year/make/model.the antenna fin (cover on top of the car) was missing on both vehicles, so it's not just mine. There is a factory warranty still on the car, so i went ahead and purchased it, with the false assumption that replacing the fin would be covered by warranty.after purchase, hyundai has refused to replace this part under warranty, even though hyundai tsb 16-01-051 addresses the exact issue.this is a safety issue because if these fins are coming off with the slightest force, they could easily fall off at highway speeds or bad weather, causing danger to other drivers who might be in the path of the dislodged antenna fin.based on online forums, there is a newer designed fin that could easily be replaced on these vehicles if it was subject to a recall.photo and tsb are attached.

I went to open the passenger door on the drivers side & the door handle snapped right off.

I was driving on the interstate when i heard a long noise that sounded like a gunshot.i then heard a noise coming from the area of the sunroof like broken glass.i had the cover closed.had i not had it closed, glass would have been falling in all around us.i pulled over to look at it and it looked a bomb had exploded.some pieces were still attached but shattered and others were everywhere.

While driving the 2017 hyundai sonata at speeds of 60 plus mph the steering wheel locks up and the power steering light comes on along with the traction control lights. This incident has even caused damage to the right front corner of my hyundai due to losing steering causing me to veer in to the guard rails.

The trunk will not open by any means, at times it can be opened, but the emergency release does not work. If anyone gets in, they cannot get out, especially with the hybrids which do not have fold down back seats. Federal mandate states the trunk must have an operational emergency release, but with the trunk latch issue, the emergency release does not work.

Trunk will not open, with dash button, trunk button, or key.stationay with $173 perishible groceries inside, will be oderious by the time it gets to a shop.parked in garage.

Driving to work when i heard a rattling noise and engine light came on & off, then i smelled and saw smoke, so immediately pulled out of the freeway to the nearest exit luckily a parking lot before the car burst into flames.

Trunk won't open using key fob or dash. Can't close it manually with key. The trunk latch mechanism is not working.

Trunk latch works intermittently...only 3 year old car...i have called the dealership for repair...they have not or will not call back. Latch works sometimes...but other times will not open or other times will not stay shut.

My trunk latch mecanisum broke and it was troubling to think that my purse or luggage was in it or i could not get to my meds or a spare tire in the event it was needed. There is no way to get into the locked trunk accept to take the entire back seat out unlike most cars where you can pull a latch on the back of the rear seat and bring the seat down. I have what is called the "smart trunk" that opens without the use of a key if you are standing in front of it. I had to put out just under $500.00 to get into the trunk and repair the latch. I do hope that you can do a safety recall on the latch soon. This happened to me and i was not at home and i had to wait to get an appointment at the dealership to get it repaired.

I brought this in oct 6, 2017 at win hyundai in carson. A couple week later, i am having tire pressure problems. The tires is sliding on the freeway and the street. The tire pressure keeps going up and down everyday. I brought this car to the dealership twice, and they said that nothing is wrong but something is wrong with the tires. Last night, when i pull into a driveway the wheel was struck until it stop. This car is 2017 hyundai sonata se. I noticed a difference when you change tires because the tires isn't sliding on the freeway and the street.

I was driving very slowly to make a turn into my garage when the car accelerated on its own and hit the side of my house breaking through a patio guard rail.the front wheels of the car went over the bulkhead.insurance company sent a wrecker to retrieve the vehicle.the insurance company totaled the car.this unintended acceleration had occurred once when i was driving on a state road in cruise control when the car accelerated beyond the set cruise control speed.this occurred again on the day before the accident.this unintended acceleration had also occurred when my husband was driving the car while in speed control.

Trunk latch failed completely. Failure to release by key fob, failure to release from interior button, and failure to release from manual lock cylinder.

The truck won't open an there is no emergency handle to open it my things are stuff in my trunk. Car is parked

After spending over $1000 to have my serpentine belt replaced, transmission and brake fluids flushed; i've attempted to open my trunk on multiple occasions and will not open. Dealership is saying it will cost over $700 to fix, with all the complaints this shows to be manufacturer issues. It should be fixed free of charge, i will purchase a brand new car, before i put any more money into a ticking time bomb as there is a current recall in regards to the engine. Currently have 70,000 miles on the vehicle.

While i was sitting at a red light my car cut off. After it turned of i tried stating it back up3 times. First i tried once i put it in park once in neutral and finally the third time i was in park ad it started back up.

Paint chipped on it's own. In less than 1 year of having my vehicle i had to take it back to the dealership to have it repainted. Now that the warranty is over they don't want to fix the continuing issue. The paint must have been a bad batch from the manufacturer and now this is something that i cannot fix not even through my insurance. I am not the only one that has complained about this same issue.

The trunk latch not locking. Opened trunk in driveway, tried to close trunk and it wouldn't lock/close.

Antenna cap keeps coming off. Second time replacement. This is really aggravating now the warranty will not cover it.

Trunk won't open

While going down the highway, the vehicle's check engine, abs, tpms, traction control, air bag, electronic steering & emergency brake lights all came on simultaneously. & at that same time the speedometer & tachometer both dropped to 0, the digital display of the engine temp guage, gear setting & other onboard displays went down while the car was in motion on the highway. I was able to safely pull over to the shoulder but once the car was placed in park the shifter locked & i was no longer able to change gear settings.

The car was stationed in my garage, came home from shopping, hit the trunk button on my key fob, just starting hearing some clicking noises, tried to press the the truck release from inside, continue to hear clicking noises. I had a mechanical to look at it, they had to pull my seats in the back down to look inside the trunk andthey said it look like a malfunction on the trunk box inside.

When starting car, it starts shaking real hard then cuts off. It doesn't at times.

Hood does not stay open. Last oil change it slammed down.i heard there was issue with trunk latch.

Truck latch initially would not open with out the key or dashboard option now will not remain close.

May 3, 2019 2:34 p.m, contact was driving very slowly to make the turn into my assigned parking space, when all of a sudden, on its own, my car accelerated at great speed, forcefully pressing me against the seat back, flying over the stop curb at the front of my space, continuing across the gravel leeway before smashing part way through the cement block wall that surrounds our property. Demolished the front of my car as it punched a large hole in the cement block wall.air bags deployed, causing deep bruising, swelling and abrasions on arms, legs and stomach. My left shoulder joint and upper back were wrenched enough that i am having to do physical therapy.firemen and emt's were there and checked me out. The police were on site and filed a report. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified. My insurance company had the car moved to a collision facility and declared the car a total loss. I bought the car new with 1350 miles on it. The mileage was just 3,591, when the car accelerated on its own, out of control and smashed through the concrete block wall.the consumer stated as a result of the crash, there were injuries including a wrenched shoulder and upper back. There was deep bruising on the abdomen and abrasions on the right leg.*dt

Important: this is hybrid vehicle. With the cruise control set to maintain a constant speed and while descending a long hill, the vehicle speed is maintained using dynamic braking by charging the battery. But if the grade is long - such as on ca 101 just north of san luis obispo, (locally referred to as the questa grade) there will come a time when the battery ā€œgas gaugeā€¯ reaches 100 % at which time the dynamic braking ceases and without warning the vehicleā€™s speed gradually increases and can reach excess speeds. If you are not paying attention to the speedometer the speed can become excessive in a hurry.

Issue: cruise control speeds up too much going uphill, and slows down too much going downhill. Description: i set my cruise control to 75mph, the car will go over 77mph when going uphill, and slows down below 73mph when going downhill without any driver input. This doesn't occur on other gasoline only hyundai i drove such as santa fe. It only happens on my sonata hybrid. I guess hyundai may need to look into how the electric motor works with cruise control.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While the vehicle was stationary, it rapidly accelerated without warning. Hyundai of jasper in jasper, alabama was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2017 hyundai sonata. While stationary on "auto-hold", the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning at 40 mph and crashed into a fence.
