Passenger air bag indicator on dashboard remains "off" (air bag deactivated) even during driving.therefore, air bag will not deploy in case of accident.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph and exiting an alleyway, another vehicle crashed into the front driver's side and the air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained neck, head and wrist injuries. Also, the contact mentioned that the other driver sustained unknown injuries. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 42,817. Updated 05/28/14*lj updated 05/30/2014

The dash board cracked around the airbag. Dealer stated it happens sometimes if the dashboard becomes too hot from the sun and no correction is needed as the airbag will still function. There is a light 'film' on the windshield and front, side windows. When i explored further i was informed by 2 separate mechanics when the airbag gas to push the bag to open (when needed by impact) enough to crack the dashboard, the airbag is no longer functioning. The film on my window (windshield, front sides) is from the expansion of the gases sticking to them. I have reviewed several forums, my problem is shared by many owners. It is over 1000$ to fix- which few people have, and should be 100% covered in full by the manufacturer. Second issue, my passenger side airbag monitor only works intermittently. My granddaughter is 75lbs the airbag 'on' light may or may not turn on. I have read this is may have been addressed in a recall which only ended with the 2008 sonata.mine is a 2010. Obviously, both are huge safety issues and need to be repaired asap. I cannot afford to do so. Currently my front passenger seat is not safe to use. Hyundaishould be held accountable for both issues before someone else is misinformed and counts on their passenger airbag not to be injured, maimed or killed. These issues are not dependent on the movement of the car. Thank you,[xxx]i did not purchase this vehicle until january 2016. It cracked during the summer of 2015. Picture are dashboard inside and 2 outside.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The airbag light came on and will not go off, took to dealer and they claim the sensor in the seat has gone bad and cost $675 to replace it and also i had to pay $90 just to diagnose it,this should not be right on a 5 year old car, i have seen other complaints online from car owners- i have not replaced part yet as i feel hyundai should do it for free- and btw there have been 11 recalls on this car so far that i have had to have done- please put pressure on them to recall 2010-2011 sonatas to fix the issue

Two vertical cracks on either side of the passenger side airbags showed up this morning.the car has not been in any accidents.due these cracks i am afraid the airbag will deploy without cause when my grandchildren are in the passenger seat, or deploy while i am driving.please advise on this as soon as possible.thank you.cindy l.

I was stopped in traffic on i-4 in florida and a gmc pickup truck hit me in the rear of my car a 2010 hyundai sonata.the gmc truck was going 70-78 mph when it hit me.none of my side or any of my air bags deployed as they should have. My sonata's air bag sensor indicator light came on, also the passenger side air bag is saying "off" the car only has 41,400 mile, i acquired it from my mother . There have been no accidents to the care, thus, no air bag deployment. I brought it to my mechanic who said that he could not fix it because the codes were all off, it needs to go to a dealership. When i checked on recalls, the vin did not come up as a recall. This is a safety issue that i should be fixed by the dealership at no charge, but since it is not a recall, i have to pay for it. Please help me with this issue

Dashboard above passenger airbag developed (2) vertical cracks within (24) hours without incident.there has been no contact or incident of the vehicle or dash area at issue. Not sure if airbag is trying to deploy, or has deployed internally.to the best of my knowledge the vehicle was parked when the said damage occurred.

Air bag light stays on

My son was recently in two accidents involving hyundai sonatas. Both vehicles were totaled.in the first accident, he was driving a 2010 hyundai sonata. He fell asleep driving home one night and hit a guardrail with the left front panel.the car continued to slam into the guardrail all the way down the left side.no airbags deployed! four days ago, while driving a 2009 hyundai sonata, he slid on wet pavement and went down an embankment.he hit a large rock protruding from the ground causing the car to flip onto its roof.it continued to slide downhill until it finally came to a stop upside down.again, not one airbag deployed! by the grace of god my son walked away from both accidents with only minor injuries.i am concerned that both these vehicles have significant airbag protection but when it was needed, they did not deploy.i am concerned that someone else may not be as lucky as my son was.

At 2014 -crash the air back was never deployedit was next to redlght and i was impact in the trunk with jeep wrangler and impulsed to 90's mercury at front three vehculos was involved and i was in the middle i have cervical injure that make pintch nerves and desease that is very painfully now i'm under pills and quiropractor services

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The front end of the vehicle was hit by another vehicle while it was stationary. The contact stated that the other vehicle was going approximately 10 miles an hour at the time and the amount off damage to the front end of the vehicle should have caused the air bags to deploy. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop and the insurance company stated that they were surprised that the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was repaired, but the contact was afraid to drive the vehicle. The failure mileage and current mileages were 6870.

Drivers side impact with failure of driver's side air bag to deploy.side curtain air bag did deploy. Accident resulted in fatality.

As i was driving to make a turn the car shut down without warning. It has happened two other times sine this first incident. Car shut down as i was going various speeds.the cranking of the ignition is also a problem. I first reported this to the dealer in 2011. It cranks as if it is about to die then it has eventually caught and turned on. This is an ongoing issue. Since it doesn't show a code or act up when i am in for service they do nothing for me.

When you turn the key over everything comes on and everything works except the starter. I have replaced 3 starters and the car doesn't even have 103,000 miles on it. I turned the car off outside of the store. I came back out turned the key and nothing. I was stranded again! i'm thinking it's something else.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to a private repair shop for diagnostic testing, where it was determined that the starter failed. The vehicle was repaired by replacing the starter. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 68,000. The current mileage was 70,500.

2010 hyundai sonata.9 months old, has been in the service center 5 different times.2 times for sensor replacement.the last 3 times, driving at a normal accelerate pace.check engine light comes on, esc light comes on and vehicle loses power.on one of those occasions, vehicle lost power while going through intersection, and almost was rear ended.service department has replaced many parts from throttle position assembly to thermostat to electrical wiring harness.in my opinion, vehicle is a lemon.

I had to replace the driver & passenger door handles.had to get switch to open gas tank repaired.when fueling car, pump continuesly stops when tank is not full.

My 2010 hyundai sonata completely shut down on me 2-times in less than 5-minutes times while i was driving today. I was on my way to enter the expressway. The power steering and everything just shut down. My car just made a sudden stop. Thank god i had not entered the expressway and took the side streets home. I feel that this is a real safety hazard to myself, the passengers riding with me as well as other drivers, passengers and families on the road. My vehicle has 53,215 miles, there is no way this should be happening. If this is happening to my vehicle, i know it's occurring in other sonata's and other hyundai vehicles base on what i see in online entries on the 2010 hyundai sonata and hyundai vehicles. Manufactures must be held accountable for the defected products place on the market. I know that i'm a small voice against a large corporation, but if you take the time to investigate i know that my claim will be validated. I hope and pray that something is done about this before we are dealing with injuries or fatalities.i am a frustrated and unhappy hyundai sonata owner, looking for hyundai to put safety first!

Had to get 3 starters and 2 batteries for this vehicle do to the ignition being bad. And we just figured it out. It's would start and go. But over time it would give out and i've been stranded a couple of time with this problem.

Windows stopped going up and down..can;t get my windows up and down at all.they are presently in the up position but will not move ..ican here a clicking noise when ipush the button to go up and down but the window will not move, not any window.safety hazard.

I was sent a safety recall letter from hyundai stating that the stop lamp switch intermittently malfunctions. This happens to me continuously. I took it to a repair shop when i was vacationing in chicago, as i thought there was a problem with my car, and that i might be in a dangerous road situation. They checked it out and could find nothing, but i still had to pay for the diagnosis. I have asked hyundai to reimburse me for this since it turns out to be a malfunction, that caused me to spend money to try to diagnose. They refuse to reimburse me, even though they admit it is a malfunction on their part...but i wasn't notified of this until 4 months after being charged to try and figure out what was going on.

Came out to work parking lot. Car would not start. Battery was failing, not dead. Replaced battery [with duralast battery (autozone - 09/19/2013) - $115]; did not resolve issue. Starter was tested and had failed. Replaced the starter [with duralast starter (autozone - 09/20/2013) - $267.11]; resolved the issue.

The electronic stability control (esc) turns off randomly by its self while the car engine is on.pressing the esc button to turn esc back on does not work.turning off the engine and then turning it back on sometimes takes care of the problem.when the esc is off, the breaking system is severely affected where even with a relatively light press on the brakes can result in the locking of the tires.

My car won't start. It sounds like it tries to start then all you hear is the starter spinning. I had my vehicle towed to the nearest hyundai dealership. The service advisor at the dealership explained that the starter lever arm need to be replaced. The plastic part is known to be faulty, and hyundai refuses to perform a recall to replace the plastic part with a metal part. To make matters worse-the starter lever arm cost about $8.15 to replace however the dealership insist on charging $400 to replace the broken plastic lever arm. I am a second owner, and have 75k miles on my vehicle; therefore i do not have a warranty on the part.

I have had my 2010 hyundai sonata since 2011.when i had 60 thousand miles on the car it was under warranty so i had 2 door handles that had to be replaced due to them braking off in the same area.they replaced them free for me but now i have another handle that is broken off.has there been a recall on them breaking if so i would like to know why i was never sent any information on that.when i talk with the people at the dealership one dealer tells me they have had problems with the 2010 sonata door handles, but another dealers says that they haven't.what is the truth.they break off in the same area and this time i am not under warranty so they want to charge me $310.00 to replace the handle.that is so outrageous.also the door handle on the driver's inside pop and you have to roll down window and out from the outside.i have decided that i will be selling this car and will not buy a hyundai again and will not advise anyone else too.to me these are easy fixes that the dealers are charging you outrageous prices for.

When speeding up or slowing down the esc light can come on. Car appears to have trouble changing gears when this happens. When the issue occurs after stopping or yielding then the car can go into a jolting back and forth motion for a few seconds up unto about 30 seconds before it smooths out. Also, some times, the car is unresponsive for a few seconds up unto 30 seconds before it will respond to the gas pedal being pushed. Stopping the car and restarting the engine appears to clear the esc light, but it can come back on randomly at another speeding up or slowing down. Dealer appears to have no answer after 5 days in their service shop.

The esc light intermittently comes on and of and the esc button does not do anything.

Esc off light comes on, and check engine light comes on sometimes when driving. Sometimes, the car loses its power when that happens in the middle of driving. Acting as if the car was turned off. It has happened multiple times.

Esc off light comes on and goes off. My car wont speed up on the freeway while this is happening and has almost put us in 2 accidents. My esc off light turns on by itself and causes the car to slow while im driving or even peel out in parking lots. I follow posted speed signs, but this switch turning on and off on its own with my two very young children in the car is very dangerous and even more scary.

I've driven this car since 2011 and have not had an issue like this before. Last week, (october, 1, 2017).while driving down an off-ramp at ~35 mph, my 2010 hyundai sonata's esc off light came on and would not go off ; at the same time my cruise control has stopped working.when i turn the car off and back on again, the esc off light is off,but within 5-7 minutes of driving it comes back on again and stays on and the cruise control does not work now regardless of if the esc off light is on or not.this occurs now every time i drive the car.at first the esc off light is off,and every time after the first 5-7 minutes of driving it lights up. (and pushing the esc off button does not affect it.) this occurs regardless of where i am driving or how (on on a two-lane, on the highway, in my driveway, turning, stopping, accelerating etc. The esc off light stays on and the cruise control light comes on when i push the cc button, but when i try to push the button to engage the speed set, nothing happens,it will not engage.) i took it to the only hyundai dealership within 100 miles of where i live, and i was told it would be $120.00 just to diagnose the problem.the csr that set up my appointment said he thought it might be the break light switch.i researched the issue myself, and apparently there has been a massive recall of various 2007-2011 hyundai's (sonata's included) that had faulty break light switches and needed to be replaced.i was never made aware of this recall/defect.now, after 7 years and 133,000 miles (i'm way over the warranty period) and have to pay $ that i do not have just to get it "diagnosed"not to mention how much it will cost to "fix" the problem.does the recall still cover my vehicle?and if not,is there a way i can order the part myself and replace it to see if that corrects the issue? -desperate in tn-

The esc off light comes on while i am driving. When the light is not on, the car drives fine. Once it comes on, it jumps every time the car switches gears or stops accelerating if my foot is on the gas. Each time i turn the car off, the light goes off, car drives fine and then the light comes back up randomly. Very scary especially when driving on the highway or up an incline.

When i pump gas even when on a empty tank , the gas will splash back all over the place almost like its full but when it's really empty , also the esc will turn off and on by its self from time to time , had too replace the fuel pump at 90,000 miles , now i'm getting a code po449 even with new gas cap .. Last but not least my paint is peeling off my car , especially the hood and roof . Noticed hyundai sheds there paint ,

The esc turns off while driving the car at normal speed. I cannot turn it on when this happens. I turn off the vehicle and turn it back on then i can work the switch for esc to turn on and off, but after driving less than a mile, esc will automatically turn off, when this happens if i try to turn it on using the switch, it does not turn on. I had the same problem a couple of years ago while the vehicle was under warranty (miles at that time around 40,000). The dealership said they fixed the issue, but it is recurring. Now the car is out of warranty.

Ihad my 2010 hyundai sonata for a recall, brake sensor recall.the day it was done the esc went on 3 times, which effects brakesand esc. On brakes inenumerous attemptes at hyundai hae produced nothing good. Did they install a bad brake sensor? they didnt check for that? since every day this lite has gone

My car has accelerated at least 10 times in the last 3 years when you put your foot on the brake the car bolts forward and keep going. It is a intermit problem and last time i almost got seriously hurt. The car won't stop when you hit the brakes. It happens driving and parking.

Takata recall . My girlfriend and i were driving when we were approaching a stop light when my esc light came on at 15 mph and my car 'stalled' then shut off however my car was turned on. I was in still in 'drive'and had four cars behind me. I proceeded to put my hazard lights on to let the other drivers pass by, put my car in park, then i turned the car off. After ten minutes i was able to turn the car on, proceeded to start to drive however the light remained on. I instantly noticed my car was slower than before i couldn't properly accelerate and the performance overall was just low. I am now afraid to go anywhere far with the car due to this experience luckily we were not in an accident this time. It's happened three more times since then. This was two weeks ago.

Car has only 77,000 miles and was well maintained. On august 27, i had driven the car late afternoon, parked. Later after a couple of hours when i went to start it, it would not start, jump start did not work. Mechanic replaced the starter and still would not start. He checked the engine and told me that the engine has seized. I took it to the hyundai dealer who confirmed that engine has seized. I contacted hyundai as the complaint is similar to other car engines that seized when drivenbetween 60,000 and 90,000 miles. Hyundai motors is not willing to fix this major issue.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving at 75 mph, an abnormal noise could be heard from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

Delays in acceleration linked to a computer program that controls the transmission, shifting from 1st to 2nd gear automatic transmission, there may be a 2 to 3 second lag in acceleration due to the transmission control module programming or transmission.

The dealer refused to perform warranty work when the check engine light came on unless i agreed to pay a fee of approximately $125 if the dealer decided that the work was not covered by the warranty.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. While driving at various speeds, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor seized due to lack of oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.

I went out to start my car and it wouldn't start. I had to call a tow truck after a jump wouldn't work. I bought the car a year and a half ago and when the driver tested the battery, it wasn't dead but it wasn't great. I replaced the battery ($95 at walmart) and the car started. For a day. The next day the car wouldn't start again, when we realized it was then the starter. I purchased and installed a new starter on the vehicle ($105 online) issue resolved. Pretty young of a car for the starter to go.

Have seen the recall notice on sonata 2011-12. I have a 2010, manufactured in alabama. The motor went out in the car a few months ago while i was driving. It lost power and stopped. The car continues to sit in my driveway. I had the dealer inspect it before it went out because of a knocking noise. The dealer (mungenast hyundai, 649 dunn rd., st. Louis, mo) reported it was a motor problem and the only way to fix it was to replace the motor. The warranty had already expired, and i did not have $5000 to replace the motor. The motor problems did not start with the 2011 models. I hope you can look into this, and hopefully i can get my vehicle repaired.thank you.

When driving vehicle, it completely stalls and vehicle is unable to start again for a few minutes.happens randomly without notice.

Driving in traffic and car stall on freeway doing rush hour traffic car died could not move gear selector fondling with key beforeit started was followed by a police until out of danger, had it tested at firestone auto repair no electrical problem was found

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 65 mph, engine light illuminated and the speed immediately decreased to approximately 30 mph. The contact pulled over to the shoulder and called the dealer's hotline for a tow truck. While the contact and his wife were seated in the vehicle waiting to hear from the dealer, the vehicle started smoking at the front end. The duo rushed out of the vehicle and called the fire department who immediately extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot where the insurance company took possession of the vehicle. The vehicle was written off by the insurance company. Per the advise of the insurance company, the contact notified the manufacturer of the failure since the vehicle was under warranty. The manufacturer started an investigation.

The driver side exterior door handle snapped and broke when i attempted to open my door. This is the second time this happened. The first time was approx. 8 months ago; when the passenger door handle did the same thing.

While driving at night on low beams, there is a black line mid-way the windshield disrupting my viewing field. It so distracting i hate driving this car at night!! it is hazardous to my driving! had it to the dealer service 2 or 3 times to check the lights and they also drove it at night and saw the same thing. They told me it was the way lights were designed and that cannot do anything for it!! very annoying!! i also have heard from people that ride with me at night that" those lights would drive them crazy driving like that"!! i may have to get rid of this car because it is so annoying!! you need to get a solution to this problem soon!! i am one unhappy customer right now! this is my third hyundai and i like them.....but not this one!!! this is a 2010 sonata. Have also had trouble with the transmission as it shifts to the next gear. Had it to dealership 3 times with that!!! not happy at all with this car!!!! there is no certain dates ...just an ongoing thing. The date below is when they told me they couldn't do anything more about the lights...it is the way they were!!

Takata recall needs to issue a recall onair bags, the light stays on and wont go off. What if im involved in a car crash? a recall needs to be issued on tag lights and break lights the bulb keeps blowing out, why is this?>

My2010 hyundai sonata has a low beam defect that is a danger to driveat night , especially on hilly country roads. There is a black band that erases the field of viewfor objects on or alongside the road. By the time the car had5k miles on her - she had been in twice to have the headlights checked and i was told they were adjusted as high as they could go and to use high beams if i couldn't see.i calledhyundai customer service and after getting nowhere i finally got a manager on the line and he promisedthat an engineer would be sent to my dealership and look over the problem -this never happened so when i called i was told to go back to the dealership so they could look at the lights againi get flashed by oncoming cars because they think my highs are on when they are not. I can't imagine what they see when my highs are on.if i drive under streetlights or have oncoming cars in my view i don'tsee theblack band but what i do see is my lights bouncing off road signs withonly splotches of letters being illuminated and the rest of the signdark. If something , like a deer, werein the roador by the side of the roadi would never see it. I do not want tocause an accident, kill someone, hit debris in the road or hurt myself in a crash because the lights have a faulty design. .i read that other 2010 sonata owners are having this same problem so when is hyundai going to do something about it and fix the problem or replace our cars?i wrote to hyundai and they claim that the lights are working as designed and i should take my carinto check my lights if i am having problems.i had already been told by the service center during my first visitthat it is a design flaw so i'm sensing a catch 22 here. I called the service center and told them i need to have a technician drive the car in the darkbefore closing hours.in the meantime, and until this gets fixed , the black band greatlyimpedes night driving and is a hazard.

I noticed this immediately after purchasing the car and driving off at night.i had test driven it for a long period in the daytime, but not at night.the headlights are either faulty or a product with very poor engineering.there is a very distinct horizontal line dividing darkness and light where headlights shine.that line jumps up and down as bumps in the road are crossed while driving.vision with lights at night is so poor that you have to drive slower than the normal speed limit.it is very shadowy with blotchy areas of darkness to light in the range of vision.shadows seem to be coming from everywhere; the distraction and lack of clear vision while driving at night is frightening and very dangerous. The only way i feel confident driving this vehicle at night is with the high beams on.i thought there was something wrong with my eyes before various other people with me confirmed this was occurring.i won't drive it on the freeway!

Door handles easily snapped off and sensor went out fuel tank. This happening on all cars i have 5 co workers same vehicles all have same promblem this should be fixed we cant enter in rear of car without getting in front to open both back doors

This is my second complaint about my fuel pump. Which was replaced last year.again on 8/2/16 i was driving on the highway 495 south toward richmond va . I was driving 60mph. When my car shut down. I was almost rear ended trying to move on the side of the road. I had my car towed to the pohanika hyunda dealership in capitol heights, md. The same place i had my fuel pump replaced last year.i was told it was the same problem and it happen to another car. I suspect it was a defective fuel pump.after i complain, the dealership states they will replace the part and not charge me, but i would have to pay $375.00 for the labor.i complain to management and they say they would pay for half the labor.the reason i'm writing this letter, because if there is a defective part, i don't want someone to be hurt or kill behind the wheel, because of a defective part.i had file a complaint with your agency last yearwith no response.i also contact hyundai costumer service and the better business bureau.

I had to replace the driver & passenger door handles.had to get switch to open gas tank repaired.when fueling car, pump continuesly stops when tank is not full.

Whenever filling gas, i would use a automatic cut-off in fuel dispenser lock. But the lock is always released after the point of release allowing gas to overfill and would cause gas to spread on side of vehicle as well as on the floor. This has happened regardless of the gas station pump.

The gas pump nozzle always switches off when i try to get gasoline, making it impossible sometimes to get the number of gallons i need, requiring a guess when the tank will be full because the trigger won't stay in place. Our 2010 hyundai sonata was purchased in 2012 and has had this problem since day one, and i see it is a common complaint on the internet among sonata owners. We brought it into the hyundai dealership in two different states: neither was able to locate the problem! this is unacceptable. At one point, we could not put any gas in and had to drive it immediately to the dealership. They replaced a carbine cylinder in the gas tank that cost $700. Just so we can put gas in the car, an requirement of its function.there was one pump at a gas station halfway across town that i found to work flawlessly. So i would drive there weekly on the outskirts of town. Twice, i was approached by strange men looking for money or a ride to the casino. Then on this last time it took 15 or so small pumps to raise the needle just a third of a tank. It is a safety issue as an overfull tank could spill toxic petrol on us while we are pumping gas, or leave us with too little gas and no way for the pump to work, and get stranded in a bad part of town or a highways. The check engine light has been going on and off for months, sometimes seeming to be related to the gas cap. Yet the dealerships can't help us and there is nowhere to buy gas that isn't a frustrating ordeal. Unacceptable. What are you going to do about this?https://www.hyundaiforum.com/forum/hyundai-elantra-17/problem-filling-gas-tank-3298/"if nhtsa receives similar complaints, it may open an investigation, and if it finds that a safety defect exisst in a group of vehicles, it may order a recall and remedy campaign." -- 2010 sonata owners manual, ch. 8, p. 16

I was traveling on the beltway doing 65 mph, i pressed on the gas pedal. I felt i was losing speed. I notice the speedometer decelerating down to 40mph while i was pressing the gas pedal. I put on my hazard lights pulled to the side of the road. I was concerned because no warning light came on, to notified me there was a problem with the vehicle. I took my car to the dealership, it was diagnosis as problem with my fuel pump.i check with hyundai they said, the fuel pump does not have a warning light. My concern if some type of warning light should have appeared on the dashboard before i started the car. I wouldhave not drove the car if the warning light was on, i would have took it to the dealership.i felt this was a safety issue because someone could have rear end me on the beltway, due to the sudden drop in speed. I have enjoyed my car so far, but i was disappointed regarding this incident.i have a son who drives my car, i am worried about his safety and the safety of others. I was assigned a case number with hyundai 8216379. However, i spoke with a case manager [xxx] who said it was not much they could do.i wanted to have a record on file regarding this compliant, and to see if it could be investigated.thank youinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On sunday 9/1, i came out of church and could not open my passenger back door from the outside. My son took it to the dealer on 9/4 where i get my service done, he was told it would be $80 to look at the problem because my warranty had run out, but they would deduct the $80 from the price of repair, i did not get it fixed, low and behold on 9/4 after getting off work i went into the store, came out and my passenger side front door would not open from the outside, very dangerous, if i have an accident no one would be able to get me out nor my grandson out who sit behind the passenger seat, he is 5. What can i do if i cannot afford to get the doors repaired at this time. Seems like a very bad safety issue to me and the manufacture should fix this at no expense to me, seems like a recall to me.

During an inspection i was informed that the rear brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced.i then took the car for a second opinion which verified that the rear brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced.i was surprised as the car had only about 53k miles and the front brake pads were still good (although i was informed they had about another 60,000 miles).up to now the car has run well with the exception of the front door latch being replaced which i know is another problem with the hyundai sonatas.i did think hyundai customer service could have been better for both issues.

Our 6 month old child must have eaten too much or had an upset stomach and began to vomit.my wife and i begin to panic because of possible choking.so we are doing 40 mph on road with no shoulder and cars all around looking for a place pull off.but he's not choking yet, so i'm still driving.finally a shoulder, so i pull off and stop. This is a rental car, but is no different from many other cars in that much to our dismay she finds that although she can open her door and get out she can't get into his door) because problem #1 it's one of those cars that has the doors that lock automatically when you take it out of park or move more than 5mph or something like that.so now we are fighting with the buttons on our respective doors, both trying to unlock his door, in our panic not thinking through that maybe i have to put it in park and they'll all unlock themselves.now i'm panicking again - she's about to crawl over the seat, i'm about to start tearing pieces off this car but i can't get out cause cars are flying by my side.so she finally reaches around and unlocks his door from the inside and gets him out of the car seat.he's ok.whew! i really believe these auto locks are a bad idea, and i have from the start, but now i know i never ever want a car of mine to have that feature and i will always disable it.in the meantime i have learned that while i have this rental car i can wait for the doors to lock and hit the unlock button and they will stay unlocked.which brings me to problem #2. The unlock button on the door does not have the same symbols on it as the unlock button on my remote car key.and the symbols on the door button are far too small - i have to lean forward and squint to figure out which position is "unlock."the car key has the symbols of an open padlock and closed padlock.these to me should be the same symbols used on the door button - they should be a universal symbol, and they should be big enough to see from my seat.

Delays in acceleration linked to a computer program that controls the transmission, shifting from 1st to 2nd gear automatic transmission, there may be a 2 to 3 second lag in acceleration due to the transmission control module programming or transmission.

When the transmission is cold, while driving and slowing down to 20 mhp the card jerks, hard downshift from 3rd to 2nd, and rpm increase by several hundred rps. Once the transmission warms up, issue mostly goes away. Issue started this year.second issue is the white paint easily comes off all over the car, even just from hosing the car with water. Issue has been going on for several years. Its happening all over the car payment. Dealership said they havenot seen the issue before, however i see alot of owners with white color have this issue. Some times i have a hard down shift sometimes i don't the transmission was suppose to been replace but two years later its doing the same thing.

Suspension and transmission faulty.

When vehicle is cold and i decelerate down thru 20 mph, the transmission down shifts abruptly causing a jerking motion.i have been told by an auto mechanic who researched it that there was an actual recall by hyundaifor this issue.he said the problem was that hyundai installed computer control equipment from an older model in their 2010 sonatas and this resulted in a failure in proper communication between the computer and the automatic transmission's solenoid, causing the abrupt down shifting at 20 mph when car is cold.one last note: when this first started occurring, it would cause the "fix engine" light to come on, but this has not happened for about the last three weeks.the abrupt down shifting when cold still occurs consistently, always right around 20 mph.

I have had to replace the brake pads three times. Replaced rotors front and rear. Replaced calipers on rear and repaired the fronts. 87000 highway miles. Transmission hard shift from new. Dealer states that they have never heard of any trouble like this.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, he attempted to accelerate further, but the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 50 mph. I was backing up slowly when the car suddenly accelerated without me touching the gas. I was about to put it into forward gear when it suddenly lurched backward.

Hyundai sonata 2010 v6 sedan rolls backwards on incline when in drive. Basically goes into freefall in time it takes to put foot from brake to accelerator. Also steering is very swimmy. Tend to over or under steer and lots of sway in chasis when turning or changing lanes at high speeds on freeway.have taken to dealer multiple times and told it is the way it is designed. Sounds flawed to me.

The manual transmission in my 2010 hyundai sonata has been having abnormal issues since my date of purchase.first it was just stalling when disengaging the clutch from reverse and first gear; now it is primarily from first gear.to get the car to move forward you must drag the clutch and push the accelerator causing an odd clacking noise in the front of the car, or sometimes it has a squealing or rubbing sound and the car does not move forward and there is a burning smell.today, when shifting from first gear to second gear, the car lunged forward as though it was accelerating on it's own and i was barely touching the gas pedal.i have taken it to the dealer twice with complaints of the abnormal performance, the first time at 809 miles, and the second time at 1794 miles , and they said they have not been able to duplicate the complaint.

Back rear brakes have needed constant replacing since the first replacement in 2013 at 41,658 miles---rear pads and rotars. Eight mos. Later at 48,900, replaced the rear rotars and pads again.two weeks later at 49,247, replaced rear left flex brake hose and caliper, and deglazed pads and rotars. Six months later at 56,199, the right rear brake was metal to metal and binding--replaced right rear caliper, rotar, and pads. Today, dec. 29, 2015, with mileage at 67,950, had to fix the back left brakes which emitted a terrible burning smell when used. The mechanic replaced, under warranty, the whole back set of brakes (rotars, calipers, pads). The lug nuts and studs were all seized up from the heat of the left rear brake failure and had to be forcibly removed and replaced by the mechanic. There is something very wrong with the back rear brakes of this car, and these brake failures should not be happening with so little mileage put on the brakes between repairs.

Caliper right rear seized and destroyed brakes.all rotors and pads needed to be replaced, front and rear due to premature wear.all tires worn as well and need replacement.mechanic said caliper should not have done this at this mileage.common issue reading online reports and a class action suit in ny has been filed.safety issue.

Caliper locked up on driver side rear causing rotor and pads to experience severe damage and needed to be replaced.second time this happened.previous incident was rear passenger side brakes in march 2013 in which all rear brake pads, rotors and that caliper needed to be replaced.this incident also caused premature wear on front brakes and those needed replacement months later.dealer would not repair as it was out of warranty mileage.

The right rear brake burned up three times now had the calipers changed two times on right side once on left sidein 90000 miles there must be a problem in system that's interment i have a non contact infrared thermometer in my car that i ck temps of brakes when i drive i ck them when i stop in parking lots rest stops trying to catch the problem before the brakes burn upsome times i can drive over150 miles no problem some times just 10 miles brakes heat up to 315 degrees or more last repairthe rear pads on right side where burnt up left where still goodthe dealer shop checked outbrakes could not find any reason the right was sticking or dragging the date of repair was oct 10- 2017.that was the most resent.

Defective rear brakes.one rear brake pad was down to metal.grinding and smoking.pads and rotors were replaced by hyundai dealer.now at 38,000 miles car is in local shop for same work.one of three pads are down to metal.diagnosed as defective brake caliper.claim will be made to hyundai but many others have been denied per internet and n.y. Class action lawsuit.this is considered to be a possible safety issue.

Takata recall needs to issue a recall onair bags, the light stays on and wont go off. What if im involved in a car crash? a recall needs to be issued on tag lights and break lights the bulb keeps blowing out, why is this?>

Vehicle started to make a heavy grinding noise from passenger side rear wheel.closer inspection revealed a fresh gouge in the rotor.took the car to the dealer where the vehicle was purchased and was informed that this was a normal wear and tear item, and not covered under warranty (even though a "gold" warranty had been purchased with caliper replacement plainly included).this indianapolis dealership wanted to charge $380 to replace the rear brake pads and rotors.an independent repair shop found that the drivers side of the rear had approximately 40% of the life left on the brake pads and only normal wear to the rotor, while the passenger side was worn down to the metal on the pads and had rendered the rotor unserviceable.it was also noted that the wear indicator on the passenger side was broken, and did not give the normal audio warning of excessive wear.when asked why the rear should wear out faster than the front (which is what all local brake shops told me would happen), the hyundai service manager did not have any reply.it should be noted that there are several instances of similar failures, and even a class action lawsuit filed in new york state for the exact same issue.a sticking brake caliper is suspected, but could not be confirmed.rear brake pads, rotors, and hardware were replaced at my expense.the brake caliper was cleaned, lubed, and reinstalled.dealership would not honor any warranty obligation for this defect.front brakes also showed at least 40% of their life remaining on the pads.

My car has accelerated at least 10 times in the last 3 years when you put your foot on the brake the car bolts forward and keep going. It is a intermit problem and last time i almost got seriously hurt. The car won't stop when you hit the brakes. It happens driving and parking.

We had to replace the rear brake pads in june 2012 and now in january 2013 having an issue with the rear diver side pad sticking.the front pads were still in good condition.these are hyundai oem brakes.i have been reading numerous complaints about rear brake issues on hyundai vehicles.i have also read that there is a class action law suite in new york over this same issue.i wanted to make a report and possibly find out if there are any plans for an investigation.hyundai does not seem to have any plans to recall since the issue seems to have existed since 2006.this is far from normal wear and tear and at the cost of the purposed (by hyundai service) periodic removal, cleaning, and lubing of the brake pads i cannot see this a non issue.that is not to mention the danger of possible brake failure.

I had to replace the rear brake pads on my 2010 sonata at 16,794 miles on both sides.i had to replace the rear pads and rotors on both sides at 23,156 miles.i had to replace the right rear brake line, pad, rotor and caliper at 25,854 miles.there has been no issues on front brakes, however, i have had to service my rear brakes 3 times.i bought this vehicle brand new from my local hyundai dealer and it had 4 miles on it.i have spent $768.80 on my rear brakes since i have bought this vehicle in february of 2010.there is clearly a problem with the brake components on this car.the rear brakes should not wear out before the front brakes, and especially a vehicle that has 16,000 miles on it.

Sometime w/in the past 2 years, i checked your website for "any" mechanical complaints that had been filed about the 2010 hyundai sonata gls. There were 44 (filed nationally) for broken door handles and sticking brake calipers. Well, yesterday (9-6-2014) as i was entering my vehicle in the afternoon, the driver's side door handle "broke completely off." i'm retired, single and very rarely have passengers in my vehicle, thereby little use of the other door handles......just 4 years of using my driver's side door. I'm elderly, not aggressive or rough on equipment, nor in a hurry. It was just a normal pull on my door handle and it snapped completely off. I've even been more cautious about opening my door since i read about prior complaints in the past on your website. Well, i just thought i'd add my "two cents" since doors handles seem to be one of two common problems w/ my model. Overall, when i last checked your website and saw only 44 complaints for the 2010 model, i was impressed......but never expected it to ever happen to me. Bad luck i guess. Hope the dealership honors the warranty when i call them tomorrow. I bought the car new and really like it. It has performed well and i'm very proactive when it comes to maintenance.

After driving on highway and then slowing for traffic which became stop and go traffic - the brake pedal started slowly fading all the way to the floor.after coming to a stop and pumping the pedal - the brakes seemed to respond but then the same issue repeated - had to have the car towed and discovered that the calipers had frozen on both rear wheels (wheels would not turn freely by hand when car was on lift) and the front right caliper was becoming tight as well.repair involves new calipers, rotors and pads for all 4 wheels.

The drivers side rear brakes are burning through brake pads. The calipers are working smoothly but for unknown reason they are sticking. The front bakes are fine but the rear set has gone through 2 sets of brake pads in less than 10,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle failed to stop. As a result, the contact crashed into a hill and the air bags deployed. The contact sustained unknown injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was deemed destroyed and towed to a salvage yard. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

We had to replace the rear brake pads in august 2013 and now in december 2013 having an issue with the rear driver side pad sticking. After hearing the grinding noise again i took it to the repair shop. They are replacing the rotor, pads and calipers for failure to function at a cost of $400. The front pads were still in good condition. These are hyundai oem brakes. I have been reading numerous complaints about rear brake issues on other 2010 hyundai vehicles. I have also read that there is a class action law suite in new york over this same issue. I wanted to make a report and possibly find out if there are any plans for an investigation. Hyundai does not seem to have any plans to recall since the issue seems to have existed along time. This is far from normal wear and tear and at the cost of the purposed (by hyundai service) periodic removal, cleaning, and lubing of the brake pads. This is not normal on any other car and i cannot see this a non issue. That is not to mention the danger of possible brake failure. Is hyundai waiting for someone to die first?

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. While driving 60 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to respond. The contact placed the vehicle in neutral to slow it down before coming to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 75,000.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, she applied the brakes but the vehicle did not decelerate. Teh contact applied extreme force to the brakes and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard before the vehicle began to decelerate. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the calipers and brakes would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 90,000.

The rear driver side brake was making a grinding noise.took to the shop and they say the caliper is working uneven and causing the pad to brake down faster than normal, it was on bare medal.could this be the crossbar recall causing this to get uneven or an unrelated item?the other side still had 40% pad on it.this seems like a problem to me.

The vehicle needed rear brake pads and cutting of the rear rotors at 24,000 miles. No matter what your driving habits are or type of driving you do (highway vs. Around town} that is way to early for rear brakes to need replacing. I have checked with various dealers and they all agree that is not normal. Now there is alsoburning smell that occurs periodically coming from the rear of the car. I brought it to the dealer where i purchased it, hackettstown hyundai, and they made me wait a week for an appointment andthen looked it over quickly and said they smell nothing and see no problem. They were rude and you could tell they wanted nothing to do with the problem. I mentioned there is a class action lawsuit due to premature rear brake wear but they knew nothing and could care less. It seems someone is going to have to be involved in a fatal accident for hyundai to care. Lets get together and makes them correct the problem before its to late.

When my car is being sitting for long periods of time like more than two hours and when i start driving and i have to break or reduce speed feels kind of rough or hard to break but after a while driving start braking like normal i think is a safety issue because it start doing it after i took the car to universal hyundai in orlando they recommended new brake pad in rear and tires i replace them but car still doing it also the dealer said thats not in the recall i do have the documents when i took the car to be inspected. I would like to know what i have to do to correct this problem.

I have had to replace the brake pads three times. Replaced rotors front and rear. Replaced calipers on rear and repaired the fronts. 87000 highway miles. Transmission hard shift from new. Dealer states that they have never heard of any trouble like this.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. While driving 55 mph, the brake system failed to engage when the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the the contact crashed into the preceding vehicle. The front driver side air bag failed to deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the legs, knees, lower back, and shoulders that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 39,000.

Back rear brake sounded like it was grinding and brake pedal very soft.took for repair while out of state.they replace all 4 break pads and rotors.next day i went back and complained that i smelled a burning smell and was told that was normal.on july 8 heard grinding sound which was severe on right rear brake.repair shop owner said the caliper right rear seized and destroyed brakes. All rotors and pads on rear needed to be replaced.the repair shop showed me the pad and rotor from the right rear brake and i saw that there was nothing left of a pad and could plainly see how the meal on both the pad and rotor were ground.i believe that i previously had the brakes repaired but can't remember the specifics.

Car had unsolicited acceleration when backing up. Car went flying back in full acceleration.hit railing/stairs.i put car in park. Thought i must have hit acceleration by mistake so i went to put car in drive to pull into parking space, when i took for of brake the car careened out of control full acceleration. I tried brake foot pressing pedal down car wouldn't stop. I steered into low cement parking space bumper and bushes to stop car. - 1024.00 to replace throttle body that hyundai checked out and said it was sticking. Hyundai charged me for the throttle body replacement - i am waiting on estimate of property damage i did when i attempted to back out of parking space at my doctor's office.

Drivers side brake pads wearing prematurely. Pads are staying against the rotor. It appears to be a defective caliper. The caliper slides work smoothly, pads move freely, nothing seems to be wrong but the caliper sticks with no apparent cause.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph and attempting to merge into a second lane to avoid a vehicle from crashing into her when the steering wheel became abnormally stiff. The contact stated that the failure would occur sporadically without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians advised that the failure was caused due to the vehicle not having a stabilizer. The dealer advised that the vehicle cuold not be repaired because it was designed without the stabilizer and he was unable to override the design. The manufacturer was not contacted in regards to the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 400.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the coupling in the steering column was loose and the steering wheel shook while driving. Hyundai waipio (94-1299 kauka blvd, waipahu, hi 96797, (808) 679-3400) stated that the coupling needed to be replaced; however, they charged $600 in labor for a $3 part. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 105,000.

Recently purchased a one owner 2010 hyundai sonata limited from dealership in bismarck, nd the car has 6800 original miles. The steering wheel makes a rubbing and crackling sound. The wheel is also loose as i can rock the steering wheel from side to side without turning wheel and it is definitely loose. Makes lots of noise when driving crackling and popping sounds.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 55 mph over a bump in the road, the steering wheel wobbled and shook. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired in 2010 for a similar failure. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 162,000.

Driving along at about 35 miles per hour when vehicle engine died.restarted vehicle and it was almost impossible to steer.i was near home so i was able to get it home where it stayed until i could get it towed to a hyundai dealer.the dealer replaced power steering pump, the power steering rack and pinion, gear and linkage assembly and performed a 4-wheel alignment.i was extremely blessed that i was not on the local interstate going at the maximum speed allowed.i note that there are numerous complaints about the steering on the 2010 hyundai sonata and other earlier and later year sonatas.it seems there should be a recall before someone is seriously injured or killed.

I have been experiencing issues with my alignment and my tires have been wearing incrediblyunevenly.when driving on the highway my car will shake violently.i was advised to realign again several months ago and my tires continue to be destroyed and my car contributes to shake.today when my power steering was being replaced for an open recall i was advised upon pick up that my steering coupler has gone bad and needs to be replaced as this is an extremely dangerous issue (never mind that i was informed of this issue after my steering column was reassembled so i have to pay labor for them to pull the entire unit again!). I've read many complaints similar to this online regarding bad couplers and shaking cars ruining tires.i was advised that if it breaks further my car will likely swerve into another lane of traffic and be extremely difficult to steer.

I've been told that the lower steering coupler bushing on my 2010 hyundai sonata needs to be replaced. I've done some research and i see that my year model car is not he only car made by hundai(kia are also being reported to having the same problem). It appears this part is made out of plastic, and the replacement part has gone through several revisions due to it not holding up to the rigors of it's job.this plastic part costs under <$10, but the labor cost of replacing this is in excess of $200. You would think that any critical part of the steering mechanism would be made of a material that would last longer.due to the failure of this plastic piece, a thudding noise can be heard when moving the steering wheel when the car is not on. I don't know what other possible problems may occur if this item were to fail while the car is moving.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving at higher speeds he noticed that the vehicle would drift to the left. The failure had occurred on an intermittent basis since he purchased the vehicle. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer nor has it been repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and he filed a complaint with them. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.

While traveling 55+mph on the highway in a curve that is curving right. The car starts to rock/sway side to side. Similar to a gust of wind blowing against the car from the side. Problem only occurs when over 55mph and driving through a curve on a highway. Car seems normal when going straight or on inside roads at lower speeds. Alignment was good, and inspection by sears found no issues. Nothing loose etc. No recall from hyundai. This is a major concern especially when driving on icy roads. This problem may lead to an accident/crash.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel was difficult to turn and made a squeaking noise. The failure recurred numerous times. The contact called sterling mccall hyundai (located at 10505 southwest fwy, houston, tx 77074, (713) 981-4400) and was informed that the vin was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

Going through a 2-3 inch puddle of water vehicle steering locked up and battery light came on.now when there is any heavy rain the car steering locks up.

The steering will randomly stick.its especially dangerous on the highway and has me terrified of curves.it causes over correcting because the steering sticks and then turns loose.i've saw numerous over complaints of this same issue.it makes the car wander all over the road while driving.it makes turning at lower speeds very difficult.and turning at higher speeds incredibly dangerous.they recalled the later sonatas, the 2010 sonatas should have been included as well.

Each door handle has broken off at least once, and two have broken off twice. Once it occured at a shopping mall where i was concerned about a man lurking nearby my car and couldn't get into the driver's side of the vehicle to protect myself.

My complaint is that the original black steel wheels on my vehicle have rusted.i am surprised that a vehicle will suffer rust on its wheels after so short a period of time.no i do not drive onto or near a beach.my car did not suffer sea water damage as a result of hurricane sandy.the black paint on my wheels is now a rusty brown. Is there any safety recall regarding these wheels?please contact me.thankyou

I have a 2010 hyundai sonata with approximately 77,000 miles on it. My passenger side door handle came off today, 11/29/13. This is the 2nd one in the last 6 months that has come completely off when someone tried to open it. This happened during normal conditions and use. The handles only have plastic clips holding them on. I feel that this is a big problem and could be a serious safety hazard. Hyundai needs to look into this and recall as it seems to be a huge problem that many owners are having. The dealer quoted me a price of $250 to replace it with one that was painted to match my car.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata.the contact stated that all four door handles fractured.as a result, the contact had to continuously leave the window down in order to open the door from inside the vehicle.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was notified.the vin was unavailable.the failure mileage was 80,000.updated 08/28/14*lj updated 08/29/2014

My back passenger door handle on the outside has come off.as i'm reading online im seeing this is a common issue so i'm trying to comprehend why nothing is being done about this.people can't afford to pay $200 every other month to fix this issue!!

Body has rusted thru on multiple occasions on my car. Both rear doors rusted beyond repair, and needed to be replaced. Both front doors rusted thru and were repaired. Now rust holedeveloped in the engine compartment in area of hood hinge. This is a structurally reinforced area of the car but only a patch was put over rust hole to make repair. This work was all done under warranty. I contend that the last repair was not properly done, and that the car is unsafe. Hyundai denies my claim. The car was looked at by the dealers own body shop and they claim that the area under the dashboard is all rusted and will cost nearly $10000to repair. Hyundai claims the car is not defective, even thought there are internal spots where no coatings were applied to the steel. I contest that the company is only protecting themselves and have full knowledge that the car is defective. The warranty will expire shortly and then , they will be off the hook for any future repairs caused by their negligence while assembling their vehicle. The vehicle was purchased new at coastal hyundai, which also owns cocoa hyundai.

Reached to open back passenger door and it fell in pieces in my hand. This will be the second timethis happened to me the first time costing me $125.0. Iretired a.could months aback and cannot afford this but i feel it's.

Went to open outside passenger back door - outside door handle fell off.went to open outside driver's door - outside door handle fell off.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that both rear door handles fell off the vehicle. Also, the driver side door handle was becoming loose. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the vehicle needed new handles. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,000. .. *dt

The door handles keep breaking off.two years ago the the back passanger side door handle came off in my hand without any indication, there was no snapping sound just a door handle not attached to the door.we paid out of pocket and got this fixed since it is unsafe since emergency help would not have access to the back seat if the passengerswere incapacitated.then today the back driver's side door handle came off in my hand without any warning. We are once again going to pay out of pocket to have this fixed since it is unsafe if there is an accident and emergency responders would not be able to get to anyone in the back seat, including children.excessive force was not used (barely any pressure was used), no sounds accompanied the breakage, and there was no damage to the door previously.there was no legitimate reason for the door handles to break.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that he attempted to open the rear passenger's side door and the handle detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the entire handle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,000.

I purchased the car in february 2016 and almost immediately 1 door handle came off, since then i have had 1 more to come off and 1 is just hanging on so i do not touch it. Unfortunately that is the driver's side door. I am constantly climbing over my seats or attempting to open from another door just to get inside the vehicle. This is totally unacceptable and especially frustrating when i have my grandchildren car seats in the back. I can not afford to keep replacing door handles and the only ones available do not match car color. After searching i see that this was a problem before i purchased my car. I can not honestly recommend this vehicle to anyone for the fact that you need to be able to get inside just to test drive and the door handle might possibly come off. The car runs fine but i would like immediate replacements for door handles so that i can get inside the car correctly and without having to climb over other seats especially in the rain.

4 of my door handles have fallen off.i have had 3 replaced when it was under warranty but the 4th driver door they told me they would not replace since it was out of warranty.i had to use a zip tie to open the door to get in it.

Both handles on the rear doors came off within a two week period without any extraordinary effort or abuse.in both cases the vehicle was stationary and in park.attached are photos of both door handle locations, one side without the handle (driver's side) & the second with the handle held in place with duct tape (passenger side).neither door is accessible from the outside, rendering it unfit to transport any passengers in the back seat.regardless of the number of passengers, this is clearly a safety issue (in an emergency, it wouldn't be possible to remove either the driver or front seat passenger through the rear doors.)the third photo shows the current odometer reading of 49,205, which is less than 25,000 miles more than when i purchased the vehicle from a hyundai dealer.

All four outside door handles have broken off or are not functioning leaving the only way into the car is to leave window down to open from inside or crawl through the trunk of the car to open doors from the inside.all handles broke when the door was in the process of being open.the vehicle was stationary and were brokenduring the past 6 months. The car has 80,000 miles.

Since august 2010, i have had three exterior door handles brake off. This has to be a manufacture default. One breaking is believable. But, three is unacceptable.

I bought the car in november of 2009. The car is a 2010 sonata. Since i have purchased the car i have had to replace 3 exterior door handles. The dealer covered the first on but i had to pay the other 2. Because i drive long distances and my car is out of warranty. What does high mileage have to do with door handles.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the front driver's side exterior door handle detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to wallace hyundai (3801 se federal hwy, stuart, fl) all 4 of the door handles was replaced. The contact indicated that the failure occurred on all four exterior door handles since owning the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000.

The driver side from door handle fell off when trying to open the door.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the dashboard fractured due to defective material causing the front passenger side air bag to be exposed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 76,537.

Driver's side door handle just popped off for no reason!!!!

I purchased a used 2010 hyundai sonata gls.one year ago with 60,000 miles on it.in this time i have had 3 different plastic door handles break off when trying to open the car doors.each incident costing me $200.00. For a total of $600.00. With no reimbursement from hyundai. They said it wasn't a problem and were not responsible. There should be a recall on this.

I had to replace the driver & passenger door handles.had to get switch to open gas tank repaired.when fueling car, pump continuesly stops when tank is not full.

The above incident that i'm reporting is the second door handle to break on this vehicle. The first incident was the driver door handle which broke sometime in 2012. The outer handles just break and cannot be used to open the door. The door can be opened from the inside. Just yesterday, 5-5-2014, the rear passenger door handle on the driver side also broke in the same manner. The first two were covered by the warranty, which i'm told expired at 60,000 miles. My car has 68,000 miles now. So a total of three door handles has broken, one to go. It is repairable, but there is a 3 to 4 week wait, for the parts, for it to get painted than get installed.with all the complaints i have read on the internet, this problem should be recalled and metal door handles be installed.

I have had three exterior door handles brake off the door on three different occasions..the entire handle broke off upon getting to get into the car. One handle broke while under warranty, the other two broke on may 5, 2019. And june 22, 2019.

Three exterior door handles have come off in the past two years. Two came off in passenger's hands (gentle pull) and one fell off the car at unknown time. The car had only about 62,500 miles on it when the last one came off.

3 outside door handles fell off my car while it was under warranty.the last one, the drivers door, has just now fallen off, out of warranty.question - why did the one with the most use fall off last? hyundai 800-633-5151 refuses to take action on the 4th replacement.this obviously warrants a recall because something is defective with every one.

The outer door handles are weak and break off easily. This vehicle has had three broken handles, and the fourth one is about to break. It happens when you try to open the door. My concern is that in the event of an accident, the handle might break off when emergency responders try to open the door, delaying or preventing needed help. Research shows that this is a very common problem with these vehicles.

As many people have stated online, the door handles falling off are a common occurrence. I have had to replace two handles on my car already, first my rear drivers side and now the front passenger side. The commonality of this problem clearly indicates a major engineering issue on the behalf of the manufacturer and customers should not be made to pay for repairs for a manufacturing issue. Each handle has cost me just under $65 to replace.

Both door handles on the drivers side of my 2010 are broken. Went to open door and latches gave away.

Outside rear driver door handle comes off for no reason it just broke off and i am not the only one . This could be a potential safety issue. In the event off an accident this could pose great danger to anybody trying to exit the vehicle. If the door handle brakes with child look door cannot be opened.

Upon attempting to enter vehicle at driver's door, door handle came off in hand and door could not be opened by normal means.

Within the last several weeks, 2 of the 4 exterior door handles have broken off in my hand.the vehicle was stationary in both cases.in the normal course of opening the door, the door handle broke and the door would not open.

On 12/2016 my passenger exterior door handle broke while loading my vehicle at sams club. On 11/2017 my driver side exterior door handle broke as i was getting it for work. This meant i needed to climb into the driver's seat from the back of the car. I did get it fix paying $170 for the drivers side and also a rental car. I still need to fix the passenger side. Hyundai needs to recall this problem because ems will not be able to get into my car thus making the broken handles a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that she attempted to open the rear passenger's side door and the handle disconnected from the door. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repair and the failure recurred with the front drivers side door. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

Today the third door handle has broken on my hyundai sonata in six year. This is a very common problem. Stay away from this make and model.

2010 hyundai sonata. The rear passenger driver side door handle just snapped off.i went to open the door in a normal fashion and the handle stayed in the open position so i had to push it back in to the closed position. When i pulled on the handle again the handle fell off in my hand.the rear door never did open, now i need to reach through the driver side door to open the rear door from the inside.

Last month, the door handle to the door behind the driver seat was broken. When i tried to open my door, it did not open. That is in the picture attached. On saturday, i opened my driver's door and the door handle broke in my hand. Now i have only tow doors that i can open. I looked online and many people are having issues with the hyundai sonata. I feel like customers should not pay for this because this a known safety issue. When this happened, my car was parked. I am going to hyundai to get this repaired because i am scared that i will not be able to get in my car if all the handles gets like this.

In november 2012, hyundai of auburn replaced my driver's side back door handle after it had come off.in november 2014, capitol hyundai (montgomery) replaced my passenger's front side door handle after it had come off.in each instance, the dealer did not provide me with paperwork documenting that the work had been done.

Suspension seems to be very hard while going over any bumps. Feels like there are no suspensions mechanisms at all.

When we first purchased this car in 2010, a door handle fell off in the first couple ofmonths. Hyundai replaced it free of charge. Fast forward to 2019. Car has only 45,000 miles and in the span of 2 weeks, the exterior rear right passenger and the driver side handles came off. This occurred when opening the doors. While we have a 10 year/100,000 warranty, hyundai will not honor replacing the defect. Estimated repairs are near $500. This is obviously a safety issue with the driver's side inoperable and requiring driver to climb into car. We see many online complaints regarding this issue and are disappointed with hyundai for not standing behind their product. We purchased this car because of reliability and trust and went on to purchase 2 more hyundai vehicles. We keep our cars for a long time - up to 200,000 miles and have never had handles fall off.

Driver back door handle broke off.this appears to be a common complaintbut the dealer won't fix the handle.the backdoor is not even used much.

The driver side exterior door handle broke off this morning when i tried to open the door.i am the original owner of this vehicle, and this is the third time that this breakage has occurred, albeit on three different doors. Although the interior door latch still works, this is a safety hazard as it would be impossible for rescue services to open the driver's doorfrom the outside in the event of an accident.based on postings i have come across on the internet, it appears that this is a common problem with hyundai sonatas and should in my mind qualify as a recall.

In the last 2 years, i have had all 4 of the door handles break off in someone's hand, when attempting to open the door.i have had 2 of them replaced already, costing about $150 - 200 each.at this time, both of my rear door handles are broken off.

On two separate occasions while the car was stationary, the door handles of the front passenger and left rear doors came off in my hand while opening the doors.i was then unable to open the door to let my elderly passenger out of the car.

Driver front door handle fell off in my hand.2 weeks layer same thing happened on passage front door.imagine if this happened to a parent who needed to get child out of car quickly.hyundai acknowledgedthat this is a defect in design.should be recalled.

This 2010 hyundai sonata obviously has a door handle defect that needs to be corrected as i have read about this problem in numerous complaint forums. In 2014, my front passenger door handle broke and fell off upon normal use. That was fixed by the dealership as it was still under warranty. Now, my driver's side door handle has broken (again, under normal usage) and cannot be opened from the outside. I only have 66,000 miles on this car, to date, and problems like this should not be occurring so soon. Hyundai should recall this model and fix the problem!

One night, without using force, the front passenger handle on my 2010 hyundai sonata came off while parked on a flat. The driverʻs side, outside, backdoor handle came off after college class, a month or so later, while parked, when a classmate attempted to open the door, again not using excessive force. A few weeks later, the passengerʻs side, outside, backdoor handle came off when i went to retrieve my groceries while parked, also not using excessive force. Which stopped the use of this vehicle for a road test and getting my safety check. All 3 handles i had to pay way too much for and had to pay to have them fixed just so i could get my safety check before the end of the month (4/30/2016), and now can be used for a road test. Ridiculous prices for hollow plastic handles. I hope these new handles last as long as i own this vehicle! and harder for me because i live in hawaii. The prices we have to pay for living/driving in paradise is crazy!! but to hear this year, make, model has more issues i have to worry about from reading them on this site is nuts!! is there a recall on this vehicle/ in hawaii?

The second exterior door handle fell off.

The door handle came off when trying to open the door.

Driver's side front door handle fell off in hand. In august 2014, passenger front door handle fell off. No excessive force used in either incident.

"takata recall"sonata door handles break for no reason. In an emergency, first responders would be unable to open the doors to evacuate passengers.this has happened to 3 of my 4 doors: car is parked. I unlock car with key in door. I push unlock button. Doors unlock. Passenger uses outside handle, but handle does not respond. Door handle is broken inside the door.car has always been parked in driveway or parking lot when this happens. No one has jerked the handle or pulled on it roughly when it broke. In all three instances a simple lift on the handle and it broke.

The drivers side rear door handle came off in my hand a year ago.now the driver side front door handle did the same thing.

I attempted to open my unlocked left rear door and the plastic door handle broke off in my hand.now i cannot open this door from the outside.- on 02/10/2014 at 1200 pm- approximately 30 degrees f- no force of any kind used, the pull handle just broke off from the linkage which locks my rear door please give me a confirmation number.thank you

One by one all four door handles broke off. Is unsafe to drive as doors are unsecured.

Door handles ccs me right off. Had to replace all of them

The following paragraph was sent to hyundai to request they fix this defect. They responded with a wordy but polite "we're sorry, but your vehicle is out of warranty".we have a 2010 sonata. About 18 months ago, the passenger side front door handle fell off while opening the door. We took it to the local dealer for repair. The cost was about $70. Three weeks ago (approx. 1/15/2015), the driver side rear handle fell off. Ten days ago (approx 1/27/2015) the passenger rear door handle fell off. The dealer wants $150 each to repair them. I can understand one handle breaking, but not (on a car less than 5 years old) three of the four handles have broken. I consider this a defect. I have researched your site and have not been able to find any matching complaints. There have been numerous, but normal problems with this vehicle - all of which we have repaired at our own expense without complaint.however, this particular issue is so egregious that we feel the manufacturer should be held responsible for the repairs.

Door handles fall off.i have replaced 3 of 4 handles so far.rear drivers side replaced but is not opening now.drivers door opens sometimes and sometimes not.this occurs when the vehicle is stationary.it costs $140 per unit.

I am the only driver of a 2010 hyundai sonata. I rarely use any of the doors except the driver door. I recently went to open the back door, driver side and the door handle came off in my hand. It seems this is a wide spread issue with this model.

After reading several other owners complaints about the handles breaking on the 2010 sonata i too am filing a complaint. So far we have had 2 door handles break when attempting to open the door to load/ and unload groceries.the first one was replaced by the dealer and now we face this problem again. I feel there is a structural defect with the materials that needs to be addressed. This should not be happening to so many people and hyundai needs to address this and fix peoples failing equipment/ handles at no expense to the owners.

The driver side front door handle fell off as i opened the door.since then, three other handles have fallen off, the right rear and the left rear.

I replaced the passenger side rear door handle a month ago because it broke off when i was opening the door to let my child out and now the driver side rear door handle broke off when i was opening the door for my child. Very dangerous as i was in both instances helping my young child out of the car. This is a safety recall issue. In my driving years, which spans 34 year and countless vehicles, i have never had a door handle malfunction let alone break off. I have owned ehicles for 13-15 years typically and had no instances of door handle malfunctioning or breaking off. The repair costs $130 or so for each door handle, but more important is my lack of confidence that it may happen again and it may be an emergency situation. Nhtsa please ensure hyundai is held accountable and required to design a fix for this issue and offer a refund to already repaired door handles.

I've had to replace 3 door handles, transmission, lick seat belt, sunroof motor, since buying this car. It is 9 years old and the seals on the doors are going bad. Air and pests are getting in the car. And the noise level is horrible. I was told 2 weeks ago that the rattling i keep hearing is the universaljoints and frame and will cost about $1000 to fix. Car was ok until it just hot 100000 mile mark.

This has happened to at least 3 hyundai sonata 2010 autos of people i know.when attempting to open the door to enter the car the door handle just comes off in the persons hand.in my wifes case luckely she was on our driveway and fell backward onto grass and was not injured.if this happened to someone parked on a busy street they could fall back into traffic.in looking at the detached handle it looks like the poor quality plastic interior just cracked.as i said this has happened to three people just in my circle of friends so i am sure it is more widespread.

Handles keep falling off in my hand when opening doors. This is at least the fourth time since l have this car. Read some other complaints on your website, sounds like defective part issue to me. Last ,time dealer charged me $90.00 to repair and it fell off next day. Now rear passenger fell off. I am 75 years old, need doors to open and close, very scary.is that too much to ask of a $23,000 car?

I have a hyundai 2010 and in one years time both rear door handles have broken off. I am in the process of repairing the second one and the first cost me $160. Not only is this an inconvenience when trying to get my children out, but this is a huge safety risk if there ever were an accident. This should be recalled and i would be looking for a refund.

Went to open door and handle came off in my hand. I didn't even pull very hard and didn't hear anything crack or break.

The rear driver-side door handle fell off the vehicle; the plastic used to attach the handle to the interior portion of the mechanism simply broke inside the door -- no damage had been done prior to the handle and it was not used harshly. The passenger-side front door handle has become very loose and the plastic on the inside of the door handle appears to be cracking.

Rear drive side door handle fell off. The door was not being opened, it just fell off on to garage floor. We have no kids and this door gets used only occasionally. The failure is in the area of the part that has an extended hook which pulls the internal door latch to release the door lock. The point of failure is a clean sheared surface approximately half way along this extended hood feature. Microscopic exam of the failure interface indicates approximately 50% weld/knit lines observed over the cross-section. Strong possibility that this is a manufacturing defect related to injection molding. Door can not be opened from the outside without using some tool work around and depending on the conditions this can result in a safety concern.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that exterior plastic door handles were defective and that the rear driver's side door handle was fractured. The vehicle was not taken to dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 83,000.

Passenger side rear door handle was broken (tear off) when my 11 year old kid opened the door while it is in my garage. Looks like to me door handles made with inferior material. I would like to bring this issue to your notice. Hyundai should replace the parts and labor at free of cost. I have preserved the broken door handle part.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while attempting to open the rear driver's side door, the handle became detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 68,000.

I have experienced three (3) broken outside door handle breaking the same way from stress fracture where the plastic door handle contacts the metal latch.it appears the plastic door handle is too brittle for intended use.the broken door handles were replaced as follows:-rear right side door handle was replaced jan 16, 2012-rear left side door handle was replaced dec 21, 2013-driver's door handle replaced dec 1, 2014i contacted hyundai customer care and they do not appear to be concerned that this is a safety issue and are treating this as normal wear and tear.a broken door handle fails hawaii state safety inspection as the door cannot be opened from the outside.hawaii is not subject to extreme temperature changes.i do not believe this is normal wear and tear as i experienced door handle failure as soon as 2 years of use with the least used door handles, rear passenger doors breaking before the most used driver?s door handle.there are numerous same failures reported on the internet.my hyundai dealer now has these door handles in stock (used to have to order them in) and told me this is a common occurrence of my model sonata and to report my concerns to hyundai usa, which i did to no avail.maybe they will listen to the nhtsa.please help.thank you.

The door locking system is erratic.in addition the window up and down mechanism works inconsistently.

I went to open my left rear door and the handle broke off in my hand. I do not even use this door on a regular basis and i can barely lift a 10 pound weight so i know i was not exerting extreme force. This is a major safety issue because if someone was trapped inside of the car someone on the outside could not help them out. It is $150+ to have each door handle replaced. Many people have been having this same issue with multiple door handles breaking so now i'm just sitting here waiting for another one to break.

Opened rear left door and handle came off.

Passenger-side front door handle fell off- no accident or outside impact.

Door handle broke off. Rear passenger door handle broke off without any wear and tear

Door handles fall off. They've already been replaced 8 times in the last 3 years. I have now lost two more handles which at 58$ a piece, i am becoming frustrated that i cannot get in my car quickly god forbid something happens, nor get to my baby in the back seat quickly as i have to roll down the windows, run around the vehicle to open the door. I have seen 2011 hyundai sonatas recall the handles, however mine is a 2010 and this should be replaced by hyundai as it has become a nuisance.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the front and rear driver's side door handles became fractured. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

Door handle breaks. Passenger side door handle is rarely use, maybe once a week at the most on average. The front passenger side broke and was fixed under warranty. Now the rear passenger side also broke.

In the last three months, both driver's side door handles have fallen off/broken. In the first incident (sept 2020), the driver's side rear door handle broke off the car when i tried to open the door. In the second incident (nov 2020), the driver's side front door handle remained on the car but broke so that it no longer functions. Both incidences occurred when the vehicle was stationary. It is unknown why the door handles broke; i did not use excessive force nor was there any indication of a problem prior to these incidences.

Approximately a year ago my passenger door handle just broke off i called dealer to seeif there was a recall notice on that and there was none , now on 5/24/2014 my driver side door handle broke off i now i am not the only going threw this issue please help us this is wrong and need to be corrected. Thanks

Have had all 4 outer door handles break off of vehicle.

Rear passenger door handle (exterior) broken - february 2020.all 4 door handles have broken on this car between 2015-2020!hyundai paid for the first 1 but for the 2nd and 3rd told me, essentially, "too bad, door handles break."apparently they do on 2010 hyundai sonata's as there are many complaints online and all 4 door handles broke on my car.that is ridiculous.i expect hyundai to cover this one.the car has 66k miles on it.it does not get heavy use.the first 5 years, i took public transportation to work, then started working from home.there is no reason for the passenger side handles to break.the driver's door handle got normal use; nothing excessive or unusual.

Both rear door handles broke off. Both handles broke in the same place weeks apart from each other. The car was in park. I was opening the door like normal with no excessive force on both handles. How can i get my children out of the car in an emergency when the handles break off? especially when the child lock is engaged. The door won't open from the inside or out. Will hyundai wait until children die to act on this complaint?

Exterior door handles have broken 6 times on several doors.hhtsa may feel this is cosmetic but emergency personal may have difficulty making entry in an emergency situation. According to my mechanic, he sees this in more 2010 hyundai's than any other vehicle.simple web search found 100s of other complaints.at one point, 3 of 4 of my handles were broke at once. Average price to fix one door is $250. There should be a recall for this!

Within a period of about 6 months, three of the four door handles have fallen off, including two that came off within two weeks of each other.this occurred when the vehicle was stationary.the handles hadn't been previously damaged or involved in any accidents, and we don't treat them roughly.the handles have fallen off the front driver's side and both rear doors.the rear driver's side door is almost never used, so i'm disinclined to attribute the problem to wear and tear.when the rear passenger door handle came off, the plastic snapped apart.we paid to have that handle replaced by the dealer.the rear driver door handle, which came off two weeks ago, remained intact, but a triangular metal piece came out when the handle fell away.the front driver's side door handle came off today when my husband had the car, so i haven't seen its condition.since his key fob no longer works, he now has to get into the car is by climbing in the front passenger side.given that we've lost three handles in so short a time, it appears the parts are inferior and have reached the end of their life.

Exterior door handles are breaking off when used to enter the vehicle.vehicle was stationary in my driveway. Thus far, the drivers side rear and the passenger side fronthandles have broken off. Vehicle mileage was in the 75k to 78k mile range. I am reading that this is a very common problem on this vehicle and that it is an expensive repair (estimated $200). I believe that this is a safety problem as entry to the vehicle in an emergency is compromised.

When opening the passenger door, the door handle came off in my hand. Seems that this is a common problem with this car. Hyundai replaced it under the warranty but what happens then? in case of an accident, emergency personnel may have to evacuate someone from the car. They should be able to open any door.

Our 2010 hyundai sonata's outside door handle just fell off right in my hand.i researched online and found that this is a common complaint with the 2010 model.this should be considered a safety hazard and a recall should be issued by the manufacturer.if we are in a car accident and the handle falls off the person that is trying to help us this is a safety issue.all we were doing was trying to open the door to get my son out of his car seat and it fell off right in our hands.unacceptable.

Door handles on my 2010 hyundai sonata have fallen off.the door handles are the driver door and the rear passenger door.there was no excessive use or force on them.the just break off.this is unsafe if i get into an accident as it will make it tough to get people out in an emergency.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the front driver's side and both rear door handles were fractured. The contact stated that the interior and exterior plastic door handles were defective. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but was not repaired. The failure mileage was unavailable.

After parking i reached to open the back drivers side door to get something out of the back seat and the handle broke off in my hand.

I have had 3 separate occurrences where the exterior door handles have come off while opening the doors.i fixed two of them at my own cost and now have to repair a 3rd. I have contacted hyundai about a recall and they say there haven't been enough incidences of this to recall it.i have searched the web and have found many complaints of this happening to others.i have contacted hyundai again and they sent me a form letter response that they are not at fault.i am amazed that there has not been a recall on the door handles. If you search your data base of complaints, i am sure you will agree.there response:dear [xxx]: thank you for contacting hyundai motor america. We are sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with the handles on your 2010 sonata. Your satisfaction is our priority and we appreciate that you took the time to share your comments with us.we try to design and equip all of our models with materials and features that will appeal to our current and potential customers. Some of the factors that are evaluated during vehicle design and productions include demand, safety, durability, efficiency, comfort, convenience and aesthetics. We are sometimes unable to produce an automobile with the features and material that will satisfy or appeal to all of our customersmy response backyour comments are hollow and without any responsibility to the quality of your parts. "we are sometimes unable to produce an automobile with the features and material that will satisfy or appeal to all of our customers" i didn't realize that the door handles falling off of a car is a "feature". Is that a standard feature or an upgrade? i am sorry but i will be forced to communicate my dissatisfaction to all that will listen. You offer no value with your words and no help with the cost of repair. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Both of the rear passenger door handles broke off of the doors within two weeks of each other, under normal use. At the time of the incident, my wife's 2010 sonata had just over 78,000 miles on the odometer, just over the 75000 bumper to bumper warranty. I contacted the service department at the dealership on two separate occasions, and was told that the handles were not covered under warranty and that my best option would be to contact hyundai america to seek a resolution. I did that and opened a case with them. After providing information on the vehicle, i was told that there was no recall for the components and none was being considered.i believe that this is a major safety concern for the vehicle if a rescue attempt had to be made. Not to mention that this is a terrible inconvenience, since we have two small children and have to find other ways of accessing the passenger seats other than with the doors. The handles are made of plastic, and i believe would be prone to yet another breakage if replaced with factory parts. This in my opinion, if faulty engineering and workmanship on the part of hyundai.

My door handle on passenger will not open from the outside i have to get in on drivers side and open from inside.my drivers side door will not lock i had to open my drivers side door from back seat because it would not open when i mashed the door opener on remote.

Ok, i am another 2010 sonata owner with repeated door handle breaking and detaching from the car issue. My uncle owned the car since new and gave it to me on 11/9/15. While his, he had to replace 3 door handles, one of which was the front passenger door. Yesterday, (10/15/16) the front passenger door handle broke off again. Originally, all the handle breaks were covered under warranty, including the front passenger door handle. Now, the car has 81,182 miles on it. But it should be covered because it has been replaced before.you are aware, there are numerous complaints about this issue and hyundai should be made to recall all these cars and rectify this ongoing issue. It is a safety issue indeed. In a crash, emergency personnel could not enter the car, should it be on it's side and the exposed doors have broken handles.there are complaints on here citing 2 or more handles broken at the same time. My uncle is single and soam i. The passenger doors on this car are not, have not, been used that often as i seldom have passengers.it is unspeakable that hyundai should be able to get away with this.again this is a safety issue that deniesentrance to the car in an emergency. Please do not turn a deaf ear tothousands of car owners with this concern. Thank, you

Car purchased june 2016. 17,000 mi. Three months later the rear passenger door handle fell off. Within six months the rear drivers side handle fell off then the front passenger door handle fell off. This happened while the car was parked. Hyundai wants $350.00 for each handle. I can no longer have passengers in my car it is unsafe. My fear is my driver's side door handle will fall off. I am 70 and too old to climb thru the trunk. If this isn't a recall it should be. I can file a complaint with the bbb if necessary. The car was parked when the handles fell off.

Plastic exterior door handles break, come loose, and then can not open the door. 3 door handles now.

The exterior door handles fractured on the front driver side door while opening the door in the morning of 6/20/14 at around 6:40 am while the car was in parking and the engine wasn't started.the door wouldn't open from the outside, but opens from the inside.

The passenger side door handle fell off in my hands. No force was used and no noise was made (ie: cracking or and other pieces were seen that fell off other then the handle itself). This door and the rear doors are very rarely used,i have no kids and am the only 1 that uses this car and very rarely have any passengers. The driver's side is the one i open regularly. I called hyundai dealership where i got the car and they claim there are no recalls are on this despite knowing of other's who hadmultiple doors break in a similar fashion and seeing many other incidents of this reported on nhtsa site. They didn't seem to care either or record the information of this issue. In checking hyundai dealership's are charging between $200 to $300 to repair the door handle. This is a safety issue if someone cannot get into the car to rescue someone or if they are trying to retrieve a child. In reading the other complaints i hope my other 3 don't break now and i'm on the hook to repair those out-of-pocket to. This is obviously shoddy workmanship. In all my years/multiple cars i never had a car door handle break. Its very cheap plastic.

I have had numerous issues of continually broken door handles for my 2010 hyundai sonata. Three of the four handles have broken since 2012 and one has broken twice.to date i have visited two dealerships at 8 times in total for these handles breaking. I was told by the service technicians that there is a plastic piece inside the handle as well as end cap that keeps breaking.invoices are available upon request.

I went to open the rear door and the handle came off. Appears to be broken since i'm being told by hyundai gurnee service that it has to be replaced.

Front passenger door handle broke off while opening door to enter the vehicle.went on-line to research repair.found that this is a very common problem on all 4 doors of this vehicle.subsequent failures on other handles tend to happen within months of one-another.doors that are infrequently used also have the problem.this poses a serious safety issue when removing an infant, sick, or injured person from the vehicle during an emergency.the handles are made of plastic.the inner front of the handle has a plastic pivot which snaps off, causing the handle to fall off in the hand of the person opening the door.

Door handles easily snapped off and sensor went out fuel tank. This happening on all cars i have 5 co workers same vehicles all have same promblem this should be fixed we cant enter in rear of car without getting in front to open both back doors

Two exterior door handles, one on the front passenger side and one on the rear driver's side broke off in my hand. This happened within a couple of hours of each other.

Outside door handles just fall off. My driver and passenger side door handles both came off with barely touching them.

Driver side door handle fell off upon opening it....driver side passenger fell off 3 weeks ago and that door gets opened maybe once or twice a week..

Door handle on the outside of the front passenger door broke off when a passenger went to open the door to get in the vehicle while parked on a city street.appears to be made of cheap brittle plastic.was opened normally without excess force.vehicle has not even had very many front seat passengers in its service life thus far.a clear safety issue should someone need to get into the car quickly. No excuse for such shoddy materials/engineering design.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that when she opened the driver's door, the exterior door handle became fractured. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 66,000.

"handle issue" my vehicle has around 74k miles on it and so far every handle has broken off in the winter.after the first handle broke i was more careful during the winter on opening the doors.this is not a cheap fix.

Exterior door handles break and doors cannot be opened from outside vehicle. In an accident situation, rescue personnel would not be able to gain easy access to render aid. Both front door handles have broken and now a rear door!no warning and hyundai doesn't acknowledge defect. Numerous reports of same problem on internet. Handle simply breaks when opening door. Apr-oct 2016

Driver side door exterior door handle came off when attempting to open door.handle parts are plastic!cannot open door from the outside now.bought new, now under 38k miles, and less than 5 years in use.contacted hyundai national, have not heard back yet.dealers indicate that this may not be covered under warranty.

Hyundai sonata 2010 - the rear, driver side door handle detached from the car, without warning, when attempting to open the door.the vehicle was stationary and parked in front of a house when the incident occurred.a standard amount of door opening force was applied to the handle when attempting to open the door.the damage appears to have occurred with a weakened or defective clip that connects the door handle to the opening mechanism inside of the door.

Hyundai sonata 2010 - the front, driver side door handle detached from the car, without warning, when attempting to open the door.the vehicle was stationary at the time that the incident occurred.a standard amount of door opening force was applied to the handle when attempting to open the door.the damage appears to have occurred with a weakened or defective clip that connects the door handle to the opening mechanism inside of the door.this is the second door handle on the driver's side that has detached from the vehicle, without warning leaving only 2 functional door handles on the vehicle.

As i was trying to get into my car at 7:20 am on 02/24/15 the driver side door handle just fell off the door. The temperature was below zero and it was a surprise to see that happen to a 5 year old car!!!! i called the dealership to see if there is a recall or problem they know of regarding the door but turned with nothing. Then searched online to see if there are anyone else had the same problem and to my surprise they are other people who had similar incidents in several states as well a youtube video of an individual lost 3 handles in california for a newer model sonata!!!!!! called the hyundai warranty but had to leave a message!!!!!

Right front door handle broke off while standing still under normal use when my 15-year old son opened it. Not covered by warranty as 60k had passed and dealer would not cover.i had dealer replace handle. Five months later, left rear door handle broke off when my 13-year old daughter opened it while getting in car. Both events happened under normal use but standing still. This could pose a safety hazard if it causes the door to open while the car is moving. I contend that there is a design defect in that the door handle is not designed sturdy enough (it is plastic), and hyundai should fix and recall.

Driver's exterior door latch broke into two when driver attempted to open door withhand to enter the car.the door had been unlocked via remote control.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the exterior rear driver side door handle fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 80,000.

Over the period of less than one year all four exterior door handles have broken off when the door was opened!this began in the fall of 2014 when the car was 3.5 years old. The first two handles to break were the left side handles (within one week of each other) ... Which for us were the most used door and the least used door. We are certain that these handles broke due to a defect, and not due in any part to us.

Takata recall...i have a complaint on the paint on my car.i have never had a problem with paint on a car like this one.it seemed to be so cheap that even a sticking tape will rip off the paint.

On vacation, my husband attempted to open the left rear passenger door and the handle fell off in his hand.i took the plastic handle and inside plastic parts to the dealer to repair.was told that the handle was not covered under manufacturers warranty and the cost to replace was $238.00.reading the other incidents reported to nhtsa, it is obvious that what happened to me is not an isolated incident and needs to be addressed by hyundai.i have had many cars with plastic handles, none of which have fallen off in my hand in 45 years of driving!i am concerned that having hyundai replace the handle with the same parts will not solve the problem, as other people have had them replaced only to break again...or other handles will come off.this is not only an extreme inconvenience but could potentially be a safety hazard as anyone stuck in a hyundai sonata is not accessible with that door in case of accident, fire etc.

The passenger front door handle broke off. See multiple problems with this on line with this model and year.

The driver side exterior door handle snapped and broke when i attempted to open my door. This is the second time this happened. The first time was approx. 8 months ago; when the passenger door handle did the same thing.

Two door handles have broken off my 2010 sonata while just attempting to open them.according to hyundai this is not covered by the warranty as they claim it is normal wear and tear. I could see if it was just one door handle but for two to come off days of each other i find it more of a defect than wear and tear.reading some hyundai owner forums i have found this appears to be a normal occurrence with their product and feel it is a safety issue as i travel with kids on a daily basis and god forbid they would be locked in the vehicle because i could not open the door due to the handle being in my hand instead of the door.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the rear driver and passenger's side door handles became became disengaged. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

The drivers side rear outside door handle has broken off by just pulling the handle.

Car door handles braking off. 2/14 left front door handle 5/15 right front door handle broke 5/15 driver rear door handle broke. 4/16 frontright door passenger again broke. Now 10/16 rear passenger door handle broke.... This needs to be recalled or fixed by dealer no charge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i do not have childrenand rarely even use back door the plastic is cheap and crumbles. Dealer want $250 to fix . This needs to be repaired without charge or start using better quality parts

Upon attempting to enter vehicle at passenger side door, door handle came off in hand and door could not be opened by normal means.

Vehicle was stationary (parked in driveway). The door handle (right rear) came off in my daughter's hand when she tried to gain access into the back seat.no one could get into the car throughthat door until the handle was fixed. When we reached our destination, she had to exit the vehicle using the left rear door.we notified global auto mall, the dealership where we bought the car, because i had paid extra when buying the car to get coverage for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Global auto mall told us the door handle was not a covered part of the warranty!moreover, they had to send the door handle out for a painting job.so we had to make another appointment with the dealer's repair department to have it fixed.

The outside rear door handles broke. One came off completely, the other is still attached but does not work. It will not open door.

Rear passenger exteriordoor handle came off when passenger shut the door after exiting the car.it appears the latch (closest to the key area ) is severed.

I own a 2010 hyundai sonata, which has never been in an accident and i have owned the vehicle since new. Since july 2013, i have had 3 door handles break off in my hand.i am a single person, that does not have continuous use of the passenger side front and rear handles or the driver side rear door.at this time, i have one door handle left on my car, which is the driver side andvery worried if this falls off, i will not be able to get into my vehicle.at this point, the vehicle is unsafe.if i had anyone in my vehicle and was in an accident, the rescue attendant would not be able to assist in getting people out.i have talked to the dealership service dept. And the hyundai customer care and was told because of mileage, i am out of warranty and hyundai will not cover the replacement of the door handles.because this is not a normal wear and tear issue, but i believe this is a manufacture defect of the door handles and a safety issue, hyundai should issue a recall.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. On several occasions, the door handles fractured and separated from the vehicle. The driver's side door handle was replaced. The contact also stated that the other door handles fractured and separated from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000. Updated 10/19/16*lj

I am filing a complaint regarding the door handles on hyundai vehicles. I drive a hyundai sonata and have had the door handle break off three separate times in my hand. When i have taken it in to get fixed, i am told that this is a common occurrence, they replace it with the same style handle and send me on my way. My concern with this, besides that it is a known defect that is not covered by the company, is that it is a safety issue. I have a young child in a carseat in my car with me almost always. If the door handles continue to break off, there is no way for me to enter the car from the outside and she is trapped inside the car in her carseat.

Rear door handle was pulled to open the rear door, door opened but the door handle broke where it connects inside the door and now it will not work.door can still be opened from the inside.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. While attempting to use the driver side interior door handle, the chrome split and created two razor sharp edges. As a result, the contact had three lacerations on his pointer finger, which did not require medical attention. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,007.

About a year ago the front passenger side door handle broke off.there was no extreme usage or force and no reason that the handle should have broken.yesterday, january 7, 2015 the same thing happened to the passenger side back door handle.again there was no extreme force and i rarely even carry passengers in my back seat.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the rear driver and passenger side door handles detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear passenger and driver doors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. While parked and attempting to enter the vehicle, the rear driver's side door handle fractured. Several days later, the front passenger door handle fractured. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the handles were replaced. The contact stated that the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the warranty had expired. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

Outside driver door handle broke and detached.

The contact mentioned that the rear passenger door failed to open when using the exterior or interior door handles. In addition, the front passenger side door failed to lock. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician verified the failure and replaced the door handles. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 95,000.

The door handles on my vehicle have broken without being excessively used. My front passenger side door handle broke off while my mother was getting into the vehicle. 3 months ago i opened the back driver side door to put in groceries and the handle broke. I am the sole user of the vehicle and i rarely have passengers in my car. The dealership charges $200 to repair it each time. I have researched other forums and others are having the exact same problem on the same model and year. It's a safety hazard for me because i have to go around to the other side of my car to put stuff in or take stuff out and in many cases i am in parking lots where this could be dangerous. Someone could easily push me out and/or if i am involved in an accident and have passengers, they wouldn't be able to get out through that door since it will not open from the outside nor the inside. This is getting ridiculous.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the door handle fractured on the front driver side of the vehicle. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 09v317000 (latches/locks/linkages), 09v171000 (latches/locks/linkages), and 10v070000 (latches/locks/linkages). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage and vin were not available.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the passenger side door handle detached from the vehicle without warning. Lester glenn hyundai (located at 386 rte 37 e, toms river, nj) confirmed the failure and recommended the door handle be replaced. The failure was repaired, but the driver and rear passenger doors experienced the same failure. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 85,000. The vin was not provided.

Door handle (exterior-front passenger) broken linkage; won't open door. This is the second handle that has failed due to defective linkage.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the driver and passenger side door handles detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to wallace hyundai (3801 southeast federal highway a, stuart, fl) where it was diagnosed that the driver and passenger side door handles needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The consumer stated purchased the door handle.

My door handles, right front, left and right rear has broken off in a 3 months time. There was no pulling hard, or handling the door handles rough. I have one door handle working properly and that is the driverside, if that one breaks, i have no way to get in my car, i went to the dealer near me and they want $460.00 to repair, place and paint. Am i under warranty, and the answer was no, my car has 68,000. Miles. How can you not recall, or cover a defect in a 2010 vehicle. I'm so afraid my driver handle is going to break, i am going to have to replace the handles myself if hyundai does not come up with a recall.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the exterior door handles fractured and detached from the doors. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the door handles were fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The dealer informed the contact that this issue was inherent to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 140,000.

This actually is the second time within 2 months that an outside door handle came off in our hands.this time it was the front passenger door and the first time it was the driver rear door..wevery seldom use this car except with a driver, so it is difficult to accept this failure.we are now holding our breath for the other handles to come off.the dealership isn't offering to accept ownership for repairing this.we have seen many other complaints for same.will not recommend this model to otherssince hyundai isn't being honest that this is a problem with their autos!

Cpsc:i1430249a. 2010 hyundai sonata. Consumer stated the internals of the door handles on the car are made of a brittle, inferior plastic instead of metal. *lnthe consumer stated the door handles could easily break off, leaving the occupants in the vehicle trapped, in the event of an emergency. Two of the door handles broke off in one day, on the consumers vehicle.

Door handles are breaking off on the back doors and the front handles are on the way out.

Driver door handle broke off. No one driving , no trauma, plastic broken . Was sitting in driveway.

Rear driver door handle just fell off the car when trying to open door.had to replace entire handle assembly.never had this ever happen in any car i have ever owned, and i have owned quite a few older cars.

I have had two other door handles serviced prior to this one. The drivers door is the one broken this time. The other two were the back door handles. This has all been within the last year and a half. This is ridiculous. I could have understood one. But three! the dealership here in st augustine, florida told me that since it was out of warranty, no recalls and it had been a rental car through the enterprise corp. Also, i had not brought the vehicle in to be serviced at a hyundai dealership... That i was going to be responsible. I have read the other complaints. This needs to be addressed. I had a car fax report done at the time i purchased the vehicle used. We only saw a few minor services. There was nothing on the car fax report to indicate a rental car or abusive actions of those leasing or renting the vehicle. He says people can be rough on door handles. I said i have owned several used cars and trucks. I have never had the door handles come off even after 12-14 years of driving them. I think they should fix there vehicles due to this problem.

On february 26th 2015, i walked out to my car to find that the front driver's side door handle had fallen off. This is the second door handle that has fallen off on my 2010 hyundai sonata. The first time was the rear driver's side handle on or around 12/23/2011 at 30,125 miles. Although this is an obvious safety concern and a problem that can be found through numerous complaints, hyundai has not recalled their door handles. This presents obvious safety concerns and despite numerous phone calls, hyundai claims that it is not under warranty and will not be covered. It is unacceptable to have handles falling off of cars for no apparent reason and hyundai should rectify this situation immediately.

When driving over uneven road, potholes, bumpy roads, etc., both front suspension system, emits a rumbling, knocking, like a lose part sound. On the highway it sometimes car becomes un-stable, and loses control. Car is only 21,000 miles, suspension seems like an old 100,000 miles car. Hyundai should be accountable for this defect, since it is life threatening issue.

Suspension seems to be very hard while going over any bumps. Feels like there are no suspensions mechanisms at all.

Sonata pulling to the left under normal driving. Performed wheel alignments 7 months ago, car ran fine for about 2 months. Online research indicates this model has a factory alignment issue.

Suspension and transmission faulty.

Twice the car was parked in the driveway.once it was going through an auto bell car wash. The passenger side front door completely came off about two years ago when my wife opened the door, as we were getting into the car.the entire handle came off in her hand.she opened the door the same as she normally does.we took it to the dealership and were told that there were no recalls.at the time we could not afford to get it fixed.six months ago while going through auto bell car wash the driver side rear door handle came loose and was no longer operational.now this evening i opened the rear passenger side door to take grocery's out of the car and the door opened. However when i went to close the door i noticed that the handle was protruding.i took a closer look and attempted to open the door.there is too much movement in the door handle and it is not opening the door.i now have 3 doors that are not usable.i am disabled and it is going to make life very difficult to put groceries and other items in the car.i do not know how i am going to afford to fix 3 doors since i couldn't afford to replace even one door.these doors are cheaply made and this should be corrected by hyundai.shame on hyundai for making such a poor product that is essential especially in today's world when needing to get into the car fast for safety reasons is imperative.if i wasn't disabled i could crawl inside to open the other doors, however i am not mobile enough to reach or climb to the back.luckily i can roll down the windows but what is going to happen if my windows ever fail.the interior door handles are not in the best locations either. This will be the last hyundai i buy and it's a shame just because of the cheap door handles.

On friday morning february 21, 2020 while traveling north on i75 the glass sunroof on my 2010 hyundai sonata flew off while traveling at around 65 miles per hour. I contacted my insurance and florida highway patrol. I am very concerned about this safety issue due to the same thing happened to my wife's 2010 hyundai santa fe, vin [xxx]. I will file a separate vehicle safety report on the santa fe.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The car is equip with child safety lock, i stop to let out a passenger on the driver side, and the door handle came off in my hand, went back to the dealer and was told that i would have to pay $400.00 to have it replace, look on line and the direct fit handlecost is only $34.00 the car is still under warranty, the handle is just a peace of poorly made plastic, the door cannot be open now.

I have had interior locks break. I have had to replace 3 door handles in a year an a half. They fall right off when pulling and break. Not excessively using them. Other sonatas have same problem. Hyundai will not do a thing. Very unsafe and $250 each time to fix. Cheap and faulty parts. Safety isdue for my 5 year old.

All but one door handles are broken. The driver side just broke and its a safety hazard.

This is on behalf of my elderly mother who s now had 2 different outside handles fall off upon trying to open the doors. Exact dates are unknown, but we'd estimate the 1st handle fell off early 2014 or even 2013--the back driver-side door. As so many others have reported here, it simply fell off in her hand without opening the door. She was told by the dealer there was no fix avl. From the mfr standpoint--and due to the prohibitive cost of nearly $200 to fix it, living on a fixed income, she's gone without this repair.the driver's door outside handle likewise fell off a short time later, which caused much more nuisance since she was required to get in the car on the passenger side and crawl across the front seat to the driver's side. Finding that difficult to say the least, she paid $182.63 to get that handle replaced at the dealer.aside from being a major nuisance, this could present a safety issue since in an accident or similar situation, it could cause a delay of several minutes for emergency responders to reach someone inside. In many decades, weve never had any other car door handles break-but with so many complaints about these handles, it seems hyundai must be using inferior products for these particular parts.could nhtsa consider forcing hyundai to replace these handles as part of a recalland perhaps even provide reimbursement for repairs already made? nhtsa just reported an "engine recall" this morning for this same hyundai model, along with several other model years, which will apparently result in engines needing to be replacedperhaps they could do a joint recall to fix both issues.although affected vin numbers are not "out" yet for that recall, when i saw there were already 17 other complaints just since january about this same door handle issue, we decided to add our voices. Thanks for your consideration.

The door handles are breaking

While driving the car died. I restarted and the check engine light and esc light came on. The car jerked a bit and the check engine light went off but the esc light off stayed on. After shutting off i started it the next day and the lights were off then after a while came back on. It is expensive to take to dealer to try something to see if it will fix the problem. Brakes jerky when applied.

My air conditioner ceased to function.a month and a half later the car ceased to start.i had to call for a tow.the air condition compressor froze the engine so that the car wouldn't start.

As i was driving on the freeway my car which was on cruise control. The car went from 60-50-40-30 within 30 seconds while it still said cruise control was on and the gas and brakes didnt work. I had to pull over to the side of the road. The electronics still work but the car no longer work and did not turn on. It seized while i was driving. No warning lights, no check engine light, no gas light, absolutely no warning before the car seized.

Two broken door handle the car was stationary and was going to open the door and the handles fall offfront and back doorshow to you think i can get into the car to get my children out. I am 58 years old and never had a door handle fall off

Driver side - outside door handle just fell off in hand.this is the 3rd handle that has fallen off in less than 4 years - when it does there is no way to open the door from the outside.you ask why it is a safety hazzard - when there is only one person and you go some where in the car - the only way you can get in is to open another door and release the broken handle door by the inside and then walk around and get in - this is not safe in parking lots at this day and time - by that time some one else can slide into the car with you - please look at how many people are having problems with this - most of us have had more that one break - this is way to many and the car manufacturer needs to do a recall and get this straight - a door handle that you use to get in and out of everyday (the hinge) being made out of plastic - to me if feel like they designed it to break

Passengerdoor handle fell off.3 months later other passenger handle fell off opening door.

All of my door handles are defected now the other 2 in the back door came offbroken from the inside of the door

The third door handle in a year has broken. Earlier this year, my drivers rear and passenger front door handles both broke in a weeks time. I contacted a local dealership, they told me it was a known problem but there was nothing they could was because hyundai didny recognize it as a safety recall.i contacted corporate, who agreed to replace the two.last week my drivers front door handle broken. Luckily i am physically able to crawl across the passenger seat as i wasn't at home and needed to get into my car. I once again contacted corporate who told me they wouldn't fix it as it is out of warranty and normal wear and year, and they already gave me two "good will" fixes. This is a safety issue. A 7 year old vehicle with 105k miles should not have 3 broken door handles. Researching online, many others have faced this issue. The fact the dealership admitted it was an issue as welllet's me know i'm not alone. The cost for a handle and to get it painted will be over $200. Hyundai needs to issue a recall. If there was an emergency, i would be trapped in my seat since a rescuer could not open my door from the outside

Engine failed would not start in less than 55200 miles

My car has accelerated at least 10 times in the last 3 years when you put your foot on the brake the car bolts forward and keep going. It is a intermit problem and last time i almost got seriously hurt. The car won't stop when you hit the brakes. It happens driving and parking.

Door handle broke off. The left rear door handle broke off. Car was in driveway, under normal use.this is my 5th or 6th one. Out of warranty - hyundai will not cover. Denies there is an issue, despite so many cases file. Costs $175 + paint to have fixed. There is clearly a defect in the design, and these door handles on sonata and many other models and years should be fixed and recalled.

The back passenger exterior door handle fell off while i attempted to open the door. The back doors are rarely used. This is a safety concern for passengers that may ride in the back seat in the event of an accident.

My 2010 hyundai sonota's door handles broke and were replaced on the passengers front and rear side by the previous owner a few days before we purchased the vehicle. They told us they were given a voucher from hyundai to replace the handles and this was done at the dealership. After purchasing the vehicle a third door handle broke on the rear drivers side. The dealer would not cover the repairs for the third handle. While trying to resolve the third handle breakage, a fourth handle broke on the passengers front door. Note that this passengers front door handle was replaced 5 months ago at the dealer. I would like these handles looked into as a safety issue and would like a recall to fix these hazardous door handles. I have a small child in a car seat and need to be able to open the door to get them out.

My wife and i purchased this vehicle new. The problem we have had in the last week is that the rear passenger out sise door handle just broke for no apparent reason. I figured this was somthing that just sometimes happens. I got on thd internet to buy a replacement and there are tons of peoplewith the same problem.so i thought this is a safety problem for anyone in the car in case of an accident. No one can get in the car to help if these door handles break off when someone is trying to rescue you. Last night my wife came home and said that her passenger door did the same thing. Two door handles broke off in less then one week. This car has only 34000 miles on it and i think there needs to be a recall on these handles.my wife has our gran children riding in the back at times and since these children our in car seats its imperative that if she has an accident or other emergency people can get in the car.

3 out of 4 of my door handles all broke within a year's time.the car runs great if only you could get into it!

Broken door handles. This is the third one. First was front passenger door. 2 months later the passenger rear door. Now 3 months later the drivers door handle just dropped off in my hand yesterday morning

We were hit on the right front passenger side by a driver on a suzuki motorcycle.the driver was ejected from the motorcycle, went thru the right passenger window, traveled across the passenger compartment.he came to rest head down on my lap. Accident was fatal for the motorcyclist who died at the site. My adult autistic son was seated in the rear seat behind the passenger seat.the side front passenger window was completely shattered and the rear right passenger window was shattered also.my son hit his head on the interior right side of the vehicle and had a tbi and serious cuts requiring surgery and icu stay.no airbags in the car deployed including side airbags and no curtainwalls deployed on the right side or anywhere in the vehicle. Car was supposedly equipped with such. Police inspected vehicle, insurance people inspected vehicle; vehicle is available for inspection at salvage lot.pictures have been taken by insurance company. Right side of vehicle was severely smashed. I had no previous warning of problems with safety features.

The door handles broke off the car during the winter

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while her son was driving the vehicle approximately 55 mph itstarted accelerating without driver intent. The driver said the rpms increase to its maximum capacity excessively. He shifted the vehicle in neutral gear in order to slow it down and drove onto the emergency lane. He then drove it home and parked it without further incident.hyundai was not notified at the time of the complaint.the owner does not feel that the vehicle is safe to drive. Approximately 6 months ago i was driving on a secondary road in heavy traffic. With cruise control at 45 mph i stepped on the brake as traffic slowed ahead of me and the engine would not disengage or slow.i had to put the car in neutral and assist the brakes with the emergency brake to stop. The throttle control assembly was replaced. Two days ago on a highway the situation repeated; i stepped on the brake and the engine would not disengage or slow and i had to stop with putting the car in neutral and the emergency brake.i am selling the car at a loss for parts.it is not safe to drive

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that when you set the cruise control the vehicle accelerated beyond the normal speed while driving down hill. While driving down a hill at 70 mph the vehicle accelerated up to 80 mph. The dealer stated that there was a problem with the vehicle, but they were unable to repair the failure. The dealer also stated that the failure was connected to hyundai's attempt to increase the miles per gallon. The manufacturer admitted that this was a problem, but at the time there was no resolution. The failure and current mileages were 1490.updated 12/23/10. *ljupdated 01/04/11.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the engine rpms increased excessively as the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning. The contact crashed into a building and the air bags did not deploy. The contact was not taken to the hospital. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where the failure was unable to be replicated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure and current mileage was 59,870.

Cruise control switch failed at 4500 miles due to open/short in switch. Part was ordered and installed. Covered under hyundai's warranty.

I had the cruise control set to 47mph, i was approaching the road to turn right and i tapped the brake to kick off the cruise control as i have done before.i then looked at the traffic around me and had to fix my seat belt which tightened too much, taking my eyes off the road a moment.when i looked up the car in front of me was at a dead stop, and i was still traveling at 47mph!the cruise control never turned off to slow the car down, i hit the car in front of me, which hit the car in front of her.my insurance decided to total my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated without warning. As a result, the contact crashed into three vehicles before being able to come to a stop. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

As i backed the car from a parking space and started forward and i experienced a sudden acceleration.i was lucky that there was no car in front of me and i was able to reach the parking lot exit safely.i turned left for several hundred yards and reached a traffic signal, i was able to immediately turn left. I proceeded south and entered the left turn lane at route 104 and was the first car at the traffic light waiting for traffic already across the intersection waiting to turn left onto route 104.the car across the intersection began to move and i stepped on the accelerator and the car shot across the intersection at full speed instantly and i was driven into the car in front.there was no chance to stop the car.the steering wheel airbag deployed and cut both my wrists when they held the steering wheel.the engine continued to race until i turned off the ignition.a police officer arrived shortly asked one or two questions and suggested i remain in the car.medics from a private ambulance service who had been in the evening traffic immediately stopped and iopened my front door windows and spoke to them (a man and woman emt).they applied bandage pads to airbag cuts on both wrists through the open windows.i remained in the car and indicated i did not need hospitalization.the driver of the other car immediately got out of his ca.

Sonata pulling to the left under normal driving. Performed wheel alignments 7 months ago, car ran fine for about 2 months. Online research indicates this model has a factory alignment issue.
