My car has always been kept in garage.about 2 years ago i advised my dealer that cracks were developingon my dashboard.i wasconcerned because it is over airbags.i was told i would be responsible for repairs. I see other consumers with same model havingsame problems.i been retired last 3 years and have driven my car less than 5 thousand miles, car is kept in garage and the crack has now spread to driver's side of dashboard!i hope a recall occurs for this problem before an accident happens. I should not be responsible for safety defects in car!

My 2007 sonata involved in 2008 side impact; over $10000.00 in damage; drivers side and february 5, 2012 my 2009 sonata involved in side impact at 45 mph over $10000.00 damage; drivers side. Both accidents involved replacing both drivers side doors and rear quarter panels. In both cases the side airbags did not deploy. Hyundai said car not hit hard enough. The latest crash injured both myself and my daughter. Both crashes showed the drivers side doors intrusion of about 8 inches to the passenger compartment.

My esc and air bag malfunction lights are illuminated and my brakes mal-functions.recall campaign 110 recalls the brake light switch on some of these cars but not on my year and model.i am suggesting that the recall may need to be expanded to include the 2009 sonata since the switches seem to malfunction in that make/model/year as well.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the passengers side air bag was disabled and the air bag light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that there was no failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The current mileage was approximately 19,100. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000. Updated 04/07/11the consumer stated the problem was intermittent and when the air bag was in the disabled mode, he found to correct the problem was to shut the vehicle off and then restart it. Updated 04/08/11

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata.while driving 25 mph, the contact stated he was involved in a frontal crash when the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was destroyed.the dealer informed the contact that they will forward the information to the manufacturer on his behalf.the manufacturer was notnotified of the failure.the current and failure mileage was42,000.the vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving 3 mph the wheels locked and/or the transmission locked causing the vehicle to steer to the right and crash into the side of another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The driver side and front fender were damaged. There were no injuries. The police was notified but no report was filed. The vehicle was undriveable and was towed to the dealer. The insurance company was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified and was sending a representative to the dealership to inspect the vehicle. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 30,000.

My dashboard on passenger side of car started cracking last year. It is over the airbag so i now try not to put anyone in that seat or sit there myself.it started out as 1 crack and everyday there is more.

Air bag light on the display has come up and it won't go away. Took the vehicle to dealer and i was told that there is spring in the steering wheel worth $450 need to be replaced. Also i have been asked to replace passenger seat belt buckle assembly costing more than $350, to correct the airbag light.i read that an investigation is going on for 2008 hyundai sonata for the mentioned seat belt buckle. Please conduct an investigation into the mentioned air bag issue to find out if this is a widespread issue with the model and get the manufacturer to bear the cost.

The passenger air bag light continues to flash when there is no one in the seat. Took to the dealer and they said it is suppose to flash when first start up the car, but i let them know that it on the entire time i am driving. The dealer said they could not duplicate the issue. I took video of it so i can show them. It is on multiple days in a roll with nothing in the seat. I want to make sure it will work correctly when i do have someone sit in the seat.

Driving alongon a city street and noticed airbag indicator on console was on. Looked around and the passenger airbag indicator off light was not off. Passenger seat belt indicator was flashing and there was no passenger in seat.

Takata recallthe dashboard is serverly cracking over the air bag an across the dashboard. Started in july and getting worst. I never been in an accident the body of the car is in good condition for its age. Mileage is due to highway driving.( i do not know how the airbag is setup in dashboard but there two long crackabout 10 to12 inches apart from the windshield to the glove compartment and now another one about 8 inches coming from the side of that going across the dashboard.)

I have a 2009 hyundai sonata with a 5 speed manual transmission.on tuesday, may 25, 2010, i was traveling on route295 south in ri when i tried to shift from 4th gear to 5th gear.i pressed my clutch in and tried to shift, the clutch never came back up and my car stalled in the middle lane of the highway.i couldn't get the clutch to come back and the car lost its speed down to about 5-10 miles per hour, if that.the person behind me went around me but the woman behind him smashed into me doing around 70mph.her car pushed mine forward and into the next lane.my airbags never deployed.luckily, i walked away with a bruised left arm and that was all.my husband had called our dealership a few times regarding this issue but because it didn't stick all the time, they couldn't tell us what was wrong.my car is an absolute mess right now and i don't know if it can be repaired.

Crossing intersection on green light. Inattentive driver ran red light, crushing passenger side and forcing car into another vehicle. This impact caused the rear of auto to be crushed.airbag did not deploy and, thus, did not protect from injury.

There has not been an acciedentas of yet in the event of something happen. My dash broad has cracked all the way arcossi have be told that is a harrazad.my car home in drive way next morning itwas crack half way and now its crack all away cross.

The passenger side dashboard has two long cracks around or within the airbag area. Based on some google search, this appears to be a common problem in the sonata. I have the single owner of this vehicle. There was major accident, and no front collision of this vehicle. The cracks apparently are due to poor rubber quality. The cracks have been noticed for roughly a week, though the exact date of its first appearnce is uncertain.

Air bag light turned on the dash of the 2009 hyundai sonata. Called and reported to hyundai (case # upon nhtsa request) and then took the vehicle to a hyundai dealer. Vehicle has 26,456 miles on 12/23/2014. Dealer description of faultscanned for dtcs, b1322 and b1324 present and active in srs system. Cleared codes and attempted wcs reset procedure via gds, reset failed and dtcs returned. Passenger seat bottom needs replaced per tsb 09-bd-007. Customer declined repairs at this time. Quoted $2,189, tax included. I paid $127.43 to diagnose the srs system problem. The nhtsa has a campaign (recall # 08v161000) for the failure of occupant classification system (ocs) in the right front seat for 2006-2008 hyundai sonatas. This 2009 hyundai sonata was manufactured on 01/8/2008. These early manufactured 2009 hyundai sonatas should be included in nhtsa campaign (recall # 08v161000) since the same 2008 passenger seat bottom part was probably used in these vehicles. The failure of occupant classification system (ocs) in the right front seat is a safety issue that the nhtsa needs to address.

Passenger airbag will not turn on.does not matter if anyone is in the seat or not, the red light is always on.

We believe our vehicle has a takata air bag system. It is a 2009 hyundai sonata that was built in 2008. In november 2018, cracks started to appear on the dashboard above the air bags. It has gotten progressively worse since. The air bag light has come on and is consistently staying on while driving the car. The book says to contact the dealer. All indications from information online state that this is a serious safety concern and must be addressed immediately. We feel concerned about driving it. It was purchased new on 09/10/2008. We believe that this car should have been listed in the recalls for the hyundai sonatas years 2007-2008 since it was built in 2008.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact was involved in a crash in which she rear ended another vehicle. None of the air bags deployed. The front driver seat belt also did not tighten during the crash. Apolice report was filed. No injuries were reported. The vehicle had not been examined for the cause of failure of the non-deployment and the seat belt. Approximately 14 months later, she was involved in another crash in which she was rear ended and the air bags did not deploy. The driver side seat belt again did not tighten during the crash. A police report was filed. The contact was injured. She was taken by ambulance to be treated for serious injuries. The vehicle was destroyed. It was not examined for the cause of failure and was not repaired. The failure mileage was 37,000 and the current mileage was 47,000.

The contact owned a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle and struck the guardrail and median. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The passenger sustained a cut to the back of the head and two front teeth were loose that required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000. The vin was not available.

Dashboard is cracking and has been for a year and a half.my boyfriend's friend has the same car, same year and his is worse than mine.my concern is this is where airbag is located.

Dashboard cracking directly around air bag unit underneath dashboard on passenger side. This is a known issue to hyundai, affecting numerous models and model years. Hyundai dealers refuse to classify it a safety defect, and have told me the dashboard replacement is the responsibility of the customer. Multiple hyundai service technicians on the internet confirm what i suspect, that this is a manufacturer's defect and a safety issue. Cracks began appearing at about 68,000 miles, approximately november 2015, and are getting progressively worse. Car now has approximately 72,000 miles (july 2016).

2009 hyundai sonata-2 front end collisions air bags never came out for either.front end work done after 1st front end collision.air bags did not come out during 2nd colision either.concerned why the airbags did not come out for either accident.

Airbag light will not turn off. I have taken the car to two dealerships and they have not been able to fix the problem. The ocs is defective. I have had the car for 10 years and no one ever sits in the passenger seat. I do put groceries on the seat at times. I believe the problem is the same as the tsb campaign that was put out for 2006 -2008 sonata. The campaign number is 083. How can i find out if my 2009 sonata was manufactured in 2008? when the vehicle was returned from the first dealer the seatbelt light was flashing.

I was heading out of my driveway when my car was hit on left front side by a vehicle traveling on the road.that also triggered another collision in which my car hit another car parked on the street.the hood was gravely damaged.it was a total loss.the critical issue was that no airbag, whatsoever, was inflated to protect the safety of the passenger in the car.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The air bag warning light was illuminated on the instrument control panel, which indicated that the air bags were inoperative. The manufacturer and the dealer were notified, and the representatives concluded that the failure was a normal characteristic of the vehicle. The failure mileage was 6,000.the consumer stated his wife is 90bls and when she sat in the passenger seat, the air bag light remained on.sometimes, the light will go off. Updated 10/29/09

Taking my car for the first oil change since i bought it and the car stalled while in neutral waiting for an oil change. Restarted without a problem. It has also tried to stall while driving several times since, more frequentthan before. It's also stalled in stop and go traffic. My check light only comes on for a split second when the car tries to die, but after that, it's just fine. Brought it to 3 dealerships that told me that nothing was wrong with my car. I bought an obdii scanner and found trouble codes p0335 and p0108. Took it to the dealer again and they still couldn't find a code. My car has almost stalled while trying to cross a busy intersection and no one wants to even try to help me.

Was driving on access road and the esc off light came on and thecar started to stall- unable to accelerate. Had to pull to side of the road on wurzbach parkway. Took it to shop and had cam shaft, crankshaft sensors removed and replaced. Had $700 of other work done and car worked great for 2 weeks. Unfortunately today while driving home fromesc off light came on and car was unable to accelerate. Luckily i got to safetybut could've been killed if i wasn't so lucky... Pretty ridiculous problem to have especially as so many people are reporting the same problem...

On october 27 2013, the dash board lights and the back illuminating lights, glove compartment and over head lights went out, i took it to a car repair shop and they changed out the dimmer switch, which kept burning out, smoke has come out of the dash board and it smelled life fire, i pulled over and called the dealer. This is a safety issue i am not able to drive the car at night and i am afraid the care might catch fire. After changing it out 4 times, the mechanic told us to take it to the dealer.we did take the car to the dealer and $700.00 later they still don't know what the problem it, so i have filed a case with the corporate office, the car has had some electrical problems before, but it has been fixed because they have been recalls. The dealer does not know what to do and they want us to take the car somewhere else. The dealer is no help, they suggested we just buy a new car!!!

The brake lights do not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed.the gear shift not able to be shifted out of the park position. The electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light illuminates.very similar to recall for same model on another year (2006).

Bought car new , at 30,000 mile starter replaced [ could not turn key in ignition] . That was covered by warranty . At 63,000 miles igntion went [ again unable to turn key to start car ] and i was stranded with vehicle.--this time approx $650.00 i for repairs . I have heard /read there is a history fo this kind of problem . Hyundai did give me a $200.credit toward next repair . With my age and being widowed i really would like to feel confident that this car is going to be safe for me .i just don't think with the amount of mileage thatthese problems should have existed . Are they using inferior parts ??

My driver side door lock button does not work. As the driver, i am unable to unlock or lock doors using this button. Instead i either have to get out of my seat to unlock the other doors. This is a personal safety hazard because i have no control over my door locks and forced to get out of my seat or vehicle to either lock or unlock doors when the car is in park.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the driver of the vehicle attempted to turn the vehicle off but she was unable to take the key out of the ignition. The driver took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection but they could not diagnose the cause of failure or remove the key. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While parked, the contact noticed the lights on the instrument panel were not illuminating. The contact stated the failure occurred intermittently. Also the taillights were not illuminating. The brake lights and turn signals still functioned. The vehicle was taken into the dealer where the junction box was replaced. The failure occurred a second time and the junction box was replaced again. The failure occurred a third time. The vehicle was going to betaken back to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while replacing a flat tire shenoticed that the inside wall of the tire was worn.the mechanic that inspected the vehicle stated that the failure was caused by a cotter pin that was installed backwards. Also, she added that she had to replace two batteries after she bought the vehicle because she constantly needed to have the vehicle jump started. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the failure. The vehicle had not beenrepaired. The failure mileage was 13,850 and the current mileage was 14,000.

Please be advised that i purchased said vehicle new and ataround 35000 miles i started to notice that when i slowed down and came to a stop the transmission would jerk on the down shift, which is not normal. On 01-19-2012 i brought my car to the dealer where i purchased from . I was informed that this problem is common and that once my computer is reset it should go away, and there is a service bulletin on that issue. On 03-19-2012 i was having the same issue so the transmission was replaced with factory reconditioned transmission. Now with 74000 mile the car is back for the 5 th time for the same transmission problem. The dealer has my car and ihave not heard from the dealer or hyundai corporation for two weeks. I believe that hyundai corporation knew the problem existed and neglected to fix the problem other wise a new car with 35000 miles should not have this problem and the mechanics don't know how to remedy the faulty transmission. I am very disappointed with hyundai and there handling of this problem. I believe the damage has been done, and new software is not going to fix this problem, the bands in the transmission are worn now, the damage has been done. This is just putting a band aid on a serious problem and a manufacturing defect. One does not anticipate any serious problems with a brand new car with only 35000 miles. What good is a 10 year 100.000 mile warranty when you start having these problem at 35000 miles. I have done some research on-line and there are others who have the same problem with same car, i am not the only one.this is a disgrace hyundai corporation i purchased said vehicle from atlantic hyundai inc. Located at 193-205 sunrise highway, west islip ny 11795. I have also contacted hyundai corporation several times but to no avail.

Esc light comes on intermittently common problem with hyundai. Previous recalls and current recall on some models. I am filing a complaints with national safety so that a recall can be extended to more vehicles. Hyundai is unwilling to fix these issues without a recall. Want people to pay out of pocket for something that is a manufacturing defect.

During the last couple of weeks of rain, we have had multiple occasions where our vehicle has lost power steeringand our battery lightgoes on during low speed operation.. There was no deep puddles, just normal rain on streets.in some cases, total stall and othersengine screeches and restarts.without warning.filed complaint withhyundai america.took to dealer.was advised this was a known problem for2007-2009hyundai sonatas. And there was no known fix . Had vehicle checked.advised all splash guards and shields in place.could not be duplicated at dealership. One service rep at dealership advised his wife has same problem. All belts and pulleysand tension springs ok. We are verydisappointed in the response we have received at hyundai to a "known "safety problem.to be more specific, five(5) occasions have occurred.told to come back when it rains.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact state that the vehicle hesitated to start and once it did, the instrument panel lights and the head lights failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ignition lock cylinder was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 59,000.

Headlights dim but don't automatically shut off when turning off the car thus draining battery leaving dead car.

Around feb of this year, my car battery died and i got it replaced with a new one.soon after i started experiencing an additional grinding noise that would occur sometimes after start up.upon investigation, i was told it was the starter by hyundai.i took my car to my mechanic however and was told that it was the ignition switch selector, that it had gone bad and that it needed to be replaced.i hope this solves the problem.

While driving the esc and check engine light comes then it will only let me 'coast' about 5mph.

The front valve cover gasket leaked oil down to my alternator, causing it to malfunction and making my transmission shift awkwardly.

The incident is similar to nhtsa id# 10508953 which stated there was a grinding noise after starting the car. I experienced the same malfunction but sometimes the grinding doesn't stop until the engine is turned off. It doesn't happen everytime the engine is started but i also had other problems with the ignition switch.a few times the engine started while the key was just turned to the "on" position. After hearing of all the ignition switch problems with gm vehicles, i thought this should be handled by hyundai as a recall because it is definitely an unsafe situation. I hope the nhtsa will take action on this matter. The vehicle owners should not have to pay for defectively manufactured components no matter how old the vehicle.

The power side window button is floppy it just stays down and you have to pull it back up manually its like the spring is broken.the hvac motor blower doesn't always blow i have to mess with the knob to get the heat or ac to work.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the key would not turn over in the ignition. The vehicle was later towed to the dealer where they advised that the ignition lock failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure recurred approximately two years later. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000. The current mileage was approximately 80,000. The vin was unavailable.

Check engine light code reads intake valve circuit has low voltage.noticed reduced gas mileage economy and poor engine performance.

Car won't start, not even making sound of ignition. This happened 3-4 times and today its totally shut off. Battery looks good and radio , lights and all working fine but car not starting at all. I read online and looks like this is common problem for all hyundai sonata 2008-2011 cars.

The alarm will sound randomly while driving or parked.we are not sure what is going on.it happens dozens of times a day and alarms my teenage driver.the button is not pushed, nothing is touching the car.just random.we want this fixed because it is a safety concern, especially when she is driving and the alarm goes off for no reason.

Some times when starting the car with my foot on the brake the rpms go up to about 1200 and then down to 800 rpms.when my foot is removed from the brake the car wants to accelerate and go on its own often.while stoped at a stop sign or stoped with my foot on the brake the car will lurch forward when released, some times spinning the tires. It is progressively getting worse after returning from a 5000 mile trip in june, 2013. The car purchased new and has a automatic transmission with aprox.65000 miles total on the car.this is a accident waiting to happen and should have a recall.

Hyundai sonata 2009 red warning light for passenger seal belt stays lit even if no ones setting there or only a purse, or no one setting ther. So i have to put seal belt into lock even when no one setting there. So i have to fasten seat belt all the time. When driving car all the time have to keep it fastened.also window electric switch on driver side most times doesn't function properly. Then deal sold me it a few months ago. I opened door cover to see if it was a switch problem & there was 2/12 inches of dried dirt in bottom of door panel. Dealer large one in san antonio,tx, at used lot say it is normal. I seem to thinkit might have been flooded in water he say no way it normal. Sure jokes on me now purchased as is dummy me, in limbo in tx. Car paint is starting to chip as well with deep open scratches weird every wash seems to make it worse looking.

I noticed a shuddering at 90,250 miles, while traveling during the winter at around 30-45 mph, but was very intermittent, and would go away.then on 10/9/2013 at 102,515 miles, from park, the transmission would not engage into reverse or drive.i could hear the transmission shift, but it was not disengaging from park.per hyundai service technician, the transmission was "junk" and would need to be replaced.i contacted hyundai corporate, during which time i was informed they didn't have my information in their system and that in fact there were 2 recalls that they failed to notify me of, and was told that if i allowed the hyundai service to do the repair right then, that i would be eligible for their policy reimbursement.one of the recalls was an ecm and tcm software update in which symptoms were improper clutching and de-clutching of gears when accelerating and decelerating.that shift quality over time caused undo stress on the gearing causing my failure.the repair was made, i then had to pay upfront, and a week later they've denied my policy reimbursement claim due to fluid being the cause of failure.i then provided them with further documentation showing that their own technician re-used 5 quarts of my original fluid on the repair order, and that i followed the maintenance record that was suggested by their own technicians advice when i purchased the vehicle.drain and fill every 30,000 miles.the last drain and fill was on june 14, 2013.hyundai did not provide me with any fluid analysis or specs to support their denial of my policy reimbursement.i saved the agents voicemail of the denial in which she stated due to "color" and that alone, was the reason why the claim was denied.

The car was in the driveway warming up and caught fire it burned up the starter and starter assembly, the battery wire harness and the manifold.all of this has to be replaced before we can assess any other damages or run a diagnostic.

My esc off and check engine lights came on. My mechanic indicated it was due to a bad brake light switch as my rear brake lights and cruise control did not work.he replaced the brake light switch but a couple days later the check engine light came back on. The computer listed a different code, stating the brake light switch is not compatible, but the rear brake lights work off and on. Awaiting follow up with my mechanic as he was going to check with hyundai.

Problem was with theswitch on my car. When i turned the car on it made a strange sound for a couple of months, it would only happen once or twice a month. When it became more frequent and began to make the sound a couple of times when i put the car in park, i took my hyundai back to the car dealer. They claimed it was the starter.my husband and his mechanic said it sounded more like the switch.they wanted to charge almost 500.00 dollars to fix the problem.my husband bought the switch for about $15.00 dollars and his mechanic put it on. I have not had any problems since.i do not know if any one else had this problem.

Tamara recall. My seat won't move back or forward .electrical switch.

!) check engine light has been on for almost a year..shop said it was a gas cap problem..bought new cap, not fixed..still on2) filling car up with gas....very difficult to fill...knob keeps shutting off gas flow....once again shop has no good answer......

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving 20 mph, the stability control warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was restarted and the warning light shut off. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the electronic stability control indicator illuminatedwhile driving 60 mph. Also, the vehicle jerked and stalled, but was able to restart. Additionally, the accelerator pedal failed to respond when it was depressed. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics who referred the contact to heritage hyundai towson (801 york rd, towson, md, 877-387-5495) where it was diagnosed that the crank position sensor needed to be replaced; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 113,000.

Car started as usual and i was driving on a city street getting ready to get on the highway. All of a sudden the car would only go about 20 mph and reach 1000 rpm. It died shortly thereafter on the highway frontage road. All of the lights for abs, brakes, check engine etc. Came on but the emergency flashers would not work so i had to keep pumping the brakes so nobody would run into the back end of my car. It would not restart so i had to have it towed to the dealer. Dealer stated valve cover gasket had leaked oil onto the alternator and ruined it. That in turn ruined the battery. Car was repaired for $1400 including the tow and a rental car. After looking at hyundai recalls, i noticed the one for the 2009 vera cruz (nhtsa# 14v415000) in which 61,122 units were recalled for this same problem. In researching the affected valve cover gasket, i found the same one was used on my 3.3l engine that was listed as defective on the 3.8l vera cruz engine. If that part was defective on that vehicle, why was the scope of this recall not extended to cover all possible vehicles that could be affected? i would like the cost of repairs refunded to me since hyundai obviously knew this part was defective but didn't issue a recall to cover all affected vehicles.

On 10/08/2009 my 209 hyundai sonata went into an unintended acceleration.as soon as i put the car into drive it began to accelerate.the brakes did not work and i was able to shift into neutral.i was on a narrow dirt road with little limited options as to where to steer the vehicle.i missed a boulder, garage, and tree before hitting the side of a house.the ambulance was called and i was transported to the local emergency room.i had a concussion, fractured knee along with a number of bruises and abrasions. The emts told me how lucky if was since the air bags did not deploy..an internet search, including your website, notes these problems going back several years.toyota had the same problem and did a recall.my injuries will exceed the limit of my insurance and i will have to purchase a car. I know how lucky i was to walk away.i am sure others had more serious injuries and higher expenses.what does it take to force hyundai to do the right thing?

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While the vehicle was stationary, the steering wheel and the ignition switch seized without warning. The vehicle was towed to tysinger hyundai in hampton, virginia to be repaired, but the dealer could not find the cause of the failure. In addition, the dealer stated that a locksmith would need to unlock the ignition. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 80,248. Updated 10/18/17*lj

Check engine light is on. Hecu internal failure. Active dtc present: c1237 primary pressure sensor signal. Sensor failure inside the abs control cycle. Values at pressure sensor changed from 0.3 bar to 78.0 bar; no change in supply voltage. Supply voltage constantly at 14v. Hyundai has mentioned that there are no active recalls and that this part is life threatening if it fails - but since the warranty has expired they are shying away. Online there are several known issues with hyndai and hecu. Specially for models before 2009. Its hard to believe that hyundai is not aware of this problem and seems like they are avoiding their responsibility and playing with human life. Would appreciate if the government can do something.

All car systems flashed and car went completely dead. Nothing worked. First time it happened mechanic said alternator and battery had to be changed. A year and a half later exact same thing happened and again new mechanic says the alternator needs to be changed. Big safety isuue as car died in the middle of highway with cars going all around me trying to avoid me. This is second time the alternator has to be replaced with only 2000 miles on the car after the alternator was replaced the first time.

This is my second official complaint about this. I drove through a large puddle and the battery light came on, the car slowed down but recovered after the light went off. I have looked around and many hyundai customers, with different models and years complain of the same issue. Is anything being done about this yet? or do drivers have to die first. Please help us. -[xxx]previous complaint # 10954232information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated upon starting the ignition the entire instrument panel and headlights failed to function. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times. The dealer repaired the vehicle during the third diagnostic test; however, the intermittent failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 23,000. The vin was unavailable.

After vehicle engine was running the starter motor engaged while the engine was running. The vehicle was idle parked the shift position lever was in the park position.the starter motor will engage on it's own in the park position and in the neutral position. The stater motor will also engage and crank the the vehicle engine in the drive or reverse positions this symptom developed later. I had a certified mechanic look at the vehicle and he said the ignition switch was defective and will have to be replaced. I check for recall information online and found no reference to the problem.

The esc off light is always on.

Vehicle navigation system failed.on line there are hundreds of people complaining for the same thing.this needs to have a recall. Updated 10/31/11updated 11/08/11

Front engine valve cover gasket leaked oil onto alternator causing it to become damaged, which led to poor transmission shifting and then complete loss of all electrical power.

A few days after the ignition cylinder was replaced, the speedometer started malfunctioning. My wife drove the car to work. While the car was running, she noticed the speedometer needle was at zero reading while the car was doing at least 25 miles per hour. She turned around and drove an older car instead. Over the weekend, i drove the hyundai sonata around but the speedometer problem did not show up. But the following monday afternoon, i experienced this speedometer problem first hand. I noticed the car would accelerate from stop with the needle either slightly going up or not at all. I was at least going 25 miles per hour on an expressway. The needle continued to be stuck at zero until i had to apply the brake, and then momentarily, the needle would bounce up between 20-30 mph before going back to zero again.

While driiving with the seat belt fastened....the seat belt light goes off and when the brake is applied...it doesnt always stop....or catch the light goes off whether the seat belt is fastened or not. Tlow beam head light on drivers side goes on and off at times...had checked and the reply was it might be an electrical issue.

Takata recall. I was told that the electrical module is defective by autozone,. We were driving down the highway when all of a sudden the engine light came on. We pulled over to check the usual stuff like oil and antifreeze and other fluids. But all of them were ok. We tried to leave again with no success. We had no power. The engine would turn over but whenwe tried to press the gas nothing would go. So we stopped the car waited for a while and then the car started. We countinued our trip carefully, but the check engine light was still on. After we arrived to our destination i went to autozone to check the problem. They said the eletrical and cpu modules are damaged. That of course has me a little worried. We have only had the car for a year so it couldnt be for that reason.

The button to open the gas cap does not work.

The contact was repairing a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving various speeds, the ignition would inadvertently restart while the vehicle was in motion. The starter motor could be heard re-engaging. The driver was able to drift to the side of the road, shifted the gear into neutral, and restarted the vehicle correctly. After several minutes of normal operationthe failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and then to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a new key cylinder and ignition switch needed to be installed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 48,000. Updated 04/12/17 *lj*as

Ignition is sticking, key will not turn on the auto.in 2011 we started having trouble with the ignition on the car. We had been to the dealer for them to spray, recut the key and each time it was a temporary fix. In august of 2011 they replaced the ignition switch. Again we had some problems with the key not wanting to start the car. In 2013 we went back to the dealer for them to recut keys, and fix the ignition because the key was not turning the car on, yet again. In 2014 the car was stranded in a parking lot after the car was at the dealer for them to fix the ignition problems. They cleaned the ignition out again. We had to call a lock smith to come and work on the ignition to get the car started. This fixed the car for about 3 months. Again the car was stranded at a business. We called the lock smith again and this time it had to be towed to the dealer for repairs.to date: we have been to dealers 15+ times for work on or repair to the ignition. Other aspects like the locking mechanism, or other parts that are involved in making the key turnhas never been addressed, i am told that the cost will be 250.00+ for an issue that started before the warranty ran out.

Esc off light turns on intermittantly. The esc on/off switch does not put it out. If i turn the car off and re start, then the esc off light goes out sometimes. Also, it returns when i start the engine next time.

Esc light will come on at various times and engine will shut off. Will get check engine light intermittently with this but not always. This may occur going 20 mph on residential streets or going 70 mph on highway while driving in traffic. No rhyme or reason for it going off. May be dry or wet pavement warm or cold out. Hen engine dies at high speed may start back up upon deceleration or may need to make it to the side of road. Sometimes resets upon restarting the first time but other times it takes a few times of turning engine off then on.

The esc off light comes on and pushing the on/off switch does not put it out. If i shut the car off and re start, the dash light goes out.it seems like this usually happens going 30-40mph and i feel a slight jerk in the car then it comes on. It has also happened while driving on the highway around 60mph.the last time this happened was 07/12/17 driving around 30mph.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving various speeds, the "esc off" warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal would not accelerate the vehicle forward when depressed and that the vehicle lost power. Pacifico hyundai in philadelphia, pennsylvania was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The brake lights do not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed.the gear shift not able to be shifted out of the park position. The electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light illuminates.very similar to recall for same model on another year (2006).

Hello, 2009 sonata: the esc off light comes on. If i shut the car off and re start, the dash light goes out sometimes; may return the next time i start the car. I heard that this is a common manufacture defect. Thank you.

The esc has turned off (dash light comes on) at various times. Previously my brake switch was an issue and my cruise control would not disconnect by tapping the brake. I had that replaced a few years ago. Now, the esc turns off after 30 minutes of driving. If i turn the car off, it is fine for about 30 minutes. Also, periodically, i press the volume adjustment on the steering wheel and it does the opposite ... In other words, i press volume down and the volume actually goes up. The electronics seem to be very messed up...

I have been experiencing a problem with my electronic stability control (esc).the "esc off" indicator lamp becomes illuminated while i am driving.i am unable to turn it off by pressing the esc button.when the esc off indicator is illuminated, this also causes the brake lights to not function, creating the risk of an accident.

Driving on the interstate, 'esc off' light came on; at the same time, the cruise control quit working and i noticed that the brake lights all quit working at the same time.

While driving the check engine light and esc light comes on and it's like the gas is shut off but doesn't die. This has happened several times over the past 9 months and it really hasn't been an issue because normally you can shut the car off and turn it back on and it's fine but the other day i was on a major hwy in the middle lane and it shut down. Luckily i was able to make it to the shoulder otherwise i would have stalled in the middle lane causing an accident.

The "esc off" light was on the dash and remained until i turned off the engine. It was gone for a while then came back again often like every several hundred miles.

My light keeps coming on and off on the esc not sure why or what to do.

We purchased a 2009 hyundai sonata from voss hyundai in centerville, ohio on 5/21/2009. On 10/14/14 we took the car in for an 'important safety recall' which stated that they changed the brake light switch because it could be defective and cause several problems, one of which would cause the illumination of the esc (electronic stability control) lamp among other things. Eight days ago our esc light and abs light came on and stayed on. I made an appointment and took the car to voss this morning only to be told that i would be charged $103 to even find out what the problem is, not to mention the charges for actually fixing a safety recall problem which i am sure would be expensive. I consider this to be a safety problem related to the previous recall work. They may have replaced a perfectly good brake light switch with a faulty one. This car has 12,875 miles on it and we only use it occasionally. It is in a garage at all times and this morning was the first time it has been out in rain. We had not bought a new car in many years and bought this one because of the great 10 year warranty on it. Apparently i should have sat in the showroom and asked to read the fine print on their warranty before buying it. I have researched this problem on the internet and many people are having the very same problem with all models of hyundais. Several people have experienced stability and steering problems related to this defect in design or parts which could easily lead to an accident. We really liked the car until this happened, the dealership 'not so much' now. I really think that hyundai should admit that there is a safety problem and fix the problem correctly for the many owners who are having this happen to them, not just a $10 brake light switch after a $103 diagnostic charge.

Esc off light intermittent on my dash board.

While driving normally, straight on a level road esc off light came on.occasionally turns off but mostly stays on.cars around 95000 miles and the same thing happened to a 2006 hyundai sonata i had around the same mileage.mechanic said it was an electrical issue and need to call in an electrician.

My esc & check engine light come on and car stalls and shuts off while driving on streets and the freeway.

Esc off light came on after starting engine when parked. I shut car off and attempted to restart engine. The engine shuddered and would not start. I turned off ignition and waited a few minutes. I again started the car , this time with no problem and the esc off light did not stay on.the esc off light has come on previously(once) and subsequently (once) at highway speeds with no apparent accompanying issues. I have taken it into the hyundai dealer twice. The dealer replaced the stop light switch the first time but the light came on again (65mph). The second time in, the dealer checked out the car but could not find any problem as the esc off light was not on at the time of inspection.my research on the web leads me to believe that this is a significant safety issue . I am not driving the car out of town until i can resolve the issue.

Upon start up this morning, the esc off light turned on.this has happened intermittently over the past year, at least 4 times.i have taken it to the dealer, when the car was under warranty to be told not to worry about it unless the light simply did not turn off eventually.each time the light has turned off after turning the car off and then restarting it.i am concerned that this has been an ongoing problem with the hyundais, yet the dealer never told me nor did they try to make a permanent fix to the problem.now i am out of warranty and the problem continues.there was a recall prior to the 2009 hyundais for this same issue and wondering if so many people continue to be experiencing the same issue why there is not another recall.

Related to previous complaint dated 9/16/2013 nhtsa id number 10543783.my vehicle continues to have problems with the esc light intermittently lighting up - more frequent than previous.my vehicle previously also had this issue addressed while under warranty on 6/18/2011 when the car had 67,604 miles, at which time the brake switch was replaced due to the esc light intermittently lighting up.there is a current recall campaign 110 and hyundai recall 13v-113 underway, but my vehicle is not included.i ask that this recall be expanded as i am having these issues with my car at present and understand that others not included in the recall are also experiencing similar problems.

Basically it appears that i'm having the same brake switch issue common with many hyundais. However, currently the '09 sonata is not covered under any recall. The problem began at least a year ago when the esc off light would turn on at random times. It would normally clear upon turning the car off. A few days ago the esc off light would not turn off. Today i could not shift into park from drive. After searching the internet i quickly found the brake switch issue. I confirmed that my brake lights were not functional. This is something occurs with absolutely no warning which is a bit scary since i drive home on a major highway. I'm not sure how long the brake lights had been out. I also noticed that the cruise control stopped functioning when the esc off light became permanent. However, for some reason it started working again when the shift lock problem occurred. Odd. Not sure why an additional issue would make the speed control functional again.

While driving the car at a rate of 30 to 40 mph, i felt a jerk in the engine or transmission speed of my vehicle, and afterwords noticed my esc off light and engine lights had been illuminated and unable to be shut off with my esc switch. I also noticed that i was unable to rev my engine past 3000rpm's, consequently affecting my vehicle's usable power band and rendering me(the driver) unable to control the car's overall speed. After turning my vehicle off and then back on, the problem would go away, but only temporarily until i was again driving. I then went to a mechanic to have my car's computer scanned and found that there was a problem with my crankshaft or crankshaft sensor. My computer was then reset, but the problems persisted again shortly after.

The esc light comes on intermittently while driving. The car jerks as this happens. Once in this condition, the car runs extremely rough and will even stall when starting from a full stop (stalls in the middle of an intersection). During one occurrence, the car wouldn't go faster than 25 mph when going up a slight incline. I can't turn off esc; pressing the switch is ignored. If i turn off/on the car, the problem seems to go away for a while.

Esc light constantly on no brakes lights.

Esc light goes on and off intermittently sometimes engine hesitation is involved.this happens at varying speeds, varying operating temps, and varying weather/temp conditions.

I have noticed for months beginning in may of this year my esc lightwould come on, the light would come on and off intermitently.i took my vehicle to a hyundai dealership to inquire about this problem, i was told that i would have to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing to find out what the problem might be.the service manager stated my vehicle was out of warranty for three months, and all costs would be my responsibility for the parts and labor.the manager also ask me if my brake lights were out ,because ofprior problems withthe stop light switch.i returned home and found all of my brake lights out, i had been driving for several months with no brake lights.i discoverd on line that all 2009 sonatas were recall for this exact problem that were manufactured after jan 01,2009, i was told this by hyubdai motor company when i call them about this problem. I was given a case number to have my vehicle fixed under the recall , case # 5994137. I received a call back from the same repersentative that my vehicle was not covered under the current campaign because my vehicle was manufactured on feb 22, 2008 and the current campaign were for 2009 sonatas manufactred after jan 01,2009.i then took my vehicle to my own mechanic for testing and repair he found that the stop light switch was bad and i had it replace. It is too consequential that a car manufactured 9 months later after my vehicle tohave the same problem that i experience. I find that the same part used in the sonatas that were manufactured 9 months after my vehicle ,is the same part that was put in my vehicle you do not have to be a rocket scientist to understand this !!!therefor, please investigate this issue regarding the above stated matter, not only for a recall issue but most importantly asafety issue. Thank you for any consideration you may give this incident.sincerely. [xxxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Takata recallon july 27, 28 2019the esc light came on intermittently causing the car to stalldriving south on i 75 and later on the streets.after turning the car off and restarting the car it drove alongok.during our return trip, the car stalled again driving north on i 75 , andwepulled to the side of theroad onlysecondsbeforea 18 wheelerpassed uswithin less than a foot between us. All five us could have been killed.we were lucky to find anational repair shop opened on a sunday who diagnosed the problem as a faulty crankshaft position sensor( the car has 54,000 miles ) . The part was replaced and after 4 hours we were on our way, minus $400 plus dollars.research indicates that this continues to be anunsafe and potentially deadly problem-that this sensormust be recalled- and the public made aware of the danger.

I was driving the sonata when all of a sudden the car lost its force and wouldn't move. While stuck in the middle of the street i was pushing the gas peddle but the car would not go. The esc off light came on, and the check engine light as well. I powered the car off and turned it back on but the car still did not have a lot of force, but enough to get to a nearby parking lot. I left the car off in a parking lot for about 5 min and turned it back on. The esc light turned off, but not the check engine. There have been similar problems where its a switch in the brake peddle but that should not make the entire car shut off. I took it to my dealership since i just bought the car 2 weeks ago and now i'm waiting for diagnostics to come back.

While driving, the esc off light comes on. It does so randomly, but frequently while highway driving.

My brake light stop switch broke into pieces with normal use so the brake lights stay on when car is turned off. My front brake hose sprung a fluid leak that made the brakes fully stop working in the middle of a drive. The front brake hose split and cracked prematurely cuasing the brale fluid to empty out. The brake pedal went straight to the floor without stopping the vehicle when this event happened during a drive.my esc light is on big probblem im assuming. My passenger air bag light is on as well both indicate are off and non working.

The light turns on and you try to push the switch to it back on but it does nothing. This is the second time this has happened to me. The first i had some sensor replaced but its back on doing the same thing again

The esc light has been going off intermittently in my vehicle for the past 2 weeks, causing the shifter to downshift instead of keep moving the car when i press the gas, and the gas pedal becomes unresponsive. This happened on the interstate (i-78) today, and i almost got into an accident in the middle lane. I researched the problem, and it seems there was a recall on previous hyundai models, yet hyundai has failed to address this issue in the 2009 sonata. There needs to be a recall regarding this issue. It is very dangerous, and could be related to the crankshaft sensor or a number of things, but bottom line, it causes the car to become unresponsive while in motion, and the driver needs to pull over, shut off the car, and turn it on again for it to maybe work, maybe not. This is a horrible headache that needs to be addressed, and i am sure that i am not the only sonata owner with this issue. Here is evidence: http://www.sonataforums.com/forum/hyundai-sonata-engine-technical-discussion/1906-esc-off-light-comes-intermittantly.html so please get it done and issue a much needed recall for this major safety issue before someone gets hurt.

Esc light keeps coming on and then going off. Happens on a regular basis.

While driving home, i braked to turn into my neighborhood and was almost rear ended. My friend whom was following me stated that my rear brakes did not come on when i brake. I attempted to park my vehicle and i could not put the car into park but only neutral, nor could i shut off the vehicle. The key would not turn to shut off the vehicle. I had drive the car to a friends garage, place the car into neutral, detach the battery in order to have the vehicle shut off.

My vehicle continues to have problems with the esc light intermittently lighting up.occurred again yesterday - several times.issue addressed back in 6/18/2011 when the car had 67,604 miles - brake switch was replaced due to the esc light intermittently lighting up. There is a current recall campaign 110 and hyundai recall 13v-113 underway, but my vehicle is not included. I ask that this recall be expanded as i am having these issues with my car at present and hyundai is unwilling to diagnose or fix without the owner paying the cost.this is an issue that was recalled a few yrs ago as well and obviously a manufacturing defect.

Esc light illuminates once the car is started and cannot be turned off by depressing the switch, this also seems to disable the cruise control.

Esc off light comes on a few minutes after starting the vehicle. Resets after vehicle is shut off only to come back on a few minutes later. Additional sometimes cruise cannot be turned on and under no circumstances will engage with esc off light on.

While driving at various speeds the "esc off" light illuminates for no reason.this has happened while driving on the freeway, normal surface streets, and has occurred while braking.power steering goes out randomly during turns while on city streets or highways.took the vehicle to a mechanic who tested the power steering and found no issue with the power steering pump. The pump is in good working order and did not need to be replaced. I had seen other complaints on the steering, with a recall issued, on 2008 and 2011 sonata models, however the 2009 model was not included. This is very dangerous and could cause a crash. On those recalls the computer circuit board in the power steering control unit had become damaged and made the vehicle more difficult to turn possibly causing a wreck.steering issue has been ongoing over the years.

While driving on highway doing around 75mph esc off light come on...

When start the engineering and drive for 2-3 seconds, the esc off light will light and stays on, will not go off. I heard it had recall on 2006-2008 model for this, but not 2009models.

As i was turning the corner from a stop sign, (i believe it may have been wet on the road that morning) i was not turning fast/sharp or hard; kinda slow because of the wet ground and how that road is, i slowly turned corner and then the light flashed on and i looked at my dash and then saw that the esc light came on and stayed on. I drove about another 20 mins to work and the light never went out. After i got to work, i cut the car off and the light went out, but later that evening when i was leaving work, it came back on and has been on ever since and today is jan. 13, 2015. So it has been on a little less than a week now. Need some idea on what is causing it to come on and what needs to be done.

While driving the esc and check engine light comes then it will only let me 'coast' about 5mph.

The motor in the driver side window has gone out. When i told a cousin of mine who owns a sonata said that hyundias are known for that problem, really!!

Esc light still comes on intermittently. Shutting off car and turning back on will make it go off, but does not keep it off. Even after stop lamp switch replacement for the recall, the problem continues. I see many many others with continuing issue and would like to know what's being done to resolve the issue.

Esc light on does not goes when using esc button

I was exiting the freeway and my car engine just died. I couldn't stop and ran through the intersection. My car wouldn't start after that. I had it towed to a garage where they told me the engine had seized up.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the key was in the ignition when she exited the vehicle and the doors erroneously locked. The contact also mentioned that the chrome on the passenger's side front door handle was peeling and tore through the contact's hand.additionally, the steering wheel failed to lock and the vehicle jerked abnormally when shifting down. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the door lock and jerking failure could not be diagnosed and the starter lever needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

The front valve cover gasket leaked oil down to my alternator, causing it to malfunction and making my transmission shift awkwardly.

As i was driving up a hill in a residential neighborhood, the engine started making extremely loud noises and it would no longer respond to the accelerator. This was on a narrow two way street. I had it towed to the local hyundai dealer who said it needs a used motor put in it for $4600 as it has "an internal engine problem" without going in to specifics. Engine had 97,000 miles and car was well-maintained.

The #3 bearing spun causing the car not to be able to run. Similar to the 2011 recall. Now car has a rod knock.

Was backing car out of our garage and the check engine light came on (solid and not blinking) so drove car back into our garage and turned it off.no unusual sounds observed when backing out or pulling back in to garage.from that point on the car would no longer start. Car had to be towed to dealership.110,618 miles and was told engine needed to be replaced as permanent timing chain had jumped time. Dealer could not provide any reason why the chain would jump time.learned that recall exists for newer models of sonatas that have same engine that have issue with internal oil distribution trouble that seizes engine causing timing chain to jump.engine replaced by dealership with used 62,000 mi engine.

Was driving down interstate engine light came on car cut off took all i had to coast to the shoulder had to call tow truck to come get me took to a garage and they informed me i needed a new motor.

There is a transmission problem with hyundai sonata 2009, anytime the car is accelerated the transmission box gets stuck which could lead to safety hazards.

While driving down the street, the car started slowing down with jerking and shaking like motions which was very distracting and caused me to become afraid in the moving traffic. It was obvious that something was going wrong.then i glanced at temperature gauge and noticed it was heating up in the red and ran hot.now it won't run.

My esc & check engine light come on and car stalls and shuts off while driving on streets and the freeway.

Our car, a 2009 hyundai sonota, has had the same engine issues as the hyundai recall set forth on april of 2017. We were told by the dealership, we had to have the engine replaced. The symptoms of the car are identical to those in the 2017 recall, but we were told by the dealership, our vehicle's vin was not included in the recall. We maintained the car properly as set by the dealership (oil changes, etc.).

Engine oil leaks since 2 years ago

Front engine valve cover gasket leaked oil onto alternator causing it to become damaged, which led to poor transmission shifting and then complete loss of all electrical power.

While driving through a deep puddle (3-4 inches), the battery light comes on as the engine stalls and i lose all power accessories. Once i restart the engine, the battery light goes out after a short time and all is good again. This has happened a few times in the last year i've had the car. I am concerned that if it happens at the wrong time, i may not be able to steer away from trouble.

While driving on a freeway at approximately 70mph, my sonata stopped accelerating. I had to pull off the road in the middle of traffic as my car was rapidly decelerating. I turned off the ignition, and after letting it set for a few minutes, i was able to start up again and proceed without trouble. This has happened three times in since, both on a freeway and once on a side street. I am on my way to my dealer today to check this out. Also, i have checked the internet, and found that this is a common occurrence among these models.

I was driving on interstate 75when the check engine light went on.the car lost speed gradually from 60 mph to 10 mph.fortunately i was near an exit and was able to exit and stop at a hotel parking lot.this was a frightening experience since other cars were speeding around me at 70+ mph, then cutting in front of me to exit the interstate.the car has been at the dealer at least three times because the engine light came on with no other result.no reason was found for the problem.the car was towed to the dealer who was closed for the weekend so i'm without a car for the weekend and will have to miss work tomorrow.unknown cause.i'm not able to scan documents.

The car drives normally until you press on the brakes after going high speeds it jerks. At stops if the car isn't in neutral the engine stutters we've replaced the cam shaft sensor 3 times now and that's the code that comes up everytime the check engine light comes on after the jerking. We also replaced the spark plugs and coils hoping it would help the shaking at stops and it didn't.

Check engine light code reads intake valve circuit has low voltage.noticed reduced gas mileage economy and poor engine performance.

Ignition switch engages starter when turning engine off.on several occasions, engine started on its own when key was in accessory position.

I was driving on the highway when i heard something pop inside the hood followed by a loud knocking sound. I lostacceleration power and i had almost gotten hit by semi while rolling to sideof the road. Taken it to mechanic shop said that's my engine rod bearing was broken. Sad since this is my first vehicle.

The vehicle was aqua planning, the driver lost a complete control over the vehicle. The car was bouncing between road sides, left and right - 3 times. The car hit the gate rails 3 times. None of the air bags came out and the seat belts appeared not to be locked at the moment of accident. As a result the passenger's body moved freely in the car and hit the left rib and internal organs, and hit the right side of the face, including cheek bone and nose. The passenger's face was severely bruised and swollen. Besides, both driver and passenger had a whiplash.

While slowing at around 25-30 mph the car would "jerk" forcefully like a sudden stop. This happened every day.it would improve as it warmed up. I took it to the dealership and was given excuses (they told me that the transmission needed flushed-at my expense, my driving habits, etc). Finally after several trips to the service department, they admitted the issue.the transmission was eventually replaced after they "reset"and flushed the original transmission.it seemed to get better.i still feel the "jerk" in the downshift, but it is not as bad as it was. I mentioned this to the dealership and they told me that it was going to cost $100.00 just for them to "look at it" even though it is still under warranty.

Was driving and out of no where the engine light came on and all power was lost.could hardly control the steering.pulled over and waited a moment and started the car again.after two minutes the same problem happened.mechanic said to bring it straight to hyundai and demand a new engine.this should be a recall.very dangerous to happen while driving.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact coasted to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the p0014 code appeared and the cam sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic where the cam sensor was replaced; however, the check engine warning indicator illuminated once again. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who diagnosed that the vivid and rr vivid solenoids needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic and a full service was completed, including flushing the engine with cleanser and changing the oil. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and scheduled an appointment at jim burke hyundai (1424 5th ave n, birmingham, al 35203, (205) 386-959). The vehicle was taken to jim burke hyundai where it was determined that it was not under warranty. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and found codes: p0013 and p0011 (cvvt and assy not holding the camshaft timing). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 79,930.

After i start my car and drive it for less than one mile, my car will stall when i take my foot off of the gas pedal to slow down or stop.this usually happens when i slow/stop the car for the first time after starting.

The contact owned a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving 60 mph, the engine compartment spontaneously caught on fire without warning. There were no injuries. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and deemed a total loss by the mechanic. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was 130,000. ..

Purchased a 2009 sonata in spetember of 2008, the air conditioner does not drain and has developed a mold smell when air is on.returned to dealer, they want to "clean" evaporator with a foam cleaner at a cost of over $100.00.the tech said to drive car in the outside air circulator and not the recycle air engaged, since i refused the "cleansing". 1)was making a right turn into a parking lot. There was a slight incline. There was a quarter of a tank of gas in the car. 2) the engine appeared to turn off, however the electronics never turned off. Power steering was no longer available once the engine stopped running. 3) i attempted to restart the car, but it wouldn't start. You could hear the engine trying to start. I placed the car in neutral and pushed it into a parking space. About 5 minutes later i successfully restarted the car. I had the car towed to the dealership and they could not diagnose the problem or detect that anything had occurred.

The light emitted by the low beam headlights is so focused as to create a tunnel effect. This non-diffused light does not allow for any illumination other than straight ahead and no higher than the level of the headlamp. In conditions of total darkness, it is as if your are wearing a long brimmed cap with blinders. As you drive up or down a hill, the light shines "into" the rise or dip in the road. When going around a corner, the light does not "lead" the vehicle around the bend, it "lags" behind creating a dark zone as the car goes around the bend. When the bright lights are switched on, the tunnel effect disappears. Hyundai has said there is nothing wrong with the lamps or with their design. They contend that it is a design feature of the particular lamps and that they are effective. The vehicle is not safe to drive in the dark.

The third brake light bulb is not easily changeable.

The esc off light is always on.

Esc light comes on intermittently common problem with hyundai. Previous recalls and current recall on some models. Headlights dim but don't automatically shut off when turning off the car thus draining battery leaving dead car.

Within the last year and a half i have replaced the low beam headlights approximately 6 times. 3 times on the right headlight and 3 on the left. My mechanic can not tell me what is causing this. He said it looks like a grounding problem. Have you had any reports of this problem or is this an isolated problem? the cost of these bulbs are getting too much to bear. It seems to be getting worse because i replaced the left light last week and the right light today (12-8-14).

When filling the vehicle with gas it always spills out as if something is blocking the input of gasoline.i would consider this a hazard/safety issue. Many gas station attendants have told me this is a problem they see with most hyundai sonatas possibly of the same year?i've contacted hyundai and they want nothing to do with this.they want you to jump through hoops to have it repaired.

The check engine light came on. When this happened,it became very difficult to pump gas. When i am pumping the gas it backs up and splashes back out the opening. I have to pump very slowly and a little at the time. At times it can take over 15 minutes must to get 10 gallon.i've run into other people at the pump that have told me that they had the experience.

There has been an odor of gasoline entering the passenger cabin of the vehicle. I noticed it is "worse" when i fill the vehicle with gas but the problem occurs more frequently than that. I do not top off the tank. The pump shuts off when full, and i stop pumping. This odor starts when sitting at a stoplight and stays in the cabin until i'm moving again. I thought it only started when i came to a stop at a light and sat for a couple of minutes, however when i was driving home at slow speeds (15-25 mph) continuous, the smell was constant. Lately it is so bad i have to roll down the window. One time, i almost pulled over at the roadside, and was going to get out of my car to get fresh air, but there was too much traffic. There are no fuel leaks that i can find. No standing fuel under the car after i park. It has done this most times i've driven the car to more or less degrees, but not everytime - most times. I have not been to a dealer yet, but i will be taking it in to have it checked. Apparently there are quite a few other owners of this car who have noticed this same thing based on a hyundai internet forums.but i did not have this problem until 2010. I can't imagine that this is not a safety issue with the gas odor. Not only are passengers having to inhale these fumes, but i'm wondering if it could be a potential source of fire/explosion.i'm not so sure these are just very few, isolated incidents. I see a problem starting to emerge. Certainly, i will not drive a car that i have to smell gas fumes nearly every time i drive it, not even to mention the profound safety problem this may cause.

2009 hyundai sonata fuel sending unit.*mwthe consumer stated it has been three month and the smell of gasoline/fumes is still present inside and outside of the car, mostly at the rear passenger side where there was a gasoline spill, after the problem was supposedly fixed. About a month ago, the vehicle stopped running, while the consumer was driving.it all started, when the consumers husband took the vehicle to the dealer, because the check engine light had illuminated and the gas gauge was not registering. The mechanic cleared the engine light and stated the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. The fuel sending unit was replaced for a second time, because the first one was defective. However, the gas gauge still didn't work. Immediately after the consumer left the shop, she stopped for gas and while pumping gas started pouring out from the passenger side onto the ground.the consumer stated the vehicle was taken to the dealer three time, for the same problem. The consumer stated ever since the dealer re-installed the gasket, the same fuel sending unit continued to leak gas.

Went to put fuel in gas tank it wouldnt take the gas it came back out. I thought there was a recall on this but now i cant find it.

Strange gas smell when car is turned on and off. Specially after ridding vehicle and stopping car for a few and restarting. The smell comes thru air vents. Took vehicle to dealer and they stated nothing shows up in their computer. Mpg has dropped to around 24 on highway and city to around 16 mpg and this is a 4 cylinder vehicle. Have been doing some research and have located several sites stating same problem.

While pumping gas it appears to be full(when it is not even 3/4 full tank) gass spills or spurts out on floor and my feet. Very strong smell of fuel in cabin when proceed to driv and clears out after maybe 5-10 miles

Noticed the car does not pull up the steep hill very well. Took to dealer who said transmission oil is dirty and smells bad and it needs transmission flush, resetting of transmission shift points, and fuel system clean .i pointed out these are not per scheduled maintenance requirement and was concerned the car was causing these problems so early in its usage . Will take it for the transmission flush as that is what dealer insists on before they inform me if there is a safety issue present.

Stalls randomly and intermittentlyanytime and at any speed without warning.it happens while cruising on a freeway or stopped on a light.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel started to spew out of the filler neck. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the vent valve canister and filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, two years later the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 102,000 and the current mileage was 125,000.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was viewed by an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. While the fuel pump was being replaced, the technician noticed the fuel connector had caught on fire. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

The car would crank but not start.had this same problem about a month ago, the car finally started after sitting awhile.this time when it happened i could not hear the fuel pump run.i determined the fuel pump was not working.when i went to remove the fuel pump i discovered the actual problem was a defective electrical connection inside the fuel tank.the plastic terminal protection inside the tank was burned through and the terminal melted.this is a very serious condition as it was inside the tank exposed to the fuel, and could have caused a fire or explosion.

Passenger door handle fell off or broke off while opening door strong smell of gasonly after filling car up with gas and small puddleunder rear gastankafter sitting all nightonly happens if tank is more then 3/4 filled

While driving on the interstate in traffic, the check engine light and esc light came on and it was like the gas doesn't want to go to the engine but the car didn't die and moved at no more than 5 miles an hour. This has happened several times over the past4 months and it really hasn't been an issue because normally you can shut the car offfor about an hour and turn it back on and it's fine, however it is a major issue if you are unable to get your vehicle to the side of the freeway and out of harms way. It has occurred over 4 times and it has recently happened twice in one week. I took it to the dealership and they stated that hyundai is aware of this issue and owners can either pay to get the sensor "box" cleaned out, or repaired which costs in the area of $500.00. They know it is the sensor "box", and that isflawed. Why should the consumer have to pay fora defect from the manufacturer.

Intermittent stalls or attempts to stall over the past 5 years. Always stalled when the issue occurred while stationary; attempts to stall while in motion or trying to accelerate. Vehicle has actually stalled on highway. Attempts to restart where successful, however. No trouble code to solve problem but worked fine up until yesterday when the fuel pump failed altogether. Car stalled and would not start while turning in middle of road. Found out from mechanic after it wouldn't start again that it was fuel pump failure but symptoms conclude fuel pump defect from years past.

After i start my car and drive it for less than one mile, my car will stall when i take my foot off of the gas pedal to slow down or stop.this usually happens when i slow/stop the car for the first time after starting.

The contacted rolled the window down and unlocked the door using the outside door handle. The vehicle was taken to key hyundai located at (4660-100 southside boulevard, jacksonville, fl 32216 (904) 642-6060) where the technician inspected the door and determined that the door handle clip fractured and needed to be replaced. In cold weather and when engine is cold, when slowing down, upon reaching 20 mph, the car will jerk very roughly into a lower gear.i took it to pohanka hyundai in virginia stating it was the transmission which they cover for up to 100,000 miles and they said they would not cover it even though my car only had 70,000 miles.this a problem with several cars on the hyundai forums where i initially researched about my problem.pohanka hyundai stated it was a safety bulletin only and not a recall, so i would have to pay for the repair to the transmission.

Engine oil leaks since 2 years ago

Several instances of clutch dropping to floor (usually in high speed urban traffic) making shifting impossible, and leading to pulling on to shoulder and rolling until engine kills at low speed. Have reported to hyundai, and taken to dealer...they say without duplicating the problem, they can't fix. This has now happened about a half dozen times between 10,000 and 44,000 miles. It is dangerous.. I am trying to document with hyundai as much as possible, as they apparently are not interested until someone gets hurt or worse..

I had an issue with my car jerking rather hard with the auto-tranny downshifted from 2nd to 1st gear whenever i slowed down.this somewhat stopped when the car got warmed up, guessing more specifically when the tranny heated up.i see i'm not the only one.i'm in a warmer climate since and haven't seen it but will see how it behaves this winter in austin, tx versus las cruces, nm.i think it may have stopped about the same time a) it got a little warmer out and b) i simultaneously stopped putting in it neutral at stoplights (trying to save my clutch from wear at the time.)perhaps it used this "neutral" info in its computation for the tranny computer and that was this issue.or maybe it was the cold and i still will find i have the problem.or both.not sure but wanted to put this out there since i'm not the only one but am probably the only with the problem who was putting the car in neutral at lights.

This is a 2009 hyunda sonata, bought new in 2009.under 20,000 miles, when the car speed is slowing down, the engines started to give a sudden jerk at around 21 miles.you can feel a sudden impact and it is more noticeable during winter.many trips to the dealership went to no where as the dealer simply ignored the problem and mentioned that they did not notice any issue.after many trips to the dealership at around 45,000 miles in 2014, the dealer finally agreed that it was a problem.updated to a new software based on bulletin from hyundai, mentioned that it would go away.now under less than an year, i started to notice this problem again.

1.on this vehicle the serpentine belt install is a nightmare. It is a defect in design. It is a fixed pulley for tension and your having to stretch with tools and wait until it loosens up. 2. The original pan gasket rtv seal was black . It was extremely hard to take off and it caused some damage to the block as far as dents on the mating surfaces. The oil pan was bent to remove.3. Noises from the power train that were looked at by a hyundai service center and never corrected.

Heard squealing and howling from the rear driver side. Took to dealership and was told that the brakes hung up and i needed to replace brakes and rotor ($189.00). I was told that this is a maintenance issue and nothing was covered under warranty. I purchased the items and when they were going to be replaced we discovered the dust boot was pulled out of the caliper (which would have been covered under warranty) i contacted the dealer and was told that every 7000 miles the calipers would need rebuilt.i've been driving and grew up around garages and never heard of such a thing!

While slowing down the car bucks or jerks the driver forward under 20mph. I brought it into hyundai to check out in june. They said that they would reset the computer and that should address the problem.after that, it made the problem worse.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph she engaged the clutch to change gears however the clutch became stuck and she was unable to complete the maneuver. She proceeded to pump the clutch several times as it began to operate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis however, they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. A week later the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again however, they were still unable to replicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 45,000. The vin was not available.

Jerking when brakeing to stop or when slowing to make a turn. Takenseveral times for service but unable to duplicate the problem, no egine ligt has come on therefore they can not repair. Please we need your help.

My car gear shift locks up.i cannot change gears from park to go in reverse or drive.i have to utilize the manual gear shift override every time i need to change gears. The car will be stationary and i must keep my feet on the brakes at all times as i fear it may shift on its own.it is a continuous problem that began 3 weeks ago.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle would jerk when shifting gears. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the transmission needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was not repaired because the transmission was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 73,000.

Clutch pedal sticks to floor. Very scary. It has happened 6 times. And have taken to dealer. They say all is fine. I could not stop my car. I was lucky there was not anyone in front of me when it happened. My car is a 5 speed mal. I see others with the same problem.

The front valve cover gasket leaked oil down to my alternator, causing it to malfunction and making my transmission shift awkwardly.

While driving my wife's 2009 sonata the clutch became stuck to the floor.i had to use my foot to pull the clutch back up to the normal operating height in order to change gears.i was almost rear ended as the person behind me expected acceleration at the time but i was slowing down due to the inability to switch gears in a timelymanner.this has happened at least a dozen times.the transmission also does not function properly during this problem and is at times nearly impossible to get into gear requiring me to depress the clutch several times before it goes into gear properly.had it to the dealership and they could not duplicate the problem therefore they claim nothing is wrong.they lubricated the linkage and said that was all they could do.i have discussed this with reputable shops in the area and they claim it is certainly a problem with the drive train, but hyundai will not fix this.this is definitely a safety hazard my wife transports both of my children daily in this vehicle.

Erratic shifting. Sometimes lurches forward into a higher gear when coming to a stop, nearly causing me to hit car ahead of me. Also front brake rotors are warped causing rumble. I am an exceptionally conservative driver, mildly accelerates and brakes gradually well ahead of stopping. I had the computer upgrade that was supposed to correct the transmission problem shortly after purchasing car at suresky in goshen, ny. This failed to correct problem and i don't have the time nor want to continually spend my saturdays sitting for hours in the service area waiting room. I have read many similar complaints online and it seems that hyundai chooses not to address this problem. This is my third and will be the last hyundai purchase.

I had to replace the rear brake pads and rotors. The rotors were warped from the pads constantly rubbing on them. Clearly there is a problem here with the number of complaints i see. My mechanic could not believe the damage done to the rotors and told me the front brakes usually wear first. I have also had the vehicle in twice for the rough done shifting that occurs when the vehicle is cold. The dealership reprogrammed the transmission both times but that did not solve the problem. I also had a problem with the esc light staying on but the dealership replaced the rear wheel speed sensor.

My car jerks during braking or downshiftingaround 15-20 mile per hour. It only does this after car has sat for a period of time and stops after engine warms up and has been driven for about 20 minutes. My sonata is automatic.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata.the contact stated that while driving at 10 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and a grinding noise emitted as the esc warning light illuminated.the failure recurred numerous times. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v113000 (exterior lightingservice brakes, hydraulic ).on a separate occasion, the gear lever failed to shift out of park until after several attempts.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 20,000. The vin was not available.

There is a transmission problem with hyundai sonata 2009, anytime the car is accelerated the transmission box gets stuck which could lead to safety hazards.

This is a stick shift car. When pressing the clutch pedal, you can feel that the clutch is not working properly because it is too soft when you press it. You need to pump several times to be able to make it work. Apparently happens more often when the weather is really hot. Brought it to the dealer several times. Could not find anything wrong since the weather at the time of checking was not hot.

I bought the used car in the spring, it currently has 44,000 miles on it.when the weather got cold, it began to jerk violently at 20 mph when i decelerate. When i slow the vehicle it feels as if someone has hit me from behind.when making right hand turns i am concerned that the car will switch gears and lurch me into oncoming traffic. Items on my seat that are not secure are propelled to the floor.i will not let anyone else operate the vehicle because i feel that it would be very easy to lose control of the vehicle during the deceleration. I contacted hyundai corporation- mistakenly told me it was under warranty and then recanted when they realized i was a second owner which only covers 5 years or 60,000.hyundai representative states that this is not a safety issue, that there are no technical bulletins applying to my automobile.refuses to fix it free of charge despite there being countless other complaints of the same nature on the nhtsa site.

Depressed clutch stayed on the floor.pried it up with my foot, it then worked.other times the clutch would not return fully making it impossible to shift gears.pumping the clutch seemed to help.

Throttle stuck wide open when passing a short line of cars, resulting in excessive speeds of over 80 mph before the ignition was shut off and turned back on resulting in normality.

Purchased car brand new first month i had it kept bucking while driving, mainly first thing in morning, while driving felt like brakes are on feels as if something is holding back car from going, won't pass other cars properly no power i complained throughout past years and never showed any problems at hyundai's service center except last time went there with husband who demanded they fix transmission issues as we were not picking up car until fixed.received a call transmission censor was bad and was informed there was a recall on theminstalled a new one and ran fine no problems but it started up again bucking, no power, brakes feel like on.

My car drives when put in drive but would not move when put in reverse. I noticed this when i came out of a shop i visited and tried to back up the car.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact was driving at approximately 35 mph when he attempted to change gears by engaging the clutch but the vehicle would not shift gears. The vehicle then stalled without warning.the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the clutch was replaced. Approximately 500 miles later while driving at 45 mph, the contact attempted to change gears and the clutch became stuck in the depressed position. He had to manually release the clutch by using his foot to release the clutch to continue operating the vehicle. The failure persisted. The vehicle was not been taken to the dealer for further diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 26,500.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the gear shift intermittently became stuck. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 47,000.

The clutch on my 5 speed 2009 hyundai sonata is sporadically dropping to the floor and not allowing me to change gears. I was nearly hit from behind, as the car behind me assumed i'd be accelerating, but when the clutch drops (without much resistance) the linkage locks and i can't change gears. I took it to the dealer today, and he said they had no problem with it, but the after-market floor mat was causing the clutch pedal to get caught. I removed the floor mat when i went to pick-up my car (service department was closed for the day), and, in their parking lot, going from 1st to 2nd gear, the clutch pedal dropped to the floor and i could not change gears, until i hit the clutch a few more times! i went inside to complain to the sales staff. They said i had to bring it in tomorrow. Apparently, hyundai is having lots of problems with their clutches, but they refuse to fix it, because it is costly to take apart the transmission to see what is wrong. We bought the car because of the 10-year power-train warranty! this is dangerous and is an accident waiting to happen!

Front passenger side seatbelt lock is sticking. Very hard to buckle belt into place.

The contact owned a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that he was rear ended, which caused him to crash into the vehicle in front of his. The front driver's seat belt did not retain the contact and he hit his head on the window support pillar. The contact also suffered from whiplash and a concussion. The police appeared on the scene and the vehicle was destroyed. The failure and current mileages were 41,000. Updated8/23/12 updated 09/05/12

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While the vehicle was stationary, the driver's seat belt would not unlatch in a timely manner. It took the contact three minutes or more to get out of the driver's seat due to the faulty seat belt. A dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

2009 hyundai sonata. Consumer writes in regards to vehiclehead rest*tgwthe consumer stated she was involved in a minor accident in a parking lot. As she backed out of a parking space, seconds later she hit another vehicle that was waiting for another space.there was some damage to both vehicles.the consumer soon realized there was a blind spot caused by the head rest on the drivers seat.the consumer stated her view was completely obliterated by the head rest in the rear of the vehicle. The head rest lined up perfectly with the rear windows support on the drivers side and thus hid any car that would be sitting there.

The power seat mechanism will not work to bring the seatback uprighton the drivers side.

Premature wear and replacement was required due to a defect involving the brakes and calipers which may involve defective parts and/or premature corrosion. Brakes and calipers replaced twice in two year period. Rear brake calipers would periodically stick and grind causing brakes to smoke and give off burning smell. Car at times was unsafe to drive due to these problems.

Rear end of vehicle sways around as if driving on ice. Feels exactly like descriptions of issue with recall 13v354000. Hyundai says vehicle is not included in recall.excessive play in rear end, and very noticeable burning smell coming from rear end after driving. Causing excessive wear of rear brakes and tires. Has caused rear brake hoses to fail. Occasionally brake pedal sinks to floor while driving in stop and go traffic. While traveling at highway speeds, vehicle feels as if a gust of wind could send it off the road. Need to do a ton of steering to keep the car going straight. Front end was aligned 25,000 miles ago.

In regards to my vehicles rear disc brakes. From my experience and education it is very unusual for your rear brake pads to wear out before the front do. Do to weight and inertial pushing harder on the front brakes ( this vehicle is much more heavier in the front than the back). My rear pads wore out before and from some research in forums on my model car others have had same experience. I believe there is a defect here and it might involve the proportioning valve sending too much pressure to the rear calipers in comparison to the front calipers. Might of be an adjustment in the valve that is causing issue. I would like an investigation into issue . I can provide assistance if needed in regards to vehicle as subject for testing. 2009 hyundai sonata gls4-cylautomatic trans ,disc pads front and back.

In january, when driving our 2009 hyundai sonata, the rear right brakes made noise and were causing noise and excessive heat to come from brake area, where the wheel was too hot to touch and a smell of hot rubber could be made.when taken into the dealer for repair, the technician stated "found the rear brakes down to metal on metal.causing the concern.technician replaced the rear brake pads and right rear rotor." seven months later in august, the same noise, smell and excessive heat happened again.per the dealer "verified customer concern, technician replaced the right rear brake caliper as needed.installed replacement pads,..."we were fortunate not to be in any accident with these poor brakes.the dealer made us pay for both sets of repairs.this is a manufacturer defect, and should be a no charge repair.

During vehicle operation, several people passed me and made various hand signals and gestures (profane, specifically), as i apparently had lost functionality of my brake lights during my journey home from work.with no indication on the operator console to alert the operator that this had occurred, i did not realize that the brake lights were not functioning until i had arrived to my home (barely averting 2-3 rear end collisions along the way).when i pulled into my drive way and attempted to shift the car from drive (d) to park (p), i was unable to advance the shifter passed reverse (r).i had to place the vehicle in neutral (n) and engage the handbrake.i retrieved a flathead screwdriver to engage the shift lock on the shift console and placed the vehicle into park (p).after learning of this issue, i took the vehicle to the nearest dealership, who advised me that the brake switch was faulty and needed to be replaced.i paid to have it replaced.a short time later, i saw the press release from hyundai that several vehicles were being recalled because of this exact issue, though, after contacting the dealership and hyundai direct, i learned that my vehicle was not part of their campaign.as a degreed mechanical engineer, i maintain that this issue should be part of the recall and consider this to be a design fault of the vehicle.if i had been rear ended, i could have been met by a lawsuit (not to mentioned sustained an injury) because of not functioning brake lights.i've made several contacts with hyundai and they will not budge on their stance that this is a design issue.there must either be a fail safe to ensure that the brake lights are functional or, at the very least, an alarm on the operator console alerting the driver that the brake switch has stopped functioning.i am very appalled with hyundai's behavior and response to this issue.

I had my car towed to the dealership in january after my brakes failed on the way to work.by putting the brake pedal all the way to the floor i was able to stop the car.the dealership told me it was the right rear caliper that had seized.they repaired that caliper, but i expressed my concern for the left rear caliper being damaged and was told that it was "fine."well a few months later, my left rear caliper has seized and i had it towed to the dealership.they tell me that it is no longer under warranty.i told them that this is a known issue and that i expressed my concern about the left rear caliper in january.they tell me that it is up to hyundai to decide whether it will be covered or not.this is ridiculous!peoples' lives are at risk!

Issue 4 rear brakes noise. Traverse rear caliper failed again. Rear rotors, pads, and rr caliper replaced. 28 feb 2019. Bill marsh hyundai repair order 432896.4 replacements of rightrear brake caliper , brake pad, and rotors are excessive and abnormal. This model year sonata should be added to recall for rear brakes. Many more complaints of premature rear brakes failure are noted online for model years 2009, 2010. Brakes get extremely hot and fuel economy suffer greatly when this failure occurs.

Had to replace brakes twice.after reading 200 complaints online, i have discovered it is an ongoing problem with all sonatas.the new brakes have to be ground down to fit the sonata.

Upon accelerating up an entrance ramp to the highway, car accelerated at an unreasonable rate of speed tried using brakes, but they were gone.car hit speeds of 60/65 mph for more than 3 miles on a turnpike.parking brake did not work, brake pedal was down to the floor and i could not control the speed of the auto.after traveling more than 3 miles, in the shoulder, i put the gear into neutral and the car began to slow down and finally stop.towed from turnpike to dealership. Know there have been problems with the 2006 model, but is there anything similar to my experience with the sonata 2009.

When applying brakes, the brakes start sticking, causing the car to jerk.i have taken the car to the dealership for them to tell me they could not see anything that was wrong with the brakes.when i left the dealership, the brakes were doing the same thing.

Rear brake calipers are locking up causing premature excessive wear of the rear brakes. This is undetectable in the drivability of the car until the brake pads are worn so low that they make noise.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the brakes required excessive force in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the rusted brake caliper pin had seized. The rear brakes were replaced and the brake pin was lubricated. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the esc warning light illuminated intermittently. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number 13v113000 (exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed. The failure mileage was 60,000. The vin was not available.

Heard noise from brakes and thought it was front pads.changed front pads but it did not solve problem. Took back tires off to check brakes and much to my surprise there was hardly any pads left. Changed pads and that stopped the noise only to have to bring my car in for service do to the fact that the calipers were not releasing. They kept the car for 2 days and said that calipers were bad. They had to put new brakes on(mine were only on a week) turn the rotors and said my brake fluid was contaminated. 10 yr 100000 mile warranty plus bought extended warranty and i still had to pay for something they call normal wear. Nothing normal about that!also wanted to drain old brake fluid and charge 129.99 for something they had to do when they put new calipers on any way by bleeding the lines. Then to charge 110.00 to turn the rotors. I argued and everyone i talked to said this is guide lines we have to follow. I cant believe there is not a recall on this .i am not the only one that has complained about back brakes causing problems on sonatas. They do not cover parts from normal wear if calipers didn't malfunction i wouldn't have had to have anything done to my car. They deny, deny, deny until someone gets killed. Could be another toyota ordeal!

In april 2013 my rear brakes had to be replaced for inspection.the right rear side was down to nothing, it was rubbing bare metal to bare metal, brakes again rotors.the left side was also more worn than it should have been, but not as bad as the right side.in july 2013 the same issue happened again.the right rear side was rubbing metal to metal, brakes against rotor.the left side was fine.the brakes parts (caliper) were working appropriately.in october 2013 the right rear brakes began squealing and approximately 2 weeks after the squealing began it started making the same grinding noise as it did the previous times and the brakes had to be replaced again.this time, the caliper also had to be replaced.my rear brakes have had to be replaced three times in 8 months.

I have owned this car since july 2014. I purchased the car with 54k miles. I currently have 107k miles and it's october 2016.i have had to replace my brakes 4 times, specifically because the rear brake calipers fail causing brakes to lock while driving producing significant heat and damage to the brake components. The problem also cause a significant loss of fuel economy. It appears this is a common problem on this vehicle and a recall has been put in place starting in model year 2011. The recall needs to be extended to include 2009 model year vehicles

Jerking when brakeing to stop or when slowing to make a turn. Takenseveral times for service but unable to duplicate the problem, no egine ligt has come on therefore they can not repair. Please we need your help.

I have had to replace my rear brakes and rotors twice in 5yrs. The first was in may of 2012. The vehicle had 28,000 miles. There was no warning lights my first indication was a dragging sound. I just had them replaced again april 2014 with 42.000 miles. Again no warning until the horrible grinding sound. Also many times after long trips there is a distinct burning smell. I was told by the dealer that it was my tires. Another repair company told me it was my brakes getting hot. They said that the rear brakes are constantly engaged thus burning the pads and decreasing gas millage. Other people have reported the same problem though hyundai denies it. It is a huge safety issue!!

The rear brake calipers appear to be defective in that a high percentage seem to fail.this is the second caliper that has required repair/replacement, which necessarily also requires replacement of brake pads and rotors.it appears that the calipers stick in the extended position causing (in the best case) the rapid wear of the rotors and calipers, and (in the worst case) a heat build up, and a failure of the brakes.internet blogs indicate that this is not just a problem with my vehicle but is systemic with hyundai sonatas, and particularly 2009 and later.i will note that hyundai had a brake recall regarding calipers for sonatas between 2011 and 2014, but that it did not extend to the 2009 sonatas.

Brake pedal light faulty stays on always.

The problem as reported by so many others that the rear brake system has an inherent failure in the caliper/rotor/brake pads. I have vested nearly $2500.00 on the three for mentioned parts and labor over last 4 years. Between midas and now a private mechanic have tried better lube on slide pins but the problem still persists. A little research states that the caliper piston doesn't retractfrom the rotors and in turn heating up the brake components to the point of failure. Some law firms have stated the problem is a production flaw my problem with a system with this failure rate isn't recognized by the hyundia. Calipers should simply last 80 to a 100 thousand miles under most driving conditions. Looking forward to your response. Kerry yakel

Heard squealing and grinding coming from rear brakes.replaced pads and lubricated pins, now 6/2013 hear the same noise again and this time premature wear of the pads and rotors are warped and falling apart. Also lug nuts are rusted and swollen (this at 45000) just under 14000 after last replacement. I will be taking it to a certified mechanic so the dealershipcannot triple charge for work and tell me it is my fault. We'll see how long this repair lasts. Also had the car in for bouncing in the front...had tires rotated and rebalanced and still does it periodically the dealer said nothing wrong with the front end.

Esc light on does not goes when using esc button

Esc light constantly on no brakes lights.

On july 1, 2014 the rear caliper on the driver's side of my car had seized, stripping the brakes to metal on metal. On august 30, 2014, the rear caliper on the passenger side of the car followed suit. Less than one year later i have replaced each of the rear calipers once again. I had the rear driver's side repaired on may 15, 2015, and the rear passenger side on june 9, 2015. I bought the car with just over 53,000 miles on it in 2013. Today, it has 101,000 miles on it and i have replaced four calipers, three rotors and five sets of brake pads. Each time my calipers failed i was placed in danger of total brake failure and fire, unknowingly. The mechanics who worked on my car have individually theorized that an engineering failure is the cause of this issue. Last week i contacted hyundai for financial reimbursement for the repairs. The company stated that they could not reimburse me since the parts were not replaced with hyundai factory parts, or repaired by a hyundai certified dealership. I am aware that there was a class action lawsuit against hyundai based on this issue in the state of new york. I have also read, and heard about many other people having this exact problem (rear caliper problem) in their hyundai sonatas, built between the years 2006-2010.

Right rear brake makes pulsating rattle sound.seems to happen more after several miles of driving in warm, dry weather. Technicians can't find permanentcure but it did go away for awhile after the rotor was resurfaced. However, the noise has returned. This is the same wheel on which several thousand miles ago the caliper seized causing me to have to replace the entire brake on that wheel. The rattling sound has been going on for a long time, and the mileage i entered for this complaint isa sheer guess.

I purchased my 2009 sonata in march of 2012 at the local hyundai dealership, with about 44k on it.everything was checked off and confirmed as in good working order.a history report showed the brakes being replaced last at 41k miles.i took my car in for its 60k checkup and have been told the rear brakes are shot, and everything needs to be replaced...pads, calipers, rotors, etc.it hadn't made a grinding noise or anything at that point, so i decided to take it to a certified mechanic i usually go to.he confirmed everything and said all told the repair is going to cost me roughly $800!!!he also told me it was a big issue they see only on hyundai's, and that there is no way the rear brakes should ever go before the front brakes need to be replaced because there is so much force that is needed to brake the front of the car compared to the rear.so did research and find out that this is a huge problem with these vehicles.i am not looking forward to replacing my entire rear brake system every 15-20k miles.i will be filing a formal complain with hyundai as well...my hope is if they want to keep their customers, they will do something about this all too common issue!

I own a 2009 hyundai sonata.while operating i noticed a significant decrease in speed, coasting, fuel economy, and braking distance.upon parking my car i smelled burning brakes.as i walked past the driver rear tire i could feel the heat radiating from the tire.i didn't dare touch the rim for fear it would burn me.diagnosis revealed a seized rear driver brake caliper piston.this caused ruined the rear brakes and put undue stress on the front brakes.i had to replace the entire braking system as they had all become a safety hazard.i purchased an extended warranty which covered the rear caliper replacement but nothing else.burning through brakes is a serious safety hazard.i haven't notified the manufacture of the failure.the failure mileage was 73,000.

My steering and brakes suddenly locked up. I had my kids in the car and lucky that it happened right by my house. No traffic. Even the suspension was affected.i immediately got kids out of the car and contacted my insurance to tow the car.

Purchased my 2009 sonata in february 2009, by mid july i had to replace the rear brakes. I was a little surprised since the car was new and only had about 5000 miles. I was told that i was required to check the brakes every 3500 miles and it wasn't covered under warranty, not even the 5 year bumper to bumper warranty.it is now 2016 i have had to replace my rear brake calipers, pads and rotors every 6 months at a cost of over $400 every time. There is a great deal of grinding, heat and massive vibration in the rear while braking to this point. I have returned my car for both current recalls (not applicable to brakes). With so many models having the same issues, its very disappointing that hyundai will not repair their faulty engineering and the nhtsa has not investigated this major safety issue with braking systems in these cars.

Brake light faulty it stays on continuously.

Stop lamp switch replacement. On 01/14/17 i had an appointment at plaza hyundai located at 2700 nostrand ave, brooklyn ny 11210 to replace my stop lamp switch. They did not have the part in stock at that time. The part was ordered on 01/14/2017 and as of this writing (02/17/2017) they have not received the part and have no estimated time or arrival on the part. No one even notified me that the campaign was not completed. I had to come back in the following day 01/15/2017 because my break lights were not turning off.at that time they attempted to charge me for a diagnostic, but i advised the manager that i was there less than 24 hours ago to address the stop lamp switch, which may have been causing the issue. They told me at that time that the part was still on order.they refuse to give me an eta. I called hyundai's corporate office, and they could not get an answer from plaza auto either. This is a serious recall as it effects my ability to signal that i'm breaking. I will attempt to go to another service department or remedy myself, but i think that this is unacceptable.

My 2009 hyundai sonata with about 46k miles had brakes begin screeching with a metal-on-metal sound when braking. In fact, the sound continued when acceleratingafter completing a stop. On friday 12/26/14, the car repair shop replaced the pads and rotors. The next day, the brakes were quiet but overheated to such an extreme that there was a strong burning smell and the wheel could not be touched for fear of burning your hand. Returning to the car repair shop, one of the new rotors was completely black from the extreme heat. The pads, rotor, and calipers required completely replacing - even the new ones just purchased. This is a safety issue that hyundai needs to take responsibility for, issue recalls, and pay for my repairs.

I had a loud scraping noise coming from the rear of my car and for the second time in 2 years, i have had to have my rear pads and rotors replaced.. The first time was in november of 2012.. I am the original owner of this car and this is excessive. I have read 51 other complaints of the same problem. I have had 5 hyundais and not put rear brakes on them until over 100,000 miles..

Returned car to dealer 16 months after purchase due to grinding noise from wheels. Brake calipers had locked up, destroying pads and scoring the rotors.brakes serviced again in 2012 and 2013 for worn pads and grinding noise. Brakes failed again in june 2014 requiring new pads and rotors, front and rear. Returned car to dealer due to a burning smell in december 2014.found right rear caliper had seized. Replaced caliper and pad.again burning smell in january 2015. Dealer found left rear caliper had seized. Replaced caliper, pads, and rotor.contacted hyundai motor america who states this is normal.also state that design defects are not covered under hyundai warranty.

A few mile from home on rural highway drivers side rear brakes suddenly seized lurching the vehicle, transmission down shifted, engine rpm went way up. Upon arriving at home, brakes were smoking hot and on inspection brake pads and metal almost gone, rotor had thinned to 1/4 ", and metal powder was all over the rim, side and rear of car.

The car has had four rear caliper failures.these caliper failures have also consumed three sets of rear brake pads and two sets of rear rotors.the failure appears to be an excessive wear/slow to release condition that creates an overheating of the brake system, which has symptoms of a burning smell from the brakes and the rim of each wheel being far too hot to touch.once we noticed the most recent failure, we noticed that the burning smell can start within about 1/2 mile drive.

The right rear brake pad was worn down paper thin and caused the rotor to be scored.after the rotor and pads where replaced the same passenger read wheel began to burn and caused a very pungent order. Large amounts of brake dust also began to collect on the wheel. This same problem has already been reported by others.

The brake light switch is not functioning/broken causing the brake lights to stay on and esc button is not functioning.

Driving on the interstate, 'esc off' light came on; at the same time, the cruise control quit working and i noticed that the brake lights all quit working at the same time.

The rear calipers mounting bracket is holding the brakes way to tightly to the rotors so they are constantly being applied.the only way to prevent this from happening is to manually grind down the sides of the brakes to make them fit properly.i found this out when i changed my brakes before a long car ride (approx 4 hours).the brakes were holding the car back and throwing off my alignment.bought vehicle with 49000 miles with new brakes.replaced them at 68200.currently has 69200 and i have to replace the brakes again because the hot friction completely ruined the brakes.my wife is pregnant and i do not feel safe knowing my brakes might burn out at some point and fail.

I hadmy rear brakes and rotors replaces in february 2012 at around 60k miles. In october 2012 again my car felt like it was dragging and i heard the tell tale squealing of the brakes so i took it back to the repair shop to be told my rear brakes and rotors again were worn out and chewed through, and no that my calipers had seized and i would need to pay yet again to have this issue repaired. The mechanic made a comment that the only time he'd ever seen this before was from young people doing "power slides" on their cars, something i would never do (i am 28 years old). Upon research i find this is a well documented problem when searching online for break problems with this car for model years 2006-2010, enough that there is even a class action lawsuit in new york. Hyundai needs to recall and repair these vehicles as well as reimburse for the expense of fixing these up until they issue the recall.

I purchased my 2009 hyundai sonata in august 2009. In december 2011 i took my car to the dealer for a routine oil change and asked that the brakes be looked at because they were squeaking and the pedal felt soft. I was not sure what the mileage was but i think it was at 34k. I was told that i needed rear and front brakes. I was told my rear brakes were completely gone and my front brakes were at 30 to 40%. Due to financial reasons, i had them fix the rear brakes that day and took the car back to have the front brakes fixed in march 2012. Since that time the pedal is still soft and when i am driving in city traffic the car stops like i need brake, even though i have paid $400 in the last six months for new brakes. I have on more than one occasion had to pull off the road for fear that i would hit the car in front of me. After an exhaustive fight with the dealer i was basically told this was the design of the car. I consider this a huge safety issue and i guess it will be like the toyota and/or firestone incident. When someone dies because their car will not stop, then someone will take notice.

Hello, 2009 sonata: the esc off light comes on. If i shut the car off and re start, the dash light goes out sometimes; may return the next time i start the car. I heard that this is a common manufacture defect. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. After the vehicle was parked, an abnormal odor was present outside the rear driver side of the vehicle. The contact also stated that a grinding noise was heard while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the caliper failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred after 7,000 miles. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The vin was not available. ...updated 05/17/17

There is a serious problem with the rear brakes on this car and the dealer charged me $550 to fix a problem that should have been covered by a recall as with some of the other sonata brake problems.

In february of 2015, less than 2 months after i purchased this vehicle used, i noticed the left rear tire was screeching when in motion like a belt in the engine would. I took it to a hyundai dealership where they made me aware that the caliper had locked up and needed to be completely replaced & repaired along with a brand new rotor. I figured this was just a one time issue, until just this month (february of 2016) less than a year after repairing the caliper and brake system in the left rear tire, a strong burning smell was appearing periodically from the right rear tire after any drive. Took the car to the same hyundai dealership who made me aware that the caliper was now locked up in the right rear tire and needed to be completely replaced and repaired. In both circumstances i was told that the vehicle was absolutely unsafe to drive off their lot and had to get a rental car to leave the car for repairs. I did my research... Apparently this same make/model/year has given lots of people the same issues.. But no recall has been made. This is incredibly dangerous and in both circumstances i was driving the car with my car seat aged toddler in the back seat. Please help me get to the bottom of this!!

I have owned this car for the past 50000 miles and have replaced the left rear caliper 4 times, right rear caliper 2 times.the rear calipers have a problem of sticking cause the rear brake pads to prematurely wear out.it appears that the protective rubber boot will pinch on the caliper and prevent it from releasing, hyundai states this is normal.i have gone through also 4 sets of pads in the rear, and none in the front.as usual the car dealer admits to nothing, and will do nothing to help.

Was driving and noticed a burning smell in the car. Stopped and could find anything wrong. So we drovehome,at maybe 15 miles from home we noticed a scraping sound. And could not drive any further, being late at night we called a friend who has a tow truck and is mechanic. Told us the brake pads were wornand was scraping metal to metal.he towed us home for $25.00 when we got homewe called roadside service they towed it napleton hyundai in calumet city illwe purchased the car from, family hynudai 8101 w 159th st tinley park ill the vehicle was a used trade in with 39,736 milespurchase date was 2/18/2012. Upon inspection at napleton hyundai we were told that the left rear brake pad had hung up in holderand that we needed to replace it and rotor. The right pads were fineand hardly any wear at all we were told the warranty does not cover that.why should one side gobad and not the other.unless there is a defect some where.

Complete break system as been done as well as tires with rotations, having to replace brakes and rotars often.continues to pull hard to right while driving and is far from a smooth ride.when breaking the car feels to pull forward. The emergency break does not work at all. This feels like a never ending issue. The car seems to sit low on one side, have to take it to get looked at.

I have a major problem with my brakes. While driving they will suddenly go out. I have to press the pedal almost to the floor to try and stop the car. My car was repaired in september 2015, november 2015, december 2015 and my brakes went out again on yesterday, february 15, 2016 while on the highway. This is a serious problem and could end up being a deadly problem.

Rear brake calipers have seized at least 7 times, causing me to need to replace them.i'm at 115,000 miles and have had the left one seize, destroying the rotor and pad 4 times, and the right one seize 3 times (once recurring within 15,000 miles of replacement).the car has been repaired at different shops, but the problem keeps recurring.first time occurred shortly after 30,000 miles.occurs every 1-2 years since then.most recent occurrence is now (car is being repaired this morning, left rear caliper/rotor/pad).noticed massive shimmying this time.previous times have been noticed from: grinding noise, car won't accelerate over 10 mph (locked in engaged brake mode that time), and severe bucking while being driven.

Brake caliper failure.right rear brake caliper locked up when slowing. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and determined that all of the brake calipers had significant and premature corrosion which is causing the brakes to stick and the vehicle is not safe to drive. He also suggested that the car be taken to the dealer for service because based on his research the brakes on this model vehicle were likely defective from the factory and he wouldn't be able to fix them properly using factory or aftermarket replacement parts.he speculated that since the dealers have been inundated with this problem, they may have some installation tricks using the defective hyundai calipers.the independent mechanic then spoke with a hyundai dealer service rep and they stated that "this is common in areas where road salt is used, even for sonatas with lower miles and the best they could do was to clean the calipers." i'm bringing the sonata to the dealer on saturday, august 27 for repair but i don't feel safe in this vehicle based on the discussion with the dealer.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated the rear brakes were wearing prematurely. The vehicle was being examined by an independent mechanic during routine maintenance when the failure was diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the brakes were replaced. The dealer did not state why the rear brakes were wearing prematurely. The contact also stated it was unusual for the rear brakes to wear before the front brakes. The failure and current mileage was 11,400. Updated 05/24/11*ljupdated 05/26/11

Ibrought my 2009 hyundai in for 16,500 mile check and was informed that my rear brakes failed and the brake shoes and rotor needed replacement. I told them i had not noted any symptoms of or sound of brake failure and would get a second opinion. At 18,701 miles i noticed noisewhile breaking and returned to the dealer the service manager suggested the damage was caused by driving with the emergency brake on.i told him that i do not ever need to use the emergency break and surely didn't drive with it on! he then said it was caused by rust. I wouldn't expect rear brakes to fail at 16,000 miles. After checking on-line i found it is a common failure with sonata. I had to pay $423.00 to repair what i consider to be a design or manufacturing defect.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the brakes would emit a grinding noise whenever they were applied. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on several occasions where the brakes and calipers were replaced; however, the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 40,000.

I am the owner of a 2009 hyundai sonata. The brakes (rear) are supposedly worn out at 16,000 miles even though the front brakes are "like new". From reading on line there is a problem with these brakes that hyundai refuses to ackowledge or repair. I believe that it is time for the nhta to force the issue. How is it that a manufacturer can stonewall everyone when it is obvious that there is a design defect? all any of us get from hyundai is that htey understand our concern but they will do nothing.

I have a 2009 hyundai sonata with 45000 miles on it.the first time i replaced the pads in the rear at 10,000 miles . I have replaced the rear brake pads an additional 3 times and the front pads only once. I have been a mechanic and automotive technology instructor for over 45 years an never had a vehicle wear out rear brakes faster than the front ones without something major wrong with the system. I have checked the calipers and they are not dragging the pads against the rotors. The first time i reported the problem to the service manager he said this was normal, i don't think so!

I have a 2009 hyundai sonata and a grinding noise started coming from the back passenger side while i was driving the car. I took it to the hyundai dealer and they said my brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. I purchased the car used, a little over a year ago, from the dealer with about 13,000 miles. It now has 37,000 miles, the majority being highway miles. I took my car to another car repair shop because the price i was quoted from the dealer seemed unreasonably high. The place i took my car to told me that while inspecting the car they noticed that the passenger side caliber was stuck and that they were able to unstick it.the mechanic said he would need to replace the passenger side rotor and the brake pads. He said i should think about replacing the calipers. I asked why they would go bad this soon. He said it could be a defect, that there has been a defect reported with the hyundai santa fe calipers. I asked him if this is something that should be covered under my car warranty. He said i should check with the dealer. From everything i've read on the internet the calipers should not go bad this soon. If they do, they cause the very problems i am having. I contacted the dealer and told him what the other mechanic found in regard to the caliper. He told me there was nothing wrong with the caliper when they looked at it. The funny thing is that the price the dealer quoted me to repair just my brakes and rotors is the same price the other mechanic quoted me to repair the rotor, brakes and calipers. I am having just the brakes and rotors done at this time since according to the dealer there is no problem with the calipers. If they are not telling me the truth, i will be having this brake problem again.

After having brake pads changed. Smelled burning smell with in a month and brake pads were worn down. Had pads changed again. Now, month later, smelled burning smell again like the pads are sticking. There is something wrong with these brakes that they are sticking like this under 50,000 miles.

The brake lights do not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed.the gear shift not able to be shifted out of the park position. The electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light illuminates.very similar to recall for same model on another year (2006).

As i was driving in city traffic, i noticed a grinding noise coming from the rear as i applied the brakes. It became worse as i continued to drive and brake, so i parked the car as soon as i could. I brought it into the dealer. They said the rear brake pads were completely worn away. They said i needed new rear brake pads and rotors, because the rotors had become too damaged to use. I had the hyundai service department replace the rear brake pads and rotors. There was no indication (i.e. A typical "squeal") that would have alerted me to wear on my brake pads. They were simply gone. I have serious concerns about this incident, as brake failure could have occurred had i not stopped driving and gotten my car to the service department as soon as possible. 38,000 miles is far too early for rear brake pads to be completely worn away. I do not know of any other vehicle where the rear brake pads would have completely worn away at such low mileage. I suspect a manufacturing defect has led to premature rear brake wear. This could have led to a serious accident.

My 2009 sonata has 44000 miles and the rear brakes are grinding. They need to be replaced but the front brakes look brand new. I have been working on cars for over 40 years and have never seen or heard of anything like this before. Rear brakes just don't wear out faster than the front ones. I have an appointment tomorrow at the dealer but they told me it is not a covered item but a wear item. There is a problem with the calipers sticking and causing the brakes to wear out. Routine maintenance would have taken care of the problem. What routine are they talking about?it is not on the recommended list at any mileage in my owners manual. Thanks god it is only something like brakes and not something important like the radio going out. Sarcasm is how i deal with stress.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I own a 2009 hyundai sonata limited edition. I bought it on april 8, 2010 and it had 21k at the time of purchase. On july 17, 2011, (now at 47k miles) i noticed a squealing noise coming from the tires as they went around. This noise got progressively worse over the next 3 days and i brought it in to the dealership where i purchased it. (i also purchased a great 7yr warranty which covers basically anything except for routine maintenance items.) i dropped the car off on the evening of july 21, 2011 and the next day the dealership called me to inform me what was wrong with my car. They said the caliper slides were hanging up and it had caused all my brakes and rotors to need to be replaced. They offered to fix "my problem" for $520. I asked how this could possible be my fault, i've owned several cars and i've never once heard of lubing the caliper slides. They said that this was routine maintenance and would not be covered under my warranty, even though my warranty specifically states that it covers faulty calipers. Then i found this website: http://www.sonatabrakedefect.com/index.php/sonatadefect/sonatacomments.htmland i realized i wasn't the only one experiencing this problem. As i read further on i realized that hyundai will not cover this defect but recommends that you pay them to have your caliper slides lubed every 15,000 miles. When i picked my vehicle up, which i did not allow them to fix, i asked why i was never notified that this was a required service in order to prevent this issue. I received no logical answer. I also asked them to show me where in my owners manual under routine maintenance it stated that the caliper slides needed to be lubed and they could not show me. They said if i had brought my vehicle in to them for maintenance that it would have been taken care of. The wear on the brakes is completely ridiculous and unsafe. All pads are worn unevenly and in excess. All of my brakes are destroyed and must be replaced at this point.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving 35 mph there was a squeaking and grinding noise in the brakes. The pin that controls the brake pads and rotors became worn. The pin also controlled the movement in the brake calipers and when it does not move it deteriorates the calipers and rotors. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that she had to replace the brakes at her expense since they were not covered under the warranty or recall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vin was unavailable.the failure and current mileages were 28,000.

2009 hyundai sonata rear driver side brake noise due to the "sliders" on the caliper.i took my car to the dealer (car has 35,000) to pin point noise. They told me there is uneven wear on rear break pads and that the sliders are sticking causing the pads to stay compressed to rotor.they offered to "lube" them for me and replace pads for over $200.00.this is not normal wear and tear.

Premature rear brake wear at 22k onoct 2010 caused failed safety inspection at dealer. Inside rear brake pads rubbing. Replaced pads and cleaned sliders myself and passed inspection.rear brake pads hung again on mar 2011 causing hot wheel.i replaced the sliders with new and filed the metal tabs of pads and used anti-seize compound to prevent sticking. If this doesn't work i'll contact hyundai for caliper failure.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that after taking his vehicle to a certified dealer for regular service, they informed him that his rear brakes were worn due to the caliber sensor failing. When the caliber sensor failed, the wheels would lock up if not replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that when the vehicle was taken to the local mechanic for routine maintenance he stated that the passenger rear calipers were stuck and unable to rotate due to corrosion causing the brake pad guide to fail. The mechanic replaced the brake pad guide. The manufacturer filed report 4243771. The failure mileage was 20,442 and the current mileage was 20,618.updated 3/14/11 updated 04/22/11

Rear brakes are worn out at 19,7000 miles the calipers are worn out and my front brakes are perfect.. Front brakes usually wear out before rear brakes what is going on... This should never happen giving us low gas mileage these faulty calipers hyundai should pay this could result in a crash due to a faulty brake system.

Rear brakes:rubbing, grinding, premature wear and reduced breaking effectiveness. Replacement of rear rotors andpads were required replacement to pass safety inspection.dealer informed me that the calipers were not seized or sticking but that dried out lubrication on slides, pins, shimswas the cause of the wear.

My 2009 hyundai sonata with 15000 miles on it started to have noisy rear brakes. I took it to my local hyundai dealer and was told that because this had been a rental vehicle it may have sat on a lot for an extended period of time and the "slides" froze in place not allowing the brakes to release resulting in premature brake and rotor failure. I believe this is a life/safety issue and should be a recall issue. I don't think a vehicle should have to be driven a minimum number of miles to prevent the brakes from failing in 15000 miles.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While the contact wasdriving approximately 35 mph entering onto a highway into theleft lane, unexpectedly the vehicle increased acceleration andthe brakes would not function when engaged. The brake pedalwas applied repeatedly, followed by no power response.after placing the gear selector into the neutral position the vehicle began to reduce speed. The vehicle was driven into a parking lot and the gear was shifted into the park position and the vehicle came to a stop. The contact was waiting on the roadside assistance for the vehicle to be towed to an authorized dealer at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 17,300.

The rear brakes on the sonata are not releasing fully causing excess wear, brake noise and premature replacement. I bought the car with appx 20k miles on it so i don't know if the rear brakes were replaced before purchase. For me the first replacement came at 31,514 miles, the second about 18,000 miles after that (49,465) and once again about 1500 miles later at 50,973. Hyundai does not recognize this as a problem and refuses to replace them under warranty. Any brake pad/rotor system that fails at an average of 20k needs to be recalled.

Rear brakes failed on 2009 hyundai sonata... Also had lot of noise, grinding, was able to stop car because front brakes did work.took to garage to have pads/rotors checked told it was dealer issue car too knew/low miles. Still replaced one rotor and pad as totally gone.one tire would not rotate properly. Went to dealer - dealer finally admitted caliper defective on rear brakes - told car not drivable parts not in stock - drive car home - will call when parts in. Brakes very, very hot. Rear brake turning on and off at will.

I was told by the dealer on 3/6/12, that the rear brakes were seizing up and that i would need new rotors due to extreme rust and new pads after only 16,500 miles.

2009 hyundai sonata.consumer writes in regards to vehicle brakes recall notice. The consumer asked the dealer why had he not been notified of the recall, and the dealer replied, that colorado was not one of the states included. It only covered the east coast, because of the harsh winters and salt used on their highways.the consumer stated on several occasions, he had to take the vehicle to the dealer, to have the brakes replaced.

I have a 2009 hyundai sonata that started making noises when braking at about 18000 miles. The first time i was told it was the rotors and i paid to have those turned(?). The noise went away for a couple of weeks. The next time i was told it was debris on the brake pads.(really?) the noise again went away for a week or two. Next i was told the calipers needed to be adjusted. Again, a couple of weeks till i heard the noise again. The next repair was new front pads that my dealership got approved from hyundai warranty. Again no noise for a couple of weeks. Now, at 36000 miles i need rear brakes.in between the times my car was repaired, i also took it to the dealership at least 6 times when they either could not hear a noise or could not find the noise.i live in florida, no salt on the roads. Most of my miles are highway miles. I have never had a car need rear brakes before 100,000 miles, even in connecticut. I have looked up hyundai brake problems online and found numerous complaints about the brakes. This should be made a safety issue, not a maintenance issue.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted a squeaking noise while driving. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic, who performed an inspection. The contact was informed that the rear brakes were prematurely worn due to defective calipers. The brake pads and rotors were replaced. The mechanic repaired the calipers until they were in working condition. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 26,700. The consumer was informed the rear pads and rotors were completely worn due to rust on the rotors even though the front brakes were in good condition. Updated 06/04/12

The right rear brake pad was worn down paper thin while the other rear pads were only 30% worn.upon further inspection, i found the pad was stuck to the pad mount/anchor.it was so stuck i had to remove the whole caliper and hammer the old pad out.when i explained my situation to the dealer, they said it was a common problem and that i should bring my car in every 15000 miles to inspect and lube my brakes.i explained to them that the owner's manual says nothing about disassembling and re-lubing my brakes every 15000 miles.i also commented on how unrealistic it is for every sonata to need a brake lube every 15000 miles.the service representative blew off my concerns.i'm sure the dealership would love to sell everyone a brake lube every 15000 miles, but that's ridiculous, especially for a safety item such as brakes.this safety issue needs to be addressed.

2008 hyundai sonata with under 25,000 miles on it already needs a rear brake job. Was told by our dealer that it is normal because it is a front wheel drive. Was told hyundai will not stand behind it, however, some dealers will fix it for no charge because it is so ridiculous. The dealer we bought the cars from will not.

Right rear brake pads froze in the pad mounting bracket and wore down prematurely causing metal to metal contact between the brake pad backing plate and the brake rotor.both my local dealer (suresky hyundai of goshen ny) and hyundai motor company refused to repair my vehicle under warranty.they asserted that "normal maintenance items", such as brake pads and rotors, were only covered for 12 months/12,000 miles.with all due respect, brake pads seizing on one wheel while the other 3 wheels are fine is not a normal maintenance event!

Rear brake failure on a 2009 hyundai sonata. Brake slides clog with dirt or rust causing them to become inoperable. They either get stuck in the applied position which causes them to wear to the point of metal to metal causing extreme heat and possible fire or they stick open and do not engage when applied.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. After the vehicle was parked, an abnormal odor was present outside the front driver side. The contact also stated that a grinding noise was present while the brake pedal was depressed. The dealer diagnosed that the caliper failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred after 7,000 miles. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving at aspeeds of 20 mph, the rear brakes failed causing the brake pads to fracture and separate from the vehicle. The calipers were rubbing into the rotors, causing it to make an unusual grinding noise. The front brakes were not affected, allowing the contact to bring the vehicle to a stop. The brakes and rotors were replaced by an authorized dealer. The failure mileage was 60,000.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving 30 mph and attempting to make a right turn, the steering wheel failed to turn. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (maple hill auto group, 5622 w main st, kalamazoo, mi 49009) where the dealer found no issue with the power steering. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact also stated that the failure recurred several other times, but the failure was not frequent. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

When running sometime the steering wheel will be hard to turn when turning left or right, i contacted hyundai for this is part of the recall on all hyundai sonata built on december 2009. But hyundai is telling me that it not cover by the recall on the steering wheel problem. What do i have to do to fixed this problem. ...updated 04/11/17

Both of my 2009 sonata's have/had the same problem. I gotten rid of 1 of them. Power steering goes out intermittently when turning. Dealer never documented but did put power steering fluid in. 2011 sonata's did have a recall. Hyundai said out of warranty now as it has 117k miles. Both my 2009 sonata's had the problem, i wife got rid of hers last year. Plese make hyundai do the right thing....driving is unsafe with faulty steering.

When i went to start my car i could not start my car the key switch keeps locking and then the steering wheel will lock up when u are trying to get the key out and i was even pushing on the brake to get it to release the lock it took five minutes to finally to get the key to turn to start the car. I have had it one day where i could not turn the car off and the key was stuck in it and the dealer ship could not even get the car to shut off or get the key to turn it was also stuck in it . I'm worried about being somewhere where i can't start the car or the key stuck in it and it's locked up all together for good i've heard there been complaints about the same problem and if it's gonna be fixed or not

Steering wheel would locks up for a second or 2 while making a right turn around 15mph then i would have to let my foot of the gas just to get the steering wheel back to normal. Had this happen too many times already. Tried fixing the problem by having a mechanic shop change the axles and buying a new rack n pinion and tires and getting a aliment done in march of this year. Steering is still gets stiff while making turns even with all the new parts on the car now

Power steering gets stiff and makes it hard to turn intermittently. I took it to dealership for them to charge me $145 just to say nothing is wrong.

In spite of following manufacturers guidelines for tire inflation and following proper rotation timetables and having the car aligned this car eats tires.i have replaced all four tires 5 different times in less than 100,000 miles.i purchase premium, name brand tires with a mileage rating of 60,000 miles.in 2011 i took my car in for alignment at a hyundai dealership.they informed me that "all lower control arms, cam bolts and bushings seized due to rust; can't align properly.i had a platinum extended 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty through hyundai. The dealership called to advise of the extended warranty.the adjuster came and inspected and "extended warranty denied coverage as rust was the cause, they will not pay for repairs."the dealership argued that this is the northeastern part of the us and we have snow and the roads are salted in the winter.dealership felt this should have been covered and tried again but coverage denied.as the owner i called the about the extended warranty and was also denied.because correct alignment is not possible due to rust issues there is a handling/stability problem in the vehicle caused from rusted alignment components.i have followed proper scheduled maintenance but due to the propensity of rusting this hyundai sonata has deteriorated worse than comparable automobiles therefore causing a safety concern and a resulting loss of value.it is interesting to note that this car is exposed to northern salted roads minimally.i leave the north the first of january and head south and return in early april and have done so for the past 3 winters.

Vehicle sitting in drive way. Gear shift wont wont move, and ignition key won't turn to start engine .seems to be a problem with ignition switch

Driving car and pulled in parking space, put in reverse to turn around and steering column was totally disconnected. The steering wheel just went round and round and i had absolutely no control of the car. Had i not been in a parking lot it could have been a fetal crash in the 8 am work traffic.i find on the consumer report web site that this has happened to others as well.however my dealer charged me for all the repairs and a towing fee.i have no faith in this car anymore.

My steering and brakes suddenly locked up. I had my kids in the car and lucky that it happened right by my house. No traffic. Even the suspension was affected.i immediately got kids out of the car and contacted my insurance to tow the car.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 40 mph, the steering wheel started to turn left and right independently and the traction control and electronic stability control warning indicators illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, but did not power off the engine. The contact slowly drove to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the crossmember was corroded and the rear driver side wheel almost detached. The vehicle was towed to suresky hyundai (2 hatfield ln, goshen, ny 10924, (845) 294-5177) where it was diagnosed that the crossmember was corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

Power steering failed totally on 1/12/15--manual hard steering worked. In september i took sonata in for stop light recall and also had a 4 wheel alignment done. Got 5 minutes down the road when the esc light came on which was supposed to be a problem in the recall. I took it right back and they said something probably didn't get reset after the alignment. Ever since the power steering was very tight and sometimes intermittent until the car was warmed up. Computer check showed nothing wrong. Worked well for about 4 weeks and then power steering totally disappeared on 1/12/15--car was towed to hyundai dealer. Diagnosis: coupler seized up--maybe corrosion or wear???i had a truly perfect car when i went for recall now i have a huge repair bill. I am the only driver of this garaged car with low mileage--something doesn't seem right with this whole scenario. Could the rot that is reported in a second recall of the rear be also happening in the front end?

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized. The contact stated that the failure had gotten progressively worse and became a frequent failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000. Updated 05/10/16*ljthe consumer stated the steering eventually returned to normal. Updated 05/11/16.

Steering is locking up in turns while turning on the highway! this is very dangerous! just called dealership & there was no recall on this however if you search steering problems on the internet it's a very known problem for these cars! something needs done!

The steering goes in and out of power steering at slow to medium speeds from aug 2014 to today.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 mph, the steering wheel was difficult to turn in either direction. The contact stated that turning to the right was more difficult. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 149,000.

When starting the car, engine makesscreeching loud noises mostly on cold cranks. The ignition switch by passes the alt position and starts the car. Makes loud noise like starter is not releasing.

I believe that the hyundai sonata 2009 a has a paint defect problem. I now have 12 paint chips on the hood which i believe are the result of paint flaking off. I do not recall once hearing a rock hit the hood and yet i have 12 chips and now one similar chip near the trunk. There are no dents that would indicate rocks or other objects hitting the hood.i took the car to the dealer and spoke to the manager who told me that they were a result of normal wear.i do not agree and a quick look through the internet indicates that i am not the only one with the problem.

The "chrome" plating is peeling off of the interior driver side door handle used to open the door. The peeled plating has sharp edge and i cut my finger on it.i certainly hope this will be covered under the 5 yr bumper to bumper warranty.

The dashboard on the passenger side has two large cracks in it.it is very unsightly and should not have occurred.the cracks are becoming larger with time.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While in park, the contact noticed multiple cracks along the dashboard. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer wasnotified of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000. Updated 07/12/16*ljupdated 08/03/16.

The entire dashboard is cracked in many places.these are deep cracks and more are occurring.hyundai should replace the entire dashboard.

Exterior door handles break when opening the door to enter the car while the car was parked. Currently the front passenger side exterior handle and the rear passenger side handle has broken.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While the vehicle was stationary, the dashboard fractured directly above the passenger's air bag. Wallace automotive in stuart, florida 34997 was made aware of the failure and took pictures of the dashboard. At the request of hyundai, the dealer did not perform a repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 60,000.

As i tried to open my passenger front side door this morning i pulled the handle off. The portion of the handle that connects into the latch mechanism had snapped off in the door. I would just take it in and get it fixed, but this is the third time i have had this exact problem, having lost the passenger rear handle earlier this summer and the driver's front about a year and a half ago. I can only conclude there must be a distinct defect with the construction on the doors of this model, and searching around the internet i've found a handful of other people who have had the same issue with their sonatas.

The paint has been peeling off my car for over a year exposing the bare metal. They obviously did not use any primer on the car, so when i apply touch up paint, it won't stick.how are they allowed to get away with this?it's a financial disaster for consumers. I saw many other complaints here about the peeling paint yet the company still gets away with doing nothing.

The paint began to come off on the front of my car 3-4 years ago.finally took it to hyundai complaining that it must be a defect since:1) no accidents, 2) do not park under pecan trees, 3) no hail damage.there was no reason for the paint to come off to the point that the hood had almost started to rust through.cost me $597.80 to have it stripped, repainted, etc.

The chrome "wrap", which is a chrome colored covering on the driver's side door handle became detached leaving a razor sharp edge, which cut my hand when i tried to open the door with the door handle to exit the vehicle.i have had to use a glove or exercise care to open the door.according to reports posted on the web, hyundai had issued recalls for earlier year models but has refused to for newer models even though the same problem occurs in the newer models and isn't just manifest in the driver's side door handle but occurs in other handles as well. The dealer claims that the defect is not covered by hundai's warranty because my vehicle is "way out of warranty."

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that when the vehicle was taken for routine maintenance, the technician discovered that the sub frame, control arm, sway bar in links, and the rear assist arms were severely corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 43,600.

The 2009 sonata has excessive rust on the front frame that holds up the engine and transmission.i do not live at the beach, and is only on the passenger side of the vehicle.it has never been in an accident.it was found by a mechanic during routine maintenance.chunks of frame were falling off as we were inspecting the rust.it is being replaced due to eminent, catastrophic failure.the mechanic said the only time he has ever seen this is on 20-25 year old beach cars.

Paint is blistered & peeling off in big chunks. Primarily the hood, roof & truck. Vehicle is pearl white in color

The paint just peels off the car when driving. I brought the car to 3 different auto body shops and all 3 said the primer is bad. This is causing the paint to peel off to the metal. Hyundai will not ever look at the car to inspect it for bad primer.

The drivers side interior door handle is made of artificial "chrome".a few days ago, i opened the door and got a severely lacerated finger which bled a lot.i wrote to hyundai about my injury.they sympathized, but said the car was out of warranty.as my vehicle only has 31,186 miles on it and is housed in my garage, i did not expect to be injured by a defective door handle on a pristinely maintained vehicle. This is a known issue, as i have found hundreds of posts on the internet about injuries from this handle.nhtsa has previously issued a recall for earlier model hyundai's with this same problem.here is one of the many quotes that i found...."hyundai is recalling 91,000 sonatas because the chrome plating on the upper edge of the interior handle may wear, "causing cracking or separation between the chrome plating on the inboard and outboard surfaces of the handle." nhtsa says the sharp edge can cause "laceration injuries to anyone using the door handle."please let me know what can be done before more people are injured by this defect.thanks so much![xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My husband was driving this car when it started pouring heavily. After reaching home, he noticed that the paint on the roof and two places on the hood had peeled off, leaving the metal exposed. The car body started to rust within a few days of this incident. I contacted my insurance company and they evaluated the issue as a manufacturer defect and refused to pay for the damages (close to $1100). Upon contacting the manufacturer, i found that they do not cover paint for more than 3 years after purchase of the vehicle. I am left with a huge out-of-pocket expense, and being a student, that caused a huge dent on my finances.

The door handle came of the back door, i have never knownthe door handle to just come off the door of a car.

We came home from a short trip and noticed that the paint on the hood of our car had peeled off in a few spots. Some spots larger than others. The grey primer is showing now and we have a white car.why is paint peeling off of an 09 hyundai? should not be happening!!!

Takata recall.accident happened on a highway going 60 miles an hour.a deer came out of the ditch, missed the deer.my daughter swerved into the ditch and launched over a gravel road and did a nose dive into a bean field.crashing the front end of the car.the car is totaled.

Paint started to flak off on front of roof top, and front of hood at 39,000 miles. Took it to dealer who indicated the warranty was only good thru 36,000 miles on paint, and i would have to pay for it. Paint should not flak off and is defective with such low mileage.

The hood paint started to discolor and appear splotchy. Since the paint warranty was only good to 36,000 miles, i figured i would bite the bullet and get it painted at my cost. Before i got that done the damage has now appeared on the left front fender (beyond the hood) at 62,000 miles. This is just a lousy factory paint job and i don't know if it's worth getting the whole car repainted.

2009 hyundai sonata sounds like it needs new shocks/struts right off the lot car has less than 300 miles on it went to dealer the service tech said many had complained about the same thing but no fix he told me to complain to hyundaicalled and they said sorry that's the way they are that its operating as designedthis will be my last hyundai.

Bad pull to the left replce front strut, spring noises while driveing, tires feathering,no stability while driving, any kind of bumps you are all over the road, shimmy in steering wheel, with two passengers in the back seat the car lifts up in front and stability while driving is even worse.this has been occuring since it was new, easy to loose control of vehicle, replaced rf strut, balanced tires ,numerous times on the alignment rack, dealership acknowledges all tires feathering but say they cant fix it

I had taken the vehicle for alignment. They said bolts related to rear tie rods were rusted and they could not do it. I took it to another mechanic for inspection and possible repair. He said the same. In addition he also said that the struts are leaking. I looked into the history of my vehicle, as i bought it used 2 years ago. I found that the vehicle had been recalled in 2013 for suspension related issues. And some 239000 vehicles were affected. I believe its the same issue which has resurfaced again. The vehicle is perfectly fine otherwise. By the way i have a salvage title of the vehicle on my name if that is important information.

Strut noise sounds like wore out on new 2009 hyundai sonata gls. Fear they may brake and cause me to have a wreck. Loud noise over bumps under car.

Vehicle sways out of control when you hit a bump or make a turn. Took it to the hyundai dealership to find the problem.they did an inspection and drove it and said that nothing was wrong.i asked them to drive it again with me in it and thenthey inspected it again and said that he rear sub frame is rusted out.the car has no outward signs of rust, but apparently the subframes on hyundais are known for this.

Complained about suspension to dealer on my 2009 (11500 miles) when purchased (11/01/2010) they said it was ok. Brought the car to another dealer with complaint on suspension and road noise from bumps in road. The test drive revealed a link on the sway bar was replaced. No improvement in noise from bumps. They said this is normal. Still not happy with either of the dealer tests and repairs.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph over a road bump, the contact heard a vibration from the front end of the vehicle. 2009 hyundai sonata sounds like it needs new shocks/struts right off the car lot noticed as soon as we drove it home from signing the papers - less than 20 miles on it tech said many had complained about the same thing but no fix he told me to complain to hyundai called and they said sorry that's the way they are that its operating as designed - just received recall notice for my 2002 sonata - suspension is faulty must be replaced safety hazard -wish i had known before i bought the 2009. Regret purchase.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 30 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 41,900.

My steering and brakes suddenly locked up. I had my kids in the car and lucky that it happened right by my house. No traffic. Even the suspension was affected.i immediately got kids out of the car and contacted my insurance to tow the car.

I bought a new 2009 hyundai sonata limited- i took it the hyundai service in yonkers ny to test drive my new car . It seemed to me the car had bad front shocks absorbers. After being driven by one of their service men he agreed that something was very wrong. I was told to bring back the car when the new shocks arrive. The manager and his service men were very courteous to me and handled the situation very professionally. Until the time the new shocks arrive i will not use the car, because i consider it a danger on the road. I'm hoping that will be the answer to the problem.

Loud noise over bumps. Sounds like something is loose.

Rear control arm components are faulty and require $2k in replacing entire control arm component. Hyundai states it is not covered under #113 due to currently not being registered in a "salt state" however recall is exact issue as current issue with my car. Problem was recently identified after multiple trips to the shop to determine issue with the car. Car has issue with control, braking and shaking while in transit as well as a burning smell from the rear end.

Passenger rear upper shock tower was filled with(very rusty) water from hole in a the wheel well.

Hyundai sonata 2009 limited front loud thud noise when going over small bumps and when turning right. The thud noise is only from the passenger side front strut. There is a big difference when you hit a bump on the drivers side and the passenger side. Isa pretty obvious noise. Dealer replaced right strut and insulator and the noise continues. Dealer say they cannot just change out parts unless they find a problem. Car acts like the front suspension is coming apart when turning to the right and going over small bumps. Problems is a safety issue because something seems to be falling apart on the front end when turning and while going over small bumps.

2009 hyundai sonata and oem hankook tires - optimo h426one of the oem hankook tires has a buldge on the side wall.have reached out to the vehicle manufacturer hyundai, oem tire manufacturer hankook and its authorized representative sears to get it addressed as part of the oem warranty, but unfortunately have been denied.the tread on the tire (per sears technicians is less than 2/32) even though the car is 3 years old with only 24500 miles despite the mileage warranty on the hankook website to be listed as 60000 miles on these brand of tires.not sure if any other consumers have faced similar issues around buldging of side walls, wear and tear of tread, etc for similar hankook tires.

Tires are cupping terribly.i have replaced so many tires due to this issues.had alignment done and problem still exist.

While driving (the car was in motion) the driver side sun visor has a propensity to drop, blocking the vision from the driver. The sun visor now does not stay in an up-right position.this is a very dangerous safety issue, as the sun visor blocks your vision.

Driving on the interstate, 'esc off' light came on; at the same time, the cruise control quit working and i noticed that the brake lights all quit working at the same time.

While driving my car i attempted to shift to third gear and discovered i had no clutch pedal. This problem continued for the next half hour till i arrived at my destination, where i parked it. A few hours later i started to go home and the clutch worked fine. Indicating that the problem is not in the clutch. I believe the hydraulic master cylinder loses pressure somehow causing the problem

I bought my car on july 18th 2016. That is the only time i have had a passing inspection sticker. The check engine light came on shortly after i drove off the lot. Over the past two years i have tried to get it fixed. The code is a p0442 code. I have brought it to 4 mechanics and they can not find the issue. We have changed the gas cap twice, done purge valves, and hoses. We also did 7 smoke tests and still can not find the issue. I still owe 7,000 on the vehicle and have been paying it but it's not drivable due to the rejection for the inspection. I know of 2 hyundai sonatas with the same problem. One being a 2006 and the other also a 2009. I keep looking to see if there is a recall but haven't found anything. I don't have any other options as far as what to do. Please help me if you can it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

While pumping gas it appears to be full(when it is not even 3/4 full tank) gass spills or spurts out on floor and my feet. Very strong smell of fuel in cabin when proceed to driv and clears out after maybe 5-10 miles

The button to open the gas cap does not work.

None of my lights on my dash has changed. Areas affected: service brakes, hydraulics, and exterior lighting, failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to engaged the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. As mentioned in the recall from 4/1/13. 2nd recall for suspension: control arm separation may suddenly changed the rear wheel alignment affecting the handling of the car increasing the risk of a crash. Another main common issue is the rusted out subframe, lower control arms, cam bolts, bushings, control arm, subframe, and sway bar. This is causing me to drive unstable and hold the steering wheel forcefully in order to remain straight.

Noticed on passenger side dashboard near the airbag that there was a long crack from windshield down entire front of dash area.several weeks later noticed another crack just on the opposite of the dashboard in same area where airbag would be located on passenger side of vehicle.took vehicle to hyundai dealer to survey issue and inquire about safety issue.i advised them that i have a custom made sunshade which is used on vehicle daily for sun protection on the dashboard as well as entire vehicle.

Severely cracked dashboard

I have a 2009 hyundai sonata.it has about 140,000 miles on it and is admittedly well outside of any warranty, however, i believe this case requires an exception.about a year ago, the paint started chipping off my car.not little scratches but fairly large spots.i contacted hyundai who said it was outside the warranty, and i let it go. Last saturday, during a hard rain, the paint literally fell off my car.my husband drove to columbus that day, and when he arrived, the paint had vanished from the entire roof.patches came off of the hood as well.and the trunk is beginning to peel.i am told this is a delamination issue related tometal paint preparation.while i realize that the car is outside the warranty, i stand by my statement that no matter how many miles a car has on it, the paint should not come off in the rain!hyundai refuses to even refer the case to a supervisor.normal wear and tear happens, and i accept that.but this is clearly a factory defect, and i think hyundai should be responsible for fixing it.since hyundai is totally unresponsive, i am seeking others to with this problem for a more formal approach to have this resolved.

My driver side sun visor flops down.it looks good, is not torn or appear abused, but it keeps flopping down when i drive and the angle blocks my view.i do not know why it happened, i simply tried to push it into the position that suits me best and some plastic fell from the end piece where it attaches to the frame.i was parked at the time, preparing to drive.

The ignition locked, the key was unable to turn over. Thankfully, i was parked in a business establishments parking lot.

When driving my car will jerk like it is shifting rough. At first i thought it was the brakes grabbing but when i googled it i read that it could be ecm and tcm software problem. It jerks sometimes so badly that it feels like i have bumped into something. Called dealer but was told there is no recall for this problem. Was also informed that it is probably an update needed to the ecm and tcm software and it could cost $200. If that is the case it should be something that hyundai covers.

When car is placed in drive the gear shift display will show random gears. It will cycle through all the gears until you select to use the manual shift (+/-) to ensure that you are in the proper gear. This has been an issue on others car in the sonata line up just not this year. This problem needs to be addressed and corrected. I am taking my vehicle to the car dealer today to get this problem fixed.

Please, i went to one of the vision hyundai outlets to rectify some recalls on my hyundai 2009 sonate. I was also informed by the mechanic that my subframe has holes and added that it calls for concern as a safety issue. Please, i do not have the $800 he said it would cost. I see that someother persons had complained in the past and made a clear strong standing to hyundai consumer affairs that it is a safety issue and had their vehicles repaired at no cost to the owners. Bearing in mind that a subframe on a car should not be rusting out, i need your input to have this issued resolved.

Transmission issue: experiencing a harsh down shift when braking. This recall is already know for the 2011 model in which hyundai says it is a timing issue with the transmission and they have to reset it.

I have had 2 instances of sudden acceleration. 1st incident i was backing out of my garage and the car shot backward narrowly missing my house. 2nd incident about a month later i was pulling into a parking spot when the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The car shot forward & i had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting a fence. Both incidents the vehicle was going less than 5 mph. I have also noticed the vehicle jerking occasionally in traffic when you ease up on the gas pedal.

Driver side sun visor would not stay up, causing it drop in front of eyes. Moved to side, then forcibly removed it when i reached my destination. Appears to be same problem related to models from previous years, but 2009 not included in recall.

I was driving on the highway and the sun visor that was up broke and swung down almost hitting me in the face.it no longer will stay up as it's intended and swings down blocking my view of the road when driving.it's a hazard and issue that i believe many others have as well.

2009 huyndai sonata starter installed in june 2017 by dealer after diagnosing a defective starter was the reason for a strange sound when starting the car.in december 2017, the same dealer states that the ignition switch is sending a signal at the wrong time and as a result, the same sound occurs. Dealer claims that the same sound is not a result of the starter, but the ignition switch.

My dashboard on passenger side of car started cracking last year. It is over the airbag so i now try not to put anyone in that seat or sit there myself.it started out as 1 crack and everyday there is more.

Engine oil leaks since 2 years ago

All car systems flashed and car went completely dead. Nothing worked. First time it happened mechanic said alternator and battery had to be changed. A year and a half later exact same thing happened and again new mechanic says the alternator needs to be changed. Big safety isuue as car died in the middle of highway with cars going all around me trying to avoid me. This is second time the alternator has to be replaced with only 2000 miles on the car after the alternator was replaced the first time.

Sunroof shattered while driving on the freeway. Nothing hit the car and i did not cross under an over-path. There was no warning, no sounds of wind or air entering the sunroof. Chunks of glass few off the car and could have damaged other vehicle or could have caused a wreck. It rained overnight after this incident and my cloth seats were soaked. I was finally able to get the sunroof repaired a few days later.

Dashboard is cracking and has been for a year and a half.my boyfriend's friend has the same car, same year and his is worse than mine.my concern is this is where airbag is located.

My dash is cracking in two different places and 1 is close to the air bag and it concerns me if i get in car accident that my air bags deploy and afraid the whole dash will come off and it does not seem safe to me

I have noticed my paint on my hyundai sonata for 2009 has been chipping away and flaking off when ever it rains and this should not be doing this and it's a newer car and i also notice i'm not the only person going through this . This car gonna look ugly when all the paint that's chipping off and flaking offwhen nothing been hitting the car to cause the paint to flake off and it's a newer model . Something should be done about it and it should not be doing this at all. I don't understand why it's doing this i only had the car for a year now this is not right. Also my button for the gas door quit working on the second day i got it and i also notice other people has the same problem and i also know i have another problem that also been addressed too my door unlocks when i put my car in park and it shouldn't unlock cause i'll be sitting there and someone can just open the door if i was being hijacked and it shouldn't be doing that either and unlocking when u put the car in park this needs fixed for safety reasons too

Transmission shift down

Sun visor fell down while i was driving the car.

I have been having trouble with the car starting intermittently over the last 6 months. The lights on the dashboard comes up but the car will not turn over.previously ihad to get a new starter on 10/29/2015 with 40524 miles on the car at this time; the 2009 sonata was then about 6 years old; i paid $100 as it was just slightly over 5 year and the dealership said they would prorate it.i have been having similar problem with the vehicle again since january 2018 with the car starting/turning over intermittently; lights on dashboard comes up but car does not turn over.i took to dealer today and the car had 60925 miles on it,the dealership person stated they were 90-95% sure it was the starter but not 100% and estimated the cost for the new starter to be over $500.the dealership person said that the warranty on the starter put in on 10/29/2015 was 12 months/12000, and therefore no cost adjustment.

I started my car and as i started to turn the steering wheel so i could pull out of the parking space smoke spewed from my dashboard. I looked up under the dash and noticed the wiring harness in flames. I extinguished the fire. I then had the car towed to a hyundai dealer. They examined the damage and said tat it would cost me $4000 to repair it as i needed a new wiring harness. Hyundai claims it wasn't a manufacturers defect, even though the car was purchased brand new and therehas been no alterations or modifications, the same wiring harness is used in kia which has a recall on a wiring harness. I am in possession of the burnt harness and it clearly has kia written on it

We bought a used 2009 hyundai sonata and after 9 months the navigatio system went blank.very disappointed.it flashes th 33rd hyundai logo followed by a blank white screen.tryed rebooting.$100 just to find out what's wrong.now we find out there were problems from the get go with tho s system.very distracting and safety issue at night.we bought an extended plan which does not seem to cover navigation.

I was at the gas pump trying to ease up to get closer so the nozzle could reach my tank. In the process of easing up the car took off forward, causing the door to close my leg in the door almost causing me to loose my leg. The accelerator got stuck.

The failure mileage was 33,000 and the current mileage was 33,200.

June 3, 2009 car accelerated on its own up to approx 65 mph when driver was pressing accelerator at 30 mph, and the car would not stop - driver stood on brakes, shifted to neutral, pulled up parking brake, got off road and turned off engine.dealer made no repair-said their computer showed nothing wrong.august 12, 2009 car lost all power and engine lights came on - steered car off road. No repair made - dealer tightened gas cap- said computer showed nothing else wrong. August 17, 2009 car lost power again - steered off road. Dealer replaced the throttle assembly. June 24, 2010 car accelerated on its own up to 65 mph when driver pressed accelerator while going 40 mph, and the car would not stop - driver stood on brakes, shifted to neutral, pulled up parking brake, got off road and turned off engine. Driver called 911 and spoke to state highway patrol.car was towed to dealer - no repair made, their computer showed nothing wrong. Dealer delivered car to my house, i have kept it off the road. Can't drive it, trade it, or sell it because it is dangerous.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving 25 mph,he slowed the vehicle down and began approaching a curb when the vehicle accelerated on it's own. The driver took his foot off of the brakes then he engaged the brakes again in order to drive onto the emergency lane. The contact experienced extreme difficulty while turning the steering wheel and attempted to stop the vehicle. The dealer stated that they were unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The contact does not feel safe driving the vehicle. The failure mileage was 400. The current mileage was 765 miles.

My 2009 hyundai sonata will speed up when i remove my foot off the gas pedal. It will increase the rpm's by 1000 which increases the speed of the car. This has happened many times now to the point of returning my car to the dealer for repair while under warranty. But, with 52,000 miles this should not be happening at all.

1. Driving from harrisburg to pottstown pa2. Non-responding throttle at 60 mph. Pulled over to the shoulder, shut off and restarted the engine. The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the shifter became stuck in park. The contact was able to shift into drive however, the vehicle then abnormally accelerated and caused the contact to crash into a wall. The contact did not sustain any injuries.the contact took the vehicle to a dealer to have repairs under nhtsa campaign i.d. 13v113000 (exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic) however, the dealer stated that the recall defect could have caused the vehicle to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were unknown.

Drivers side visor does not stay up in any position.

Lowering the driver side sun visor made a crackling noise then the visor would not stay in a fixed position up or down.currently, i taped it up to old it out of my field of vision for driving until i can get it to the dealer.i certainly hope this is covered under the 5 yr bumper to bumper warranty.

Rear window shattered while commuting into work this morning on interstate i-95.the glass repair man stated new cars sometimes have a faulty wire that causes these windows to shatter.i was using the heater & had the defrost activatedoutside temperature:27 degrees c.2009 hyundai sonata gls. West palm beach, fl.

I purchased a 2009 sonata for my wife's safety, driving the roads of texas to and from work.i notified hyundai about a serious and dangerous instrument panel control design flaw.. The sonata manual is self-explanatory starting at page 1-101 - addressing known and frequent fogging all windows issues. Briefly, it is unconscionable to ask the driver, while driving, take one hand off the wheel, look down, find, read and manually reset multiple exact positions intemperature, a/c and fan speeds to defog all windows. At 70 miles, or any mph--this is a disaster waiting to happen. Sonata hyundai windows fog quickly, completely and frequently blinding the driver necessitating distracting changes to be made to balance multiple changes in outside to inside temps along roads. Defogging is achieved--only-- with outside air intake vents open. Life threatening maneuvers to drive safely are distractions designed into the hyundai instrument control system. In all my years i have not found such an incompetent, unsafe, unreasonable and life threatening design in any automobile, or over the road rig i owned. If hyunda's answer is they cannot fix or reprogram the system, i am selling the car as quickly as they say no. This design is a death trap, unsafe to drive, and a threat to others on the road as well.

Drivers sun visor hangs down, will not stay up.

The driver side visor made a strange sound as i pulled it down in a normal fashion.when i tried to return it to the normal position, it just flopped back down.it will not stay in place.i have tried velcro strips and tape to hold it in position and nothing works.the visor is obstructing my view and it will swing around when i make turns, which results in the visor hitting me in the head while i'm attempting to drive with an already obstructed view. To make matters worse, tonight i was driving and the light that normally comes on when you open the mirror, came on unexpectedly and would not turn off.i had to drive for 25 minutes with my passenger holding their hand over the light so that i could drive home.this probably wound not have been such a problem in the daylight, however, this was at night.i have contacted hyundai about this problem and they told me that it would cost over $70 just for the visor and even more to have it installed. They also told me that there was a recall on the 2006 sonata but that doesn't help me.

Sun visor will not stay up it keeps falling down obstructing my vision while driving.

I pulled down the drivers side visor in a normal fashion and it made a strange noise then it would not work properly. It hangs down and will not go back in the normal position. Now it just hangs blocking the drivers vision.

Sun visor on driver side is broken (won't stay up) and the sun visor drops down vertically blocking the driver's field of view.this problem was part of a recall in the two prior year models (2007 and 2008), but hyundai refuses to acknowledge the problem persists in the 2009 year model

Lowering the driver side sun visor made a crackling noise then the visor would not stay in a fixed position up or down. Currently, i taped it up to old it out of my field of vision for driving until i can get it to the dealer.

Driving along and driver side sun visor fell to down position.it will not stay up.

As seems to be the case with hyundai's, the driver side sun visor would no longer have the tension to stay up. It would continually fall down and not stay in up position.it would also not stay in the position against the window to block the sun.this has been a problem with hyundai's for a long time and in my opinion it is a safety issue.i did a search of the internet and it is a recurring problem for many years.apparently hyundai is unable or unwilling to get to the problem and fix the sun visor issue.this issue causes a visibilityproblem as the visor keeps dropping into the driver's field of vision!

2009 hyundai sonata limited drivers side sun visor will not stay in the up position, had the visor down to block sun and when i went to put it up it will not stay in that position, make it hard to drive with it in the down position, blocks view of the road.

Driver's side sun visor suddenly made a "crack" noise during normal operation and now the visor does not stay in place. I am not unable to use during bright sunny days because it greatly reduces my visibility by not staying in position. Instead i have to fight the sun which is dangerous too.

Driver side sun visor fails to stay in home position.falls down in front of drivers vision.

My visoron the driver side will not stay up.it seems to be loosing and it will not stay forward either.when i am driving it is all in the way.it hits me in the head.i do feel like this is a recall issue because this have been a problem with 2007- other year models.i just really need the problem fix before it cause a problem and i do have kids that i transport in this car.this is my only means of transportation so i am in need of this to be fix before it causes a huge problem.i love my car...huge fan of the sonata but this is really making me not want to buy another or even to refer any one to buy one for themselves.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving 56 mph, there was an extremely loud noise coming from the roof of the vehicle. The contact noticed that the sun roof shattered. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,351.

On april 13th, the weather was warm in the middle of the afternoon.i opened up my sunroof with intent to open it only partially. I have tried unsuccessfully to close my sunroof now.the mechanism that slides shut, does not work properly anymore.when the roof gets to the point of closing, it automatically goes back.i had to inch the sunroof closed as far as possible.i had to place plastic in the connection area to keep as much rain and wind out.

The contact rented a 2009 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the front windshield tint blocked 15% of theupper half of the window. While driving at night, the tint would obstruct 50% of the contacts view of the road. His view was extremely opaque due to the headlights on passing vehicles. The contact had to drive with his face extremely close to the windshield in order to see. Neither the manufacturer or dealer had been contacted regarding the failure. The failure and current mileages were unknown.

Tires are cupping terribly.i have replaced so many tires due to this issues.had alignment done and problem still exist.

Installed four (4) brand new general altimax rt43 tires. New tires had 3877 miles on them when the driver's side rear tire suffered a sudden, rapid loss of air traveling on a maintained county highway at 55 to 60 miles per hour. The tire was examined at the dealership and determined to have a slice or cut in the sidewall resulting in extreme, rapid tire failure. There was neither no pothole or foreign object traversed prior to the extreme, sudden tire failure. Having been a certified emergency vehicle operations instructor, and having served as a committee member for the state of wisconsin, department of justice as an advisor foremergency vehicle operations, i am most confident in my observation and assessment. The tire simply failed for no identifiable, rational reason.

.on jan 24, 2009, i purchased a 2009 hyundai sonata limited from the fairfax hyundai dealership' located in fairfax, virginia. On mar 27, 2010, i took my vehicle to the dealership for my 15, 000 mile service. I informed the dealer that i did not like the way in which my left front tire was wearing, and requested that they look at the wheel and advise me accordingly. The dealer later advised me that i needed a front end alignment, and further advised me to have the alignment done on that visit. Subsequently, the service manager advised me that his technician wad encountered a problems performing the alignment because the left front camber and tow were off. Consequently, he advised me that the technician would have to remove the original left upper ball joint and replace it with a new one. Between 2010 & 2014, the negative wearing of my left front tire continued. This required me to rotate my left front tire constantly, and to change my tires frequently. On mar 10, 2015, my left front upper ball joint collapsed, and the left front wheel fell off the vehicle.i was later advised by my mechanic thatfairfax hyundai' installed an off- the- market- upper leftball joint when they performed the alignment and upper ball joint replacement, the mechanic further advised me that it appears that there was amanufacture defect on the vehicle and that the dealer installed an off- the- market- upper left ball joint to correct the manufacture defect. 'fairfax hyundai never informed me that they were installing an off-the-market part to my vehicle. I learned this fact from my mechanic for the first time that an off- the- market- upper left ball joint was installed on my vehicle., and that there may have been a manufacture defect on my vehicle.
