My car was recalled for a faulty ocs system. This sensor is supposed to disable the passenger airbag when it detects a child, but a recall was issued because the sensor disables the airbag even for some adults. I have this problem too. I often notice that the "passenger airbag off" light illuminates when certain adult passengers over 120 pounds sit in the passenger seat.. So i brought my car to the pacifico hyundai dealership in philadelphia, after examining my vehicle, the dealership representative told me, in no uncertain terms, that the mechanic verified that the system operated correctly, despite my insistence that the airbag was turned off for some adult passengers. As the purpose of the recall was to fix the sensor for exactly the problem my car was exhibiting, i was worried that the dealership did not conduct the proper tests. The fact of the matter is that the airbag on my car is disabled for some adult passengers. After hours of calling the hyundai hotline and speaking with customer representatives, i was eventually told by a case manager that the dealership did not perform the necessary diagnostic test, and i should bring in my vehicle again. This is quite disturbing--if the dealership lied to me about conducting the safety tests, they very well could have lied to other customers as well. How many other hyundaicar owners are driving around with a faulty airbag because the dealership lied about conducting this safety test? how many other safety recalls did they violate? the dealership exhibited willful neglect in complying with this safety recall, and this needs to be addressed so they do not continue to do so.

We began questioning hyundai (tameron hyundai in birmingham alabama) when we noticed that this light stayed on. I also read in a haynes manual that there was a recall for this problem and i mentioned it to the dealership.the service dept. Informed us that there was no recall for that problem and that it was due to the passenger not sitting properly in the seat.we recently received a recall notice for this problem from hyundai.i contacted the dealership and was informed that hyundai had suspended this recall due to an overload of vehicles in the process of being fixed.they further informed me that i would need to bring the vehicle in for them to look at in order to be placed on a waiting list and then a second recall notice would be sent when the recall work suspension was lifted.i informed them that i would like to be put on the recall list without taking the vehicle in "to have it looked at" to save me 2.5 hours of driving time and a secondary wait time at the dealership.they told me they could not do that. Finally they told me that the repair would require them to remove the seat bottom and send it to california for the repair, but they would return the vehicle to me to use in the meantime.they could not give an estimate of the time the vehicle would be without the seat.this is my only car and i frequently need to use it to transport 2 adults and 2 children.this would be impossible to do without a seat, especially if the amount of time would be for longer than 1 week.your assistance is requested in this matter.

The dealer stated that the remedy part was on hold and they would be unable to servicethe vehicle.the manufacturer was not contacted. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The airbag light is on and the passenger seat belt sign is off. The vehicle was in motion.

The airbag indicator light remains illuminated at all times.the problem resolved briefly after the passenger side airbag seat sensor was replaced under warranty but after a few weeks the problem returned.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.while driving approximately 20 mph on normal road conditions, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel intermittently.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the frontal passenger air bag sensor.through research, the technician discovered nhtsa campaign id number 08v161000 (air bags).the vehicle was repaired for the recall defect; however, the remedy did not properly correct the safety defect.the contact was concerned of the safety risk involved.the current mileage was 7,655. Updated 11/28/08the consumer stated when he wife sat in the passenger seat the air bag light stayed on. Updated 12/02/08.

Esc off light comes on randomly along with airbag warning.

Air bag warning light came on when driving andpassanger seat belt light flashes when a passanger is present, even when the passanger seat belt is buckled.the dealer said it was due to a faulty sensor in the passager seat buckle and was not covered.i still have not fixed, but i must before next state inspection.i am reporting because i saw recent report of investigation into this matter.

The airbag warning light came on and has stayed on.

The airbag light is on and when ran on diagnostic machine it is the ocs mat fault.it has been reported an acknowledged issue on the 2008 hyundai but when i informed the dealership they said my body type vehicle is not covered? why would this be?

B1448 issue showing ocs mat defect. Red dash light saying "air bag" came on @104000 miles and remains on.light came on while driving with no occupant in passenger seat. No accidents or airbag deployments. Dealer indicates no active recall however nhtsa shows "hyundai recall no. 083. System which features an occupant classification system (ocs) in the right front seat. The purpose of the ocs is to disable the right passenger seat front air bag when it detects the presence of a child restraint system or small child in the right front seat. The right front air bag is disabled to prevent injuries to a child that may result from a right front air bag inflation during a crash. I have an appointment today but since dealer will check vin for active recalls, expect them to deny recall service and try to make me pay for repair. Had a notice back in 2019 saying to take vehicle to dealer to check which i did and without the benefit of a scan, they had someone sit in the seat to verify light extinguished but did no repair. My 13 year old daughter (weighing 85 pounds)would sit in seat and "airbag off light" would remain on when it should have extinguished and provided air bag protection. They told me the threshold was above my daughter's weight but would not tell me what the weight is supposed to be. I disagreed with their assessment and let them know. However, the dash airbag light moi was not lighting at that time but now is on. I believe the sensor is defective and computer is trying to determine whether anyone is in the seat or not.

My airbag light is stuck on at all times. I have not been in any accidents no body work has been done to the car. The light doesnt flash off and on, it stays on all the time. Several mechanics cannot clear the code or figure out why. Ive been sent to certified hyundai dealerships and they can't figure it out. I ve read all over the internet of people pumping thousands of dollars into fixing it, only to have the light come back on. Im not putting money into a black hole for the problem to never have a permanent solution. I feel unsafe not knowing the real issue. Its not the airbag fuse or wiring as that has been insepected and tested. I have one dealership who won't even look at my car because i think they don't know what to do with it. I have no documents to attach because technically nothing happened to my car to trigger this light. It just came on one day. It doesnt matter if the car is parked or in driving mode or anything. Its always on. I can't pass any state inspections.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, the passenger side air bag indicator illuminated and remained lit. In addition, the low beam headlights became misaligned to the left and failed to illuminate the full view of the road ahead. Downey hyundai (7550 firestone blvd, downey, california 90241, (562) 314-4331) was made aware of the air bag indicator failure and disconnected the passenger side air bag. The dealer stated that the passenger side air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Keyes mission hills hyundai (10240 sepulveda blvd, mission hills, california 91345) was made aware of the headlamp lighting failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that parts and labor would not be covered per nhtsa campaign number: 08e021000 (exterior lighting) in regards to the headlights. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign numbers: 08v161000 (air bags) and 08e021000 (exterior lighting) as potential causes of the failures. The failure mileage was 121,605.

Front passenger warning light:"passenger air bag off" remains lit even when occupied.hazard:do not know if air bag is activated or not.bad ocs module?want recall honored 08v161000.front visor remains straight down position blocking visibility. When moved to the right blocks entry/exit from vehicle by hitting people in the head.hazard!what do i do if mfg. Refuses to fix these items--my recourse??

When my daughter buckled the right front passenger seatbelt she stated it felt funny.during that exact time the seatbelt light began flashing and the airbag light came on.

Driver side visor impairs visibility significantly. The visor hangs down in drivers view and stays there. We have hit our head on the visor many times, which hurts and causes more distraction from driving. We have not had luck in fixing it and do not have money to replace it due to job loss and high monthly payments. When i sit in the front passenger side, i get the "passenger airbag off" light which comes on randomly and i am way over the limit in weight for it to happen. I have sat correctly and still do as told by my dealer. (which was told to me was the cause of the light on/off randomly). The esc light comes on right after starting to drive ex. Letting off emergency brake, and placing in 1st gear. This continues for several weeks maybe a month or more, then will randomly go away.this is a danger as we rely on our careful driving and the esc which has saved us many times in our other vehicle. The paint started wearing a month after we bought the car (which we bought off the showroom floor and it only had 32 miles on it) and "warranty" does not cover it. We now have a polka-dotted car. It continues to rust and peel and makes us extremely dissatisfied with our cars looks as we were so proud to have bought our 1st brand new car. The payments are painstaking but we said, "it has such great reviews and it is a safe car for us and our son, so it's worth it"but you can not put a price on safety and there are several things that are impairing a safe drive especially when my husband has to drive 45 minutes to work everyday-yes, one way.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that shortly after starting, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a parked vehicle. A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was declared destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 75,000.

My car only has 82,000 miles on it and i am the second owner. For some reason the airbag light came on.i received an extended warranty notification earlier this year in regards to seat buckle assemblies on 2006-2008 sonatas, which applied to my car.at that time however, i had no issues with the airbag light but now the light has come on. I went to the dealer and they stated that my issue has nothing to do with the seat belt buckle however it has to do with a b1448 080 (occupant classification system) (mat defect) i have spent some time doing research and it appears that a number of people have been experiencing this issue. I am not sure whats going on here but i thinkwe need to look into the air bag issue.i have been quoted a cost of$1,300 to fix this problem and i do not feel that this is acceptable and that the cost should not be pushed on to the consumer, given that it appears to be mat defect which probably stems from the manufacturer. I have also taken this car to the same dealer for service and all the records of service are available.i am just concerned that this air bag issue may be very serious.

Red airbag warning light is on.passenger air bag light always off, even if seat is empty.red passenger seatbelt light always flashing until seat belt is latched, even if there is no one sitting in seat.this is while vehicle is in motion.received b1448 error code.dealer says vin isn't in the recall. I have called 2 local hyundai dealers and hyundai corporate. Same answer.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag indicator failed to illuminate when the seat was occupied. The contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v161000 (air bag). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Hit several rural mail boxes and came to a halt against two small trees. Air bags did not deploy even though there was over $7000.00 of damage to the car.

The front driver side door handle has came off and so has the passenger side. The inside door handle on the driver side has came off and the driver side door is totally inoperable. This s a total safety hazard in the event of an emergency, a car crash god forbid or even the car catching fire. Getting to safety would be very difficult. I cant afford to continuing fixing an issue that is defected to begin with. The brake lights doesn't illuminate all time when engaged and my air bag lights are on and my car sways in the back due to the control arm being rusted

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle slid on ice and crashed into a snow bank without warning. The air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained injuries that required medical attention. A police report was not filed. A tow truck was called to pull the vehicle out of the snow bank and the vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and repaired; however, one day later, the passenger and driver side air bag warning lights were consistently illuminated. The failure recurred each time the vehicle was started. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the air bag sensors in both seats needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.updated 8/19/15 updated 10/17/2017

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.in november of 2008, the vehicle was repaired according to nhtsa campaign id number 08v161000 (air bags).after a couple of days, the sensor was turning the air bag off whenever an occupant would sit in the passenger seat.the manufacturer could not locate the failure or provide assistance.the contact feels that this is a major safety issue because when his children are seated in the vehicle, the sensor shuts off the air bag.this could be fatal in the event of a crash.the current mileage was 24,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.

The other day, i found the srs airbag warning light keeps on on the instrument cluster and then i found that the seat belt warning light in the front passenger's side is also on and the "passenger air bag off" indicator is turned off when there is no passenger or luggage on the seat. I went to the local dealer and it turned out to be that vehicle has no communication from occupant classification system (ocs) module under the front passenger's seat.

Air bag light is turn on and never get turn off from last two month , i need to fix so please make a recall for air bag.

The airbag light comes on and off from time to time. I notice that there was a recall for this issues on 2008 model. However by my vin number it won't show that needs an attention on it. Please let me know what to do. Also, there is moose on the front side , passenger side. On the back the car wiggles over 60mph or if i have 3 people on the back.thanks

Airbag lights on at all times

I started up the car and no one was in the passenger seat.the air bag light comes up on the dash disappears and reappears and stays on.after visiting mechanic the error code b1448 appears.i'm afraid that the air bags won't deploy if i'm in an accident.i'm also thinking whether this is associated to the larger oc sensor failed recall.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.intermittently, when the contact's 106 pound wife is seated in the front passenger seat, the air bag light dims and then illuminates again, as if no one is in the seat.this incident has occurred three separate times.the vehicle has been taken to the dealer twice, but with no resolution.the vehicle was repaired according to nhtsa campaign id number 08v161000 (air bags); however, the failure persists.the current mileage was 7,400 and failure mileage was 100. Updated 09/13/08.*ljthe dealer replaced the air bag module.

My driver's side airbag light has been on for quite some time, and my passenger side airbag light is not detecting anyone sitting in the passenger seat.i took my car to a mechanic and was told it's an electrical issue with my airbags and may be due to a faulty wiring issue under the front passenger seat.additionally, the low beam on my driver side lighting fixture is not working, although i've had the bulb replaced multiple times.further, the headlights, although also replaced, don't work at all.

The morning of the flash freeze on february 21, 2014, my daughter was turning left at an intersection when she lost control of the car due to slick roads. When she stepped on the brake, it slid and crashed head onto a traffic light pole. Part of the traffic light broke off as a result of the impact. Her airbag did not deploy. Her chest and mouth hit the steering wheel. She was in a lot of pain and it hurt her to breathe so was sent for x-rays. She didn't have any broken ribs but may have had internal bruising because she needed physical therapy for several weeks and a chipped tooth. When i called hyundai and told her what happened, the representative said the airbag should have deployed. I was mailed out paperwork to fill out. I completed all the requested information. They then inspected the car. After a few weeks, i received a letter stating the accident did not merit the airbag deployment. They closed my case without any further conversation. I called after i received the letter and the representative said this was hyundai's final decision and there was nothing more they can do for me. ...updated 12/09/15

Front passenger seat airbagoccupant sensor mat is defective the airbag warning light is on continuously. The front passenger seat belt warning l;ight flashes when there is on occupant unless it buckled.

So what im woundering is what do i have to do to make sure my car is not being effective by theses recalls. Thank you and have a nice day.

My hyundai sonata 2008 gls has airbag sign on and would not go off. The passenger seat belt sign is flashing without anybody seating on the passenger side. The dealer said my car is not being recalled they said i have to get it fixed. Even though many other owners that i checked online had same issues and their cars got fixed by the dealers at no cost because they were recalled. Plz recall my car.

2008 hyundai sonata : received recall for passenger air bag light several months ago, taken to dealership and told car was not part of recall even though passenger air bag light which shows that air bag system is deactivated came on when passenger was in front seat intermittently.now driver side air bag light on steady, mechanic states sensor issue and air bag willnot deploy in crash, called hyundai and informed 'after some digging' my car may be covered under ocs recall??? hyundai call center assisted me in getting appointment with dealership in a few days, unsure what repairs will be done. Also both visors are broken, will not stay up, issue with visibility,.

The airbag light previously would go on and off at times. But now it stays on permanently and the passenger seat belt light blinks on and off.

My car's air bag light is on. Maybe something problem for air bag function. Air bag will be not working. I think the air bag is very important function regarding safety. How can i do ?

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The vehicle was included in the recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 08v161000 (air bags) and was repaired. The technician performed the recall repair a second time but the failure continued after the second recall repair. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer a third time but the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.

Airbag and front passenger light came and stayed on.on march 20, 2012 dealer stated recall took my car for a week then returned no lights.the problem came back again on august 14, 2012 and they refuse to do any further work because my 2nd owner warranty expired in april of 2012, the dealership won't even honor the parts/labor warranting their work for 1 year i was told they were supposed to do.this is bad for me because i chronically ill.i brought a extended warranty from them and after being told my all involved it would cover future airbag/seat problems they said we can't find it in the contract and are giving me the run around. I really to ill to deal with this.what can i do?who regulates dealerships when they are behaving badly.

Airbag indicator warning light stays on after turning the engine on

The passenger side airbag remains off even when occupied by my 17 year old daughter (115lbs) and wife (125lbs). Hyundai initially claimed the seat was operating normally. I then received a recall notice for this exact problem. The seat has since been re-calibrated at least twice and the entire seat replaced once. However, the problem is still exists.

The passenger buckle was replaced in april 2017 after airbag light came on. October 2019 went to dealer to have airbag light checked and they again say the passenger buckle needs to be replaced. They say it is not covered by hyundai 15 year warranty on seat belt buckle issues. Code is b1518. They say it has to flash a different code for the extended warranty. Paid $406 in 2017 for the repair and will need to pay $480 to have it replaced again. I rarely use the passenger seating because i usually drive alone. I am the original owner.

Srs light came on while driving when the passenger shifted slightly in the front passenger seat. Light reappears on restarts and stays on. Ocs recall was done 9/23/11, but have still had problems with this. Think the current problem is related to the cushion, but know hyundai won"t repair a second time. Seems to be a major problem with this model from reading other reports of the same issue.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.when a passenger is seated in the passenger seat, the air bag light dimmed.the passenger weighed 105 lbs.the dealer stated that the air bag remains off because of the weight of the passenger.while driving 40 mph, the vehicle shook and made a noise.the dealer stated that the failure was caused by a torque converter shutter that was causing the transmission to shift into overdrive.no repairs were made because the dealer stated that the failure was a fuel economy feature and the repair was not allowed.while driving 50 mph, the contact heard a lot of wind noise.the failure mileage was 186 and current mileage was 1,900.

I bought a brand new 2008 hyundai sonata in november of 2007. I received a letter in the mail back in early 2008 about the recall on the airbag sensor. I took the car in a number of times and the dealership said there was no issue. I took the car in another time and the dealership saw the defect. What happens is the passenger airbag will come on saying the passenger airbag is off, even if there is an adult over 150lbs sitting in the seat in the up-right position. The dealership sent the seat to some place in california to be fixed and then was returned after three days. I got the car back and i was still having the same issues. I took the car back to the dealership again a number of times to get the issue fixed. I showed them pictures and videos but they told me there was no issue with the airbag. My sales-woman suggested that i file the lemon law on the car. She said that as long as i was still under the warranty that i would be eligible for the lemon law. I called the hotline number she gave me and they said i just missed the deadline by one month. The rep for the lemon law said i had two years plus 60 days to file. My deadline would of been january of 2009. I called the hotline in february of 2009. They referred me to the bbb auto line. The only thing bbb did for me was contact hyundai to set up an appointment with me for the district parts manager to look at the car. The first appointment was given to me with two days notice. I called the dealership to let them know that i was not able to make the appointment on such short notice. I am a manager of a store and i work 9am-6pm everyday except sundays. I was told that hyundai would schedule another appointment with me but i have yet to hear from them. I was also told that the district parts manager would not arrive before 9:30am and the dealership closes before i would have a chance to get there in the evenings and they are closed on sundays. I also recently found two more recalls issued for my car for the headlights.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired under nhtsa campaign number 08v161000 (air bags) but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage and vin were unavailable.

2008 hyundai sonata has a recall for the passenger air bag light.*njthe consumer stated when his wife sat in the passenger seat, the air bag light remained illuminated. The dealer wouldn't honor the recall because when the consumer sat in the passenger seat, the air bag light went off. The consumer stated he weighed 175 pounds and the recall letter clearly stated that the problem with the air bag light pertained to smaller adults.

Air bag light came on and stayed on after adjusting driver's seat.brought vehicle to dealership and was informed that driver's side seat belt buckle was defective even though no problems with operating seatbelt - repair cost $380.read numerous reports about passenger side air bag recall - had checked out - no problem with passenger side.read numerous complaints about sonatas from various years having air bag problems because of defective seat belt buckles.repairs were made on many but light came back on.seems like this should be a recall issue because of so many complaints.

The air bag light doesn'tgo off, it stayon at all times.i call hyundaiand they said theycan'thelp me!

Both at a complete stop while in gear and while moving at about 35 mph with my wife in the front passenger seat the air bag light remained on.in this vehicle that light is supposed to go off when someone over 85lbs sits in the front passenger seat.took video of three incidents over a period of two days.spoke to jenkins hyundai, ocala, fl where we purchased the car & they were unable to pull a code.they were also uninterested in the videos and stated that the front seat sensor is calibrated for 115 lbs +/-.as my wife is 128 lbs they feel that it is well within limits & that sometimes the airbag sensor will not sense her presence.i thought the limit was 85 lbs for small children.if we have an accident with my wife in the front passenger seat the airbags might not deploy.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the passenger occupancy air bag sensor failed causing the air bag light to remain illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the seat belt buckle pretensioner and the passenger occupancy sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired because the vin number was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v161000 (air bags). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle was maneuvered abruptly to avoid an object and swayed off the road into a ditch, crashing into concrete. The vehicle then rolled and landed upside down on its roof. The air bags failed to deploy. The driver and front seat passenger sustained severe bodily injuries. A police report was filed of the incident.the vehicle was destroyed and towed to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Air bag light is on. Was told the passenger seat mat sensor may be defective. Seat belt light flashes all the time unless the seat belt is hooked. Thought there was a recall to get the air bags fixed. Car needs to be inspected and won't pass with the air bag light on.

Dashboard air bag light has come on and off intermittently since september 2012. At this time the air bag light is off. The passenger safety belt light remains permanently on since september 2012 as well. Called the dealer hyundai of el paso and they said my car is no longer under warranty and is not included in the recall campaign. How can it be?

Air bag light on dash will not go out. Passenger seatbelt air bag light also will not go out with or without someone in the seat. Both lights are still on after a warranty visit at the dealership. They cleared the codes and did the tensioner repair, but lights are still on. Several blogs with similar situations have come up with an internet search but even those people have spent the $ to fix the issue and the lights are still on for them too. Please fix!!!!!

I was in a parking lot with the car turned off and used the keyless entry fob to open the trunk. The trunk flew up so quickly that the hydraulic hinge support, that props it open, broke off at the top. The abs & esc lights stay on when the car is running. Sometimes while i'm driving those 2 warning lights will flash off, then back on a few seconds later. When that happens my brakes don't work correctly, and make a rubbing sound that i can feel through the brake pedal. The automotive instructor at the college i work at looked at the brakes and it's the calipers sticking. The dashboard srs warning light stays on, and the passenger safety belt light flashes constantly when the car is running. It doesn't matter if there is someone in the passenger seat or not. The tpms malfunction indicator is the most recent warning light to come on and stay on until the car is turned off.seems like hyundaiproduced nothing but lemons for quite a stretch and not much is being done to help the consumer'

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated the passenger's air bag warning light continued to illuminate and the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle received unknown repairs under nhtsa recall campaign id number: 08v161000 (air bags). The dealer advised the passenger would have to meet a certain height and weight specification in order for the air bag to register and activate. The failure recurred. The dealer would not assist with any further repairs. The manufacturer was contacted repeatedly. The vehicle was not further repaired. The current and failure mileages were 27,540.updated 07/29/10the consumer also stated the tire pressure monitoring system failed. Updated 08/03/10

The air bag system stays off when my wife (120 pounds) is seated in the front passenger seat about 50% of the time. When first taken to a dealership with my wife, they refused to do anything because the warning light did not go on.the problem still continued. Another dealer sent the seat to california to be repaired in march 2009. The problem still persists.now, hyundaiusa wants me to return to the dealership again with my wife or someone of similar stature. This time, a hyundai regional representative willbe present.hyundai usa consumer affairs would not give any more information on what the process is if the problem persists thereafter nor would they give me the name and/or contact information of the anyone to speak to. They said they would forward on my case and i may or may not be contacted by someone at hyundai usa with answers to my questions. Otherwise, i just have to wait to hear what the hyundai rep has to say when my appointment is finally scheduled. Currently, waiting to hear from the dealer.

Airbag light indicator on passenger seat when occupied not registering person in seat if passenger not in seat. Seat belt light indicates fasten your seat belt with no passenger in seat, not safety @ all someone could get injured, i don't think i need to pay for it to be fixed, manufacturer issue, same problem on wsb news with another person, needs attention soon. Air bag frontal sensor/control module. I contacted all that should be concern but do not care wants my money and car payment company not taking it seriously.

Air bag light stays on all the time.esc light comes on whale driving and some time it will go out. Turning on and off esc switch will not turn it off.would this be covered under recall? thanksjerry

Seat belt light came on about 2 years ago due to a faulty seat switch.hyundai repaired the seat at no charge.now the seat belt light has come and the dealer says that the seat is to fault again.hyundai refuses to fix the seat switch again unless i pay for it, and that it is no a safety hazard.i maintain that it is a safety problem because if the air bags really become defective, we will have no warning.hyundai has extended their warranty on this problem to 15 years and/or 250000 miles, but they will only repair it once.

I am #84 having the seat belt buckle failure and the $300 repair so the air bag will work in case of a crash.

The passenger seat air bag sensor mat is malfunctioned. There has been a recall for the item and it's everywhere online but yet my car wasn't in the recall but it's the same exact problem. I have contacted company they won't say why only some cars were in the recall but yet mine wasn't even though it's same problem.

Since buying my vehicle in feb 2013. I've had nothing but problems with it. Air bag light, tire pressure light and check engine light came on and car has broken down on me. Took care to get fixed from dealership within in my 30 days warranty. Robertsons honda fixed the battery problem and the check engine light but not that other 2. They stated to me that they didn't have the correct equipment to fix it. Which is not my problem.

Air bag light will not go off, dealership said it was the passenger seat belt receiver, which i replaced with a new part, airbag light is still on and now i am told it is the passenger seat pressure sensor.i saw there have been recalls but was told my car was not included.i am unable to inspect the car in the state of maine now.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the vehicles instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the set sensor had failed and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v161000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.

My 2008 sonata with vin [xxx] does not recognize smaller adult passengers resulting in illumination of the "passenger air big off" light in the center console.i noticed this around 2009-2010.i did research this problem online and noted that a recall was issued (recall number 08v161000), which affected the vehicle's "occupant classification system" or ocs.at the time, there was not a method to research my specific vin, so i brought the car to tameron hyundai in birmingham, al in the 30-50k mile range.tameron hyundai did not perform extensive testing, but rather had a "130 lb" mechanic sit in the vehicle and claimed that my passenger air bag "occupant classification system" or ocs was in working order.the car continued to fail to recognizing smaller adults.however, more recently when a larger adult passenger sits in the passenger side that can trigger the passenger ocs, the red dash air bag warning light illuminates on the dash.immediately when i noticed the change in the operational status of the vehicle, i called hyundai customer care regarding this issue.they created the case number 10343035 for reference to my case, and referred me to frank hyundai. I took the vehicle to frank hyundai where the problem as a malfunctioning passenger ocs which was the subject of the recall above.both frank hyundai and hyundai customer care advised me that my vehicle's vin number was not subject to the recall on the ocs (recall number 08v161000).the cost of repair was greater than the vehicle's value.i was easily able to afford a replacement vehicle, so i disposed of the vehicle and obtained a new vehicle.however, i am concerned about the safety of others who still drive similar vehicles.i think some sonatas may have been overlooked in recall 08v161000, and i think the campaign should be extended to other vins.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.the contact noticed that the air bag warning light would constantly illuminate on the instrument panel when his small statured wife sat in the front passenger seat.the vehicle was repaired twice according to nhtsa campaign id number 08v161000 (air bags).both remedies have been insufficient in properly repairing the failure.the manufacturer did not provide any assistance.the failure and current mileages were 7,000.

Car was part of the passenger airbag recall and seat was replaced years ago. Problem was never fully fixed as sensor still failed to recognize passengers at times.now dash board air bag light is continuously illuminated.also, passenger seat belt indicator constantly flashes with no passenger.

Air bag light came on and is still on. I had diagnostics done at a hyundai dealership and i paid for it.it said it is b1448 description pcs (occupants classification system) mat defect.she explained that the air bag may or may not work when someone is sitting in passenger seat.

The airbag light went on on the dashboard and the 'passenger airbag off' light was no longer illuminated when there is no one sitting in the seat. Error code b1448 was found to be the error, which is a faulty passenger seat sensor mat. I have small children and this may be an issue because the airbag will always deploy regardless of who is sitting there. This happened while stationary upon turning the car on one day.

I received a recall letter from hyundai . I called and got the answer every thing is ok. Buta few days ago, i tried to adjust passenger side seat. Suddenly the airbag signal turns on. I went to the dealer to fix it. They said there is no issues in my car.i do not understand where is recall. Airbag is big issue on safety. I must turnthe airbag light off . Big problem is still exist.what do i do? they try to hide recall.

The front passenger seat belt buckle assembly failed, took to dealership and code of b1518 came up. Basically the seat belt buckle needs to be replaced and then when replaced the air bag light on the dashboard will go away.with the error in the seat belt buckle, this thus illuminates the air bag light on the console. This seems to be a known issue with this make, model and year and yet hyundai is not doing anything about this and wants us to pay everything out of pocket.

My car is at the dealership at pearson hyundai, midlothian tpk richmond va since nov 21 2019 for air bag recall repair. That is 3 weeks. The did not provide me with a loaner. I have spent $700 on a rental and had to turn it back in. Every timei call them, i get the run around. I can't go to work now. I am a single mother and now i only have one present for my daughter. Is this a type of complaint that can be filed with your organization?

"air bag" light stays on.passenger side seatbelt light blinks on and off.likely a sensor issue, but seems to be a recurring problem with 2008 sonatas.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that he took his vehicle to the dealer for inspectionbecause he received recall notice # 08v161000 (air bags). Upon inspection the technician did not make repairs, because he could not identify a failure. However after inspection he noticed that the passenger front air bag sensors misclassified an adult as a child. As a consequence in a situation that warrants, the air bags may fail to deploy. The dealer was recontacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 8000. The current mileage was 10,000.

Sometimes the passanger air bag off lightturns on from new to present problem has persisted and dealer ignores the situation.

We have a 2008 hyundai sonata and we have had this vehicle in the shop 5 times for the same defects. The passenger air bag light unless you sit completely still in the seat it will not come on. They supposedly fixed it the last time it was in but shortly after we got it back it started doing it again, another problem is there is a noise under the front end and every time it hits bumps it sounds like something is broke.

Air bag light has come on and hasn't gone off...mechanic say it may be a senor but when i looked up the vin to check open recalls nothing pops up but from further reading this is a main issue with these vechiles

1st air bag light came on and stayed on. Second seat belt light keeps on blinking.

During routine use, while a passenger was in the front seat and i was driving on the highway, the airbag warning light illuminated. The error code was b1448, which appears to be associated with a malfunctioning occupancy sensor. While there is a recall of other 2008 sonatas for similar problems, the dealer and hyundai claim that my vehicle is not covered under the recall. I am concerned that hyundai has incorrectly excluded vehicles from this recall. This malfunction appears to result in the passenger airbag being disabled, which could increase the risk of injury to passengers. Please advise if there is anything that can be done to correct this issue for myself and others similarly impacted by the malfunction. The warning has not gone away, and reappears after being reset.

My air bag light came on in my car about 2 months ago i didn't pay it any mind at first until i realize that it is a safety issues when driving and an accident occurs. Not sure what is the problem with it but it needs to be fix

On july 19, 2016 at or about 1500 hours, i was driving to the store to get some food, on the way out my apartment complex, i believe my hyundai sonata 2008 allowed me to go about two blocks down from where i live to shut off in the street right before i approached the stop sign. I also remember hearing two weeks prior to my vehicle shut off, while driving i heard this knocking sound in my engine, i thought it was the new starter that was replaced but then a day or two later it stop making that knocking noise. I called around to find answers no one had a clue to what was going on with this vehicle. Everything was working just fine until july 16, 2016. I had this vehicle since april 17, 2009 and i can't not believe this vehicle has a major issue like this at point and time. I could deal with regular maintenance services but on this flip sided coin; not having a vehicle to crank or one that just shuts off with out any engine lights or warning is a complete mystery for me, but i think it is time hyundai give me some answers to this problem... Lets also be clear there was oil and gas in the vehicle at this time of vehicle in motion shut off.

While the car was parked in the driveway of my home, i turned the vehicle on and the airbags lights came on the dash. I drove it work and hoping the airbag lights will turn off and it did not. I took the problem to the hyundai dealership for evaluation. A little history, my airbag lights came on back in 2012, case #10352554, the vehicle had a recall for it. The dealership sent the front right passenger seat to california for repairs. The problem was fixed. Now jump forward 2017, my airbags light came on again and the dealership advised me the problem is not related to the recall back in 2012. The dealership advised me the problem now had to do with the front passenger seat pressure sensor (cushion) for the airbags. According to the dealership they would have to replace the whole front passenger seat to fix the problem in order for my front passenger seat airbag to deploy properly during an accident. I feel that this is a defect with this hyundai vehicle and a secondary problem related to the airbag recall. I feel the problem should be investigated further to prevent any injury or death.

I t boned a another person front end of car was completely smashed in my car was totaled . My airbag sensor was checked at the north little rock service hyn sonata. 2008 it was cleared and said to be ok. .my air bags did not deploy . The police were surprisedthey did not go off considering my whole front end was smashed and move backwards a good 2 feet completely across my front end they made note of it in the report and didmy insurance company . I did not seek medical attention . The next couple of days my neck was tight ..

44 times the passenger air bag light has stayed on with a passenger in the seat(6-17-08/7-22-09) hyundai co. Has repaired attempted to repair the problemaug, 08,but the problem still exists. I must turn the engine off and restart the veh.. To clear the problem.very concerned for safety reasons.

Haven't been in a crash recently, but air bag light randomly came on for no reason. Will not go away (3 days now)

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 30 mph, the air bag and seat belt warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic. The technician stated that he front passenger side cushion would have to be replaced. There was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 08v161000 (air bags) that could have been related to the failure. The technician stated the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.

Airbag indicator lite up and the passenger seat belt light began to flash.

I got the airbag light on in couple days ago.

I would like to file a complaint due to a faulty ocs sensor on my 2008 sonata (error code b1448). This is a known issue hyundai initiated campaign 083 to address. In this case the dealership huffines hyundai did fix the problem by sending the whole seat out to have the sensor reprogramed.however this same sensor failed again. The dealership claimed that they can't reprogram the sensor again and offered to fix it again at my cost (extremely high cost). They are claiming that under campaign 083 their responsibility is to only repair/reprogramming the ocs sensor once. This is a serious safety issue since this ocs sensor failed and the complete airbag system is compromised and won't activate in an accident. I escalated this issue to hyundai corporate customer care resolution team and they echoed the same comments as the dealership.their responsibility is to only to repair/reprogramming the ocs sensor once. I asked to have this escalated the next level and this person basically said no and he wouldn't escalate it. After doing some lengthy research there is no other safe way to have this fixed other than going through the dealership at high cost to me or any others.this is a known issue with the ocs sensor, hyundai knows it's prone to failure. They don't replace the sensor, just reprogram the same faulty sensor and then won't fix it if it fails again.this seems to be a decision by hyundai to put profits before customer safety. Why was this not a full government forced recall? was hyundai getting around the recall rules by issuing a campaign? campaign 083 effected close to 400,000 vehicles.

Air bag light is on. Dealer states the passenger seat, only the part you sit on needs replaced.$1000.00.

For the past year i have had this car when i bought it used. I heard that there was a recall about it when i looked it up but not my car specificly. For the past year my airbag light has turned on and off every now and again and now its just on. I continued to look up details concerning the situation and there have been many recalls for my vehicle but not mine specifically. And since it is a used vehicle i do not know if the previous owner or dealership has done the recall for it.

I received a recall notice from hyundai indicating that there is a defect and the "passenger air bag off" lamp illuminates while the right front seat is occupied by an small stature adult.i have twin 16 year old daughters and when they sit in the right front seat the light sometimes goes off and it sometimes stays on.i contacted the dealer and let him know the situation and i was told to give it another week.on 9/23 i contacted the dealer again in newark ohio and again explained the situation and craig barger informed me he would have to contact his rep.he let me know via email on 9/26 that again unless i could show them that the light did not go out they couldn't do anything.i then contacted the hyundai customer assistance center and informed them of the situation and they informed me that they could not do anything unless i proved to them the light would not go out.he told me to go straight to the dealer and i informed him that during the week i work and after work the dealer is closed and has minimal hours on the weekend.i am frustrated and concerned that the safety features of this car is not what i bought.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated the air bag lamp was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the air bag system was defective, as a result the passenger side sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered noassistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa recall campaign number: 08v161000 (air bags). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 85,000.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.the contact stated that whenever his 115 lbs. Spouse sits in the front passenger seat, the air bag indicator illuminates and eventually dims.the vin is included in nhtsa campaign id number 08v161000 (air bags).the vehicle was taken in for the recall and the seat was supposed to be shipped away with his spouse's weight specifications; however, the air bag light currently no longer dims when she sits in the passenger seat.the current mileage was 8,000 and failure mileage was 7,800.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.each time a 260 lbs. Occupant is seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, the air bag indicator illuminates intermittently.this indicates that the air bag system was deactivated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately seven times to determine the cause of the failure; however, they were unsuccessful.there is a recall regarding this issue, but the failure has still not been resolved.the current mileage was 10,351 and failure mileage was 1,200.

It was purchased march 2008 from dave mengay in rainbow city, alabama. Within weeks of owning this vehicle, i noticed that the passenger airbag off light was not going off when adults were seated. Per the manual, this light should only be on when passengers less than fifty pounds were seated in my front passenger seat.for my first oil change in june 2008, i took my car to the hyundai dealer in huntsville, alabama to have serviced and to check the problem with the passenger airbag light. At the time, the service department was not able to duplicate the issues. I later called back, and was told that they are aware of the issue and that my seat may need to be serviced in california. After my move to illinois, i took my car to be serviced for the passenger airbag light. At this time, i have had my car serviced for this issue at least eight times. This is truly ridiculous. The airbag is one of the safety features that have decreased accident related fatalities. In the event of a crash, my passenger may not be protected due to the issue. I have attempted to follow up with my local hyundai dealer many times with this issue. Just recently, a service representative, told me that she was working with the hyundai customer service and they wanted to try one last option before seeing what else could be done. On the same day of my last service appointment, the problem reappeared. I contacted her a few days later. Despite her promises of call backs, i have never received one. I called last saturday, august 15, 2009 to inform the managerial staff that i was about to write to consumer affairs and wanted to give them one more attempt to help me. The sales manager, promised to call me back on monday after 2 pm. Not only did he not call me back, but when i called him on the monday, he told me that he was waiting on a call back and would call me back by 9 pm which he did not. Now my esc light is coming on while i am driving. I have had it serviced for this but it still does it.

My 2008 hyundai sonata was affected by the airbag sensor recall. I took it in to the dealership where i bought the car to have it repaired. My car was in the shop for 3 days and it was returned to me but the airbag sensor problem still persisted inconsistently. I am a 120lb adult and the airbag sensor does not recognize me as a passenger when i sit in the seat. I have taken the car back 10+ times trying to get this problem fixed and ultimately they gave me a brand new passenger seat because they could not figure out what was wrong with mine. Unfortunately the problem is still continuing even with this brand new seat. I am scheduled to take the car back in to the shop next week and am hoping they will get to the bottom of this fiasco soon. I have been dealing with this for a month now.

2008 hyundai sonata. There is a recall but we are told ours is not part of the recall. However at least 75% if the time when i or my husband are in the passenger seat the passenger airbag off light is illuminated. We have taken it in to hyundai over and over, they have reprogrammed it several times even replaced the entire seat but we still have the same problem. The seat does not recognize me or anyone as an adult, computer registers me as not being heavy enough and i weigh almost 200lbs.i am told by hyundai they will not give us a loaner till the problem is resolved and they are not responsible is we are in an accident and the airbag does not deploy and it causes more serious injury. It has been over a week since the seat was replaced and they have made no determination other than our seat is not under warranty. We have been taking it in for this problem since last summer, not long after it was purchased it!! what can we do?

Front passenger side airbag remain deactivated (sign shows that), several times, when my wife (120lbs, 5'3) sits on it. Have been to dealership once and they sent the seat to hyundai service center for rectification, but the problem is still there. This can be a serious situation in case of crash, as having properly working airbag is essential for passenger safety.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. When someone was seated in the passenger seat the air bag light illuminated which also indicated that the air bags would not deploy in the event of a crash. The dealer stated that there was an internal failure within the air bag. The seats were taken out of the vehicle and reprogrammed on two occasions with no change in the failure. The contact was also informed that it would be costly to replace the seat or the air bag sensors. The contact notified the manufacturer and filed multiple cases each time the vehicle was repaired. The contact is aware of the safety risk if the air bags fail to deploy in a crash and the possibility that a serious injury could occur. The contact is also concerned that attempts to repair the vehicle have been unsuccessful. The failure mileage was 200 and the current mileage was 20,000.

Own a 2008 hyundai sonata.the air bag light just came on and won't reset.dealer said it could be several things... Replace seat belt or the seat at a very high price.dealer also stated that there was no guarantee that the light would not come on again after making the so-called repair. They couldn't even tell me if the air bags would function while the air bag light was on in my car.i'm pretty much at a loss on this one.whatever happened to safety first??

I was involved in a front end collision with a 30ft mound/railroad track. My airbags did not deploy. There was a significant amount of damage, enough to deem the car a "total loss", yet none of the airbags deployed, i suffered physical injuries to top half of by body by literally slamming into the steering wheel and windshield. Had my air bags deployed there would have been minimal injuries to my body.

My 2008 hyundai sonata gls has a "passenger airbag off" light that lights up even when a grown adult is in the seat. I fear that the passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident even when an adult is sitting in the passenger seat.this light has been illuminating for the past 2 years.i took it to a hyundai dealer in illinois, and the dealer refused to fix the issue, saying it was not covered by a certain recall.

The front passenger airbag light comes on when a passenger who weighs over 115 lbs is seated in the seat.the light states the airbag is off.this is definitely a serious safety issue because if the airbag is off it will not deplore if there is an accident.therefore with the exception of the seatbelt, there is no other safety feature in case of an accident.the car was purchased under the assumption there were front and side airbags which apparently will not be the case because of some sort of defect in the sensor for the passenger seat.this is intermittent but nonetheless is not a chancei should have to take with my passengers.this needs to be addressed and fixed immediately or my money should be refunded so i can purchase another vehicle with reliable safety features.the fact that this vehicle is rated 5 stars in safety features needs to be reevaluated.

The passenger airbag off light remains on even when an adult is seated in the passenger seat.sometimes the condition can be cleared by restarting the vehicle but other times the condition remains the same.adjusting the seating position and seat location do not seem to affect the problem at all.

My 2008 hyundai sonata passenger air bag system remains off when passenger is in seat. I have taken car to dealer numerous times and hyundai still has not fixed the problem. I have asked for information showing weight restraints or limits of system with no answers. I feel this is a major safety concern.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While the seat belt was latched in place, the air bag and the passenger seat belt unbuckled warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to dealer. The technician diagnosed that the passenger seat sensor and the seat belt assembly need to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,000. The vin was unavailable.

The airbag light does not go off when a lighter weight passenger is in the front passenger seat which we find very unsafe for our passengers. The weight it should register to go off as we understood is a body being over 85 lbs., but there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when it stays on or goes off to make the passenger safer. Many drivers are light weight as are many passengers and this should be fixed for safety. Occasionally when restarting the car, the light suddenly goes off and sets the airbag ready for use if needed, but it is very annoying to restart your car several times and a waste of gas. After several restarts and hoping, the light sometimes never goes out. This is with the same light weight passenger so it does not make sense. Also the automatic headlights come on much later than dusk and therefore make unsafe driving conditions if the driver thinks they have come on and yet they are delayed much longer than normal. Paying for this feature just to not have them come on in time for dusk makes for buyer dissatisfaction among the feeling of being unsafely driving with out lights at dusk.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact took the vehicle to crown hyundai (5301 34th st n, st. Petersburg, fl 33714, (888) 727-9161) regarding the rear back-up sensors and an unknown nhtsa recall related to the engine control module (ecm) cluster. When the dealer attempted to update the ecm cluster, they disabled the vehicle. The dealer kept the vehicle for twelve days, but did not provide a remedy. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a loaner vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 3,000.

Oil leaks from front valve cover gasket drips onto the alternator causes electrical system to shut down causing engine to shut down in traffic while in motion

I have the 3.3l v6 engine that is also in two other vehicles made by hyndai. Both of those vehicles have been recalled due to the fact that the engine leaks oil from a faulty gasket and drips onto the altenator. This causes the alternator to fail prematurely and often without warning. I am on my third one now and it is showing signs of failure. This can be extremely dangerous on the freeway when the vehicle all of a sudden loses all electrical power. This scenario has happened to me twice now. No headlights, no dashboard indicators, no brake lights, no turn signals. At 70mph this creates an extremely dangerous scenario.

Engine died while driving. The cause was alternator failure due to oil leak from front valve cover. This is a 2008 hyundai sonata 2008 with 3.3 liters v6.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.while driving approximately 65 mph, the contact heard a very loud clicking noise coming from the vehicle.she approached a traffic light and proceeding through it by depressing the accelerator pedal.the vehicle hesitated severely and was pulled off the road.the occupants exited the vehicle.the contact opened the hood and noticed flames.the fire spread to the roof and the interior front end of the vehicle.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel prior to the failure.the police and fire departments were called to the scene.the fire department representative stated that the failure was caused by an electrical breakdown.the passenger was injured and transported to the hospital by an ambulance.the insurance company has not yet determined if the vehicle was destroyed.the failure and current mileages were 15,000.

When i put my car in park turn off the car my parking lights come on cant turn them off at switch have to disconnect my battery for fear my car wont start, also at dark while im driving i switch my lights to just the running lights my windshield wipers come on. No matter if my switch is on auto or off my lights still stay on. When i turn off the car and at times i cant get my key out of the ignition i have to wiggle the shiftier, and if that dose not work then i put my seat belt back on and push the lock and unlock button on my key fob. So with all of this i cant use the alarm nor the ability to unlock my door and to have my interior lights come on at night. This needs to be fixed because of the night time security features.

While driving the seat belt light came on. About a minute later the radio shut off. Next most of the dash lights came on , the engine would not make power/accelerate, and the braking seemed weak/jerky.pulled into a parking lot as soon as i could. Now all dash lights were on/blinking and the radio, sunroof, windows etc would not work. Thinking it was an electrical issue i left it running to investigate.next thing i know the car is overheating even though the gauge isn't showing it. Steam everywhere and the overflow popped the cap off. Shut the car off. Once the car cooled i was able to see what happened. Oil has been dripping on to the alternator from a leak in the valve cover gasket. This killed the alternator which in turn caused the control/braking/acceleration issues one it was on battery only. I'm assuming the fan was not cooling either which resulted in the overheating.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the key would not turn in the ignition switch. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the ignition switch failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000.

Would not start, lights worked.tow truck driver checked battery, alternator, suspected starter.towed over 100 miles home.(contacted hyundai road service, only tows to dealer.)called dealer to check if covered under warranty.informed it was not. Towed tolocal mechanicwho checked charging system and found alternator and battery good, but starter was bad.removed and installed a new hyundai starter.re the america's best warranty60/000-100,000:one would think that hyundai would have covered this replacement with only 52 miles over 60,000.

Car will not start. It's not battery related. I've found several complaints from sonata owners of model years 2006-08. People have come to find out that it's ignition switch related. My car was parked, it has a brand new battery in it.

Esc light on along with check engine....need push button and turn off engine a couple of time.

Engine control module(ecm) failed without warning while the vehicle was stationary, requiring extensive repairs. May have also caused battery, alternator, brake switch, condenser fan, and other electrical components to fail.

On the 3.3l engine there is a fault in the intake manifold gasket that causes oil to leak onto the alternator causing premature alternator failure. If the vehicle loses power while driving this can increase the risk of a crash. This problem has happened on other vehicles with this same engine such as the veracruz and a recall has been initiated. For some reason the recall does not extend to the sonata as it should. The following is from the veracruz recall involving the same engine. "hyundai motor company (hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2007-2012 veracruz vehicles manufactured from december 26, 2006, through july 24, 2012. The affected vehicles may experience an oil leak from the front cylinder bank valve cover gasket. If there is a sufficient amount of oil dropped onto the alternator, the alternator will be damaged causing the charging system to become inoperative."my alternator has failed twice now, once while driving and i experienced a total loss of vehicle power. I was able to force the vehicle to the side of the road without incident but it easily could have gone bad on me as i was on the freeway in traffic. Once my alternator and subsequently my battery died i was left without control of the vehicle and without lights on the vehicle to warn other drivers of my situations.

Approximately 3 months ago i tried starting my car (with no previous warnings that this would happen) and it would not start, the engine would not turn over, there was no sound (although i did have power through the battery as i had lights, the lights worked, radio etc) -- i called my father and he suggested that i put the car in neutral and try starting it which it started right away at that time. Now three months later i had the same problem, turned the key and nothing -- no sound (except radio, lights etc -- new battery not that) -- i tried repeating putting it in neutral and didn't work -- i tried moving back and forth from park to neutral and tried starting the car each time to no avail.i stopped for a short time and called my father again for any additional advice which he had none at that time.when i tried starting the car again it finally started.i drove right to the dealership and they said it was probably the starter going bad and would be a minimum of $350 -- i later spoke to another mechanic who mentioned that if the starter were going bad that there would be a "clicking" noise when i tried starting the car with no start.this was not happening.it appears by blogs in the internet that this is a common problem with the 2008 sonata yet all the dealership wants to do is charge me a lot of money.

I first noticed a problem with my 2008 hyundai sonata on friday 08-05-16 when i exited a highway and my seat belt and battery indicator lights began to alternate flashing. I scheduled an appointment with my mechanic a few days later (they are closed on weekends). While driving the vehicle over that weekend those same two indicator lights would continue to alternate flashing when driven below 40 mph. On 08-09-16, while driving on the highway to the mechanic, numerous other indicator lights on the dash began to turn on one by one. After exiting the highway the vehicle began stalling and ultimately lost power. My mechanic replaced the alternator and noticed a significant oil leak near the alternator. He steam cleaned the engine and then found an oil leak from the "front valve cover gasket" was the cause. He replaced it. I'm aware other hyundai models have been recalled for the exact same problem. We also own a 2007 hyundai veracruz and we experienced the same problem to that vehicle one year ago, when the veracruz was 8 years old. This happened to my sonata at the same "age", 8 years old. The veracruz damage was covered by a hyundai recall. I believe the 2008 hyundai sonata needs to be included in hyundai's recall.

Both the rear brake lights and the rear dash lights stopped illuminating (11-12-2011). I also have the esc indicator light going on and off (past 6 months)there was a warranty replacement on the stop lamp switch done on 10-23-2009.service department invoice states esc off light on caused by:recovered c1513 due to faulty brake lamp switch.work performed: installed 93810-3k000-qqh stop lamp assembly switch.problem still occurring!!!!

2008 hyundai sonata 6cyl dohc 3.3l / 152812 water pump went out. Replaced it. Then water ended up in the oil that got into the lifters. Ended up getting another motor. Then my a/c stopped working (didn't blow cool or cold air). Changed oil and oil filter myself along with the oil sensor ( connected to oil filter spot) that was leaking bad as long as the car was running.i was driving on the interstate, in front of a loaded 18 wheeler, driving 75 then my car jerked real hard then dropped down to 40. I had to pull over illegally to keep from getting hit by the truck. As i was catching my breath i turned the car off. When i started it back up it made a weird tick noise. Haven'theard that noise since. When i pulled off it hesitated to change gears from 2 to 3. It finally changed and did not come out of 3rd. Got it towed home. Had my moms boyfriend to check the transmission. He drove it and it was fine. Next morning started car and it sounded like a vacuum cleaner. (low volume) finally it went away. When i headed to work,it hesitated at first. The vacuum noise came back and was louder. Then i sped up to 50, it hard jerked again, and stayed in 3rd gear. As i went further loss powerin inside lane of highway and car was smoking under the hood. Like it didn't know i was pushing the gas pedal. Started shakingat around 20 miles an hour. Pulled over and check engine light came on. Called a friend to pull me back home. It was reversing fine but would not go forward. So i changed the accelerator pedal sensor (whole pedal) that wasn't the problem. So then i changed the entire fuel pump/ injector. Still have all parts by the way.that wasn't the problem either. Put it on the machine and it gave a code for ecm and oxygen sensor.esc light came on as well as tpms, when i started the car. I could move forward but it was like i wasn't. This all started in february 2019

Noticed oil was leaking onto my alternator, causing the car to shut off. Issue with the valve cover gasket.

Trunk opens by itself.will enter car and see that" trunk open" signal on dash is on.has happened dozens of times.i cannot figure out what is causing it.one time the trunk was open but the latch was in the closed position and i could not close the trunk until i manually opened the latch, but all other times i was able to simply close the trunk.the dealer says i must be unintentionally pushing the remote trunk button, but that is not the case for dozens of incidents.they say i must leave the car so they can create the problem, even though this issue is all over the internet in car forums.in fact my friend has same car and same problem.

Trunk was opening on its own intermittantly. This was our 55000 mile scheduled service so we reported it. They checked and found nothing wrong but told us they greased the trunk latch and it should be fixed. A few weeks later it is happening again. We think its an electronic defect, but by the time they figure it out we'll be out of warranty. We don't dare put anything of value in the car.

The contact stated that the ignition switch failed to work when attempting to turn the key over. The vehicle failed to start randomly on several occasions. In addition, the door latches failed to open from outside and inside the vehicle. The dealer and an independent mechanic were notified. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.

I have a 2008 hyundai sonata and i have well maintained my vehicle but one day i hear a small ticking noise i took it to the dealership and they said it was the spark plugs so i got the full tune up. The very next day the car didnt want to start. Ive tried everything but nothing seems to work. I also did research and a few others were having the same exact symptoms in their cars. Also lots of people were complaining about the 2011 hyundai sonatas also. I also found out that they use the same engines for the 2008 i think we alll should get a fair play

My 2008 hyundai sonata was parked in my driveway on november 24, 2013 at around 11 am. I opened my trunk with the remote key and the trunk opened up so fast, the hinge tops on both sides that support and guide the trunk lid broke off at the top. Just disintegrated. These are defectively manufactured plastic caps/covers on the two hydraulic hinges.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle would turn on by itself when the ignition was placed in the on position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the ignition switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 72,600. The current mileage was 72,700.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.while driving for approximately three hours, the contact noticed that the trunk ajar warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel.another motorist alerted him that the rear of his vehicle was on fire.the contact pulled over and noticed that the wires in the trunk were on fire.he was able to safely extinguish the flames and resume driving.while driving 40 mph in third gear, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted to first gear.in addition, the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel.he is in the process of having the vehicle inspected to determine the cause of the failures.the failure and current mileages were 43,000.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the electronic stability light engaged and caused the vehicle speed to decrease. The contact stated that the failure only occurred when the weather temperatures were hot. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 42,000.

Esc off warning light comes on intermittently at start up and during driving of vehicle, stalls at traffic lights or stop signs and find that shutting off vehicle for a few seconds and restarting seems to clear the issue but the esc lights comes back on within minutes. Happened 10 time in past 2 months, then twice over this past weekend, now the light will not go off and the esc switch does not work.

Esc off light comes on randomly along with airbag warning.

The abs esc off dash light is coming on while driving down the road, will not go off until car is turned off.began doing this about once a week, now it is doing every day.does not help to turn the button on/off.

Esc light intermittently illuminates around 20 - 25 mph when brake pedal is pressed. Inspected the front brakes and no problems noted. Checked tire pressure due to tpms indicator light illumined. Tried to reset sensor by disconnecting vehicle battery for 2 hours. Test drove the vehicle and esc light still illuminating intermittently. Brought vehicle to dealer and they replaced brake sensor switch. Reviewed complaints for vehicle type and noted that previous recall for same switch on 2006 - 2007 model year vehicle. Wife told that extended warranty does not cover this item.

The esc off light on the dashboard of my 2008 hyundai sonata comes on after it has been driven for a few miles.when this occurs, the rear brake lights stop working.if i shut the engine off and restart the car, the esc off light is unlit and the brake lights function normally.i understand there was a recall on 2006 and 2007 sonatas for this very problem (nhtsa campaign id number: 09v280000) that involved a defective stop lamp switch.my car is out of warranty and i must fix this problem as soon as possible due to extreme safety concerns for my family.

The esc off does not turn off even after pressing the esc switch. Both esc and esc off turns on after the ignition is switched on and stays for a few seconds. Post that the esc light goes off. But after few minutes esc off light turns on. This problem seems to be with most of the hyundai sonata

Esc light on along with check engine....need push button and turn off engine a couple of time.

"esc off" warning light illuminates occasionally.shutting off and restarting the car usually fixes it.

Esc off light flashes intermittently after the stop light switch recall "fix". Issues with brake lights still illuminating after car has been put in park and turned off. Has been happening in all types of weather, no specific incident caused it to occur. It began to occur more frequently since oct 29.

Air bag light stays on all the time.esc light comes on whale driving and some time it will go out. Turning on and off esc switch will not turn it off.would this be covered under recall? thanksjerry

Pedal to the metal rusted out brake lineclose to $1,000 to repair

Brought in 2008, after 2 years esc light keeps coming on sometimes dealership can detect other times the light is not on. They claim they find nothing.

On 04/08/2014, i was driving with my family when the steering wheel locked; then i stepped on the brake pedal and the wheel became loose and i was able to regain control of my car. Once we got to our destination i parked the car. Later, when i got in the car to return home, my car's ignition switch was not turning and the steering got locked as well. On 04/09/2014, i towed my sonata car to the dealer at momentum hyundai: 2775 auto mall pkwy, fairfield, ca 94533 for service. I described the issues to the service agent and i asked him if my issue was a recall and he said "no". The dealer charged me $736.40 for labor and for these car parts:body & switch ass [fp number: 81910-3k010]cylinder assy-str [fp number: 81920-3ka10]bolt-safety lock [fp number: 81919-31000]note: on 04/06/2014, the steering wheel and the ignition switch had locked; but i was able to pull the steering wheel left and right and the ignition switch finally turned and the car started. But on 04/08/2014,i couldnt solve the issue myself. This is scary, especially when i was driving and had my family with me. Gm, and toyota have recalled millions of cars because of the same issue; and i dont know what hyunday is waiting for to do the same. I hope hyundai is not waiting on people to get severely hurt to raise a flag and announce a recall on their models. Hyundai should recall its models to prevent the loss of lives. If hyundai does a recall of its models to solve the issue i have experienced, i would appreciate they refunded my money. Thanks.

I have a 2008 hyundai sonata and the esc is on and it will not go off.i noticed the year 2006 and 2007 sonata's were recalled for the same issue. The 2008 sonata's should be recalled as well.according to the recall the problem is with the stop lamp switch which can cause an accident.

Last week we noticed that the "esc off" light was on. Tonight on 5/24/2012 we noticed that the brake lights were not working. I had to just barely plug in the brake light switch wire for the brake lights to work again. This was a problem with earlier sonatas the recall was nhtsa action number: pe09003. My 2008 exhibited the same problems with the esc light and the brake lights.

Today my abs light went on and the brakes became rock hard could not press down on them. Then i parked the car checked all fluids and belts, turned the car on again the abs light turned off. Started to drive tried accelerating from 25mph to 30mph then esc light went on locked my brakes tried driving to park in a safe place as soon as i parked the car and turned it off a bad smell and lots of smoke came out of my front tires and rear tires. Got car towed breaks are ok my mechanic pressed the esc button off and now breaks are soft. I believe there is a malfunction that you should look into that will cause a recall. Also tpms light randomly goes on and off. Tire pressure again is fine. Please consider looking into this. It?s the only car we?ve had for about 9 years and now my daughter drives it to school. Safety please!! thank you, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While driving the check engine light and esc light go on simultaneously.when this occurs, the car goes into reduced power mode ("limp mode") and you are not able to drive above 15 or 20 mph.this is a very dangerous situation, especially when driving on the highway.this is a known issue with hyundai in which they issued tsb #'s 09-fl-003-2 and 10-fl-010.the tsb's address a faulty throttle position sensor which is to be replaced with a new one with different settings than the original.one the part is changed, an update to the electronic control module is required.there are numerous accounts of this incident happening.how can a flaw of this magnitude not warrant a recall?

While driving at any random point and time the e.s.c control comes on by itself and if i do not notice right away and apply the brake the brake seem to become effected i will hear a grinding noise the car will slide as oppose to coming to a stop this a very dangerous problem. As yet i have not had an accident but the potential is there. This has happened four times over the last six weeks.

Several times the esc light has come on and i noticed a lot of drivers have their brake lights going off. I don't know if this is happening but i made an appointment and the light will not stay on so i cancelled. It did stay on once for 3 days along with the check engine light but i gotmy tires changed and both lights went off. Since then the esc light keeps coming on but after it sets or you park it and restart, the light resets and goes off.

I purchased a certified used hyundai sonata 2008 a few months ago and we decided to test it on a long drive. We changed the oil, filled up the tank and making sure that we have everything we need we took off to boston (ma) a 750 mi drive from columbus (oh) for a family reunion. On our way back the esc off light came up causing an instant loss of acceleration and a dead gas pedal. I learned that if i turned off the car the light went away and i could drive for another 10-15 min until the light came up and we had to pool over again. We drove 10-15 miles at the time all the way home praying that i would not have to pool over in a construction area where there was no place to pool over and traffic would have to stop until i would restart my car. It was nerve wrecking because i had to stop very often in the middle of nowhere during the night without knowing if the next restart will work again. My wife and our 11 months old were in the car with me and i all i wanted was to get them home safe.

Esc off warning light comes on intermittently at start up and during driving of vehicle where the engine is sluggish, stalls at traffic lights or stop signs and find that shutting off vehicle for a few seconds and restarting seems to clear the issue.happen one time in past 2wks, then twice over this past weekend.surprised to find all these claims on this issue and no recall notice.

While driving on the interstate the driver's side sun visor was pulled down, the visor could not be returned to the up position. The visor is in line of sight of the driver. I replaced the driver's side sun visor and now the passenger side sun visor is doing the same thing. A week ago the esc off light turned on and now it turns on randomly but resets it self when car is turned off.

Esc light illuminates intermittently.sometimes the brake lights do not light.noticed that there is a recall on previous years but not the 2008.

Ever since the purchase of my 2008 hyundai sonata i have had problems with the tpms and esc lights/system.over the years if i would turn the car off then back on it seemed to reset the system and the lights would go out.i did have the tpms system repaired under warranty years back and it seemed to lessen the problem however now 8/29/2014, the lights will not go off even after stopping and starting the car.i had the wheel sensors tested and they are all working.the repairs done when i first had the car took days and i remember they had to replace something behind my glove box which they said was a radio that read the signal from the wheel sensors.seems like the same problem and i see others have the same issue with these lights. I have called the dealership (preston hyundai in boardman, oh) and am waiting for a return call.

Engine failure -lower rod bent no cause by operatorcar well maintained.

Loud knocking sound from under hood. Gets louder as engine heats. Unsafe to drive

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that there was a premature failure with the motor, there was no oil lean and that the vehicle was consuming a high volume of oil every 30 days. The oil and engine warning light randomly flashed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection and diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine a solution to repair the vehicle. The contact was uncertain if the manufacturer may be able to provide a remedy to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v568000 (engine). The failure mileage was 30,000.

Engine seized at around 124000 while driving.i have replaced with a used motor and now i believe the engine is going to blow again at the same mileage.i have used only mobil one synthetic oil in both motors.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle seized. The vehicle was not able to restart and was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 108,000.

I was driving my car and, according to my mechanic, the crank rod came loose.i bought this vehicle used so the hyundai 100,000 mile warranty will not cover it.i have done routine oil changes and up to this point had no real problem with the vehicle.it is disappointing to say the least as i have had this vehicle for about four years and purchased it based on the idea that hyundai's are supposed to be reliable vehicles.i had hoped that hyundai would have done something to help remedy the situation but at this point they have not, which is also disappointing.in the future i will not be purchasing a hyundai.

Cars valve cover and or timing cover leaks on the alternator causing the alternator to be "soaked with oil "(dealers words). At any time thereafter the alternator could fail causing the engine to stall and causing injury. Hyundai refuses to replace the alternator but is replacing the alternator in the 07-12 hyundai veracruz under recall with the same engine design and the same alternator placement. I have 2 cars an 08 and an 07 sonata that both had the same problem. Why does hyundai want to recall the veracruz and not the hyundai with the same problem? the car has been in 3 times for inspection and a call to hyundai on 04-13-2014. Hyundai refuses to replace the alternator.

Was heading to work on interstate 81, engine made loud boom sound scared me pulled over being afraid to drive had it towed to an auto repair shop.no engine light on.repair done a diagnostic test said engine was blown, oll good no engine light but engine wouldn't turn over trying to do manually.my car only had 180,000 miles always did belts and maintenance.

I purchased this vehicle from a small car dealership, when purchased the vehicle had a pretty high mileage however when test drived no service lights came on and the car ran smoothly. After four months of owning the car with only around 2k miles added to it, while i was driving down the freeway a knocking noise suddenly became apparent and the check engine light came on, i pulled over as soon as possible since there was visible smoke coming out of the hood of the vehicle.

I heard a ticking while traveling to ma on 684 north of ct when the noise got louder. I stopped and had to tow the car home. When i when on in the hyundai sonata forum there were a lot of folks talking about the problem. They mentioned talking to the dealers but no one heard of a recall on the engine. So i just like them had to fix the engine by the way which is the most expensive 4 cylinder engine out there. I also called the manufacture about it and they told me that there's no recall yet and i have to fix it myself. Well i went to got the bearing and craft and a oil pump. This is when i learned that they have redesigned a oil pump that car 06 07 08 09 models. I asked the guy why would they do that, cause it means you have to buy a new oil pan and bolts, he said there is a defect in the original oil pump. So i said it's costly for us so why they don't do a recall? he said no one is complaining and it's very costly for the company. So i ask can someone look into it . Really why would they redesign a oil pump for a car as old as just five yrs old.

Engine died while driving. The cause was alternator failure due to oil leak from front valve cover. This is a 2008 hyundai sonata 2008 with 3.3 liters v6.

The contact owned a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated. The following day, the vehicle started making a knocking and rattling noise, similar to metal on metal, while driving 40 mph. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and noticed flames under the hood near the engine. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was totaled and towed to a junk yard. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was 125,500.

Engine control module(ecm) failed without warning while the vehicle was stationary, requiring extensive repairs. May have also caused battery, alternator, brake switch, condenser fan, and other electrical components to fail.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While driving at various speeds, the engine stalled without warning. The contact stated that the door became inoperable and failed to open using the key. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. The vin was not available.

Oil leaking down from timing cover onto alternator and down to oil pan found during routine oil change.took to one dealer, was told no leak.took back to my mechanic, took pictures, took to another dealer and was repaired. Found timing cover leaking, remove timing cover, v/c gaskets and pump gaskets.

I was driving on the highway when my car threw a crank rod. In doing some research i see that this has happened on numerous vehicles having faulty bolts on the crank rod cap. There has been no recall but is an ongoing issue with many owners.

The engine out of nowhere began to knock (engine knock) and nobody from any point of management will help me out with this problem, even though it their engine and they will not take responsibilty for it, not help or anything was provided, the vehicle had began knocking after i had started it up one day and began driving it, i noticed the warmer the engine got, the louder it got, i took it to 2 different dealers and one of them being a hyundai dealership and one being a kia, both said the same thing

Upon starting the car, i heard a high-pitched whine from the engine that increased in volume and intensity as i accelerated (in town), and then i observed two puffs of smoke or steam arise from under the front of the hood.i immediately stopped at a nearby mechanic, who observed that the front cylinder bank valve cover was leaking oil.the whine, which gradually went away, may have been oil getting onto the alternator belt.fortunately, we seem to have caught this in time, as the alternator did not appear to be damaged, but it easily could have been, as the edge of the valve cover hangs directly over the alternator in the 3.3l v6 engine.the leak may have been more of a "sweat" for an undetermined amount of time; only the whine alerted me to anything being wrong, and may have been a sign the leak was getting worse over time.the mechanic replaced the valve cover gasket.what is frustrating is that hyundai has issued a recall for this same problem, on the very same engine i believe, for their vera cruz models, but not their sonatas for the same years.they should recall the sonatas with this engine as well, as the alternator can be destroyed if this isn't caught and fixed.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While driving 40 mph, there was an abnormal tapping noise and the vehicle stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to coconut creek hyundai (4960 n. State road 7, coconut creek, fl 33073, (954) 283-1002), but was not diagnosed or repaired. Additionally, the engine failed three times previously and was replaced under warranty. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 35,000. *dt

Driving approximately 50 mph when i heard pop. Smoke came from under hood. Pulled over. Popped hood. Smoke coming from engine. Checked dipstick and no oil. Never had oil leak. No oil light ever came on. No check engine light. No overheat or hot engine light.just a small fire underneath the engine on ground.bought oil that just leaked immediately after putting in. No warning.no signals.no alerts. Blown engine.they want $5300 for a used engine.

I recently reviewed hyundai recall campaign 121 (nhtsa campaign #14v415000), which describes that 2007-2012 veracruz models may have an oil leak at the front valve cover gasket. The recall states that "if a sufficient amount of oil drips onto the alternator, the alternator can be damaged resulting in the charging system becoming inoperative." it goes on to state a risk of vehicle running on battery power, until battery voltage drops, and then potential for engine shut off, which increases the risk of a crash.in july, i took my 2008 sonata to the local hyundai dealership for service. The service department noted on my invoice that "left and front valve cover gaskets are leaking", and that "the front is leaking on the alternator." this appears to be the same mechanical issue noted in recall campaign 121, it is just happening on a different hyundai model. In my opinion, the risk of damage to the alternator on my sonata (via the confirmed oil leak onto it) is the same as what is described in hyundai recall campaign 121. I believe the valve cover gasket leak issue with my sonata should be addressed by hyundai in the same manner as how recall campaign 121 is addressing the valve cover gasket leak on the veracruz models.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated while driving at 55 mph, the vehicle overheated with the low oil level warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither a dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 236,000.

Car made a popping noise going down the highway then lost acceleration.the car then burst into flames.

I read your recall today re: the same make/model of car that i own.my hyndai sonata is a 2008.i am experiencing exactly the same issues listed in the recall since the beginning of 2015.i have spent more money than i have trying to fix this car (which i am financing currently).the engine light has been on, there is a knocking noise coming from the engine and the car will not "get up and go" and feels as if it may stall out upon taking off forward after coming to a stop.loud knocking noise coming from under the hood when you step on the gas.they only way to get rid of the noise is to let off of the gas.

Was driving to martinez and heard a slight clicking sound by the time we exited freeway at martinez exit the sound became very loud. When we stopped at light car died and wouldn't restart. Had car towed to wheel works and the told us that the engine had oil everywhere and no oil in the engine. The mechanic discovered a hole in the back part of the engine. Mechanics can't figure out why or how it happened. It sounds like to me that there was a mechanical defect in the engine.

Driving while using cruise control at approximately 65 mph the check engine, air bag, and e.s.c light illuminated. Also, a simultaneous internal engine explosion resulted in an instant fire as well as a rod thrown from the vehicle damaging block and setting the car on fire from a resulting massive oil leak. There was no prior damage leading up to the incident nor any indication to my knowledge that there were any concerns with my car till it was too late unfortunately.

Engine oil evaporated. No leaks or drips. Now motor making a loud banging noise when started. Had it checked by a mechanic he said the engine is shot, needs to be replaced. The bearing is bad on the bottom of the motor and the crank shaft is damaged. Looking on the internet this seems to be a very common problem. Also this is a 4 cylinder motor which in theory should be a less expensive replacement that a 6 cylinder and is not. This is because of supply and demand. These engines blow up is what i was told. It is very common and should be recalled. I see that there is a recall on the 2011 for the same problem. These engines should not blow up.

When vehicle is started from a cold start, there is a noticeable rattle coming from engine that lasts about 3-7 seconds. Also while accelerating, the rattle is persistent with throttle input. I was told that the problem is the timing chain tensioner and that the hyundai sonatas have defective timing chain tensioners. I went to the hyundai dealership and they quoted me $1,100 to fix the problem and made me aware that there was a tsb but not a recall on the part even though there is a revised tensioner. This is a ongoing issue and a hazard because the chain could have to much slack and cause the the timing to be off and future damage for the engine.

Oil light never came on, however no oil was in vehicle, took to southern auto mart in georgetown, sc they said it was okay, they changed my oil.two weeks later no oil, engine is no good.

Driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph when my vehicle lost power without any warning whatsoever, including power steering. Momentum and struggle steering allowed me to move from center lane to shoulder of the road safely. Initially thought it was the leaky head cover gasket that slowly leaked onto the alternator. Had it towed to a reputable mechanic who later informed me the engine had seized. He did verify that was oil in the engine at the time. The car was not even 10 yrs old and purchased brand new.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle began to make a loud ticking noise. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 108,000 and the current mileage was 108,112.

The engine started knocking loudly, slowing down and idling rough. I pulled over and the car would not remain running in idle. I had the vehicle towed and inspected at the house and the valves are bad. It happened without any warning, lights or gauges coming on or prior noise. I was driving around 45-50 to work when this happened out of the blue.179,000 miles on the car and regular oil changes since i had the vehicle. I purchase the vehicle with 60,000 miles.

While driving 65 mph on interstate, a began to hear a knocking sound that became louder and louder. I had two mechanics look at my car and both said that the car was about to throw a rod. On december 13, 2014 the car stop running altogether.i had no warnings prior to this happening, and i had regular oil changes. In fact i had the oil changed just two weeks prior to this incident.i am having ricart hyundai in columbus, ohio (where i purchased the vehicle brand new) look at my car on april 2, 2015. I am interested in what they are going to say or do about this since it is no longer under warranty.i just want them to tell me exactly what happened to this engine and what if anything they (manufacturer) can do about repair. This is my second sonata (i still have the other car with over 150,000+ miles) and never had any problems like this before. It may be my last hyundai, if i am not satisfied with results.

On startup when cold, engine makes knocking or tapping noise.noise goes away after +/- 30 seconds.i'm told it's a timing chain tensioner, a known problem in these 3.3 v-6 engines, but hyundai will not recall them.the reason, i'm told, is that the engine must almost be completely removed from the car for repair.

My ervin ceased up on the highway at 60 mph. It thru an engin rod.the engin oil made it impossible to see anything. Now after just buying this car used, there are no engines available for replacement. Too many have blown up. And hyundai says they are not being recalled. Same engin as the failures with the fatalities.i am stuck.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While driving 30 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated for the driver side without warning. In addition, the check engine and tire pressure sensor warning indicators illuminated and turned off independently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the front end of the vehicle caught on fire. A police report was filed. There were no injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard where it was not inspected. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure and current mileage was 130,000.

This issue effects 2.4 liter gasoline direct injection engine model sonatas. Metallic debris may not have been fully removed during manufacturing of the engine crankshaft. If the debris was not completely removed, oil flow may be restricted through the connecting rod bearings, causing connecting rod damage. A worn connecting rod bearing will produce a metallic, cyclic knocking noise from the engine and possible engine failure resulting in the need to rebuild or replace engine.my engine first failed out in october of 2016 and caused me to require an engine replacement.in august 2017 that same engine had the exact same issue happen to it. This has been 2 of the 2.4 cyl i-4 engines having the exact same issue on the exact same care with around the same mileage on both engines.there have been many various complaints reported all over the internet effecting this engine.additionally, there is an open recall by hyundai for the 2011 hyundai sonata for the exact same issue because the 2011 sonata used the exact same engines that are in the 2008 sonata.the link for that recall is here: nhtsa campaign number: 15v568000url: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2011/hyundai/sonata/4%252520dr/fwd%252520latest%252520release#recalls

Driving on i-94 in battle creek, mi, the 2008 sonata, after making a ticking noise for a year (which the dealership would not look at) began to make a grinding noise and something flew out of the engine and smoke came pouring out of the vents. I pulled to the shoulder on this busy interstate and called roadside assistance from hyundai. They sent a wrecker, and when the car was lifted, all of the oil was on the road. They towed it to the nearest dealer 30 miles away in kalamazoo, mi and they told me that a rod and piston had flown out of the bottom of the engine of the car. After doing some research, there seems to be a problem with faulty crank rod cap bolts. The ticking i think was from the rod cap that had come off. As of now, they are not doing anything under warranty awaiting oil change receipts. Please force a recall soon, as this could be an extremely dangerous situation. Someone could have been killed by the flying piston. Luckily it flew off to the side of the road.

Visor above driver will not stay up.whenever driving have to put the visor to the side to have a clear vision of the street.this is a hazard even when the sun is not shining.

Rear brake lights (both along bumper and in the back window) failed to come on although all fuses and bulbs are working properly. Problem has persisted since.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, she was informed that none of the brake lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken for repairs. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number 09v122000 (service brakes, hydraulic:switches:brake light). The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 75,925.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact was driving 30 mph when the brake lights failed and the stability control lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer stated that the stop lamp switch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 61,000.

I cant keep headlights working on the passenger side and the wires are melted so its hard to even change the bulbs. Anyways i have been through 4-6 bulbs since feb. But most of the time i go without lights on that side even though it makes it hard to see at night.

Esc light illuminates intermittently.sometimes the brake lights do not light.noticed that there is a recall on previous years but not the 2008.

One of the rear brake lights are not turning on while applying the brakes. On investigation i found that it might be due to the brake lamp switch issue mentioned on hyundai's website and they recalled a lot of vehicles in last couple of years. When i checked about the car's eligibility on hyundai's website, i found my car as eligible for repair free of cost. After talking to the dealer for fixing of the issue, they said that my vehicle is not eligible for the repair. Then i sent an email to the helpdesk with the details. Also, i contacted them on the helpline number. As per them, my vehicle was already recalled a couple of years back and the switch was replaced with a high quality part which should not create any more problems and i'll have to bear the inspection and replacement cost. I would like the company/dealer to get this fixed asap since the part has again started creating problems in just 2 years and i am worried with the further problem it may cause to my and my family's safety. I came to know about this issue today morning while commuting to office.

The headlights on my car are angled too low while using low-beams and the visibility at night is bad. This has been an issue for the entire time i have had this car and i am now aware that i can file a complaint against it. High-beams seem to function ok.

The brake lights will not go off!a light says esc off, when i turn the car off , later the light is out but i still do not have functioning brake lights they just stay on while in motion.

Im just writing because im getting alot of alerts from you guys and i dont live at the same address when i purchased my car. So im not getting my recall letters or notices. So what im woundering is what do i have to do to make sure my car is not being effective by theses recalls. Thank you and have a nice day.

I was unawarewhen i have turned on my parking lights - not my headlights. Dashboard lights are the same for either choice. Toooften i amunaware when i have not turned myheadlights on..dealer response was - no cars give you visual indication of the selected level of outside lighting.this is dangerous and has cause near misses often at dusk.

2008 hyundai sonata.consumer writes in regards to vehicle problems shifting into reverse or park and faulty brake light switch .the consumer stated her son drove the vehicle to school, and when he tried to straighten the vehicle, he discovered that it would not shift into reverse or park. Her son had to get assistance, to push the vehicle out of the parking space, so he could shift into drive. Her son was able to drive away, and while driving, it became apparent the cruise control was not responding normally by disengaging when he applied the brakes. He immediately drove to an auto center. The auto center determined the brake light switch was faulty and replaced it. The consumer stated shortly after purchasing the vehicle, she began having problems with the bower/fan switch, which would operate intermittently. After several visits to the dealer, they finally replaced the fan on december 6, 2011. On or about july 2012, she again began to experience the blower/fan operating intermittently. The dealer offered to do a diagnostic test to determine the problem. However, the warranty had expired by one week. Updated 11/25/13

After slowing down around a corner and slowing down to park, myengine surged and the car jumped a 6" curb and was stopped by alarge bush.i also had my brake down.this occurred on the universityof notre dame campus and was reported to notre dame security.

There is no shutoff when filling the gas tank. Once the tank is full or approaching full, gasoline forcefully spews out and douses the individual while holding the nozzle.

Fuel gauge "floats" and then drops to empty.pretty much always on "empty" now which lights my check engine sensor, but every once in awhile it will rise above empty for a few miles and then drop like a rock again!have been tracking gas mileage with my trip odometer, but having been reading that this "fix" is not always accurate, and people are running out of gas left and right on major, busy highways.as the mileage indicates, i drive more than 100 miles per day and cannot afford to have my car just stop running like some of the other people have mentioned.this is a major safety issue and should have been recalled well before now.are we going to wait for a repeat of the national airbag recall currently underway, trouble that shattered countless lives, because a large car company is too cheap to fix a problem they are well aware of and make their cars safe?government step in!

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel spewed from the filler neck. The contact also stated that the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the fuel purge canister and fuel tank filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Fuel line leaking under drivers side, passenger seat. There is a considerable amount of fuel leaking. Why wouldnt the manufacturer make the lines from a material that cannot corrode or rust.

The passenger side front door lock does not lockor move and the door remains open while driving. It happened in the last couple of weeks. Noticed when doors were locked remotely and the passenger side front was able to be opened,we see there are a number of door lock linkage recalls and service notices.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the latches on the rear passenger and driver side doors fractured. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the door latches needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.

Engine failure -lower rod bent no cause by operatorcar well maintained.

While stopped at a busy intersection, with engine running and clutch to the floor (disengaged), the car began to lurch against the brake.the clutch began engaging by itself because the concentric slave cylinder had failed at 61,500 miles.the dealer advised the car was 1,500 miles out of warranty, total cost to repair was $1950.00 and 3 days of service.because the leaking hydraulic fluid "soaked" the clutch, the $794.00 clutch/pressure plate needed replacement as well.hyundai will not honor any "goodwill" adjustment.

Esc light on along with check engine....need push button and turn off engine a couple of time.

Loud knocking sound from under hood. Gets louder as engine heats. Unsafe to drive

Went to dealership and advised of a transmission problem.supposedly a service flag was sent to dealerships and just "flush" the transmission.5 days later and 550 miles from home, the car broke down, was towed and advised i needed a new transmission. Still sitting out of state waiting for the part to arrive.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.while the vehicle was parked in the contact's driveway, his child was able to place the gear into neutral.the vehicle rolled backward, struck a utility box, and drove over a bicycle.when the vehicle struck the utility box, the passenger door was almost torn off.there were no injuries.the dealer sent a packet with paperwork asking for the vehicle description, insurance reports, and pictures.the vehicle is currently at the collision center being repaired.the entire passenger side was damaged. The failure and current mileages were 19,000.updated 06/23/09. *ljupdated 06/23/09.

I am #84 having the seat belt buckle failure and the $300 repair so the air bag will work in case of a crash.

When my daughter buckled the right front passenger seatbelt she stated it felt funny.during that exact time the seatbelt light began flashing and the airbag light came on.

Airbag indicator lite up and the passenger seat belt light began to flash.

I purchased a used 2008 hyundai sonata from a hyundai dealer there was no indicator lights on the said thecare had been inspected. I had the car for 3 weeks then a air bag light was on. So i took to the dealer because i had bought a 2 year warranty on the car. They told me that i would need a new seat belt buckle and they would have to reprogram the computer. Them i was told it was not covered under my warranty and i would have to pay over 400 dollars to get it repaired. How is this legal to sell a vehicle that is knowing sell a vehicle which they know about?

Car was part of the passenger airbag recall and seat was replaced years ago. Problem was never fully fixed as sensor still failed to recognize passengers at times.now dash board air bag light is continuously illuminated.also, passenger seat belt indicator constantly flashes with no passenger.

1st air bag light came on and stayed on. Second seat belt light keeps on blinking.

The drivers seat belt release latch does not operate properly. In comparison to passenger seat belt latch there is a significant difference in smooth operation to release the latch. Any tension placed upon the strap causes the problem to amplify drastically. In case of a vehicle rollover and a driver being stopped while the vehicle comes to rest with the vehicle on it's roof, it would be very difficult to escape the vehicle due to the drivers weight pressure on the release latch.

The airbag light is on and when ran on diagnostic machine it is the ocs mat fault.it has been reported an acknowledged issue on the 2008 hyundai but when i informed the dealership they said my body type vehicle is not covered? why would this be?

"air bag" light stays on.passenger side seatbelt light blinks on and off.likely a sensor issue, but seems to be a recurring problem with 2008 sonatas.

The airbag light previously would go on and off at times. But now it stays on permanently and the passenger seat belt light blinks on and off.

Im just writing because im getting alot of alerts from you guys and i dont live at the same address when i purchased my car. So im not getting my recall letters or notices. So what im woundering is what do i have to do to make sure my car is not being effective by theses recalls. Thank you and have a nice day.

Drivers seat lumbar adjusting cam broke while driving, this is the second time it has broken and the lower back of the seat pushed in abruptly. This was very distracting while driving on high speed toll road in heavy traffic. The metal cam which was broken off, was found behind the drivers seat.this is such a small piece of metal and does not seem to be strong enough for what is required. My definition of the cam is the mechanical part that actually makes the adjustment inside of the seat and also supports the weight of the drivers lower back. Similar to as cam of a braking system.

I've had the breaks grinding noise coming from the front breaks when driving and use braking. It seems that the brake assembly was coming loose and need to get it fixed with a workshop nearby

Rear driver size pads and rotors had to be replace when the car only had 14k miles.rear pads and rotors have to be replaced every 5-6 months.the brakes were burning and smoking. Dealer says its normal wear and tear.took car to another repair shop and was told this is not normal and brake pads and rotors should not have to be repaired every 5-6 months, the braking system is faulty and if not repaired it could cause the brakes to fail.

I was driving south on i25 in colorado near denver. The car was on cruise control, going approximately 55 mph. I saw a bus a couple of hundred yards away. The bus was either stopped or going very slowly. I applied the brakes and my 2008 sonata would not go out of cruise control. I tried canceling cruise control and braking and car remained in cruise control. At the last moment, i tried the emergency brake as i crashed into the back of the bus going about 55 mph. I nearly died. I couldn't breathe for 20 seconds. I have fractured ribs and fractured bones in my back. The car is totaled. It looks like a squashed accordion.

As others have reported, the brake lines on my 2008 sonata rusted through causing brake failure while driving on the highway. Repair costs near $600.service manager states that "every one of these cars will be in for the same problem" due to the design.the two brake lines and two fuel lines which run from front to rear on the vehicle (under the driver's seat) are held in place with clips and then the entire length is covered with a rectangular plastic cover (or raceway). While this might work well in other climates, here in the northeast "salt belt", this cover traps the road salt which collects at the clips and rots through the steel brake lines.fuel lines are not steel and are not affected.at the very least, hyundai should require customers to bring the car in for service to have the cover removed and discarded, and the lines washed off and inspected. If corrosion is present, they should repair the damage.due to the way the lines are routed, the position of the master cylinder and other components, the repair is costly - but is all labor.it is about $50 in parts and $500 in labor.

Grinding noise on rear driver's side brakes--discovered missing bolt on caliper frame, brake pads badly worn.all other brake pads in great shape, showing little wear.car is driven in rural area, with very little city driving.when i went to hyundai to buy a new bolt the parts guy said "this happens all the time" i think there must be something wrong here.also checked on line finding i'm not the only one having brake problems on the rear wheels.

Pedal to the metal rusted out brake lineclose to $1,000 to repair

Last week we noticed that the "esc off" light was on. Tonight on 5/24/2012 we noticed that the brake lights were not working. I had to just barely plug in the brake light switch wire for the brake lights to work again. This was a problem with earlier sonatas the recall was nhtsa action number: pe09003. My 2008 exhibited the same problems with the esc light and the brake lights.

My rear brake calipers were frozen/ corroded into the pads. The rear brakes were inoperable. This could have effected the ability of the car to stop effectively. The dealer said they would not replace unless the caliper was leaking. It was corroded at only 39,000 miles and 3yrs after bought.

I bought a used 2008 hyundai sonata with approx 50,000 miles on it in 2012.since purchasing is all it has been was one problem after the other.ihad to have the engine replaced this week (which is another story) and since my inspection was due i asked them to inspect the car also at a certified dealer.and again my car did not pass inspection due to the same issue as last year.caliper seized and needs new brakes and rotors again.i had a mechanic do the work last time since it was approx $200 cheaper than the dealer and i guess plan on it again at $500.00.im thinking it may be a good idea to get rid of this awful car prior to this happening again or anything else.wouldn't recommend a hyundai to my worst enemy. I am a grandparent and would hate for the calipers to seize while driving with my grandson, the safety of this vehicle is a concern

Brakes failed while driving down an incline in parking lot in tysons corner, virginia.had to pump brakes to stop hitting the exit gate.brake line rusted, broke, and all brake fluid leaked out.car had 102127 miles.never had a car with a brake line that rusted through.mechanics fixed by replacing section of steel brake line under right side of body subframe that had rusted and split.

The following is an email that i sent to the service department i recently went to for recurring brake/caliper issues on this vehicle.as you know i was in yesterday (buerkle hyundai white bear lake, mn @ 8:48 am invoice 183543) with my 2008 hyundai sonata with left rear brake issues.it seemed like the left rear caliper may be sticking.as i explained when the car was dropped off yesterday (2/5/13), we had just replaced both rear brake pads and rotors and the car only had 29,975 miles when the brakes and rotors were replaced on 12/22/2012.i brought in the previous brake pads and rotor for your inspection from the rear drivers side of the vehicle. The side that is currently having issues.it clearly showed the brake pads were completely gone and the rotor was scraped and ruined.this was shown to the service advisor helping me, brian coyle. I have attached, just a few out of several, websites for your review to show this is a known problem that has received many consumer complaints.http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2008/hyundai/sonata/service_brakes_hydraulic/problem.aspxhttp://www.sonatabrakedefect.com/index.php/sonatadefect/sonatacomments.htmlhttp://www.carproblemzoo.com/hyundai/sonata/brake-disc-caliper-problems.phphttp://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2008/hyundai/sonata/hydraulic+brake as you can see, this issue, definitely, needs to be addressed by hyundai as well the hyundai certified service department locations. The consumer should not be responsible for repair and payment of a known manufacturing defect, one time, let alone over and over again for the same issue.not to mention, brake issues like these and to this extent of needed repair at such low mileage.i really should not have been charged for a repair or for lubrication to brakes, etc, when the same thing was done to these brakes a few weeks ago.

After driving 1/2 mile or so the esc light would come on.after shutting off the engine it would always reset and go off but it would come back on after a mile or so of driving.sometimes it stays off for a prol;onged period of a month or so then the condition starts up all over again.this had been going on for 6 years.brakes have been checked/replaced as required.something wrong with the sensor?this should have been recalled years ago as many people have complained about the same issue.

We returned to the chicago airport from a vacation and were going to drive the rest of the way home, 200 miles to green bay. The brake pedal seemed to depress further than normal right away but we figured it was due to the car sitting for a week. We proceeded with our dive but after about 100 miles needed to pull off the road. The brakes were not responding as they should. We put brake fluid in the vehicle but still the brakes were not working correctly. At one point i had depressed the pedal all the way to the floor and the car was still moving. I found a mechanic to take a look at the issue right away and was told the brake lines were rusted through. After getting a loaner to get home, i had to drive back the next day and retrieve my car. This was at a cost of $750.00. This could have killed my family or someone else had we continued our drive and i would like to see a recall issued. I have reviewed the internet and found this is not the first issue of brakes failing on this vehicle, yet a recall has not been issued for the brake lines. There was no notification or warning light that went on in the car, only the presence of mind that something was wrong. I have the invoice from the repair that specifically states that both brake lines were rusted. I have asked the mechanic if he could salvage the parts for me to keep in case we need them. I have notified hyundai as well via e-mail.

The front brake system failed.

The brake lights will not go off!a light says esc off, when i turn the car off , later the light is out but i still do not have functioning brake lights they just stay on while in motion.

I have a 2008 sonata with 46,000 miles and this is the second time the brakes have given me a problem.the first time i had to replace the rotors too.this time rear brakes are going out again and are down to the rotors.i think there should be some kind of warning light to warn the driver that the brakes are going bad.but twice at 46,000 miles that is not normal!the dealer has said it is normal wear and tear.i have mostly driven highway miles and can't understand why this is happening.

I am driving a 2008 hyundai sonata and had my rear brakes deteriorate to nothing with out any warning. They were to the point where it was metal to metal and i had to replace my brakes and my rotors. The scary part was that the sounds metal to metal were not constant so if you did not know better you might debate on what the problem was.

Grinding of rear brakes beginning at 37,000 miles.car is driven all highway miles.brought in for service and mechanic was shocked to see pads were gone and rotors worn beyond repair.he said front brakes should usually go first.hyundai claimed pads should be removed and cleaned every 15,000 miles.assuming a customer was denying the brake problem due to the low miles the loss of brakes could lead to a serious accident.brakes and rotors will be close to $400 for repair.

Pulled off to the side of the road.snow on the road.started to move out to the road again when i noticed a loud grinding coming from the rear brakes.made it home and took the carto the shop where i bought it,healy hyundai in beacon ny.rear brakes down to metal and rotors going.they resurfaced rotors and said it was normal wear and tear.no other explanation.i did not appreciate this because even not having not much of a mechanical background, i never had trouble like this with brakes this early on and i have driven many a car and many miles. The car has 36,014 miles and heaelysaid the front brakes have at least a year to go.someone at hyundia needs to get to the bottom of this before this becomes alot worse.please i hope someone looks into this.also the dealers need to be honest with people and not blame an perceived defect in my opinion with the brakes on the driver. I have children and don't want the brakes to fail. Please look into this.

I purchased my 2008 hyundai sonata in february, 2008 brand new.since day one, i have had problems getting the car out of the park position.i took it to my dealer for service and they did replace the brake switch once, but this is still occurring daily and it is frustrating.often times it takes 5 or 6 tries with my foot firmly depressed on the brake pedal for my vehicle to get out of the park position.yesterday morning, i was stuck at a drive up window because i had the car in park and could not get it out again - took about 5 tries to get it into drive.

Need to replace rear brakes on newer car 29,721 miles.

Took car to dealer for annual state vehicle inspection and to have "chirping" noise from brakes checked.rear brake pads were at 3/32"; min allowed is 2/32".front pads ok at +7/32".replaced rear pads, machined rotors.mileage was 23,226; car purchased feb2008 and was regularly serviced at dealer.dealer sa advised that pad wear was normal and that 'on this model the rear brakes always wear faster'.when this was disputed the sa said that corrosion on caliper did not allow pads to withdraw and that constant contact wore out the pads.when asked about warranty coverage sa said that brakes are only covered for 12 months.subsequently noted that on side of car with sticking caliper that the paint on both steel wheels has peeled and wheels have rusted.tires have been rotated, front-to-back, several times since new.possible that excessive heat from dragging pads overheated wheels and damaged paint.also possible that there was excessive heat to wheel bearings.will have this checked at next service, or sooner.this premature rear pad wear is not normal for hyundai.also, presently driving a 2001 elantra that went 60k+ before needing brakes.never owned any car that had rear brakes wear before front.the number of complaints registered indicates that this is a design/material issue that needs correcting before someone is hurt.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sonata. While driving 35 mph there was a squeaking and a grinding noise coming from the brakes. The pin that controls the brake pads and rotors was worn. The pin controlled the movement in the brake calipers and when it does not move it deteriorates the calipers and rotors. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that she had to replace the brakes at her expense since they were not covered under the warranty or recall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 27,000.

Rear brake rotors rusted. Rear brakes worn. Replaced rear brakes and resurfaced rotors. Vehicle only has 35,570 miles. Front brakes fine. Rear brakes should be rusted and need repair at 35,570 miles.

2008 hyundai sonata purchased at duncan hyundai dealership in duncan,b. L bought the sonata with 40,000 km. And l paid hyundai about $100.00 for a 65. Inspection. The brakes were 75%. So l asked the dealership owner,to explain the 65. Inspection and l asked about the brakes being 75%. Hesaid 75% was just fine.but when l took the sonata into the shop for squealing, grinding rear brakes, the mechanic thought it was winter dirt and grime. L was charged 301.00for new rear brake pads. Lt,s friday july 3. The rear brakes are still squealing! ls there a recall?

Car had 19,000 miles on it, i bought it new. Grinding noise from rear drivers side wheel took it to dealer and was told that the rear caliper was not releasing which ruined the brake pads and rotor.told the car was not safe to drive. The rotor, caliper and pads had to be replaced.dealer covered the cost.never had brake problems with any other of the other cars i owned.my miles are highway miles and i do not have to use the brakes as often as i would in the city.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. She heard a noise near the brakes. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the brakes and rotors were replaced. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the brakes should be inspected every 15,000 miles but offered no further assistance. The current and failure mileages were approximately 27,100.

Rear brake squealing and getting hot.rear brakes on 2008 have premature wear due to brake pads hanging up on the slides.had to replaced the old pads with new pad @ 16k miles.

Purchased demonstrator car with approximately 2,500 miles for normal use.rear disk brake noise at 15,976 miles required both rear brake pads and rotors to be replaced under warranty.same problem happened again at 33,356 miles, again requiring replacement of pads and turning of rotors (this time it was not covered - considered normal wear items).once again, at approximately 52,000 miles, loud grinding from the left rear brake revealed that both inner and outer pads had been totally scrubbed off with light metal to metal contact, while the right rear pads still had greater than 50% of original pad thickness. The caliper slides operated smoothly and were well lubricated and sealed, and the pad slides were dirty with brake dust, but not corroded or blocked with dirt.the pads appeared to have been exposed to high heat.i replaced the pads to finish my trip and upon return it was apparent that the new pads had been dragging as evidenced by a strong smell and glazed appearance.it does not seem normal for this condition to happen - there was no grinding or abnormal noise observed during the most recent event, until pulling into our destination, when it was very loud.appears that the caliper or caliper piston is sticking to keep the pads in contact with the disk, thus overheating and challenging the brake pad life.this seems to be only on the left (driver's side) caliper.hyundai discussion forums have indicated this is a common problem that hyundai is not formally addressing.i will take the car to the dealer this week, but wanted to register with nhtsa since it is a brake issue with safety implications.

Rear brakes wore out.front brakes 'like new'.shouldn't front brakes wear out first as that is where the engine weight is?

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 20-25 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and noticed a very loud rubbing sound, like metal to metal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but there were no repairs performed. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was told to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The dealer polished the drumbs and reset the brake pads but the failure occurred again. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer at least eight times and the dealer polished the drums and reset the pads on each visit. The vehicle had not been repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileae was approximately 14,000 and the current mileage was approximately 18,500.

I have been concerned about the rear brakes due to the numerous complaints on mycarstats.com. Often when i get the car serviced by the dealer i have mentioned that they should check the rear brakes. This time was the 45000 mile service and i brought a printout of the 26 existing complaints. The service manager assured me that they always check and clean rear brakes, calipers, rotors, etc to prevent an early failure. Shortly after leaving the car, the service manager calls me to say that indeed the rear brake pads were worn out and needed replacing. I told him i thought that it should be under the bumper to bumper warranty because it was a known defect in these sonatas. He said brakes only had a 1 year warranty and i would have to pay. There was no sound or warning in advance. If it wasn't for the mycarstats.com website, i would have never known to keep asking. The front brakes are fine and have not yet been replaced. Driving is mostly highway. Is there a class action suit for this yet?

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle was being inspected by an authorized dealer and the dealer stated that the rear brakes were corroded.the vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 22,000. Updated 12/12/11*ljthe consumer believed substandard material were used in the initial production or design of the brakes. Updated 06/22/12

The braking system on this vehicle is poorly engineered and extremely frustrating to the car owner.after 16,000 miles, my rear brakes began squealing.after inspection, it was determined that the back brakes are sticking on and grinding off against the rotor.this is a recurring problem that can not be fixed, with multiple replacements the only choice.in the four years i have owned the vehicle, i have gone thru 5 sets of brake pads and 4 rotors, with no end in sight as long as i keep this car.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while engaging the brakes it produced a grinding noise. A local mechanic inspected the vehicle and determined that the rear brake system was defective. The dealer was contacted and advised the contact to have the failure diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and did not offer any assistance since there was no recall for the failure. The failure mileage was 29,000 and the current mileage was 30,000.

Rear brakes on my sonata started grinding at 25000 miles.contacted hyundai headquarters by email and they stated the brakes were out of warranty and no recall on this problem.i was informed by them to take it to the hyundai dealer.since this should not happen at this mileage i had taken it to my mechanic who is state certified. Hyundai needs to do a recall on this safety problem.i have kept the email response that hyundai headquarters sent to me.

At 10k miles rear brake rotors were glazed from sticking brake pads; rotors were machined and brake pads replaced. At 26.8k miles the rear brakes were "metal to metal" and brake pads completely worn due to drivers side brake pad being seized into rotors (dealers language).dealer attributed brake failure to increased corrosion due to our maine location. None of the other vehicles we have had exhibited these problems.this is a safety issue in that i have been operating the car for an indeterminate time with no rear brakes.the defect was discovered during a normal tire rotation.i suspect hyundai encourages tire rotation at every service interval in order to have an opportunity to examine rear brakes.

Premature wear of rear brake pads on a 2008 hyundai sonata.rear brake pads were completely gone at 35000 miles.my wife had brake failure while on the interstate.removed wheels at home and found calipers were digging into rotors because of complete erosion of brake pads.called dealer he said it has been an ongoing problem with this car.not sure why, hyundai offers no explanation or suggestions either.replaced pads with new ones, will wait to see what happens. I will inspect every 10000 miles to determine extent of future wear on the brake pads.front pads were at 8/32 rear pads were 0/32.. Pistons were clean on the rear and appeared to be working fine, both rear pads were gone equally.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata gls. The contact stated that the left rear brakes were grinding abnormally. The dealer informed the contact that the brakes were worn and would need to be replaced. The dealer replaced both rear brakes and pads. The current mileage was 30,279 and the failure mileage was 29,000.updated 03/31/11*ljupdated 04/05/11

2008 hyundai sonata with only 12,600miles, while driving with 2 small children heard loud noise from back of car while taking a turn. Brought to dealer and was told needed new brake pads due to rust on the rotor. Didn't have them do the work as the cost was large. Brought to our own mechanic who showed us the left rear brake pad was down to metal but the right was normal small wear. He called hyundai dealer as this didn't seem normal to him either. Warranty only covers up to 12,000 miles so we were out of luck. Hyundai goes on in every commercial about safety and when i think of a car brakes are the most important safety feature there is.

Recently brought my 2008 hyundai sonata in for a free inspection by my dealer.my brakes were inspected and my rear brakes were found to be 70% worn and the pads, etc... Were frozen resulting in premature wear!!!my front brakes are only 50% worn.my service manager said that this is typical for hyundai sonatas of this year but no financial remedy came from my dealer.i had to pay to have my brakes "unfrozen" and was told that within the next 3 months i will need to have new rear brakes put on.of note, my car only has 24,000 miles and my rear brakes should not have worn out this soon and certainly not before my front brakes.hyundai needs to get on the ball here and issue some type of recall.this is a major safety issue - i have a child that rides in this car constantly.

I have a 2008 hyundai sonata and had to replace my rear brakes at 24,000 miles.my dealer said that it had something to do with the calipers sticking and this caused my rear brakes to wear prematurely.my dealer also indicated that this is "a hyundai problem" and they see this a lot with "these cars."i contacted hyundai and informed them of this issue, and they were very rude to say the least with regard to their response.they clearly took no responsibility for this issue and for the most part lays the blame on the driver and the driving conditions.under no circumstances should the rear brakes require replacing at such low mileage.there are many other complaints listed here where other owners of these cars have had the same problems, yet no investigation is being launched and hyundai clearly refuses to take responsibility for clearly substandard braking systems.

Began hearing a dragging noise in the rear of the car and thought something was dragging underneath looked and saw nothing.got home and noticed that there was significantly more brake dust on the passenger rear hubcap than all the others.after further inspection it appears that the pad is completely worn because the brake is locking and then not releasing when it should.i have done quite a bit of research and noticed that many other people have had very similar complaints about this model year and malfunction.the common trend is low mileage so this is not a driver issue.this will ultimately result in the replacing of the brake pads and rotors at the very least.the car is currently with the dealership so they can tell us everything that is wrong.

Rear brakes wear out prematurely causing a potential safety hazard. The front brake pads are just half worn.

Rear brakes sticking on.first occurred at 35,000 miles and dealer notified me that the brake pads needed replaced, but upon inspection i saw that only one pad was worn to the metal, and the others were at > 50% life.i replaced the pad but the caliper and slider design is defective and the failure happened again at 40,000 miles.this time the car began jerking and suffered loss of brake performance as the indicator, along with noise, smoke, and odor.the hyundai dealer (mike miller in peoria, il) would not fix the problem under warranty, instead saying it was a normal wear item.

When i bought a new 2008 hyundai sonata, i soon experienced a squealing sound from the rear brakes. The dealership serviced the brakes. They said it was the shims causing the brakes to seize and keep from sliding properly. Within 30,000 miles the rear brakes were worn out. I now have 54,000 miles on the car and the rear brake pads are worn out. I discovered from my mechanic that this model is known for a premature wearproblem with the rear brakes. The pads seized in place unable to back off the rotor. I'm prompted to notify you due to the many postings of this issue on the internet. I'm not sure if it is a weather concern with corrosion or a design flaw in the caliper.

No failure occurred.the problem was detected before failure.i had the brakes checked at just under 45,600 miles expecting to have the brake pads replace.inspection showed that the rear brake rotors were made of defective metal which corroded and pitted badly.it destroyed the outer part of the brake pads so they did not make contact with the rotor.less than one half of the brake pad was providing braking ability.the rotors had to be replaced on the rear wheels as well as all brake pads on all 4 wheels.the brake pad replacement is expected maintenance.the rear wheel rotors were defective parts.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact engaged the brake pedal and heard a metal to medal loud screeching noise. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they informed the contact that when the vehicle was produced the manufacturer did not lubricate the pistons properly; and the quality of the lubricant was insufficient. The rear rotors were replaced at the owner's expense. Additionally, the owner's manual instructed that the brakes be diagnosed every 15,000 miles, and if the brakes lubrication was not functioning properly then the calipers would need to be replaced. The contact stated the information provided in the manual was not communicated to him at the time the vehicle was purchased, which was a significant concern. The failure mileage was 22,000. The vin was unavailable.

Thanks.

Steering the car became difficult and a loud whining noise would occur turning right or even slightly moving the steering wheel would cause that noise. Parked car in alley to wait on it to be fixed someone drove onto my property and swiped my car. Have recall on crossmember assembly but is the front covered also?

12/23/2015.2008 hyundai sonata gls.steering wheel locked while the vehicle was in motion this evening.i was driving on secondary streets in town at a speed of approximately 30mph when the steering wheel locked and would not turn while negotiating a very slight left hand curve in the road.i braked with intent to attempt to pull over and the steering unlocked and started moving freely again. I had made a 90 degree right hand turn about 1/4 of a mile prior to the steering locking up and had no problem or tightness in the motion.cause for the incident is unknown.i was not using cruise control, anti-lock brakes were not in use / activated.we did not experience any significant bumps in the road.we reached our destination without further incident and made the return trip also without incident. No police report or insurance claim has been filed yet as of the time of this post.

I am #84 having the seat belt buckle failure and the $300 repair so the air bag will work in case of a crash.

Rear driver side door handle found lying on the ground with plastic extension that activates door latch broken--had fallen inside door. Three weeks later, front passenger side door handle experienced identical failure. Purchased replacements from local hyundai dealer in each case. They did not acknowledge what is obviously a systemic design failure. Obvious safety issue due to inability of emergency responders to open door from outside in case of occupant incapacitation.

A couple of weeks ago, my driver-side inner door handle began to become loose and pop out.it is still partially functional so that i can open the door from the inside.the other day, the exterior door handle broke off when i was opening the car door.i now have to enter from the passenger side.nothing traumatic happened to cause this, and i don't use excessive force on my door.

Front driver's door handle and front passenger's door handle have fallen off. To get into car to drive anywhere i must climb through car from back seat. Recalls do exist for later years of this make and model.

While driving on the ohio turnpike, the driver's sunvisor dropped down from the upright position and partially blocked my forward vision. Subsequently the passenger side also refused to stay in the upright position. When i consulted with the dealer i was informed that i was 4 months out of the warranty period. I then contacted hyundai customer assistance and received a case number and was also told that the warranty did not apply. I was also told that i could have the parts replaced and apply to them for reimbursement but that there was no guarantee that i would be reimbursed for the parts or the replacement. I have since seen a hyundai technical service bulletin for 2008my hyundai sonata sunvisor replacement (service campaign t97) dated november 2009 which states that it applies to the western,sc, and southern regions only. Since it's description states "on some 2008 sonata vehicles, the sun visor may not stay in the stored (up) position. This bulletin provides the service procedure to replace the sun visor assemblies." applicable production date range, march 6, 2007 to january 10, 2008. Since my vehicle was built january 02, 2008 this would apply if i lived in any of those states (which i do not). Since this a not only a defective assembly but a serious safety issue, i fail to see why this should be limited to only those regions and not to all areas. At the very least it should be handled as a customer satisfaction issue even past the warranty period.

This evening at our local news channel wflx i saw a story about hyundai sonatas's door handles falling off.this lady had all 4 outside door handles break off. The news station said hyundai told them this is an isolated case. Not true. I have replaced all outside door handles and two of the inside handles on my vehicle. Just like the one the news showed. My sister in law who lives in jacksonville fl. Had the same issue. So it's not an isolated issue. First time my door handle broke. I took it to my local hyundai dealer (napleton's hyundai)and it cost me $600 to get it fixed. Since then i've been fixing it myself. Guess what, the door handle broke off again. This will be my 5th time fixing the door handles. Someone needs to look at this issue. If you need a picture i can upload one tomorrow.thanks for your time.

While the contact's son was driving or making turns at various speeds, an abnormal thumping noise was heard and the rear of the vehicle shimmied. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the rear control arm was rusted. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 90,000.

Exterior door handles are shearing off.left rear door handle came off on 4/24/2016.right front door handle came off today 11/29/2016.handles both came off when i pulled on them to open the door. No unusual force involved.handles are completely plastic. Shear point is narrow piece which connects handle to interior connector to door latch.i have never before heard of car door handles failing.

Tried to open driverside door handle come off in my hand 3 months after warranty was upnever heard of plastic door handle breaking.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the cross member of the vehicle was severely corroded. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred after the vehicle was remedied under nhtsa campaign number: 13v354000 (suspension). Instead of replacing the cross member on the vehicle, the technician applied a wax coating to prevent corrosion. The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,000.

Refusal of hyundai to review levels of rear crossmember corrosion on vehicles operated in the salt belt states because owner registered it in city/state adjoining this recall. After further reviewing the survey results, hyundai has decided to conduct a safety recall in affected salt belt states on 2006-2010 sonata vehicles.i have notified my local hyundai service center about this recall.their reply was since i live in the same city but on the wrong side of the state line (kansas city, ks not kansas city, mo) my vehicle is not covered and they will not review my vehicle for free nor will they replace the corroded crossmember for free since my state does not belong to this recall although my driving primarily takes place in this affected and included state.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the rear of the vehicle started to become uncontrollable. The contact moved off the roadway and noticed that the rear passenger side tire was tilted awkwardly. The vehicle was later driven to an independent mechanic where they advised him that the rear passenger upper control arm was severely rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000. The current mileage was approximately 137,000. The vin was unavailable.

Steering the car became difficult and a loud whining noise would occur turning right or even slightly moving the steering wheel would cause that noise. Parked car in alley to wait on it to be fixed someone drove onto my property and swiped my car. Have recall on crossmember assembly but is the front covered also?

Received notice for recall

We have a 2008 hyundai sonata and we have had this vehicle in the shop 5 times for the same defects. The passenger air bag light unless you sit completely still in the seat it will not come on. They supposedly fixed it the last time it was in but shortly after we got it back it started doing it again, another problem is there is a noise under the front end and every time it hits bumps it sounds like something is broke.

Passenger visor pivot arm failed to retract after a few uses.visor hung down slightly and would not go back up.passenger would hit their head getting into and out of the car on the visor.this was not covered under warranty.driver side visor pivot arm failed to retract shortly thereafter, after few uses.driver side visor hangs at an angle that occludes driver's line of view, thus a hazard for driver safety.also if a collision would occur, the driver would collide with hanging visor that points toward face, causing head trauma.

I am a owner of a 2008 hyundai sonata, i have been having this issue of when the car is in motion the driver side visor will fall down blocking my view. I dont know what the problem is but the visor wont just stay up and doing that while driving 70 mph is a very dangerous situation. They come down all the time once the car is in motion and does not matter the speed and it blocks your view suddenly.i tried to fix it but nothing seems to help,so i took to the internet to research this problem and i was surprised to find out that many hyundai owners have the same problems. It seems like more on the older models say 2001 up to 2008 or so. Hyundai needs to do something about this issue before sadly someone dies or gets hurt. It is a matter of time before something bad happens, it is not safe at all to have the visor block your view while driving. You have customers replacing these visors and guess what down the road they have the same problem come back. I love my hyundai but with this happening without any warning i dont feel safe being on the road. There should be a recall to fix this visor problems, that is not something that customers have to deal with since it is not something that is in use all the time. This is unsafe and very dangerous, dont wait to a life perishes or someone gets maimed by this defect.

Passenger side sun visor wont stay up.i heard , there may have been a recall on some models. Thought i would check. Thanks.

Sun visors do not stay up.this happens while driving, parked, all the time.very un

While driving at approx. 50/55 mph, all of a sudden the sun visor on the drivers side fell loosely right in front of my vision.as i was in heavy traffic, i grabbed it and held it up while driving with one hand until i could get off at the next off ramp.luckily, i had some duct tape in the trunk and was able to tape it up. If a woman had this happen while a child was in the car, the outcome could have been really bad!

First there was a knocking sound and the car would drag to accelerate. This lasted 3 days each day it gradually getting worse. By the third day i was driving the knocking sound grew louder, something fell off the bottom of the car the check engine light came on, the car completely stopped driving, then up under the hood it was a fire and under the front part of the car.

The passenger sun visor will not stay up, at all. The driver side will suddenly fall and it's very unpleasant to suddenly not be able to see while driving. They are ridiculously expensive to replace ($200.00) and my understanding is that this is quite common with hyundai vehicles. This has happened to me while driving on city streets.i have had the vehicle approx. 6 months and it has happened about 5 times. It really is startling. I'm really glad i wasn't on a freeway.

Car made a popping noise going down the highway then lost acceleration.the car then burst into flames.

Visors drooping down will not stay up, broken unable to drive visualy.

Sun visors fall down while driiving, blocks vision.

Sun visor droops down will not stay up blocking visual field.

Sun visor on both pass and drive side will not stay in the up position causing a hazard as the visor is in the line of sight and will come down unexpectedly.

Car will not start. It's not battery related. I've found several complaints from sonata owners of model years 2006-08. People have come to find out that it's ignition switch related. My car was parked, it has a brand new battery in it.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. While driving 2 mph out of a parking space, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated and crashed into a building. There were no injures. The current and failure mileages were 19,000. Updated 3/12/10 the consumer stated when the air bag deployed, it struck her in the chest. Updated 03/04/10. After slowing down around a corner and slowing down to park, myengine surged and the car jumped a 6" curb and was stopped by alarge bush.i also had my brake down.this occurred on the universityof notre dame campus and was reported to notre dame security.

While driving our vehicle the throttle had stuck, i pulled on the floor mat as i was applying the brakes thinking this was the problem. This was not the case as the car wasn't slowing down. I popped the throttle with my foot hoping this would free up the throttle, which just made the problem worse. I placed the car in neutral and shut the engine off, kept applying the brake until i safely got the vehicle to stop. I had the dealership look into the problem that same day to find out that the computer chip had failed. I don't want this to happen to anyone.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle accelerated on its own. The contact attempted to shift gears, but the vehicle would not shift gears. The contact then had to apply the brakes to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for a diagnosis. The dealer was unable to diagnose a failure. The manufacturer refused to look into the failure. The failure and current mileages were 30,000. Updated 09/07/2012

While passing a vehicle traveling approximately 40 mph in a 50mph zone, my 2008 hyundai sonata experienced 'sudden unintended acceleration' approaching a speed of 65-70 mph.even after applying firm continuous pressure on brake pedal was unable to slow vehicle down.while continuing to apply pressure to brake pedal, i shifted automatic gear shift into neutral and was able to gradually coast onto the shoulder of the road.when vehicle came to acomplete stop.the engine was still running at a very high rpm and sounded as if it were a jet airplane taking off.turned ignition off and let car sit for 1-2 minutes while i contemplated 'now what?'was unable to put car in park, so started car in neutral. Was able to move gear shift to drive and carefully drove car home.called hyundai corporate office next morning (monday august 31, 2020) to report my frightening and very dangerous experience.then called my local hyundai dealer to report and request they come and pick the vehicle up as i did not feel it was safe to drive.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph on normal road conditions and without warning, the speed reduced while pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal; followed by no power response. The driver was able to drive into the emergency lane. The engine was shut off and restarted. The vehicle resumed normal operation. The failure continued to occur intermittently at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician repaired the vehicle and stated that the failure was contributed to the throttle control sensor. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 14,000 and the current mileage was 15,000.

I tps was on it was -12 outside i was making a left turn at a low speed and i i tried to turn because ahead of me were 2 cars the car did not wanted to break or slowdown. I try to.hrwk but the car was accelerating it did not want to stop. I had to turn my hazard light on as soon that i felt the car not wanting to stop.i notice the rim was going high even though i was trying to.break.i had to pull to the side of the road tried to.put on the emergency break but the car didn't want to.stop so i can put on break.i had to keep.pulling on the emergency break finally it stop i put it on p. Turned the car off waited 5 minutes to turn the car back on and it seems fine now.but i was really scared what if i was was on the express way going fast and can't break.ever since that day i been driving really slow and cautious.

I had a terrifying experience and near/miss this morning.my 2008 hyundai sonata (limited edition) car suddenly accelerated for no reason as i was exiting an expressway doing 65 mph! i couldn't stop the car!my foot was slammed on the brake and i felt/smelled the brake, but the car kept accelerating.i flew through a stop sign at the top of the exit ramp, blowing my horn, whipped around the curve to a street on the right, nearly hitting 4 cars before i finally threw the car into neutral.my car has cruise control, but i don't use it.i was very shaken up, but miraculously, no accident.i had the vehicle towed to the hyundai dealer, and the technicians cannot find anything wrong with it. I won't drive that car again in its current condition.no way.i was terrified. This was clearly a case of sudden unintended acceleration.nothing like this has ever happened to me before, and i've been driving for 30 years.

The contact owned a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that they experienced a sudden acceleration in the vehicle. While attempting to pull into a parking space the vehicle surged forward. The contact tried to use the brakes to stop the vehicle, to no avail. A crash occurred and the vehicle was destroyed. The vehicle was traveling 25 mph. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileages were 30,000.

On two separate occasions, the vehicle accelerated with no warning.the first occurred sat september 30.i filled my car with gas and was pulling into a parking place when the vehicle accelerated without warning causing the vehicle to almost crash through a restaurant wall.the second was october 14, when i pulledinto my garage, i put my foot on the brake to stop and with my foot on the brake, the car unexpectedly accelerated and hit my freezer.i read several articles on the internet where this is not a rare occurrence.

Pulled down the passenger side sun visor in a normal manner, heard a crack and a piece of the plastic clip fell down.totally a poorly made visor and this is a major inconvenience to anyone who has the unfortunate pleasure of sitting there.the visor is currently rigged with a rubber band to keep it from flopping. The dealer has offered to fix it for $100 plus dollars and also suggested going to a junk yard to find a replacement visor!poor, poor service & quality!i want this replaced at no charge despite my the expiration of my warranty as i see by searching nhtsa that many have experienced this issue!thank you!

The driver's side sun visor made a cracking noise and will not come down anymore. It does not stay in the full upright position either.

Moved driver's side visor to block sun and now visor will not stay up and hangs straight down and partially blocks driver's view of highway and oncoming traffic which i fell is a serious safety hazard. Problem has not been corrected.

The passenger side sun visor will not stay up and is a danger because it hangs down in view. Its in the arm where something is broken, needs replaced.

Both sun visors no longer stay in the up ( against the headliner ) position, one is at a 45 degree angle the other hangs downat 90 degree angle. This is a problem with many hyundai's from about 2005 and up, i believe there is a recall on 2006 or 2007, or voluntary action by hyundai, but they refuse to fix 2008 and it is the identical part. There are numerous complaints on many message boards about this problem. Living in arizona with constant sun glare makes driving these vehicles dangerous.

The drivers side sun visor keeps falling down hindering visibility. The visor does not stay up even after trying to force it. Looks like a manufacturing defect where regular use of visor wears out the spring/assembly.

On my 2008 hyundai sonata - first my passenger side and now my driver's side sun visor does not stay in position.no matter how you manipulate the visors (all the way up, or attempting to block the sun) it falls to the same position which impairs the drivers view of the road.i have had to safety pin my visor to the roof of the car, which is unsafe when driving into the sun.this has been a problem in previous model years and hyundai needs to do something to remediate this problem, regardless of the mileage on the car.i've also read that even if you get them fixed, they continue to break down the road.

My 2008 sonata's driver side sun visor will no longer stay up and secure and is always moving suddenly or "floating" into a position that obscures my view often. I purchased the vehicle in dec. 2009 and the incident occurs in june 2010. I have not yet contacted a dealer for replacement or maintenance out of concern it will cost me an arm and a leg to fix.

My sun visor started falling down and would not stay up.i finally had to get some velcro because it kept blocking my vision.

Driver and passenger visor falls down and blocks vision.

Windshield wipers sometimes stop working.

The sunvisorclip to hold it up failed. It seems like this is happening to a lot of owners as there is much info on this in the internet. They already have put a recall in for the 2006 and 2007 models for the same thing but didn't include this year.

Traveling to florida drivers sunvisor would not stay in position impairing vision and almost causing an accidentalso passenger sunvisor wont stay in up position.contacted hyundai dealership gave them vin # they told me there was no recall on this safety issue.did some research there is a technical service bulletin # 09-01-032dated november 9states if you bring your vehicle in for service under warranty they will replace both sunvisors only under warranty also only in certain statesalso manufacture dates6 march 07 to jan 10 08my vehiclefalls between those manufacture dates but is over on the mileage also many postings online with same problems!im requesting a mandatory recall due to hyundai has knowledge of this safety problem and is not voluntarily fixing all affected vehicles , i request that a mandatory recall is issued for the safety of the general public.

Normal use has caused the driver's side sun visor on my 2008 hyundai sonata to not hold its position.it will not remain in place whether it is placed in the upright or down position.further, while operating the vehicle, the sun visor will drop suddenly and obstruct the driver's view.it has also hit me in the head while operating the vehicle.

Drivers sun visor will not stay up and just dangles at eye level.very dangerous as your vision is blocked by the visor.

Passenger-side visor made a cracking noise when it was pulled down, now it will not stay up all the way; it just hangs halfway down.

Driver's side sun visor flops down in front of the driver's eyes.

My driver's side visor has also had problems for several years -- it got stuck and very hard to move and when i tried moving it to the down position one time it "clicked" and since then it constantly falls -- usually when i hit a bump -- then it is directly at my forehead.if i were to ever get in an accident i believe the visor would fall to this position (due to the bump) and cause serious injury to my head or possible death.i've been told it would be $155 to fix this.the passenger side visor is also not working properly in that the plastic piece has broken and it doesn't fit in the holder well.

Sun visor on both pass and drive side will not stay in the up position causing a hazard as the visor is in the line of sight and will come down unexpectedly.

The sun visors on my 2008 hyundai sonata (68,865 current miles) are each (passenger and driver sides) defective. We have lived with this manufacturing defect on the passenger side for the past year, and now, within the past few months, the visor on the driver side also gave way, hanging limply, obstructing the vision of the driver and creating a serious safety issue that needs resolution.this is a safety defect in the manufacture of these visors (obstruction of vision while driving).

Sun visor will not stay up or in any position reliably.the sun visor drops down constantly with any vibration during normal driving.sun visor droops or drops down at any time obstructing the drivers view of the road.

Visor broke when i tried to put it up and now will not stay up. It just hangs in my line of vision and is causing a serious visibility problem. I checked on line and saw story after story of people having the same problem. It is definately a defective part that is a hazard and i believe there should be a recall.

Problem:visor, windshield, driver.plastic sheath around metal bar, which is part of the visor position control mechanism, broke during normal use.this resulted in visor not staying in position set by driver.visor will drop down unexpectedly and partially obstruct driver's visual field and distract driver's attention.

2008 hyundai sonata: driver's side sun visor falls down, blocks vision, or hits driver in head.manufacturer should issue a recall.

My cars visor (both sides) keep dropping while im driving, can i get this fix by the dealer since my warranty is over?i see on line there was a recall.

My hyundai sonota's driver's side car visor is broken and does not stay in an upright position.this blocks the view while looking forward or creates ablind spot to the left when visor is turned down to be able to see the windshield/road. I've had the car less than a year and it has 36k miles (bought it when it had 16kmiles).

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the sun visor failed and separated from the holder. The air bag warning light also failed and the warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer replaced the sun visor and advised that the passenger side air bag sensor failed, but the passenger seat would need to be replaced because the sensor could not be removed. The air bag failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 92, 5000.

The sun visor on the driver (and passenger) side will no longer stay up.the drivers side constantly falls down while i or my wifeis driving.it hits the driver n the head or face and startles the driver, blocking the field of vision.i turn the visor to the side but it covers the side widow and i have difficulty seeing out the side window.my mother in florida has a sonata and told me that she experiences the same problem.

The passenger sun visor will not stay up, at all. The driver side will suddenly fall and it's very unpleasant to suddenly not be able to see while driving. They are ridiculously expensive to replace ($200.00) and my understanding is that this is quite common with hyundai vehicles.

2008 hyundai sonata sun visor will not hold the desired position.same issue as nhtsa item number - 10028945 for 2007 hyundai sonata.

The passenger side sun visor will not stay up on its own.it dropped into my side view and blocks visibility.looking on-line this seems to be a chronic issue on both driver and passenger sides and could cause a crash.hyundai refuses to replace at their cost as this is a one year wear item.

Driver side sun visor no longer stays in up position, drooping down into field of view.it appears there has already been a recall for this but only for southern and western states.this is a known issue and it is easy to find multiple complaints on line about this issue.clear safety issue that should not be limited to only southern states and low mileage vehicles.

The driver's side visor will not stay in the 'up' position or in the fully extended position (closest to the windshield) on 2008 sonata.it falls , ending up either poking you in the head (if it was resting against the ceiling) or hanging straight down (if it had been fully extended). Thisis a safety hazard!

I have a hyundai sonata 20084 door glsfull size sedan 6 cylindervin:[xxx]the driver side sun visor , when taken out to protect when driving east in the morning or west in the evening to and from work, just hangs, and does not go back up to its socket orgo all the way down against the window. It just hangsblocking the eye view of the road ahead. I had to practically catch the visor against my head or hold it with one hand to complete the trip this is a safety hazard.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I purchased a 2008 hyundai sonata from the hyundai dealership in august of 2009. The car had 27,000 miles. 7 months from the day i purchased the car the passenger side sun visor was stiff, i pulled it down and you could hear the insides crack. The sun visor never went back up, it now hangs and refuses to stay up. Now a few days ago the same thing happened to the drivers side. A year and 12,000 miles after purchase.the visor now blocks my line of sight and causes a safety concern. I did some research and have read this happens extremely often and some people have even gone through multiple sets of visors within a few months.

The sun visor on the driver's side on one of the first 80 degree days of the year gave a few cracking sounds and then went limp.now the sun visor doesn't retract back to the tucked away position.it also doesn't stay up against the window.it stays rather low and slightly obstructs my vision when i am driving.this probably should be replaced under warranty, but i found many instances of this problem on the internet on this site:http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=157121it seems like it is a major design flaw.the nhtsa should pressure hyundai to make a recall for this particular minor yet potentially dangerous design flaw.

2008 hyundai sonata.both the driver and passenger sun visors do not stay in the up position.they dangle right in the line of site of driver.not safe.

Sunvisor will not stay up, obstructing vision.

I own a 2008 hyundai sonata. When i was getting in to my car, the sun visor on the driver side popped and broke about a year ago. Not only does it obstruct my view in the windshield but it also blocks a portion of my rear view mirror. I have had it replaced once before and it broke again about 2 months ago. The part is expensive, difficult to find, and even the dealers have to place a back order on the part.no matter what other options i try to use, they all fail so i am reluctant to try anything else at the risk of it falling, hitting me in the head, and causing me to have an accident.

Driver's side visor, mechanism that holds it up has broken, visor impedes driver's vision.

Passenger side visor started to fall down obstructing vision. Dealership replaced the visor and now the driver side visor is doing the same thing obstructing the vision of the driver while driving causing a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that both sun visors were fractured. As a result, the visors would block the driver's visibility of the roadway when driving. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who verified that the visor assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 27,393. Updated 8/31/12

The driver side visor started falling down by itself when you hit a bump or just for no reasonfalling down hitting me in the head and blocking view unexpectantly. Now it no longer stays upcan no longer use have taped up.

Driver side sunvisor failure on my 2008 hyundai sonata 22908 miles. It began with a week of 'cracking' when i used it until it finally broke today. It won't stay up or down completely and it is affecting my field of vision. It is just flopping in the middle. I have moved it to the side but it is still affecting my field of vision.

2008 hyndai sonata limited.drivers side visor no longer stays up.cracking noise heard when it was moved and it then will only hang down.it obstructs your field of vision and could easily be a safety issue.have researched on the internet and found many other instances of the same thing.

2008 hyundai sonata, w/sunroof, 46k miles.the drivers side sun visor position-control mechanism failed.the visor can't be parked in any position.it hangs straight down blocking the drivers view.the friction mechanism broke with a "cracking" sound.

I have a 2008 hyundai sonata whose driver side sun visor broke. While moving the visor into position a small piece of plastic broke from the visor. Now the visor randomly falls from it's position at the ceiling onto the driver's head. Despite wearing sun glasses there are times the use of the visor is critical - esp when driving into the sun. Also the unexpected movement causes a startle reaction compromising the driver's attention to traffic.

While attempting to use the sun-visor by pulling it down, the visor would not move, then made a popping sound.the visor then sagged, and will not return to the upright position.after research, i see that there have been many other similar complaints, especially in states with hot/humid conditions, such as where i live (in mississippi).the visor will not stay in any position except straight down, and impedes visibility, and becomes a hazard when getting into the vehicle.

2008 hyundai sonataboth the driver's side and passenger side sun visors drop down into the line-of-sight view out the front windshield.there is no possible way to prevent it from blocking the driver's view.once they fail, it is permanent, they will not stay up and out of the way ever again.this is a safety issue which someday will cause an accident resulting in property damage, injury, or possible loss of life.these parts will fail even if replaced because of an inherent design defect.here is a link to numerous other complaints regarding this same issue.http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=157121.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the sun visor failed to close and opened independently, obstructing the contact's visibility while driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,000.

Sun visor will not stay up. Falls down exactly at the height of my forehead so that if i get in a wreck, my forehead will exactly hit the "edge" of the visor and crush my forehead. Since the direction of impact against the visor is exactly in the direction of the width of the visor, major fatality would occur. (think of hitting your head against the "side" of a piece of cardboard - no harm done. Now think of hitting your head against the "edge" or end of the cardboard - major damage to your forehead.

I purchased my 2008 sonata on march 11, 2010 about two months later the driver's side visor came down and will not go back up in its original position.it hangs in my line of vision making it very difficult to see.sometimes i have to hold it up manually and that in itself is very dangerous. I heard this is not covered nor is it a recall through the manufacturer.this is definitely going to cause an accident and i sure hope there are no serious injuries or deaths due to something that could have been and should have been recalled a long timeago seeing how many complaints there are about the same problem.it might seem minuet to the manufacture but to the people who are driving it, it is very dangerous and scary. I am at the point where i dread getting into the car to drive due to this because it hits me in my forehead and sometimes it hurts and it definitely distracts you.please be responsible for the defect and have it recalled and fixed correctly for all of our sakes, let's not wait for a tragedy.

On my 2008 hyundai sonata gls first my passenger side and now my driver's side sun visor does not stay in positions and falls blocking drivers view.see online that this is a problem with these cars.hyundai usa should be required to replace these defective sun visors regardless of mileage.

Driver's side sun visor will not stay in place. It will not stay in the up position or the fully forward position. It hangs in my line of sight and makes driving dangerous.

The sun visor on my 2008 hyundai sonata keeps falling down and blocking my vision while driving.in its "up position" it hangs down to where my head would hit the hard edge in any kind of an accident.

Sun visor on drivers side is hanging down causing visibility problems.

Sun visor will not stay up against the headliner and now obstruct my view.

The sun visors on both passenger and driver side are broken they will not stay up. When i brought it to dealership i was told i would have to pay to replace. No repair was done. Although this is common issue for hyundai owners and partial recalls were done but not for 2008.

While driving on the expressway, the sun visor fell in front of my face, impeding visibility.fortunately, this did not result in a crash, but it could have. Now, the visor will not stay up.this defect is significant enough that there is a campaign for it, but it applies only to certain regions of the country. Visiting online forums, this appears to be a very common problem, even in locations that are not covered by the campaign. This campaign needs to be extended. This is clearly a safety issue but is being treated as a cosmetic issue.

I hit a minor bump in the road, the sun visor suddenly dropped down in front of my face - blocking the view of the road. I pushed it back up into its normal "resting" location.upon hitting another bump in the road it swung down again in front of my face. This is the second sun visor in this vehicle to do this. This one started failing around 10/1/2016, and is still doing so.

Driver side sun visor does not stay up and affects visibility. Also a hazard that may cause injury in an accident as it lies parallel to the ground, sticking out towards driver's forehead.

Sun visor problems - driver's side sun visor fell to a downward position and would not hold any position adjustment, not even all the way up. Made driving unsafe because it impaired visibility. Hyundai replaced it under warranty. About a year later, the same thing happened with the sun visor on the passenger side. With the vehicle out of warranty, i had to purchase the part for nearly $100 and replace it myself. This should definitely be a safety recall, thankfully it didn't happen in dense traffic.

Driver's side sun visor will not stay up.according to my online research, this is a most common problem for this vehicle.it is already the subject of a 2009 technical service bulletin, but is an obvious safety hazard deserving of a recall.

Beginning in october 2011 the driver's side sun visor began to "sag" and not stay in the up position. The condition has progressively gotten worse and now the visor is always in the fully extended down position which impairs visibility.hyundai has issued a technical service bulletin (service campaign t97) that covers replacement of the visor. However, even though this condition started to appear when the vehicle was still under the 5 year/60,000 mile warranty, the local dealer indicates the repair will cost $157 because the current odometer is now over 60,000 miles. This is a safety hazard with 2008 hyundai sonatas as evidenced by the large volume of consumer complaints that appear on various websites. The responsible thing for hyundai to do is replace these failing visors under warranty regardless of mileage because it's a serious issue of highway safety.

2008 hyundai sonata both sun visors won't stay up. While driving they both fall down causing obstruction for driving. This is very dangerous. Hyundai has released a technical bulletin for replacing this to dealers. But they are doing it only under warranty. This is an issue and can cause lot of fatality depending on driving conditions as this will blind the driver.information is found here. Http://www.myhyundaiforums.com/09-01-003.pdf.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the sun visor would not remain in its housing, blocking the contact's view of the roadway. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the sun visor assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,000.

Both the driver and passenger visors lost their grip and fall down automatically and cause sudden impact to the view and could potentially cause a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that whiledriving approximately 35 mph, the driver's side sun visor released downward, blocking the contact's vision of the roadway. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the vehicle was repaired under a service warranty. The failure also recently occurred with the passenger's side sun visor. The vehicle was not repaired for the passenger's side sun visor failure. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The failure mileage was unavailable.

On 6/11/12 as i was driving, the driver side visor dropped suddenly as i was braking, my forehead slammed into the edge of the visor. My glasses protected my eyes, but my forehead is sore and tender. The visor no longer stays in the "up" position and "flops" down at an angle. This is dangerous, my visibility is constantly blocked.the visor wasn't in use, it just broke.i secured the driver's visor with tape. Today, june 12, 2012, i drove my son. He was in the passenger side when the visor on that side broke.it just dropped down and will no longer stay in the up position!it appears the plastic device becomes brittle and breaks, the clip that holds the visor fails, and/or arms weaken. I did some research and i see many others have the same problem. There has been a recall but not for my car.it appears many have written complaints to the nhtsa yet nothing has been done.i was hurt, a less experienced driver could have caused an accident, it is a shock when the visor drops, blocking your view. Hyundai is aware of the problem, it is a cheap, easy fix for them but for owners it's dangerous suddenly we can't see in traffic, in a cross walk, anytime while driving to have your visibility suddenly impaired is dangerous. And as in my case, this problem can cause physical harm.please help fix this problem. Hyundai is a great product, it would be a shame if the right thing wasn't done.

The contact ownsa 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that both the driver and passenger side sun visor failed to remain secure in an upright position which distorted her vision while driving or stationary. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unavailable.

Driver side visor has broken in a matter where it will not stay up. It constantly falls down into field of view. This has already been recalled on the 06-07 models. It needs to be extended to the 08 models also.

Driver's side and passenger side visors now droop into line of vision causing hazardous condition.

The headlights on my car are angled too low while using low-beams and the visibility at night is bad. This has been an issue for the entire time i have had this car and i am now aware that i can file a complaint against it. High-beams seem to function ok.

Passenger side visor has been loose for approximately 6 months. Now it stays down all the time and is in the line of sight of the driver to be able to see out of the passenger side window.

I was moving the sun visor and heard a popping sound and this little piece of plastic fell in my lap.now the sun visor just wants to hang.i can't get it to stay up of stay in one place.i end up holding it up with one hand a good deal of the time.i don't think this is exactly safe.as many others that have this fault, there needs to be a recall on it.

The driver side and passenger side sun visors both dropped to a downward position and will not hold thier place so they block view of road.the driver side dropped while driving which caused momentary inability to view the road. After reading other compliants this doesnt appear to be isolated and hyundai should solicit a recall of these visors as they impair the drivers ability to see the road.this event happened randomly with no warning and i would consider a safety hazard.

Passenger visor dropped down, would not stay in up position. Broken plastic component on visor found to be the cause. Purchased replacement at local hyundai dealership. They did not mention service bulletin now in effect.

Driver side sun visor will not stay up.some piece up inside broke off and now sun visor keeps falling down when driving.very dangerous.

The passenger side visor is broken and will not stay in upright position. The visor causes severe visibility issues because it will not flip up and is instead flipped down. This is a severe defect that needs to be addressed. The dealership refuses to fix it unless i am willing to pay for the replacement. The visor "broke" while not in use.

The driver's side visor broke and now hangs down, significantly obstructing driver's view.
