Dt*: the contact stated there was a problem with the air bag sensor. The air bag warning light illuminated intermittently when the driver or passenger seat was adjusted. This issue was related to the driver and passenger seat air bag only.there were no warning signals prior to the incident. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the connector was repaired. - the contact stated that while drivingthe2001 hyundai sonotawith 85000 failure mileageat 45 mph on a icy road another vehicle made a left turn in front ofthe contact's vehicleandit hit the other vehicle on the passenger'sside front end, but the air bag did not depoly.the passenger of the other vehicle, and the contact sustained minor injuries.the contact's vehicle, sustained major damage.both vehicles were towed away.

Hyundai sonata 2001side impact air bag deployed without cause.i was waiting at a stop light when air bag deployedairbag deployed while at a stop, therefore did not cause an accident.damage to drivers side seat, headache, and left shoulder sore for a couple of days.took car into be inspected by hyundai.they refused to inspect without a deposit. (which will not be refunded)in my opinion, this is a defect within the car, and no matter how many miles the car has, airbags should not deployed, unless the car is in an accident.

Dt*: the contact stated that the air bag light on the dash illuminated upon adjusting the front passenger seat.a nhtsa recall, # 02v105000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the air bag; side/window however, the recall did not remedy the problem.the dealership would not offer a second repair without charge under the recall.

Family vehicle: 2001 hyundai sonata -my wife had called me tues. 15th, jan. 2008 afternoon, that the airbag light was illuminated on the dash. Assuming a malfunction in the airbag safety system, i told her to drive conservative, until we could have the airbag safety system checked out. Approx. 90 minutes later, she's calling me back, quite a bit shook up, explaining that she was loading some items in the trunk and when she slammed the trunk closed, the front passenger, side impact air bag deployed! according to her, quite an explosion and odor.we're thankful that there were no family member sitting in the seat at the time.i have taken digital photos and notified my car insurance company for documentation purposes.i spoke with the local hyundai dealer and i confirmed, through the vin, that this vehicle was brought in for recall/defect air bag warning light service, 7-20-2002.recall id 01v347000 states that ab warning light could illuminate due to motion of side impact ab wiring harness/connector and that this could prevent deployment of side impact ab's.well, in this different case, the ab warning light did come on (and is still on), and slamming of the trunk triggered the side impact ab to deploy!so either this is a new safety issue or the hyundai dealer is negligent and did not address the issue appropriately.nothing yet has been done to correct the failure.hyundai dealer is telling me recall remedy is beyond warranty window and i have to burden the costi feel, from a liability standpoint, hyundai needs to get this right at their cost for their ill repair or possibly new safety issue to vehicle ab safety equipment .thank you

Prior to receiving recall 02v15, consumer was involved in an accident, another vehicle travelling 35 mph struck consumer head on, the side door air bag did not deploy, consumer states at no time since purchase of the vehicle has the srs light illuminated, consumer was injured in the accident.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.the vehicle does not have the latch system at the bottom of the seat to attach the child seat.the seat belt doesnot retract enough to tightly secure the seat in the vehicle.the vehicle was takento a child seat technician, whom concluded that the vehicle was not designed to properly secure an infant child seat. The manufacturer was notified, and he was advised that none of the vehicles from 2001-2009 have the latch system in the back seat to accommodate an infant child seat. The failure mileage was 201,000.

Engine misses and backfires through the intake. The major problem is when the engine is running and it doesn't matter if it is in park, or if you are driving it. I was on my way to work when it malfunctioned. I was sitting at a signal light when the engine accelerator went up to 4200 rpm by itself with no foot on the pedal. I almost got into an accident, i pressed harder on the brake pedal and had to take it out of drive to avoid hitting the car in front of me. The engines rpms change a lot now and will not idle right at all; this car is not safe to drive with these engine problems; and should not be on the highway. I had a pennsylvania certified inspection mechanic look at and drive the car; and he said the car is not safe to drive; and if it would have been due for state inspection that it would have not passed; but failed and would be illegal to drive.

Hyundai sonata 2011 push button start. I am the original owner of the vehicle. Yesterday i went into my car and proceeded to start my car. I had to push the start button three times before actually started up. This happened twice within 2 hours.5 days prior my vehicle had been to the hyundai dealership for the recall on the stop lamp switch. An existing recall (nhtsa campaign number: 13v113000) indicates that forthe 2011 hyundai sonata the stop lamp switch may not function correctly. They ,the dealership, performed the service and replaced the stoplamp switch. As result my car is experiencing intermittent switch point contact with the push-button start feature. This is crazy.

Engine check light comes on intermittently. Dealer has replaced a sensor three times.

I am the owner of a 2001 hyundai sonata gls v6.as i was coasting down the exit ramp of an interstate highway, approach a stop light, my car suddenly began to accelerate uncontrollably.i was able to stop only by applying the brake with considerable force, barely avoiding a collision with cars stopped at the light.i then shifted from drive to neutral.the engine began alternately revving up to beyond 3,000 rpm and back down to idle repeatedly.this stopped after turning the engine off and restarting.it happened twice more at succeeding stop lights.the car was towed to the dealer.they repaired it by replacing the transmission range switch-inhibitor (part no. 42700-39050).according to the dealer, this is a known defect covered by service bulletin tsb 03-40-013.while i managed to avert an accident, this was a very serious failure that could have resulted in injury or death.i feel very strongly that this should be the subject of a mandatory recall.

Consumer states that the car went dead upon arriving home from a visiting trip.and is concerned as to why would a new carwould need a battery, unless it due to electrical problems.*scc

With less than 1300 miles on the vehicle, it began to buck and surge in traffic at 65mph, and the tachometer began swinging wildly from 0 to 2500rpm. After getting off to the side of the road quickly, where it stalled again and again, i called hyundai roadside assistance for a tow to the dealer. They examined and drove the car, and told me it wasn't acting up for them, and suggested i take it home while they ordered an exhaust purge valve per a 2.4l engine problem service bulletin from hyundai. While on the highway toward home, it began bucking and the tachometer was swinging wildly again, so i got off to the side, where it repeatedly stalled, and again i called hyundai roadside assistance for a tow back to the dealer. They rented a car for me, and over the next week replaced the purge valve, but the car also died on them, so they did a more thorough analysis, which showed a failed crankshaft position sensor, which caused ignition spark failure.after replacing that, they called me to come get the car and take it home. This time it failed just as i reached my driveway, again bucking and stalling with the tachometer swinging wildly up and down. For a third time, i called roadside assistance for a tow to the dealer, which promised a search to determine the cause of the failures, involvement of the district manager, and an attempt to obtain a different sensor model in case the batch of available sensors was "bad". Subsequent phone calls to the dealership have not produced any answer as to the cause of the failures, delays in obtaining a suitable replacement part, and so far, a total of 18 inoperable days for my new car. This failure is a serious issue; a person at the dealership told me that "other (hyundai) vehicles with the same engine had the same problem"one of which was there while i was at the dealer waiting for my second rental car. I repeat; this is a serious safety issue; such sudden loss of engine power in traffic can have fatal results!

As i was driving down the road at apprx30 mph. The car would de celerate.i would have to take my foot off the gas and then put back on to get the car to move. Also at the same time the car would bang into gear from park and into reverse. I was told it needed a new transmission.the car was purchased new out of the showroom with 10 miles on it and 6 months later a new transmission.( well we were told at the time it was brand new,i have since learned that it was a rebuilt)shame on the dealer for lying to customers.the car did ok till about 3 months ago. The car will decelerate and i have to do what i stated above.then cant get out of park and the traction control light comes on. This has happened numerous times. A new brake switch was put in and the car was fine for 7 full days and on the 8th day same thing.so back we go to the dealers and they are really rude and not happy to see me at all . ( i don't' want to see them either) i was told same problem and another switch has been put inthis is the third one. The other issue is we are not being notified of recalls. And the dealership is so rude. Will never own another one.

While driving, thr vehicle jerked to a stop.it was discovered thatspeed sensor was defective.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the manufacture will not accept responsibility.the brakes had worn away, one brake pad was missing, there was a loud grinding sound in the rear of the vehicle and the vehicle refused to shift when turning corners.the service dealer found it nessasary to replace the rear oxygen sensor and found that the output speed sensor was faulty. *sc

Engine check light and the air bag light kept illuminating while driving. Dealerreset both systems on six separate occasions ,but problem recurred.

I came to a complete stop after driving only 10mph, my engine cradle dropped down there for smashing through my front axel, and turning in both of my front wheels. Not realizing what happened i continued to drive to a repair shop. Both tires popped. I called a tow truck and paid an outrageous amount to get a tow to a repair shop. I was without a car for 2 weeks while they replied my vehicle which cost me almost $1,300. My insure company would not total out my vehicle because they said it was due to salt corrosion and rust (ware and tear). Did i mention i was on vacation when this happened? $$$. Now my transmission is trouble shooting somehow (151,000 miles). It's having trouble switching gears and it hits pretty hard when it finally does. I have to turn the car off and turn it back on, sometimes this helps sometimes it does. My rpm shot up to 4 or 5 which burns gas like crazy. The rust on the rear wheel wells and bottom is unfixible. Steering wheel shakes really bad at speeds 60+.my rear struts are rusted and need replaced.

The consumer was going about 25 mph and the check engine light came on and vehicle just died.the vehicle jerked to a stop, then later drove normally.later, the check engine light went off, and it began to drive normally.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, who was not able to duplicate the problem.however, the service manager said there was no problem, but the consumer $135.00 for changing the transmission fluid.after getting the vehicle back on 8/24/04, the vehicle suddenly made a loud grinding metal sound, the dealership claimed it was the trans axle.the consumer stated that they were guessing just to get her out of the dealership.*sc

I bought this car brand new. Since its 80,000 miles mark the dealership has been having trouble fixing the camshaft position sensor.this defect causes my car to stall in ongoing traffic and caused it to come to a roll and stop.my car has been in the dealership for 2 whole months where it has been test driven and now has 100,000 miles on it.the air bag light stays on even after it has been turned off.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.the contact stated that the cam position position sensor failed.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that they did not have the part to repair the failure.the contact would have to purchase the entire engine harness.the failure and current mileages were 87,000. Updated 11-25-08 updated 11/26/08.

The vehicle stalled, which caused the vehicle to abruptly pull.there was a vibration when the vehicle was stopped at high speeds(due to warped rotors), a tap noise was coming from the timing belt, and the vehicle would die at the speed of 60 mph.the timing belt, the broken counter balance, and the missing timing belt teeth were replaced.*scc

The vehicle stalled without warning while driving.*nlm

The main pulley came disconnected and fell off onto the street with no waring whatsoever.luckily i was preparing to turn left and was stopped in the left turn lane. There was a bad thunk and shake and the car shut down. Had i been moving, it could have been a very different story, especially at highway speed.it is a brand new car, i just had the oil changed.everything was fine, i thought. I was told that this was a serious problem that should be reported to you.

Dt*:the contact stated without warning the vehicle stalled, on five occasions.this happened while driving at no particular speed.the vehicle had to be pulled over and towed to the dealership.the final time, the dealership determined there was a rotor in the crankshaft sensor that was dented.the crankshaft sensor was replaced.also, a puddle was noticed under the vehicle.the dealership determined there was a rupture in the power steering line and the line was replaced.

Engine check light comes on intermittently. Dealer has replaced a sensor three times.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning.the crankshaft sensor failed and was repaired at the contact's expense.the failure recurred two additional times due to the crankshaft and was repaired under warranty.the dealer stated that they would only pay for the part, not the labor.the vehicle has been at the dealer for approximately one week, but has not been repaired.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was unknown.

When drivingvehicle would have a coking sound like it wanted to cut off.with no prior warning vehicle cuts off in traffic when slowing down. Also, after cutting off, vehicle will start back up.

Engine failed at 1633 miles going 65 mph on major highway.according to hyndai service there is a problem with engine sleeves in early production engines. Sleeves come loose causing pistons to smash spark plugs. New engine installed, but did not run properly. Hyundai service ordering second new engine.problem diagnosed quickly due to another 2001 santa fe with 3900 miles in shop with same problem. Peoples hyundai in folsom, ca were very helpful.

While driving at any speed during normal operationvehicle fails to start, problem is intermittent.dealer has examinedvehicle numerous times, and failed to remedyproblem. Engine light illuminated and then vehicle began havinb problems with no power, stalling, and making noises, dealer replaced the purge control valve, however problem till continues.brakes feel low to the floor.center ac vents and right passenger vent broke, dealer replaced.dealer adjusted drive belts due to being noisy.

I bought this car new. Less than 4000 miles ago, i was at the dealership to correct a "check engine light" condition, which was fixed under warranty. I was told that at the mileage the car was at i needed routine service on the transmission under terms of the warranty. This was done. I was also told that my serpentine belt and spark plugs were due to be replaced. I was not reminded that my timing belt had to be inspected before 60000 miles. While driving at 65 mph, the engine stopped running. It was towed to the dealership. I was told that the timing belt had failed causing catastrophic damage to the engine and that since i now had 60255 miles on the car, and had not had the timing belt replaced, the 100000 mile warranty was void and they would not cover any damage. I was informed that the damage to the motor was more than $5000 and hyundai was not responsible for any of that cost. Hyundai consumer affairs, after one week, still has not answered my phone calls.

My 2001 hyundai sonata was bought new.it has given me nothing but problems from the time i drove it off the lot and as soon as i hit the 60,000 mile mark (the bumper-to-bumper warranty ended at this point), the car constantly has something wrong with it.i have spent thousands of dollars in repairs.the airbags were fixed by the dealer because there was a problem.the brakes had a loud squeak and dealer replaced (under warranty at that time).the side front window motors have been fixed twice and now the passenger side window motor is broken and i had to put tape on it so that it will stay up.the timing belt went out after the warranty.some kind of coil broke and needed replacement.the engine light is always turning on.i stopped taking it to the dealer after the car broke down, had it towed, dealer in laurel, md claimed to have fixed it, charged me $768, picked up car, same problem, engine light still on and took it back to dealer.dealer said there was yet another problem.they said they fixed it and they charged me over $500.still the same problem.i took the car to a mechanic and was charged $45 for the repair.there have been several other problems that i have had to pay for repairs.i just spent $435 on another repair.now, after each repair, i just wait for the engine light to turn on again for the next expensive repair and yet i'm still making car payments.absolute worst car i have ever had.

I bought my 2001 hyundai sonata less than 2 years ago.since that time i have had to replace both window motors, front and rear brakes, timing belt and all tires.i would have thought that a brand new car would be trouble-free (that's why i chose hyundai, because of the great warranty) however, it appears that is not the case.my car recently broke down on my way home from work, had to be towed and was in for repair for a week (timing belt), which was a huge inconvenience and expense for me.i am now looking for a suitable trade-in for my hyundai and would not recommend one to friends and family members.

Lower oxygen sensormalfunctioned, causing the "check engine" light to stay on.i have been returning to the suntrup dealership in missouri every since i purchased the car for the same exact problem.and the problem is always the oxygen sensors.i have a 2001 hyundai sonata and i have been having the same problems over and over.i had an extended warranty that i purchased with the car for $1,300.00 and i find out on my last visit to the dealership that the warranty company filed bankruptcy.so now i have no warranty on my car and i have lost money for no reason.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.the contact stated that the underbody of the vehicle was rusted and caused fifty percent of the brake line was rusted. The dealer diagnosed that as a result of the under body rust, both the brake lines and the fuel lines were corroded. The dealer was in the process of repairing the under body, brake and fuel lines.the manufacturer assisted with the repair of the under body only and denied assistance with repairing the brakes and fuel lines.the failure and the current mileage was 162,000.

I smelled gas inside the car after parking. Could see no visible leaks at first.on june 12 could see fluid dripping from midway under car, made service appointment with dealership to repair vehicle. They diagnosed problem as a rusted fuel line under the drivers seat. Service department estimated cost at $2,100.00 dollars for replacing fuel line and front and rear brakes. Seemed reluctant to do repair of fuel line, mentioning how the brake lines are also located next to the fuel lines, length of time ordering parts and how complicated the repair is along with the rust in that location. Looking for repair shop to do the repair to avoid a fire.

The consume smelled gas.after taking the vehicle in for service it was discovered the fuel regulator was leaking fuel into the engine.

Defective sensor for the fuel pump causing vehicle to stop dead. Other years and models were recalled.

While driving the cardragged, and when gettingoff the gas it sloweddown really hard and startedjerking y badly. Took it to a shop, and the computer read that airwas getting in the gas, or something like that. They said it could be a number of things, but it was a manufacturingproblem. Finally, i took the car to get fixed, and the mechanic won't fix it because there wasnothing wrong with it. What do i do.

Bad fuel vapor smell in cabin, no check eng light on. Checked eng light at auto zone anyway, code said vapor valve going to canister/dump after warm up. Hyundai by phone said canister needed replaced($400+). I live on disability ssi, too expensive. Took to small garage, after lifting, bottom of gas tank was wet with gas(by the exhaust). One guy went to access point for fuel tank for replacing fuel pump. A 6 inch rubber hose connecting the line out of the fuel tank connecting to metal rail fuel line bent at over 90 degrees, had a hole at the weakestpoint, in the inside bend. I am not the first owner, but [xxx], could only drive it after midnight in hot summer. Code explained car after warm up opens this valve to dump vapor build up in canister. Sounds right, code and everything, after i finally had them check for codes without check engine light not coming on. Such a cheap cost of a rubber hose could have easily been a braded flexible metal connection. [xxx], i'm lucky. I gave hyundai dealership repair guy over the phone the engine code.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The hood of the vehicle came unlatched and flew up while the car was being driven, bent the hood and smashed the windshield. The hood had not been opened in several weeks, the last time being when the car was serviced.

I was driving on hwy 60, towards lexington va. This is a narrow four lane, divided by a grassy median, there are very few places to pull over. As i was driving uphill, at about 55 mph, my hood flew up and smashed against the windshield, and wrapped around the roof of the car. I was passing a log truck when this happened, and there wasn't anywhere to pull over, so i drove looking through the curve under the hood, and used all of my mirrors until i could get to a safe place to pull over. My 13 yr. Old son was in the passenger side, and we were both completely in shock. The damage to my car, approximately $4000.00. The other complaint i have is i had to wait 8 weeks for hyundai to get a hood for my cars, make, model and year. They said, the hoods were on back order and they didn't know when thy would be able to get my hood. I had to pay for the damage with my insurance, i think hyundai should pay for all of the expenses, that everyone incurred from this defect. Not just the rise in insurance premiums, but also, the rental cars.

The hood flow up while driving down the street going 55 mile per hour and the safty latch broke and damage $2100 to the car.

While driving on route 202 in raritan nj, without warninghood blew up into the windshield shattering the windshield and damaging the hood.

The hood of the vehicle came unlatched and flew up while the car was being driven, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.the hood had not been opened in several weeks, the last time being when the car was inspected.

The transmission failed.

Airbag red light comes on when starting the engine.restraining strap in rear-left seat does not engage.

When i accelerate from a stand still,( stop sign, stop light, etc. ) the car frequently hesitates before it starts moving, which makes it dangerous not knowing if you are going get across a street before traffic gets to you. I have had the car in many times to the dealer, but they have failed to find the problem. But they have done many expensive repairs that had no effect on the hesitation. I see from other bulletins that i am not the only one having this problem.

Failure of transmission to shift, or drop out of gear at highway speeds.told it is the input speed sensor.common failure on this vehicle.

On april 28, 2001 i and three other passengers were riding in the vehicle.i was traveling down a long grade at 35 to 40 miles per hour.toward the bottom of the grade the road curves to the right and at the bottom there is a traffic signal.when i came around the curve i saw that the light was green and proceeded to accelerate in order to get up the approaching upgrade.when i attempted to accelerate the engine revved very high but the vehicle continued to slow down. Tansmission had shifted into neutral although the shifter still indicated that i was in drive.the vehicle would not automatically shift out of neutral.i had to manually shift into low gear.two days later i took the vehicle to the dealer and, after three days, i was told that they could find nothing wrong and that they would make no repairs.on friday may 4, 2001 i was contacted by the hyundai regional service representative who tried to convince me that there is nothing the matter with my vehicle.he told me that it was the vehicles "adaptive learning" feature that caused the shift and that what i experienced was perfectly normal.i find it very hard to believe that the new car i own was designed to shift and stay in neutral when it is in a situation where acceleration is necessary.both the dealer and the manufactuer continue to insist that there is nothing the matter with the vehicle and refuse to make any repairs.also, one week before the incident , my wife and i were on the same roadand the vehicle did nearly the same thing.the only difference was that after about a second or two of stepping on the gas pedal transmission shifted itself back from neutral into drive.please help.

Re-2001 hyundai sonatai was on way to work going 93 north towards boston 1 exit away from work when i went over 3 small bumps on highway nothing out of the ordinary, yet my tires felt as if they were not stable i was only going 60 slowed down to 30 took off ramp 1 block away from work, then completely stopped at a cross street intersection to take a right. I proceeded then i flew forward in my car. My car stopped short for a second ithought i hit my shifter in neutral orreverse, that was not the case, i was in drive. Put car in park it made a searing ungodly sound i didn'tknow what was happening. I got out of my car just astwo men came running over to help me.we noticed the tire completely against inside wheel frame. I just had a rim replaced not even 1 month ago and new brakes and tires yet i wasn't sure what this tire like that meant. I couldn't understand why i seem to be having to replace so many things, one right after another, however i was told after towing car to firestone that my whole car undercarriage frame subframe is completely rotted and that the axle is snapped and may even have damaged transmission i called hyundai to put a complaint in.they told me i have a recall on my car when they looked up my car by the vin yet i was never notified. They seemed quite caring and empathic to my situation, yet the last question they asked me, blew me away. Christine the operator from hyundai asked me one more question ms.__ what do you plan to get out of this? are you kidding me? what a question, i asked if i should get a lawyer, and was it an voluntary or involuntary recall she said that hyundai put this recall into effects after the company realized and found that they may have a defective corrosive situation, yet on the web they were obviously investigated first then did something about it. She said recalls started in july of 09and are still being issued to date, she said she'd mail me a packet to fill out and send back -oh joy!! cant wait.

Ongoing problem where my car jerks and the rpm's go up to 4-5 before my car will even move in which case i am throw forward due to the gears not shifting. This needs to be recalled!

I got my car in 2002 it is a 2001 sonota.when you push the gas to pull out in front of traffic this car doesn't want to go!i have almost been in several car accidents when i tell the dealership about the problem they tell me nothing is wrong!also if you look at the complaints you will see that the air bag light keeps coming on that is a safety problem in its self.

We purchased a 2001 sonata. We had it three weeks and the coolant system had to be replaced. Now,just after the warranty ran out(50000.) we have to replace the sensors in the transmission. This is crazy. This car gives us more trouble than our other cars that have double the miles. I am sure that we are not the only people who have had such problems. I believe that is why you raised the mileage allowance on the newer ones. I will never buy one of these cars again!

While backing out of my driveway brake peddle went to the floor and leaked out fluid through a steel rusted brake line on driver side , i had the steel line replaced,a month later same incident thank godit happened again only the opposite side the brake line leaked. If this happened in an emergency stop i may not have been able to share this.

My brakes are squeaking loudly and grinding terribly however every time i go to the dealear for this they can never seem to duplicate the problem.i keep taking in to cover myself for the simple fact that if my front end falls to the ground as the vehicle sounds as if though it will i can have documents from the dealer that never seem to duplicate the problem. What other steps can i take in getting this resolved the dealer has told me that's normal for a hyundai i love my car other than that i'm paying for a 2001 it should not sound as if i'm driving a hooptie everytime i pull up to a stop sign.

My confirmation # is 10064158 my phone # did not come out on the form it is 1- 413- 9673813and there was property damage.

Complete failure of brake system due to rust and corrosion of brake lines. The 2001 hyundai sonata lines came apart due to rust. Reported incident to hyundai consumer affairs and was told it would be covered under recall notice dated:4-14-09 id# 09v124000action# ea08016, which included quality issues with cars suspension due to rust and corrosion. Was notified by dealer today that hyundai was not covering the defective brake lines, because it was not specifically called out in the recall.fortunately, my son and i were in a parking lot when the brake failure occurred, pedal went all the way to the floor and fluid leaked out of the brake line, which had rusted through.i'm not sure of the scope of this defective, but obviously had we been on the freeway this could have been a life or death experience. Thankfully god was watching over us.please investigate similar brake failures on this vehicle.also if there is anything that can be done to help us resolve this matter we hyundai it would be greatly appreciated.

'm asking for a letter stating that the abs braking system will be activated no matter if one, two, three,or all four wheels gothrough a small puddle. It does not say it in the manual. The reason i'm asking is my son was involved in a car accident ,which the right front and right rear tires passed through a small puddle. The abs braking system was then activated. The road was dry except for this small puddle.my son traveling behind another car , when he noticed that the driver in front of him was taking a right. My son then proceeded to apply pressure to the brakesbut he could not stop. A small puddle from meltingsnowand ice had accummilatedthe night before, caused me to slide. Fearing that he might hitthe car in front of him , he tried to go over the curb. The driver in front of him was making a right hand turn. My son slid into the right side of the car anyway. The puddle caused him to keep moving and the abs braking system created pressure on the brakes so he could not press them downall the way. The next day i went through a small puddle on purpose to see if it would happento me and it did.it causes you not to have full control. You don"t expect it when the rest of the road is dry. I'm looking for a letter stating that the abs braking system will be activatedno matter if one, two, three ,or four wheels pass through a puddle. It is not mentioned in the manual thank you.

In three of the four windows in my car, the windows when put down have been stuck and not able to to remain in the up status.the first window (drivers side door) happened two years ago and was fixed under the warranty, however, the passenger side front and back windows have happened with in 3 months of each other.the belt in the window is wrapping around the rotor and causing problems.

When the brakes were applied the vehicle vibrated, the dealer replaced the rotors which were warped.

The rotrs on the vehicle warped prematurely.the dealer has been contacted.*mr *nlm

I purchased my 2001 hyundai sonata gls v6 in 2002 and have had nothing but problems from it, but this is the worst so far. My car started jerking terribly when i hit any kind of bump or uneven pavement and my steering wheel was off center when driving straight. I had someone look underneath the car and noticed the frame was rotting, therefore i was driving it to my mechanic and as i pushed the brake to stop, the right/front wheel separated from the frame/axle. There was corrosion on the frame around the axle. I called hyundai and they gave me a claim # and said someone would contact me within 3-5 business days, so we will see.

I was driving and within 15 minutes my hyundai ripped through 2 tires.luckily i figured something was up and was taking back roads when the second time it happenedparts of the rubber from the tires were in the road.i had to have it towed and apparently the cradle sub frame was completely rusted apart causing the alignment and tire issues.i am in the salt belt states so it should be covered under the rust/corrosion recall 089.i understand it has many miles but it was running really well until this and should be covered in the recall.

I was driving down my street when the drivers cv axle popped out of the transmission. I got the vehicle towed home and removed the wheel to find that the subframe was corroded completely into. I know there are recalls pertaining to this exact issue on this type of car

Was informed approximately 2006-2007 by good samaritan, bill osterhage, that his daughter's 2002 hyundai front tire rod axial broke d/t major corrosive issues with frame defects. He contacted an attorney for class action law suit to be started d/t safety issues to prevent death to others & repair frame to rob carey at rob.carey @att.net & [email protected] 2006- until 2009 during routine oil changes, i asked kerry hyundai in alexandria, ky to check my frame d/t visual rust & about recall. Hyundai finally admitted after multiple complaints during routine maintenance in a letter to me on 6/24/09 that there was a recall on 4/16/09andmy frame to be replaced. 8/15/16 i lost control of my 2001 sonata, hyundai while driving on expressway during rush hour d/t major corrosive issues causing right rear tire rod to break. I did two 360 degree turns from fast lane to slow lane. Grace of god i didn't crash or cause any accidents. Filled report with hyundai dealer & corporation 8/16/16. Corporation stated that there is corrosive settlement for front frame and another for the rear frame. Has been two weeks and hyundai corporation has not contacted me back, but stated compliant alone with pictures taken by dealer has been sent to "regional agent". Manager of service department from dealership at kerry hyundai alexandria, ky, jeff, stated "the matter is out of his hands and representative from hyundai corporation is to handle matter. Also, jeff, manager of service department at kerry hyundai, stated "damage to frame cost more than what care is worth". Mechanic at kerry hyundai stated that "hyundai has major issue with frames, this is the third one this month, of august, that has come in d/t corrosive defects, and one of the cars was only three years old". Please do something before someone is killed. Life is a precious gift and no monetary amount can replacement it.

Tuesday, august 5, 2008, i brought in my 2001 gls v6 hyundai sonata to balise hyundai of cape cod in hyannis, ma. My car had approximately 166,500 miles on it at this time. I was looking to get a throttle position sensor replaced. During their diagnostics, with the car on a lift, they noticed two things. One, a power steering leak was occurring most likely because of a corroded power steering line near the passenger side of the subframe. Two, in the immediate area of the suspected hose failure, the subframe had rusted through on two sides of the piece. The main hole in the subframe is fist-size or larger and the second is not good.i was informed that the subframe issue was a major safety hazard and warned me of what could happened should it fail. They also told me about the difficulties that replacing it could bring. They told that they were highly uncomfortable with me driving off the lot with the car with the subframe in that condition because it could go at any time.when they gave me an estimate for repairs to my car, they informed me that they might do the service on the subframe for free. They had to get approval from a regional rep or such person. However, as of today, sunday, august 10, i have not heard back from the dealer.today, i decided to do some research into replacing the subframe and finding the part. When i did a yahoo! search for "sonata subframe", i came across the nhtsa investigation into this problem. I, thankfully, have not had a failure or accident because of this condition, yet.

I bought this used 2001 sonota from a local guy who rebuilds cars for resale.i understood that it came with a salvaged title.however,i was assured that the vehicle was safe to operate.six weeks, 4,000 mi. Later i hit a pot whole on my street and damaged the steering.i took it to a local repair shop and discovered the r-side sub-frame was broken due to corrosion. Who is responsible for allowing a vehicle that has a possible r-side sub-frame recalled, to never get fixed and placed back on the road?fortunately, it broke at a low speed in front of my house.

My cars front subframe broke due to corrosion and axle fell apart while driving.

Hyundai wont pay for the tires that had to be replaces many times or a car to drive while mine was in the shop its their fault their lack of quality build of the car. The dealer is fixing the frame due to the recall no charge to me but i will have to pay for new tires and a car to drive till mine is fixed and to realine after i just feel that's unfair.. It all should be included on the recall.. I wont own one again.

She said recalls started in july of 09and are still being issued to date, she said she'd mail me a packet to fill out and send back -oh joy!! cant wait.

Passenger side subframe rusted through and created a severe safety problem.my mechanics noticed it doing some work on my car.this must be addressed and something done before people are killed when these frames break. I was lucky it was discovered, because there is no warning lights for this... And can not be seen except if car is on a lift.

Went to have my oil changed on my 2001 hyundai sonata and attendant told me my frame was badly rotting. He asked how long i was going to keep car because it could become a big problem.

My 2001 sonata engine cradle is seriously rusted out on passenger side aft, a hole about the size of a softball. It's a safety issueand a recall should have be issued.i found multiple complaint online for the same auto.

While driving my 2001 hyundai sonata, my right front lower control arm broke off, separating my wheel / it collapsed. The tow truck driver told me this and showed me how severe the sub frame was corroded. It broke off, he never saw anything like it. Please help. Is this a recall that i didn't get?

The subframe has rusted out on the right side of vehicle causing it to no longer be drivable until the subframe is replaced. I was pulling into my driveway when the vehicle became inoperable because it turns out subframe had rusted through.

My cars front subframe broke due to corrosion and axle fell apart while driving.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata. While making a right turn, there was an abnormal noise coming from the front passenger side tire. It was discovered that the control arm had fractured from the frame, which was crumbling due to rust and corrosion. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and then towed to the contact's residence and to the dealer (hyundai of chantilly, 14848 stonecroft center ct, chantilly, va 20151, (703) 480-9000). The contact was not sure if the vehicle was included or excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 09v124000 (suspension). The manufacturer was to provide a follow-up response to determine their solution for the dealer's repair. The vehicle was unable to be driven due to the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 133,000.

Control arm completely separated/ broke from the subframe. Called hyundai as mechanic said this should have been included under a recall that came out several years ago for "because of a potential corrosion risk involving the front sub-frame...corrosion may progress and the forward mounting of the lower control arm may detach from the sub-frame. If that happens, the vehicle may lose driver power to the wheels. The front wheel may make contact with the fender or wheel well." "separation of the forward mounting of the lower control arm may increase the risk of a crash" this is exactly what happened to my 17 year old daughter yesterday and fortunately she did not crash as she was not in a populated area, but it could have been much worse. Why is this particular 2001 hyundai sonata not covered under this recall. It needs to be covered and covered asap. Please assist. Vehicle is currently at columbia family auto care in jessup md 301-362-0777

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that the subframe was corroded. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 117,655.

The hood of the vehicle came unlatched and flew up while the car was being driven, bent the hood and smashed the windshield. The hood had not been opened in several weeks, the last time being when the car was serviced.

Excessive dust entered the trunk through a vent and seeped through thepassenger cabin.....

While rounding a gradual curve at approximately 50mph suddenly lost steering control and went off road. Examination of vehicle subsequent to the accident revealed loss of control caused by severely rusted right (passenger side) front subframe and approximately 8 inch hole and bending/cracking of such due to the rust, this on a vehicle which is otherwise pristine (there is absolutely no rust elsewhere on the vehicle). I urge nhtsa to require hyundai to address what i have now learned is a very common problem with the model in question, especially before any other lives are put in jeopardy or lost due to what is clearly and obviously a gross manufacturing and/or design defect. Note that i consider the situation to constitute no less than an emergency and that until certain model years of the hyundai sonata are updated with a revised/new subframe they should not be driven and indeed are not safe to be driven. At present my vehicle is no longer road worthy due to the rusted subframe and as it is 4 months out of warranty (warranty pertaining to rust through) i foresee that i will have to bear the expense of the repair (subframe replacement) myself.

I was driving down the street and the frame snapped on the front right hand side luckily there was not an accident. This should be a recall on the vehicle its an 01 with 68,000 miles.

2001 hyundai sonata frame rusted at front swing arm, both sides. 109k miles.

While changing the oil a large hole in the right side of the frame where the front suspension connect to was found.it is all rusted through.i was told not to drive the car by the mechanic.i have attempted to get a new part from the junk yard and the three replacements they found were rusted in the same place.i called the hyundai dealer and they said it was around $1500.00 to fix the problem.i called their customer care to find out if there was a recall and they said not at this time.

Vehicle steering wheel started to unalign counter clockwise in the last week, then a noise from the front right wheel, then my wife pulled into the garage when i noticed the front passenger wheel on a tilt. I looked under the car and there is a huge 4" hole of rust right through the frame.

I was driving and the tire fell off the front frame from being rusted.

I have a 2001 hyundai sonata i purchased in 2005 used from a toyota dealership, and didn't have a warranty on the car. I took it in to my local garage in january 2009 so they could check out a noise my car is making. They said that when they put it up on the lift, they saw that my cradle is severely rusted and that my car will not pass inspection in june and replacing it would be about the cost of my car. I have researched online and found that many others are having the same problem. Hyundai should have made a recall so i don't have to purchase a new car right now. Thank you.

I have a 2001 hyundai sonata.i just bought new tires for my car and wanted them to do an alignment as i thought it really needed one.come to find out from the mechanic, my car is unsafe to drive because my engine cradle (sub frame) is completely rusted in half which was throwing off my alignment.i see that there have been many complaints about this exact same thing, why has this safety issue not been recalled?

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.the contact took her vehicle to a local service station and was advised by a technician that the front subframe had excessive corrosion.she called the manufacturer and filed a complaint.the contact is currently waiting for a response.the failure and current mileages were 89,300.

I hit a pothole and the right front began to pull, upon taking the car to a repair shop the found that the front subframe was rotted through on there right side and almost as bad on the left side.

2001 hyundai sonata v6, with under 120k miles. Tires replaced for wear and alignment performed on week of 12/08/2008. Mechanic pointed out alignment a moot point due to right sub frame, akak-frame,aka engine frame, aka right wheel suspension mount was rusted through to point of being able to enter rust cavity with all fingers. This resulting to crackedsubframe at wheel well side were suspension is mounted.some complainants report leaking power steering line from overextended distance from frame stretch . This also is a problem in sante fe. I imagine the same k frame being used a cost saving measure. I'm now waiting for hyundai america to respond to my case #3460531. Don't you believe anyone who discounts this as being out of warranty. This is not cosmetic body rust through , but a major safety issue and nhtsa will be issuing a recall once the body bag counts begin being attributed to this national problem. Some reps are saying it's asalt belt sales problem but this consists of 60% of their sales and they are going to have to make good for poorly engineered steel construction. It appears the salt water entered front of frame but never could exit due to no exit holes towards rear of frame. Oxygen exposuretook care of the rest.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.the contact heard an abnormal noise near the rear of the vehicle.the dealer stated that the subframe had excessive corrosion and needed to be replaced at the cost of $800.her state was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 09v124000 (suspension).the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure and current mileages were 141,000.updated 05/04/09 updated 05/04/09.

On 4/10/12 went to get car inspected and it failed was told rear sub frame rotten. Called and talked to hyundai motor americato see if they could help. We had the sub frame in front replaced by lia hyundai in jan 2010 when there was a recall. I don't get why the rear was not recall if that rusted out too. Now i'm looking at $700-$800 to have it fix. I feel that if this is the problem with these cars thisshould of been replaced when i did the front. I have talked to these peopleabout this and no one seems to call you back with answer when they say they will check into it and will call me back. I called them for 3 days now and it's the same answer. This car is running great except for the subframe. Please if you can help me with this problem. I would like them to at least pay somethingto help me with this. I work three jobs and can't afford to lose them right now with no car.

The car was sitting in the parking lot and when we went out to start the engine it turned over but it wouldn't move so we towed it to a local goodyear repair garage where they report that the undercarriage has rusted through and the motor dropped and bent the axle.they cannot find a used undercarriage that isn't rusted through.we have reported this to hyundai consumer affairs and they have given us a case number (3122110) but report that this car has not been recalled.

2001 hyundai sonata bought less than 4 years ago has severe rotting in the subframe.mechanic says it is extremely dangerous and considers it a deathtrap.i've had one problem after another since i bought this car and i just don't understand why this car hasn't been recalled as of yet.so many people have experienced many of the same problems with this model it is appalling.i am completely disgusted in the fact that this degree of rot does not happen in 3 years and most definitely was sold to me this way.i was not told by the dealer of any rot in the subframe when i purchased this vehicle, how is that legal???something needs to be done about the all to common problems with this car or do people have to lose their lives in an accident before this is taken seriously?

I was driving down the road at 30mph and the car started swerving left and right like 'crazy'. I pulled over and noticed the drivers side front wheel was bent even though wheels were straight. I looked underneath thecar and there was crack all the way through the subframe of the car where the lower torque arm attaches to the wheel. The torque arm looked fine but where it attached was rusted so much it broke. I touched this area and noticed a fist sized hole of metal had rusted away. Hyundai apparently used very cheap metal when building their product.i checked the other side and noticed the same problem. The other front wheel side is about ready to break too and fall off the car. I managed to make it home trying my best to stay in one lane which was very hard and didn't always do that. I will take some pictureslater.

Tuesday, august 5, 2008, i brought in my 2001 gls v6 hyundai sonata to balise hyundai of cape cod in hyannis, ma. My car had approximately 166,500 miles on it at this time.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.the contact stated that the vehicle was driving poorly and she took it to a mechanic.after inspecting the vehicle, the mechanic stated that either the undercarriage or the frame was rusted.the dealer repaired the vehicle for free.the failure mileage was 117,000.

Drove over a crack in the road, felt and heard snapping, took to mechanic, was told right subframe rusted out so bad that it snapped.

While making a right hand turn the drivers side lower control arm tore out of sub frame causing vehicle to pull out of control into oncoming traffic lane. Both axles were destroyed. Hyundai will pay for frame replacement but no other costs. The axles , 2 tows. 1 to my home the 2nd to dealership or the car rental that they arranged and originally said they pay for. My case manager will not take my callsnor will anybody explain why they wont pay for the damages there own dealer said was caused by defective frame.

I own a 2001 hyundai sonata. Last night my daughter was driving the car and noticed the steering wheel was pulling very badly to the right. When i got a chance to look at it this afternoon i noticed the front right frame was almost completely rusted through.

I was driving my 2001 hyundai sonata a car i bought new in florida and has always been in florida. My engine carriage rusted through and snapped the control arm on my car and the entire wheel came off sending me into two lanes of oncoming traffic.it was taken to hyundai dealership i am waiting to hear if hyundai will repair the huge damage to my car. Not to mention i was almost killed due to this catastrophic failure. The nhtsa needs to take action on this now. Lives are at risk. It is a catastrophic failure.

In 2007 a routine oil change was being performed on the car and it was noticedthat there was a 1-2 inch rotted hole theright side subframe. Local mechanic said there weren't any recalls, so he welded on a new piece of metal for support. Today (8/13/08) another oil change was being done and it was noticed that there is now a 2-3 inch hole on the left side subframe that wasn't visible a year ago. Mechanic highly recommends replacing the front subframe. Ref pe08029.

I own a 20001 hyundai sonata.i took it to the repair shop for a front end alignmentbecause the car was pulling badly to the right and was informed that the subframe on the right front is severely rusted.it was recommended that i not continue to drive this car because it is extremely dangerous to do so.

While driving my 2001 hyundai sonata, my right front lower control arm broke off, separating my wheel / it collapsed. The tow truck driver told me this and showed me how severe the sub frame was corroded. It broke off, he never saw anything like it. Please help. Is this a recall that i didn't get?

My 2001 hyundai sonata's subframe rustedto the point of where there were 7 in" holes completely through- this caused the lower swing arm to detach from the frame and subsequently the vehicle suspension failed. This occurred while my two children were in the car.both front tires were damaged.dealer did not replace tires, did not pay for towing or alternate transportation- gary rome hyundai, holyoke ma.

Both tie rod ends break. Replaced both. Car then experienced broken left axle and lower control are which was attributed to crack in sub frame. Sub frame replace with axle and control arm. Are there any recall on subframe for 2001 hyundai sonata gls? car has not experience any front end collision in history of ownership of vehicle. Car bought new at dealership.

Driving 2001 sonata car was swaying on road when going on turns was not working with steering in timely manner. Had mechanic look at to see what was wrong. He foundon passengers side of car the lower frame rusted from inside out where the lower control arm attaches and is now only semi attached so the assembly moves around.there is a huge hole in frame. Car is no longer safe to drive as whole assembly will fall off. As you can see car is only 7 years old. This is unacceptable car only has 111000. Miles on it. The car is in my driveway has not been taken apart all parts are original not sure what to do. Can't be driven as is. I noticed other complaints of same nature i don't consider this condition acceptable in a 7 year old car frames should last many more years.

The car was pulling to the right and thought i needed a wheel alignment but after coming back from taking my children to school the car stopped in front of my house and started making a rattling sound when i put it in gear (reverse and drive ) i thought is was axle that may have slipped out of place. The car was taken to mechanic who said i had a lot of rust and a whole in my frame and the rust started to fall off the car frame.i called the consume affairs dept for hyundai and they picked up the car and took it to a hyundai dealership to hopefully get fixed. They wanted to charge me $2,100.00 for the repairs.

Underframe of 2001 hyundai sonata rusted right through.

Noticed an issue in january 2010: took car to a auto-repair shop for repair; new tires and alignment service. On 03/22/2010 while leaving a shopping mall the vehicle lost control and veared a hard left into a cement light pole in the middle of the parking lot. (i was able to apply the brakes in time and turn the vehicle) only damage was to the front driver side bumper and quarter-panel, body damage only. I then tried to drive the vehicle which at that point operated in drivable condition. On my way to the auto-repair (less then 1 mile away) my vehicle completely broke down in the middle of an intersection in another shopping plaza. The car was then towed to the auto-repair shop, which then later called and explained that the frame of the car was cracked and the whieel was detatched. I called the dealership and they took the matter very lightly telling me to just bring the car in (the vehicle was not drivable). I call my towing company and towed the vehicle to the dealership and now awaiting response. I was not offered a loaner, nor did the manager know of any recall, neither did i, something i had to investigate for myself. (luckily i was not on the highway when this happen or i would not be here today.

I have noticed that the engine cradle has rusted on my 2001 hyundai sonata.it only has 85k miles.this seems to be a manufacturing defect to me. I first noticed it when i got new tires, there was a slight pull to my car.i brought it in for alignment and was told it was useless to go through with the alignment due to the engine cradle being rusted out.since then i have put my car out and have had to ride my motorcycle to and from work since i do not have the money for repairs.

Was told by mechanic that my frame is rotting out. Has holes size of golf ball not to mention lines 5-6" of rot. Mechanic informed me that he will no longer work on the car as it is too dangerous for me to drive it and suggests i get a new car.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.while driving the vehicle would drift towards the right.upon furtherinspection he discovered that because the right side of the sub-frame was corroded , it caused the engine to tilt towards the right. I took my car to a mechanic today to have the brake pads replaced and he found a corroded hole in the sub-frame assembly.he mentioned this was recalled by hyundai last year but i was never notified of such a recall and i'm upset as this could have caused a very serious accident.why was i not notified of the recall first of all, and what is hyundai going to do to fix my car?

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.while replacing the tires on the vehicle, the contact noticed that the alignment was not gripping correctly.he examined underneath the vehicle and noticed that the frame on both of the front wheel suspension mounts were rusted.the vehicle has not yet been inspected by a mechanic.through online research, the contact discovered that this was a very common failure with his type of vehicle.he believes that a recall should be issued by the manufacturer.the current and failure mileages were 140,000.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata. The contact statedwhile driving at 5 mph, the front driver's side tire and wheel completely separated from the vehicle. The contact was in a parking lot at the time of the failure and was able to avoid an accident. A tow truck was called and upon arrival, the driver noticed that the entire front end of the vehicle was rusted andcorroded. The vehicle was towed to a local repair facility. The manufacturer advised having the vehicle towed to an authorized dealer for repairs. The current and failure mileages were approximately 120,000.the vin was unavailable.

Took automobile for routine maintenance. Mechanic discovered major rusting on subframe and engine cradle. Rusted through and hasbeen described as extremely dangerous.

2001 hyundai sonata gls - the vehicle sprang a leak underneath of steering fluid. I took it to my local mechanic he put it up on the lift, found a problem with the subframe being so weak and rustedthat we can't drive it. My mechanic called a local hyundai dealer who said the whole problem was covered (incl steering leak caused by bending subframe). I then towed it to where i bought it from and they called to tell me i needed to prebuy over $2000, subframe not covered. Hampton hyundai, new hampshire, 177 lafayette road. I found two other dealerships who say both problems should be covered. I am original and present owner, under 93,000 miles.

2001 hyundai sonata-rust is on the front sub-frame and we were told by a mechanic that it was highly dangerous to drive because the wheels will become detached at any bump along the road. The steering is also jerky and the steering wheel is not straight anymore and the two front tires are pointing inward and wearing very fast on the inner most part of the tires.is there some type of recall or investigation going on for this matter? are there other complaints on the same model of car as mine? is there any compensation that is due to me? we have heard from a friend that there was an investigation going on with this matter (nhtsa number pe08029) please get back to me asap. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.while driving approximately 15 mph, the front passenger side wheel collapsed.the vehicle had to be towed to a mechanic and a baseball size hole in the subframe was discovered, which caused the tie rod to dislodge.the mechanic also discovered two more holes in other areas of the subframe.the current and failure mileages were 65,000.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata. While driving approximately 35 mph, an abnormal noise emitted from the front passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the front axle and the front subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Passenger side subframe rusted through and created a severe safety problem.my mechanics noticed it doing some work on my car.this must be addressed and something done before people are killed when these frames break. I was lucky it was discovered, because there is no warning lights for this... And can not be seen except if car is on a lift.

Front right portion of front subframe is rusted and broken.alignment and steering is way off .was advised not to drive since frame damage is extremely dangerous.

I took my 2001 hyundai sonata for an oil change and my mechanic showed me that there is a fist-sized hole in the front right sub frame under my car. Currently, i do not have the funds to fix my vehicle and it will not pass inspection the next time around. I would like hyundai to pay for this damage because a vehicle that is only 7 years old should not be rusting out!

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata. The contact was traveling 30 mph when the frame buckled and the front wheels began collapsing outward. The contact stated that the vehicle had been drifting from side to side for some time when the vehicle was being driven. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The vin was unavailable. In february i had gone to have my oil changed by my uncle who works at a shop in franklin he had put my car up on the lift and looked it over to ensure there wasn't any major problems in which he concluded there was not. On march 20th 09 i went to pep boys to have 4 new tires put on and an alignment done. On march 24th i was driving my son home and notice the car was making a odd noise and figured i should get it looked at. I went home and about an hour later i went to pull out of the driveway to take my car to my uncles shop when i heard a terrible loud noise so i put the car in park the conclusion was that my axle broke off and my subframe was completely rotted and my engine was almost on the ground.

I inspected under the hood and noticed several large holes rusted through the engine cradle.i have read that there is a recall on this component and noticed that several people have had near fatal accidents because of this issue.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata.while changing the oil in the vehicle, the contact noticed that the sub frame near the engine was corroded.he touched the sub frame and his hand went straight through.the vehicle was taken to a dealer and they stated that he lived in a rust belt and discovered that the control arm was held in place by only one bolt.the vehicle was repaired by taking a sub frame from a salvaged vehicle.the current mileage was 83,959 and failure mileage was 83,949.updated 12/12/2007updated 12/12/07

I took my 2001 hyundai sonata gls in to the dealership for a routine oil change.they called me to the service department to tell me that the cross member on the drivers side was rusted badly and may be cracked.they took pictures and contacted hyundai to see if there were any recalls for this problem, as they had "never" seen it before.hyundai has told them i am on my own for repairing it.ridiculous, there is a recall for cars just across the river in mn for this exact problem.i shudder to think what would have happened had i been on the interstate driving 75 mph and it broke.how about a little responsibility hyundai??i have had this car in for all routine maintenance as required, so it is not negligence on our part.

I was trying to avoid an accident, as i swerved the car fish tailed. The driver side rear tire hit the curb, at which point the tire actually buckled under the car. I had to have the car towed to a shop. When the mechanic looked at the car at first we believed we only needed the rear tire assembly. We then discovered there was extensive damage to the sub frame assembly. He told me the sub frame was rusted and rotted and he believe that was why there was so much damage.then i was told by a friend there was a recall on the 2001 hyundai sonata sub frame. I later found out that it was the front sub frame. When reading the description of what was occurring in the recall of the front sub frame leads me to believe the same maybe occurring to the rear sub frame.

While driving the car the wheel and assembly broke free from the frame of the car which was completely rusted and dropped the car to the ground pushed the wheel assembly wheel well. After researching the make and model their is a recall pertaining to this issue but only applies to the salt belt. My car was originally sold and operated in virginia for 7 years. This issue with the sub frame is the exact same issue as the recall but due to the car not being titled in the salt belt, even though it was driven through the so called salt belt, hyundai is saying it is not covered under the recall. I believe all cars that experience this issue should be covered under the warranty as it is a major safety issue. I was lucky i wasn't going fast as it could have jeopardized my life or anyone else's that was traveling on the road.

My cars front subframe broke due to corrosion and axle fell apart while driving.

Was driving down the road and the wheel jerked hard to the right, pulled over and tire was turned in. Had to drive in reverse 2 miles back to my house. Had local shop fix and they said it is rusted bad underneath and replaced the right front a arm.

My car has a rear rust problem that has left the car undriveable. The support for the wheel has rusted through and the rear wheels are tilting in. I did lose control of the car as it swayed for one side of the road to the other lane and back. My speed was about 45 mph on a two lane road with a spead limit of 45 to 55. When i would hit a bump in the road the car swerved uncontrolably the rust is a serious safety problem that our government is ignoring. I have had the front of the car in for the original recall for the front subframe. Did you know that this recall allows the mechanic to drill holes in the subframe to help the moister escape. Sounds like a temporary fix to a serious problem because the design did not allow for moisture problems. Yet the problem is road salt according to the original law suit. But then why drill holes if the moisture is coming from the outside. The holes are not drilledfor any reason except to allow moisture to escape from a poorly designed sub frame assembly. Hyundai refuses to do anything about the cars inherent problem. Would someone please correct this problem before more people get terrified or die. Really this needs to get doneby our government. This is a serious safety problem. Like the pinto gas tank design.

Recently i had a situation where i was driving on county road way and my car suddenly collapsed and came to an immediate stop. To say the least, i was a little shook up. I got out the car and noticed that the driver side wheel had lodged against the wheel well. The car would go into gear but it was making a knocking noise so i turned it off. A driver of a green sedan car was behind me and i was trying to wave her around me but she stopped and assisted me into getting my car off the street by pushing my car while it was in neutral. I am only telling you this because there was nothing wrong with my car before this incident. I was told by hyundai thompson that my car would not start after it was towed there. I went there the next day and the car did start but it would not go into gear which was a surprise to me. I was told that they may have to check the transmission and talk to you to see if that damage would be cover under the recall for replacing the engine cradle. After hyundai thompson repaired my car i had to take it back for a roaring noise caused by the wheel bearing in the wheel that jammed against the wheel well when the axle snapped off the subframe. They also could not preform a wheel alignment.i also took it for a safety inspection and it failed due to some items i feel are related to the repair of replacing the subframe like the wheel bearing, the front end alignment, both front upper control arms and the outer tie rods missing cotter keys. I want to know my rights concerning this recall and i also want my car in the driving condition before this incident occurred. Case # 15551136 with hyundai.

I was driving down my street when the drivers cv axle popped out of the transmission. I got the vehicle towed home and removed the wheel to find that the subframe was corroded completely into. I know there are recalls pertaining to this exact issue on this type of car

When driving andwith no prior warning vehicle will start to jerk, and then it will accelerate.

While applying brakes fora stop light vehicle suddenly accelerated was force vehicle into an intersection, and get involved in a frontal collision with an ongong vehicle. Dealer andmanufacuerer were not notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further infromation.

Vehicle accelerated suddenly ,resulting in a collision, and causing minor injuries todriver. Consumer states this accident happened the day that the vehicle was going to be taken to the dealer for this sudden acceleration problem.

While driving at any speed vehicle will not accelerate and will slowdown rapidly. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.

While driving rpms go up high, idle will not drop.vehicle accelerated suddenly and unexpectedly without warning.car drives over 40 without foot on gas.hard time braking because engine is too high. Has been going on since had car.dealer adjusted cable and didn't work.almost went thru dealer wall when bringing it in for repair.is in repair shop again because problem was not fixed.car is unsafe and had near collisions.

I have a 2001 hyundai sonata gls and i have been through no less than 4 driver's side visors because the plastic around the elbow that connects to the ceiling breaks and the visor becomes no longer operable.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai sonata. The contact stated that both the driver and passenger side sun visors were fractured from the frame. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer nor repaired. The current mileage was 91,000 and the failure mileage was 89,000.

Since purchasing the car in january 2003, i had to take the vehicle in 3 different dates for service to the front and rear windows. The windows each have failed at different dates. The windows will go down and then will fail to raise/close.

3 of 4 window mechanisms have failed in the down position do not allow the windows to be rolled up.first the driver side window mechanism failed in april 2004 and was repaired.the back passenger window failed in july and front passenger windows failed in october.it appears the window mechanism cording is causing the malfunction.the passenger windows have not been repaired and are secured temporarily in the up position.the old parts still in tact.

The car is a 2001 hyundai sonata gl.my right rear window regulator failed and the window will not stay up.the cable has issues with binding to the assembly housing and puts stress on the motor as well.the window will not stay in the up / closed position.

Windshield keeps cracking insame location, above the rearview mirror, then, it curves down 8 inches towardpassenger's seat. Windshield has been replaced 4 times, at this time it needs replacement again.

I was driving down my street when the drivers cv axle popped out of the transmission. I got the vehicle towed home and removed the wheel to find that the subframe was corroded completely into. I know there are recalls pertaining to this exact issue on this type of car

She said recalls started in july of 09and are still being issued to date, she said she'd mail me a packet to fill out and send back -oh joy!! cant wait.
