On 4 separate occasions while traveling on highways at highway speed in ev mode, getting a warning "check hybrid system turn off engine" along with a check engine light; these are the occurrence dates 12/01/2017, 12/11/2017, 12/23/2017, 01/06/2018.each time has been accompanied by a complete loss of gasoline engine availability resulting in a significant and unsafe drop in vehicle speed due to the car only being able to continue running on battery power.after pulling over i have been able shutdown the car and restart.upon restart, the gasoline engine does come back on.also note the "check engine" light has turned back off by the time i have taken the car back to the dealership.the car has been to the dealership twice now and supposedly repaired both times under warranty.the first repair attempt on 12/12/2017; the dealer was instructed by hyundai to try tsb 16-01-020-1.the second repair attempt on 12/27/2017; there had been a p261f and p0a0f fault code and the dealer was instructed by hyundai to replace all four spark plug coils.these attempts have not fixed the underlying problem as represented by the latest occurrence on 01/06/2018.this car is less than two years old and had only 36000 miles on it when this started happening.

I had drove my car to work on tuesday the 19th. When i came back out to my car 6 hours later and started my car it was not moving at allthere was a big clanking noise. I had parked my car and have not driven since i heard the noise. I had it towed to the shop. I feel as though this was something that happened out of the blue. I have kept up on my maintenance and everything and feel as though this must be a flaw with my car.

I saw engine powertrain problem light on my car screen. So i went to capital hill hyndai dealer. I waited more than 6,5hour with eating breakfast and lunch at near mall. Hyundai explained just gas cap tighting problem. They never explained the process about six and half hour fixing. I need detail explanation about six hour fixing process and sincere apology about the engine problem sign in one week after buying new car. Went to go get an oil changed on feb 9th. Monday, feb 11th drove to work and back home, when i reached the exit off the beltway, the car started put puting, smoke started coming out of the back, engine and oil light came on. I immediately drove it 6 miles home to park it. Had it towed an hour later. The shop said the rod busted and went through my engine and no oil was in the car. This has been an ongoing issues with this type of car. This experience has really dramatized me. Not sure if my insurance will pay for it and i will have to come out of pocket to replace an engine that could have possibly been a recall. Based of my vin: its not, but january 2019 & april 2016, there were recalls with this same issue. Its not right.

Abrupt and total loss of acceleration at full throttle at or near high rpm shift points. This behavior can be reliably reproduced by "flooring it" (all the way, including kickdown) and not letting go - as if one is executing a passing maneuver.the power loss will occur at the next shift point after kick down, and will not be cleared until the accelerator pedal is released and re-applied - or after approximately 15 to 20 seconds after the occurrence if the driver does not release the pedal.in cases where the pedal is not released after the power loss, the vehicle will surge suddenly after the condition has cleared and repeat the behavior described above.this behavior can be reproduced in any drive program mode (eco, normal, sport,) and in both automatic and manual shift selection modes, and is especially prevalent at speeds above 45 mph where sudden full throttle command causes kickdown.the drivetrain should respond reliably when it is commanded full-throttle.a sudden power loss at a shift point during a full throttle maneuver is unsafe: (1) it disorientates the driver and; (2) causes un-commanded, unexpected, and rapid changes in driving force, weight distribution, friction, and reaction forces which could lead to a loss of control.

Just saw on tvconsumer reports about poor night vision with suv headlights and was reminded of a problem i have that may affect other vehicles headlights. I have a 2016 hyundai sonata hybrid. I was driving home at night this last winter during a very heavy wet snowstorm when i noticed my headlights seem to be getting dimmer and dimmer. At first i thought the snow storm was just getting worse but it was way too unsafe to stop and check them so i just drove slower and slower. When i got home in my garage, i noticed than there was at least a couple of inches of snow built up over my headlights severely limiting how much light was passing through them. I also noticed that the headlights were also burning way to cool to melt off the snow as our other vehicles had. So are most of the newer headlights burning cooler or is this just a freak problem i had?

9/14 vehicle parking breaks engaged. Replaced parking break sensor and motor and car was available to be picked up on 9/21, but not picked up until 9/24. On 9/25 parking break engaged again doing roughly 15mph after turning the vehicle on in a parking lot.

After the car has sat idle for several hours when i depress the brake pedal to start the car i get a whoooomp sound. I took the car to the dealer and was told that after the car sits idle for awhile the air goes out of the breaking system and therefore it makes this sound at start up.my question are why, after two years of ownership, is it happening now? and, why isn't the part allowing air to escape replaced?

There is noise pooook sound when i press the brake pedal.it come from thebreaking system. My car has only 13467 miles on it.this sound comes oncewhen ipress brake pedal. I hear the noise when the vehicle is between 10-40 mile per hour speed. Took it to sacramento hyundaifound the defect still in garage. Also when press the brake pedal slow release of the break.

New sonata hybrid, owned 3 months, mileage 6,000 miles.right rear brakes have locked on two different occasions at low speed while negotiating a hard left turn on a state highway.both failures occurred at the same highway location about a month apart.when the right rear brakes locked, the vehicle was hard to control and as i was negotiating a sharp turn on a mountain road, it was terrifying.if there had been other vehicles coming in the opposing lane, there very easily could have been a head-on collision or worse (i.e car over the side of the mountain).car will be taken to dealer for analysis and repair.

While driving in a parking lot, the parking break automatically engaged. Approx speed was 15 mph. Repairs still being worked after 5 days. Unknown root cause. Attempting to replace the motor next.

On july 10th, 2017 around 6:30 pm pst; while driving on highway 5 west around tracy, ca, the panoramic sunroof shattered with a very loud noise. Glass pieces scattered all over. Remaining piece of the glass around the roof is clearly visible raised outward (convex shaped) as it blew up. Evidently there has been similar incidents/complaints.hyundai motors must not have sold this car to us as they knew about this problem with their cars.my family could have got into serious accident. I am still shaken up as a result of this incident.

The contact owns a 2016 hyundai sonata hybrid. When driving the vehicle up or down an hill, it failed to maintain the desired speed. Instead, the vehicle's speed would increase or decrease 5-6 mph from the desired speed. The contact also stated that the vehicle's resume feature failed to return the vehicle back to the desired speed when driving. The feature set the vehicle at the automatic set speed of 40 mph. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was discovered that the speed control only worked on high incline type of road conditions. In addition, the resume feature failed. The vehicle's computer system was reset; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and believed it may be part of the design feature. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000.

Whilei was driving on interstate , moonroof/sunroof start making awkward noise. I noted the moonroof had came out of it's position. I held with one hand and driveso that other vehicles approaching will be safe. Unfortunately i could not hold longer due to the wind power and it flew back and shattered the entire moonroof. I just want the nhtsa to be aware of this incident.
