Air bag sensor. Air bag light on dash is illuminated. Mechanic stated needs to be replaced. Unsure if air bags will deploy or not.

On may 2010 the air bag warning indicator light on my dashboard suddenly illuminated and would not go out even when the vehicle was in operation. Got an appointment and took my 2009 santafe limited awd v6 into the dealer and here's the narrative from the dealer:"customer states his air bag light is onpresent code b1334 f15 front impact sensor error inhistorycleared code verified to be ok"there were no repairs completed, only the error code was cleared. About 3 weeks after the code was cleared the air bag warning light began to illuminate again during driving and would stay on for about 20 seconds at a time, while driving, and then go off. This occurred on two occasions. Today, august 3, 2010 the air bag warning light illuminated again, while driving, and did not go off. It remains on. I will be returning back to the dealer.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they advised the contact that the front passenger seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 60,000.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. Every time the vehicle was started, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The dealer diagnosed that the passenger seat had an air bag sensor failure and the entire seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the passenger side air bag light would not illuminate with the passenger seat occupied. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed for the failure. The technician advised the contact that the sensor for the passenger side air bag could have needed replacement but a diagnostic test was required. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 12v354000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 68,900.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 83,200.

The air bag light came on my console 2 days ago. I took it to a mechanic who ran a diagnostic on it and concluded it was the occupant classification system (ocs). I found out there was a recall on 07/25/2012 recal number 12v354000 for this exact problem. However, i was not the owner at that time. I called 2 hyundai dealerships nearby - countryside and st. Petersburg, fl who both told me they could not find any open recalls under my vin number. This is unacceptable. Hyundai needs to accept all charges for the cost to repair this issue and it should be covered under the recall. As of now i am driving a vehicle that is unsafe because hyundai will not honor my vehicle!!!

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while parked, the air bag warning light illuminated. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000. The vin was not available.

The passenger side air bag sensor (ocs) remains in the off position when my small stature wife (5 ft 98 lbs) rides in the passenger seat. This is a major safety concern that i would like hyundai to correct. I read that some 2009 santa fe models had a recall due to this exact issue (recall campaign 105) but mine model does not seem to be included. I am not sure why but since my 2009 santa fe has the same problem as the recall addressed.this has been a problem since we purchased the vehicle in 2009. Our local dealership told us that there is nothing they could do. Now i see on the nhtsa website that hyundai can update the ocs classification software.i believe hyundai shouldupdate my vehicle's software at no charge.

The air bag light stays on while driving. Unknown cause of the problem. Recall was done prior to buying the car to my knowledge. But i assume that the part went out again.

The vehicle was stationary stopped in a line of traffic on an exit ramp.another vehicle, traveling at high speed, failed to notice traffic was stopped and struck my vehicle from behind.the force of the impact caused heavy damage to my rear bumper, bent the frame and crumpled the rear passenger side quarter panel, etc.it also launched my vehicle diagonally into the guard rail causing heavy damage to my front bumper and driver side quarter panel, etc.the impact launched me forward and my face smashed into the steering wheel, breaking my nose, injuring my eye socket, causing a concussion and whiplash in my neck.i was wearing my seat belt.the air bags never deployed. Had the airbags deployed, it may have saved my face and preventing other injuries.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sante fe. The contact stated that the air bag light was constantly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin and failure mileage were unknown.

My car has been in two accident one was yesterday when a deer jumped out in front of my car on the highway and i hit her straight on going about 55 miles per hour.the front of my car is destroyed but yet my air bags never went off.the first accident i was in was in the winter and a car plowed into me as i pulled over because i noticed she was out of control, she was coming down a large hill and was going at a high speed when she hit the drive side back door which caved in and the door was in the back seat. The back end frame of my car needed to be replaced.i was upset thinking what if one of my children was in the car with me but i was told the reason the airbags didn't go off because it wasn't a flat hit to the side of my car. Someone is going to get killed if these airbags don't go off when they should.

Air bag light stays illuminatedon dashboard and does not go off.code read 1490b which is the occupancy sensor.apparentlythe 2007 and 2008 hyundai santa fe has been recalled for same problem but not the 2009 hyundai santa fe yet. Dealership in lacrosse wisconsinsaid they would have to order a whole.new seat at a cost of $2000.vehicle has never been in an accident.hyundai should have to fix for free. This must be a manufacturerdefect.unsafe to drive as now i don'tknow if my airbag will deploy if i'm am in an accident. Is it possible this model year might also be recalled. Sounds like same problem as previous years. A $2000 repair is ridiculous!

Slowed down to pull into parking spot and suddenly car picked up speed and crash through a vacant store front.car stopped after hitting a wall and moved what ever was on the other side of the wall. Air bags did not deploydriver of car was shaken up but no physical injuries. Car damaged towed to junk yard and insurer totaled vehicle.

One morning the air bag light came on.we have had the car 18 months with a new car warranty because of mileage 72,000 when we bought it.took to dealer and it was a bad clock spring which controls the air bag. If it returns says the air bag needs to be replaced$450 and not covered under bumper bumper warranty .car was in the garage.did not bump anything, no accident.

We were rearended by a large pickup truck that was travelling at a high rate of speed and the driver did not apply his brakes. We were struck while attempting and making a right turn, spun around clockwise and flipped on our top, totally demolishing our car. Our concern: the airbag system did not engage resulting in injuries requiringimmediate transportation for hospitalization for the driver and passenger. The accident occurred on a paved, rural-type street with little traffic present. The driver has a broken neck, multiple injuries including a closed head concussion.

I was coming from food shopping, on august, 26, 2019 and was trying to leave out my parking spot. While me backing out, my vehicle accelerated backward and while i tried to stop my vehicle it tapped into a light pole. I was trying to get my self out of this weird situation. I switched gears to park my car, and my car accelerated forward slamming into a brick wall and also rubbing against it. My car then slowly started to back up not even letting me be able to break or switch gears. For the last time it accelerated forwardside swiping a lady car and hitting the brick wall again. My air bags did not go off, leaving me with an concussion and also sever neck and head pain. This all happen so suddenly and randomly. I barely remembered what happened until seeing a video off of the camera at a near by gas station. This situation went from something weird happening into a very dangerous and scary situation. I contacted national consumers affairs hyundai motor vehicle, because my car had been totaled, i was left with hospital bills and also my insurance may go up, because of the whole situations. I thought i would have came to some closure when it came to them helping me out with my situation, but they told me they can't find nothing wrong with my car and there was no defect or anything. After sending these people pictures, the video, and even proof of me going to the hospital more than once, they made me feel like this was all my fault. I spoke to a "private" contractor from hyundai that was supposed to look into my car and also a specialist that didn't want to give me his last name while looking into my case. Also a lady from hyundai called me from a private number from the company. This all seem so weird to me as if they were scamming me when it came to a serious situation like this. I feel like hyundai is running fake investigations. I'm hoping nhtsa do something asap.

Airbag light continuously on. Never had a problem before. Have been in an accident but cleared. Car was put back together and not on a salvage title. Fuel pump sensors are at fault. Need to replace fuel pump sensors. All fault codes appear when vehicle is not in motion.

Air bag light on dashboard will not go off.

The passenger airbag of a 2009 hyundai santa fe disengages when a person weighing 106 pounds places their arms on the arm rests.the passenger airbags also disengage when the person sit with their feet flat on the floor boards, but their knees rise above the seat.the person has to stretch their legs out so that they lay across the entire bottom portion of the seat.we reported this problem numerous times to our local hyundai dealership (where we purchased the car new).they were unapologetically and said that this was an engineering flaw that they could not fix.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated upon starting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the front passenger air bag sensors failed. The contact was informed that the air bags and seat belt may not function in the event of crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The air bag light remained illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

On 01/02/2010, i bought a hyundai santa fe limited from a car dealer named southern states imports in raleigh.a few days later, i noticed that the front seat passenger airbag off red light stayed on occasionally regardless of the weight or position of the front seat occupant.around the same time, i noticed that the cd player occasionally automatically tripped over to the radio and vice versa.i called the dealership and received conflicting advice on what i should do at this time.however, i chose the advice of my first contact person at the dealership and decided to wait until either or both my complaints occurred again.two days after this decision, the airbag off light did not go off as i was traveling to downtown raleigh, nc.the next morning, i noticed that instead of the entertainment center opening to a cd music set (since it was last on cd), music from a radio station started playing.the next day- monday, i dropped the car at the dealerships service department.after 2-3 days of testing, i was asked to pick up my car and told they were unable to duplicate my complaints.both dealership and usa hyundai advised me to bring it into service as soon as i notice either complaint happening again regardless of time.a few days later (2-3 days) the same complaints (airbag and radio problems) re-occurred and i dropped the santa fe at southern states hyundai dealership service station with one of my sons at about 10. 15 p.m.ofcourse, i have been informed by both dealership and us hyundai that they problems could not be detected or duplicated.as a result of the above problems, i have no confidence to drive this particular hyundai and the car in question has remained in the hands of the southern states hyundai dealership and/or service department.

While pulling into head-in parking space, 2009 hyundai santa fe suddenly accelerated.hit a concrete wall, causing significant radiator and fender damage (estimated total repair costs over $8000).driver suffered scrapes and bruises on neck/chest from seatbelt/steering wheel, bruising on knee, and head pain .child in rear booster seat suffers neck pain.air bag did not deploy.

Right front fog light inoperative. Dealer replaced halogen bulb. Within a few days fog lamp overheated causing bulb socket and lens bulb holder to completely melt down causing bulb to fall down onto the inside of the right front bumper and burned two holes through bumper almost causing a fire as bulb was still functioning. No circuit breakers or fuses blew. Dealer states this has happened before to other vehicles and now dealer needs to replace both socket & wiring and complete lens body.

Two times my car has stalled while driving, one at 10 mph and one at 20 mph.there are no signs that the car is going to stall.have no lights, brakes, steering, can't even use hazard lights.

Fuel level gauge becomes erratic and non-responsive to actual fuel levels. Most of the time the level gauge on the instrument cluster will read an empty tank with the fuel warning light lit, even after filling up the tank with gas. First symptoms occured while driving at highway speeds.

(intermittent issue)radio stays on after shutting off ignition and removing key.it shuts off briefly when car door is opened, but when you shut car door, the radio and clock come back on.i am concerned of electrical issues in my vehicle, which could potentially start a fire by remaining on. Also, my power windows, by pushing the button after the key is removed can also move up and down(intermittent issue).to try and correct the radio issue, i have removed the cable from the usb port (for ipod usage) while the car is on, turned off the engine, removed the key and the radio & clock are still on.i have reviewed websites and have not found that there are any recalls or issues.i don't know if this is part of the vehicle's features that are normal, it just doesn't seem right.

Vehicle stalls while slowing down. When this happens, headlights and power steering and braking are lost, and the check engine light and battery light come on. Imagine driving down a dark windy road at night and losing power steering and braking and not being able to see the road. This is accurate to the experience. If i turn car off and back on, it starts just fine. It happens everywhere, on the freeway, while parking, etc. Every person i have talked to with same vehicle confirms the same. I have yet to find anyone with a fix. There is a recall out for 2010 and on for a similar issue. This issue started happening in 2015 when i purchased the car, and it has continued to happen for years.

My 2009 hyundai sante fe just purchased with 50 miles on in 07/29/09, blew up on me while i was driving and totally burned the front and engine.i have an evaluation from 21st century appraisers required by geico whom diagnosed a total loss.valuescopegeicoclaim servicesmarket report report reference number: 42157015adjuster: huffman-parent, bradclaim reference: 0180834550101087-01 geico c-code: cag605loss incident date: 09/04/2009 date submitted: 09/10/2009insured: lawsonowner: cleo lawsonpolicy number: 0311588404 appraiser: huffman-parent, bradintroductiongeico has conducted an inspection of your 2009 hyundai santa fe 4x2 gls 4door sports utility located in oklahoma city, ok.the inspection informationwas then used to conduct research in your local market to determine themarket value of your vehicle. On several occasions while driving the car completely shuts off no steering no gas nothing quite dangerous and quite scary while the car is in motion on the street

Gas gauge and light always on empty when tight after it is full of gas and loud humming sound from fuel pump. Stalled out in middle of intersection multiple times.

2009 hyundai santa fe v6 3.3 liter has experienced occasional, random stalling over a few years, always while braking and often while turning.the problem seems to happen after a period of steady speed driving and then slowing down and turning.when this happens, the vehicle steering instantly gets very difficult and braking ability likewise becomes increasingly difficult.after putting the vehicle in neutral, or pulling over and parking the vehicle, it will always start right back up and run fine.the throttle position sensor has been replaced but the problem persists.i am a 50 year old man who can wrestle the car to safety (so far), but my wife, children, or others may not be so fortunate.there are repeated mentions of other hyundai vehicles with similar problems, and these mostly mention a tps replacement and an accompanying ecu firmware update.there are no apparent recalls or tsbs with hyundai that affect this vehicle and engine combination, and this is a huge safety problem for which there appears to be a remedy path.

This has happened on 4 separate occasions, both while driving in town at slow speeds and on a highway at high speeds.the check engine light will come on and the car will cut off, no power at all.on each occasion i put the car in neutral and restarted the car immediately and it resumed it's normal driving capacity.it is very scary to be driving along and then all of a sudden the car cuts off for no reason.the last time it happened i was in the middle of a sharp curve, so not having power steering at that point was not very safe, as i ended up in the other lane but thank goodness there wasn't a car coming in the other direction at the time.

I am having the issue with the gas gauge, where a short time after filling up the tank, the gauge drops to empty and then the check engine light comes on.i believe this problem was caused by the same issue as a recent recall, where oil was dripping on the alternator.just a couple days after i received the recall for that issue, i began having electrical issues.my radio came on and off, my windows rolled up and down very slowly.on my last drive home, my electronic brakes stopped working, the steering was hard and the transmission began shifting up and down before i was finally able to pull over and have the car towed.upon my drive home from the dealer after the recall repair, i noticed that a headlight was newly burned out.in less than a week, the other headlight burned out.on the same tank of gas i had since getting the car back from the dealer, the gauge first dropped to empty before the tank was empty.i believe something was shorted out in the gas gauge system, just as the headlights and all the other electrical issues that resulted from the alternator not working. Hyundai should repair the gas gauge issue since it was caused by the issue of their last recall.

We had a sudden loss of power while traveling on the interstate at 70 mph.had to get over quickly as the traffic was heavy and the car had no power.the engine would not deliver any power, other than idle.turned the car off and let it sit for about 15 seconds, then started the car and had power back for about 3 miles.happened again and did the same for about ten miles until got home. Recently started to happen again, same codes come up each time.took car to dealership and they told me that it was just glitches causing codes to come up and cause the esc to go into safe mode.since then i have seen the exact same codes and not a lot of codes, but codes that indicate an ignition/fuel/control module problem.this is not as bad as acceleration, but if pulling out in traffic or on an on ramp, could be deadly.has now happened seven times. First date was april 2014, could not enter date in your form for some reason.

While traveling on the interstate at speed (70 mph), car stopped responding to throttle with no warning.as i merged to right lane, car died completely and i had to maneuver to shoulder with no power.stuck here with wife and 2 toddlers until towed to mechanic.the alternator was dead and had to be replaced.one year later, same thing (luckily not on interstate this time, and warning light did come on this time).alternator replaced again. Later in 2015, hyundai announced a maintenance campaign (#936), and i was reimbursed for initial 2 events, and local dealer completed the required maintenance in nov 2015.2 years later, same thing: warning lights, oil on alternator, etc.local dealer again completes the work (thankfully at no charge to me).as of today, oil is on the alternator again, and i feel it is only a matter of time before the issue occurs again.as my wife is typically driving the kids around in this vehicle, i do not like the thought that it could cut off at any moment.i am hoping hyundai will announce a permanent fix or recall.i am reaching out to them for advice on the latest recurrence.initial event: 6/28/14 (mileage: 61020)2nd event: 6/1/15 (mileage: 79800)hyundai campaign completed:11/19/15 (mileage: 89512)3rd event: 08/30/17 (mileage: 119929)feb 2018(mileage: 127177) - notice oil building on alternator again

Recently while driving the car seems to hesitate then has a minor acceleration. It seems as if its about to stall but catches and accelerates or increases to original speed. This is concerning especiallywhen it occurs during rush hour traffic. In addition, i had to replace the battery at 24, 348 miles as the car died on me twice while traveling. I purchased a battery from o'rielly auto parts as it was closer to my home. The dealer would only state that battery failure has occurred with less than 30,000 miles on the sante fe however since i didn't bring my car to them the battery is not covered under warranty. It is unbelievable that battery life is this short.

My esc, abs& awd symbol came on at the same time & i know other people who own hyundais & had this issue im guessing this is something major because when i called the dealership they knew exactly what i was talking about they all came on while i was driving

The fuel gauge stopped working around 67,000 miles after filling up the gas. The gauge would float between full and empty regardless of gas usage usually resting at empty.then the check engine light started going on because of the fuel gauge malfunction.this is unsafe because there is no way to gauge the amount of gas in the car,.it is also unsafe to have the check engine light always on, because there is no other way to alert the driver of safety issues.

The battery light kept blinking, my battery is new, also the seat belt light for passenger seat kept blinking even when the seat belt was buckled. I stalled out and wouldn't start back up. I was in the street when it wouldn't start back up. I had it looked at when it was towed and the shop said there was alot of oil on my alternator and i would have to replace my value cover gaskets also.

I noticed that when i was in park, the car would just shut off.this happened three times within a few week's time.i was concerned and wondered if the car would ever just shut off while i was driving on the freeway or a busy street.to my horror, it happened!a few days ago i was turning into a parking lot and the car just shut off!...there was a car behind me that came to a screeching halt!again my greatest fear is that the car will stall on me while the vehicle is in motion and if that happens on a road where cars are travelling at high speeds, then i would probably not live to tell the story.

Gas gage indication shows empty when the tank is full or empty. This happened with our 2008 santa fe too.

Continuation of complaint 10302521. Since last service dept visit, dvd player worked fine for approx. 2 months. Now in july 2010, dvd player is back to switching to xm at random at least 1 x wk and up to 1 x day. Mostly after bumpy rds. But service dept refuses it is a loose wire. They have continually stated they do not want to tear apart steering wheel even though that and the actual player are the last areas not replaced. Srvce dept stands by intertwining radio signals, then why is it switching to xm and not picking up the random signal.feel like i have to live with it. Srvc dept again suggested i leave car so they can search again but no guarantees.does anyone know if there is a fix.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the heater and air condition spontaneously activated without warning and failed to turn off. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

Hyundai santa fe purchased on 12 sept 2009. Dvd screen not functioning, could hear movie not see it. Dealership replaced screen in october 2009. Since then, the dvd rse system has intermittently changed from dvd to xm or cd at will. Rear passengers are not able to reach the dvd buttons due to age and child safety seats. Rse is locked from front controls. Dvd system continues to switch from dvd to xm or cd at least once per day causing the passengers to be blasted with high volume music. In october 2009, the internal electrical control system (for doors and windows and such) was replaced and the alarm system was reset (it kept arming itself randomly). In november 2009, the alarm system was reset again and the dvd problem was brought to mechanics attention again. Alarm system was fixed but they could not replicate the dvd problem. Took car in again 16 january 2010, was told intertwining outside radio signals and the fact i work on a military base were causing the dvd to switch. Ft sam houston, tx is mainly a medical training military base. Mechanic replicated problem but later told shop manager that he couldn't replicate the problem with out driving in town where i normally drive. Mechanic and repair shop manager stated it could not be a loose plug or wiring it was the radio signals.this occurs at random and i thought it was from bumps in the road until it continued to happen when driver was not touching the steering wheel or radio controls, at stop lights, and on smooth roads.i researched this problem and found a blog on edmunds stating hyundai has know about this and audio problems since 2007 but nothing will fix dvd problem.*cw

Noticed fuel gauge started to fluctuate whenever vehicle was parked for a while. Stopped at church showed 1/4 tank with a range of 90 miles, stopped at walmart showed between 1/4 & 1/2 tank and a range of 147 miles. About to take this vehicle on the road and really have no choice but to have it fixed. Drove old vehicles for years and never had a fuel gauge go bad. This is only under warranty for 5/60k so thanks hyundai, i am crossing them off the list of my next car model. Btw $600 bill for this.people want to know if it's a safety factor. Of course not, running out of gas on the middle of an interstate can't be a safety problem. To me it's no different than having your keys turn your ignition switch off cause they're too heavy.

While getting onto the highway from the on ramp the car began to accelerate on its own.the gas pedal began to depress itself without me doing it.the cruise control was not engaged and the floor matt was not the cause. Braking was difficult and the engine continued to rev.i pulled off the highway and stopped the engine.after telling my family about the incident my daughter told me that it had occurred twice before in the same manner about 2 months ago.

I purchased this car used in 2011. Over the years, at random times, the radio will "pop" off and back on again. It doesn't seem to affect the rest of the electrical system in the car, but it's a little scary when it happens - mechanic can't replicate. Now, twice in the last week, my car has stalled while slowing down, once on a multi-lane street and once after decelerating coming off the expressway (complete loss of power, steering, brakes, etc). I put the car in neutral and it started right back up, but this has happened in heavy traffic and scared the cr*p out of me! i'm terrified that this might happen at a higher speed on the expressway. I have seen several mentions of similar power losses for this same vehicle. I have no check engine lights and no codes come up when scanned. No recalls reported either, although a power loss at the wrong time could kill someone. Not sure if this is electrical, engine or fuel system related - i had over a half a tank of gas in the car during both occurrences.

When entering an up-ramp to a limited access highway at slow speed, less than 30 mph, and turning to the right, the engine suddenly died and power was lost to steering and brakes. We were able to pull off the road and restart, but were just lucky that this didn't happen on a curve at high speed or in heavy traffic.took the car to the dealer the next day, and they were unable to repeat the problem.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While driving at 60 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000. Updated 09/21/15*ljupdated 12/4/2017

For the last year, my fuel gauge has been malfunctioning. At first, it only happened every once in a while, but once i got to about 8 months, the gauge has constantly told me the wrong fuel level. I have asked a mechanic about it and it is the fuel level sensors located in the gas tank that are malfunctioning. Apparently, this is a problem with many of the santa fe's that were built around that time. I have a low mileage vehicle. It was bought in 2016 with 22,000 miles. The gas gauge problem started around 40,000 miles and only happened a few times. The constant check engine light illumination and constant malfunction of the gas gauge started at 50,000 miles and i am now at 60,000 miles. The problem happens when the car is stationary and while i am driving it. I have to keep a full tank at all times just do i don't run out if gas.

The check engine light went on because of the fuel gauge. It was running on a city street. Now i can't tell how much gas i do, or don't, have

We were exiting west bound i-10 in pensacola, fl, and when turning right onto the surface road at slow speed the engine died and we lost power including steering and brakes. We were able to pull off of the road into a restaurant parking lot and restart the car, but had a close call with suddenly reduced speed in merging traffic. This is the second time this has happened to us in this car. The first incident was in aug, 2013 and was reported as incident report #1053149. At that time, the dealer was unable to reproduce the issue, so no repair was made. We believe that this is a safety issue and should be investigated.

My fuel gauge is no longer working. It doesn't register the amount of gas. The gauge goes up and down randomly and mainly stays on empty.

The engine lights stays on when you fill the gas tank it still says empty when driving everything will shut off this is for the second time in less than a year

At around 90,000 miles, the fuel gauge stopped working. Evidently, this is a common problem. Even after filling the tank with gas, the gauge shows "empty". The problem seems to be the fuel sending units in the tank - the sensor brushes break off and the unit no longer sends a signal to the gauge. This poses safety issues to people who don't carefully track their car's fuel use, which could result in a car stalling on the highway due to fuel exhaustion. The problem sets trouble codes and lights the "check engine" light.

When i went to start vehicle the electrical system came on but did not turn the starter, this happened maybe twice last year.so far this year it has happened about 5 times.the electrical system comes on when i turn the key to start but nothing happens,i finally found out if i put my foot on the brake and take the transmission out of park and work it thru all gears then shove it back to park it will start.we travel up to the state of washington from home ever year and would hate to get stranded some where along the road.

Incident 1: (10-20-2010) driver side head light was fogging up constantly. Dealer replaced the head light under warranty.incident 2: (02-22-2011) upon fill-up of the gas tank, just before it was topped off, there was a series of clunking noises. After taking it to the dealership, the gas tank was replaced.incident 3: (05-01-2011 approx.) upon removal of the cabin air filter cover, the little plastic parts that are squeezed to remove the cover broke, which wouldn't allow the cover to go back on. The dealer replaced the part and i have not yet replaced the filter yet.incident 4: (11-12-2011) driving 60 mph down the highway, i heard a loud banging noise coming from the engine compartment. As i was pulling over to check out the situation, the car lost power steering and air conditioning!my serpentine belt broke!after it was towed, the dealer replaced it, along with belt tensioner and idler pulley!incident 5: (07-30-2012) i was coming up to a stop light and upon deceleration, the check engine light and esc off light came on. After coming to a complete stop, the rpm gage showed 1100 rpm and it felt like the vehicle wanted to move as if i was pressing the accelerator. When i did try to accelerate, there was no power to accelerate ( the engine was still running, etc, but when i pressed the accelerator, i could only move a few miles per hour.) i pulled over and shut the vehicle off for a few minutes. I started it back up and the check engine light remained on, and i gained acceleration power.i took the vehicle to the dealership. They determined i had a faulty throttle position sensor as well as brake light switch and both were replaced by the dealer.[current mileage on vehicle after all incidents: 48,897]

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 15 mph, there was a loud pop sound and the vehicle failed to accelerate. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. In addition, the fuel gauge read empty. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer and the dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Updated 08/23/17*lj

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While driving various speeds, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the fuel gauge displayed an incorrect reading. The dealer (hatfield hyundai, 1400 auto mall pkwy, columbus, oh 43228) diagnosed that the fuel sender assembly and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 156,000.

While driving the vehicle it shut down. The warning lights came on the dashboard and the vehicle lost all functions (i.e. Acceleration, steering, etc) the incident was undetected by the dealership and not able to be duplicated. The vehicle has shut down since the initial malfunction.

While driving on the interstate at approximately 70 mph, using cruise control, the car suddenly lost power.i stepped on the gas and it would not accelerate. I coasted to a stop and pulled onto the shoulder.the engine was running, transmission was in gear, but the car would not move.i turned off the ignition and let it sit for a few minutes.i restarted it, had power, everything seemed normal, except the engine light remained lit.i drove approximately 10 miles to my destination.the car sat for six hours and i was then able to drive the 65 miles home without incident. Repair results:my hyundai dealer indicated the problem was caused by a 'throttle position sensor'.they replaced the electronic component and reset the error codes in the vehicle's computer.

Other public voqs and private consumer complaints support the contacts allegations that the vehicle had a catastrophic failure with the electronic throttle control system.the 2009 hyundai santa fe was not equipped with available 'smart pedal' brake throttle override technology.in 2012, hyundai admitted that "with virtually all cars using electronic throttle control today, there remains the remote possibility for an unforeseen electronic throttle control malfunction, causing a vehicle to accelerate contrary to driver input. Although very unlikely due to various built-in electronic safety protocols, unforeseen circumstances could still exist that could cause this type of malfunction.'hyundai introduced `this critical safety technology' on 100 percent of its new models anticipating the government might mandate it sometime in the future.'with hyundai's brake pedal throttle override capability, any brake pedal input by the driver, even with a runaway throttle condition, completely overrides any throttle malfunction,' stated the director of certification and compliance affairs for hyundai's american technical center, inc. This adds a reassuring, incremental safeguard of control for hyundai drivers.' per consumer affairs, 'local police agency suggests that hyundai accelerated on its own before fatal crash'.special crash investigation.

Fuel gauge not working properly, it will go from showing there is gas in the tank to completely empty, then back to gas in the tank. This has lead to the check engine light coming on. I don't want to get stuck out in this cold weather with an empty tank due to a faulty fuel gauge

The check engine light came on because of the gas gauge. Now i have no clue how much gas i have because the reader on the dash keeps going up and down. A month ago, i had the alternator and gas line replaced because of the last recall/service announcement. These electrical problems stem from that replacement.

After driving at highway speeds and decelerating, hyundai santa fe 2009 vehicle abruptly stalls with no warning. No error codes show. This is extremely dangerous as vehicle immediately shuts down and is an accident risk. All power steering and brake operation shut down.

My 2009 hyundai santa fe has stalled more than 4 times while driving since 2010. It loses power without warning rendering the vehicle unsafe and not able to be driven. The first time in 2010 it stopped while on the exit ramp of a highway doing about 50 mph. The car was brought to the dealership and they "could not duplicate the problem" so they did nothing. Brought same vehicle back to dealership in 2011, 2014 and 2019. Each time we are told "could not duplicate at this time". The most recent on august 7, 2019 they replaced the alternator and battery commenting that "vehicle now operates normally. Vehicle does not stall".the vehicle has since stalled again during driving. The dealership will only look again at the vehicle at the cost of $100.00 per hour. We have contacted the corporate office and they were not helpful, in fact rude and hung up. After reading so m;any complaints on just this site i hope our government can help get hyundai to be responsible for their vehicles before someone gets hurt or killed.

Takata recall: on june 2 2017 i took my vehicle to happy hyundai of oak lawn for an oil change. They determined there was a recall because of rusting of my cars undercarriage. They kept my vehicle until august 17,2017. On october 5th, i was backing in a parking spot, what i know now as my control arm, left axle and left ball joint broke. Had it towed home, called happy hyundai, has it towed there. After inspectioning my vehicle they determined the control arm & axle were a part of the campaign recall but they are refusing to fix my vehicle. Reuben told me on june 2, they were confiscating it because i could be driving and the bottom of the vehicle could fall off. Thankfully i wasn't driving on the highway. Hyundai returnses an unsafe vehicle to me and are not taking responsibility in repairing my vehicle when they should at least repair they recall since the control arm & axle was included in the recall. I think an investigation should be opened regarding this recall to ensure hyundai is repairing vehicles up to safety standards. The consumer requested a status update. Updated 12/07/2017

I was heading outand the abs and esc lights came on. Decided to turn around and go back home, due to fact that i was worried and scared that something was wrong with abs brakes and the esc control, that may or may not cause a crash or accident. I do not want to have an accident or end up getting hurt or hurt anyone else for that matter. Read in manual that it could be a faulty switch or sensor. I do not have that kid of costly money to fix problem. I need my car to get to doctors appointments as i have many health issues. If there is a recall i would like to know and have it fixed free of charge.

I bought a 2009 hyndai santa fe in 2013 with only 40,000 miles on it and had no problems until december of 2018. I drove about 20 miles and on the way back home it started going as slow as 5 miles an hour; i don't know if it is an issue about being recalled but i still have 2 more years of payments and the truck isn't working!!!

My esc, abs& awd symbol came on at the same time & i know other people who own hyundais & had this issue im guessing this is something major because when i called the dealership they knew exactly what i was talking about they all came on while i was driving

My car had the brake light switch repaired in 2013 before i owned the vehicle under recall 13v113000. Now the brake light switch has failed again. I first noticed the issue when i went to start my car and could not put the car in reverse. This happened seemingly out of nowhere after the car had been parked and off for about 10 minutes. My brake lights, electronic stability control, and cruise control do not work and i cannot shift the transmission. When i called hyundai i was told that the part was replaced in 2013 so there is no longer a recall option, even though the part is failing again.

Was going about 70 mph around topeka kansas when the vehicle lurched, then the esc, engine and chassis lights flashed.immediately afterwards the car lost all propulsion.fortunately i was by an off-ramp, but could of gotten in an accident which such a sudden deceleration.managed to get to an autozone store to check the fault.the fault came up as the throttle position sensor (tps).managed to get it to the dealership in topeka.they fixed in within 10 minutes, but after completing my trip back to colorado noticed the car is lurching again in lower speed, in-town traffic...very dangerous!!!will be contacting the dealership in colorado on monday morning!!had a similar problem two years ago, took it into the dealership and they said they couldn't find a problem with it.guess they won't be satisfied until the warranty period ends and someone gets killed.

I was driving approximately forty (40) miles per hour, in traffic, when the engine shut-off.i quickly turned the ignition to "off" and then back on.the engine started immediately.i am extremely concerned about being in an accident.this happened again, when i was driving through a parking lot.i quickly turned the ignition to "off" and then back on.the engine started immediately, on both occasions. I took my vehicle into planet hyundai in las vegas, nevada, on august 7, 2013.they could not identify the problem with their systems check and could not produce the same engine shut-off event, while operating the vehicle.

Vehicle inspection performed by manufacture certified technician. Two issues were recommended by the technician: a) new tires. All 4 tires currently on the vehicle are around 5 years old (based on the dot date of manufacture), and have been driven for over 100,000 miles (based on odometer readings from 2010 and current). B) new rear brake pads and rotors. The inspection revealed rear pads around 3 mm, and rotors showing rust. These are safety issues, which should be addressed before selling the vehicle. Regular maintenance has been performed on this vehicle, but existing records do not specify that recommended fluid/timing belt replacements were performed.

My 2009 hyundai santa fe stalled out again.this event happened while turning left onto a busy street after siting at a red light.the car lost all power, making it difficult to control while pulling over to the side of the road, but in the way of other drivers.i put the car in park and then the engine restarted and i was able to drive away.the car behind me was forced to slam on their brakes, as it appears that i have just decided to stop in the middle of the road.was nearly rear ended.very dangerous and completely out of my control.

When driving the 2009 santa fe the car will shut off without warning. Power to breaks and steering is lost. Sometimes the car will start again when the car is placed in neutral and restarted. Sometimes the car will not start again for several minutes. In both instances the car is moving on a hilly road. The most recent occurrence is 09/20/2016

Finally got hyundai to replace my rusted subframe engine cradle (took almost 8 months to get parts) and after they had the car for 2 days, i went and picked it up. Everything seamed okay, but apon starting the vehicle and shifting out of park into drive, there is a loud clunk when letting off the brake to start moving. Also when backing out of my drive, going from park to reverse the same sound happens. The sound also emits when going from drive to reverse and vise versa.

This vehicle has been had a fluctuation idle for over a year. It has been to the dealer for service on this issue many times. No codes are every thrown.i brought the tsb about idle issues to the dealer's attentions. They said this was only for certain error codes. Hyundai usa was directly contacted about this issue. No repairs were made for this issue. The vehicle has the 3.3l v6 engine.se trim level.the engine stalled when decelerating from a highway speeds to a stop. It stalled before the car stopped.it restarted and drove after that.no check engine light.i stopped at the dealer that same day. I had them check the electrical system jsut to be sure that was not the issue. Battery, charing, etc all tested fine. I have the printout.so the vechicle did not show a check engine light the dealer offered no other assistance.it is clear from searching the internet that many many people have an issue with hyundai vehicles around 2009 stalling. Most all of these people report the issue with no codes. So the dealer is limited in what they can do. They talked about ecm updates (firmware), and a fuel system sensor, and the crankcase senor.this is clearly a large issue putting people at risk.the nhtsa and ntsb should launch a full investigation, and find a real solution.issue a tsb at a minimum, or a recall if needed.

Driving at slow speed one block from home, engine suddenly shut down without warning in the middle of a turn.

While driving on the interstate, i approached my exit. As i am slowing down, the engine shuts off and steering becomes very hard. I quickly shifted into neutral to restart the car to avoid a crash. There were no warning lights on the dash before shutting down. I immediately took it to a mechanic to see what the problem was. He said he saw none. This has been going on since september 2020 and it is happening more than one time a day. Since then, i have taken it to 4 other mechanics who have all told me that they don't see any problems. I take chances everyday not knowing when the car will shut down on me while driving because this is my only vehicle that i just bought in april of 2020. This is a very serious problem that should've been looked into.

I was a passenger in the vehicle when it crashed into a fire hydrant doing approximately 40mph. The seatbelt failed to lock and the airbags failed to deploy. The car has major damage to the underbody, front-end, the inside of the vehicle dash, the motor mounts, engine and other damages are unknown at this time.

Just bought a 2009 hyundai santa fe. I didn't even make it out of town before it stalled on me several times. I would hurry up put in park and start up. I took it to the hyundai dealership and they said they seen this a lot of times before. Its the timing chain and tensioner. 2375 dollar fix.

Vehicle recall notice.recall states that alternator may fail on said vehicle resulting in loss of power, etc., etc. Took vehicle to authorized dealer.almost 2- hrs. Rep came to me for 1400 est in car repairs. No information on alternator.talked to boss and within five minutes was told it was about the valve cover gasket.work completed. Almost 3-hrs. Recall notice is false information to bring car owners into dealer to perform multi point inspection, etc., and perform needed work.not centered on auto recall at all. Unsat. Car was at dealership in shop for review and warranty work for recall. Because of recall work. All other cars(entailing monies) after me were completed before me. I was last out of waiting room.

This incident occurred at night time. About 10 min from a cold start, i turned onto the 210 fwy. There was a 270 degree downhill turn (a steep curve) so i had the brakes on while doing 15 mph. Half way into the turn, i suddenly lost brake and steering wheel froze. With some effort, i managed to turn the steering and stop the car. The engine died without warning. Later i sent the car to dealership but they could not reproduce the event.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 25 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle hesitated and the engine stalled. The vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was later towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs were aftermarket and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,371.

Engine light came on and then fuel warning light came on even though i had a least 1/2 tank of gas.filled up my gas tank, alllights were out.when i had approximately 1/2 tank again, the engine and fuel lights came on. I brought my car to my mechanic and was told the 2 fuel sensors need to be replaced at a cost of over $350.00.upon online researching, i learned that there are many others who are experiencing the same problem.i feel that because this is happening to other hyundai owners, it is a problem that hyundai needs to repair at no cost to the owner of these vehicles. In my case, i need to be reimburse the cost of the repair.

While slowing down, applying brakes to exit the highway into the cloverleaf off ramp, steering became very difficult and i was forced to continue in the current direction off the road into the grass. Upon stopping noticed dash lights were on and the vehicle had stalled. I was very lucky that i was headed into a grassy area and not into a wall as i couldn't steer in any other direction from when i lost power. Hyundai found no error codes and couldn't replicate the problem. Purchased used w/ 103k mi on it from a dealership.engine light came on at dealership - alternator and purge valve replaced - thought it was fixed.drove home and just before turning right into driveway and still on 55mph busy county road, engine shut off (all dash and console lights on and wipers running) right in the middle of the road.no steering or brakes.i had to coast to a stop on the side of the road.i put it in park, turned the key off and turned it right back on.was able to back up and pull into my driveway without incident.check engine light came back on as it was being taken back to the shop the next day - no sign of fix.i had just driven from the dealership service (about 25 miles) on a major interstate...a number of right and left turns, on and off ramps, stop lights, stop signs and residential roads.this could have been a fatal accident and this vehicle should be totaled out and sold for parts.hyundai should return our money - we will never buy another one.

My 2009 hyundai santa fe keeps randomly stalling out.this has happened at least a dozen times in the past year.this has happened while merging onto the freeway, while making turns onto busy streets during rush hour after being stopped at a light, making turns after decelerating, no particular pattern.there is also no warning whatsoever!when the engine stalls out, i lose my power steering, thus basically having minimal control of the vehicle.i took my car directly into the dealer after this happened twice in one day.i was told that they could not replicate the event.i was then told that they could try replacing the throttle body and that it may fix the problem, but they were not sure because they did find a problem.as i stated before, this has happened at least a dozen times in the past year.there is a problem.i do not feel safe driving my car many times because i do not know when it is going to stall.

Multiple failures of the valve cover gaskets on the 3.3 v6. Hyundai replaced twice under recalls. Gaskets have failed again and hyundai refuses to replace. Rear brake calipers are constantly locking up. Have been since new. Hyundai refuses to acknowledge that there is a serious safety concern with this.

2 issues - (1 )while turning, loses power steering momentarily, battery and seat belt lights come on temporarily (2) while driving straight at low speeds, car "bucks" as if transmission jammed or brakes locked up momentarily--both issues are intermittent, and may be unrelated--

The engine lights stays on when you fill the gas tank it still says empty when driving everything will shut off this is for the second time in less than a year

Upon take off from signal light, at about 10-15 miles an hour, vehicle engine had a total loss of power. At the time we were only able to coast to the side of the road. Turned key off. Waited a few minutes and then restarted engine and vehicle started up as if nothing happened. This is the second incident with this vehicle in the past 2 years. Online research reveals similar problems with hyundai vehicles along with no resolution from manufacturer.

I was driving my white hyundai santa fe limited, 3.3l, 6cyl suv home from work at approximately 4:30 pm eastern standard time. I was driving on the expressway at 70 mph when the engine suddenly shuts down and i lose steering control and brakes, veering onto a narrow shoulder and into a slope that sent my suv into a swamp ditch, submerging the suv up past the floorboards. My insurance claim specialist notified me that the vehicle was a total loss, and paid a claim payout and settlement far less than the amount still owed on the vehicle.it is my opinion that a cyber-attack signal sent to the suv's engine immobilizer switch, shut down the engine without warning, electronically. This can be accomplished from any hand held device, mobil phone, lap top computer, satellite feed, etc. All that is required is a vin number, and any signal to the engine immobilizer switch can shut down the engine dangerously at highway speeds.this has happened at lower speeds of 20mph, where i would just turn the ignition key, the suv would start the engine, and i would proceed. However, at highway speeds, i did not have this option.

Randomly hesitates and then stalls while driving.

Two times my car has stalled while driving, one at 10 mph and one at 20 mph.there are no signs that the car is going to stall.have no lights, brakes, steering, can't even use hazard lights.

The engine shut down on a slow speed exit and left me with no power steering or power brakes in a curve.the vehicle started up after i was able to stop and i continued on with no more issue.july 21, 2016 at 4:45pm.this has been the only time this has occurred in the 2 years i have owned it but its a concern.

I've taken my 2009 santa fe to the rick case roswell, ga on friday, 7/1/2016 and again today, 7/15/2016, both for the same issue, my car is stalling while i drive it. On 7/1 they told me it was the battery, so had a new one installed while there.both times, i'm been turning into a curve (it was a right hand turn on 7/1 and a left hand turn on 7/15). The first time i was lucky as it was just coming off a stop light. Last night, however, it was a curve to get on the highway with an 18 wheeler thundering behind me when my car stalled, and i lost the power steering and braking and almost became an 18 wheeler hood ornament.as i mentioned, the dealer is perplexed by the issue, nothing is showing up on the diagnostics and they can't replicate the problem. I had to leave the dealership with the sense that i'm driving around in a ticking time bomb. As a women who frequently drives by herself in the car, and on the highway 99.9% of the time, i can't tell you the fear that knowing that this can happen again at any moment and that the next time i may not be so lucky, instills in me.this is my second hyundai and i have always considered myself to be a proud hyundai owner, but i just did a little research and found out that a) not only am i far from the only person who has had this issue, b) there has actually been a class action law suit that hyundai lost regarding the frequent stalling of hyundai vehicles.i need hyundai to fix this issue asap or risk being sued by my family after i'm killed in a car accident that is the direct result of your stalling vehicles.

Vehicle stalled for no apparent reason. Took vehicle to hyundai dealer, they could find reason for the stalling. No codes checked.

After driving at highway speeds and decelerating, hyundai santa fe 2009 vehicle abruptly stalls with no warning. No error codes show. This is extremely dangerous as vehicle immediately shuts down and is an accident risk. All power steering and brake operation shut down.

First problem, gas gauge stopped working.fluctuated up and down, then would read empty right after filling the tank.had to have 2 sensors and fuel pump changed.very expensive!!now the car stalls when slowing down.every morning when i leave for work it stalls at least once, it has started back up, but this morning the motor felt very groggy and i did not feel safe in driving it anymore.took it home.i've brought it to mechanics and it never dies for them and they can not find anything wrong with it, did it two more times after that, taking it tonight to see if they can figure it out. This is extremely unsafe!!it died the first time in the middle of the street!i was so afraid someone was going to run into the back of me!this is a huge problem and all over the internet with other santa fe owners for this year.i want hyundai to step up to the plate and recall these cars!they are unsafe!!!

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled numerous times without warning while driving at various speeds. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure where a diagnostic was performed twice but the dealer was unable to generate a failure code.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 57,004.

I was on a return trip of 5 hours or so each way which i took at about 30,000 miles on the odometer, and noticed a very pronounced drop in power and acceleration capability quite suddenly. It was as if some wiring or hose had come loose under the hood. A few months later, when the problem had not changed at all in over 3000 miles of day-to-day driving, including a daily stint (to work) of maybe 12 miles each way on the freeway which entails accelerating up the on-ramp into the flow of traffic, i still could feel the difference in acceleration and response time while accelerating. When i took the santa fe in for a normal oil change, i reported to the dealer these symptoms, and asked to have it checked out. They changed the oil, and checked out the computer readouts for the vehicle, and said there were no problems detected by the computer at that time, but when this type of behavior on the vehicle occurred, it was most often due to the fuel filter being all clogged up, although that still might not be the problem.they quoted me a price of $270 to change the fuel filter, and after i asked if there was any coupon discount for this service ever thru their dealership, the service manager gave me a coupon book for a flat rate off depending upon how much was being paid for. (it amounted to maybe $25 off this service.)they did not have time that day to change it out, so i decided to check out both whether there had been any complaints, service reports, or recalls about this fuel filter, and that is what led me here to make this complaint about both the cost of this replacement and the poor prognosis of it solving the acceleration problem. I am going to check with a repair place i feel confident in about their cost to do this replacement.hopefully, it will be much less.

While exiting highway, decelerating but still going mid-range speed (about 40 mph), car stalled and all power was lost.could no longer control direction and almost slammed into median the first time (two days ago) and today, almost slammed into oncoming traffic.

After filling my gas tank, the fuel gauge on my 2009 santa fe would read empty and the low fuel light would illuminate. In addition, the "check engine" light came on. After driving a few miles the fuel gauge would fluctuate between empty and half full. The mechanic checked the onboard computer and the code said it was the fuel sensors. He replaced both of them, at a cost of $500, and it seems to have solved the problem.mileage was slightly under 100,000 miles.

While driving and making right turn engine stalled lost brakes and steering, was able to stop in middle of road with traffic coming up fast, put in park re-started. This second time within a year

Engine stalled at traffic lights with no brakes and no power steering.i am scared to think what would have happend driving at 55mph on freeway.

The vehicle looses all power. It also surges and stalls.

2009 hyundai santa fe limited with a 3.3 liter engine with approximately 53,500 mi.i was setting stopped on a city street with my foot on the brake when the engine suddenly started revving up as fast it could go (app 6k to 7k rpm's). It was all i could do to keep the vehicle from taking off and slamming into the vehicle in front of me. It was creeping along and tapped the truck in front of me when i got the vehicle in neutral and the engine suddenly slowed down. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer which not to my surprise cannot find anything wrong with it. After i talked to the owner of the dealership they contacted hyundai who is supposedly looking into it.not that i blame her my wife is very reluctant to drive it unless they can fix the problem.

The fuel gage is broken, it reads empty when full. The abs light came on and took it in to fix it.$400.00 later it was fixed. Now i hear clinking sound from engine. I think the pistons rings are bad. I've read other similar complaintsabout this vehicle.nhtsa needs to investigate!

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated while driving at approximately30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.

Check engine light came on and it would not go over 20 miles per hour. And had to towed to dealer and it come to be the same problem toyota is having with the gas pedals.

1st. Time; driving on i-75 engine shut down leaving completely no power, (brakes, a/c, steering or signals) 2nd. Time: 4/07/2012 engine shut down with same results 28000 miles. 3rd. Time; 03/03/2013 engine shut down again on i-75 causing car to have to pull over into median / started up after 15 minutes & was taking to hyundai dealer who still couldn't find the problem 37500 miles. 4th. & last incident; 08/25/2014; engine shut down leaving no powerin steering, a/c, brakes, windows or signals. Was able to get into target parking lot before turning off engine. Restarted vehicle 35 minutes later and drove to dealership who tightened battery cable connection & was told to monitor! am in the process of getting a new vehicle...

Fuel gauge is erratic, check engine light on, fails nj emissions, dealer will not fix a known issue!!!!

The contact owned a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the vehicle caught on fire and was destroyed. The fire department extinguished the fire and stated that the fire originated in the engine, but there was no determination of what caused the fire. The contact's insurance company and the manufacturer inspected the vehicle and determined that the fire was due to an electrical failure that may have originating in the computer system, battery, or fuse box. The failure and current mileages were 20,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was turned on there was a loud humming sound and a vibration in the engine compartment. The dealer was contacted and stated that everything was fine and that they also heard the sound. The dealer also stated that was typical for that size engine. There vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,800 and the current mileage was 14,700.

Had a flat tire on 2009 hyundai santa fe. Set brake and jacked the car up to remove flat tire.came back a couple of hours later to find that the jack had twisted and collapsed.luckily, no one was injured. But it was a pain to have to obtain a floor jack as nothing else was going to work.seems to me to be a dangerous type of failure.

Two times my car has stalled while driving, one at 10 mph and one at 20 mph.there are no signs that the car is going to stall.have no lights, brakes, steering, can't even use hazard lights.

The light emitted by the low beam headlights is so focused as to create a tunnel effect. This non-diffused light does not allow for any illumination other than straight ahead and no higher than the level of the headlamp. In conditions of total darkness, it is as if you are wearing a long brimmed cap and blinders. As you drive up or down a hill, the light shines "into" the rise or dip in the road. When going around a corner, the light does not "lead" the vehicle around the bend, it "lags" behind creating a dark zone as the car goes around the turn. When the bright lights are switched on, the tunnel effect disappears. Hyundai has said there is nothing wrong with the lamps or their adjustment. They contend that it is a design feature of these particular lamps and that they are effective. The vehicle is not safe to drive in the dark.

The range of vision on the low beams is sub-standard. Going up hills, they seem to shine into the middle of the hill as if their long range aim was down, not up. Going down a steep hill , they appear to shine on a horizontal plane - not down on the road. The high beams are fine, but it's very difficult to see using just the low beams. Hyundai says there is nothing wrong with the focus of the light emitted by the lamps or with their aim. However, they are not fit for nighttime driving.

When the door is opened, the front courtesy light will not come on due to a bad diode. The map lights will work. I understand this a common problem.

The headlights are so poor that we do not feel safe driving at night. On low beams, it almost seems as if the lights are turned off. On high beams, visibility is adequate but, of course, we cannot keep high beams on all the time. I called the dealer and they said they could replace the bulbs with new ones. However, they could not replace the bulbs with brighter ones such as leds.

Long break light in the back on top, falls out. Used special take to secure it

My address is [xxx]. My name is [xxx].the problem in my car is fuel level sensor when i drive in highway my fuel gauge is goes crazy their going up then down then warning light no fuel in tank but fuel is full that the problem in my car.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sante fe. The contact stated that when refueling to capacity, the low fuel warning light would illuminate and the fuel level gauge would shoe empty within 50 miles. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 86,000.

Fuel gauge is erratic, check engine light on, fails nj emissions, dealer will not fix a known issue!!!!

About 6 to 9 months after purchasing santa fe car stalled while driving down road with 1/4 tank of gas indicated. Gas was put in car and driven to dealership with car stalling a second timein route. Dealer said it was a faulty fuel sensor and it was replaced under warranty. Car stalled on interstate while going 70mph 3/2013 with 1/3 tank of gas showing. Upon adding gas car ran again. Waited a few months until car stalled again while driving around town with "plenty of gas."took it to dealership 7/2013 and they said it was a fluke and the fuel sensor was replaced again. Once again, 12/2013 car stalled on highway while traveling at 65 while gauge indicated 1/3 tank of gas. Filled with gas and car ran. Took it to dealer 12/2013 and they said it was just a fluke (seems to be party line) but this time they said the float in the fuel tank was getting hung up on something so was giving a false reading. Dealer said hose that got caught on float had been reconnected and should not cause any further problems. Driving around town two days ago with 1/4 tank of gas car stalled again. Have added gas but it is sputtering. Assume it will be another fluke!

While driving various speeds, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the fuel gauge displayed an incorrect reading. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel sender assembly and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000. Updated 01/05/2017*ct

I have 2009 santa fe. This happened first time in february 2014 that i was filling gas (i always do full) and as i started leaving the gas station my fuel gauge showed empty. I went back to the gas station and ask the attendant that there is a mistake, my tank is not full it is empty. But i was wrong, because he told me there is no way the pump machine will lie and he fills 100s of vehicle per day from each of his machine. Just to double check, the next filling i used a different gas station and it happened again. Now this has become routine and since my last two visit at pump, even the check engine light is coming on now. I have to wait few days and mileage to put on that the check engine will go off but the fuel gauge will still show less than half the tank.at this moment, i know my car and can predict with some degree of certainty about the mileage my car will provide but as the car ages and other things in the engine ages, it will become more difficult to predict the gas level. So i might be in trouble stranded on highway or in city during rush hour. Also i found online that this is not just my problem, many of other santa fe had similar issues. Therefore, i thought i should also share my experience here.

Fuel sensor failed and registered empty tank with low fuel warning light, check engine light activated.since then the fuel gauge has not operated correctly and the check engine remains lit.fault has been traced to fuel tank sensor which requires removal and replacement.

The vehicle looses all power. It also surges and stalls.

As with many other owners, we share the fuel sender sensor problem with our 2009 hyundai santa fe . The codes are for both the left and right sides, meaning both will have to be replaced.the fuel gauge empty light is always on, no matter how much gas is in the tank, and check engine light as well.quoted from $350 to $620 dollars from local repair shops.we failed nj inspection due to engine light, and this is a dangerous and costly problem, and we ran out of gas on the busy garden state parkway with our children in the car, incurring towing charges. It is certainly a safety issue that hyundai is avoiding.i have another 2009 hyundai (accent) with no problems, so it is safe to assume ( with so many complaints ) thatit is a santa fe problem. Please have hyundai look into this dangerous problem .thank you.

Fuel sender is defective, it is broken causing the fuel gauge to fail.this happens often to my model car, right after warranty period.

While driving down road, gas gauge went from full to empty and back again. Since that day, gauge moves every 5/10 minutes, daily. Have to set trip mileage after each fill up.

Faulty fuel sensor gauge.when trying to fill an empty tank the pump shuts off after only a couple of gallons.if i wasn't paying attention i would have thought it was full.i've seen complaints that the fuel gauge stops working on this car at similar mileage, if that happens too i won't know how much gas is in my car.i could then run out of gas while driving and lose power steering.this is an accident hazard.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the fuel gauge reading fluctuated continuously. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel sender assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,500.

Engine stalled at highway speed. Fuel pump failure.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While attempting to start the vehicle, there was a strong fuel oder emitting from the vehicle. In addition, the fuel gauge displayed incorrectly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump and gauge needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,500.

The check engine light came on as i was filling up my vehicle.once i filled it, i could not get it to start.took two to three tries to get the vehicle to turn over.i had the battery checked and my battery is good.my fuel gaugesits at empty for the first 100 miles after filling up with the low fuel indicator light on.i have had the car checked and was told it was told i had a problem with the fuel sensor.i had one replaced for $250 in 2014. Car worked fine.then after 500 miles, the same thing happened.when is hyundai going to realize that they have a serious issue with this vehicle! i can't even get a fair trade in value for the vehicle due to the problem.

Have had the same issue as others.fuel gauge isn't working, or works erratically.check engine light is intermittent.never know if the engine light is still on for fuel issue or something different, that could be considered dangerous.code returned as fuel sensor or sending unit. I now believe it has caused issues with my catalytic converter.what does it take for hyundai to step up to the plate??i will never buy this again.too many problems that no one can fix.i swear this car is haunted!

The check engine light comes on when you are around a half a tank of gas and even if you fill it up it takes it 2 or 3 times of starting it for it to go off. I'm not sure what is causing this. Also the esc and the abs lights have been on and won't go off. The book says the abs light is for service but i have has it serviced several time and it still doesn't go out.

I want to join the many others who have launched complaints on this and other websites about the faulty fuel gauge sensors of the 2009 santa fe. When i fill my gas tank, the fuel gauge only registers at half a tank and the low fuel light comes on. Now my check engine light is on. When i brought the vehicle to auto zohn to have the engine light checked, it does, indeed, come up as a faulty fuel level sensor. Hyundai is obviously aware of this problem as evidenced by all of the consumer feedback, yet it has failed to do anything to assist.unlike their counterparts at toyota, volkswagen and chrysler, it shouldn'ttake a tragedy for hyundai to step up and address this safety concern.

My gas gage started to work improperly. I took it to a mechanic i trust. He told me the fuel pump senders were bad. After he removed them he called me to tell me i was lucky my vehicle didn't catch fire or blow up! one sender has insulation broken and the wire is exposed. He also found that an internal wire was even worst. The protective connector was gone! that left those wires with no protection. They show signs of bad corrosion on both the wires and the terminals. They appear to maybe even have shorted out. They are black and a rust orange color. They are also pitted.i contacted hyundai. They didn't seem to care. They were more concerned that i hadn't brought my car to a dealer for over five years. I explained that two different dealerships here in miami had cheated me and treated me badly. The representative was trying to insist if i had brought my vehicle in they would have discovered the problem sooner. That is just not true. They only way to observe this problem was to physically remove the backseat and open the floor to expose the gas tank and then remove the pump! they will not do anything! i have the feeling that they won't even report this to their own company or to you.i still have the parts. They were also not interested in seeing them or pictures. They just don't care! what if my car caught fire? what if the fumes ignited? anyone in the backseat would have been either killed or injured!

My gas gauge showed a half tank one day then it showed empty then it showed empty/ the next day it would not start i new there was gas in it an hour later it started but after i was out it went back to empty.this problem needs to be fixed several people i meet in parking lots have the same problem. Are you waiting for someone to get in the rear when it shuts off and people get killed big law suits will happen iam sure it would cheaper to fix this then get sued.i see there are a lot complaints

Fuel gauge does not work properly.no matter how much gas is in tank it usually registers empty, and occasionally it will randomly fluctuate up and down.because of this issue the check engine light is always on.this happens while car is stationary or in motion.this is a known issue by hyundai.

Had about a half tank of gas and filled up before taking a road trip. Left station and noticed gauge did not move to full. Few miles down the road it started to slowly increase up to the fuel mark.after stopping again on down the road and restarting fuel gauge would show half tank then drop to empty and then back up to half tank. I have to keep getting gas and keep track of mileage so that i do not run out while on the interstate.from what i've read this is a very costly repair and is certainly a safety hazard as i travel a lot for work on the busy interstates and cannot chance running out of fuel

I have taken this vehicle to the dealership 11 times in the last 2 1/2 years trying to fix an issue where i randomly cannot put fuel in the car. The nozzles click off as if the tank is full, usually after pumping a few gallons. The dealership says they have replaced every single piece of the fuel system, but it continues to have issues and they're not sure why. Sometimes it works fine; sometimes pumping gas slowly helps and i'm able to fill up; sometimes nothing i do works and i have to drive off and try again another day. The check engine light has only come on once, with the first repair attempt in 2013. Since then, there are no warning lights, just the inability to pump gas. I've tracked mileage to make sure it's not just an issue with the fuel gauge showing as being emptier than it really is. Unless this suv is getting 60+ mpg, it's not the gauge. I generally start attempting to fill up when i get down to half a tank of gas, because i never know how much gas i'll be able to put into the vehicle at a time.

Starting on july 15, 2016, the check engine light (mil) came on, as well the fuel gauge incorrectly indicating the amount of fuel, in the fuel tank, at 107130 miles. I had the mil diagnosed as p0464, fuel sensor defect.many other hyundai santa fe owners, have reported this problem, requesting financial assistance to repair this significant safety problem, to hyundai customer service, to no avail. Their response has been it is not their concern and have not offered to provide financial assistance.if i were to be driving at highway speed, e.g., 55-75 mph, and have the engine shut down, due to lack of fuel, the power steering would be significantly impaired, with loss of control.this could lead to loss of control of my vehicle, with subsequent probability of an "accident", resulting in personal injury, resulting in death, to me and my family members, as well as others, as well as serious property damage.the cost for replacement of the fuel level sensors is approximately $600.00 to $800.00. This fuels sensor problem and mil, occurs when stationary, when the ignition switch is turned to start, as well as when in motion, at any speed.i believe that before some disastrous event occurs, hyundai should assist in the replacement of these defective fuel sensors.

Airbag light continuously on. Never had a problem before. Have been in an accident but cleared. Car was put back together and not on a salvage title. Fuel pump sensors are at fault. Need to replace fuel pump sensors. All fault codes appear when vehicle is not in motion.

Ck engin light comes on code p0464 not a ll uncommon.

The check engine light came on and fuel gauge went down to empty, even though i had a full tank.took to my mechanic and he said the check engine code indicated "p0464 - fuel level sensor 'a' ckt intermittent" problem. He informed me of his price, but recommended i go to a hyundai dealership first to see if covered under the 100k power train warranty. Took to local dealer on 11/10/14 and they said it wasn't covered or considered a recall, and it would cost over $800 to repair. My mechanic suggested i use a bottle or two of chevron techron fuel additive with my next fill up because it may clean the sending unit, as gasoline tends to coat the grid that contacts pass over causing the gage failure. A 20 oz and 12 oz bottle were added and shortly after, the check engine light went out and the fuel gage began to register properly again.this lasted about 2 months, but then the light came on again in january and gage went down when i started up the car one morning.i tried the same thing again with the techron, and it worked for about 1 month.the problem has occurred several more times lately but the gage problem is inconsistent.sometimes everything seems good then if i happen to accelerate quickly, everything goes haywire again.i don't want to keep paying for bottles of techron on every other fill-up or use premium gas (which didn't work btw), and i also think this problem is common enough on 2007-2009 santa fe's on internet postings that its time for hyundai to step upto fix this problem as a recall.some think it's not important because it hasn't caused a crash, fire, or accident resulting in injury or death, but if someone ignores it and runs out of gas on a major highway, in a tunnel (i go through one 2x per day), or another dangerous spot, it very well could cause a major accident or death.do the right thing hyundai and issue a recall for this issue!!

The light for my fuel tank came on saying empty, however i recalled just having put gas in the tank. A few days later the engine light began to come on. I took my car to autozone to test the engine light, i was told there was a problem with the fuel sensor. I later called hyundai after constantly having to watch my gas and mileage to make sure the tank does not run empty.hyundai advised it is possibly the fuel sending unit without even having to look at the car and advised it would cost about $800 to repair. The rep in the parts department stated they have had several calls regarding replacing the part. This could potentially be a serious issue, especially if you are driving on a busy road or highway. There seems to be several people having the same issue.

I noticed the fuel gauge was erratic and mostly incorrect. After a couple of weeks it quit working at all. Ive tried to reset the trip odometer and keep up with the amount of gas i should have in the tank.i gave out of gas on an interstate at 11pm in sub freezing weather. The dealership diagnosed the fuel sensor as the problem. I've noticed several hundreds of similar complaints here. The estimated fix is $500. Additionally there is a hissing sound from the tank when i stop to fill up. Upon filling the tank the engine will not crank initially. It apprears to be flooding the engine with gasoline. If im patient i will eventually get it cranked. When i pull off it shuts off. This continues as i intentionally drive around in the parking lot due to having this happen once after pulling out onto the highway almost caused an accident.i am a retiree on fixed income. The auto will not pass nc emissions inspection due this month until the check engine light goes off.

Once the gas gage reaches 1/4 full, it goes to empty.after filling with gas, it will take over 1 hour to record a full tank.cannot use the gage as we are never sure how much gas is in the tank.the engine light also appears and stays on until the gas sensor records full.

2009 hyundai santa fe experiencing wild fuel gage spikes, reads e when tank is full, then reads 1/2 full and is all over the map..hyundai is aware of the problem but has not indicated a recall..this item should be places on recall as it is a hazard, to the driver, occupants and others on the road.gauge could read full when it's actually empty resulting in traffic accidents..this issue also results in a check engine light trigger, causing failures at inspection.

Serious fuel gauge malfunction.gauge always reads empty, even after a fill up.gauge continues to read empty whether stationary, in motion, on a city street, turning braking, etc.i believe the cause of the safety risk is a failed fuel sender assembly, likely parts 94460-0w000 and 94430-0w000.this appears to be a widespread problem in the 2009 hyundai santa fe model.definitely a safety hazard, as i cannot tell how much fuel is in my tank while driving.another common issue with this make and model is a failure of the purge valve.this has also happened in my vehicle.this defect will prohibit the car from starting if you fill up a full tank.so, the driver is forced to fill up less than a full tank so that they can be confident that the car will start after putting gas in the vehicle.this is a less serious hazard than the fuel gauge, but worrisome nonetheless.

After fueling my car, the gas gauge immediately dropped to empty and the light would come on. While driving it would then slowly creep up to about 3/4 of a tank. At the half way mark, it would go up and down gradually so that i could never trust how much gas was truly in my tank, leading me to always want to refuel at the halfway mark. This happened continually in between fueling and never corrected itself.

I own a 2009 hyundai santa fe, the check engine light came on with odbii code p0464, fuel level sender(sensor) unit malfunction "intermittent operation". I normally repair my own vehicles and haverepaired cars for many years. The issue i have is that, only on rare occasions should these fuel tank parts go bad on a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles on it. I'm now seeing more and more complaints about these fuel tank issues, consider a recall for hyundai vehicles.

The fuel gauge sending unit is inoperative. Perusal of the internet shows it is a common problem with 2007-2013 hyundai santa fe vehicles. The fix is $ 500. Hyundai usa and hyundai worldwide h.q. Refuse to acknowledge that the problem exists or offer any repairs for the faulty unit or why indeed it failed. Try driving any distance without a gas gauge. The car is useless unless repaired. Manufacturers should either stand behind their vehicles or the public should be advised to look to a more reliable manufacturer for a better, safer and more reliable product.

Vehicle fuel system gauge inaccurate.after a fill up, the gas gauge would change from 3/4 full to empty, to 1/4 full, to 3/4 full to empty, regarldess of how much fuel was in the vehicle.check engine light intermittently comes on and off. This is clearly the most common safety complaint on nhtsa, and other internet complaint pages related to safety issues with the hyundai santa fe.several model years appear to be heavily affected.not knowing how much fuel the vehicle has is a major safety concern and could lead to accidents, injuries, and deaths.i'm having to pay for very expensive repairs because of this, and hyundai refuses to accept responsibility, even though their service folks acknowledge they see this often.this should be a recall, and all those who have paid for this costly repair should be reimbursed.

Both fuel level sensors went bad

Fuel gauge is not working and car is running out of gas even though indicator indicate there is gas. I had both fuel sensors replaced and the problem still continues. I have run out of gas multiple times and recently ran out of gas on an extremely dangerous stretch of 101. With two young children, this continues to be a major safety threat and concern for me. Based on some quick googling it's clear this is a major problem and security concern for other santa fe owners and it should be repaired or replaced under a recall.

Fuel level stopped working, check engine light came on. Mechanic said the code called for replacement of fuel level sensors. $500 repair and the problem was not corrected. I never know how much gas i have and i can never put more than 8 gallons in when i fuel up. But gas gauge will go up to have then drop to empty then go up to half a tank. Very horrific. Check engine light is on which will cause me to fail inspection.

Vehicle slowed without warning on freeway at freeway speed, then would not accelerate. Went to idle mode.before slowdown, had mild surging at speed. Problem was diagnosed at tps or throttle position sensor. Problem with same sensor reported to hyundai dealership previous, diagnosed as loose connection reported from periodic surging while driving. After recent problem with alternator, which required replacement of part, within one week, tps partially failed.failure was not diagnosed as kia dealership (sister company to hyundai) when underwent first repair.failure required hyundai dealership to be told exact problem, whereby they confirmed diagnosis.part required replacement with software updates. Part problem leading to failure should have been able to be diagnosed under first round of testing, and under first repair a week prior.parts unpredictable failure is believed to present a significant risk while vehicle is operating.

Car does not want to start after filling with gas. It does not matter if 5 or 15 gallons are put in.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While having the vehicle inspected, the inspection technician notified the contact that the vehicle failed due to the fuel sensor gauge. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 132,000. The vin was unavailable.

My fuel gauge is not working now the engine light has come one

The fuel gauge varies widely. It is difficult to know at times how much gas the car truly has. This seems to by a systemic problem with this vehicle.

Oil leak from valve cover gasket which has been fixed on two different occasions. And gas meter is not reading the correct level of gas.

Pulled into gas station with a hair under a 1/4 tank of gas, shut off engine and had the attendant fill the tank.after the fill was complete i started the car engine and the fuel gauge read "e" and the yellow light came on. I moved the car forward, backward and forward again and the gauge moved slightly off the "e". I drove home thegauge move to just under half. I turned the car off and when i started it this morning with the remote start the gauge read half a tank but when i put the key in and turned it the gauge went to "e" again and the yellow light was back.after about 10 minutes on my ride to work the gauge went to 1/4 tank and the light went off and so far today it has stayed there. By the looks of complaints on the internet it seems to be a problem hyundai has.

When the fuel gauge gets around half full, the gauge bounces around below the half full and empty. The check engine indicator light comes on and stays on. Cannot exactly determine how much fuel is left in tank. Had fuel sensing parts replaced at a cost of approximately $600 by a master ase certified technician. After repairs we filled the tank with fuel. Although tank was full it only registered 3/4 full with a range of 254 miles. Before this incident, the range was 320 - 324 miles. Returned to technician who alerted us that he has seen many similar problems with hyundais and kias. He believes hyundai should recall and fix problems. This attested to by similar problems listed on your site safer car.gov. My wife and i are in our 70s and are concerned we will run out of gas on a remote highway or engine will stall in traffic.

The fuel system light keeps coming on, i put gas in it but it keeps telling me that the truck is empty and it sometimes stalls. Then it i let it sit a day or 2, then thegas arrow starts to move up and down, i am scared to drive it, most of the time it doesn't show if i have gas or not.

Gas gauge does not register amount of gas that is in the tank.fill up tank and gaugeremains a empty or goes to full and the quickly moves to empty.many complaints about same issue with 2009 santa fe.safety issue because you never know how much gas you have and can very easily run out of gas on a major highway causing a major accident.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 10 mph, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge displayed an incorrect reading. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 52,000.

Fuel guage does not work properly. Fluctuatesgreatly causing potential safety issue if one were to run out of gas on the highway. Check engine light on after filling gas tank.

On several occasions while driving the car completely shuts off no steering no gas nothing quite dangerous and quite scary while the car is in motion on the street

Engine and fuel warning lights come on and off sporadically, and the gas gauge shows the tank is empty even after we filled it. This happens regardless of the amount of fuel in the gas tank, and it makes it impossible to know the actual amount of gasoline in the vehicle.we brought it to the dealer today and was told the 2 fuel sensors need to be replaced at a cost of $600.when we purchased the vehicle new we also purchased a maintenance program, but, of course, the fuel sensors are excluded from coverage.upon doing online research we learned there are many others who are experiencing this same problem.we feel that because this has happened to other hyundai owners it may be a problem that hyundai needs to repair at no cost to the owners of these vehicles.

This has happened multiple times over the past year and has increased in frequency the last 2 months.at random times, in town or on highway with varying speeds, the rpm will jump without me using any more pressure on the gas pedal, which causes the car to accelerate quickly and without warning.then, the rpm will go back down in the same manner just as quickly.

Fuel gauge became erratic and triggered check engine light to come on also it will fluctuate a little bit when it hits the 1/4 mark and the low fuel light will come on. It will go from 1/4 to empty can not tell how much fuel is in the tank. When i fill the tank it registers empty and the and the low fuel light indicator comes on. Starting the car again on the same day or the next day, the gage comes up again to the full or half way mark and the light goes out. The car stalls while in city traffic causing a dangerous situation another car could crash into me.

Filled up gas tank and a short time later gas gauge showed half tank.we paid particular attention to watching gauge and it randomly would go up and down.a few days later the check engine warning light came on.we went to our mechanic who checked for the reason for check engine light and the result was a code indicating that the fuel tank level sensor was working intermittently.this is a real problem as we're not sure at any time what the level of fuel is since it goes up and down. It is obvious in researching this problem that this is an ongoing issue.we love our santa fe but these types of issues will certainly weigh in on our car replacement decision.

After filling gas tank the fuel gauge went to empty and the check engine light came on. Bad fuel sensor

Vehicle fuel gauge is erratic. With a full tank of fuel the gauge sometimes reads empty with the low fuel light on. Other times it may read as half or anywhere in between. Probably defective fuel sending unit.

I'm experiencing a problem with the fuel sensor failing. The fuel gauge shows empty and then slowly rises to indicate i have fuel. Sometimes the fuel indicator light comes on after i've just filled up and stays on for a day or so. I called my dealer and they told me this is a common problem. They said at this time there's no recall out for this repair, but agreed that there should be. This can become a safety issue and could cause serious injuries to the driver as well as other vehicles on the road. I feel that hyundai should step up and that care of this faulty part.

Fuel gauge does not read properly will go from full to empty leading to running out of fuel while driving

Fuel gauge not working properly, it will go from showing there is gas in the tank to completely empty, then back to gas in the tank. This has lead to the check engine light coming on. I don't want to get stuck out in this cold weather with an empty tank due to a faulty fuel gauge

The fuel gauge fluctuates all the time. Sometimes i get a reading but most times it turns on the empty light . I have consulted several hyundai dealers mechanics and been told that this is a big and frequent problem. I have read of so many complaints , that i don't understand why there hasn't been a recall on said defect. .it is as you know virtually impossible and very expensive and dangerous for me to try to fix..i've ran out of gas several times and have been in harms way.

The fuel reading fluctuates continuously with incorrect readings sometimes it says empty when it's full or has a significant amount ofgas in it. Then the check engine light comes on.i took it to an auto care shop to have them use their computerized system to see why my check engine light is on. It showed the codes p0464 and p0463. This is the fuel sensor circuit and it is extremely dangerous because you could be driving and the gage suddenly reads empty and your car shuts down. If your on the highway and this happens your dead! this is happening to so many hyundai santa fe's yet no one is doing anything about it.this needs to be addressed asap or there will be extreme consequences!this happens when the vehicle is in motion when it's stationary and everytime you start the car! it is so dangerous and i'm afraid to drive my car now

Fuel sensor shows gas level erratically both on gauge and digital display, usually when fuel level is below 1/3 left in tank. Check engine light also then displays erratically. This happens only when vehicle is stopped in traffic or in parked position with engine on. Happens only ,so far, in stop and go traffic and not on the hwy. Has been occurring since may 2016 with 105,000 miles.

Gas gauge highly inaccurate. Fuel warning light goes on and check engine light also appears. Have to pull over as afraid to drive. Finally go to nearest gas station only to find out that gas tank was still half full. This has happened a number of times. Vehicle has only 60,000 miles.

Car lost power while in motion taking a turn and slowing down to a stop.started july 2015, once again in aug.now since oct, happens more regularly, sometimes twice a day.dealer looked at it twice.no codes, can't replicate so they don't know what's causing the problem.replaced tcs and did recall 9h292430 all with no luck.dealers next best guess is replacing throttle body.

Vehicle stalled in road, once on level ground exiting a parking lot going straight and in motion crossing traffic and about to turn left, once on slight decline in motion turning right. After sitting for a few minutes each time, car restarted.heavy gas smell in car. Fuel senders had both been replaced twice (second time right after first stall) but fuel gage still malfunctioning. Fuel level indication unreliable.

2009 hyundai santa festalls out/death trap, occasionally with no warning, seem to be when going up or down hills usually with quarter tank of gas approx.possibly when decelerating.we have replaced both fuel pumpsand it was ok for a while.the other day i was going down steep hill and it quit, i coasted to bottom and tried at least 10 times to restart.a death trap for people,i had cars flying up on me almost rear ending me even thou i had my emergencyflashers were on and my arm out the window flagging then around.i let car sit still a few minutes and it finally cracked.i started looking online for solutions but found many 2009 santa fe's have this problem. I called hyundai and no recall. I have already spend over $500 trying to repair this.i do see settlement against hyundai for this problem on other years. They seem to know it is a problem but are not fixing unless forced.please help.

Gas gage indication shows empty when the tank is full or empty. This happened with our 2008 santa fe too.

At approx 65000 miles of normal driving fuel gauge became erratic and unreliable. Guage reads anywhere from full to one eighth and fluctuates almost constantly regardless ofactual fuel level. Check engine light on produced error code p0464. This is a dangerous situation.

Check engine light came on may 28 2015, dealer advised fuel sensor/pump issue, repaired it $$$$june 5th same issue back at dealer, also will not start and fuel gauge acting up 33rd record of the same issue at ntsha for this 2009, over 100 for the cumulative years for the santa fe same issue

Check engine light came on. Fuel gauge read empty. I had just filled up a day or so prior. I took to my mechanic he said that it is the fuel sensor. So i fill up the car and reset my trip to 0 every time i fill up now. Otherwise i have no idea how much gas is in the car...the fuel gauge jumps around...sometimes it says half empty...sometimes it says low fuel light. This is a dangerous and expensive situation...the fuel sensors should not failing! i see that may other people are experiencing the same problem...although this first happened over the summer the problem is ongoing and apparently wide spread.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the fuel gauge failed to provide a proper reading and would fluctuate from full to empty after the tank was refueled. The contact mentioned that the vehicle stalled due to the failure. The failure was reported to the authorized dealer who stated that the contact was not included in a manufacturer recall and that the vehicle would need to be diagnosed to determine the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

After driving at highway speeds and decelerating, hyundai santa fe 2009 vehicle abruptly stalls with no warning. No error codes show. This is extremely dangerous as vehicle immediately shuts down and is an accident risk. All power steering and brake operation shut down.

Low fuel indicator light comes on and gas gauge reads empty after recent fill up, then it slowly rises to full, indicator light then goes out and check engine light comes on, about 20 miles later check engine light goes out and gas gauge responds correctly.this has happened several times, currently check engine light is off.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the fuel gauge failed to operate. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not provided. The failure mileage was 100,700.

About a month ago my engine light kept coming on and every time i filled the tank with gas the car wont start unless i keep the foot on the gas while turning the ignition key then i have to switch the gear to drive with a foot on the brake and one on the gas. I took it to the dealership and had to replace the purge valve and the purge hose. Not even a week i went to fill the tank andmy gauge dropped to empty and while i drive it starts to go up and down constantly it is hard to tell how much gas you have, i notice is very common on this make and model and year. This should be a recall since it is a safety hazard.

I was parking my car in a space at a local store.the car took off. Sudden acceleration.went forward probably a good 15 feet before i was able to stop.i also had to have both fuel tank sensors replaced.my gas gauge would not register properly.fluctuated up and down at random moments.cost me $364.51! seems to be a continuing problem.

Fuel gauge went up and down.ran out of gas going 70mph on turnpike it was harrowing.gauge says full and then empty right away.fuel sensors need replaced, check engine light is now showing.i notice many others with the same problem.mine couldve caused a bad accident.outrageously expensive and cost prohibitive to fix what i think is a safety issue.70,000 miles is not a lot for this to have happened.

After filling vehicle with fuel, fuel gauge showed tank empty and yellow light on dash shows fuel empty. Fuel gauge recovered to show 1/2 full, then displays erratic results. Online forums show defective fuel sensor with a large number of hyundai vehicles. There should be recall on this issue. Drivers may think they have sufficient fuel, to then have vehicle run out of gas in a dangerous driving environment.

"takata recall" my 2009 hyundai santa fe, at approximately 110 miles, developed a problem, which actually results in a serious/safety problem. The problem is with the fuel system fuel gauge displaying the correct amount of fuel available in the tank. I don't know if the problem is with the fuel pumps, or the fuel sensing units in the gas tanks, or with the wiring between the gas tank and the gas gauge, or with the gas gauge itself. It doesn't matter if the vehicle is stationary or moving nor if the vehicle is slanted at an angle. Quite often the problem results in the "check engine" light coming on.so far i've only run out of gas once, and since i was on the freeway this was a very serious safety issue as i lost both my steering and braking systems. Any more i stop for fuel after about 120 miles or so.my hyundai dealer has quoted my a price of around $3,000.00 (that's three thousand dollars) to fix the problem, and he said that they can't even guarantee that the problem won't reoccur. And he said that this is not included in the extended warranty which i purchased with the vehicle.this is an issue that "hyundai" should take care of !!!

Around 90,000 miles my fuel sensor started not working the check engine light will come on and the needle will go up and down as well as the digital miles left on trip, i bought an extended warranty when i purchased the vehicle, but it only lasted until 80,000 miles of course.the sensor barely works and when it does it only lasts for a little while.i have to keep track myself of how much gas is in the car.i have seen several complaints about this issue and recalls for much less.i do not think vehicle owners should have to pay to replace these sensors and/or fuel pumps when this is clearly a defect by hyundai.i will never purchase another hyundai again.

Only 85k miles on the hyundai used for normal driving.the fuel gauge/sensors have begun acting erratic.filled the gas tank and gauge showed full.very next morning gauge down to a quarter tank.purchased gas and only needed 3 gallons.fuel gauge all over the place and not measuring gas correctly.creates an unsafe condition as driver does not reliably know how much fuel is available.many issues like this according to posts on internet.hyundai has a systematic problem and should repair free of charge.

After filling the gas tank, the gas gauge read empty, along with the low-fuel warning light.after driving approximately 10 miles, the gauge then appeared to be functioning normally. The gauge continues to malfunction if the gas tank is filled.when the tank is below half full, the gauge will randomly read empty or half full.an internet search quickly revealed that many owners are experiencing this problem. I hope hyundai will initiate a safety recall too correct the issue.

Rpm jumped without driver increasing pedal pressure, causing sudden unintended acceleration. Dealership unable to identify issue. This is the second occurrence in the last couple months.

Fuel indicator gauge fluctuates severely and does not show correct level. Since the level is incorrect, and the warning indicator does not function, this can cause the vehicle to unexpectedly run out of fuel and shut down the engine while driving. This causes dangerous driving conditions. There are numerous complaints about this issue.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was showing an empty reading when the fuel tank was half full. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the fuel sensors were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 95,800 and the current mileage was 96,215.

All of a sudden the gas gauge does stopped reading fual properly.. I never know how much gas i have. On one occasion i was driving to work early in the morning the vehicle studdard i put on my hazard lights and had to maneuver quickly to avoid being hit in the rear. I found out i had run out of gas. Attached is a link with other owners with the same issue. It doesn't matter how much gas i put in iti do not get correct reading. If i put $30 worth of gas in my vehicle it will only read half full. I feel this is a danger because i never know when i run out of gas and being on the highway all of a sudden running out of gas is a safety issue. Gas gauge and light always on empty when tight after it is full of gas and loud humming sound from fuel pump. Stalled out in middle of intersection multiple times.

Check engine light coming on.had it checked out and it was the fuel level sensor.gas gauge not working properly now.i checked and there has been many more reports for this type of problem.company should fix this problem at little or no cost.

Check engine light is on and gas gauge shows empty even after filling up tank.the problem started at around 100,000 miles ( give or take) mechanic said it the fuel sensor on driver's side as per electronic reading.a recall must be issued for this dangerous defect. Its plain to see its a common issue. I already ran out of gas during my morning commute on nyc westside highway & fdr drive, i literally almost died the 1st time it happened.

Several months ago, the check engine light came on.i took the car to the dealer and while nothing was wrong with the engine, i needed to pay $1000 to repair the sensor because i needed my car emission inspected.in the last month, while on a road trip, the check engine light came on again and the car just lost power and stalled.when we restarted the car, the light was still on but went off the next day.since then, the check engine light comes on randomly and the fuel gauge jumps all over the place. It will indicate i have 88 miles to empty and then jump back up to 130. The check engine light will come on one day and be off the next.

While driving and making right turn engine stalled lost brakes and steering, was able to stop in middle of road with traffic coming up fast, put in park re-started. This second time within a year

Fuel light was on. Filled gas tank. Fuel light remained on and fuel gage did not rise to full. Check engine light came on. After driving 20+ miles the fuel gage rose but drops rapidly. The fuel light will go on and the check engine light goes on and off. Hyundai dealer says they know it is an issue but no recall has been issued. The danger arises if i fail to reset the mileage and should run out of gas without warning.

Fuel float in gas tank stuck therefore no fuel gage reading.

Fuel senders are failing.check engine light comes on and fuel gauge shows near empty even when vehicle has full tank.

The fuel indicator on our santa fe is only accurate for the first 1/4 of a tank, after that it indicates the tank is empty and the "check engine" light appears.we have to keep track of our mileage in order to know when we are low on fuel. Very annoying to have to do this. What if the "check engine" light is on for another reason?how will we know? this is an on-going problem with hyundai, who has not addressed the issue, and it will cost $300-$700 to repair! we are thinking of selling our santa fe but we know we can'tsell it with a "check engine" light on!hyundai should own up to this problem and recall their vehicles. We have owned 5 hyundai's in the past 15 years and this will make us reconsider ever buying another.

Filled up with gas and did some grocery shopping with my wife.after about 15 minutes, we started smelling strong fuel coming through air vents while driving around.got home and removed engine cover and spotted fuel seeping from the fuel rail above the fuel injectors.the fuel rail tube is made of plastic and had cracked.

Check engine light on for failed fuel level sensor. Gas gauge is erratic. When i start the car the gauge falls to empty. Never know exactly how much gas i have. Very costly to repair.

Filled fuel tank and began driving on highway.as usual checked gages and noticed fuel gage at 1/4 full.over time driving, needle on gage began to move up to point indicating approx. 3/4 full. Over balance of drive needle danced around the 3/4 full mark.i am reading numerous complaints from hyundai owners of same problem over several model years.it appears hyundai is denying a problem and has taken no steps to improve fuel level sensors and thus replacing with them with same is only band aide fix with potential of serious accident if vehicle does run out of gas on highway or crossing intersection.vey poor position of company and when shopping for new car i will consider another manufacturer.

Engine stalled at traffic lights with no brakes and no power steering.i am scared to think what would have happend driving at 55mph on freeway.

The check engine light and low fuel light come on even with a full tank of gas. I've received several estimates to have the fuel sensor replaced and it will cost anywhere from $600 to $700. This should be a recall considering the amount of people with the same problem and safety issues.

The engine lights stays on when you fill the gas tank it still says empty when driving everything will shut off this is for the second time in less than a year

The fuel gauge slowly oscillates between the (assumed) correct value and zero, often triggering the low-level light. It makes it impossible to be confident about how much gas you have in the vehicle. It doesn't matter if the vehicle is stationary, in motion, or what kind of driving condition you are in, or whether the engine is running or not. It seems to be a malfunction in the sensor or electronic controls. My local dealer said this is a common issue (~$400 to fix) but hyundai hasn't issued a recall because it's not a "safety issue". This is a safety issue as you are never sure whether it is correctly indicating a low fuel level or not... I worry about my 16 year old daughter driving by herself at night without knowing whether she has enough gas or not to make it home!if this is a known/common issue for this make/model it should be recalled and repaired by hyundai.

Like the other posted complaints, my 2009 santa fe is having fuel gauge issues. It never shows the correct level. I changed the fuel cap but this did nothing to solve the problem. My check engine light comes on because of this problem. The readout comes back: "fuel level sensor". This can be a dangerous situation and will prevent me from passing a state inspection.iuse my trip odometer to gauge where i am with fuel tank level. I have to set my trip to zero at every fill-up. At 144 miles i know i'm at 1/2 a tank roughly. This is an issue that hyundai is refusing to admit to so they can save money. Maybe this isn't an air bag, but, if i loan my car to my daughter and she runs out of fuel on a highway......i don't want to think about it. Force hyundai to fix this!

Both of the fuel gauges would drop down to empty wynfall while stationary. If i turn off my car then turn it back on it would stay empty even after being at the gas station. I do not know how much gas i have left in my car and has been on going problem and a safety issue

On march 24, 2010, my co-worker and i were in my 2009 hyundai santa fe when it suddenly accelerated. I pushed the brake to the floor and it would not slow down. I then put on the emergency brake. Both feet were extended to the floor holding these brakes down. The car did slow down but would not stop. I had to take a left turn across the highway (there was fortunately a break in the traffic), i put the car in park and turned off the engine. It made a very loud noise that lasted about 10 seconds or so. We jumped out of the car as if it were on fire. It's currently at the sheehy dealership in waldorf, md. We are awaiting their diagnosis.

Rpm jumped without driver increasing pedal pressure, causing sudden unintended acceleration. Dealership unable to identify issue. This is the second occurrence in the last couple months.

Upon entering the highway at 55 mph my 2009 hyundai santa fe took off and the gas paddle got stuck for 15 - 20 seconds even though it felt like a life time.i stumped on brake pedal and tried to pumped the brake pedal to no avail.the rpm on my car was registered at 6-7 and the engine was very loud.i got the car to stop by placing the transmission in the neutral position.i called the nearest dealer to my home to make an appointment and they were not able to duplicate the problem.so to them there was no problem with my vehicle.to me and my two daughters this experience is a nightmare and the car is unsafe to drive.since 2002 i bought 5 hyundai cars (2002 sonata, 2003 santa fe (daughter in law drives), 2004 santa fe (son drives), 2004 santa fe (daughter drives) and my car 2009 santa fe.as you can see from my multiple purchases i loved driving and owning hyundai santa fe's.i am very upset because we could have died!i am even more upset that hyundai will not stand behind their products and make excuses so they will not have to make repairs.the $$$ must be worth more than peoples lives.the hyundai dealer in north east philadelphia even had the nerve to blame me because he said not replicate the incident and it was not in the cars computer.shame on you hyundai, shame on you dealers.this is the last hyundai that i will ever own, i will no longer recommend any of your cars to anyone but i will share my story with them.you lost a customer and i will join any class action suit and i will call the tv stations to report this problem.i do not think that anyone should die before you fix the problem - what about you hyundai?peoples lives or $$$$$.i am planning on replacing the throttle position sensor and getting rid for the car.i do not want another near death experience.

I was driving on the highway and went to accelerate around another vehicle. The gas peddle was stuck full open even after letting off the gas. I made sure it was not the carpet holding the peddle down. The engine rpm's was revving very high also as the car kept accelerating out of control. After approximately 15-20 seconds the peddle released and everything was fine. The first occurrence was sep. 2012 and i've had a second occurrence on march 2013.

2 issues - (1 )while turning, loses power steering momentarily, battery and seat belt lights come on temporarily (2) while driving straight at low speeds, car "bucks" as if transmission jammed or brakes locked up momentarily--both issues are intermittent, and may be unrelated--

My wife and i were driving out to eat at a local restaurant. We were slowing down upon entering the parking lot. There was a loud bang and we lunged forward, like someone had hit us from behind. My wife had told me this had happened to her a few other times where she thought she hit someone or they had run into her. We took the car to the dealer and they said that they could not replicate the problem so there was nothing they could do for us. We then searched the internet and found that thousands of people seem to have the same problem with these wonderful cars! we spoke with the customer service department at hyundai and told them of our concern with the car and we did not feel safe driving the car. The woman then told my wife to trade the car if she did not feel safe. My wife said so you want me to get rid of a car and have someone else purchase the car when there is a known problem. Her reply was, "yes i think that is what you should do." it blows my mind to think that someone would rather put the lives of people in danger than to fix a problem that is widely known.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While decelerating down a hill, the vehicle downshifted into first gear without warning. The vehicle was placed in neutral and restarted. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to northtown hyundai (3675 sheridan dr, amherst, ny 14226, (716) 992-6536), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000. The consumer stated that the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably and pulled off to the side of the road and turned off.

My 2009 santa fe has been accelerating during stopping (around 20-30 miles)i brought it in to dealer and they took it for a test drive acknowledging that it did in fact surge while trying to stop. They did an "update" and gave it back to me telling me if it does it again bring it back. It not only continues to do this but whatever they did made the transmission switch hard. I'm taking it back today. In my opinion this is a safety issue and something should be done about it.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 70 mph with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. In addition, the contact mentioned that the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,880. Updated 02/12/16*lconsumer stated manufacturer agreed to pay for parts and to replace the brake switch. Had many sensor failures.updated 5/21/18

My wife was driving the car in a parking lot and initially was unable to get the shifter into drive after being in reverse. She finally got it into gear and drove home and i attempted to shift it into park after she arrived home but it remained in drive and then neutral and would not go into park. The shift lever froze in the wrong place where d is but the electronic dashboard showed it was in neutral and i was unable to get it into park, and using the release lever for the shifter didn't work either. I was forced to leave the vehicle in neutral and put on the parking brake.i couldn't remove the key because i couldn't get the vehicle in park. It was on a small incline but the brake held the car in my driveway. As a safety precaution, i put blocks in front of the tire to prevent it from rolling. Fortunately it happened in my driveway and not on a hill trying to park. This all happened in a very short time span. I felt this is a safety issue. I had the vehicle towed to my mechanic who found that the cable running to the transmission was binding due to corrosion causing the mechanical shifter to become out of sync with the electronic controls that control what gear the transmission is in. The vehicle has been driven mostly in new jersey and pennsylvania so it has been exposed to a lot of road salt in the winter time. I checked on line and some of the forums show this is a common complaint with older hyundais. My vehicle has around 140,000 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while completing a right turn, a grinding sound was emitted from the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic for diagnostic testing and was advised that the noise was coming from the transmission. The mechanic suggested taking the vehicle to the dealer. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and received confirmation that there was an issue with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 73,000.

Contact owned 2009 hyundai santa fe sport utility vehicle.at 2pm on july 7, 2017, driver experienced a sudden, uncommanded acceleration that caused a fatal crash that resulted in the death of the driver and two passengers.manufacturer was informed about the subject incident.hyundai is aware of a statistically significant number of unintended accelerations with this generation of vehicles. (hatci), said in a statement. 'it is no longer possible to have increasing engine power once the brake pedal is depressed by the driver. This adds a reassuring, incremental safeguard of control for hyundai drivers.' per consumer affairs, 'local police agency suggests that hyundai accelerated on its own before fatal crash'.special crash investigation.

I made a right turn onto my driveway using light acceleration (12 mph) to gently overcome the upward slope as i do normally.the car responded well.as i was pulling into my garage (the last 5-7 feet), i applied light pressure the accelerator to ease into my space and the car surged.during the surge, i applied as much force as i could slamming both feet (one on top of the other) on the brake, but the car responded too late.i had collided with the garage wall.there wasfront-end and dry-wall damage.after reviewing some reviews for my model car on edmunds.com, i realized the uncontrollable surge is a common complaint about this model suv, which does not seem to be addressed by the company or dealers.therefore, i have decided to file this complaint in hopes that hyundai will investigate this situation and figure out a way to remedy these surges and keep their customers safe.

My vehicle was in the stationary position or was supposed to be in park. I had pulled into my driveway, put my car into park and turned the engine off. Upon exiting my vehicle with groceries in hand my vehicle started rolling (thank god i was able to get out of the way) vehicle rolled out of my driveway, across the street and into my neighbor's driveway where it came to a stop. (thank god no one was injured during this) i started my vehicle to get it out of my neighbor's driveway and noticed that even though the shifter was in park,my dash showed that my car was in reverse! attached is a photo of my dash showing that it is in "reverse" but as you can clearly see my shift lever is in park

On march 11, 2011 i parked my 2009 hyundai santa fe in my driveway.as i was getting out of the vehicle it started to move.it dragged me down my driveway and as i was trying to get back into the vehicle i banged my right knee on thesteering wheel and it turned and went down a hill and hit a tree with me still hanging half out of the vehicle.i broke my right tibia bone. I also have never had a ticket or an accident before in life. Very scary. Did anyone else have a problem like this??

2009 hyundai santa fe accelerated on its own & could not be stopped until i put it in neutral & shut off the engine. This happened twice in two days. The first time this happened on the turnpike, the car accelerated to over 100mph before i put it in neutral but the rpms continued to rise until i shut down the engine. Applying the brakes did not help because the car was accelerating at too high a rate of speed. After turning off the engine, the car was difficult to steer & it was difficult to apply the brakes because of the loss of power to those systems causing an addition hazard.

On april 24,2010 i was unloading my 2009 hyundai santa fe in the driveway. When i got out of the suv and took my foot off the brake the suv rolled forward a few inches. I put my foot on the brake took it off and wiggled my body to see if it would hold.i exited the suv and spent the next 10 min, unloading it. When we were finished i decided to leave suv in driveway and opened the door to remove the key. I leaned in and grabbed the steering wheel and reached over to pull out the key.suddenly the suv started to roll down the driveway and dragged me with it.it threw me to the ground and rolled over my right foot and left knee area of my leg and kept on rolling into the middle of the street.

Upon trying to switch my daughter from her car seat to a booster seat we noticed out back seat seatbelts were frayed and damaged, later we found out it was do tofaulty seatbelt tentioners.

Driver and passenger front seat belt buckles have become very difficult to open. Hyundai dealership agreed that the seat belts should be replaced, however hyundai did not agree to paying for replacement. I believe that the seat belt buckles are defective and a safety hazard. I think that they are defective for having failed when the vehicle is still below 60,000 miles. I think that they are a safety hazard because if we were in an accident, i am not sure whether we could get out of the vehicle. Bbb would not take our case in arbitration since the vehicle is out of the 5 year auto manufacturer bump-to-bumper warranty. I believe that hyundai should reimburse us for the replacement of our seat belts.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact noticed the front drivers seat manual handle was touched by mistakeevery time the contact exit the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they advised the contact that the front passenger seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Vehicle was being driven and pulled in to driveway of home to a controlled stop by pressing the brake pedal. At which point, vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed through the closed garage door and proceeded at accelerating speed into garage and hit a wall (wooden beams and sheetrock walls) separating interior of garage and interior of kitchen area of home. Vehicle came to a stop against the wall with brake pedal continuously pressed down. When attempting to shift into park, it resisted and key also would not come out. Emergency brake was pressed at this time and after several failed attempts, vehicle finally was able to shift to park and key was able to come out to turn vehicle off. Vehicle caused damage to garage door and interior wall of home.

Rear brake caliber locked up, brakes overheated. Had to have both calibers replace.

While driving, driver's side rear wheel generating a screeching noise and a burning smell. Checked tire and both the tire and wheel rim were red hot. Took to hyundai dealer. Said calipers not sliding properly. They claim on santa fe's you have to bring them in for service (the calipers) every 10k or so, as the rear calipers have a tendency to freeze. I checked the internet, and there are numerous postings on hyundai santa fe owners having similar problems. Also an article in this week's hartford courant auto section of a consumer with a similar problem. If i had not pulled the car over and checked this out thoroughly, i could have had a blowout as the hot tire would have exploded. There may be a defect in santa fe calipers. A safety recall may be in order.

Rear left wheel had high pitch screeching sound at 50-55 mph tap the brakes and it would quit momentarily and then start screeching again. Stopped and checked wheel on right and left side. Right side was lukewarm to the touch and left wheel was too hot to keep hand on it. I took it to local mechanic and he showed me the pads on the left wheel and they was white from excessive heat because they were not released back from the rotor. Pads had to be pried out instead of normally coming out easy. Extremely rust corroded cleaned up all rust on pads and bracket and they work fine now. I drove santa fe about 60 miles and never heard it no more.

We have been complaining about the brakes on this car since we bought it.the brakes have been making noise when you depress the pedal.we were told by the dealer that it was the "breaking in" period.the brakes were making loud noises and not working correctly when we brought the vehicle in for service on sept 12, 2011.the rear brake pads were sticking to the rotors overheating the rotors.the pads and rotors had to be replaced.we just brought the vehicle in again for service and the indication is the all the brakes may need to be replaced.this is at 22,000 miles.there is a serious problem with the brakes in the car and the dealer can only explain that it is due to the hills in our town and that the brakes are no longer made of asbestos.i never replaced my brakes in other cars until i had between 35k & 45k miles and i have lived in this town for 30 years.i believe the "breaking in" period for the brakes is broken!hyundai should step up to the plate and correct the problem.there seems to be a many complaints about the rear brakes.

Brakes complexly failed while i was driving with brakes being pressed completelyto floor. I took it to a mechanic beside my home immediately . Both break lines wereleaking 'gushing' brake fluid. Hyundai recalled this same exact problem on their 2011 santa fe but when i notified hyundai of my brake failure they informed me that my vin number was not part of the recall. Also there were no warning lights on when this occurred ! i will upload an actual image of leaking brake lineswhen i return to the repair shop. Vehicle parts reference numbers per hyundaiare 58722d and 58718f. Repairs estimate is approximately $665

Car had a defective brake so it couldn't stop until it crashed into the light pole after pumped other car.

I was pulling into a parking space, stepped on the brake and the car speed up, crashing into a store front, breaking the glass window and knocking out some bricks.

There is a current recall for this make and model car to replace the brake lamp switch for safety reasons but it didn't include my vin for some reason, even though the exact same thing happened on my vehicle. The brake lamp switch was failing and needed to be replaced.i don't understand why the recall wouldn't be for my car as well as it's the same safety concern.

In addition, the contact mentioned that the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,880. Right rear break started to squeal when applied for slow down to stop. When starting to proceed it will dragfor a couple hundred feet and stop. Again when brake was applied, same thing started over. While checking on the computer about this problem, many others have complained of the same problem. I will bring back vehicle to dealer and see what there bull[xxx] answer will be. I will also be bringing this letter,as i have never gotten any recall notices of this. Suv has only 24,600 miles. Also just a added complaint the tires have worn down on inside edge as vehicle is for long straight trips mostly and have been rotated and balanced every 5,000 miles.

My 2009 hyundai santa fe 4d sport accelerated on its own while i was driving on a highway. I applied the break as hard as possible, and the vehicle would not stop or slow. Luckily, i didn't wreck. I was able to pull over onto the shoulder with my hazards on, put it in neutral, and turned the engine off. I had the vehicle towed to a hyundai dealership.

My 2009 santa fe would squeak while driving, but the noise stopped when brakes were depressed. At the dealership i was told that the rear brakes were hanging and the rotors were rusted. My car only had 26,627 miles. I have had many cars with a lot more mileage and never had this happen. This problem was not covered and the dealership did the following: machined rear rotors and lubricated slide rails, remachined rear rotors, removed and cleaned calipers and all hardware. This was on 10/4/2011. Fast forward to the end of july 2012 and my car is making noise when depressing brake. On 08/9/12 with only 37,843 (approx 10,000 miles later) the dealership told me that my rear brakes were shot and needed to be replaced. I am now finding that these cars have numerous complaints about rear brakes but none of it is covered. I also need new tires and from what i am reading about the rear brake problems this is also contributing to the wearing out of the tires. Hyundai needs to address these problems and since the 2011 santa fe has brake recalls, i feel that the earlier models with these problems should be taken care of and paid for by the manufacturer. Brakes are important and could potentially cause a bodily harm. This is not something that should be ignored.

When slowing down to make a turn the engine shuts off. Power steering and breaks are gone. The car will crank right back off but this us very dangerous. I'm not sure if weather is a factor but when it has happened which gas been multiple times, it has been in the 80's. Mechanics and dealership have not been able to find anything and no codes are recorded.

I was driving about 30 mph after driving about 6 miles at 55 mph and i heard a high pitched squeak. It changed when i applied the brakes. I later stopped and felt the wheels and the right rear was hot. Took the vehicle to the dealer and they determined it was brake pads that were corroded/stuck. They wanted $100 to fix the problem. I got the impression that this happens quite often. I think it is dangerous. In my opinion this could cause a fire. The brakes are not made to run this hot. It should also be covered under their 5 year/ 50,000 mile warranty and theyclaim it is not.

At 32,000 mile the rear driver's side wheel smelled hot, brake dust residue visible and squealing coming from this driver's side rear wheel. Found that the driver's side rear outsidebrake pad was worn down to metal.driver's side inside pad and passenger rear pads, both inside and out were fine with hardly any wear on them..hyundai dealer said it is normal for rear disc pad to wear this uneven and for caliper's to stick on causing this.i feel this is a defect in either design or quality of parts as other santa fe owners are also experiencing this at even lower mileage.dealer wants you to pay $60 to have your disc brakes cleaned and adjusted (what is there to adjust?)why do only hyundai santa fe brakes need this unheard of service?why is it only occurring on the driver's side for me and other owners?disc brakes should not act this way.

We were exiting a ramp off rt 75 in florida.our speed was about 30 mph.suddenly we loss power steering and braking and acceleration.we coasted to a stop.we turned off the ignition and restarted the car after about 2 minutes...everything returned to normal.it was the second such experience.the first was august 2013.the dealership replaced the throttle sensor at that time.this latest experience is the exact duplicate of the first.i am taking the car to the dealership tomorrow morning.

Vehicle has been owned for 35 months and has 25,968 miles.dealership refuses to repair/replace metal to metal contact of lr brakes under warranty.this is 2nd occurrence.1st occurrence was rr on 6/13/2011 @ 15,771 miles which was repaired under warranty.rotor turned and new brake pads installed.a rusty (defective mfgr) rattle clip which snaps into the caliper bracket causes brake pads to hang up or not retract after applying pressure and drag excessively causing premature brake pad wear/failure at half of normal pad life expectancy.this should be a class action case nationwide.make hyundai replace under warranty the defective rusty part to prevent premature brake wear and/or failure.rear disc brakes should easily last 50,000 miles or more.

While traveling i heard a high pitch squealing noise.unsure of what the noise was, i took the santa fe to my mechanic.he checked the brakes and showed me that the rear driver side brake housing did not move as freely as the others.his suggestion was to not drive more than about 2 hours at a time because there is the possibility of the brake system heating up and catching fire.since the tire is right by the gas tank, that tells me there is a significant safety hazard. Any fire near gasoline has the potential to... I have seen many similar complaints on line and feel this is a manufacturing defect.

2009 hyundai santa fe. Consumer writes in regards to rear brake pads being worn. *ldthe consumer stated the vehicle was bought from the dealer under the assumption that it was street legal and safe to drive. After 5 weeks, it was discovered that the rear brake pads were worn to 0% wear and the front brake pads were at 1% wear. This caused damage to the calipers, rotors, and pads.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the brakes failed due to corrosion. The failure occurred three times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician explained that due to the cold weather, the calipers and brackets corroded and jammed. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000. The vin was unavailable.

Rear brake pads are sticking due to known issue with hyundai. Parts are corroded causing rear pads to ride against rotors causing excessive wear and heat wheel/tires are running excessively hot and pads are wearing out within a few thousand miles. Dealer told customer of kit to replace problem but not covered under warranty.

I was pulling into the parking space in a parking structure.i was already pressing the brake and just began to press it a bit harder to stop the vehicle in the parking space.just as i gave the brake pedal a bit more pressure, my car sped forward, jumping a cement wheel stop in the parking space, crashing me into the wall of the parking structure. The force of hitting the wall threw the car backwards where the wheels got stuck between the wheel stop and the wall.hitting the wheel stop then sent my car back into the cement wall; rebounding off of the wall this second time, the car was propelled over the wheel stop and finally stopped moving.the cement wall was cracked and very precarious to those using the sidewalks underneath.my car has significant damage to the front end.two people on staff at the parking structure saw the entire thing and asked 'what happened?"one of the witnesses said he saw my brake lights on right before it sped up and flew into the wall.called hyundai and learned that there is a recall on my car.although this recall states that it is to replace some sort of brake light switch, the lady at hyundai said that this type of acceleration was listed as one of the problems caused by this 'switch' that has to be replaced.i told hyundai that i am now scared to drive my car until it is checked to fix any problems that are going on with the brakes/acceleration.they were so nice!they invited me to make an appointment at any dealership and have it inspected - at my cost.i just can't believe that they are so unconcerned.anyway, that is santa fe tale of woe.would appreciate help with dealing with hyundai to get this resolved; or at least have them check it out for no charge.

I had made a left hand turn and went to accelerate and the vehicle kept accelerating and the engine revved up, i tried to push the brake to slow the vehicle down and it would not slow down or stop. The engine revved up and finally after a few moments the gas pedal came unstuck. The car slowed down and i pulled over. Later that day my son drove the vehicle and it happened twice to him when he went to accelerate he said it just kept accelerating and he said he kept hitting the brakes until the care went back to normal. I did take it to the dealership where they said nothing was wrong with my vehicle. I did do a google search and it seems that other owners of the 2009 hyundai santa fe reported the same exact problem.

While turning the steering wheel of my suv to pull into a parking space in a large grocery store parking lot, the suv involuntarily accelerated forward at a great amount of speed.i applied the brake firmly, but the suv continued to speed forward into the parking space.my fear was that there was a car immediately in front of me that was parked facing in.i assumed that the only way i was going to stop was if i crashed head on with the car opposite me.fortunately, i had the brake almost to the floor of the suv when it finally lurched to a stop.i then called the dealership who sent a tow truck to pick up the vehicle.it has been at the dealership since approximately 4:30 p.m. On friday, december 17, 2010.the dealership said they would look at it today, monday, december 20.i have yet to hear from them this morning.

Lots of squealing from the car for over a month.brake pads needed to be replaced even though there is barely 16,000 miles on the car.the mechanic i took it to said one brake pad in particular was very worn out.this should not be happening to a car with this little mileage.

My rear brakes were making noise so i scheduled an appointment.the rear brake pads were sticking to the rotors overheating the rotors. Both the rear pads & rotors needed to be replaced. I could not understand why this happened so soon so i called the owner of the dealership. Owner said it was due to the hilly area where i lived.i have lived in the area for about 30 years so i asked why i never had to change my brakes on other new cars i had bought at the dealership until well after 30,000 miles.he had no answer.what a joke!the only conclusion that i can arrive at is that there is a defect and hyundai does not want to pay for it.this is my third hyundai and i have not had problems with the other models, a 2002 sonata and a 2010 elantra.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that she heard a squeaking noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle while driving. The contact also saw smoke coming from the rear end of the vehicle.the dealer performed a diagnostic test and stated that the rotors overheated because the rotors were not properly greased. The dealer replaced the rear brake pads and rotors. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and denied assistance with the repairs. The failure mileage was 20,773 and the current mileage was not available.updated 02/09/12*ljupdated 02/13/12

In cold weather (10-15 deg.) brakes are very soft/spongy. Need to depress brakes nearly to the floor before the vehicle will stop on dry pavement.after driving and pumping the brakes, they come back but not to normal condition.dealer has had the vehicle for 3 days and says there is nothing wrong.

When brake pedal is applied the vehicle does not stop right away.

When i first "tested" the car i mentioned to the sales person that i thought it was pulling to the right.he convinced me it wasn't.on 7/31/19 i purchased 4 new tires and had a wheel alignment.i took it back for adjustments to the alignment 3 times before the covid outbreak (twice before january).it is now majorly veering to the right and i have to keep it from going that way when driving.i don't drive far to work which is why it wasn't as much of a problem before.

2 issues - (1 )while turning, loses power steering momentarily, battery and seat belt lights come on temporarily (2) while driving straight at low speeds, car "bucks" as if transmission jammed or brakes locked up momentarily--both issues are intermittent, and may be unrelated--

On several occasions while driving the car completely shuts off no steering no gas nothing quite dangerous and quite scary while the car is in motion on the street

After routine inspection, engine cradle is rusted through and will not pass inspection.car has 54,000 miles.#1 cochran took pictures and submitted them to hyundai, said they never saw anything like this for a 2009 santa fe and thought hyundai would replace the subframe.hyundai declined replacement of subframe.hyundai has pictures that were taken by #1 cochran.

The paint on our vehicle keeps bubbling up and peeling off causing the exterior metal on the car to rust in those spots.this has been a recurring problem with the vehicle since 2012 and is occurring in multiple random spots on the vehicle.we have seen multiple other same make and model vehicles with this same problem.we called the local hyundai dealership who recommended a body shop to fix the paint issues.the owner of the body shop said it was such a reoccurring problem, he didn't need us to bring the car in for a quote, only tell him where the paint was bubbling and peeling and gave us a price over the phone.this has been an issue over time.we are not sure what is causing the problem, whether it is certain weather , road conditions or environment.

I was a passenger in my vehicle on the way to the license branch and was sitting still at a stop light, when a vehicle rear-ended my car.

At around 4:50 pm on august 11, 2015, my wife was driving our 2009 hyundai santa fe limited 2wd 4 door wagon north-bound on second avenue, through the intersection of second avenue and foothill boulevard in upland, california. While crossing the intersection the hyundai santa fe was struck by a car entering the intersection from the west. The impact to the hyundai santa fe by the other car was severe enough to cause the hyundai santa fe to be a total loss. Additionally, my wife suffered soft tissue injuries to her hip, shoulder, back and right temple (head).while the impact to the hyundai santa fe wagon was severe enough to cause the vehicle to be a total loss and cause injuries to my wife, none of the front or side impact air-bags deployed. The car is now in the possession of the automobile club of southern california (claim number 012002790. I took some pictures of the damage to the vehicles, which i can provide if requ

Entered horseshoe casino parking garage and turned into parking level. As i followed ford taurus, hyundaiengine changed from normal speed to a roaring acceleration in an instance. I couldn't brake it to a stop and it rammed the rear end of the taurus. Damage to the sante fe was limited to front bumper damage while the back end of the taurus was driven forward and torn up. My husband thought the cruise might have gone on; but, he decided the acceleration was too rapid for the cruise. He was in the passenger seat. We drove home without any further trouble.

Purchased car new garage kept well maintained at dealer. Had a recall in 2016 for frame corrosion. I brought car in and dealer rust proofed frame. Continued to have car servicedand completed all maintenance that dealer recommended. Some repairs very expensive like timing belt, water pump, idle pulley etc. Last month brought car in for transmission exchange and i was told the side rails of car are rusted thru and car is unsafe to drive. This vehicle was supposedly inspected every time car was serviced. Hyundai never said anything about rust getting worse. I would like your help holding them accountable. I was attempting to parallel park between two cars and as i was about to cut the wheel to the left to finish the park, my vehicle suddenly accelerated (without my doing) into the car behind me.i had no time to compensate and ultimately crushed the right headlight/frame of the car behind me.

Paint comes off the car in large pieces that, if raining, will stick to windshield of the car and the car behind you, while driving.this blocks the visibility out of the front of the windshield and causes wiper problems as the large pieces get stuck to them.again this will happen while driving in the rain.the large piece of paint will still come off during normal driving, but the safety concern is while driving in the rain.pieces as large as 1 inch by 1 inch are not uncommon, with the largest piece currently missing is about 8 inches by 8 inches.problem started happening over 2 years ago.when the pieces get stuck to the windshield, you have to pull over to remove them from both the windshield and wiper blades.this is also dangerous as we have had to pull over on a major freeway before to remove them from parts of the vehicle, namely the windshield and wipers.this problem again causes problems with visibility out of the front of the windshield of the car and possibly the car(s) behind you while driving in the rain.i don't believe that large pieces (sheets) of paint should be coming off of a car and sticking to a windshield of the affected car and cars around it, while driving in the rain.truly this is a safety issue.

My control arm and axle broke after the june 2017 undercarriage vehicle recall repair was completed because a hole was discovered because of corrosion. My vehicle was in motion when the axle broke apart from the ball joint

There has been numerous instances when my vehicle hasa full tank and during driving the gauge suddenly indicate an empty tank. The check engine lightcomes onon further investigation i have discovered that this is a common issue with this make vehicle.i am afraid of travelling i believe that this issue needs to be investigated as it could cause a safety issue for drivers who make the assumption that this is only a sensor problem and continue driving and suddenly stall in the middle of the road.

While driving on the highway the driver side visor fell out of the ceiling as if the wires were cut in half in the hole that held the visor in place. I did not have an accident due to the sudden event but i have barely been able to see while driving early in the mornings or late in the evenings when the sun is low in the sky and shining directly through the window.

This has happened on more than one occasion. My car will suddenly try to stop and then it will accelerate really fast. I am not commanding it to do so with my foot.it is very scary. Then my car will just go cold..the dash lights will all light up, blink on and off and then it leaves me stranded. I have to turn the vehicle off and sit there for a little before it will ignite again.it did this in the publix parking lot as i was pulling into a spot to park and i almost hit a person walking by.it is like somebody has control of my vehicle and is accelerating and braking.[xxx] [xxx] thank you for your attention to this matterinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle caught fire while parked in the driveway. Vehicle had not been driven for approximately 4 hours.

While driving the vehicle and turning onto a side street the engine shut off. There was no indication as to what happened, no check engine light and no error codes showed up. This is apparently a problem hyundai is aware of and there is a class action lawsuit pending however it only covers model years 2010-2012.

Doorpanels have become gooy, the vinyl/leather has become gooey and comes off on your hands, arms, clothing, etc. It is very strange and is not normal. Needs to be fixed but not by me.

Shifting cabel broke,while in gear,moving

While driving and making right turn engine stalled lost brakes and steering, was able to stop in middle of road with traffic coming up fast, put in park re-started. This second time within a year

On several occasions the fuel gauge is not registering that there is gas after having filled the tank to capacity.it is impossible to know if the car has gas or not.

My vehicle was taken for an oil change at etd service center on saturday, 9/19/2020.i then drove down the parkway for the weekend.i returned sunday night and noticed my oil light was blinking while stopped at a light.i returned to etd first thing monday morning 9/21/2020 who advised that "if it happened again, bring it to the dealer".today on 9/23/2020, the oil light was blinking again while stopped at a light and the vehicle was idling.there is no oil leaking.

I was a passenger in the vehicle when it crashed into a fire hydrant doing approximately 40mph. The seatbelt failed to lock and the airbags failed to deploy.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stopped accelerating suddenly. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technicians replaced the accelerator computer module. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

Driving my wife's car around 40 mph and for no reason the car started accelerating to a high rate of speed and i had to lay on the brake but when i took my foot off the brake it again started accelerating at a high rate of speed.i put the car in neutral and the engine was racing very high i shut the car off and started it again and it was back to normal.i am concerned that this will happen again.talked to hyundai service and they could not give me an answer.

I entered a limited access highway and began to accelerate to merge into traffic when the car began to accelerate wildly with no control over speed. I tried to brake the car but it kept accelerating. I put car in neutral and engine was over-revving frighteningly so i turned off the ignition.i felt the accelerator pedal come up off the floor and tap the sole of my right foot. At this point i was able to get to the shoulder and put on my 4 way flashers. I estimate my top speed to be about 75 mph during this incident. Fortunately i did not contact any other vehicles or objects. My wife was in the front passenger seat. After a few minutes,i restarted the car and it behaved normally. When i reached home i called the dealer and scheduled an appointment with the service department for the next business day.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 5 mph and entering a parking space, there was an unexpected increase in engine rpms as the vehicle abnormally accelerated rapidly. The contact applied the brakes immediately to avoid crashing into another vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 12,225. Updated 3/21/11 updated 04/28/11

I was leaving to go to work, my husband walked me out of our house saying goodbye, i was in my driveway, turned my wheel to go around our other car, when all of a sudden the santa fe forcefullyaccelerated (not by me hitting the gas on accident) hitting my husband throwing him to ground (which he is a sturdy guy) an then hitting my other car, it would not stop i had brake pedel down and put on emergency brake on put in reverse and yet nothing just going full force in the back of my other car. I even took my foot off the brake to make sure it was not the gas pedel. It was so scary i did not know if my husband was beening crushed between cars. I was so scared that my kids would come out and get ran over trying to help.i turned off the car (wish i would have thought of that sooner)and finally after pushing my other car at least 5 feet it finally started winding down and making a loud hissing sound. I found my husband lying on the ground thanking god i didnt kill him . I call the police to report what had happend, took pictures of all the damage that the santa fe did. We took the santa fe back to dealership still under warrenty just purchased 8 months ago only 63,000 miles on it, they said nothing wrong with the car did not want to hear about what happened. Only thing they said was powersteering line crush and whatever damage done from the incident, and tried to charge me $120.00. So now its at a hyundai dealership, but seems no one cares what happened.i am very concerned with this problem, where i work i park in a collage campus area with lots of people walking around all the time, i"m at my kids school at lease 8 times a week, what if this happens at the schools? so worried that they will say its okay nothing wrong,( which already heard that!)but next time might not be so lucky. Need help please!!!!

Purchased 2009 hyundai santa fe from herrnsteins hyundai of chillicothe, oh. In january 2010.on two separate occasions; once in march, and once in june on 315 columbus, ohio.the first time it over accelerated i was attempting to pass another vehicle.i accelerated to pass and then was attempting to slow back down when i heard the engine rev and felt the vehicle speed up.i do not and did not use the cruise control.the breaks only slowed the vehicle i could not get it stopped.i did manage to shift into neutral and as the engine continued to rev, i turned the vehicle off. Upon restarting it was ok.the second time i was accelerating to merge, upon completion of the merge i attempted to let off the accelerator and slow down.again the engine revved, and i felt the vehicle speeding up.i applied breaks forcefully like before the vehicle slowed a bit but sped back up i continued to break using both feet and the vehicle slowed and was then ok.we reported this to the dealership each time it occurred.their response was that it did not show a code.after the second event herrnsteins has shown concern and realizes their is a problem.however the hyuandi corp. Has taken the stance with us that they do not have a problem with sua in their vehicles and that ours is safe to drive. I suppose because i did not get killed or kill someone else that i can not prove it happened.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated while driving 3 mph at a stop light there was sudden acceleration up to 60 mph.the accelerator pedal extended to the floor. The brake pedal and the emergency brake were applied at the same time and the vehicle slowed down. After fifteen minutes the vehicle was driven to the contacts residence and then towed to the dealer. The vehicle was in the dealers possession when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 18,000.

I was attempting to parallel park between two cars and as i was about to cut the wheel to the left to finish the park, my vehicle suddenly accelerated (without my doing) into the car behind me.i had no time to compensate and ultimately crushed the right headlight/frame of the car behind me.

I was pulling into a parking space, stepped on the brake and the car speed up, crashing into a store front, breaking the glass window and knocking out some bricks.

The contact crashed into two parked vehicles before they were able to shift into neutral gear and stop the vehicle from accelerating. The contact didn't mention if there were any injuries. The vehicle was unable to be driven because of the way the wheel was turned and stuck. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and then to a body shop. The vehicle had not been inspected. The failure and current mileages were 22,000. Updated 07/21/11updated 07/22/11

I get acceleration problem in my hyundai santa fe 2009., whenever my car gets slow it see car it going by it self even thou my foot in my the break. It also gives my feeling that car is stops and go something like car is jerking off. I even see lot of other people having the same problem. In march 201, my wife got in to the accident because of the acceleration problem. But, we did not realize that at that time. And, my wife told me thatwas the problem but we did not believe it at that time. Now, we are facing more problems.dealers are not doing anything. They just told me that they don't see the problems. Can you guys really do something about this, before somebody gets killed or get in to the accidents.hope you consider our genuine complain about acceleration problem complain for hyundai santa fe 2009.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal traveled to the floor more than twice when depressed. In addition, the tachometer increased as the vehicle accelerated above 90 mph. The contact had to quickly place the vehicle in neutral to reduce the speed when the failure occurred. The dealer (huffines kia mckinney, 1201 n central expy, mckinney, tx 75070, (888) 450-2260) was notified, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

Stopped at red lite give the car gas andthe engine revs up and takes offhad to put it in neutral move to shoulder waited a few moments restarted car and everything was fine. Very unnerving hope it never happens again.2009 hyundai santa fei find out that this is called sudden unintended acceleration and i am not alone with this problem..happen with only 6700 miles on suv will be taking to dealer for 7500 mile checkup and want him to documentthis for my records on this suv.

Driving on highway, esc light & check engine light illuminated, car lost power. After approximately 2 minutes, car restarted and retained power for approximately one year.this year, the car has duplicated the same problem 4 times within a month, and when foot on brake in drive, the car surges so badly that at times i thought someone had bumped the rear of car.i took to dealer today and they replaced thethrottle position sensor under warranty.this was very much a safety concern , would often happen this year when vehicle was slowing, so that making a left turn put me in a dangerous situation.the replacement of the throttle sensor seems to have remedied the problem.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While traveling 55 mph, the contact attempted to accelerate and noticed that the pedal had become stuck to the floorboard, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably. In order to stop the failure the contact had to place her foot under the accelerator pedal and lift the pedal off of the floor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the failure could not be duplicated. The vin was not available. The current and failure mileages were 20,000.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai sante fe.while driving 35 mph, the contact stated that he applied pressure to the accelerator pedal an the pedal remained stuck in the open throttle position.the vehicle was towed to the dealer where they performed a diagnostic test but was unable to duplicate the failure.the manufacturer was aware of the failure and the contact was awaiting a response.the current and failure mileages was approximately 22,000.

This morning on my way to work, i accelerated to pass a vehicle making a left turn off the highway, and when i passed said vehicle and took my foot off the gas, it did not slow down.the pedal remained stuck to the floor and i had to force the brakes through the floor to get it to stop.it was still revving madly.i put the car in neutral and it sounded like it was going to explode it was revving so hard.i stomped on the accelerator pedal while in neutral, hard, 3 times and it popped back up and became unstuck.i am 4 months pregnant and am deathly afraid of driving this vehicle. This is the first time this has ever happened to me in this vehicle, but more testimony can be found @ http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f1f4e72/79.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe.while driving between 75-80 mph the vehicle began to accelerate without intention. Even after repeated brake application the vehicle would not decelerate. He had to shift the vehicle into neutral to decelerate.5 days prior to the failure the vehicle accelerated while driving between 25-35 mph in heavy traffic.there was not interference between the floor mat and the accelerator pedal.the technician have inspected the vehicle, but could not determine the cause of the failure. Thefailure mileage was 20,000.

I just had my 2009 santa fe start accelerating out of control. I was going towards a light and hit the gas hard. After speeding up, i let go of the accelerator and the car continued to accelerate. I had to hit the brakes to slow but as soon as i released the brake the acceleration continued. I went threw this process 3 times in a matter of seconds. So, i popped into neutral and the engine revved up wildly. I then braked and put it into drive. It returned to normal operation. I'm contacted the dealer right now.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck to the floor and was unable to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was carbon build up in the throttle body causing the throttle to stick. The manufacturer was not made aware of problem. The approximate failure mileage was 14,956.updated 8/12/14

Unexplained acceleration between 30 and 35 mph.there was no floor mat interference and could not duplicate the error today.this was the first occurrence.

On monday, august 22, as i was driving down pewaukee road, i decided to get in the left lane to pass a semi truck.suddenly i hear the car engine revving and the car's speed was accelerating.as there was a car directly in front of me and the semi truck to the right, i was pressing on the brake as hard as i possibly could.the car was hard to control and for a brief time i was in the on-coming traffic lane.all i could think of is get on a side road.the car would not react to the brakes.i turned onto a side road, aimed my car at a road sign and steel bollards on the side of the road so they could at least stop the car, threw the car in park and turned the key off (i am not sure in which order i did the last 2 steps).fortunately the car coasted to a stop.the engine was making a winding noise.hyundai roadside service picked up the car.their service manager indicates they can not replicate the problem.it was suggested i had the floor matt bunched up under the gas and brake pedals.give me a break!i'm not a complainer.this is the first time i have ever lodged a consumer complaint.but i was scared to death at the time and i am very hesitant about getting back in that car tonight (my husband is picking it up from arrow hyundai).i am not concerned about hurting myself -- i don't think i could ever get over it if i hurt someone else because of this car.so hyundai can't replicate the problem.did anyone think they would be able to?the question is what is hyundai doing about a problem that seems to be very documented on the internet.what is hyundai going to do when a sudden acceleration problem kills someone?hyundai did nothing for me.they initially seem very perplexed about such a problem.however, today when my husband arrived with a hand full of printed blogs all they wanted to say was they couldn't replicate the problem but would document the problem.i don't trust that they will so i am documenting the problem myself.

Unintended acceleration while turning on to a busy intersection, two other instances of unintended acceleration on city streets.have taken to dealership could not find problem.very leary of driving car.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While driving 10 mph into a parking spot, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated. As a result, the vehicle crashed against a building. The air bags deployed. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a broken wrist that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to camelback hyundai (1500 e camelback road, phoenix, az 85014) and was awaiting diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 3,600.

Our sunroof burst while driving on a clear, sunny day.our speed was about 40mph, the shade on the inside of the vehicle was closed as was the sunroof.we heard a loud "pop" and when we slid the interior shade open a shower of glass fell into the passenger compartment.

Sun roof exploded.no apparent reason. Stationary parked.

I was driving my car, between 20-25 mph, less than half a mile from my destination and i heard this very loud bang. It scared me, i thought it was a gun shot. I pulled over and something told me to slide my sunroof cover back, that's when i saw that my sunroof had shattered. There was nothing around to hit it, no cars, overpasses rocks, nothing. I got out and looked at the top and all of the glass was bowed upwards. It came from the inside, it exploded. I'd never heard of such. It was about 47 degrees when this happend. Now i'm soon to be out over 600 dollars in repairs for something at no fault of my own.

The windshield wipers failed to work on very cold winter days (all day, multiple days).

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 30 mph, the rear window defroster was activated and the entire rear windshield exploded, causing glass to shatter inside the vehicle. Prior to the failure, the vehicle remained parked for thirty minutes with the heater and defroster activated. The outside temperaure was 27 degrees. The contact scheduled an appointment with an independent mechanic who specialized in windshield replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai santa fe . While driving 40 mph the windshield was very difficult to see out of due to the glaze coming from the sun. The dealer was informed about the windshield and stated that they would polish the windshield in order to clean the outside. The contact also stated that it was still difficult to see out of the window while driving. There have been no windshield replacements. The failure mileage was 3097 and the current mileage was 10114.
