On day the air bag warning light came on on the vehicle and has never gone off. The dealer told me that the air bag control module had failed. The dealer told me the repair would cost $450!. I could not afford to spend that much money to have it fixed. I have already spent over $3000 on repairs for this vehicle and i cannot afford to put any more money it to. From the number of air bag complaints i have seen i think there should be a recall issued.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the driver side air bag erroneously deployed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that they could not diagnose the cause of failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 70,000.

2004 hyundai santa fe with air bag safety concerns customer states that the repair of the air bag warning light is on**ccthe consumer stated that a safety device should last longer than 69,000 and he should not have to bare the responsibility of paying for the repair.

Was on highway traveling at posted speed of 70mph when we were hit from behind by a dui driver. This made my car go into a spin and rollover 4 times. None of the airbags deployed. Car is total loss. I received dislocation of my collarbone that needed emergency surgery, concussion, fractured nose, lacerations to head and face, knee and hip injury.

While looking for a parking place, the air bag in the back of the driver side front seat spontaneously deployed, injuring my back and my left knee.my chiropractor got my back somewhat repaired, but my knee ended up having a meniscus tear that has not yet been repaired.hyundai is willing to replace what my insurance company paid out for medical care and to fix my car.i will be having medical issues for the rest of my life thanks to this air bag incident. I believe hyundai should pay for all future medical issues resulting from this incident but .... They investigated and are saying that the "computer shows an impact severe enough to cause the deployment" so they are willing to replace the seat and reimburse only the insurance company. They say future medical issues are my responsibility. I do not believe this should be this way.their product caused it, they should be responsible!

I purchased a used 2004 hyundai santa fe in aug/2005 from a hyundai dealership (# ). In aug/2006, the airbag light came on. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and the results were "code b1382 psab resistance high - resecure connector under the passenger seat/clear code". In feb/2008, the airbag sensor again appeared. The same technical code was detected, and the dealership resolution was to "reroute wire harness". In mar/2008, the airbag light again appeared and was serviced by the dealership. In nov/2008, the vehicle was again taken to the dealership due to the airbag light appearing. At the time of service in nov/2008, the vehicle was out of warranty. The dealership indicated they would not fix the airbag free of charge under the warranty, at which time, they were informed that a complaint would be filed under the california lemon law due to repeat fixes for the same issue. The dealership then fixed the issue.on nov. 26, 2008, the vehicle was hit in a high-speed rear end collision (~35mph) while at a stop light and pushed into an intersection, where it broadsided a moving vehicle. As a result of the impacts, the hyundai was totaled, all rear seated passengers sustained injury due to the spare tire being lifted from the initial impact and raising the 60/40 split rear seat and pushing it forward, the front passenger received chest contusions and the driver of the vehicle sustained upper body injuries. Despite being pushed forward and making a strong impact, the airbags failed to deploy. I requested hyundai investigate the matter, and they determined that although the front right of the vehicle was damaged from the secondary impact, it was not sufficient to warrant airbag deployment. I researched complaints from other hyundai owners regarding repeated airbag sensor light repairs and other airbag failures, including stories of crashes into poles with failed airbags. Hyundai has not issued any recall, but they probablyshould.

I was in a serious car accident back in december 7, 2005 with my 2004 hyundia sante fe. The car was totaled and scrapped thus i do not have the vin number handy.i do still have the paperwork from the hospital and the personal injury lawyer.the airbags did not deploy. I was the only person in the vehicle.i was driving home from work on my usual route on easton avenue. I'm told (reports from witnessess) a young girl came out of a side street and hit me in the rear drivers side which in turn spun my car into 2 other vehichles on the opposite side of the road i was travelling down. As stated earlier i have little recall since the impact knocked me unconscious. I suffered a broken nose (scar still there) and torn left shoulder- which still bother me daily.i was hit blindside and spin into 2 other vehicles- knocked unconscious.i still suffer nightmares resulting from this accident and am currently seeing a counselor specilizing in trauma and ptsd.

I was driving my car to pick up my son. I did not crash my car at all. All of sudden. My air bag light came on and wont shut off. I have contacted the warranty company and the dealership. There is nothing they can do.i brought my car to my mechanic he put it up to the computer it read resistance air bag. Its going to cost me a lot of money to get it fixed. My warranty was up a while ago. Its a safety issuse. I just don't have the money cause i just got the car 8 months ago. Already i put in 1,000 into it. I just got the foot module the brakes and now the air bag light is on. Can you please help me. There is also a problem weigh the suspension.

Airbag light came on. Diagnosed as faulty wiring. Dealer got it to go out, but if it comes back on again they say the entire passenger side airbag needs to be replaced. Dealer cannot say if the air bag will deploy in an accident and says that the manufacturer will not say either. Now, the light is out behind the heater control button.once again diagnosed as faulty wiring. Faulty wiring sounds like a factory problem to me.all services on this vehicle have been done since day one as recommended by the manufacturer.

Air bag light continually comes on, dealer must make repairs. When light is on, air bags do not function. The first time this happened, the service manager stated that this is a common problem with this model.

The airbag system stopped working without ever having been used in a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The airbag system is currently not functioning in the vehicle. The service provider stated the airbag will not deploy if we are in an accident and told us it would cost $1800.00 to fix it.

Air bag light onnoise when i start car

Air bag trouble indicator light stays on after starting engine. Questioned dealer, they are aware of known problem with driver seat air bag switch and wiring causing air bag indicator light to come. Hyundai will not make repair to this safety defect at their cost. Cost is well over $1000.00.

I was involved in an accident while driving down a city street in plano, texas. A truck pulled out to get into the middle lane and was caught off and forced to pull into my lane directly in front of me. My brakes locked up after trying to stop, which isn't a problem because i know it is normal. What occurred was that as i struck the truck in front of me, my air bags didn't deploy, and my seat belt had failed to lock. Which caused me to collide with the steering wheel. The speed i struck the truck, which was going about 10 mph when we collided, was about 45 mph.

My daughter was involved in a crash where air bags were not deployed

Air bag warning light would come on during the morning drive then shut off next time the car was started. On/off perodically for about a week. Now the air bag warning light is on all the time. A glimspe online hint simlar owners haveing the same problem and they are saying it has something to do with the wiring.

While driving on a straight stretch of highway, the driver's side (left side) side impact airbag deployed for no apparent reason.

Takata recall.just prior to a hyundai recall in 5/3/16 for a defective gas tank, my "air bag" light went off.let me back track . In 5/16, my car began leaking gas underneath.so badly, that one day while passing the fire/police station in norfolk, ma the fire chief and his crew began pursuing me.stopping me in my driveway, i was told about the leak and was told i would have to surrender my car, it was a "safety hazard to (all)."i presented a aaamembership card.the chief himself called and arranged a tow to a local repair shop.after 2 days, i received a letter from hyundai corporation stating that my "gas tank was faulty" and was subject to a "recall".imagine the timing on that?the national office of hyundai sounded just great on the phone.but when my mechanic said he would not touch the car for fear of complicating the warranty, no one including hyundai would send anyone to tow the car.at my personal peril, i drove to the nearest dealership.as i approached the reception area, all remaining gas gushed out of my car.i was given a beautiful current hyundai to drive as a loaner car;i needed that car for 2 months.when the dealership called to tell me my car was "ready", their advisorissued 2 pages of problems allegedly existing and tried to sell me a new car.i have since had someone else look at my car; none of those problems exist. When i picked up my car from the dealer, i also asked their advisor "why hyundai hadn't fixed the air bag light?" over the 2 mths they had my car.i was told that "hyundai didn't use takata air bags."however, numerous friends of mine driving other models of hyundai have received recalls citing the "takata airbag recall."my passenger air bag is defective.the dealer told me "the bag alone would cost $800.buy a new car!"what is going on here?

My air sbag light is always on. It won't turn off.i don't if it is a problem with my air bags or just the light.it has been this way for years.there was not reason for it to turn on. I've never had an accident,so i don't if it will work when needed. I don't think i should for it. I think this a malfunction and should checked by a dealer at no cost.

It don't work rite when i let the car warm up and then put my feet on the brakesit sound like it don't wanted to give gas i smell gas but i don't see any on the groundthe end take is all mess up the air bags do not go off it stay onand i keep everything up tothe car just don't act rite

The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileage was approximately 105,000. The vin was unavailable.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis who stated that everything appeared to be normal and no cause for failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. When i purchased the car as the second owner in march 2010, i noticed that the airbag light had been a problem from the previous owner.however, the dealer assured me that it was fixed.after purchasing the vehicle in 2010 and before i took ownership i had to leave it with the dealer as the airbag and seat belt lights were on.i have taken the vehicle back to the dealer at least three to four times for the same problems, however was told that there were different codes each time.was told that i needed to replace the seat belt buckle in order correct the airbag light, however, as of 4/3/12 was told by dealership (herb connolly hyundai) that in need to replace the airbag.also that the airbag was not under warranty and it usually has to be replaced at 60k miles.when i purchased my vehicle it had 81k miles, given this fact, they should have replaced the airbag prior to me purchasing it.the code that is showing now is b1346 (airbag has high resistance).dealer refuse to correct the problem at no cost after several attempts to get the problem resolved.

Air bag light stays on. Air bags will not deploy in an accident.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe.while driving 70 mph, the contact's vehicle was struck on the driver's side by a tractor trailer.the vehicle was destroyed and none of the air bags deployed.the failure mileage was 109,000.

My santa fe was taken in for service during which time the air bag light was activated. I had it checked by my local hyundai dealer and i was told that the air bag module had failed. I was told that the repair cost was going to be $450. I have already had to spend over $4000 for other repairs on this vehicle and i cannot afford to spend any more. I have read on the internet of numerous complaints of air bag module failures on many different models of hyundai's. Since there have been so many reports of the same problem and it is a safety issue i think that there should be a recall to repair the faulty air bag modules.

Air bag light comes on and stays on when the engine is started and running. Also, the seat belt does not retract every time when i exit the suv. I have had no accident or anything i know of that might have caused a problem with it.as i called them about it however, they say i must pay for the repairs. The vehicle has 82,000 miles on it. I am the second owner having purchased the car with 45,000 miles on it about 4 years ago. I have been on line and noticed there are a number of others that have experienced this same problem.

Today, 11/2816, right front passenger side air bag "deployed" for no reason.driving at about 55 mph.no impact or collision.seat ripped open.

Air bag light stay on constantly, and don't go off. I was riding and light pop on and stay on.

I took my car into my newlocal dealer wallace hyundai , stuart fl. My air bag lightstarted staying on all the time. At the time i brought it in, my vehicle was still covered under the bumper to bumper warranty. This dealer told me i had to pay $100.00 to inspectthe vehicle for the issue. I have never in the life of owning 2 hyundai sante fe's (this being my 2nd) did i ever have to pay up front for bumper to bumper issues. I am disabled and did not have the $100.00 so i left and then the warranty ran out, so my issue has never been taken care of. To this day, my airbag light is still on and i am concerned it will either deploy or not deploy at all in an accident. Updated 03/23/11

My air bags light is always on and will not turn off. The suspension is horrible, i took it to a mechanic and he said" there was nothing he could do. And sometimes when i turn my vehicle on the engine revels up and sounds as if the acceleration is stuck. Scares me to death.

The approximate failure mileage was 133,294.

I have a 2004 hyundai santa fe.12/9/06 my wife and daughter were involved in a accident were neither front air bags went off.the point of impact was the drivers front left.paramedics as well as myself were concerned that the air bags did not deploy.

Failure of driver's side frontal airbag to deploy on a 2004 hyundai santa fe.my wife was driving her santa fe on a two-lane country road in western pennsylvania.weather and road conditions were normal, with no ice, snow, or other slipping hazards on the road.as she rounded a curve a car was stopped directly in front of her and because her vision was obstructed by landscale along the road she could not see the other vehicle (a 1988 jeep truck) before she struck it.damage to the jeep was minimal (broken rear window and bent bumper), but damage to the front of her santa fe was extensive, estimated about $9,500.i called our local hyundai dealership in montgomery, alabama to urge them to contact the manufacturer about a potential airbag malfunction.i was told by the service department the failure of the airbag to deploy was not unusual because the airbag deployment sensors are located well back from the front of the car.given the severe damage to the car (the front is extensively crushed) and the pennsylvania state troopers observation that he was surprised the airbag did not deploy, hyundai should address this potential problem.

Dt: without warning the passenger side air bag deployed. Consumer did not hit anything or run into a hole. Consumer had no indication that anything was wrong.insurance adjuster said no sign of physical impact, appears to be mechanical or electrical malfunction.right side air bagappears to have deployed prematurely.dealer looked at it and told the consumer they could not touch it because of the manufacturer. Manufacturer said it was turned over to the legal department. Consumer has not heard back from manufacturer.

While traveling through an intersection at which i had the green light, another vehicle, traveling perpendicularly, ran the red light and my hyundai santa fe smashed right into the passenger side of that vehicle.my speed was approximately 25 mph, yet the air bag did not deploy.the entire front of my vehicle is smashed and the car may possibly be totaled (we are waiting for insurance claims adjusters to examine).our concern is that the airbags did not deploy on impact, as they should have.

My wife was driving on a little st. In fostoria, ohio on oct 16 at approx. 4 pm.herspeed was around 35 mph and the road conditions were good. She had a large vehicle on her driver side as this is a two lane highway. A blazer/bronco crossed from the oncoming lane attempting to turn on a side street (south union street, cutting right in front of our 2004 hyundai santa fe. The impact stopped her vehicle immediately and drove her car into a truck waiting to turn onto little street from the same side street. Although the accident caused a front end impact to our hyundai, the airbag in our hyundai did not deploy. My wife sustained injuries to her left collarbone and shoulder, and also to her right knee, requiring a trip to the emergency room and xrays. She was also unable to work for a short time due to her injuries.

I purchased a 2004 santa fe hyundai 8-25-04. On 9-3-04 i went out of town. About 75 mi from myhome,i was driving 65 mph on i-35 and the passenger seat air bag exploded in the car. Fortunately, no one was in the seat. I did not get hit by any car, i did not hit a chuck hole or any debrie that could have been seen on the hwy. I immediately called allen samuels service dept, talked to phil and he said he never heard of that happening and to bring it into the service dept on 9-7-04 which i did.they gave me a rental car; they said the seat air bag was on back order and they did not know when it would be availabe. I had my car there for 2 weeks.they called me on 9-20 and said this was not under warranty and to turn my rental in.i picked up my car at this time.the tech told me i must have hit a small object like a piece of wood and it hit the sensor.

We took our vehicle to gary rome holyoke for routine service and complaint of a air bag warning light on. We were told that it was a unit underneath the seat that was bad. They got the light to go off and we were told to sell or trade the car before the light came back on. We were told we were out of warranty,by less than 1000 miles and to replace this part would be in the $2000-$3000 range. They also said it was the side airbags and they were having problems with this part on other models as well. My wife was told the same by the manufacturer when she called.

I have documented 8 times that the electrical system has failed in my car - taken to dealer and they keep saying due to corrosion on wires but i find it hard to believe that every 3-4 mths that happens - i do not live near the beach. The car will be out of warranty end of this year and i feel the problem is not being solved.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at any speed, the speedometer dropped down to 0 mph.the speedometer picked back up between 2-5 minutes.the problem was getting progressively worse.the dealership was aware of the problem.sometimes the problem occurred 2-3 times a day.updated 10/17/2006 - this problem has been ongoing since the vehicle was purchased.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the accelerator position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 65,000.

Car stalls without warning while driving. First occurrence was over a year ago. I was driving down i5 going 70 mph when the car suddenly died. I lost my power steering and brakes. I managed to coast to the next exit. It started after sitting a few minutes. And i was able to make it home. I've received codes for camshaft sensor, misfires, low catalyst. I've changed the cam and crank sensors, coils, spark plugs, timing belt and assembly, fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump over the past year. Still having the issue. Car drives fantastic for about 10 miles and stalls out. After waiting about 5 min. It can be driven for another few miles before stalling out again. Check engine light does not turn on when it stalls now. Very dangerous when trying to drive in town or attempting to merge into traffic. You never know when it will stall out.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe.the contact stated that the vehicle would not start.the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the electronic control module was reprogrammed.approximately four months later the failure recurred and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the electronic control module was again reprogrammed.the following day while driving at approximately 55 mph the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where it was being examined for the cause of failure.the vehicle has not been serviced.the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 78,000.

Failure:gas gauge, acceleration issue, and seat belt sensor.

Dt: the end of january 2004 or beginning of february 2004 while in the car it shout off and steering wheel locked.about 30 seconds later the car just started up by itself.then, in april 2004 the car did this again while driving on the highway.got a recall 03v030000 notice on this vehiclewhich statedit would stallin cold damp weather, tookvehicle tto he dealer they fixedthe problem. .then in june 2004while driving in traffic on a sunshine day the car did samething.took it back to dealer, and they assuredconsumer that they fixed the problem. Early august the car stalledin an intersection.took back to dealer again, said they fixed it again.late august, two days after the i got the car back,k the car stalled again.also, sept 12, 2004 the car did this again.

Last night my mothers 2004 hyundai santa fe caught fire the car had been parked for hours, the keys were not in the car it was completely off. It made absolutely no since untill i done some research and seen the lawsuit for this same thing and i wondered why this model was not included. I also seen multiple people wondering the same thing about their 2004 hyundai santa fe. My father was the only one iat the house and in the house he could have lost his life and everything they own the only way he knew it was on fire was a neighbor saw and started screaming and started backing up to the vehicle to pull it away from the housea police report was made but what is she supposed to do for a vehicle? when no one even started the fire.

Engine cuts out while driving, unable to have power steering, car lurches without warning, usually when moving from a stop.

The first occurrence was tues. Oct. 21 backing out of a driveway and went to put the car in drive. It stalled right in the middle of a very busy road. I put it in park and tried to start it again. It did start but did not feel like it would continue to run. However, it did. The second time was yesterday when i was driving down a four lane road at 40 miles an hour and it just stopped running. I was so thankful it was later in the evening and traffic was very minimal. I put it in park and it did start but again did not feel like it would continue. It felt like it would stall again but did not, 2 more times before i got home. I called this morning to get it right in and never heard back. I am afraid to drive it because of the traffic on most of these roads. I do not feel like i was taken seriously even though i received a recall notice in sept. But have managed to misplace it. I do not remember what the recall was for. The second time this happened a panel light did come on. It was the malfunction indicator light. I am worried about an accident and possible death with this happening to the car.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 35 mph, the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that an error message displayed to call the dealer. The vehicle was driven to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that they need to replace the spo navigation system. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,389.

Airbag light came on. Diagnosed as faulty wiring. Dealer got it to go out, but if it comes back on again they say the entire passenger side airbag needs to be replaced. Dealer cannot say if the air bag will deploy in an accident and says that the manufacturer will not say either. Faulty wiring sounds like a factory problem to me.all services on this vehicle have been done since day one as recommended by the manufacturer.

After starting vehicle and while driving, engine shuts down immediately and without warning.was able to steer to the side of the street it as it was still rolling. No indications came on as to what the issue may point to. I shut the engine off and waited for a tow to my home which i total took about 45 minutes. Once at home the vehicle started with no issues. For the next two days my vehicle was at my mechanics and he could not reproduce the problem. I went ahead and had the transmission. Flushed as him and i had discussed as one of the last things to get serviced before winter. Later that day i drove a longer distance with top speed about 65 mph with no issues. Just as i was returning home the car shutdown as i was crossing a busy intersection. Luckily, again i was able to steer the rolling vehicle to the side of the road. I attempted to start a few times but after a not so pleasant sound left it off.after being completely off for 30 to 45 minutes the vehicle was able to start again. This time the check engine stayed on.my search on the issue points to a crankshaft protection sensor, but this is not a clear solution and a costly thing to fix if this does not resolve. I see many complaints on the issue with no definitive resolution for hyundai owners even by hyundai technicians as they troubleshoot the problem. This is a scary thing to have happen and some of the vehicle jerks are rather hard and violent. Before these shutdowns become deadly please address. My last experience was 10/18 my vehicle is at my mechanic today.

On 9/13/2011, in san juan, pr, at approximately 4:00 p.m., my mother (74 years old) was driving her 2004 hyundai santa fe at a very slow rate of speed on a wet concrete road.while approaching a red light, and while still far away from it, she applied her vehicle's brakes with no avail.the vehicle continue moving forward and stop only after hitting a car waiting for the light to change green.that impact caused this vehicle (v-1) to move forward and hit another vehicle (v-2) which was also waiting for the light to changed.my mother received a heavy impact force to her chest, shoulders, and neck area produced not only by impacting the vehicles in front of her but also because her vehicle's air bags were deployed.her santa fe was also badly damaged.

I have a 2004 hyundia santa fe and the engine started withloud knocking sounds in my driveway.i had it toll to avondale earnhardt hyundia's dealership.the diagostic was "found engine knockcan be heard at bottom end of engine.failure in rod bearings is causing excessive noise in bottom end.engine required" replacement.the car has 125,000 miles which exceeds the 100,000 powertrain warranty.however, my engine failure is the same as the current"engine failure recalls (theta ii engines) caused by manufacturing processes.except the 2004 hyundia santa fe was not included on the recall list.i spoke and submitted twice a compliant to hyundia customer care department to replace my engine and was denied an engine replacement.i have been without a car since november 20, 2020.today, customer care department notified me by phone of the second rejection.i am an elderly woman and retired, so finances are limited.i feel that the engine should be replaced because that the "fair thing to do".the engine should not have failed so early in its life-cycle.i would appreciate your review and a solution to this problem.perhaps a recall on my vehicle.

Car shuts off while driving, losing power steering and brakes, while traveling at highway speed or braking down a windy canyon road. Problem includes intermittent jerking, jumping, hiccupping - whatever you want to call it, it's not safe to drive. First month, after brand-new ny dealership purchase, i replaced my throttle position sensor 3 times. Trouble with my current problem began at 4 years, well under 30,000 miles. For a year i had to fear for my life every time i drove, never knowing if this trip would kill me or other motorists. Why did i have to drive it? because the hyundai dealerships in los angeles couldn't diagnose the problem if they couldn't cause it to happen and there is no error code when tested. A year of fear. Just the hesitation jerking is scary enough while driving, but when it actually shuts down? when your rpm indicator drops from 2,000 to 0 and you're fighting for your life turning the stuck steering wheel and pulling up the emergency brake hoping you don't careen off a winding cliff or coast head on into unsuspecting traffic or clicking your hazards on and praying no one hits you on an oily rain slick pavement at night on the 101 freeway - that is when it really makes your heart jump out of your chest. After 11 months of shutting off, it got so bad it wouldn't turn on again and finally my check engine light came on and they were able to diagnose the crank shaft sensor. In the process of fixing, they made a leak in my power steering hose and damaged my pump. Because it was days after my warranty, the van nuys dealership charged me for the crank shaft sensor and other damage! 33,000 miles on my car. Well, that was november 2009. It's now 2015 (70,540 miles) and once again, i'm okayed to drive my unsafe car. The performance of these vehicles put drivers at an unreasonable risk of accident and since there is no error code, hyundai will do nothing.

This vehicle was driven approx. 1/2 mile from home when power steering and brakes failed. It was pulled off of the road and stopped with the emergency brake. Immediately flames shot up the windshield. The entire interior was completely destroyed as well 3/4 of the exterior.

I left my car parked in the parking garage at school. When i came back to my car at the end of the day, the car was on and running. I had my keys with me. It had somehow spontaneously turned on while i was away from it.

The vehicle accelerated to a high rate of speed when just touching the gas pedal. The brake must immediately be engaged to slow the car. Once the car is moving the accelerator works. While cruising the engine rpm surges forcing the brakes to be engaged.this is a dangerous situation in traffic. The previous owner said the vehicle has been doing this for years and she just lived with it. It is unsettling to have a vehicle surge whenever it wants.

2004 hyundai santa fe. Consumer writes in regards to engine surging issue. *ld the consumer stated the failure would occur 2 to 4 times per month. The failure could not be duplicated.

2004 hyundai santa fe 2.7 liter engine, high idles at 3,000 rpm on start up and never goes down even when engine reaches normal operating temperature, automatic transmissionnot even acting right since this problem started, this is a hazard and can cause an accident. The car shows no engine codes, or transmissioncodes, it has had lower intake, upper intake gaskets changed, iac motor changed, throttle position sensor changed, temperature sensor changed, cleaned throttle body bore where throttle plate closes, changed vacuum hoses, made sure throttle cable and cruise control cable were binding or holding throttle open, and none off these things have helped. I have seen many complaints of this problem, many accidents that have occurred because of this problem, and have read a forum that said hyundai does not have a fail safe mode built into there computers like most cars do so this kind of situation does not occur. Vehicle still not fixed, and hyundai needs to recall this problem before there are any fatalities from neglect of a known problem.

As i approached a stop light and my car began to slow, it didn't shift all the way into first gear. While stopped at the light, it remained at a high rpm while the brake was pressed. When the light changed, and the gas pedal was pressed, my car "kicked" down into first and immediately back in to second. A few days later while at a stop light, my car died. After a few minutes, it started back up. After bringing it to the dealer (it had died on my three times at this point) to have it serviced, i was told that they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. They were able to "feel" the shifting issues when stopping but they couldn't tell me what was wrong with it. Since i've had my vehicle back from the shop, it has been having high idle surges where the resting idle rpm is at 2000, in addition, when the vehicle is in neutral it acts as if something is pushing the gas pedal while my foot is on the brake going back and forth between 800 and 2000 rpm. When the vehicle is in drive and my foot is on the brake, it also feels like my vehicle wants to get up and go (again like something is pushing on the gas pedal). I have taken my vehicle to two different places and both places can't pinpoint what is wrong with my vehicle. It's starting to become a safety concern. What if whatever is going on with my vehicle overrides the brake system and i end up hurting someone?

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. While driving at 55 mph, the gear shifter failed and the vehicle accelerated. The contact had to keep her foot on the brake pedal in order to avoid crashing. The check engine light illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road, turned off, and restarted the engine. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.updated 02/12/16*ljthe consumer stated the vehicle was repaired.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that this was the forth time they had to replace the oxygen sensor. The check engine light came on when the failure occurred and the vehicle overheated. During the last failure, the main circuit board on the vehicle burned and was replaced three times in the past two years. The failure mileage was not known, but the current mileage was 135000.

So many things going wrong back seat belts don't work, washer pump don't work tried to order part from dealer do not have any in us the camshaft sensor pigtail disintegrated from being to close to the engine and no one sells the part have to buy the complete engine wiring kit for one little plastic piece there should be a recall on this i read online that everyone with this car had the same problems.

When coming toa stop, theengine revved at a high rate. The consumer shut the vehicle off applied the parking brake to try and stop the engine from revving. Please provided additional information. Engine revved repeatedly despite brake being pressed all the way to the floor and car leaped forward with every surge at least 6 times.dealer could not find the problem. The consumer traded in the vehicle.*tc

The vehicle would cut off, the steering would then lock up and the vehicle would turn itself back on again.*sc

While driving at any speed the consumer felt the vehicle shaking.when the vehicle was being shifted from reverse to drive the consumer could feel the engine slipping.the dealer has examined the vehicle three times concerning the engine.the dealer found there is a component that is missing from the engine.the dealer did not explain what the component was that is needed.*sc

The driver's side coil spring broke on my 2004 hyundai santa fe at 40,000 miles. I was driving down a street and there was a loud explosion type sound, my vehicle actually felt like it jumped, all the dash lights came on and the engine died.i wrestled with the wheel to get the car over to the side of the road but i was still in the road.there was a woman in front of me getting out of her car with a toddler and i came close to hitting them as i tried to control my truck. I'm so glad i wasn't going faster than 10-15 mph. The repair agent said he'd never seen this happen at less than 100k+ miles, and it took out the brake line and fuel line on that side as well. Total cost will be $1500. As the timing belt also needs changing.not happy. I see many other complaints of this situation (coil spring going on hyundai santa fe at low mileage), but i don't see any kind of reparation offered by the company or any recall.there should be - this is not acceptable. I'm not likely to buy a hyundai again.w

Allstate found that there was 1)water pump failure2) some form of drive belt failure, and 3) the interference engine had parts collide within the engine leading to a fire.this occurred as my pregnant wife was driving down the road.hyundai is currently negotiating with me to reimburse me for the total loss.of course, they are not offering me what i lost on the investment at this point.the dealership was found to not be liable by the bbb; therefore i am communicating directly with representatives at hyundai motor co.i am very concerned about the safety of this vehicle, and i am curious about whether we are the only family that this has happened to.i can provide you with the 12 page insurance company report; i lack any knowledge of engines and how they work, but it appears to me that this is an extreme danger to consumers.i believe this should be investigated further.since hyundai is willing to settle with me, it can only be recognized that they know this product was unsafe.i have filed a complaint with the nhtsa and numerous other sites.in fact, i have created my own blog:www.flaminghyundai.blogspot.com, which has links to 5 other blog pages describing my story.what is so crazy about all of this is you can find 50 stupid & petty things recalled at walmart everyday, but a vehicle catches fire and your told "it's an act of god."please feel free to contact me at anytime; i welcome your response.thank you.

Vehicle shuts off while driving.while driving it will stall and then take off.

Was driving on the freeway doing freeway speeds at 5:30 am going to work when my truck just shut down. Check engine light came on, i lost all power coasted about 300 feet, pulled off on left and engine died and would not restart. Come to find out, timing belt went bad, also had to replace the crank position sensor. I've got less than 75000 miles on this truck and am very upset that this is not covered on the warranty and that the parts they use to put these trucks together are so cheap!

My air bags light is always on and will not turn off. The suspension is horrible, i took it to a mechanic and he said" there was nothing he could do. And sometimes when i turn my vehicle on the engine revels up and sounds as if the acceleration is stuck. Scares me to death.

Dies in the middle if road! almost die. All the time!!!!!!dies in the middle if road! all the time!!!almost died.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated while driving at approximately 20 mph in heavy traffic, there was an abnormal increase in engine rpms and the vehicle stalled. In addition, the temperature gauge would fluctuate up and down as the failure occurred.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting further diagnostic of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,900 and the current mileage was 22,000.

I tried to start my 2004 santa fe but the engine would not turn over (it cranked fine so we knew it was not the battery).while it was being dragged onto the tow truck the driver's side front tire deflated.the wheel did not turn while being dragged up the truck ramp.the repair shop said that the front spring had snapped and triggered a kill switch to the fuel line which prevented the car from starting.i never heard any awful sounds while driving so thethe front driver's side coil spring must have snapped while parked in the driveway.the spring needs to be replaced, as does the tire.

My pregnant wife was driving down the highway.there was no accident.there were no warning signs before it was to late.wife saw smoke coming up from the engine of our 2004 hyundai santa fe (odo 24,000 miles). She pulled over to the curb.the vehicle had never done this before.my pregnant wife was pulled out of the burning vehicle by a passerby.wife suffered a contusion to her right cheek during this incident.she did not know the vehicle was on fire.she notified 911 who sent a fire truck and police officer.the vehicle exploded at least 3 times as she waited outside in the cold, frenzied by the disaster.the fire was so intense that the front wheels were melted.a policeman and 2 fire trucks responded to the blaze.the vehicle has been declared a total loss by allstate.reliable imports (springfield, mo.) would not even help us obtain a rental car.the safety features of this hyundai vehicle were proudly acclaimed by the car salesman and manager at the dealership. Both the manufacturer and the dealership have been unhelpful in helping us in any way.the vehicle was under a full bumper-to-bumper, new vehicle warranty.they will not accept responsibility for the fire, and do not offer to conduct their own investigation on the vehicle.hyundai and reliable imports show complete disinterest in the vehicle's spontaneous combustion, and show the world no concern over the fact that this may prove to be a non-isolated event.since then, reliable imports in springfield, missouri has fiendishly sent me an email reminder to have my vehicle service renewed. The insurance company and hyundai both failed to instruct me to file my complaint @ nhtsa.an attorney instructed me to file the complaint here.

Upon return from vacation, power steering was moaning, loss of fluid from under front of vehicle. Examination revealed loss due to fluid cooler line beneath radiator. Fluid was leaking onto the catalytic converter inches to the rear of the line. Examination revealed black staining on surface of converter due to skin temperature of approximately 1200 deg. Fix was to replace cooler line. This is potential cause of loss of steering control and/or vehicular fire.

While driving, the check engine light came on.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and the engine cylinder was found to be defective.vehicle came out of the factory with defective cylinders.it took 5 months for the engine light to come on.*tc

My husband and i purchased a 2004 hyundai santa fe in septmeber of this year (2004).2 months later, the engine blew.hyundai is offering only to replace the engine.however, their lack of customer service is appaling.no one returns my calls, i constantly have to follow up with them.we initally felt that a new comparable vehicle was more appropriate.they seem very unconcerned that the car died on a highway in the dark and that my husband and 6 month old son had no heat for an hour nor that they could have been involved in an accident when the engine died.safety of their customers should be the #1 priority.

I've owned 2 santa fe's in a row (2001 & 2004). Both had engine failures around 60,000 miles (both on freeway).the 2004 failed at night in the middle of the arizona desert- these both presented me with a very serious safety hazard. I was driving at 70 mph when the engine lost power and made a terrible noise.i end up getting towed over 150 miles to hyundai dealer. Small block failed and was replaced in both- hyundai covered the 2001 but only covered 35% of the 2004 (86 miles out of warranty).never buy hyundai's again!!!

Since the purchase of this santa fe in 04 there have been six times where the vehicle had been driven down the road and died.i have been scared for my and my son's life as this just happened on an interstate and if it wouldn't have happened before i wouldn't have known how to react but i barely pulled the car off the road.hyundai said the problem was unbalanced tire pressure...obviously they don't respect women.

Engine- defective short block enginecar is back in shop now for the 5th time for the same problem. Check engine light on, loud rattling noises coming from engine. Dealer informed me it's a defective factory engine. Brand new short block engine replaced twice and car now back in shop for same problem. No longer feel safe in this vehicle, as twice i had to be towed to dealer b/c of engine failure and i had my 2 yr old son with me. In reviewing this website, i see countless numerous and similar complaints! the engine is the heart of a car so how many new hearts is hyundai willing to put in this one car? it cost more to fix this problem than to just accept the loss and properly compensate me! repairs are as follows: new short block engine installed; return car same day b/c engine felt "loose"; told it was the sway bar links- installed same day; car still felt loose, next day check engine light on- car returned. This time told it was strut top needed to be replaced- done. Picked up car, 2 days later back in shop for same initial loud engine noise and check engine light on again. Told same problem with short block engine to be defective. Ordered brand new short block engine and replaced again! picked up car after repair and again, same day, brought the car back b/c check engine light on again! car presently still in shop and i'm forced to contact an attorney b/c the hyundai's consumer affairs states as long as the dealer keeps fixing the problem, they are not interested in offering me any compensation. How much more money are they willing to give this dealer before they realize this car is not worth another $6,500 repair bill?

Engine cuts out while driving, unable to have power steering, car lurches without warning, usually when moving from a stop.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the vehicle would not start. The contact would wait for several minutes before being able to restart the vehicle. The dealer was contacted and advised that the problem could be cause by the emission system. The contact did not take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The failure mileage was 85,500.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe.the contact heard a noise similar to liquid touching a hot surface.an independent mechanic confirmed that the air conditioner was leaking onto the pipes, the rack and pinion, and the fuel tank cover, which has also caused them to rust.the contact has an extended five year warranty; however, the dealer stated that they would only make repairs when the steering fails completely, which could result in a crash.she informed the dealer that a mechanic changed the fluids and stated that the crankshaft could have seized due to the rust and caused a loss in steering control.the mechanic performed regular maintenance checks per the mileage requirements.the transmission fluid, serpentine belt, timing belt, air conditioner belt, and power steering fluid were replaced in april of 2009.in march of 2009, the vehicle underwent frequent oil changes and tire replacements at the dealer.at that time, she was never informed of any rust being present.the independent mechanic confirmed that the rust occurred over time.the invoices for all repairs and maintenance work is available.the contact asked the dealer to speak with the mechanic for specific details, but was unsuccessful.she is familiar with themagnusen-mofact 1975 title 15, chapter 50 , sections 2301 -2312 of the u.s. Federal code, which authorizes her to have repairs performed by a repair facility other than the dealer.the current mileage was 61,000 and failure mileage was 60,000.

Air bag light onnoise when i start car

Noticed a strong smell of gas coming from car. Could see gas leaking from under car. The local hyundai dealer says the gas tank has corroded, and must be replaced. Contacted hyundai usa and was told the warranty on the gas tank had expired, and that i was not eligible for any assistance (tough luck).

After pulling into traffic, i lifted my foot from the accelerator when i reached my desired speed. However, the vehicle continued to accelerate. I applied the brake, and the engine continued to rev for 1 or 2 seconds. There was no accident on this occasion, but it was terrifying, and i had my child in the vehicle.

I arrived at work and two people mentioned that they smelled gasoline upon walking behind my car..never thought about it until i noticedtwo days later that i seemed to be going through alot of gas..i drive 6 miles from my home to work every day...i now smell gas in the driver side rear every day..was told to check if there was a recall on my tank or fuel line...do not know who to check with inregards to this problem..am a single mother of two boys so i would like to get this fixed..any help would be greatly appreciated.

A 2004 hyundai santa fe has developed a potential fire/explosion hazard which hyundai has ignored after i pointed it out.hyundai also refused to release to me the santa fe's "off road" capabilities.this car was purchased new.can you help me please?

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the driver was informed by someone driving nearby that the vehicle was leaking fuel. The vehicle was maneuvered onto the emergency lane and turned off. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the fuel pump assembly had fractured and was leaking fuel. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 60,000.

I purchased the car used on aug. 10, 2012. I went to gas station on aug. 12, 2012 to fill it up with gas, and had trouble starting it afterward. I have had the same problem everytime i have put gas in it since, and it does not make a difference which gas station i go to, i have the same trouble. I even tried to leave it running one time and it ended up dying and had trouble restarting. I have to push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there to start it and keep pumping the gas pedal as i pull away from the gas pump and for several seconds after i pull away it is still trying to die. I have filled up with gas about 5 times since i purchased the vehicle and every time i have had the same problem. The only time it has a problem starting is while i am sitting at the gas pump. Once i leave there, it starts fine everytime until i stop to get gas again. I am writing this on sept. 24, 2012.

Came home from vacation a found the contents of my fuel tank on the garage floor. Lucky there was no fire or explosion. I took it to the service garage and they informed me that the gas tank rusted through and along with the protective plates, all had to be replaced. Contacted hyundai but they were not helpful.

My hyundai santa fe was parked with engine idling when a fire occurred in the engine compartment.fire completely engulfed front of vehicle before fire department extinguished the blaze.vehicle is a total loss.cause of the fire not determined.vehicle received periodic service one month earlier.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that fuel was leaking from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the fuel tank was crack and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 97,000.

Was having winter tires put on my car when mehanic said had a gas tank leak...he said it was the 5th car of hyundai with the same problem that he saw...said he never saw a car this young (7yrs) with this problem...am a single mother with this car..i have had no other problems..i smell gasoline when i walk around this car and when i enter my car...please tell me there is help...i do not have money and i do not feel safe..please help me.

Gas tank leak near the exhaust system. Cause believed to be due to a design flaw. The bottom of tank was covered by a poly shell. The shell trapped moisture and salt, etc. Between bottom of metal tank and poly shell. This set up a corrosion environment and resulted in leak. New replacement tank from hyundai does not have the poly shell. Note: the vehicle has no rust and is in very good condition.

Brought vehicle in to shop for front end noise. Found needed front brakes, pads, rotor, caliper. Repaired the items.the shop also noticed and stated "has a fuel leak at the tank (should be a recall"). I don't find any recall here. Any suggestions? i'm not making a complaint, just need to know if this is a recall. Thank you.

No prior warnings or conditions existed prior to failure.the vehicle would not start and it was diagnosed by a fellow coworker to be the fuel pump.aaa was called to tow the vehicle , and upon arrival, put car in neutral to back it up in order to tow.immediately, the front driver tire when flat, and it was a result of the front strut assemblybreaking andcausing the coil spring to snap and pierce the front tire.it has been 6 days , and i was still without thevehicle which was only 3 1/2 years old with 65,000 miles.iwas told that nothing was covered by warranty and replacement partswerenot available.in order to get thevehicle fixed quickly i had to accept parts from a 2006 vehicle.

Everytime i refuel my 04 hyundai sante it will not start. It takes several minutes before it will stay running and i need to constantly give it gas. It does not matter if i leave the car running or not, if its running it shuts down. Also tried using different gas but same problem. I have googled this problem and several people have stated the same problem with the exact same make, model, year. This is a known problem and they should recall it to fix it.

Everytime i refuel my 04 hyundai sante fe it will not start. It takes several minutes before it will stay running and i need to constantly give it gas. It does not matter if i put in 2 gallons or i fill the tank.at least one time when i went to shut it off it kept running.i have googled this problem and several people have stated the same problem with the exact same make, model, year.

I smelled gas recently when opening and getting into my 2004 santa fe.i took it to a car repair shop.they inspected it and found rust holes in the gas tank which gas was leaking out of! i can't imagine the how terrible an event could have occurred if the leaking gas had exploded when i started the car or been close to an open flame with the car when it was leaking. I have owned many cars in my life and have never had a fuel tank rust out. I think the nhtsa needs to take a very close look at this problem and possibly issue a recall on the gas tanks of santa fes and other vehicles they manufacture that use the same gas tank.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that immediately after refueling the vehicle, it would suddenly stall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the purge valve and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

The vehicle had a strong sent of gasoline when parked.the vehicle was taken to the mechanic, i was informed that it was a gas leak and the gas tank had to be replaced.after the gas tank was replaced, the mechanic informed me that the tank had rusted and that was the reason for the leak.he showed me the gas tank and there was extensive rust on it.there was a plastic part under the tank that retained water and road salt and caused the tank to prematurely rust.there is no reason for a vehicle that is garaged and washed regularly to have a rusted out gas tank.clearly, there is a design flaw that allowed the plastic part under the tank to collect water and rust.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. While the vehicle was parked, there was an abnormal odor of fuel inside and outside the vehicle. The contact noticed fuel leaking and that the check engine indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (columbia hyundai, 10981 montgomery rd, cincinnati, oh 45249, (513) 489-2000) where it was diagnosed that the coil spring and fuel tank needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the vehicle was 15 years old and exceeded the mileage to be included in a recall. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 198,000.

There is a strong smell of gasoline coming from my vehicle - it consumes both the interior and the around the entire exterior of the vehicle. Looking at all of the complaints, this is not the first time this has happened. Why isn't there a recall?? hyundai - are you doing anything to help your customers?????

I bought the hyundai less than a year ago. A few months after i bought it, i started smelling gas. I took it to the shop, and was told the gas tank was leaking. After paying an exorbitant amount to replace it, it worked fine. Now less than a year later, i took the car into the shop for a routine inspection and was informed that my new gas tank is leaking and needs to be replaced. What's the problem, hyundai? this is ridiculous!

Complainthyundai motor america has admitted design/product defects with six years (2001-06) of their santa fe fuel tanks via an extended warranty notification issued 2016/q1.this complaint concerns hyundai's product liability and warranty, with understanding precedent has been established with other hyundai product defects and recall/warranty resolutions via the front spring coil corrosion recall in 'salt belt states'.desired resolutionhyundai motor america to provide warranty coverage for my specific vehicle per scope described within the extended warranty notification.i would simply like to have extended warranty service completed at my local hyundai dealership.

Vehicle fuel tank is rotted and leaking fuel. Call hyundai and they say its covered under extended warranty for 15 years or 150000 miles. I am over on mileage. They say not covered. What does mileage have to do with corrosion?

A strong odor of gasoline was noticeable upon entering my garage.further inspection revealed gas leaking from my '04 hyundai santa fe.the service station determined that a fuel tank and center heat shielding replacement was necessary as both were defective, leaking fuel, and posed a very high risk of danger.needless to say, i was stuck paying a very hefty bill to the repair center rather than worrying about blowing up myself, my passengers, or my house.i see that there have been other complaints about the same problem with this make and model of hyundai.

This was a recall for hundai santa fe vehicles from 2001-2006.for unknown reasons i was not aware of recall.it was for 15 years or 150 miles.it is a danger as my car leaks gas.i am at 135,000 miles.but my car is a 2004.i purchased the vehicle in the last 2 years.i believe the recall should extend till the repair is complete for the reasons as follows.1. It can explode. 2. It is a polluter 3. Hyundai acknowledges it as faulty equipment.4. Corporations must be resonsible or they are irresponsible.5.cars are expensive they must maintain as least minimum safety requirements.

I had my 2004 hyundai sante fe at the dealer's for the smell of gasoline in the vehicle and when walking behind the car.it was told there was a small leak in the gas tank due to rust.the vehicle is not 9.5 years old has approximately 82,000 miles on it - have regular service done on the vehicle.i have undercarriage of car washed after snow storms as i live in new england and know the salt from the roads can rust the car.i was quoted a price of $1,500 or more - "can't tell until we start taking things apart how much job will be".this evening went to go to the store for milk car started right up drove down hill and car started to buck and stopped.thank god for aaa - called for a tow and the tow truck driver attempted to start car - car starts but then stalls said there may be an air bubble in fuel line - could this have happened when dealer's service department checked for the leak.(i do not have the money to replace a gas tank when i don't know exactly how much the cost will be).has anyone else had this problem.the service person informed me my car was "old" i don't think 9.5 years with 81,000 miles a gas tank should rust????????especially when the car is taken care of.

When i put gas in my car it will not start afterward. First it started only when my car was turned off. When i left my car running it was ok. Now it turns off when my car is running also. The mechanic said, it may be a bad fuel pump, cost $350 to replace, but can't guarantee this will fix the issue. I see i am not the only one with this issue. Why is this not a recall?? i google it and there are so many people with same problem. Also with the car accelerating by itself. I thought i was crazy. I see now that others are having this problem as well. Everyone said i imagined it. Why is this not a recall?

My santa fe stay over nite, inside my garage and i notice very strong odor of gasoline every time i open my garage and after i look under, i spot a drop of gasoline on the passenger side between a plastic cover and the fuel tank, while is park over nite, while i am driving i am afraid that something happen, like people throwing cigarette but and cut my car on flame. After i read other people recent complaints i decide to stop using my santa fe, i think this is a defect from hyundai to create a fuel tank that holds water and salt between the tank and the cover.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe.the contact stated that he smelled a gasoline fuel odor while standing near the vehicle. Bought an used 2004 santa fe in august from a dealer.two weeks ago i started noticing a strong smell of gas around my vehicle and last week i began seeing a small discolored area on the cement in the garage. Mom checked my vehicle and found that the my fuel tank is leaking. The discoloration of the cement under my vehicle is in fact leaking gas. Tank is corroded and i will need a new tank installed.

It don't work rite when i let the car warm up and then put my feet on the brakesit sound like it don't wanted to give gas i smell gas but i don't see any on the groundthe end take is all mess up the air bags do not go off it stay onand i keep everything up tothe car just don't act rite

Whenever i get gas and which i dread ,once i fill up the tankor just put a few gallons and i turn the ignition it grinds like it is trying to start . Eventually it will turn overor i willhear a pop. I am afraidat some point with that pop that it willcatch on fire. This happens every time i fill the vehicle with gas. Could someone please let me know what the resolution is.

I brought the vehicle in for an oil change.the gentleman said that the fuel tank has a rust hole in it and is leaking fuel.this is caused by a plastic cover that retains salt and moisture and causes the tank to rust.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. While the vehicle was parked or being driven, there was a strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. In addition, there was fuel leaking from the rear of the vehicle. An independent mechanic stated that fuel was leaking from the seam of the fuel tank and the fuel tank needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,900.

The chrome plate on the passenger door handle on my 2004 hyundai santa fe has worn down and cracked.everytime the door handle is used that crack serves as a razor blade and cuts my passenger's hands.this crack is on the top of the door handle.after hearing about the recall of the 2002-2003 sonatas that are experiencing the same problem. I feel that this recall may need to be expanded to other hyundai vehicles that are experiencing this same problem.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the interior door handles were designed as chrome over plastic and the chrome fractured.. The failure was causing the edges to be exposed, which were extremely sharp. When the contact's attempted to exit the vehicle she cut her hand when she grabbed the door handle.the contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The failure and current mileage was 52,000. Updated 05/03/11*ljthe consumer stated the door handles were designed as chrome over a non-metallic substrate. Over time, the chrome cracked and curled up, thus forming razor sharp edges which could not be observed when the handle was in its normal position.updated 05.11.11

The chrome plate on the drivers door handle on my 2004 hyundai santa fe has cracked and split. Everytime i open the door to leave the car the handle slices my hand.it's as sharp as a razor blade.

Mainly the passenger side rear door and once in awhile the driver side rear door will lock automatically and the rest of the other doors remain unlocked.i can not get the door unlocked unless i use the electronic key.however, i have to first lock all the doors and unlock them for this to unlock.the door does not lock everytime, but it happens enough that i am very worried.luckily, there has only been a few "emergency" situations thati had to quickly get to my son and i was unable to get there because the door locked. He threw up one time and started choking, i had to go through the passenger side and hop the seat. Fortunately, iwas fast enough and he was ok.if i got into an accident i would not be able to get my son to safety because i could not get the door opened. I have 3 children at times in the car and a handy capped father who has to sit on that side.i am very concerned on the safety of my child and family members.i have brought this to the attention of the dealer ship i purchased my vehicle from sinceday one, on uncountable amount of times and i kept getting told, there is nothing they can do about this.i had know idea what to do as nobody was helpful.i wanted to buy a new car, but i can not afford it. My son got the "cars" movie for christmas and within it was this "brochure" and i found this site. Please help.

When you first start the car.then you put it in drive .the car jerks a bit before smoothing out.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle vibrated and the contact heard a popping noise. The contact crashed the vehicle into a telephone pole. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries to the neck, chest, and back that required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an impound lot. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

My oil changing place thought i had a power steering fluid leak, so i took it to the dealer to check.the real problem was the front right axle boot was leaking badly (covered by the power train warranty), but they found that the right and left control arm bushings had collapsed and the sensors were frozen in place.after they fixed these, the mechanic took it for a test drive, and during the test drive, the right front coil snapped.i am told that i must now replace both left and right front coils and have the car re-aligned.the coils should be on recall, as obviously there is a defect in the manufacturing.

Dear nhtsa - my santa fe had a malfunction at 65 mph that causes the car to abruptly slow down and run in only third gear. This is a huge distraction to the driver and could easily cause an accident. The codes are p0121 and p0733 which have to do with a throttle/accelerator position sensor and a third gear ratio mismatch.i believe the way this works is the accelerator position sensor sends a signal to the electronic throttle system module which activates an ets motor on the throttle body which opens/closes the throttle butterfly damper based on a computed error signal.upon researching this on hyundai forums it was very apparent that this malfunction is very common and very dangerous.i searched the current recalls and this is not one of the two recalls i could find for this vehicle.but in 50% of the cases i read about it appeared that either the accelerator sensor or throttle sensor is a common failure.i really think this should be investigated.there are also some other items that can cause these sensors to see this mismatch and give the engine/transmission the fault code which causes the car to either go into "limp" mode or single gear mode. Although both are at different speeds it basically limits the car to a maximum rpm and causes it to either run in one gear or not shift above a gear, for example 3rd gear into overdrive.this seems to be a common fault that is extremely dangerous when running at or near highway speeds due to the unexpected nature of the event and the speed change and noise it can cause thus surprising the driver which may cause them to stop or pull over unexpectedly.other malfunctions that can cause this are mass air flow sensor, fuel injector o-ring faulty and leaky intake manifolds among others.this serious issue that should be investigated and redesigned or repaired on these vehicles.

Problems with 2004 hyundai santa fe drive train.*mrwhen the vehicle was warmed up and the consumer attempted to shift gears, the vehiclejerked and when the vehicle was transitioned from park to drive the vehicle stuttered as if it lost power.after the vehicle was up and running, the problem went away.the dealer informed the consumer the problem was the transmission controller.the consumer asked if the transmission controller board could be replaced and the dealer replied that they could not just throw parts into the vehicle in hopes that would make it right since the problem could not be duplicated when the vehicle was test driven.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while in reverse, the vehicle accelerated erroneously. The contact stated that the failure occurred while shifting into drive. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

On purchase of my vehicle, hyundai sante fe, the car has had troubles.i have had it back to the dealer multiple times since i purchased the car with the same complaint.when starting the car and pulling out from a stopped position the car hesitates 3 to 4 times before driving smoothl.it feels like the car is bucking or hesitating....i have had it to the dealer atleast 5 times since it's purchase.they can not duplicate the problem.i have told them specifically how to get the car to do the problem however they do not follow my instructions.the car needs to be pulled out of the parked position with force. (as if pulling into a high traffic area out of a parking spot) it occurs more offen when the car is cold, but also makes the same hesitation if the car is warm.however, never after the intial engagement while driving.it does not happen while parked at stop light while the car is running.it occurs when initially turning the car on.this problem has not lead to an accident to date, however it could if not resolved.if pulling out into a high traffic area and the car does not engaged and get up to speed,i can see being hit by another car.

6/11/06: upon breaking off highway, vehicle made a crunching noise, then a hard screeching stop, proceeded to idle, make a hard stop. The vehicle wasn't recognizing gears, continuing to thrust the car into hard stops, jerking repeatedly as i tried to accelerate. Heading home, it happened again. The next day took it to our dealership. As soon as i putit in reverse, the problem occurred. They replaced the abs module, test drove it and said it was fixed.6/25: same problem (same distance: 75 miles). The dealership test drove, said they couldn't find problem.i told them to drive it some distance.service advisor drove it and nothing. They drove it again, duplicated the problem, recorded data. Called their tech line, unhooked rear coupler to see if that was it. They replaced the rear coupler, test drove it and said it was fixed. I questioned if it could be the transmission. Was told they couldn't replace things on a whim.10/26: problem occurred (same distance). Wife phoned service advisor,he told her the vehicle was fixed previously. Towed it to a nearby dealer. They checked the fluids, reset the computer, couldn't duplicate the problem. Since this time, the following has occurred:10/31: wrote a detailed letter and sent it to hyundai.11/04: letter was received.11/20: didn't hear back, i phoned hyundai.11/22: representative phoned (i was unavailable).11/27: spoke with rep; told to contact service manager to set up appt with a factory rep next time they are at dealership.11/28: sent email with letter to the service manager and hyundai, asking for a call back.11/29: received survey from hyundai, i responded unfavorably.12/06: received email from hyundai, again referring me to the service manager.this is a genuine a lack of service from our dealership and hyundai itself. Most importantly it's a safety concern. I ask you to consider this information. Please assist me in any way that you can.respectfully, brandan pierard.

We were behind a car going approximately 5 mph in a parking lot waiting for the car ahead of us to turn intoa lane and into a parking spot when our car - a hyundai 2004 santa fe - suddenly accelerated once and then again hitting the car in front of us, twice.after we hit the car the first time we tried to brake but even though he had his foot on the brake the car accelerated again.we reported the accident to the insurance companies - took the suv to the hyundai dealership - reporting the incident to them - they did some kind of a test and told us there was nothing wrong with the car.when the car is in neutral the rpms race high - and since that accident i had the car in reverse and it started to accelerate forward again. We looked on the in internet and there are many of these same complaints so why is hyundai denying this happens to the car?

We bought this vehicle 4/04 and ever since we drove it off the lot, brand new, it has had the problem of hesitation upon acceleration.we have taken it to our "service department" numerous times and they say that there isn't anything they can do to fix it as no code registers on their diagnostic machine.after reading about all of the other people with the same problem i am amazed that no one has done anything to force hyundai into resolving this issue.if no one has been injured in an accident because of a serious lack of power upon acceleration then it's only a matter of time.hopefully it won't be anything worse than an injury.this vehicle now has 26,000 miles on it and it has the same problem every day.it would also appear that it is common practice for employees in the "service dept." to deny any problem that can't be seen easily.this is my second santa fe and will definitely be the last.

The night i took delivery of the vehical i had electrical problems this was to be fix by dealership, well now 8/15/2004 there are more elec. Problems the fuses are blowing and the brakes are not stopping as should be.also the trasmission when appling the gas pulls to the right, and between 40/60 mphjecksing sensation to the vehicle.

Car shudders 3 times when go to drive after car has been off. Definite transmission problems, also, transmission does not engage correctly when trying to pass at low or high speeds. Only has 7500 miles, dealer can not find anything wrong. On doing research, found many complaints about santa fe transmissons.

Few weeks after the purchase of my santa fe, the car began to shudder during acceleration. I have been to the dealership twice for this problem. The first time they could not duplicate the problem. The second time they duplicated but they could not figure out what was wrong before the three day rental car rule. So they gave it back to me sayings it still is bad. We are currently waiting for the service sheet from that time.

I would like to first thank you for taking the time to review this letter. March of this year i purchased a 2004 hyundai sante fe. I was motivated to do this based on my prior experience, as a former owner, along with the coupled knowledge of hyundais improved warrantees. In the past i had no reason to bring a hyundai into the shop for repairs, other than for routine maintenance. The problem im having with my current vehicle is focused in the drive train, specifically the transmission. It has been going on for approximately 5000 miles. Initially i thought it was just a matter of breaking the car in, after which point things would start to work smoothly. The nature of the problem is as follows: when the vehicle gets warmed up the shifting, on occasion becomes jerky. Also when the vehicle is transitioned from park to drive, the initial takeoff stutters, as if the car is intermittently losing power. After the vehicle is up and running in drive, the problem goes away. It only occurs for the first 20 yards of initial takeoffs. The problems described above are intermittent. Knowing that the vehicle is covered under hyundais warrantee, i took it in to have it looked at. Prior to this, i spoke with one of the shops managers and described my problem. He indicated to me that it was probably the transmission controller. I asked him if he had seen this problem before and his reply was yes. After the mechanic road-tested my vehicle they came to me and said they could not duplicate the problem. I said, after i leave here its going to continue to exhibit the same problems, requiring a return visit. He replied, yes. I asked if they could replace the transmission controller board. They replied that they could not just throw parts at my car in an effort to make it right.

Customer resolution to warranty coverage on the 2004 santa fe due to obvious defect and/or inherent problem regarding the clutch assembly.*mrwhile driving the clutch snapped rendering the vehicle undrivable.the was no wringing of indication of a problem prior to this incident.the vehicle was taken to a local dealer who refuse to repair the vehicle under warranty because he believed the failure was due to improper use by the consumer.

Well my vehicle has experienced the abs issue that has been recalled on other 04 santa fes as well as the corrosion from road salt to the coil springs. They are corroded and have completely snapped. My car is within the years and model for those recalls but it is not included in that recall, but imy vehicle is having those exact issues addressed in the recall

Car shuts off while driving, losing power steering and brakes, while traveling at highway speed or braking down a windy canyon road. Thank you.

In addition, the stopping distance was extended and nearly struck another vehicle. The contact searched online for recalls and found nhtsa campaign number: 04v131000 (service brakes). The vehicle was not included in the recall notification. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall for his vin and recommended that the contact call his local dealer. The contact called the local dealer (schimmer ford lincoln hyundai of peru, 911 shooting park rd, peru, il, 61354, 815-224-4500) and was informed that there was no open recall on the vehicle. The dealer also stated that unless the manufacturer was going to reimburse their services, no further assistance would be provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 179,000.

In september 2015 i began to have issues with the anti-lock braking system. The anti-lock brakes engage with no notice. It can be perfectly dry outside and suddenly they connect and start grinding. It can happen at any time, even when the brakes are not applied, with no warning, but almost always when i'm slowing down to less than 5 miles an hour. I have contacted hyundai, but they claim there is no recall for this issue on this model, though there is a recall for this exact problem on other hyundai models. If the anti lock system engages suddenly at higher speeds (which it does) this could cause an accident.the problem is getting progressively worse and now happens every time i drive the vehicle.

While the vehicle was undergoing an alignment, the independent mechanic diagnosed that the front coil springs were rusted, fractured, and needed to be replaced. In addition, the abs warning indicator illuminated, there was an abnormal noise, and the vehicle was unstable when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to cautiously apply the brake pedal and, at times, depress the brake pedal with force to ensure that the vehicle would stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v435000 (suspension) and 04v131000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, the manufacturer issued three tsbs for the brakes and three tsbs for the suspension. Abs tcs tracking system turns out while driving

Usually when there are rainy conditons when i am attempting to inititate driving my vehicle, i have a problem with braking, the brakes will sound very loudly and experience excessive vibration and have extended stopping distance.in a few instances i almost hit other cars and the curb because the car would not stop.

Was pulling into parking lot of shopping mall, as i pulled into parking space i applied the abs brakes and they went all the way to the floor without stopping my vehicle. I then took my foot off the brake and applied it again, with the same results. Before i could use the emergency brake i struck the vehicle ahead of me.

Brake failure of my 2004 hyundai, santa fe.the car had 1,940 miles on it at the time of the incident. I braked, to stop behind a car that was stopped for another car turning left. The brake pedal went to the floor and my car rolled into the stopped car. Hyundai is denying there is anything wrong with the car!i have been without a car for a month now (without a rental car due to the fact they can find nothing wrong) and they tell me, to pursue the cause of the failure, will take up to two months. One of the three dealer mechanics that looked at the car told me they hadthis happen before (brake failure, and could find nothing wrong then either). After checking the nhtsa website, i find 4 other brake failure complaints similar to mine since october 8th of 2003, with hyundai denying there is any problem with the cars. I believe there is definitely a problem with this many incidents in such a short time frame(how many have not been reported to your website?).*la

The 1st -dec. 23 2004.my husband and i was traveling on the interstate and the car began to slow down.my husband pulled to the side of the road and there was smoke coming from the brakes.after getting out and inspecting for problems we got back in the car and attempted to proceed forward and the car would not move.we called the tow truck. By the time car got to the service department, they were able to drive the vehicle.when they did their inspection, they could not find any problems.we went a week later and pick the car up and drove away.within 2 weeks, a similar problem arose, but the car was still drivable; therefore we did not take it in, but did call to inform the dealership of the problem.in february 2006, the problem came again and the car had to be towed to the nearest dealer.initially there was no problem found, but i requested they check the brakes and it was a faulty master cylinder.this was replaced.within 2 months, we were pulling from the driveway and it appeared my husband had mistakenly put his foot on the gas, however we were sure it was the brakes and the engine revved up and continued to move forward.we called and reported and they said we could bring it in for service., however they rely on the computer to indicate the problem.no problem existed based on the computer.as recent as saturday, april 8, 2006, my son and i was driving and i was pulling behind a line of cars that were stopping at a stop light and the engine revved as i put my foot on the brakes.the car did not stop until i quickly put it in park.we took the car in today, monday, april 10 and again, no problem being found.i called the hyundai customer service, who is investigating the incident.my concern is that we know that there is a problem, but since we now rely solely on computer to locate problems we may never get the problem solved.i hope it doesn't take an accident to get this problem resolved.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe.while driving approximately 5 mph she applied pressure to the brake pedal but the vehicle would not stop until crashing into another vehicle.after crashing, she shifted the vehicle into park.once the vehicle was in park the engine began to exhibit an abnormal increase in rpms and the engine roared extremely loudly until she removed the key out of the ignition.the police appeared on the scene but no injuries were reported.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 70,600.

Dt: the consumer owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe.the consumer was having problems with the brake system ever since she owned the vehicle.when the consumer pressed the brake pedal half way down the brake will start to stop the vehicle, but instead of coming to a complete stop, the vehicle will gradually come to a stop.no warning lights illuminated, indicating that there was a problem with the brakes.the service dealer stated that it was the brake design on this vehicle.the contact contacted the manufacturer.

My wife had entered a small parking lot and was comming up to a curb about 6" high.when she applied the brake, the vehicle jumped over the curb and into a tree.she is sure that she applied the brake and not the accelerator.

When applying brakes, the vehicle would not stop accordingly. When taken to get serviced, it was determined to be due to the vacuum hose and dirt on the abs sensor.

Abs brakes engaging prematurely. 1stinstance after heavy rain stopped at stop sign on slight slope abs engaged and kept moving vehicle out onto road. Dealer could not find any problem, however there was a recall to adjust brakes. 2nd instance on snow covered down grade vehicle in front stopped to make left turn and i put my foot on brake ,immediately the abs brakes engaged causing my vehicle to slide into the other vehicle the engaging of the abs brakes increased the stopping distance of my vehicle and caused the accident abs brakes are worthless in slow stops on slippery roads and there should be a switch to shut them off.

I am suspicious of the braking system of the 2004 hyundai santa fe.once, when driving in wet conditions and approaching an intersection, i tried to stop quickly and the brakes made a strange clumping noise and did not slow the vehicle.i ended up in the middle of the intersection with crossing traffic coming at me.in another incident, while simply driving along the road, one of the tires ran over a shallow impression in the road , not even the size of a pot hole, and the braking system immediately lost hydraulic pressure with the brake pedal depressing to the floor without resistance.the vehicle was traveling down a hill and lost braking ability for approximately 3-5 seconds.luckily nothing more serious occurred.

10/11/2005 - breaks failed at low speed at traffic signal - managed to coast to stop before hitting vehicle ahead of me.brought vehicle to dealership service department on 10/12/05 - they indicated that they "could not reproduce concern.operates normally":on 12/16/05 the problem re-occured resulting in my vehicle hitting the vehicle ahead of me at traffic light intersection (again i applied breaks at a speed of between 5 & 10 miles per hour.breaks initially seem to grab then dissappear with pedal going to floor board with no affective breaking.

Dt*: the contact stated the brakes failed while parking which caused the vehicle to hit a building. The vehicle was traveling 2-3 mph. There was damage done to the front end of the vehicle.while driving to the dealership, the brakes failed again.while the vehicle was at the dealership, they could not duplicate the brake problem.after leaving the dealership, the brakes failed again.

Three months ago, while i was fully stopped at an intersection with my foot on the brakes, my 2004 santa fe suddenly revved up and surged forward, colliding with the car in front of me. This had happened once before (without a collision) and the dealer stated "no problem found." it has now been in the shop three months, and the dealer still states "no problem found." i contacted hyundai consumer affairs who wrote me back stating they had concluded that there was no defect which caused this problem (they never inspected it, however). The car is being traded in; the dealer is being generous on the trade allowance. However, hyundai still maintains there is no problem and i am told the car will go to auction. Hyundai motor america has taken no action to investigate this serious safety defect.

I wasn't sure why at first, the car did that and i thought it was part of the tracking control system(4-wheel drive even though the road conditions were dry.in every incident, the car feels like it is not going to stop, but it does.i am afraid because when the car jumps and if i get too close to someone it can hit a car in front of me, or even a person crossing.so, i was happy receive my recall notice stating the exact problem i was going throughi then called and took the car to the dealer and told them what was happening.i hoped the programming would work since my problem was similar to the recall symptoms.that is when this nightmare began and it was on april 9, 2004.since then, the dealer has been very cooperative but they seem at a loss also.my car was programmed twice and then the abs sensor replaced and a chip also(this was done last monday).i have taken my car 5 times as of today.my car continues to do the knocking/grinding sound and on 2 occasions the last being on may 29;the abs, tcs and the 4-wheel drive lights on the interior control panel have flickered and stayed on as well.(when this happened my car did the knocking/vibrating noise as well.)it has become a daily occurance so now i am documenting all of my incidents and i am getting afraid to drive my car.so today i gave my car back to the dealer and they told me that they will contact the main office at hyundai.all parts and service were not charged and replaced with new hyundai parts.

The problem started december 27, 2004 as i was pulling up a private drive and attempting to stop my sante fe. As i approached the top of the drive i applied braking, my vehicle slowed and came close to what i thought would be a full stop when the abs brake system suddenly activated.i held the brake pedal down but the braking distance increased and it was then that it made contact with a parked truck.the vehicles hit front bumper to front bumper.fortunately no one was injured but both vehicles were damaged from the impact.my vehicle had been recalled previously for a problem with the abs brakeswhich, according to the recall noticewere prone to unexpectedly activate at low speeds.i had other two incidents before the recall notice in which this same type of unexpected abs activation had occurredboth at under 5 mph and when the vehicle was near stopped. I feel hyundai needs to address my vehicle status, the safety of the abs brake operation on my vehicle and others like mine, and the cost of repairs to my vehicle and the truck i collided with december 27, 2004.i cannot state strongly enough how dissatisfied and frustrated i am with hyundais lack of responselet alone their lack of action.i truly hope your office will be able to help in this matter.i will gladly cooperate in any way you may deem necessary.please note: i also called and discussed this matter with your office.i am completing this form as a follow-up to that conversation.

For a long time i kept hearing this clunking type noise but we couldn't figure out what it was. Then on sun. Sept. 21, 2014 i noticed some extra play in the wheel. When i made a turni had to turn the wheel twice as much as normal and then it locked and i had to really pull hard to get it back straight. We very carefully drove it to the auto shop only a mile away. They said my power steering line was ripped open. They said the bolt that attaches to the power steering gear rack sheared off of the subframe. I have pictures. Also since there is a recall on the coil springs for cars sold in the salt belt i thought this also could be a corrosion issue because the mechanic said he has never seen this before. The bolt didn't come loose, the actual subframe tore apart and the steering rack was just hanging there by one bolt and over time it ripped the rubber to shreds. This could have cause fatalities. We had to purchase a new subframe and steering rack to get the car drivable. It seems to me it was faulty manufacturing or a rust corrosion issue. The subframe is a huge thick iron frame where you would think nothing could break it, but in this instance it actually ripped. I would like some compensation for the repairs. I wanted this complaint out there because it could become a safety issue for other drivers.

This vehicle was driven approx. 1/2 mile from home when power steering and brakes failed. It was pulled off of the road and stopped with the emergency brake. Immediately flames shot up the windshield. The entire interior was completely destroyed as well 3/4 of the exterior.

On 12/31/2012, the coil spring on my 2004 hyundai santa fe fractured and punctured the right front tire of the vehicle.i paid upwards of $2000 on 1/7/2013 to have this repaired. I have since traded in the vehicle and no longer own it.i recently received a recall notice from hyundai usa describing the same coil spring fracture that i experienced a couple of years earlier.this recall is called 'campaign124' by hyundai.today (11/4/2014), i called to inquire about the possibility for some reimbursement for the repair i had performed after my incident. I was informed that this was not possible since i no longer owned the vehicle and the repair could not be inspected by hyundai, i don't feel that this is right and i should be entitled to some reimbursement.if requested, i would be able to provide detail of the work performed by the mechanic who performed the service.

The failure caused the contact to slightly go over a curb however, the contact was able to apply force and pull the vehicle to the side and park. The vehicle was towed to the contacts residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 161,516.

While driving in traffic between 10-15 mph, the steering wheel suddenly pulled hard to the left, without being motioned to. When this occurred the vehicle crashed into a pole.this resulted in the driver's sustaining a stress line fracture to his left wrist.

It had just rained and in some places on the city street there was standing water.the water was probably between 1 and 2 inches deep at the most.as i drove in the water no more than 30mph the steering without warning locked up.it stayed locked up for around 10 seconds.this is what almost caused a crash at the intersection.i could not budge the steering with both hands.then after the 10 seconds give or take, there was a small squeal and the steering unlocked.this happens every time i drive in any standing water.

My steering wheel stopped working one day while on the freeway(in motion). I took it to the mechanic, they fixed the problem not even a week later it started to mess up again. Please help.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact statedthe power steering failed. The contact attempted to make a left turn yet the vehicle proceeded to pull to the right abnormally. The dealer advised that the power steering hold return line and transmission lines were severely rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 77,000.

Received letter from hyundai that the company was "preparing a remedy" for possible rusting springson my santa fe. My 2004 santa fe has serious rusting on the under frame. Rust is on the weld points and the fuel and engine covers are completely covered with rust and have chunks missing. A recall of 2001 through 2003 sante fe vehicles does not include ours. We have 64,000 miles on it and well taken care of and we our very concerned that further rusting willcause important parts to give way. I was told by hyundai that nothing could be done but i could write a letter of complaint to hyundai of america. This i did and have not had any response as of 10/26/2009. My vehicle '!@#$%. I am sure this is not an isolated vehicle and probably people do not realize there is an issue because like our car, it looks great until you put it on a hoist.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. After taking the vehicle to the island hyundai dealer to be repaired per an unknown recall, the contact was informed that the subframe needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact noticed that the striker plate that connects to the taping plate was not properly welded onto the door frame; as a result, the left rear passenger door would not remain closed.the dealer advised the contact that since her vehicle was no longer under warranty that she was responsible for the repairs.the manufacturer was aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 100,289.the approximate failure mileage was 97,580.

The chrome plate on the drivers door handle on my 2004 hyundai santa fe has cracked and split. Everytime i open the door to leave the car the handle slices my hand.it's as sharp as a razor blade. I have put tape around it but this is just a temporary fix.my warranty has run out so i don't know what options i may have.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)passenger went to exit the vehicle and got their hand cut by a sharp edge on the door handle.it appears that the chrome-plating has turned into a sharp edge, similar to a razor-blade(identical to what occurred in nhtsa action # pe08071 on the hyundai sonata). I have temporarily taped the sharp area, since both the dealer and hyundai customer service refuse to acknowledge the danger of this problem, and refuse to replace the handle at no charge.they tell me that since there is no recalland the vehicle is out of warranty, they will not change the defective (unsafe) handle even though my other three handles are perfectly fine. Hyundai complaint filed (twice), latest date was 3/10/2010 case #[xxx].

One month ago, with 40,600 miles on my hyundai santa fe the right front spring broke and shredded my tire which the hyundai dealer replaced under warranty.three weeks later the left front spring broke and shredded that tire also. If i had been on the express way, i probably wouldn't be here to tell about it.in the past fifty years i have owned 15 cars and never had a front spring break down much less two in three weeks. Even though the hyundai dealer, patrick of schaumburg, replaced these springs under warranty, i still incurred a $200.00 car rental bill. Hyundai doesn't seem to know what the cause is of these spring failures at only 40,600 miles. Any help as to the cause of this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I was in tn when i heard a slight "thunk" and then a continuous rattle under the vehicle.i assumed a broken exhaust bracket and left tn on 8/17/2014 to return to my home in saint louis mo.i traveled i55 in speeds in excess of 75 mph and listened to the rattle for about 100 miles.and then the rattle stopped and i assumed that the broken bracket had finally come loose and is now located somewhere on i55.i took my car to firestone and was stunned to learn that my right front suspension coil spring was missing and my right front strut was broken. An inspection of the left front coil spring also indicated significant corrosion and needed to be replaced for safety.hyundai has recalled 419,000 vehicles of this type in dc and 20 other states specifically stating excessive corrosion as a result of road salt--this list excluded the state of mo which happens to also use road salt.my hyundai has been in mo for 12 years.hyundai needs to do the responsible thing and expand its recall to all states that use salt and perhaps to coastal states that have ocean salt.

Drivers side coil spring broken.strut mount also needed to be replaced.i bought this car new in 2004.as the mileage will tell you, i don't drive it much.my car had been sitting in the driveway for a couple of days when i went to go to work.as i started backing out of the driveway i heard a very loud noise when i turned the wheel.i decided not to try driving it.my husband took it to the dealer and they found the spring broken.they said i was no longer under warranty.fortunately, i was not driving it at the time as it could have punctured the tire and caused a blowout.since this incident, it has happened again, on the passenger side.this time it had been sitting for about 4 days in the driveway and when i went to back out, i heard it.we immediately took it to a nearby garage and found the spring had broken and was rubbing on the tire.this time the mileage was about 25,000 miles.hyundai does not seem to think there is a problem with these springs.i think it needs to be looked into before someone gets killed.i don't know if it is pertainingto this complaint, but i do want to mention that at 27,000 miles i also had to replace both rear control arms.there seems to be a real problem with the suspension system on the vehicle.please look into it.

While driving 40 mph steering wheel pulled to the left. This was causing a distraction to the consumer.dealership mechanic tried to repair the vehicle 3 times, but did not resolve the problem. Cruise control is not operating properly. *mr

I drove to work without incident on a major interstate at 6am. My car was parked in a secure lot for 8.5 hours. When i went to leave for the day, i started the car, put it drive and began to roll forward. When the car began to move i heard a loud grinding noise and stopped immediately. I called my husband and had him listen to it by phone. We had the car towed to out local hyundai deal who informed us that the drivers side spring had broken which broke the strut, pinched the brake line and bent the sway bar. Total repair cost was 1053.31 with tax. We opted to replace both front springs and struts because we felt this was the safest thing to do after researching on the internet and discovering that there were hundreds of the same complaint in all santa fe's no matter what the year especially after reading that many of them occurred on an interstate traveling at 65 mph resulting in further damage and injury accidents.

Got into car morning of the tenth. Car was making noise. Parked car. Husband took look at it notice heat shield lose. That did not turn out to be noise.on closer inspection notice broken coil spring front drivers side. Funny they are recalling this modelcarfor this potential problem, but my 2004 santa fe actually had thisfailure and it isnot covered !

2004 hyundai santafe broken coil spring rubbing against the front tire.vehicle was parked in my driveway when i heard a very loud bang that sounded like a shotgun. I went out to investigate but could not find anything wrong.the next morning i attempted to leave for work when i noticed a strange noise. I could not identify the sound so i turned around an parked the vehicle back in the driveway.it was then i noticed a curved shape piece on the ground which looked like a hotdog where my vehicle had been parked. I picked the hotdog shaped piece of steel approximately 3/4" diameter. It appeared to have been broken on one end. After further investigation i found it to be a piece of the coil spring on the front drivers side strut. The coil spring was now rubbing against the front tire.luck for me this did no happen while i was on the highway.

I just got it a few months ago and happened to look up recalls, and seen 3 i took it to a hyundai dealership and they said there were just 2 but one was suspension and they haven't called me about it in around a month nowb

This was covered by hyundia recall campaign 124. I filled under case # 9878948.spring repair 2/12/14, sold car 4/5/14, recall 2/4/15. They only would pay for $318 of the $917 total repair and said it has to go to a hyundia dealership. They refused to pay for the sensers, strut mounts , sway bar link etc per the invoice. I contacted the person i sold it to and made a dealer appmt but they didn't show. Hyundia consumer affairs 800-633-5151 told me to file a dispute with bbb autoline which i did under case # hyu1713624. They never responded. Bbb autoline now says that they don't handle recalls disputes but you do. I just talked to them and they referred me to you. Without ever talking to me, while i was trying to get the car into a dealer and waiting for the bbb autoline response hyundia closed out the case. Ironically hyundia would have replaced both springs with oem, all other damaged parts and any damaged tires per their recall. It would have cost them 2x as much as the $917. They wouldn't even call my mechanic who the local hyundia dealer acknowledged as reputable. In our case, the broken spring bent the strut, damaged the sway bar and tore the abs sensor wire.the language in the recall information actually calls for the dealer to replace installed non-oem struts with oem struts so the new bracket will fit properly.given this, i am surprised that you chose not to pay for the cost of the one strut and mount ($62.1 6 +$135.88) & repair ($37.20) and the spring repair ($37.20). Likewise hyundia chose not to pay for the damaged abs sensor ($175.94) and its repair ($55.80). In minnesota, like most states, parts are subject to sales tax of 7.125%. In this case it added up to ($45.25) which hyundia chose not to pay. Likewise hyundia choose not to pay the shop supplies ($13.18) and the environmental fee ($4.93) which are pretty typical.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. In october of 2014, the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired according to nhtsa campaign number: 14v435000 (suspension). The vehicle was inspected and a protector plate was installed on the front coil spring. In april of 2016, while the vehicle was undergoing routine maintenance, the contact was informed that the front coil spring was corroded and rusted and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 176,000.

I was coming home from the store and had just turned into my driveway when my car suddenly veered to the right and stopped.i heard a loud noise and the entire side of my car collapsed on the right side.something was sticking into the tire.i had to have it towed to the dealers and repaired.it cost us over $500.it was still under the dealers warranty, but was not covered.we feel we should be reimbursed.

My wife's santa fe experienced a failure of the front passenger coil spring over the weekend while parked in the driveway. There were no warning signs that it was about to fail and we are very lucky that she was not driving it at the time. It does have 131,000 miles on it, but i have never had a coil spring snap like this on any other vehicle i have owned. Based on the number of complaints on this issue, hyundai needs to issue a recall for this problem. Right now we are looking at approximately $1500 (still getting quotes) for something that should have been resolved some time ago.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was not available.

Car was is garage. Went to back out and had barely moved an inch in reverse when i heard a pop and a whooshing noise of the front left tire deflating. Car was then slanted/lopsided to the left because the tire was so deflated. Tried to remove tire and couldn't get it off. Discovered that the front left coil spring had snapped off and it was lodged in the tire. The sharp jagged end of the spring is what popped the tire. Lucky i wasn't driving when this happened!

This vehicle has been driven extensively year round, including snowy northeast ohio winters. On a somewhat cold day in march 2014, my 2004 santa fe sat outside on a surface lot for approximately 14 hours. As i pulled my car out of the parking space, the car lurched to the front right and came to a halt. I had pulled forward approximately 3 feet, had turned the wheel slightly to the right, and just began to hit the gas to pull out of the parking space. It was quite obvious that my front right tire had blown violently. No accidents occured with other vehicles and no injuries occured; however, should someone have been standing near the front right tire, someone may have been hurt. While trying to change the tire, it became obvious that the spring had broken and made contact with the tire. The vehicle needed to be towed on a flatbed and repairs were made. I still own the vehicle, and i am now aware that this part has been recalled for this exact issue. I am concerned about the integrity of the spring on the opposite side as it is currently an original part.

Hyundai recall campaign 124/the dealer ordered the front coil spring on 12/16/2014 and has never received it.hyundai can not tell them where the part is and has not been helpful in locating another part.a tire burst due to the recalled part so the car has been sitting undriveable at the maguire dealership in ithaca ny for over a month.as a consumer we have not been able to get any answers from hyundai.this is a recalled part and they are not making any effort to fix the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that after starting the engine and shifting into drive, a loud popping and grinding noise emitted from outside of the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was found that the front passenger's tire had exploded. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the coil spring and defective tire were replaced. The identical failure occurred most recently where the front driver's side coil spring fractured. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000.

I got a letter bymail saing my car has a recall for * coil spring fracture* and i had to take it to check it or repair in case it needed to be repaired. I wonder if this will have a cost for me or i need to wait tilll this is fractured?thanks in advanced for your help

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while reversing out of her driveway, the driver front coil spring fractured and rubbed against the tire. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 76,000.

I have a 2004 hyundai santa fe, 2.7 liter engine, 4wd. Front spring on passenger side broke yesterday, while the car was in the garage, causing my tire to puncture. Thought it was just a flat but it was not until the car was towed to a tire store that i learned the spring had simply snapped in half. I have researched this and this is, clearly, a faulty part. After seeing dozens and dozens of similar consumer complaints i am astounded that hyundai has not recalled these vehicles (appears to span 2001 to 2006) or been sued by someone seriously injured in an accident. Thank god i was not driving my car at the time. I wonder how many fatal accidents have been caused by hyundai's negligence in not being forthcoming in replacing this part. My current repair cost estimate is $521. But it's not clear if other damage from the spring breakage has occurred. Will know tomorrow.

While backing out of my driveway, i heard a "clunk" sound in the front of my vehicle. Upon inspection, i found a "c" shaped piece of metal on the driveway. I immediately drove to my mechanic's shop, where he told me that the coil spring on my santa fe had broken on the passenger's side. The coil spring on the driver's side was also cracked. He had to replace both coil springs. He later told me that it was unusual to have these springs break for no apparent reason. I decided to go online to see if hyundai had issued a recall or whether this was a problem for other consumers who owned this vehicle. I found numerous sites where people had written in stating that they had the exact same problem - in most cases, the coil spring broke as the operator was putting the 2004-2006 car into gear to either back or,pull out of a parked position. I would appreciate your looking into this issue, and getting back to me on any further information you may need from me.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Took myhyundai santa fe in for the recall on the spring issue.after returning home and looking at the work order that listed their activity as installing a?front spring protector installation,? i called their national consumer help number and asked about the parameters used in evaluating the repair decision.her answer was: the dealer will inspect and do either a spring replacement if sever damage is found or install a front spring protection kit and spray application (of something) if moderate damage is found.i questioned the parameters for leading to a decision, the first person i talked to said it was the dealers responsibility.i responded by asking fora supervisor, after transfer she repeated the previous answer.i have been involved in many structural evaluations of rusty structural elements.one cannot just eyeball a situation like this, there are parameters for the repair or replacement.i found the supervisors answer, that she could not direct me to a corporate engineering office for specific design parameters and that the dealers would be making the decisions was questionable at best in terms of their answer, with no defined evaluative criteria and their reliability on the dealers to make a safety choice over a economic one.the recall was from hyundai not the dealer i purchased from.there were two other instances relating to rust on this car, the car needed to have its fuel tank replaced a few years ago because it was rusting and leaking gasoline,i have the extended bumper to bumper 100,000 mile warranty.little did that help, they claimed it was not covered (what does bumper to bumper mean) and denied coverage.a separate issue occurred when the car died about 100 yards from my service garage, pushed it in, they found a corroded wire (what ever) and replaced it.when i called for reimbursement, they denied it.

Received a notice of recall for front coil spring issue in mail, my front coil sprig is currently broken. Called dealership to have it repaired and told they do not have the parts to fix it or a remedy for me to have a drivable car until it can be fixed. No time frame can be given when they can fix the issue.

While backing out of driveway, heard a loud popping and cracking sound. Got out to look. There was a large "c" shaped piece of metal laying in driveway where drivers side was. Took car to hyundai dealership. Coil spring had broken. Spring and tire was replaced under extended warranty. Concerned about passenger side now that ute now has 88,000 miles that will not be covered if occurs out of 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty.

I responded to hyundai's recall email and when i tried to sign up to have my vehicle's issues resolved and schedule electronically i could not do so unless i agreed to also schedule a recommended service such as an oil change.the site i was sent to is https://autoservice.hyundaiusa.com/campaign124/micrositetemplate/micrositetemplatevinvalidate/1424

I began backing out of my driveway when i heard a crunching type sound, and then it stopped briefly.i continued to back up and the sound happened again followed by a loud noise and air gushing out of my passenger side front wheel.the tire went completely flat.once the tire was removed we discovered the coil spring had broken and sliced the tire all the way around.it appears from my research that this is a common problem.luckily i was not driving down the road with my small children in the car.

5/25/2011, approx. Time 8:45 a.m. 2004 santa fe lx, 38,828 miles on vehicle. Original owners, bought new. Vehicle was sitting in our driveway, got in to leave for doctors appt., moved about two feet, when we heard this loud noise and air gushing sound from the right front of our car. Went out to investigate and found the coil spring had ruptured and cut through the sidewall of the tire. Thank god we were not traveling on any road or interstate hwy., i would not be telling this.hyundai motors of america, corporate office was notified of my issue, and the fact the left spring could rupture at any time. They offered in good faith to pay for right spring and tire, but would not replace left front spring.hyundai motors of america should be responsible for these defected coil springs and recall all 2004 santa fe to replace front coil springs and any other mechanical systems that were affected by the ruptured coil springs.many owners of 2004 santa fe are not aware of this issue, hopefully hyundai will take full responsibility before their are any fatalities, god bless us, and i pray he will keep us safe!!!!!

Was just pulling the car down the drive way and the front passenger side tire blew out.i stopped the car and a friend was going to change the tire.he noticed the spring had broken loose and punctured the tire.the car had been sitting in the drive way for 12 to 15 hours before we went to drive it.we had not even made it on the road and was only going a couple miles per hour and about 15 to 20 feet.we were on our way, going out of town and were thankful that we did not have this happen going 65 mph on the highway were we could have been hurt or hurt some one else.several times a week we have a new born and a two year old in this vehicle.thankfully they were not with us.this front end suspension problem needs to be looked at, somebody is not going to be as lucky as we were.for us it was the drive way and not driving on the high way at a high speeds with our family.

Failure of front coil spring while driving. Coil spring suddenly broke and punctured tire.

While driving on a straight, smooth section of interstate highway my wife and i heard a very loud boom, as if we had hit a large rock or something. There was no vibration that an impact would have caused. We didn't know what had caused the noise. 2004 hyundai, santa fe drove fine. Two days later, when making a low speed right turn, the right front tire blew out. When the tire was removed it was discovered that the coil spring had broken, made contact with the tire and ripped it about three quarters around completely through. After researching the topic i was appalled at how many complaints there were about broken springs on 2004 santa fes. It seems to be a recurrent problem with this vehicle and should be recalled. If the spring had ruptured the tire when it apparently broke, on the highway i hesitate to think what would have happened, or how many lives would be at risk. I believe it is time hyundai stepped-up and recall the springs.

On april 21, 2011 went to back suv out of my driveway when the frontleft tire went flat. After removing the tire found tire had a hole on inside wall of tire . This was caused by the coil spring protruding out. Upon further inspection found the coil spring broken. The car had to be towed to a repair shop. I feel very lucky this did not happen while driving at a high rate of speed.

I went into garage to move my 2004 hyundai santa fe out so my husband could put our 2009 hyundai sonata into it.the santa fe had been sitting in the garage for about 4 days undriven.when i started to back up, it was making a loud noise.i got out of the vehicle to make sure there was nothing in the way. Not seeing anything in my way,i continued to back the santa fe out to the street still hearing a loud noise.my husband came over to see what was making the noise and noticed that the whole front passenger side fender was resting on the tire.upon raising it with the jack, he noticed that the front passenger suspension coil was broken.i even took pictures of it while it was jacked up.the upside to this whole thing is that we weren't driving it at a high speed when this happened.i'm sure we would have flipped the vehicle and been seriously injured or even killed. We have 84,647 miles on it and were always very meticulous with maintenance.we will call the dealership tomorrow, but from what i can see, it looks like an expensive repair.

I bought my 2004 hyundai santa fe new in february 2004.all of the brake pads had to be replaced at 23000 miles due to rusted calipers.however, my complaint is about something much more serious.the coil springs on both front mcphearson struts broke and penetrated the tires.the left front spring broke in february 2009at about 23000 miles.the right front spring broke on 6/9/09 at approximately 24500 miles.fortunately, the santa fe was parked in my garage both times the springs broke.had the springs failed while i was driving down the road or on the thruway, there's no doubt in my mind that i would have crashed or rolled over. Although the tows and repairs were made under warranty at no cost to me, i don't trust the santa fe anymore and i do not intend to keep it.

Iparked my vehicle in a parking lot at 8am and then by 1pm my coil spring broke destroying my tire and resulting in my getting towed. Had my coil spring broke on the highway i would have crashed

Both front coil springs on my 2004 hyundai santa fe broke the right at22,000 miles and the left at 32,000 miles. Luckily the vehicle was parked both times.

I have a 2004 santa fe and just the other day my driver side coil spring broke, lucky i wasn't driving it at the time however it going to cost about 1250.00 to fix.

I drive a used, 2004 hyundai santa fe gls.very recently, i was just leaving work when a seemingly very ordinary thing happened to my car.i was stopped at a stop sign, waiting to take a left turn.as soon as i accelerated and began to turn, my vehicle suffered a blown-out front-passenger side tire. As the tire blew out, i heard a loud "clunk"and then a "pop".surprised, i pulled the car over as soon as i could, off of the main road.i had roadside assistance come out to change the tire, because i found that i did not have the tools required in my car to change a tire.after the tow truck driver put on the spare, i paid him for his services and went to leave.as i turned the wheel to leave, my vehicle suffered another blow-out, same side.my car then had to be towed to the nearest shop to be looked at.turns out, my front-right coil spring snapped and pierced my tire(s).i currently have 73,000 miles on my car, which is a good amount, but at the same time, coil springs do not just snap from normal wear and tear.the vehicle is 7 years old, not twenty.how could this happen?i found out that when the coil spring snapped, it also snapped the struts and the strut mount, on top of my two tires.the total amount for the damage was about $1200.00, as both sides needed new parts to ensure the best handling of the car.all i can think about is, what if i was on the expressway doing 65?it's a scary thought to know that i may not have come out of this alive.i am very lucky it happened at such a low speed, with hardly any cars around, or else i would not have lived to tell the tale.i have noticed that several other santa fe owners have had the same problem.and god forbid, maybe even more that have not lived to tell.this is a dangerous defect, and it needs to be looked at.

I was traveling down the highway at 70mph when, all of a sudden, i heard a bang and the car veered out of control.it was a terrifying experience.i regained control of the car i was able to safely pull to the side of the road to investigate and i noticed that the coil spring broke.the following day i brought my vehicle to the hyundai dealer and they charged an outrageous amount to replace.not very likely that i would purchase another hyundai.

Passanger side spring seperated causing tire damage.

The air conditioner cuts off on level 4 while driving if i cut it down to level 3 it comes back on but will eventually cuts off completely.. Is there a recall on ac parts, blower, codes etc?? this happens tooo much..its really frustrating

Noise comes from fronted like something cracked.

At 84,360 miles our suv wasn't shifting into 2nd gear, would go from 1st to 3rd.a big klunk would occur around 20 mph.took into dealership (withnell hyundai, salem, or) in june 08, and they reset the computer.husband argued with service dept., saying he wanted a new transmission, guy said if it went bad again that would probably happen, and he said if it went bad, would go bad by 100000 miles.took suv back in 8-2010 with 99960 miles, was shifting hard again, was told it was the rear motor mount, and they replaced that.then at 105000 miles jan. 2011, shifting hard again, took back to dealership they again reset the computer..at no charge to us, and told us "transmission was failing".

The vehicle keeps won't start after pumping gas. It takes awhile, and stalls. Even stalled while driving, which terrifies me. I don't want to be out on the highway possibly risking an accident.i went to pepboys and spent $1800 on trying to figure out what the problem was, and its still doing the same thing. It happened more than once, and continues to happen.

Stopped at intersection, with my foot on the break, the suv lurches forward and jerks. I placed it in park while waiting for the light to change. I was concerned that i would hit the car in front of me. I drove2 hours and noticed continued misfiring and jerking while driving. It was ok when the engine was cool, but felt unsteady when up to temp. After being parked in grocery parking lot, while backing up the car stalled, i restarted and drove home. Took it to mechanics next day.at the hyundai dealer now. They could not get any codes and the engine failure light never showed. The mechanic, said that he was 90% sure that replacing the timing belt/crank shaft position sensor/balancer shaft belt/pick up plate would correct the problem...this didn't work and the dealer asked to keep it a 5th night. I have not heard from them as of yet. I'm concerned that my car will not be repaired and am afraid to drive it.

Recently the engine throttle started to rev up and wanting to acceleratewhen i am goin very very slow stuck in traffic or just deiving under 30 mph. I would have to apply the brakes very hard and that wouldn't work so i would have to put it into neutral and wait for the throttle to calm down.i went to my mechanics and they put the computer monitor on my santa fe but no codes came up showing any problems. They checked the throttle cable and it was fine.they told me that other santa fe owners experienced the same problem.

2004 hyundai santa fe - new - sudden acceleration/ loss of braking power--dealer claims no condition found - car is new - 200 miles on it.

Abs tcs tracking system turns out while driving

While applying the brakes inside of the parking garage the pedal went to the floor.the driver skidded into another vehicle.this problem has happened three times.the driver took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic informed determined that the problem could not be duplicated.the driveway was on an uphill incline and was covered in snow.the brake pedal vibrated and the vehicle lurched forward instead of stopping.this was an intermittent problem. *sc the consumer stated a recall was issued on the abs.

I am now afraid to drive my hyundai sante fe.while driving home from work (about 30 miles from home) my vehicle started accelerating rapidly and surging when i was trying to keep it from lunging forward.i had to use the emergency brake and the brakes to stop it and that still did not stop the acceleration from continuing.i drove it directly to the shopwhere i wanted to have it fixed.it cost over $500 to have a throttle sensor replaced and now it's doing it again?i had it towed last night because i could not stop it again without almost putting it in a ditch.when it stopped it then started not wanting to go at all.this is a dangerous condition for sure with this vehicle.since last month when this happened, i have bee reading lots of info from other drivers with the same issue.hyundai does not want to give me anything for this dangerous repair as they don't want to admit any fault.

Hyundai santa fe sudden acceleration, enging racing while braking.

February we purchased a 2004 hyundai santa fe for our soon to be 16 year old son to drive. Most immediately we noticed an intermittent problem with the vehicle. When attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle will stutter 3 times as if it were going to die and then it recovers. We have taken the vehicle into the dealership at least 6 times, the most recent this morning. Today they would not even take the car in as they could not duplicate the problem and had no idea what to repair.i took copies of other nhtsa complaints and service bulletins with me in an effort to help them with ideas, but to no avail. They made an appointment for us to come back on october 20, 2004 to see if there are any updates from hyundai that might fix the problem then.after leaving the dealership, the vehicle exhibited the problem and my son was almost in an accident. The car has only 3800 miles on it!

While sitting in traffic at a local gas station, my 2004 hyundai santa fe surged to the point where i could barely control the vehicle from crashing into the car in front of me. I immediately placed the car in neutral and the engine speed surged to nearly 6000 rpm. I turned the vehicle off. The car was able to be started again without incident. There was no collision, but it was a very scary and uncontrolled manner for the vehicle to be operated in.

Put foot on brake at low speed, vehicle suddenly accellerated. Held foot on brake to keep from colliding with other vehicle in front. Jammed lever in neutral, tac went to 3000 rpm for 5 seconds, then back to normal idle. Check engine light came on before that and went off next day. This incident happened 4 times over 3 months. Vehicle has had ecm reprogrammed at dealer for 3 "bump from behind" incidents previously.

Pulling into parking space when car suddenly accelerated and went up onto a 6 inch sidewalk barrier. Drivers foot was firmly on the brake but car accelerated anyway . Driver put car in neutral to keep from going forward and stop. Very very scary and thankful no one was walking in front of us.

Last week, my husband was slowly pulling out of a parking lot and was applying the brakes as a group of people passed in front of him.the vehicle spontaneously lurched forward and revved to 4-5,000 rpm.my husband was standing on the brakes but the vehicle continued to move forward; the passenger turned the car off at which point the vehicle stopped going forward--the people in front of the vehicle barely escaped being run over by our santa fe.needless to say, this is an unsafe vehicle for all involved--driver, passengers, other cars, pedestrians, etc.we were 100 miles away from home on vacation and had the car towed to the local dealership where we bought the vehicle.that dealership (porter chevrolet/hyundai, newark, delaware) has had the vehicle for over a week and is telling us that no codes are appearing and they can do nothing to further investigate and/or correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe.whenever the contact accelerates from a stop, the vehicle surges forward rapidly.he must immediately apply the brakes.the failure has occurred ever since the vehicle was purchased.the vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer several times, but the failure still persists.the speed was unknown.the current mileage was 66,963 and failure mileage was 5,000.

The vehicle tries to slow down or acceleratewhile driving on city streets

While at a stop vehicle surged forward .dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai santa fe.while driving the vehicle at any speed, it accelerated on its own. Occasionally when the vehicle came to a complete stop the vehicle accelerated more rapidly. The contact had to apply extreme pressure to the brakes multiple times in order to stop the vehicle from accelerating. The failure began when the heat or the air conditioner was turned on.the dealer replaced one of the sensors; however, the acceleration continued to occur. The vehicle was taken to another dealer who was also unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 10,000. Updated 05/10/10 updated 05/12/10.

The contact stated that the vehicle stalled as soon as it was started.she was able to restart the vehicle the following day yet the vehicle abnormally accelerated with an unusual increase in engine rpm as she depressed the brakes. The vehicle would not stop and she then shifted into neutral and shut the vehicle off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. In january of 2005, i was driving my 2005 hyundai santa fe 3.5l gls. I stopped at a light and remained stopped for a while. Suddenly, the vehicle accelerated and despite depressing the brakes, i could not stop it from lunging forward. I had to quickly get it out of gear to make it stop, and fortunately did not hit anyone. I took it to rowe hyundai in westbrook, maine (where i bought it) and the service department said they could not duplicate it nor could they identify the problem. On 2-22-05, i was stopped at a stop sign with my foot on the brake, when suddently the engine accelerated quickly and loudly. I depressed the brake harder yet could not stop the vehicle from lunging forward. Before i could get it out of gear, it rear-ended the person parked in front of me. This caused damage to both vehicles. I had it towed to the dealer and have contacted hyundai motor america about this.

2004 hyundai santa fe has sudden acceleration and surging no trouble lights on.dealership told me the throttle sensor had to be replaced, so we did that.about a month later, same thing happened.dealership replaced throttle sensor again, at no charge. Said ifit happens again we would need a new throttle body.happened again, so had the throttle body replaced.happened again and was told it was wiring that had to do with cruise control. Which i never use.happened again today 3/16/2011.notified the dealership that i was dropping off tonight in the night drop.i have already paid over $1000.00 for something that has not been fixed.we willsee what happens tomorrow.we maxed out our towing with aaa, so my husband, who works second shift and hour and half away from where we live has to drive it back to the dealership tonight.it started today when he was about 15 minutes away from work.also this is our only car, and dealership always says their loaner cars are all out.just wanted this documented and am praying my husband gets back to the dealership ok.

2004 hyundai santa fe driver's side sun visor broken - hangs in front of driver.internet research shows this is a very, very common problem for all hyundai models from 2000 - 2010.

We own a 2004 hyundai sante fe and have been having problems with the sun visors.the drivers side sun visor has broken twice.it no longer has enough friction to hold it up and hangs down in the drivers line of site.the first occurrence was replaced under warranty.the second was out of the warranty period, 70,000 miles, and replacement part is a $170.the drivers visor blocking the drivers view is safety issue.i believe this may be a common problem after it has happened to our vehicle twice.availability of used parts is scarce due to so many problems and i have found other remarks online about the same problems.these visors should be recalled and replaced by hyundai.

Received a notice of recall for front coil spring issue in mail, my front coil sprig is currently broken. Called dealership to have it repaired and told they do not have the parts to fix it or a remedy for me to have a drivable car until it can be fixed. No time frame can be given when they can fix the issue.

Dt:caller stated all five of the lugs: nuts on the front passenger side wheel broke and the wheel came off. Some damage was done to the fender. Vehicle was fixed by a body shop per the insurance company. Dealer was too far away to take vehicle there.manufacturer had not been contacted yet. Vehicle was towed to contact'shouse.
