I thought i blue a tire and it was my passenger seat air bag my name is [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
About 3 months ago, my airbag light came on and was not gone off since.i wondered if this meant i had no airbag function, but now after reading these complaints i know it is not working.this problem combined with the engine that mysteriously and suddenly shuts down while driving on the interstate is not a good combination.i smell trouble.
Dt*: the contact stated whilemaking a left turn at an intersection the passenger side air bag deployed. The vehicle was traveling less than 20 mph. The air bag light illuminated when the air bag deployed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however the dealer has not inspected the vehicle pictures have been sent to the manufacturer. No police report was filed.
The air bag red warning light came on in 9/08. The dealer scanned the system, cleared historic codes, cycled through self test several times.codes did not reset.light came back on in 1/09.i will take vehicle back to dealer. My opinion is that safety equipment should be more reliable . When the red light initially came on they couldn't find a problem but i will be charged appx. $600 when they fix the problem.
Airbag light stays on.this happened 18 months ago and was repaired under warranty.dealer wants $70 just to diagnose the problem plus repair costs since it is no longer under warranty.no thanks.
The airbag lights keep coming on - i am now on my third repair to fix this ongoing problem. I likely need to replace the airbags! so costly but it is a safety issue so how can i not? this is a known and ongoing issue and hyundai should be responsible and cover this defect.

I was in a minor accident when the braking system failed on my 2003 hyundai santa fe. I could not stop the suv and ran into a guardrail . I could have been hurt or killed because of this. Others could have been hurt or killed. The dealership in beaver falls, pa has done nothing for the problem and i have brought it in and they said that my model is not affected which i find that very hard to believe. I am selling the car but i also want to let someone know that i am taking it to the dealer in the morning to get the coil recalls done. If the dealer decides not to do that either and with the air bag problem someone is going to get hurt or maybe killed driving this car and i just want to do my part and i do not want a law suit on my shoulders. I will give them one more chance to do the right thing. I have not drove the car since i had the accident and want to sell it and to do so i am having it inspected too. All the work should have been under warranty at the time i had the accident ! i guess it must be to expensive to fix and a life does not matter anymore to anyone in this sick world.
The air bag illustration light came on about eight months ago, at first it goes on and off, but finally it stayed on a month after that.when i took it in for a mechanic to run a diagnosis test, he could not find any error code.i asked the dealer if there were any recalls on the airbag, they said no and want to charge me $99 for diagnosis.
Dt*: the contact stated the air bag light illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealer on five different occasions.the first two times, the dealer could not find the problem.the other three times, the dealer replaced a wire under the passenger seat, the passenger seat belt harness, and a wire harness clip.the problem still occurred.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe.the dealer informed the contact that a new air bag was needed because the driver's side air bag light remains illuminated.the dealer performed a diagnostic and scan test and stated that the air bag needed to be replaced at the cost of $900.the failure mileage was 43,098.
The airbag light stays on for no reason it has been on for 8months now and no fuses are blown and now my bright lights wont work when i flip them on the lights shut off.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The air bag warning light consistently illuminates on the instrument control panel when the seat was reclined. The error code has been reset over 15 times.also the driver side seat andair bags were replaced due to a defective horn. None of the repairs have remedied the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000.the current mileage was 116,000.

Airbag light remains on so this is a safety issue.will i have to pay for this? i really don't know the history of this vehicle i never received a car fax on it.that is why i need to know if there were any recalls on the airbag with the airbag light remains on. I know this might be because of the module having to be replaced.

While driving the brakes failed. Upon applying the brakes vehicle continued to coast.however, it happened again, andan accident occurred. Contacted the dealer, and was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. It happened a third time whichled to another accident, and the air bags did not deploy. I ran into a van traveling 30 mph.i totaled the front of my hyundai sante fe.the van in front of me was at a complete stop.his van hit was pushed into a truck that was stopped in front of him.the air bags never deployed.why didn't the air bags go off?the fireman at the scene even said they should have.
At 5,980 miles engine started to create engine noise.dealer said that there's a problem on the vehicle's crankshaft. *lathe consumer began to hear noise in the engine compartment.the dealer replaced many components; crankshaft, transmission, belt tensioner and pulley.none of those repairs corrected the noise.the clock spring failed and caused the horn and cruise control to be inoperative.
My airbags were defective. I was in a car accident, and the airbags did not deploy. After the accident, i was taken to the hospital to treat multiple bodily injuring, which could have been prevented if the airbag had deployed. I was driving in town when the accident occurred. I overshot a turn and hit a poll on the left side of the car. The car flipped and was totaled. Again, no airbags were deployed. I have included pictures of the car after the accident. My main concern is the issue with the airbags. I feel as though these should have worked properlyand that i am fortunate enough that the accident was not any worse, as more serious injuries could have then occurred.if needed, i have more pictures; however, due to the file size allowed, i have limited it to key picture. Please let me know.

The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the air bags deployed without warning. The contact sustained a minor injury to her back. The vehicle was later towed to the dealer for diagnosis where they advised her that the vehicle indicated that it had been involved in a crash. They also advised her that the vehicle could possibly be deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were approximately 110,000. The vin was unavailable.
On january 4, 2010 i had the vehicle battery replaced. After battery installation the airbag warning light came on and remained on. On jan. 11 i paid $87 to have a diagnostic test which incorrectly indicated that all airbags had been deployed plus a crash was recorded. Mechanic's recommendation was to have srs control module replaced at an estimated cost of over $400.
I own a 2003 hyundai santa fe in which the air bag warning light was illuminated starting in december 2006. At which time the air bag "clock spring" was replaced under warranty on 12/6/2006 at 33,154 miles.the second occurrence was in march, 2011. I was told it was the "clock spring" again, which was now not under warranty, and would cost of around $285.00. This was not replaced due to a suggestion from the dealer's service department mechanic. The indicator was reset and has been off for over a year.the most recent occurrence was in may 2012 (mileage approx. 88,500), the airbag light came on again and now i'm told it needs a new airbag at a cost of around $750.00!! the indicator was reset and air bag not replaced the light stayed off for approximately 3 months.a search on the internet revealed hundreds of "posts" on this very same problem (most of them on the national highway traffic safety administration's (nhtsa) website). Hyundai santa fe's have had this problem for nearly 10 years! and, to make matters worse, replacing either the clock spring or the airbag apparently does not guarantee that the airbag will deploy, thus causing a very dangerous situation. I also noticed that there was a recall (#103) for the 2007-2008 models. This recall should have included all santa fe's not just two years. Apparently, this problem is a manufacturing defect not a normal wear & tear issue.
My hyundai santa fe air bag light turned on. I googled this issue and it seems like a lot of hyundai santa fe owners experienced the same thing a little after reaching 100k miles.
Was driving down pendleton pike going south turn on 38th street going west, their was big loud pop i though i blew a tire over seen the air bag had exploded on the passenger seat this happened on 2/13/2017 my name is [xxx]email [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On february 3, 2004, thomas ashfield, my husband, was driving to the high school to pick up our daughter.while driving southbound toward the high school two vehicles were traveling north.the first car was traveling at ahigher rate of speed than what the elements called for, hitting the second car and shooting the car into ours, broadsiding tom on his driver's side.tom immediately heard a snap. He sustained broken ribs, a torn meniscus , and a herniated disc in his c5/c6. (his first surgery is complete, we are awaitingthe second.) the damage to the car was enough to require approximately $8,400.00.during the accident, the side airbag did not deploy.the insurance company wanted a rapid repair.we never thought to get engineers out to look at the damage or to take pictures.we did learn that there had been a problem with the airbag and sensor from the body shop andthey said theywould retain the components so that hyundai could view them.i wrote to hyundaion april 14, 2004.a representative contacted usthe first time in june and then on june 22, 2004, he called again asking for the name of the repair shop.tom gave him the information.the representative called us back and told tom that the repair shop had gotten rid of the parts.that was a shock to us because up until two weeks ago, they told us they would retain it.(we confirmed this with them when the representative first made contact with us.)in addition, from what the representative told tom, the story changedabout the defective parts.i do not have the slightest idea of what occurred.something is happening.i want answers.i want to know why the malfunction happened.was this the first timeor is it something that is ongoing and nobody is paying attention to.my husband sustained majorinjuries.we paid for safety features on a new vehicle and they did not work. What will it require for us to receive answers...a death?
I was on my way home from work 1/21/2007 @07 :40 am down i 75 south @70-75 mph with no traffic on the road no items in the road and my drivers side airbag went off.i was driving in the slow lane and kept my hands on the wheel and pulled over to the side. The airbag hit my arm. I have a left upper arm contusion and left neck/shoulder sprain per my doctor .nothing hit my car.the next day my car was towed to the dealer in ann arbor automotive . When the man put my car on the tow truck he noticed a dent under the car at the gas tank. That did not happen on 1/21/07 i did not hear or see anything.that should not set a side airbag off.the dealer statement is that what caused it.which they are full of it.the told me it is going to cost $5500.00 to fix.i contacted hyundai consumer affairs and awaiting to hear back from them.this is very unsafe and this car should not be allowed on the road if airbags deploy from a rock ect hitting under the car. I find it heard to believe that they are that sensitive.
On march 30, 2004 at 5:52 am while on my way to work, my hyundai santa fe was hit on the driver's side door by a man who ran a red light.as his vehicle made impact, my santa fe was sent into a roll-over, with approximately three to four flips.my side airbags did not deploy, and as a result, i hit my head on the driver's side window.i suffered from a concussion and daily headaches, that at times were debilitating.the driver's side of the car, from front to back, was destroyed.i was unable to exit the vehicle this way, and had to get out of the car through the passenger's side with the help of a passer-by.both vehicles were totaled as a result of the accident.i contacted hyundai and sent them all of the required paperwork.i received a reply that statedthey felt the airbags had functioned in the manner in which they were designed, and this was their final decision on the matter.i fail to see how side-air bags, not deploying in a roll-over collision, are functioning at all.when i purchased the vehicle, the dual side impact airbags were one of the selling points that the dealer used.included in the owners manual was a pamphlet that also described the airbags, along with pictures of a car being hit in the driver's door and roll-over accidents.according to this pamphlet, the side airbags would protect you in crashes such as these.
Iown a 2003 hyundai santa fe and have experienced multiple instances where the engine stalls while i am driving, but will come back on after a short period of time.we have returned the car to the dealer three times and they saidthey could notfind nothing wrong, and would have to see the incident in the process of happening before they could make a definite diagnosis.today while driving to work my husband heard on the radio that chrysler and jeep vehicles were just recalled for this same problem!i really would appreciate any help in getting my hyundai dealer to see that this same problem is happening to my vehicle.

I was driving down the road going about 40 to 45 miles an hour on a busy road.i had my grandchildren in the car with me.the car all of a sudden shut off on me.thank god i had enough momentum to pull over on the side of the road.i couldn't get the car to start so i sat there with them praying i wouldn't get hit.after a while it started up again and i went maybe two feet and it died again.i was able to roll into an empty garage and i called my husband.there was an auto zone near by so he got a machine which said what was wrong.it said it was the crankshaft sensor.my car is now being fixed at a hyundai dealer.i went on line for recalls and i found one that said there was a recall on them but not for my vehicle.if it was on one vehicle year why wouldn't my year be covered.my family could have been killed because of the vehicle stopping all of a sudden on a main rd. Like i was on.we have kept up with all the recalls that they send us.

Onnovember 5, 2004 at approx 7:30 pm our 2003 santa fe with only approx 14,000 miles suddenly "died" in the middle of the road. All of the vehicle warning lights came on, the heater and radio began making strange noises, the headlamps failed, and the vehicle engine stopped running and would not start, leaving the vehicle in the middle of the road, stranding me and my pregnant wife, with no lights or flashers in the middle of the road on a cold night. Hyunadai roadside service contractor cross country motorclub claimed that it would take over 3 hours to get the vehicle towed, so finally 9 after nearly 2 hours) county police towed the vehicle as a traffic hazard to fairfax hyundai.

Right after i purchased my santa fe in march of 2003,at random times my car bucked when the car went over 40 and then when it went over 60.the jerk is strong enough to throw the driver and passengersforward and backward.when i informed the dealer, they said the computer system just needed to get use to the way i drive. As the problem became more frequent and i became more worried, i continued to inform the dealer. I was told that hyundai was aware of the problem;however, the techs had not been authorized to fix the problem.in early june of 2004, i finally was listened to by the manager of the dealership and korean techs had just been in reflashing computers on other sante fe vehicles, trying to fix the problem.i was told that this was the answer.the computer system in my car was replaced with a reflashed computer, and i didn't have any problems for two weeks. On july 9th, the problem began again. *la
Our 2003 hyundai sante fe will shut off while driving with no warning at all. The tachometer drops to zero then the vehicle will restart and continue going. Sometimes it will completely shut off while driving or at a stoplight and has to be put and park and cranked.the vehicle also bucks while driving at times and the transmission shift hard when putting in reverse at times. Vehicle has been sent to dealership several times and says they cannot fix it without seeing it happen with their computer connected to it. Of course, it never occurs for them. Nothing has been done to resolve this issue. This happens nearly daily over the last year. The vehicle is not safe to be driven.

The vehicle also bucks while driving at times and the transmission shift hard when putting in reverse at times. Vehicle has been sent to dealership several times with multiple issues. Dealership thinks its a electrical problem but states vehicle will have to be taken to different dealership and we would be responsible for a rental car and the repair bill. We purchased the car in november of 2006 and within 45 days of the purchase we started to have problems with the vehicle. Sante fe had 54,000 miles when the first problem started and now has 64,000 which they state the vehicle is out of warranty because we are the second owners. Nothing has been done to resolve this issue. The vehicle is not safe to be driven on highways because of the shutting off and bucking incident's.
The rear driver side door does not always unlock with the remote.the dealer and hyundai refuse to give me a loaner so i can bring the vehicle back a ninth (9th) time to have it inspected for this and many other concerns so i am unable to have the concern addressed.

Our 2003 hyundai santa fe has had over 25 instances of engine stalling and power loss. We have the documentation that it was brought it to the attention of a hyundai dealership 4 times and over a 50,000 miles and a 2-1/2 year span. Each time it is taken in, the dealer cannot resolve it as they state they require an error code or first hand experience to begin to troubleshoot. I have contacted hundai america and am in the process of faxing over all documentation and nhtsa complaints that mirror the problem we are having.this is becoming an enormous safety hazard and i would like to have nhtsa to investigate hyundai on this issue.
I owned a 2003 hyundai santa fe and the heated seat electrical unit failed to shut off and the interior of the car caught on fire (leather seats, dashboard, roof of the car, etc). The car had to be totaled with only 50,000 miles on it and hyundai said there was nothing that they could do about it. I went through my insurance company and filed a total loss and my $25,000 car was settled for $11,000.
2003 hyundai sante fe gls - drove through a 2 inch deep puddle.lost power steering, battery light and brake light flashed then a rubber burning smell started.drove the car for two additional days after the repair shop couldn't find anything.then driving home from work, airbag light turned on, brake light turned on battery light turned on, all analog instruments failed, tach failed, braking became inconsistent and engine started missing.i drove directly to repair shop, as i made my final turn into the repair shop the power steering failed then the car shutoff.early report from mechanic is a failed alternator - my third one in the last year.i think i have a larger electrical problem with the car, fans fluctuate in speed for the past couple of years and every time it rains i get flashing brake and battery lights.losing the power steering twice in three days is a little unsettling...## vin failed ##

One day in 2003 while driving down the interstate, my 2003 santa fe died and then immediately started again, all by itself.it would happen about once a month, suddenly with no warning.now it occurs almost every time i drive on the highway.it also has occurred at slower speeds.once at a stoplight, it died but did not start again.everything shuts down, even steering.dealer says they can not fix it without seeing it happen.of course, it never occurs for them.
Santa fe has problems with the location of the gas pedal and the brake pedal and the sonata has problems with the engine operation. *mr the consumer experienced problems with the santa fe (suv) vin#[xxx] and a sonata gls vin#[xxx].these were both new vehicles.the sante fe displayed extended stopping distance and the vehicle surged forward intermittently.the brake pedal and accelerator pedal were similar in height.the sonata gls displayed problems, the first to second month with a backfire and or explosive noise upon the starting the vehicle.the vehicle would stumble when speeding, and felt as if the a/c compressor was turned on. *sc information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I took my 2003 hyundai santa fe in to the dealer to replace the alternator.i was told that their is a rust hole a little larger than a golf ball in the cradle where the right front control arm bolts into the cradle. They told me it could be a safety hazard!and i should seriously consider replacing the cradle to the tune of 1700 dollars!
Vehicle reads different mileage than what its suppose to be. *ph the vehicle locks itself.(keys on peg in the house and it locks. Per consumer) *sc
While driving at 65 mph vehicle caught on fire.
The paint is deteriorating, my fuel pump had to be replaced and my car won't start. I replaced the alternator, battery, crankshaft sensor and still won't start. I also have a break leak that i've tried to fix a few times
My daughter and her friends were driving the 2003 hyundai sante fe home from a ski trip in the mountains. She said the car keeps accelerating on it's own up to 55-60mph, especially when they were going down hill. When she put the car in park or neutral, the car's engine rev up to 3000 rmp on it's own.she barely put her foot on the pedal and it was driving 55 mph.she had to use the brakes a lot to slow the car down.it was very scary but they manage to make it home safely.i did some research on the internet and seems like a lot of people had the same problem.
We purchased this vehicle used in june of 2014 with 62,450 miles on it. The exterior and interior were in great shape. The vehicle was taken to a hyundai dealer in july for an inspection of the rear suspension per a recall. At that time a complete inspection was done, with only a small oil leak found on one axle shaft. Two months later the vehicle was take back to the dealer for a recall for a broken spring. At this time a second inspection was completed. This time several issues were found from corrosion including leaking transmission lines, leaking engine oil pan, leaking boots at the front drive axles requiring them both needing to be replaced. The service manager at the hyundai dealer stated he had never seen a vehicle with this level of corrosion. All components under the vehicle have extensive corrosion with apparently a rapid rate of deterioration. The vehicle is used only on-road being driven by our son to and from college. The dealer has no explanation as to what could be the cause of the rapid deterioration. All under body components appear to be vulnerable to this high level of deterioration. The dealer is willing to repair the vehicle but the dealer stated there is no way to tell what or when other components could possibly fail, such as the brake lines etc. Hyundai was contacted regarding the concern but stated there was no action they would take at this time. They did reluctantly agree to call the dealership to inquire with them about the extent of the corrosion.
Engine died multiple times while in operation on a city street going straight, approximately 35-40 miles per hour and on hiway going approx. 60 mph twice. We no longer drive it on a hiway. Repair shop can't find anything wrong.

2003 hyundai santa fe, 180k miles, 2nd owner. Customer states: fuel leaking from fuel tank onto ground; safety concern & fire hazard. Unable to park in garage/driveway. Fuel light on; low fuel level. Filled with $7.00 in gas ($2.70/gal). After fueling, fuel gauge hasn't moved. Added more fuel & set gas station fuel nozzle to auto stop when full. Gauge says 3/4 tank (normally would read full tank).then drove 12 miles no issues. Parked on residential street for 1-2 days. Searched online found 'warranty extension' on fuel tank. Driving to certified hyundai dealer, 15 miles away. Drove 5 miles on interstate, losing power. Pulled off at nearest exit, died while driving in traffic, over interstate bridge. Oil, battery, check engine light, etc. On. Cars behind me mad, honking, rush hour. Got it started, nowhere safe to pull over, lane ieads me to interstate, now headed in opposite direction towards home. Lost power, died again, <1 mile from home on exit ramp. Let sit 4-5 hrs. Dark;11pm. Restarted, drove few feet, died. Dark outside. Put in neutral, roll backwards, steer onto shoulder for safety. Dot/sheriff tagged car next a.m. Called hyundai consumer affairs & was advised to tow to dealer. I did. Hyundai stating outside of milage allowance & not covered. Why is this not a safety recall? this is a public safety hazard! even when parked! fuel leaks/issues put the public at risk! not safe parking in my garage/driveway, public/residential streets, neighborhoods, schools, businesses/retail properties, let alone driving. What if a cigarette is tossed by a passerby, rolls under a leaking fuel tank & leads to fire, damages, injuries and/or death(s) to those in/around vehicle? this should be taken more seriously!it's a public safety hazard! mileage shouldn't matter (see lexus recall, june 2018; cbs news). Cust=single mom & ft college student=the struggle is real. Please advise.
Went to thedealer to get my vehicle fixed 4 times and got charged for a tune up that i did not need. The last and 4th time when picking up my vehicle , they had the parts out after i had told them 2 times not to work on it anymore and they took it apart anyway. They told me i needed to tow it out of their shop . I told them i wanted the car back just the way i brought it there . They gave my a much stressful hard time finally they put it back and i got it back the next day in worst condition. There is a lot more story but not enough letters left so i will end it here for now.
2003 santa fe stalls at highway speeds but immediately starts again.stalling has also been noticed at lower speeds and while idling at stop lights.this occurs sporadically and with no indication that anything is wrong, check engine light is not on so a diagnostic scan is useless.i have seen many other complaints about the same problem with no solution from hyundai.also recalls on 2001 and 2002 for the same problem.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. While the contact was driving approximately 20 mph, the engine revved which caused the rpms to increase excessively high. The brakes were applied andthe gear was shifted into the park position to stop the vehicle.the vehicle restarted and was driven to a parking lot, and theengine was turned off. The contact waited fifteen to twenty minutes before resuming to operation with extreme caution. Currently, the vehicle was being diagnosed at an authorized dealer. The failure mileage was 131,000.
Dt*: the contact stated there has been a continuous hesitation and surging of the vehicle, as well as, extremely poor gas mileage. The vehicle was inspected by a service dealer, the hesitation and surge could not be recreated and no problem was diagnosed. When inspected again by the same service dealer, a detached cable was found under the vehicle. There was alsoa spring under the accelerator pedal found to be disconnected. Once the items were repaired, the mileage improved, but the hesitation and surging continued.an independent mechanic test drove the vehicle and confirmed there was in fact a hesitation and a surging. On the next visit to the service dealer, a knock sensor was replaced. The manufacturer was alerted who recommended the contact try another service dealer. Upon inspection by another service dealer, the knock sensor was observe to be loose and it was crimped to tighten it. However, the hesitation and surging continued.the consumer stated the vehicle has stalled on several occasions. Updated 08/25/06.

2003 hyundai santa fe.consumer writes in regards to electrical problems and engine compartment fire.the consumer stated while driving, the engine began to overheat.
Purchased as a used vehicle with 30,000 mi. In 2008 from a dealership with owners manual missing.on 8-1-2010 while driving home from work, the vehicle engine stopped running on a bridge on a busy roadway, causing the vehicle to lose power steering and power brakes.other vehicles in the area had to take evasive action causing a immediate hazardous condition.upon having the vehicle towed to a repair garage, it was determined that the cause of the catastrophic engine failure was the result of a defective timing belt that was a known issue for this model and make of vehicle.the manufacturer recommended changing of the timing belt was to be 60,000 miles, thus telling me the belt should have been changed in 2007 at the 60,000 mile mark.as you can see, i bought the vehicle in 2008 will 30,000 miles on it (no owners manual).i was told i was to be responsible for the cost of the replacement motor, which of course was a used motor because they redesigned the 3.5 liter engine in 2005 when this problem was evident and those engines would not fit my 2003.why was there not a recall then on this for engine failure at that time?they had replaced the belt with a new design timing chain for the newer vehicles.while my vehicle was under repair, another 2003 santa fe was also in for the same issue. Fortunately, i was not injured, but the possibility was there. Aminute earlier, i was traveling down a steep grade prior to the engine failure. This looks like an inherent problem for the hyundai 3.5 liter engine, they had to get my replacement engine from texas.were used car buyers aware of this problem with the hyundai 3.5 liter engine models prior to 2006? this is a serious safety violation.the vehicle engine failed without warning!how about hyundai reimbursing me $4000.00?
While driving at any speed vehicle stalled. Driver was not able to restart vehicle, and had it towed to the dealer for inspection.mechanic determined that the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced, and replace it. However, the problem recurred, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for inspection.then, mechanic replaced the engine compartment relay, fuel sensor assembly, and the computer module. Consumer stated there has been 6 incidents/failures that are causing serious concerns with starting and stalling. It became more frequent and started happening while driving santa fe on roads and highway. Consumer have confidence in the vehicle and fear of it stalling in the center lane where there is little options except getting hit and possible getting seriously injured.
On 10/23/04, my 2003 hyundai santa fe with 21,600 miles, began to experience a very low idle and then stalled out each time i had to stop at a stop sign or a stop light.i could start the vehicle without a problem each time but as soon as i would shift into "drive", the car would repeat the low idle/stall out process and i could not move the car an inch.the car had to be flatbed towed to the dealership.the dealership said they drove the car and hooked the car up to the computer but could not duplicate or find a reason for the problem. On 10/29/04, two days after i picked the car up from the dealership with a clean bill of health, the exact same scenario occurred again and the car was again flatbed towed to a different dealership to try to get another mechanic's view of the situation.they also could not duplicate the problem and nothing was found wrong with the car.i am unable to rely on this vehicle but am frustrated that 2 different hyundai dealerships cannot seem to discover the problem.they keep telling me "there is nothing wrong with the car".
Vehicle stalled intermittently while driving at any speed.dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.
While drivingvehicle "died" and would not restart.dealer diagnosedthe camshaft gear had broken.*scc
The vehicle jerked violently and then suddenly stalled several times on the highway at speeds around 60 mph, causing dangerous driving conditions.a few days later the vehicle would not start at all.the vehicle was brought to a repair facility and it was discovered that the crankshaft position sensor was cracked at the sensor end near the crankshaft and timing belt.replacing the part was labor intensive since several engine components had to be removed to reach the sensor, therefore the repair costs were high.the dealership wanted around $1,000 to replace with the part only costing $90.i brought the vehicle to an independent repair shop and had the crankshaft position sensor replaced, the vehicle now starts.both the hyundai dealership and hyundai motor america refused to cover repair costs while the vehicle was in need of repair and before i brought it elsewhere.both dealer and manufacturer continue to refuse now to reimburse costs after i had to go to a less costly repair facility.my case # with hyundai motor america is #3467755.i have also contacted the alternative dispute resolution line at the better business bureau.i notified the representative at hyundai that this same part was recalled on the 2 prior years models of santa fe (nhtsa campaign id# 03v520000) and that numerous complaints were made to nhtsa for the same problem with 2003 crankshaft position sensors.current nhtsa odi complaint #'s that are near exact matches for the 2003 model are odi id# 10238818, 10176719, 10133625, and 10115680.similar are #10203556, 10199900, 10195530, 10183323, 10128836, and 10050501.also see nhtsa campaign id 03v520000 and the epa recall #1791 - mfr# 49.a similar recall was done in canada, see transportation canada recall #2002008, campaign code r33.apparently the part continued to defective at the point of manufacturer in the 2003 models as well.high speed stalls and violent jerking posing risk of injury and death.
2003 hyundai santa fe with defective airbag control module. Consumer states that the mechanic hooked the vehicle up to the scanner that came across that problem. It will cost almost $400 dollars to have the airbag control module replaced.the dealer stated there was an internal fault code causing the air bag light to illuminate.the oil pan was leaking.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe.the contact stated that the vehicle would hesitate to accelerate, especially when driving uphill.the check engine light was illuminated and the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic several times where numerous repairs were performed but to no avail. The failure mileage was 119,000 and the current mileage was 122,000.
Dt*: the contact stated the engine failed without warning.this occurred while driving at various speeds and while at a stop.upon inspection of the vehicle it was noticed the undercarriage had corrosion, the windshield was etched on the passenger side above the windshield wiper, and the vehicle vibrated.the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem.the manufacturer has not been alerted.
The vehicle for the last 3 years was not getting the gas mileage suggested by manufacturer.it was taken repeatedly to dealer where we were told, "everything checked out just fine".all maintenance was done as required by dealer".as car became more sluggish and finally quit running altogether- we took it to an outside mechanic and learned that the catalytic converter had gone bad.i checked the internet and this is a common complaint with this vehicle- dealers are repairing transmissions and emission controls and customers are still complaining about bad gas mileage, sluggish vehicles.now that the catalytic converter has been replaced- the car is getting the correct gas mileage and running better.
I purchased a 2003 santa fe lx 4wd with the 2.7l engine.almost from the time i purchased the vehicle, it has been suffering from a sulfur smell.the dealer made one repair that seemed to last for about a week, unfortunately, the odour is back.the dealer claims that they cannot duplicate this concern, however, they only drive the vehicle 2 or 3 miles when i take it to them to be serviced.funny how everyone except the dealer can smell this foul disgusting odor.
I have a 2003 santa fe (march 2003 purchased). Shortly after purchase i reported to dealer that it jerks violently (stalls) and restarts at highway speeds and would sometimes just die at a idle stop light for no apparent reason (always started back up).the dealer inspected and could not find or replicate any issues. I called back again as this would continue to happen intermittently and is quite alarming.i travel as a healthcare consultant so i need a dependable car.just this week the car would not start at all and the check engine light came on.i finally got it started and it ran quite bad i drove to the dealer where they diagnosed a bad crank and temp sensor.they replaced the crank sensor and i was completely surprised at the cars performance on the highway.it accelerated smoothly and no more jerky violent stalls.the dealer said the sensor may have been bad all along and finally gave out.i was charged 440 dollars as they said it was not covered under the 100,000 mile warranty.i think this needs investigated further after reading all the similar reports i do truly believe there is a manufacturing problem with the emissions assembly at the very least the sensors being used in the vehicles.i am requesting a refund from hyundai in this matter.
The vin on my new 2003 hyundai santa fe is an invalid one.the dmv database that my inurance accesses has no record of this number.i spoke with the dealership who were less than helpful.at this moment, i have 9 days of temporary insurance for the car, but my agent informs me that unless the vin number is corrected or resolved, the car cannot be registered, licensed or insured in the state of california.
Very poor visibility while driving at night. Car dealer adjusted headlamps. This had no effect. The vehicle in question is not safe to drive at night with this style headlamp.
The airbag light stays on for no reason it has been on for 8months now and no fuses are blown and now my bright lights wont work when i flip them on the lights shut off.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked she smelled a fuel odor. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the fuel tank was corroded and leaking fuel. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 105,000. The consumer stated due to the severity of the leak from the rusted gas tank, she was forced to get rid of the vehicle and had to purchase another vehicle.
Kept smelling gas in the car, brought it to dealer.they said gas tank rusted and needs to be replaced.shortly thereafter, gas started leaking out. Called hyundai and they said nothing they could do, sorry, etc.warranty is up.this is the second rust problem with car.when i brought it in for subframe recall, car was unsafe to drive.also had front end fixed because of leaking struts.i feel that a rusted gas tank is not normal wear and tear and is due to a defect.now the car is again unsafe to drive, sitting in my driveway leaking gas.

Fueling car takes an inordinate amount of time.it is as if there is a blockage in the tank filler pipe.according to the dealer this is caused by an aging charcoal filter within the fuel system.the dealer is aware of the problem but has no explanation, nor suggestions for a fix.

Fuel gauge failed to read the correct fuel level in the gas tank.dealership serviced the vehicle 4 times, and replaced the fuel gauge once in an attempt to correct the problem. However, problem still exists.

2003 hyundai santa fe, 180k miles, 2nd owner. My vehicle is leaking gas from the fuel tank onto the ground. I can't even park my vehicle in my garage or driveway due to the possibility that it will catch on fire. I searched online and found out the vehicle was one that has had a warranty extension on the fuel tank, which is 15 years or 150,000 miles whichever comes first. My fuel light was on indicating my fuel level was low. I live 15 miles away from the nearest hyundai dealer so i was taking it in to have it inspected by a certified hyundai dealer. I filled up my tank with $7.00 of gas ($2.70/gal). After fueling i got into my car and started the car. I noticed the fuel gauge had not moved after fueling. I proceeded to fill up the car until full. Since it is not safe because i can see the file leaking, i cannot park on my property and parked on the street, as far away from other houses. It did not feel safe on a public street, in a residential neighborhood, just sitting there because the possibility of it catching on fire and exploding in flames. What if a driver flicked out a cigarette and it rolled under my vehicle, catching it and anything around it on fire? i attempted to take it to the dealership, after filling it with a full tank of gas. While driving to the dealership, the vehicle started loosing power. I pulled off onto the nearest exit and it died, oil light, battery light, check engine light came on (etc). Cars behind me where honking during rush hour traffic. Able to get it started again and decided to try to get home again. Vehicle lost power again & died, this time not restarting, even after sitting 12 hours. I called a tow truck and had it towed to the dealer. Hyundai is stating i am outside of the miles allowance. Why is this not a mandatory recall? this is a public safety hazard' even when parked! time/mileage shouldn't matter. Many others like mine.

My wifes vehicle is a 2003 hyundai santa fe with approx. 75,000 miles on it.we've purchased it new.about a year ago, she brought the car to a stop and it suddenly started lurching forward.she was able to arrest it in 10-12 feet.no damage occurred.about two months later, the exact same thing happened with the same results.then, six weeks ago, as she was backing out of the driveway, and rolling a few miles an hour in reverse, it happened again.this time, after doing a uncontrolled donut in the street she hit a neighbors garage and a utility pole before the car stopped, in spite of her frantically braking.fortunately, there was no one in the street at that time.damage to the garage was $2300.+ and the car was another $1925.+.two weeks ago, it happened again after stopping in traffic.this time she hit the back of a pick-up truck.no damage to the truck, but $1710+ to her front end.each accident cost us $250 in deductible.the car is being repaired right now and we will trade it in as soon as it is fixed.
The paint is deteriorating, my fuel pump had to be replaced and my car won't start. I replaced the alternator, battery, crankshaft sensor and still won't start. I also have a break leak that i've tried to fix a few times
The rear driver side door does not always unlock with the remote.the dealer and hyundai refuse to give me a loaner so i can bring the vehicle back a ninth (9th) time to have it inspected for this and many other concerns so i am unable to have the concern addressed.

In my 2003 hyundai santa fe, the door latch chrome plating is so thin that it wore out and cut my wife's hand and my hand.this is a defect on both sides of the car.i complained to the dealer and they said that the defect was out of warranty.this is not the most serious defect but, quoted from cars.com "hyundai has issued a recall for 91,202 sonata vehicles from the 2002-03 model years, according to the national highway traffic safety administration. The recall is due to a thin chrome plate on the interior door handle."when will the fix mine.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe.while opening the passenger side door, the contact's finger was gashed by the handle.he found a split in the chrome plating of the door handle.the dealer was unaware of this defect.the manufacturer stated that they would send a packet and check back within 4 - 6 weeks.the contact feels that the manufacturer is covering up the issue because they have not inspected similar models with the same construction.the current and failure mileages were 100,000.
My emergency brakes went out while me and my 8 year old daughter was driving down a highway.

The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The contact was driving 35 mph when the gear shifter would not move into gear, causing the vehicle to stall in the middle of traffic. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence.the manufacturer was notified of the failure who stated there were no recalls and any repairs would be at the contact's expense. The failure mileage was 107,000.
My 2003 hyuandai sante fe stalls anytime the crankshaft position sensor gets hot (at least this is what the service manager [mr. Labese] at john amato auto - milwaukee, wisconsin explains). I've had countless close call vehicle accidents and i have taken my vehicle in to be repaired only to have the vehicle stall over and over again even after the part above was replaced. This is very dangerous and very unsafe i have been very lucky to this point!
3 times this happened on said day.driving on freeway.with cruise control on car lurched forward jerking all three of us.a couple days later sitting at an intersection waiting for the light to change green. The car lurched forward again.tossing me back causing my foot to come off the brake!luckily i was able to get my foot back on the brake before i moved too many feet into the crosswalk.i spoke to beaverton hyundai and they said they were unaware of this...i mentioned it was out on the internet and on the hyundai forum.i was told it was not their forum therefore they don't look at it...i have owned the car for 10 years.this has happened several times through the years i have driven this car but it is getting worse and scarier!!
Leak in the transfer case.
The passenger from sub frame broke dropping the lower control arm bending the wheel out.this was at big o tires checking alignment.i see there was a class action law suit on this matter covering 2001-2003 santafe's.the front sub frame must be replaced.
The consumer stated that when he stepped on the pedal to give the vehicle gas to take off, it did not move.the consumer had to apply excessive force to get the vehicle to move.the vehicle had been in the shop 3 times, and the last time the mechanic put in a sensor, but that did not make a difference because the car still was not responding to the pedal.the dealer/mechanic said that there was no way to fix this problem.*scc
When the gas pedal was applied, the vehicle had a delay in accelerating. Dealer notified. The dealer stated that the problem was normal.the vehicle did not accelerate normally.the consumer said that other santa fe models had displayed the same problem. *scc
From time to time, my 2003 hyundai santa fe with an automatic transmission jerks violently while under normal operating conditions.sometimes this occurs while traveling at a steady speed (around 40 mph) and sometimes it happens just after i resume acceleration afterlifting off of the accelerator (coasting).i really have to 'baby' the accelerator all of the time or this would happen much more often.there is a definite problem here, which could potentially cause harm to myself and others on the road.unfortunately, i know that nothing will ever be done to correct or address this problem.*ln
Grinding sound from transmission of 2003 hyundai sante fe.
I bought a used 2003 hyundai santa fe about two years ago.the vehicle jerks when changing gears, actually lurches forward.i looked online to see if anyone else had this problem and there was a huge list.i think there needs to be a recall done for the transmission.
On many occasions our 2003 santa fe has a problem with the transmission slipping and then violently jerking or catching back into gear, causing passengers to be slammed forward and backward in the vehicle. This occurs at anywhere from 20-65 mph and happens randomly.has been taken to the dealership on 3 separate occassions with the exact same results - could not duplicate complaint.

The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that when the vehicle was parked and he attempted to accelerate, the transmission malfunctioned and the vehicle lunged forward;the duplicate failure occurred when he shifts to reverse gear. The failure occurred intermittently after the vehicle was parked and then restarted. The dealer stated that the diagnostic test did not indicate any error codes. He called the manufacturer three times and was instructed to take the vehicle to the dealer and if there were no codes, he would have to pay the repair expense. The current mileage was approximately 32,100. The failure mileage was 28,546.
My 2003 santafe has an idle problem.it feels like it might stall when i'm sitting at a red light.this happens intermittenly and their is no code in the computer so they say they can't replace any parts.the car has bucked about 5 or 6 times over the last 2 months while i'm driving down the interstate at about 70mph.it's been to the dealer 3 times and they can not find the problem.i'm ready to get rid of the car because of frustration.

This vehicle (2003 hyundai santa fe)started having transmission problems just be for the warranty expired (100,000 miles), but we were told at the dealer that the warranty did not cover the power train system.so we paid to have some work done.but just today we woke up and went out to use the vehicle, and it will not go in gear, will not in neutral so we can move it or push it.it's just locked up, (fluid leaves are ok) if this were to happen to any one with this kind of vehicle in traffic it could be traffic problem.i do know others who own this kind of vehicle and do not have any problems, but i also know of one individual that has had transmission problems with theirs.so i'm just concerned on if i am the only person with this problem or if their are others, and why if they offer a 100,000 mi. Warranty dose it not cover the drive train? this dose not make sense to me.one very unhappy vehicle owner.p.s.this vehicle is registered to my wife, and her llc.
I purchased a used 2003 hyundai santa fe in december 2008. The vehicle operated well for six months. Suddenly, while driving on the freeway one day, the car began to jerk. The problem went away for two months, then returned more violently with the vehicle turning off while at stops and driving in traffic, even at 35 to 40 mph. I noticed the rpm's drop suddenly when the car jerks. However, the check engine light doesn't come on, and neither do any other indicators that something is wrong with the vehicle. I have paid to get the crankshaft sensor and coils repaired on the car, but the problem still persists. After almost three years of having the vehicle, which i am still paying off to the finance company, the car still jerks while driving even at 30 mph within in a 2 mile radius of my home. I have to drive the vehicle slowly, without accelerating and sudden stops to keep the jerking to a minimum. I have called hyundai usa about the problem, but they cannot do anything because i no longer have the warranty, since i am the second owner. The hyundai dealership cannot pinpoint the problem and neither can other mechanic shops. I am practically paying for a car that doesn't work! i have seen that there are several other owners who have this problem, and have heard that there was a recall in canada about the same issue on the car jerking, but not in the united states. I seriously believe there needs to be a recall for this same problem here in the u.s. Before a serious accident occurs, such as with toyota vehicles.
I took possession of a brand-new hyundai santa fe (2003 - 25 miles on odometer) on friday, june 20, 2003.saturday, june 21,2003 i took the car out for a drive.driving at 35 miles mph the transmission shifted (by it self) out of "drive (d") into ...? (neutral, i'm guessing by the revving of the engine).the car rolled slowly due to its own forward momentum, however, pressing on accelerator succeeding in only revving up the engine - "drive" refused to engage.several attempts were futile.i shut the car down (after limping to the side of a 6-lane road in traffic!).waited a few moments (perhaps a minute or two) and restarted the car.the transmission once more would not engage into drive.i shut the car down again and waited a little longer (perhaps two -three minutes) and started it again.this time the transmission engaged and i drove it home - very carefully!i contacted the dealership (keyes hyundai in van nuys) and had the car flatbed towed to the dealership.i have no idea what the outcome will be.i have to wait until monday, june 23 at 7:30a.m. (pst) for their service department to open.meantime - i have a brand new car that has spent one day in my physical possession and will have spent over 72 hours sitting in the dealerships service bay!*nlm
My 2003 hyundai santa fe with an automatic transmission, started to shift differently.it would buck when shifting into a higher gear, if i attempted to go up a steep hill, the vehicle would lose all power and the check engine light would come on.i took it to a dealer, they replaced a sensor, said the vehicle would be fine.i drove it home only to have it still shift with a buck.i took the vehicle back to the dealer only to be told, after they kept it overnight, that it would need a $2800 transmission replacement.of course, being a second owner, the warranty ran out at 60k.
Ihad great difficulty controlling the steering of my car. I took it to the dealer where they said they found nothing wrong. In january of this year during a snow storm i actually ran off the highway and down a slight slope. I then took my car to my repair shop where a corroded and bent training arm was discovered and replaced. I am now in the midst of a rebate from the company as the car was recalled for that particular part.when i took the car to have it checked for this defect i was told that the other trailing arm was not corroded enough to be replaced and that it would be sprayed to protect it from further damage. I am not comfortable at all with this remedy as i am now hearing the same noise from the left side as i heard from the right side when the problem began.why can't the company do the right thing fix these problems so that those of us who drive hyundai products can feel safe.yours truly, marie e. Enwright
Car jerks violently when at highway speed even though it has new shocks, struts, and front drive axles. The transmission also seems to engage suddenly when moving forward from complete stop. Regular maint. And transmission inspection performed.
I have a 2003 hyundai sante fe and i have had continual transmission problems since i bought it in 2004. My first encounter started around 37,000 miles, the vehicle began to slip/hesitate while driving on the road. The dealer couldn't find the problem three separate times. I tolerated the nuisance for about a yr until one day i was driving and the transmission 'got stuck'! i had to drive home in first gear for 15 miles! the dealer couldn't re-enact it, but definitely charged me $1800 to flush the transmission, amongst various other 'part replacements'. The problem seemed to 'disappear' for about 4 mths and it started again! transmission would jerk, skip and miss no matter what speed i was going, but then disappear.. It was moody and intermittent, not constant and dangerous. The dealer still couldn't find the problem! then one day i placed the vehicle into reverse and it jerked back hard!! my head was close to hitting the steering wheel. At first i thought the vehicle was struck by another vehicle, but soon realized that it was the transmission because it began to squeal and whine! the serpentine belt and the crankshaft pulley were replaced and the problem seemed to be corrected. Just two months later, i was stranded on the highway, again, without any forewarning! i was driving my son to school and all of a sudden, the tranny didn't want to go into gear, again, and it jerked a few seconds after it slipped. I had to creep my way home by driving about 500-750 ft and then the tranny slipped and violently jerked, put vehicle in reverse a few times and then tried again.ever since i began to have these problems when i first bought the car i have been searching online and following the large amount of similar and worse complaints regarding the same problems.i am surprised that this problem has not been addressed and further looked into.please, research this.. Please investigate this type of problem, please.
Recently, my 2003 santa fe has had a grinding/whinning/rubbing noise when i take off at low speeds. Sounds like might be transmission, wheel bearing or pulley, but not sure.took vehicle to dealship and his analysis was that the noise was coming from the idler pulley.ordered new pulley and will replace when it comes in. This noise would come and go at speeds between 5 - 25 mph and would last for several seconds up to a minute.
A crack in the windshield appeared one day. Nothing had hit the windshield. It is a small arc on the drivers side about 3" from the bottom of the windshield. When i brought it to the dealership they said that something hit it and the heat inside the car caused it to crack. The place where they said something hit the windshield only the point of a pin could fit in. I know nothing hit it.one a few occasions i have noticed a grinding sound coming from the transmission. I also have had the abs engage when the breaks were not being applied and the road surface dry. There wasn't a reason for them to engage.
Since buying my car used in 2006, my 2003 hyundai santa fe slips out of gear and violently jerks. On the highway it scares one half to death. And i see that there are many other complaints of this problem along with the vehicle stopping altogether. This problem happens so intermittently without an engine check light, that i knew a dealership would not be able to find a problem. Now the vehicle won't shift out of first gear.
At approximately 47,000 miles, check engine light came on.in addition, vehicle experienced a sudden occasional jump in idle to 3000 rpm+ while in park and drive after three minutes or so of operation. While in drive, vehicle lunges dangerously forward. When this occurs, ignition is turned off, and restart takes several attempts.after restarting, the vehicle will sputter and refuse to accelerate normally for 30-60 seconds.vehicle also stalls occasionally after 3 minutes or so of use when accelerating from a full stop.vehicle was brought to napelton hyundai, west palm beach, fl on nov 30. Crankshaft position sensor and camshaft sensor were replaced.before leaving dealership with service manager present and automatic transmission in park, vehicle idle suddenly spiked to 4,200 rpm. I was told dealer was closed, and to drive it home.on december 5, vehicle again stalled again in traffic at intersection almost causing a collision. After restarting, it refused to accelerate normally for 30-60 seconds. Vehicle was towed to back to napelton hyundai because both the stalling and sudden acceleration are serious concerns that make this santa fe unsafe to operate.the service manager agreed fully that the vehicle was unsafe to drive.on dec 20 i was advised that the vehicle was not repaired because attempts to duplicate the problems were unsuccessful.i was told to pick it up and drive it.i refused to do so.napelton had over 20 days to detect and correct these major safety issues, and i will not drive hyundai's failure into an accident.a review of nhtsa defects reported for this santa fe for 2003-2005 model years reveals over 40 similar incidents, some involving collision and injury.these are categorized under several different components including vehicle speed control, electrical system, vehicle speed control: accelerator pedal, other, power train: automatic transmission, and equipment.perhaps the santa fe's can be recalled before deaths result.
My hyundai santa fe 2003, 4 cylinder, 2.4 liter engine stalled 4 times. Engine light came on. I took it to service diagnosed with crank precision sensor. No covered under warranty. Doingresearch i found out that the 2001 and 2002 was recalled for this matter. Also found out that many 2003's are having the same problem.also i find it disturbing that hyundai wont cover this because it is and electronic part but the engine can just stall at any moment. Because it was recalled 2yrs prior should raise a red flag.i will be calling hyundai corp.thank yousoraya garcia
Consumer noticed fluid from the vehicle was on the ground, upon inspection of the vehicle, the dealer stated the axle needed to be replaced.
The clutch on my 2003 hyundai santa fe (58,000 miles)went out on the nj turnpike at the start of a week long family vacation. Maxon hyundai in union, nj claimed that my driving had burned the clutch out (i have been driving stick for 12 years and my previous car- a saturn- had over 100,000 miles on it and the original clutch when i sold it) and when the clutch went it damaged the fly wheel. They claimed that the fly wheel, though part of the power train supposedly covered under their warranty, was not covered since it was my fault that it was damaged. They further indicated that replacing the clutch and putting the old fly wheel on would just cause me to burn out another clutch leading me to believe that the fly wheel is what caused the clutch to go in the first place. Anyway, i did pay for the clutch to be replaced but not the flywheel and then i traded it in on a new saturn vue. I was outraged at the way i was treated by both the dealer and by hyundai corporate when i called them. I would really appreciate any advice you could give me as i got a whole $4,500 for the vehicle that i paid $17,000 for just 3 years ago and this was after i had to pay a repair bill of $1600 and pay $500 for a rental car so that our vacation was not ruined.
Dt*: the contact stated while slowing to a stop at 20 mph the clutch failed making it difficult to change gears.the vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection.upon inspection, the transmission fluid was changed, however no additional repairs were made.the manufacturer was not alerted.
The vehicle was driving on the way home.the following day the vehicle would not go into gear.the clutch is not covered under warranty.
Bad clutch after 39,000 miles - dealer said not covered and never seen defect in over three years - checked a web site where there were a number of complaints regarding early clutch failures.
I own a 2003 hyundai santa fe.it broke down on april 29th, 2006.my car was brought to fucillo hyundai in schenectady, new york.my car improperly diagnosed here as having a worn clutch.when i declined to have my car fixed at this location and took it to opitz transmission, it was discovered that the flywheel was broken as well.i contacted fuccillo, who declined to have the flywheel fixed under the warranty agreement that came with the purchase of the car.this warranty agreement does not state that the flywheel is not covered.i also contacted hyundai motor america and spoke with two different people.one told me the part was covered under warranty and should be fixed, another told me the part would not be covered.the cost of the flywheel was $1276 plus tax and could only be ordered through a hyundai dealership.i had my car fixed by opitz transmission in schenectady, ny.opitz transmission agrees that the flywheel was poorly made and should have been covered under the warranty.i have contacted the attorney general's office, they forwarded my letter and information to the nys motor vehicle safety division, who in turn told me to contact this web site.i have letters, receipts, and information concerning this matter that i would like to forward to someone in this division.
Thr cruise control accelerates the car for no apparent reason.the automatictransmission jerks when shifting dislodging all passangers.the accelerater takes a few moments to get the car going.the problems with the transmission and the cruise control happen at all speeds, weather conditions and road conditions.
I have a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The rear center seat belt was never used by anyone. We just kept it clipped to the attachment on the seat. It quit working about 6 months ago. Recently, the right rear passenger seat belt began having intermittent problems staying latched. My 6 year old son sits in that seat so i was very concerned.i took my car in to the dealership where i bought it and they said the warranty ran out on seat belts 4 months ago so i would have to pay to have them replaced. I don't' understand how a safety issues such as a defective seat belt is not covered. It is obvious that the center seat belt was not due to wear and tear since no ever sat there.i am having these to seat belts replaced at my cost. So far the left rear seat belt has not shown any signs of defect.i have an 8 yr old son that sits there.i don't know if i should replace that too. What is my guarantee thatseat belt is going to work in a collision? obviously there is something wrong with these seat belts. I have never had a vehicle where the seat belts just quit working after 5 years. There is something seriously wrong here.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the rear seat belts failed to lock while trying to attach a child safety seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the latching mechanism would not engage. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 111,000.
In my 2003 hyundai santa fe, the drivers side seat belt receiver, female part, has worn out twice in 99,000 miles.the first time it was under warranty, the second time i had to pay.i have never had a seat belt receiver ware out before.this is a serious defect that nhtsa should address.
The contact owned a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, a tractor trailer collided into the driver side of the contacts vehicle. The air bags did not deploy and the seat belt failed to restraint the contact. A police report was filed. The contact sustained severe injuries to his chest and back. Medical attention was required. The vehicle was towed and seemed destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.updated 03/16/16*ljupdated 03/22/16.
Driver's side seat belt comes unlatched when hitting certain bumps.vehicle is out of warranty so dealer wouldn't replace it and hyundai has no recall. Guess hyundai is waiting for sufficient people to be killed in accidents before addressing the problem.sounds like the gm ignition switch debacle.
My seat belt all-of-a-sudden started popping out after being snapped in place.it has done this a number of times since last week. Yesterday, it must have done it about five times.i have to keep snapping it in place and tugging on it to make sure it is secure.it is especially unnerving when it occurs while driving.you may lean to the side and all-of-a-sudden it pops out.i never know when it will happen, but my greatest concern it may fail when i need it most, like in an accident.
The airbag indicator would not go out after start of engine. Brought car back to dealer where i was advised that due to a short in the seat belt pretensioner that the circuit that tied the airbags with the sensors in the bumpers etc. Would keep the airbags from deploying. Dealer indicated they were ordering a new part to replace the seat belt pretensioner and furnished me with a loaner. They did not want me to drive the car in this condition since it would take 2 days to get a new part. *la
While placing the seat belt onit broke.consumer informed the dealer that the seat belt broke.
I have a 2003 santa fe that has exceeded its warranty. My 10 year old daughter was buckling her safety belt and the whole safety belt came out with the bolt. Hyundai said that its not covered under warranty even if this wasa safety issue. Im concerned also about the other safety belts andwere my three children going to be safe. They told me i have to pay if i want this safety problem repaired.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. While driving at various speeds, a loud abnormal noise emitted from all of the tires and the brake warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake sliders needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
The brakes failed as i was backing out of my driveway. This vehicle was purchased and used by my son in the metro new york - new jersey area. It is involved in the hyundai recall campaign #124 because of a concern with corrosion since it was operated in 'the salt belt' for many years. (i obtained the vehicle from him and it has been in florida for the past few years.) i believe that the same corrosion from road salt attacked the brake lines on the vehicle and caused this failure. This could have resulted in serious injury or death had i been on the highway. The aaa automobile club driver who picked up the vehicle for transport to my service station noted that he has repeatedly seen this problem with the sante fe model.i believe this is an issue that nhtsa should investigate so that others in the class can be spared injury or death. Aside from the inconvenience and loss of the vehicle's use, i had a direct expense of $455.59 to make the repair.
I had new brake pads and rotors put on my car last year 2012 because the brake shoe fell off on the drivers side.i began to have a scrapping noise in march 2013 and then on approximately march 22, 2013 when i was returning from the doctor's office my car seized when i was at a stop.it would not move forward and i could not turn.two guys came to assist me to push me to the side of the road and the car would not budge.i had my car towed to goodyear in schenectady.i needed to replace my brake pads, rotors, and pistons.the repair cost $476.00.the car is now making a scrapping noise again.i have read multiple complaints regarding the brakes for this car and i believe that hyundai or the state authority should make a recall for the brakes, and associated parts.i would like to be refunded the repair costs for last year and this year.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the brake light would fluctuate on and off. The brake light would only remain erroneously illuminated until the contact added more brake fluid to the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer advised the contact that the abs control unit module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v131000(service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module ), but the contact stated that the remedy for the recall did not repair the failure. The failure mileage was 91,000 and the current mileage was 92,000.
Breaks lock up while drivingbad smell car wont move
The brakes do not brake properly and the stopping distance is extended before coming to a complete stop when car is driven in early morning.
At slow speeds, while lightly applying brakes, abs causes chatter and extends stopping distance.
Today 6/17 i was driving at speed limit, everything was fine just like a regular rainy day, i was braking like a should with time and distance. I come to a stop light and then continue, i started to feel that the car would suddenly slow down by itself like if it was braking on its own,and stopped in the middle of the street, the car was stuck the brakes were engaged and would not release. The abs and tcs off lights stayed on and my car was no longer operational. I purchased this car on 8/11/14 santa fe vin#[xxx] year 2003(odometer reader 1100311) model santa fe gls/xl. They even sold me an extended warranty for 24 month. At hub hyundai 17007 katy freeway, katy, tx 77094. I need to know if there has been a recall for this issue for this year model. My car was towed and now sitting in my driveway with locked breaks. I greatly appreciate your help with this issue.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe.while driving 4 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floor or within an inch of the floor when it was depressed.when he pumped the pedal, it resumed the proper position.throughout the day, the brake pedal would extend approximately two inches from the floor when it was depressed.if he stomped on the brake pedal, it would go all the way down as well.midas stated that they could find no failure and that it was a "hyundai problem".the master cylinder, brake pads, and fluid were cited to be functioning properly.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 148,000 and failure mileage was 145,000.
While applying brakes vehicle made a very loud noise. When taken to get serviced the cause could not be determined.
While driving at low speeds, the consumer heard a grinding noise when the brakes were applied and then the brake released after stopping and vehicle continued to roll. The consumer had to apply more pressure to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle.
Consumer had extened stopping. Please provide any additional information. Ts
2003 hyundai santa fe. Left front outer brake pad friction material fell out and was found on ground. Serviced front brakes and found 3 of 4 pads friction material broken away from steel backer. Same condition found on rear pads. Front pads had approx 20% friction material left and rear has approx 50%. Backer plates heavily rusted indicating parting of friction material occurred some time ago. I lucked out by not having to strongly apply the brakes after the pad fell out and before i discovered it. Drove approx 20 miles with the pad missing and steel backer did not touch the rotor (don't understand that). I have all parts if anyone wishes to examine them.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. When stopped while applying pressure to the brake, the vehicle jerked forward. The contact stated the failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians could not diagnose or duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000. Updated 03/08/11 updated 1/4/11
Abs pump initiated unnecessarily.while pump was running, braking power was lost and vehicle failed to stop, coasting through intersection.vehicle was eventually stopped by shifting transmission into neutral and using hand brake.
While driving to work , vehicle in front of me stopped abruptly , i stepped hard on the brake pedal i was going approx. 30 mph, the brake pedal pulsated ( absactivating) for a second or 2 and stopped ,and the brake pedal suddenly sank to the floor, the vehicle kept going, i pulled the emergency brake to try to stop, but it was too late i ran into the vehicle in front of me causing considerable damage to both vehicles. I contacted hyundai dealer and was told it is not a defect and also is not under warranty. I now have to have the car fixed at my own expense. I feel a recall by hyundai should be initiated since this seems to be common defect, please help!
I own a 2003 hyundai santa fe (v6 2.7l 4 wd). My issue has a long history. Once the brakes get warmed up (usually in stop and go traffic) and i begin to coast the brake pedal will shudder and i hear a low roaring or rubbing sound from the right front tire. The noise will stop if i depress the brake pedal - even just a little. This goes from a mild issue to a big problem - the vibration and noise was serious enough that i stopped and had the car checked immediately. I've been toldby dealerships one time it was nothing and another time, it was too dangerous to drive my car. The last (and hopefully last) solution was some sort of lubricant put on the brakes. I have yet to go a full year without this problem recurring. This has been going on since i bought my car and while some of the repairs have been covered, others have not and i believe i have paid for unnecessary repairs. I have had my car serviced for this issue 9 times. No more hyundai's in my future. Hopefully this info will help someone else and maybe someone at hyundai reads these complaints.
On september 29, 2005i was pulling into a space to park my vehiclei was proceeding at approximately 10 miles per hour or less i applied the brake and it was hard but the vehicle did not stop the car continued to roll into a parked carwhichreceived $58.77 worth of damageproceeding home as i approacheda red lighti sloweddown andthe brakes did not stop the vehicle i used my emergency brake to stop the car before i rolled into a car stopped at the lights.i had to use the emergency brake twice more getting home,i called hyundai roadside assisstance to have the vehicle flat bedded to lia hyundai of enfieldupon calling hyundai roadside assisstance the gentleman told me that their had been a letter sent out about a reprogram to the abs onsanta fe's i also contacted hyundai consumer affairs department and informed them of my problem and they told me they would forward me a letter requesting certain things pertaining to my vehicle and the problem i had part of that request was for colored pictures of my vehicle.my wife and i drove to lia and took digital pictures of my vehicle.we found a service bulletin on the front seatof my vehicle hyundai #04-01-002 dated march 4, 2005 subject (hydraulic electronic control unit hecu reprogramming.this also said it was for 2003 and 2004 my santa fe vehicles equipped with 3.5l v6 engines.my vehicle is a 2.7l v6 engine. Their representatives on 11-2-05 to inspectedmy vehiclei received a letter on friday 11-25-05 that they found no malfunctions or defects with the brake system.they also said that their inspector was unable to duplicate the condition i indicated caused my accident. My insurance adjuster inspected my vehicle on october 10, 2005 tje inspector's report states that craig the service manager said there is a brake problem and as yet had not been diagnosed.tech drove vehicle and brake pedal pushed back while trying to stop.
-while driving, the vehicle would not stop when the brakes were applied, the brake pedal went directly to the floor, causing the contact to turn the power off in order for the vehicle to stop.the contact stated that once he turned off the vehicle and turned it back onthe brakes worked fine.he stated that at the time of the incident hefelt a vibration and heard a loud clicking sound. Vehicle was currently at the dealership.updated 2/9/2007 - the vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were not able to duplicate the problem .
I drive a 2003 hyundai santa fe 3.5l v6. On thursday, march 2, 2006, i was driving slowly down a steep, snowy hill in my neighborhood. When i applied the brakes to slow the car in order to maintain control in the snow, the brake pedal kicked back and the brakes would not engage completely. They felt as though there was a mass of something solid blocking the pedal from depressing all the way. I pressed harder on the brake pedal, released the pedal, pressed it again, but nothing i did kept my car from continuing to propel itself downhill. I nearly sides wiped a parked car because, as my speed increased, the santa fe slid out of control on the snow. Only by some miracle was the rest of this busy neighborhood street empty. I finally regained control at the bottom of the hill. After that incident, the brakes worked fine. But this was not the first time this dangerous failure had occurred.and that seems to be the pattern of this problem: one or more incidents on a wet or snowy day followed by normal operation. In april of 2004, the original problem developed. Any time i tried to stop on a wet or snowy street, the brakes would slow the car, but not stop it completely. At that time, hyundai did find a problem. My service receipt says the abs actuator was bad, the ecu was reprogrammed, and the hydraulic unit failed and was replaced. However, this time, on march 3, 2006, even though the santa fe brakes had failed in the exact same way as 2 years ago, hyundai found no problem in the diagnostic it ran and did not attempt to make any repair. They actually told me that this is the way that the abs is supposed to work. I am certain that my brakes will fail again, but until my hyundai dealer says there is a problem, they'd like me to believe there isn't one. I'll try to remember that the next time i roll down a snow-covered hill.
At approx 13,000 miles i noticed a horrible grinding noise while applying brakes at hwy speeds.at first the noise was only present at hwy speeds but then after a couple hundred miles began to appear at all speeds.dealer stated that a pin fell out causing a caliper to freeze thus causing my brake pads to completely wear out!metal on metal...no brakes and the dealer refused to give me a loaner!just one of many problems with my santa fe!i've complained in the past about the abs kicking in when not needed and the noises and vibration that it makes and was told that it was normal.now i'm not sure.
Slowing down on a decline the car ran over a rough poprtion of road, the abs engaged (clicking sound) and the bake pedal went to the floor - car did not stop.dealer stated that there is a bulletin on this but no fix as of yet.
Vehicle has had a high pitched whine at 35 mph, coasting, accelerating, or braking. Noticeable to all drivers/passengers, but not to dealer technician/service manager. Have had it in three times with no condition found. As time goes by i am noticing that along with the noise, the brakes feel weak and i need only move my ankle without taking my foot off the pedal and the vehicle will move. On two separate occaisions when the vehicle was parked in my driveway for an extended period in the rain, it would not stop as i backed out of my driveway. I reprorted it to hyundai, and went back to dealer to have it checked and was told (without looking at the car) by dealer service manager that there was nothing wrong with it and i am wasting their time and would have to pay to have it examined. Factory representative who has never even seen the vehicle called to say there is no problem with my car and i need to learn how to use antilock brakes correctly ( i do know how to use them, i've always stopped when i press the brake pedal so i have a good idea of what to expect). Hyundai customer assistance representative barbara 800 633 5151 x45017 file#785260 never got anything accomplished on my behalf and never called back, never did anything to resolve this matter. I am concerned the car will not stop when i want it to so i only use it when absolutely necessary, not exactly what a new car is meant for.on top of all of that i cannot goto the nearest dealer as they will not look at it under hyundai's often mentioned 5 year bumper to bumper warranty.
While driving the brakes failed. Upon applying the brakes vehicle continued to coast.however, it happened again, andan accident occurred. Contacted the dealer, and was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. It happened a third time whichled to another accident, and the air bags did not deploy. Consumer was injured, and the vehicle was totaled.

Since the purchase of my vehicle, i have experience problems with the abs system, similar to those included in the recall of the 3.5l santa fe's.i know that recalls are vin specific, but i feel that hyundai and nhtsa should look into recalling the 2.7l lx santa fe also.my concern is that when stopping the abs will intermittently activate causing the braking distance to increase.when it activates, there is a rumbling noise and vibration and the vehicle will not stop at a safe distance.at many times, i have run through stop signs or entered too far into intersections at red lights due to the brake failure.sometimes i have to hit a bump or ice for this to occur, but more times than not, i am on a smooth, dry surface when it happens.i have mentioned this to the dealer on more than one occasion and they expect me to believe that this is normal abs function.
Consumer received nhtsa recall04v131000concerning abs brake failure. On certain sport utility vehicles equipped with 3.5 liter v-6 engines, 4-wheel drive and antilock braking systems (abs),if the brake pedal is depressed at speeds between 3 and 12 mph when the brake pad friction surfaces are wet, a vibration may occur between the brake discs and pads, causing abs sensor electronic signal noise to develop.at speeds below 5 mph, the abs sensor signal noise may cause the abs electronic control unit (ecu) to activate the abs, extending the stopping distance.this recall failed, dealerinspected the vehicle several times, but problem recurred.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the automatic anti-locking brake system shuts on and off without warning. The dealer would not diagnose the failure since the vehicle was not listed under recall campaign number 04v131000, service brakes, hydraulic: antilock: control unit/module which was related to the anti-lock braking system. The failure and current mileages were 61000.
Check engine light was displayed. While driving at a low speed toward a red traffic light, i applied the brakes with no results. The pedal went all the way to the floor. Released, re-applied - still no brakes. This failure resulted in the car crashing into the vehicle ahead of it that was waiting at the red stop light. Brought the vehicle into the dealer. They could not find any problems. I was charged .5 labor hours ($46.50) and sent on my way with no resolution or explanation of what caused the loss of brakes and resulting accident. On this same service day, after consulting with hyundai consumer affairs, i brought the vehicle to a 2nd hyundai dealer for a second opinion/inspection. I was charged another $19.95 but again, service could not identify a problem. After further research into the history of service on this new vehicle, i confirmed that it was serviced in april 2004 as a result of a recall notice i received (recall no. 065 - abs reprogramming). Although the service ticket indicated the correction included "performing recall #065. Hecu reprogramming", the summary and description of consequence listed in your nhtsa campaign id number 04v131000 is exactly what happened on the date of my accident. The day of the accident, i had my vehicle through a car wash. Neither hyundai dealer questioned whether the brake pad may have been wet and/or acknowledged that just over a year earlier, this vehicle was brought in under a recall involving the abs, the consequence of an extended stopping distance occurring and a possible crash resulting. In november 2004 (after the recall service was performed), the vehicle again displayed the check engine light. It was brought into the dealer, service could not identify any problems on inspection. The events and history leading to the current failure seems to indicate that the previous recall work performed was not effective.my follow up call to hyundai consumer affairs has not been returned to date.
While driving at low speeds and applying the brakes, there wasextended stopping distance which increased the possibility of an accident.currently, the manufacturer was conducting a recall on the abs electronic control unit.however, this vehicle wasnot included due to vin.the dealer stated that unless they could reproduce the symptom when they performed a test drive and if they couldshow a specific code number, the computer would not allow this problem to be fixed.recall campaign #04v131000. *sc
While sitting at a stop on a slight incline with brake engaged vehicle rolled forward. Driver engaged the brakes further, and felt vibration in brake pedal. Then, vehicle came to a stop. The dealer was not able to duplicate the problem.
2003 santa fe brakes not included in the warranty. Customer states that the manufacturer tells him that brake repair or replacement is not included in the warranty.the consumer stated one of the brake pads separated along the bonding between the brake pad surface and the steel backing plate. Of the 4 brake pads, 3 were slightly worn.the dealer informed the consumer the pads had worn out, however the consumer disputed the claim and stated it was a failed component not due to normal wear.
While applying the brake pedal, the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the consumer that thebrake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. Please provide further details.
My 28 month old 2003 hyundai santa fe with 15,809 miles began making a screeching sound in the rear. The dealers service department found that the rear disc pads had corroded and frozen to the calipers, making them inoperative. The service department sand blasted the pads and calipers and lubricated them. My impression was that they knew what the problem was when i described it. They said the problem was normalfor that vehicle and was not a defect and was thus not covered under the warranty.
Rusting brake rotors on my 2003 hyundai santa fe causing excessive noise and unsafe brake function. Hyundai wants to reprogram the abs ecu, recall 04v131000, instead of replacing the brake components with parts that will not rust. The reprograming will prevent the abs system from functioning properly at low speed and in my opinion compromises the function of the brake system.
While applying the brake pedal, the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the consumer that thebrake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. Please provide further details.
Dt: contact stated the rubber on the brake pedal came off, and because it was not their the contact daughter's foot slipped off and shehit the car in front. This happened on 9-16-05. The contact was not aware that it had come off.she was going approximately 35-40 mph. There was property damage. This is a brand new vehicle. The dealer said they never had such problems. The dealership told the contact to call the consumer center, and they referred her to the nhtsa safety hot line.
"takata recall" my driver side front wheel feels like it's gonna fall off all the lug nuts are tight
Brought my 2003 santa fe in for service when i was told that my steering rack was leaking and needed to be replaced at the cost of $1300 of course the warranty is up and hyundai won't do anything about it sent a letter to the ceo who really didn't seem to care about my problem my wife is going through cancer and we rely on the car to get back and forth to treatments i have owned 6 hyundai'sin the past so this will be my last one for the bad part is the car won't pass inspection if anyone else has had this problem please let me know the car has 118.000 miles on it and according to them that is a lot of miles so i guess they are saying the there cars don't last long.
I called hyundai after having an issue with my rear tire and just purchasing 4 brand new tires. The rear of the vehicle looked bent and after not understanding why it appeared this way i looked up recalls. I was given a recall champagne #090 by hyundai and told my vehicle was coved for repair. I brought the vehicle (unsafely) drove it 10-15 mph to the location to have it repaired. Approximately a month late the dealer contacts me and says that my vehicle is ready for pick up. I ask more questions about it and find out that they did the front frame of the vehicle and never even looked at the back! the dealer claims the champagne # 090 is for the front and the back frame is not covered. I went back and forth between hyundai and the dealer and i was told by hyundai it was covered but they never called the dealer directly. I was then told by hyundai i had to wait for the regional office to contact me. I literally waited till december 16. 2013 and still ended up with no help from hyundai. I did research and even being told afterwards that hyundai gave me a incorrect champagne # i still should of had the rear sub frame repaired and any parts which it causedother damages, for example; the bushings and a new rear tire. I also have proof that all 2003 hyundai santafe vehicles made from jan 2003 through june 2003, which covers my vehicle. Any help from your company is much appreciated since my twin boys who are in college was using this vehicle.
The right front rocker arm rusted out causing the right front wheel to no longer be properly supported. The lower support arm is no longer fastened to the front support frame. This caused the alignment to be off, improper and excessive tire wear (replaced tires well before the warranty was up).hyundai had a recall for this problem on other models (front sub-frame) but not on santa fe's (only rear trailing arm was included in the recall).when experiencing issues in multiple vehicles for the same reason, but different locations, all locations should be checked and not only the only that is prominent. A 5 minute additional inspection vs. The ultimate worse case scenario of a death, seems like a no brainer.hyundai knew this could be a problem and refused to address it.this has now cost us almost $3000 in repairs that could have been avoided. The mechanic that found the problem will not let the vehicle be driven from his shop, as it is too dangerous. The worst part is if that if this failure had occurred while traveling over the highway, it could have resulted in a severe crash, which as you know could result in serious injury or death.hyundai was not interested in hearing about the problem when we contacted them.
I have 78000 miles 03 santa fe and had leaking power steering lines they rusted right through.
2003 hyundai santa fe gs, fwd, 2.7l automatic - battery light intermittently comes on in wet weather and power steering is lost. Online research shows other owners of the same vehicle have taken their vehicles to the dealer with the same problem and have received no fixes. Losing power steering while driving is a severe safety hazard.

I was driving an i came yo a stop an began to turn up a side block wen i heard something like it was metal in mersl scrapping so i immediately pulled over an had to call my mechanic to come see what was that awful noise he layer showd up lifted my car in the air which he found a lot of corrosion an rust an my lower arm control an sub frame needing to be replaced underneath my car thats why my steering wheel was freewheeling
I had a problem for quite some time with hearing a clicking sound when i would turn my steering wheel, but it had recently got worse. On august 9, 2006 i took it in to the car dealership where i bought it.i was suppose to pick my sante fe up on august 11th but was informed that they were unable to find out what was causing the problem.one week later i still had not heard anything from the dealership so i called to see what the problem was.at this time they told me that the problem was an r&r motor mount ,so they would be replacing it, but they had to wait for the part to come in.another week passed and i called to see if my sante fe was done.they told me the motor mount had not corrected the problem and they would have to call in a specialty technician.the specialty technician could hear the problem but could not figure out where it was coming from.the dealership then told me i should just come and get my sante fe and wait until it got worse and then maybe they could figure out where the sound was coming from.i told them i was concerned that it could cause me to have an accident, they assured me this would not happen, but when i asked how they could be sure if they did not know what was causing the problem they told me to call the manufacture and see what they suggested.i contacted the manufacture and they told me they would help us find the problem.three days later i got a call from the manufacture and they told me they had done everything they knew to do and i needed to go and get my sante fe and wait until the problem got worse so they could pinpoint where the problem was coming from.again i voiced my concern about my safety.the manufacture assured me it was safe to drive, but i have my doubts if no one can figure out what is causing the clicking sound.on august 29 i went to the dealership and picked up my sante fe, they told me if it got worse to bring it back in.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated while driving 15 mph, the steering wheel locked. When the contact stopped the vehicle and restarted it, the steering wheel unlocked. The failure occurred twice. The battery and brake lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer stated that there were no complaints or recalls and advised the contact to bring the vehicle in to be inspected; however, the contact declined because of the cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 188,987.
The steering wheel failed to lock once the vehicle was turned off.
Dt:the consumer stated that he had to have the power steering unit rebuilt on the 2003 hyundai santa fe. At 54,000 miles he was told everything was fine with the power steering unit and at 77,034 it was checked again and was told it needed to be repaired again. When the consumer turns sharply a grinding noise could be heard. The caller stated that on short trips the grinding sound did not occur, it only occurred on trips longer than 50 miles.thedealer and manufacturer have not been contacted after the repair was done the first time. The caller said that there was a lot of black stuff in the fluid;it was the plastic from the replacement part.the caller stated that the invoice did not say that the part was replaced.it just stated that the dealer had found it to be okay for now.the caller was concerned that something might happen later.*mr
I have 78000 miles 03 santa fe and had leaking power steering lines they rusted right through.
Consumer complained about a rack and pinion steering problem. Consumer took vehicle back to the dealership on several occasions, yet problem recurred. Vehicle was covered under warranty, but dealership refused to give consumer a copy of the warranty, yet nothing was being done to improve the situation.
The interior door handles on my 2003 hyundai sante fe have chipping/peeling paint. (the chrome paint) opening the door to get out the chrome paint is sharp like a razor and cuts my fingers and my child's fingers as it is happening on all four doors of the vehicle. It gets embedded into your finger somewhat like a splinter but much more difficult to remove and is very painful.
My vehicle was recalled several years ago for rust in the front and rear suspension. It was apparently fixed by hyundai just putting a undercoat painting to the suspension, my problem is that the car is showing rust spots in the front suspension. I think hyundai should had replace the parts with new and rust proof parts instead of just putting undercoat painting. I know my vehicle is 11 years old, but i have kept it in very good condition with all service done at the dealer.
Consumer experiencing problems with windshield wiper blades, and has the impression that it is a common problem.*lathe dealer told the consumer the wiper blades but be loosened from the windshield manually before they are turned on or they will not work. The dealer also told the consumer to try and find any loose nuts and re-tightened them, which the consumer did, which did not keep the wipers from stopping in the middle of operation.the consumer was not satisfied with the installation of the running boards and had them replaced at his own expense.the heater made a noise as if something was caught in the fan box.
750.00 dollars for part 500.00 to put it in passenger side dash cant hyundai take pride and eat this bill safety problems with this big.

Car has clunking noise in front end. Mechanic said it's the subframe bushings going in and out of the subframe and recommended replacing subframe. Said car is "unsafe to drive in this condition." there is a recall in "salt-belt" states. Not sure it they consider utah a salt-belt state, but salt is used here extensively in the winter.
Interior door handles on 2003 hyundai santa fe are separating from the chrome plating exactly as in the recall for, nhtsa campaign number: 09v317000, dealer will not correct as there has not been an official recall announcement, but these appear to be the same type, style, make handles as that in the recall.handles are sharp and will cut passengers if handled improperly.dick dean of ballwin missouri (dealer)suggested placeing tape of the handles which is totally unacceptable.filing this for my father who owns the vehicle. I owned the sonata in the recall and know first hand these are the exact same handles with the same problem.i also own a 2004 santa fe where the problem has not started to occur yet, but they too appear to be the same handles.
Brought my vehicle in for a alignment and they discovered the rusted and corradiated rear left trailing control arm on my 2003 hyundai santa fe, i brought to dealership after that to get a recall and the told me that since the vehicle was bought in nd and that state is not included in the recall they will decline the work, even thou minn. Is right next door like i live about 1 mile to mn they still wouldn't except the recall, it is obvious the part that is on recall fits my car, when looking on the right side arm there is no rust or corrosion. The dealer states it is not safe to drive vehicle, because the arm is starting to bend also. So what do i do now, it will be very costly to fix,

The subframe is rusted through. It was garage kept and doesn't even have 150,000 miles on it.
Sub frame was replaced due to hidden rotting of internal mounting structure separation of suspension components, causing poor control of vehicle and tire wear in aug. 2013. Under body was exposed to corrosive water in july, 2017 about three years ago and has turned the steel to " crackers " rust condition and made it unsafe to be road worthy due to possible separation of sub frame at body mounts.. All repairs where at my expense.i found some recalls to late on the computer. I`m in the process of replacing the unit. I kept all records of repairs and maintenance since i purchased it used. The power train is in good running order.i`m not to computer savey !i have a fax mechine.thank you.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. While driving at 55 mph and attempting to roll up the front driver side window, the window failed to roll up and curved. The technician diagnosed that the actuator in the door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Two months after purchasing my santa fe, i had to take it back to the dealer for water a water leak.they stated that they repaired the leak by sealing the tail lights, however, there was water on the cargo cover in addition to the carpet.this repair does not seem to have corrected the problem as the rear cargo area of my vehicle was wet after it rained yesterday!

The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. This vehicle has 124,350 miles and looks to be in very good condition yet has underlying problems that has gone undetected until very recently.one is the front frame rail attachment to underside (floorboard) of body on passenger side which is heavily rusted and one large area is holed.also the metal shield over the bottom of fuel tank is nearly completely rusted away and fell down onto rear rotating drive shaft.i feel both of these issues should not have happened with this vehicle and i also feel both could result in serious injury if the remaining steel attachments tear away due to severe section loss of components.
Hit a nasty pothole and knocked the alignment out on my sante fe, or so i thought. When i took it to my mechanic he put it on the lift to check the front end. He found the right side sub frame was rotted and the lower control arm pulling out of the frame. Called hyundai 800 #. "sorry your car is not covered". This is nuts.
Right front lower control arms has corrosion damage showing in rusted broken frame.description is similar to hyundai recall no 091.
I own a 2003 santa fe and just found out about the carriage corrosion problems with the 2001-2003 hyundai and subsequent recall in the "snow belt" states.i live in kansas, where they treat the local highways in the winter with salt and other corrosives.why isn't kansas included in this recall? has hyundai included vehicles in this state for the recall?the little truck has been terrific, with nothing going wrong until now.the garage i take my vehicles to would not allow my daughter to get back into the santa fe, fearing that she would have an accident.thank goodness for small favors!i will give his contact information upon response from you.
I purchased a used 2003 hyundai santa fe for my son which he took to college. During winter break, i tool it to a local hyundai dealer to have a complete tune-up, as well as check a creaking sound in the lower left rear and a "pop" sound when decelerating.the dealer informed me the lower rear left trailing arm is bad and needs to replaced asap for safety reasons at around $500. I checked online and discovered there was a recall on trailing arms for this year, contacted hyundai - who promptly told me it was not covered as i am not in a "road salt" state. This is a known problem which hyundai admits, and i feel all of the trailing arms have fatigue issues from these years due to inferior materials. I feel hyundai should step up and cover the cost, no matter what state we live in, as it is a major safety issue they are well aware of.we have plenty of rain, flooded streets and "salt air" here in florida!
When at a stopvehicle would intermittently jerk forward.dealerships notified, but the problem was not resolved.

While backing out of my garage during the cold month of december i heard a loud bang noise from the front of the vehicle. As i was moving the noise continued as i got onto the driveway. I got out of the vehicle and noticed that the front passenger side of the suv was lower than the driver side. I was not able to move the vehicle due to the loud noise that got worse if i turned the wheel. I called for a tow truck and had it towed to the repair shop. The repair shop informed me that the front coil spring had snapped and was embeded into the tire. I ended up replacing the coil spring with a good/used one which was still very expensive. I have pictures of the vehicle.
Currently there is a noise up front of the car and in the rear a friend that was riding in my car indicated that it may be a suspension problem. He also noted that there was a class action suit with hyundai about a subframe rust corrosion issue. The noise has become quite noticeable he believes might certainly be related
I can hear a strong rubbing against the tire when i come to slow down and stop
Was backing out of driveway at my daughter's, i was on a side road with no traffic.a large bang and the tire popped. When i had a mechanic come look at it, he said the spring had broke and went into the tire of the front passenger side.the vehicle is still in her driveway.i have owned vehicle for about 6 years and never received a recall notice.i was looking up cost and found the recall.i am so glad this was not while i was driving or had my grandkids in the car.
Left front trailer arm came off while driving, tire came off vehicle. Sub frame rusted through. Car used to be kept in one of the salt belt states. No recall to this part according to hyundai, only recall for coil spring and rear trailer arm.
The rear end of my santa fe has rusted through and the back wheels will not track in a straight line.hyundai had a recall nr 09v123000 in 4/16/2009 to fix this exact problem but according to hyundai customer assistance, this recall does not apply to me because my santa fe wasn't purchased or registered in a specific state.my grandson was driving the car and nearly wrecked.hyundai wouldn't even offer a tow into a dealership to inspect the problem.

The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe.

This is in regards to nhtsa campaign number: 14v435000. This is a recall i was never informed about, although i have a 2003 hyundai santa fe that was originally sold, registered, and driven in one of the "salt belt" states. Because i was never notified by hyundai, i never had the vehicle checked by a authorized dealer. And today, the front driver's side spring broke. Unfortunately for me, the nearest authorized dealer that can make this repair is over 100 miles away from my home.i placed a call to hyundai customer care center at 1-855-671-3059 and was told i had two options - (1), i could take the vehicle to a authorized dealer for repair, or (2), have my santa fe repaired locally, then take it to a authorized dealer to ensure the repair met their standards, and then hope to get reimbursed - which could take anywhere from three to four months.i do not believe hyundai has done all they could do to remedy this situation. First, they never contacted me, even though i made the dealership in michigan aware of our move to nebraska. So hyundai had our new address information. If i had been contacted, i could have scheduled an appointment in cheyenne, wy where i go at least once a month to meet with a few clients. Now my vehicle is damaged and i cannot drive it, which takes away from my livelihood. And to get it repaired, i need to pay for the repairs locally and hope hyundai reimburses me, or i have to rent a trailer and take it to the dealership that way. Hyundai does not seem to value the time i've lost from work, the time i've lost from meeting with clients, and the additional expense i will incur with my two repair options.
I was driving and all of a suddent it started making a noise so i pulled over and th3n i found out the frame was damaged

A couple of years ago, i saw the recall on the rear suspension on 03 hyundai santa fe. So i went to two dealers around my area and asked them to check the condition.one of them did not even responded to my question and returned the car, and another one said they are fine and not need to be either treated or replaced.then a few days ago, just web surfing the web and found the symptoms of the problem of the rear tailing arms recall.my car has all that symptoms right now, but hyundai is telling me that my vehicle is not equipped with the faulty trailing arms, and my vehicle is not qualify for the recall.my car swing when i make turns weirdly.it feels like you have a loose trailer in the back.also the height of the car had been lowered, and also when i go over a speed bump, i hear creaking sound.i have replaced the front struts, strut mounts, and rear shocks so they are not coming from those.
Car has clunking noise in front end. Mechanic said it's the subframe bushings going in and out of the subframe and recommended replacing subframe.

The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 09v123000 (suspension) in october of 2009. The suspension was treated with a rust proofing material to prevent the failure from occurring. In june of 2015, while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle appeared to be pulling to the left and a crunching noise was present from the rear of the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the rear driver side wheel was tilted outward. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear trailing arm fractured due to severe corrosion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 180,000.

I drive a 2003 hyundai santa fe, driven in md, 136k miles.the steering wheel was not handling right in the car, it would pull back and forth while driving at all speeds, it was worse in wet conditions.i brought my car into the hyundai dealer for regular maintenance and asked for them to look into the steering wheel problem.the representative told me that my front control arm had rusted into the sub-frame of my car.what occurred is what the nhtsa id # 09v123000 recall was supposed to fix.i had the recall maintenance performed on my vehicle approximately five months ago.i think hyundai motor company should be responsible for the repair of this part based on the time that elapsed between initially addressing the recall and today.failure to fix this malfunction would most likely result in a crash or other damage to the vehicle.
2003 - hyundai santa fe - march 29, 2011.the front right spring broke on my santa fe and punctured the tire. Luckly i was just pulling out of a parking lot and not on the road. Had this happened while i was driving, i may not be here today.i had to replace both front springs, struts, and four new tires for the entire cost of $1300.i would like hyundai to be responsible for this repair cost since it was there defected spring that broke.

When i was driving my 2003 hyundai santa fe at about 30mph, the rear left suspension failed and i lost control of my car. The wheel connecting to it was out of its position by about 10 degrees.the suspension is heavily rusted and i was lucky i was not driving on a highway and no one got hurt.i googled this problem and found several similar cases have been reported to you. So i think my case would be one of them.

I got a recall letter in the mail on sept. 19, 2014. I call the people about the letter but no one got back to me about the recall. I need to know is my car in danger of hurting me or my family. I would like to know.

Since the hyundai santa fe2003 had 1500 miles on it we were told the rotors had to be replaced because of rust. Since then we have had brakes and rotors replaced several times.transmission lost fluid because of rusted cooling line. Just replaced power steering lines because lost fluid due to rusted lines. Now we are losing brake fluid due to rust. Vehicle has 42500 miles..car purchased new in aug. 2003.
In late august my car was due for inspection, so i drove it to my mechanic who informed me that everything was good to go except what i believe was the front rocker arm(could be wrong) was rusted but was do for a free recall because of rust issues. He instructed me to take it to the dealer and have it done for free, and he kept telling me not to let them trick me into paying for it like dealers tend to do, so he highlighted on the recall the lines which reads "all parts and procedures will be done free of charge" so i drive to the dealer and they say it shouldnt take more than a couple days, but months started going by with no word from them and anytime i called to check up on the cars status, they would lie to me and say "the part just arrived and we're workin on itnow" but they told me this like 6 times, so i asked them to return the car until parts arrived, they refused and claimed legal reasons. Then they did randomly contact my sick mother and try to get her to pay 2400 dollars! before they would begin work, explaining they would break so much stuff in the process that it would cost 2400 for the free recall, but 2 mechanics including the 1 that sent me assured me that was a lie, and that the only thing they should have to touch during the procedure is bolts. So i call them back and ask whats going on with my car and finally someone comes clean saying that while they had my car, they started having problems with the transmission, so they start telling me they need to work on my transmission before releasing the car.i said no, dont worry about the transmission, ill will have my guy work on that after the recall is complete. But they refused to work on the recall unless i paid them. They also refused to release the car, then a few months later i received a letter telling me to have my car towed, they r not fixing it. So now the car i drove there no longer works.
I have owned this vehicle for 3 years now. This now makes 3 years that i have had to replace the ac condenser. Due to thedesign of the oil coolant filter and the two piping that run in between the oil coolant filter and the ac condenser causes it to rub against the ac condenser and overtime puncture it and put a hole through the condenser.
On various occassions the spedometer will cease working while driving affecting the cruise control.also, car sometimes feels like it's slipping out of gear while driving.occassionally, while car is idling, car will shut down with no warning.
The accelerator pedal position sensor had just been replaced. Three blocks from the mechanic, while stopped at a red light, the vehicle unexpectedly increased acceleration. The brake pedal was applied to no avail. The e-brake was applied. Vehicle kept lurching forward against the restraint, then died. Ten minutes later, vehicle started and was returned to mechanic to avoid accident or injury. No cause has yet been found. Approximate mileage was 95,000.
On 3 separate occasions vehicle revved andaccelerated while at a complete stop but idling. Consumer's foot was depressed on the brake pedal at the time of these incidents. On the third occasionit resulted in a rear end collision.
We purchased our 2003 hyundai sante fe november of 2003. It is a 2003 model with a 3.5 literengine. After having the car a couple of months, we started having a lurching problem when sitting at stop light. It would feel as if someone bumped into you from the rear. We brought the car in and were told that this was due to an abs problem. They serviced the car for the recalls that were current, and explained to us that they could not duplicate the problem, but it should be ok now with the recall servicing they had done. The car continued to have the problem, doing it several times a day. Just recently i was parked in a parking lot. I started the car, applied my foot to the brake and shifted the car into reverse. The car engine suddenly revved very loudly, and the car lurched backwards about 6 feet, almost hitting some people who were parked behind me in the opposite spaces, putting groceries in their car.i had to place a lot of pressure on the brake to avoid the car going further than the six feet before the engine stopped revving. The car is now at the dealer, whom i hope will be able to help with the issue.

Vehicle was parked and without prior warning it suddenly jumped out of gear, accelerating up to 55 mph.upon uncontrollable accelerationconsumer's vehicle collided with another vehicle.
I have experienced my 4th incident of sudden unintended acceleration on my 2003 hyundai santa fe. I have reported this to you three times before. I am concerned that i may injure myself or another person when this happens. I now drive with my hand on the shift lever and put the car into neutral when nearing any possible situation where i could hit another car or a pedestrian. I am becoming so adept at this maneuver that last time it happened i put it in neutral automatically.i was badly shaken, but nothing serious happened. I have reported this to hyundai america and they are not concerned. They have inspected the problem and claim that the car is safe to drive. The consumer statedshe had already been driving for a few hours, so the engine was warm. The cruise control was on and she was headed up a mountain highway, when suddenly the vehicle lunged forward, increasing in speed as she was cresting the hill. As she headed down, braking, the tachometer continued to widely go up and down and the engine was revving up . Once she pulled over, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer.they downloaded a computer upgrade and over the next 4-5 weeks on occasion, the vehicle would stall at low speeds. According to the invoice, the throttle position sensor was replaced. Updated ivoq 11/03/10

Very similar to complaint 10128836.(recently purchased 2003 2.7l v-6)(1) vehicle bucked violently between 70 - 75 mph twice in the last 2 days.no bucking at lower speeds (suv is seldom driven on the freeway, so this may be limited to a higher speed problem) (2) stalled while waiting (for about 2 minutes at a stop light the same day one of the bucking incidents occurred.ambient temp was 96 deg and ac was working hard.(3) 1 incident of vehicle surging forward with foot lightly on the brake.(4) lcd clock works only on occasiondealer has not been contacted yet - i don't know if he can duplicate.
I've owned my 2003 hyundai santa fe since july 2003 and i have been mostly pleased with the vehicle.on 4/30/10, i left home for a trip to another town approximately 100 miles from home.the trip was mostly on an expressway traveling at speeds of 60 - 70 miles per hour. As i neared my destination, i got off the expressway, onto a surface road.within 1 mile of being on the road, i was changing lanes and sensed my car "pulling" me, while i was lightly breaking.i looked down to ensure that neither my foot, floormat or anything else was touching the accelerator pedal. There was no explainable reason for the acceleration.however, by keeping more foot on the brake, i was able to control the car enough to pull into a parking lot.i stopped the car, and put inpark.the engine whined loudly.but i was able to turn it off.over the next 30 minutes i tried several times to start the car and see of the throttle would somehow reset itself.but each time, the engine raced loudly.i chose to have the vehicle towed to the nearest hyundai dealership.they determined that a throttle sensor had shorted out.the part was replaced and i was given back the vehicle on 5/8/10.the vehicle ha seemed to operate normally since then.
My vehicle experienced unintended acceleration while traveling down a busy road traveling at a speed of 55 mph. The vehicle did not slow down while applying the brakes at full force. The vehicle did eventually slow down to a speed of about 40-45 mph at which point i was able to successfully make a right hand turn at that speed! once off the main highway, i was able to shift the car into neutral and turn it off to a complete stop! the vehicle was towed to the nearest hyundai dealership. A diagnosis was made that the accelerator cable assembly was damaged and needed to be replaced. At this time, the repair has not been completed as the dealership cannot have the part there until thursday, which is 3 days after the incident occurred! i cannot stress enough how dangerous and scary this situation was! luckily, this time, no one was injured or killed, but the potential for that outcome was definitely there. I have seen other reports of this occurring with this model vehicle. I hope hyundai takes responsibility to permanently correct this potentially live threatening issue!
While driving or stopped the vehicle would accelerate to the highest rate of speed,on it's own, and i had to put it in neutral to stop an accident from happening. This happened more than once, almost fatally injuring several pedestrians. We took it to the dealer for repair and it was so unsafe due to the acceleration problem they wouldn't even drive it ! i had to have it towed back and forth to the dealer twice before they could even figure out what the problem was. Now they are saying it is the throttle body assembly. $1,753.11 for a vehicle that was garaged and only driven in the winter. 53,567 miles on it. For a part that regulates your speed?this is not the first time this is reported - there was a case in japan where people actually died - after going to court they said it was driver error - stepping on the gas instead of the brake. I highly doubt it now - there are many more cases and repairs like this one - someone needs to do a little research. I for one would like a little help - i'm 73 years old and bought this car new - it's always been taken care of - the dealer has the records.

Please reference the original complaint that was filed in june 2010. The ref. No. Is 10351059.the above vehicle is still exhibiting "unintended acceleration" and hyundai refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem with this vehicle and other like vehicles. Since the original complaint the vehicle has had "unintended acceleration" about 10 times. Whoever drives the vehicle always keeps their hand on the shift control and shifts into neutral when coming to a stop at an intersection. We may be contacted by phone for more information concerning this problem.
Random unintended gradual acelleration. Happens at any speed. Feels like when you resume cruise control to a higher speed. Except it doesn"t stop and continues acellerating. Though it may not be related to the cruise control at all.pumping the gas pedal once stops the acelleration. Although last time it took 2 tries.can live with it. So far anyway. But don't want to sell it without fixing the problem. The hyundai dealership is no help.happens maybe 3or 4 times a week (100 miles).
When accelerating from a stop vehicle stalled.consumer managed to pull over and restarted the vehicle with no problem.dealership had been notified, but did not resolve the problem.
While acceleratingaftera complete stop, the vehicle failed to respond. Dealer could not duplicate or correct the problem.the vehicle did not respond and the consumer had to push on the pedal to make it go, especially at a spotlight following other vehicles.the vehicle had been to the dealer on three occasions.the crank sensor was installed which did not solve the problem.another mechanic solvedthe problem in a few minutes stating that it was a minor mechanical problem. *scc
Thr cruise control accelerates the car for no apparent reason.the automatictransmission jerks when shifting dislodging all passangers.the accelerater takes a few moments to get the car going.the problems with the transmission and the cruise control happen at all speeds, weather conditions and road conditions.
Cruise control does not always respond when accelerating. At times the car slows down to point that it is a hazard for us and any car near to us. There has been three occasions that accidents almost happened. In order to get it under control, the car has to coast to the side of the highway and set for a short period before i can continue. I have talked to the dealer on two occasions. The first time they told me that they had never hear of such a thing and they would call the factory. When i hadn't heard from them for quite a long time i returned to the same place. This time they didn't acknowledge that i had ever been in with a complaint.
Driver side sun visor is defective. Within a few months of purchase the sun visor would not stay up in the unused position. For several years i held it in place with velcro. It was difficult to swing it over to cover the side window. Recently the entire plastic connector broke and the sun visor dangled from the electrical connection in front of the driver.this occurred while we were driving on the freeway. We used velcro and duct tape in an attempt to keep the sun visor from dangling. It was not usable. We have now disconnected the sun visor from the electrical source and removed it completely. It was a serious safety issue dangling in front of the drive. It is still a safety issue because i do not a means to block the sun from the driver. I noticed on the internet that a number of other owners have complained about this same hyundai defect.

About a year ago, my passenger side windows would only work occasionally.then, the back windows followed suit.then, they all stopped working completely except the driver's side control would still work..then it completely shut down.nothing worked at all.my husband changed the whole driver's side control panel and that fixed the problem for about 6 months.now, the passenger side window is working only when it wants to again.

Cracked windshield.
The windshield cracked for no apparent reason. There is no damage from a rock or anything else. The crack starts approximately 3 inches above the bottom corner of the driver side windshield edge and makes an arc toward the center a few inches then upwards about 12 inches.the view through one side of the crack is distorted as compared to the view on the other side of the crack.

Windshield wipers bolts have loosened 5 times since 2003.the latest was on4/12/07.the time before was 0 on 1/28/07.four out of the five events happened during rain and snow events on i- 95 driving at 65 mph.one second you can see, the next you cannot. I for one have never seen bolts holding windshield wiper arms onto the vehicle in the first place.obviously for good reason.something needs to be done to correct this situation.

My vehicle calls for a sway bar n link it does not have one or a place to put one for the rear passenger side. When i go over a bump it makes a real loud noise. I replaced both shocks. Noise is still there. There are 4 recalls on this car. Recall #03v030000, #14v435000,#09v123000,03v520000. In motion

On 4/05/2005 while driving on south florida expressway the right front wheel of my 2003 hyundai sante fe gl 4d came off. Prior to the wheel coming off the only warning i recieved was a sudden vibration. I was traveling about 55 - 60 mph, fortunately i was able to control the vehicle and came to a stop on the right shoulder. I notified the police, obtained a police report and had the vehicle towed to my home. I notified the hyundai corp, and told them of my incident. I was given file reference # 906136. I was later contactedby hyundai corp and was toldthis was not a warranty claim item (but was never given a reason). The vehicle was purchased on jan 22, 2005, i put a little over 3000 miles on it. I never had any work done to the vehicle, not even changed a tire/flat. I feel this is unfair since my insurance company and i had to pay for the damages. Please advise what if anything i can do. The police and the tow truck driver both were surprised i was not killed or even hurt. I was very lucky.thank you sincerley, wilfredo cruz.
The vehicle hit a pot hole, while driving 55-56 mph. The condition causes the left rear alloy wheel to split in half and damages the emergency parking cable. The dealer was notified.

We took the r 2003 hyundai sanat fe in for an oil change and 45,000 mile service.at the 45,000 mile service our tires were rotated.we noticed after this service that the right wheel was making a noise.the noise did not occur consistently.my husband was driving the car with our two children inside and had just pulled into a parking lot when the right front wheel feel off. All of the lugs were completely sheared off.we could recover 3 of them.damage occurred to the under carriage as well as the body of the car.we were extremely lucky that they were traveling at a low rate of speed.they could have been easily killed if the wheel fell of while driving on one of our local expressways.our dealership that we purchased the car and have it serviced at won't take any responsibility and states that any extended warranties that we purchased will not cover the damage or repairs.we have involved our insurance agency.once the car is repaired i fear that this could happen with any of the other three tires.
The contact owns a 2003 hyundai santa fe.while driving 25 mph, the front passenger side tire detached from the vehicle.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they were unable to determine the cause of the failure.one week later, while driving at an unknown speed, she heard a loud thud and noticed that the two bars that hold the tire in place were completely missing, including the lug nuts.she returned to the dealer and they were unable to determine why the bolts were shearing off.the failure only occurs to the front passenger side tire.the contact filed a formal complaint with the manufacturer.the vin and engine size were unknown.the failure mileage was 36,000 and current mileage was 66,000.
After the heavy rains had occurred here in miamion may 16th, 2006, there were unknown vibrations in my right front tire. About a week later, i was out with a friend. While turn out of a parking lot, we noticed a load popping sound. When we arrived at the location to pickup his vehicle. He got out of the car to inform me that i was missing three lugs from my rim. The next day i went back to the parking lot and found thebroken lugs from my car. I also tried to remove another lug from the rim to ensure its' integrity and it broke off as well. When i called one of the nearest hyundai dealers, i was informed that they know how tight to tighten the lugs and that it must have been my error.
