4/6/06 i had an auto accident going 75 mph in a 70 zone.full impact of my front end to the opposing parties vehicle (suv).i did a 360 and flipped and landed on my driver's side.my airbags did not deploy at all.neither driver side or passenger side.i sustained back and neck injuries - currently in treatment.my vehicle was a total loss and is now in a salvage yard.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while coming off an exit, the front driver side coil spring fractured causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a metal guardrail and the vehicle drove over to the passenger side and crashed into a median. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the right arm and the right rotator cuff which required medical attention. A police report was filed. The contact was later notified of nhtsa campaign number: 14v435000 (suspension). The vehicle was not inspected or diagnosed to determine the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

My husband was in a frontal crash with the side of a school bus and the air bags never deployed on our 2002 hyundai santa fe. We reported this incident to hyundai and they sent an independent company out to investigate. A few weeks later we received a letter from hyundai telling us the airbags were operational and my husband needed to use his breaks in order for the air bags to deploy. This is ridiculous what are air bags good for when you get into an accident where you don't have any time to react.this isn't the first time our hyundai vehicle's airbags did not deploy. In 2001, i was in a 65 mph frontal crash with a guard rail on the interstate in my 2000 hyundai tiburon. When i called hyundai they told me i should hit the guard rail at a certain angle. What angle other than straight on will deploy the airbags? i did not pursue the matter, which i regret not doing but knowing that another hyundai vehicle we own has airbag deployment issues i am afraid as i own another hyundai vehicle. I asked hyundai to inspect the safety of my 2006 sonata but they have refused.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai (model unknown).the contact was involved in a crash while driving 35 mph.the driver side front air bag failed to deploy.although she was wearing her seat belt, the contact struck the left side of her forehead on the steering wheel and was transported to the urgent care center for examination.the vehicle was destroyed.the road was slightly damp at the time of the crash.a police report was filed.the current and failure mileages were 84,000. My 2002 v6 4wheel dr hyundai santa fe while driving on the freeway at 65- 70 mph dropped a drive line, igniting flames to the rear of the car.lithia of fresno claims it was due to low fluids in the transfer case, thus it overheated and the line snapped off.i had the vehicle serviced 2 weeks prior, the fluids were fine, the transfer case was okay.there was a vague hum in the drive of the car after returning from the mountains the week prior to the incident.other 2nd opinions believe the auto switch in the smart system failed and left it stuck in 4wheel dr hence overheating the transfer case. It should be covered under waranty for repairs (120,000 on power train/engine) they denied the waranty coverage, so it's not repaired. Estimate is over $6,000.00. There should be an indicator light in the car as to what drive it's in, and engineering manufacturer defect and hazzard. Investigate please.

The 2002 hyundai santa fe v6 will either not start, stall when moving or run extremely rough. The problem is more noticeable when it is raining or humid out. We are the original owner of the santa fe and have maintained the vehicle. This has been a recurring problem for the past eight years. The issues comes and go but have been more constant over the past four years. In the past, i have replaced the battery and had a tune up performed by the lester glenn hyundai dealership. I bought the santa fe in service several times for this problem to be told they can not find the problem. On our last visit to the dealership they believed it was due toold spark plug wires. The tune up did not resolve the issue at all. As i researched the problem and became aware of hyundai recall 049 which replaces the crankshaft position sensor.i spoke to hyundai and they explained my vehicle was not part of the recall due to its production date. However, the problems i am experiencing is exactly identical to the problem specified in the recall. Hyundai needs to expand the perimeters of the recall to resolve this problem.

When ever theunder engine gets wet the car turns off and the brake light and oil lights come on. When it stops i can't turn the wheel and it locks up.i was driving on interstate in the rain and the car started jolting that the car was off then on then off then on again. I had no control of the car in the torrential rain going 60 miles an hour. Whenever it rains or if i go through a puddle of water this has happened again and again. When i took it to the auto dealer that i bought the car from,i was told that normally there is an engine undercover but there is not one on my car nor was there ever one put on by the manufacturer.having no engine undercover causes the car to stall out whenever water is splashed up onto the engine.this causes the belt to ajar and that stops electrical from flowing to the car and therefore it stalls out at very dangerous times; like driving in traffic or driving on the interstate.no engine undercover is available and therefore the problem can not be fixed. What do i do about this dangerous behavior of the car??

There is a failure in the electrical system. When heat is running lights dim. When i roll up windows, the lights dim. When using windshield wipers the heat gets colder. Little things that weren't so bad at first. Heat would fail to turn on occasionally and now will not come on at all. This is causing my windows to frost while driving making visibility very hard. If it weren't for all the other little electrical problems i would just think the heating system went bad. But it has been a pattern in everything electrical on this car. A few times i would go to start the car and it would not start. If i turned everything off then it would start. Thought maybe was bad battery until i got a new one and it still wouldn't start. I had the new battery tested and it was ok. I believe it is another electrical issue.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact started the ignition and experienced electrical failure. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The first failure also occurred on the date that the vehicle was purchased. Additionally, there were failures with the lower control arm and the filler in the fuel tank. The vehicle was repaired for the malfunctions; however, the failures continued to occur with the electrical system and suspension. The contact stated that the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair expense. The failure mileage was 92,000.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While stationary and driving various high speeds, the vehicle shook and stalled without warning. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the alternator failed. A dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle staled without warning. The vehicle restarted and resumed normally. The failure recurred six times. The contact experienced the same failure mentioned under nhtsa campaign number: 03v030000 (electrical system) however, the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Purchased "new" it took over six hours to deliver the vehicle on site. 1.)the "security system failed returned to jim ellis; "no correction" to date.2.)several other defects existed: battery failed leaving me stranded at least twice, brakes ware quickly and repeatedly require repairs, heated seats on at "all"times, the temperature remains on "celsius" rather than on than "fereinheight" temperatures, clock won't set to current month, date, year.3.)the 10 year;100 mile warranty is disregarded/minimized; from 24,000 miles. 4.) while in for defect review; the car has been returned to me from 2 dealerships with "dings" up and down the side; dents on corners(physical damage). In addition repairs weren't made and managers looked the "other way" and failed to return calls or respond to letters. Also the "check engine" light became a new issue and defect initiated the evening the vehicle was returned home. Was told to anticipate engine trouble to be initiated in the near future despite the oil change date being within limits. Was told that excessive oil existed and blamed me. Then demanded i pay several hundred dollars "before" they'd release car to me.(needed for work). Mgrs were defensive and shut down regarding information.5.)the "recalls" aren't recognized or corrected on 1st,2nd, or 3rd request-i'm toldby the dealership they don't have the computer to do it.

While driving car with ac on the batter dies brought back to dealer said nothing is wrong with car this has happened 4 times now no one will admit there is a problem with the car

Engine stalled suddenly on several occasions while during low speed, at idling or at a constant speed as a result with full loss of power, braking, and steering.car did start back up fine, but would eventually exhibit same behavior again along with erratic rpm surges. My local mechanic attributed the problem to a bad crank shaft position sensor cps.he advised i contact the dealer since there is an open recall on this exact part and same issue regarding 2.7 v6 engine recall #03v030000i contacted the dealer to discuss and provided my vin number, however they indicated my vehicle was not part of the recall.my local mechanic replaced the cps sensor as per recall, and confirmed the damaged cps sensor was the original part, and the issue was ultimately resolved. This open recall 03v030000 affects approximately 25,000 vehicles, i believe this safety issue is much larger and several complaints exist where consumers are being told by the dealer that there vin number is not part of recall 03v030000, yet exhibiting the same issues with the defective cps and ultimately paying for this part themselves. This recall should be expanded.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving, the transmission began shipping in and out of gear. At low speeds the vehicle stalled, shut off and immediately restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealerfor inspection.a technician concluded that since his vehicle identification number was excluded from recall # 03v030000 (electrical system:starter assembly), he would have to pay $350.00 to have the vehicle repaired. No repairs were made. The manufacturer was notified and no assistance was provided. The failure and current mileages were 78,000.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe.the vehicle's crankshaft sensor has been replaced three times.the sensor was replaced at 60,000, 62,000, and 80,000 miles.while driving uphill, the engine stalled and shut completely off after 100 yards.the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and the mechanic stated that the crankshaft sensor was bad.the manufacturer stated that his vin was not included in nhtsa recall # 03v030000 (electrical system:starter assembly).the current mileage is 100,211 and failure mileage was 60,000.

The belt that runs the alternater has broken twice and continuously is squealing it wont keep speed when going up hill and wont let battery charge correctly to keep running will stop when it is being ran

Tire blow out service tech found rotted out engine cradle.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While driving 60 mph, a loud sputtering noise emitted from the engine. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

On 6/17/14 my cars front right wheel fell off. I found two recalls on the internet for the front and rear suspension system. The car was towed/repaired for 782.00. In july 2014, hyundai made an inspection of the work. I asked for reimbursement for the recall but was declined as not being within a campaign. Recently, the rear brakes, rotors, and caliper were replaced (for the second time). .afterward, a noise i heard became louder. On 8/11/16 the noise was diagnosed. It was found that new shocks were needed, and "rear passenger lower control arm is starting to rot from rust and cause noise."i was told to have it repaired by hyundai.i bought the car from national auto sales in glassboro, nj.hyundai apparently did not know i am the owner of the car, and inever received any recall notices from hyundai. The vehicle has had engine and sensor problems and many others. I want to avoid another accident. Hyundai should repair recall #nhtsa 09v123000free of charge. The front suspension is now campaign 124 as of 10/16/14, four months after the accident. I am seeking reimbursement for the cost of 782.00 to have my vehicle towed and repaired.please urge hyundai to recognize a campaign for the rear suspension for my vehicle so that i can have this additional situation rectified to prevent an accident from taking place again.i believe that almost all of the repairs to the hyundai i own have been recalled and i should not have had to pay. I understand that it was found that cars manufactured in alabama were all part of many recalls and obviously other plants vehicles are too.the expenses should not have been my responsibility. The repairs cost roughly 5600.00 since november 2011 when i bought the car.for 5000.00. The air conditioner as well never worked. That repair would cost another 400.00.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While driving at 10 mph, the vehicle auto accelerated without engaging the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

Dt:the contact stated while driving the harmonic balance fell off.she heard a loud clung, and then looked intorearview mirror.at that time she saw it rolling in the middle of the road.she then pulled over and her daughter tried to pick it up.the part was hot, and she burned her fingers.the part was put in the vehicle and taken to the dealership where she purchased it.when this happened the steering malfunctioned.the hyundai dealership was contacted to get the replacement part.theywere unaware of why or how this occurred.

Dt:2002 hyundai santa fe - vehiclestalled while driving any speed and under any condition. As a resultvehicle lost power. Sometimes the vehicle will restart back up, and at timesthe consumer hasto wait a few minutes to restart vehicle. The car is at dealership for repairs.they said the problem was crank shaft sensor. A recallwas issued on the six cylinder engines of the hyundai santa fee.but thisvehicle, not a four cylinder engine was not included in the recall, asked the manufacturer, and they said they did not know why.

I recently bought a used hyundai sante fe (2002). I'm still on my first tank of gas and twice now i have experienced sudden acceleration. Both times i was pulling up to a stoplight and going very slow when all of a sudden the engine began to race and the vehicle lurched forward. Fortunately i was able to stop it both times but this is a real problem.

Started my car, it didnt feel right, pulled out of my driveway and started to drive when the car started to stall but didnt and between 1 st and 2 nd gear the car was jerking. I pulled over shut car off and try it again, same thing. I drove for a few blocks seem to drive better after 2nd gear. So i drove it to the dealer to have it checked out. The check engine light was on. I was told there was a recall on the 2002 santa fe regarding the crankshaft position sensor which would cause a engine stall and the sensor would need to be replaced. But i was told that my 2002 santa fe did not make the recall list. Why wont they fix the problem that was recalled ? but they will fix it if i pay for it.

My 2002 hyundai santa fe stalled in the middle of traffic several times. I took it to the dealership and explained what happened. They called me and said i have a bad crankshaft positioning sensor. I noticed that there was a recall for 2002 santa fe for this same problem. But when i told them that , they responded with my vin # not being attached to a recall. I am very upset about this. I feel this is a huge safety concern, what if something bad happened during traffic when my car stalled. The company should warranty this issue, but they won't.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe.the contact noticed that the vehicle drove abnormally rough and the engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel.on one occasion, the engine stalled without warning.the vehicle was able to be restarted immediately.she took the vehicle to the dealer on numerous occasions, but they were unable to successfully identify the cause of the failure and provide a sufficient remedy.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 112,000 and current mileage was 118,000.

There were no events leading up to the failure.it was sudden, and caused complete shut down of the engine on a busy highway during a busy time of day.we were told by hyundai that the 6 cylinder has a recall against the crankshaft position sensor, but the 4 cylinder which we own don't have the recall, yet the same part failed causing the same engine shutdown.i see the 6 cylinder recall on you website.so far, as of the time of writing this email and a week of the car in the hyundai dealership, there has been no repair, and my mom is still without a car.they are making her pay the labor charge for the repair, and continue with excuses as to why the car hasn't been fixed yet.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated while driving at speeds of 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The tachometer read zero and the vehicle violently jerked and then restarted itself. The failure would occur intermittently and often times, the check engine light would illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where he was informed that the crankshaft position sensor had failed and would need to be replaced. The manufacturer advised there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 132,000.

Purchased a new 2002 hyundai santa fe11/2001 with 11 miles on it.in 3/2007, the radiator needed to be replaced. In replacing it, 2 major safety defects were discovered - no safety/protective foam in the front bumper and the safety/crash bar was bent - i was told that the car must had been in a major accident.i took the car back to the original dealer and they accepted no responsibility - they said i must have done it.i have had no accidents or tickets and my driving record proves that. I purchased a vehicle history report, which showed no accident history. The only conclusion is that the defects were present at the time of sale.the car slipped through the cracks of the safety inspections.

-while driving at 25 mph the engine on a 2002 hyundai santa fe completely lost power.contact stated that the vehicle lost the power steering an the power brakes.the contact stated that the weather condition at the time of the incident was cold and there was light snow on the road.the contact had the vehicle towed to the dealership and can provide a copy of the invoice once the repairs are done on his vehicle.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated she and the passengers, including a child, would develop headaches after driving short distances. The vehicle tested positive for carbon monoxide; yet, the dealer was unable to locate a leak or determine where the gas was emitting from. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was concerned with the toxicity of the gas and its affects on her and the passengers in the vehicle. The vin was not available. The current mileage was approximately 130,000 and the failure mileage was 120,000.

Over the last 4-6 months noticed driver and passengers getting very tired and developing headaches while driving our 2002 hyundai santa fe. Cracked exhaust manifold discovered by owner.

My 2002hyundai 2002sante fe has a 2-part catalytic converter. Hyundai has a warranty--required by federal law, i understand--that covers this for 8 years, 80,000 miles. My car is within that criteria. The second converter broke off, and neither now work. Hyundai and its dealer, marhofer hyundai of cuyahoga falls, ohio, refuse to honor the warranty, because the main converter would work if the second, and an entirely new exhaust system, were installed. The car is undriveable, sounding like a truck and spewing exhaust. Another shop is replacing this, and the owner told me his vendor has just sold five of these converters/exhaust systems. The shop just put one in on a hyundai sante fe, and mine will make seven in a small city (akron) in a very short period of time. Yet hyundai will do nothing, and marhofer wants $2,000 for the work. This problem is a safety issue because exhaust from the broken converter could enter the vehicle and cause injury to the driver and passenger.

Am radio antennae located in rear window does not work and dealer, after replacing the radio and 2 subsequent service inspections said that was just the way it is -it just will not work.

Dt*: the contact stated both headlights were extremely cloudy making visibility very limited.the dealership was made aware of the problem. Updated 10/25/2006 - the dealer said they could buff the inside of both headlights, at cost to the consumer.

Front headlight lenses are cloudy and yellow to point where i can not see the insight of the lens. The light from the light bulb is greatly reduced to the point where i have difficulty seeing the street at night. I contacted hyundai and they refused to correct the problem. I feel this is a serious safety defect that should be corrected by hyundai at no cost to me.the car is only 7 years old.

I am the original owner of a 2002 santa fe. Fred zinkwe have 149,000 miles on the vehiclei just discovered a perforation on the metal fuel fill spout just below where you insert the fuel spoutthis caused fuel to spill all over the bottom of the car and on to the groundthis is a very serious safety issue.

My 2002 hyundai santa fe lx went full throttle today and stayed there. I was driving along at 30 mph with the gas pedal normally pressed and the car felt like cruise control was turned on. I applied the brakes and the throttle kept climbing, so i pulled over and put it in neutral. The throttle was now fully open at this point so i turned the engine off. With repeated starts, the engine immediately went into full throttle while in neutral. The gas pedal wasn't pressed down or stuck.i've had it towed to an independent shop so they can identify the problem. Tomorrow i should have answers.very dangerous! first major problem with this car in 11 years and it ends up being life threatening.

Fuel filler neck , completely rusted through. Had car in 7 months ago for the salt recall on the trailing arms.

This happened when my dealer tried to fill up the gas tank before handing me the keys and thought the vehicle was full of gas and thegas gauge was broken. I ran out of gas the same night and found out that the gas was indeed empty and the gauge worked fine after putting gas in from a gas container. When trying to fill up with gas from that point on, even when the gas tank is empty, the gas gets ejected backed out after only a few seconds of filling and i get gas on myself due to a failure somewhere in the on-board refueling vapor recovery system. I have to fill the gas very slowly, about 1 gallon of gas will take approximately 3-5 minutes to put in. This can lead to inadvertently inhaling vapor due to being at the pump for so long and that gas is on my clothes and it also can be considered a fire risk since you are covered with gas. The mechanics that my dealer provided decided to bypass the vent in the hose where the gas comes in from the filling nozzle to the gas tank. This helped put more gas in at one time, but it was still spitting gas back out, and the problem got worse in about a week when it went back into the original state where gas will spit back out after a few seconds of filling. After researching, it can be that the charcoal pellets may have come loose due to previous owners overfilling or that the mesh cotton that keeps the pellets in might have deteriorate over time due to the gas eating away at the material and therefore releasing the pellets. Also, people have suggested that using a steel mesh works better and lasts longer.

The abs system light has turned on.it happened before the above date, stopped coming on, and now has returned.i put brake fluid in the little compartment under the hood.the light goes out temporarily.pep boys told me the problem is abs related.also, a very costly job.the car also has a problem accepting gas.i have been told that the gas may be pouring into the tank too fast at the station and splashing on the side of the tank making the pump think it is full.pep boys told me that it is a problem with evaporation and that it is a very costly job of roughly 1000.00.america should be a more ethical and moral country.the consumer should not be "ripped off"" after choosing to purchase a used vehicles. Foreign cars should not be allowed into this country when they have defects. All used vehicles should have to conform to state inspections and garage inspections before offering it to the consumer. Consumers should get a clean bill of health from the dealership about the car. Money is so precious and rare.why are we expected to spend it on a "lemon?" i went to a used car dealership and the car had a multitude of problems that were not revealed.i paid far too much for a used car with problems.i have made a lot of repairs.i re-purchased the car in repair costs. Cars are not like clothing whereby you try it on and if it doesn't fit you don't buy it. A car should undergo intense inspection by the state before a dealership can put it on their lot. The inspection should create more validity about the amount charged for a used car. It would be a good way to spend taxpayer dollars, given the current cost of taxes.

Every time i fill the gas tank it takes 15 mins to fill it keeps comingout the filler tube all over the car ihave seen other people complainingabout the same problem on the internet there should have been a recall on this.

2002 & 2004 hyundai santa fe transmission case defect:we liked the first so much, we bought a second....no indication of maintenance instructions in owners manual. Regarding transfer case attention or maintenance which violently caused the vehicle to dangerously, abruptly stop - resulting in a dangerous highway safety situation and personal injury.we have the old transfer case - which looks inside, like a tossed salad.we paid for the replacement by western auto - a matter that should have been covered under warranty.reported in great detail to hyundai usa, they deny responsibility or warranty coverage in effect at the time problem was noticed.furthermore, the vehicles were purchased as 'dealer demos,' with low mileage and full manufacturers 100,00 mile, 10 year warranty - unfortunately from a dealer misrepresenting themselves as an authorized hyundai dealership.2002 vehicle was inspected by the dealership when problem realized, - during warranty period, but reported no problem.we later discovered a repair / modification kit was issued by hyundai to correct the problem - purchased at western auto - hyundai service manager claimed he had no knowledge of the item until we showed it to him in a brand new unopened box.hyundai did install the modification / repair kit to the second 2004 santa fe after we brought it to their attention.all documented by hidden camera video recording.dangerous and costly situation.please advise.we seek reimbursement for the repair and towing costs.thank you for your attention. I had just dropped off my son to school when the accelerator started to rev up and after dropping him off it continued to do so until i got close to my place of employment when the car started to accelerate more and i had a hard time stopping it i had both feet on the brakes and was pulling the emergency brake at the same time, as i pulled into a parking spot the car would not stop and i went over a parking bumper and turned the car off!it scared the day lights out of me i could have if not killed someone, but severely hurt someone else on the road and not to mention possibly my son....i had my boss check it and the cable throttle came out how i do not know...i have never had this happen before and i looked up to see if others who owned the same make and model and year had the same problem and they did!!

The consumer's 2002 hyundai santa fe has been experiencing unexpected and sudden loss of power.the company has another 2002 santa fe( vehicle identification number kmhsc81bp2u260090) that has the same unexpected loss of power. Numerous service have been performed on the vehicle, but the problem continues.

Premature rusting of powerstering 2 (5 year), & transmission 2 (6 year ), & brake (7 year), steel lines . And abs, traction control sensor ring on front drive wheels shaft, rust & split, needed to replace axles as the only fix.right front axle to transmission case seal slips out and leaks oil has been repaired 5 times under warranty & still need to be put back in a oil changes (3000miles) on 2002 hyundai santa fe .

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While driving he heard noises coming from the front of the vehicle. The dealer repaired the left joint axle according to the warranty. The boot on the left side of the axle was also torn; however, the dealer refused to repair it since that part was not covered by the warranty. The contact stated that he purchased an extended warranty and that the dealer should repair it accordingly. The contact refused to pay for the boot repair. The failure mileage was 80000 and the current mileage was81000.

- the contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe.during its last oil change it was noted that the oil was leaking at the joint.there were no warning indicators.the dealer diagnosed the vehicle as needing a new trans axle seal.the failure mileage was 125,598. The repair was done at a local repair shop.the oil began leaking two day later.the part was ordered from hyundai.the consumer provided various pictures of above problem. Update *4/23/07

I bought a 2002 hyundai santa fe, standard 5-speed.since that time i have had to replace the clutch twice.now i am replacing it again as it was damaged by the fly wheel.a new fly wheel costs $1500.00.i have made extensive efforts to find a used one.most of the salvage yards tell me that they don't have one because it is a frequent problem and everyone is looking for one.my mechanic tells me most fly wheels are mounted to the engine and don't have this problem.also most fly wheels cost under $100.00, so most warranties do not cover the fly wheel. It seems this is a manufacturing problems since it happens frequently.

Hii went to my hyundai dealer today for what appeared to be a re-occurring fluid leak on the transfer case seal, front passenger side of the vehicle.i was told this time that the leak was caused by a vent tube located at the transfer case.the technical service bulletin referenced by the service advisor states that the fluid will only appear during very cold temperatures.this seems to be what is happening right now ,with my vehicle.my issue is that in order to stop this fluid leak, the dealer tells me that the transfer case vent tube needs to be replaced with a redesigned unit.i am also told that this new unit will not be replaced under the power train warranty.i asked why not??if this is a design flaw on hyundai's part ,hyundai should recall the affected vehicles and install the new vent tube unit at there cost, not the consumers'.i would like to know why i should have to pay $224.32 parts and labor to correct an issue that is definitely a design flaw that occurred from hyundai.please respond accordinglykenneth john basta

I was driving and applied my brakes at an intersection, when i came to a complete stop, the drivers side seat belt broke apart!i have not been able to afford to repair and replace the defective part!!i am scared if i get into a bad accident ,but, can not afford to repair.is there a resolution. To repair/replace by hyundai ,per their safety dept and good will the services and parts!!!please help!!! The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe.the contact stated that both of the rear seat belt retractors failed.the contact placedthe child seat on the rear passenger side and secured it with the seat belt.while turning a corner at approximately 10 mphthe child seat overturned.the contact then positioned the child seat on the rear driver's side, but could not secure it because the seat belt failed to retract.the dealer stated that the failure was not under warranty, and that the contact would have to pay for the repairs.the current and failure mileages were 91,000.update 05/04/07

My daughter called out "help, mommy!i'm stuck!"i looked in the rear-view mirror to find the shoulder-belt of my vehicle was wrapped around her neck.i thought it was only pulled to the side of her head so i asked her to duck her head out.she said "i can't, i'm stuck!"i pulled to the side of the road.when i got to her, her face was getting red.i ducked her head under the belt.to my horror, the belt was wrapped around her neck again.thankfully she could call to me.this could have been a terrible tragedy.the locking mechanisms on the shoulder-belts that are supposed to activate when you fully retract the belt to install a child safety seat are broken.i have been through three defective mechanisms so far.when i first installed the seat, the mechanism worked.after needing to remove the seat at one point and disengaging the mechanism, it quit working. It never locked again.so, i scheduled an appointment with the dealership to have the problem fixed, as my vehicle was still under warranty.in the meantime, i moved her seat to the other side of the vehicle.same problem.the locking mechanism of the belt worked, until i had to disengage it.then that side broke.my vehicle was no longer under the bumper to bumper warranty, soimoved the seat to the repaired side.after a while, i needed to move her seat and disengage the locking mechanism.it quit working!i called the dealership.the part was under warranty, but labor wasn't.i didn't have it repaired because i couldn't afford it at the time.in order to keep my seats installed correctly, i began using the locking clips that came with the seats.(now i have two children.)this handles the seats being installed safely, but it doesn't deal with the fact that the belts of my vehicle can move freely because the locking mechanisms are broken.because of this my inquisitive two-year old was able to successfully pull on the belt and wrap it around her neck nearly two complete times.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe.the automatic retraction system on the driver side seat belt failed.as a result, the child seat is not properly restrained.the contact spoke with the manufacturer and they stated that her vehicle does not have a recall on the seat belt.the dealer stated that the repair for the seat belt retraction system would cost $300 plus $89 to diagnose the problem.the current mileage is 90,700 and failure mileage was 89,000. Updated 02-25-08 the auto-locking seat belt did not remain locked to use with a child booster seat. However, the seat belt does lock when the belt is pulledquickly. The consumer purchased a replacement part and stated it is working correctly. Updated

The abs system is activating randomly, increasing the length of a stop. It will activate at 0mph (stopped) or any speed; the indication is the pump running and a vibration in the brake pedal. I determined that the problem is that both front abs reluctor (toothed wheels) rings are broken. The system (abs, tracs) fails completely as indicated by the dash monitor, at a sustained 50mph or higher.searching on the internet, i found that this is a common problem with some vehicles. However, since it is due to corrosion, it can take an long time to appear. Contacting hyundai, they indicated that the vehicle was out of warranty and therefore not covered. I cannot even find out how to replace the rings in the factory shop manual, though they appear to be heat shrunk on. If needs be, i will repair the existing rings with a spot welder or new rings but do think that this was a factory default and should be covered by hyundai.thank you

At low speeds the brakes lock up and the car goes into a jerking motion while approaching a stop light and while going into a store parking lot.the car is hard to steer and stop and the brakes must be depressed harder than normally required.this happens when the car gets wet but also during dry times. The abs light has been coming on.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 12 mph and approaching a traffic stop, the brake pedal began to vibrate with a whining noise upon engagement. There was a voluntary recall issued by the manufacturer related to the abs however, the contact's vin was not included. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Shortly after having a complete brake overhaul (rotors, calipers, pads, shoes, etc) started experiencing the abs/trac control lights randomly coming on and off.had to mechanic and found no fault issues.lights continued to randomly come on and off, at different speeds and braking.shortly thereafter, started hearing the abs motor run with and without the lights coming on.tapping the brake pedal stopped the abs motor/pump from running and would eliminate what appeared to be eliminated the pump resetting itself.approximately 3 months ago, the issue affected braking distances, in hat you may be stopping at a light or stop sign and the abs motor would activate, even on dry pavement and significantly increase stopping distance.this has almost caused an accident on multiple occasions, not only with other vehicles but when pulling the car into my, or a shops' garage.having been researching i have found numerous complaints of 2002 santa fe's having the same issues, and have found that hyundai has issued service bulletins that are abs associated, but there has been no action to recall or fix the issues.i do not understand why there hasn't been a recall, as there have been recalls for what appears to be the same issue on later year vehicles, so it would appear that this is a systemic problem with the santa fe model abs braking systems.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 27 mph, the contact heard an unusual noise inside and outside the vehicle. The brake, traction control, and abs warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by two different private mechanics. Both mechanics offered different opinions of what caused the failure. The front brakes or the front driver side coil springs could be the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired according to nhtsa campaign number: 14v435000 (suspension) because the contact did not receive the second recall notification. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The failure mileage was unavailable. ..updated 11/12/14

In reference to another complaint, 10670197:the abs tone rings, the toothed wheels on the end of the axle, rust and crack. This is what causes the intermittent pump activation and unsafe braking condition. I too have noticed that this situation has caused recalls on newer vehicles but not the 2002. This may be due to the fact that the abs was introduced late in 2002 and may be 2003 equipment.

When applying brakes, the abs activates on dry ground and feels like you might not stop. Car has been test driven with a computer attached to main computer and all wheel sensors are working. At this time no one can find out why this is happening. I think one day the brakes will fail.

2002 hyundai santa fe gls.when moderately braking to slow down to exit the interstate the car rapidly decelerated and vibrated violently.pulled over and could not get the car to go over 20 mph.my initial impression was that the transmission was failing. This happened randomly on several occasions.the 2nd time it occurred i had the car towed to the nearest hyundai dealer. Dealer could find nothing wrong with the vehicle.i drove the car back without incident and dropped it off at the hyundai dealer that sold me the car.they had the vehicle for several days before they could reproduce the problem.the diagnosis was a faulty brake system master cylinder and proportioning valve.cost of the repair was over $500.i investigated this problem at various hyundai forums on the internet and learned that this same problem has been reported on other hyundai vehicles (including my generation of santa fe).i feel that any brake system failure is a serious safety defect that should be investigated.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe.while driving approximately 30 mph down a slight decline, pressure was applied to the brakes and she heard a grinding sound. The brakes did not function and after repeated pressure to the emergency brake he was able to stop the vehicle. The failure occurred intermittently and the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure became progressively worse over time and began to recur more frequently.the vehicle was taken to various authorized dealers and independent mechanics who were unable to diagnose the failure.both the front and rear brakes have been replaced but the failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.

Consumer experienced an alarming grinding sound when attempting to brake.grinding sound of the brakes occurred several times while on snow-covered roads. (nar)*laonce the vehicle was driven about 30 minutes the brakes worked fine.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that when applying the brakes and driving at low speeds, the anti-lock brakes would then engage independently. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. The vin was unavailable.

Grinding and other odd noises when braking in my 2002 sante fe.purchased the car new and i have replaced the hydraulic brakes once a year since i purchased it.i have complained to two different hyundai dealerships and to hydundai motor corporation. Itself and was told that i must be a brake rider and city driver.either of these is true.i have never had to replace brakes every 8-10,000 miles on any car i have ever owned.i was told a complete, full brake job must be done each time because the rotors are so thin that there is little margin for error of over resurfacing.this could cause a very serious situation.i was told by one service manager from one hyundai dealership that he would never allow his wife and children in this particular car with turned down rotors and that he would rather lay out the hundreds of dollars on constantly replacing the front brakes for piece of mind.i was spoken to like i was an idiot by hyundai customer service line when i complained and my concerns of an inferior braking system were ignored.i have just had my fifth set of front brakes put on thecar and was actually told by a new service manager that between him and i, that the brake pads were made for a small vehicle not an suv of this size, and that this car wasknown for brake problems.this only confirmed what i tried to explain to hyundai as was also told to me by two other private party repair centers.i now refuse to allow hyundai to charge me almost double the price to replace their inferior, cheap braking system.they apparently put cheap, horrible wear and tear parts in their car, so you will need to replace them very regularly.resulting in them making a bundle and then some back on their oh so great bumper to bumper warranty.i actually saw their brake pad and it is small.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe.on may 27, 2008, while driving between 1-20 mph, the abs light illuminated and the vehicle would not stop.the contact was able to avoid crashing several times by applying the hand brake.on june 17, 2005, she took the vehicle to the dealer for nhtsa campaign id number 04v131000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module); however, they could not duplicate the failure in the 2002 model.the manufacturer advised him to take the vehicle back to the dealer for a diagnosis.the contact will take the vehicle back to the dealer.the failure mileage was 50,744 and current mileage was 115,864.

Therehave been numerous issues with my 2002 santa fe. The first being 6 months after purchasing the vehicle.i heard a constant grinding noise and noticed the vehicle suspsenion not responding smoothly. When the dealer checked the problem, they determined that the front bearings needed to be replaced, but there were no problems with the brakes.since this time, i have had the brakes checked frequently,(since i perceive a frequent problem with grinding and problems stopping...the car doesn't stop well)...and i'm often afraid it won't stop. This summer after having the brakes checked, while parallel parking, the car would not stop when the brakes were applied resulting in my vehicle hitting another parked car. The vehicle did not stop until i quickly put the car in park and turned it off...not yet being in the spot completely.my rear brakes have been replaced every 6 - 8 months since the car was purchased. My mechanic states that the brakes for the santa fe's are configured like small car brakes and arenot sufficient for this size vehicle thus requiring them to be replaced often. Another, separate incident occured approx 6 months ago, again when the car wouldnot stop (heard a clicking/grinding noise). Had the vehicle towed to the dealer and was told the ball joints (i think it was also the ball joints) and front axle needed to be replaced. Dealer said he had never seen anything like the crack in the axle, but was not user caused.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While attempting to decelerate the brake pedal fell to the floor.he had used the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. The technician stated that the brake line had ruptured. No repairs were made.the current and failure mileages were 56000.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. When the contact engaged the brake pedal, she heard a thump and moments later the parking brake light appeared on the dashboard. A local mechanic stated that the abs light needed to be replaced. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 70000. Updated 11/06/09 the consumer stated the abs master cylinder failed. She stated she had no brakes and went through a red light and had to pump the brakes in order for the vehicle to stop. This is the second time we have a near serious accident with my wife driving the truck. 6/26/12 the left steering control arm broke off the total rusted out sub-frame causing the truck to steer dangerously into oncoming traffic. This was caused from the sub-frame being rusted through. This time on july 21 the right rear trailing arm, that secures the right wheel in position, broke off. Forcing the truck to swerve right almost carrying my wife and the truck into a ditch. Both of these breakdowns are included in a recall for my year and model of car, however, my vehicle is not included because i purchased it in florida, not in a northern salt belt state. So i guess what hyundai is saying is, that they can build a defected vehicle and if you buy it in the south, they don't have to take responsibility for our safety. I was never informed that there was a possible safety hazard. We are very lucky that there wasn't a car coming the opposite direction on the first incident. That would not cover the repairs and it ended up costing me over $3,500. How do i get hyundai to stand up and take responsibility for not telling me that we were risking our lives for driving a possible dangerous vehicle and pay for repairs this time. I guess the salt air blowing insouth florida 24/7 don't qualify.

Took vehicle in for a normal oil change, and when technician was under the car, he took some pictures of the frame in the front right corner by the front right tire.he was showing me the frame was rusting very, very badly.he warned us that if we hit a small pot hole/bump or the curb at even 5 mph the frame could bust and we could crash.the steering would shake and made chugging feeling when trying to turn, was looked at and power steering looked to be fine and fluid was full. After july 7th it made it very hard to drive and not safe for our family.

When accelerating between 30-50 mph, the steering wheel pulls violently to the right. When the accelerator is released, the tension on the wheel goes away. The front tires wear faster then unseal.

The abs light has been coming on.

Power steering became harder (with a shimmy feel in steering wheel), and noticed a loud whining sound when steering wheel was moved. Stopped car, and checked p/s fluid level, and it was lower than normal (checked on a regular basis). This morning (9/29/14), noticed a large puddle of oil on driveway below car. Again checked p/s fluid level, and it was well below the min. Mark. Went to store and bought p/s oil, and filled up the reservoir. Returned home and saw p/s fluid dripping onto the driveway, refilled the reservoir, and went to the local hyundai dealer to have it checked out. The dealer inspection revealed rusted metal lines leading to and from the p/s cooler (below radiator), and quoted $540 for replacement of the metal lines and cooler (& 2 days lead time to get parts). There is no recall notice for this corrosion issue. Later went to the local aaa repair center, and they confirmed the hyundai dealer's findings. Both indicated this is a common problem for this car if they had been driven in the northern states (this car was purchased new in northern ohio, & garaged there for 8 years). This is a safe driving issue if the p/s pump fails due to insufficient p/s oil for cooling & lubrication due to fluid loss from corroded metal lines.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 09v123000 (suspension), the steering wheel was difficult to turn and excessive force was required. The contact also mentioned that the suspension was unstable. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the vehicle was aligned and all four tires were replaced but the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the underbody, the front strut frame and the coils springs rusted which needed to be repaired. The vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v435000 (suspension) and pending repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

While driving on expressway i noticed the steering wheel went out of center and the vehicle began to wander. An inspection found that where the right front lower control arm attaches to the subframe was completely rotted out on the front bolt. Ordered a new sub frame and lower control arms to remedy the condtion.

I bought a used 2002 hyundai santa fe with 71,500 mile, seemed in good condition when i paid for it, don't know much about the previous owner's maintenance history.about 1000 miles later this hiss/rattle sound came from the engine as i was driving it, i also noticed when making turns a rubbing sound came from the steering that got worse as the turning angles got more acute, and i began to notice a small leak of reddish fluid i thought may be transmission fluid (turns out to be powering steering fluid).took it in to the local hyundai dealer who told me that the power steering return hose line was corroded/leaking.they charged me $250 to fix it.the fix corrected all three observations...

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the power steering failed. The contact stated that excessive force had to be used in order to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician informed the contact of recall nhtsa campaign number: 09v123000 (suspension). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated while traveling at a low rate of speed around a u-shaped drive way, the vehicle made a loud noise and abruptly stop. The contact noticed that the front passengers side right wheel had fallen off. The right ball joint had detached and the contact was not able to put the vehicle in park. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the right ball joint, power steering hose and axle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 151,246. The vin was not available. Updated 1/23/15updated 03/03/15

Took my car for an alignment and tires.frame where the lower control arms bolt up has serious rust issues.i see in some notes that the rust and corrosion has been an issue for the hyundai's.is there any way i am eligible to get this repaired by hyundai or at least at some discounted rate?

Power steering failed due to rusted fluid lines.

While driving my 2002 hyundai santa fe, there is pulling of the wheel causing the vehicle to turn sharply to the right. There is significant wear on the front tires and the vehicle will not stay in alignment. There is a screeching noise coming from the rear. After having the timing belt replaced, i was informed by the mechanic there was a rust problem in the front part of the vehicle toward the front right tire. He told me the car is unsafe to drive and the rust on this vehicle is more like rust of a vehicle that is 50 years old not ten years. He also said the frame could break at any time to contact a hyundai dealership. I contacted the dealership and was told there were no recalls for this problem for my vehicle. I called hyundai's 800 number only to be told the same thing.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the steering wheel was difficult to turn and there was an abnormal odor of fuel inside the vehicle. In addition, the contact had to add air to the four tires and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the suspension and axle needed to be repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 160,000. The vin was unknown.

There is extensive and through thickness corrosion on the front right subframe of my hyundai 2002 santa fe, it has resulted in the bolted joint of the control arm separating from the sub frame. This was fortunately caught by a repair shop and did not result in an accident. The symptoms were steering pull, and noise when turning, and excessive wear on the front tires. This appears to be an identical problem to that which triggered the 089 recall on the sonata. Photos have been taken and are available. No repairs have been made as of yet. The left side of the car is fine, no corrosion at all.

My 2002 sante fe has been recalled for rear trailing arm repair and i've been informed by the dealer that they will not pay for a loaner car. The dealer is far from both my home and work and this will require me to rent a car at my expense. Repairing the defect is the very least hyundai should do. To truly be at no cost to the consumer, the recall should include a loaner car, as it would with any warranty repair.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe.the contact stated that while attempting to have a front end alignment performed, the technician found that the driver side sub frame was corroded. The technician added that one of the bolts had fractured into the frame and the other bolt would brake soon.as a result of the failure, technician refused to performed the alignment and stated that the failure could not be repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 219,000.

I purchased a 2002 hyundai sante fe in spring 2007. I have had no problems with until two days ago i began to feel the car wheel jerk on the freeway. I brought the car homeand asked my boyfriend to drive the car and see how he felt in it. That night on his way to workas he was exiting the freeway the tire popped off.when the car was towed to the car store the mechanic said the tire popped off due the front subframe being rottedand rusted out.to correct the problem will be $3400.no one was injured. However during these tough economic times i can barely make ends meet. My family has no transportation to school or work.granted that i receive the job offer from a company i recently interviewed with i will be unable to accept for i have no transportation to get there.i notice that hyundai hasthis problem with many of its cars what's the deal with their quality?

Hyundai 2002 santa fe began drifting during driving and developed uneven tire wear.brought to garage - during inspection for cause, mechanic found rusted frame where front bolt of control arm is bolted to frame (frame completely gone, bolt was not attached to anything). Frame and tires replaced and alignment accomplishedto fix problem - old part is available.car was part of initial rust recall and inspected by hyundai dealership with only action being undercoating applied.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop to have the alignment repaired. While the vehicle was being repaired, the contact was informed the front frame was severely corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 90,000.

I was going to have the oil changed & alignment on a 2002 sante fe. I was told that there was rust/rotted out frame was where the lower control arm mounts up to the right tire area. I am very upset with this since i had a pre-inspection done & all came back ok. It is in an area where if the tires are not off of it, it is very hard to see. I suspect it is rusted due to the salty location of illinois.

While driving on expressway i noticed the steering wheel went out of center and the vehicle began to wander. An inspection found that where the right front lower control arm attaches to the subframe was completely rotted out on the front bolt. Ordered a new sub frame and lower control arms to remedy the condtion.

While driving at 25 mph, my wife had to hold the steering wheel at 10 o'clock in order to keep the vehicle going straight.the dealer told us that the subframe and controller arm had broke - a recall campaign which was repaired in 2010 (or so we thought).due to this the car is not drivable and we are told by the dealership that, although the subframe and controller arm will be covered, the damage to the struts and tires are our responsibility to the sum $973.31.our personal mechanic states that the front tires (under 4 years old and having less than 3000 miles on them) and the struts (under 5 years old) would not need to be replaced if not for the issue with the subframe and controller arm. At our recall appointment on december 22, 2014 (for a separate issue), the dealership saw no issue during their inspection of the vehicle. Our 2002 santa fe has 91,000 miles, and in the last 3 months since that appointment has been driven less than 300 miles, as my wife's work is less than 2 miles from home.hyundai motors america states that they are separate issues and therefore not part of the repairs they will cover.

While driving to work, all of a sudden it felt like the body of the car was swaying away from the frame; there was complete loss of control so i pulled over to the side of the road; this scared the daylights out of me.a few minutes later, i drove the car to my mechanic and he told me later after he'd examined the vehicle that there was so much corrosion in the rear trailing arm that there was no place to weld anything on to.complete corrosion of the rear trailing arms.i couldn't drive the vehicle any further.i was told it was a total loss.i had to buy another vehicle, which i could not afford, being on unemployment.

2002 hyundai santa fe.consumer writes in regards to broken steering control arm and reimbursement for repairs.the consumer stated his wife was driving the vehicle, when the left front steering control arm broke free from the sub frame due to rust. It forced the vehicle to swerve dangerously to the left onto oncoming traffic.the consumer had a mechanic to inspect the vehicle, and the mechanic stated the entire under carriage had rusted. The consumer discovered a recall was issued for the same problem. However, when he contacted the dealer, he was informed the only vehicles that were being repaired, were the ones purchased in northern salt belt states.

The back right suspension bracket connected to the rear spring corroded to the point that it broke in half. This suspension component holds the wheel to the frame. This resulted in the vehicle becomming non driveavble. The wheel is grossely misaligned and the car cannot be driven.iam fortunate this did not happen ahigher rate of speed or serious injury or death may have resulted.

This santa fe has a rear right trailing arm that has completely rusted and has also disintegrated the wheel bearing assembly, wheel hub, emergency brake cable and spring. I checked the website for a recall on this vehicle, there is a recall for the rear trailing arms, but this vin number was not part of the recall. This vehicle has been registered in the northeast "salt belt" and should have been included in the recall. Because of this oversight by not including this vin on the recall it has caused massive corrosion on all attached parts. The right rear side has been more affected than the rear left side. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you could provide me in providing a remedy for this situation

When accelerating between 30-50 mph, the steering wheel pulls violently to the right. When the accelerator is released, the tension on the wheel goes away. The front tires wear faster then unseal.

Driving at 25 mph, there was a loud noise and vehicle started swaying violently in the rear.luckily no other cars were around and i hadn't gotten on the freeway yet.after tow, discovered the trailing arm cracked the suspension.this was supposedly "corrected" during previous recall.obviously not.dealer won't look at it stating they have new owners.3 people with 70 years of repair experience have never seen anything like this.vehicle is not drivable, opened case with hyundai, not expecting much.vehicle also had to have engine cradle replaced (hyundai did replace at no expense) however they screwed more up and it had to be returned to fix their mistakes.vehicle was "inspected" front to rear and was "ok", twice.that was end of 2015.this corrosion could not happen in that short amount of time.everything is rusted to almost beyond recognition underneath.

The contact called on behalf of a client who owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while his client was driving at 55 mph, she experienced what she thought was a flat tire on the rear of the vehicle. As the client began to pull over, the entire passenger's side rear control arm collapsed without warning. Due to the failure, the contact's client had the vehicle towed to his independent mechanic shop where he discovered that the entire lower rear control was corroded and had detached from the vehicle. The contact linked the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 09v123000 (suspension) however, upon speaking with twin city hyundai (3024 alcoa hwy, alcoa, tn 37701) the contact was informed that the vin was not included. My2002 hyundaisanta fe is sharply jerking to the right its almost impossible to stop it sounds as if the car if going to fall into peices im a disabled mom with one one the way i can't drive for fear im going to lose the wheel and crash

After having new shocks, struts, cv axles, and new toyo open country tires put on 02 hyundai santa fe when accelerating vehicle would pull hard to the right when letting off the gas car would pull theleft.was informed it needed ball joints in the front end, i had them replaced was also informed the vehicle was still doing that but worse.vehicle was given a wheel alignment per mechanic, car was still pulling hard.mechanic inspected 02 hyundai santa fe and reported that it needed a new steering rack.after i had that installed vehicle was still pulling hard to the right during acceleration and left when breaking or letting off gas.mechanic said vehicle was unsafe to drive and had me leave it with them to figure out the problem.they reported and fixed a rotted out front end sub frame.vehicle drives as if brand new now.a year prior to the above incident i also had to replace the rear passenger side control arm.hyundai would not acknowledge the recall on those parts for me.

Tire blow out service tech found rotted out engine cradle.

2002 hyundai santa fe recall *grin late february, prior to receiving the recall notice, the sub frame failed while the vehicle was being serviced for an unrelated issue. While driving slowly, i heard a clunk from the rear, and heard tire scrubbing noise while noticing steering wheel cocked 90 degrees in order to keep vehicle straight.returned vehicle slowly to house driveway about 1/4 mile away. Noticed right reat trailing arm cracked and deformed.vehicle had been serviced 4 years earlier for recall # 09v123000 (trailing arm corrosion problem.)hyundai and local dealer claimed that recall was complete and i would have to pay for the repair.obviously, their recall fix (drilling holes in the stamping to let water out) was insufficient to fix a potentially dangerous defect. I had just sunk $1800 dollars in this vehicle to fix other problems.again, hyundai claimed no responsibility to fix.i called nhtsa and have file fcc complaint #87016133 at their recommendation.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While driving approximately 27 mph, the contact heard an unusual noise inside and outside the vehicle.

Front brakes repaired, i was informed that control arm and ball joint on right tire were bad, parts were loose and not stationary.the inside of the front tire were bald on the inside due to the way the alignment had changed as a result of the defective part. *sc

I have a 2002 santa fe that broke its rear left arm due to rusting and the left rear wheel is almost detached. This happened while my spouse was driving on a busy 4 lane street where traffic travels at 45 mph. The suv swiveled and the driver was able to struggle to stop right in the middle of the road during rush hour. This was an extremely unsafe situation.i know there was a recall for this: nhtsa campaign number: 09v123000 and i have had it serviced at the dealer for this issue. They only added anti-corrosion and drilled some holes, as they hyundai had given them this option. I guess this was not the right solution. Hyundai should have changed the entire arm, if they knew rust was an issue. I talked to the dealer and they mentioned that they have this happen to other santa fes. The dealer has graciously offered to work with hyundai to get this fixed. However, i think hyundai did not handle the recall right. If they knew rust was an issue, they should have directed the dealers to replace the control arms. I guess they figuredthese vehicles would be off the road by then.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the rear tires wobbled while traveling at any speed. Also, the steering wheel was difficult to control because the vehicle swayed to the left and right. The contact drove the vehicle onto the emergency lane and noticed that the rear wheels appeared to be turned inward. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear axles needed to be replaced. An independent mechanic stated that the part was not available; therefore, the vehicle could not be repaired.the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v123000 (suspension). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

I currently own a 2002 hyundai sante fe. There is a recall on the rear trailing arms of some of these vehicles. A defect in manufacturing causes the trailing arms to rust and over time weaken. According to two hyundai dealers this recall does not apply to my vehicle. While driving down the road at 65 mph the rear trailing arm broke causing the vehicle to enter a skid and almost complete a 360 degree spin. This is exactly what the recall states could happen if the trailing arm issue is not addressed. Both left and right rear trailing arms have been replaced at owner's expense.

2002 hyundai santa fe. Consumer express discontent regarding recall repair *tgwthe consumer stated she is still waiting for the repair to be made to her vehicle.the consumer attempted to make two appointments, and both times she was told the parts were not available.

2002 hyundai sante fe. Consumer writes regarding a recall issue *tgwthe consumer received a recall notice in the mail. She placed a call to three dealerships to try and get the vehicle inspected for the recall. All three dealerships could inspect the vehicle within a weeks time frame. However, the consumer was informed that if the vehicle was deemed unsafe to drive, they would not be able to fix the problem until may or june due to the back-up of repairs due to the recall.the consumer inquired about a loaner vehicle for the time the vehicle would be in the shop for repair and was told hyundai was not providing loaner vehicles. The consumer also learned the recall had been effect since july 2009 and she wanted to know why was she just being informed. She was informed the notices were sent out in waves.

2002 hyundai santa fe.consumer writes to express thoughts that recalls were not handled properly and that further action is necessary.*tgwthe consumer stated there was a loud creaking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle.

I own a 2002 hyundai santa fe which was the subject of a recall notice based on nhtsa campaign id number 09v123000 which addressed a problem with corrosion of the rear trailing arms in vehicles located in the salt belt states.i took the vehicle to a hyundai dealer service center on 1/18/10 where they supposedly inspected it and performed the necessary "corrective" procedures on the rear suspension (according to the dealer invoice, they inspected and applied wax to the trailing arms).on 9/6/10, one of the rear trailing arms on the vehicle collapsed due to extreme rust and corrosion.given that only 8 months has passed, it leads me to believe that the condition of the trailing arms on 1/18/10 would have warranted a full replacement instead of a wax application. As a result of the trailing arm collapse, the right rear tire became extremely unstable to the point of nearly falling off of the vehicle.i had the vehicle towed to an independent automotive establishment who diagnosed the issue which was subsequently confirmed by the same dealer who performed the initial "corrective" procedure.the dealer did retrieve the vehicle and promptly replace both rear trailing arms.in this instance, fortunately i was able to handle the vehicle so that there were no injuries or damages to other people or property, but the outcome could have been very bad had there been a resultant accident.i wanted to file this complaint to warn other owners of other recalledhyundai santa fe vehicles that hyundai's prescribed "corrective" procedure for the recall is not sufficient!!!i also own a 2003 hyundai santa fe for which the same type of recall was issued.i had the same procedure performed on that vehicle, and i don't trust that the problem has been resolved.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the vehicle would pull to the right while driving at various speeds under 25 mph. He received a recall notice after the failure occurred, nhtsa campaign id number 09v123000, suspension rear. Upon contacting the dealer, he was advised that they would not be able to perform the recall repairs until may 28, 2010. This would be two months after receiving the recall letter. The contact stated that two months after the recall notice was received was not within a reasonable amount of time when dealing with a safety issue. No repairs were made to the vehicle. He attempted to contact the manufacturer; however, there was a two-hour wait before he could speak with someone. The failure and current mileages were approximately 60,000.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While driving, the rear end began to slip as if it were on ice.he was unable tocontrol the vehicle while driving 20 mph. The vehicle was towed to a repair facility. The mechanic told him that the rear trailing arm was corroded. The entire rear end fell down due to the rust. He called the manufacturer to find out if there were any related recalls; he was informed of recall 09v123000. The vehicle has not been repaired to-date. The contact wanted the manufacturer to pay the towing fee so that the vehicle could be repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 137,000.

We found that both rear trailing arms we completely rusted through. We had to get them both replaced by the dealer for $650 a piece.the old parts were discarded by the hyundai dealer. The dealer thinks this is normal ware and tare on an 2002 vehicle. The problem that i have is that the rear trailing arms are a major suspension component. Fifty percent of the vehicle weight resides on these components. Hyundaishould have build them with highest quality in mind. My opinion the rear trailing arms should have lasted longer then the fender on the car. Their was no event leading up to the suspension problem. One day the car felt like the wheel alignment was out. The vehicle was very hard to handle on the road. We then arranged for the car to get a wheel alignment. They said that they couldn't do a alignment because their is a suspension problem with the rear trailing arms. They also informed us that the car is not safe and to bring it to a dealer to get fixed. I feel this could have been a fatal accident!!!

2002 hyundai santa fe recall *grin late february, prior to receiving the recall notice, the sub frame failed while the vehicle was being serviced for an unrelated issue. The consumer had to pay to have the sub frame replaced. The consumer stated the ball joint was being replaced at the time of the failure.

My 2002 hyundai sante fe control arm rusted through causing the wheel to come off.i understand this was a recall which i was not notified about.because ofthis dangerous situation i am not comfortable driving this car.not only did the control arm rust , we had to change to hub, bearing, and the axle and have the car towed to a repair shop at my expense. I am asking hyundai to pay for the labor and parts to repair my car.luckily, i was not on a highway driving since this would have resulted in a major accident or possibly a fatality. I now have tobring the auto to a hyundai dealership to have the parts and car inspected and then wait6 to 8 weeks for themto decide on how i will be reimbursed.failure to notify me aswell as thousands of other hyundai owners is unacceptable.i should not have to go through all this redtape on something they are totally responsible and liable for.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While driving 55 mph, the contact felt that the rear of the vehicle was out of alignment. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and noticed that the rear passenger wheel was bent. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear trailing arms were corroded all the way through and needed to be replaced. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 09v123000 (suspension) and 14v435000 (suspension). The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving at speeds of 25 mph, she heard a squeaking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. The failure was contributed to corrosion on the rear suspension arm. The contact verified that she had previously received notification of nhtsa recall campaign id number 09v123000 (suspension: rear) and was advised by the dealer that the failure was directly related to the recall. The dealer stated that the parts needed to make the recall repairs were not available and that the vehicle was deemed as unsafe to operate. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000 and the approximate current mileage was 160,000.

Driver noticed that while drivingthe tire track control engaged . This causes the vehicle to slow down on its own without applying the brakes. Driver took vehicleto the dealer, but mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

Took my car in to a garage for parts and labor totaling 874.00 before leaving i was told that my subframe was terribly rusted out and to get rid of the car quickly. I asked to see and took a couple of pictures.after looking on the internet found out about a recall for this.there was a class action lawsuit that would include me as i worked in ohio.which is a saltblelt state. I went to the dealer for an inspectionwhich they are submitting pics to hyundai. They said i would be denied however because of a salvaged title which i explained had nothing to do with the recall or class action lawsuit.it is a matter of safety and they need to fix it. I only have 104,000.00 on a car that is rusting so badly the bottom could fall out.

This is in response to my tracking number 11092056. I found that you have assigned a campaign id number which is 09v-123000 hyundai campaign 090. I feel like i should have been included in this settlement since i worked in ohio for 30 years which is a saltbelt state.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while traveling 25 mph the vehicle accelerated unexpectantly. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 121,000.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. Fox ann arbor hyundai (located at 3975 jackson rd, ann arbor, mi 48103, (734) 663-7770) was notified. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

My 2002 2.7 santa fe reved way up spontaneously tonight. I banged gas pedal repeatedly with foot but did nothing. As i approached stoplight brakes would hardly stop the car; shifted to neutral, rpms went way up and i turned off car. Continued my 1 mile trip home and engine would by itself rev down only to immediately rev way back up. Could smell my brakes burning by the time i got home. What ever is going on here is very dangerous.

I drive a 2002 hyundaid santa fe (engine 2.7l 6 cyl. This morning i pulled into a parking space and suddenly my car accelerated forward. I hit the brake yanked the emergency brake up and it stopped. I then backed it up since it was way overshot in the space. I called the dealer and they said to bring it in ,but explained in great length that hyundai's have a different throttle control system than toyota's and bmws. I don't really care that my system is configured differently. The fact that my problem occurred during the toyota crisis is circumstantial. My problem did occur though. And someone could've been hurt. The first time it happened was about 3 months ago, i was driving on a side road and going fairly slow (about 25 mph) when it all of a sudden accelerated. Since this was the first time, i was disoriented and unsure if i had done something. I hit the brake, pulled over and stopped. Now that it has happened again, i am very clear that it was an unintended sudden acceleration. I checked my floor mat and it is completely flat and secure.i'm having my husband drive it to the dealer. We'll see what they can find.

While i stopped at a red light my vehicle stalled which this has occurred several times previously. I turned the car odd and on again and proceeded to turn at the light and the car stalled again in the middle of this busy intersection, i turned it off again and back and began to drive up a small incline. I pressed on the gas pedal and it did not feel as if were speeding up, all of a sudden i began to accelerate and i pressed the brake and it continued to go faster. My destination was coming up, and there was a lot of traffic ahead of me. In fear of speeding up any faster and having a collisionwith my 5,1 1/2, and 11 month old in the back seat. I turned into a parking lot and put on my emergency brake which caused me to spin out of control and luckily run sideways into a bank of snow.the vehicle continued to accelerate while the car was in park and the emergency brake was on. I turned the key off and the vehicle stopped. My driver side was up on a pile of snow tilted and i had to get all of my babies out of the passenger side door. I don't ever want to put my kids in that car again and they say they never heard of this at the dealership but i have seen plenty of complaints on line.this was the one of the worse feelings i ever had i really just feared for my children and with all the complaints i have read on line about this i think this is a dangerous situation.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated with out any warning. The contact mentioned that the driver was able to control the vehicle by shifting gears and engaging the brakes. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop, who diagnosed that the cruise control cable was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 163,000. The vin was not available.

My 2002 hyundai santa fe has experienced two throttle position sensor failures within the last 4 months. This causes sudden acceleration and transmission downshifts and up shifts. Fortunately both times occurred onin town streets and i was able to keep control of the vehicle. Could be serious if it occurred while trying to merge into highway traffic.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning. The contact stated she had to shift into neutral and turn the vehicle on and off in order for the vehicle to work normally. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 196,000 and the current mileage was 197,000.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe.the contact stated after shifting into drive gear the vehicle suddenly accelerated crashing into a garden and a vehicle.the vehicle was destroyed. There were no injuries.the contact did not notify the manufacturer of the failure.the failure mileage was 96,000.

In july 2009 and again in dec 2009 i experience "sudden acceleration" in my 2002 santa fe with the 2.7 v6 engine.i had about 92,000 miles on the odometer in july and about 95,000 in december.both times the "sudden acceleration" occurred while i was in "manual mode".some refer to this as "sport mode".i was driving in the mountains on pennsylvannia when these incidences occurred.the first time i was completely stopped in 1st gear.the car started to drifted into the ongoing traffic before i realized that the engine was accelerating.all this time i was pressing on the brake pedal as hard as i could and finally stopped about 10-15 into the oncoming traffic. Luckily, no traffic approached during this incident.it hadn't happened again until i was in the mountains of pa again in dec 2009 in "manual mode" because of the hilly, icy road conditions at the time.the incident occurred while i was shifting between gears.my wife drives the car almost exclusively but never uses the "manual mode" however, when i drove in these two specific aforementioned incidences i was in "manual mode" on very hilly and windy road conditions.i am presently working with my hyundai service manager on several potential fixes to the problem.they are taking this seriously but have no definitive fix for the problem as yet.

On august 25, 2010 i was driving my hyundai 2002 sante fe when without warning it accelerated to full throttle.i was able to stop it using the brake and emergency brake and turning it off.my mechanic found the cruise control cable had broken and held the throttle wide open.the cable was stretched too tight.i had it removed.

Car turnedleft onto 30 mph speed limit n. Highland ave. Atlanta, car immediately lurched into wot (wide open throttle) executing an unintended acceleration.standing on the brake with both feet, engaging emergency brake, and finally knocking it out of gear, the car stopped 10 feet in front of an outside patio of beer drinkers sitting at tables at a local bar.no one was hurt, but, it was by pure luck and fast reaction by my son who is deathly afraid of this car now.i personally removed the engine cover to find the cruise control cable had separated where it is staked into it's mounting hardware.the staked end sheath of the cable is pulled out of it's staked housing tube and in some cases may go back into it causing the problem to be intermittent and unrepeatable on request, however, our cable end was unable to reenter it's position resulting in the throttle remaining open.the cable is too short by design leaving it to be on a constant pull until it overcomes the staking and slips out.jim ellis hyundai has never heard of this happening before this date.never, said their parts dept., and service manager.they told me to call hyundai corp, or, they would be glad to quote me a cost to repair.like hyundai corp. They went into immediate rear end coverage mode.

The fan speed switch for the blower motor inside the vehicle has failed for the second time. It first started a week before christmas in december of 2007, i came out of the store started the car and the blower wouldn't came on for the heater. I had to jiggle the switch for the fan speed control to get the blower to come on, it worked for awhile, but it failed completely. I had no warning at all, the fan speed blower switch just stopped working. I went to the dealer and bought the part for $20.57, it was working fine and then on 7/19/2008 i came out of the store started the car, i engaged the air conditioner and it happened again. Now i am going to have to go back to the dealer and buy this part again. I cannot understand how a simple fan speed control switch can fail in 7 months. It is very annoying to go through this. I hope that hyundai can help me when i go back to the dealer.

I was at a gas station during a winter storm in southern new jersey when this happened.i started my engine to proceed away from the pumps. After starting the engine i commenced to turn my wipers on as it was a very snowy day and visibility was very difficult.my wipers would not work at the idle.i tried them during the difficult drive home and they still did not function.the next day after i started the car, i tried to use them again.i can hear the motor under the hood but the wipers do not move.

The contact owns a 2002 hyundai santa fe. The contact stated that the heater failed to work. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer, but the manufacturer was contacted. The manufacturer advised that the switch assembly blower needed to be replaced for the heater and air conditioning unit. The part was installed by a private mechanic, but the failure was remedied temporarily. The unit had been replaced four times since the initial failure. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 93,000 and the current mileage was 129,245.kmj

Every time it rains i hear a roaring in the back right tire area. Took back to dealer 5 times they couldn't find any thing wrong.while filling up with gas the engine dies, and is very hard to start.

When accelerating between 30-50 mph, the steering wheel pulls violently to the right. When the accelerator is released, the tension on the wheel goes away. The front tires wear faster then unseal.

I was riding down the road and felt the car feel as if it was floating. The next thing i know the car feels like the tire came off and it had. Rusted completely off. I had two children in the car and came very close to being hit in the rear because i lost control of the vehicle.it seems as if it is the control arm bar. This incident happened on gall blvd. Zephyrhills fl.

My2002 hyundaisanta fe is sharply jerking to the right its almost impossible to stop it sounds as if the car if going to fall into peices im a disabled mom with one one the way i can't drive for fear im going to lose the wheel and crash
