The flames were extinguished by the campus police prior to the fire department's arrival. The fire department disconnected the vehicle's battery. A campus police report and a fire department report were filed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000.
80 miles into a weeks vacation my engine light came on, car was still drivable, backtracked 20 miles to dealer, left my nice car (11,000 miles)there for the week while using a rental car with 177,000 miles on it. Problem was pertaining to campaign 953 engine problems. A wiring harness was put in, and the dealer updated the software that had been updated that march, and they said that was all fixed. I have watched the video on this campaign problem, and it scares me where i cannot take my car out of town/on vacations out west! if this engine fails, i wouldn't always be able to get to a dealer. I'm living in the fear of this, and am supposed to have "peace of mind" enjoying my nice car? i had to leave vacation a day early( resort paid for that final night we didn't get to enjoy), spent that night in hotel, just to get to that dealer to pick up my car before their closing time. I had to fight to get the full reimbursement for the car rental and one night hotel bill. Through the attorney generals office, hyundai finally paid that which was only fair when a recall was involved! now i find that i have cancelled going to out of town funerals, and short weekend vacations, because my engine could go out. I have asked for a new engine, and the last message from hyundai was all about my car doesn't fit the description for the lemon law....which i have never mentioned.i have asked for statistics on how many engines have had to be replaced because of this campaign 953 issue, but no one has any! is this true?? how can i get my engine replaced, so i can enjoy my car? that video should never have been out there if i and others have to keep driving with an engine that can be dangerous in many ways!
I have been stopped at a single light (on a state highway) and waiting to turn left but when i accelerated the vehicle did not go. But in a second it took off but i braked because by now it was not safe/clear to go. Also, when i use cruse it goes down hill while raising the rpms (always), this is my third hyundai vehicle therefore i have never had this happen before.
I have just purchased my santa fe sport 2.0t ultimate 4 days ago and while driving home today from work traffic was a stop and go.car drove fine for about a mile in this traffic (i drive a total of 16 miles a day to and from work), then i tried to go after stopping and there was a big hesitation in the acceleration.the car went to 8 mph then felt as it had stalled and i almost was hit, thankfully my car started going.it did this twice in less then ten minutes and both times i was almost hit. I was on a highway during after work 5:30 rush hour traffic when this happened.this has made me not want to drive my new car i am paying for.
Has a hesitation when you press on accelerator from stop and then suddenly take off fast.
My car is 6months old with 7600 miles on it. I stopped at a red light. My car began to shake/shudder and then shut off. I had to try and restart it 4 times before it successfully restarted. This happened on a city street, thankfully right before getting on the highway.
Everytime i acceleratethere is a horrible . And sometimes when coming down from acceleratingto stop it seem to be grinding. There is a slipping sound that comes and goes. On city streets and turning

The contact owns a 2018 hyundai santa fe sport. While accelerating from a stop, the vehicle stalled. The contact had to restart the vehicle and the battery warning indicator illuminated. The failure occurred intermittently. Coconut creek hyundai (4960 north fl-7, coconut creek, fl 33073, (888) 441-7737) diagnosed the vehicle, but could not find a failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 8,000.
The contact owns a 2018 hyundai santa fe sport. While driving with a half tank of fuel in the vehicle, it began to stall on the highway. The contact noticed fuel coming out of the exhaust and the vehicle ran completely out of fuel as she pulled over to the shoulder. The state police pulled up behind her and ordered her to get away from the vehicle due to the fuel and fumes. The vehicle was towed to m.j. Sullivan hyundai (452 broad st c, new london, ct 06320, 860-437-6179) where it was diagnosed that two fuel injectors were stuck open and caused the vehicle to stall. The contact noticed a large amount of fuel was in the oil pan due to the dipstick. According to the dealer, the manufacturer suggested that they replace the fuel injectors, drain the oil, and place new oil in the engine. The dealer stated that was all they would do to the vehicle. The contact called the manufacturer to get a case for a possible buyback. The manufacturer denied the buyback request and offered one month car payment to resolve the matter. The manufacturer suggested the contact reach out to the better business bureau. The dealer refused to provide a loaner vehicle. The vehicle was retrieved and driven to the contacts home. The failure mileage was 14,210. The vin was unknown.
First my car started consuming and alarming amont of oil at 40000 to 50000 miles in 2020. I have been put through 3 oil consumption test and every 1,000 miles i took it in it was consuming more oil. One time it had lost 4 quart of oil in 1,000 miles with no oil leaks detected.they never did anything about it. Early 2021 while i was on the highway in traffic going 70 miles per hour. Mile car started to sputter and slowed down to 30 miles per hour in the middle of the highway at night. I was so afraid that i would be hit. Another time it slowed down on the highway 1 day after i got an oil change and i was out of town on a sunday. The car was struggling to get up a highway hill at 25 miles an hour with other cars going well over the 70 mile speed limt. I was terrified.the dealer finally admitted that the engin is bad but hyundai will not replace it. Help please!!!!!
Went to dinner with my husband 2/28/2019. The check engine light started flashing.the car began to buck and hesitated. We were going 35mph. We got to restaurant, i called jack giambalvo hyundai service. I was told to get vehicle to dealership asap.my engine is blown due to manufacture defect. I am being told it could be 3-6 months or more till hyundai can get a new engine. I need a reliable vehicle, jack giambalvo hyundai is refusing a loaner car until hyundai approves. I am now going into my second week with a rental i can't afford, because my vehicle was used for work purposes. Please help!!!!!!😞😞😞😞
Vehicle died when driving on city street then would not start. Had to have vehicle towed. Was told it was the alternator and the battery is dead.hyundai won't replace the battery as they said battery was over 3 years old.the battery was fine until the alternator killed the battery. Vehicle is still at dealership so i don't have any paperwork yet
On 2/19/2019 an update for the knock sensor was done on my vehicle. After the updatei was driving on an entrance ramp to the highway when my vehicle lost power upon acceleration. I was told by the dealership this is called limp home mode. I was told by the dealership it is likely due to the update done on the knock sensor and to drive it to their dealership. I did not feel it was safe to drive any further than necessary so i had it towed . The dealer ran a diagnostic and it came back it needs a newengine. The current engine only has approx. 13,000miles on the odometer. The dealer requested a new engine from hyundai which was approved in a few days. The dealer said they are having several other vehicles of this same make, model and year come in for the same problem. It was very hazardous having a vehicle unable to accelerate to speed on an entranxe ramp to the highway yet alone anywhere.with all the recalls and lack of information given to me from hyundai or the dealership it has made me very uneasy about what we're not being told
Check engine light comes on and testing shows 3rd cylinder has as fuel-oxygen imbalance.has happened twice.light went off the 2nd time.brand new car.it happened at 2,500 and 5,000 miles.had it checked by hyundai the first time and they didn't see any other problems, chalking it up to a malfunction.someone told me it could be a bad fuel injector; badsensor; or a miscalibration of the engine/fuel injector
This is a new car with less than 1200 miles purchased february 2018. Experienced several issues the past 6 weeks where the car fails to accelerate when turning a corner. This has happened with both right or left turns to enter traffic from a full stop. Unresponsive for 1-2 seconds then engages with a bit of a jolt. Scary in that i do not knowif the car will move forward as traffic is approaching. Driving very defensively now. This problem has happened from a straight forward dead stop. Have seen other issues of this type on line. Dealer not contacted as seems to be a manufacturers issue. Pointed this out in an on-line survey from hyundai and no response as yet.
The contact owns a 2018 hyundai santa fe sport. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled with the oil warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who replaced the gasket, engine plug, and replenished the oil. After return of the vehicle, the contact heard an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine. Additionally, there was an abnormal odor of burning engine oil. The contact also stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where metal shavings were discovered in the oil pan. Due to the failure, the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
On 2/8/2019 an update for the knock sensor was done on my vehicle. On 2/18/19 i was driving up a steep hill on a highway when my vehicle lost power upon acceleration. I was unable to go faster than 17 mph uphill and 50 mph on level highway (speed limit is70 mph). It was 16 degrees f and i had an infant in the car. I was told by the dealership it is likely due to the update done on the knock sensor and to drive it to their dealership. I did not feel it was safe to drive any further than necessary so i had it towed (i had to pull over constantly because the speed limit is 70 mph). The dealer ran a diagnostic and it came back it needs a new engine.the current engine only has approx. 14,500 miles on the odometer. The dealer requested a new engine from hyundai but it has not been approved yet and they believe it is a result of the knock sensor update. They estimate i will not have my vehicle repaired for at least 3 months. The dealer said they are having several other vehicles of this same make, model and year come in for the same problem.it was very hazardous having a vehicle unable to accelerate in winter with an infant in the car.i was in a remote area and this could have had the potential for a much worse outcome than it did.
While driving my practically new 2018 hyundai santa fe sport with 11,653 miles, it suddenly jerked out of cruise at 65 mph and the dashboard lit up along with the touch screen that said to call customer care immediately. A nice man at the other end of the phone checked my car as i was driving but could find nothing after running the diagnostic. He said i should be able to drive it about another 300 miles but should get to my dealership as soon as possible. I told him i was over 300 miles from home so he helped locate a hyundai dealership closer and i headed that way while still talking to the customer care guy. As i was getting on the on-ramp to travel i-35, the car jerked and acted like it lost power and i pulled over. The guy called a tow truck to come after the car and have it towed to the dealership. My car went to the nearest dealership where they ran a diagnostic and could not find anything either and said they had to wait on hyundai corporate to authorize them to check the engine. That took several more days but once they received the authorization, they dropped the oil pan and found metal shavings in the oil which indicated my engine was blown and would need a replacement. Initially, they said it might take up to 6 weeks.after several phone calls hyundai finally assigned me a case number and a case manager. The case manager was worthless, would not return my calls or send any updates about the status of my vehicle. Finally, hyundai corporate assigned me another case manager and after looking at my state's lemon laws, i asked them to buy my car back from me. The second case manager sent me a letter asking for some documentation and told me they would send a re-purchase offer. That was over a month ago and i still have heard nothing from hyundai. It has now been 83 days since my car quit with no resolution in sight.
Both of headlight and fog light is getting foggy two day after i got the car from the dealer.replaced with a new one and still getting foggy.
Purchased vehicle in june 2018 and noticed a problem with headlights, shadow on roadway when driving.i noticed in housing that there were finger prints on lenses and took vehicle back to dealer for remedy...they replaced headlight on driver's side.did not think anything else about it until i drove the vehicle during darkness.shadows were observed on side of road that could and did hide bikers/walkers on the side of the roadway.upon closer inspection of the lights while parked, i noticed that these shadows were also observed on the passenger side.passengers in vehicle also noticed headlight problems on both sides of vehicle. I contacted dealer about this problem and was told that this was made that way during manufacturing.as time passed, anytime that i took vehicle out during night time hours, whether on the highway, interstate, or country road, these dark spots were always visible and continue to prevent me as a driver from seeing the roadway in its entirety.a photo is attached that was taken today, but the problem has persisted and have met with no solution being offered by the dealer or manufacturer.i decided to file a formal complaint on this ongoing problem with this vehicle's lighting problems.
Low beam headlights have a dark spot approx. 100 feet in front of the vehicle in the left hand lane. Hyundai says it is designed that way to prevent glare with the hid lights the vehicle has. It is hard to see much in the left lane when driving. The attached photo shows the dark spot on the left side of center. It has been that way since i first drove the car at night. I think it is a definite safety issue.

Severe acceleration hesitation after stopping, when making slow speed turns and after hitting slow speed dips or bumps. Vehicle gives intermittent warning of rollover or excessive vehicle angel. This occures during good weather conditions, however, this behavior creates collision and safety hazards, as the fuel system appears to be shut down as if a rollover has occured, when it has not!!

The bracket holding the charcoal canister broke and the undercarriage of the vehicle was damaged
I was driving a few months ago and after getting fuel my check engine light comes on. I drove it for a while and it cleared itself. About 3 weeks ago it came on about 50 miles after putting fuel into it and got it cleared by someone with obs ii reader. Since then ive put about 2000 miles on my car and it came on again about 50 miles after putting fuel into it. I replaced the gas cap making sure it went on correctly but nothing. I smelt leaking fumes with the gas cap on. Im taking it to a repair shop tomorrow to have it looked at.

I was slowly crossing three traffic lanes and turning left.no one was coming from the right, soi applied the throttle in the inside lane and nothing happened.the car stalled without warning.it left me in the road and i was t-boned in the driver's door.the other driver was injured, and i have had neck issues.we could have both been killed.the car had stalled once before.i had the car two months with 2,400 miles and now it was declared totaled.i requested the black box to be removed and reviewed.it showed the speed and timing made sense, but why did the car not take off? i got the ticket - "failure to yield from a private drive".very, very frightening. I did not call the hyundai dealer to tell him about the crash until i had bought a new car of another brand.no more hyundai ever.the biomechanical engineer who read the black box requested i contact you after i fully explained the situation.if you need pdf files,i will have to figure out how to send them.

New car with less than 400 miles.i have experienced 7 episodes during the month of january, where the car fails to accelerate when turning onto a city street. This has happened with both right or left turns to enter traffic from a stop sign.it is just unresponsive for 1-2 seconds then engages with a bit of a jerk.very frightening!i've had a feeling of panicnot knowing if the car will move forward as traffic is approaching.took to dealership where they checked for dtcs and computer updates.since the problem is unpredictably intermittent, the road test did not replicate the problem, and they returned the car saying it "drives as designed". There is definitely a safety issue that should be resolved before releasing the car.i have lost confidence in the car i had hoped would be safe and problem free.
The complaint is in regards the acceleration from either a rolling slow or from a stop to merge into traffic or open lane next to you on the freeway. When you need accelerate i'm getting a severe lag or noresponse from the accelerator. In the last two weeks i've had two occasions where i needed some quick acceleration in order to avoid a bad situation and the car just basically didn't accelerate causing the other drivers to have to brakein order to avoid a near collision. I've been complaining about this issue with this car now since i purchased it. Took the car to the dealership and had one of the service techs drive with me said well it was in the eco-mode so you can expect that but i'm here to tell you that it is unacceptable that when you push on accelerator the car dangerously hesitates and is going to get somebody badly injured. So today it happened to me again on northbound i-5 in tacoma, wa, i was trying to get into another lane in stop and go traffic i had accelerate quickly the car just severely hesitated for 1-2 seconds and did nothing??. After this incident i drove the car directly to the hyundai dealership in renton washington and told them that i would not drive the car anymore until somebody looked at it that there was a severe safety issue and that somebody was going to get hurt badly. It appears that many people are having the same issue.. I have a 2018 hyundai santa fe ultimate 2.0 all wheel drive. I tried testing it in sport mode to see if the performance would be a little bit better and it did also hesitate in the sport mode as well.when you punch the accelerator from a creeping speed or a rolling in slow traffic and wanting to accelerate to a different lane or coming out of a parking lot onto oncoming traffic is really when you notice issue. This is a safety concern, please advise. Thank you.
Right rear passenger seat belt fails to engage. This is an intermittent problem. Pressing the red button may reset the latch so that mechanism will again work.
I rented the vehicle from enterprise rent a car on may 28. It seemed to run fine then and on the morning of may 29. But about 3.45p.m. I was driving on city streets in arcadiato my doctor's appointment when i saw a car ahead of me suddenly put on its brake lights. I pressed my brakes, but my car did not slow. I had to swerve around the car ahead of me.shortly thereafter, the brakes started working again. At the next traffic light, i made a left behind another car. At the next traffic light, i was going to make a right behind the car ahead of me. It was stopped at a red light. I was about 50 yards away, when i pressed on my brakes, but the car did not slow. I pressed as hard as i could, but the car kept going and going and rear-ended the car in front of me. It then jumped back and hit the other car again. It was a frightening experience. To the best of my recollection, i have not caused a traffic accident in more than 30 years. The other driver and i pulled over and exchanged information. Badly shaken, i drove to my doctor's office and told him about it. Upon leaving his office, i was driving slowly in his parking lot because of the brakes,, but the brakes would not work again. This terrified me as the traffic on the road ahead was full of cars. As i went over a speed bump, the brakes came back on. I drove home at about 15 mph, and about 100 yards behind any other car. I was very afraid. I parked my car at home. The next day, i called enterprise to have them tow the car away. Aaa came and did that on may 30.
I submitted a complaint on june 11, #11219391 but have received no response, and it does not show as a filed complaint. Please advise the status of this complaint. Thanks
This past saturday i had taken my car into rick case hyundai in plantation fl to have the dealership inspect my car for the steering wheel assembly recall. They gave me the car back and said that the lot number of my assembly was not on hyundai's recall. Two days later while driving, i started to notice the wheel became very loose. Almost to the point where i was concerned it would fall off. I had my two young children in the car along with my wife for a week trip down to the fl aleta. I decided the car for unsafe and brought it back to the same dealer. Upon inspection after they pulled the airbag off, the whole steering assembled was cracked off. I have documented with pictures. I believe hyundai usa must expand their recall part to include more lot number assemblies as my dealer claims they did not disassemble this piece in order to inspect. They claim all lot numbers ending in 9 are defective while mine was an 8. My family and i could have been killed or badly injured if the wheel had fully detached while driving the car are the dealer confirmed my steering wheel assembly was fine.
Very lose steering and there is a manufacture recall on thousands of these vehicles from the steering wheel actually separating from the steering column itself. Very hard to drive without swerving.
The bracket holding the charcoal canister broke and the undercarriage of the vehicle was damaged
01/28/2018 -driving on interstate 79near evans city at 7:30 am, sunday morning and sunroof shattered and blew out of the car. There were no cars around at the time, no rocks or trees hit it.
While driving at the speed limit, 65 mph, the sunroof suddenly exploded, sounding like a shotgun has suddenly gone off in the car. The overhead panel was closed so no glass came into the drivers area.it was a cloudy day, no rain at time of incident.i was able to pull over then drive home at a reduced speed.

My vehicle hesitates randomly upon acceleration after having stopped.....going from first gear to third....it feels like it is about to stall, so i let up on the gas pedal and then immediately press it again to accelorate.....as i then accelerate, the vehicle lurches forward abruptly, jerking everyone inside the vehicle....in reading about this problem, it seems to have occured in your 2017 santa fe sport suvs.....
In august of 2018, my 3 month old santa fe sport caught fire and was completely destroyed.i was driving on the nj turnpike headed to obx for vacation.i was following my sister down when they stopped to let their dog out at a rest area.i pulled into the space next to them and as soon as i turned the car off, it went up in flames.by the time the fire dept arrived it was engulfed and i lost everything.
The vehicle will occasionally stall and sometimes will not start without several attempts. Stalls occasionally when moving

Where the air conditioning comes from is broken from inside.i tried to lock the air when it was too cold then vent went inside i did the same on the other part it went inside i took it to get checked day told me that it's broken from inside
The contact owns a 2018 hyundai santa fe sport. While the vehicle was stopped at a stop light and attempting to make a left turn, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate and went into idle mode. The contact had to pump the accelerator pedal several times for the vehicle to move. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact called a local dealer (fitzgerald's countryside hyundai, 27419 u s highway 19 n, clearwater, fl 33761, (727) 799-1800) where a service appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,000.

While driving to work, the car maintained the speed despite the fact that the gas pedal was not pressed. The odometer stayed at 4 for no reasons. It was a very scary experience.
Vehicle has no acceleration after a stop. When taking off from a stop sign or stop light the vehicle does not respond when stepping on the gas pedal putting our lives in danger of a collision. Seems to happen when switching from eco to normal mode. It has happened multiple times in the short month i have owned it. No indicator lights or visual items to prove it. It just does not accelerate. I have to turn car off and back on to get it to kick in.
Several incidents of stalling when making turns from stops or yields with slow acceleration. Intermittent incidents, though seem to be more noticeable with a/c running. My hyundai santa fe sport, 2018, awd, does have approximately 12,000 miles on it.when pulling onto the busy highway near where we live, a left turn with prompt acceleration is critical. On about 6 incidents, including 2 in the last week, i have started the turn, then lost acceleration, put the pedal to the floor then it would hesitate for another 1-2 seconds, then jerk up to 7000rpm and the traction control would kick in (light on dash comes on), then takes off quickly.thus far, no one has been in harms way, however, i fear it will happen. On 7/12/2018 i did take to kc summers hyundai in mattoon, il. They performed a full inspection, took it for test drive, ran diagnostics and found nothing. I was told there was nothing showing on the computer either. No tsb's.they encouraged me to bring it in each time it occurs in the future. No complaints about the service.i did provide them with the other complaints on this site from many others about this problem and asked them to keep it in my file.
On the night of 01/13/2021 i left my suv parked outside for the first time in 25 decree weather . The next morning at 5am i started my car by remote start to get the ice off the windows . I then drove to work and parked my suv. When i went to leave at 3pm the rear window was shattering you could even hear it cracking all over itit blew ahole in it ! there was not o piece of the rear window that was not shattered . My suv was parked with the rear window facing the sun. My suv has always been kept in my heated garage at night unt the night in question ! i do not know if the heat from the sun caused this to happen do to the window being so cold! but i do knowit was parked in a private parking lot with nothing around it ! i would appreciate any input on this matter!thanks
