The contact owns a 2013 hyundai santa fe sport. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle jerked, lost power, and accelerated without warning. The contact veered to the shoulder of the road, turned off the vehicle, and waited for a few minutes. The vehicle was restarted and failed to resume normal operation. The vehicle was towed by roadside assistance to hyundai of long island city (34-54 44th st, long island city, ny, (718) 819-6160) where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred multiple times. The contact mentioned that the battery was replaced two additional times. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000. The vin was unknown.
We took our 2013 hyundai santa fe sport vin #[xxx] into shawnee mission hyundai on april 16th, 2018, as the instrument panel cluster went out on the vehicle while we were driving it, we had pulled out of a park on to a street that is heavily traveled and it made the shut down noise and the instrument panel went black.we pulled into a parking lot, because i wasn't sure if the care was still running or not.i put it in park and turned it off and on and it was still black.the car was locked into the park position and we couldn't get it out.we called aaa and they sent a tow truck driver out.he showed me how to use the key inside the fob to get it out of park and said to immediately tack it to the dealership to be fixed as this was a serious safety hazard.we have been working with a service representative named [xxx] from the dealership.according to mike, they ordered a replacement part that arrived last wednesday and it had a broken piece on it, so they ordered another one.it arrived on friday and after installation, on saturday our car still was not working properly.we finally got our car back from the dealership on april 27th and the panel went out at 12:30 on april 29th after going through an intersection and stop light.we took it back to the dealership on april 30th and got it back on may 4th and the panel went out on may 5th at 11:00 after pulling into a parking space.we took it back to the dealership today, may 7th.this particular cluster going out is a serious safety hazard and wonder if yet another recall needs to go out? so on april 26th i opened a case file with hyundai's consumer affairs department, but have yet to talk to the case worker.she called and left a message, i returned her call and left a message and emailed her to call me today at 4:00 cst and she didn't call.the case number is [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Reset brake light assembly shorts out every year.this has been an on going issue since i have owned the car and the dealer always seems to be reluctant to repair it.this needs a recall urgentlet!
On july 26, 2018 vehicle lost all power and engine began smoking and emitting flames.car was in motion at approximately 70 mps in the middle of a tunnel on colorado interstate 70 with no pull off space.cars behind reported flames from under the vehicle.we were able to exit without being harmed but inhaled horrible smelling fumes.fire department personnel disconnect the battery to keep the engine from continuing to flame and smoke.towed off interstate to safe area where they continued to monitor vehicle for continuing smoking and flaming.
While driving down the highway, the vehicle started to loose power, started having a vibration and could see smoke in the rear view mirror.i pulled over and the engine had caught fire.within minutes, the whole vehicle burst into flames.
I was driving northbound on a freeway to pick up my 3 year old daughter. My car engine completely died/stalled while driving 65mph. As soon as i tried to get into the emergency lane, i noticed smoke coming from the engine. I grabbed my purse which was on the passenger seat next to me, and i exited the vehicle immediately . As soon as i exited the vehicle, the entire engine and front of my car was in flames. The fireman arrived on the scene within 5-10 minutes, but by the time they had gotten the fire out, my entire car was totaled. I had a recall on my car for possible engine failure while driving a year ago, i took my car into sacramento hyundai where they told me they had fixed it, along with multiple other recalls on my vehicle that i was unaware of. Now, a year later after hyundai said they fixed my recalls, my car stalled while driving, but this time the entire engine caught fire with it, and the entire car is totaled. It was the scariest, most traumatic experience i've ever been through. If i did not exit the vehicle immediately, i might not have made it out safely.
To whom it may concern, two weeks ago my 2013 hyundai santafe sport turbo (which i purchased new in 2013) experienced an engine stall as i was driving on the freeway.i was able to coast to the side of the road and then experienced an engine fire that has caused extensive damage.the fire was extinguished as quickly as possible, but not before extensive damage had been caused.i had my car towed to my local auto shop and they have quoted the damage in excess of $2,000 and indicated that they believed the fire was due to a short in the electrical system.upon doing some quick research on the internet, it seems that my experience is not uncommon.i see that an official investigation was opened in july 2018, yet there has not been a recall yet.if a recall had been issued, i would not have experienced this loss. Please let me know what course of action i should be taking.thank you for your assistance.
Abs sensors going bad on these models. Happend today when i was just sitting with suv running. Got a c1209 bad right rear sensor, read up on it and more people have had multiple failures with this. Some stated they got recalls depending on where they live and others didn't.
Nothing has happened yet but abs, esc, dbc and parking brake light all on. I have looked this up and it seems this is happening to many of these vehicles.i'm just wondering why a recall has not been approved, for all these systems are serious safety issues.i'm bringing mine to the dealership monday but was told i would more than likely be responsible for payment of this problem.
While in reverse backing camera screen blacks out for several seconds while car is backinga. (everytime)
Engine began idling rough, engine light came on on thursday, june 22, 2017. Friday and saturday, june 23 and 24, 2017, engine continued to drive rough (chugging). Saturday, june 24, 2017 at 12:15pm, while on the highway-. Driving straight on a country road, attempting to accelerate up a hill, the rpms increased but with no movement in speed, then in the middle of nowhere-the engine lost all power. Had to pull off the road. At 2:20pm, placed a call for roadside assistance to get vehicle towed.

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. On october 7th 2018 while driving at highway speed on a four lane highway my hyundai santa fe sport turbo began to make noises in the engine (no warning lights came on) then suddenly there was a popping sound coming from the engine compartment, the check engine light came on and the car completely shut off. I coasted to the shoulder and found smoke coming out from under the hood. When i opened the hood i found the whole engine compartment fully engulfed in flames. The car completely burned out while awaiting the fire department.
2013 hyundai santa fe is eating over 1 quart of oil every thousand miles. Car has 150000 allhighway miles. Pcv was replaced and did not remedy problem. Caseworker was very rude and cut me off after they said they will do nothing to help me out. I drive 900 mile to take care of elderly father and no longer trust this car. I still owe money on it and don't know what to do. I'm sure this is one that has metal shavings in the engine.hyundai refused to even check it out. Shame on you hyundai!
Husband was driving my santa fe sport 2013 on the highway when the car just died, 97,000 miles on the car, no warning at all. No engine lights or anything. Took to a mechanic, said the engine seized and will need to be replaced. Also said there was no oil in the vehicle, even though it was not due for an oil change yet. He said they couldn't find a reason for there to be no oil, proper maintenance has been completed on this vehicle. Had it towed to the dealership, waiting to see if it is under warranty, but i am sure they will try to find a reason not to pay to have it fixed. Second problem with this car in the last 3 months. The fuel pump went out less than three months ago and had to be replaced. Will not buy hyundai again.
On dec 18th driving on a county road outside of gunnison, co my 2013 hyundai santa fe sport was in motion and a clicking noise began in engine. After ~1 hr and after checking fluid levels a loud pop in the engine caused it to cease functioning while in motion (~45-55 mph) leaving my stranded in dangerously cold temperatures that night. I was forced to have the vehicle towed to dealership where, with no loaner cars and a 6 week wait on a new engine, was forced to purchase another vehicle from hyundai with no explanation of what happened to the engine. A few weeks ago i received a notice from hyundai corporate stating there is a known problem and a safety recall (nhtsa campaign number: 17v-226). It is clear that hyundai knew of this problem and not only did not reimburse any expenses related to the engine issue and put me in a situation requiring me to purchase another vehicle from them.
Driving car on interstate and engine blew up while driving. The car steering wheel locked up and was able to veer off the interstate. Had to be towed to a local dealership (car was only 2 years old.) we had multiple problems prior to that. I bought the car brand new and as soon as i drove off the lot, we had issues. There were electrical problems.the battery had to be replaced. The vehicle left me stranded at places because the gear shifter would not come out of park. There was an internal failure to shift lock so they replaced it.i would turn the car off at times and my radio would continue to play. It wouldn't turn off. The car has been in the shop over 20 times since i bought it brand new. Wasnt considered a lemon because the hyundai technician didn't label it correctly on the 3rd time in a year. Finally got rid of the car. They ended up replacing the engine and im sure they put it back on a lot which that car was unsafe.
Accelerating from 0 to 50 miles per hour onto route 50 ( major highway), goingwest bound, the card shut off completely.the vehicle was in motion, pressure was applied to the accelerator and the car shut off. I had to pull off the road to safely.i believe the issue was caused when i tried to accelerate. The car reacted to acceleration and started to go, but then froze up, and died.i call a dealer in preston, md and they said if might be a recall issue.got the car towed to them for analysis. After speaking with the dealer today, the 22nd, they said it appears it is an engine replacement. They are reaching out to hyundai for assistance.
We were driving in an interstate when the gas pedal stopped working and we weren't able to go faster than 65mph. A few minutes later, we heard noise from the engine and other drivers were signaling us to move to the shoulder. We found out our car started on fire. According to the tow truck mechanic, the engine blew a rod.
I purchased my vehicle brand new and have had problems randomly with the vehicle stalling or turning off while at a light or going slow. I have to restart vehicle and when i do it's like it can not accelerate and it vibrates or is bumpy. I feel at danger never knowing when this can happen luckily i have not been smashed into yet thank god considering i have small children. I have brought this concern and have had my vehicle looked at by the hyundai dealer and they say nothing is wrong. I am very upset with the problem and hyundai not doing anything about it except offering me a free appraisal for a turn in:-( this is horrible customer service i will never buy a hyundai again and will advise family, friends and coworkers of this problem.
2013 hyundai santa fe sport caught fire on 11/20/2018 on rt81n harrisburg, pa.towed to faulkner hyundai who says it could take up to 2 months for a hyundai engineer to get out to assess the problem. Can't understand why a known problem has not created a recall??they are jeopardizing customers lives.we were driving when we heard noise, pulled off and saw smoke coming out.my husband used water to put it out.
Exited interstate and since it was a cool evening, i turned the a/c off and put window down.when accelerating from the light at the highway interchange, heard a loud knocking sound coming from under the hood. Pulled into parking lot and opened hood.knocking became very loud under acceleration and deceleration.having vehicle taken to dealer asap.
I was driving on a city street and my car made a loud screeching noise and stopped. All of the indicator lights turned on. I turned off the car and attempted to turn it back on but the engine would not start.
Going approximately 70 miles an hour on the highway and the car just shuts down. After coasting to the side of the road i tried to restart the car to which it turned over but was knocking so i immediately shut down the car and called a towing company but i was 300 miles away from home on the highway when the incident occured. After getting the vehicle home and taking it to the hyundai dealership i was told that it fit the criteria of a recall 17v226000 nhtsa however if there was any sign of sludge in the motor during inspection they would not replace or fix the issue. I was also told the only fix they offered for the recall was to change the oil and filters if the car wasnt experiencing the knocking noise. I just had my car oil changed and filter changed 2 months before the incident and have traveled less than 1500 miles. The car currently has 90600k miles.
While driving myself and my 3 year old son on the freeway headed to drop him off at the sitter prior to going to work i let off my gas while driving a good 65mph and my car continued to drive while my foot was not on the pedal to accelerate not only was my car driving on its own as if it were in cruse control but my check engine light went at the same time this was occurring. Right away i thought it was the transmission (i had a 2000 hyundai elantra with transmission issues previously) however i then remembered there was a recall from last year regarding the engine what they called ?engine seizures? in which hyundai did not have a ?remedy? for at that time (reference#: 10312381 dated 6/9/17) was my initial case to hyundai so i?ve now contacted the manufacturer again this morning (ref# 11650656 10/3/2108) and i?ve scheduled an appointment with hyundai service department @ 8:45am tracy ca for 10/4/2018 for them to hopefully have a ?remedy? that could potentially save lives. My car has 56k miles and my warranty is up at 60k miles. I am fearful for others as well as parent and concerned financially for what?s to possibly come if i don?t recieve the adequate assistance. Engine wears and seizes (17v226000);engine seized going almost over 85 mph on the i 75 in atlanta.
When driving on the high way, the speed at 60~65 mph, check engine light came on 2~3 times, each time just lasted few seconds and acceleration probably could trigger check engine light on.
My car is stating to show signs of loss of power and hesitation as noted as some of the affects from this recall. I did notice this same type of actions back in september, and my check engine light came on and my car completely died on me and was jerking and hesitant when it would run. I took it in for repair to phil long hyundai of motor city and paid $624.03 for repairs, and not the same actions are occurring. I would like action to be taken prior to a complete stall and would like to request to be reimbursed for the $624.03 i paid out back in september 2016 for repairs.
The contact owns a 2013 hyundai santa fe sport. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and would not restart when prompted. The vehicle was towed to tustin hyundai motors of tustin, california where the engine was replaced with a re-manufactured engine. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer stated that the failure was directly related to the recall. Furthermore, the contact stated that there was an oil flow restriction, which caused high oil consumption, due to the premature bearing wear within the engine. After the initial repair, the contact heard a clacking noise coming from the engine on more than one occasion due to a lack of oil. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the re-manufactured engine would have to fail completely before authorization of a new engine would be approved. Vehicle has slightly over 78,000 miles. Engine seized while merging onto the highway. I am not being told that the engine needs to be replaced. The dealership sold us the wrong warranty, gave us an outdated car fax report, and is saying that nothing can be done.

On november 14, 2017, i began hearing some knocking noise.about 15 minutes later, while driving on the highway, the santa fe sport stalled with no warning.i was in heavy traffic and it was a very dangerous situation, where people were honking and having to go around me.i was so scared.i was able to restart the car and decided to return home instead of going to my original destination.ten minutes later, in heavy traffic, the same thing happened, the santa fe sport stopped without warning.i was able to restart the car and get home.i never received any recall information in the mail.i later learned that it is hyundai recall 162.the santa fe has about 54,000 miles on it.
A recall was issued for this make and model for debris from the manufacturing operation that remained in the engine. The engine displayed the symptoms of this issue through a metallic knocking noise which increased as the rpm increased. The hyundai dealership in lincoln nebraska reviewed the vehicle and subsequently released the car back to me. Prior to this recall work at sid dillon, the vehicle did not consume oil.after the recall work the vehicle immediately started to consume oil at the rate of one quart every 500 to 600 miles . The sis dillion dealership in conjunction with hyundai refuses to address this issue. Additionally, the knocking noise from the engine continues to concern me relative to the engine locking up and creating a stall condition while still in motion.

Was driving for an hour on the highway and just after i took an exit and was driving about 60km/hr my car shutdown and i had to come to a rolling stop off the side of the road, lights came on the dash, and i was unable to start the car again. Initial thoughts was the alternator as it was a hit day with the a/c full on. Then i had the vehicle towed an hour to a local shop, who informed me that the engine had blown up.

While driving straight down a busy city street at about 35 mph, the engine stopped and the car shut off without warning. I was nearly hit by a passing car when i stepped out of the vehicle. It would not start again. I was towed to the local hyundai dealer who said the engine needed to be replaced. They also said it is still under warranty with just 40,000 miles, but that hyundai may not cover the replacement/repair. The authorized dealer was required to send a detailed description and photographs to hyundai for them to determine if they would honor the warranty or not. I did receive an engine recall notice and had it inspected. I'm baffled as to why hyundai may not pay for it.

So i live in sunny ca. I have a 2013 santa fe sport 2.0t. The ecu relash recall was done three weeks ago and to be honest the car drove great before it was done. Flash forward to feb 18, 2019. I was returning from a vacation and the ecu recall kicked in. The speed of the vehicle dropped to 60mph. This wouldve been ok in a 55 mph area but all vehicles around me were traveling around 75mph or more. This became a scary scenario as i had to maneuver around two big rigs and cars to get off the freeway. Just so you know the acclerater didnt work only the breaks. I had my wife and kid in the car. This was terrifying. Once i pulled off the road i heard metal on metal clunking sounds. I had to get towed 56 miles to a hyundai dealership. Two days later hyundai called me...the engine was blown. Full engine replacement currently under way. I just wanted to share my scary story.
The contact owns a 2013 hyundai santa fe sport. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle jolted and the rpms decreased to 5 mph without warning. In addition, the contact stated that the failure occurred numerous times. The failure caused another vehicle to slightly bump the contact's vehicle because the speed independently decreased to 20 mph. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The contact had the vehicle towed to the local dealer (hyundai of petaluma 1230 auto center dr, petaluma, ca, 94952) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced due to poor maintenance. The engine was repaired and paid for by the contact. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure, but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v226000 (engine). The contact received the recall notification in june of 2017. The contact sought reimbursement from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000.
Driving down the highway at 70 mph the car stalled and then turned off completely. No power brakes, no power steering. Luckily i was driving and was able to coast of the road and down a ramp. Car failed to re-start or turn over. We were stuck on the side of the road for 3 hours in 100 degree heat waiting for help. I will never buy another hyundai. Nhtsa please do something about these faulty motors...someone will get killed if they have not already been.hyundai looked at the car and said they will replace the motor under warranty.
My wife and i bought a used 2013 santa fe sport last summer with around 79,000 miles on it.before we bought the car, we searched for recalls and found that certain 2013-2014 hyundai and kia models were affected by engine seizure due to improper machining.this being said, the vehicle we bought was supposedly out of the vin range of affected vehicles. Well guess what?!!less than a year after buying this vehicle, the engine seized with my wife driving up a hill on a busy highway.there is absolutely no excuse for a car that has been meticulously maintained to have catastrophic engine failure with less than 100k miles on it.this needs to be looked into!engine failure obviously extends to wider range of vehicles than the recall covers.we are some very unhappy customers.please look into this.
While driving 55 mph up a small incline my vehicle seemed to lose power. Since that moment the vehicle would not accelerate over 10 mph. I was able to make it home while at idle speed. The dealership now believes the engine has failed and will know more after full investigation.the engine was replaced on previous recall and the 'new' engine is experiencing failure reported before a recall was ever issued. Seems to be a larger issue here and the manufacturer still not being held responsible nor are they accepting responsibility. The reviews on similar experiences make it hard to believe the issue was ever addressed and the manufacturer continues to put individuals and families lives in danger.
The dealer didn't notify me about the recall #162.it turned on the engine light a lot of time and loss power when i'm driving.
The contact owns a 2013 hyundai santa fe sport. While driving 20 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart. Also, the vehicle experienced a jerking motion and the check engine indicator illuminated periodically. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (major hyundai 1534 n. 9th street, stroudsburg, pa 18360), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The parts were not available. The manufacturer stated that the remedy was not available and could not provide a time frame. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Hyundai santa fe engine recall. Please see attached explanation
I was driving down interstate i80 20 miles west of lincoln, ne at approximately 80mph. I heard a noise from the engine and it locked up immediately, the tachometer dropped to 0 rpm and i lost power steering. This vehicle had already had the recall performed for the known engine locking issue.without some quick reaction there very easily could have been severe injuries.
There are two separate incidents where i experienced complete engine failure in my sante fe sport 2.0t.invoice number ' 359131first occurred at 47,031 miles. On february 16, 2017 i was driving my vehicle with my son on the freeway when the check engine light appeared and my vehicle began jerking and making a loud clicking tapping sound slowing me down almost immediately. I lost power in my steering, vehicle was hard to maneuver. Hyundai attempted to repair the problem returned my vehicle and charged me partially for repair. Made contact with them about repair being a misdiagnosis as they first blamed the incident on air filter, serpentine belt, spark plugs, fuel injector cleaning, they replaced my fuel pump and engine block at no cost but charged me the other items. Work order number 201868the second incident occurred at 50,897 miles on july 14, 2017 i was traveling across states from el paso, texas to colorado springs, colorado with my 5 yr old son and my husband. We were traveling north on highway i-25 when our vehicle began to lose power and starting making the loud vibrations and tapping sounds like it had done the first time about 3,000 miles ago when i had the engine replaced. We were over taking a semi truck on the road when this happened we were barely able to recover our lane and pull off to the side of the road as we slowed down almost immediately the semi was able to brake and avoid rear ending us. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere about an hour away from alburquerque, new mexico. This was terrifying for my family and i. We had very little time to react and find a safe place to pull over. I believe my vehicle was not inspected properly through their quality control personnel. If there is debris inside my engine and it has continuously presented itself it will eventually travel through the rest of my engine ex. Turbo seals bearings.
Hyundai is having problems with the 2013 hyundai santa fe sport 2.0 turbo spark plugs gernading inside the head and cylinder combustion chamber. This is causing the vehicle to stall out while driving creating a safety hazard to the driver, occupants of the vehicle as well as other vehicles around the vehicle. My wife and sister in law while traveling on ca241 had this occur. The vehicle lost power, and she had to make evasive maneuvers to get the vehicle to the side of the road. She was able to get the vehicle to an off ramp where the santa fe then died and would not restart. This seems to be a big problem with their vehicles equipped the this engine as well as the 2.4i. Hyundai customer service does not seem to help with customers problems regarding this. They are evasive, and are telling customers they will call you with in 3-5 days. All the while your vehicle is sitting at the dealership not running and an engine that does not run. Hyundai needs to recognize this problem, offer it's customers a new engine for this catastrophic engine failure and not puts it's customers in danger of bodily harm or possibly death. How many lives should be sacrificed for the greed that hyundai is getting by not getting these unsafe vehicles repaired or off the road. This is not just a hyundai problem but a public safety problem as well.this engine failure is a known defect by hyundai, and not being repaired. This is a clear case of profit before safety. This vehicle was traveling at 65mph, which is the speed limit on ca241 when this failure occurred.
This car was included in the recall of over 1.5 million hyujdai and kia vehicles due to a factory defect that can lead to premature engine failure. This car broke down on april 28th, 2019. I am having it towed to the hyundai dealership for diagnosis. The "what to look for" section on hyundai's websites lists a number of symptoms of this recall issue and what i experienced when my car left me stranded along the highway is exactly what is described on the hyundai website. The engine also shutdown going 65mph on the highway.i wanted to bring this to your attention since the nhtsa was instrumental in ordering this recall. Thank you very much.
The contact owns a 2013 hyundai santa fe sport. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Kolar hyundai (4766 miller trunk hwy, hermantown, mn 55811, (218) 733-0200) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.
I was driving my vehicle at rate of speed of 75-80 mph on the interstate in considerable traffic.i began to reach slowed traffic and pressed my brake to slow down, when i did the engine completely stalled putting myself and my children in grave danger as we were surrounded by vehicles also going at 75-80 mph. No warning lights proceeded this happening.i was able to get my vehicle restarted and off the highway, still no alert lights appeared.i checked all belts, hoses, fluids and nothing appeared wrong.at a later stop, 316 miles from the initial incident, to refuel, the engine began clicking as i pulled off from the fueling station.i stopped again and checked all components and fluids, which all checked out ok.i tried to reenter the highway in hopes of getting closer to home when the engine again stalled.i pulled off the highway and got a hotel room and called hyundai to state this was the problem stated in their recall.they have been very resistant to help, even refusing to have the vehicle towed to the dealership.they are also refusing any reimbursements without signing a release of liability waiver that states i "release hma from any liability with respect toany claim that hma failed to conform the vehicle to warranty in connection with your concerns and the vehicle's repair history to date.you also acknowledge that any such concerns have been resolved as of the date of signing this letter."to date, nothing has been done other than the dealership looking at the vehicle and stating the vehicle is covered by the recall.no work has been started!i will gladly provide letter if requested!
Purchased 2013 santa fe sport in jan 2018, with 60k miles.7k miles added, to date.may 2018, drove through a car wash, water entered the cab through a seal above the dashboard.hyundai service investigated, replaced moon roof seal, and then reported that the moon roof seal was not the cause, further investigation needed, at a cost, to us, of $400.we respectfully declined.water entering the vehicle, during a heavy rain, could prove to be very dangerous. 6/02/18, merged onto highway, speed of 75 mph, 9:45 am, clear skies, fairly moderate traffic.without warning, engine lost all power, attempted to accelerate, negative results, non-responsive.vehicle began to slow, turned hazard warning lights on, and coasted to the next exit.there were approximately 4 cars behind me when i lost engine power. Fortunately, i was able to safely exit, the freeway, and coast downhill, to a nearby chevron station, without causing a major accident.(would my wife or children have been as fortunate?) turned the vehicle off and then on again.the vehicle had electrical power and initiated a self check, results unknown.the check engine warning light/battery light/oil light were all visible on the dash board.while the vehicle was performing a self diagnostic test...a cloud of smoke/burning smell emitted from the ac vent located near the radio.vehicle was towed to the hyundai dealer, where purchased.a diagnostic check and visual inspection revealed that the engine had seized and was related to previous engine recall.problem:machining errors during the engine manufacturing process may cause premature bearing wear within the engine, this couldresult in the engine seizing, increasing the risk of a crash.fix:dealers will inspect the engine and replace the engine short block, as necessary, for free.dangerous, busy highways, high speed.... Fatalities probable.
The contact owns a 2013 hyundai santa fe sport. The contact noticed after having an oil change, there was no oil in the engine several days later. The vehicle was taken back to an independent mechanic where the oil change was provided, and more oil was added. The contact noticed that several days later there was no oil in the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Suv stalled out on expressway at 50mph. The engine made a loud tapping noise then engline and oil light appeared on dashboard. I coasted down the exit ramp nearly being hit by merging traffic. The brakes became hard and costed to stop sign. I was able to get to next block to my home by placing car in park and restarting . The engine at this point sounds like a woodpecker tapping on wood. My vehicle has been towed to dealership and awaiting warranty repair.authorization. This event mirror the recall issued by hyundai and nhtsa#17v-226. I took the car in for this recall and was told30min later that my engine was affected. I found out that they should have taken my crankcase off not just do an oil change. I am still waiting on world hyundai to inspect my vehicle.
Engine malfunctioned and seized while in motion without warning on a city street. Theta ii style engine that hyundai has determined has to be replaced. There needs to be a recall for all hyundai's and kias with this engine.
The contact owns a 2013 hyundai santa fe sport. While driving 74 mph, the engine began to overheat and the temperature gauge increased steadily towards to 'h' zone, which indicated that the engine was becoming increasingly hot. The contact pulled over to the right side of the road and turned off the air conditioning to replenish the coolant system. Autonation hyundai in columbus, georgia was made aware of the failure and stated that the cause of the failure could not be determined. A process of elimination would have to occur in terms of replacement parts to determine a potentially successful repair of the condition. In addition, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v226000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the dealer stated that the vehicle did not exhibit the symptoms of the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and provided the contact with case number: 104-81-699. The failure mileage was 109,000.
The contact owns a 2013 hyundai santa fe sport. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power without warning. The vehicle was towed to hyundai of somerset (5090 hwy 27, somerset, ky) where it was confirmed that the failure was attributed to nhtsa campaign number: 17v226000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified and unable to confirm when the parts were to become available. The failure mileage 89,000.

Reset brake light assembly shorts out every year.this has been an on going issue since i have owned the car and the dealer always seems to be reluctant to repair it.this needs a recall urgentlet!
Obd fuel system sensor has failed nj inspection 4 times since march 2019.
While driving down the highway, the vehicle started to loose power, started having a vibration and could see smoke in the rear view mirror.i pulled over and the engine had caught fire.within minutes, the whole vehicle burst into flames.
Check engine light comes on, obd-ii trouble code p0087: fuel rail/system pressure - too low. High-pressure fuel pump failure and needs to be replaced.i experienced the symptoms of p0087: rough running, poor acceleration on the high way, and hard starting.

There is a rumbling noise after completing a turn, generally left hand turns. Also, during the turn, the engine oil light comes on and goes off
2 weeks ago my wife was driving home passing thru a neighboring subdivision at around 25-30 mph. As she was turning she heard a loud pop from the rear of the vehicle. She first thought is was a tire blown. After inspecting she noticed fluid coming out rear of vehicle. She promptly drove the vehicle to a friends house just up the road whom is a mechanic. After inspection he sent me pictures of the the rear differential housing and it was completely cracked in half. Car was taken for repair where we found out that the 10/100k my power train warranty is only valid for the first owner. That is a load of crap and a pathetic way for manufacturers to give these warranties out without having to cover the full term, as most people trade every 50-60k miles, or less. The 10/100k warranty was sold on the car but ended with a new owner at 32k on the odometer, now at just over 60k major failure. This seems a little unjust to me. Now luckily we did have an extended warranty from dealership where we purchased the car ( toyota of greenville, awesome people) and they unlike hyundai are doing whatever it takes to keep us happy and ensure our vehicle gets fixed in a timely manner. So in short, i will never by another hyundai again after their unwillingness to take this gross and potentially catastrophic failure with any concern or seriouness and hide behind some claus that basically says that their spoken 10yr/100k warranty is worthless !!!!
On several occasions, the vehicle lost all power while in motion.it happened while driving 55mph, it has happened while driving 20 mph, as well as just sitting at a stop light.every other time the vehicle is started, the check engine light comes then goes off, on/off, on/off etc...and just as often as the lights changes the shifting it's extremely hard when shifting gears.then the very next day, it runs perfectly fine.however, it reaches extremely high rpm's before shifting.when it does that, it literally feels like the bottom of the car is going to fall out from underneath.maybe pure coincidence but none of this started until i had taken the vehicle in for recall notifications.i contacted the dealer when it happened and they said nothing they did would have caused any of this to happen.and of course, when you take it to have someone look at it, it never runs "other than normal".the vehicle is onlygoing on almost 5 yrs old, and has 68,530 miles.
Vehicle has slightly over 78,000 miles. Engine seized while merging onto the highway. I am not being told that the engine needs to be replaced. The dealership sold us the wrong warranty, gave us an outdated car fax report, and is saying that nothing can be done.

Made a left turn while driving under normal condition (enter the turn from a complete stop and accelerating to about 15 mph).a loud bang was heard in the rear of the vehicle, while in the turn, followed by a brief vibration.i made an immediate right turn on to a nearby side street and felt the vibration again, but no noise was heard.the vehicle was parked in a safe location a few hundred feet from where the initial noise was heard.upon looking at and then under the rear of the vehicle a blackish/gray fluid was leaking from the area of the rear differential.roadside assistance was called and a tow truck responded within an hour.the vehicle was towed to a near by hyundai dealership for inspection and repair.the day after the incident a service manager from the dealership called me and reported that the housing for the rear differential cracked.the differential will be replaced and covered under warranty.
Rear differential failed
Tamara recall. -the frame on the drivers seat has cracked and is coming apart, making all equipment on the seat to come apart. Unknown when it actually happened noticed one day when i got out of the car
The drivers seat is loose and will rock back and forth. It occurs in motion and when stationary. It feels like in an accident it may become dislodged. It has been recommended to replace the seat tracks.

When driving at speeds above 45 mph the car is unstable. It consistently swerves to the left and to the right forcing the driver to constantly adjust the steering. It does not matter what mode the steering is in. It does it in all three modes. It feels unsafe and unsettling.

The paint is flaking/peeling on hood, roof and back bumper. Ranging from tiny spots al the way to large areas (approx. 6 inches x 3 inches) ias well as the trim down the sides on the paint in peeling off as well. I have checked and seen that this has been reported by several owners of this same make and model appearing to be the same in color also) please consider recalling andcorrecting this problem, giving people confidence in your company again. There have been numerous recalls on this model already so it would be appreciated if this would be recognized as a problem with either this model or specific color being a defect in the white paint.i don't think with this problem i can specify if vehicle was moving or staionary as information asked to include in all complaints. I have about 3 more pictures of damage that wouldn't fit in photo section
The rear and front suspension make a noise even when the car was stationary. Even when the doors are closing, the noise came out from the suspension. It's been this way from the beginning of driving my car.

The camera backup stopped working. I've seen on youtube that these cameras were poorly made. It's very difficult to see when backing up. I've check with hyundaithey are very expensive to replace.
While vehicle parked, the sunroof spontaneously exploded. There was nothing contributed to the explosion, nothing hit the sunroof it just looks like it bulged out and shattered. Glass fell inside the vehicle on driver
On multiple occasions over last month my vehicle rpm shoot way up and the engine revs up when excellerating from a stopped position. Could be a stop light, to make a turn or from backing up and going into drive. Lasts about 15-30 seconds. When this happens the vehicle jerks forward. There are no check engine or any other lights that come on. I have taken to two separate shops and they say they can not find anything wrong, especially because the engine light doesn't come on. I carry small children in my vehicle and i am concerned of our safety. I have seen multiple reports of people's vehicles accelerating on their own and causing crashes.
Santafe won't start. Everything comes on dash and radio and ac but car won't even turn over. I talked to a mechanic who said this has been a reacuring problem. Just wondering why no recall if it keeps happening. I came home and when i tried to leave it wouldn't start. Waited and it started. Then i got up the next day and again won't start.

My 2013 hyundai santa fe sport 2.0t is on the rexalll list for engine problems;it was at dealer last week wher they changed out fuel pump & supposedly corrected an issue w metal debris in oil going to engine.had problems less than 48 hours later; was told i could bring it in or take to get battery tested.now,48 hours after that check engine light is on.i believe the engine needs to be replaced as this is part of the recall on this model.it doesn't sound or feel right compared to you how it was driving a month ago when i purchased used with 36k miles.
Hyundai is unable to transfer ownership when you buy a used vehicle in referenceto the blue link controls. The original owner will maintain remote control of the door lock/unlock features as well as remote start and stop functions. You will be unable to purchase the safety features and unable to contact emergency services should the need arise. I am able to provide full email conversations with hyundai blue link where they have been completely unhelpful up to the point they stopped communications with me by ignoring my repeated inquiries. I do not know who to file a vehicle complaint with. I have been trying to get this fixed since i bought the vehicle 9 months ago.
Hood latch recall.i began the process of getting the hood latch cable replaced in august after learning of the recall.i feel that hyundai made it purposefully difficult for me to get a replacement part.i was originally requested to drive over 3 hours to get to a dealer, and my reimbursement request went unanswered for several months.i was asked multiple times for identical identifying information and receipts, and was given information in a timely manner.at this date, i still have not received reimbursement for replacing this part.due to my interactions, i believe hyundai is purposefully making the replacement of this part a burden on consumers.
My 2013 hyundai santa fe sport has a panoramic sunroof that exploded on october 9th 2018 while i was driving (pictures attached). I had just left work less than one minute down the road when i heard crackling noise followed by a loud explosion and then sounds of a lot of chattering hitting the shade, followed by wind and outside noise (like i opened a window). When it was safe to pull over to check what had happened. I found the front glass of the sunroof exploded up and out! i had the shade closed so the glass didn't get in the vehicle. I immediately took pictures and called the dealership i bought the vehicle that was able to take the vehicle in later that same day and would have to leave it overnight. I received a call from their service dept. The next day telling me that hyundai would not cover the sunroof!i had never heard of this happening to a panoramic roof before. So, i did some research online to find this has happened numerous times and hyundai knows of the issue. If this is a known issue, i do not understand why hyundai would not cover the repair? why there is not a recall or warning that this can happen?
Sunroof exploded while driving......we were driving on a four lane highway on a cloudy afternoon. Temp was 47 degrees and traveling at 65 mph on a straight stretch. The closest car in front of us was 1/2 mile. All of a sudden a loud shotgun like sound and glass everywhere. The front section of our panoramic sunroof exploded. My wife was in the front passenger seat and my 19 month old was in the back seat. Glass was on all of us.
While in reverse backing camera screen blacks out for several seconds while car is backinga. (everytime)
