Takata recall"4. The airbag light will not go off. Atlanta police stated i not drive the car and to report it. My family lives could be in danger. No mechanic wanted to touch it. I would very much like to this these items repaired, especially the airbag signal/light. I don't know if it will go off or not but i need this done before anything else. I will upload the picture via email. System issues. I purchased a used 2009 genesis sedan in september of 2015. We have noticed that several unusual issues have surfaced since the purchase. I was never notified of any of the recalls or potential issues below. 1. The console for the seater heaters are melted or got overheated and is damaged.2. When the brakes need updated they are very dry (per the repairman) recall - 114.3. Window shield wiper seems to have a defect.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, he crashed into another vehicle that was stopped on an on ramp and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained a concussion and a police report was filed. The vehicle was able to be driven away from the crash scene. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was taken to another dealer for a second opinion who stated that after inspecting the vehicle and looking at a picture of the crash he determined that the damages on the vehicle were not significant enough to cause the air bags to deploy. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 38,000.
This has been an ongoing issue, i have filed at least 4 complaints concerning a "soft pedal " issue. The dealer has inspected my vehicle recently as well as hyundai america and i am still awaiting a responseas to what was found. The vehicle was inspected on 1/22/2014. Note on service invoice states " dpsm has been out to drive and inspect vehicle. No person from parkway hyundai can give any further information. This is a matter for hyundai motor america." it has been 5 months since the inspection and hma has still not contacted me.i don't know what is going on with this website but it nolonger shows the genesis under hyundaiif searching for complaints, recalls or investigation. As we approach this holiday period i hope that there are no serious accidents as a result of the "soft pedal" issue as well as a read collision at low speed that triggers the head seat restraint to deploy and throws both front seat passengers forward and the seat belts won't deploy at this low speed.just another complaint that hasn't been address. Is the nhtsa overloaded with all the recalls fromindication over the years. Gm as an example.
"i was subjected to a sudden acceleration last night while driving my 2009 hyundai genesis 4.6.i left a full stop and sighted another car speeding toward a stop sign coming from my left. To avoid being broadsided i swerved to avoid and my accelerator jammed. I sped across the street and into a landscaped area. I hit a tree at that point which brought my vehicle to a stop. The driver side air bag deployed and i was wearing a seat belt. I sustained some impact injuries that appear to be of a minor nature.a lake was located just beyond the tree and i deliberately selected the medium size tree as a target. I was fortunate.i sustained a back injury some years ago and drive with two feet - one for the accelerator and one for the brake. There was therefore no chance that my foot slipped from one pedal to the other.ref: hyundai genesis 4.6 2009.

Driving on the freeway and the throttle just cuts off, no throttle power. Car is still running. Quickly had to pull over on to the side of the road and had to shut car off and then restarted it. It worked but it continues to happen. It happened seven times in one day, with my child in the car. At one point there wasn't a shoulder to pull over to i had to stop in the middle of the freeway. Hyundai has no recall for this issue. I find that strange since this could be a serious issue. The esc and check engine light comes on.
Had a similar problem earlier today while taking the car out to get dinner. As i was approaching the freeway exit my car suddenly stalled and the steering wheel seemed to stiffen and the navi screen went out then back on. I pulled over emergency lane and waited to see what would happen and music continued up again from the usb port but i couldn't change the song. On the navi screen where usb setting is saying " initialization failed". So i pulled the usb stick to reset it and got it to work. I was able to go to dinner then drive back home without incident. But later on that night i tried to start my car but as soon as i hit the start button everything died. No power to anything no alarm no use of keyless entry no power at all. Then i come back to the car a few hours later that night and open the trunk manually with the key to get something and as soon as i slam the trunk down all the power came back hids, brake lights, lexicon system music playing. Except when i try to turn on the engine with the start button it won't start. Then everything shuts off like before i'm at a loss. But eeriely i been having problems like the previous poster with topping of gas issues because the car doesn't know when to stop pumping gas sometimes when full and a few times the car spewed out some fuel. I'm not sure if that is related to my recent stall incident but i've plans to driving from san jose back home to los angeles tomorrow on labor day and i'm scared to. What if the car stalls on mountain freeway over pass and it stalls and lose steering and brakes. I don't know if the dealer is even open labor day. What should i do? help!
Traveling to indiana from north carolina on the 6th of may 2011. On a rural road traveling approximately 55 mph,all of a sudden the engine light and esc warning lights came on. After that when i pressed on the accelerator, there was no power. Electricity was still there and the engine was still on, but no power from the gas pedal. I had to turn the emergency lights on and moved onto the side. I was lucky because there weren't many cars around.it would have been pretty dangerous if there were cars around and my car suddenly stopped. I was able to turn the car off and restart. When i restarted the car the engine light remained on but i had regain the ability to accelerate. I pulled into a hotel and called hyundai. The closest dealer was gaddis hyundai of muncie, indiana. The service department was closing but i discussed with technician. He indicated that it was common problem with the throttle sensor. He indicated that he would be able to fix it monday, but that if the light went off and it was running ok, it may never happen again. I told him that i need to be durham , ncon monday. He indicated that if it happen again. To turn off and restart and it should reset. On my way back from indiana to north carolina i stayed in the right hand lane. On 4 separate occasions the vehicle lost power and i was unable to accelerate. Each timei was able to pull over to the side of the road, turn the vehicle off, wait a few minutes and then restart and continue. The car is currently at the stevenson hyundai dealership in jacksonville, nc.here is a forum web site that reflects similar problem identified on numerous occasions related to the hyundai genesis v6 and v8.http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=4459.
Brakes lights have gone out.hyundai is aware of the problem but i am not aware of any recall.hyundai issued tsb 09-be-023technical service bulletin 09-be-023, stop lamp z01 diode inspection procedure, appears to describe the location and procedure for troubleshooting of the diode but describes the issue as " . . . Vehicles may experience the stop lamps blinking on and off even when brakes are not applied."
Was driving car to meet my husband and when i turned the corner, he was frantically waving me to get out of the car because it was on fire, in the front under the driver's side bumper. I got out and saw flames shooting from under the bumper. With the fire department on the way, we made several attempts to put the fire out w/water to no avail. A nearby store owner came out with a fire extinguisher and was able to put the fire out. Once fire department arrived, he indicated that it appeared to be an electrical fire. Once they moved the car, my husband attempted to start it and it started billowing out smoke. At that point, the fire department ordered him to turn it off and have the car towed and to not drive the vehicle again
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that the vehicle was recently purchased. The contact experienced a failure in starting the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to south loop hyundai located (8811 lakes at 610 dr, houston, tx 77054,(713) 341-3413) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that all the wiring harnesses in the vehicle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Power steering has failed while driving multiple times during the past 18 months. I have brought the car in for service at my local dealership for the same problem multiple times. The power steering has been replaced twice and the rack and pinion has been replaced but the problem persists. A fault code generated from the power steering failure but hyundai mechanics and hyundai corporate do not recognize the code. Unbelievable!
While driving my 2009 hyundai genesis i was motioned by driver behind me of no brake lights i quickly pulled over and engine running and sure enough my cousin who was with me saidi had no brake lights,i the went to the nearest auto parts place turned engine off, and asked the manager what to do.his suggestion was check the fuses, which i did, they where fine.at that point i decided to drive home, car won't start won't come out of park and warned steering locked .i then called roadside assistance provided free of charge by hyundai.the driver of the tow truck could not start the car could not turn wheel he then when under the dash brokesteering lock mechanism and was able to turn the wheel, car still wont start.after all the repairs where done i was charged$1461.01 for replacement of lock assembly ,diode, bolt safety lock, wire jumper.i feel this all thing was due to brake light failure and the rest of the damage by the tow truck driver.we are in litigation.
Upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel remains in upper position and interior position, similar to bus steering wheel. It cannot be moved with the electrical positioning button on the steering column and therefore is not safely drivable in this position. Major safety issue
I visited hyundai dealer near my home sage hyundai located at 200 n vermont ave, los angeles, ca 90004 for stop lamp of my 2009 genesis sedan 3.8 stopped working about a week ago after one of vehicle behind almosted rear ended my car and they informed me about stop lamp did not illuminated. I discovered it was hyundai recall campaign nhtsa #:14v713000, hyundai recall # 125. They service department of the dealer did not do any repair and just let me go. And service rep. Stated that the recall is limited to only on stoplamp switch not on any other related circuit. They never had any diagonostics performed. I had to drive home in very dangerous situation without stop lamp light working. There are always stop and go traffic where my home is. I was very scared when i drove home.
Recurrent/ongoing brakes lights failure since june 2012 (brake lamp diode blows out frequently causing brake lamps to be inoperative).spongy brakes. Have to pump and push harder than normal on brake pedal to stop. Car serviced at tameron hyundai dealer in b'ham, al (states esc hydraulic module internal valve malfunction, needs replacement).....updated 05/20/14 the consumer no longer owns this vehicle. The vehicle was voluntarily released to the creditor and was sold april 2014. The consumer does not know if the vehicle was repaired. Updated 05/28/2014
Trunk closes hard, almost took my hand......radio.cd deck has always had a wiring problem, and they say they fixed it
2009 hyundai genesis 3.8 4d sedan with 55000 miles. Lately, my car dash will blink "p" which is a notification for transmission is on parked even the shifter is in a different mode. This happens randomly and i am worried hope don't lockup transmission during the high speed. I have recorded a video of this scenario if asked. Btw this happens in both in motion or in stationarymode.
At approximately 7:50am on my way to work, heading westbound on rodeo rd and was going to make a left turn at cloverdale my car stalled.during the stall the engine cutoff and the electrical power in the car seemed to reset itself.as i was coming to a stop, i could feel the brakes not working and i put the car into park and tried to restart the engine by pushing on the start/stop button.when that didn't work, all the power in the car went out and nothing worked, no emergency lights, no power anything.i called roadside assistance and had them tow to the nearest dealership.this is the second time this has happened.the first was on sunday night september 6th, 2015 at around 8pm in san jose.i put that as a complaint on this system at that time.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, he depressed the brake pedal but it went to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the abs module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,000. The vin was unavailable. Vin added* smch updated 10/31/13the consumer also stated the electronics started to malfunction. The bluetooth would continuously disconnect the navigation system would freeze.
(electrial issues)reported to dealer that radio crackles and stop working as well as the blue tooth that only works maybe 1/8 of the time. They found"no problems" (on my first of 5 trips to the dealer within 7 monthsback up camera stopped working. (replaced)steering wheel stuck up in the high position driver seat cushion buckled and had to be replaced, (replaced in feb 2011)fuel gauge/warning light failed which caused me to run out of gas. (no warning lights came on and the miles to go states i had 56 miles)part is on order for radio or radio replaced not sure as of 9/27/11. Hoping all this will also fix the blue tooth as the dealer states this is no problem.dash light go out.so after only 7 months of owning this car, the car has been back to the dealer at least 5 times (with problems), the most recent, 9/26/11 i took car in and told them to keep it until all fixed (they have had the cars for 3 days so far). The problem is that it is electrical and unless they see it they can't fix it. With each of failure this car has i would document with a picture to proved i wasn't crazy!!so whats the deal with the blue tooth, its not my phone as it is paired and connected. The only way it will work is that if i unpair my phone while in the car before starting, start the car, pair the phone, connect the phone, wait 5 min and i might get lucky than it will work.i can dial thru the car, shows who i dialing, my phone say blue tooth on, but will not work, display pad, will show repeated that the call has ended, and flash back and forth to dial pad and message call has ended, while i had to switch from blue tooth to speaker and talk directly to hand held phone. When a call comes my phone rings, the speaker in the car rings, but the bluetooth is unable to p/u the car. Sofrustating!
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated all of the electrical lights would intermittently fail without warning. The failure would include the interior lights, dashboard warning lights and exterior lighting. The dealer replaced the wiring harness on the vehicle, but the repair did not correct the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000 and the current mileage was 20,000.
The brakes light have failed more than once and now don't work at all... I looked deeper into the issue and it looks like a diode needs to be replaced. This needs to be a recall it is a major safety issue and has happened to numerous owners.
I have encounter this problem multiple time with this vehicle through out my ownership. I bought the vehicle new and have encountered lost of brake lights repeatedly. I am usually informed during a scheduled maintenance that i have no brake lights. The service department replace the z01 diode, but it doesn't seem to be a permanent fix, because i've had this part replaced repeatedly due to lost of brake lights. The lost of brake lights is a very danger situation for all drivers that could result in crash, injury and fatalities.this seems to be a common issue with hyundai genesis vehicles per my investigation online.
Vehicle was in motion on city street when another motorist signaled that flames were coming out of front drivers side bumper. Fortunately, my wife was nearing home and pulled over in front our house where i sprayed and soaked area of fire until it receded. When i was able to view damage, the drivers side fog light bulb and housing had dropped thru the large hole which had burned thru the plastic bumper. The bulb and housing evidently dislodged from the fog light socket and dropped into the surrounding plastic bumper below and triggered the fire . Our complaint is that the car has at least ten dealer service repairs which shows replacement of several lights and bulbs including the fog light involved in the fire. Further, the replacement of bulbs thru out the vehicle has solely been done at the dealer for the simple reason the replacement of the fog lights needs to be done by a certified mechanic. An insinuation by the dealer that we are somehow responsible for this fire and the cost of replacing the fog light and bumper is absurd and false. I am learning how to scan and upload and will forward the dealer repair invoices soon.
This car has electrical problems. I saw a low battery indicator light on my dashboard while driving. I replaced the battery with a new battery from auto parts store. That new battery died on one week. Had to tow my car to the mechanic. Diagnosed with a weak alternator. Not a dead alternator but a weak alternator. I was told this is common with the genesis cars. The weak alternator caused electrical problems for the rest of the car causing weird electrical problems occasionally.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis.the contact stated that in december 2010, he began to notice that the battery continued to fail. On the third time, the dealer replaced the battery which did not solve the problem.a hyundaiengineer inspected the vehicle and advised the dealer to order and install a more powerful battery.the failure had not recurred since the second battery was installed. The current and failure mileages were 13,500.
I have filed two other complaints on this issue ( 10548785 & 10558354 ) and had hyundai address it without any satisfactory resolution. The latest response by hyundai was to inspected the vehicle which was done on 1/23/2014 . At that time, i was told that hyundai would contact me on the found results of this "inspection". Well here it is 2 mos later and i have not received any response from the person doingthe inspection or from hyundai. I recently contact hyundai concerning this lack of response and was toldthat there wasn't a problem and that the vehicle issue is "normal " for the vehicle. I requested a letterfrom hyundai stating specifically that" this soft pedal condition is a normal operating condition for the genesis and that it is safe". I have not heard back from hyundai to date.my concern is that hyundai is stonewalling this issue just like gm has done with the issue of the faulty ignition that was known to be a problem years ago and is now coming to light. Where has the nhtsa been for all these years? what is the status of the investigation by nhtsa concerning the soft pedal problem with the genesis?i will keep this as an open issue until the investigation is complete; let's hope it isn't buried in the nhtsafiles for years like in the case of the gm issue with the faulty ignition switch.these investigations should be completed in 90 days or less.
While driving at 65 mph in 4 lane i-95 rush hour traffic, the check engine light and the esc light both came on and the car would not accelerate. Pressing on the gas pedal had no effect. I turned on flashers and drifted my way through 3 lanes and pulled over and restarted the car. The check engine light came on but not the esc light. The car ran a bit rough with the check engine light on. The exact same thing happened the next day. I took the car to the dealer, and they replaced the throttle position sensor. Based on owner reports at the genesis owners web site, this has happened to many owners of 2009 v6 hyundai genesis. This is very dangerous, and the car should be recalled to fix this potential deadly situation. If i had been driving in the left lane of a highway, a serious accident with potential deaths could have happened. I had to pay 325 dollars to have this issue fixed since it has not been recalled. Please work with hyundai to ensure this major safety issue is recalled urgently.

On several occasions since 2/16/13 i have been having intermittent problems of brake pedal gradually going down to the floor at a stop light or while waiting at a stop light the brakes would gradually lose pressure and the car would start creeping forward.this has been occurring whether i am driving 30 mph on residential streets or 70 mph on highway (which i stopped doing!).my husband also drives the car and experienced the same issues.after pumping the brakes, i was finally able to stop.driving in inclement weather has been almost hazardous.car taken back to dealer (march 7, 2013), had part replaced, picked up caron march 8, 2013and had to take the car back the very next morning, march 9, 2013,and the problem was worse than when it was taken in the first time.when this started happening, i was very afraid of having an accident, especially when i never could tell if my brakes would hold with just a simple stop light.i have spoken with other genesis 2009 owners and found out that this problems as been occurring since july 2012 and hyundai has been made aware of this problem and certain dealers are not handling the repairs in a customer friendly way, especially since isdefinitely a safety issue.
Hyundai genesis 3.8l v6 2009 model1. Steering pull to left - significant pull despite alignment fix 2. Brake jam at low speeds including at traffic light stops3. Steering noise - when turning left during car parking and back-up 4. Engine noise like motor cycle when driving at moderate speeds 30-65 miles/hour.
While driving at 65 mph, the check engine light and the esc light both came on and the car would not accelerate.pressing on the gas pedal had no effect.i pulled over and restarted the car.the check engine light came on but not the esc light.the car ran a bit rough with the check engine light on.the exact same thing happened the next day.i took the car to the dealer, and they replaced the throttle position sensor.based on owner reports at the genesis owners web site, this has happened to many owners of 2009 v6 hyundai genesis.this is very dangerous, and the car should be recalled to fix this potential deadly situation.if i had been driving in the left lane of a highway, a serious accident with potential deaths could have happened.
While traveling on the highway, the brake pedal went nearly to the floor before the car began to decelerate. It was clear that the car could only slow moderately regardless of how hard i pressed the brake pedal, and there was no brake engagement at the top of the pedal travel.at home, i took photos of the pedal displacement relative to the firewall and can provide them.photo 1 shows the state of the pedal when i arrived home. Imagine the amount of pedal force you might use while parallel parking or slowing for an off ramp on the highway. With that amount of force, the pedal was within ~2" of the firewall.pumping the brake pedal led to increased "feel" and restoring brake effectiveness. Photo 2 shows a larger gap to the firewall after 5 pedal repetitions, and with increased force applied. Photo 3 shows an even larger gap after ~20 pedal repetitions and even higher force applied.the final photo shows that at maximum force, i could only get the pedal to ~3" from the firewall. This was similar to the state that the vehicle was in this morning, and felt "normal" in terms of pedal effort and travel.to reiterate: during the failure, the pedal would push to within 2" of the firewall with minimal effort, and with little braking effectiveness.i could not have performed a panic braking maneuver in this state, and only continued to drive due to the lack of traffic and proximity to my home.after subsequent pedal cycling in my driveway, i could only get the pedal to more than 3" from the firewall with maximum effort, and the base braking function appeared to be normal.to date, the dealer has been unable to reproduce the problem and thus unable to gain authorization from hma to perform any repair.i consider the car undriveable.this vehicle was already serviced for the hecu/brake fluid recall.hecu passed the screening at that time.
I own a 2009 hyundai genesis clearly affected by the recall on brake fluid that affects the brake module. My car has been deemed too dangerous to drive, but was never included in the recall efforts according to my service advisor.i being asked to pay an exorbitant amount to replace the abs module.my advisor has informed me that my vin # is not included in the recall efforts.so, it appears that although i own a 2009 which is a year that is affected with this problem....my safety does not matter for some reason.my car is experiencing the same issues and will probably create an accident if it is driven.my car should also be included and i do not understand why it is not.the brakes can be depressed all the way to floor board and the car will still begin to roll forward.it will not stop completely!this has been an ongoing issue for a months now and the dealer is telling me my car is not covered by this recall! i am putting today's date, but it has been months now and my safety should be considered as well before something terrible happens.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While driving approximately 75 mph, the brake pedal felt stiff and made an abnormal noise. The vehicle slowed down to 30 mph and would not increase when the accelerator pedal was depressed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact proceeded to pull over to the shoulder and called roadside service. Thevehicle was turned off and restarted. The electronic stabilty control light iluminated and the vehicle resumed normal operation. The dealer stated that the brake rotors overheated. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 70,060.
For the fifth time i am having an oxygen sensor replaced on my genesis (the vehicle has 4).the symptom has been a "check engine light" that results in an intermittent, occasional problem when stopped and idling.the engine light starts to flash, the engine begins to idle very roughly, and there's barely enough power to creep through the intersection.this condition clears up pretty quickly but the light remains on.the flashing light/rough idle/loss of power recurs.the problem has occurred requiring an oxygen sensor change five times starting in mid-2016 at around 100,000 miles.
The car had recently gotten a major service at the dealership in early august.the car had not been driven much since that service as the primary driver was unable to drive the car from mid august through the time of the incident.this is a car that was well maintained through dealership servicing.the car was being driven on the freeway at night at the approximate speed of 65 mph.suddenly, a loud metallic clank, clank clank came from underneath the car.it sounded as if we had run over something on the freeway.directly following this, the car lost all power and we noticed the smell of electrical burning.we were unable to accelerate and the headlights began to dim.luckily, we were able to steer the car off the next off ramp & bring the car to a stop but the power steering and power braking were gone.had this not occurred on a sunday night, the results could have been very different.once safely to the side of , we smelled a strong electrical burning smell in the passenger compartment.we did not witness evidence of fire or smoke.initially, the lights went out completely.they slowly powered back on but each time keyless start button was pushed, the lights would begin to dim again.the car was towed to the dealership.the dealership called the following day to let us know that the engine had a hole in the block. From their assessment, this was not caused by an external force but from the failure of an internal component.we filed a claim with hyundai corporate who deemed that the problem was not caused by a manufacturer's defect.
My car shut off/the engine lost power, while sitting in traffic. I felt a slight rough idle, then realized all my dash lights were on, and the engine was not running. I placed the car in park, and pushed the engine start button. Car started back up, but every time i stopped i had to place the car in park and keep my foot slightly on the gas to keep it from idling roughly and shutting off again. I had to do this for a half hour until i reached my destination. After setting for 4 hours the car started fine and i had not further issues. But my fear is that it will happen again while in traffic or possibly while driving, which could cause an accident.
Engine just shuts off while driving.it becomes difficult to steer and control.i was barely able to move to the side of the street and the car behind me almost ran into me because of my loss of power.there are no warning lights and the radio, etc. All stayed on during this event. I had to put the car in park and restart the engine.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the sensor assembly oxygen sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,199.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart. The failure occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (gosch hyundai 100 carriage circle, hemet, ca, 92545), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to schedule an appointment with the local dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. The vin was not available.

Traveling to indiana from north carolina on the 6th of may 2011. On a rural road traveling approximately 55 mph,all of a sudden the engine light and esc warning lights came on.
I was driving my 2009 hyundai genesis 3.8 v6 sedan on georgia 400 north (north of atlanta, ga) on monday, july 12 when the gas pedal didn't respond as i depressed it.after that when i pressed on the accelerator, there was no power.gas pedal was intermittent in it's response initially. Electricity was still there and the engine was still on, but no power from the gas pedal. I had to turn the emergency lights on and moved onto the side. The car would start but wouldn't stay powered so i had to call hyundai roadside assistance for a tow.towed to local dealership in roswell. Put it on the computer to check codes but didn't find anything. Local dealership kept car 2 days, called hyundai corporate, and was told to flash the computer. Dealership took for a couple of test drives but problem didn't re occur.genesis owners forum has a similar occurance listed. Very concerned about a possible reoccurance that may not have such a pleasant outcome if i lose power again.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, a fellow motorist alerted him that the brake lights were not illuminating. There was no warning light illuminated to alert him of the failure. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and saw that the fuse was not blown. The contact also noticed that the headlights were inoperable unless the switch was set to auto mode. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 14v713000 (exterior lighting) however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 138,526.
Was traveling on vacation and was notified by another motorist that i had no brake lights.took to dealer and they replaced stop lamp switch (#13-01-021-3).vehicle was still under warranty and no cost for repair.dealership did not indicate that there was a recall or service bulletin on this part or with this issue.had a second incident, similar as the first only this time the brake lights flickered when brake was applied.i was nearly rear ended by a motorist and then was stopped at a light by that motorist to tell me of the issue.the following day i smelled a very heavy electrical smell when i started the vehicle.i again took the vehicle to the dealership and they fixed the same stop lamp switch (diode) at no cost.however, the dealer said they had not had any genesis in for a second time with this issue.the service manager suggested that i was "riding the brake" and suggested that this might cause the issue. Again, there was no mention by the dealership that there was a recall or service bulletin for this issue.
In july ,2014 , i was told by another driver that the stop lights were not functioning; i immediately took the vehicle to my local mechanic after my hyundai dealer told me that it was not covered under my warranty.it was corrected the next day after my car was left until fixed.i was just notified by nhtsa that a recall ( campaign # 14v713)was just issued for faulty stoplight problem. I called my local hyundai dealer to see about re-imbursement and was told that there wasn'ta recall issued yet for this problem and was given the # for customer care.i just got off the phone with hyundai motor america and was told that the recall was being worked on ( campaign 125) and that i would be receiving a letter in the future. I asked if that would be in days, weeks , months or years ,he said he did not know. Remember the brake fluid recall !now here we go again...........a safety issuebut not a serious issue for hyundai.you would think that an immediate notification would go out to each dealer so every vehicle that they service could be brought to the dealer for immediate corrective action. This could prevent a future rearcollision and possible injury/ death.is this yet another industry stone walling of a" safety issue " ie key switch and air bag.hopefully a fellow genesis owner will not have a serious rear end collision in the near future.
All 3 brake lights stopped working. My wife driving behind me discovered the problem.this is the 2nd time of the same problem. (the 1st incident was also reported to nhtsa.) the first time dealer fixed it, it's a burnt diode. Afterward a recall service was performed about brake light. Apparently none fixed the real issue. I am an electric engineer and i guess it was a common design mistake: the designer didn't count momentary high current from cold light bulb when choosing the component.
No brake lights when brake applied! i was told by passing car that almost rear ended me. I was completely unaware how long it had been like that as there was no indicator light. .... Updated 10-17-13 the consumer has since traded the vehicle.
To my surprise i was stopped by a police officer in march 2013 because none of the brake lights were working. He issued a fix-it ticket. I took the car to a hyundai dealership and they replaced a diode to fix the problem. Now less than six months later on august 31, 2013 i was told by another driver that my brake lights were not working (again). I took it to a hyundai dealership and they replaced the diode again. Despite my asking why the brake lights keep failing, hyundai dealership did not provide an explanation. This is dangerous because the vehicle operator has no knowledge of when the brake lights stop working and it could result in my vehicle being rear ended. I have no idea how long i was driving both times w/o brake lights working.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who informed the contact that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v713000 (exterior lighting). The contact received the repair for the recall; however, the failure of the brake pedal was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case on the vehicle. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Updated 01/05/2017*ctthe consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for a brake fluid inspection, due to brake failure and the stop lamp recall. The stop lamp recall was performed, but the brake failure issue was ignored.the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer a second time, to have another recall performed and the brake failure was ignored again.
The brake lights repeatedly do not work and there is no warning to driver on dash board.this has now occurred three time:november 8, 2011april 20, 2013june 16, 2014.

My brake lights will not come on when i press the brake pedal. I have had the fuses checked and they are all working. I contacted my local hyundai dealership after researching the recall on the brake light switch. They will not perform the recall because they said it was already done twice. But there is obviously a proble if its happening again.

The dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing, but the location was over an hour and a half away. The failure mileage was approximately 165,000.
Brake lights quit working entirely.there was a recall on the brake switch on this vehicle which was replaced on 12/08/13.seven months later there is a problem with the brake lights and the service manager is telling me now it is a led diode.this diode, z01, seems to be a problem.i did not have any issues with my brake lights before the recall work was done and,i've own this car since it was new, now 7 months later i have a brake light issue.this is a serious matter and should be rectified.

While the vehicle was idling or in low rpm it would start to sputter as if it was going to stall. I returned the vehicle to the dealer and it was a fault throttle sensor.
In stop & go traffic - transmission in d - with my foot on the brake, the car started to accelerate -drive wheels spun and screeched - put transmission in neutral - car seemed to return to normal.

When starting out slow, lise at a stop light, if it is necessary to lift off the accelerator briefly, the transmission seems to go into a high gear and the car just coasts with no power.by presing the accelerator hard, a jackrabbit start results when the transmission does finally shift down.this can be very scary.i have talked to other owners and this is a common problem.

I am filing another complaint to record this critical design issue based on all the recent cover-ups by theautomotive industry. On nov 10th,2013 my vehicle was hit in the rear while traveling approximately 25 mphby another vehicle at a speed slightly faster then my vehicle. When the vehicle hit us, the headrests deployedmoving our heads forward but the seat belts did not restrain both the driver and the passenger. The driver sustained head trauma as a result. I contacted hyundai motors about this serious condition and after manyletters they said that the vehicle met all the test data in a collision. What they didn't say is that there isn't a test for rear collisions required by the nhtsb. There is an issue with the design of the headrests and the function of the seatbelt restraining capability. This can only be proven by either arear collision resulting inserious injury or death or conducting a rear end collision at a slow speed by both vehicles.hyundai did inspect the vehicle and the seatbelts ( measured them ; only inspection that could be made).do we need to see another death resulting in the nhtsb and the auto industryavoiding testing to save money or ignore a safety problem.
My vehicle was hit in the rear while exiting a highway on the exit ramp approaching a state hwy. ,travelingat approximately 25-30 mph at the time.the impact deployed the headrests but the seat belts did not restrain the driver or the person in the passenger seat causing head trauma to the driver.as a result of hitting the steering wheel. The driver was taken , by ambulance,to the hospital for medical treatment.that day i contacted my dealer and requested that the vehicle be inspected( seat belts and head rest) at alocal dealer the next day and the head rests be re-set. Hyundai refused to allow the dealer totouch the vehicle and hired a 3rd party engineering firm to inspect the vehicle. The inspection was perform at my local dealer and i was present during the inspection ( measurements only were taken).hyundai contacted me and said that seat belts and head rests were found to be operating according to design. They also directed me to safecar.gov website for my requested crash test date which they did not supply. I checked the website and only found rollover, frontal and side crash data.i would like to have the nhtsa review test data for rear end collisions with both vehicles moving at speeds between 25-30 mphfor 1st vehicle and 40 mph for the 2nd vehicle. I believe that the headrests will deploy but the seat belts will not restrain the driver and the passenger. This is a safety issue that cannot be known to the genesis owners until it is too late. I do not have the resources to have the engineering done to prove my position but nhtsa has the data or can conduct the appropriate tests to save another unknowing owner from possible severe injury.hyundai 's response was that the vehicle met all the federal motor vehicle safety standards.

In september, i was driving to work on the interstate and was exiting.traffic was backed up on the exit ramp and so i was braking at the top of the exit ramp.there was a bump at the transition from asphalt to concrete and i hit that bump while i was braking.the brake pedal immediately went all the way to the floor but i was already slowed down so i did not hit the car in front of me on the ramp.the brake pedal continued to be mushy but i was able to pump the brakes numerous times and the brakes started to work again.on november 4, 2014, i was driving to work on a surface street and had to stop for a pedestrian.while i was braking, my right front tire hit a pothole and then the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.the car slowed but did not stop completely.i turned into my parking garage for work and the brake pedal continued to sink all the way to the floor every time i needed to stop.i inched into a parking space and continued to work.when i was going home, i turned the car on and pumped the brake pedal numerous times but the pedal continued to be mushy.i was able to stop because the brakes would suddenly grab just before the brake pedal was all the way to the floor.i made it home slowly and am getting the brakes looked at today.
The contact owns 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that while at a stop, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The contact mentioned that the failure would recur intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic electronic control unit needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number:13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was repaired under the recall in april of 2013 but the failure recurred. The approximate failure and current mileage was 100,000.
Brake pedal went to floor.very difficult to stop vehicle.this is an intermittent problem and does not happen all the time.typically has occurred once or twice per month.this continues even after having the master cylinder replaced and filling a complaint with the nhtsa.hyundai checked the hecu module under their recall campaign #114 and states the hecu is within specs.however, since this is an intermittent issue they cannot diagnosis the problem until it fails.cannot drive vehicle as we cannot predict next time this failure will occur.
Well i had another incident with my 2009 hyundai genesis? braking system, again.i had to pick up one of our daughters from work saturday night. As i was driving, i stepped on the brake pedal to slow down to enter the parking lot, and the brake pedal hit the floor and the vehicle would not stop.since it was midnight, there was not a lot of traffic, which allowed me the time to step on the brake pedal repeatedly until the brake pedal engaged. I called my dealership sunday morning and they had it towed in, again.now i have to wait and see what they find. Last time they couldn't duplicate the problem and returned the vehicle to us the same way it went in.in addition, they said hyundai usa's policy is to not replace anything unless they can duplicate the problem.we also have the extended warranty and that was of no use. Hyundai usa contacted me because of a comment i left on their facebook account.hyundai usa said they did an inquiry with my dealership after the first incident and insured me the car was safe to drive. Hyundai usa said they would be putting in for their own ?investigation? and that it would take 6-8weeks. In the meantime, i have to drive a vehicle which is clearly not safe.i cannot understand why it is hyundai usa has to do their own investigation.is the dealership not competent?do they know something the dealership does not?how can it possibly take 6-8 to weeks?are there that many mechanical issues and complaints being investigated all at once?shouldn't a braking, or stopping, issue be addressed at the top of the complaint list? i don't feel like someone needs to be injured or killed in order to get someone to repair the car.something needs to be done. After reading multiple comments on-line about the 2009 genesis? braking problems, i would have purchased another model or year.very dissatisfied with hyundai,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Last week i was driving my 2009 genesis without any prior incidents or notification, the brakes went out.the car did not stop and it only stopped when ibumped the brakes and pushed the pedal all the way to the floor.luckily, no car was coming the other direction as the car finally stopped half way in the intersection.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and they advised me the vehicles abs module system failed, not covered under warranty.the cost to replace this part is very expensive.im very afraid to drive my vehicle.apparently, hyundai has known about this issue since july 2012.this is a huge safety issue.
Brought my car in to address a recall on the brakes.10 days after they flushed my brake fluid i noticed i had to push down hard on the brake pedal for the car to stop.i brought the car in and they said the master cylinder needs to be replaced at my cost.i have two young children and i'm extremely concerned about the safety of this vehicle.
While driving the car at 5.20 pm on monday december 2, 2013, my brakes failed. The brake pedal almost went to the floor, were very soft, and only barely worked. I managed to stop the car without hitting any other vehicle. Since i was close to home, i carefully maneuvered the car to my garage where it was safely parked. On tuesday morning (the next day) i had the car towed to shawnee mission hyundai. That afternoon they called me back to say that the problem was complete failure of the brake control module (hecu). Upon investigation, and without any advice or assistance from the people at hyundai, i have discovered that this is a known issue for hyundai, and the subject of a recall.i am writing to inform the authority that the parts failed on my car.
My wife and i have both experienced the same problem. While in motion and have had to come to a stop the brake pedal bottoms out and have had to pump the pedal to bring the car toa stop. Took the car to the dealership; nothing was determined to be the problem. This has occurred several times.
The contact owns 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph and applying the brakes, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic) which stated that the hecu module would be replaced as necessary however, the technician refused to replace the hecu module under the recall and stated that they would only replace the brake fluid. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the dealer was not authorized to replace the hecu module. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
Had to brake hard to avoid debris on hwy exit.following that the brake pedal began to intermittently fade noticeably.within 2 weeks it became a chronic issue.had the brake fluid flushed and replace. No better, had brakes replaced, no better, had the master cylinder and booster replaced, and again no better.i have spent several hundred to resolve this problem.recently read an on-line forum where many genesis owners are reporting similar problems with similar problems narrowing it down.the consensus appears to be that the abs controller is faulty and at a cost of almost $3000 to repair.this is totally unsatisfactory!it isn't just the outrageous cost, but a safety item should not fail as frequently as they appear to be and not on a car that is still relatively "new".
Forty five minutes after picking up my new ( to me ) carat the dealership i had purchased it from i was driving down the road and in an instant i had to step on the brakes hard because the truck in front of me stopped quickly to make a left hand turn. Upon doing so the brake pedal went all the way down and i crashed into the truck. After the crash i restarted the car to move it to the side of the road and it stopped normally like it should.i was left with the feeling that i had no brakes for that instant. Totally un aware of a brake recall on the new car, when i found out later that night about the recall i was upset because i couldn't believe that a well established 30 years in business dealership would sell me a car and not have mentioned or even taken care of it.on the following monday after the accident i called hyundai motor of america to verify that my new to me genesis had never been recalled (repaired yet ) .hyundai said they were sorry and sent me out an investigation packet that i am currently filling out and gathering information for.they also asked me what i was seeking from hyundai.i replied. I wanted my car fixed perfect. The truck i hit repaired.my recall taken care of and would like some sort of statement or document stating that my car was prone to brake failure so i can appeal the sir charge i willreceive from my insurance company for the next five years at 500-600 per year for an at fault accident.my car was towed away to a body shop with considerable damage and is currently unable to be driven.
I was driving at 45 mph approaching an intersection and observed the traffic signal turn red. I applied the brakes and the pedal freely sunk to the floor while i had no braking power. I let up on the brake pedal and pumped the pedal and after several pumps had weak braking. I was able to stop after rolling partly into the intersection. While at a stop, i then pumped the brake pedal and noted i had braking power but the pedal would fall all the way down under continuous pressure. I was able to drive home cautiously noting the same situation with the brake pedal.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While driving at an unknown speed, the brakes failed and the brake pedal sank to the floor. The dealer stated that the inner ball joints and the hydraulic electronic control unit failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Brake pedal almost went to floor before it started to come to a stop.we didn't hit anything because we were in parking lot but if this had happened on the highway, there would have been an accident.this problem started suddenly and has continued.the car is now in a repair shop.there was a recall to replace the brake fluid and this was done in january 2014.the wrong brake fluid was in the car for four years before it was replaced.it seems reasonable that this current brake failure is due to the four years of improper brake fluid although hyundai will take no responsibility for this brake issue.
I experienced brakes issues with my 2009 hyundai genesis on 31 oct 13. Driving home from work, i had to push my brakes all the way to the groundand pump them several times to get the vehicle to stop. I called the hyundai dealership to get an appointment for my car, they were able to see my car on 4 nov 13 (today). I received a call from the hyundai representative (waldorf, md - store #md041) this morning notifying me that my car's brake system - hydraulic electronic control unit is failing. This seems to happening more often to these particular cars. I was toldthe brake fluid was replaced in my car in march 2013. The change of the brake fluid was to prevent this from happen. The brake fluid did not prevent this from happening to my vehicle. I believe hyundai should recall/fix the faulty hydraulic electronic control unit for the hyundai genesis versus the customers paying a $3,000.00 bill which is unnecessary.
On 9/6/2012 my wife was driving at approximately 40 mph, when a pickup truck pulled in front of her, she applied the brakes and the pedal went almost to the floor, but she managed to stop the vehicle. She immediately drove it home, and i tested the vehicle with the same results, the brakes went almost to the floor. Called hyundai and they had the car towed. Picked the car up on 9/12/2012. Hyundai diagnosed the problem as a failed abs unit. Thankfully the car was under warranty, since the cost to repair was $2071. Since i just heard about the recall, i thought it was important to reportthat the problem happened over 1 year ago.
My wife was coming to a stop and the brake pedal immediately went all the way to the floor and luckily for me she instinctively pumped the pedal and it eventually stopped but it scared the living crap out of her! she then proceeded on the freeway and at some point traffic became stop and go and she was nervous driving in it which i don't blame her. Now she is afraid to drive her own car which is her daily commuter??? ]now the car just came out of warranty and i already know that i going to catch[xxx]trying to get this [xxx] abs thing replaced!! it's apparent what is causing the issue based off the same complaint. When in actuality it should be covered by hyundai!!!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that when attempting to engage the brakes, the brake pedal went to the floor without any warning. The contact was included in nhtsa campaign id number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and indicated that the dealer only replaced the factory brake fluid. The contact stated that the dealer did not inspect the hecu module for proper operation. The contact stated that months later, the failure recurred. The recall repair did not remedy the failure and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the hecu needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000. Updated 4/7/15
This is the second time brake lights failed. No indication to driver. Almost caused an accident.same diode package replaced as the first failure reported less than a year ago and 5 k miles. Updated 10/22/13 the consumer statedall brake lights fail including the right, left and center.
Brake pedal went almost to the floor. Thought i lost my brakes.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact applied the brakes and the brake pedal traveled to the floor. There was no resistance. The vehicle was able to stop slowly. The contact placed the vehicle in park and continued to pump the brake pedal to increase the tension and the brake pressure returned to normal. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
On 11/5/13, i received email noticed from nhtsa's odi of campaign id number 13v489. Upon clicking the link i was provided further information including the following: "hyundai will inspect the hecu module for proper operation, and will replace the modules as necessary."after receiving a notice from hyundai for a different recall (13v113), i contacted hyundai, and made an appointment to have recall service for both campaigns done at carousel hyundai, west chester, pa on 12/17/2013.carousel insisted the brake fluid service was based did not include component inspection based on service bulletin 13-01-006-02, and failed to perform an inspection, but noted on my invoice "completed campaign tl6 as required."on 12/30/13, i contacted hyundai by telephone, asked why the dealership did not have the proper information to perform the inspection and was told that the recall information was not available to the dealership until after my vehicle was taken in for service on 12/17/13.i was then informed that if i wanted the brake system components inspected for corrosion damage, i would need to take the vehicle in for an additional recall service.since nhtsa provided me with the proper recall information for this campaign on 11/5/13, it is not clear why hyundai failed to provided this information to their authorized service network until after 12/17/13, more than 30 days later, resulting in improper servicing to complete the nhtsa campaign.many consumers are unlikely to challenge the lack of inspection and may therefore continue driving vehicles that are improperly serviced, and present a potential life safety and collision damage risk.meanwhile, i will be required to wait longer and spend additional time to have the proper servicing performed.carousel did take the time to inform me about other, unrelated, servicing they recommended, and offered to perform for a fee.
While returning home today i was on the freeway when traffic slowed suddenly i braked somewhat firmer than normal and pedal went soft and traveled to the floor. I pumped the brakes quickly but pedal stilled traveled close to the floorboard. I stopped just barely in time, probably just a few inches from the car in front of me.so the brake system failed somewhere in the hydraulics i believe. I am aware there has been many complaints of this car doing this.
While approaching stopped traffic on interstate-70 i applied brakes hard enough to engage the abs system.subsequent braking resulted in the brake pedal having excessive travel to within 1/2 inch of the floor board, making future stopping very unpredictable and resulting in multiple near miss accidents.the brake pedal corrected itself within about 3 days of normal driving.this exact same thing has occurred every time the abs has been engaged, which is at least 3 additional times since the first incident.each time the problem has cleared up in about 3 days, but the brakes are very unpredictable and dangerous during that time.
At the time of the first incident i had come to a stop and noticed the car starting to move forward and the brake pedal slowly moving toward the floor. I thought it was probably low brake fluid, but checked it and it was fine. The problem continued and seemed to slowly get worse. I have since taken it in for service and repair of the brake related recall items. This did not resolve the problem and i was told i needed the abs control module replaced at a cost of approximately $2400. After realizing that the nhtsa is currently investigating this faulty part, i wanted to make sure that my issues with this part were added to the list of complaints.
I was heading to work and when i pressed the brake pedal it hit the floor and the car didn't stopped so i am intermediately pressed the park pedal and my car started spin on the street.
Without any prior incidents or probable causes, the brakes suddenly went "soft", as in the pedal went to the floor and the brakes were practically ineffective.this has happened intermittently since, and from research done online, this appears to be a problem with the abs brake module, yet hyundai dealers that i have approached about the problem are unaware that this is fairly common, and are reluctant to replace this rather expensive component without toying around with other perceived "fixes", such as replacing the brake fluid and/or the master cylinder.
Brake pedal suddenly requires more travel to engage brakes. It requires a lot of force to get the pedal to engage. Had brakes checked by independent mechanic and all signs point to hecu. Hyundai will repair newer models of the genesis but for my year they are not.it appears to be a common issue with other owners of the genesis, as well.
Brake pedal went to the floor when approaching an intersection.vehicle was unable to stop immediately.loss of braking.
I was driving at about 35 mph when i had to slow down due to vehicle slowing in from of me. I placed my foot on the brake pedal. The brake pedal went to the floor, so i began pumping to see if the brakes would respond.the brake pedal responded with an increase resistance and i was able to slow down.shortly after the brakes responded normally.a few days later my wife had a similar problem with the brake pedal when pressure was applied.
I approached a stop sign and prepared to stop. The brake pedal felt normal at first, but suddenly the pedal went nearly to the floor. The abrupt change in the pedal, position resulted in my proceeding half way through the intersection before stopping. Fortunately there was no cross traffic at the time.my dealer diagnosed the problem as a failure of the abs module, a $2500 repair.hyundai issued a recall on my vehicle to replace the brake fluid which was felt to be corrosive and could result in failure of the abs module. I had this performed in december of last year.hyundai's warranty covers this part for 60,000 miles or 5 years. My car is no longer covered by the warranty since it is over 5 years old, and in spite of the low mileage, hyundai so far has denied any compensation.obviously the intended fix, changing the brake fluid, did not work, and caused the module failure.since the company was aware that this could happen, it seems the proper thing to do would be to extend the warranty on this part for older vehicles.
I seriously hope people don't have to die before this car is recalled for brake failure problems. I am having an issue with my 2009 genesis where all of the sudden the brake pedal becomes very soft and goes all the way to the floor. I initially thought this was a one-time fluke.well now the brake pedal has occasionally goes all the way to the floor without any pressure being applied to brake system.the best way i can describe the problem is the brakes are good and then they are bad on the next application. No warning lights, no gradual deterioration, just instant no brakes. Pumping seems to improve the brakes slightly but they rapidly faded when held.no brake fluid leak is observed and brake fluid level is full.from what i am reading this is not a sporadic problem if you look at how many of us this is happening to!!! i pray this hyundai problem does not end up in a serious accident and someone being killed.this car is completely unpredictable and unreliable. The brakes work fine until they decide not to work. This is some scary stuff.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the pedal sank to the floor and failed to respond. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,600.
On 5/11/15 the brakes on my 2010 hyundai genesis failed and the car would not stop as the brake pedal sank to the floor.on 5/12/15 i brought my car into global auto mall and drove very slowly to the dealer, pumping the brakes at every stop along the way to get the car to stop. Global auto mall diagnosed the problem and replaced the master brake cylinder assembly under warranty. My car had 45,381 miles on it at the time. On 8/29/15 the brakes on my 2010 hyundai genesis failed again and the car would not stop as the brake pedal sank to the floor. On 8/31/15 i brought my car into global auto mall driving very slowly to the dealer, pumping the brakes at every stop along the way to get the car to stop. My car had 49,179 miles on it at the time. Global auto mall has stated that after running diagnostics on the car they did not find any problems and now the brakes are working fine.a recall on the braking fluid that caused corrosion on the abs module was performed on my car already, but there is no way for the technician to actually check for corrosion inside the abs assembly. I do not feel that the car is safe to drive and the brakes are going to fail again, as nothing was repaired on my vehicle.
Spongy brake, pedal sink to the floor.
The brake pedal, when applied, traveled well beyond the normal point of stopping, almost to the floor.braking effectiveness and results were greatly diminished and the pedal was extremely "spongy"/not firm as normal. In an emergency stopping situation, the car simply could not have stopped in time to avoid collision.this was not an intermittent occurrence.once the symptom manifested itself, it has done do consistently.the car has been delivered to the humble tx hyundai dealership which has identified the hecu component as the problem, and not the master cylinder.unfortunately the service writer has not recognized the recall action required for this component.
While applying the brakes, the brake pedal would go to the floor and fail to stop the vehicle. I had to repeatedly pump the brakes to get the car to stop. Pressing the brake without pumping would cause the brake pedal to go to the floor.
I was driving around 45 mph when the car in front of me braked suddenly to avoid an animal in the street.my brakes did not initially work at all and i had them to the floor.after about 3 seconds they began to brake.now my pedal can be pushed to the floor without braking and i have to pump them to get them to work. It was the first time i have experienced that problem, but since the incident they will not brake but very slowly.
Approaching a red light, pressed the brakes, peddle went soft (no pressure).the car did not stop immediately, only slowed down.luckily, i allowed much space in front of me to slow the vehicle to a stop.immediately took the car to a dealership, they state they can not duplicate.this vehicle has a problem with the abs hydraulic module from what i have read from other owners who have had this problem fixed under warranty.i am one of the unlucky many whose local dealership will not acknowledge that this repair is necessary.i pray that this problem does not cause a loss of life, however am concerned it might.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and went nearly to the floorboard without warning. The contact mentioned that the vehicle became hard to stop. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electro-hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 102,713 and the current mileage was 107,000.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact was informed by eyewitnesses that the brake lamps on the vehicle failed to illuminate. The vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v713000 (exterior lighting) and 13v113000 (service brakes), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified. The dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing, but the location was over an hour and a half away. The failure mileage was approximately 165,000.
On a total of four occasions now i have had total brake failure--brake pedal to the floor when moving. The vehicle went to the dealership after the first incident. Multiple parts were replaced. The problem occurred a second time thereafter. I captured it on video, as the problem was not duplicating at the dealership. The dealership determined the brake master cylinder was faulty and replaced it. Almost eight months to the day later (today), the same problem occurred. It is intermittent and random. The brake pedal literally pushes to the floor, almost as if no fluid is in the lines. There are no recalls, tsbs, etc. I have posted this in online forums and sought answers. So far no luck. It is only a matter of time before a crash and possibly injury occur. I am very close to parting ways with the car. Brakes are like jet engines; they really need to work all the time. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
My wife was coming back home from dropping off the kids at school, when traffic was coming to a stop in front of her.when she tried to apply the brakes, the brake pedal went to the floor with almost no resistance.fortunately, she was able to stop before she hit the other stopped cars.the dealer has informed me that the abs module has failed on the car.from looking at this site, i am not the first driver with this problem.seems to me that hyundai got a bad batch of abs modules.i would appreciate if nthsb could correlate the vin numbers of those reporting this problem to see if there is a pattern of close vins.hyundai should make this right as this is a major safety issue.there was no warning or indication of anything wrong with the brakes until they just suddenly failed to operate.the dealer has confirmed to me that there was absolutely no preventative maintenance or service that i could have or should have done to prevent this from happening.looking through the entries of similar problems at nhtsa and reading through the entries at http://www.genesisowners.com, i am surprised that no one has died from this issue yet.
Brakes went to the floor, upon trying to stop for a traffic light..... Pumped brakes over and over, still no resistance in the brake pedal. Began to prepare to downshift the a/t and start evasive maneuvers so i didn't jeopardize other near by drivers (and myself). As i prepared myself for an accident, the brake pedal become "spongy" and after pumping it a couple more times.... It finally began to work. I was beside myself! as a retired md state trooper, i knew how to stop the vehicle; however i couldn't believe the car i loved was failing me!at the next intersection, i pulled over, allowed the car to cool down and check fluid levels (everything was within normal limits) and there were no visible leaks under the vehicle or on the ground.on 10-18-2013....my vehicle was taken to hyundai and hyundai replaced my brake fluid, even though it wasn't necessary i had the front brake pads replaced, andthe 60k mile service completed. At this time, there was no recall on this hyundai brake issue.it is now june 2014 (mileage is now 74k) and my brake pedal is becoming spongy again and my stopping distance is becoming longer........i'm afraid my brakes are going to fail me again!!! i hope that doesn't happen with the children on board! i have maintained this vehicle meticulously and serviced it at every hyundai required interval. This vehicle has never been involved in an accident and has been garage kept. I'm very disappointed that this brake issue has seriously depreciated the value of my 2009 hyundai genesis!
All brake lights failedno indication to operator
I was driving out of my community to an appointment i had with hyundai dealership to check brakes when i missed right turn.i stopped the car put it in reverse using camera as my visual.i noticed i was getting closer to curb and sidewalk so i turned my body to my right and saw there was a big tree close to sidewalk.i was turning back to normal driving position and applying the brakes at same time when the pedal went completely to the floor, the steering moved to the right, never stopping the car. I heard a loud crashing noise and my body being severely jerked back and forth. I noticed the auto collapsing head rest popped up.i removed my seat belt put the car into park and went to see the damage.sure enough i had hit the tree which showed no sign of damage but the rear bumper on the passenger side was severely damaged, quarter panel was blown out and top of the trunk middle right was actually ripped and torn.i was determined to see why the brakes failed so i drove the car without any brakes and miraculously made it to dealership.one of service girls saw my damaged car and asked what happened.i told her brakes failed. She told me not to worry because they will fix car without any charge because thats how hyundai treats their customers. I asked if there were recalls on the car, she said no.they told me my car will be ready next day.i wentnext morning and asked for the report on car which said brake fluid was changed twice and brakes failed twice.the service tech noticed auto anti locking brake module failed.he put in a new one, replaced braking fluid for third time, test drove the car and said brakes ok.when driving car brakes felt better.at home i started to feel light headed and few days latter back and neck pains started to get worse. Pain was so bad i went to urgent care center, gave me an injection and predizone for inflammation and pain.i'm under pain doctors care.
My wife and i were traveling to work on i10 west between quincy & tallahassee florida when she attempted to slow down and get off the exit when she press the brake pedal and the car would not. I yelled to her to pump the brake and the car suddenly begin to slow down. We took the car to the dealership and they eventually told us after two day that it was the abs modulator and the part & service is $2400.00. Refuse to pay. Took the car in for a brake fluid recall and replacement of brake switch just a month ago.
When trying to use the brakes in my vehicle, i noticed that i had to push them all the way to the floor for them to engage. It seems that every so often, this is an issue.
In october while the car was at the dealer for service they asked me wait a few more minutes and explained they were replacing the brake fluid.within a month of that service i started noticing a soft peddle which turned to a to the floor pedal on occasions.finally in late dec 13 it got very bad and the brakes were unresponsive and took a great deal of pressure to activate from time to time.i brought the car to the dealer today under a new recall i just received regarding brake fluid replacement.they replaced the fluid and bled the system, they said they were not satisfied with the result and continued to look for another issue.they found the mast cylinder was leaking.the tech took me on the side and said the fluid that was in there attracted metal shavings that probably caused the master cylinder seal to fail.they would not let me drive the car home and gave me a loaner.
While driving on h street ne in washington dc during the day, i applied the brakes from a speed of approximately 25 mph. As i passed over some gravelly surface, the anti-lock mechanisms activated. After the initial rapid pulsation associated with antilock braking, however, the brake pedal went soft and traveled nearly the full distance to the floor before re-engaging. The brakes remained in this condition for several minutes, but they returned to normal after about 10 minutes and several applications.the incident occurred again on a gravel road in late july 2012. This time the brakes never returned to normal. Instead, to apply the brakes, i would have to push the pedal nearly all the way to the floor. The local hyundai dealership took my car in for service, and after a few weeks and different attempted solutions, fixed the problem. The problem has not recurred since july 2012.
This is the second time in a week where the brakes have just failed.the brake pedal will go all the way to the floor.after pumping the pedal pressure is restored.concerned about safety going forward.
This is the second time the brake light diode has gone out in 29000 miles. There is no warning light or indicator that the brake lights are out. Both times it was caught during an oil change.
Brake malfunction; repairs done at dealership.
In july 2014, i visited my local hyundai dealership to take care of a recall notice that i had received and they promptly took care of two recalls, one of which wascampaign 114 - replacing brake fluid and inspecting the hydraulic ecu (hecu).the recall has to do with the old fluid corrodingportions of the hecu and causing brake failure.well to that point, i had not had any brake failures or problems, but it was within a week of the inspection i applied the brakes very hard to stop and avoid hitting a car on the highway, the brakes worked fine, but upon hitting the brakes asecond time, the pedal went all the way to floor before any braking was applied to the wheels.it stayed that way for the remainder of my trip (some 10-15 more miles)i attempted to pump the brakes and even stopped at a local gas station and turned the car off and on again to see if it remedied the problem, it did not.when i returned home, i began to look into what would cause this, and that is when found out that campaign 114 was in play to actually attempt to prevent this type of disaster. The next day i drove a different vehicle to work and when i returned home (still the month of july 2014) i tried the brakes on the hyundai again and they seemed to work fine.i cautiously drove the car and didn't have another failure until today, when i was on the highway and applied the brakes harder than usual, the very next braking event my pedal again went all the way to the floor.i assume that whenever a hard braking event occursthese symptoms return.i made it to work and spent 4-5 hours there and left early to the dealertold them the story and said they are working fine right now since the car was off and on again, and while they are still investigating this, they told me already that the hecu is checking out ok.this is dangerous and needs to be recalled.
This complaint is in junction with the brake fluid recall for hyundai genesis. Had to step on my break all the way to the floor in order to stop vehicle. Almost crashed into car ahead of me. Took vehicle immediately to dealership.notified by dealer that the hydraulic electric control unit needs replacement. Did research and realized most likely due to the corrosive brake fluid that is a known recall. Dealership is being difficult in replacing hecu even though it is clearly related to the corrosive brake fluid recall. This is a serious safety hazard as if i was driving faster or braked later it could have been a multi vehicle accident.
Driving in traffic on interstate and traffic came to a sudden stop in front of me.i applied brakes and they went to floor and was slow to activate.the car did stop but brake pedal goes to floor nearly before stopping.happened once before. The first time i stopped and checked brake fluid and they seemed to correct, not this time.i have taken car to two dealers for repair and they both said brake fluid change recall, nothing further. They both let me leave with brakes still going to floor.i am a 33 year state police investigator and saw the news of recall online.i had to take evasive action to avoid crash both times.
The brake pedal goes to the floor when stopping the car. Once stopped you have tp pump the brakes to keep the car from moving forward.the hyundai dealer indicated that this was an abs failure and he has replaced many units already.. My car is out of warranty.i went on to the hyundai owners forum for the genesis and this has happened alot to these cars.hyundai has replaced these abs units when the car was out of warranty.this is a safety issue and a failure to warn owners of a continuing problem.
I missed my right hand turn that i usually make to exit my community, so i stopped and put the vehicle in reverse using the backup camera as a guide. I noticed that i was getting too close to the sidewalk curbing and i noticed a large tree not to far from the curbing, so i turned my body around to my right side to get a visual look. While i was doing this i put my foot on the brake pedal, turned my body back to a normal driving position and the brake pedal went right to the floor never stopping the vehicle.the steering wheel suddenly moved to the right and then i heard a large sound ( the rear end of the vehicle crashing into the tree that i saw.) all of this that happened took about seven to ten seconds!! i released my seat belt and got of the car to see the damage. The rear end of the bumper on the passenger side was severely damaged, the quarter panel on the same side was blown out and the top of the trunk toward the right side was actually ripped and dented. Ironically i had an appointed with the dealership to check the brakes the same day of the accident. I was determined to find out why the brakes failed. So i drove the vehicle knowing i had no brakes and miraculously made it to the dealership. The service personal saw how badly the vehicle was damaged and i explained to them what had happened.one of the girls in service department, i don't remember her name, completed the paper work and i was told i had to leave the vehicle.she also told me that there would no charge for any repairs because thats how hyundai treats their customers thats' when old light bulb went off and i asked her if there were any recalls on vehicle and she said no. The next day i saw the repair form andthatbrake fluid was replaced twice and failed twice.he noticed that the auto antilock braking system module failed. He replaced that brakes o.k. I received back injury, under doctors care.
My local dealer, kuhio motors, has failed to correct a brake problem that has been on-going for over two months. The dashboard warning lights for the anti-lock brakes (abs) and electronic stability control (esc) have been burning continuously for over two months. Kuhio motors, my hyundai dealer, has failed to correct the problem after three visits for service. I understand that several genesis drivers have experienced brake failure due to a defective braking control module.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact was driving 45 mph when the brakes were applied to stop the vehicle. The brakes failed and the parking brake was used. The vehicle was merged off the roadway and was towed to an independent mechanic. The master cylinder and calipers were replaced, but the issue was not corrected. The vehicle was not further repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the incident. The approximate failure mileage was 83000.
Traveling on freeway when a vehicle suddenly changed lanes in front of me causing me to brake suddenly and hard.the brake pedal went down, the vehicle slowed, and then the brake pedal started to go down further but the car didn't stop.i had to pump the brake pedal several times in order to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me.afterwards the brake pedal was very "soft" and it didn't initiate any slowing of the car unless i pumped the brake pedal several times.
Had to apply brakes suddenly, car stopped as normal/expected.after this instance, the brake pedal has been exceptionally soft, often traveling all the way to the floor prior to any stopping power. The fluid level is normal, brake pads are good.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While driving and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The brakes had to be pumped in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and it was determined that the brakes were fine. The contact stated that the brake failure recurred the very next day. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder failed and the abs hydraulic unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 39,305.
Brakes were applied and there was excessive pedal travel to the floor and severely reduced brake effectiveness.this has happened multiple times since the initial occurrence.
I was traveling approximately 25 mph in a residential neighborhood, preparing to come to a stop at an intersection when i depressed the brake pedal and it went all the way to the floor without stopping the car.i pumped the brakes and it then engaged and stopped the car.i carefully and slowly drove the car to the dealership the following morning.after inspecting the car, the dealership told me that the hecu and abs module would need to be replaced and the brake fluid flushed and replaced. They said this would cost about $3,000 and they contacted my extended warranty insurance carrier to attempt to get the cost covered by insurance.a day later the dealership told me that the insurance company had sent an inspector out to test drive the car and would send another inspector tomorrow to inspect the hecu and abs module and they're still attempting to work with them to get the cost covered.i took the car in for the safety recall on 10/24/13 and the brake fluid was replaced, and i also had new brakes installed on 3/8/14, yet i still had the brakes fail a month later.hyundai should be doing the repairs without question and instead they're trying to get the extended warranty insurance carrier to cover it and i'm having to wait it out while they bicker about costs.
On 9/16/15 the brakes on my 2009 hyundai genesis failed and the car would not stop as the brake pedal sank to the floor. I finally got the car to stop with excessive pumping of the brakes. On 9/16/15 i brought my car into jim ellis hyundai to fix the problem. The dealer inspected the car and couldn't replicate the issue i had experienced earlier in the day. The dealership ran diagnostics on the car and did not find any problems and now the brakes seem to be working fine. My car has 115,561 miles.this is the second visit to the dealership for this problem. On 04/30/15, i brought in the car for two recalls, one that included a brake fluid flush. A month later, i had a similar incident while driving on the highway that caused me to lose brake pressure.after a few days the problem subsided.i am seriously concerned about the safety of this automobile, especially after reading so many similar incidents already filed with the government.
I was traveling on the on ramp of interstate i20 @ 45 mph, applied the brakes and nothing happened except that the pedal went right to the floor, 7 miles later on the exit ramp at about 70 mph exactly the same thing happened again, took the car to the dealer that evening after work. They told me the master brake cylinder had failed and because my mileage was 2,930 over the 60k limit it would not be a warranty repair.i said "are you kidding me?, you must call hna this is a serious problem". They must have because they repaired it "one time good will for customer satisfaction". My confidence in this brand has gone away, this should be a recall.
When i try stopping the brake pedal pushes to the bottom but doesn't stop the car.the brakes fail. I brought it into hyundai service and they said they can't duplicate the problem. It happens around 50% of the time while driving.
When attempting to stop the vehicle the brakes went low to the floor. Took to dealership said that the abs system needed to be replaced. This is a known issue with the 2009 genesis but since they had checked it in 2014 it would not be an issue for us. This was not true and others may have the problem if the abs system is not replaced.
My wife was driving our 2009 hyundai genesis eastbound on the florida turnpike at approximately 75 mph.a vehicle put on their brakes ahead of the car and my wife went to apply her brakes and the pedal went nearly to the floor causing her to nearly lose control of the vehicle before braking action finally activated.i immediately took the vehicle to our local hyundai dealership and was presented with a $2375 repair bill for a failed abs control module.i have since learned that this is a recurring failure with the genesis model and a recall is currently in effect for these vehicles on the brake system.this is a critical safety issue that must be addressed immediately!
When the brakes are applied the car starts to slow down but does not stop until the brakes go almost to the floor. I am just waiting for the time when it does not stop at all.with all the complaints i am seeing about these brake problems it appears a recall should be forthcoming from hyundai.
The brakes became spongy, increased travel, and lost stopping power. I had to press the pedal all the way to the floor to avoid an accident. I have had the brake fluid replaced, but suspect that this is due to corrosion that already occurred from the faulty brake fluid and abs module. I would appreciate any assistance in convincing hyundai of this.
On september 19, 2015, when approaching a red light, the brake pedal went all the way to the floorboard and the car would not stop. Repeated pumping of the pedal finally brought the car to a stop. Within an hour a second event occurred on the freeway when approaching another car from the rear. The brake pedal had no resistance and went all the way to the floorboard. It has not occurred again. Two days later i took the car (carefully) into the dealer. They have, as yet, been unable to replicate the problem (as hyundai requires for warranty consideration). However, i will not drive this car or let my wife use it until this is diagnosed and repaired. It is extremely unsafe. This type of brake failure has been noted repeatedly in the 2009 hyundai genesis. I am stuck with an unusable car and a manufacturer who will not recognize the severity of this issue. The dealer does not want to repeatedly subject their staff to the risk of an accident but hyundai requires the problem be validated by another occurrence when driven by dealer staff.
Driving in a 45 mph road, there was a traffic light that turned red.my speed before starting to brake was approximately 40 mph.when i pressed the brake pedal, it went almost to the floor and the car was not stopping.immediately i pumped the brake pedal several times and fortunately the brakes slowed down the car until it came to a stop almost at the middle of the intersection.it was a blessing that there was no other car in front of me or crossing the intersection at the time.drove home very slowly and towed the vehicle to the service center.abs module was replaced at a cost of over $2400.00.a few months before the car had the brake fluid replaced due to a vehicle recall from hyundai.service performed by the same service center that replaced the faulty abs module.
Problem: upon applying brakes, reduced brake pressure & longer pedal travel, feeling like master cylinder problem- although brakes continued to work with greater effort. Nov. 2013 received hyundai safety recall notice 13v-113: replace stop lamp switch and flush/refill brake fluid. Dealer completed service noc 30, 2013. Dealer said that master cylinder needed replacement. Service performed dec. 5, 2013. Dealer then said hydraulic electronic control unit needed replacement.(parts ordered.) i feel that my brake problems were caused by the manufacturer installing inadequate/faulty brake fluid.the repairs need to be done at the manufacturer's expense.
While driving at low speed, and applying brakes, my break pedal went all the way to floor. No lights or warnings were displayed. This condition continued until home. The next morning brakes worked normally and have for two weeks now.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.
After sudden deceleration, brake pedal went soft.brakes continued to operate but less predictably.initial repair of brake booster worked for a week or so, then failed.replacement of abs module seems to have fixed the problem. All work done under warranty.
2009 hyundai genesis, in motion street and highway. Total brake failure.no warning, no dashboard light warning.columbia hyundai advised that the brake failure is due to failure of the abs control box.in other words total, un-announced failure of anti skid control box caused a complete brake system failure in this car.
Brake pedal went all the way to the floor and braking effectiveness was severely reduced (compared to normal). This was the first stop after a "panic stop". The problem could not be reproduced at will. Approximately two weeks later, the same failure was experienced (again at the time of the first stop after a panic stop, but this time traveling at about 30 m.p.h.). Again, the problem cannot be reproduced at will as it is intermittent.
I own a 2009 hyundai genesis 4 door sedan, 6 cylinder. On 3 occasions this past summer, in rapid succession, my brakes failed, and in 1 instance i narrowly avoided an accident on the highway. The brake pedal inexplicably goes all the way to the floor before the car finally comes to a slow stop. Very dangerous. Brought it to the dealer, who kept it for 2 days. They said they replaced the brake fluid(they said it was a recall item and they never contacted me about it, they admitted) and they charged me for replacing my front brakes. Have had the car a month now, and its happened twice more-this is an accident waiting to happen for me or anyone else with a hyundai genesis.
Last week i was driving my car thank god just around town and not on the highway like i am usually or with my children in the car, on a very sunny day with no wet roads in south florida as i approached a red light with cars stopped at the light in both lanes, i pressed down on the brakes and to my surprise the brake pedal hit the floor. I was going about 30 mph i was in panic mode as i started pumping the brakes and nothing. I started slowing down only because i was so far behind the other cars when i had taken my foot off the gas pedal. Well i stopped unfortunately only because the car in front of me stopped me. There was not much damage to my car and the car was drivable. I had it towed because i was afraid to drive it to the dealership, where they could check it out and fix the problem. That was 4:30 pm on friday the service agent said they would not be able to check it till the am. On saturday at 8:55 am the dealerships got back to me and guess what they couldn't duplicate the problem, so the service agent told me he had drained the brakes and bled the lines and changed the brake fluid to dot 4 and the car was ready to pick up. I told him he was going to have to speak to my husband because i felt he was being very condescending and short with me. My husband spoke with him and he agreed he wouldn't want his wife driving the car either, so his recommendation was to leave the car and have the manager drive the car for the remainder of the weekend to see if he could duplicate the problem. Well on monday afternoon we got a call and were told to come pick the car up as they could not duplicate the problem and couldn't replace any part without duplicating the malfunction. We now have the car back in our possession. We truly are dissatisfied with how coconut creek hyundai has handled our situation and worse yet have a car we feel is unsafe to be driving.
On december 28th i was driving in my '09 v6 genesis on the interstate for about 20 minutes and i took a downhill exit with a stop sign at the bottom of the hill. Thank the universe that the road was empty because as i applied the brakes to slow down they went to the floor and the car barely slowed down at all. As i got closer and closer to the stop sign i had to pump the brakes about 4 more times with them going all the way to the floor each time. The car finally slowed down to about 10 miles an hour. As nobody was at the sign at the bottom of the hill i was able to coast slowly through the stop sign and turn left to use the emergency brake to come to a complete stop. I then turned the car off and back on to try the brakes again. They went to the floor about 4 more times and then the pressure finally returned. This is some scary stuff since i was on the highway for about 20 minutes and i know for a fact that i would have crashed into someone had i been driving during rush hour traffic and there been a line to get off the interstate. I got the car home safely that afternoon and parked it to leave the country for vacation.i returned on the night of new years day and dropped the car off on the morning on january 2nd.the dealer said they would look into the problem. I got a call from them yesterday saying they cannot repeat the problem (of course) but also mentioned that they had to replace the master brake cylinder on a genesis just last week for the exact same problem.ironically enough i was speaking with my coworker about this (he has a genesis) and he said his dad has a genesis and just had the exact same problem 2 weeks ago, to which the dealer replaced some abs parts on his car.please look at this forum to see others who are experiencing problems with their brakes (http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=9926).
4.6ltraveling at 50mph and applied brake to come to a stop at a traffic light. Brake went all the way to the floor. My car was packed with children and i went into panic mode as i had to pump my brakes to bring the car to a stop. I had brakes one moment and no brakes the next moment. After several hours, the issue has not gone away and i'm scared to even drive to dealer. After research online, it is a shame to see the ongoing issues with this problem alone with accidents involved. There should be repercussions to hyundai. This is one of many costly issues with this car. It's a money pit for less than three years!! this issue is by far the scariest of them all.
Sudden loss of brake pressure. Brake pedal became very mushy, and had to be pressed all the way down to brake the car. After brake was pumped a couple of times, issue went away. Appears to be caused by a faulty abs hydraulic module.after the incident, did some research on the genesis owners forums, and seems like the same issue has affected a number of other vehicles as well. The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle failed to decelerate upon engaging the brakes. The brake pedal also abnormally traveled to the floorboard as the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle was able resume in operation however, the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer twice where the technician was unable to duplicate the problem, however the front brakes and brake fluid was replaced. There was a voluntary recall issued by the manufacturer pertaining to the replacement of the braking fluid. The owner was responsible for the expense of the brakes as the brake fluid was replaced under the recall. The failure persisted after the repair was performed. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While attempting to stop for a traffic light, the vehicle accelerated independently. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the rear end of another vehicle. No injuries were reported and a police report was filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician replenished the brake fluid and was unable to diagnose the failure. The failure recurred on three different occasions, all involving a crash without injuries. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact statedwhile driving 40 mph, he attempted to engaged the brakes but the pedal extended to the floor and failed to stop the vehicle. In order to stop the vehicle the contact was forced to shift out of gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the front tire brake pads and master brake cylinder were replaced but failed to remedy the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available.the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 85,000.
My hyundai dealer called me today may 15, 2019 and said that the estimate to repair my genesis brakes would cost $2770.00 at a minimum, maybe more if the whole system had to be replaced. In other words; (please write a blank check to us.) this is a hyundai problem as a manufacturer. They put dot 3 fluid in the system at birth of the car and it caused corrosion interacting with the zinc plating internally. Proper testing wasn't done prior to assembly signoff. The recall changed the fluid to dot 4 and in my case the fluid was not property drained and changed and my pictures of the fluid prove the separation and crud in the brake system. Many genesis have had this problem and hyundai should be forced to make this repair on the affected cars. What is a bigger safety concern then having your brakes go out when applied. My car won't stop as the brake pedal goes to the floor all the way down.the abs & esc lights come on when this happened. The brake fluid was changed in 2014 and again in 2019. A new master cylinder, front brake lines, brake light switch and diode was installed in march 2019. Took it to dealer in april 2019 and they all was ok except esc light was on. Drove it home and less then 60 miles the brakes petal again went to the floor. Taking it back to dealer in lima, oh on may 15, 2019. I put in a complaint to consumer [email protected], but the girl who returned the call, read from a script and said sorry, your car is out of warranty. Please reference your case number 15737333. This car is unfit to drive and from other postings, it will cost $2500 to repair. The cars value is between $3600/5600 dollars.this is an on going safety problem that hyundai has put off making a proper repair, relying on time and miles to get out of a safety recall. I'm uploading photos of brake fluid taken from my car in march and april 2019.
While driving with family on day before father-in-laws funeral my brake pedal went to floor.after restarting several times same thing experienced.no fault codes seenread many online forum posts with same problems.braking power reduced by approx 70%. Scary to drive car now.this should be recalled.all posts point to abs unit failure.dealer called for and did tsb change to high temp brake fluid at last service.related to attempt and prevent this??could very well be.please help.
My wife normally drives the car ,but over this past weekend i drover her vehicle. I noticed that everytime i came to a stop and kept my foot on the brake pedal ,it would slowly go to the floor. After experiencing again.on sunday 10/20/2013, i pulled off the road and checked the brake fluid in the master cylinder, it was full.having worked in manufacturing , more specifically in the manufacturing of abs automatic braking systems, there are software issues that surface periodically. Unfortunately, they are not handled as quickly, by the car manufacturer ( they design the software), as one would hope.
I had to take my car into service due to two recalls that had been posted. One for the brake switch and the second for the brake fluid. In addition to that, my wife had also mentioned to me that the brakes felt "sponge-y". Once i got to the local dealership and notified the service advisor what issues i had, he told me that my car needs a new abs module. I did some online research and discovered that there have already been similar complaints filed for this problem. I would like to add myself to that list of consumers who have this vehicle with this problem. I look forward to having this issue being resolved.
2009 hyundai genesis with 4.6 liter v8 engine experienced brake failure at approximately 9:00 am while traveling at approximately 40 mph. The brake pedal went soft and went to floor with greatly reduced braking affect. No warning lights appeared on the instrument panel indicating a brake failure or any other problem with the vehicle. The vehicle was brought to the local hyundai dealership who indicated that a service notification had been issued concerning the brake fluid (campaign #tl6 20c022ro) and the fluid would be replaced. After the fluid was replaced the brakes were still inoperative. The dealership service department next said the brake abs module had failed (hecu). The costly abs module was replaced and the brake operation returned to normal.
Problem: upon stepping on brakes, reduced brake pressure, longer pedal travel- feeling like possible master cylinder failure, but brakes continued to work. Nov. 15, 2013 received hyundai safety recall notice 13v-113: replace stop lamp switch and flush/refill break fluid. Dealer completed service nov 30. Dealer said master cylinder needed to be replaced. Service performed dec. 5. Dealer then said hydraulic electronic control unit needed replacement. I feel the brake problems are due to the faulty break fluid that was installed by the manufacturer and repairs need to be done at the manufactures expense.
On 8/13/13 at approx 930am, traffic was approaching a traffic light when it turned yellow. Driver of vehicle infront of me suddenly stopped and as i applied the brake to stop as well, my brake pedal was depressed to the floor but had no braking power. I was not able to stop so unfortunately i struck the vehicle infront of me. All repairs were finished on 8/29/13. As i backed into my driveway i noticed that my brake lights were not working. I contacted the auto body shop and they looked at it the next day. They advised me that the brake lights were not in direct relation to their services rendered but that i should take it to a local dealership to have it checked out. They also advised me that my brake pedal seemed soft and should also be looked at.i made an appointment with the dealer and they advised me that there was a recall on the brake fluid and stop light switch.the brake lights started working again prior to my appointment so i ended up canceling it.in early nov i noticed my brake lights again were not working. I brought the vehicle in and they fixed the brake fluid and stop light switch saying they were recalled. They also advised me that my brake pedal went to the floor and should have it looked at but would have to pay for diagnosis and/or repairs. When i got home again, i backed into the driveway and noticed my brake lights were not working even though i just left the dealership where they fixed it.recalls are stating that the previous brake fluid may corrode the brake module reducing brake effectiveness possibly ending in a crash and that the stop lights have malfunctioned on other cars.i wanted to make you aware of my issue before i contacted hyundai directly and possibly a lawyer. Thank you
My hyundai dealer called me today may 15, 2019 and said that the estimate to repair my genesis brakes would cost $2770.00 at a minimum, maybe more if the whole system had to be replaced.
Problem: upon applying brakes, reduced brake pressure & longer pedal travel, feeling like master cylinder problem- although brakes continued to work with greater effort. Nov. 2013 received hyundai safety recall notice 13v-113: replace stop lamp switch and flush/refill brake fluid. Dealer completed service noc 30, 2013. Dealer said that master cylinder needed replacement. Service performed dec. 5, 2013. Dealer then said hydraulic electronic control unit needed replacement.(parts ordered.) i feel that my brake problems were caused by the manufacturer installing inadequate/faulty brake fluid.the repairs need to be done at the manufacturer's expense.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that the brake pedal failed to respond and extended to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the master brake cylinder, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs control module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000. Ma 09/22
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). After receiving the repair, the brakes began to malfunction. The contact had to pump the brake pedal several times before the vehicle would come to a stop. Also, the brake lights failed to illuminate when the brakes were applied. Eventually, the brake master cylinder and brake booster were replaced at a cost of $1600. Updated 02/14/17
Was traveling on a road at the posted 45 mph when i came to s stop sign. When i tried to slow down prior to reaching the sign, the car did not slow down at all and the brakes were soft and went down all the way to the floor. Needles to say, i was not able to stop at the stop sign but by virtue of pumping the brakes i stopped on the other side of the street. Had this transpired during a busy time, i would have t boned a cat that had a right of way and at 45 mph, i am sure there could have been lives lost if the other car had passengers. Research shows that this is a common problem with hyundai that is being disregarded. The car has 62,900 miles and the dealer simply says, sorry, you are one month and 3000 miles over the warranty. The problem according to the dealer is a fluid leaking in the abs control unit and they want about $2500 to replace it .curiously, the estimate invoice also showed that they had flushed the brake lines and replace it with a new dot 4 brake fluid and, this was done under a warranty which has expired. Could the original fluidhave created some of the problems? either way, the breaks fail without any warning whatsoever and i certainly hope that someone looks into this before a disastrous accident with casualties takes place.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brakes failed causing the brake pedal to extend to the floorboard causing a longer stopping distance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was previously serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic) but the failure persisted. The failure mileage was 101,000.....updated 12/30/15 updated 01/27/16.
Without warning, the brake pedal traveled almost to the floor of the car before stopping the vehicle.the first occasion happened on august 7, 2013, but the problem corrected itself and the brakes seemed fine until october 20, 2013, when my husband and i were vacationing in the mountains of north carolina, approximately 5 hours from our home.again, without any warning, the brake pedal went almost to the floor before stopping the vehicle.we made it home safely, but the brake failure was a major safety concern.after seeing information online about a recall of the genesis related to the brakes, we took the vehicle to the hyundai dealership in goldsboro, nc, on october 23, and they replaced thebrake fluid, which failed to correct the problem with the brakes.they told us the master cylinder needed to be replaced.based on the history of the problem, we did not agree with that diagnosis and, on october 24, took the genesis to johnson hyundai in raleigh, nc, where they determined the problem was caused by a failure of the hydraulic module for the anti-lock brake system. The hyundai company told us they are currently investigating this very same problem with the 2009 genesis but the investigation is not far enough along to determine if a recall will be made.further, that we should have the repairs done (over $2100) and if a recall is made, we would be reimbursed.johnson hyundai is trying to help us find a resolution to this issue.the vehicle is only four years old and about 10,000 miles out of warranty;$2100 in a repair bill is a lot of money for us to pay for a brake problem of which hyundai is already aware. ...updated 11-12-13 johnson hyundai and hyundai corporation replaced the defective abs module at no charge. The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated the vehicle was included and repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). After the vehicle was repaired the contact depressed the brake pedal while driving approximately 25 mph when it fell to the floor board and the brakes would not respond. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated air was entering the brake system causing the failure. The brake fluid was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.the consumer stated the brake went to the floor after the last repair.
I filed my original complaint on 10/21/13 concerning a soft pedal condition. After many visits to my dealer, hyundai agreed to replace the hecu and flush / bleed the system again to correct my issue. The work was performed at the end of november and i picked up the car in early december. After driving the vehicle for a few days the was no improvement / correction of the problem. I contacted my dealer and was told that there was no problem with the brake system and " that the soft pedal condition i was experiencing is a normal characteristic of the genesis" i did not agree with the answerand was given the customer care # at hyundai. I contacted hyundai on 12/17/13 and explained my position( pressureis being lost due to fluid moving somewhere in the hydraulic system ) stating that is not normal. I requested that someone in the design engineering or brake systems engineering department contact meand state that " this is a normal characteristic of the genesis" tell me that this is normal and safe.i was given a case # but have not had a response to date.if in fact the soft pedal condition is a normal condition of the genesis , then why doesn't hyundai just state that.....or is there more to the plot?what is the status of the nhtsa investigation of this issue?

My genesis has less than 26,000 miles on it. Three days ago the brakes failed. The garage stated that it was master cylinder for the brakes. Today they called and stated that the hydraulic control unit also needs to be changed out. My wife was traveling at approximately 45 miles per hour when she attempted to slow the car down for an intersection. She was on lewis ave. In temperance mi. The brake pedal went to the floor board. It did eventually slow the car enough and she was able to exit into a parking lot. At this point we had the car towed to a garage.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard several times when it was depressed. The contact had to apply extreme force to ensure that the vehicle came to a complete stop. While driving about 5 miles from my home my brake pedal became soft and went all the way to the floor. I've had the car for over a year this is the second time this had happened.this all happened while the car was in motion.the part in question is called the hydraulic electronic control unit (hecu).hyundai's recall no. Is 114.
Spongy brake, pedal sink to the floor.
Brakes are a continuing problem or better said bad brakes, like sometimes going to the floorboard. The esc dash light is on and the cruise control doesn't work either. I had completed a recall on the brake fluid, but shortly after that my my petal went to the floor. Being concerned, i replaced the master cylinder, brake rotors, brake lines and pads. Upon bleeding the system, the dealers new brake fluid came out with sludge floating on top of clear fluid. I contacted the dealers general mgr. And complained of a bad drain repair. He asked me to bring my car in and they'll checkit again. I showed him the pictures and they denied that it came from my car, but they would fix my car's brakes for $2700.00 with no guarantee that it wouldn't cost more. This was tom ah dealer ship in lima, ohio. I feel that hyundai should be held responsible for these brake problems.i have the fluid saved and pictures also.upon checking the internet, i have been advised that the esc and cruise control is wired to the abs system. I was on interstate 75 and the car just started applying the brakes by themselves. A ratcheting on off effect. I slowed the car down and pulled the car over to the side. I was within sight of my turnoff state rte 274 oh, so i continued on. I went to stop and my petal went to the floor. I was going slow, made my turn and stopped. I got under the hood just to see if something visual was there. I was within 7 miles of my home a straight line, so i went for it. I pressed on the gas and my left front wheel was locked up. I backed up and went forward again, shutting off the car & restarting it. Brake was released, but petal still went to the floor. I drove home 20 mph, had car towed to dealer for repair. Don't know what they did, but charged $677.00. A couple days later, my petal went tothe floor again. Thats when i did the repairs noted above. Still have problems.
While driving and attempting to raise the steering wheel height the steering wheel would only lower obstructing the gauges making it difficult to see speed and making exit from the vehicle challenging.
What should i do? help!
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that the power steering failed without warning. The dealer stated that the electronic power assist failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 79,636.
Have 2009 hyundai genesis and had a big problem with the car pulling to the left and then the right. Has been at the dealership over 5 times, multiple repairs of alignment and can't correct the issue. I even had 3 independent shops evaluate and then confirm issue and now hyundai states they can no longer confirm problem. They were surprised when i produced the independent opinions. I will not place my family in this vehicle. Hyundai needs some pressure to correct this issue and their behavior has been appalling. I realized this issue the day after i picked up the car and hyundai has been very resistant to help but i think it is because they can not correct the problem.
While driving the 2009 genesis the power stirring pump fails suddenly causing a catastrophic failure and you can stir the car! i've replaced the part twice before in around 90 days and it failed again in less than a year! the part cost &1100 and $2200 total price!this is a documented issue and a factory recall should be forced on hyundai because it's a safety issue! now hyundai is refusing to replace the parts and stated 'our parts dont go bad!'..... Then the parts manager at pohanka hyundai in capital heights md hung up the phone!very poor service and the hyundai genesis has systemic problems! even though i have not had this problem it's also a known defect... The abs also has catastrophic failures and you have no brakes! i've checked and from 2009 until now (2018) these issues are in every genesis manufactured and they won't properly engineer the parts? so hyundai can build a very nice 'profile' car that we can't stir or stop!i'll never buy another and i'm a retired quality assurace engineer for nasa!
I was coming to a stop in traffic, the engine rpm was dropping, and wanted to change lanes.upon accelerating i attempted to turn the steering wheel and i lost power steering, almost collided with other vehiclesand was close to being hit by oncoming traffic. This has happened many times with this vehicle. I am speaking out now because i have seen nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 and it sounds like what my vehicle does.
Tilt steering wheel will not go up which causes me the inability to read the tach, speed and idiot lights.
Iam from iraq.. My car i bought 2 years ago was functioning properly & now i cannot find any maintenence hyundai dealer near by as i love this car & want help for maintaining & returning to function properly because every thing needs maintenance in my car from engine & stability control in roads...please to help me.
My hydraulic module was replaced august 2014 under warranty because of brake system failure.when i drove the car out from the dealershipmy power steering wasnot working at low speed. I have no power steering when backing out my drive way or at low speed like in a parking lot. I have been afraid to notify them because they lied about the hecu ,and did not say it wasanissue covered by recall. They said they would cover the replacement of the hecu under their "" goodwill "" funds. The car has 73856 miles as today. I have been afraid to drive it except close to home in case the power steering completely fails. Only 1209 miles since august 2014 . Todays date 13 april 2015.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)i bought the new hyundai genesis (motor trend of the year 2009). I soon realized (within 200 miles of new car ownership) that car was pulling to the left (sever pull) and to maintain a constant pressure to the right side on the steering (steering at 15 degree right angle) to maintain car drive straight. Very soon i researched the unique problem. Almost all hyundai genesis owners have made similar complaints to hyundai dealers. Hyundai has been hiding a huge potential problem with new genesis model (2009). Many owners have been complaining and no action is being taken by the company. Hyundai is trying to blame this issue on tires - that is deflect their issue to someone else. But this is not the case. To verify, research this problem by google.com - "hyundai genesis steering issue and left or right pull" and you will get more than hundred similar complaints from new owners since 2008/2009 model release. I have been to the dealer 3 times to fix this issue within 3000 miles - but hyundai dealers are just performing alignments - but doesn't fix the problem. We need help from nhtsa (government) as thousands of customer like myself are stuck - and a powerful foreign corporation is unwilling to budge!!please help - i am willing to donate my car for your testing. But this is a disaster waiting to happen as steering doesn't drive straight and veers of to left (or right). Do americans need to die before you take any actions?please call me [xxx] to discuss. Thanks.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the power steering failed causing the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. The vehicle was restarted and operated as normal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the steering column sensor was replaced but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 87,000.
Engine just shuts off while driving.it becomes difficult to steer and control.i was barely able to move to the side of the street and the car behind me almost ran into me because of my loss of power.there are no warning lights and the radio, etc. All stayed on during this event. I had to put the car in park and restart the engine.
The power steering failed suddenly and catastrophically while driving in the parking lot. The steering wheel became hard to turn at any range of speed.the vehicle was examined by the dealership mechanic and i was informed the power steering pump had failed.after some brief research, it seems to be a known amd documented problem. I am awaiting repair(s) and extended warranty authorization as my car is no longer covered by the limited warranty and the power steering is not covered by the power train warranty. This is a costly repair that should be done at the manufacturer's cost under formal recall.
On july 15th while driving my 2009 hyundai genesis, i found myself upside down in a ditch on a country road. Witnesses stated i was not speeding. I was fully alert when they approached, having released my seatbelt, turned off the motor, unlocked the doors. Subsequent heart, cranial etc exams resulted in a possible diagnosis of syncope. I wonder if there have been other reports on this vehicle?
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While driving 65 mph, the power steering failed without warning. The vehicle was towed back to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.
Upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel remains in upper position and interior position, similar to bus steering wheel. It cannot be moved with the electrical positioning button on the steering column and therefore is not safely drivable in this position. Major safety issue
The trunk closeshard, and won't stay up when raised..almost lost some fingersvehicle was off and parked in my garage
In my opinion there is a defect in 2009 hyundai genesis sedan v6 modelthe suspension behavior changes abruptly when going from driving nicely smooth freeways to more stand surfaced urban streets.the ride on the former is normally smooth, firm but acceptable however on the later the wheels bounce so badly that at times they break contact with the street surface. It literally tosses the rear occupants around and makes it difficult for the driver to control the vehicle.i have tried everything i can do including change the wheels back from the optional 18inch rims to 17inch rims and increasing the tire series from the sporty 55 series to the must compliant series 60 tire recommended by the factory.
I bought my 2009 genesis brand new in september 2009.in april, 2010, i was told i had tire wear and needed new tires.tires were wearing in the same pattern, cupping, along the edge.placed my 5th set of tires on this genesis in march 2014 and they are now cupped just like the four sets prior.tires are always balanced.have had alignment done and checked again later.tires have worn in the same pattern since the first set when brand new.tire brands have included dunlop, bridgestone, michelin, yokohama, and firestone.technicians are stumped by this flaw.

The contact stated that the brake pedal felt abnormal when depressed and the stopping distance was increased. The vehicle was taken to paramus hyundai dealer located at 234 nj4, paramus, nj for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100,151.
Car driving on high and when try to stop through toll booth it was no brake and hit to the floor.it got some brake after hit to the floor, and after that i pumped the brake couple times and after about hit to the floor 4 times, it finally came back with normal.this happened twice in the past month.does not happen all the time.i had the recall 114 done 4 years ago but was just replaced brake fluid, the hecu was not replaced.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that the esc, brake, and tpms warning indicators were flashing. The brake indicator randomly remained illuminated and the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. On other occasions, the rpms raced and the speedometer gauge would become stuck intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was not available.
Since the car was purchased new in december 2008 if you put the gear shift in neutral (not park) and switch off the ignition then exit the car and the car is on a slope it can roll away.this has occurred twice over the years, once i exited the car and my wife had to dive over the console and take control.i filed a complaint with nhtsb and repeatedly requested to the dealer to fix it to no avail.
Sudden loss of pressure in the brake pads while driving . Soft brake pads . Intermittent. City
Brake pedal depresses all the way to the floor.replaced brake master cylinder and flushed brake fluid.brake pedal still depresses to the floor.car has 46,000 miles on it.abs censor is faulty.need new module.
On two separate occasions, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.the first time this happened, the car had been sitting all night and it immediately malfunctioned when i started it.after driving a short distance, turning the car off, and restarting it-the brakes worked.my husband took the car to an independent mechanic who could find nothing wrong.the second time this happened, someone pulled out in front of me and i had to hit the brakes.the abs engaged and i did get the car to stop, but the brake pedal went to the floor again.after pumping the brake, it worked again but the brakes still seem soft.i have scheduled a visit with the hyundai dealership in 2 days.there are no warnings before this happens and it seems like a terrible safety issue.after reading all the other complaints, i don't understand why hyundai has not done more with this issue.
My car won't stop as the brake pedal goes to the floor all the way down.the abs & esc lights come on when this happens. I put in a complaint to [email protected], but the girl who returned the call, read from a script and said sorry, your car is out of warranty. Please reference your case number 15737333. This car is unfit to drive and from other postings, it will cost $2500 to repair. The cars value is between $3600/5600 dollars.this is an on going safety problem that hyundai has put off making a proper repair, relying on time and miles to get out of a safety recall. I'm uploading photos of brake fluid taken from my car in march and april 2019
Brake unit failure. Car brake pedal became soft, needs to be pressed to the floor to get the car to stop...and even then it does not stop fast enough to be safe. Online research shows that this is a known issue for this model and hyundai has been covering the cost for this as it is attributed to a part installed at the factory.
I was driving home on the highway when suddenly i hear a loud noise like a someone shot a shotgun through my window, to then realize my whole sunroof had shattered.
A little over a year ago the brakes on my 2009 hyundai genesis completely failed and the pedal went to the floor while attempting to exit the freeway. I was able to avoid a collision with another vehicle and got the car to a complete stop. The brake pedal eventually regained pressure and began functioning again. Over the next 5-6 months the brakes progressively got worse each time i drove the car. I was consistently having to pump the pedal and needed to keep giving myself more and more distance to stop the vehicle. Throughout this period the exterior brake lights and other sensors on the car would stop functioning entirely for periods of time. Those lights and sensors eventually quit and never turned back on. At this point vehicle brakes were getting worse and worse and it had no functioning brake lights so i took it to the dealer that i originally purchased the car from for repairs. The dealer was not associated with the manufacturer and was not able to make repairs to the car but they were able to diagnose what was going on with my vehicle. They documented and described some sort of contamination in the brake fluid that had turned it into a white gooey substance and that fluid caused significant damage and wore completely through the abs module. Coincidentally that is the exact same description that was given for the recalls in 2013 that were associated with this make and model of car (nhtsa campaign 13v489000). The previous owner did have those 2013 recall repairs made at about 60,000 miles but the same issues that caused the first recall are obviously occurring again with the car currently at about 120,000 miles. The manufacturer dealer wants $2500 to replace the abs module and to reset the computer which is over half of the blue book value. That along with the $1000 already spent to diagnose the problems, the car is now borderline totaled at this point.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While driving approximately 7 mph, the brakes failed to work when the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a wall. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 13v489000(service brakes, hydraulic), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and the brakes failed. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the brakes needed to be bled and the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 62,000.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that she noticed that the brake lights would not illuminate when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with the stop lamp switch needing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The dealer stated that the diode wiring system needed to be replaced. The contact was relating the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 13v113000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,394.
The obdii egr monitor is extremely difficult to set under normal conditions.my battery lost charge 18 months ago and i replaced it.i passed my smog test 6 months prior to that.now i am unable to get the egr monitor to "set".the dealer says that 3-4 people call them every week with the same problem and they currently have a car on the lot that has the same problem, preventing its sale.two smog repair shops that i checked (including the one recommended by the dealer) will not guarantee that they can get egr to "set" even when they run the car on a dyno.
When i was trying to enter an expressway from an entry ramp, i stepped on the gas and got no response. The engine did not rev up as it would if the car was in neutral. I coasted to the apron , turned off the car, and restarted it. The gas responded normally after restarting but the engine light stayed on. I took it into the dealer and they reprogrammed the engine control unit, which, so far, has fixed the problem. I was told that the computer just lost track of the accelerator position. While this is not quite as dangerous as toyota's problem, it could still get someone killed if they are trying to pull out in traffic and gets no gas response. On the genesis owners forum there are at least 2 other similar incidents that have been reported. I wrote to hyundai to report this issue and they responded that they would log this incident. However i do not know when they send info to nhtsa.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While the contact was driving approximately 65 mph, the engine lost power on a four lane highway. The engine would not restart.
Lost complete ability to accelerate on highway traveling at 70 mph. No warning, happened twice more before i got it back to a dealer.car did not shut off but would not accelerate.restarted after i managed to get off in the breakdown lane. The car would go another few miles and konk out again.i immediately went to the closest hyundai dealer. They said it was a throttle position sensor.could really have been fatal.
I was driving from rhode island to north carolina and when i was driving west across the tappan zee bridge near new york city and had gotten to the other side of the bridge, i lost throttle response.the car began to slow down in heavy traffic and i had to cross three lanes to get to the right hand lane.the check engine light was on steady at this point.by the time i reached the right hand lane, the car was going only about 35 mph and i was very lucky that i was not hit by other vehicles on the bridge, who were dodging me at high speed on both sides.. This was a very scary situation and could easily have resulted in fatalities.fortunately, there was an exit on the other side of the bridge and i managed to get off i287 and find a place to stop.i checked the internet and found reports that other people had experienced similar events and that the car returned to normal after turning off the engine and restarting it.my wife, who was with me, recalled that something similar happened to her 2004 hyundai santa fe several years ago when it was driven locally by one of my sons.so after about 20 minutes, i restarted the car and found that throttle control had returned and we continued on our way.after stopping to eat later in the day, and returning to the car, the check engine light had gone off and has been off ever since.i managed to return to rhode island yesterday without any further problems, but am now afraid that this might happen again and that i will not be so lucky the next time.i have not had time yet to have the dealer check out the car, but plan to do so as soon as possible.this is clearly a serious safety issue and i am surprised that there has not been a recall to fix this problem, especially considering that it appears to be something that has been happening to hyundai cars, (and possibly others), for some time now.
While driving the car, the engine loses power. Engine and electrical systems still running but when pushing the accelerator, you get no response. This has happened twice within the last 5 days. We have called and setup an appointment with the dealership, but the earliest appointment was this friday. Luckily we were not in heavy traffic or a serious accident could of occurred.
The contact owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. While driving approximately 70 mph the vehicle suddenly decelerated. The issue is that this vehicle losses acceleration and cannot be operator corrected while driving.this is a major safety issue
While the vehicle was idling or in low rpm it would start to sputter as if it was going to stall. I returned the vehicle to the dealer and it was a fault throttle sensor.
The contacts owns a 2009 hyundai genesis. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who inspected vehicle and determined that the failure was caused by a faulty throttle position sensor. The vehicle was repaired by replacing the throttle position sensor. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and a claim was filed with the manufacturer. The approximate current and failure mileage was 15,000. Updated 7/23/12
The side view mirrors are mounted too high and cause a blind spot on the drivers side which blocks your view of the ground on the left front corner of the car when making a left turn. The two drivers of this car are 5'8" and 5'10" and both have the same problem with it. The mirrors are mounted about three inches too high.
Windshield wipers replaced due to "chatter" problem not solved using manufacture parts. During rain windshield wipers stop working, in a few min. The system resets, wipers chatter and stop working. I believe there is a problem with the wiper motor and not the blades, dealer could not fix the problem, i have found that others with this same year, make, and model have the same problem and have not found a solution. I believe that the wiper motor(s) should be replaced under warranty.

Windshield wipers quit working, did some research online, come to find out that the wipers not working is a common problem on all 2009-2012 genesis. Hyundai has not come out with a recall nor a service bulletin knowing this is a safety issue and the vehivle is inoperable in bad weather conditions.
Wiper motor suddenly stopped working. No prior issues, just suddenly stopped working. Have read on internet this has been reported and typically blades will operate if put in lo position but it's not working in my incident! they won't work at all.
