My red air bag notification on my dashboard stays on.was told this means no air bag coverage.also that it is not operating properly.i am driving this but only because dealership said i would need too pay for inspection to see what the problem is then pay to have it fixed.this is not acceptable i am a senior driver and never had a ticket but am worried that this may cause it to deploy on it's own while driving.as a safety issue i feel this not be a charge that i need to cover.i was never notified of a power steering recall.only told about it some time after i paid to have this repaired.now i feel this should be handled as a safety issue by the dealer not me.there are many reports of this regarding the red light alert happening and nothing being done.

2010 hyundai elantra....going home from work on 9/16/10 at 4:30 pm a drunk driver pulled out in front of me.my car was totaled, the seat belt saved my life but not one airbag went off.

Hydroplaned head on into a guardrail and airbags didn't deploy doing 23+ mph. Highway going around a turn.

Passenger airbag lighthas remained on for the past 6 months. I have researched the internet and learned that this is a common occurrence in 2010 hyundai elantra models. Many other hyundai models are being recalled for airbag defects.i do not understand why there is not a recall on my model. Car not safe to driving wondering if air bag will deploy in an accident. I contacted the dealership and hyundai headquarters but both stated my vin is not part of this recall. Why?

Airbag light turned on while driving on rough road on hwy appx. 59k miles. Had passenger in car appx 200 lbs. Took to dealer at 60,500 miles. Is either a faulty seat bracket $2500+ to replace the passenger seat or damaged srs module $1000+, or possibly both.dealer recommends bring car in for additional diagnostic to remove seat an center console $300+ in labor just for that.my warranty conveniently expired at 60k. Dealer could not guarantee a 500 mile extension to my warranty so i will not be proceeding with repairs.this is an unacceptable practice from hyundai, i did nothing wrong to my car, this is a factory defect.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While starting the vehicle, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure occurred on several occasions intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,445.

2010 hyundai elantra gls collided with suv\truck at approx 60 mph at right front bumper area- suv\truck moved left striking elantra in right front bumper then center of bumper as radiator was crushed, bent elantra's front frame both front sides from right to left at about 45 degree angle, and air bags did not deploy.from visual inspection, body shop said that front seat belt pretensioners worked.elantra was a total loss.

The eps light on the dashboard came on one day. I was worried about driving the car, so i went to a nearby mechanic first. He informed me there was an issue with my steering column and an open recall for my vin. He encouraged me to go to a dealership and see if the recall was connected to the steering issue. I went directly to the dealership and had the recall performed. A few days later, the eps light came back on. Shortly after that, the airbag light also came on. I parked the car for fear of a possible incident. I was finally able to get the car back to the dealership. After initial diagnostics, i was informed the steering column needs to be replaced and the technician wants to start the airbag fix by replacing the sensor under the passenger seat. Each repair was over $2,000 with my grand total being just over $4,800 and no guarantee that it will be safe to drive at that point. I have read multiple other complaints about both of these issues and people with under 60,000 miles dealing with $2,000+ dollar repairs. If the steering goes out, it has caused accidents. That coupled with the airbag light, which notifies the whole airbag system has been disabled, makes this car totally unsafe to operate. Even out of their warranty periof now, these were reported issues that i was not made aware of when the car was purchased used in 2013. I contacted the corporate office and made my complaint. When i received a callback, i was told that because my car is over the mileage warranty and there were no open recalls, nothing could be done to help me. The $4,800+ repair bill is mine and mine alone.

"takata recall"today 9/25/17, i took my car to my mechanic because the horn does not work. I was told that the pad in the steering wheel where the airbag is.it is not making contact to make the horn work.he stated that it was a defect from the factory.i never got a recall notice of there being a problem with the airbag. The mechanic was able to test the horn under the hood of car, however whenever i need to blow the horn it does not work.

The airbag warning indicator light turned on and would go on and off, but wouldn't tell me whether it is for the passenger light (which has become faulty sometimes having a false positive or false negative to whether the passenger is there), but most recently has stayed on permanently with the passenger light correctly reading off - it is unclear whether that means that there is an electrical issue or if the driver's side would not deploy. It is unclear what is wrong with the airbag overall and if the car has switched off airbag deployment. The warning light has switched off a few times seemingly indicating everything is fine, however it now stays on regardless of where driven.

I was stopping my 2010 hyundai elantra on gravel road-my right foot on brakes they locked and car jumped to acceleration and landed in bushes know down porto potty with the town gov.'t.

The air bag light stay on not working

When i purchased the car on the 23 of february the salesman assured me nothing was wrong with this car had only had one owner noticed that in the interior of the car there were water rings and a mold substance salesman assured it was not mold took it back 2 days later they replaced struts and again voiced my concern about mold was assured again it was not took it back on 13 of march the owner called and advised me to pick up car stated they had some one come out and inspect the car and they determined it was not mold when ask for a copy of document was told inspectorrefused to leave one. Esc light kept coming on sales manager instructed service dept not to touch my car got test run to check for reports on esc it came back with 2 code c1260(steering sensor)the other b1322(airbag control)was told if it came back on to bring it back.i have tried to get these issues corrected on more that 4 occasions the owner didn't see a problem with the way i was treated .mold is a health hazard i use my car for work. I am in home health and drive the elderly around this is very unhealthy and i think the dealership should correct this at their cost.

The contact owned a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving 13 mph, the vehicle accelerated. The brake pedal was depressed and stuck to the floorboard and the steering wheel locked. The vehicle crossed opposite lanes and crashed through a gate and into a house. The air bags deployed long after the crash occurred. While at a complete stop, i was rear ended and also i rear ended the vehicle in front of me and not one of the airbags deployed.

Sitting in traffic on 405 freeway near exit 52 going south to work when i was rear-ended by a 2013 nissan. Back and front of car folded up, i was ejected from the seat belt (opened up and flew into passenger seat) and not one air bag opened.i could not move, my foot was fractured, stomach hurt, neck, back and arms in pain.chp on the scene. My 2010 elantra has a faulty airbag module. My airbags have never been deployed and i only have around 47,000 in mileage. I took my car to the hyundai dealership and they told me i have a code b1620. They said it would cost about $1100 to fix, which seems like an outrageous cost to me for a safety issue with the car. My car is no longer under warranty, but i believe an issue like this should be replaced free of charge.

My transmission slips. There are an alarming amount of online forums showing this is an all too common problem with this vehicle yet no recall has been issued. I am also having problems with 3 out of the 4 power windows. The issue seems to be amother default in this model car because there were also plenty of others with this same issue. All 3 went out at the same time. The mechanic tried replacing the motor and other internal parts but it still will not work. The mechanic was unable to fix the problem.

Recall was performed on 4/22/15 at no charge. Bought car from dad on 5/26/15. 7 months later the (eps) light come on and i lose steering. If you shut the car off and turn on the light goes out. Its happening every other day. I think this still falls under the recall. I should be able to get fixed for no charge. Places are wanting money and have my car for a few days. Recall says 1hr . Says if not satisfied to write you. Please review. Pretty dangerous driving condition. Have no other car.eps light comes on in motion, turning, mostly at slow speeds. Then lose steering. Here is a picture. I also have video on the road but it wont send.

The front windows stopped working first then the driver's side doors stopped locking consistently using a remote and finally the alarm would go off daily when the car was not on. Direct sunlight was a factor for the alarm as the problem seemed to not happen on rainy cloudy days. There was no way to disable the alarm. Took to the dealer in annapolis md and they had to replace all electrics in the doors, the hood sensor switch, and the key ignition before the problem stopped.this was over a 2 year period and was fixed in summer of 2020.

There have been many break ins since 2014. I got this car 02/2014 and since 07/2014 there have multiple break ins into this vehicle. Confirmed by lakeland hyundai dealership in 2016. This dealership agreed to take the car for a day to do a thorough inspection to search for anything that should not be on the vehicle if i agreed to pay a fee. I was advised by this dealership to take it back to holler hyundai in maitland or winter park, fl and see if they would agree to do the inspection here without charge even though you're out of warranty. Holler hyundai does not have the equipment to do the inspection, only few selective stores in the state of florida have this equipment. I have complained to holler hyundai since early 2015, and they never did anything about it. I contacted hyundai motor finance at 800-633-5151 and all they did was take information down on paper but nothing beyond was resolved. Because of the break ins, this has affected our radio reception while parked sitting inside the car or in motion even when most of the time reception should be clear not cloudy. Electrical wires seem to cause skipping, and how the car functions when in motion. Just two days, i discovered a black jacket was taken from the car. Other items missing from the vehicle since then was: a very expensive burgandy handheld blow dryer; clothes; and other personal items that were hidden inside the vehicle were stolen. I have been very disappointed and upset with holler hyundai and the car since all of this, and feel i shouldn't have to pay anything for this inspection. I'm not involved in any form of illegal activity neither my daughter. We are the only two with keys to this car and we drive together in the car 95% if not 100% of the time.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the anti-theft alarm began to sound independently and without warrant. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 43,000 and the current mileage 100,000.

The light eps , (electronic power steering) randomly turns on and my steering wheel would be stiff and i need to put great effortto turn. Sometimes i'll stop and turn off and on the car to remove the eps. Now on 10/11/2020 the eps light stays on. I might have a car that had a recall for 127. Its dangerous to have my car like this.

With my car running, i was sitting in the drivers seat, with my legs and feet outside the car, on a drive way. My car came out of park, into reverse and drug my feet and legs under the car, while shooting backwards. My car stopped when it came to rest on another car. The person, whose car i hit and the women from the house, where i was visiting pulled me out from under the car.

My car continually will not start. I've had to have the battery jumped several times via roadside assistance. I could drive it one day and the next day, its dead. I even bought a new battery thinking that this was the problem, but the issue persists. I think this may be a major issue. The car was always parked. My car insurance policy attached has the record of how many times i've had to call roadside assistance to jumpstart the cat.

I was driving my car to a doctors appointment when i was making a turn into the parking lot the steering wheel would not move and the eps light came on.i struggled to park the car and after my dr. Appointment called my husband and he drove the car to brandon hyundai where i purchased the car they took the car in and we got a rental car.they replaced column & shaft assy-steerin 56310-2h250 and bolt-safety lock 81919-31000 qty 2work order says found steering column shorted out replace module, test ok731szrecall 110-31c017r0 - stop lamp switch replinstalled 93810-4dr0a-qqh switch assy-brake pedal qty 1then there was another time on december 26, 2014 my granddaughter was driving the car and making a right turn from a two lane road onto a two lane road where cars where stopped at a red light when the steering wheel would not turn and the eps light came on and she hit 2 cars that were at the light.my car had $6002.36 in damage on it.the unibody on the car had to be pulled and squared and an alignment was also done.thank god no one was hurt but what are the chances of this happening again only worse.when it was only a little over four (4) months since it was fixed.i am afraid to drive this car.that someone may be killed.

Stop lamp switch recall.

When turning the car off and removing keys, it doesn't turn completely off.i have to put the keys back into the ignition, turn on and remove again roughly to make the car turn off. This has been happening for a few months.

Jerky steering action for last month. Now eps light has come onto dashboard.

Window motor failed and window gets stuck down happened several times

Had been driving to store and when i started it up again the eps light was red.

I have a 2010 hyundai elantra.filed a report on the suspension, steering and brakes.this report is something i didn't think about until i saw others were having these two issues.1.when you take the key out of the ignition, it still dings and the doors won't lock.i am assuming it still think the key is in the ignition.you have to put the key back in and take it out again to get the dinging to stop.2.i have two cigarette lighter receptacles (now known as 12v accessory sockets).cannot use both at the same time as it causes the tpms light to come on.a few seconds after one of the receptacles have been emptied the tpms light goes out.the first issue happens while parked and the second issues happens whether parked or driving . . . Mostly when driving.

Car power goes out for a few seconds while driving.happened several times such as when turning lights on or signal and all lights on dash go out.car has also lost power when putting it into reverse and had to restart it.its an automatic so shouldn't be happening. Also auto locks aren't at times.hyundai has already replaced the radio and locks thinking this was the fix and clearly its not.

Vehicle was took in to dealership last4/22/2015 for eps recall nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 and hyundai recall 127. They completed a software update. The recall does not fix the problem on 5/26/2016 was driving the 2010 elantra and eps light came on causing loss of steering capability. Called hyundai they said it was not part of recall take to dealer. Dealer on 6/1/2016 stated that the software update was done but did not fix eps steering issue and would need to replace steering column $2150. The recall obviously did not fix the problem and after doing research online have noticed many others are having the same issue. If a recall is to fix the problem the recall should be done fully and correctly not cheaply and halfway. The eps causes stiff steering making it impossible for a person to steer. This could lead to many accidents and possibly death. The light comes on and immediatley with out warning the steering is automatically gone. While driving i was almost in an accident because after losing steering i tried make a turn off the main road into a subdivision to get off the main road. As i was turning at a very low speed below 5 mph i was unable to stay in my lane and a car was exiting the subdivision. Although there would be minor damages, this could be different if i was on the highway at an exit coming around a turn. The loss of steering is unsafe and i do hope that the right measures are eventually taken to resolve this issue before someone is killed. The vehicle has less than 45000 miles on it.

2010 hyundai elantra: recently experienced a vehicle fire. It occurred on tuesday, december 29, 2020. . i parked my vehicle on the street per usual and maybe 15 minutes after arriving home from work my mother began yelling that was my vehicle was in flames! i opened the front door and saw it was indeed in flames and popping and smoking. I immediately called 911 whom sent out the fire department. After they were able to distinguish the fire, they determined the cause to be electrical in nature considering the battery of the vehicle was completely gone. I have the case number as well. My vehicle was turned off and parked and randomly caught fire. Thankfully i wasnt in it when it happened or things could have beem alot worse. But i am now without a vehicle and on top of that i had to pay to get the vehicle removed from my apartments property.

Purchased elantra july 12, 2012. I called my brother for financing information. He came to the dealership. Mazda of orange. When he started reading the contract the became very upset. He called out the salesman for the extra charges, taking advantage of me, by not telling me i didn't have to add these things. The manager, ask me to come to his office to close the deal.i needed a co-signer.a friend of mine said he would co-sign. We signed.the first malfunction was the cruise control.i was in the number one lane the traffic began to slow.so i tapped the brake, again and again, it would not shut off. Even though iwas applying the brakes. I was terrified and trembling.the second incident was when, i was pulling into a parking place, with myfoot on the break. Even though i was applying the brakes, the car sped up went over two cement stops ultimately hitting another vehicle head on. This vehicle was pushed back approximately 6 ft.the third malfunction, was september 25th, 2013. Upon the request of a friend, i pick up her daughter from school. When we got home, i parked in the driveway on a slant. We removed the packages from the trunk into the house. I sat down in the drivers seat, with my feet outside the car on the pavement.the car lunged very hard and fast backwards. I, subsequently was pulled down and under the car. I was dragged 12 to 15 ft. When it stopped, my car had hit another car. I ended up under my vehicle, in serious condition. The national highwaytraffic safety administrationhad reported on-linethat there were extensive recalls on this very model. I have yet to receive any notice.

The dash lights flash and the key when removed from column is hot.

Earlier this summer my front passenger window, driver control would roll the window down but not up, then about 2 months later the same issue with the driver side rear window it is very puzzling how the driver control will lower the involved windows, but its as if the driver controls are dead when trying to roll up??? but if you use the up switch on the door the window is associated with they work both ways.risky in some of the areas i have to travel for work to reach over or behind you to put up windows!had anyone experienced these problems?

The car alarm keeps going off without any activity ( parkedand lockedin my drive way).i have looked the car over but so far i see no reason for the alarm to be triggered.

Water leaks from windshield area into behind dashboard and accumulates on floor mats(front area). Front right wheel scraping noise. Already replaced tire, premature tire failure. Heater control lights turns off.

Door handle defective. Mirror defective

Driving to work today the eps light came on while in the process of changing lanes. The steering wheel locked up causing the vehicle to do a bit of swerving. Managed to pull off to the side. Prior to all this,i complained about the eps as it was something that was happening before. The light would come on, the vehicle would lock up and upon turning off the ignition and restarting the vehicle, it would reset itself. I went and saw a mechanic , they alleged testing the vehicle for the eps problem however nothing came up and they refused to address that issue. ,i called hyundai warranty department and filed complain since i just run out of warranty and prior to this i had my car at the dealership before and left without repairs being done due to no code showing.i was told i should get the issues fixed and hope i mid be refunded. This is a serious safety issue and a defect on their part which needs to be addressed and at the expense of hyundai. I am filing this complaint as i expected more from them and have gotten nothing besides bills left to pay for something hyundai knew was an on going issue with the vehicle they had been selling. With the excuse they cant work on a car unless the code is showing. Well dear hyundai the light shuts off when u turn the car off and it is dangerous to drive to an dealership for them to lock at the issue and it is ridicules to have a run around for a well know issue on your product that can cause an accident.

Steering column shakes bad. ...while in motion...city street and highway

As i was exiting the highway onto a sharp curved off ramp, unexpectedly the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn without warning. This unexpected loss of my power steering almost put me into the roads guard railwhile navigating the off ramp.i was able to regain control and safely pull to the side of the road.i noticed the 'eps' light was on. I shut of my vehicle and tried to trouble shoot it, which i was unable to do.i restarted the vehicle and the light went off and my sterring returned to normal power steering mode.the second time this happened my wife was driving the vehicle to the dealership so they could troubleshoot the eps issue, again the vehicle lost power steering with the eps light turning on.the vehicle is being taken to hyundai of slidell for diagnostic testing. The dealer also stated that the vin was excluded from a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 15876848 the approximate failure mileage was 148,000.

I have bought a new 2010 hyundai elantra in august of 2010. One morning i was headed to work which was this year, march 2013; i cranked my car and on the dashboard in red was the esc light on. I could not turn the steering to the right or left as if it was locked. I was unable to go go to work and was really frustrated. I searched the internet about this esc problem with hyundai and there have been many reporting with this problem, so i called serra hyundai where i purchased the car and told them about the problem.i had to get the car towed there and i was about of a vehicle for one day.

This light came of shortly after purchasing the car and after 15 mins of driving it everytime seems to cone up ive tried pressing the off button for it but that doesnt work the car seems to steer itself at times along with occasional break problems... I tried to answer yes to it had been in a wreck but didnt know any of the required information following that because i dont know anything about the wreck since it happened during the possesion of its previous owner all i was told is that it had been in a wreck during purchase

Returning from south jersey with my minor son, the eps light came on while in the process of changing lanes. The steering wheel locked up causing the vehicle to do a bit of swerving. Managed to pull off to the side of the road and call for help. Prior to all this, vehicle was taken to hyundai in paramus, nj for a recall for some other part. At this time, i complained about the eps as it was something that was happening before. The light would come on, the vehicle would lock up and upon turning off the ignition and restarting the vehicle, it would reset itself. At hyundai, they alleged testing the vehicle for the eps problem however nothing came up and they refused to address that issue. This time on 8/10/13, the light is now on and the vehicle will not rest itself. I tried calling hyundai for this defect and was put on hold indefinitely. I then sent an email to them about it and they refused to respond. In my email to them, i expressed this was a serious safety issue and a defect on their part which needs to be addressed and at the expense of hyundai. Still no response.i am filing this complaint as i expected more from them and have gotten nothing.

The electronic power steering (eps) electronic control unit (ecu) senses a discrepancy in the steering input signals and, as a result, disabling the steering power assist. My young daughter was driving when this happened which could have caused an accident. I see this has been recalled in certain models of the same year but not our vehicle. Vehicle was in motion and power steering assist was lost, greater effort to steer the vehicle at a low speed.

59,600 miles in car. Parked car for night, next morning turned vehicle on and eps and esc off lights were on. Vehicle had no power steering and was hard to turn if not moving. Recall on eps software was done 11 months ago. Took to dealership where problems were diagnosed as bad sensors. That's not bad until they tell you sensors themselves cannot be replaced and you need to have a complete new steering column installed at $2,500. Yes the car is 8 years old, but only 59,600 miles. Looking at complaints, this is a problem hyundai should address.

While pulling into a parking space with my foot on the brake, i suddenly had a unintended and very rapid acceleration.with my foot mashing the brake pedal i was able to slow the car enough to complete the park (it did not completely stop). I immediately shifted the transmission into neutral and the engine really revved up. Once i was sure the car was not going anywhere, i checked to make sure i was stepping on the brake (and not on the gas pedal). I then touched the gas pedal (or shifted in park) and the engine went back to normal.i checked the floor mat and it was in normal position.i had a similar but way less dramatic (much lower rpms) a month previous.the car acted fine after this.i reported this to hyundai motor america and they assigned a case number to me.i brought it to a hyundai dealer and they could find nothing wrong.this event was very terrifying and i am not sure i want to drive this car.

Car stalls while driving on both highway and side streets. Won't start up right away. Each time it happened it took longer and longer for it to start.

Jerky steering action for last month. Now eps light has come onto dashboard.

Loud noise started coming from engine while driving on highway.taken to hyundai dealership and diagnostics indicated a bad engine

Hyundai elantra spontaneously burst into flames while parked in our driveway. It had been 6 hours since it was last driven.

I was approaching highway from city roads and i had to accelerate to get in the flow. Suddenly, i felt that even though i was accelerating, car did not gain speed. I checked rpms and it was quite high for the speed that car was moving. It looked to me as if car was in neutral gear but it was not. The car behind me almost hit my car because the driver was expecting my car to move faster. I had to stop on shoulder to check what is happening. I had this kind of experience before too but not like this one. Then it happened again when i got off the highway and i was back in city traffic. What my observation is, that when the automatic transmission goes from 2nd gear to 3rd, there is a problem. When i bought the car, even then the transmission was not smooth but there was no problem like the one i mentioned earlier. But as the mileage is increasing, the problem is getting bigger too. I do regular oil change as i have purchased service plan when buying the car. I had complained to the dealer service representative about it(transmission having problem) couple of times but they said they did not feel it. I think they were neglecting the problem because there is problem with transmission and that costs a big amount. I feel that this is a big problem even though i am not an expert.

When driving at highway speeds, the transmission slips out of gear and the rpms go sky high and the car runs like it is in neutral. I have to tap the brake before it will adjust and go back into gear. This seems to be a bigger problem when carrying passengers. The added weight appears to be a factor. It's rather dangerous since it can happen at any time without warning and happened just this past weekend when driving in minneapolis, mn in heavy traffic. Mileage reported is estimated for when i first noted this problem approximately a year ago. Not knowing a lot about cars, i didn't think to report it.when i first bought the car, i was typically driving from home to work and back, but have been traveling more frequentlyin the last year due to family activities.the problem occurs more often on longer trips.

Check engine light came onupon research i found out it could be the evap emission control systempres sensor lowit is unkown as to whatelse this encompasses

While making a turn onto a bypass, vehicle lunged forward faster than speed applied and then resumed normal.has happened intermittenly while driving 30 to 40 miles an hour other times.does not happen often.

Car slams and shifts to 3rd gear over 60 miles in motion and freezes at that speed. Advanced tests have been donfull transmicion and other tests have been tested and no cause has been found different codes come up like 734, all pieces working properly and i chanched to new ones an issue continues

Am the owner of a 2010 elantra which was purchased new in the spring and have experienced my trunk open suddenly many times over the past 10 months - either while driving and/or in the garage. Once where it was parkedfor 4 days and resulted in the battery discharging fully because the trunk light was left on.the dealer claims that i must somehow be pressing the fob button to open the trunk, which has never been the case. The actual fob button requires a lot of pressure to open the trunk.

The rear passenger automatic door lock has stopped working. It has to manually unlockedand lockedfrom inside the car! i wonder what this will cost???

Trunk lid opens by itself either when driving or while parked. Had my 2010 elantra towed to dealer saturday 03/05/11 after hearing a loud sound under rear of car as if something metal had broken, then it sounded like something under the rear of the car had dropped, then a loud scraping noise occurred, this happened while turning right into my paved driveway. I stopped immediately and looked under the car, there was nothing in the road or my driveway. As i pulled the car in the driveway loud rattling and scraping sounds and sounds of springs stretching and breaking were coming from the left rear wheel, i looked for anything foreign stuck in the wheels and saw nothing. The dealer said all they found was rust on the rotor. Give me a break, all rotors rust and it rained all day sunday before they looked at the car. I had driven the car at least 45 miles that saturday before this all occurred, there would have been no rust left on the braking surface of the rotors by then. Besides rust does not cause the sounds that i heard. Also when the car was up on the flat-bed i noticed the left rear wheel was on a slant. I will ask the dealer to fully inspect the suspension and if they can pull the rear rotors off to inspect the emergency brakes and to check out why the trunk lid opens by itself on tuesday 03/08/11, and i will let the nhtsa know the results.updated ivoq 03/11/11

When putting the car in park on a incline the transmission fails to hold the car resulting in the car rolling away while unoccupied, i put my 2010 elantra in park got out of it to get something from the back sseat, the car was on an incline at the time in my driveway. As i reached to open the rear driver side door i hear a loud bang and then i had about a second to look around and then the transmission made a repetitve banging and clicking sound as the car started rolling backwards. I had to open the front driver door and hop in the car while it was moving so i could hit the brake pedal to stop the car. After this i went to a local hyundai dealer and talked to them about the issue the told me they have seen this before and had to replace transmissions in the cars affected. I bought mine from a used car lot about ten days ago i am taking it back and they are going to attempt to fix the car, however i would like a recall issed so i can take this car to get the problem fixed so i know for sure this is not going to happpen again.. As of right now i have to use the emergency brake to hold the car to be sure its not going to roll away when no one is there to stop it.. This is very unsafe and a google search will confirm that this is an issue with these cars years 2007 till 2010. I can go outside right now and garantee if and stress is created by parking on a slight incline the car will roll away in park.. I showed the dealer that i got the car from this yesterday and it did this 2 out of 3 times that i put the car in park on a slight hill..... Thank you for your time

My transmission jerks when it changes gears and also when i put the car in reverse. I got the car from a hyundai dealership and told them that there was a slight jerk in the transmission and the sales guy lied to me and said it was a cvt transmission and that they all do that. I went to a few transmission shops and the guys laughed at me because my car doesn't have a cvt transmission. They all did a tran scan and nothing came up on the scanner. The shops are trying to charge me hundreds of dollars just to open up the transmission to see what's wrong with it. It's so wack to be paying a car note on a car with a bad transmission. I looked online and found out that this is a common issue with this model of the elantra and don't understand why there isnt a recall.

Transmission slips and jerks going to third gear and sometimes takes about 5 seconds to downshift if acceleration is needed as i'm entering a highway. My car had about 45,000 miles when this started to happen. A lot of people have the same problem according to online forums but the manufacture would not issue a recall on these defective transmissions.

Transmission fails every 35,000 to 45,000 miles.replaced twice under 90,000 miles.starts as the car hesitates to shift or does not shift for a few minutes.this happens on city streets and highways.

2010 hyundai elantra hesitates and jerks when accelerating. This happened intermittently after a year or two after buying it brand new. At 160,000, it happens more frequently. This happens at about 30 to 40 miles an hour (sometimes higher while on highway). It happens on city street or highway. I have seen many complaints online about this and do not understand why it is not a recall.

This is not an isolated incident it is an ongoing problem with my vehicle. On my 2010 elantra automatic transmission, it is as though the gears are not working. When the car is in drive the issue arises. In order to get the car to 40 mph i have to literally hit the gas and get the rpms to 5,000 or almost 6,000 before the car will shift.the car then shifts but when it is settling into 1000-2000 rpm's the power jerks as if it has lost power momentarily, this happens anytime you are trying to accelerate.going up a small hill this car will go about 10-15 mph for more than 30 seconds.this is unacceptable and could be a safety issue if the transmissions go out completely while these cars are being driven.loosing the ability to shift should be a concern here.

I was approaching highway from city roads and i had to accelerate to get in the flow. Suddenly, i felt that even though i was accelerating, car did not gain speed. I checked rpms and it was quite high for the speed that car was moving. It looked to me as if car was in neutral gear but it was not. Vehicle shakes and rattles insideat 35-40 mph, also decreased acceleration! noisy, uncomfortable and embarrassing.

Vehicle has 85,000 miles and the transmission slips in 2nd and 3rd gears. Does not matter if the weather is warm or cold or if engine is warm or cold. Reoccurring problem for several months.

The problem started around 31,000 miles and continues now with 85,000 miles, while driving 40mph at stop and go or even uphill transmission seems to slip into neutral and will then be back in gear without any banging.the dealer changed the filter and fluid around 40,000 miles and blew us off.the time it takes to get back into gear is longer now than in the beginning. There's too many transmission complaints to be ignored.i recently received an unrelated recall for this car but will find another dealer 50 miles away to fix it.

Just starting getting a big problem with the steering making noise in steering wheels .. And it get worse .. Seat belt keeps unclicking

Bought my car used to find out that the transmission is slipping. I've looked online to see that i am not the only person with the same problems. Going on to the highway i've noticed that my rpms go high up to 3rd and dont kick into gear until i'm on flat surface on the highway also with a rough slam into the right gear, barely feels like i'm getting the right power. Even driving in the city my car has a rough jerk when going into gears. I cant believe this is not on a recall!!!?.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle would hesitate before accelerating. The contact also stated that when the transmission was put into reverse, the vehicle would hesitate before suddenly moving backward. The vehicle was diagnosed but no problem was found. The contact indicated that the vehicle continued to experience the defect. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 25,000.

While leaving a parking lot in the city, in drive, car would not shift into next gear, unable to go above 25mph; with additional pressure to gas sending rpms high without altering speed or shifting gear.after finding a place to park, no cel.upon restarting car, cel is illuminated, and car will not shift into park, reverse, or neutral, and upon putting into drive the car jerks forcibly.the shift indicator on the dash also fails to register p, r or n.only drive.had car towed and left at autorepair shop and the next morning they were able to pull code u0101 from diagnostic testing, and after plugging the tcm back in after examining pins and connectors, the transmission returned to normal function.

Noise when turn right and left. Also when is driving make a noise under the stering wheel colunm-dash

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the transmission hesitated to shift from second into third gear without warning. Also, when the vehicle made a hard stop, it made a clunking sound. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The contact spoke with parks hyundai of gainesville (3111 n main st, gainesville, fl 32609, (352) 372-4251) and was informed that they could not assist since the vehicle was purchased as is. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 66,000. *ln

While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle would hesitate before accelerating. Alsowhen the transmission was put into reverse, the vehicle would hesitate before suddenly moving backward. The vehicle was diagnosed but no problem was found.the vehicle continued to experience the defect after being diagnosed. This is starting to happen daily. I have noticed that many people on this site have had the same issue. This really needs to be looked into before it becomes a bigger problem. It can cause accidents. When trying to accelerate and enter highways it's a problem. The car hesitates and revs before accelerating.

The transmission slips when trying to accelerate and on inclines - losing power to the wheels (feels like you are in neutral, and the rpm's go way up). A very scary and dangerous feeling when merging onto a highway for instance. The car has been well maintained and had the transmission fluid replaced per schedule. As seen from others, this is a common complaint for this vehicle. Nhtsa should order a recall. Have also noticed a clunking noise when coming to a hard stop.

For several months now my car feels as if it is slipping into neutral when i try to speed up on the highway. When i am doing city driving i can feel a jerking motion when accelerating from a stop position or slow movement. My car only has about 45,000 miles on it. Trying to get on the highway can become very nail biting when you try to speed up and your car slips into neutral. I find that i have to put the gas pedal to the floor, and get the rpms to 5, in order to get it into gear. I'm seeing far too many complaints regarding this and i'm not sure why it's not being recalled. Are they waiting for a fatality????

A failing transmission in a low mileage car is an issue. At just over 51,000 miles my automatic transmission began jerking into gear between 2nd and 3rd. After having it diagnosed i was told they were able to "sort-of feel what i was talking about" and initially recommended a fluid change. When i asked questions about that, suddenly i was told it was in internal failure and i needed the transmission replaced. That evening the slipping got worse and the transmission hesitated going into reverse and had a big problem shifting up hills. With a transmission not shifting normally and power being affected because of that, this is a safety issue. This problem developed quickly and did not present itself as one might expect a failing transmission to do.

The transmission of the car will havehiccup when it shifts into different gears when driving around 30-40 mph.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked and drove abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,257.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving and accelerating or decelerating, the transmission failed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 41,037.

I have a significant defect and safety issue with my 2010 hyundai elantra that should be recalled by hyundai. There seems to be a problem with the automatic gear shifter. The first issue is intermittent where the car does not turn on or even make a clicking noise when i try to turn the key in the ignition. This might make you think the battery is dead, but that is not the case. After a while of turning the car on and off, the car will eventually start. The second issue is that the gear shifter gets stuck and will not shift from one position to another. After much difficulty in getting it unstuck and shifting, the third and most significant problem is that the indicator as to which gear the car is in is not reflecting the actual gear that the car is in. This presents a real safety issue as the indicator will say that the car is in park, but the car will roll like it is in neutral so the only way to get this to stop is to put on the emergency break while parked.shifting into a position that you think youā€™re in, but not actually in, can result in hitting a pedestrian or another car. In rare instances, the car will actually shift into the correct position indicated by the gear shifter while it is in park. You can find numerous results if you do a google search on the internet for the issues iā€™ve described above in hyundai cars. Since the gear shifter is not working properly and is getting stuck, i feel this presents a significant safety issue should i need to get out of the way quickly in either a drive or reverse position or if i am expecting to be in a park position and the car keeps moving.

I was stopping my 2010 hyundai elantra on gravel road-my right foot on brakes they locked and car jumped to acceleration and landed in bushes know down porto potty with the town gov.'t.

Eps or electric power steering stoped working in the middle of the intersection when i tried to turn left. Vehicle became uncontrollable and i had to stop in the middle of the intersection. Everyone started honking and several lights changed before someone approached and helped me just to park the vehicle right after the intersection. There was no lights or any warning that this will happen. I was lucky not to get injured because of this car malfunction. I contacted hyundai and they confirmed there was recall with that particular problem! recall numbers 931 and 127. But since than they are very unprofessional and not interested in fixing this issue! i feel like they have 0% interest in helping their customers! second issue that persists for longer time are seatbelts. They pop open in random moments of driving! they donā€™t stay locked the whole drive and i feel unsafe in my hyundai! i called hyundai the same day ( may 20th) i almost crashed because of well known recall on bad design eps , and today august 10th , other than exchanging few emails, they didnā€™t help me at all! iā€™m really disappointed with hyundai safety and customer care, andi donā€™t recommend to anyone to buy and own hyundai !

Steering wheel makes a clicking noise when speed is low and it is turning weird. Also the seat belt doesnt restrain properly

We received a letter in regards to a safety recall on the 2010 elantra. We own two of this vehicle. I contacted huntington hyundai, in huntington, n.y. To schedule the repair.as per joe santiago who answered, they are not taking appointments for this repair, and will only be accepting vehicles on a first come first serve basis monday - friday 9 am - 5 pm.it was explained that we may have to come back multiple times before the vehicle is accepted for repair.as a first res ponder i am still working during the outbreak and will be unable to take multiple days off from work to "try" to get the car in. They were very unhelpful and unnecessarily rude throughout the entire conversation.

I'm requesting nhtsa to investigate failures of several systems of hyundai elantra 2010: simultaneously failed/unresponsive braking, lurching/acceleration despite trying to push brake pedal, &failed power steering causing unsafe situation and accident in which air bags also failed to deploy despite 2 impacts to front end but form only allowed 3 parts of car affected.my husband pulled out of our garage front first @approx. 1-2 mph. When he tried to brake at end of driveway/check for oncoming traffic before entering road to park in front of our house. Brakes &power steering failed simultaneously as car lurched/accelerated forward. Car hit a van driving by &our vehicle bounced back into pole which sent car on sidewalk. Car continued to accelerate/lurch forward on sidewalk despite his foot on brakes. He continued to try to brake &steer but neither worked. Car hit neighbors wall/garage &car stopped. Just missed hitting a parent/child walking by. Air bags didn't deploy during either impact police came after accident. Didn't fill out report bc at time he he felt ok except for shaken up. He was in shock &does have pain& loss of mobility to neck/back. He's seeking treatment. It was in front of our house and a clear/dry day. No floor mats/anything were stuck under either pedal.

While in heavy, slow moving traffic, a car stopped abruptly in front of me. I slammed on my brakes but my car seemed to accelerate. I had left space between our vehicles but the car kept moving forward and i hit the vehicle in front of me causing several thousand dollars of damage.this is the second occurrence.

Eps light randomly came on again and locked my steering which is dangerous while driving on the road and parking, can't move the steering left or right. Issue has occurred before around the initial eps recall, took it then to the same dealer (sport hyundai dodge) where car was originally purchased to update or patch up fix. Recently went to the dealer to also fix the abs module recall and run a diagnostic on the eps. They stated it's the steering column that needed to be replaced. A $2100 repair, which they will file with the manufacture to see if it's covered. By reading these repeating complaints, something tells me that they will continue to ignore the problem till it's in harms way instead of preventing the safety issues. Currently had to give up working hours and in financial stress over a manufacturing problem that should have been addressed correctly in the beginning.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, he attempted to engage the brakes but the vehicle did not respond. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that the vehicle was performing to standards. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 48,000 and the current mileage was 54,000.

While exiting the freeway at about 25 mph, traffic stopped abruptly on the access road.i slammed on my brakes but the car seemed to accelerate.i hit the vehicle in front of me even though i had 2 car lengths of space between us. The accident caused several thousand dollars of damage.

The brake booster vacuum check valve suddenly failed while driving resulting in vastly reduced braking power and near inability to stop the vehicle. I was lucky to have been able to let the car slow naturally and turn onto a side road. If i had been approaching an intersection i could have easily been injured or killed. When inspected the vacuum line was completely disconnected from the valve resulting in no power from the brake booster. This part of the vehicle had never been serviced.

I received a letter from hyundai regarding my 2010 hyundai elantra. A recall relay in the vehicles main junction box. For the anti- lock brake system. It was recall feb 2020.received the letter april 6,2020. They waited to long to send the letter.

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

At 36,000 miles i needed all new brakes and rotors and the 2 front tires were completely worn to extreme unsafe condition. Spent over $680 to repair it all.

While my wife, linda, was driving less than 1-2 mph, turning into a parking space, all of a sudden, the engine started racing and leaped forward. Hitting the brakes had no effect on stopping the vehicle. She desperately turnedthe wheel to miss parked cars, a steel pole was hit and torn out of the ground by the runaway vehicle.finally the car came to rest after hitting a large concrete light pole, which must have stalled out the engine. My wife was in a state of shock and had to go to the hospital for tests / xrays. Even with the seat belt on, she received major impact from the steering wheel to her chest.

My model, make and year have had recalls to rust under the carriage and underside. I had to replace my rotors due to rust. I se that you recalled in delaware and i'll. Due to salt. I live in the state of virginia and we have salt. I would appreciate if you would consider my rotors as included with this recall. I am enclosing pictures and am hoping maybe to recover some of the expense that i incurred.

The car creaks when you go at a slow speed or over a hump.the steering wheel also makes a clicking or knocking sound when steering it and when you turn the car to the left or right it makes a creaking noise.when you get out of the car, it seems that it creaks once the weight is lifted.the creaking is either when stationary or when going at a low speed over humps and when turning the wheel.when driving at normal speed or doing the speed limit, you don't hear the creaking, but the steering wheel still knocks.and when putting on brakes after normal speed, the steering wheel knocks badly.

The car revving when the cruise control is on and pushing on the breaks then not being able to put the car in reverse or park. I had to use the shift lock release to just be able to get it into park after that.

My wife owns a 2010 hyundai elantra and the complaint i've got is about the lug nuts. I had to replace the rear brake pads, brake shoes and rotors. The first problem i ran into on this project was that the lug nuts were so rusted that the lug wrench supplied with the car wouldn't fit over them - the chrome plating on the nuts had deteriorated allowing rust to built up underneath the plating so that the wrench wouldn't fit. (i thought of those individuals who had to change flat tires on the road and wouldn't be able to get the flat tires off.) i called the dealer to see if new lug nuts were covered under warranty but they said no, that they'd give me a 'deal' of $10/nut - around $200 to replace all them on the car! i still have the rusted lug nuts on the car but carry an additional wrench that will fit over them. I did manage to replace all the parts, including rusted and warped rotors mentioned in some of the other complaints i've seen but caution anyone who plans to tackle this job to be prepared for a grueling job.

I took my vehicle to firestone auto for an oil change and inspection. The technician found that when he applied the brakes they pulsated. Upon further investigation he found that all of the brake rotors are rusted and pitted. The rear rotors are worst than the front. He also noted that the rear brake shoes are worn out and need replaced. Normally the front pads are replaced twice to once in the rear. My guess is that the rotors caused the rear pads to wear out prematurely. I contacted hyundai and they said that the rotors are warranted for 5 years / 60,000 miles but only manufactured defects are covered. They said that rusting and pitting from weather conditions is not covered. Should i have kept them oiled so they didn't rust? i have a 2006 kia with over 113,000 miles on it and the rotors are still perfect with no rust or corrosion. Both vehicles have been exposed to the same driving and weather conditions. Had i not paint for the vehicle inspection and been told that the rotors and brake pads were bad. I could have been subjected to brake failure or possibly one of them hanging up and causing a spin out condition.

I have excess play in the steering wheel/bumping/clicking, when the engine is running. This causes a shimmy in the front end when braking.there have been no accidents or injuries so far.this seems to be a problem with the power steering.there is no excess play in the steering column when the engine is not running.there is excess play anytime the engine is running, the steering wheel will move several inches without moving the front wheels.

Last week the day after dlst ended, i used by headlights for the first time in months. This seemed to coincide with the start of the clicking of my steering wheel while driving. I stopped & talked w/ a mechanic, he said a dealer would have to do a costly repair because it involved the computer located in the steering column.it would probably need replacement. I am worried it may be a safety issue. He said it was not but i decided to check recalls.

My steering wheels feels like it locked. It's really difficult to turn the steering wheel. It feels firm in place unless i turn it really hard with force and it's moves the vehicle slightly to the direction i turn too. It's usually happens randomly so i can't predict when it will lock in place. There's been a couple of times where i'm parked and getting ready to leave and as i head out of my parking spots i get stuck because the steering wheel. When this happens in red letters "eps" show up on my dashboard. This also happened when i'm driving normally in the freeway. When sign eps shows up and i have to park my car on the side with emergency lights on and completely turn off my car in order to drive normally and for the eps light to turn off on the dashboard. When turning on city streets, my steering wheel also locks itself in place at random times. The turns are usually wide and awkward because i can't move the steering wheel when eps is on the dashboard. Hence why i turn on my emergency lights then this occasion happens. I've had this problem since i bought this car at carmax in the year of 2015 but it's been happening frequently this year.

Steering wheel clicking noise started in april 2021.looked up and there was a recall for steering collar on 2010 hyundai elantra..i went to delray hyundai for recall and they said they had to charge me(over $400) to replace steering collar that was recalled.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle would pull violently to the left or right while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure but decided to performed an alignment to temporarily remedy the problem. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 0 and the current mileage was 14,000.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving approximately 55 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the eps needed to be replaced. The vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were unknown.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the power steering warning indicator was illuminated. The contact scheduled an appointment with fred beans hyundai of langhorne (located at 1106 e lincoln hwy, langhorne, pa 19047, 888-754-7841); however, the contact cancelled the appointment because she wanted to find out if the vehicle was included in a recall first. 23 may 2011, i own a 2010 hyundai elantra with 14,??? mi on it. As i was entering a curve on paved road at approximately 20 mph the electric power steering failed. I was able to maintain control using extreme effort avoiding oncoming traffic. I pulled over to the next safest area to calm down and regain my composure. The eps light was on and had no power steering. I looked under the hood for any sign of cause of failure and found nothing. Drove the car straight to the dealer and the service managers response when he tried to turn the wheel was "oh my". The dealership gave me a loaner car to drive since the elantra was still under warranty. I called the service department on 13 june and they said they replaced a sensor and that didn't fix it and they were going to replace the steering column.20 june 11, still waiting on repair of car. I returned the loaner because i no longer trust electric power steering no matter what anybody tells me. Yes the car is under warranty and the parts can be replaced. But, i am the sole provider for my family, i don't have a warranty nor any replacement parts and it cost a whole lot more to fix any damages to me than it does that car. Not to mention the person i met in that curve or their family.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle pulled to the right while driving at any speed and the front tires wear prematurely.the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer replaced the tires several times and performed an alignment, but the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 21,304 and the current mileage 23,141....updated 08-03-12 updated 7/25/12 the consumer stated the dealer also recalipbrated the steering angle sensor. Updated 08/06/2012

I was driving on the highway and was cut off by another car.i was travelling about 50mph,i proceeded to brake (did not require hard braking, because me speed was not high)and steer to the right to avoid hitting the right sideof the car that cut me off.my car over compensated andproceeded to swerve.it took a lot to regain control.my initial steer to avoid the car in front was not significant enough to cause the vehicle to swerve out of control.i have never experienced this with other vehicles that i have driven and this experience was rather frightening.

Started the car on june 24, 2019 with the intention to go to work. The eps warning light came on. The light did not go out as usual. Attempted to turn the steering wheel. The wheels were very hard to turn. Because the wheel would not turn enough to change the direction of the car. It was deem undriveable and unsafe. The car was at home. The car had to be tow to the hyrndai dealership on july 2. 2019 and as of july 14, the caris still at the dealership being repaired.

The eps light came on and is still on while driving. And they is a a gilding noise coming from the steering wheel like its loose, and sometimes making it difficult to turn.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While operating the vehicle, the electronic power steering (eps) sensor illuminated and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. Also, the brake lights erroneously illuminated without depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to sport durst hyundai in durham, nc where it was diagnosed that the eps was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v10000 (steering), although the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 96,000.

Over the past 2 years the electric power steering (eps) on my 2010 hyundai elantra has failed multiple times - the power steering stops and the eps light on the dash illuminates. Luckily i was always close to home and no one was hurt. It happens under all kinds of conditions, going uphill / downhill / 50mph or 5mph / turning / driving straight - there is not a single 'road condition' or 'driving condition' that consistently triggers the failure. I reported the problem to hyundai in connection with last year's 'stop lamp switch' recall.i had hoped the problems were related - they are not. I have taken the car to the dealer several times (rude and unhelpful is an understatement).i have had the 'stop lamp switch' replaced as part of the recall, and also the 'air bag clockspring' replaced (which i had to pay for), and the steering 're-calibrated'. Since these repairs the eps has failed on a few separate occasions, and i have taken it to the mechanic twice more, and no one can figure out why the eps is just shutting down. This is a serious and potentially fatal design flaw. I would just like to know what the issue is and how to solve it.by now hyundai has to know this widespread problem.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving at approximately 20 mph and making a turn, a loud knocking noise emitted from the steering wheel. The failure occurred when driving and became progressively worse. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 51,000.

My 2010 hyundai elantra's steering wheel started clicking. Shortly thereafter the eps light turns on. I was working and could not take it in. I made an appointment a few days later and on my way my car started locking while steering almost causing me to hit a parked car. My dealership told me nothing is covered. I have read numerous complaints about the same issue.

Electronic power steering gets disabled while driving and steering becomes very hard when it happens. It happened three times recently and concerned with the safely of driving this vehicle. This seems to be associated with the recall nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000... But my vin number is not listed as the affected vehicle. It is highly likely that the issue is also related to the recall. Need your help to resolve the same.

Was driving on freeway and eps light came on and electronic steering went out. Car became impossible to turn.i was able to make it to the left shoulder of the freeway.after stopping the car and turning it back on, the vehicle operated fine until 5 months later.then it happened again.finally on june 30, 2013, it happened a third time. I have researched this and have found it to be a common problem and one of safety.hyundai refused to fix it.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise and the eps warning light illumianted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the lower steering coupler needed to be replaced. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering) but the dealer indicated that the required repair was in addition to the software update recall repair that was performed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

Eps light comes on and the power steering would shut off. This happen about four times and i ableto shut the car off, restart and drive. The last time i wason the highway and it happen again.luckily i was able to get to the side of the road and restarted the car.first time at the dealer, they said it was just a computer up-grade for $98. One week later it happen again.this time the dealer is telling me the steering column need to be replaced because of a senor for$2,500 plus.what's going on with this? i see on the internet i'm not the first. Why has there been no re-call if this such an issue that could result in an crash or someone getting killed.it can be a good thing if i lose steering on a highway in the middle of a rush-hour?

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While parking in a parking lot, the steering wheel was turned to the right and the vehicle failed to move when the accelerator pedal was depressed. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 150,000.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving approximately 35 mph, the steering wheel inadvertently shook violently and became difficult to maneuver. The failure recurred a few times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.

I took my 2010 hyundai elantra in because the eps light was on and the power steering was not functional.at that time they inspected it and also replaced the stop lamp switch from a previous recall.the power steering had gone out once prior but resolved itself and i had not brought it in.when i did bring it in on 5/ 14/14 there was no service performed to resolve the issue.i brought it in again on 6/2/14 because again the eps light was on and the power steering was non-functional.my car was only 8,000 miles outside the warranty and in spite of research on the nhtsa website i paid out of pocket for the repair which was quite costly.this is not a wear-and-tear issue it is a product defect.as evidenced by other manufacturers using the same part/technology and issuing recalls. The malfunction was intermittent and could have caused a very serious accident.

The steering wheel feels lose

20 january 2018- today the eps warning light came on in my car while driving. Steering is okay for now, but has been clunking off and on for some time. I was told this is a coupler wearing but not a safety issue. My car manufacture date is may 07 2010. May 04 2015 i had 60000 service done. Campaign931 was performed as eps s/w check and ecu upgrade only. My manufacture date is one week older than the last manufacture date on the recall. Did the date range expand? is my vehicle included in a larger count? am i eligible for a replacement?

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving in reverse, the steering wheel seized and the power steering warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the eps control unit needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering); however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

Rubber coupling failure in the motor driven power steering (mdps) assemblya $2 part with a $350 labor bill.safety inspection station says this is a safety issue which may result in failure to pass inspection. Hyundai nevertheless maintains that it is not a safety issue (in an obvious attempt to prevent a recall). The part has failed just beyond warranty coverage. I'm soliciting guidance on how to cover repair costs for a poorly designed part that should be under recall and covered by the manufacturer.manufacturer's link to problem:https://autoservice.hyundaiusa.com/txx7/micrositetemplate/micrositetemplatevinvalidate/2688

I'm having the same problem as hundreds of people have had the two dollar part with very high labor cost. There was a recall in 2015 problem was obviously miss diagnosis it is the steering coupling. It can cause a lost if control of the vehicle. I was a total case specialist for kia consumer affairs the company should be taking car of a lot of issues that they tell customers it out of warranty or you missed a oil change so the warranty is void. I took several if the calls that vehicle caught fire. Nhtsa you should be for consumers you hear the same complaint over and over from owners of kia and hyundai . Most of there cars are crap i got the same calls for the same issues over and over

The steering column fell into my lap when i was parking the car in my driveway. My repair shop told me that all the screws holding it in place had come loose.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While the contact's daughter was driving the vehicle, the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that there was abnormal movement in the steering wheel. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering); however, the failure recurred almost a year later. The vehicle was taken to rockland hyundai (located at 55 ny-303, west nyack, ny 10994, (845) 402-8623) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the electronic power steering module and steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

I bought a brand new 2010 elantra.i soon noticed that the car was pulling to the right, and very soon it started pulling hard to the right. I took it in to have it aligned. It still pulled right but it was much better.soon it started pulling again, this time at higher rates of speed, 65-70 mph.(before it was at slower rates of speed(25 to 45 mph?).again, i took it to be aligned at the dealership.they said they checked tire pressure, rotated tires, and checked alignment and everything checked out within spec. I drove home with an "in-spec" car that still pulled right.it eventually got worse with a harder pull to the right, so i took it to another hyundai dealership, who checked it out and confirmed it was out of alignment.they did an alignment, and the car drove with great improvement, but it still had a slight pull to the right.i drove it for a time with the slight pull, but it gradually continued to get worse, so i took it in again to this same dealership.they again confirmed it was out of alignment, and aligned the car.i drove the car home and it still had a slight pull to the right.two weeks later, i took the car to an outside source to have it checked out, and they confirmed that there was still a pull to the right, and that the steering was off as well. I will be making yet another appointment at the dealership where i bought the car to have it aligned.i have owned the car approximately 8 months and have had it aligned 5 times so far.right now it pulls so hard right i have to grip the steering wheel when at highway speeds to keep car from swerving out of the lane.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving 40 mph, the electronic power steering (eps) indicator illuminated without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power steering completely. The contact turned off the vehicle and restarted it to correct the failure. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. Herb connolly hyundai in framingham, massachusetts 01702 was made aware of the failure and stated that the eps motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the repair for nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering) had already been performed on the vehicle and was no longer active. The failure mileage was 10,650.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving 50 mph, the power steering indicator illuminated. The contact had not experienced any steering issues, but was afraid that he would. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.

I experienced a crash with this vehicle when the steering failed (as indicated in the recall notice nhtsa code 15v100000).i communicated this failure to hyundai at the time this occurred but they denied that there was any issue with the steering.hyundai has subsequently acknowledged this problem with a formal recall notice.their failure to address this when notified of this problem is an example of product negligence.

Steering wheel clicks when driving turning left or turning right or going straight

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving 10 mph, the power steering failed and the eps warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The failure occurred five additional times after the recall service. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was unknown.

Recently, the power steering failed while driving few times. It happened also while starting the car. The eps light went on and the steering column wouldn't budge. I turn the car off andback on again, the power steering worked until it fails on road! i looking online and saw recall # 127 along with thousands of complaints and accidents service manager said that there was a steering column 'software update' recall in 2015 done. I had no issue then. I got message yesterday sayingit will cost me about $3,500 to have 'burnt out' steering column fix. The steering column is burn out because it fails. This is such a clear case of major malfunction, evidenced by your 2015 'software update' recall and the thousands of online complaints, accidents and highway safety involvement, that i am stunned and dismayed that hyundai won't repair it.i am asking you to please consider having the entire steering column repaired at hyundai expense. I rarely drive the car and when i do, i am so light on it. I simply cannot afford to purchase a car at this time and refuse to pay that kind of money to repair that, which is it the fault of the manufacture. Please consider my request.car at myrtle beach hyundai 1887 highway 501myrtle beachsc29577

This car has a defect in steering column that is well known to hyundai, the defect is caused by a substandard rubber bushingthat has deteriorated and fallen out of a universal joint in steering mechanism, each time the steering is turned either way there is play and a clunking noise,i don't know if it has caused any accidents or not but any defect in steering is something all drivers should be concerned about,as for myself i'm always concerned when driving knowing that something is missing from steering mechanism

Eps light is on.recall #127 and #110 only updated eps software when if fact the steering column assembly needs replaced on over 300,000 cars recalled from 2008-2010.my car was taken to dealer on 5/7/2019 and eps software updated only!!!!case no. 15684240.manufacturer needs to do another recall for safety reasons and safe lives!!!peoples power steering is being lost.please read all complaints on the internet and contact corporate at hyundai.car has 97,000miles on it.eps software updated on 5/7/2015 with 79,000 miles.hyundai should be responsible for repairing all steering column assembly, not the consumer at over $2,400.before i purchased this car, i checked vin and no open recalls.i would not have bought this car if i knew over 300,000 vehicles were involved and hyundai would not fix!!!this is a safety issue for everyone involved.

Just starting getting a big problem with the steering making noise in steering wheels .. And it get worse .. Seat belt keeps unclicking

I took my car in for servicefor recall 127 on 4/24/2020.the recall was to fix the steering failure.after the recall work was completed, my steering has gotten worse. It is hard to steer at highway speeds, gets in a stuck position going straight which requires effort to "unstick"and then you over steer.at slow speeds backing out and turning out of my carport the steering is way too tight, there is definitely something malfunctioning this is still an issue and another recall needs to issued. I contacted hyundai and they didn't seem very concerned.

Recall steering is clicking and control of car is hard during low speed and high speed

Had been driving to store and when i started it up again the eps light was red.

On july 15th i attempted to start my car and the esc light and the electronic power steering light both came on. I was not able to steer the car.i called my mechanic and the car was taken to the shop.it was found that the computer code for the eps was not in the system.the car had not been drive for about a week. The mechanic was able to reprogram the system.the following day i again attempted to drive the car and the same lights (esc and eps) came on. I was informed that the power steering column had to be replaced. I see no reason the power steering should need to be replaced on a car that in 5 years old and has been properlymaintained.

Driving on the freeway inoticed that the red eps come on ,at first i didnt notice anything then imade a lane change and found the steering was very difficult to control i struggled to park the car it took everything i had to turn that wheel around a corner and park it,this seems like a serious safety issueand hopefully it should prompt a hyundai recall.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the electric power steering warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed to call the manufacturer. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 15,200.

I noticed there was a recall back about the time i purchased my car in 2016 there was a recall on the power steering. I was never notified by the dealership there was a recall on this part of my car. I'm having issues with the eps light coming on. This started 4 days ago. Please help.thank you.

I had driven around 2 miles without any issue and was waiting on red traffic light before entering my apartment community. When the light turned green i noticed that eps indicator has turned on and steering wheel is jammed. Thankfully the road ahead was straight and i was able to maneuver the car safely over the curb with extreme difficulty. I tried the sequence of complete stop and start multiple times but it did not resolve the issue. I will be taking the car to the dealer for diagnosis. This is utterly unacceptable failure which has definite potential of resulting into accident.

Eps light recently came on. Took car to the dealer, dealer says that the whole steering column needs replaced. Car currently drives normally, but dealer says that power steering could be lost a any time. Cost for repair is $3500.

In 2016 i took my car in for "sticky" steering, in which the dealer replaced bushings in the steering column.on 5/19/2018, while driving forward at approximately 45 mph, my power steering went out and my eps light came on.i pulled over, turned the car off and back on but it didn't solve the problem.after having a mechanic look at it, was informed they couldn't diagnose it because hyundai has proprietary codes on their eps and abs systems that doesn't allow them to diagnose the problem, forcing me to have to take it to the dealership.not having the funds to have the car towed 20 miles to the nearest dealer, i drove my car with no power steering to the dealer.they informed me that my entire steering column needs to be replaced.my car has 84,000 miles and never been in an accident. Has been well maintained.they can not tell me the reason the entire steering column has to be replaced but that it does at my cost of $2,500!i found the recall of the eps but that is only repaired with a part, not the entire steering column.i have found online hundreds of other people with low mileage elentras having to have their entire steering columns replaced at their cost.hyundai is aware of the issue but doing nothing about it putting their customers in danger.

Was driving down the hwy and had to stop for a stop light as i pulled away the esp light came on turning off my power steering causing me to have to stop and try to pull over toturn car off to reset the esp light so i could turn my car safely i had to do this several times it have to make a 90 degree to turn on my road or off on to the hwy. I took it to the dealer and they said that it was a safety issue but was not on recall the part to fix my car ended up costing me 2100.00 for a part that should have never gone out. I had to replace the whole steering column. For a part that was in the steering column. I contacted hyundai costumer service and they said that my car was out of warranty but i have went on there complains and see that this has been going on for awhile they have complaints for 2009 and up to 2012 i told hyundai that it was not that it was not the warranty i was complain about and that it was a safety issue i then contacted the bbb as instructed to to hear the same thing i thank that this issue needs to be addressed before some one gets hurt it is all ready costing consumers thousand of dollars to fix afterhyundia states that there vehicles are safeit is not safe when you loss your power steering while trying to make a turn a can't turn the steering wheel. I have all the information and e-mails that i communicated with hyundai and the bbb if you need it i can e-mail it to you.

Noise when turn right and left. Also when is driving make a noise under the stering wheel colunm-dash

In february of 2021, i took my hyundai in for several recall services, including 15v100000. || in the following months, my car began to lose power steering capabilities either on ignition or while driving. Losing power steering while driving was extremely dangerous and the risk of an accident was obvious, requiring me to pull off of the road or take an exit several times. The power steering eventually failed entirely on 5/5/2021. || at this point, i ran diagnostic scan that returned the code c1604, with a definition of "ecu hardware error". || i scheduled an appointment with the same dealership that did the recall service and they determined that the issue was that the "power steering has [an] internal failure." this leads me to believe that they are referring to the electric power steering torque sensor, a key component identified in the 15v100000 recall. However, they were unwilling to cover the cost of repair ($2,990 + tax) because i had already completed the recall service.|| investigating online forums (https://www.carproblemzoo.com/hyundai/elantra/2010/steering-problems.php) showed me that there are a considerable number of people having the exact same, often life-threating, issue and are also being told by hyundai that there is no coverage because they had the recall service completed. This is asinine as the issue only occurred for me after their recall service was completed, meaning the service either doesn't avoid or doesn't resolve the issue that lead to the 15v100000 recall in the first place. || as far as i can understand, the torque sensor was faulty as a result of hyundai's manufacturing and the 15v100000 recall did not provide a solution to the problem. It was a false prescription and, in my opinion, the real issue would cost hyundai too much money to fix so they are attempting pull their life-endangering vehicles off of the road by unfairly gouging their own customers.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving approximately 40 mph, the electronic power steering assist indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to len stoler hyundai (11275 reisterstown road, owings mills, md 21117, (410)356-7000) where it was diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 77,000.

Took my 2010 to dealers for clunking noiseeverything seemed fine 2 weeks later the eps light turned on they won't look at it unless i pay 150 for diagnosis prior to this they had a eps recall

Eps light came on, almost lost control while driving. Later i found out about a recall. Steering wheel locked on me. Had to pull to side as much as i can off to the side of the freeway.

The steering wheel makes clicking sounds as it turns, sounds as if something is breaking or already broken inside. I looked up this issue and it appears to be fairly common in many hyundai vehicles. It is,an expensive repair. I believehyundai should cover the cost of repair but apparently based on complaints i've read, they do not. It also appears that this can lead to steering failure if i'm understanding what has been written about this. I can't afford to pay for this repair so i'm hoping it will eventually be a recall. This clicking takes places continually as i drive and turn the steering wheel. I have about 53,000 miles on my car.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving 65 mph, the steering wheel vibrated uncontrollably and the checkengine and air bag warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering). The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not provided. The failure mileage was 135,000.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle became unstable in adverse wind conditions. The contact was not sure of what the wind speeds were that caused the problem, but the vehicle started rocking from side to side while traveling 65 mph. This had also happened when passing trucks in the opposite direction. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and after a test drive; the dealer said nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The contact feels the dealer did not have a problem because at the time the weather conditions were normal. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 12 and the current mileage was 457.

Typo:dated software updated was 5/7/2015 - 79,000 miles - not 5/7/19 (typo on date).see complaint number 11202976.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss power steering. The power steering warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 187,000.

The steering wheel column needs to be replaced makes clicking noise. There was a recall on it back in 2015 not sure if it was replaced then. I was told they cant fix it the recall back from 2015.

I started my car and the eps and esc off lights were illuminated, and i had no power steering. This was the second time this had happened since i purchased my vehicle used in 2011. The first time, shutting the engine off and restarting fixed the problem. I also took the car into the dealer at the time, and they claimed that the fix was an update to the computer. The issue didn't appear again until may 2014, and this time the power steering failed to work even after multiple restarts. I took it to the dealer and they said the steering column has failed an needs to be replaced, and will cost $2100. Not only does this defective steering column that i have seen multiple citations of in this database present a potentially large expense to hyundai owners outside of their warranty, but a serious safety issue if the steering fails while the car is in motion, as i have seen in other cases. I was lucky it was just in my driveway. I contacted hyundai directly about this, and they couldn't care less, and most certainly wouldn't cover it as a defective part, as i am 12k miles out of my warranty. They are clearly ignoring the safety and reliability concerns of their customers. Buyer beware.

I took the car to the dealer to perform the recall repair for recall 127 nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 in april 2020. The recall required replacement of the power steering motor controller 56300-2h250 with 56310-2h250qqh. In august of 2020, i removed the steering column and inspected the power steering motor controller that is currently in the car. The motor controller is still 56300-2h250, see attached photo. This should have been replaced with the recall, but the dealer did not replace it as per the attached tsb.

A thud is being made that starts when steering and continues through the drive. It started before 100k and hyundai dealership didn't know cause. Now, hyundai admits that there is an issue with the distengrating steering coupling rubber and have campaign txx7 yet because my car is now over 100k (my car is currently 118k and less than 8 years old (i'm only owner) and i discovered it before 100k), they won't stand by their product. I need help please why hyundai fixes my issue.

Driving on the freeway we noticed the red eps light was illuminated. At first we didnt notice anything then we made a lane change and found the steering was very very difficult to control. When we pulled off the freeway that is when it was found that the steering had definitely gone. It took everything i had to turn that wheel around a corner and park it. This seems like a serious safety issue and hopefully it should prompt a hyundai recall.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the power steering assist intermittently failed with an unknown warning light displayed on the instrument panel. The failure occurred at slower speeds at approximately 30 mph. The steering operated manually. The vehicle was pulled over and restarted and regained power steering functionality after several attempts. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering) however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and a case was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.

When driving the car and using the steering, the steering wheel clicks when you turn it any which way.also the steering feels loose & sloppy.it happens every time you drive it.

Eps light came on. Took it to dealer and was told sensor needed to be replaced at a total cost of $2500 approx (replace entire steering column). Car has only 113k. Now i have no power steering. There was a recall to update the eps control unit which my mechanic says is just a patch and not a real fix for the problem. There are numerous complaints about this problem on a lot of hyundai vehicles.my power steering was working intermittently and is now completely off, my car was parked.

Steering wheel makes a clicking noise when speed is low and it is turning weird. Also the seat belt doesnt restrain properly

My 2010 elantra was recalled for defective steering coupler.about 2 months ago the steering collar started to click when the steering wheel was turned.i checked and there was a recall for this.when i went to delray hyundai in delray beach, fl i was told i would have to pay approximately $440 to have the collar replaced.i don't understand why i should pay for a recalled item that just failed the previous week. I feel i should be entitled to a full refund from delray hyundai for the repair. I had no choice in paying since they had the car and i didn't want my wife to drive it in this condition.

The steering column made a knocking sound when turned. You could hear noise when vehicle was stationary and in motion. Took it to dealer and had the flexible coupling (part 56315-2k000-fff) replaced. The service manager said the part was melted and torn up. The car mileage was 79944.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. When the vehicle was started and the contact attempted to turn the steering wheel, there was a knocking sound and a slight hesitation was felt in the steering column. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the eps system was faulty and needed to be repaired and updated. The steering coupling was also faulty and needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering). The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

The hyundai elantra had its steering lock up while driving at a low rate of speed as it was on an approach ramp preparing to merge on to wi state highway 441 in the town of menasha, wi.this caused the car to go into the guardrail since the steering would not respond.the accident occurred at noon on a clear day on dry pavement.witnesses to the accident indicated that the steering did not respond before the vehicle crashed into the guardrail.luckily there were no injuries to the driver other than minor bruises.no other car was involved in the accident.we filed a complaint with hyundai after the incident but they did not come out to examine the car until after it had been repaired.earlier this year we received a notice that this same steering defect was covered by the recall announcement.the car was repaired as part of this recall.hyundai has continued to deny any flaw that could have caused this accident.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the eps indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there were no open recalls on the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 54,798. ...updated 08/08/17 the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired. Updated 08/10/2017

From parked position, i turned the car on but the steering wheel would not move. The eps light was on. The steering would not work in manual mode either, it was completely locked.vehicle was towed to hyundai service where they diagnosed need fornew steering column. (cost $2400!) the car had only about 83,000 miles. The previous steering recall work had been done in 2015 (software problem?) luckily i was not driving at the time this happened. Online i see other drivers who had this problem and it caused a crash.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving various speeds, the steering coupler clicked and hesitated to turn. In addition, the steering wheel made a clunking noise while turning. South bay hyundai (20433 hawthorne blvd, torrance, california 90503) diagnosed that the steering coupler needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

At 59,894 miles the steering column felt very unattached. Went to the dealership and was told that a part had to be replaced. The part was replaced at a cost of $345.10 labor and $10.47 for the part. My husband looked up on the web and found this to be a common failure item and questions were asked hyundai consumers affairs ( case # 9600787) to no avail. My husband ordered the part off ebay and found that the material was not the same that they removed from my car ( they gave me the old part). The new part looked the same as the old one, even had the same number but it was much firmer and more rigid than the original part. I asked hyundai consumers affairs several times if this part were not replaced could it lead to an accident. No reply. Reading on the internet this seems to be a common 60,000 mile problem on this car and several others in the hyundai/ kia corral. I believe that there should never be a steering problem in every car produced by manufacturer for the life of the car and this problem is well documented. The manufacturer should come to a fix that provides safe driving on all its cars for the life of the car which should be more than 60,000 miles. In my 45 years of driving i've never experienced such poor quality which could have dire consequences.sincerely, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

When starting the vehicle, the power steering failed. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to maneuver. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving approximately 25-40 mph, the steering wheel began to shake and the eps warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer who stated that the vehicle was previously included and repaired according to a recall for the power steering. The dealer also stated that the current failure was not associated with the recall despite the eps warning light being illuminated. The dealer diagnosed that the vehicle, but the results were unknown. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who informed the contact that the recall and recent failure of the vehicle were related. The certified mechanic diagnosed that the electronic motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin and nhtsa campaign number were unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 9,000.

Vehicle in motion approximately 73 mph on ny 87s. Eps dash light suddenly illuminated and power steering was lost instantaneously. Pulled over to side of road.

They recalled eps in 2015 and i wasn't notified. Now they told me it was steering column problem and wanted to charge me over $2000 for this. The dealer won't even use the existing extended warranty to fix my car. I am not the only one who has this problem and it is very annoying.

2010 elantra has 37,000 miles. I've had three episodes (one with my 16 year old granddaughter driving) where the power steering goes out while driving at slow speed on city street. No prior incident known to create the condition. Thus far, only way to fix problem is to turn car off and restart. Not very safe. Last time this happened i had struggle to drive the car into a nearby parking lot to safely turn it off and restart.

Steering wheel making a knocking noise every time you turn it

Twice the power steering assist has gone off .once at 20 mph after making a turn in mall parking lot, and once approx 30-35 mph while going straight on a residential street in suburbs. .the vehicle required great effort to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The engine was still running.drivershutoff the engine, then restarted the engine and continued driving without further incident. The events occurred three months apart march and june 2016

My car has a problem with electric power assist system, the same asin recall 15v100000. But my vechile was not included.

The contact was knocked unconscious momentarily and received medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a tow yard. Three months later, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 13v113000 (exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic) and 15v1000 (steering). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and requested information to investigate the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

While driving approx. 30 mph the eps light went on and the power steering went off. I drove the car about a mile to the dealership, where they re-calibrated the sensor.the car operated fine for two days and then the problem occurred again,( although it does reset when the car is restarted).i then took the car back to the dealer, where i was told the sensor needed to be replaced and that was located in the steering column. This is not covered under warranty and is rather costly to fix.

After a routine maintenance, power steering and stability control no longer functioned.dealer said a computer update would likely fix the problem.it did not.they said only solution is to replace whole steering column.part alone is $2200.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse out of a parking space, it became very difficult to steer without warning. The contact stated that he was very concerned for his safety since he believed that he would not be able to control the vehicle if he was to be driving at a higher speed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileage was 5,600.

I noticed when tuning the steering wheel, that it felt like there was a ball rolling back and forth in the steering column and it made a strange soft "thud". I called the dealer and was told it was probably the steering column coupler going bad. I took it to my mechanic who agreed with the diagnosis and he also printed out a technical safety bulletin stating that the coupler is defective and would need to be replaced if a "thud" or "clicking noise" appeared. I was told this was not a safety issue but at the same time i received a recall letter regarding the electronic steering software. The recall states that the computer could get confused and stop the power steering which would result in the manual steering of the vehicle. Since i was out of the 50k mile warranty they would not be able to repair the steering coupler under warranty. It will cost me $260 to get that repaired. The steering software is back ordered and i won't be able to get that fixed until after may 22nd. I feel that the steering coupler issue is dangerous in that i may not be able to steer the vehicle once it finally goes bad. I want to know if this is a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering), but the remedy was insufficient. The dealer (fairfax hyundai, 10925 fairfax blvd, fairfax, va 22030, (703) 352-0444) updated the software and stated that the eps control unit did not need to be replaced. Shortly after the dealer's repair, the eps randomly failed and made it extremely difficult to steer the wheel left and right intermittently. The manufacturer was notified of the failure numerous times and refused to provide a solution. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 14.

The electronic power steering assistance has disabled during driving, making steering extremely difficult. At the time driving was done on city streets and the car was in motion. This has happened 4 times in the past month. One other time, the eps was disabled when i started the car. I drove around the block and stopped, then turned the car off. When i started the car 10 minutes later, the power steering was working again. This was the issue covered in the 2015 recall and i had it taken care of by a hyundai dealership service department when i received the recall notice.

My 2010 hyundai elantra was recalled for a problem with the assisted power steering. The problem was addressed by the service department at m.j. Sullivan dealership in new london, ct in april of 2015. Thirteen months later the system failed and the steering is now difficult, especially during attempts to make turns of short radius.presumably other owners of this make, model and year have also experienced the same recurring problem following the 2015 recall. My purpose is contacting you is to bring the problem to your attention, to inquire as to the frequency of failure of the "fix" to the power assisted steering since the 2015 recall, and to ask if a follow-up recall is anticipated.thank you for your interest![xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

No matter moving or stopped the steering has a knock or click. Took it to the service center, the mechanicsaid the alignment is correct. All the front suspension is tight. The sound is from the internal power assist electric motor and this is normal!! i question this because it never did this before.

Eps goes out at low speed. No power steering at all. Acts right after engine restart. This has happened twice in last 2 weeks. Both times in a parking lot. I understand they have a recall on the elantra touring but not the ls, same problem.

Apparently, there was a recall on hyundai cars and i was never notified. I bought my hyundai elantra 2010 in december 2014. The recall was put out in feb 2015. I was never notified by the dealership or anyone for that matter. I have taken my car to the dealership ,multiple times for servicing and no one has ever told me that there was ever a recall on hyundai models. I bought the car from fayetteville nc when i was stationed at fort bragg. I am now in germany. The eps light came on and the steering wheel started getting all wobbly. I took it to 2 german shops and i was told to take it to the hyundai dealership. So i took it in. They told me that there was a recall on hyundais but i miss the deadline and now i have to pay around 4000 euros to get it fixed. So is there a way around this situation? i wasn't notified. Nobody notified me. Is there a way to get around this or get my money back?. The car is currently at the hyundai dealership here in kaiserslautern germany. The shop ordered the parts and waiting for it to arrive so they can start working on the car.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering). While driving at unknown speeds and making turns, the steering wheel pulled to the center. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (specks hyundai of tri cities, 002 n 28th ave, pasco, wa 99301, (509) 542-0234) where it was diagnosed that the steering shaft needed to be adjusted, the steering module needed to be reflashed, and the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The contact stated that there was no steering failure prior to the recall repair. The failure mileage was 95,000.

The rims on my 5 year old car look like it was parked in the ocean they are rusting so bad and this car has never lived north of carolina. I am afraid that this defect is going to cause my wheel to fall off one day. The steering wheel started popping or catching whenever i try to turn the vehicle to the left, but dealership tells me it is not on the recall list, so it will cost $110 just to look at the problem. The driver?s side window is very hard going up or down (makes a load thud when it gets to the top or bottom) and i am afraid it is going to break the glass one of these days. The dashboard is much discolored (that started after only 2 years of owning the car). The interior door handles have the metal wrapping peeling off causing me to cut my hand when i go to open the door. I fear that my car is a ?lemon? and i am very disappointed as this is my second hyundai (bought them both brand new) and this one is a piece of junk ? but the dealership won't help.

With only 44, 434 miles on the car, the steering column had to be replaced.while driving i noticed extreme play in the steering wheel and a noise when it reached the end of a full turn; my mechanic examined it and found a coupling in the column was broken and lubricant was oozing out.he replaced the steering column.

The original steering wheel on this car has been cracking and now is disintegrating in my hands. Slowly but surely it is posing to be an issue with sharp edges which has cut my hand. I believe if this keeps going the skeleton of the steering wheel will be exposed. I am attaching pictures of this. I have talked to hyundai consumer affairs they informed me that there is nothing they can do. I believe this is due to inferior material used in the construction of the steering wheel.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving approximately 40 mph, the power steering assist suddenly malfunctioned and the driver was unable to turn the steering wheel. As a result, the contact's vehicle rear ended a second vehicle before crashing into a utility pole. The air bags did not deploy. The driver sustained chest and neck injuries and the front passenger sustained injuries to the right hand and head. Medical attention was received. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 180,000.

Steering column shakes bad. ...while in motion...city street and highway

On thursday 5/19/2016 while driving to work in the a.m with the slightest movement to the steering wheel i noticed it was making a clicking sound and feels like the steering wheel is catching (forlackof a better term)when the click occurs and you are moving the steering wheel back the other way. Whether moving steering wheel to right or left but not when making a complete turn. I checked on the internet found a lot of complaints for my year and 2011 sonatas with the same problem. It seems to be a coupling in the steering column. I called the dealership i use and was told by the warranty administrator they know all about the problem but the repair wont be covered under warranty since i am out of basic. I asked if it is dangerous and was assured that is is just noisy.

The contact took the vehicle to nemet hyundai (144-02 hillside avenue, jamaica, ny 11435, (718) 523-5858) to be diagnosed, but no failure was found. The light was deactivated and the vehicle was returned to the contact. The indicator illuminated again. The eps light is on at 135,000 miles.the steering makes a clicking noise every time you move the wheel .havent gotten in contact with hyundai as of today, but will be writing to them to see if there is anything that they are willing to do before something happens and the steering freezes, as that sounds like the case with other folks

Power steering just stopped working and ecu light came on.

It is an outrage that hyundai does not respond to this issue and that nhtsa is letting them get away with it. There is a small plastic item which sells for about $6 on amazon which is failing on a huge number of hyundai vehicles. I am referring to the steering coupler. It is causing a clicking when turning the steering wheel whether the vehicle is moving or not.if not addressed in a timely manner, apparently this can lead to steering failure. I believe kia waived the 100,000 mile limitation on the replacement of this item, hyundai refuses to do so. It is labor intensive, requiring the removal of the steering system and dealers charge hundreds of dollars to do the job. My local dealership's service department agreed that since this part's failure is so common, nhtsa ought to come in and force hyundai to fix it in all their vehicles, even if they have over 100,000 miles on them.

The steering column contains a hard plastic "coupler" as part of the power steering motor.that hard plastic deteriorates over the course of 5 or 6 years and, when it fails, the driver will lose the ability to steer the car. Although this part on my car has notyet failed, i cannot afford the $499 that the dealer wants to charge to make this repair. I feel this should be a safety recall item.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the electrical power steering warning light illuminated and quickly disappeared. Over time, the vehicle became difficult to steer due to loss of power steering assist while driving. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. The contact linked the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering). A dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

It seems there are many others with this problem so i will keep it brief. My car has 150000 on it. There is a clicking in the steering wheel and the eps. The clicking happens when driving or parked. At all times. I went into a dealership and was told i need a new steering rack. The repair cost more than the car's value. I went in to have repairs for recalls in 2018. I'm wondering if they actually fixed it because the eps was one of the issues.

My daughter was driving in a rain storm and lost her power steering. The eps (electronic power steering) light illuminated. She was lucky she didn't get into an accident. She pulled over to the shoulder, turned her car off, then started it again. The eps light went out and the power steering was again working. I performed an internet search and found numerous complaints concerning the hyundai eps system. This is a serious safety hazard and a recall should be issued immediately to correct the problem.

I have a 2010 elantra 4dsd 2.0 102,000 milesi have had no major issues with the car until about 3 months ago. Suddenly the eps light came on and i lost power steering. Upon pulling over and restarting the car the problem went away. I went about a week, and suddenly it did it again. Restarted car, went away, still does this intermittently.2 days ago, eps light was one and was not able to remove the light using the method above.also, my power steering wheel is so stiff.i took it to the dealer today, they found the following codes:eps - electronic power - c1290 - torque sensor main signal faulteps - electronic power - c1604ecu(brake system) hardware errorthey told me i would need a new steering column ($2500+). This seems a bit strange to me for an intermittent issue.per google check @ http://www.carproblemzoo.com/hyundai/elantra/steering-problems.php, this elantra steering issue is a constant issue for many years.what can nhtsa do to help americans owning hyundai cars having this problem?

The eps light keeps coming on. Took it to the dealer 3 days ago. They said it just needed to be reset. Came back on today and no power steering. But no recall on this car. Really concerned something bad will happen while driving it.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the steering column functioned abnormally and made an abnormal noise. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was brought to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a flexible coupler. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000. The vin was not provided.

On saturday june 15 my eps came on. I looked it up and says there is a recall on the steering. Today june 17 i called hyuandai and they tell me there is no recall. I would recommend all 2010 elantras get looked at for a recall on the steering. I wouldn't recommend driving the car very far till you get it checked out. I started the car when the light came on saturday

Like several other complaints, the eps light came on and the power steering shut down, making the car extremely difficult to control.the dealer calibrated the eps with a software update for a charge of approximately $100.things worked fine for a week, during which time the car was driven about 500 miles, but then the same problem recurred.the car was out of warranty by 8,000 miles but was still within the five year warranty time by several months.the dealer informed hyundai of the situation, and they approved a "goodwill repair" under the warranty, which consisted of recalibrating and replacing the steering column assembly at no additional cost, which would have ordinarily had a charge of around $2,000.i have delayed reporting this for several months to be certain the repair lasted for a significant length of time.i also wanted to report, unlike most of the other complaints, a relatively satisfactory remediation of this serious problem by our dealer and hyundai.nevertheless this problem looks to be common enough and certainly is serious enough that it should have had an official safety recall.

The clear coat began to peel away on my car and then the paint started peeling. It looks terrible andwhen i went to trade in for a new model i was told the paint drastically lowers the value and puts the car in "poor" condition. This is very embarrassing having to explain over and over why the car looks so bad. As you can see in the pictures it is only the hood and getting worse over the past several months. The rest of the car has not been affected i took it to a local paint shop who suggested i take it to the dealership since it appears to be defective clear coat used on the original paint job. I took it to the dealership and was informed there is no recall on it but says it is a "common complaint".i just want the hood fixed, i use this car for business.

Hyundai elantra spontaneously burst into flames while parked in our driveway. It had been 6 hours since it was last driven.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the trunk popped open suddenly and independently. The failure recurred over fifteen times. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer several times and each time the dealer stated that they could not determine a problem with the latch. In addition, the contact stated that the battery failed twice.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 119 and the current mileage was 13,500.

The plastic chrome on the inside passenger door handle is "delaminated" and a razor sharp edge is exposed.when i reached across the seat (from the drivers side) to open to passenger door, the sharp edge deeply cut my finger which had to have pressure for about three hours before it would stop bleeding.this car only has 27k miles and rarely sees someone in the passenger seat so this is not due to extensive use as stated in previous recalls for this problem.if the problem was identified and recalled in 2009 then why is it still a problem in 2014?this car was in for service and a non-related warranty fix last month and nothing was said about this problem (and subsequently, the dealer was not inspecting for this problem).

Rear passenger side door cannot be opened from the outside or inside when exterior temperatures soar. A door component seems to swell.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while exiting the vehicle, she sustained lacerations to the fingers from the driver's side door handle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 75,000.

In february 2014 a friend tried to enter the car and the door handle pulled off in her hand. The door was not locked while she was trying to open it. The car had approx. 31,000 miles on it. This was a front door handle. On april 20, 2015 (the car has less than 45,000 miles on it) my daughter went to remove her child from the rear car seat. The door was not locked and the rear door handle pulled off in her hand.i have been watching the news were someone is pulling a passenger out of a burning car after an accident often. If the door handle would have pulled off during these incidents, the driver or passengers would have been burnt alive.

The hood latch is incredibly rusty and now is stuck in the open position. The hood is no longer properly latching closed which could cause it to fly open while driving. When closed it sounds like it has locked but upon closer examination it is not latching. I noticed this problem a while back but with some effort was able to engage the latch. Now i am no longer able to correct the error and i'll have to get it replaced.

Back seat door behind driver will not open or shut.the door handle becomes stuck. This door hasn't been used much so this isn't normal wear and tear and should be a recall.this is a major safety issue as we can't access the door for my child.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle would pull violently to the left or right while driving. In addition, the contact stated that he would get shocked whenever he would open the doors. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure but decided to performed an alignment to temporarily remedy the problem. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 0 and the current mileage was 14,000.

The door handle cuts my finger when opening my door, from the driver's seat.

The metallic covering on both front inner door handles has rippled and started peeling. The metallic sheet covering both handles is very sharp and has caused me to slice my hands/fingers multiple times as i attempt to open the door. It's sturdy enough that it is difficult to just peel off, so i am constantly being cut by my handles and am worried this may soon happen to my passenger(s) and/or children.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving 20 mph the contact stated that the trunk lift gate came open. The contact was forced to immediately stop in the street and closed the lift gate. The failure occurred for at least 6 months. The failure happened intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least four times and they replaced an electrical component which the contact could not identify. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000 and the current mileage was 10,400.

All of a sudden all 4 sway bars need be replaced

The car creaks when you go at a slow speed or over a hump.the steering wheel also makes a clicking or knocking sound when steering it and when you turn the car to the left or right it makes a creaking noise.when you get out of the car, it seems that it creaks once the weight is lifted.the creaking is either when stationary or when going at a low speed over humps and when turning the wheel.when driving at normal speed or doing the speed limit, you don't hear the creaking, but the steering wheel still knocks.and when putting on brakes after normal speed, the steering wheel knocks badly.

I was driving toward the bon ton , shopping center in carlisle, pa.it was pulling left and right, it appeared to be fighting me in steering.

I took delivery of the brand new car & about a mile down the road i noticed prominent bounces after the car would go over bump in the road when the car was decelerating to a traffic light.i felt a total of three bounces with the first being the largest, second half of first, third half of second, & fourth couldn't be felt. It was bumper to bumper traffic & going light to light. The bumps were raise sections of the road affecting all four tires. The bumps were not potholes. I emailed my salesperson the next business day of the problem with no response. My main concern is highway driving. One stretch of highway has cement slabs in an undulating pattern that i have driven over daily for a very long time at many different speeds & in many different driving conditions. My previous car would react by rumbling up & down. That sensation was constant over the years at any speed & driving condition.once i cleared that section of the bad highway, my car would immediately stop.the first time i went over that same stretch of highway in my new car at an est. 60-65 mph, the car begin to oscillate harmonically (bounce rhythmically) & continued to harmonically oscillate (bounce) once i cleared that bad section of the highway for an additional minute. I estimated the total time at two minutes. The harmonic oscillation felt very consistent over that two minute stretch. Once i went over another bump the oscillation went stopped. The struts are supposed to dampen the oscillations. I brought it into the service department. The mechanic test drove it & said the suspension felt firm. The suspension checked out ok (nonumbers given). It has a sport tuned suspension & was suppose to do this. The mechanic didn't drive the bad section of the highway because it was too far away. I will try to resolve this matter with the hyundai's field service engineer.

Water leaks from windshield area into behind dashboard and accumulates on floor mats(front area). Front right wheel scraping noise. Already replaced tire, premature tire failure. Heater control lights turns off.

Tire blew into shred's causing vehicle to hit curb and me trying to swerve to avoid it couldn't turn the wheel fast enough $10,100 later in damages at my own insurance cost a hurt shoulder that i can't do anything about.

I received a letter from hyundai regarding my 2010 hyundai elantra. A recall relay in the vehicles main junction box. For the anti- lock brake system. It was recall feb 2020.received the letter april 6,2020. They waited to long to send the letter.

Inside door opening handle on driver side metal covering is peeling off and is sharp.

Car stalls while driving on both highway and side streets. Won't start up right away. Each time it happened it took longer and longer for it to start.

Whenever i turn on the a/c (summer) or heater (winter) a really bad odor comes out from the vents.odor smells like mold, mildew and causes me to cough and get bad headaches.i have changed the cabin filter thinking it was it but odor persists when the a/c, heater or fan are being used.i have had it for 1 year and it has not gone away and actually gotten worse.

When turning the car off and removing keys, it doesn't turn completely off.i have to put the keys back into the ignition, turn on and remove again roughly to make the car turn off. This has been happening for a few months.

April 1st 2014 at aprox. 9:15am while performing an emergency acceleration in a 2010 hyundai elantra se with aprox.103000 miles car became stuck accelerating and continued to do once foot was lifted from both pedals. Brakes were effective at slowing vehicle but engine continued to accelerate at full throttle. Tapping accelerator was tried and was ineffective. Car was shifted by operator into neutral and red-lined on rpm. Operator slammed accelerator peddle to floor again and unintended acceleration stopped and car returned to normal function. No cruise control was being used, no hazard warning symbols came on. Car was shifted back to drive and no accident or injury occurred. Car accelerated to aprox 70mph under these conditions. Car was brought to a hyundai dealer for service a few hrs later who noted and showed customer how oem floor mats when properly installed can pop up and trap accelerator peddle down if accelerator peddle is forced to floor rapidly. Dealer was able to duplicate issue and removed floor mat from mounting on floor and left loose in driver's foot area. Customer put floor mat in back seat to avoid issues.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. While driving with the cruise control activated at approximately 65 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and pressed the off button for the cruise control to deactivate yet the cruise control would not deactivate. The contact stated that the vehicle crashed into a metal guardrail and the vehicle stopped fifty feet from the guard rail.the contact was uninjured and a police report was filed for the incident.the vehicle was towed to the dealer for body damage repairs. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. The manufacturer was unable to provide further assistance but informed the contact that the vehicle was not equipped with a crash box. The approximate failure mileage was 9,700.

As the brakes were applied when slowly (<10 miles/hr) turning into a parking place in a parking lot of a strip mall perpendicular to the side walks (double sidewalk separated by a railing)in front ofthe stores, the car suddenly accelerated thru the parking space and up on the first sidewalk (it did not respond to the brake pedal pressure to slow) and knocked down the railing separating the first and second side walks. The driver pulled up on the handbrake to stop the car before it crossed the second side walk and crashed into the barbershop thus preventing further damage and no injury.

While inching into my garage with my foot not on the gas, my 2010 hyundai elantra suddenly and unexpectedly accelerated and ran into my garages back wallbefore i could break.

When the cruise control was set between 40 and 50mph instead of being set at that speed/mph the car kept accelerating to 70mph, only when i applied the brakes did it slow down.this happened 5 times in the past week, and i tested it out and it happens maybe 5% of the time but not in any random increment.

The car revving when the cruise control is on and pushing on the breaks then not being able to put the car in reverse or park. I had to use the shift lock release to just be able to get it into park after that.

No aftermarket parts used on car. While making a turn onto a bypass, vehicle lunged forward faster than speed applied and then resumed normal.has happened intermittenly while driving 30 to 40 miles an hour other times.does not happen often.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while entering a residential driveway at 5 mph. The brake pedal was depressed yet the vehicle accelerated abnormally and the contact crashed into a ditch. The contact stated that the air bags did not deploy and no one was injured. The vehicle was not destroyed and was neither inspected nor repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 11,500.

2010 hyundai elantra (rented). Consumer wanted to know were there any recalls issued related to defects in the steering, accelerator problems, suspension problems or brake problems *tgwthe consumer stated he was involved in an accident, which caused him to crash. Updated 01/15/13the consumer stated the vehicle swerved to the left, which caused him to strike a pole. The consumer then crossed the median, and struck another vehicle, killing the other driver.updated 01/28/13updated 02/07/13updated 12/23/13the consumer stated the cruise control was set at 42 mph. When the vehicle swerved, he hit the brake, but the cruise control did not disengaged, instead the vehicle increased in speed. Updated 07/07/14updated 09/24/14

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra.the contact stated that the vehicle abnormally accelerated with the brakes applied. The contact was unable to regain control of the vehicle and crashed into a port-a-potty.the contact was injured and a police report was filed of the incident.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and the current mileage was 6,000.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle could not be stopped even when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was able to be stopped and parked when the emergency brake was applied. The vehicle was restarted and operated as normal. The failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

Water leaks from windshield area into behind dashboard and accumulates on floor mats(front area). Front right wheel scraping noise. Already replaced tire, premature tire failure. Heater control lights turns off.

Door handle defective. Mirror defective

While driving i went to dim the rear view mirror because someone had their brights on me and the rear view mirror fell off.it shocked me and so when i pulled over to look at exactly what happened i noticed that it was not the adhesive to just wear off, a chunk of the glass came off with the rear view mirror.there is currentlya hole in my windshield, it is not all the way through but a mechanic said if i even hit a pothole too hard the windshield can shatter.i am not the hulk and can't rip apart glass so the only thing i can think of is that this is a serious manufacturer defect.the dealership i bought the car from are unable to see me tomorrow and i really hope that this can be resolved. Thank you.

At 36,000 miles i needed all new brakes and rotors and the 2 front tires were completely worn to extreme unsafe condition. Spent over $680 to repair it all.

Tire blew into shred's causing vehicle to hit curb and me trying to swerve to avoid it couldn't turn the wheel fast enough $10,100 later in damages at my own insurance cost a hurt shoulder that i can't do anything about.
