My 2008 hyundai elantra has the airbags light on for about few years. I also have a problem on my car that is recently starting to have problems starting up. It has tune up, new sensors, new coils, and etc. I bought a fuel pump oem andthe pump is not 2 years old.

Takata recall.driver lost control of the car and over corrected and hit a tree which pushed her into another tree.the front end of the car was wrecked and the air bags did not deploy.we were never contacted about the recall on the car so we had no knowledge that the air bags were defective.

On may 26 2008 my wife and i were involved in an accident. Another car ran the red light and hit us. My wife and i were injured and our car was totaled. None of the airbags went off on our brand new 2008 hyundai elantra. We were later told by hyundai that passenger airbags don't always go off because of weight variations in some adults. My wife is 5' 4" and her weight is normal for her height. Hyundai never told us of this potential problem with airbag deployment. This company should be required to inform the potential buyer limitations involving safety features! many unsuspecting people could be severely injured without this knowledge. Also this information should be given to the potential buyer prior to purchasing the vehicle not after!we purchases a second hyundai ( 2008 tucson) and this vehicle has had problems with its passenger airbag - in fact it was during this repair that hyundai informed us of the weight issue involving airbags. Updated 01-26-09 updated 01/2609. Updated 07/16/10.

Traveling down a dirt road at approximately 30mph.both front airbags deployed.

Driving down the road & air bag light came on & stayed on, bills auto repair diagnosed the issue and said the airbag computer needs replaced for $1,459, dealer not yet notified.

There was no particular incident related to a crash. Twice since 10/08 the dashboard airbag light has gone on for no reason and would not go off. The hyundai dealer said the first time that the wiring was loose from the time of installation most likely, and they tightened the wires. Second incident was 2 weeks ago. This time they tell us we have a faulty harness and it needs to be replaced. We are still waiting for the part which is supposedly on manufacturer backorder. They tell us the issue is so uncommon that they have not seen it before. Just doing a search online i see the recent recall for similar airbag issues on the 01-02 elantras, so this makes me nervous. Please please investigate this issue with the 08s as well! this is our only car and i do not feel safe driving it, especially while waiting for the new harness..but in the long run i worry about future failures if an accident did occur.

Driver was doing about 50 mph. Car coming in opposite direction decided to do a u turn in front of driver and hit front of car. Airbags did not go off which was odd.hyundai have been contacted and expect us to keep the car for around 2 months and not get it fixed until they get around to looking at it. This is obviously a delaying technique and they are very anxious to cancel the open ticket. Aaa want to get the car fixed (which is understandable as they are paying for rental car) and need to move on. Having done some investigation online, it looks evident that there are have been a number of 2008 hyundai elantra cars with airbags that have not worked in several road accidents.

Driver pulled car out of driveway, drove down block about 40-50 foot, turned car around and pulled up in front of residence, put car in park and driver's air bag deployed. There was no "crash", no potholes on street, no ruts in driveway he turned around in.car was towed to dealer and they claim the computer showed car suffered impact.they also stated car had some marks underneath.if they are claiming the incident was the result of hitting a pothole, wouldn't the air bag have deployed at impact not 3-5 minutes later when car was put in park? also, ironically, this vehicle was brought to the dealer 5 days earlier for the recall repair for the air bag.there were no problems with this vehicle prior to the recall work and the incident.we live on a small dead end street with no potholes and there are no ruts or potholes in front of our house.two neighbors witnessed the incident.the dealer offered up that since the computer says there was impact, they will do nothing for us.they state the recall repair had nothing to do with the air bag deploying when it did.i contacted my insurance company and they sent someone to look at the vehicle.their report states that there are some marks underneath which my local mechanic says most cars that drive on our roads display.the insurance company found no damage to the frame, the radiator or anything else.the cost of fixing the car is estimated at $1793.50.i have a $500.00 deductible and i had to rent a vehicle at my own cost.my husband, thank god, suffered no major injuries.we are terrified to get back in this car.i tote around my grandchildren in this vehicle.i am hoping you can look into this.i would hate for anyone else to go through something like this and maybe not be so lucky as my husband was.

While on vacation in michigan, my spouse and i were hit by a drunk driver. We were traveling north bound on us 127 at 35mph, crossing over addison rd (in the town of addison) when the other driver crossed the road hitting us. On 8/16/16 at approximately 1130 hours the aforementioned 2008 hyundai elantra bearing a vin number of [xxx], had spontaneously caught on fire withoutcause. Local fire department came to the scene and extinguish the flames suspected it to be a manufacturers defect of possible faulty electrical wiring. I have contacted hyundai directly and brought to their attention the incident in which occurred on the said date. Hyundai is still in the process of having a third party vehicle inspection company en route to conduct the preliminary investigation. There has only been a recall to my knowledge in 2011 in which i personally took the said vehicle to hyundai of welsey chapel florida and never had a problem since. It should be noted the vehicle was parked for approximately 3 hours before it caught on fire. I am aware of the past recalls conducted by hyundai due to the possibility of engine fires and feel as thought my vehicle is one of the vehicles affected my the negligence in the manufacturers end. I urge and plead you to look into this matter as my only means of transportation has been totaled due to the bizarre fire.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Car caught on fire in the middle of the night, while parked on my driveway the entire day. Fire department said the cause of fire is unknown but it appeared to have start at the left side of the hood.

While driving home on the highway after a rainy day, the abs light and parking brake lights came on. I checked the parking brake; it was not engaged. The car seemed to be braking on its own as i continued to drive. Upon arriving home, there was some smoke coming from the left front wheel which, after it dissipated, i assumed to be hot, locked up brakes. About an hour later my housemate called to me from the living room telling me my car was on fire and to call 9-1-1. The car was parked in front of my house, under a magnolia tree. The flames engulfed the entire front end of the car, and were about 4-5ft high. The fire department came and hosed the car down, taking about an hour to put out the blaze. The front tires were flat, had melted, and the entire front end was decimated. The drivers side of the windshield had shattered from the fire, and the drivers side floorboard had burned through to the cabin. The entire cabin is damaged from the smoke, the drivers side visor melted through. While there is damage to the entire front end, the drivers side is worse, and the drivers side of the engine compartment appears to have the most damage. There is no visible fuse box or battery after the fire.

Multiple electrical failures for unknown reasons. Car has required multiple jumps because of drained battery, both battery and alternator tested within normal ranges and dealer could not find source of issue. Seems to occur after episodes of heavy weather, radio also dies completely and not fuse related. Lights (day/night) burn out periodically at an accelerated rate. Bought car brand new in 2008.

After sitting for 43 hours in our driveway the 2008 hyundai elantra caught fire starting on the driver's side of the engine compartment and continued across and through the vehicle.it should be noted the vehicle had a smoking issue in the compartment a month previous and was taken to the hyundai shop and a repair estimate provided that included the master cylinder and the antilock brake system.at that time when the smoke incident happened the antilock system engaged and the brake pedal went to the floor.i observed where the smoke was coming from and pointed at the abs block to the service manager.vehicle went back into use and i ordered parts.installed master cylinder but abs parts did not arrive before vehicle immolated itself.in the 43 hour non use gap, the vehicle did not have the remote entry fob used nor any key entry.fire department put the cause as being an electrical fire.

When i am driving the vehicle all of a sudden it will jump back really fast and the check engine will go on andif i continue to drive the vehicle it seems like i'm putting pressure on the gas for it to go but then once i turn off the vehicle the check engine light will all of a sudden be gone. If i drive the vehicle again the problem won't happen right away it will be some time before it happens again all of a sudden.

While driving my vehicle i was told my another motorist that my brake lights were not working. I checked the fuse and the bulbs. The factory radio in the car stopped working properly. The auxiliary port does not work and the display on the radio is not working. I have not had this repaired yet, the local hyundai said that this is a recurring problem but there are no recalls therefore it will be at my own expense.

Whle driving 2 times down the highway with the cruise control set at 65 miles per hour my cruise control reset itself to over 75 miles by itself. Then a few days ago while parked in a driveway, my lights came on, the cruise control light came on by itself and the cruise control set button came on which only comes on when you are driving and you set it to cruise.

My husband and i bought 2 brand new 2008 hyundai elantra gls pzev engines on june 6, 2008. On july 2, 2008 with less than 400 miles on my husband's car he stopped in the middle of a highway going 55 miles an hour and because of him being in the left hand land there ended up a 3 car accident. My husband did not get hit, but in order to avoid him a car swerved, got rear-ended and pushed into an 18 wheeler on rte 24 in millburn nj.there is a police report because of this. It turns out hyundai know there is a fuel pump problem. Our service manager told us after road side assistant towed my husband's elantra up from nj to goshen ny.the service manager also said hyundai is aware of this problem but are not ordering a recall to have the 2008 fuel pumps changed. We called hyundai to find out why there is no recall and they said our service manager was lying about the fuel pumps. But at the same time they said korea stopped making the fuel pumps and are re-designing a new one. To date they have no idea when the fuel pumps will be shipped from korea.but they are still denying there is a problem. If you go to www.edmunds.com and then click on carspace discussion and type in 2008 hyundai elantra you will see people are getting stranded all over the us.hyundai can't fix the problem but yet they are leaving these unsafe cars on the road. We had ours less than a month. My service manager said the fuel pumps are going from 5 miles to 1500 miles and that hyundai does not fix them till they go. My husband was almost killed on july 2, 2008 due to the fuel pump. I have less than 200 miles on my car and any day my car too can have the same thing happen. Please do something. Hyundai won't. All they do si tow you to your hometown and our nearest dealer because they know there is a problem.we have a police report showing my husband's car just stopped and it is the fuel pump and it is not only happening to us, it is a major problem with the 2008 hyundai elantra's.

On the morning of april 16th, my 2008 hyundai elantra (84000 miles) started making an unusual sound from the rear right. At roughly the same time, the esc light came on. As i was within miles of a mechanic, i drove the car to the shop to have it put on the lift. Once it was on the lift and the weight was off the suspension, there was a loud metallic noise from the right rear. Upon inspection, the bolt for the right rear upper control arm had sheered, but the control arm itself was frozen in place by rust against the vehicle body. Additional bolts were also frozen in place within the suspension bushings and could not be moved by hand. I called my insurance company, and they recommended the car be towed to a collision shop. When the vehicle was removed from the lift to be towed, the rear passenger side tire collapsed inward against the wheel-well. The vehicle required a flat bed as it could not be towed due to the suspension problem. At the collision shop, it was noted that the majority of the bolts on the rear suspension were rusted, along with the cross-member. The rear cross-member and attached components required replacement. In addition, it was noted the rear driver side tire was misaligned and "badly cupped" despite having been replaced and aligned several months ago.

Traveling 38-40 mph damp road, swerved to miss animal.fish tail, spun approximately 270 degrees; hit tree on passenger side door; broke passenger window. Pushed forward, hit tree in front quarter panel passenger side then again hit tree directly front center of car. Esc did not work (received esc recall when got home from accident); brakes locked up (abs didn't work); neither front or side airbags deployed.car totaled: damage to front bumper; engine hood; front windshield; passenger door; passenger window; front passenger tire bent in towards car.passenger received lacerations from broken glass, driver & passenger received several bumps, bruises, sore necks, sore backs.have another hyundai with intermittent tps light - dealer wont fix... Huge concern with safety!

Vehicle rolled back when in drive, foot brake did not work, emergency break was engaged to stop vehicle movement. Esc light went on. Brought to dealer and was told the vin was not part of the recall. The make, model, and model year are all part of the recall nhtsa campaign number: 13v113000 . This vehicle should be a part of the recall as the problem is exactly as described in the above nhsta campaign number.

After receiving letter from hyundai about defects in cruise control and other technical items, i took my car into dealer in fresno, california and they turned me awayrefusing to service recall order to fix and replace recall requirements stating that they did not have time and that they would call when they did. They never called, my contact number has never changed in 15years or more.

The esc off light began on july 22, 2014... On july 24, 2014, as i was driving down a busy street, the vehicle turned off on me while i was slowing down approaching a red light. There is a esc on/off switch, so when i pushed it in, the light turned off when the car was turned back on but not long after driving further, the esc off light came back on. I am definitely concerned about my safety, i live in houston, texas, therefore, driving down a major highway can be very dangerous and highly unsafe if the vehicle decided to turn off on my while i am driving.

My 2008 hyundai elantra has the airbags light on for about few years. I also have a problem on my car that is recently starting to have problems starting up. It has tune up, new sensors, new coils, and etc. I bought a fuel pump oem andthe pump is not 2 years old.

The car was parked in garage. At 4:40 am my neighbor woke me up to tell me my garage was on fire. Firefighters came and saw that the car was on fire which burnt down the whole car and my garage

The car went up in flames while parked in our driveway. It had not been driven for at least 4 hours. It could have caught our house on fire if not for the quick response by the fire department.

The contact owned a 2008 hyundai sonata. The contact stated the vehicle was parked in the driveway at her home and caught on fire independently. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire.a fire department report was filed. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact stated she recently received nhtsa campaign number: 20v061000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and believes this was the cause of the vehicle fire. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Drove car to grocery store 6 mile round trip parked car in garage at 10:15 am. I performed yard work in front of and was in and out of garage for 4 hours. At no time was there a hint of smoke or burning.then cut grass for 2 hours.at about 4 pm smoke was billowing out of the garage. I observed flames and smoke coming from around the front hood.unable to lift hood to reach fire source with extinguishers or get car into neutral to push out of garage.i was driven by smoke and flame out of garage.both the 2008 hyundai and another vehicle in the two car garage burned completely.all contents in garage destroyed extensive smoke damage throughout house.fire forensic investigator thinks it was caused by the battery but there was too much damage to make much of an informed comment as to precise reason car caught fire. Reason for fire is unknown.advanced auto battery purchased october 17, 2014. Part # 121r1. #420d2lnm1c1q21b5j. Repair of rear main seal in july 2016 by cochran of monroeville hyundai service department. Fog lights mini lamps a total of twenty, 20, lights (fog, break, headlights, license plate) front right and left, rear right and left were replaced. Rear left lamp and bulb housing replaced june 28, 2016 at a cost of $236 by dealer.

The cruise control on hyundai elantra failed to disengage while i driving on highway at 70 mph despite repeatedly pushing the "cancel" and "off" buttons.firm braking also failed to disengage the cruise control.i managed to stop only after pulling the emergency brake and applying heavy/maximum braking.smoke.tires destroyed.scary!my child and i almost died.the abs and esc off lights came on and remained on.kia and hyundai recently recalled 1.9 million vehicles to fix this issue.however, this incident suggests that hyundai has not fixed the problem because my car had the recall procedure completed one month prior to the incident occuring.

While driving in heavy traffic, inching along at low speed for about 1/2 miles; stopping and starting all the way, suddenly during one of these stops, the motor started to rev and the car accelerated on its own.had to brake hard to avoid hitting the car in front of me. About 10 minutes later, while parking the car in a parking space, the same thing happened.i had already stopped and was putting the car in park. I took the car to the local hyundai garage where they did road testing.computer tests showed no codes; sono repairs were made.when the tech line of the manufacturer was contacted on this matter was told that there were no cases relating to this problem on file.have had this problem sporadically since 2010.last reported an acceleration problem to the hyundai garage early in the month of december 2012.no one at hyundai wants to help me.

Leaving the parking lot at walgreen in tonawanda,ny. I was backing out with my foot on the brake. Putting the car in drive.the car leaped into a very high accelerated speed like a jet with the engine racing. The brake did not help. The car hit the barrier between the sidewalk and the store and the engine burst into flames.the distance was only a matter of yards.the airbags and seat belt kept me from going thru the windshield the force of the crash totaled the car. There was no one in this area of the parking lot thank goodness it was 10am sunday morning. I do not know who called the fire dept and police.. This is a very serious problem. This situation happen so fast you don,t have time to blink. I am now left with no car and a twisted back.

While driving there was unintended acceleration.

My daughter's 2008 hyundai elantra was parked on the street outside her apartment complex.the front of the car caught on fire after the car had been parked for about 30-35 hours.

I was merging onto i-275 e from i-471 and as i was pressing my foot down onto the gas pedal, the car started speeding up then continued to speed up when i removed my foot from the gas pedal. The engine locked at 65 mph. I tried to apply the brakes, but they were locked and wouldn'twork. I put the car in 2nd gear while i still had my feet the brake. That did not slow the car. I then shifted the gear into 1st gear while keeping my feet on the brake. I took both feet off the brake then back on the brake. The car shifted into 1st gear and started to slow down while making the high engine noise. The car slowed down after the car shifted into 1st gear.

Car losespower when driving car at low speed, car just shuts down and would need to place in park and restart the car, also lost power steering while driving car on the freeway, card wheel locked and car lost all power, was able to place it in park and restarted it, but was with out power steering, car shakes when driving passed 70 miles an hr.

My car wouldn't start and hissed when it did king hyundai said "hissing was the condensation because it hadn't been driven for so long" (3 years - just went out and started it once in a while).kh told me after extensive checking & videoing the underside of car (they sent me video) that it was the battery.it died on the way home !and then:- kh misdiagnosed my car three times !-head gasket now - kh told me they took "several test drives" yet the mileage in & the millage out on their invoice was exactly the same ! - took over a month to give me estimate- will not return my calls (30+ calls) to the service manager -dealer manager failed to return my calls also - even though hyundai customer care dept themselves suggested the dealer honor the 100,000/10 year warranty - kh refused !-kh had put an erroneous lien on the car the day of purchase and it took me over a month to have removed - please note: my mother bought the car new from this same dealer - i was with mom and she wrote them a check for the full purchase price.kh convinced mom to allow them to put lien on the car which kh told us would be immediately removed so they could get the financing bonus or whatever they call it. So when i went to sell the car earlier this year (mom passed away as well as my sister in boca raton and i'm trying to orchestrate this from california where i live ) and i had to get a duplicate title the lien was right there !!!long story short it took me over a month to have erroneous lien removed so i could even get the title !the kh denied putting the lien on (remember i was there) and when i called the lien holder - they also denied ever putting it on - blah blah blah.it took me dozens of phone calls to get to the bottom of this - please help me!and this is the short version !

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. While driving 40 mph, the engine seized without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the head gasket was blown and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Takata recall.driver lost control of the car and over corrected and hit a tree which pushed her into another tree.the front end of the car was wrecked and the air bags did not deploy.we were never contacted about the recall on the car so we had no knowledge that the air bags were defective.

2008 hyundai elantra with 9082 miles @ time of incidentyesterday, on the way home from work on i-90 in massachussets traveling at highway speed, the vehicle lost power and would not accelerate or maintain speed.had to make an emergency lane change to get over to the breakdown lane - this could have been dangerous.vehicle at first would not accelerate beyond 20 mph after pulling over, then ran ok for a while.this morning, it stalled at the end of my driveway, but i was able to start again.then it would not accelerate above 20 mph several times and would buck/run rough once at 20 mph.i was able to limp it to the local hyundai dealership in arlington ma, where it is currently.

I have a 2008 elantra that stalled on july 21, 2008 on the new jersey turnpike when it had 3,455 miles. The car decelerated so quickly that i was almost rear ended by an 18-wheeler. A half hour earlier it nearly stalled in an intersection and almost caused an accident. The check engine light turned on approximately 10 minutes before the the intersection incident and 40 minutes before almost being rear ended by the truck. A state trooper stopped to make sure i was okay and to escort me to the toll both / exit but i don't imagine he filed a report.i push the car off the turnpike exit and had it towed to the local hyundai dealer. They diagnosed the problem as a failed fuel pump and replaced the part. There was no accident and no one was injured but the possibility of injury was very real.

New 2008 hyundai elantra gls, had problems in 1st gear engine would shut off and sometimes it would run very ruff ,sometimes starting the car i would turn the key and it was like the battery was dead had to do it 2 or 3 times before the starter would catch on and start the car. I only drove this car for 12 days before taking it into the dealer for a complete check up also the alarm wasnt working. They told me that the fuel pump was bad (new car only 1000 miles????) and it should take a few days to get the part in, then after a week they told me they were still waiting on the part and there is a "natl back order on this part" and they should be getting in the part soon they hope. Week 2 there still waiting on the part and he has 4 cars waiting for the samepart all elantras (3from their stock). Week 3 still waiting, still no part, i called hyundai they told me they dont know of any problems or possible recalls on the part and promised to call me backin 24 to 48 hrs, i had to call them back 4 days later asking why i didnt get a call back, another customer care agent helped me this time saying that she is so sorry im having such problem and promised to call me back that same day after she had a chance to talk to the service manager at the dealership. Im once again waiting with no call backs......the car has now been in their hands for 22 days with no part in hand to repair my car????????. Thought you should know about it...

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra.while turning at 15 mph, the vehicle suddenly began to lose power when the accelerator pedal was depressed.instead of accelerating, the engine slowed down, but never lost complete power.the contact pulled the vehicle over for approximately 20 minutes and attempted to restart it, but was unsuccessful.when she proceeded to accelerate, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel.the contact drove the vehicle back to her residence.the following day the vehicle was towed to a dealer and they stated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle; however, they suspected that the failure could have been due to the fuel quality.through online research, the contact found numerous complaints and even an investigation on the same failure she is experiencing.the current and failure mileages were 1,115.

2008 hyundai elantra semodel # 44422car is "jumping" while driving, feels like it's shifting gears while driving on highway/road.has not stalled out while driving though.sometimes check engine light will turn on after these episodes.i have taken car to autoland hyundai in uniontown, pa (where care was purchased) multiple times now.they first said a wire was loose, and tightened it for problem to happen again.then they put some type of holster in to correct the problem.car drove ok for about 1 month, but now is having problem again.happened twice tonight while driving and check engine light is now on.

My 2008 hyundai elantra started losing power at 70 mph, and almost stalled on the highway. I pulled off the road at the next exit and the car continued to reduce speed.i safely parked the car, and had to have the car towed. I was 300 miles away from my home.if i had stalled on the highway it would have been extremely dangerous.

Squeaking noise when turning off vehiclenoise occurred every time vehicle was turned off.under warranty dealer determined noise was coming from water pump due to an internal bearing failure.

There were two similar incidents on my 2008 hyundai elantra.the car shut off suddenly while i was still driving it.the lights stayed on, but the engine shut off.the first time was a few months ago, although i can't remember exactly.i was making a sharp turn when the engine shut off.the second time was a few weeks ago.i was going at a slow speed when the engine shut off.the brakes didn't respond, so i had to use the emergency brake to stop the car.i crashed into a bush.

The car stalled 6/21/11 at 7pm on the freeway in 10-20 mile an hour stop and go traffic. The temp outside was mild, i had been on the road for 20 min before hitting traffic, and both air conditioning and radio were on. I was in traffic approx. 10 min. I went to tap the gas pedal and nothing was there. I had to get out (on freeway) and push the car off the road and onto center divide (no call boxes). Two strangers stopped and helped me to side of road. After 5 minutes i was able to start car and drive home. The car stalled again on 7/29/11 in 10-20 mph stop and go traffic at 5pm. The temp was mild and i had just filled the car with gas. 15 minutes later on the freeway (stop and go traffic), with air conditioner and radio on, i went to tap the gas pedal and nothing was there. Was in traffic less than 10 min. Again stuck in the middle of the freeway. This time i did not get out of the car but was attempting to call for help when chp pulled up behind me and used his car to push me off the road. I put car in neutral, chp pushed me off through entire lane of freeway traffic into center divide. The brake would not work. I had my foot to the floor but car was not stopping. The emergency brake was the only thing that kept me from rolling into siderail. While we waited for tow truck, i attempted to start car and it started. Chp escorted me off freeway and i drove home 5 min. Away.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra.while driving 45 mph, the throttle sensor sticks and causes the vehicle to continue accelerating without pressure being applied to the pedal.the contact has to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they determined that the throttle sensor was failing.the vehicle is currently being repaired.the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that they will call the dealer for a report on the failure, and give the contact a call back.the failure mileage was 20 and current mileage was 17,400.

In march of this yr, a friend informed me that my driver side brake light was out.i had the bulb replaced & then got a notice about the recall.the work was performed in june (replacement of a stop switch i believe is what it was called)..........last week i went back to the dealer for a couple of problems that i felt were recall related.both my driver side brake light was out again, my third brake light was out & i informed them that one day i was having a problem moving the gear shift out of park.all of these i felt were recall related but was told that they are not.........that the elantra has a history of burning brake lights out.and i was told that if the problem w/the gear shift happens again, to bring my car in.i feel that this recall, between the fact that the brake lights keep burning out, cruise control can be difficult to disengage & having a problem w/the gear shift are all pretty serious issues.i feel like there is still a safety issue w/the elantra.i don't think the work they did fixed anything.

I leased my car in 2012, and have had to replace my lights at least 6 or 7 times. I have bought bulbs to replace my lights and then noticed they work intermittently. I have owned a 2008 hyundai elantra pzev for approximately 2 years and 2 months.in the two years that i have owned this car, i have had the brake light sensor go out twice.the result of not having a working brake light sensor is that i no longer have any working brake lights!i have only avoided a rear end collision because i have been advised by fellow motorists.i have already had one brake light sensor replaced under warranty:hyundai needs to manufacture a brake light sensor that doesn't fail in less than a year.if hyundai doesn't fix this problem, it is only a matter of time before i or a member of my family is seriously injured or killed because this defective part!

Came to stop light, the gentleman in the car next to me at the stoplight told me he almost hit me a little ways back when i stopped to let a vehicle turn.he stated my brake lights were not working.checked and it was true the back window light and both brake lights did not work.took it to the repair shop and they checked the fuses and bulbs.all were good.notified that stop lamp switch is bad and needs to be replaced.through research appears this has been a problem with hyundai elantras, unfortunately, the 2008's have yet to be recalled.called hyundai to double check recalls and they confirmed no recall at this time on the stop lamp switch.

Was unable to put car in reverse or park after pulling into a parking spot. Discovered the brake lights are inoperable. Had to use extra key to engage the switch lock in order to move the vehicle. Researched the web and found recalls for models 05-07 with the same problem. Recall # 092. Informed hyundai customer service center at 1-800-633-5151 so they could add to their databases.

I've 2008 elantra se automatic with 5400 miles on it. Yesterday my wife was driving from boston to upstate after finishing my younger one's treatment at bch. And half way through she stopped at a rest area. After pulling out from rest area the car started decelerating and it was feeling as if car was trying to shift gear but having issues. It reached up to speed of 60-65 and after that no matter how much gas she applies it wont go any further but started to decelerate. Luckily she was able to pull over on side and called hra to get car towed to nearest dealership. Just hour ago got call back from dealership stating it was issue with fuel pump and they have replaced it and car is ready for pickup. This is first time this failure happen while she was driving. We have felt couple of times while driving like car with has some kind of thrust (probably trying to change gear in automatic transmission). But this was first time when it wont take anymore gas after pushing gas pedal. It is serious issue and manufacturer needs to be made aware of it or should take some action against manufacturer.

Brand new car that after three weeks of ownership stalled in the middle of the road.dealership replaced air sensors, car stalled again.finally determined fuel pump was bad and replaced fuel pump from a car on the lot, car stalled again.fuel pump replaced with new fuel pump, car still stalling.have brought car in 7 times now and am now being told to go home with the car because they don't want to look at it.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra.whenever the contact shifted into park, the gear would never stick.the vehicle would either move forward for a few seconds before coming to a complete stop.whenever the gear was in drive, the vehicle would jerk forward.when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle would not move or would suddenly accelerate.the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times for these failures.during the first visit, the mechanic replaced the transmission, which corrected the issue for less than four months.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they stated that the solenoids were causing the failures.the dealer replaced the valve assembly and the solenoids.there had been no further occurrences since the last repair.the contact believes that a recall should be issued since it appeared to be a manufacturer defect.the failure mileage was 8,918 and current mileage was 11,792. Updated 7/23/09 the consumer also stated there was a smell of gas in the vehicle. Updated 07/30/09.*ub

Away.

I have a 2008 elantra that continues to stall and hesitate. This occurred on two separate occasions and i was almost hit from behind. The dealership has failed twice to diagnosis the problem and i have filed a complaint with hyundai. Now they want me to take the car back to the dealership and leave it overnight. They don't currently have a loaner car. My car was not a part of the recall, why? i don't know. Clearly there is something wrong with the fuel line and i am afraid i am going to hurt in a car accident.

My 2008 hyundai elantra stalls frequently, but not reproducible, about once a week. I notice this when the vehicle is traveling around 20-25 miles/hour. Internet search indicates that others are experiencing similar problem and a faulty fuel pump may be the issue.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra.the contact received a recall notice to have the fuel pump repaired on her vehicle.she had not experienced any failures with the vehicle prior to having it repaired.afterwards, she noticed that the vehicle would not operate the same.while driving less than 45 mph and attempting to brake, the vehicle would accelerate.she also felt heavy vibrations in the vehicle as well.the nhtsa campaign id number was unknown.the failure mileage was 360 and current mileage was 1,100.

We purchased the vehicle new in april of 2008. The vehicle abruptly looses engine power, shuts down and stops. This has now occurred three times. On june 6th the vehicle broke down in traffic. It was towed to the dealer. They repaired a pvc hose that had collapsed. After picking up the vehicle the following day, thesame event occurred, stranding us in the middle of a divided, heavily traveled, road. The vehicle was again towed to the dealer for repairs. This time the fuel pump was replaced. After waiting five days for the part to be delivered, i picked up the car once again. My wife had earlier noticed a very strong odor of gasoline after we brought it home. On june 19th i was out running errands with my children. The vehicle, again shut down in the middle of the road. I again had the vehicle towedto the dealer.the service manager then informed me he had just found outhyundai was having a problem with the fuel systems on their 2008 elantra models. I then called hyundai customer service to file a complaint about the vehicle. I also ask the representative to check on any recalls or campaigns against my vehicle. After checking his system he informed me that there were no campaigns or recalls registered against the car. So far this dangerous event has occurred three times in the past few days. I am very concerned for the safety of my family when we use this vehicle. So far the collapsedpvc hose and fuel pump have been replaced without correcting the problem. I just received a call from the dealership that the vehicle had no gasoline in it. I explained to the service manager that when the vehicle shutdown, the vehicle was registering 3/4 tank. Now they are checking other problems with the fuel system. I have no confidence in the vehicle. I am deeply concerned that they are unable determine the defect with the vehicle. I am also deeply concerned that if i have to use this vehicle again it will shutdown again and i or a family membermay be injured.

Our 2008 hyundai elantra stalled on i-5 outside of chico ca with less approximately 900 miles on the car.we were just barely able to get to the shoulder before the car completely died.we were towed to the hyundai dealer who replaced the fuel pump.

I took my 2008 elantra in for service.they replaced the fuel pump due to a recall.that same day the car stalled in the middle of a busy highway.they just replaced the fuel pump again.

While driving on a major highway and traveling at high speed, as i began to merge to an exit ramp, my 2008 hyundai elantra completely stalled out.i tried to restart the car three times and it died on me on each of those tries.after the fourth attempt i was able to restart the car to get to a safe location.the car was taken to the dealership the next morning when i was told that the fuel pump had been recalled and that it would be replaced.the fuel pump was replaced, but there were further problems with the fuel system.the fuel pump was recalled four days prior to me buying the elantra and i was not made aware of the issue by the dealership.

Took a 375 mile/ 8 hour trip.new 2008 hyundai elantra w/less than 1800 miles.upon exiting expressway, engine struggled,as if trying to shift to next gear, but bucked & hesitated.after stopped at a red light, proceeded to crossbusy intersection. Car sputtered and stalled .check engine light came on and stayed on.5 failed attempts to restartbut did after 9 minutes.made it to destination.local hyundai service center closed.forced to attempt trip back next day.had to drive through very heavy traffic - including the george washington bridge, and winding mountain roads in pa.car acted up 3-4 times, each time losing speed, sputtering & bucking.while never actually stalled, could have been catastrophic. Acted worse while accelerating - sounded like engine cutting out.dropped it off to dealership where purchased 8/10/08.next day, informed of broken fuel pump.being replaced with a new one - ready today,8/14/08.after reading so many similar stories on-line, i felt i had to inform you of my incident.i believe there needs to be a recall - especially as there are so many 2008 elantras on the road.had we needed to make an emergency escape of our stalled car, in ny traffic, we would have likely been killed trying to exit, and probably been run over by a tractor trailer had we stayed in the car.we certainly would not have been able to get our crated puppy out of the back seat, as a parent would not be able to rescue a baby in an infant seat.this is a series of tragedies waiting to happen!!!!i will still not feel confident driving my 3 1/2 month old car, as many people continue to have trouble even with replaced parts.i implore you to probe deeper in to this matter and have hyundai correct this problem...before many people become a fatality statistic!

My 2008 elantra se which i bought in may has had two "episodes" of stalling.the first (od 1100 mi) on july 14 occurred on the freeway and began as a slight hesitation that got progressively worse such that we took the next exit and limped home on back roads.the check engine light came on and the car stalled twice before we finally made it home.the next day i was able to drive it to the dealer about 5 miles away.their diagnosis was a bad oxygen sensor which they didn't have in stock.they said it would be ok to drive the car until the new sensor arrived.it ran fine and 3 days later i took it in to have the sensor replaced.they ran diagnostics again and said the sensor was ok and needn't be replaced.they said maybe it was bad gas or vapor lock and sent me on my way.the car ran fine until this afternoon (aug 5) when it began hesitating (od 1432 mi) on the freeway and once again i took the first exit and limped home, unable to exceed 25 mph, bucking all the way.my wife followed me to the dealer and for the last mile were unable to go over 5 mph (emergency flashers on). We never made it as the elantra shut down completely in rush hour traffic and i had to get out and push into a nearby parking lot.i called hyundai roadside assistance and had the car trucked to the dealer, only about 4 blocks away.i understand nhtsa is investigating 07-08 elantra stalling complaints and wanted to add another data point for your consideration.

Was driving new elantra (1100 miles and 12 days of ownership) on highway when vehicle started sputtering and lost power no matter how much gas i fed it.pulled over and turned off car.restarted vehicle with difficulty and "check engine" light indicating emissions problem came on.car seemed fine until 2-3 miles later when same symptoms (lurching, losing power) recurred..this happened 2 more times, each time i managed to pull off road, turned off car, let it sit and then took multiple attempts at starting before it engaged and ran very rough, with very little power.intent was to get to a safe place to stop.car was towed to nearest huyndai dealership (i was 150 miles from home) where they initially diagnosed bad gas.but car ran 175 miles on that tank of gas before problem occurred.then they diagnosed bad fuel pump and replaced fuel pump.hyundai roadside assistance was useless -- had to arrange for own tow truck -- hyundai did not offer replacement vehicle or even reimbursement for gas for me to drive back and forth to pick up my dead new car from being repaired 150 miles from home.we've not had further problems (now have 7500 miles on it) but i am on edge expecting another break-down after reading other people's experiences.

Purchased a new 2008 hyundai elantra. Left the dealership with the new car and after driving about 10 miles, noticed that the car was hesitating and could not increase speed and shift to the next higher gear. The car finally shifted to the final gear and all was well for about 10 more miles; then the car started to slow down to the point where feeding gas was not helping. The car crawled to a stop at a freeway exit (fortunately) and i contacted the dealer. They arranged towing and delivered me a loaner. The fuel pump failed after only 20 miles of driving the new car.

2008 hyundai elantra. Consumer states vehicle has a mileage problem.*tgwwhile on a 4,600 mile trip, mostly on the interstate, with the cruise control set at 60 mph, the average mpg was only 28 mpg. Hyundai informed the consumer they could not help him with the mileage. The epa fuel economy estimated 33 mpg with the expected range for most drivers up to 39 mpg.

After having my fuel pump replaced due to a recall and previously reported problem, my car stalled out on a busy road again.i tried to restart the car numerous times with no luck at all.i had to have the car towed to a safe location so i was able to have it towed to the hyundai dealership.i was told that this time the reason the car stalled was due to a fuel sensor being incorrect as a result of the installation of the new fuel pump.i was told that the car stalled because it was completely out of gas.the fuel gauge read that i had 3/4 of a tank.it at minimum is going to take the dealership a full week to have this problem resolved.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra.the vehicle was filled with gasoline on three occasions, and each time, fuel shot back out of the vehicle.the vehicle has not been inspected yet, but plan to do so on july 17, 2008.the contact feels that this is a safety issue because she could have been covered in gasoline.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 1,015.updated 09/10/08updated 09/15/08

I got into my car 120 miles from home and noticed my check engine light was on.i called my dealer where i bought the car from and told them.they made an appointment for me to bring it in.i proceeded to travel back home 120 miles away and was at a light.the light changed i put my foot on the pedal and it went 5 miles and hour.i pulled over called the 800 number on the car for hyundai was told they would tow the car to the closest dealer.i had no problem with that but i wanted to know how i could get back home 120 miles.they told me the dealer should give me a loaner car.they would not because i did not purchase the car from them..i continued to try and make it home and the car broke down 30 miles into the drive.called the dealer i got the car from and they had a tow truck come and get me.the final part of the story is that it was the fuel pump.there should be a recall.i could have killed myself and others if i did not stay in the right hand lane.hyundai was not a pleasure to work with.i have not even had my car 30 days and it broke down.

My fiancee and i recently purchased a brand new(had 7 miles on when we got it) 2008 hyundai elantra. In about the third week of ownership, we took a road trip out of state. While returning home, on the ny state thruway, the car began to shake and shudder, and lose speed rapidly. The engine light came on and i pulled over to the shoulder. After about half an hour, i tried to drive again and had the same problems. We were towed off of the thruway, then to a hyundai dealership by hra, where they looked at the vehicle for a morning. The problem was diagnosed as 'bad gas'. We were told to buy a container of dry gas and sent on our way. The car seemed to behave for about 5 days, then the next weekend i ventured out of town again in my still new car. About an hour into my trip, the car started shuddering and shaking on interstate 84. I pulled off at the nearest exit, and the car died completely. I was not in a safe location, so i tried to start it to move the car. It would no longer start. I got towed all the way home at great expense to myself, and brought the car to the dealership where i bought it. After 5 complete days of working on the car, they replaced the fuel pump. I am now reading that other people have had similar problems, sometimes with far worse consequences. I have not yet operated my new car on a highway since the fuel pump replacement, but i plan to tonight, and am quite nervous about it.

When we called to hyundai motor company about the recall campaign on 65000 units hyundai elantra 2008 asking why we did not receive the notification. Their response as follows " we have received your email regarding when you will receive a recall notice for your 2008 elantra. After researching your concern we have determined that your vehicle is not affected by campaign 086 for the fuel filter. Fuel pumps installed in vehicles prior to november 5, 2007, and since june 28, 2008, were manufactured with upper body components that maintain proper armature alignment. The models produced during that production date range are the only ones affected by the armature alignment condition. Your vehicle was produced on 9/29/2007". Our conclusion that hyundai just screen out the demand of recall repairs and wait until incident crash occurred or law suit if the fuel pump failure. When i drive on the street or freeway, sometimes i feel the vehicle is slow down and jerking or jump as no fuel injected or pumped properly in the engine despite of middle grade 98 octane gas.

I had an issue in early june regarding my 2008 hyundai elantra.car began to hesitate and stalled out.it was told back to dealership, which could not recreate the problem and informed me it was a fuel injection misfire, rebooted computer and said it would not happen again.on july 3rd, i had the exact same situation occur on my trip while driving on i-95 to visit family in delaware.dealership in delaware on july 7th informed me i had a defective fuel pump and replaced it on july 8th.leads me to believe that was problem in june and dealership i purchased car from did not investigate the problem properly.

Purchased 2008 hyundai elantra in mid-may 2008. Within two weeks the car encountered problems stalling and running sluggish. First time it happened, i took it to the dealer they had an error code, said a sensor had went out. Car worked fine for less than 24 hours, i was on a major highway and the car just sputtered and wouldn't go over 5 miles an hour. I spent 20 minutes dodging traffic trying to get off the highway intersection to where i could have the car in a safe spot. Let it sit and it started back up no problems, until the next day, it just died on the road. Had it towed to the dealer, five days later they said they replaced the fuel pump. It's been a month now since the repair and haven't had any problems with the car so far, but i am crossing my fingers every time i start it up and drive somewhere.

Our hyundai elantra, with approx. 1000 miles on it, stalled not far from our home.we left home and within two miles the car begin to hesitate. After a mile of several hesitating instances, we turned around but could not make it home.the engine died and we had to park in a neighbor's driveway. The fuel pump had gone out.

Fuelpump failure after 2,000 miles.

Driving north on hwy 5 from bakersfield ca when the engine began to miss and loose power. I managed to pull over at avenal where i put gas in hoping it would work better. I let it rest and when i started it up, the engine light came on. I drove it a bit and called into the roadside assistance from hyundai and explained the situation to them. I said i was driving north but keeping it at 65 mph. I was told to continue and call back if any other issues occurred. Soon after that the car began loosing power intermittently and the engine was missing. Finally, at 10 miles before rte 152 between mendota & firebaugh, the car completely died and the battery light came on. I called roadside assistance again and they called for a tow and a police officer.the tow driver arrived about an hour later and took it to the gilroy dealership. I have since been informed it was the fuel pump. This is a new car, 2008, with only 770 miles on it. I've only had it 4 days.

I have a hyundai elantra which one had 3500 miles on it and the cars fuel pump went while i was diving it. Just started to sputter and the check engine light came on. Had to have it tow to dealership where they replaced the fuel pump.

Engine cut off with fuel gauge dropping to'empty' [ with a 1/2 full tank]. On the nys thruway almost causing a collision with an 18 wheeler as i coasted across its path to the shoulder in rockland county. Called aaa and eventually, [about 10 min. After, while still on the line with aaa, i heard a light click and the fuel gauge went back up to 1/2 tank and the car engine started up to complete my drive home.

2008 hyundai elantra with recall for the fuel pump. Consumer states that the vehicle was looked at and the work was performed. After the work was performed the vehicle stopped running while driving and a smell of gasoline filled the car.it was discovered that the fuel line leading to the fuel pump had come loose and had fallen off the connection point, which was the cause of the fuel leak and the vehicle stalling. The consumer believed the problem was related to the recall work that was performed.

I purchased my 08 elantra this summer. Delivery date 07/05/08. Complaint 1, "customer states engine wont start". The dealership replaced fuel pump to correct concern. Complaint 2, incident 1 invoice date 09/15/08. I began to have problems with my clutch. Vehicle will make grinding noises going into rev, 1st, and 2nd gear. Clutch will not engage properly. Will stall out when very cold or raining. Major problems when at stop lights railroad crossings(stalling out on the tracks) or going up an incline. After several attempts to "correct my concern" the dealership and its service shop have yet to "duplicate" the problem or any to be exact. However, my service report date 09/24/08 states "but did find hard to get into gear at times bled hydraulic system and corrected concern."again on 10/08/08 dealer stated could not duplicate problem but service invoice reads " cust stats in am trans is hard to shift into gear and rpm gage will rev high found hard shift replaced tranny gear oil to correct concern" i took the car back on 11/06/08 because it still has the same problems and a few new ones. I spoke to the owner of the dealership who verified that there was a problem with the car. Later that day he called me back and told me it was fine. Liar much?i have my car back again today 11/13/08 and it is still giving me problems. These problems create a serious safety hazard due to the fact that it stalls out in the middle of the road in stop and go traffic and at lights and gives off a weird smell like a burned circuit after i go uphill for too long, keep in mind i'm not driving my car into the ground. I took a test drive with the service manager today, the car was giving me trouble right in front of him and he claims that i was riding the clutch. I explained to him that i needed to depress the clutch pedal to keep the car from stalling out but he ignored me. I'll be going back on the 15th to speak to the owner again.

2008 hyundai elantra recall for fuel pump motor problem. Consumer states that the dealership is having a problem with getting the parts for the car. *nj

I have had the car to the dealer three times for poor performance, stalling issues and the fuel pump recall.for the last month the car is having great difficulty turning over at start.im wondering if the fuel pump will ever be "right".

A week after purchasing my brand new 2008 hyundai elantra my car cut off in the middle of the road and failed to start. I luckily was able to eventually get it started in lieu of waiting a hour in the heat at rush hour for the roadside assistance. The car sputtered to the dealeship where i got a loaner. I was called today and told it was the fuel pump. I then decided to research the issue because a brand new car should not be shutting down in the middle of the road. I could not find anything from hyundai acknowledging the issue. After reading this website( http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f14ffd5) i realized this is a common issue facing new elantra owners that needs to be addressed!

The check engine light came on when i started up the car one morning in early may; ended up getting a new gas cap. 24 hours later, check engine light comes on again when i start up the car. After smoke testing for leaks, got the purge valve replaced. 24 hours later, check engine light comes on again while i'm at a stop light. Waited couple months due to no income during pandemic. Code was the same regarding emissions issues; another smoke test revealed faulty vent canister valve. Got it replaced and drove fine for an hour. Few hours later, the light came back on once again while i'm accelerating after a turn. The mechanic that installed the vcv checked the part as well as the purge valve and noticed neither part were functioning as needed. He stated potential ecu issue or faulty fuel tank pressure sensor with the likelihood of the latter being the most likely cause. I did not okay work on either part; he did what he could and the light went off. When i came to a stop light, the check engine light came of yet again.nhtsa recall shows 08v429000 (and a separate 08v694000 for puerto rico) that appears to coincide with my issues as well as that of many others (based on research). My vin does not show as being part of the recall, however. I question whether hyundai fully disclosed the full list of the potential cars affected by a faulty fuel pump motor.

The car went up in flames while parked in our driveway. It had not been driven for at least 4 hours. It could have caught our house on fire if not for the quick response by the fire department.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while starting the ignition, he noticed that the fuel level gauge displayed an empty tank reading although the fuel capacity level was at one quarter full. The vehicle was repaired in 2008 under nhtsa campaign id number 08v694000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the recall remedy failed to correct the problem. The vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.

2008 elentra began experiencing failures to start. Removing the fuel pump access cover and pounding on the fuel pump would usually result in successful starting. This fuel pump was a replacement in 2008 under recall 08v694000 because of intermittent failure to run. We thought it again might be the fuel pump motor. However, when we replaced the fuel pump, we found the problem was a bad motor connector plug that had obviously overheated. If this connector became too hot or started sparking inside the tank, it seems like there may be possibility of fuel ignition.

For the past 2 weeks i have noticed a problem with the emergency brakes. Now 2 days ago while on a hill and in park i had the emergency brakes on and the car started rolling with me in it before i even got out of the car. Back in august i told my dealer the car was rolling backwards when i would park on a hill and they checked it out and it stopped doing this, but they said they found nothing wrong. Now it is getting more serious.

2008 hyundai elantra would not shift into park.tried moving the vehicle to another location, adjusting steering wheel and shift lever.finally, depressed shift lock override before i could go to park and remove the key.the next morning, the vehicle would not shift out of park.had to depress shift lock override to start the car.

Transmission slams into third gear while driving (could be on side street, could be on the highway) and can only operate in third after that until the engine is turned off. I took it to a transmission place and they said it is the computer not the mechanics of the transmission. Check engine light does come on when this happens. This has happened multiple times first being in november the most recent was yesterday on the freeway. I have serviced the transmission appropriately.

Was driving at regular speed (35mph to 40mph) then my i felt a stall transmission and my car couldn't shift up or down was keeping into 3rd gear and my engine light came on!

After pulling into the driveway and putting the car in park the car would skip down the driveway and into the road.this has happened numerous times in various driveways.the driveways are not steep or out of the ordinary.hyundai confirmed the problem and has replaced the transmission due to the locking pin not engaging.it is dangerous because anyone in the road or in your driveway can be hit by the car as it skips down the driveway.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra.while driving 65 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle began to jump when the cruise control was deactivated.the contact did not apply any pressure to the brake pedal.the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and the contact shut it off.the vehicle was able to be restarted, but when he released the clutch to place the vehicle in first gear, it would stall.after a few attempts to release the clutch to shift into first gear, the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle moved forward.the manufacturer advised him to take the vehicle to a local dealer.the vehicle was driven to the dealer and they stated that the abs module needed to be reset and indicated low voltage.the vin was unavailable.the current mileage was 22,000 and failure mileage was 19,000.

I was driving my 2008 hyundai elantra on the highway and began driving on the exit ramp when the brake was applied the car accelerated to a speed of 85mph.i had both feet on the brake and the car would not stop.i put the car in neutral and it slowed to 20mph.at that point i put the car in park and turned it off.the car was smoking and i could smell something burning.car was taken to hyundai dealership where they told me the throttle cable had debris on it and malfunctioned causing the throttle to accelerate to high speed. The car had accelerated twice before but not to such high speeds and would react to the brakes being applied.

Entering a crowded parking lot in the city of chicago, i slowed down to approx. 2 mph (almost idle speed) as i approached the ticket dispenser when all of a sudden the car accelerated over 6000 rpms and took off.as reflex, i slammed the brakes (since the abs doesn't work without power) but the acceleration kept increasing and the brakes were not inhibiting movement so i then forced the key out of the ignition and pulled the emergency break - all within a second or two.the car stopped within inches of hitting a few other cars and people inside those cars after the forward momentum had been overcompensated by the initial brake push and emergency braking.there was a strong burnt rubber and oil smell but it wasn't from the tires.the check engine light came on after two driving cycles and has remained on.this is a very serious situation that needs attention!i am very experienced driver and knew what to do and how to do it but was still within inches of seriously hurting others and destroying property.i also suffered whiplash on my neck and hit the steering column as a result of the sudden stop.air bags were not deployed.there are several incidents that have been reported in the past few months (march 2013 - may 2013) by drivers in several states on this same year model.i am urging nhtsa to look into this.i will also contact hyundai and if hyundai doesn't respond i will be contacting media outlets because hyundai owners need to be informed of this very dangerous and potentially fatal situation.

Dear madam/sir,my name is [xxx], and along with my husband [xxx] i own an automatic silver hyundai elantra 2008, plate number: [xxx], vin: [xxx]. We purchased the car new, serviced it in a timely fashion, as required, only at hyundai representatives. The car meter currently reads close to 40,000 miles.on january 2nd, 2013 arund 4:15 pm i parked my car on the street, in front of my house, facing uphill, like i usually do. Half an hour later a friend arrived, parked her car down the street, facing downhill, 100 feet away from my car, same side of the street. At that time she remembers she saw my car in the same spot i initially parked it. An hour later, as my friend was getting ready to leave, my husband looked over the window and saw my car around 50 feet down the road from my usual parking spot. He initially though that the parking space was occupied when i arrived home, so he handed me the car keys so i can bring the car in front of the house. When i walked with my friend towards her car, we saw that my car has slid down the road around 50 feet, probably pushing my friend's car around 10 feet away from her initial parking location. The front bumper of my car does not have scratches, so it is not likely that my car has been pushed by another car. As a result of the collision the hyundai elantra has a completely damaged rear bumper, with considerable damage to the trunk also. My friends car (a lexus rx, 2012) has the rear bumper damaged.we believe this incident was due to faulty transmission on the hyundai elantra. In past, we had several incidents .at this point i am very concerned about the safety of my car. I drive my daughter in that car, and if the car decides to slide down the road on its own, this puts my baby's life in danger.thanks [xxx] my hyundai case number is [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I started to exit the vehicle in park on a very slight incline when it started bucking forward and i almost fell out of the vehicle. I told hyundai service that it was dangerousand should be repaired and they said to put the emergency brake on before i put it in park and it was not an issue. I have driven hundreds of cars and never had a car start jerking forward in park no matter what incline i was on. This condition is dangerous and hyundai should fix it. The shifter stays in park while this is occurring.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was parked on an incline, the vehicle would roll away and come out of park. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the park pawl failed. The dealer stated that the transmission would have to be replaced in order to repair the problem. The manufacturer advised that the contact should always engage on the emergency brake. The failure mileage was 25,000 and the current mileage was 100,125.

My 2008 hyundai elantra will automatically accelerate without warning above the speed that i am driving, which almost caused an accident while i had 4 teenagers in my car. I bought my car new and i have been experiencing this problem for at least a year, i'm not sure of the date this problem started. Hyundai dealership experienced the problem and put new transmission in and problem is still not fixed. Hyundai and dealership are refusing to acknowledge the problem still exists. I do not feel safe to drive my family in this vehicle and i won't.i can't seem to get anyone to help me.

The vehicle will roll away when placed in park (while stationary) if attempting to park on any slight incline or decline. A ratcheting sound is heard coming from the transmission when this occurs as the vehicle is rolling out of control.sometimes it starts to roll after you have exited the vehicle.the vehicle experienced the same concern several years ago and the transmission was replaced with a good used transmission.now the used transmission is experiencing the same issue with not staying in park.a pedestrian was nearly struck last week by the vehicle rolling away but i was able to get back in it and stop it with the service brake.i have read online that this is a common occurrence with the hyundai elantra automatic transmissions.

On august 3rd 2018 i purchase a 2008 hyundai elantra from campbell auto finance used cars and trucks in gilroy california when i was driving home on the freeway doing 65 i heard a big thumping noise in the front passenger side like it shifted out of drive and came back into drive the check engine light came on every time i drove the car it will make that noise pop out of gear and go back into drive on august 7th 2018 i was driving my car back to gilroy the car made a hard bumping noise and then the car was stuck into 3rd gear and it's still stuck in 3rd gear and it will not come out

While city driving between 30 and 40 miles per hour engine rpms drop to around 1000 rpms or less causing the vehicle to become sluggish and to vibrate.the only way to eliminate this problem is to force the vehicle to shift into a lower gear by mashing down on the accelerator.under certain circumstances this kind of action could force an unnecessary rear end collision with front air bag deployment as well as personal injury. This problem has been brought to the dealers attention and they concur that it does exist.i've been told that i am not the only one that has reported this problem.they believe it may have something to do with a glitch in the torque converter software.hyundai is aware of the problem (ref # 3406332) but offers no solution.i was basically told sorry they have no idea what it is and i'll just have to live with it.it is extremely annoying as well as dangerous.hopefully someone address this concern before their is a serious injury.this problem has been constant since the day i bought it.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. While driving 1 mph during snowy conditions, the abs light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was later towed to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the cv joint needed to be replaced. The problem reoccurred and the vehicle was towed back to the dealership where it was at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 16,500.

I had a new 2008 hyundai elantra.the vehicle had only 3,000 miles on it.i hit another vehicle from behind.it was a direct front hit at about 40-45 mph.the seat belt did not tighten to hold either myself or my passenger back.the air bags for myself and my passenger did not deploy.all professional people (fire dept, mechanics, tow yard, police) stated repeatedly that there was no reason for the air bags and seat belts notto work.

Start october 2015, when i pull the seat belt it generate rattling noise but no problem to buckle up. I did not aware that was a safety issue. When my daughter borrowed and drove on the road last week (11/24/2015), she heard the noise and tested it by pulling out quickly, the seat belt did not hold her back. That meant i was driving on the road without working seat belt for two months. Please look into this, see if anyway can warn the driver the dangerous situation. Myself just was not smart enough to see this potential safety issue.

While driving east toward home, a large suv or pickup truck came around the curve with bright lights on, thus blinding me. I did not see a car turning left until too late to stop. Resulting in rear ending the other car. The air bags on my hyundai failed to deploy. Also i do not think the right seat belt did not catch allowing my wife, the passenger to travel to its end and hitting her head on the dash or windshield, also injuring her right shoulder. I did not receive any recalls on seat belts or air bags.

If someone had notified me about my new car and its problems i would of not been in three different accidents front end all of them and check for your self my record in driving was perfect last ten years or more when i had my older car in year and no accidents .. Hi i have been in multiple accidents after i bought this car in dec of 2012 a few months goes by and i was on my way home from work ,, keep in mind before i had a jetta old model no accidents since the day i got my license .. I felt when i tried to jam on brakes to not get in accident my brakes stop alittle but lunged forward i pushed very hard still again stop lunged forward .. Not even a month after it was fixed and i sprained my neck another front end damage occurred brakes at fault because pushed hard to stop in sudden isn't working properly i haven't been notified about any defects or anything that would let me think breaks are not perfect as they should be .. I had a perfect driving record since i was sixteen for the most part last ten yrs no accidents . But as soon as i purchase this elantra three accidents i will not be punished for reason i was never notified of recalls .

The abs warning light was noted to be on continuously for more than a week. The problem was traced to a broken wire in the main engine harness. There was no noticeable change in performance of the vehicle.

On 02/12/2013 i observed the brakes lights on my 2008 hyundai elantra to be out. I checked the fuses, all were good. A private mechanic checked and stated the stop light switch was bad and would need to be replaced.

Traveling 38-40 mph damp road, swerved to miss animal.fish tail, spun approximately 270 degrees; hit tree on passenger side door; broke passenger window. Pushed forward, hit tree in front quarter panel passenger side then again hit tree directly front center of car. Esc did not work (received esc recall when got home from accident); brakes locked up (abs didn't work); neither front or side airbags deployed.car totaled: damage to front bumper; engine hood; front windshield; passenger door; passenger window; front passenger tire bent in towards car.passenger received lacerations from broken glass, driver & passenger received several bumps, bruises, sore necks, sore backs.have another hyundai with intermittent tps light - dealer wont fix... Huge concern with safety!

Hi, there is a recall on my car that has been out for a month now and no remedy is available. I am worried about this considering i use my car almost every single day. This is the recall number: 20v061000

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the brake light was continuously burning out. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously repaired under recall nhtsa campaign number: 13v113000 (exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician verified the failure and replaced the brake lamp. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 30,000.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while parked, the emergency brake fractured and the brake warning light illuminated. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was madeaware of the failure . The failure mileage was 98,443.

The car went up in flames while parked in our driveway. It had not been driven for at least 4 hours. It could have caught our house on fire if not for the quick response by the fire department.

Car following me notified me that the brake lights were not working on my 2008 hyundai elantra. Stop lamp fuse i was checked and was good as well as both rear stop lamp bulbs. I inspected the brake lamp switch near the brake and found it to stuck in the off position. After pressing the switch several times the switch worked for a few times and then stuck in the on position. I called hyundai customer care and was told that 2008 elantra's were not covered by their recall for this problem and they would pay for repair.

Car following me notified me that my brake lights were not working on my 2008 hyundai elantra. I have change my brake bulbs 3 times last year and 1 time beging of this year. Stop and check all my bulbs and fuse they were in good condition. I called hyundai customer care and was told that 2008 elantra's were not covered by their recall for this problem, that i would have to bring the car in for a dignostic that will cost $110. They told me that even if their were a recall, the recall does not affect my car and is not in their database.

The gas pedal got "stuck" in the down position while driving, resulting in a problem being able to stop the vehicle. I was going approximately 45-50 mph, passing/merging/accelerating in order to get onto an onramp which curved slightly to go into another main highway. When i pressed on the brakes to slow down a bit for the ramp, nothing happened. My car continued to go at the same speed. I continued to brake, and the car would not slow down. I slid my foot over the gas pedal and could tell it was still completely "down" and making the car accelerate at full capacity. I then glanced down to confirm that the pedal was stuck in the downward position. There was nothing under the pedal, the floor mat was not stuck underneath, nor was it anywhere near where the pedal was pressed down.i clicked my hazards on during the process because since it was an onramp, there was nowhere to pull over. As i continuously pressed on the brakes, the car only slowed down approximately 3-5 mph total, because the gas pedal was stuck all the way down, therefore the brakes were trying to work against the full power of the acceleration. Once the passenger realized what was happening, he helped by putting the car in neutral. This helped slow the car, and i then pulled the emergency brake. The car came to a stop in the middle of a main highway onramp. The cars behind me were able to react quick enough to go around and not hit the car. I tried to replicate the problem in order to help diagnose this issue and have more information to tell hyundai. Once on a straightaway without other cars nearby, i pressed the gas pedal all the way down, and sure enough i was able to recreate the issue and the pedal got stuck again. Upon trying to recreate it a 3rd time, it did not get stuck and seemed to be working properly. But it did get stuck 2 out of the 3 times. It was terrifying to not be able to stop.

While driving my vehicle i was told my another motorist that my brake lights were not working. I checked the fuse and the bulbs. I looked up on line and seen that there was a recall on hyundai vehicles due to the stop lamp switch problem. I called hyundai and they said my vin number was not part of their recall campaign.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v061000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available.the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact called star hyundai (200 s. Clack st, abilene, tx 79605, (888)264-9592) and the contact was informed that the remedy parts were on back order. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired.the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact was informed to park the vehicle outside. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

14 hours after parking the car, smoke was coming from the engine compartment. Fire dept was called, i disconnected the battery and fire department extinguished smoke source. Towed to dealer, who said the abs system shorted causing a fire and destroying wiring harness.luckily it was caught before the vehicle was destroyed.

We received a recall notice that the abs module is continually powered, an electrical short could develop even while the vehicle is turned off. If a short circuit occurs inside the abs module, there could be an increased risk of an engine compartment fire, even when the car is turned off, increasing the risk of injury.

Upon receipt of an important safety recall notice of anti abs module trigger short circuit and engine fire while engine is turned off; i called the sacramento hyundai and spoke with recall agent "[xxx]" today 4/14/20 who stated that the service center do not have the available part to fix or repair this safety recall. [xxx] stated all statewide hyundai service center do not have the parts from hyundai usa manufacturer and do not know when it will be available for the consumer. Please investigate this failure of hyundai usa to address and rectify the nhtsa safety recall or delay which will affect the engine fire due to electrical short circuit of anti abs electrical module on hyundai elantra 2008in california.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Faulty brake light switch caused brake lights to stop functioning as well as preventing automatic transmission from shifting into reverse or drive from park, without using shift lock over-ride.no crashes occurred as helpful motorist notified me of brake light malfunction.there was a recall by nhtsa for earlier model hyundai elantras - the 2008 models should be added to the recall.the shift lock issue was a daily occurrence.i had no idea both problems were caused by the same failure.as my car is relatively new and still under warranty i was able to take it to a hyundai dealership for repair under warranty.if these brake light switches are still faulty, there could be serious accidents.this needs to be address by the manufacturer.the old part is not available as it is in the possession of the dealership.

I own a 2008 hyundai elantra. About 2 months ago, i went to stop at a red light, and instead of stopping, my car made a grinding sound for 4-6 seconds (like my abs brakes were turning on, but longer) and didn?t stop until it hit the car in front of me (roads were dry & my car was only going about 10 mph). Due to the low speed, my car only bumped the car in front and only bumpers were damaged. I immediately took the car into the dealership to have them check my brakes. They told me they couldn?t find anything. Two weeks later, i?m driving and go to stop at a red light (different light, roads were dry, going maybe 10-15 mph) and my car again makes the same grinding sound for about 5 seconds before i tried to pump the brakes. After i pressed and released the brakes, the grinding sound stopped and the car stopped. I took it into the dealership again, explained what happened. They looked it over, saw no computer read out, and told me they didn?t think there was a problem and unless they could duplicate it, they couldn?t fix it. I was told to come back if it happens again (at which point they could take my car for 2-3 weeks to test it and see if they could find the problem. (i asked, they would not provide a loaner!) the problem has since happened twice more (once in the rain, once on dry roads, & always when i try to stop while traveling 15mph or less). I did research and found out that apparently it is likely due to a defective abs module (quite a few other people have had a similar problem, although the years and makes differ) and all of them have had the same issue that hyundai refuses to admit there is anything wrong with the module, but they will replace it for about $1500+labor. I live by numerous schools, so i can?t risk having a car that won?t stop (too many small children that like to run in front of cars), & have no choice but to pay to fix it or get a new car, but they should really do something before someone gets killed because the brakes didn't work.

While driving on i-95 north in maryland, a motorist cut me off suddenly, when i applied the brakes to slow down, the brakes locked and car swerved to the right, crossed all lanes, and rolled over twice.the air bags did not deploy on driver or passenger side.as a result, i received a fractured sternum.

The rear rotors on my 2008 hyundai elantra had grooves worn in with only a little over 37,000 miles on the car. The brake pads on the right rear were worn almost completely while the brake pads on the left rear had enough material left on them to drive another 15,000 miles.i took the car to a nationally recognized repair center for new pads because my brakes started to squeak.. The certified mechanic showed me the pads and the rotors and stated that it is odd for the pads on one side to be worn out and the pads on the other side to have about a year's worth of pad left. The side where the pads that had a year left on them the rotor had substantial groves. The rotor on the side with the worn pads had less damage. He stated the rotors were probably substandard and they were probably made in a foreign country with substandard materiel. I took the car to the hyundai dealer where i bought the car for their perusal. The supervisor stated that the rotors were worn and the cause was likely a maintenance issue and is not covered under the car's warranty. I contend the problem is defective material and or poor workmenship. I contacted hyundai customer assistance for help. They also stated this is not covered under the warranty. I believe there might be an issue with the rotors on other elantra's on the road today and this issue could cause serious injury or worse if it is not addressed.

Brake switch failure

Brakes failed! i put the car into reverse to backup in a parking lot. I was moving slowly (2mph) and the brakes failed, going all the way to the floor. I rolled for 15 feet, pulled the emergency brake and my car stopped, slightly tapping a parked car, immediately in my rear, in the in opposite parking space. I located the owner of that car and there was only a small scratch and no damage. It was not necessary to exchange papers. The car was returned to dealership on 9/27/11 and advised of brake failure. My car has been serviced at the dealership, per factory maintenance schedule. I just received a ma state inspection sticker in august, 2011. My car passed ma state inspection at that time. My car was last serviced on 8/23/11 at 50,607 miles with new tires and rotation, oil change, state inspection sticker, cabin air filter, front wiper blades, fuel injector cleaning, the factory electrical recall for the 099 ws connector cover installed, and diagnostic charge for 'thumping noise' in front, from park to reverse, but nothing was found by technician, stating' all components in proper operating condition at this time' on my repair order. Also received the hyundai multi-point inspection report attached to my paperwork from technician #753 - "brake inspection" was marked in green "checked ok?. This has never happened in my driving experience. I followed factory required 15k, 30k and 45k maintenance schedule now brakes have failed. Why?

My car, when driven in the snow, when you brake, the car starts to brake, but the brake pedal freezes back to the original position, at the top of the pedal, leaving you with no brakes. I took itto the dealership, and they told me, they are unable to reproduce the problem.this to me, makes the car a death trap, when driving in snow. I didn't have an accident or anything, i can easily reproduce the problem by driving on a street with snow, i'm afraid to take it now onto a highway.

My car started to display an eps light on my dash board so i took it for service and was told there was a recall on the eps on my vehicle. I then took it to o'brien hyundai of fort myers and was told that the recall was in 2015 and that they will not be able to service my vehicle.

I had stopped at an intersection. I started to make a left turn and it became extremely difficult to steer. I noticed the eps sensor on the dashboard was on. There was no warning or strange sound. I was probably going 5 mph since, there appeared to be no power in car. I pulled over leaving the vehicle on. I preceded to make my way home. Having no real ability to steer the vehicle. I am very fortunate the oncoming traffic was still a good distance from vehicle. I did hear a clicking noise in the steering when i made a left turn. I took into to the dealer in 2011, they we're unable to duplicate the sound. At that time it was under warranty. That is the only warning i could of possibly had there was something unsafe about the vehicle.

This is a follow-up to odi number 10395729, power steering failure on a 2008 hyundai elantra.this second incident occurred three days and 26 miles driven after the initial repair by the dealership.in this case, i was idling in the left hand turning lane of a 6 lane divided highway, waiting in a line of cars for a left-turn green arrow.the steering wheel twitched, tried to rotate really, in my hands, then felt locked.i looked at the dashboard and the red eps light was on. I had researched hyundai eps light problems on the internet since my first incident, and some posters recommended turning off the engine and restarting the car to activate the steering again.i tried this and the eps light did go out when the car restarted, and the feeling of steering wheel control returned.i was able to drive off the highway but got no more than 1/4 mile total before the steering locked again and the eps light was on again.i drifted to the curb and restarted the car again.the steering came back on again, and i proceeded about another 1/4 mile at slow speed before the steering locked again and the eps light reappeared.i restarted the car again and this time was able to drive the last block to my home and pulled to the curb.while idling there, the eps light came on and the steering wheel locked again.i called the dealer for assistance, and they returned my call and told me to call hyundai roadside assistance for a tow.the dealership kept the car several days as they needed to order a part.the work order states '13090 sop part, replace steering column, part # 56310-2h300, shaft c1290 torque sensor abd'. In one month of driving since this repair, i have had no red eps lights, no steering failure.however, the steering wheel does continue to twitch on its own, sometimes while idling, sometimes while moving. I feel the dealership has treated me fairly, but i remain concerned about the long term consequences of this defect.

The epa light came on as i was driving on a city street and then the power steering went out as i turned left.

My vehicle was turning a corner and the power steering assist shut down totally, i was unable to steer my vehicle. The eps light lite up on the dashboard. It took two people, my boyfriend and myself to steer the vehicle to the curb, but only with a great deal of effort on both of our parts.

The eps light came on and the power steering was gone.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. While driving 60 mph on the freeway, the power steering seized and the eps indicator illuminated. When the contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle, the indicator turned off. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to her destination. Team hyundai (301-b auto mall pkwy, vallejo, ca 94591, (707) 709-8537) scheduled a diagnostic appointment. The manufacturer stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 125,000.

I was driving for about 15 minutes at a speed of under 30 mph in heavy trafficwhen my power steering suddenly locked and could not be engaged.theeps light on my dash went on and i was able to get the car home as i was only about 1 mile from home. The hyundai dealer i called to pick up the car said it was my fault because i missed a recall. I have checked over the elantra 2008 recalls and none of them say anything about steering. Can you tell me if the car will ever be safe to drive again after the dealer repairs it and does it really have anything to do with one of the hyundai recalls.

While driving at 55 mph on a local road, the steering suddenly seized and the electronic power steering (eps) warning light turned on. I took the vehicle to the dealer (williamsburg hyundai 7277 richmond rd, williamsburg, va 23188) who re-calibrated the eps but was told my vehicle was not part of the recall campaign 127 due to manufacturing date of july 2007, which is before the recall coverage date of june 2008. This is not acceptable and should have been part of the recall campaign. Current mileage is around 66,000 miles.

My daughter was driving on a highway (55 mph limit) and slowed down to approx. 10 mph due to a traffic jam when all of a sudden the eps light came on and she lost her steering.at that speed, it was almost impossible for her to steer.she managed to pull the car over to the shoulder and called me for help.i researched her situation and learned that there is a recall for all 2008 elantras and later to fix the eps.the date of manufacture had to be after 1 june 2008.unfortunately, her car was built in aug 2007.that being said, perhaps the current eps recall should be expanded to include 2008 models manufactured before june 2008?i called for a tow truck as it would be extremely dangerous (and pretty much impossible) for her to drive any further.while waiting for the tow, i researched the eps situation online and learned from a blog that turning off the engine and restarting it sometimes resets the eps.she did so and it "fixed" her steering.i'm certain this is a temporary fix only and will not prevent a future reoccurrence of this potentially dangerous situation.

Takata recall.my power steering has gone out and i did not recieve any form of information at the time the recall was sent out.

The power steering failed while driving my 2008 hyundai elantra at the speed limit on a 4 lane, non divided highway in rush hour traffic. I was driving my car to work in normal morning rush hour traffic.there was no warning. While moving at the speed limit, the steering wheel locked up and lost all power to the car.this is a dangerous situation. I had no prior warning of any type that the steering was defective or would fail. It failed while the vehicle was moving. This incident could have had very dire results.

Eps light is on. Knocking noise when moving steering wheel. Vehicle was taken to dealer. Diagnosed problem that would cost me $3000 to repair. I was told the whole steering column would have to be replaced. After long research, recall 127 should have covered my vehicle, but it did not. Please advise.

The dealer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

Driving car approximately 2 minutes after turning it on when the red eps light turned on and the power steering went out.could barely move the steering wheel, as the wheel appeared to lock. This also happened about 1 year ago, exact circumstances. When i turned it off and then on again, it went away. Thankfully, i was in a parking lot when this occurred each time. Keep vehicle in good service condition - regular flushes, fluids maintained at appropriate levels, oil changes, brakes and tires replaced as needed. Did have the brake light sensor replaced - once due to recall, and again when the one provided by the recall failed, causing the brake lights to stay on, which in turn drained my battery - had to replace the battery as a result as well at my own expense.

I started my car at the top of my driveway and drove down the driveway toward the road as usual.no traffic was coming from either direction, so i accelerated slightly to make a right turn onto the road. As i was pulling onto the road, i completely lost the ability to steer the vehicle and to control the direction of it.consequently, i almost went over a 10 to 12 foot high wall on the other side of the road.fortunately, i was able to prevent going over the wall by braking, but i was paralyzed by shock and fright.a neighbor, who is a retired automobile mechanic came and restarted the car and got it back into my driveway.the car started without difficulty, but the redlight (eps) was showing onthe dash.i called the hyundai dealer where it was purchased, but they would not look at it until the following day.when they did, they say that they have "updated the ecu' and charged me $89.95 for doing so.they claimed that the problem was due to a bad battery; however the battery has never failed to start the vehicle and run all devices.i drive alone, and need to drive at night very often; however i am now afraid to drive the car because i see online that there are many complaints to losing steering ability repeatedly after the "update" to the eps (or ecu).i called hyundai, and the agent told me that my vin was not on the recall list, which she said is now completed.on many of the online accounts of accidents and rollovers due to loss of steering ability, those vehicles vins were also not on the list of vehicles deemed to be affected; however they were having the exact same problems.my car had 47,792 miles at the time of the incident, had no steering recall, and was manufactured june 9, 2008.i am the original owner.clearly, this vehicle should have also been on the recall list because the problems are identical to those recalled under #127 recall

I bought my car new in 2008 -- single owner all this time.was driving the car about 30mph in residential area when all of sudden the eps light came on and power steering completely failed.manually steered the car to nearby garage, where they found an error code in the electronic power steering module.google search showed hyundai had a recall for this, and this recall was performed on my car back in may.started car back up, problem was gone, so brought car to hyundai dealer, and they will run diagnostics and contact hyundai for next steps.i called hyundai myself and was given a complaint number: 8206849.apparently what they did on my recall visit in may 2015 did not prevent this problem from happening.it was scary and dangerous to have happen -- this is absolutely a safety issue.

This past saturday, may 10, 2014 i was driving my four year old daughter home from soccer class and all of a sudden my steering went out. After avoiding an accident with woman behind me, i realize that the steering wasn't out but had become very difficult. The eps light on the dash was on and i learned that the power steering had gone. We took the car to our local mechanic to see if it was a simple thing like a fluid change. He informs us that the steering is computerized, that there is a service bulletin about the power steering in our car and we should take it to our dealer and it shouldn't cost anything to reprogram.

I was driving on a freeway when my eps light came on and when i began to exit my car did not want to steer.i took my foot off the gas and strongly steered right.at the stop sign i took both hands on the steering wheel and made a left turn.every turn home was difficult.they power steering was not working.it was almost impossible to steer the car. I called the dealership and i started the car and it steered fine.i went to the dealer and they put it onthe diag. Checck and they say it is c1290 steering torque sensor. At 74,000 miles you cant steer your car?you gotta be kidding me.they say it is not warranted but $2310.00 please will repair the problem. Its not a recall item like campaign 127 because its a different part.?????

I turned on the engine just like any other normal morning and it appeared that the wheel was stuck. I turned hard to the left and heard a cracking noise. I further turned the wheel left to merge onto the street, when i realized i had no steering. I proceeded to try and drive and the vehicle stalled and would not let me drive forward. With great effort, i was able to get it back in to park and park it on the curb. I was lucky no one was around, as the stalling and inability to steer was a scary incidence. This issue needs to be a recall as it is very risky to drive the vehicle if you can get it to turn at all ....so far it will only let me drive in reverse and make right hand turns.

I was making a right turn onto the street i live on, thankfully i was going pretty slow, as i was turning when all of a sudden my steering wheel locked up and i was unable to steer my vehicle. Thankfully i was the only one on the road otherwise id have hit an oncoming car as i wasn't able to maneuver my car, regardless of how hard i tried to turn the steering wheel. The eps was lite up on my dashboard when i was able to stop and look at the dashboard. I had the car towed to the dealer, who told me my car was manufactured one month earlier thanthe current recall #127 and i would be responsible for the repair and tow. I was not willing to drive my vehicle again until this issue was fixed, had this occurred on the freeway i wouldn't be here to issue this complaint rather i would be dead or severely injured hospitalized for who knows how long if i had managed to live once the vehicle crashed.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the power steering failed and he lost control of the vehicle. The contact stated that the eps warning lamp illuminated after the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the computer needed to be reset. The remedy failed to repair the problem. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance, but advised that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 69,660 and the current mileage was 69,900.

In october 2012 i was driving on lincoln drive in phila.i was going around the first corner (to the right).once the turn was complete, i attempted to turn the car in the other direction but the car kept going right.my car ended up spinning 270 degrees before it came to a stop. I turned the car off while i gathered myself and turned the car back on again. A cop checked on me to see if i was ok, then i went aboutmy business.thankfully there was no damage to my car or others.fast forward to 11/30/16.i was taking the backroads to work like i normally do.i made a right turn onto a road then attempted to straighten the car out.the car kept going right, so i had to yank the steering wheel to get it straight gain.a few miles down the same road i was going around a bend to the right.once again the steering got stuck in one direction and i almost lost control of the car trying to get the car straight again. I went to a local mechanic to check out the problem.they told me that they couldn't duplicate the problem but it may be related to a power steering recall repair that had been done my car in april 2015 and that i should go back to the dealership.i went to the dealership that performed the repair and the said that the motor in the steering column is failing due to age and mileage of the vehicle i needed a whole new steering column.total bill: $2400. I contacted the manufacturer and the agreed with the dealership.in order to get my car back from the dealership i have to pay a $115 diagnostic fee and sign off that i am driving a "potentially dangerous" vehicle.

No damage, but i need to report the hyundai practice.while i was on a highway, eps lamp came on and steering became really tough.once i pulled over and re-started the car, the lamp went off and i could steer without any problems.i found out that my car was actually recalled for the eps system, so brought my car to a dealer.the dealer told me that the campaign is 'closed', they need to charge me to diagnose the problem.....'wait, i just need to get whatever you fixed for the recall notice?'no, the campaign is closed so we need to diagnose the system, and if nothing is wrong, we cannot do anything. Is this practice correct?they said they found additional issues with the steering sensors but it's included in the diagnostics package....

The power steering failed while driving my 2008 hyundai elantra at the speed limit on a 4 lane, non divided highway in rush hour traffic.i was driving my car to work in normal morning rush hour traffic.i was about 7 miles into a normal 10 mile commute.there was no warning. While moving at the speed limit, the steering wheel locked up.my initial thought was that the car had somehow stalled.i rapidly pumped the brakes to slow down and warn other cars. It is a manual transmission, so i depressed the clutch and pressed the accelerator.i heard the engine rev, so i realized it was power steering failure, not a stall. I continued to pumped the brakes and fought with the steering to maintain control.i am old enough to have driven cars that did not have power steering, but steering in this condition was more difficult than that.i slowed the car without incident and managed to pull it into a parking lot.i realized that the parking lot was connected to a side street and was only a block away from the dealer where i purchased the vehicle, so i drove the car onto their lot.the dashboard showed one red light, 'eps". Only after stepping out of the car did i realize how shaken up i was, it was probably poor judgment to drive even that one block.i left the car for them to service. From the service write-up: upon insp tech found steering angle sensor is defective. Code c1259, & c1290 present. Tech replaced sensor & cleared code. Oper to mfr spec.the dealership did this under warranty, no charge.they also performed 2 other recalls related to airbags while the car was there.i purchased this car new from this dealer and they are the only ones to ever service it.i have no reason to fault the dealer, i appreciate their work.for the car however, this is a dangerous situation.i had no prior warning of any type that the steering was defective or would fail.it failed while the vehicle was moving.this incident could have had very dire results.

Steering wheel locked while driving 40 mph on road.almost wrecked.

My 2008 hyundai elantra with 19,000 miles on it suddenly lost power as i was crossing a railroad track. (10/2010)i immediately tried to start it again and it did start but as i drove on, the engine seemed to "miss" then keep going, then "miss" again.it did this for about 2 blocks when i stopped at a gas station.i called the dealership and they towed it.they called to say that they thought it was a "steering" problem and the brake automatically engaged.i got another call several days later saying the car was ready to pick up.this was followed a few hours later by another call saying they had test driven the car and it failed.they said they were in touch with the regional office for help.i called their consumer affairs dept. And was told that the service dept. Had failed to perform one of several tests required to determine the problem.they were to call me within 1-3 days.it is day 2 now and i haven't heard anything.i do not trust hyundai and want to get rid of the car.i have been assigned a "consumer rep" who will now be the only person i will be allowed to talk to regarding the car.if the engine shut-down had occurred on a major highway or in heavy traffic through which i was about to go, it could have caused a serious accident.i am not willing to drive a car that is dangerous.can i believe hyundai when/if they tell me my car has been fixed?????i doubt it!

The consumer stated when she applied the brakes it felt strange. The consumer stated there was a burning type smell coming from the vehicle, but the dealer told her it would go away. The consumer stated it has been a month and the smell was still present. Updated

The steering isn't working

The eps light will flash repeatedly on and off while stationary and driving causing loss of power steering. Restarting the vehicle fixes it temporary.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the power steering failed without warning. The failure caused the contact to use excessive force to maneuver the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the steering column and steering column assembly needed to be replaced. The repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,594.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and riding over uneven pavement he heard a loud rattling noise from the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised him that the link needed to be replaced. The link was replaced on the front suspension. A few days after the repairs were made the rattling noises started to occur again. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

The in-dash front-panel console pieces make very irritating squeaky noises when driving over even little bumps distracting the driver from normal driving experience.

My car i bought brand new in march of 09 i had about 9200 miles when things started to bang they change rubbers mounts i took in back they said we don't know what it is we can not fix it then i took it to another hyundai dealer and they said the same thing they had people from hyundai new jersey and they looked at it and could not find nothing its still banging i took it back 7-8 times there lazy or don't know what there doing i do have a warranty.

Takata recall.driver lost control of the car and over corrected and hit a tree which pushed her into another tree.the front end of the car was wrecked and the air bags did not deploy.we were never contacted about the recall on the car so we had no knowledge that the air bags were defective.

Recall for undercoating done jan. 2016 (tt1).on 11/1/17, while driving on a town road, the rear right trailing arm fell off causing the car to swerve abruptly off the road due to extreme rust on the sub frame. This also happened with my 2002 santa fe and was covered under the salt belt corrosionclass action settlement.hyundai is aware there is still a problem, but the undercoating recall does not work and this is still a safety hazard.my car was towed to a repair facility on nov. 1, and i am still waiting to hear back from hyundai as to my next steps to get this repaired.

Door handles keep falling off, even after being repaired at shop. Driver door handle is one of those that fell off and can't get inside car now.

Leaving work i heard a noise come from the car as i was leaving parking lot of the hospital which has a ten mph speed limit after being parked for 9 hours. I realized i felt like i was siting loopsided. So i turned off into my employers front lot to inspect the car. I walked around noticed the drivers side rear was lower. Tires looked ok so i looked underneath and say this rusty dragging strut/cross member piece.. Had to have car towed as i knew it was unsafe to drive as didn't know what else it damage tires, shocks etc.the car visually appeared to be dragging in the rear on drivers side due to this. This part was recalled by hyundai in 2014 due to corrosion. .

2008 hyundai elantra has a know issue regarding the subframe 'campaign tt1'.my elantra's subframe is rotting and has holes rotted through in a few areas. It's a 12 year old car that is otherwise in good condition.hyundai won't help since i had this recall 'fixed' originally in 2014. They reissued the campaign in 2017. I bought this car new. It's been a reliable car and it still runs and looks good. But since my frame is rotting away, i won't be able to pass another inspection and the car will be unsafe to drive.

When you open the trunk after a rain or during it runs out of the tail lights into the trunk on both sides on the trunk lid from the tail light lensesdesign of the car is the problem i had it back to the dealer.

I own a ā€˜08 hyundai elantra. On july 21 my boyfriend and i were driving home when the rear sub-frame assembly failed, it rotted and broke where the control arms attach. The left rear tire was no longer attached to the frame of the car properly. It is available for inspection. It was a catastrophic failure, if we had being going faster it could have been deadly. Turns out hyundai knew the materials they used were poor quality because in 2016 there was a service campaign for underbody corrosion treatment, which was completed on my vehicle.fast forward to 2021, despite the corrosion treatment the sub-frame failed. My mechanic said the failure is not normal.hyundai has not been responsive.

Rear driver side wheel suddenly partially separated from vehicle suspension -- wheel was tilted-in at the top of wheel and tilted-out out at bottom of wheel-- severely limiting vehicle steering/breaking control. Hyundai dealer said that a bolt and strut required replacement. Hyundai motor america (hma) reported that the service manager at its dealer told it that "it appears that the condition appears to be caused by an outside influence".return of replaced parts was requested but only a strut was returned by the dealer. Hma notified butdetermined not to take any action other than its inquiry to its dealer.

While driving i went to stop on a long downhill grade and suddenly a horrible metal on metal grinding sound occurred. The car swerved a bit and was hard to control. I was able to gain control and limped it home with the continuing extremely loud noise, especially when trying to turn, slow down or under braking. I was finally able to have my brother drive car to local mechanic very carefully and slowly and it has been diagnosed as having a broken left lower control arm. Local mechanic thought this might be an item covered under recall by hyundai as he has seen a number of these issues. On investigating further on this site i could find no recall but did find a hyundai tsb (17-01-038) that speaks to providing under body corrosion treatments for 2007-2010 elantra's, for those registered in a salt belt state like mine.(new york). Obviously hyundai realizes that they have a problem with under body components exposed to salt corrosion and is attempting to alleviate this problem after the fact. I was never notified of such a program and this defect is extremely serious as it can cause loss of control and a crash

Have a 08 elantra. After driving it for few miles i had my tpms light went on. I contacted the dealer, he checked and said this may be due to the cold weather. Again the next day the light went on. The tire pressures were accurate. Dealer ordered a front tpms valve. Again after some miles the light started to glow in the panel. Unfortunately when i went to the dealer the light went off. The dealer said there is no problem. Again the next day morning the light went on. I drive a lot of highway miles, it was always really hard for me to park the car in the emergency stopping area and check what was wrong with my car. Dealer again ordered new valve and replaced it (took 3 days). Called hyundai left a message with one of the managers. They told if the problem persists they are going to send me a field officer for inspection. But i think my dealer changed all the tpms valves and he said they are recalibrated and i should not be having any problem. After that i stopped traveling highway miles. Now i drive in the city and a few days back the light again went on. I need call dealer and hyundai and speak with them. This is a serious issue as tpms says what's wrong with your tire, so if the light goes on we think there is something wrong and we pull our car back and check it. It is really dangerous and also hard to pull car back in a highway(need to search for rest areas). I have all the service papers which have the mileage records in them. Sorry to have not posted it.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the steering wheel vibrated abnormally with the tpms warning light illuminated. The contact continued driving to her destination. The contact also stated that on occasion, the front driver's door unlocked independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the tire pressure sensor was disconnected. The contact stated that the set of tires and two rims were replaced however, the failure persisted. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not informed of failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

Our car was sitting under our carport and got know on door that our car was on fire! we call 911 the cam and put fire ot that had also taken all the siding off the side of the house. Firemen said fire started under hood they thought. We believe that this fire was caused by a short circuit in abs module. We looked at recalls tonight and found this out.

I entered vin (xxxx) on the check for recalls page and it tells me that one or more parmameters are invalid. Carfax found this vin and reported one open recall on this car. Why is it doing this? the vin is valid.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Horn will suddenly not work for extended period and then later will work.without warning there will be no horn has been happening off and on for several years but recently has been more frequent ( three mornings last week!)

The car caught fire at 1:15 am august 4th 2018. It had not been turned on since 5pm august 2nd. I was not having any issues at all.

Car caught on fire in the middle of the night, while parked on my driveway the entire day. Fire department said the cause of fire is unknown but it appeared to have start at the left side of the hood.

The car [ hyundai elantra 2008 -manual trans] has just reached 23,630 mi. Today 11/15/2018, { i purchased of the car new 11/2007. I saw that kuhmo solas kh16 tires were on the car.} a tire lost air shortly after an air fill on 11/15/2018 and was totally flat by 10p that evening having sat parked only 7hrs after an air fill. I measured the tread depth level and about 1/16 inch left. Theseidentical four tires wore out pre-maturely and the sidewalls look dry.rot. As precaution i now must find another complete set of tires that will have structural integrity reliable ofwarranty mileage limits. Cannot risk a 260mi drive. Just refilled with air to get me to a tire retailer for replacement tires of another brand.

I was laying on the couch asleep and woke up to a sound almost like firework going off looked out my window and saw the entire front end in flames. Car hadn't been driven since 6pm that night. Noticed fire around 12am.

On june 21, 2019 i was on my way to take my son to work and i had mygrandchildren in the back seat. I pulled out of the driveway at approx. 7:30a.m. And drove about 100 feet when my car started smoking under the hood, i quickly backed up into our yard. I got everyone out of the car, my son lifted the hood and there was smoke and fire. The fire was coming from behind the battery. We quickly called 911. My car is totaled. I only had pip insurance and i am currently without a vehicle. I was not aware of any recalls because i purchased the vehicle from a private owner in 2009 or 2010.pictures are attatched. I noticed the day before that my passanger windows did not work, and the morning of the fire when i turned the car on my break light was on the dash, but my emergency breaks were not lifted. . i drove the car the day before and did'nt drive it again until the morning of the fire.

Hi, there is a recall on my car that has been out for a month now and no remedy is available. I am worried about this considering i use my car almost every single day. This is the recall number: 20v061000

I would like the us dot nhtsa to investigate the anti-lock braking system (abs) on my 2008 hyundai elantra.it is my understanding that the purpose of an abs is to prevent loss of traction and steering control during an emergency braking situation.during a recent round of winter snow, i found that the system did not shorten my stopping distance and did not prevent the front wheels from losing the ability to control the direction of the car on snow.while attempting to exit interstate highway 465 at a speed of approximately 25 mph, i was unable to decelerate sufficiently in the length of the deceleration lane to make the curve of the cloverleaf and lost the ability to steer the vehicle while the abs was activated.i did some experimenting and found that i could stop in a shorter distance with more control, if i shifted the car into neutral when trying to stop.i also found that i could slow the vehicle better and not lose steering control if i downshifted into a lower gear, than i could using the brakes.i took the vehicle to the hyundai dealer near my home and complained about the abs.they drove the car and told me that no repairs were needed and that the abs performed similarly to other hyundai vehicles. When i advised them that the abs did not allow me to maintain control of the vehicle, the service tech agreed, but stated the vehicle was preforming as designed.i spoke to the service manager when he returned from vacation today and he agreed that the abs did not work like it should, but that replacing parts would not resolve my concerns with the abs.i believe there is a design flaw with this abs as it performs on snow and ice and i am requesting a formal investigation.i have observed the same result of engagement of the abs on wet pavement in the past, but to a lesser degree.

I purchaseda new 2008 hyundai elantra in april, 2008.in june of 2008, car surged while at red light.dealer could not replicate problem, no repair made.surging happened again in june of 2008, dealer replaced cruise control cable.in april of 2009, surge happened again, dealer replaced fuel sensor.this was a very dangerous situation, so when it first happened, i opened a case file with hyundai.each subsequent time, i reported it to hyundai, as well.the last time it happened was in october of 20l0.at this point, i traded the car in at the hyundai dealer where i purchased it.i told them that the car was unsafe and should not be put on their used car lot for sale.today, i discovered that the car is for sale on their lot.i spoke with the owner of the dealership who said that he would request time from hyundai to "tear the car down" in an attempt to locate and repair the problem.this car is extremely dangerous.the surging happens when the car is idling at a stop, so a pedestrian crossing in front of the car is in danger, or a rear-end collision could easily happen at a stoplight.i reported this to hyundai consumer affairs today.

This last october (2017), i was woken up by neighbors informing us that smoke was coming from our garage. There was a fire that started in the engine bay of my 2008 (regularly maintenanced) hyundai elantra, and totaled my car, my wife's car, and extensively damaged my garage ($15,000 worth). The vehicle showed no signs of it acting strangely at all. The fire department chalked it up to a "unexplained electrical fire" as it seemed like it started from around where the battery was.

I purchased a brand-new, 2008 hyundai elantra gls on july 8.i drove the vehicle for about 100 miles from the time i drove off the lot through the end of the 24-hour new ownership period.about 24-25 hours after i bought the car, the vehicle lost power during a typical left-hand turn that i made while pulling out into an intersection.the car had about 125 miles on it.the car lost complete power in the middle of the intersection.the vehicle malfunctioned at about 5:00 pm on wednesday, july 9.i had to place the vehicle in park and restart it (still in the middle of the intersection during the malfunction).i drove the car to the nearest hyundai dealer after not being able to get towing assistance through hyundai.the hyundai service department ran tests on it for two days.they found a "misfire code on cylinder 1", but could not find how to repair the problem.the car has been transferred back to the dealer i purchased it from.it has been in the shop from wednesday, july 9 at 8:56pm until today.the car poses a danger to me and others.the vehicle lost complete power in the middle of the intersection while i was trying to drive in normal conditions.had this happened on a busier road, i may have been hit by oncoming traffic.

When my vehicle is on park gear it keeps moving forward down a hill or any slope, i'm forced to apply parking brake to stop it from moving. When this occurs, cranking the engine to start does not help; the vehicle starter becomes disabled. Im then forced to put it on neutral for the vehicle to start. Now, placing the gear on drive to move the car: often and often, the vehicle does not move and acts as it is on neutral; and by turning the engine off, the key can't be removed from the ignition. Moreover, when the vehicle happens to move and is being driven, on a highway accelerating on normal traffic speed, it tends to slow the speed as to loosing contact with the drive gear. All these cause me not to use the car frequently. If i must drive it, i hesitate doing so and limit it from using any highway to avoid potential of being crashed by another vehicle; since my vehicle does not always maintain the normal ongoing traffic speed.i'm urging your agency to please address my situation. Because i strongly believe other hyundai vehicles of this make, model and year may have experienced similar problem of this kind. I hesitate contacting hyundai for now, fearing they may connect my situation with a need for repair and seize the occasion to bill me for their own manufacturer's defects.i thank you well ahead of time for your input on this problem.respectfully yours, vehicle owner

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact stated while driving at speeds of 70 mph with the cruise control set, the vehicle abnormally accelerated to speeds of 90 mph. The contact then placed the vehicle in neutral and was able to stop the acceleration by applying the brakes. The tow truck driver advised the throttle was still in the open position when the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was left in possession of the dealer for further inspection. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileages were 26,000.

Was driving at regular speed (35mph to 40mph) then my i felt a stall transmission and my car couldn't shift up or down was keeping into 3rd gear and my engine light came on!

Accident major tried stoping and car stop alittle then gas excelarates forward never notified about recall caused three accents after

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. While parking and attempting to engage the brakes, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning and crashed into a light pole. I was driving my 2008 elantra when i approached a sharp curve in the road.i applied my brakes and suddenly the cruise control seemed to activate and the car sped up and left the road . I had no control of the brakes or steering.it seemed as if the vehicle froze.i tried to brake and nothing happened, i tried to steer and the wheel was locked.i ran over several street signs. When the car finally stopped by crashing into a tree, the car was off and the key could not be removed.my airbag did go off however my sons side airbag did not.we both sustained minor physical injuries and major emotional injuries.the car was totaled.approximately 5 weeks later i received a recall notice on my vehicle.my car was one of the vehicles with the faulty fuel pump that needed replacement.in the notice it stated that if the fuel pump was not replaced it could cause the vehicle to crash.i began to research the recall and noted several other people that experienced similar difficulties.i also had noticed a strange smell (electrical?) the prior two days of the accident.i have been unable to get any information on whether or not the fuel pump was faulty and itwas would it have caused the vehicle to behave in the way it did causing it to crash.the vehicle was disposed of immediately so it was unable to be examined.i do not have the vin # as i no longer have the vehicle.i did however, through the dealership, find out that my vehicle was indeed one of the ones on the recall notice.the problem was first noted in august and the recall began soon after.i was not notified until weeks after the crash.

This month, when i was driving my car on the highway, it would periodically accelerate uncontrollably. I have never previously had this problem.i have had my car checked out by the dealer and independent mechanics who cannot explain the problem.

While driving there was unintended acceleration.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact was driving 57 mph with the cruise control activated. When he attempted to depress the brake pedal to disengage the cruise control the vehicle accelerated. The contact observed the accelerator pedal engaging on its own. He was able to disengage the cruise control and stop the unintended acceleration. The contact attempted to utilize the cruise control a second time and when the brakes were applied, the identical failure occurred. The vehicle was not taken to an authorized dealer. The failure and current mileages were 44,000.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph with the cruise control engaged, she attempted to engage the brakes but they failed to stop the vehicle. Instead, the vehicle abnormally accelerated to 95 mph. The contact was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 34,000 and the current mileage was 89,143.

We were driving on the highway when the car began to accelerate on its own as if cruise control was on, which it wasn't. We pulled over and pulled the floor mats off in case they were making the gas pedal stick. When we started back up, the car did it again. We tried to pull over again and the brakes didn't stop the acceleration until we threw the emergency brake on. Even then, the brakes were fighting the increased acceleration. We then made our way off the expressway and were able to brake the car enough to turn the engine off. We called a tow truck to bring it to the shop. We are grateful we didn't get in a car accident and are still pretty freaked out about it.

My complaint deals with the front window. It was cracked while driving on a highway by a small rock. The car is five months old. I have heard of two other owners of the same vehicle who have a similar experiences with cracks and expansion in the front window of hyundai elantra model 08.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. While driving approximately 35 mph, the driver side sun visor separated from the insert in the roof. The failure occurred twice. The dealer stated that the sun visor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.

Passenger side sun visor failed. The plastic that holds it to the ceiling of the car becomes very brittle and breaks. The visor fell into the field of vision when my wife was driving. She decided to pull the entire visor off, severing the wires that it was dangling by. This was a safer option than having the visor fly around on the highway. I contacted the local hyundai dealer where we bought the car new to ask if there is a technical service bulletin or recall about this. The dealer wasn't helpful and said the replacement would be out of my pocket, and said there's no recall, then suggested to contact hyundai headquarters. I opened a case with them after informing them that there is already a campaign that exists for the sonata for the exact same issue and a quick google search reveals tons of complaints about this issue in the elantra as well.

I was driving my 2008 hyundai elantra under normal conditions and when i attempted to adjust the driver's side visor by first disconnecting it from the attachment on the right side of the mechanism it fell, dangling from it's support.i then had to continuously hold the visor up with my left hand until i could pull over to a safe place.my visibility was impaired as was my motor functioning as i was left with only one hand free and had to focus on holding the visor up with my left hand.my safety was certainly jeopordized as were others in the vicinity of my vehicle.when i was later able to inspect the visor, i determined that the plasitic mount had broken away on the left had side.an excessive amount of force has never been exerted on this vehicle component, so this incident was disconcerting.

Passenger side sun visor broke. The stem portion that holds it onto the roof and also channels the wires for the light, broke and the dealaer wants $189 for a replacement

Hyundai motor america has failed to resolve complaint concerning campaign 110.sun visor will fall randomly and obstruct the drivers ability to see. Extremely dangerous!

Driver's visor insertion point broke causing visor to drop into driver's field of vision. Had to hold visor in hand while driving until safe to pull over.had to remove visor from car to avoid recurrence. Web search shows this (or similar instances) to be a common problem.

Both visors break and detach at primary swiveling elbow hanging down, unable to secure in any way, unable to detach electrical wire without severe damage, must drive one handed to operate the car.

I was driving about 55 mph on highway and the right side passenger window spontaneously shattered. There was no object thrown at the car or anything, it just shattered. When i contacted the auto glass company to fix it they said they have heard of this happening before but i never have.

The passenger side front window does not roll down all the time.sometimes nothing happens when depressing the button and sometimes it functions properly.

The contact owns a 2008 hyundai elantra. While driving 70 mph, the glass from the sun roof detached from the vehicle and flew off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that it looked like a replacement sun roof. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,800.

My tire burst on the road, and i got into the trunk to get a spare tire only for me to find out, the tire couldn't fit my car at all. The holes in the rim aren't of the same size as my car. So they sold me the wrong spare tire
