The car airbag light intermittently comes on. It does not seem to be related to anything in particular. A mechanic read code b1448 for a defective passenger side seat occupancy sensor. It seems this is a common problem with hyundai's and the accent's were recalled but not the elantra. I suspect the same or similar problem is happening with the 2016 hyundai elantra occupant sensor.
The airbag light goes on and stays on.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. While the vehicle was parked, the air bag deployed without impact and smoke was detected inside the vehicle. The contact sustained burns and injuries to the eyes, chest, and chin. Medical attention was not received. There were no warning indicators illuminated. A police report was filed. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 135,000.
Air bag light came on and stays on. Hyundai had recalls on 2005 and 2007-2009 years models. My car was built on 6/16/2006 and the recall for the 2007 was 7/14/2006. They have known issues with the air bags in a number of year models. The 2006 year model needs to be include in these recalls. Is it a safety issue and having a disabled wife riding with me makes me feel uncomfortable driving it. There are numerous reports of issues with this year model all over the internet.
Airbags lights stay on
Car flipped over 3 times airbags didn't deploy.
Passenger side air bag off- warning indicator would come on at inappropriate times .when it should be on , no rider in seat it would not be lit. When rider in passenger seat, the warning indicator would be on. It would function right sometimes and not at others. Now it no longer works atall . Air bag warning indicator in driver center gauge console is now on always. This leaves you wondering will the supplemental restraint system will work or not . The hyundai's sister company kia had a recall on their air bag system and this left me hope full hyundai would right this problem.
I have a 2006 hyundai elantra that was manufactured february 4, 2006.within the first year the air bag light in the dash illuminated when a pot hole was hit but turned off when driven over railroad tracks.air bag light recently came on again now that car is over 50,000 miles and our of warranty dealership claims that the srs harnesses driver and passenger need to be fully replaced.these parts cost over 1200.00 without labor and neither have been recalled in this year and model.dealership informed me that none of the airbags in the vehicle will work while this light is illuminated.passenger seat is operated by a weight sensor and previously had illuminated properly until i paid the dealership to look at my car.i noticed later that evening that now the lights were not illuminating in regard to the passenger air bag.vehicle was bought brand new and has never been involved in any wrecks.
No accident occurred. Airbag light stays illuminated. Dealer says it is sensor in passenger side airbag. When dealer received part it would not fit because it is a three-prong design rather than a two prong design such as was originally installed. Dealer indicates that hyundai switched to a three-prong design in mid-2006 model year. This necessitates the purchase of a seat cushion for the car that the three prong sensor can plug into. The sensor price with labor is about $300 and the seat cushion part price is $800. I believe that there have been other complaints about this problem and that elantras from 2007 model year forward have been recalled for this same thing. I believed that a class action suit on this problem was filed in california alleging among many other things that hyundai had prior knowledge of this problem with the 2006 elantra and other hyundai models.the dealer described the problem as a possibility that the airbag would not properly deploy for a smaller person. I believe that hyundai should cover the cost of this repair.
I noticed that my airbag light stays on near my dashboard where are the speedometer is and when i have passengers in my car the passenger airbag light is off i don't believe my sensors work for my airbags
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the air bag warning light had been illuminated on a consistent basis. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where they stated that the front passenger air bag was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra . The contact stated that while traveling 35-45 mph, the air bag warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the front passenger air bag sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 42,000.
I rear-ended someone at around 30-35 mph. The vehicle i hit was stationary. The air bag did not deploy but the air bag warning light was left on. No one was injured.
Airbag light on dash illuminated for 10+ years, will not shut off. Passenger air bag off light in center console will not illuminate regardless of even when a small statured passenger is present or there is no passenger at all.
2006 hyundai elantra.consumer writes in regards to air bag malfunction.the consumer stated the air bag inadvertently deployed, as he was backing out of a parking space. He suffered injuries to his face and neck. ..updated 03/24/14 updated 06/03/14
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. While the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, the air bag indicator illuminated, which was a safety concern. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
I failed to turn my wheel sufficiently and hit a palm tree at four miles per hour.no air bag deployed and i hit the steering wheel.the vehicle suffered $3400.00 of damages from this four mile per hour crash.i do not feel this vehicle is safe.
I purchased my 2006 hyundai elantra in dec 06 and noticed almost immediately that the passenger air bag off light would stay on at times when there were passengers are in the front seat. On my first oil change, i reported it to the dealer and was told that since it didn't happen when they sat it the car, nothing could be done and that perhaps my passenger was not seated "correctly".i accepted the explanation at the time, but having sat in my own passenger seat when i was sleepy and my mother drove, i am disturbed that despite being seated upright with my seatbelt securely fastened, the light would still not stay off consistently.i found a technical service bulletin for this issue and brought it up to the dealer again at my last car servicing in feb 08, but was again told that it did not happen at the service shop, so it could not be fixed. I understand this concept, but i am greatly concerned that my vehicle is not safe because the air bags may or may not deploy. The tsb states that this may occur with smaller stature adults, but i have no children or very small friends/family, and i am certainly average sized and the light still goes on and off.my concerns are only assuaged by the fact that i was told by the dealership mechanic that it is just a light sensor and that the air bags will always deploy if the seatbelt is buckled. I hope that this is true, but after reading other comments on this site about air bags not deploying, my anxiety about the safety of my vehicle has increased. I plan to write a letter to hyundai regarding this matter but i am not sure if my concerns will be taken seriously, so i am hoping that this entry will help to bring more attention to this issue.my question is simple. Is it really just a flaky sensor/light or are my air bags unreliable?
Air bag light onbrake lights stay on after car off and foot not pushing them on
Air bag light on dash is lit all the time.dealer has reset the light on two occasions, but it keeps coming back after a few drives in the car.dealer says the passenger seat occupant sensor is shorted out.dealer informed me that while the air bag light is lit, the air bags are disabled and will not deploy, even if in an accident. Now i own a car that will not protect me in a crash and is unsafe to drive.dealer says the only repair is to replace the entire passenger seat bottom costing over $1400.the car is not worth much more than that, but it is worth alot to me because i need it for transportation.
Air bag light randomly illuminates if a passenger is seated in the car. Hyundai dealership demands $100 just to look at the car with no work performed and says that the problem is probably a "lighter weight" person or someone sitting "incorrectly" in the seat. As this is not the case, and the problem occurs no matter who is seated in the passenger seat, there is grave concern that the airbags will fail if involved in an accident - or will deploy and cause an accident. Considering hyundai's historical issues with air bags and recalls on model years surrounding the 2006 model and complaints found all over the internet related to airbag issues for this model year as well, it is without a doubt a manufacturing issue. We would like to see an investigation and official recall in place to resolve the safety issue.
My airbag light stays on and i have been told that the sensor needs to be replaced.the passenger air bag will not deploy if i am in an accident. The repair cost is over $600.00.in my opinon this could be a possible recall issue.
Air bag light came on 2 weeks ago, technician said the code is b1448 passenger seat mat cushion sensor. I am told that all air bags are now disabled and this is a very expensive repair. I see several complaints on this issue in just the latest incident reports. This should be repaired by hyundai at no cost to the consumer.
Intermittent problem where dash air bag light continues to go on and off, whether passenger seat is occupied or not.problem started to occur shortly after rear end collision, and diagnosis from hyundai dealer pointed to defective right front seat mat and sensor. Diagnosis and repair costs estimated to be $1500.00.insurance carrier denies connection between rear end collision and air bag light/seat problem.we are concerned about our safety while using 2006 hyundai elantrawith intermittent air bag light, and numerous other air bag related complaints for this particular make and model.can manufacturer comment and help customers and address this unusual defect occurrence, and should recall be made due to numerous related air bag complaints in the system?
This safety complaint has to do with the b1448 oc sensor mat defect, i have an air bag light on and have used a scan tool and got the code for the b1448 oc sensor mat defect. This issue was given a recall for the hyundai sonata but i have a hyundai elantra and there is no recall but my car faces the same issue. I've read that dealers try to charge as much as $1,000 to fix this issue.
Probable fire hazard: problem with frequent burning out of fuses to cigarette lighter (charger), some dash lights (back light for digital radio channel indicator) either no longer work or come off and on (ash tray light), ac and fan knobs--used to have to tap on them to get them to light, acted almost like a dimmer switch, sometimes had to tap several times to get to turn on, and sometimes knob back lighting on, but dim, and had to tap to get full power to bulbs, cd player overheating and stopped working--gives error message, (had similar cd player overheating with a 2003 mitsubishi lancer i owned in early to mid-2000s, but cd player continued to work--elantra does not work more than a few seconds before ejecting cd.) headlights burning out too frequently (including last time, when headlight removed on passenger side, light went out on driver's side as well.) headlight had short and would come back on when i banged on lens with fist for several months, became more and more frequent until if finally burned out. Concerned of risk of electrical fire as engine area becomes hot. Note that clear-coat on hood over each headlight area and over fuse relay box area became yellow, then brittle, peeling off in past 6 months. Purchased vehicle in july 2008 or 2009? believe it had about 63,000 miles on it then--currently 138,000 miles. Airbag light says off when 200 lb. Husband seated on passenger side on occasion recently noticed in last year.
Airbag light stay on
My passenger occupancy sensor no longer detects the presence of a passenger, so my passenger airbag is always on, when the seat is both occupied or unoccupied. Also, my brake light switch no longer works, so my brake lights do not turn on when i depress the brake pedal. Both of these issues occur incessantly.
My son was driving our 2006 hyundai elantra and crashed into the end of a guardrail.the air bag did not deploy.the car was declared a total loss by the insurance company.i am concerned that the airbag did not deploy with the severity of the crash.i have uploaded three pictures of the car and one of the end of the guardrail that was impacted.the estimate for speed at impact was 35 mph.the weather was sunny, dry and above 80 degrees.about 6:30pm eastern time.
When an adult passenger (weight 125 lbs) is sitting in the front passenger seat, the "passenger airbag is disabled" indicator remains illuminated. In the event of a collision this could result in the passenger airbags remaining undeployed, possibly further resulting in injury or death.
Air bag light is on
Was broadsided in my 2006 hyundai elantra, prior to my accident had car at dealer twice where car was purchased for problems with airbag light going off an on. No matter who sat in front seat it still did that. I was told both times that it was fine only it wasn't, my 14 yr. Old daughter was in front seat the side air bag did not go off. She hit her head on the passenger window causing her to be rushed to the hospital. She is ok but still feeling pain. Only after this accident did i hear about some of the recalls and troubles others have had.
The vehicle was involved in an accident where the owner would have expected the side impact airbag to deploy and offer protection against injury.despite extensive damage to the driver's side of the elantra and the deployment of the front (i.e. Steering wheel) airbag, the side impact airbag did not deploy.the elantra took a direct hit from another vehicle at approximately a 90 degree angle (i.e. It was "t-boned").the force of the impact spun the elantra 180 degrees from the direction it was traveling. The impact begins on the driver's door, but is deepest in the back-seat passenger's door.the maximum depth of the indentation is approximately 6 inches inward and is approximately 20 inches wide.the vehicle that hit the elantra was going approximately 55 mph.
Air bagsdescription: certain vehicles equipped with an advanced air bag system. The occupant classification system (ocs) installed in the right front seat of the vehicle may misclassify a child restraint seat (crs) as an adult. This may occur if the crs is installed after an adult has been seated in the right front seat. If there has not been a 'key on' ' key off' cycle with the right front passenger seat empty prior to installation of the crs.damage: the possibility of misclassification of a crs as an adult may allow the right front airbag or side impact airbag to deploy in a crash and could result in injury to the right front occupant.
2006 hyundai elantra limited vin: [xxx]. On oct 13th 2006 this vehicle was involved in a accident. The speed at impact was estimated at 60 mph, and the air bags did not deploy. The front end of vehicle was crushed, and vehicle has been determined to be a total loss. Updated 07/12/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
-the contact stated that the 2005 hyundai elantra was struck by another vehicle whiledriving at 55 mph on the passenger's side door. The contact stated that this vehicle was traveling at ap10-15 mph at the time of the crash. The passenger's side airbag did not deploy.the crash occurred as the vehicle started through the intersection after waiting at a red light. The contact stated there was only one passenger invehicle. There was never any maintenance or service performed on thepassenger's side airbags.the failure mileage and the current mileage were both 49000.updated 03/30/07.
Air bag light on / emmisionsair bagall senors were swapped and now i'm being told the cushion should be replaced since the sensor swap didn't solve the problem.$1500emissions/ pumping gasfuel pump was replaced.gas pump kicks out after 2-3 seconds when putting in gas.now i'm told i need to replace charcoal canister, canister close valve, purge control valve, and vent valve.if i don't i eventually won't be able to put gas in the tank. $1,100 they are both serious safety issues and hyundai needs to back up their product.these are simple consumable pieces like fluids, values, hoses or filters.
Air bag dash light constantly lit and passenger air bag indicator constantly off even with passengers sitting in it or even if the seat is empty. *ln
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. While driving 45 mph, the contact's vehicle rear ended another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to a towing facility. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were unavailable.
Occupant classification system (ocs) should be reprogrammed. Nhtsa tsb#0590003 and hyundai tsb#06-90-010 cover the "passenger air bag off" light remains illuminated when smaller statured adult sits in front passenger seat, therefore the air bag will not deploy in an accident. Both of these tsbs are for the 2006 hyundai elantra.
Passenger airbag light in the center has never worked properly since i've gotten the car, the light never used to go off when an adult was sitting in the passenger seat which means the airbags were disabled. Now the dashboard airbag light has been illuminated constantly for about 6 months and does not ever go off, meaning all airbags are disabled. It came on upon starting up my vehicle and has not gone off since. This is very dangerous and a common problem with this car, but is not reported properly via nhtsa, instead many complaints are made via forums. Also, when driving at night and my headlights are on, turning the wheel and using the blinker causes all dash lights as well as my headlights and brake lights to flicker briefly.rear windows are not able to be rolled down via the main control on the driver's side, only can be rolled up.
Regardless of whether or not a passenger is seated in the passenger seat, the 'air bag' light on the dashboard goes off - problem began upon initially starting car, and is not linked to any accident ever occurred. A recall should be issued by the department of transportation for the safety of passengers riding in these vehicles.
My car has had engine lights go on and off for years on their own, windows that you use one switch for that make a different window go down and then sometimes they don't go up, my brakes haven't released the cruise control at times and now my passenger air bag light won't go off so i can't pass inspection. This is not something i had anything to do with and want it fixed, it's a safety issue
Prior to this date had issues with electrical such as back lighting of stereo and ash tray, cd player malfunctioning past few years, more recently odometer back light also does not light. Previous report of passenger side air bag lighting intermittently when nobody was sitting in seat, or if purse on seat, less than 10 lbs. Then at about 206,000 miles, my estimate driver instrument panel air bag light indicator on first some times, then shortly after on all the time. After reading numerous other complaints and seeing years prior and post my 2006 had recalls as did other similar cars and that airbags failed, i am very concerned. Hyundai seems to have excessive electrical problems reported and a spontaneous electrical fire is a main concern. I had my stop lamp switch replaced by dealership several years ago after a recall. The replacement should have been free however, i was told that it was only and advisory and not a recall and was made to pay $50 to replace the $7.00 stop lamp switch part. I later went online and discovered that indeed it was a recall and the dealership had scammed me by charging labor to replace the switch. I believe these vehicles are a danger, especially since there may also be issues with cruise control by stop lamp, and i am not certain with several years and miles driving that the replacement part is still functioning properly. I would strongly recommend immediate recall of 2006 & a design change with ample testing to prove these imports are not cutting corners again. I was considering another, such as a toyota, however the recalls on toyota and deaths have made me cautious of their quality as well. If airbags are mandated by you then their repair when obviously defective should rest on the manufacturers. Owned 2 2003 lancers 2.0l and were totaled, one rollover one front deer collision. Vehicle body safe but no airbags deployed either vehicle.
I have 2006 hyundai elantra, i let my daughter drive it and she was involved in a rear end collision and the front of the car was demolished. I was shocked that the airbag did not deploy. I find this very disturbing, i can't believe we have been driving this vehicle with a false sense of safety. I am just shocked that his could happen and i would hope that hyundai would investigate. How many other drivers are out there with that false sense of safety. This needs to be investigated so that other people can be warned of the hazards that if involved in an accident the airbag will not deploy.
Defect of airbag safety equipment.the malfunction of the occupant classification system (ocs) in the right front seat. The purpose of the ocs is to disable the right passenger seat front air bag when it detects the presence of a child restraint system or small child in the right front seat. The right front air bag is disabled to prevent injuries to a child that may result from a right front air bag inflation during a crash. The above is taken from an active recall on another hyundai model with the same equipment.this was the second time this happened while my wife was seated in the front passenger seat while the vehicle was moving.the warning light came on for no apparent reason and showed the passenger airbag was not active.common sense would warrant concern about this being same problem as in recall id # 08v161000 - air bags.if you need any further information, please let me know.this should be looked at, as this is serious potential safety issue in the event of an accident.
I was involved in a motor vehicle accident while driving my 2006 hyundai elantra. My vehicle speed was about 45-50 mph and upon impact with the vehicle in front of me which was stopped caused my body to jolt forward and strike my steering wheel. I was wearing my seat belt which did not lock and my air bags did not deploy. Later on in the afternoon i had went to the er for chest pain, neck and back pain as well as injuring my right hand.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra.while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact struck a deer with her vehicle.the vehicle sustained severe damage and none of the air bags deployed.there were no injuries.she is in the process of notifying the dealer to determine the cause of the failure.a poice report was filed.the failure and current mileages were 61,000.
I was traveling north through an intersection (with a green light) at about 35-40 mph.a man turned left in front of me and i hit him right in the middle of his front and back doors.his side airbags and his front airbag deployed.my airbag did not deploy.the first responders (emt's and firemen) were very surprised that my airbag did not deploy.my car is totaled, although i haven't gotten a settlement yet from the insurance company.the salvage yard where it was towed to for holding indicated that it had a bent frame and they, too were surprised that the airbag didn't deploy.i had injuries to my neck (whiplash) and to my knee, although nothing was broken.
I was in a wreck and was hit in the front right at the headlight on the drivers side. When the hit happened the airbag light came on, however the airbag never deployed. The frame of the car is bent and looks like the car will be totaled.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. The contact stated the front passenger air bag off indicator illuminated whenever a passenger was positioned in the front passenger seat. Anauthorized dealer was notified and the failure was not diagnosed nor was the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the defect. The failure mileage and vin were unavailable.
"passenger airbag off" warning activates with a full sized individual in the seat. When reported to the dealer, was told the passenger had to be seated facing completely forward with legs positioned directly in front of them with feet on the floor (knees bent, rather than legs extended straight out). If passenger body position is so strict, i am concerned that the airbag is unreliable for realistic driving conditions. Dealer finally said they could replace the "sensor mat" in the seat, but did not offer this until the car was no longer under warranty.
All bags in the car failed to open upon impact, don't buy "hyundai"sand hyundai said that since 2002 they knew about this problem. With elantras and other models. But did nothing to fix them.

The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the driver side air bag warning light would illuminate intermittently. The dealer made repairs to the air bag sensor yet the failure recurred. The air bag warning light remained illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure and current mileages were 50,547.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra.when a passenger is seated in the passenger seat, the air bag light illuminates.the indicator reads, "air bag off".the contact reported the failure to the dealer twice.the first time, the dealer stated that it was repaired.the second time, the dealer stated that nothing could be done to resolve the failure.the current mileage is 21,000 and failure mileage was 10,000.

I was in casa grande arizona driving north on trekell road when i was hit in the driver side of my 2006 hyundai elantra while going through an intersection. The front, back and passenger side was not damaged. The driver door, and part of the back door came in about 1 ft. I ended up with a bruise lung, 2 cracked ribs, and grade 2 cut on my spleen. Both front air bags went off, but driver side air bag did not deploy at all. I have alot of pictures that shows no damage what so ever to the front or passenger side. The only damage to my car was on the diver side where the front door and part of the back door came into the car about 1 ft. My car is a total loss.

First time i was parking the car and it just accelerated making the car jump.the next time i was stopping at a stop sign and the car accelerated on its own and i almost ended up in the intersection.this has happen at least 6 or 7 times when i was parking or stopping at a stop sign.i never know when i stop or park the car if it will accelerate on its own.i have come so very close to hitting a vehicle in front of me, sliding into the intersection and/orjumping a parking bumper. I have also had a problem with the windshield wiper washer.i've had it corrected at the dealership a couple of times only to have it stop working within a few days.this problem has existed since i bought the car in february 2006 and needless to say is still not working. The speed on the car is wrong.it shows me going faster than i'm actually going.for example, it shows i'm going 57 mph when i'm actually going 54 mph.
All of the brake lights quit working, i called hyundai, because i had seen there was a recall on this problem. They told me that my car was not covered. Hopefully they will cover it, since there are several cars with the same problem.

Brake lights fail to illuminate when brake pedal is depressed. Dealership says it is not part of recall 09v28000 but it is the same issue. How does this not fit the recall????
I have a bad brake switch, and noticed that the only recall is in puerto rico. Ibelieve that this is a safetyissue that hyundai america should berecalling on all affected vehicles. I have noticed many complaints on this issue. Please review and make hyundai fix this "safety "issue. Thank you.
My 2006 hyundai elantra manufactured in korea in december 2005 falls outside the hyundai recalls for defective brake light switches (it is not a puerto rican-made 2006, or a 2007+ elantra covered by recalls), but uses the same defective part # (93810-3k000) under recall, as detailed in tsb 09-01-018.my car's brake lights failed to work, giving only 0.5v to the bulb sockets when brakes were applied.i tested the brake light switch, and it failed to give continuity between any of its 4 contacts in open or closed position.
After owning two '06 elantras, i've come to realize a recurring issue with the dashboard electrical components. When the turner indicator is engaged, the rest of the dashboard has a tendency to short out for a second or two before returning to normal.
Cruise control failed to disengage when brake was applied. The cause was a defective stop lamp switch. Vehicle was not covered by tsb 09-01-018.
Regardless of whether or not a passenger is seated in the passenger seat, the 'air bag' light on the dashboard goes off - problem began upon initially starting car, and is not linked to any accident ever occurred. A recall should be issued by the department of transportation for the safety of passengers riding in these vehicles.
I have no brake lights in my 2006 hyundai elantra which i just discovered.i replaced the fuses but problem was not corrected. While researching the internet, came across a notification that the brake light switch in these models are being recalled.i called consumers affairs with hyundai and was referred to local dealership.today, 5/12 went to the new port richey hyundai dealer and was told by the service rep there is no recall and all of this was internet garbage.i left with no brake lights.went to the local auto parts and they can not get the brake light switch as out of stock.local dealer does not recognize a recall and auto parts store can not get the part.need assistance please.thanking you in advance. Brake light switch malfunction resulted in brake light failure.part number 93810-3k000.this part has been recalled in puerto rico only, but failure of this part may indicate a more geographically widespread problem.this vehicle was purchased in hawaii.
We purchased 2 hyundai elantras 2006 models in may 2006 as gifts for our daughters. Within 1 week or less, the phone charger in the car was not working on either car. They replaced the fuses in each vehicle and told us that when we charge the phones, they should be plugged in prior to starting the car in order to keep the fuses from "blowing". 13 oct 2006 - 1 of my daughters blew a fuse and replaced it per their protocol. She plugged in her cell phone to charge and the cranked her car. The fuse blew again. This seems to be a problem when we have 2 brand new 2006 elantras that are both blowing fuses. You should be able to plug in a simple cell phone charger without the fear of blowing the fuse every time.

Our car blew a head gasket and now needs a new engine. It is, essentially, totaled. It only had 86,000 miles on it and we had planned on driving it for at least another 10 years. The car had been in a parking garage all day. It was only 80 degrees outside. Within 10 miles of driving, the check engine light came on. Within another 5 miles the engine overheated and blew a head gasket. This was normal, flat, freeway driving. Fortunately my husband, who was driving, had made his way to the right lane when the light came on and was able to get safely out of traffic. Our concern is that this may happen to others, and may have more serious repercussions. I'm not aware of a recall being out on this, but perhaps there should be.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled at least three times without warning while driving 40 mph. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified and stated that there were no recalls or warranties addressing the failure. They offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 75,080.
I have had the same problem and this is the 16th time as of 12/06/2011. The problem started off with the car stalling when i came to a stop then, it progressively became worse where the car stalls while driving. The car has had the canister assembly replaced many times and the problem still occurs. I do have copies of all of the work orders. This is a list of the events:1. 12/01/2007 for stalling. This visit they claimed that it was a "hard start" and replaced the battery. 2. 05/09/2008 for stalling. Replaced sensor assy-air flow3. 05/29/2008 for stalling. Replaced the purge valve and canister. 4. 06/10/2009 for stalling. They stated the canister and car was fine.5. 09/17/2009 for stalling. Replaced speedometer assy and battery.6. 12/16/2009 for stalling. They drove 103 miles and stated there was no problems. 7. 01/25/2010 for stalling and they replaced the canister. 8. 05/10/2010 for stalling. Replaced canister assy.9. 09/10/2010 for stalling. They stated no problems10. I picked up my car on 09/11/2010 to have it stall on my way out of the dealership. Replaced canister assy. 11. 11/30/2010 for stalling and failure of the abs unit. No problem found with stalling. Replaced abs unit12. This was another visit where i picked my car up on 12/07 and before the end of the day, it stalled again and again they stated no problem found.13. 01/18/2011 for stalling. Replaced evap hose.14. I picked up my car on 01/19/2011 it stalled on the way out of the dealership. They replaced canister assy.15. 01/25/2011 for stalling and they replaced the fuel pump and sender module.16. As you can see, i have been in numerous times for the same problem, they want me to pay to fix the canister assy, on this past visit on 12/06/2011. I still have not had the car fixed as i am arguing with hyundai as to who is responsible for paying for the repair.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra.while driving at any speed, the vehicle sporadically stalled without warning.the contact has not had the vehicle properly diagnosed to determine the cause of the failure.the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 28,000.
I recently took my car in for maintenance and everything was good to go. All of a sudden out of no where my car's radiator and gasket blew. I am being told by 3 different places that my gauges are not reading, i was told when i bought the car and when i took it in for regular maintenance that the gauges work. Since this happened all of the mechanics are telling me that there is a defect in the gauges. My car is still under warranty but since the gauge did not read an overheat it cracked my radiator and now hyundai will not cover the warranty.
Engine overheats and causes it to become disabled on highways. Most recent was on 11/18/2010 while traveling from west palm beach, fl to port st lucie, fl on the florida turnpike. The vehicle had to be towed to north palm beach hyundai dealer, lake park, fl. The service manager said that the headgasket and possible the engine will need to be replaced to overheating. The damages are in excess of $2500-$4000 dollars to repair.the vehicle has had water leakage into the interior of the vehicle on the passenger front seat side. It was purchased from al packer ford, west palm beach in 2007. This is not only a costly matter but a dangerous matter as well to be driving in a vehicle that was so hot it could of caught on fire. And especially being disabled on a major highway too. We want someone to pay restitution for selling a product that is dangerous, unreliable and unsafe to operate.
Brake lamps failed to work on my 2006 hyundai elantra.dealer technicians identified an internal failure of the brake lamp switch which they replaced at a cost of $145.i later noticed that there was a limited recall in july 2009 at nhtsa campaign #09v280000 for 2005-2007 elantras in puerto rico, and then in april 2013, an announcement of a pending recall of model years 2007-2013.it appears that hyundai has determined that they no longer need to take care of the 2006 model year even though it was originally identified as early as july 2009.
When pressing the brake pedal the brake lights will not illuminate. Changed fuses and bulbs but brake lights will still not illuminate when pressing brake pedal.
Brake lights fail to illuminate when brake pedal is depressed. Dealership says it is not part of recall 09v28000 but it is the same issue. How does this not fit the recall????
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that when depressing the brakes, the brake light would not illuminate. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was contacted and advised her that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 09v280000 (exterior lighting). The failure and current mileages were approximately 120,000..... Updated 02-20-13 the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired, with the exception of the brake light failure. The repairs were paid in full by the consumer. Updated 02/25/2013
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra.the contact stated that she was driving behind a vehicle when she noticed that the brake lights were not working. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the mechanic confirmed that all of the fuses were working properly.an authorized dealer informed the contact that her vehicle was not included in nhtsa recall campaign id number 09v280000, exterior lighting. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued to occur. The failure and current mileages were 100,000.

Hyundai recently had a recall on brake light switches. Unfortunately this applies to the 2007 elantra and i have the 2006. My brake lights were completely out. After checking the fuses and the bulbs i realized it was the recently recalled faulty brake like switch to blame. $155 later it's repaired. They really need to include other years and models on this recall, and should be paying for this repair. I have seen numerous other complaints online from other consumers with similar issues. Someone could have rear ended me and i could have died had someone not told me my brake lights were out.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the exterior brake lights remained illuminated even when the brake pedal was not depressed. The dealer was not contacted. Upon conducting research, the contact was made aware of nhtsa campaign number: 13v113000 (service brakes, hydraulic, exterior lighting) as a possible explanation for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not associated with the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 108,465.
Brake lights stopped working. Despite receiving recall letters for our 2006 accent and 2009 sonata, the dealer claims that our 2006 elantra with it's particular vin is not part of the recall. Yet it's the only car we owned that had the brake lights fail. We contacted hyundai usa and they were no help.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. Contact stated that the vehicle was being serviced for an oil change when it was observed by an independent mechanic that the brake lights failed to illuminate. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who advised that the stop lamp switch would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. The contact was driving approximately 50 mph with the cruise control activated. The brakes were engaged but the cruise control did not deactivate and the vehicle would not stop. The vehicle came to a stop once the cruise control button was engaged. In addition, the exterior brake lights would not illuminate.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where recall repairs were performed under nhtsa campaign id number: 09v280000 (exterior lighting) yet the exterior lighting and cruise control failures recurred within a year.the dealer was contacted and advised that because the vehicle was repaired once for the failure under the recall, any further repairs would be at her expense.the contact stated she was unaware the repairs that were performed where for a recall. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
My brake lights would not come on.i took it to my independent mechanic.he said when he looked up my vin, it showed a recall on the exterior lighting for my car.i called the dealer from there and they said they didn't show a recall.today i contacted the dealer's service manager and after looking into it and calling hyundai, he agreed and said that this recall was only for hyundai's in puerto rico and that they couldn't do anything.so, why when i pull up my vin anywhere, it shows this recall if it doesn't apply to my car?
I was unknowingly driving around without any working brake lights for who knows how long!after finding no problems with the fuses, i looked online and found that there had been a recall on certain models (elantra included) from 2005-08. I called my dealership and they confirmed the recall, said bring it in the next day and they could replace the faulty equipment. After being surprised by a bill, the service consultant explained that there were only certain cars which were affected and my vin wasn't on the list of those affected. He told me that i could call hyundai consumer affairs and talk to them about getting the costs covered--he had seen that happen before.i called the number and was told that although cars from 2005-2008 were on the recall list, my vin wasn't on the list and, therefore, would not be covered. I mentioned how i thought that perhaps they should look a bit deeper into this problem because obviously more cars from that time period than just those on that current list of affected cars according to vin were experiencing identical problems and were made in that time frame!he went on to say that the best he could do would be to make note of my call/complain/concern. I truly believe that my car is affected by the recall on the brake lamp switch and they need to extend the current recall to cover more cars within that same time frame that are experiencing the same issue.i am so lucky that my friend noticed it was my car and called me to say that i had no brake lights working; otherwise, i would still be driving around completely ignorant to the fact that i had no brake lights!i am so lucky that i wasn't in an accident and i'm sure there are more people out there who have the same problem as me and are driving around without any brake lights illuminating and they may cause an accident.something needs to be done!thank you.
Nhtsa campaign id number: 09v280000 , i own a 2006 hyundai elantra and the brake switch that controls the brake lights went out and my car was not one of the ones on the recall.i just wanted to know if a lot of other elantra owns that were not on the list for the recall had this happening and if they may need to expand the recall list.
My wife noticed her brake lights were not working.i looked into and found that there is a recall for the stop light switch for her make, model, and year.the recall is nhtsa campaign 09v122000.we contacted hyundai customer service and gave them her vin, and they said her vehicle had no recalls.we took her car to the local mechanic to get repaired.it turns out that it was the stop light switch that was defective and it was replaced.it cost us $70 to have fixed.the mechanic stated that he could not believe our vehicle wasn't covered under the recall because he has had alot of vehicles with that same issue.i would like this to be reviewed further and i would like hyundai to cover our repair cost for this defective part.
On a friday all of the braking lighting quit working on our 2006 hyundai elantra. Checked fuse and bulb and all are working. Searched this website and found a recall for 2006 elantra for this exact problem. The issue is a safety switch and it says it will be fixed free of charge per the recall.drove the car 55 miles without brake lights to the dealership in missoula montana.missoula nissan/hyundai where we have purchased two hyundai's.dealer refused to honor recall by first saying it was car specific and second by saying it did not apply to 2006 models.the recall number from this site is 09v280000.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the driver's side tail light did not illuminate. The contact replaced the light, but the failure continued. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 85,500.
Total brake light failure, including high mounted stop light.
Brake lights are not illuminating all the time when brake pedal is depressed, for the past week they only work for a minute or not work at all.went 2 times to the dealer before, twice they were working when i arrived, since last week they are not working except for a minute. I have 2 months with the problem i work 7 days a week and cannot keep taking time off. I was told that my specific model year elantra 2006is not cover by the recall, just to inspect them cost $ 120, if a problem is found parts and labor. Hyundai doesn't accept any responsibility. The car has 50'000 miles.
My brake lights are stuck on but my fuses are not blown.
While driving when i go to brake my brakes don't turn on. All three of them stay turned off. I was pulled over for this twice in the past year. The first time my insurance company told me that there was a recall on my car, but when i called the dealer they told me that my vin wasn't affected in the recall. They started working again when i replaced my battery but who knows for how long. I was just pulled over again on monday for the same thing.

Was flagged by passing motorist that brake lights were inoperable.checked fuses and they were good.was advised there could be an issue with the brake switch.ythis vin was not listed with the recall despite same problem.vehicle was in motion at time of notification.
Brake light switch malfunction resulted in brake light failure.part number 93810-3k000.this part has been recalled in puerto rico only, but failure of this part may indicate a more geographically widespread problem.this vehicle was purchased in hawaii.
All of the brake lights quit working, i called hyundai, because i had seen there was a recall on this problem. They told me that my car was not covered. Hopefully they will cover it, since there are several cars with the same problem.
Brake lights remain on at all times, which is confusing to people behind you.we didn't realize until battery lost all charge and car wouldn't start.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, she noticed that the brake lights were not illuminating while the brakes were engaged. The vehicle was in the process of being taken to an authorized dealer to have the failure diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.
Was stopped by fellow motorist saying brake lights were not working. Fuses good. See other posts when i google this.

I have a 2006 hyundai elantra. I have just replaced my headlights for the thirdtime in 6 months. When i took the car to the dealer after the last time, they "claimed" they had checked all wiring and lamps and stated all was okay. Somehow i doubt it was the bulbs. One went out a couple of days ago and the other blew today. Thankfully, i was by my home when it was getting dark. I am going to have them check it again this week.

On my 2006 hyundai elantra gls 4cyl engine there is a issue which i have brought up 3 times now to hyundai & all they keep doing is resetting the computer & trans retrain reset. The issue i am having is at a steady speed off 25-30 miles hour i get a very bad bucking & jerking effect the loss of power shortly after the bucking & jerking happens that the car looses power some much so it doesn't want to move fast enough to keep up on the highway when coming off a off ramp merging into the highway traffic two times the last time was today this all happened again & i couldn't get the car to move fast enough to flow with the regular traffic that i almost got hit by a 18 wheeler truck today. This problem is making the car not safe to drive & i am afraid if i continue to drive it like hyundai wants me to do in this condition to try to bring the check engine light on to see what the problem is i might get hit by someone & possible killed. This issue is a serious operating condition that warrants someone doing something about this problem & this is a common issue from other hyundai elantra owners of the same year or newer i have read online & hyundai hasn't addressed it well enough or come up with a fix as of yet. Telling a customer to keep driving the car in this condition is not safe just some the mechanics can get a check engine light on with a code to go on. This car almost always feels like it is going to loss total engine power & just cut out on me while i am driving somewhere & i will get hit.
Hatchback/trunk lock gets stuck and doesn't open when pressing the handle. The key itself or using remote alarm or by depressing the power locks inside the car, doesn't unlock the trunk. The lock gets stuck and you can't open the trunk and it takes many attempts to get it unlocked. At the present time, the trunk will not open.tt
I have noticed ever since purchasing this vehicle that the manual transmission grinds when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear everytime, i have also read online that thousands of people are reporting the same problem , so why has there not been a recall to address this problem, hyundai themselves have already admitted that the transmission has a weak syncro that is causing the problem, this will eventually lead to the transmission ceasing and someone possibly being killed, so why no recall, does someone have to die first?
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact mentioned that a crash was prevented due to the failure. In addition, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to switch gears. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs and the wires needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

The vibration got worse as the vehicle accelerated.prior to the frame being tightened the vehicle shook when decelerating and the transmission thumped when going into overdrive.while driving at 60 mph, behind a large truck, the vehicle felt as if it would take flight. The contact had not been able to get satisfaction from hyundai.they stated that failures while driving 70 mph and over were not under their purview. The contact has repair invoices.the failure mileage was 3,700 , and the current mileage was 13,900.
The dealer ripped us off.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. While shifting from reverse to drive the vehicle began shaking. On 10 occasions, the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. While attempting to shift the vehicle into reverse the contact noticed that the gear shifter had became stuck injuring the contacts hand in the process. The vehicle had not been diagnosed and there were no prior warnings. The failure mileage was 78000 and the current mileage was 79000.
Dt*: the contact stated the passenger front seat slid forward on its tracks, causing the contact to impact the dashboad, resulting in a rear end collision at 5 mph. There were no damages nor police report filed. An appointment has been scheduled to have the seat inspected at the local dealership.
When i took my vehicle to get a seat shampoo the seats have brought up a horrible stain from the bottom of the seats and the car is brand new and i have never spilled any thing in the seats.
Regardless of whether or not a passenger is seated in the passenger seat, the 'air bag' light on the dashboard goes off - problem began upon initially starting car, and is not linked to any accident ever occurred. A recall should be issued by the department of transportation for the safety of passengers riding in these vehicles.
Cruise control failed to disengage when brake was applied. The cause was a defective stop lamp switch. Vehicle was not covered by tsb 09-01-018.
Brake light switch malfunction resulted in brake light failure.part number 93810-3k000.this part has been recalled in puerto rico only, but failure of this part may indicate a more geographically widespread problem.this vehicle was purchased in hawaii.
Air bag light onbrake lights stay on after car off and foot not pushing them on
Upon application of brake pedal there was a loud grinding sound from the right rear. I took the car to a reputable brake service provider who informed me that the right rear brake drum could not be removed due the fact that the shoes were extended to far. There was no way to manually adjust them in as there was no access hole on the backside of the drum. They informed me that to attempt to remove them under the conditions created there would be damage or destruction of parts involved. Provider was able to visibly inspect the brake shoes and determined that there was plenty of material remaining. Why would there be no access to adjust?
My brake lights are stuck on but my fuses are not blown.
I have a bad brake switch, and noticed that the only recall is in puerto rico. Ibelieve that this is a safetyissue that hyundai america should berecalling on all affected vehicles. I have noticed many complaints on this issue. Please review and make hyundai fix this "safety "issue. Thank you.
My 2006 hyundai elantra brake lights have stopped functioning all of a sudden. I replaced both bulbs and nothing changed. There is a safety recall for this model vehicle for a brake light switch malfunction and describes in detail the exact problem with my car but my vin does not appear to qualify for this campaign.
While applying the brakes, the cruise control does not disengage. I experienced this as the car "lurching" forward when braking, as the engine is trying to bring the car back up to the pre-set speed. This happened, most recently, while on the freeway in rush hour traffic. The sudden lurch was frightening since it was unexpected. The lurch almost caused me to make contact with car ahead of me. Luckily there was no accident. Even with multiple presses of the brake the cruise control did not disengage. It was only by using the hand controls was i able to turn off the cruise control. This has happened at least 2 times, but unfortunately, i cannot recreate the problem systematically.

Brake light switch failed and while traveling on vacation had car on cruise control and brake pedal did not deactivate the cruise control. Have not used cruise control since but brake lights still don't work and it is affecting cars remote start that the dealer installed. Car will not shut off buy depressing brake pedal. And after turning key to on position and then off and removing the key the car is still running.
Brake switch bad,no brake lights. Occasionally, it would keep the car from starting. Had to replace at my expense as hyundaisaid my car was not one of the recalls for the bad brake switch.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. While driving in the rain and depressing the brake pedal, the brakes failed to respond. Also, the contact heard a clunking noise when the pedal was depressed. The contact noticed that the brake light housing was melted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v280000 (exterior lighting). The failure mileage was 163,468.
Brake light switch malfunctionno brake lights noticed by relative...
Annual safety check today revealedall of the breaklighting was not working on our 2006 hyundai elantra. Checked fuse and bulb and all are working. Searched this website and found recalls for many models and years of hyundai, but not this particular year and model.i noticed also that the left and right turn signal lights would operate without the key in the ignition.these issues were resolved with the instalation of a new switch
2006 hyundai elantra brake lights stopped working.called hyundai (800.633.5151) since this model and year was under hyundai recall# 092 (htsa 09v280000).provided vin number and representative (kayla)told me that that specific vin was not eligible and that i could send a postage letter to a po box for appeal.obviously i am going to take the car to my mechanic to repair to avoid any injury.
I had no brake lights the cause was a broken brake light switch by the brake pedal which i had to replace myself.
While backing up in reverse, the brake did not work. Insteadthe car accelerated and the engine reved up to what seem to be a very high speed. The car stopped when it smashed into our other car, which was about 4 feet behind it. It was about 5 pm on a dry road. My husband was wearing work boots at the time.there was only a few scratches on the rear bumper. The hood of the other car was pushed in.our mechanic could not find computer codes or any other problems. The hyundai dealer also said there were no issues he knew of.other acceleration problems with elantras we read about make us think the brake and accelerator design on these cars are too close together.they seem to be only about 3- 4" apart, where other makes are at least 6" apart.we believe his boot may have gotten stuck on the gas when switching to the brake.this also happened last winter when our 2000 hyundai elantra was backing up and would not stop. It was stopped by a snowbank. My husband was also wearing snow boots at the time.
I had an accident when i first purchase the car which i have always felt the car should have stop sooner.the brake did not stop right away and it only stop when i hit the truck which very little damage was done to the truck but my hold front was damaged.the car has been repair but right now today the brakes do not stop sometime like it is suppose too.i can put on the brakes and get that same thump that i felt when i had the accident and it will take a while for the car to stop.i sometimes pull closer to the curb in case it don't stop so i can hit the curb instead of another car.also the car does not heat up after warming up it takes almost a half an hour before the heat kicks in when you put in on heat but it will heat up when it warms up if you turn the dial to the air conditioning sign.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra.while driving approximately 25 mph, the brakes were applied but the vehicle would not stop.the vehicle rolled to a stop and was pulled over.the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the master cylinder failed.the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the master cylinder failed due to a manufacturing defect.the vehicle was repaired.the failure mileage was 67,800 and the current mileage was 68,000.the vin was unavailable.
- on 01/05/07 the contact took the vehicle to dealer in danville, virginiabecause the brake pedal was getting stuck on the floor , and the dealer replaced the master cylinder.the contact stated that on 01/06/07 while driving 35-40 mphh appliedthe brakes, but the vehicle continued to accelerate, causing the vehicle to crash into a tree.the contact could provide pictures of the vehicle , as well as an accident report.
Dealership had to repair my rear brakes on my 2006 hyundai elantra at 14000 mi.. They said this was a common problem with elantras. If this is true maybe this is a problem that hyundai should need to address. Maybe this could cause a braking problem down the road.
On this date i experienced the 4th of 5 incidences of unintended acceleration in the 8 years i have owned this car. I was driving in daytona beach approaching a red traffic signal.there was a car stopped in front of me. When i applied the brakes, the car lurched forward and the acceleration revved the engine.i had to turn off the key to stop the car in heavy traffic. I pulled off the road and removed the floor mat as had been suggested by the service technician the last time i had taken it in for this issue. I drove it home safely, but the next morning in a grocery store parking lot when i applied brakes to stop, again the car lurched forward almost hitting a bmw. I again drove it home safely, parked it and called the dealership.i made arrangement to take it in on july 7th to have it looked at again.out of fear for the safety of myself and others i had the car towed to the dealer. They kept it for 2 days, drove it 240 miles and once again could find no issue. The car is parked in my driveway out of fear of killing someone or damaging property.when i told them i had found multiple instances of this happening with hyundais online, they claimed to have no knowledge of such a thing.one article stated that the manufacturer fixed this problem in 2012. While i cannot afford to purchase a new car, i am afraid to drive this one, and would not want to sell it to anyone else because of the safety issues i have experienced.
When my wife was trying to apply the brake on a 2006 hyundai elantra her foot contacted both gas and brake pedals, which resulted in crashing into building in front ofa parking space. Personally i had experienced this a couple of times prior to the accident.the gas pedal is slightly higherand close to brake pedal and it appears to be very easy to push both down. I almost drove into the side ofan oncoming car entering the road. On my toyota highlander the brake pedal is higher than the gas pedal , maybe the transition to this other pedal arrangement is part of the issue.
The steering wheel is peeling, after 2 years and 54,000 miles.we bought our 2006 hyundai, in july of 2007.the peeling began at about 30,000 miles and is steadily getting worse.it makes it difficult to turn smoothly, as the part of the rubber is missing and your hands cannot grip the wheel properly.hyundai has refused to replace the steering wheel, as they said this was caused by using chemicals such as armorall on the wheel.this is not right.they have used poor quality wheel covering material that cannot withstand every day use. Everyone uses armorall to shine up their car.now, we are putting ourselves at personal safety risk, as the wheel cannot be gripped properly, as it is peeling away on one part.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra.while driving on a dirt road at 50 mph, the contact lost control of the wheel and the vehicle began to spin.the vehicle then rolled repeatedly for a couple hundred yards until it finally crashed into a tree.the vehicle was left at the scene of the crash.the highway patrol officer was called and the vehicle was towed to the original dealer's body shop.the insurance company stated that the vehicle will be moved to a different mechanic and she believes that it will be considered a total lost.the mechanics never mentioned the cause of failure.the current and failure mileages were 1,300.
While driving on the freeway at about 55mph, the car jerked to the side by itself. I attempted to correct the jerk with the wheel, at which point i was unable to do so. It appeared that the wheel was no longer controlling the movement of the car. The car jerked again, i was once again unable to do anything about it. The wheel itself could turn freely, but the movement of the car would not respond to the movement of the wheel.the car jerked again, ultimately spinning out and crashing into the median headfirst. The car was totaled, but i was luckily uninjured except for some scrapes, bruises, and what may have been a mild concussion. The car had behaved oddly twice before: about a month before the crash, the car had jerked to the side similarly, at a somewhat lower speed (about 45 mph). I dismissed the incident as human error, or something in the road that i hadn't seen, even though it felt very strange and unlike anything i'd experienced before. I was able to correct the jerk and forgot about it. A few days before the crash, the check engine light came on, and remained on for about 30 minutes, but then went off. During that 30 minutes, i was stopped at several stop signs. When accelerating from the stop sign, i had to press the accelerator much harder than normal to even achieve a low speed. This happened 2-3 times, however, then the car started accelerating like normal, and the check engine light turned off, so i did not do anything about it. These incidents may or may not be related to the crash.

I failed to turn my wheel sufficiently and hit a palm tree at four miles per hour.no air bag deployed and i hit the steering wheel.the vehicle suffered $3400.00 of damages from this four mile per hour crash.i do not feel this vehicle is safe.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle fishtailed uncontrollably and was pulled over. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who diagnosed that road salt rusted the subframe. The manufacturer was contacted and issued a claim number, but the vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
Extensive rust on the lower engine subframe crossmember:the subframe has rotted loose and the front suspension control arms rattle the subframe from where they are attached. This elantra was purchased new and only has 44000 miles. The control arms will tear away from the loose subframe and cause a loos of control accident.
The rear cross member that supports the rear wheels on the 2006 elantra we own is completely rotted through to the point that the nutserts have fallen away from the frame of the vehicle. The resulting freeplay in the rear wheels caused the car to fishtail all over the highway while my wife was driving it. After no help from hyundai regional manager and corporate office, we researched this condition online.seems that 2000-2003 elantras and several years of the sonata models have this very same defect.our year and model is not included in severe frame rot recalls, but it should be.based on our research, these parts rust from the inside out and generally start on the right side.ours is so crumbled, it has rotted in half.according to the nhtsa website, this car meets the criteria for either a recall or a buyback.i'm quoting this from the site: "critical vehicle components that break, fall apart or separate from the vehicle, causing potential loss od vehicle control or injury to persons inside or outside the vehicle."my wife was lucky she wasn't going 65 on the interstate when this happened.judging by the existing class action suits we've seen online against hyundai for this very same rust problem in other model years, it's obvious to me that they are using the same rear wheelbase support design and flawed steel components in all their mid-sized sedans.
Went for an inspection and was told my front sub frame was rusted and rotted. They told me it was under recall, but upon further research i found there have been recalls on this same part for other years of this car but apparantly the 2006 was not included, even though i have the same issues, and they charged me for other repairs under the pretense that the sub frame would be fixed by a dealership for free due to the recall.
Driving on 495 washington beltway, heard a loud noise, i thought something had hit the car i look all around and saw the sunroof had exploded. There was no sign that something had hit the sunroof. It looked like it was pushed up from the inside. I took it to the dealer and they said this had never happen before and the hyundai rep said it couldn't happen by itself and refuse to cover the damage under warranty. The cost was almost $1000.

On april 17 2010 i took three photos of a flipped over 2006 hyundai elantra on route 3 in clifton nj.the flipped car looked unusual, and could indicate an unsafe condition.other cars were involved, but no fatalities.the passengers were able to exit the car.i was not involved in the accident, it was not my car. You should have a method to upload pictures.

Air bag light stays on. I was told that this is a safety issue and that the air bag will not work if there is an accident. I have noticed on this site under complaints that there are numerous complaints like this. Also that the 2005 & 2007 have been recalled for this, explain to my why the 2006 models have not been recalled.hyundai should stand behind their products and if there is a safety issue repair it free of charge.
Had been experiencing rough idle despite fuel system cleaner and clean throttle body.removed and cleaned idle air control valve with throttle body cleaner, which smoothed out rough idle but stuck throttle at high and increasing rpm (getting louder) in park gear when parking after driving.suspected and replaced throttle position sensor but it was electronic, not spring activated, and continued to experience same high rpms before parking.was driving on 50 mph highway with traffic lights (rt. 50 in virginia), came to a red light and could not stop car---rpms increased while in drive gear despite brakes being all the way to floor.would have run through red light at high speed if had not shut off engine before intersection. Replaced with new aftermarket iac (idle air control valve) and have had no problems since.
My 2006 elantra hatchback has a sudden acceleration problem. I experienced several times that my car suddenly accelerated while normal driving, for example, i was driving at 40 mph but the car sudden ly accelerated to 60 mph. On 1/25/2010, i was driving home at 2:30 am, setting the cruise at 70 mph and the engine speed was showing the engine was about 2750 rpm but it suddenly accelerated to 4000 rpm and the car was hard to control if i was not paying attention to it. I turned off the cruise setting at once, later i turned on the cruise again to set at 70 mph and later it suddenly accelerated from 2750 rpm to 4000 rpm and then slowed down back to 3000 rpm and again accelerated to 4000 rpm then back to normal speed at 2750 rpm. Also, my car could not go forward straightly, it always goes to the left side. I have to turn my steering wheel to the right in order to go straightly.
On the afternoon of 2/19/2011, was driving above vehicle. While adjusting into a parking space (going veryslowly), car suddenly accelerated to top speed (140 mph?) i then attempted to stop car by driving on thenearest sidewalk to avoid hitting cars on street.at this top speed i crashed into a chain link fence tearingit down and then turned and finally stopped by hitting a tree.my air bags deployed but car was totaled andi was taken to a nearby hospital in northeast phila. With severe injuries.my right arm was broken intwo places requiring surgery and my ribs were severely damaged.both legs were extremely bruised.i spent two weeks in two phila. Area hospitals and then a month in a nursing home in warminster, pa.until i was able to walk without assistance.am still required to use a cane.

2006 hyundai elantra vin# [xxx]has had erratic side mirror control since purchased 9-06. Mirrors move 1/3 of the time in unpredictable directions, not according to up/down/left/right arrows on control.in order to reset control to behave as designed, one must hold control down so mirror moves to full extent of range and rocks back and forth, which cannot be done easily in traffic without blocking the view of traffic.took car to dealership but they were unable to replicate the problem and it continues.rear view mirror also is a problem in that it fogs when inside and outside temperatures differ and must be wiped with a cloth. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I am 5' 1" tall or short!! the sun was shining in my eyes and i needed the driver side visor down. It would not open so i had to apply a little pressure. The triangular clamp and the visor rod broke. I read that there have been several complaints in this regard but hyundai refuses to replace it for free. The mileage is less than 60,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra.the contact stated that the heat will blow only when the vehicle is in motion.she is unable to defrost the windows in the mornings because the heat does not blow through the defroster.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for repair at least four times, but they stated that the issues were a normal occurrence for her vehicle.the dealer called the manufacturer and they arrived from california to inspect the vehicle.the contact was informed that the case would be closed since the vehicle was designed to function in that manner.the failure mileage was 36,000.updated 02-26-09 updated 02/26/09.
The contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. While driving at approximately 30 mph, the contact heard an explosion and was struck in the head. The contact stated that the rear view mirror on the passenger door exploded, struck her on the head, and landed on her lap.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. I read the structure report about the sun roof exploding and want it on record that starting the past week or so, i hear very loud pops that i think are the sun roof or the structural integrity of the car. The moulding on the right drivers side along the roof edge will not stay locked down either, i keep waiting for the sun roof glass to shatter all over me, it has been extremely hot here but i have never heard this problem before and it is alarming, i travel the interstate alone quite often and worry about this now that i read about this happening to someone else. The dealer is by my work so i think i will drop it off so that it is on their records too if this does explode on me as well. Obviously this is another 2006 issue, ifthe elantra i bought in 2000 was like this one, i would have never bought another.
Windshield wiper failure.
I am 60 years old and have been driving since i was 16 and havenever had a problem like this ever.the 2006 hyundai elantra with standard steel wheels definitely ha a design problem.in the winter, snow slush builds up inside the wheel, causing the car to vibrate severely above 30 mph.the first time this happened i thought it was a fluke.it has now happened 3 times.something is wrong with the design of the wheel.i am a mechanical engineer and live in gurnee, illinois.
