The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the sensor control module needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. I call a dealer last year (lee hyundai) florence, sc. And was told that if i want to have it fixed that it would cost me about 500 dollars, i also thought that i had made a report with nhtsa before and then when it came on tv, it was said that hyundai was liable for fixing it.

Passenger seat ppd is defective and causing my air bag light to be on.dealership says i am not under recall but there are hundreds of similar complaints online about hyundai and airbag related issues.

The contact owns a 2005 hyundai elantra. After starting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the airbag light illuminated on the dashboard. After calling the dealer the contact was informed that the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 05v395000 (air bags) did not apply to his vin. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 86,000.

Dt*:the contact stated the air bag light is currently illuminated.a nhtsa recall, # 05v395000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the air bags however, the recall did not remedy the problem.the dealership would not offer a second repair without charge under the recall.the vehicle has been to the dealer several times for this problem since the recall work was performed.

When i drive the car with an adult passenger in the front seat the instrument light indicates that the passenger air bag is off. It stays lit for a few miles, then goes off and then on again.this keeps happening throughout the trip.

I drive a 2005 hyundai elantra.the airbag system in the car is faulty as indicated by the airbag light.the passenger side airbag system was recalled in 2005.in 2007 i took my car to fairfax hyundai to have it repaired.after the car was repaired i noticed that the airbag light was on. At the time i did not know it indicated that the airbag system was faulty and the people at the dealership didn't mention there was a problem with it. (at that time the airbag system was still under warranty) since then i have taken my car to be safety inspected and i revisited the fairfax hyundai dealership to have other items on my car fixed. No one mentioned it was an issue.when i went to the dealership they were sure to tell me about other (expensive) problems on the car but never said anything about the airbag light.recently i went to have my car safety inspected again (as required by virginia law) and the inspector has now caught the problem.i took it back to the dealership and they want 100 dollars just to look at it.the are telling me repairs could be up to 500 dollars.this is outrageous!what are my options?as i understand it, i am driving around with no airbag system.for two years i have been driving around family members, some are children, without airbags.

Dt*: the contact stated the passenger air bag light illuminated indicating the air bag was inoperable.a nhtsa recall, #05v395000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the air bag however, the recall did not remedy the problem.the vehicle had been to the dealership three times since the recall letter was received however, the problem persisted.

23,000 original miles. Never involved in a crash. Front passenger air bag light indicates air bag off even with an adult passenger seated and belted in the seat. Indicator light comes on and off intermittently, for several minutes at a time, while driving vehicle continuously. Happens on city streets and highway driving. Cause for serious concern for safety of driver and passenger of this vehicle.

My air bag light is on. I sent to the hyundai ithaca dealership and was told that the passenger seat ocs needs to be replaced. But i found out from the web that my hyundai elantra 2005 has a history of malfunctioning in air bag and was being recalled at some point. I talked to the dealership about the recall and they told me that my car was never recalled and i had to pay more than $400 for the repair. I wasn't confident that the air bag issue will be solved even after sending for repair after reading all the complaints about the air bag online. What can i do about this?

Air bags did not deploy and the vehicle was hit so hard that both the driver and passenger sustained injury to their chest area from the force of the seat belt strap holding them back rather than the airbags assisting in the impact.the vehicle was a determined a total loss by the insurance company.

Son was involved in crash.rearended another car.totalled both cars. Thankfully, no injurieshis airbags in 2005 hyundia elantra did not deploy.contacted hyundai and they said they are not responsible.have read on internet many other stories just like this involving hyundai models.

- the contact owns a 2005 hyundai elantra, hatchback , 5 door, gt. There is a recall notice for the air bags.however, the contact doesn't feel safe driving the vehicle after the dealer continues to reset the air bag.the light continues to come on, and she has another appointment to reset the air bag light.the passenger front seat reads that the passenger air bag is not on.the vehiclewas reprogrammed twice and the air bag light turns on and off even when there is a passenger in the seat.they may have to replace the seat. The mechanic has stated that the contact has to bringthe vehicle to dealer again.hyundai stated that the dealer and manufacturer have an agreement. This failure has occurred 15 times.

The hyundai elantra rear ended another car going approx. 30 mph. The driver hit the car in front of them at full speed, without braking. The driver did not know the car in front of them abruptly stopped, causing the accident. The driver was thrusted forward on impact into the windshield. The driver air bag did not deploy.

Purchased 2005 hyundai elantra november 14, 2007. Dealership carfax showed 40,836 odometer miles. Dealership odometer disclosure statement showed 8,494. November 18, 2007 drove i-26 in columbia, sc. Drove on emergency strip to avoid debris on road.rear end spun out and lost control of car. Crashed into 18 wheeler and pushed across interstate, up an embankment, under a catch fence and stopped on a service road.a total loss. Not until 11/29/07 that i was made aware of a possible recall on the steering linkage tie rod assembly. Air bag did not deploy. Dmv.org report of 11/24/07 shows odometer reading 40,836 and no odometer problem title record. Carfax report stated no recalls reported. I contacted the dealerships headquarters about the odometer discrepancy. Shortly thereafter, the carfax info was changed showing odometer reading 8,584 and also they backdated information. Showed odometer discrepancy on the altered report.just clerical errors? if we suffered a total loss, how come our air bags did not deploy? did we have a true steering linkage tie rod assembly failure? did we truly have 40,836 miles on our odometer? was scheduled maintenance up to date for 40,835 miles?

Air bag light has been on and i need safety in the car, wondering if recall has been reported

After finishing driving the vehicle and removing keys from ignition the car will ding, the same ding that happensif you leave your keys in the ignition. If i exit the vehicle and try to lock the doors and arm the alarm with the remote keyless entry the car will not lock or arm the alarm, if i try to manualy use the keys to lock the vehicle it unlocks the car. The only way that i can fix this is if i turn the car back on and then turn it off. This occurs totaly randomly and occurs about once every month. It started about 6-8 months after i got the car in march 2006. Its not that big of a hassle now except sometime i might go to lock the car and think it locked when it didn't. I don't want this to be the start of a bigger electrical problem because i am also having the airbag issue that many people are having.

My 2005 hyundai elantra hydroplanes even at low speeds and skids very easily on slightly wet pavement. My daughter has complained about this to me many times. Tonight she hydroplaned and went into a wooden pole. She wasn't injured and the airbag did not deploy; however, the front fender was damaged. I am going to have it fixed then see about getting rid of the car. It does not seem to be safe.

Air bag light stays on at any speed.

I received a notice on 2005 hyundai elantra having the rt front passenger air bag recalled. I contacted the dealer we bought from and took it in.they made an adjustment on the sensor on feb 28, 2006.this did not solve the problem so i took the car back and they sent the seat to california to have the sensor issue taken care of. We still have a problem and hyundai is aware of it and is dragging their feet deciding what they are going to do about the problem.i want it solved.i told them we are going out of town on april 1, 2006 and if the problem is not solved they need to provide us a loaner.it is now march 27, 2006 and i still don't have an answer as to what they are going to do.

Dt*: the contact stated the check engine light remains illuminated and the ocs light works intermittently. An nhtsa recall, # 05v395000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the air bags however, the recall did not remedy the problem.the dealership would not offer a second repair without charge under the recall.

Front/side airbag sensor/module appears to be defective. Since new occupant sensor will not reliably classify an adult sitting in the front passenger seat and most often turns airbags off or turns on and off during a trip. I have noted that this occurs with a variety of adults weighing from 100-150 lbs. Ihad the car into the dealer twice for reprogramming in december 2005. Problem still exists.

When passenger sits in the passenger side weighing anywhere from 100-220lbs while driving and while sitting still the passenger side air bag light will go on and off, the indicator normally statesthat the airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident.i read other complaints and found that there was suppose to be a recall on thismodel car,but i never received a notice. When i first got the car i called the dealer and they said that if the light is on then the air bag will deploy, but this contradicts what is in the manual, and what is stated from other consumer complaints. I got in a wreck about 6 months after having my car, i got hit from behind fairly hard, and the air bags did not go off, but the manual says they will not deploy in most rear end collisions, so i didn't think much of it. This makes me scared that i am going to have a loved one in the passenger seat when a wreck occurs and the air bag is going to fail.

Air bag did not deploy in high speed crash.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 40 mph, another vehicle pulled out in front of the vehicle causing a crash.the air bags did not deploy.the driver sustained minor injuries, and a police report was taken.the vehicle was deemed totaled.

Airbag light comes on intermittently, with an adult in the passenger seat.took vehicle to dealer and was told there was nothing they could do.

The contact owns a 2005 hyundai elantra.while driving 35 mph, the contact's vehicle was struck on the driver's side.the impact caused the vehicle to spin around before coming to a stop.the air bags failed to deploy.the police and fire departments arrived on the scene and filed a report.both parties were injured and transported to the hospital.the contact's nose was fractured in three places.she also sustained three broken ribs, a punctured lung, a broken hip and pelvis, and a fractured ankle.the current and failure mileages were 36,000.

Took sharp turn right to miss a car that was headed for me hit a telephone pole, neither air bag deployed. Injuries included concussion, whip lash, broken hand, bruised ribs, glass and cuts in head from windshield, lip was torn in half and bruised, two day hospital stay and a totaled car.

Talked to dealer (hyundai lee), and was told recall was closed and i would have to paid to have fixed. I brought this car from dealer.

I was driving down hwy i-45 south in dallas, tx and hit black ice. That is ice that cannot be seen on the road. I was going approximately 50 to 55 mph. I hit the brakes and hit the back of a metal trailer. The welded mesh landscaper trailers popular in dallas. In other words i hit a flat vertical hard service. My airbags did not deploy. I told hyundai of the issue and they sent out someone to inspect the vehicle. They sent a letter stating "the elantra's frontal airbags are not intended to deploy during every impact that is generally directed against the vehicle's front end." i am confused, i thought a air bag should work with all front end impacts and collisions. When i purchased the vehicle i did not get a disclaimer stating when the airbag should work and should not with a 50 mph front end collision. I am upset with the way hyundai is responding. I did not expect a new car, only for hyundai to acknowledge the problem.

On december 10, 2011, i was turning from northbound gary av.onto eastbound lawrence ave. At approximately 5 mph. While i was turning my accelerator stuck the engine sped out of control to atleast 40 mph. I swerved to avoid hitting a truck turningonto gary and my car went over the south curb.. And my attempts to break were failing all this time... I crashed through a fence into somebody's back yard went down hill about 50 feet and ran into a tree. I then turned off the ignition.the airbag did not deploy.the investigating bloomingdale police officer started the car and the accelerator was still stuck in the wide open position.the body shop personnel also confirmed the accelerator was stuck.

Dt*:the contact stated while a passenger weighing 120-125 pounds is sitting in the front passenger seat, the air bag sensor is inoperative and the airbag light intermittently illuminates indicating a lack of passenger airbag protection.although the vehicle was seen by a dealer and the problem was duplicated, the dealer determined the airbag sensor was within the manufacturer's specifications.

My air bag light will not go away

The occupant classification system (ocs) installed in the right front seat of the vehicle will not turn off and will not detect a person in that seat and turn the "passenger seat air bag off" light off. This has been a reoccurring problem in other hyundai vehicles and recalls have been issued. For some reason, the elantra has not been included even though it uses the same system and there have been many complaints. This is a definite safety issue and needs attention..

The contact owns a 2005 hyundai elantra. While making a turn at 5 mph into a parking lot, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without intent. The vehicle crashed into the town building causing minor damage to the building. The front end of the vehicle sustained major damages and could not be driven away from the crash site. The airbags did not deploy at the time of impact, and the passenger of the vehicle suffered minor injuries to the shoulder. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they would investigate the accusation of unintended acceleration further. No repairs had been made. The failure and current mileages were under 33,419.

Just purchased this vehicle used and the air bag dashboard light went on. The dealer charged me $140 to diagnose informing me that the seat sensors need replacement adding that the entire seat assembly may need to be replaced. I feel this is a failure of hyundai's research and development plus quality control of a major safety system device. Its replacement should be free based on this. As a note the light comes on immediately at start and while driving, stays on constantly

Air bag light keep on coming and going off

The passenger's air bag sensor will not engage if the weight capacity is not met, which means that the air bag will not deploy in an accident. Contacted the dealer,, and was told to buy another vehicle or sit the passenger in the back seat.

Dt: the consumer was involved in an accident on april 1, 2005.during the accident the air bag did not deploy and the air bag light illuminated.the seat belts also failed to lock during impact.*sb

The contact owns a 2005 hyundai elantra.the contact stated that the sensor for the front passenger air bag was inoperative.as a result, the air bag may not deploy in the event of a crash.the vehicle was repaired according to nhtsa campaign id number 05v395000 (air bags) in 2005.several months after the repair, the failure resurfaced.the dealer stated that since the vehicle was previously repaired according to the recall, they would not assume any additional responsibility.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 10 and current mileage was 80,000.

I was in a car accident with my 2005 hyundai elantra.my front end of my vehicle was significantly damaged. Identical to the other vehicle.my air bag didn't deploy and my seatbelt didn't latch.i slid under the belt up to my ribs, smashing my knee, feet and fist into the dash.my airbag light lit up as if my airbag deployed.my repair man was appalled that the airbag didn't deploy.he said i had very significant damage and it should have deployed.i don't believe i would have been injured to the degree that i was in the accident.i am supposed to get my car back tomorrow (repaired!?)nothing was done to address the airbag situation except resetting the light on the dash.hyundai replaced the seatbelt, they told my repair man that the pre-tensor went off as it should...that is a lie.otherwise i wouldn't have slid under the seatbelt.i think this is a huge coverup.i know of another victim of the hyundai 5 star crash rating....i will have her contact you as well.

Passenger airbaglight is on when an average sized adult is in the passenger seat. Indicating the airbag will not deploy in an accident.

Airbags did not deploy, 2005 hyundai elantra gls, going east on hwy 11, raining and swerved to avoid oncoming vehicle, lost control of the vehicle.the car went airborne over the backside of the culvert and landed on the nose of the vehicle and flipped several times, 5 times is the est given to me.the front and side airbags did not deploy. Many injuries including head injury, cervical strain, muscle spasms, severe contusions to chest, hip, pelvis, arm, knee, neck.

Passenger side airbag light will be on indicating that the passenger side airbag is off.there will be an adult passenger in the passenger seat when this occurs. I have had it to the dealer twice and the passenger side airbag light still comes on when there is a full size adult in the passenger seat.

My 05 hyundai elantra was involved in a hit and run on the freeway spinning me out of control. I totaled the car and my airbag did not deploy. The person who cause the accident fled the scene. I hit another vehicle and caused front end damage to hers before slamming in the rail. Neither of us broke any bones. As hard as i hit and from all around the car at some point my airbag should have gone off.

Car involved in a low speed (20-25mph) collision.front left quarter panel engaged rear right of pickup bed. No hood damage occured, minor bumper damage but extensive damage to front left axle assemble when it was broke loose from mountings. Air bag deployed on drivers side.the drivers side seatbelt failed to anchor on hard brake or on impact causing the driver to be flung forward injuring the drivers left shoulder and causing the drivers hand to hit the windshield hard enough to break the windshield.it is unclear weather the air bag deployment caused the arm to hit the windshield. Seatbelt jamed in extended position raising concern by the body repair shop and replacement of the entire seatbelt unit.furture the body repair shop said that the "burn ring" was not burnt indicating the force retract never engaged upon air bag deployment and seatbelt was not ever retracted after the acciedent -- meaning the way it was extended is the way it was at the time the air bag deployed.body repair shop has been instructed to return the broked seatbelt assemble to me up on completion of the repairs to the car.

Air bag did not deploy in high speed crash.

1. Air bag light is on when an adult passengers is sitting in front seat (air bag is off)2. Almost every time it goes on and off when in traffic.3. Vehicle was brought to dealer about 5 times regarding this problem with negative results.

On wednesday, july 15, 2005 a young man was racing on u.s. Highway 75 in sherman.he rear-ended another southbound car and knocked across a grassy median, into my car head on.my airbag on the driver side deployed immediately, however, the passenger bag did not deploy right away resulting in serious injury to one of my passengers, toni folsom.on initial impact, toni flew forward and her head impacted the windshield, the seat belt then yanked her back and she flew forward again and only then did the airbag deploy.toni had a broken nose, concussion, 30 stitches in her face, and a perforated colon from the seat belt.the car was totaled.my concern is the fact the airbag deployed late.i know of another man whose sensor in his 2004 hyundai elantra is not working for his passenger bag and the dealership keeps telling him there is nothing wrong with it.please check into this matter.thank you, cherie odom .

Passenger airbag indicator light not functioning properly since purchase in november 2004.hyundai sent tech to reprogram airbag sensor in february 2005 and now works for my son who weights 135 lbs, but still does not function properly or consistently when my daughter who is 19 and weights 105 lbs sits on the passenger seat. Today april 15, 2005 when i complained again to hyundai, i was told the elantra conforms with us government standards.does the us government sanction or approve the use of airbag sensors that fail to protect the lives of passengers in the elantra 2005?or, technology that discriminates against people of certain weight?it is distracting and dangerous to drive around always looking at the passenger airbarg indicator light not knowing when it is going to be on or off, protencting my daughter or not.

The passenger side airbag off indicator light comes on sporadically in our new 2005 hyundai elantra when people are sitting in the seat.my wife weighs in excess on 190 pounds and the light came on at least 5 times during a trip of 124 miles in early march and has come on once or twice during trips of 26 miles to the grocery store.we tooke the car to the dealer and they did not do anything since they could not duplicate the problem.

Dt: the contact stated the passenger side air bag light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealership twice.the first time they told the contact that the occupant was not sitting in the seat properly. Shortly after the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they found nhtsarecall campaign 05v395000.they reprogrammed the sensor, and this did not correct the problem. Afterwards, the gird was replacedand the light still illuminated intermittently. The vehicle has not currently been corrected.

Passenger's air bag light came on intermittently stayed on. Passenger's weight requirement for the seat was specified in the manual, however, the light would not go off.consumer took the vehicle to the dealer.the dealer found a recall on the air bag software.per the recall the technician reprogrammed the air bag sensor and the light went off.consumer was concerned because he was not notified of a recall for this problem.

The passenger's side airbag sensor is faulty. The airbag off light consistently turns on even though there is an adult in the passenger's seat. I took it to the dealership and i was told they are aware of the problem ,and there is nothing they could do.

My car stalls.this first started happening while at a stop light, my car would stall but would start right up.now it is happening when i turn into parking lots or making a turn onto another street.my car stalls, i put it in park and it starts back up again.the most frightening time was a few weeks ago when i was driving down a busy street about 40-45 mph and my car just suddenly stalled.i was very scared that someone would rear-end me.the problem is it happens intermediately.the mechanics can't find the problem because they can't get it to replicate the problem.i don't know what to do except trade it in which i don't want to have to do.

I bought it from hyundai dealer on dec 16, 2009 which only had 31000 miles then. It stalled three times within one week just one week after i brought. One stalling happened when backing up and one time happened when coming to a stop and one time when leaving a stop. I brought it to dealeron december 31,2009. Their report indicated that they found a code for random miss fire and they replace spark plug wires. Things temporarily went well after that. Then the car totally died on one morning, around feb 10,2010. Then the car was towed to dealer service and dealer changed the battery. But the stalling problem came back this week and it had happened twice. One happened when turning around at parking lot and another was happened when turning around on local road. I am going to give dealer for another fix tomorrow.

The contact owns a 2005 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that there was an intermittent failure of which the instrument cluster failed to function as well as the speedometer. The vehicle was not diagnosed by an authorized dealer yet to determine the cause of the failures. An independent mechanic inspected and diagnosed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced as well as an internal electronic fault. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 74,510.

When i arrived home that night i thought i had left my lights on because my brake lights remained on. I checked my light switch and all my lights were off except for my brake lights. I looked up on the internet to see if there was any way to fix it and i found the recall on this particular item.

The car was parked and turned off for about 7 hours. The left taillight and bumper area as well as the front left wheel well burst into flames.there is fire damage to the windshield, windshield wiper, wheel well, front left tire, left taillight, bumper, trunk lid and spoiler.the strip that runs along the left side of the roof from the windshield to the rear window and the wire under it has damage by the rear window.

With the a/c on the headlights will dim briefly at different times just for a moment. A couple of times the have gone all the way out briefly. The lights will dim enough that people think i'm flashing my lights at them. This problem only occurs with the a/c on, the cause of the problem is when the a/c compressor cuts on it takes a lot of voltage to turn it on, and the headlights dim briefly. Depending on the weather this problem can happen every half mile. This problem has been on going. Took the car to the dealer, and the said every thing checks out ok, its just the nature of this brand of car.

Dt:the contact stated car caught on fire.the vehicle was parked for approximately three hours prior to the fire.the fire department stated this was not arson.the car is at the dealership and has not been inspected either by the dealership or insurance company.

Battery charge keeps draining in a 2005 hyundai elantra, have replaced the battery 3x, alternator works well but if the car sits without starting for longer than 24 hrs it will drain the battery, the battery has not been frozen and holds a charge when tested independently, vehicle is used only for paved driving, and we do not use salt on the roads here during the winter, all other electrical systems have tested fine but i cannot afford to bring the car in to a shop for a full diagnostic at this time, this issue began back in october 08 with no warning and has continued through the winter and now in spring.is there any possible explanation?i am not a mechanic and so would not even consider doing any work besides minor maintenance.

Vehicle accelerated on its own while in park and in neutral to 3000rpm. Slowed down while driving and went back to normal acceleration.

While slowing down after driving on highway or stopping at an traffic light, the car stalls and loses power steering. Needs to be put in neutral to restart but if stopping at another light, it dies again.

Engine accelerated while driving straight on a city 4 lane hwy & brake pedal wouldn't stop the car. Finally was stopping and i shut the car off. Had it towed home where it has been unusable since out of fear. I have read many reports of accidents on different hyundai models and different years because of the cars' accelerating on their own. Why haven't these cars been recalled? ???

While slowing down to stop at a traffic light engine accelerated to 3500 rpm's forcing me to jam on the brakes to avoid a collision with the car in front of me. This was the third time this has happened in the past 2 months.

I have a 5-speed gt hatchback that stalled while stopped at astop sign in july of 2005. The car would run erratically and try to stall while moving. It seemed to do it when the cooling fan came on. Took to dealer 8/1/05. They could not duplicate the problem. They did replace the throttle position sensor. I had 417 miles on it at that time. I had no problems until 3/30/06. The first warm day in pa and the car started stalling again, and leaking fuel in the left rear wheel well. With only 6900 miles. I have a service appointment 4/3/06. Let's hope i can get this fixed this time before something bad happens. It seems to only stall when warmed up and the outside temp is above 65 degrees.

On 10/24/09 i was driving my car for approximately an hour and a half when i noticed a slight jerking feeling.it repeated once or twice. Later when driving home, after driving for about a half an hour it started up again.then about an hour later it stalled at a red light, i hardly made it home.i took it to the mechanic and it wasn't displaying the problem.it started up the next day and the check engine light came on.it pulled a po 420 code.i change the o2 sensor, didn't fix it check engine light back on same code.i changed my mid cat converter didn't fix it, light back on same code...my mechanic thinks we should change upper cat converter, i call the dealer.they say the upper cat is connected to the manifold which means i'm still cover under the 100k warranty.mind you i had my manifold changed at 72k because the check engine light had gone on 18months earlier (i hadn't thought anything of it because it was under federal emissions warranty.)now i'm at 99k and need a new manifold???? so the dealer replaces the manifold, still not fixed.break down on side of the road.dealer says it's my problem, they fixed it!!! back to my mechanic po 420 again.he thinks the old upper cat blew out the new mid cat before we replaced it.it's under warranty so i wait a week for the part to come in... You guessed it still not fixed!i'm bringing it back to my mechanic tomorrow and calling the owner of the dealership.it's been 7 weeks, $900 and my car is still broken.

- the contact stated that while drivingthe 2005 hyundai elantrawith 12000 failure mileage at 70 mph she heard a loud rattling noise.the contact drove the vehicle to a garage, and was informed that the enginefell, and was resting on the frame of the vehicle.the vehicle had been repaired.the current mileage was 16000.

On 12/10/2009 i had taken my auto in for service at the local hyundai dealer. I told them we were having a problem with a funny smell coming out of the dash when the car is started and it continues (the odor) while the vehicle is running. The odor is not there while vehicle is not started or running? they performed the new york state safety and emissions inspection and the vehicle passed.they then went on to explain that the odor that is coming out of the vent is a normal condition from converter and fuel winter blend ? i have owned this vehicle since day one and have never had this problem before? this is my fifth winter. I also have 2 other vehicles and we buy our gas at the same station and i am not having this problem with either one. I was told there is a service bulletin on this issue? but when i asked for a copy i was told he couldn't find it ,and when i went online i couldn't either. I don't know if you can help with this issue or not but if there is anything you can do or point me in the right direction i would appreciate it because as far as the dealer is concerned this isnormaland i don't see what's normal about it .thank you for your time.

Good afternoon, i am writing concerning an incident caused by a car antenna on a hyundai elantra, wondering whether this has been a reoccurring incident.on december 30, 2010 i took the antenna of the vehicle to they eye socket as i was bending over to place a bag next to the trunk. I understand this may seem like just an accident; however, i believe the result is due mainly to the placement of the antenna, since this is not the first time i know of this event occurring on the exact same car. The main problem i see is the angle at which the antenna leaves the trunk. Though this may not affect everyone, i have noticed it is extremely dangerous to individuals over six feet tall.at almost 6'5', my injury occurred as i was bending down to place a bag next to the car. As i was bending forward, the antenna angle made it possible for the antenna to slide inferior from the bridge of my nose and into the orbit of my eye. Immediately due to the angle at which the antenna made contact with my face, and the force of leaning forward, my eye swelled shut. Needless to say, after an immediate trip to the emergency room, numerous visits to two opthamologists, a visit to an e,n,t doctor, and time, i am still left with double vision 10 and a half weeks after the initial accident. I understand accidents happen; however, i do believe this is one that could have been prevented. My family owns cars, my friends own cars, and in the summers i even work with cars, but i have never seen an antenna designed like this. I understand they have changed the design with the newer models, but the matter is there are older models still out on the rode which still provide risk. The intention of this letter is to not only inform the department of my incident, but to also gather information on whether similar incidents have been reported. As you can imagine, this incident greatly affected me and if there is a way i can stop it from happening to anyone else i would like to be able to. Thank you.

At inspection, mechanic noted severe and dangerous rust to subframe and subfloor in multiple areas of vehicle. Rear portion of subframe was almost completed rusted through. Additionally noted issues with rp brake light, plate light and fp turn signal. Ongoing issue with fusses and bulbs continually blowing/going out.

Has an issue with the low beam light turning on only high beams work. Around 7:00 pm driving home lights just completely shut off on me down the freeway. Changed out the bulbs and again went out after 2 weeks around 6 traffic hour witch almost caused a collision when other driver merged into my lane due to no lights to show a vehicle was to his right. I have also seen its a huge issue with other elantra owners the same years.

Headlight burnt out on 2005 hyundai elantra.took it to get fixed at a car repair store.car repair store said wiring was melted to headlight, he had never seen anything like this beforeand felt it was a fire hazard.we had to take it to the dealer to fix the headlight.service department at the dealer personally told me that there were burnt ends of wiring on the headlight as well as exposed wires.they told us that it is due to normal wear and tear and we had to pay $136.05 to have it fixed.they replaced the bulb and new ends at the headlight connector.i saved the old bulb and wiring because i feel that this may have been a factory or manufacturers defect that could be potentially dangerous and if left unfixed cause a fire. I do not feel that consumers should have to pay to fix car parts that were not installed or designed correctly in the first place.dealership said that it was 'weird' and they had no idea how it happened but refused to admit that it could have been a factory/manufacturer problem.i spoke with both the service dept. Manager and the dealership manager. The part was just recently replaced so we do not know if it will occur again.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle accelerated on its own and caused an accident.the contact was unsure how fast the vehicle was going or if the pedal stuck to the floor.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but could not fix the problem. The consumer stated there was no crash, she was bale to stop the vehicle in time.the vehicle also received poor gas mileage. Updated 09/25/06. Updated 9/27/2006 -

While slowing down after driving on highway or stopping at an traffic light, the car stalls and loses power steering. Needs to be put in neutral to restart but if stopping at another light, it dies again.

The contact owns a 2005 hyundai elantra. While parked, the contact attempted to open the door using the automatic power locks but the door would not open. The contact attempted to open the door manually but was unable to unlock the front or rear driver and passenger side doors. The contact had to exit the vehicle through the driver side window. The dealer was made aware of the failure and an appointment was secured to have the vehicle diagnosed for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

For the most part i am very statified withthe 2005 hyundai elantra, 4 door sedan. However, the locking mechanism inside the trunk lid can cause head injury.ihit my head numerous times on it, and i think the manufacturer needed toto take action redesign the inner locking mechanism so it was out of range of a person bending into the trunk and bending back out of the trunk area.i am a cauctous person, but it hurts when the lip of the inner locking mechanism of the trunk hitsthehead.i don't have exact dates of the particular incidents, but can generally say i have hit my head numerous times between 4/2006 to the present.

Very sporadic (6-8 times over six months) continued acceleration at 2500+ rpm when foot is removed from accelerator pedal. No codes ever set; no information provided by engine history. Test drive by a trusted mechanic and a service rep from local hyundai dealer (most recent test drive 10/30/2013) could not reproduce the defect. Test drive by me with the same service repsame day nearly resulted in severe crash. Turning right out of dealership onto md 198 and accelerating up to 3300 rpm toward changing traffic signal, vehicle failed to slow when foot removed from pedal. Brake applied with great effort and virtually no response. Steered into right turn in front of cross traffic from left and shifted to neutral to regain control of brakes on right shoulder. Engine raced in excess of 6000 rpm with no load for 1-2 seconds until i tapped the accelerator pedal twice. Engine returned to idle speed. This uncontrolled acceleration happened twice more before we got back to the dealership. This is an extremely hazardous condition and warrants a full investigation.the vehicle is currently at the ourisman hyundai dealership on fort meade road, laurel, md.

The contact owns a 2005 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced difficulty shifting from second to third gear. The vehicle hesitated momentarily before finally shifting gears. The contact stated that the failure progressed until the vehicle began to jerk into third gear. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they offered no assistance. The vehicle was then taken to an independent repair shop and the contact was informed that the failure was within the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000.

Vehicle accelerated on its own while in park and in neutral to 3000rpm. Slowed down while driving and went back to normal acceleration.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at 35 mph the transmission hesitated while shifting from first to second gear.when the gear engaged, the vehicle shuddered accompanied by a loud pinging noise.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

39892 miles on 2005 hyundai elantra and told clutch needs replaced foran estimated $895.told by dealer this is not covered under warranty as it is wear and tear.i have had a car with clutch for 30 years and never had a clutch go out in such a short time.

While entertaining my girlfriends sister and family, my 2005 hyundai elantra suddenly stopped running, and locked in second gear. It had been losing power regularly, and hyundai said there was nothing they could do about it, as they did not see anything wrong. The car would rev extremely hard while in second and third gear, but it would not move any faster. After it locked up, it was towed by aaa to a dealership, because hyundai improperly told my girlfriend that my roadside assistance was invalid ( it was not). The car had 26,000 miles on it at the time. After the dealership looked at it, the said that the clutch pad had burned up, which, had fused the gear box, and caused the car to lock up. They stated that the clutch pad was not covered under there warranty, as the damage was a result of "riding the clutch" i have been driving manual transmissions for 34 years, and have never ridden the clutch. After numerous complaints to hyundai, both to the dealership and to hyundai usa, i was told that i was responsible for the repair costs. To the tune of $3500.00!!! they had my car for over 2 weeks, and refused to give me a loner, saying since it was not a warranty issue , they were not required to give me one. This was after hyundai usa had told me specifically that the clutch pad was under warranty and that i would get a loner while it was repaired. I was unable to get to work for over a week, which cost me a significant financial problem, not to mention having to pay $3,500.00 out of my pocket. This is a defective transmission, as i know 4 other people who have had exactly the same issue with their cars, and in all cases all hyundai would do was say they were riding the clutch, and make them pay for repairs. An outside mechanic said he had talked to a hyundai mechanic, and was told hyundai knew about the problem, and had failed to notify owners of it, that they had refused to replace any transmissions and in fact they had changed their warranty enough to make it vague.

The driver's side seat belt of my 2005 hyundai elantra no longer retracts. This is a $600 fix at a hyundai dealership. This should be covered by the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty.

Dt: the consumer was involved in an accident on april 1, 2005.during the accident the air bag did not deploy and the air bag light illuminated.the seat belts also failed to lock during impact.*sb

Passenger seat ppd is defective and causing my air bag light to be on.dealership says i am not under recall but there are hundreds of similar complaints online about hyundai and airbag related issues.

The contact owns a 2005 hyundai elantra. Upon starting the vehicle, the air bag indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ocs mat failed and the front passenger seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired by the contact's husband; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to autonation hyundai mall of georgia (3445 buford dr ne, buford, ga 30519) where it was diagnosed that the failure recurred and the seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

I have replaced both front and rear brakes on a 2005 elantra gt hatchback at hyundai dealerships. I had a problem with the brake pedal feeling mushy and almost hitting the floor when i tried to stop. The dealership examined the problem and wanted to replace the master brake cylinder, rear brakes, rotors and calipers to the tune of $1150.00. I went to a small mechanic shop and i've now had the master brake cylinder replaced, new rear brakes put on a 2nd time [after 30 000 km] and yet it's been back twice for 'bleeding' numerous times in case air had gotten in to the system. Yet today [3 days after the last attempt to correct the brake pedal from nearly hitting the floor when i brake] it feels the same. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Has anyone heard of this problem with elantras before?

I purchased my 2005 hyndai elantra gt, new in october 2005.at 12,000miles the brake pedal went to the floor while braking.the brake master cylinder was replaced.two weeks following this repair again the brake pedal went to the floor.the abs module was replaced.in december 2009, at 68,000 miles again the brake pedal went to the floor while braking.the brake master cylinder was again replaced (at owner's expense since the car was then out of warranty).now in march 2011 once again the brake pedal went to the floor while braking.the car is currently in the shop and is getting the fourth brake master cylinder and the third abs module on a car that only has 89,000 miles.each time the brake system failed it was sudden and without any warning any of these incidents could have caused a major accident.my concern is that hyndai has a malfunctioning brake system in their 2005 hyndai elantra gt that is a major safety concern.

- the contact owns a 2005 hyundai elantra .on april 24, 2009 whiledriving at approximately 30 mph, the preceding vehicle braked unexpectedly.when the consumer applied her brake they failed to work and she crashed into the back of the vehicle.she experienced minor injuries, but her children who were passengers were unharmed.she has not had previous issues with the vehicle.she did however mention hearing a squeaking noise about twice prior to the crash, but was not sure if it was related to the brake failure.the current mileage was 47000. Updated 05/18/09. *ljupdated 05/19/09.*b

I have a similar problem to one i have seen several posts on here.i have a 2005 hyundai elantra gls with abs brakes and have had a chronic problem with the brakes since april 2009 at 78,867 miles.the brake pedal becomes softer and softer and eventually goes to the floor with little or no braking capability.i have had the system bled several times, three master cylinders and all four calipers changed by my local mechanic,.the brakes are ok for a while but the problem returns.i took it to hyundai last week 6/20/11 at 83,400 miles and they said there were no problems with the hydraulic system, no leaks, but alot of air in the system.they recommended new rotors and pads on all four wheels (said the old rotors were rotted and ridged, and the pads were grooved) flush out of the brake fluid and cleaning of the caliper brackets and slider pins which were impeding pad movement.they suggested that these conditions were causing the system to draw air.i had the repairs done but the pedal still feels a bit "soft" but the car is responding to braking. I am not confident that the problem is resolved but time will tell for sure.

I took my car into the dealership sept 2008 for 30,000 mile service.i was told my rear brakes were worn and had to be replaced.i have had to have my rear brakes changed for the 4th time in 3 years and 35,000 miles.there has to be something wrong with the way the braking system is working but the dealership says they can't find a problem and it must just be from driving.i have had other cars and have driven the same route with those cars and have never had to replace my brake pads every 10,000 miles.i am concerned about the safety of my car.i have a 2005 hyundai elantra gts.

Dt*:the contact stated the resistance of the brakes has decrease considerably since the vehicle was purchased.the brake pedal must be depressed with extreme force to stop the vehicle.when the vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop, it was determined that the left rear caliper was defective; causing excessive brake pad wear on the left side.as a result of the excessive brake pad wear, the left rear rotor has developed deep grooves.the manufacturer has not been alerted.

I purchased my hyundai elantra 4 door sedan, vin [xxx], on august 31, 2005.when i took the vehicle in to the dealership for the first oil change at 3500 miles there was a brake fluid leak detected in the rear wheel cylinders.they were both replaced at that time under warranty.on february 4, 2006,i took my vehicle in for the 15000 mile check and once again there was a brake fluid leak discovered and both rear wheel cylinders were once again both replaced under warranty.if these items are defective, hyundai should issue a recall rather than simply putting out a technical service bulletin.there are apparently two (2) such bulletins in existence: 1. 04-50-010 nov 04brakes - rear drum brake wheel cylinder leak inspection, and 2. Tnt1510205-001 feb 05brakes - drum brake wheel cylinder leakage inspection (source http://www.alldata.com/recalls/)i was not advised of any recalls or continuing recalls when i purchased my vehicle in august 2005.i will certainly give hyundai a chance to respond to my concerns, however they do not appear to be interested in sharing this information with perspective buyers.the knowledge of these defects were already known by hyundai well before i purchased my vehicle.i would also like to know the number of elantras that may be affected and if hyundai plans on escalating this issue to a recall? updated 07/17/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I am having some what the same issue my husband had with his 2002 elantra which was reported to your organization, and had resulted in an accident.in my 2005 elantra the manufacturer evidently knew what the issue was in the 2002 and has now moved the brake pedal .75 of an inch to the left. This unfortunately only satisfied half of the problem.the brake pedal, when braking, still goes one inch below the accelerator thereby resulting in simultaneous braking and acceleration.if my husband had not discovered the problem, and installed corrective measures, i would have probably crashed.however, he had measured and corrected everything before i would take my first trip!i feel sorry for john doe as probably 99% of drivers would not realize what was the actual cause of their accident!i also cannot believe the government would not take action against hyundai to correct this issue in all of the elantra's so affected. You have to realize in most cases this is a blind issue as the driver will not be aware what the actual cause was.recently a john doe filed a complaint listed on mycarstats.com whereby he continuously had the same issue and the dealer could not find the cause!

My 2005 hyundai elantra hydroplanes even at low speeds and skids very easily on slightly wet pavement. My daughter has complained about this to me many times. The vehicle smelled of a burning smell. The vehicle had to be towed to the shop.

While driving very slowly in a parking lot, just after stopping at a stop sign and while gently pushing the gas pedal to make a right hand turn, my hyundai elantra suddenly accelerated at an undesirably high rate of speed.although i removed my foot from the gas pedal and firmly pressed the brake, the car continued to lurch forward while the rpm revved loudly.i immediately put the automatic transmission into park, and the car stopped moving and a few seconds later the engine idle returned to normal.fortunately, no cars or pedestrians were in front of me, although many shoppers standing nearby stopped to watch as they heard the excessive roar of the engine.i drove the car to the hyundai dealer, and he found no record of the incident on the car's computer software.this incident of sudden uncontrollable acceleration happened this one time and has not happened since.i am reporting this to make you aware that this sudden acceleration problem is not limited to toyota.

Traveling on the freeway the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 80mph and would not slow down it continued for about 15 miles before i put the veh in neutral and turned off the key,(the service dept at the dealer advised me to do that).at that time smoke poured out of the engine and i thought the veh was on fire. I called 911 . I was able to avoid a collision however the policeman asked me to move the car and when i turned on the key it started at full throttle i was afraid so i got out and refused to move the car. When a police officer moved the car it again started at full throttle. They towed it to the dealer, they said there is nothing wrong with it. I am afraid to drive it and i want a different veh or a refund.
