Air bag light is on. This car should be under the 15 year extended warranty for this problem. The hyundai dealer will not look at the car without a fee.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. While driving and failing to stop at a stop sign, the contact t-boned another vehicle and crashed into it. The air bags did not deploy. There were two people injured. A police report was filed. The contact called the manufacturer who sent someone out to inspect the vehicle but offered no assistance. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Excerpts from my letter to hyundaipassenger airbag off light continues to illuminate in spite of the fact that there is an adult passenger in the front seat.a few weeks ago, i received your brochure in the mail regarding important information about the advanced airbags in my elantra, and realized that this clearly describes the situation with my vehicle.the service manager said he knew nothing about the brochure and letter i received, hetold me they could not find a problem with the passenger airbag and showed me that they had already addressed a previous recall with the airbag about a year ago. The service manager then spoke again to the mechanic who was working on my vehicle and the mechanic told him that he was able to recreate the problem as i had described it.according to the invoice i received for the services performed on friday, august 25, 2006, the dealership did a reflashing. Today, i had an adult passenger in the car and the passenger airbag off light remained illuminated each time the passenger was in the front seat.i have several points of concern:1.the dealership knew nothing about this situation when i first walked in and had to read the information i provided from hyundai2.even after reading the information, the dealership did not understand that there was something that needed to be resolved.3.even though the service mechanic stated that he was able torecreatethe problem (i.e. A passenger in the front seat and the passenger airbag off light remained illuminated) a situation thatwould warrant ocs reprogramming, the situation remains unchanged!4.what happens in the scenario of an unfortunate accident in which the passenger airbag needs to be deployed and the passenger airbag off light is illuminatedin spite of my effort to follow your direction to have it fixed?the answer to #4 from my perspective is clear.

When an adult sits in the front passenger seat advanced air bag would shut off.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra.while driving 70 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle due to high winds.she merged into the left lane of traffic and the vehicle was struck three times on both sides.the driver's side frontal air bag failed to deploy.the contact sustained injuries to her neck, back, and shoulder.the florida highway patrol filed report number 07848144.the insurance company stated that the vehicle was destroyed.the manufacturer took a report and stated that an investigator would go to the location where the vehicle was towed.however, the manufacturer is currently requesting that she send the proof of purchase, insurance coverage, and pictures.the current and failure mileages were 63,000.

From stop sign proceeded to cross intersection, was struck on front end of drivers side paneland bumper, spun around and hit again on driver back side panel and rear wheel, ripped half of the front bumper and crushed drivers front side againstengine , no air bag deployed.

2004 elantra passenger side air bag remained on. The consumer was not satisfied with the recall work that was performed on the vehicle regarding the airbag. The consumer stated when the passenger seat was occupied thepassenger air bag off light stayed illuminated.

Hit a telephone pole going about 40mph n the airbag went off about 5 seconds after. My neck pain has gone to my back and head n my body is becoming deformed and shutting down. I'm trying to get help but i guess i waited too long. I was injured n never treated hoping it would go away but it did not. The airbag would have definitely helped me out! also this was in pennsylvania not ohio.

When the passenger seat was occupied, the air bag light intermittently illuminated and stayed on.please provide any further information.

Driving south on hwy.suv hit car from behind suv traveling at est. Speed of 90-100 mph.pushed car 300 ft.spinning around and around hit medium my car equipped with four air bags none of them deployed i would like to know why?

I own a 2004 hyundai elantra gls (us version). I got the airbag light on from the 60k miles. Now the "passenger airbag off" light doesn't lit regardless in the passenger seat is someone seated or not.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. When the contact started the ignition, the air bag warning indicator began to illuminate continuously until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer yet the vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The vin was unavailable.

It is 2004 hyundai elantra gt. The car is never been any accident but theair bag light is on . The same year car has recall for airbag light but not for this model . I think hyundai should recall this model (2004 hyundai elantra gt) and fix the airbag before any major accident happen to any owner.

Repeated intermittent illumination of "passenger airbag off" beginning within days of purchase. Failures occur when anyone sits in passenger seat.adults weighing 190, 170, and 140 have turned airbags off.poodle weighing 9 lbs turned airbags on! numerous attempts at service august 04 to present, with long delays waiting for hyundai representatives to address and delays and cancelled appointments by dealer service department.results of service appointments included could not duplicate, told that sensor activated when passenger moves in seat, claimed to order new "upgraded"sensor, did not have "special" tool to install new sensor, nothing more that service dept could do, airbags will deploy in accident if sensor indicates airbags off, then told that district manager would have to install new sensor, svc cancelled because district manager advised service manager that new sensor would not work, told that district service representative would arrive to assess and verify issue then let me know what would be done and would have to sign waiver, district svc rep tested (compared my 04 elantra manufactured sept 03 and another manufactured may 04) and concluded cause was the way i sit in the seat.light came on in both vehicles when isat in passenger seat, and when he sat in my passenger front seat.concluded that i was not sitting far enough back in the seat for sensor to recognize.stated that this was not a defect but a "characteristic" of the 04 elantra. Would return two weeks later to "reprogram" sensor to more sensitive state.this was more than one month ago.have had three near collisions since purchase, with constant fear of passenger seat for seven and one half months of ownership.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra.while the vehicle was driving in reverse, the air bags deployed for no reason.the contact's husband injured his hand.the dealer stated the vehicle was in a crash, which is why the air bags deployed even though the occupants of the vehicle claim that there was no crash.the speed was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 46,000. Updated 03-04-08 the consumer was informed the bumper was damaged.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. While driving, the air bag off indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 03v322000 (air bags). The failure mileage was unknown.

The front airbag off light stays on even when the front passenger, usually my niece who weighs 130 pounds, occupies the seat. There was a recall on the airbags, but it did not specify this problem. So many complaints about this sensor should be looked in to.

The air bags light does not come on meaning the module is not functioning. I had the car inspected and it failed due to this issue. Records show a recall was registered in 05. Well here it is 10 years later and the problem was not resolved and something overlooked. It's a safety hazard regarding my life and others as well not knowing if these air bags deploy or not while i'm on the road. I need this resolved quickly. They never fixed the problem the first time so why's it happening again?

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. She stated that the airbag warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. There was an open recall on her vehicle, (see nhtsa campaign id number: 03v322000), however the dealer attempted several times to re-program the sensor but to no avail. He then stated that he would have to remove the front driver's and passenger's side seats in order to accurately repair the airbag sensor, however the costs in doing so would not be covered by the manufacturer. The contact stated that if there was a defect in the vehicle, she should not be liable for the repairs. The recall is still open on the vehicle. The vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were under 90,000.

Regarding: 2004 hyundai elantra gtthis complaint is in regards to the passenger airbag. The 2004 elantra contains a sensor in the seat that disables that passenger seat if the weight of the passenger is less than a certain weight. A "passenger air bag off" light illuminates to indicate when this is occurring. Since the date of purchase (4/29/2004), it has been found that this light illuminates with adult passenger's in this seat. This happens with a wide variety of individuals, some well over 150 lb. This problem has been in the news in the following locations that i have found:1) june 24, 2004 edition of autotech daily (hampton autobeat llc) in an article entitled "elantra smart airbag too smart?"2) abc story: http://abcnews.go.com/business/story?id=89770&page=13) consumeraffairs.com: ttp://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/hyundai_airbag.htmlas this is an issue that i found very troubling and unsafe, i would appreciate immediate assistance in resolving this problem. The vehicle has been taken to two (2) different hyundai dealers for service, but according to them, the system is working as designed.

"takatarecall " well i never really thought about vehicle recalls until the death of a young girl and a few others. My car has problems with it when i'm driving to work at 4am in the morning about 5 miles there and back and one of the problems is my air bag light is on has been on for about 2 weeks, my suspension is dangerous and my seat belt is not safe because it some what works. I really want to be safe and i want my family safe.

I have a 2004 hyundai elantra.it had a recall on the airbag sensor.i have taken it back two times to be fixed.this will be the third.it comes on and off regardless if anyone is in the seat or not.each time i take it back they say it is fixed. I am afraid if i am in a wreck it will not work if someone is sitting there.

Dt*:the contact stated the passenger side air bag sensors were reprogrammed on two occasions.the sensors are still not working properly.if a small stature person is sitting in the front passenger seat, the indicator light illuminates, indicating the air bag is turned off.there is a recall # 03v322000, concerning the air bags, however the recall did not correct the problem.the vehicle is having the same problems again.the dealer was notified and reprogrammed the osc electrical control unit.the dealer stated the person sitting in the front passenger seat must sit in a certain manor for the sensor to be activated.

Car slid on snow hit tree at approximately 10 mph.neither front air bag deployed!!!! passenger hit and shattered windshield.driver hit steering wheel.car total loss!!!!.....updated 02-03-15

Passenger's advanced air bag system failed to work andshut off when an adult sat in the seat. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

I was driving with my cruise control on and a car stopped in front of me.i hit the brakes and my car accelerated.this is the third time this has happened.fortunately, i was able to slam on the brakes and the car stopped.also the air bag light does not go off with an adult in the front seat.this is very concerning.

2004 elantra ocs system modification.***no answer required***. *mrthe air bag light illuminated on and off intermittently when the front passenger seat was occupied by an adult who met the weight requirements.

I was taking my dad to church on sunday he sat on seat. I notice passenger airbag off indicator did not go off . The car was driven in city and on highway thank god air bags were not needed air bag light came on dash later that day . I called broadway hyundai on monday they said if air bag light on dash was on airbags would not deploy. I took car in to broadway they told me airbag sensor on passenger seat was severed and part would be 1600.00 to repair. Later they called back and said they could but used seat in for 297.32.i didn't like that because same thing could happen again, but could nor afford 1600.00 for ome part. I call hyundai and ask that i should be compensated for danger my dad and myself were put in and reinvested repair. This is poor workmanship having sharp metal rails and clips over plastic wire membrane. Not happy with used seat same thing could happenagain and this part could be in 1000 of other vehicle. A case was started and no reply for hyundai. A fair settlement of 1600.00 for correct part if need in future and danger we were put in. I feel this should be checked out there could 1000 of this danger on road today and some people may not take airbag light seriously.see attach photo take by repair technicianjeff

The air bag off light illuminated when there was a passenger in the seat. The seat sensors was replaced, however it did not resolve the problem. The consumer gave the first elantra back to the dealer and was given a replacement same model and year, but the problem existed in that cart as well.

I have contacted customer care and was told it's standard to remove a front seat and give the car back until they get parts for the recall i feel this could cause air bag systems not to be active and also without the seat the cars ability to hold up in a crash is reduced due to missing components that provide some structural support all i have requested was a rental car for the time it takes to perform my recall as i do not feel safe driving a car without a front seat i have had the dealer decline my request and said if i want it done the seat will be removed and the car given back to me is this a safe practice for a dealer to remove a seat that has one of the side air bags in it and advise the owner to drive the car as normal? any assistance with this company will be much appreciated and to be clear there is a active air bag light on with a code the relates to occupancy detection for passanger front and sideair bags

Dt*: the contact stated the passenger air bag (ocs system) is suppose to activate when an adult is sitting in the seat and not activate when a child is sitting in the seat.the ocs system will not activate for the owner of the vehicle when sitting in the seat properly.the dealership determined the driver is less than 120 pounds which is the reason the ocs will not activate.the contact contends this information is not listed in the handbook and the contact was not informed of this when the vehicle was purchased.

When an adult passenger was in the front seat an indicator illuminated whichstated that passenger's side air bag was off.consumer contacted the dealer, who indicated that this vehicle was not part ofnhtsa recall 03v322000 concerning air bag failure.consumers wife who is about 130lbs experiences this issue when in the pass. Seat.driving around corners or up hills turns the bag on and off.the dealer can not fix the issue.cw

The faulty airbags failed to keep this driver safe, and severely injured him. He suffered 2 broken back bones, a broken rib, scrapes and bruises. On top of the physical trauma, he and his family, wife and two daughters, are suffering from emotional trauma. The accident in itself, should not have caused this physical trauma, the car did not flip, turn over, or impact any other vehicles. The driver was not on a highway, but a common street, so he was not traveling over 40 mph. The injuries sustained are a direct result of the faulty airbag deployment.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra.while making a left turn out of a parking space at 5 mph, another vehicle crashed into the driver's side of the contact's vehicle.the air bags failed to deploy.a police report was filed.the driver was taken to the hospital and sustained minor injuries to the head and eyes.the vehicle was destroyed.the manufacturer stated that the air bag sensor performed in the manner it was designed; therefore, they were not liable for repairs.the dealer was not notified.the current and failure mileages were 44,000.updated 12/30/08.*ljhyundai stated the air bag performed as designed. They stated it appeared that the angular collision was hit solely by the drivers door, without and deformation of the side structure of the vehicle. Consequently, the resulting energy absorption meant that the deceleration experienced by the side air bag sensor did not merit deployment of the side air bags.updated 01/05/09.

Dt: the consumer stated she was having problems with her air bag light. She says that if someone is sitting in the passenger seat, the air bag light switch will say passenger air bag off,and if no one issitting in the seat it says the same thing. This problem occurs 80 percent of the time the car is in use and has been going on since the purchase of the vehicle. The consumer has reported this to hyundai and they statedit was the way the person was sitting in the seat. The dealer has received numerous complaints and the manufacturer tells them not to fix it.*sb

Warning light comes on and off on passenger side while in motion

When driving at an undetermined speed air bag warning lightappeared on the dashboard. Consumerinformed the dealer about this issue.however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem.

Dt*:the contact stated that in the owner's manual it indicated that a weight of greater than 56.4 pounds in the front passenger seat will turn off the air bag indicator light, and allow the frontal and side air bags to deploy in the event of a crash.there have been occupants in the passenger seat who weigh greater than the limit, but the indicator will not turn off, therefore the air bags probably would not engage during an accident.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer who was unable to locate the defect, however the passenger seat was replaced.the replacement did not correct the problem.there is a nhtsa recall # 03v322000 which relates to the air bags howeverthe vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.updated 8/1/2006 -

At the time of purchase, consumer noticed the passenger air bag off light was not functioning properly. *lathe occupant classification sensor incorrectly interpreted the absence of a seated adult when an adult in fact occupied the seat. This caused the passenger airbag off indicator to illuminate and in the even of a crash the airbag would not deploy .the consumer stated several vehicles were recall for the problem in the past. (recall #03v322000). The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer on several occasions. The first time the dealer was unable to address the problem and they stated the had to consult with the manufacturer.the second time the passenger airbag sensor was replaced and was reported to be working properly with 60lb weight in the seat. The third time the dealer received an extra sensitive sensor from the manufacturer. The fourth time the consumer contacted the dealer and stated there had been no change. The dealer informed the consumer the part was replaced with the newest that there was and there would be no further assistance.

During a crash totaling my 2004 hyundai elantra none of the airbags deployed.

Was involved in a head on collision at 30 mph.the airbags never deployed.is there a speed at which the airbags are supposed to deploy?

My 2004 elantra gls has the following problems:1 - the passenger airbag off sign stays on, even with my wife in the passenger seat.2 - the airbag light on my dashboard is always on, and my horn is not working, for the last two / three weeks (nov / dec 2017).

The air bag light appeared on the dashboard and remained on while driving.please fill in additional information.

The passenger airbag is supposed to be activated when a passenger >56.4 pounds is seated in the passenger seat. When my daughter (about 110 pounds) is seated in the passenger seat, the indicator light for the passenger airbag goes on and off when the car is moving, and she is not moving. I took the car into the dealer and i have contacted their district office and i was told there was nothing that could be done. I am worried that i will have an accident and the airbag will not be activated.

Consumer stated that whileexiting the freeway onto an off ramp hit something in the street which caused him to lose control ofvehicle.in an attempt to pull over he hit another vehicle.upon impact, air bagsdid notdeploy.driver sustainedchest injuries.

The vehicle was impacted on the driver's door and "b" pillar sufficiently to shatter the window, pop open the door and bend the b pillar.the door and b pillar impacted the driver but none of the air bags deployed......updated 05-27-15

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. She stated that while driving at 2mph the vehicles airbags deployed, the light illuminated after the air bags deployed.there were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they diagnosed it andstated that they could not find the problem.there had been no repairs to the vehicle at the time of the complaint. She is very concern about her safety in the vehicle. The failure mileage was 55271 and current mileage was 65427.

I went to get a safety check and they told me that i couldn't get it because my air bag light was on. I live on a isolated island that doesn't have a hyundai dealership and the car dealership where i bought the car isn't giving me a call back while in the mean time i am riding around with a expired safety check and is fearful of getting cited.

The driver was involved in a frontal collision, upon impact the passenger seat collapsed.only the driver's air bag deployed and no one was injured. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.*sc

My 19 years old daughter's weight is not less than 56.4 pound.it showed displayed "passenger airbag off" while the seat was occupied.i think the alignment of ocs is off.it needed to be adjusted according to the specifics set for 56.4 or less.i think the car setting is higher than 56.4 pounds.i took my car to my dealer during the 7500 mile service and i mentioned about this problem to service manager.i got a response from them on the invoice.invoice says "tested system out working to factory specs"i was so upset that they don't be bother to check into the details.the hyundia representative, ms. Muara t. Dowd (district parts and service manager in jamesburg, nj) gave me an opportunity to have a mechanic to show me what he have done.what i have observed him.he just plug his computer under the driver.and showed me the computer found no problem related to the airbag.that's all he do the job and leave. Not even bother to check into this matter.ms. Dowd told me that she have something to fax me later on. I found out that they offered me to sign the waive some specifics related to liability related to reprogramming it.i felt it is not acceptable to do that.i got a fax from you regarding ocs reprogramming authorization.i think that it is not right for getting me to authorize for reprogramming.i think it needs to make a correct adjustment according to your company's specifics to 56 pounds or less. I think it is not right and i would like it to make the correction on this part. I researched this problem.what i found....reference to the 2004 elantra owner's manual section "occupant classification system" (section 1 - page 36-37).if the front passenger seat is unoccupied or occupied by someone lighter than 56.4 pounds (25.g kg) the indicator "passenger airbag off" will be displayed, and the front passenger's airbag will be turned off and will not deploy in frontal crashes.

The elantra was stopped at a red light. The light turned green and when in the intersection was t-boned by a tractor tailor who ran the red light at est 25 mph. The impact spun the car 180+ degrees, lightly clipping a telephone pole and hit back into the truck where the car stopped. The side impact airbags nor frontal airbags did not deploy. The seat belt did lock and the injuries were whip lash, concussion, and cuts and contusions.

I noticed that the passenger air bag light was on back in may 2004. Now the light on the driver air bag is on and the passenger light for the air bag is off.i am concernrd thst neither air bags are not working. What should i do?there has been no incident so i will just put approx. Date of the air bag lights.

My 2004 hyundai elantra passenger airbag is not enabled even when a passenger with twice the advertised minimum required weight occupies the seat. A hyundaibulletin tells passengesr to sit stiff like a mannequin to activate sensors to enable the bag, but that's not practical. Hyundai also offers to reprogram the sensors to require less weight, in conjunction with deactivating (permanantly shutting off) the "passenger air bag off" light. But there's no reason to believe that lowering the programmed weight will enable the bags since it already doesn't come on with 130 pounds but is supposed to come on at 56 pounds. Disabling the "passenger air bag off" light is only an effort to make occupants unaware as to if the bags are enabled or not and thereby lessen the burden for hyundai.owners should not expect a solution any time soon since the technology does not exist that keeps the airbags on when an adult passenger may squirm around, cross their legs, or even sit normally at times. A positive solution would be to recall the vehicles to install a keyed switch that can be toggled by the owner, and eliminate the sensors all together. At this point, any currently offered solution by hyundai, which includes not sitting in the seat, or using another car, or sitting perfectly still, or having the "passenger air bag off" light disabled, is only designed to benefit the company and not the consumer, norto make the bags work as [email protected].

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. While the vehicle was parked the air bag deactivation light illuminated on the instrument panel whenever someone was in the front passenger seat. The dealer was contacted and stated that a diagnostic test needed to be performed. The dealer also stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa recall campaign id number: 05v395000 (air bags) and previously had recall repairs performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. While driving at approximately 40 mph during inclement weather, the vehicle skidded and crashed into a concrete barrier. The air bag warning light illuminated, but the air bags did not deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The contact did not disclose if a police report was filed or not. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 131,000. The vin was unavailable.

Srs (airbag) service reminder indicator came on.i went to an auto parts store and they ran an obdii report on a bosch scanner.a b1448 oc (occupant classification) - passenger sensor mat defect came back.this is the same problem that the 2006-2008 hyundai sonatas have a recall on.the front passenger seat sensor, to detect a child seat or adult in the seat, may recognize a small adult as a child seat. If this happens and the front passenger air bag is deactivated, the risk of injury in a crash may be increased. I went to hyundai motor america headquarters in fountain valley, california at 3:45 on january 17, 2019 and left my contact information on a card at the front desk regarding this problem.i was told that i would be contacted but to date have had no reply from hma.nhtsa campaign id number 08v161000as this presents the same danger to elantra occupants as the sonata recall, hyundai should be required to offer the same repair extension (15 years) as the sonata has.

Consumer received nhtsa recall03v322000. When front passenger seat is unoccupied or is occupied by someone lighter than 56.4 pounds, the passenger's air bagdeactivates, and will not deploy if a crash occurs.this recall applied for those vehicles manufactured between 6/12/2003 and 18/11/2003.however, consumer'svehicle was manufactured on 6/18/2003 and dealer won't honor the recall.

Bhught car used 6 weeks ago. Ever since while my wife {120lbs] occup[ies right front passenger seat , the air bag disabled light stays illuninated. To extinguise she has to wiggle around on seat , slide forward and someitmes lift her weight off of the seat and drop on to seat several times/ took car back to dealer, crest hyundai ,and they tested seat weight requirements with a propane bottle. This is hardly the correct procedure. They said there was no problem. Problem persists every time she or any one light rides in that seat. Have viewed this site and found numerous other complaints relating to this problem.

The passenger airbag indicator light does not work for persons under 145 lbs and the company reps have insisted that it is designed that way for safety and that they are happy to take out the seat and send it away to be worked on but there is a 999 chance out of a thousand that it will behave just the same way on re-installation because "the car decides that it's safer for the airbag not to deploy" at my weight -- which is over 140 lbs. I pointed out the faulty logic and they agreed to go through the motions (which they believe will be ineffective in fixing the problem).

Failure of passenger airbag system to arm itself when passenger in front seat is present.warning on dash panel says "passenger airbag turned off".there was no incident, just failure to arm.dealer can not correct problem, suggests contact with manufacturer which i did. Am awaiting reply.

The right side passenger air bag light is on and will not go off.the dealer serviced the vehicleand stated that if a person's weight was over 50 lbs. The light will come on and stay on as long as the seat is occupied.

While driving the advance passenger air bag light illuminated, letting the consumer know that the air bags were turned off. Thiscaused a problem because the air bags were off when they may have been needed to be on. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Whiledriving35-45 mph and turningto the left consumer'svehicle was involved inaside impact crash. Seat belt didn't hold the driver, andair bags did not deploy.a police report was issued.

While driving the air bag warning light continuously illuminated on the dashboard. Dealershipinspected vehicle several times, technician indicated to consumer the passenger had to weigh 66.4 pounds in orderfor the air bag light to turn off, althoughwith people who weighed over 100 pounds theair bag lightwas still on.

Dt: consumer's vehicle wasinvolved in al head-on collision at 35 mph when another vehicle made an illegal left turn. Upon impact, neither front or side air bags deployed. Consumer's vehicle was totaled.both driver and passenger sustained injuries.

After rear ending a vehicle, the front air bags did not deploy. The consumer suffered wall chest contusion and shoulder strain. Vehicle is still with the dealer.*la

The driver side air bag deployed.the manufacture is sending forms for the consumer to submit.the consumer was vehicle was backing out of the driveway when the driver's side air bag deployed.there were no prior accidents. *sc

2004 hyundai elantra. I purchased the car in may of 2004. Since then on two occasions with adults sitting in the front passenger seat the air bag off light has come on. The hyundai dealer says they can't recreate it and there is nothing they can do about it.

My daughter was on the freeway in her 2004 hyundai elantra. Her car pulled to the left as she overcorrected, the cart went across the freeway, spun out, up the embankment, landed on the (driver's) side and slid about 50-100 feet before it landed back upright. None of the air bags deployed. The side air bags should of deployed from the impact of the car landing on the side. Her car has been declared a "total loss". After searching the internet, i found that there were recalls for the 2004 elantra "defective air bags". We were never notified of this recall. My daughter sustained head, neck, and dual shoulder injuries. Thank god she is alive but what about those that have not survived?

While drivingpassengerair bag warning light continuously illuminated on the dashboard. As a resultair bags became inoperative, and wouldn't deploy when needed. Dealership inspected the vehicle three times and could not duplicate or correct the problem.finally, technician urgedthe consumer not to worry about that light, but problem still existed.

I have a 2004 hyundai elantra with 1500 miles. The front passenger air bag sensor under the passenger seat cushion is not function correctly. The elantra has a dashboard light between the driver and passenger that lites up when nobody is sitting in the passenger seat and turns off when a passenger 50 pounds or more is sitting in the seat. While someone is sitting in the passenger seat (i.e., my wife-110 pounds) the light goes on and off at random times during a trip.it has already been replaced and still does not work. Freehold of hyundai of freehold, nj said to contact their headquarters, there is nothing else they can do.

While driving air bag sensor worked intermittently with someone sittingin the seat. Consume contacted the dealer several times.dealer stated that it was the coverthat was on the seat.and then said it was the way the consumer was sitting. However the problem recurred.

I bought a new hyundai elentra in june 20th,2004. Every since i got it, the passenger air bag sensor control system has not worked. I am a fully grown adult female who weighs 128lbs. When i am sitting in the passenger seat, the air bag system is turned off meaning that it will not deploy in a crash. I have taken the car into the dealer several times for this issue with no results. Hyundai keeps telling me that the sensor system is working properly and that there is nothing wrong with the car. The dealer however, admits that they realize that this is a problem but that they can not address the issue unless hyundai america gives them permission. This issue really concerns me because it is a real safety problem that could lead to deaths. Please note that everytime someone sits in the passenger seat of the vehicle, the sensor has failed.

My husband bought a 2004 hyundai elantra end of february and since then we have been having problems with the passenger side air bag sensor. When i am sitting in the seat (i weigh approx 120 lbs) the light indicating the passenger airbag is off is illuminated 99% of the time. When we noticed it i tried to be aware of the way i was sitting and also had others sit there instead of me. When reading the owners manual about the sensor weight being 56 lbs and noticing the problem persisiting no matter how still or correct i sat we called the dealer. The first time they physically looked at it to "diagnose" they said everything was ok (6/04) and i wasn't sitting right; of course it still occured. So we had to go down and demonstrate that i sat in the seat exactly like you are supposed to and the light never went off. This prompted them to order a new sensor. It took approx 40 days for the part to arrive and we just received the vehicle back yesterday and it is still malfunctioning.

The passenger side air bag disabled light goes on and off while driving with adults of minimum of 100 pounds sitting in the seat. The dealer said that there is nothing wrong.

With a passenger in the right front seat the air bag light off is displayed quite frequently.

Since we got the 2004 hyundai elantra in december 2003, there has been a recurring problem with the airbag off light remaining illuminated even though there is a person sitting in the front passenger seat.

"passenger air bag off" indicator comes on an inconsistent basis while riding. Passenger is a 120lb adult female who sits as instructed in owners manual. Manufacturer and dealer claim they can do nothing to prevent this. They blame you for rules laid down regarding sensors. Has happened numerous times since purchasing car feb 23 2004. Date listed below is latest occurence.

Since i purchase the car in aoril of 2004, the passenger air bag indicator continues to read air bag off when a passenger is seated in the front seat who weighs over 56.4 pounds through about 160 pounds.this is recall number 03v322000, hyundai recall no. 062.the manufacuturer will not fix the problem unless i sign a release which does not incidate anything about the air bag working with someone seated in the front passenger seat weighing more than 56.4 pounds.they want me to waive my rights, not telling me the parameters they will reset the computer to activate the passenger air bag if necessary.i have a copy of the agreement they want to to sign. Along with a letter i sent them dated10/18/2004.according to the dealer service manager, this is a problem on all their 2004 models.please help me.

The passenger air bag is not activated when my wife of 120# is seated in my 2004 hyundai elantra.this has occurred from the time i acquired the vehicle.i took the car in and was given the run-around in that there was not a fix.on your site you state that the remedy is a re-programing by the dealer.the maintenance supervisor at the dealer has not heard of that.i acquired this car as a result of my 2001 elantra being totaled in an accident that activated both of the front air bags, which i consider prevented serious injury to me and my wife.my last conversation with the supervisor at the dealer stated that there is a posible fix in that the air bag deployment would be modified to enable deployment at all times.he also stated that i would have to sign a waiver if they were to do so.this is beyond me.i don't know how anyone could design a system without the means to calibrate it for people with narrow rears.the air bag sensor is supposed to be enabled for weights greater that 56# as stated in the owner'smanual.a 60# individual is not very wide.

Passenger air bag intermittenly is enabled/diabled with proper eight passenger sitting properly in the seat.

Air bag light remained illuminated while driving. Vehicle had been todealeronthree separate occasions, and dealer stated that nothing was wrong with vehicle.

Consumer's was experiencingthe same exact thing that was described on the internet only for rent a car business.front air bag sensor indicator light came on, indicating that no one was sitting inthe seat, even though there was someone there.

The vehicle was parked in my apartment's parking lot.my wife and i entered the vehicle.i started the engine.we both buckled our seatbelts and i took off the parking brake.as i was reaching for the gearshift, the driver's side air bag deployed without warning.

After picking up my new 2004 hyndai elantra on friday april 30, 2004 i noticed that the passanger side airbag on/off light was not working properly. When i sat in the seat, in any and every position with my seatbelt on, and the seat in all different positions the indicator light would say passanger side air bog off. I am a female that wieghs 160 lbs .i brought the car back to the dealer the next day and they said that they would take care of it. I brought the car to their service department on monday may 3rd they called me on tuesday afternoon and told me that they could not replicate the problem, so they could not fix it. I went there that day and sat in the seat in all the positions, i sat in the seat exactley as they say you should and the indicator light still displayed passenger side air bag off. They took the vehicle back in to be repaired. They called me on wednesday afternoon and told me that they chekced all of the sensors and that the computer says that everything is working properly and at this point there is nothing they can do to help me. They handed me a copy of hyundais techinical service bulletin from febuary 2003 and told me that this is the way that the car is supposed to work.they told me that this system was required in new cars by nhtsa and that they can not fix the problem nor will they refund or replace my vehicle. When i called hyundai consumar affairs they said that they are not aware of any problem of this kind. They refered me to nhtsa saying that it is you who reqquires this system and i should talk to you with any concerns. The dealer insits that this is the way the airbag system should work for a adult who wieghs 160lbs, and are going to give me back a car that does not have a working passenger side airbag for a 160 lb female.

- the contact stated that she received her recall letter in 2005 for campaign # 03v322000, and she had the recall repaired at the dealership on 03/22/06.1 week after the repair she had to contact the dealership and inform them that the air bag sensor light was still not working properly.the contact has call the manufacturer and was told after the recall that they will replace her vehicle or refund her purchase price.as of 1/12/07 the issues has not been address and the manufacturer has not responding to her complaint.the contact gave manufacture complaint # 994795.the contact stated that her airbag doesn't recognize anyone sitting on the passenger side of the vehicle.

The air bag seat sensor kept showing no passenger in the seat, which indicated the air bag will not deploy in an accident. Manufacturer stated the consumer should make contact to have the bag deactivated. Consumer did not wish to have this done.

Passenger side occupant sensor light for passenger side airbag reapeatedly goes on and off when a 122 lb. Full grown adult female is sitting properly in the seat.unfortunately, the dealer says they've done what they can, and that their hyndai corporate contacts have done what they can.seat and sensor system replaced twice, to no avail.i belive this to be a safety issue if the car has a severe frontal impact and the passenger side airbag doesn't deploy!

2004 hyundai elantra, when a passenger is riding the light on the dash keeps comming on with the message "passenger airbag off" the car was taken into the dealer, and he says the person is not heavy enough for the seat sensor to pick up.the person weighs 140-155 pounds.when the light is on the air bag will not deploy.

Numerous incidents where passenger airbag sensor does not work .it is defective. Still does not work.dealer, hyundai manufacturer, were notified and claimed they can't find anything related to this. Was in repair shop twice.nothing done to correctthis.car is unsafe.passenger is at great risk or serious injury or death due to air bag not deploying while adult is in passenger seat.no one returns our calls.we made numerous attempts to no avail.

The consumer noticed that while someone was occupying the passenger seat air bag light appeared onthe dashboard.the vehicle was taken to dealer for inspection numerous times, and mechanic was not able toduplicate the problem.two mechanics had driven the vehicle, with the consumers wife in the passenger seat, as the light stayed on, goes off, then had come on again.the problem have not been corrected. *sc

I purchased a new 2004 elantra in april 2004.after i bought the car and having driven it for a few miles, i realized that the passenger airbag was disabled.since the day i purchased the car, i have ridden in the passenger seat several times, and regardless of the position, the airbag remains disabled. When the odometer read 1,000 miles, i took the car in for service and i requested a check of the passengers airbag sensor. When i picked up the car, i was told that everything looked normal; however, the service manager explained to me that this feature was part of the design for the new 2004 model.he offered me to test drive a brand-new elantra to compare it to mine.the other car had the same design flaw. I am disappointed and frustrated. I do not consider the car to be safe. On july 14/04 i sent a letter to the dealer and to this date i have not been contacted by them.

Passenger air bag sensor incorrectly detecting passemger 50 pounds or more. Passenger air bag "off" ligth stays on even is a passenger 100 pounds or more are seated properly.

Passenger's air bag should be turned on when sensor reads weight over 56.4 pounds. However, air bag is turning on after reading 160 pounds. Dealer can reprogram air bag sensor at consumer's expense. *tc

Dealer performed software repair for passenger seat airbag recall.problem still exists.

Passenger's side air bag light stayed illuminated when the passenger seat was occupied. When an occupant was in the passenger seatsensor indicated that the passenger's sideair bag was off. This should only occur in the unoccupied seat. Recall o3v322000 was issued, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.

Passenger's side air bag sensor is not working properly.the passenger-side front seat is supposed to have a sensor that activates the air bag system when someone over 56 pounds in weight sits in that seating position.however, this is not the case.the air bag system sensor will intermittently operate correctly.consumer was advised that her vehicle's identification number is outside of the scope of the safety recall (campaign no. 03v-322).*al *mjj

On 3/4/2005, while driving on an interstate highway, the car stalled and wouldn't immediately start. It did start later. I was towed to a dealer, which replaced the crankshaft position sensor.on 4/21/2005, i got to my parked car to find that it wouldn't start for 10-15 minutes. The symptoms were very similar to the march 4 incident, without the stalling out on the highway to preface it. The following day, i took the car to a different dealer, where they tested the car but made no repairs.i wrote hyundai. A regional representative contacted me and asked that hyundai have an attempt to fully investigate. I had an appointment at the dealer i purchased the car from, and the regional representative contacted them to coordinate examination of the car. The dealer had one of their top electrical systems people examine the car in consultation with the regional office on 5/7/2005. They could find no problems.on 1/3/2006, the car stalled out on an interstate highway and wouldn't start immediately. A dealer replaced the crankshaft position sensor.on 1/13/2006, the car stalled out on an interstate highway and wouldn't start immediately. A dealer examined it and consulted with hyundai tech line but did nothing.i sent hyundai another letter. They asked to be able to send a regional technician to look at it. A dealer replaced the power control module and checked connections per directions of the regional technician. Hyundai deemed the car okay because the technician went for a 15 mile test drive; the car has had three potentially fatal incidents in 22,491 miles. A representative at the regional office said the they replaced the power control module based on incidents in other cars, where the error code for the crankshaft position sensor has come up. He said this was a "precautionary measure," that the technician wasn't able to verify the component that failed, and could not explain why the power control module wasn't suggested earlier.

While driving to florida on i95 using cruise control traffic began to back up in the richmond area so the wife hit the brakes. Car did not disengage but rather sped up to the control setting. Repeatedly hitting the brakes had no effect so we had to manually disengage the unit. The incident was reported to the dealer of purchase as well as to the local hyundai dealer with no resolution other than to pay for them to hunt down the problem. I was able to find that the problem is related to the disappearance of all brake lights and will temporarily fix itself if i hit the wiring harness in several locations.. It is not due to a faulty brake pedal switch. This was reported back to the dealerships with the same result then to hyundai usa on nov 4, 2010 case number [xxx]. Hyundai maintains it is a service issue and not a safety issue and that my only recourse is to pay the dealer to do a diagnostic check. I informed them that if they google hyundai brake light problems there are many people reporting loss of brake lights who may be unaware that their cruise control may disengage. They have closed the case so i am requesting that this be put on record. Condition still exists after 6 attempts to repair.. Is an intermittent electrical problem in the harness connector i believe. The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. While driving various speeds, the throttle positioning sensor failed on more than one occasion. Upon deceleration, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle accelerated rapidly. In addition, the contact described the brake pedal as having a "dead spot", thus the vehicle accelerated on its own after the brake pedal was depressed. On one occasion, there was an increase in the rmps that was directly related to the worn position sensor. The contact independently replaced the positioning sensor. Millennium hyundai (265 north franklin st, hempstead, ny 11550) was made aware of the failure and acknowledged the failures. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 105,000.

Sudden acceleration incidenti am the son of the car owner. I was driving the car. The incident occurred about 8:30 am on june 17, 2010, in bethesda, md.i was exiting the giant food parking lot and stopped for traffic along old georgetown road.the car stopped but then all of a sudden inched ahead.i pushed down harder on the brake; heard the engine racing; saw the tachometer go past 6000 rpms.i immediately put the transmission in neutral.the engine was still racing.i turned off the car.i started the car and the same thing occurred, the tachometer went past 6000 rpms.i turned off the car.i rolled the car to a parking space.i called my wife.a few minutes past, and i started the car again.this time it operated properly.i took the car to fitzgerald auto mall that evening, for next day service.the technician reported hearing of such incidents when "after market oil filters were used on both hyundai's and on subaru's."i recently had an oil change on that car. The gaskets are apparently not the same as on the factory oil filters.so the oil and filter was changed.they also found a mis-fire code in the computer. So the plugs and wires were changed.there was no vacuum leak code in the system.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that smoke emitted from the engine while driving 30 mph. The vehicle was maneuvered to the shoulder and the contact noticed that oil was leaking from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that a crank shaft seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred after driving approximately 100 miles. The vehicle was towed back to the mechanic and the contact was informed that a head gasket was blown. The vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 86,000. The vin was unavailable.

Crankshaft position sensor...my car has 650 miles and is 2 weeks old.my second crankshaft position sensor malfunctioned this morning.this is a dangerous part to have go as it causes the vehicles engine to suddenly stop, leaving you coasting without power steering to "hopefully" a safe place to wait for the 10-15 minutes it takes before your car will start again.this has happened no less than 10 times between the 2 sensors that i've had go.each time i brought the car to the dealer within 24 hrs of malfunction.the dealership replaced the first one, but they were out of stock this morning, now i have to drive it for another 24 hrs in an unsafe condition, the loaner vehicles were already in use.a search of the web told me that crankshaft sensors have been a problem for hyundai for many years.the dealership will replace it again at no charge.having this happen in a place where there is no breakdown lane could be life threatening.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph when she engaged the accelerator and the vehicle stalled followed by the illumination of the check engine warning light. Car broke down at a light on my way to work on friday june 6. It would not start back up. Car was towed to the nearest hyundai dealer. They said the car over heated.repairs were made and car was given back to me on june 11 or 12. Check engine light came on less than anhour after picking up the car. Dealer was closed so called them the next day and took it back. Dealer kept it another day or two to check everything out made some minor repair and gave it back.on saturday june 21, the car over heated again at an out of town location.

On 11/26/07 the cargot overheated, engine check light came onand engine shut down on the highway, coolant leaked out, car towed in. Bridgeport key hyundaireplaced coolant temperature sensoron 04/11/08 the car stalled on the highway without engine light coming on, coolant leaked out, engine failure caused a collision with another vehicle from the back. The car was towed in, it needs engine replacement. We believe the coolant repairs to be defective. Dealerdenies our claim and blames engine failure on poor maintenance. I have read a number of reports about hyundai engine stalling/coolant leak.in addition abs/tcs light has been coming on with the brake pedal vibrating and making noise. Car wouldn't stop as requested especially on wet, icy surface. Dealer cannot locate the problem please investigate both defects.

I was driving a hyudai elentra rental car and i was stopped at a red light with the car in drive and my foot on the brake, and the brake was not holding the car back and the car was drifting forward a little into the intersection.i put the car into neutral and you could hear the engine revving very fast even though i did not have my foot on the gas pedal.i told the attendant when i returned the rental car that the brake wasn't holding the car back at a red light, but told her that i did not know what the problem was.she said that she would take the car out of service to be checked.the following week in the march 9 usa today there was an article reporting that some toyota camrys, camry solaras, and lexus es 300s surged forward with no reason.i believe that this is what occurred in the hyundai that i was driving.i have called avis to give them the car number that i was driving so that they can take the car in to be checked.i have listed the car below as a 2004 model.i believe that it was a 2004 because it was new and had low mileage.a question below asks whether it had cruise control, but i don't know.

I purchased a 2004 hyundai elantra in september 2004.i have had little trouble with the vehicle.i drive to work at 4:30 am.one morning, i took a different route.there were barrier poles planted in the road.i did not see them until the very last minute.i swerved to avoid them.at the toll plaza, the police pulled me to the side and told me my lights were off.the switch was on, but there were no headlights.since then, a number of drivers signaled to me that my lights were off.i was again stopped by the police and told my lights were off.my light switch was in the on position.i took the car to the dealer for service and they replaced the alternator.i still do not feel the low beam lights are bright enough. Any help you could offer would be appreciated.thank you dianne c. Burger.

While driving vehiclehesitated then stalled.consumer was unable to restart vehicle and had ittowed to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced.consumer informed the mechanic that this problemoccurred more than once, and has not been resolved.

Since purchasing the car i have may problems with entering fuel in my vehicle. It takes at least 20 minutes to fill the gas tank. I pump keep shutting off after putting at least .50 in. I called to see if there was a recall but of course there is not one. My check engine light is on now i can imagine how much it will cost me to get the problem fixed. I see many complaints in regard to the same problem i am having please do something about this. I suggest no one to purchase this vehicle.

Have 2004 elantra w/ 77,000 miles.check engine light came on while starting car in am. Car has no symptoms of bad plugs,02 sensor, or catalytic conv. Issues. Runs fine, no different.i have the car checkeddiagnostically and they said the 02 needed changing and new p;lugs / wires. The wires/ plugs arent due for another 30k miles we thought, and the car running fine!was waiting to have this service done as we were given a $613.00 quote! in meantime the check light went off and car running fine!it had just had theoiil changed and a new air filter when this occured, and new gas.it seemed when the car was almost out of gas( i let it run low) i put a better grade from another station and this is when the engine light went off!why would this occure if it is needing plugs, 02 sensors??? also no trouble, roughness or idle trouble, or power loss with this car.could it be bad gas, airfilter issues??please help!!

While filling up the gas tank the straps holding the gas tank broke and now the gastank is hanging down.it looks like the straps are rusted through.i know the car is old but to have both straps fail at the same time is dangerous. I don't know if this is a design or material flaw but it is a safety issue and needs to be looked into.

Knocking sound started in right front when turning right. Not much but progressively louder & longer onall turns. The front transaxle shaft basically went out and had to be replaced along w the ball joints in front end.5 speed

Hyundai elantra gls 2004(1) no events led up to failures(2) between 15000-20000 miles ignition stopped working - fixed by hyundai after weseverely nagged them for days- car is less than 18 months old has 32,000 miles on it nowclutch disk is supposedly burned out- i have never hada clutch burn out on me or anyone i know much less at a mere 32,000 mileswant to charge me 300 to see if warranty might cover it; however if it doesn't they will charge me 800 or so to fix this problemcar grinds when turning-hyundai will not check it out, supposedly warranty also does not cover this.steering wheel is completely falling apartvanity mirror cover fell off yes, all this happened within 3 months of each other. I am now completely afraid to drive my car. The gears do not catch well and are getting progressively worse. The reason i bought this car was for its amazing warranty. Come to find out the warranty doesn't cover anything at all.hyundai did replace my vanity mirror. Now if only the freaking car worked!i will never buy another hyundai.

Vehicle was undrivable when clutch went bad without any warning at about 13,900 miles. Dealer charges $900 to replace clutch due to warranty only being 12 months 12,000 miles. I was able to have hyundai cover the cost of the parts ($260) but i paid 100% of the labor.in 30+ years driving i never had a clutch go bad on me in less than 100,000 miles. And the only time i had prior clutch problems i was able to put the car in gear and drive it. This time the clutch was so bad that it would not move the car unless it was going downhill - atother times the motor just reved and the transmission just slips.

I purchased vehicle new in march 2004.i previously owned a 1994 hyundai excel which i also purchased new.the durability of the excel and the warranty on the elantra were the reason i chose to buy it.at 13,000 miles in april, 2005, the clutch on the elantra began slipping.i took it to the dealer and was told that the clutch is not covered under the 100,000 mile warranty.it is covered only under a 12,000 mile warranty.after negotiation with the management, the dealership agreed to cover 50% of the repair.this was acceptable at that time and the problem appeared to be corrected.it is now august, 2006, and this vehicle has 33,066 miles on it and clutch #2 is wearing out.starting out in low gear is difficult, the clutch slips in the lower gears (2 and 3)and the clutch pedal is extremely stiff.at highway speeds the vehicle performs ok.i am afraid to take the car back to the dealer since they are more than likely going to put the same piece of junk clutch in as a replacement to this one.i have talked to an independent transmission shop and they can use a non-oem part to replace.the only problem with this solution is that the cost is going to be +$1000 versus the $800+ that the dealer will charge and the use of the non-oem part may void the vehicle warranty. I would like to point out a few other facts:the 1994 excel went to 122,000 miles before needing its clutch replaced.the replacement clutch was still in the car when it was traded in at 176,000 miles.my wife and i have been driving standard shift vehicles exclusively since 1990, so i don't want anyone at hyundai suggesting that we don't know how to drive a standard shift vehicle.i currently drive a 1997 plymouth a5 speed transmission.its clutch was replaced in april 2006 with at 135,000 miles.my wife, who is the primary driver of the hyundai is a professional bus driver.

Clutch failure at 52,792 miles.i own 3 other cars ; ford, honda, and chevrolet with clutches well over 120,000 miles.it is not a result of my driving.hyundai would not replace.not covered under the warranty.

I bought my hyundai elantra in may 2004 and the clutch is burned out. I had a jeep wrangler for 10 yrs and the clutch never burned out. I also had a toyota celica that was manual that never burned out. I was quoted $1500.00 to get it fixed even with the so called warranty. Supposedly the warranty on the clutch is only for 12 months or 12000 miles.ak

I really want to be safe and i want my family safe.

Whiledriving35-45 mph and turningto the left consumer'svehicle was involved inaside impact crash. Seat belt didn't hold the driver, andair bags did not deploy.a police report was issued.

I own a 2004 hyundai elantra and when i tried to put on my seat belt on the drivers side which is shoulder and waist, the belt would not retract back and, thus, it does not fit securely around my shoulders and lap. I was told by the dealership that i would have to pay for the belt to be fixed for the seat belt warranty had expired. I disagreed with this since this is a safety feature. This is when i contacted you.

Driver's shoulder belt and both rear shoulder belts are twisted, and unable to be retracted. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who d replaced one of the shoulder belts, and untwisted the others. Currently, problemrecurred.

Rear seat belts;took vehicle to dealer for annual inspection and was told that amongst other things the rear seat beltswere rotted and needed to be replaced. Was told to pay for it since not covered under warranty.

The driver was involved in a frontal collision, upon impact the passenger seat collapsed.only the driver's air bag deployed and no one was injured. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.*sc

Back cover on passenger seat continues to pop out. When certified dealer said the problem was fixed, one day later the backing was again ajar. Risk for fingers to be caught. Happens repeatedly.

The antilock machine is locking the wheels so much that stops the car completely right in the midle of the traffic and the tires smell like burning tires. I had the car towed twice. I am so afraid that this happens while drivingin the highway, that i do not drive there, only the streets.

The contact owned a 2004 hyundai elantra. While driving approximately 60 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and seized without warning and the steering wheel seized. Car has been serviced three time for grinding in the rear of car when brakes are applied.i have never been told what the problem is, just that they have fixed it, but it never stays fixed.first time (10/06/04) they lubed backing plates and sanded shoes; second time (04/20/05) they replaced rear brake shoes and drums; third time (08/15/05) they replaced both rear wheel cyclinders. I am treated very well by the service department personnel, but, i have a car that continues to have brake problems. This is a bad accident waiting to happen!.

Traveling southbound on interstate 5.accident occurred in front of me requiring sudden application of brakes (panic stop).brakes failed completely.the brakes worked partially after swerving and pumping the brakes.it was also found that the brakes had failed completely upon backing the vehicle.a mechanical inspection determined that the engine-booster vacuum line check valve had failed.

Dt*: the contact stated while turning left at low speeds there was a grinding noise that came from the rear of the vehicle.the dealership was unable to determine why the rear brakes had failed.the vehicle was taken to a local independent repair shop.the mechanic determined the rear brake sensors were bent and both rear brakes were replaced and the rotors were turned.the manufacturer has been alerted.

Vehicle caught on fire in the engine compartment while driving 40 mph. The local fire department arrived to extinguish the fire. Dealer and the manufacturer werenotified. The consumer stated that she smelled smoke coming through the vents while driving.the engine light came on and the vehicle lost all power.vehicle brakes went out.the consumer stopped the vehicle and her and the passengers got out of the vehicle within seconds of flames.*tc

While applying the brakes pedal went to the floor. Vehicle continued to accelerate and rolled back when on theflat surface.consumertook vehicle todealer for inspection.

Loud clunking noise and vibration from rear of car when braking. Took it to dealer and they replaced warped rotors and machined brake drums at 4,400 miles. Problem started again and even worse at 4,700 miles. I will be taking it in today. I'm afraid that after 12,000 miles the warranty will not cover them anymore, even though they are obviously defective and have been from the start.

My new elantra has corrosion on the wheel spindle threads and nut. There is also corrosion on the wheel lugs andnuts. I returned the car to the dealer for evaluation,k and was told that corrosion was no problem. I requested to speak with the factory representative and have so far been ignored.

Around july of 2008 i noticed the clear coat on the roof, trunk, and fenders start to delaminate. The car had less than 100,000 miles and was waxed every six months or so. I thought it was just my car which is black, until i saw three more cars of the same color do the same in the exact same spots.is this normal for the clear coat to peel off or not at 4 years old and less than 100,000 miles?

Hyundai elantra 2004 roof buckled while driving. While driving the consumer heard a loud banging noise.he pulled over and noticed that the roof had buckled.the vehicle was taken to the dealer but they refused to provide any assistance because they believed that someone stood on the roof of the car.

Dt:2004 hyundai elantra, vehicle accelerated without the gas pedal being touched, consumer first tried the brakes which did not stop the vehicle from accelerating. The consumer had to ride the brakes until she could get the vehicle off the freeway, she put the vehicle in a variety of positions, for example drive, park, and neutral the engine still raced, consumer even turned vehicle off and back on and the vehicle would not stop racing, consumer applied both feet to the brake and turnedvehicle offtwo or three times before the vehicle finally stopped, the vehicle had to be towed home, the dealer fixed the vehicle the first time, and replaced the throttle sensor, this occurred on nov. 18, 2004; this same problem occurred again on june 2, 2005, the dealer states that by replacing the engine check modular that it should fix the problem, and the dealer replaced the engine check modular, consumer is concerned about the safety of the vehicle, the vehicle smelled of a burning smell after the second time . Updated 12/27/2005.

The contact owns a 2004 hyundai elantra. While the vehicle was slowly reversing with her foot on the brake pedal, the rpms suddenly increased and the vehicle accelerated in reverse. The contact had to depress the brake pedal harder to prevent further acceleration. The failure was intermittent and becoming progressively worse. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. Also, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled but when she turned it off and restarted it, the problem corrected itself. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000 and the current mileage was approximately 54,000.

While applying the brakes pedal went to the floor. Vehicle continued to accelerate and rolled back when on theflat surface.consumertook vehicle todealer for inspection.

I was driving with my cruise control on and a car stopped in front of me.i hit the brakes and my car accelerated.this is the third time this has happened.fortunately, i was able to slam on the brakes and the car stopped.also the air bag light does not go off with an adult in the front seat.this is very concerning.

Vehicle acceleration.

My vehicle revs on it's own.starting and stopping through town is very dangerous because it is difficult to stop the vehicle.as i hold the brake down the car continues to accelerate as if my foot is on the accelerator.the car revs in park, neutral, drive, and reverse.i took it to a local mechanic.he cleaned out the fuel throttle and the problem went away for about 1 week and came back.i talked to another mechanic and he had never heard anything like it.he told me it was probably a defect.

One morning last year, my wife and i discovered two small (1/8" dia.) pock marks on the outer surface of our 2004 hyundai elantra's front windshield.the glass is labeled: korea autoglass laminated a.we assume that the marks were the result of stones or similar objects which flew up and hit the windshield while one of us was driving.we did not witness the event. Within a few days, we noticed that a surface crack had begun to "run" from one of the pock marks down the windshield - about 2 to three inches in length. A few weeks later, when we brought the car to the dealer for a recall fix unrelated to the windshield, we were told the crack was probably the result of the original dings and was therefore not a manufacturing defect.i have been driving since the late 1950s.never on any car i have owned have i seen an entire windshield threatened by what began as minor damage such as was sustained by our elantra.to date, the crack has increased down the windshield to about 8 inches, and appears headed for the lower windshield frame.i wonder if any drivers of hyundais or other makes have reported a similar experience with windshield damage.i should think that a well-made quality laminated glass would be able to withstand what started as a minor mishap.thank you.sincerely, ken spalding.

2004 hyundai elantra stud fell from the back of the hub on the vehicle and the brake pads were broken and laying in the drum.*mr
