The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. When the brake pedal was applied, the brakes failed to function properly. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal several times to ensure that the vehicle completely stopped. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to service the brake system. In addition, there was an abnormal noise coming from the front of the vehicle associated with the upper or lower control arms. The check engine and air bag warning indicators remained illuminated. Also, the vehicle failed to refuel in a reasonable time frame, which caused the contact to have to wait an extended period of time during refueling. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was not available.

This vehicle is hazardous to be on the road.it has front end steering and suspension problems.it has a terrible vibration from 35 mph and up.if traveling on the highway the wheel shakes so badly that your hands go numb.i have had the vehicle in for service and repeated time over a two and a half year period, and the dealership has done nothing.i have also spoken with the manufacturers on several occasions, and have done nothing.it has gotten to the point that i had an accident, because of these problems.i now have a permanent injury that i will live with for the rest of my life, and they still do not care.i have 2 small children, and i am afraid every time i leave the house that something will happen with this vehicle, and one of my children get injured.fortunately, with my accident i was alone.in my accident my steering locked and i hit a stone embankment at about 40 mph with the front end and my air bag also did not deploy.unfortunately i am stuck driving this vehicle, when it is unsafe, and unfit to be on the road.it is a hazard to my family, and all others on the road with me.i sincerely hope something can be done to these dealerships, and manufacturers to ensure they are selling our consumers a safe and reliable vehicle.*la

Turning onto main street when a large oak tree fell from left side of road, catching lower drivers sidefront fiberglass bumper and tow bar. Making the car stop abruptly. Air bags deployed, passenger side shattered windshield and ripped dash area on passenger side. The bag hit my wife's right arm and shattered all the bones from her elbow to her fingers. We are 74,and 75 yrs of age. As driver my lip was split open. I was able to drive the car to my home 5 blocks away looking through a shattered windshield. But the wife had to spend 5 days in hosp. And two surgeries to put her arm back together. The air bag did all of the bad damage to my vehicle and my wife.all attempts to have legal help has been turned down saying not enough to take to court. Can you help. The air bag almost killed her. They are supposed to help not mame...thankyou

I have a pending case no. [xxx]with hyundai.my son's vehicle has been at advantage hyundai in hicksville, ny (the "dealer") since april 5 pending a recall repair (nhtsa campaign id no. 09v125000).i contacted the dealer again today and spoke to michael keily (516-465-7700) who informed that he had no idea when the needed part will be available and therefore he was unable to give me a date by which i can expect the vehicle to be repaired. Mr. Keily also informed me today that hyundai corporate will only pay $35 per day for a rental replacement vehicle.i contacted enterprise car rental and they informed me that a compact vehicle will cost $58.50 per day given that my son is 21 years old. My son has been without a vehicle for a month, has no means of transportation to get to his summer job and cannot afford the economic hardship of paying an additional $23.50 per day. I contacted hyundai corporate (1-800-633-5151) and after being on 'music hold' for over 2hours, two different customer service representatives informed me that they would need an additional 2 to 3 business days before they could provide me with an answer as to whether hyundai would absorb the full cost of a rental vehicle.hyundai has failed to repair my son's vehicle 'within a reasonable time" (page 14 nhtsa "motor vehicles safety defects and recalls- what every vehicle owner should know") and therefore they should be compelled to pay for the full cost of a rental vehicle without further delay. My air bag light comes on and off randomly while driving.i debated on whether or not to take it back because it wasn't on continuously.they always say we can't duplicate the problem.well now the air bag light is on continuously and i set up an appointment.they called me and said the computer is showing 12 different codes for the air bags and that they noticed something sticky like pop on the wires.they said they weren't going to cover it under warranty.my first issue with that is they should be sealed off completely so a little pop shouldn't fry the air bag.the only reason i bought my hyundai was because of the warranty and the assurance that i wouldn't have to worry about anything for 5 years.unfortunately that isn't the truth.after 6 months or so i realized that i had to start my car for atleast 15 seconds before i could actually put it in drive and go.but why wasn't it like that in the beginning?and after the first year i notice rust behind the passenger doors in near the wheel wells where the car is welded together.that's a real high quality car right there when you have a car that's 10 years older and it doesn't have a spot of rust, that shows quality.what does hyundai show?not much as far as i am concerned.it shows poor quality and a company that doesn't really stand behind their warranty.lets not forget the fact that the transmission in the car is horrible.it shifts into second gear so hard and sounds like a canon exploding.the light above the license plate burnt out 2 weeks after they replaced it the first time.and the fact that all the wires inside my doors were corroded after two years and had to be replaced.so, now i have a problem with the airbag module being destroyed and they said i spilled pop or something in the console and that's what caused it.after so many problems with wiring in the car they don't see that this could be legitimately a manufacturer defect in the module.abl.pco

Spokane hyundai matteri bought my hyundai in 2001 and have over 100,000 miles on my car.i am the sole owner of the vehicle.recently (about 2 weeks ago) my dashboard airbag light went on and i called the dealership to inquire what i should do.i am concerned that the airbag may not deploy or may be defective.hyundai spokane (the dealership who sold me the car) said to bring the car in for them to investigate.i brought the car in the next day: december 21, 2011 and the car dealership informed me that it would cost me $90 for them to run their tests to determine what is wrong with my airbag light.they went on to say that there were a couple of recall notices on the car that they could replace.this airbag concern is a safety issue that is mandatory for the dealership (manufacturer) to investigate and fix.this safety issue is for the life of the car, so even though my warranty has expired on my engine, transmission, etc; the safety (airbags) is for the life of the car.why would i pay to have spokane hyundai investigate and fix a problem that hyundai is responsible for?if i had an accident and the airbag did not deploy or ineffective; spokane hyundai is liable and at fault.why is spokane hyundai trying to gauge the customer (again) for expenses they are responsible for fixing?could you pleases investigate.thank you[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Abs system failed during braking, causing rear end collisionair bags did not deploy.

1. There were no noticeable events that led up to the failure. Hyundai had a recall on the air bag sensor control module in october 2008 (recall id# 80141 & 80132). I had them install the new wiring harness and clips to prevent a spontaneous failure, but i had a failure none the less.2. The front driver and passenger seatbelts failed without warning. I heard a loud bang noise and the seatbelts tightened up on both front passengers. I noticed an odor after the event and the seatbelts would not extend or retract and the air bag warning light was illuminated. I understand this safety feature was meant to deploy in the event of an accident, but i didn't hit anything. 3. I took the 2001 hyundai elantrain to hyundai to diagnose the failure. The following codes came up on the computer: b1361, b1360, and b1366. I was told i needed to replace the front seat belts and air bag control module.

We purchased a 2001 hyundai elantra gt in sept. 01. Since that time, we've had problems with the air bag sensor twice. Both times it was fixed by the dealer. In our accident, a 35mph front end collision, our air bags did not deploy. We have registered a complaint with hyundai, who says it will take approx. 30 days to decide whether or not they deem an investigation necessary. The dealership will not deal with us, they say we need to go to hyundai. In the meantime, we are left with the choice of repairing our vehicle and having hyundai claim they cannot make a determination of faulty merchandise because our vehicle was fixed, or paying storage fees at the body shop and renting a car until hyundai decides. And, if hyundai decides they will not do an investigation, there isn't even an appeal process.

Headlights burning out frequently was the first sign of problems, replaced themas the dealer said this was inherent to the 2001 elantra. In august 2006 check engine light came on. Also, the air bag sensor light was on, headlight out again, took car to dealer, they called back and said thatthe alternator had been over charging and not only was the over chargingburning out the headlights it also had taken out the cruise control module, and air bag module. Car had only 42000 miles on it,and was 2 weeks from being out of the 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. Well here it is 6 months later and 47000 miles and check engine light is back on, i have since purchased a diagnostic tool to read the codes. The car was running rough at idle. The codes came up as mis fire on cylinder 3, tps sensor failure and map barometer failure. I replaced the plugs and wires, engine still ran rough. Took car back to dealer they replaced the tps, still running rough, they suggested that because of the faulty tps that the excessive dumping of fuel into the jets could have caused one of them to be clogged. I had them clean the jets as well as replace the plugs and wires again (they had also found that #3 wire had been arcing.) this took care of the idle problem. I took the car home and the next day driving the car would surge between 3rd and 4th gear, engine light back on. Still have the maperror. Dealer ended up replacing the map sensor. It has been about a month since this last occourence and all i can do is cross my fingers until i trade itin.abl.pco

I own a 2001 hyundai elantra.the air bag warning light came on while driving and stayed on.i took it into the dealership in dec. But they found nothing wrong with it.the problem continued for several weeks.i took the car into the dealership on jan. 6, 2004 and they claim liquid got on to the air bag sensors and computer through the emergency brake housing, so they feel they are not responsible for the $1100.00 replacement, even though the car is still under warranty.i feel it is a safety issue and poor design to not protect the sensors with a cover if they are going to install the air bag sensors next to the emergency brake, which are next to the cup holders.although there is a possibility that a drink might have gotten splashed near the emergency brake, i do not ever recall that happening, and no one else drives my car.however, i was told that hyundai corp. Does not feel this is a problem (the positioning of the computer in a vulnerable place) because "in korea, people don't eat or drink in their cars".then tell me why there are cup holders in their cars.i think their export models should have the air bag sensors and computer placed somewhere else, or, at the very least, in a covered box. When she picked the vehicle up, the air bag light was on.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated the module was no operating. The dealer informed the consumer it could have been from moving the seats. Several months later the consumer received a recall letter regarding the potential problem.the consumer made an appointment to rectify the situation as stated in the letter, only to be told they were only required to put a protective cover over the air bag module so that liquid could not get into the module. 2001 hyundai elantra gls -- one month ago (january 2007) the airbag light on the dashboard commenced slowly, dimly appearing then slowly fading out in one continuous cycle of several seconds.the condition repeats as long as the ignition is switched "on."i noticed hyundai's recall of the 2001 hyundai elantra for exactly that problem and took the vehicle to the local dealership for repair.evidently, the condition is caused by one-or-more faulty airbag sensors.the result, according to the recall information, is that one or more airbags may not deploy when activated.the dealer entered my vehicle's vin, told me that my vehicle was not covered by the recall and refused to replace the sensors without charge.because of the exorbitant cost of replacement, please ask hyundai to include my vehicle in the recall and/or mail me a letter of credit that i can give to the dealer to have this condition repaired.accordingly, i must continue to drive the vehicle in this condition until i hear from you and/or hyundai, here concerned.otherwise, last june, 2006, both sun visor retaining brackets (holding the visor to the roof) cracked about a month apart, rendering the sun visors useless, in that the placement of the visor cannot be controlled. . .it simply drops and hangs when released from the retainer.my driver's side bracket broke just at the most inopportune moment, when the sun was shining directly into my eyes at a level just above the top of the steering wheel.i feel fortunate to have been on a lightly traveled road at the time, such that i pulled over onto the shoulder for a few minutes until the sun rose a bit higher in the sky.those brackets should last longer than this; likewise, the airbag sensors should last longer than this. I have had some electrical problems from the day i purchased the car.tried to resolve these with hyundai but they said unless they were currnetly happening when the car was brought in there was nothing they could do about it.the mirror will sometimes move on its own and sometimes the electrical in the car will all go on without the car being on. The malfunciton light lights up here and there also.also i have a problem with my front end suspention being very shakey and my brakes shake when stopping at higher speeds.i have only had the car a year.one more problem that it has is a major bolt in the front suspention went bad a month after i bought the car and so the dealer fixed that but they said it came off the assembly line that way.the electrical problems started a month after purchase.i bought the car new.i hate my car.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuse, wiring, and door switch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

All four windows stopped functioning at once. Researched this problem and it is extremely common. This is a major safety problem in case windows are needed to escape from vehicle due to accident. The temperature of vehicle can also exceed safe degree due to windows not opening. No warning was given before all windows ceased to function. Started vehicle and windows would not work from any control. Had to take mother to doctor for heat exhaustion from excessive temperatures building up in car.

Check engine light came on three different times first repair was engine manifold, second repair was oxygen sensor, third time the dealer could not find the problem.dealer probably unplugged the light all repairs were under warranty but dealer suggested i get the service done since they had it in the shop.both sun visor plastic clips that hold the visor in place broke off and on the passenger side the visor is broken at the swivel arm.all of the small plastic door plugs have fell out.remote gas tank door will not open on cold days.vehicle pulls to the right and wheel shakes at speeds 35 and above.small scratch in paint goes down to the primer.

Vehicle commenced to overheat while driving at 30 mph. Vehicle was towed to a repair shop, andmechanic determined that the problem was cause by a bad thermostat. Vehicle was towed to a dealer, who informedconsumer that the problem was not the thermostat, but it was an electrical problem.

The brake lights stayed on all night after car was put in park and engine was turned off, causing battery to lose all power. This could be caused by a faulty brake/stop light switch.a recall was issued for brake/stop light switch on different years and models of hyundai vehicles. My 2001 hyundai elantra gls was not included in the recall but probably should have been.

It has been about a month since this last occourence and all i can do is cross my fingers until i trade itin.abl.pco

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph when the air bag warning light illuminated. The warning light continued to illuminate until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for the identical failure five times. The total repairs performed consisted of rerouting the air bag wire harness, tightening the pin connectors and the air bag terminal. Also, the air bag module connector was repaired. The vehicle was repaired for a recall under the nhtsa campaign id number 00v332000 (air bags: side /window); however, the remedy did not correct the problem. The failure continued to occur after the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 7,364. Updated 11/11/10 the ignition cylinder would not turn at times. Updated 11/18/10the seat track was replaced due to the seat being loose. Updated evoq 12/10/10

Air bag warning light, on dashboard, continues to remain illuminated. The paramus hyundai dealer has supposedly repaired this problem 4+ times. I was told that while this warning light is on, the airbags would not deploy in the event of an accident.abl.pco

Airbag light keeps turning on.on march 4, 2004 my car was serviced by hyundai for this problem.the service rep. Told me that the wires that run under the seat have a tendency to become disconnected.this past week, i moved the seat forward to vaccum the interior and the aribag light is back on.i moved the seat back and the light turns off.also, the same issue seems to be causing an electrical short circuit in the radio's wiring as the radio no longer works.abl.pco

1.daughter driving car on highway when electrical components such as radio, door locks and interior lights stopped working and door chime rang continuously.on jan 22, 2005 she started car, driver's side rear window went down by itself and electrical windows and other interior electrical components stopped working.an acrid burning smell then developed as well as wisps of smoke from the door and dash.2.as a result, and due to safety concerns about possible fire and damage to vehicle, the car was undriveable and had to be towed to repair shop. Overriding concern was that possibility of fire and further damage existed. 3.inspection and investigation by repair shop indicated that the main electrical harnesses running through both front doors were corroded, shorting out and one had evidence of scoring and melting.further investigation revealed that the manufacturer, hyundai, had a technical service bulletin, #03-90-009 (which superseded #01-90-004) that addressed the condition that water could get up into the area of the wiring harnesses and cause corrosion and shorts.repair required replacement of four wiring harnesses, two on each side, and sealing the area in the car structure where the water could enter in the first place.repair completed per the manufacturer's tsb.the old wiring harnesses were kept by owner.

Everytime vehicle has been started engine check light would come on and remainduringduration of driving. Been in contact with dealership, and was informed a ground wire inchassis was causing the problem.

On friday, september 28, 2012 at approximately 9:30am i was pulling into a parking spot at the heb grocery store on i45 at 646 in league city, tx when the engine on my 2001 hyundaielantra revved and roared very loudly and surged into the pickup truck parked in the opposite spot.at the time i did not have my foot on either the gas pedal or brake.i stomped on the brake but nothing happened-it just kept revving and surging forward. I shoved the stick into park and luckily it stopped.my car was now in the space the pickup truck had been parked in, and the pickup truck was shoved out into the driving lane between parking sections.i am extremely thankful that no one was in the pickup or walking by or loading groceries nearby and no one was hurt.i was so frightened i was shaking and could barely dial 911 on my cell phone.the pickup had minor damage to its rear bumper, and my car had crushing damage to the front end (hood and bumper crumpled, grille cracked, 1 headlight broken) and a large puff of white smoke poured out briefly (no fire). The police case# is 12-4584 and the state farm insurance claim# is 53-195c-229.the car was towed by aaa to star toyota collision center at 2112 gulf freeway in league city, tx.i am awaiting their evaluation on the damage and have been told it may be totaled due to the age of the car, although it only has 55,000 miles on it.even if the car can be repaired, i am worried that the revving could happen again. The internet has numerous sites listing the same type of revving/surging problems with hyundai elantras but doesn't list a recall for this problem.what can i doin regards to this scary event?is this a major vehicle problem with this model ?i am extremely concerned andwould like to hear from you as soon as possible as to what the next step should be to address this issue.

I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. The headlight constantly were blowing out, it guzzles gas like crazy! then now two sensors are bad and per the dealer they have been having numerous problems with these sensors but won't replace them? i love hyundai always had one but this one turned out to be a pain in the butt.

We had to replace the headlights several times with in the first year of owning our hyundia elantra when on october 5, 2002. They went out resulting in an accident. My husband switched from brights to dim for on coming traffic when he noticed he was having problems seeing do to the front head lights burning out.he missed seeing a four way stop sign and side swiped another car going about 35mph. The passenger air bag deployed and shattered my left wrist which has resulted in 3 surgerys and daily physical therapy with hopes of getting the use of my hand back.dt

One or the other of the headlights must be replaced at least once every six months.

Passenger headlight went out with in a year.

Car died just driving down the road. 1st hyundai dealer told me my fuel was dirty, needed 1 new fuel injector and i should pay $330 to flush the other 3 injectors. Not covered under warranty.i called the dealer where car was purchased and was told to not have them do the flush - get the car and bring it up to them. Before i could get it up to them, thecar did the same thing within 72 hours and had to have ittowed to them. They told me i had purchased bad gas and all 4 fuel inj/fuel rail/gas tank needed to be replaced - $1187. 5-6 weeks later, same thing happened-out of town and they are telling me it's my fault and will not help-now its $1900 and hyundai will not help at all. The dealership will not guarantee the work they did 6 wks ago. The car is in tulsa, i live in kansas city and have been without my car for about 3 wks. Hyundai will not loan me a car or help me get a rental. All they keep telling me is i keep buying bad gas. There is no way that i am buying bad gas. I purchase gas at the same place and so does everyone else in my family and noone else is having problems. I do not have the money to pay them and do not feel that this is my fault. I have called regional offices, etc and no one will help me.the impression i am getting from the service mngr in tulsa is that the car was not correctly fixed at my dealership. He won't come right out and say that but he is implying that more should have been done - hence the $1900 this time.please let me know what i can do. I am not letting this go.i should not have to pay for this work and i'm not going to budge.

Can fill gas, constantly stops pump when not filled.

While starting vehicle consumer noticed it would not turn , and a strong fuel smell came frominside vehicle. Consumer inspected vehicle, and noticerear seats and carpet were soaked with fuel. Vehicle was towed to dealership, and technician determined thata rodent chewed through fuel line.

The car caught on fire! the cause of the fire was a leak in the fuel line.

I purchased this my hyundai elantra from a used car lot.it wasn't long after i purchased it, i noticed that when i stopped to fuel up my vehicle that as i begin to pump fuel, it would click like my tank was full.then i would start pumping it again and then it would do it again.this happens every time i go to fuel up my car.and it annoys me so much.i am disable and have lots of back problems and can't stand too long with out bad pain.it doesn't matter in the hot heat of the summer months or very cold winter days, this is rough on me, in my condition to deal with a car that i love and is the best car i ever owned even though it was used when i bought it to be stressed out every time i fuel it up.is there a way, free of charge that you can fix my fuel tank to where it will not do this anymore.please contact me and let me know in what steps are available in getting this fixed by the manufacturer.i think this should be a top priority.

While filling car with gas, the gas spewed back at me and got all over my right side and into my eye.fortunately, my eyesight wasn't impaired.since then while putting gas in the car, it clicks off as though it is full and it takes a long time to fill the pump and it still overflows if i am not careful.this is a waste of gas and the manufacturer should do something about these complaints soon!

The contact owns a 2001 hyundia elantra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the contact heard a metal to metal dragging noise outside of the vehicle. The contact reduced the speed being driven. Upon reaching the destination, the contact noticed that one fuel tank strap fractured and the second strap was slightly detached. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000. The vin was unavailable.

When filling gas, the car will not allow you to put more than 3/4 of a gallon in at a time and more often less than that.

The car cannot accept more than 0.5 to 0.7 gallons of gas at a time when filling.it is necessary to stop filling the car for 20 to 30 seconds before adding more gas to the tank.if the gas pump runs too fast or puts more than the mentioned amount in, gas overflows out of the tank down the side of the vehicle.

The ball joints cracked which caused the front left tire to become detached from the vehicle while driving approximately 70 mph on the freeway. The consumer contacted the manufacturerbut they have not done anything about the issue.the vehicle's tcm/ecm software failed which caused the transmission to slip/surge while driving.the vehicle would not go into reverse due to an internal failure.the dealer replaced the a/t assembly and flushed the a/t fluid.the left sunvisor was coming apart.the visor clips broke and as a result they could not hold the visor in a stable position.seat belt bolt cover broke.the passenger side door lock was hard for the passenger to unlock from the driver's side.the dealer replaced the door latch and actuator assembly.the vehicle's heater took about an hour to effectively warm the vehicle.the dealer determined that the blend door was loose at the actuator.

The latch mechanism failed to hold the hood closed after a minor collision. The hood opened up and flipped back unto the windshield, breaking the glass, damaging the hood. The vehicle was being driven at 40 mph at the time. The latch popped out from the hood thus releasing the hood. This latch was revitted on to the hood on thin sheet metal which stretched and release the latch. It should be note that i was blinded when the hod flew opened and was lucky to be unhurt. I looked at other car latch and they are of a superior design.

When car is started cold and put into reverse, foot applied to the gas, there is a period of hesitation before it goes into gear.after you reach the point to put the car into drive it once again hesitates causing a "jerking" feeling.the car has been brought in twice a month for the past 6 months and the problem is still on going.i have contacted hyundai customer service and spoke with chris.he was no help either.he promised me over and over that the problem would be resolved and once again nothing was done.i contacted kevin at the fucillo import center (they sold me the car) he told me his service department has made several attempts to remedy the problem but they never actually fixed it.they replaced the transmission, sensors, valves and other numerous items only for the same problem to reoccur.the general manageroffered to trade me into a used vehicle for. I declined.i have paid lots of money on this car why would i want more problems???since the purchase of the car i have had nothing but problems!!the window panels have peeled numerous times. They have been replaced and still peeled.i don't believe this is due to the body shop, i think this hasto do with the quality of the product.the car has been taken in to have them replaced and there were times when the body shop was never notified the car was there.hence they were never replaced.i have told many people who have looked into to buying a hyundai that they are not worth the time, money or aggravation.i hate my car!!never again will i deal with such rude, unqualified people again!

When the car is started cold and put into drive, foot applied to the gas, there is a period (approx 10-15 seconds) of hesitation and then the vehicle will jerk forward.this is especially dangerous when starting the car and trying to pull into traffic from a parallel parking space.i have tried to pull the car out into traffic and it hesitates for an extended period.i have almost been hit on several occassions trying to get the vehicle moving.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. The contact stated when driving 65 mph the vehicle will shift on it's own to 1st gear, and sometimes the vehicle will stay in 1st gear. The driver stated the vehicle will also shift it's self into neutral and the vehicle will also begin to accelerate on it's own. He had to pull over and turn the vehicle off and then back on. The contact stated the power windows and the windshield wipers are not operating properly as well. The contact stated he had contacted the dealer and they stated that none of these issues are covered under the warranty and he would have to pay out of pocket. The failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.

Transmission does not shift properly between gear 2 and gear 3. Transmisson appears to shift into neutral and gains 500rpm before shifting. Dealer says nothing wrong and cannot fix.8ak

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra.the contact stated that the vehicle will either not accelerate or not accelerate as expected when the accelerator pedal is depressed.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the transmission pressure control solenoid valve seals failed.they replaced the transmission and several months later the failure recurred.the manufacturer stated that because the vehicle exceeded its warranty, they would not assist.the failure mileage was 94,000 and current mileage was 97,000.

While driving 45 mph, the consumer's vehicle crashed into a vehicle in front of her.the seat belt was worn, but the air bags did not deploy.the clutch pedal had to be replaced twice in the last six months.the dealer and the manufacturer were aware of the problem.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. While the vehicle was being repaired by an independent mechanic, the contact was informed that the front end cv joint boot on the driver and passenger side were broken. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was repaired. The current mileage was 167,314. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving 25 to 30 mph on a wet pavementconsumer's vehicle hit head-on into another vehicle, and seat belts did not lock.contacted manufacturer, and manufacturer sent someone out to look at vehicle.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while attempting to secure the front drivers side seat belt of the vehicle, the seat belt would not retract to properly secure the driver. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was not available.

While driving at 35 mph consumer's vehicle was cut off by another vehicle, resulting in a collision. Upon impact, seat belts didnot retract, and the air bags did not deploy. Policearrived on the scene and the other driver was cited for the collision.consumer sustained bruises on chest/neck and back.

The seat track locking system does not always hold.the lock fails throwing the seat backwards on the track when putting the transmission in first and letting the clutch up to go forward.after the 2nd occurrence, , after i adjusted the seat i pushed the control lever down feeling it click in.performing this extra cautionary movement has not always held the seat in place.the last incident occurred this july, 2002.i will try to have it addressed by the dealer at my next oil change.

Car shimmies really bad at 35 miles an hour replaced front brakes and rotors front struts tie rod ends both inner and outer to no avail i am sick of putting money in this piece of junk.

Took 2001 elantra to dealer as a result of low brake fluid.dealer discovered vehicle unsafe to drive and irreparable due to corrosion of rear cross member and/or "spud".it is our understanding that this corrosion occurred in the area where brake fluid was leaking.it has been suggested that the problem is due to road salt.however, we also have a (lower-mileage) 2005 elantra which we keep parked in the same garage as the 2001 elantra and which, to the best of our knowledge, shows no sign of corrosion.

All 4 brakes started to randomly lock up. I was driving and had to run it almost a 1/2 mile for a shoulder to pull over at. Upon stopping, the brakes were smoking all around the car and the front driver side actually caught flame. I'm guessing brake booster is the cause. Also front control arms are almost rusted through. The cars been well maintained and has around 185,000 miles on it. Has valve cover leak into spark plug port on cylinder 3 and has a very weak clutch that sometimes slips.

The consumer states that when trying to apply the anti lock brakes, the brakes will lock up causing the consumer to have a vehicle accident.dealer notified.the consumer states that after mcconnell, she had taken the vehicle to big 10 to check the brakes.the consumer states that she and a passenger were at a red light when the consumer depressed the brakes, no stopping occured and ran through the lights.the consumer struck the rear bumper of the vehicle in front of her.*scc

Brakes failed.unable to stop.had to initiate emergency measures--emergency brake, put car into park.

Consumer had to constantly put brake fluid in vehicle.when the brakes were applied the brake pedal went to the floor, and vehicle hit another vehicle. There were no injuries.the dealer was contacted.

Since new, our 2001 elantra has had an intermittent "thumping" sound in the rear wheels while brakes are applied. It would go away for months, then return, usually after some maintenance event such as a tire rotation. Internet searches reveal that this is a very common complaint. People have replaced all sorts of parts; wheel bearing, suspension parts etc., usually with no fix. I found the cause, and there needs to be a recall !! on our model, the wheel nuts are "closed", meaning that they are not drilled and tapped all the way though. On our car, some of the wheel nuts bottom out on the wheel studs before the brake drum is secured. When brakes are applied, the resulting loose brake drum can "wobble" on the studs, making the sound,. Another issue contributing to the problem: there is one phillips screw which secures the brake drum to the hub. In my case this screw was missing, probably having been left off during a safety inspection. However, if the nuts were not bottomed out, the drum would be secure even if the screw is missing. It would seem that this condition could eventually lead to stud failure. At the very least, it is a serious aggravation. Probably the least expensive way to fix this would be to replace the wheel nuts with ones that are deeper, allowing more clearance for the end of the wheel stud.

Brakes engaging and overheating on the freeway, intermittently; this may affect the ability to stop quickly enough in an emergency.details: since the brakes were first serviced at just under 4,000 miles, there is a continuing problem with the brakes randomly engaging by themselves on the freeway.when this happens, its not sufficient to cause the vehicle to stop, but the car at times will labor to maintain speed.the car also produces a low pitch humming sound and a stiff vibration (shimmy) in the steering wheel.the brake pedal pulsates when barely touched (at the time this phenomenon is occurring).after a number of miles the symptoms disappear. The frequency of this event is about once every 100 to 200 miles.i believe the humming, steering wheel vibration, and pulsating feeling of the brake pedal is because the brakes are in an overheated state due to the calipers dragging.hyundai service is unable to replicate this problem, but i strongly believe this is because of their failure to sufficiently road test the vehicle; i.e., they may have to road test the vehicle for 2 hours in varying conditions, hot weather, mostly freeway to replicate.hyundai, after being given the above description of problems on two different service calls, has never resolved the issue (of course, meaning the cause of the problem remains a mystery).i have videotaped this phenomenon, which happens about 30 minutes into the videotaping session.i am willing to make copies and send to those who feel viewing the tape would be helpful in determining the appropriate course of action.please advise if youd like a copy of the videotape, and if so, where it should be sent.please e-mail at: [email protected].

Braking from highway speeds 70 down to 50 results in serious vibration and pulsation due to out of round disc brake rotors.feels like possible loss of braking control.problem has existed since vehicle was new and corrected only by machining the front brake rotors.original rotors machined 3 times in 65000 miles.original rotors recently replaced with new oem parts and problem occured again within 5k miles.complained to dealer and hyundairegional manager.explanation was that rotors are not defective if out of round and condition can be corrected by machining.appears rotors are unable to withstand braking temperatures and warp as result.quality of steel material used in manufacturing the rotors appears poor.hyundai does not seem to acknowledge problem with flaw in manufacturing process.

The brake rotor overheated, which caused a grinding noise when the brakes were applied.dealer is aware of the problem.mr

The next day after purchase and the first time i used the auto in reverse there was a loud clunk from the rear right side of the brakes.it sound like the brake shoes were loose and the retaining springs pulled the shoes into proper alignmentwhen the self adjusting brakes came into operation.i was on an approch ramp at 55 miles an hour to merge at 65 to oncoming traffic.i was looking back for on comingtraffic,i look up and a car was stopped, i slammed on the brakes. The car finally stop inches from the auto ahead.no skid mark.the wheels didnt lockup.i brougt the car in.on advise of the factoru the cleand up the rotors, replaced the front pads.thisa positive indication that they are aware of sucha problem.upon a test drive on my own i found i could not lock up the brakes.later i took the car back and had the service manager test drive the car with me.he also could not lock up the brakes.he said he test drove 2 other elantras and they reacted the same.police measure speed at an accident by the skid marks left.if i were to get into an accident they would find no skid an assume i didnt even apply the brakes!!!these are not anti lock.i'm worried.i need help before i'm killed and the accident report says, he didnt even apply the brakes.there were not skid marks and the police could only speculate at what speed he must have been traveling.h e must have been drunk, had a heart attack or passed out.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. His vehicle was repaired according to recall 03v257000 ( service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). After the repair, he noticed that the brake lines had holes in them which caused brake fluid leakage. There was no compression in the brake line , so the pedal fell completely to the floor during application.he took the vehicle to the dealership and was advised that the entire brake line needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. No repairs were made. The current mileage was approximately 58,000. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.

I have received a motor vehicle recall notice under hyundai campaign number 091.i called to schedule an appointment and asked for a loaner car as i can not afford one.i cannot miss work and do not have money for health insurance, much less a rental car.i spoke to hyundai motor america and they said that they would not provide a rental car.my office is twenty miles from the dealership.the recall notice warns of an increased "risk of a vehicle crash without warning".i am concerned for my safety.

The steering wheel vibrates over 60-65 mph and stops at higher speeds. The vechicle also pulls to the right. I have the original tires and have had my car since new. I have had wheel alignments, tire rotations and all tires balanced. The pulling gradually returned as did the vibration on the steering wheel.dealer says that it can't fix it.

While driving with my infant granddaughter i hit the brakes to avoid hitting a deer. I was going 35-40 miles and hour and the whole control arm in the front of my 2001 hyundai elantra snapped. It was all rusted out. I did some research and discovered this is a safety recall which i was never notified about. There are 26 other cars at the dealership with the same problem. We could have been killed had i been on the highway!! hyundai failed to properly notify consumers of such a dangerous situation. I also had to have my car flatbed towed an hour away to the nearest dealership at my own expense where i am still waiting for the parts to come in from hyundai. No eta on that. Hyundai wouldn't pay for a rental until i threatened to contact the media and the bbb. Two days later, i was approved for a rental. I still feel that this needs to be made aware to the public so anyone else driving this vehicle knows to get the repairs done so you don't get stranded at night or almost killed like we did!!

Was exiting off of the parkway to the right traveling approx. 25- 30 mph when i lost control of the vehicles steering causing me to crash into the curb of the median. Resulting in both of the front tires to blow out and pushing the wheel on the drivers side back into the wheel well. The control arm was broken when we looked at the damage after. The vehicle which is a 2001 hyundai elantra had to be towed. Also the airbags did not deploy. I am looking into this recall for that vehicle. Mileage at time was 99,400.

The manufacturer had not been notified. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.

After 1 1/2 months of driving this brand new car i began having problems with the steering.the car would wonder in different directions on the road and freeway.i also had steering wheel shimmy.they have aligned my car at least five times on different occasions and forced balanced the car twice to no avail.in march of 2003 an independent service evaluated my car and found both tie rod ends (outers)were extremely lose and needed to be replaced. Because of the faulty rods both the front tires are now cupped on the outer edges and the dealership refuses to replace them. Hyundai performed the work and the problems got a little better, but have since gotten worse again. I am so fed up with this car and need help!i have filed complaint with hyundai customer service, but the problems still exist!

Car shimmies really bad at 35 miles an hour replaced front brakes and rotors front struts tie rod ends both inner and outer to no avail i am sick of putting money in this piece of junk.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph attempting to make a right turn, the vehicle kept driving forward. The vehicle was taken to dealer. The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra.while driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed.the brakes were pumped several times before the vehicle came to a complete stop.a small amount of smoke appeared underneath the hood.the air bag and engine warning lights illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel.in addition, the contact exerted more effort to turn the steering wheel as if there were no power steering.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they replaced the power steering hose.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 98,000.

The breakaway bolt in the steering column had not been seated during assembly as a result steering was not prevented after the ignition key was removed as per the vehicle's owners manual , the bolt was replaced with a new one and the steering function worked as described in the owner's manual.

At highway speeds approaching 65 mph, steering wheel begins to shake. Have been told by several dealerships, tech reps, selling dealer, that tires are out of balance, or out of round. Had tires professionally inspected and balanced, and checked (off the vehicle), various times.... It is not the tires. See tsb 01-50-008, because others have had problems with this. That tsb blames it on the "radial variance" of the tires.... These are the stock michelins they put on the car, when purchased new..... It their tsb is correct, they put the wrong tires on their new cars (it has not been proven to me that this tsb is correct, and that the radial variance problem is causing this). Please call 1-800-325-6604, to get them working on this. It is dangerous to drive this car on the highway (which we purchased it for).... You have to go way above the speed limit, or way below, to stop your arms and hands from being shaken ridiculously..... This causes a hazardous condition for other drivers on the highway. Please help. Ts

At highway speeds approaching 65 mph, steering wheel begins to shake. I was originally told by the dealership that the tires were out of balance or out of round. Had tires professionally inspected and balanced, and checked various times.... It is not the tires.i have lifetime balancing and alignment so the tires are balanced and aligned every 3 to 5 thousand miles.replaced original (poor quality) michelins with high end firestones at 43,000 miles and vibration persist. You have to go above the speed limit, or way below, to stop your arms and hands from being shaken ridiculously...... Service manger at dealership and regional service manager told me the vibration was normal.the vibration might be normal for a paint mixing machine but not for a car. Called the 800-633-5151 number and was told by barbara that since the regional service manager had determined it was normal vibration there was nothing she could do.

While drivingat45mphthe vehicle will make front end vibration. Dealer has inspected the vehicle and could not duplicate or correct the problem. Please provide further information. Ts

Nar 02/25/2003.the consumer had a seziure while driving and asa reuslt he crashed into 2 telephone poles, the air bags and seat belts performed as designed, however the firewall deflected 22cm into the consumer legs and shattered them.

Extreme corrosion led to catastrophic failure of the left-side wheel control arm. Right side control arm was also corroded.

While driving, the air bag light illuminated.the cause of the problem had not been identified.the consumer stated the air bag light continued to be a problem, the dealer would just reset the code without identifying the problem.

Car started swerving due to frame rusting and rear suspension became detached.

I was making a u turn when i heard a loud noise, i was unable to control my car seem to be drifting to one side until i hit a curb... When i got out of the car to see what happen i notice that my wheel was turned inwards and the control arm was broken and the axle had popped out... No one was injured however my daughter was shaking up about what happen... I took several pictures of the wheel and rusty part.. It amazed me how metal could rust that bad and break in half... I thank god i was not on the highway when this happen no telling what could have happen...i called hyundai dealership to explain what happen also to find out if there was a recall on that part and was told there was no recall on 2001 hyundai elantra...

Both rear doors freeze shut when temp is below 32 and can not be opened from outside or inside till warmed.creates safety hazard since rear passengers must clime over from front and are trapped in the rear seats in case of an accident.this happens every time the temp is below 32 regardless of rain, can be dry for days still happens.returned to dealer they can not fix.called hyundai they said they know of problem but cant fix it.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for an unrelated issue where they informed the contact that the entire rear sub frame was rusted and corroded. The dealer informed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and beyond repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

The lower control arm to the sub-frame assembly completely detached from the wheel while driving the vehicle. Thankfully, the vehicle was only traveling at apprx. 15 mph when this happened. The car came to an abrupt stop and had to be towed from the middle of the road. My husband was seconds from turning onto the highway and had decided to bring the car home to check for a problem, as the car seemed to be swaying. If this failure had happened on the highway at 65 mph, he may have been killed. The detached wheel turned outward and wedged into the wheel well, there is damage to the wheel housing and quarter panel from the detached wheel.

On 2 different occasions there has been catastrophic failure of front suspension (lower control arm) for my 2001 hyundai elantra, and loss of control of vehicle. One incident in which the drivers side control arm had rusted from the inside out causing it to snap, happening about 7 months prior to this incident happening last night. The car then spun in the road causing endangering to traffic and a near head on accident. This new incident, (same problem)the control arm snapped on the passenger side of the vehicle causing the vehicle to spin out of the road. While operating the vehicle, i experienced sudden loss of control of vehicle without warning and nearly experienced a roll over while driving. From research, i have found there are numerous people with the same problem with hyundai and this seems to be a defect. I also noticed that the nhtsa has an ongoing investigation on the hyundai sonata for the same exact problem, lower control arm suspension failure with rust corrosion. I am afraid this is an ongoing problem with hyundai and is going to cause someone to get severely injured or killed. As far as i'm concerned this is a design flaw and should be corrected with a recall of both lower control arms.

My 2001 elantra had a recall on front control arms.this recall was limited to snowbelt states.the recall says control arms may corrode due to water and salt being trapped inside control arm and may break.their solution was to replace if needed or drill drainage hole to allow water to escape and treat to prevent further corrosion.my car had the drill and treat solution but the control arm broke anyway.luckily the car was being driven at a slow speed when the break occurred,if the car was at highway speed, serious injury or death could have been the result.hyundai admits to the defect but is saying that since the recall was repaired it is no longer an issue.the control arms should have replaced from the beginning but instead they took the cheap way out.i will repair the car and try to recover the money from hyundai as a repeat recall.hyundai should replace all the control arms on cars that are affected before someone gets hurt.

Driving down two lane secondary road making left merge into turning lane heard load bang then proceeded into a skid. Found front left wheel sticking out sideways, police arrived said that i was lucky not to have been on the highway, called aaa and the driver on the scene said i had broken my lower control arm. Came home googled issue and foundrecall campaign no. 09v125000 and called the hyundai number to report incident. Called aaa to tow car from home to the dealer recommended by the hyundai hotline. Did notice plenty of corrosion where the break was....scary situation, not hurt just shook-up.

Extreme corrosion led to catastrophic failure of the left-side wheel control arm. Right side control arm was also corroded.

Lost control of the steering of the vehicle but was able to avoid an accident and stop on the side of the road. Upon visual inspection, noticed that front driver's side control arm was rusted through and disintegrated. Wheel was basically detached from the car and folding up under the wheel well. This is a recall item in all northern states because the material rusts when exposed to road salt. Because i'm in north carolina, the recall doesn't apply to my car. However, i live in the mountains of nc where the vehicle is exposed to road salt throughout the winter season. This vehicle needs to be included in the recall, as it's a serious safety issue.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. While driving 50 mph, the air bag indicator illuminated without warning. In addition, the vehicle made a rumbling noise and jerked to the right while driving. The vehicle was diagnosed as needing the lower control arm replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 118,000. The vin was not available.

During the winter of 2002, i began to experience a vibration in the steering wheel, along with the vehicle pulling to the right. I brought the vehicle to the local dealer who, after charging me for a balance and rotation to "identify the problem" told me that the problem was with the tires and alignment. The dealer insisted that there was no problem in the front end. In june, 2003 i had the factory michelin's (which had about 32,00 miles when the problem started) replaced with new tires and a four wheel alignment. The pulling is gone, but the vibration remains. It is particulalry noticeable at highway speeds.

As with others that i have read the steering wheel vibrates over 60-65 mph and stops at higher speeds.the vechicle also pulls to the right.i have the original tires and have had my car since new.i have had 2 wheel alignments, 2 tire rotations and all tires balanced.all temporary fixes. The pulling gradually returned as did the vibration on the steering wheel.i don't feel safe driving this car.

Steering wheel vibration and shimmy since new. Takes place only at speeds above sixty miles per hour. Hyundai is aware of the problem and has not offered an actual solution to the problem as of yet. Numerous other hyundai owners have the same complaint.

Vehicle is garage kept in southwest virginia, not a northern salty climate. Taken in for muffler repair and when put on lift the rear crossmember fell out. It had completely rusted through frame ! like i said this car is barely driven and we usually don't even get snow in the winter so there is not much salt if at all !i have had my grandkids in the back of this car ! it's not just where the rear crossmember is that's rusted either ! talking about a rust bucket, you can peel layers and chunks of rusted metal off with your hands ! these cars should not even be allowed on the roads !somebody is going to die from these ! after talking to some other elantra owners they were not aware of this situation either but have found issues to be the same ! the front cradle was already replaced due to rust recall and crashes ! i guess hyundai won't do anything cause our government won't make them !i mean seriously think about it like this- would you put your kids or grandkids in this car ?i sure hope you don't have to ! i will never own another korean vehicle as my kia was the same way !dangerously rusted and newer than the hyundai ! please, please. Please save somebody's kids from failing through a rusty floor. Mine is so eaten up with rust i'm obligated to send it to the crusher. For gods sake if you own a korean vehicle check more than your oil. I just wish we would have thought to !

At 20,000 miles, the rear tires were worn badly and unevenly.was told by a michelin dealer it was unsafe to ride on tires.was told by 2 dealerships (who did not look at the car) this was a rotation problem, even though the front tires were fine.dealership finally realigned rear wheels, both were out of toe to the same degree.i complained the manufacturer should replace the tires since it was a problem with the factory setting and not due to negligence in maintenance.they finally agreed to pay half the replacement cost of the tires.*nlm

Car shimmies really bad at 35 miles an hour replaced front brakes and rotors front struts tie rod ends both inner and outer to no avail i am sick of putting money in this piece of junk.

The contacts owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle was emitting a loud humming noise from the front passenger side when driving straight or making right turns. When making a left turn, the noise went away. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the control arm and ball joint failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The mechanic stated that the failure was related to nhtsa campaign number: 09v125000 (suspension); however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

We purchased a used 2001 hyundai elantra for our son to take to college. On monday evening (9/21/09), he was stopped at a stop sign when the wheel fell off of the vehicle and the front axle fell to the ground. The policeman at the scene informed my son that he avoided a serious accident because he was stopped when the incident occurred. Upon researching a "carfax" site, i found that the vehicle was subject to recall for corrosion and fracture of the suspension system. We were never notified of the recall, neither by the manufacturer nor by the dealer from whom we purchased the vehicle.\my concern is that this was a potentially deadly condition and we had no idea that it existed.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact was unable to control the vehicle and crashed into a snow bank. The passenger sustained minor injuries by striking her head on the passenger door. The contact stated that the technician did not replace the lower control arm but applied a corrosion treatment and added a wax application instead. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure was 78,800.

My wife was driving to work and had just come to a stop when the front suspension collapsed.she had the car towed to our preferred repair shop. They told use that the suspension had rusted out and that they had never seen that before.

Hyundai recall campaign 091 - late recall notices, inability to fix the problem due to lack of parts, putting the drivers at risk.

2001 hyundai elantra, 72k miles, driver's side control arm fractured while going 5 mph.it had rusted paper thin and gave no warning.axle, fender and front bumper are destroyed too.loren hyundai of glenview, il acted stupid about it, like they had no idea what i was talking about and no concept of the potential liability involved in such a manufacturing defect.i will talk to corporate on monday.i am reporting this incident out of concern for public safety.this must be addressed by a recall, in my opinion.

Lower control arms on 2001 hyundai elantra.car has 79000 miles on it and came to a stop sign and the drivers side lower control arm rusted through and cracked causing the wheel to tilt and pull the vehicle. Also caused the sub frame to crack.thankfully i was only on a side street and not on a highway when this happened.who knows the car would have reacted at 65 mph, would i still be alive? car has been fixed at a bill of $2400.00. This is more than the car is worth at this time.

During routine oil change my mechanic noticed that the driver side lower control arm is rusted so severely that failure is immanent. I brought the vehicle to my dealership and was told this is normal for a 7 year old car with 66k miles on it and they would repair at the normal charge. From my research this is a severe safety issue that should be handled by the dealership at no cost and is not "normal". Luckily it was caught before the part failed on my commute down interstate 495 twice a day.i will be following up with hyundai corporate to get this issue fixed - they should stand behind their product.

I have waited nearly 3 months due to backordered parts to remedy elantra suspension recall. (nhtsa recall 09v125000).

While pulling away from a stop light, the car lost steering control and went into on coming traffic.i was able to get the car off of the road and luckily avoided a head on collision.i had the car looked at by a mechanic, and he said the passenger side lower control arm had rusted away.he said he had never seen anything like it.this is a very dangerous part to have a failure on, you lose complete control of the car.

Left front, lower control arm failure, while operating vehicle at less than five miles an hour, while making left turn across roadway, to enter driveway.at edge of roadway, just before reaching driveway, experience fall of front portion of vehicle to road and loss of control.inspection reveals left lower control arm separated into two pieces. One piece remains attached to ball joint, one piece remains attached to car.further inspection reveals lower control arm rusted through, from inside out.only a minute before, vehicle was operated on limited access highway, at highway speed.note: vehicle garaged, within attached garage, with concrete floor.vehicle serviced regularly.

During normal driving conditions at approx 40 mph my wife's hyundai elantra's passenger side front wheel popped and began rubbing the back of the wheel well. Luckily she was able to avoid other vehicles and continue about one block into a repair shop lot. It was determined that the control arm had rusted through and just broke. The shop replaced both side control arms with used parts.

Front lower control arm rusted through and caused loss of steering and an accident.

Traveling less than 25 mph i applied brakes to avoid a pedestrian running across traffic. After stopping vehicle was difficult to steer and made loud grinding noise. I was able to get out of the traffic flow. Vehiclewas towed to service station. Repair was made to the left front control arm that rusted through and snapped .service mechanic stated that it was fortunate that the failure had happened aslower speedand that a failure at highway speeds would have possibly resulted in loss of control of the vehicle and possible injuries. The part was returned to me.

I drive a used 2001 hyundai elantra gt.after running a search and finding that you investigated the sonatas for severe rust issues in the wheel well area, i knew i should write to you.my car started veering to the passenger side.i brought the car to the dealer.they found a rust-caused hole in the front passenger side control arm.it had come from the inside out and eaten all the way through the arm.they told me i was lucky that my wheel well had not snapped off the chassis.when i went to pick up the car after it was fixed, they said they had put the broken control arm in a vice and it had snapped easily.

Both control arms on my 2001 elantra went while i was driving. I was told it was not a defective part by hyundai. My mechanic reported he had never seen anything like it. Upon turning the wheel to the left and trying to drive forward i heard something break and the car would not move. Upon investigation the lower control arm was broken near the ball joint. It was not a ball joint failure, the lower control arm either fatigued or sheared, maybe due to corrosion. The drivers side halfshaft was pulled from the transaxle at the inner cv joint.

Everytime vehicle has been started engine check light would come on and remainduringduration of driving. Been in contact with dealership, and was informed a ground wire inchassis was causing the problem.

Speedometer does not work in the very cold, sometimes your driving for up to 20 minutes with no speedometer. Its been to the dealer at least 4 times. We left it with them for 4 days, but because the temperature was above freezing they couldn't see it not working so they could not fix it.my daughter goes to school in philadelphia(she drives it) so it works less when she's home in vernon, nj.has anyone else had any complaints about a similar problem.there's colder states then new jersey. Hyundai doesn't seem to have a clue.there was not a specific incident date, it began not working in the winter of 2002 when it had just about 10,000 miles on it.

I dropped my grandson at his mother's house. As i exited her driveway my car experienced sudden unintended acceleration. I could not stop the car and struck the house across the street.

Rpmswould go from 1,000 to approximately 3,500,and vehicle will suddenly accelerate while in a low gear. Dealership examinedvehicle, and determined that a computer chip needed to be replaced.please provide any additional information/attachments.

On december 14,2012 i was traveling north up a hill at 35 mph when suddenly they car accelerated to 55 mph. I tried to stop but the cars tires screeched and hit the ladies car in front of me. Thank god no one was injured. The front end is toast. I have to have the car examined and find out why it accelerated out of control and did not stop. The car is a total loss.

While traveling in traffic on the long island expressway, the gas pedal was released and it returned to its raised position by its spring.however, the accelerator cable did not release causing the vehicle to continue accelerating.with both feet on the brake pedal trying to stop the car, it still impacted the vehicle ahead.subsequent to the accident, the sticking of the accelerator cable could be replicated intermittently.by tapping and redepressing the gas pedal to the floor the cable would release.at this time, the damage to the car has prevented investigation under the hood.the vehicle damage will be repaired at a shop recommended by my insurance company.*la

When vehicle comes to a full stopit will hesitate and will cut off.

Left sunvisor's bracket breaks and sunvisor falls into steering wheel, causing short steering turn.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. While driving 15 mph, the driver side sun visor broke and fell on the steering wheel, causing him to pull off the road. The dealer stated that had to purchase the sun visor and bracket to repair the problem. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

Rear defroster has not worked since purchase, numerous times to dealer, unable to find the problem.

When the consumer rolled down the windows, they failed to come back up, the consumer was informed the wiring harness from the window regulator was bad, and there was extensive electrical wiring damage which had corroded over time.*phalso the rear defroster was inoperative. . the consumer also noticed the dash lights no longer worked and the headlights did not flash when the door was locked with the key pad.

When the heater was on black dust came out of the heater vents. Also, air bag light illuminated.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Abl.pco

While air system is cut off outside air still enters vehicle.out side air enters both in fresh mode and recirculation mode.

While driving, the air bag light illuminated.the cause of the problem had not been identified.the consumer stated the air bag light continued to be a problem, the dealer would just reset the code without identifying the problem. The driver side window went up and down by itself, the dealer replaced the master switch, the black rubber stripping was missing from the door, the cigarette lighter was inoperative, the battery failed and was replacedabl.pco

Within the space of one month all 4 of my power windows stopped functioning.1st the driver's side window, then a week later the passenger side, followed shortly thereafter by both rear windows.my mechanic said that this is a known issue with the elantra, and i found service bulletin number: 0490010-nhtsa item number 10007954-power window regulator motor.i just wonder why there hasn't been a recall...each motor is very expensive, almost $300...it will cost me over $1200 to repair all 4 motors.

It is back at earnhardts, for the elec. System again 4th time. It started in 3/02 and went out again last fri. 6/6/03 but they don't consider it a problem. Because i filed a lemon law on the previous accent and replaced it with the elantra 2001 and i filled out a survey saying they had bad customer service, the normal use of a rental while they fixed it for days was not granted. I am so upset i spent a day out in the az sun waiting for a tow of 205 miles to the next dealership and they tell me i have a bad record with them and don't deserve the courtesy of a rental car. This is my second hyndai and i have had nothing but trouble with it and the dealership. I have sent letters to the attorney general, three on my side, hyndai and earnhardts dealership. I want out of this car and don't feel safe in it any more. I was going down the salt river canyon (if you are not from az picture going down the twisting road to the grand canyon) without any power steering, brakes and trying to keep control of the car with kids in it. And they tell me i shouldn't be excited! 1 1/2 hrs in the sun waiting for the tow, the next dealership 200 mi away, no rental cars authorized, so my husband has to drive up and get me (198)miles from my house and go back so he could be at work in 3 hrs. No sleep for him. The dates are 3, 4, 6 of 2002 and now 6/6/03. The mileage is 27,694. The cost is theirs because it has the 100,000 warranty. Just the mental and physical anguish and inconvience of another car that won't work right now.

Sunroof popped completely off the vehicle while parked.

While driving front passenger's window blewout.vehicle was checked by dealer.

When travelling at around 45mph, i noticed crack on windshield.i mmediately, went to dealer who told me that it's not cover in warranty.replacedelse where.it seems that my car picks up little debris form road especially driven on bridge /highway.i am afraid that my windshield will broke again and i may get hurt.

Hyundai recall campaign 091 - late recall notices, inability to fix the problem due to lack of parts, putting the drivers at risk.

I went to change oil and they advised me to change the front control alarms because they were very rusted and bad.

The hubcaps are soleyretained to the rims by a plastic split ring retaining washer, upon making the first tire rotation the consumer discovered that the washers had melted on the front lug nuts, the remaining unmelted section fell apart while handling, the consumer believes that the high temperature generated by the front brakes caused the washers to melt.nlm
