Had car checked out at shop. Was same part that was replaced by recall. Told hyundai maybe the part went bad. Was told they only fix recall item once,i would have to pay to replace it. My wife purchased a 2000 hyundai elantra vin#[xxx] from brown hyundai of toledo oh. On 4/18/05 she brought the car to brown hyundai at 63,000 miles due to a notice about possible for cracks forming in the exhaust manifold, specifically tsb 05-01-001. No replacement was made at that time.recently, i noticed an existing crack in the exhaust manifold and performed some research on the internet about the problem.i am sure you are aware how common of a problem this has been as there are numerous complaints on various automotive forums, the nhtsa, and various states' department of consumer protection.i had the vehicle recently (10/08/12) inspected at voss hyundai of centerville oh who has confirmed the existing crack. At 125,000 miles the car is passed its powertrain warranty.simply because it was not visibly evident in 2005 does not mean the manifold was up to hyundai's quality standards. Exhaust manifolds are cast iron or steel and are not a moving part subject to friction.therefore, i cannot accept that this current problem is the result of standard or expected wear-and-tear but caused by a pre-existing defect that has surfaced over time.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I bought a brand new 2004 hyundai elantra from fuccilo's in schenectady, ny in march of 2001.i have maintained the car.on friday oct 08, 2004 i was driving on the northway and after 20 minutes of driving the car started overheating and i pulled off the road immediately.no warning lights came on and the car's speed dropped dramatic to 0.it was towed to my mechanic and he looked at everything and said that the cooling fan was melted and the wire harness on top valve cover was totally melted and that the belts looked fine.he said it was something internal in the engine and i had to have it towed to fuccillo's because the engine is gone and it would be a warranty issue.after having it towed to fuccillo's my husband and i went there to see what was going to be done.the mechanic opened the hood, did not take anything apart and said it was the timing belt that broke and it was my fault so it would not be warrantied.they offered me 50.00 for the car towards a new car.i already owe 5000.00 on the vehicle, i only had it for 3 threes.i called my mechanic who had taken it apart and confirmed with him that the timing belt was fine.i called fuccillo's back and the mechanic said he would look at it but it would cost me 80.00.i agreed because i had no choice.i then received a phone call days later telling me that the belt "jumped" and damaged the engine so it would not be covered he also stated that another code (p0118) came up but he didn't know what that meant.he told me that they would not do anything else that i had a choice of trading it or paying 6000.00 for a new engine.

The ring on the radiator filler neckbroke off.while trying to check the fluid levels of vehicleconsumer's son attempted to remove the cap of the radiator, and the ring broke off with parts still attached to the overflow hose.

I had to replace thermostat/radaitor/spark plugs/wires, and oil change in novemeber, costing $800, the following month i had to put a new engine in my car, costing $6000. My car is still in the 10year 100,000mile warranty, and the hyundai dealership has had my car over 3months.

I have had an intermittent low-speed stalling problem with my 2000 hyundai elantra for a long time.finally i recently had a technician drive the car for a week, and he was able to duplicate the condition and the dealer suggested replacing the throttle position sensor and then after giving them the ok on doing it, they installed the part, only to tell me later to do a very expensive repair (over 1,700 dollars for replacing the wiring harness). Having paid for the throttle position sensor, i began driving the car again. I not only noticed no improvement at all in the performance of the car, the performance was actually worse. I tried to get the dealership service department to stand by their repair, but they wouldn't. In "recalls"on my computer i found that there was a stalling problem for all models of 2000 hyundai elantrasidentical to the one i have been having that created the risk of a crash, however my vin number was not included in the recall.the recall information on the internet states with regard to the cause of the problem: "...stalling could occur if the maf (mass air flow) sensor electrical signal is interrupted as a result of engine vibration transmitted to the maf sensor connector wiring harness."i have been told that in such cases where the same problem is a serious issue and some vin numbers were not included in the recall, that they are often then added to the vin numbers in the recall. I would appreciate your consideration of including my vin in this recall based on the foregoing. My [xxx] the site i went to on the internet under service - recalls gave a campaign number of 00v259001 and listed the faulty components as: electrical system: wiring, and the potential consequence as: " this condition can cause the engine to stall, increasing risk of a crash."and the corrective action as: " dealers will re-route the maf sensor connector wiring harness." updated 07/17/2012

Whiledriving at any speed vehicle stalled. Consumer restarted vehicle and took itto dealer for inspection. However, mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

I had to replace thermostat/radaitor/spark plugs/wires, and oil change in novemeber, costing $800, the following month i had to put a new engine in my car, costing $6000. My car is still in the 10year 100,000mile warranty, and the hyundai dealership has had my car over 3months.

2000 hyundai elantra gsl. Car stalled @ 30mph. Pulled over to the neares shop. Problem narrowed down to a fault y spark plug wire. Dealer (len stoler hyunday/crysler of reisterstown, md) refused a warranty repair, claiming that this component is not part of the engine! that covered under warranty.

The vehicle stalled when slowing down to make a turn. Dealerwas not able to duplicate the problem . The dealer has duplicated the problem and replaced the mass air flow sensor, the throttle position sensor and crank sensor.each time the problem recurred shortly after it was repaired.this problem has been ongoing since 2002.there was a recall for the wiring which was completed but the consumer wonders if this has anything to do with the stalling.the vehicle will be taken back to the dealer on 6/28/04 because it continues to stall.

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and with no warningvehicle will shut off, causing consumer to pull over, and it will be hard to get the vehicle back started.dealer notified.

Dt: the contact stated when car had 20,000 miles on itstarted having electrical problems. The srslight cameon, and it was making a funny sound at 31,000 miles. Beginning @ 3,000+ miles the vehicle stalled as i was slowing down on an expressway traffic jam.at that time the mass air flow sensor was replaced.this part was later recalled.at 18,000+ it stalled again (last july); a different component was repaired. In september it stalled again.i was told it was partly due to the fact i needed to use higher octane gasoline in the vehicle, but it was still repaired as a warranty item.late december it stalled again.it didn't begin repeating until january 2002.i took the car in on 1/5/02.the dealership kept the vehicle for 12 days waiting for a component having to do with the crank system.they were unable to idenfy the problem for several days, it won't register on the computer diagnostic system.they consulted the manufacturer.the regional representative came to see the car.the car was delivered to me on 1/17/02 supposedly repaired.it stalled again twice the next day 1/18/02.the vehicle is now at the dealership again.it stalls as i'm slowing down to come to a stop sign and particularly when making a turn of any sort.now i'm basically petrified to ride in the vehicle and afraid they'll never be able to accurately identify the problem.i can't use the lemon law because there weren't 3 service tickets with the same problem within the first 12,000 miles.they say they've re-checked the mass air flow sensor, but it's working properly.i don't know what to do!

Fax from congressman dent on behalf of constituent who is requesting assistance in registering a complaint against hyundai.*njthe check engine light illuminated and a loudnoise was heard. The exhaust manifold was replaced due to it being cracked. (the consumer who wrote in, works for the dealership that sold the consumer the vehicle. The dealership didn't charge the consumer for the repairs, however the dealership is requesting reimbursement from hyundai)

Recall notice for 2000 hyundai elantra. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for possible cracks in the manifold. It was inspected and the repairs were completed. *njthe consumer stated the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop and the consumer was informed the manifold was cracked and had to be replaced along with the attached catalytic converter.

I thought my muffler had a hole in it so i took to a shop and they told me there was nothing wrong with my muffler.to another shop and told i have a cracked manifold.i think it's absurd that a 2000 model car could go through 2 manilfolds in 7 1/2 years.was at the dealership on 10/09/03 reporting the exhaust system was noisy.was told it was not muffler but was a cracked manifold.luckily it was repaired under warranty.that was less than 5 years ago.sounds like a big problem to me.i can understand one manifold getting cracked...but two in less than 4 1/2 years.this car is driven less than six miles round trip to work a day.it's not like i'm out tearing up the town all the time in the car.

2000 hyundai elantra has a problem were you can not pump gas withoutgas pump stopping like it was filled although you have only pump less than a gallon. There are a lot of people that own hyundai's with this problem, just google hyundai pumping gas problems. Sometimes gas spills from tank without the tank being fully filled because the gas rises, this is a safety hazard and hyundai must correct this. It will take about 15 to 20 minutes to fill your tank. I think this is a concern for a recall. The other problem is that you take the car to the dealership spend a good amount of money and the problem is not fixed. Im asking you to make hyundai liable for this. It is not only annoying but a safety issue. See why so many people are having this problem and you will be the judge. Thank you for your time.

I found out that my car was put on a recall list in 2000,and i was never sent a recall letter. Now my car is in the garage because the fuel pump went out. Why do some people get the letters and others do not ?diana white

A problem with throttle positioning sensor, it breaks andcomputer cannot sense if carburetor is open or closed. Fuel gets into carburetor, causing vehicle to surge forward.

Vehicle has been inrepair shop more than 4 times forstalling failure.dealership was unable to duplicate problem, and was given back.vehicle stalled while crossing railroad tracks.please describe details.

The contact owns a 2000 hyundai elantra. The contact stated that fuel was leaking out of the fuel tank. While attempting to fill up the fuel tank, all the fuel expelled out of the tank. The vehicle was towed to lee hyundai (1960 skibo rd, fayetteville, nc 28314), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2000 hyundai elantra. While driving, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the evac valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The contact also stated that the front driver side and the rear passenger side windows could not be opened or closed and the front passenger side door would not unlock from outside the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 30,750.

Consumer cannot get out the vehicle frominside once it has been unlocked. Rolling the window down & using the key is the only way to unlock the door.

While driving, the hood released from the hood latch and flipped open breaking the windshield and causing an accident. *mr there was no indication that the hood latch would fail.there were no previous accident or damage to the latch. *sc

While driving about 30 mph the hood latch failed and the hood blew off (shearing the hinges) into the windshield and side view mirror. Fortunately no one was hurt, but it could have been catastrophic hood, hinges, latch, windshield and side mirror needed to be replaced.

After entering the highway at speed of 65-70 mph the hood came flying open. There was no light in the car showing the hood was open prior to this. The car when out of control and crossed over four lanes of traffic. The hood was nearly bent in half over the roof of the car. Luckily no one was injured. The safety switch holding the hood shut is broken. The hood appears to remain shut.

While driving at 15 mphthe hood opened suddenly resulting in damage.the dealer was notified. *nlm

While foot on the brake pedal to stop, vehicle bucked or surged forward before i could reach park to turn off the car. Notice smoke coming out of the right side of the hood.

When car is coming to a stop the transmission/engine rumbles.it has been this way for a couple of years (every day) but on the 2 occassions i took it to the dealership they could not find anything.

The transmission failed without warning, which caused the vehicle to stall, consumer was informed the transmission was on national back order.

Nar 2/10/2003. The vehicle required transmission replacement after only 32,000 miles.when the vehicle was service at 29,566 the mechanic noted that oil was in the transmission and therefore they would not honor the warranty.the consumer had the repairs done by a independent mechanic who found that the bearing on the transfershaft was falling apart, burning the transmission fluid which caused the brown color. The left front window would not roll up.

In december, 2000, with only 5000 miles on the car, the transmission locked up and needed to be towed back to the dealer.since then, the car has had nothing but transmission troubles.the transmission has gotten stuck in 2nd gear while out on the high way.when slowing down, it has suddenly jerked into first gear, causing the car to not accelerate.it has jerked into 2nd gear, feeling like the car has been rear ended.each time it has been back to the dealer, they can find nothing wrong with the car.presently, at 45,000 miles, it is getting another new transmission.

Shift lock sticks in a 2000 auto elantra with around 99,600 miles.i lock up in park in will not get out of park out u put pencil down shift lock hole. Or hit shifter hard forwarded it doesn't always work.have not took to get serviced yet or looked at .

The transmissions on these cars fail and get stuck in gears causing dangerous driving situations and breakdowns. I had several of these cars as company transportation and they all have the same problem.

Vehicle does not downshift when slowing down at an intersection and picking up speed again. Driver has to manually shift down to 2nd gear on automatic transmission. Also, vehicle is reluctant to upshift blocking out engine power. This condition has caused many close call at intersections.

3 months after buying my car, the transmission gasket cracked and they had a recall on it who knows howlong i drove before it finally froze. They fixed it but now im having problems like slipping, bucking at stopp lights and a tingy sound while excellerating the dealer says they tested and finds nothing wrong with it . So all of us with this problems are just in a confused state huh.

The contact owns a 2000 hyundai elantra.while driving between 25-40 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle decelerated.the vehicle began to accelerate after 4-5 seconds.the dealer stated that there was internal failure with the transmission's fourth gear.the current and failure mileages were 81,000. *updated 12/12/2007

There are two problems, i am not sure if they are related or not 1) car will not shift out of park if on an incline.in order to get it out of park, you must force the shifter. 2) car has problems with initial acceleration after a stop.will not go into first gear, transmission will "thump" into gear.transmission fluid level is adequate

Transmission is defective becauseseals were bad onvehicle, andtransmission was leaking fluid. Hadtransmission replaced. Then on the 20th of novembervehicle was picked up, and then on t 21st of novembertransmission was leaking again.transmission was being replaced again.

Consumer was traveling about 40 mph onhighway andvehicle was hesitating/ cutting off and on.no reverse and no forward.vehicle had to be towed.

The passenger window will not roll down. The switch went out 2. Dealership replaced once. The horn was bad. The car doesn't want to shift right. Went through 3 transmissions. Dealership says it fine. It still doesn't want to shift right. It doesn't want to take gas. Want to get rid of car.

1) when slowing down at an intersection vehicle downshifts with a thumping noise and the car jerks violently. When accelerating from an intersection the vehicle upshifts with a violent jerk.2) check engine light is on and dealer states the gear 4 ratio is incorrect.3) dealer unable to perform replacement unless car owner covers cost.

Brakes would pulsate when applied. Took to dealership 6 times for problem.rotors needed to be resurfaced. Then, took to different dealerships for repairs. Currently, has steady banging. I t started around october 25,2001,while driving on the expressway.i was driving in 5th gear around 65 mph when suddenly the stick jumped out of gear into neutral by its self, i looked down to see what had happened,. Ther e was nothing attached to the stick, in other words nothing was hanging (no garbage bag or anything.this has happened at least 6 times.the car growls and i have to put it back in gear, now i'm anervous wreck.i took it into the the dealer twice and they couldn't find the problem.it has happened 3 more times since. I'm afraid to drive past 40mph or take the expressway. It seems to be a problemwith the gear-shift\gas pedal\cluth, you can feel when its going to happen because th pedal moves under your foot and the shift gear moves if you put your hand on it.

I own 2 manual-transmission hyundai elantras, 2000 and 2001.both cars have approximately 35,000 miles.both cars have had their clutches go bad in the past 2 months (master cylinder on the 2001, slave cylinder on the 2000).

This is my son's car.he had been stopped at a stop light and was proceeding to shift from 2nd to 3rd, he heard a grinding noise and the car felt like it had a flat tire.he put in the clutch and coasted to the nearby gas station.smoke was coming out from underneath his car.when he looked, therewas a trail of fluid and a puddle under his car. Car had to be towed -- needs whole new transmission (and vehicle has only 8,500 miles on it).

Stick shift fails to lock in place after shifting. If it's bumped, would shift into neutral. Can shift from one gear to another when barely touching it or brushing against it.

While driving, the seat belt popped loose. The driver lost control of the vehicle. This caused the driver to hit a tree.none of the air bags deployed.the driver sustained head injuries.the driver was seen by a medical technician on site, but refused to go to the hospital. The vehicle was totaled.

Rear passenger side seat belt does not fit one of the passenger's, and hyundai does not offer extenders for the belts. Problems still exists.

Now, the door will not open wide enough for a child to get in or out.in order for me to get behind the wheel, i have to enter throughthe passenger side and climb over the center console.the door looks as if it is detaching itself from the vehicle.also, the roof appears to be sinking.these problems did not exist when i purchased the vehicle.

On 1 july 2010 had daughter's 2000 hyundai elanta at mechanic's for yaerly pa state -mandated safety inspection.car failed owing to extensive rust on rear (not front) subframe (not noted in previous inspections) compromising structural integrity of rear suspension and putting driver, occupants, and others at risk of serious injury or death in the event of a catastrophic failure of part.

I took my 2000 hyundai elantra gls in for an alignment. The alignment could not be performed i was told and shown because the vehicles rear sub frame has multiple holes, is weak and needs to be replaced. I was told that the vehicle is unsafe to drive and will not pass the next maine inspection. I was told that for the work to be done it would cost over $2,000 dollars. The drivers side rear sub frame has a very large hole.

During the replacement of both axles, corrosion perforation was discovered in both of the lower control arms near the ball joints. More disturbing is the fist sized hole, rusted thru the main suspension cross member that the control arms are connected to (drivers side). The entire main crossmember will require replacement.

Three times in five days, my 2000 hyundai was in the shop - two of these times it had to be towed while i waited alone on the side of the highway.first i was told that the thermostat needed to be replaced and that the car was okay.i took it back the day following and explained that it was not idling correctly.i received it back the following day and within 10 miles of driving was having surges in the engine and the rpm's would race into the red.i pulled over and the dealer told me to slowly drive the car back.i tried, but never made it.the closer i got, the worse the car bucked and the rpm's raced.i finally took my foot off of the brake as i decided whether to continue on or pull over, but before i could decide, my car began accelerating on it's own.i quickly got the car off to the side of the expressway and into the grass.the rpm's still erratic and the car idled at 2.5-3 rpm's.this car is a death trap and is not safe.dealership still can not find anything wrong with it.

I am 87 years old and bought a 2000 elantra brand new in 1999. I have only put 25,000 miles on this car in 7 years and the only time i have opened the rear windows was when i hit the wrong button by mistake. Well recently my son drove the car and opened the rear windows - both of them failed in one week. When we took it to the dealership they wanted to charge $69 per window just to diagnose the problem. My son said that they have to know what the problem is cause we can't have the only elantra that had this problem and since there was virtually no use of the windows it had to be a faulty design or motor. The service man swore up and down they were not aware of any recurring problem with the back windows. They called me and said it would cost $375 per window to replace the window regulators. That is a total of $750 for both windows. I feel i have been deceived and lied to after finding this website with the number of window problems reported and no one in my family will ever recommend or buy another hyundai product from a dealership.

Driver's side front window regulator stopped working, and driver was unable to get the window up.

Two power windows have failed. The first time, the driver's window fell while driving, startling the driver, almost causing a rear-end collision. The second time, the rear window had fallen while the vehicle was unoccupied, which could have caused the theft of the vehicle and/or its components. Both parts were fixed at owner's cost of $140 each, plus labor.*

I am the only one who drives my car.i don't have a family.my car is only 4 1/2 yrs old and the passenger window motor broke.within two weeks the driver side window broke.i hardly use them.i'm an air conditioner girl.this is ridiculous!i had to rip apart the door and push up the window.they are wedged shut with cardboard.i'm praying no one notices and breaks in and steals my car.

Our drivers side window would not go up or down a few months ago, the dealer replaced the window motor.now, our passenger side window is doing the same thing...it will not raise or lower.we will have to take more time off from work to get this fixed.this is at least our seventh warranty repair since we purchased the car.

Power window regulator went out on passenger side, driver side, and rear passenger side within three months of each other. Dealer replaced rear driver side with the last window regulator replacement.

During the past 18 months, all four windows in my 2000 hyundai elantra has had the window regulator go bad and required replacement.these windows were engineered to fail.the total cost to replace them was near $1500.because of the failure, the rear window rolled down during a rainstorm here in florida.my reaction nearly caused an accident.

I was at a carwash when i attempted to roll up the front power window on my drivers side when the window did not respond. Now my back window does not roll up. My vehicle also stalls and is not able tbe diagnosed.

No events lead to failure, it is just happening while parked, driving down the road.it has failed in all 4 window of the car.the first window was under warranty and the window regulator was placed. The remaining 3 windows are still broken until $1000.00 is available for repair.

I bought this car new for my daughter and she first had trouble with the window regulators within the first year of owning the car.the regulators have been replaced in all 4 windows and needs replaced in three windows now (all happened within days of each other).windows will not roll up or down nor will they stay up.

While backing into the driveway, the vehicle accelerated backward into the garage.*scalso the left front window was inoperative, the dealer adjusted the window track.

Two back windows and one front window failed to operate over a six month period (electric windows).the windows would fall down and would not stay up.the motor and regulator had to be replaced in the back windows and the regulator in the front window at a cost over $1100.00.the car is only six years old.

The regulator device broke in three of my automatic windows since i've owned the car. During the time the windows were broken the glass was stuck in the open position, providing a red flag for anyone wishing to steal my car or its contents. Currently my 3rd window is broken and the dealership won't look at it for a few days so i have to hope no one finds out it is broken in the mean time.

Windows regulators failing - so far this has happened three times on this car, twice on the front drivers side - once under warranty and once at my expense.the rear window comes down at will and we are going to have to glue it up.

Car continues to overheat.this is the fourth time it has happened; sometime the problem can not be duplicated and i am sent on my way even though it has happen before.the cylinder heads, water pump, thermostat, sensor and many others are only a few of the things that have been replaced on this problem.the car shuts-off without warning, and drives like a desiel engine (rough), you almost have to floor it to make the car stop and the dealer says it is normal; even though i hit another car going about 5mph because the car jerked foward and smashed my hood (i hit a ford:excrussion so he had no damage) and the transmission does not shift correctly. Sure the dealer ship tries to fix the problem but there have been times i have been out of my car for a long as 7 to 8 weeks and many times there don't even know whats wrong.i have tried to contact rick case the dearlership owner and i never reiceve a call or email.

Windshield wipers stopped working with no warning. Dealership replaced the windshield wiper motor four times.
