Air bag light came on when car was started. Dealer doesn't know why after running a diagnostic test. Dealer wants to start by replacing air bag parts until light goes off (starting with the $600 chip). Dealer claims recall was performed on this car in july 1995.in 1996, this vehicle was in a "fender bender" but air bag light did not come on and air bag did not deploy. This vehicle was never in a major accident and there should be no reason why the air bag system should just fail out of the blue.

In the case ofair bag, i was hit by a f350 pickup at 40 miles ph and the bag did not deploy, but the light came and it will not go off. Called hyundai dealer and they said my vin number is not applicable for the recall. In the case of the gas problem, the smell of gas permiates through out the car with no logical explanation. In the case of the wiring failure, it was the wiring harness which caught on fire and was to be replaced at my cost , which was done by rick case mazda in 1999.

Since november of 1997 i have had on going problems with this vehicle.there has been one default after another.in november of 1997 the engine caught fire.the transmission was replaced in july of 1999, since repacement of transmission the waterpump, and timing were replaced, and the radiator was repaired.now this new problem has arose with the engine.one other thing not mentioned before is the car stops or shuts off with no gage indication at all.
Alternator is exceeding its limit,is overcharging, which causes blow out of other electrical compontents.

The consumer was traveling about 60mph on the highway, andwith no prior warning saw flames shooting up though the hood area.consumer pulled over immediately, and notified the police. Vehicle was towed to the dealership.

Had to replace wire harnist, battery, postive cable, fuse wire ontop of postive cable,want to know if there is a problem with this .they told me the fuse ontop of positive cable heated up and started the fire

Purchase vehicle in may of 1997 had 49000 miles on car timing belt broke at 74000 miles belt had already been replace because it had a gates belt on the car when i had it replaced broke again in november of 1999 with 94761 miles only a little over 20000 miles on belt hyundai book says replace timing belt every 60000 miles but timing belt is breaking every 20000 miles.

Cluster lights to sunroof shorted, causing plastic fixture to melt.
The rear doors do not want to open and/or unlock at times. They stick . To get open (if you can) you must push in and lift up. Very unsafe would not beable to openfrom inside either. Car has never been in an accident.

The driver side door knob will not let you open the door from the outside or inside. You have to lift the driver side door to get the door open.
Inside door handle onrear right side broke off, and door cannot be opened.drivers side cracked where the outer edge is.the door has to be opened from the outside. Other two handles have a crack that gets bigger when door is opened, dealer contacted, and cannot duplicate the problem.both the driver side door and the rear left door have flown open while driving. *ml

Vehicle frame bent approximately one inch, causing vehicle to veer to the left.
Right rear trailing arm bolt had been broken for quite some time.bolt is rusted and pitted, 3 mechanics, a welder, and a tool maker all concur that it must have been broken for well over a year.the bolt is the one that connects the trailing arm to the frame.it had been broken for long enough to pull through the frame tearing it.bolt had been working free for that time.had it not been for a noise previous to the bolt coming free and the slow speed the whole rear end would have probably come apart resulting in (at interstate speed) injury and most probably a fatality.
