2011 hyundai elantra touring.attorney representing consumer writes in regards to front and side airbags did not deploy during accident.prior to the accident, the air bag light illuminated. The dealer informed the consumer, it was an electrical problem, and claimed the problem was resolved. The lawyer first became aware of a recall, after reading an article in the newspaper. However, the consumer never received a recall notice.

I was hit by an unlicensed, illegal driver driving far past the speed limit in a no-crossing zone. Luckily, there was no major harm, but my side airbag did not deploy, and my head slammedagainst the driver side window.no one contacted me.

There is an issue with the airbag light in the main dash console staying on. Was concerned airbags would not deploy in accident. Had vehicle serviced at dealership. Dealership informed me that the clock spring in the steering wheel is too tight/defective and there is a 50/50 chance airbags will deploy in an accident. My vehicle just went out of bumper to bumper warranty. If there is any question that the airbags will not deploy due to this manufacturing issue then i believe it should be covered under a recall.

Driver of our car, the hyundai elantra touring, slowed to about 20-25 mph to let a car in front of us turn into a driveway. Driver of a honda crv traveling behind us at about 45-50 mph did not slow and slammed into the back of us. Front seat passenger hit her head on the dashboard resulting in a bruise and black eye and whiplash because seat belt did not restrain her, and airbags did not deploy. Driver's seat slid backwards, loosening his seatbelt. Hehit his hip and knee on the door and experienced whiplash. Police on scene looked at seatbelts on both sides and determined there were no "stop marks" indicating the seatbelts had engaged.

Shortly after delivery on november 30, 2010 car began experiencing uninitiated and erratic door locking problems.repair attempts on march 22, august 1, and november 25, 2011 all failed. Failures occurred in a variety of physical locations as well as both within a short time of exiting the car or when the car was left unlocked overnight. Failures were not related to the physical location of the remote key fob. With driver-door window open physical abnormalities were visible prior to attempting to open the door.dealer observed physical defect and replaced latch and actuator assembly on november 25, 2011. With window open, two attempts to unlock the door using door-mounted electrical control system failed to open the locked door.one attempt activated the cars alarm system.key fob was in house.if the locking system malfunctioned in a similar manner during an accident, the driver would be trapped inside the car and, access by emergency service personnel would be impeded.there was no response to december 22, 2011, january 11, and february 4, 2012 requests to the dealership for appointment with the factory representative for technical assistance. On january 17, 2012 dealer made physical changes to the alarm system. Fifth repair attempt on february 23, 2012 (5,600 miles) included the history of the unresolved malfunctioning. Dealership did not provide required repair-orders for the 4th or 5th attempts. Hyundai motor america contends the dealer was never able to duplicate the problem, despite november 25, 2011 warranty repair-order for mechanical abnormality associated with the self-locking defect confirmed by dealership personnel.there is no record of any specific technical assistance by hyundai motor america.on march 2, 2012 car was disassembled making it impossible to duplicate the problem and dealer unilaterally ceased warranty service.

I started the car and could not turn the steering wheel without applying heavy force. Looking at the dash board the esc and eps lights were both on. I turned of the car and restarted and the problem was gone. A few days ago i saw the recall of the 2009 and 2010 cars regarding this very problem. I called hyundai customer support to report my issue but was told my 2011 car was not on the recall list. Upon further research i have found this very issue appearing in elantra cars as resent as 2014. I ask the safety board to reexamine the issue in regards to later year of the elantra cars.

Initial issue was automatic speed control (cruise cntrl), will not stay engaged.cruise no longer works in any way other than to turn it on.this issue began around jan 2017.next issue is esc off light intermittently comes on and will not reset without restart.latest issue is the 3rd brake light is the only brake light working. The brake lights and esc issue began around march 2018.

While driving on a two lane road around 45 mph the front driver's side wheel suddenly and repeatedly locked up causing the tire to skid and the steering to pull to the left. At the same time the car slowed very quickly to 5 mph and almost caused the driver behind me to slam into the back of my car. I was not applying the brake pedal during this incident. This is a very dangerous issue and needs to be investigated immediately. Similar occurrences have happened about once per month in the past year. I have brought the car to hyundai service and explained the problem but they cannot duplicate the problem and "find nothing wrong". I have noticed that when the problem is happening if i turn off the esc the problem will go away and i can resume normal driving speed once again.

The contact owns a 2011 hyundai elantra touring. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. On several occasions, while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light, the rpms revved while the brake pedal was being depressed. The vehicle was taken to herb chambers hyundai of auburn (located at 735 southbridge st, auburn, ma 01501, (508) 832-9990) to be diagnosed. The dealer cleaned the throttle body, but the failure recurred. Additionally, the throttle body was replaced by an independent mechanic, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Oil leaked from the crankcase seal while driving.a mechanic replaced the seal, which failed almost immediately.there are metal fragments in the fresh oil.

My daughter bought the car used from carmax with 88,000 miles and 2 weeks later had a knocking and clicking sound from the engine. She took it back to carmax and they repaired it noting that the problem was with the cam shaft. 2 years later and 110,000 miles, the same noise occurred with regular oil changes. When we had the car engine diagnosed, this time she needed a new engine.

Driving down road. Something fell off the bottom of the vehicle. Arrived at destination and smelled strong odor of gas.looked under vehicle and saw gas running out onto ground.took car to mechanic. Was told gas system had corroded through allowing gas to leak onto ground.had car towed to dealer for warranted repairs. Dealer service personnel not forthcoming with cause of leak, will not provide affected parts for inspection. I considered this an extreme fire hazard as a pool of gas collected under and around the vehicle.

After getting on the on-ramp on the highway i shifted my manual transmission from 4th to 5th gear to accelerate to 50 mph but the gear didn't shift to 5th and the engine was inadvertently revved up to 4 on the tachometer without any increase in speed; it felt as if i stepped down on the gas pedal while in neutral. I drove the next 25 miles home in 4th gear at 45 to 50 mph.

I bought this car in 2010 and since then my car started giving trouble they change my transmission 3 times in 100000 mile and after that i started having trouble speed peddle. When stop at light i have to push my brake very hard because my rpm of car is 5000 then i have to put car in neutral at that time rpm goes more than 5000. Then i went to dealer 1 rickcase hyundai roswell georgia.they cannot fix same problem again. So i went to other 2 dealer autonation hyundai mall off georgia. During routine oil change at dealer, mechanic said the rear brakes were rusted so bad that they had to be replaced. Given the fact that the car was bought new and only driven 1300 miles in two years it was assumed that the repairwas covered under warranty; but no, brakes aren't covered. Car was taken to another shop, they confirmed the rear brake parts were badly rusted and were causing the brakes to drag. It seems that the rear rotors are made of an inferior material that is prone to rusting in snow belt states were lots of salt is used in thewinter.

I was driving on a back road to my next destination when suddenly my steering wheel became stiff. The eps and esc lights were on in the dashboard.i was able to pull the car over. Turned it off and back on.seemed ok. Power steering returned. Eps and esc lights off. Went up a few feet to stoplight.lost power again. Did not feel safe.stopped the car.called for tow truck.towed to nearest hyundai dealer.they did diagnostic tests.one tech said it was steering column assembly.they said to follow up with regular dealer next week if it happened again.on 4/7/15 car brought into dealer again for same problem.they did an eps update.on april 15, 2015 my husband was driving us.he almost lost control of the car on the highway because he lost power steering.he pulled over restarted car twice.then steering came back.eps and esc lights went off.called hyundai dealer today.he said to bring it in.i had it towed in.

Our hyundai elantra had suspension problems and had to have the wheel bearings and drive shaft replaced, but no one ever told us there was a recall on the front coil springs. A week ago, one of the front coil springs snapped and gave us a blowout while we were driving. Luckily for us, we were on a side road and not the freeway. We brought it to a les schwab for repair because it was closer. It will take 3 weeks for the parts to come in, so i looked it up. Turns out there was a recall notice we never got. I didn't take a photo before we turned it in, but am attaching a service estimate from les schwab.

Vehicle caught fire while parked in garage. Vehicle was not running and had not been driven for over 5 hours. Fire originated in the drivers side of the engine compartment.

When accelerating, the engine does not always de-accelerate when the gas pedal is released. This is sporadic and unpredictable. Our mechanic thinks it is a fault in the throttle body. It is dangerous because after accelerating the car will continue to accelerate for up to 10 seconds after my foot is off the gas pedal. Or between shifts (manual transmission) the rpm will go dangerously high because the clutch is pushed in and briefly no load on the engine. The car does not need to be moving for this to happen. It is a throttle control issue, as determined by our mechanic. It has happened numerous times over the last year.

While driving or stationary and pressing the gas pedal sometimes the car will suddenly and unpredictably increase in acceleration or rpms, respectively, way more than intended even after releasing the gas pedal. A couple points to note: 1) the car is a manual transmission and during the described episode if you press the clutch and put the car into neutral the rpms will suddenly jump to between 6000-8000 rpms where they will stay sometimes for a 1 minute before returning to normal; 2) during this unpredictable increase in acceleration or rpms (if while in neutral), the gas pedal feels stuck as though it does not return to its normal state; 3) while in gear and driving, taking foot off gas pedal does not realize a decrease in acceleration or rpms, rather the car continues to increase at a fast speed as though the car was being pulled; 4) turning the car off alone sometimes does not resolve the issue as upon next start of the engine the rpms will immediately jump to 6000-8000; 5) this issue occurs with and without the floormats; 6) the issue occurs most frequently at start up and often resolves itself after a couple dangerous and scary minutes of monitoring the acceleration and rpms in response your toggling of the gas pedal; 7) the issue was noticed initially at roughly 90,000 miles on the odometer and occurs about 3-5 times a month; 8) i live in san francisco, california

Was parked in a parking lot of a drug store for maybe 10 minutes.started the car and backed out of parking space.when i put the car in drive to go forwardthe car accelerated to a very high speed and ran into two parked cars.with help i tried to back out of the space but when i went forward the car once again accelerated to a high speed damaging my car and the two other cars.several years back ipulled into a parking lot to mail a letter.when i put the car in reverse to back out of the parking lot, the car accelerated at a high speed and backed into a snow bank.i thought at the time that i had accidentallystepped on the accelerator instead of the break but read the exact same experience from a hyundai owner.

I was driving down the highway at approximately 5 pm on a partly cloudy day that was not particularly hot (~94f) for this part of the country.i had been on the road for about 4 hours when i suddenly heard a loud "boom" similar to a shotgun blast come from the roof of my car.i made my way off the interstate onto the feeder road as quickly as i could.upon getting out of the car i found that my sunroof had seemingly exploded.about 75% of the glass was gone.some glass fragments were laying on the sun visor (as i had the sun visor closed at the time), but most of the glass was presumably along the interstate somewhere.the glass broke into thousands of tiny glass fragments.the glass that remained was completely cracked due to the nature of the tempered glass.the pieces of glass along fracture boundary were sticking up in such a way that the glass must have broken in an outward direction.there was no damage to the sun visor.both of these pieces of evidence along with the fact that i did not see anything just prior to the incident show that the sunroof could not have been shattered by an impact from debris.the debris would have had to have been substantially massive to cause such damage to the glass.it would have certainly damaged the sun visor as well.in addition, the glass could not have flown outward after an inward impact from debris.this incident was caused by either faulty materials used for glass or improper design that did not account for all loads that could be applied to the glass.this incident could have easily caused an accident by startling me as the driver on the interstate.also, the residual glass could have easily caused an injury to the driver or passengers in the car if the sun visor had not been closed.this is a very dangerous issue.

Please read through the following forum: http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t35968_ds499866hyundai equips the se model of this car with 17" alloy rims and low-profile tires.this combination has caused a lot of problems, and i believe it is the tip of the iceberg.i had problems with leaking tires from this rim/tire combo and have had to repair a rim so it would no longer leak.now, it is costing me about 1500 dollars to switch to 15" steel wheels to fix what appears to be a design flaw.tires are not a joke.when they fail it can cause serious injuries.i believe that investigation would reveal far more people have this problem than has been reported.

Cracked/fractured 17" rim in the 2011 hyundai elantra limitedmy tire pressure light illuminated and, after checking all of the tires' pressure, filled the driver's rear tire with roughly 7lbs of air. I proceeded straight to a tire facility & was shown that the driver's side, rear tire was perfectly fine but the 17" rim was actually cracked and causing the tire to leak air at the point of the crack. The mechanics were in awe and expressed how rare it was for a rim to crack or fracture as it had. I was advised that the rim is extremely dangerous to drive on.a couple of months prior, i had to replace the driver's side, front tire due to a sudden bulge in the sidewall.i have since learned that i am not alone. There have been elantra owners who have been involved in very serious accidents due to rim/tire related issues. There are mentions of too low of profile rims/tires on this body style car. Of course, i would prefer this not happen to anyone, let alone myself or someone in my car, and have chosen to voice my safety concern.i have contacted hyundai and am actively awaiting a response.
