The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra touring. While driving approximately 50 mph, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another vehicle and a utility pole. The air bags did not deploy. There were no warning indicators illuminated. A police report was filed. The driver and the front passenger sustained injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

The hyundai was at an intersection and pulled out in front of another car.the accident was bad and the car was totaled but the air bags never deployed and the driver sustained serious injuries. The state trooper involved stated he thought it was strange the air bags did not deploy as well.

I was traveling south on i85 south approaching the exit 17 where i had planned to exit, as i began to apply the brake the engine was racing, and the vehicle continued to accelerate, i could not stop the vehicle, i turned right onto the exit, the vehicle did not slow down, i could not make the complete turn, i fractured my left thumb, and broke the steering wheel while trying to avoid crashing into some trees that were in the path of the vehicle, i continued to try to stop the vehicle but it kept going; i ended up crashing into an embankment just a couple of feet off of the ramp road on i85 north. Upon the impact of the vehicle crashing into the embankment the airbag exploded like a balloon and then deflated, it did not protect my body from the impact, i experienced back fractures, hemoperitoneum, and bowl perforation from the seat belt, i fractured my left thumb while steering the vehicle, i was hospitalized for 9 days, and received surgery on my bowel. The body shop while writing an estimate started the vehicle and discovered that the accelerator is still stuck (electronic throttle control). I did contact hyundai and sent them authorization to inspect the vehicle, however after reading about the electronic throttle control, and the problems of other drivers have experienced with the component, i decided to contact your office. I don't want hyundai to tamper with the vehicle and alter or destroy the condition of the vehicle and change the status of the accelerator in its present state. Is it possible for you to inspect the vehicle? i am concerned that other drivers of these vehicles may encounter the same problems, i was blessed because it could have been fatal, and had the on coming vehicles arrived seconds earlier there could have been multi a car crash. Please contact me.[xxx], [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Just want to indicate that my air bag light came on indicating it was broken. When asked about warranty the dealer said that was not under warranty.now i hear there had been a recall on the hyundai elantra sedan for air bag issues and the nhtsa is considering including the touring model in the recall.i just wanted to add my vehicle to the list of affected cars with an air bag issue!

In october 2010 my 6-month old hyundai elantra touring caught fire after sitting in my driveway for nine hours. The vehicle was completely totaled. My insurance company (geico) secured the car and hired a forensic engineering company (down forensic engineering, inc., cary nc) to investigate the origin of the fire. Down concluded that the fire was electrical and originated in the engine compartment. Hyundai motor america conducted its own inspection, which did not conclusively determine the cause or origin of the fire. Hyundai motor america did, however, offer to reimburse my insurance policy deductibles and to pay me $500 for goodwill, but has refused to replace the vehicle or reimburse me for any other expenses related to the fire. As far as i know, hyundai motor america has not issued a recall or tsb on the car. I have refused to accept hyundai motor americas offer.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra touring. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked for a few hours when it engulfed into flames. The fire department appeared on the scene to extinguish the fire. A police report was also filed but no injuries were reported. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an insurance lot. The insurance company concluded the fire was due to an electrical failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 12,000. The vin was unavailable.

On three different occasions, the vehicle's engine has stopped running while i was driving. In each case the vehicle was coasting at a slow speed, i was not applying my foot to the gas pedal at the time. The electrical power did not die, nor was there jerking or noise to indicate the engine had stopped. The only sign that the engine had stalled was the "malfunction indicator lamp" came on, and no acceleration power. I still had lights, radio, fan, etc. Luckily there were no other vehicles in back of me at the time. In order to restart the car, i had to shift from drive to neutral, turn the ignition key to re-start, then shift back into drive. For each incident, the car restarted right away.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra touring. The contact stated the ignition failed and he was unable to turn the key. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the identical failure. The dealer replaced the ignition cylinder and the key. The failure was not corrected. The key would not turn in the ignition. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer filed report 4439479 and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The failure mileage was 11,000 and the current mileage was 11,800.

Engine turned off while i was at a stop light.i notice something was wrong when the car suddenly went silent without even the typical engine vibrations.the check engine as well as other notifications were illuminated on the dashboard.i cannot say exactly which ones because i was too focused on getting my car out of traffic.i turned the ignition key off and on again and that seemed to fix the problem (or at least the car started again and no warning lights were illuminated.)this is an incredibly scary problem and i am thankful it happened while i was at a stop and was able to quickly get out of traffic.i plan to take the car back to the hyundai service center as it was just there (3 days ago) for a 30k maintenance, recall fix, and headlight bulb replacement.

This is a second issue same problem. The first time was december 29,2014 went out started the car no power steering had just drove the car the day before over hundred miles seemed fine well the next morning the problem arose wife went to go to work no power steering she took my vehicle i missed work to take into the dealership. That afternoon they reset the computer and the car drove fine. Fast forward to march 22,2015 a sunday morning got into the car started it up an no power steering shut it off restarted it ran fine. Called the dealership up the next morning got an appointment to have it checked over. Again the same issue thankfully we were not driving the car when these issues have happened. We have seen the article in the paper on the recall but at this date hyundai has not notified owners of the recall so i guess we wait and hope we do not crash the car in the mean time. Iam also the second owner of this car and wonder if this was not an issue in the past.

The esc light comes on intermittently and stays on for longer periods of time.the dealer has replaced the steering rack, reprogrammed the system and the light continues to come on.

Traveling in a 40 mph zone approaching a red light.began decelerating and applying brake.eps (electronic power steering) light and esc lights activated on dashboard; complete loss of power steering occurred.shutoff vehicle & checked all fuses - all appeared normal; nopower steering or esc functioning.vehicle serviced by dealer who diagnosed a short in the electrical harness in the steering column.repair required complete replacement of steering column and wiring harness (parts cost was over $1,100.00).dealer stated this is becoming a common repair for the elantra line of vehicles, but this was the first they saw in a touring model. Due to commonality of parts in comparison to the percentage of touring models produced it appears there may be a problem with the design of the steering column and wiring harness for all elantra models.

My vehicle previously failed a state safety inspection for failed brake lights just several months after purchase (october 2010). Just prior to this failed inspection, i'd noticed that the "esc off" light on the dash would turn on unexpectedly. My local hyundai dealership repaired the brake light switch, which also remedied the "esc off" light issue. Just over a month ago, the "esc off" light on the dash again began to turn on without reason. A few days ago, while merging onto an interstate near my home, a vehicle behind mine barely avoided an accident with me when i had to suddenly slow to make a merge. The driver kindly alerted me that he did not notice any brake lights when i suddenly stopped. So, it seems as if i am again going to have to have the brake light switch, which has already been a known problem in a number of hyundai vehicles, repaired.

Made a left turn and began accelerating to 30 mph when complete loss of power steering occurred and eps (electronic power steering) light and esc lights activated on dashboard. Shut off vehicle & checked all hoses, belts, fuses - all appeared normal. Read online that this was a common problem around 56000 miles for hyundai elantras. Turned car back on and power steering works now but i am terrified of losing control of my vehicle again in a busier street.i am thinking of taking it to the dealer to see if it is warrantied as obviously this is a manufacturing defect!!!

At speeds over 50 mph the esc (electronic stability control) light comes on. I have been waiting for a recall but nothing comes up. I have read about other people having this issue! why hasn't hyundai addressed this along with the tps (tire pressure system) issues?i am on my 4th hyundai and i am not impressed!

Driving elantra touring 2010 ( with less than 28500 miles) in a local street, and all of sudden the vehicle stopped immediately before the turn signal and unable to operate the steering. There were several lights, including the "esc" was on. It is really scarywhen vehicle stopped responding whiledriving on the street. I am not sure any recall available to remediate this dangerous problem.

While driving the car became difficult to steer almost resulting in my going off the road, when i go to a place that was safe to stop, i noticed that the eps light was illuminated red, and the esc off light was illuminated yellow. I shut off the car and it the lights went off and remained off during my communte home.when i drove the care yesterday the lights came on at start up and stayed on my commute home.this vehicle is extremely difficult to steer to steer when the lights are illuminated, and unsafe when the power steering cuts off unexpectedly while driving.there are many reports of this problem on the internet, and a recall number #127 has been assigned, but no official recall to date for my vin #.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra touring.while driving 25 mph, the esc and eps indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the dealer stated that the stop lamp switch needed to be replaced.the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred.the manufacturer was notified.the vin was unavailable.the failure mileage was 44,000.

Failed 2 inspections, still under lemon law rights, given false vin # at 1st, car died on me 9/18, got jumped by tow co, crack in windshield (prestige auto told me to get it fixed myself)- car hesitates while driving- given two diff dates of sale (two diff slips - car purchased 9/24 - service told me 9/15- i put downpayment $200 on9/15 only-pd in full & took car 9/14 - signed for car 9/24/16 drove off lot. I want my all of my money back - i do not want this vehicle - i do not trust that it will work even 2 wks from now- i need reliable vehicle! i paid $8092.69 all of $$ that i had left from my deceased father. I am supposed to begin training on new job tomorrow- don't even know if i will make it. Please help. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra touring. The contact stated that power steering failed to operated as designed while his son was driving the vehicle at an unknown speed. The contact had the vehicle towed to alexandria hyundai (1707 mt vernon ave, alexandria, va 22301) where he was informed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The contact disagreed with the diagnostic and he informed the dealer that the failure was related to a defective fuse. The contact had the vehicle towed back to his residence where he performed a diagnostic test and had determined that the failure was indeed related to a defective fuse. The contact then had the vehicle towed back to the same dealer after discovering that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering) and had the recall repair performed. Upon return of the vehicle, the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the eps warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle started jerking to the right. The contact drove the vehicle to his residence and later discovered that the brakes and rotors were defective. The contact had the brakes and rotors replaced however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.

The elantra touring pulls to the right. After 6 trips to service and adjustments authorized by hyundai the car still pulls to the right. It is very tiring continuously correcting the steering.

In my steering wheel it makes a clunking noise. I brought it into a service station and they told me it needed a flexible coupling gromt. I didn't do this it is all the way down in the steering column. They told me it should be a recall because it is nothing i did. It does the noise when i am sitting still. If you turn the wheel it sounds like it is catching on something.

Power steer assist failed pulling out of driveway, eps light was on, steering difficult

Hyundai elantra touring pulls to the right while accelerating and traveling at 50 mph. It hurts your wrist to keep it straight on the road.alignment and tire rotation doesn't solve the problem.

I have a 2010 hyundai elantra touring with 16,605 miles. It has had steering problems that have been fixed by the dealership at no cost to me twice before. However now it needs another steering repair and the parts alone cost me $1,446.89 and labor will be an additional $300. The part is coming from korea and may take one to two months to get to the dealership. In the mean time i have no car to do my errands.i am asking for reimbursement and restitution for myself and a guarantee that this steering problem will not reoccur .

The eps light came on when i was on the highway and the steering wheel got hard, it was not turning, risking to have a fatal accident

Material used in the gls variant's steering wheel has degraded to the point that the rubber pieces are crumbling in the hands of the driver. The steering wheel material has cracked and disintegrated. Dealer told me this is normal wear and tear. I have had several cars with excess of 14 years of use that this has not happened to.

Recall 127.epssystem not work properly.but they want to charge for find it.($131.00)i called hyundai company .they dont give me positive answerdealership only update software.which is not solve problem.they told they are not replace any parts to fix the problem.hyundai doest give me any positive answer.

My daughter was returning home from work.the eps (electronic power steering) light and the esc light came on.indicating there was an issue with the steering.she pulled the car off the road in a panic and called me.i told her to get the car to an auto zone or advanced auto and have them check the fluid and that in the interim the steering may get very hard and to be careful.she got it to advance auto and was informed there is no fluid because it is electronic and she needed to get it to the dealer.i took the vehicle to the dealer (gettel hyundai in sarasota) and was told the coupler was out but that the car was still safe to drive and the lights would just stay on or i could pay $1500 to have a new steering column installed.the steering wheel was making a clunking noise as i was driving it there and i was hold the steering wheel so tight my forearms were sore by the time i got it there.i am still under the 5 year warranty (but not the mileage).i immediately check for recalls on nhtsa and discover there is a recall for this very thing.by this time the dealer was closed.contacted them first thing in the morning (today) and was told there was no recall and that the car was safe to drive with the defective steering!this is not some sort of cosmetic problem!!how can a car be safe to drive with defective steering?why are they not honoring the recall?we live in the country and we traverse windy roads...if the steering does actually go out it could potentially cause an accident and possibly a fatality!in the mean time my car sits at the dealership and we have no transportation to get back and forth to work or for any emergency that should occur!!!

Power steering stopped working. I had sqeaking noises when turning the wheel.also shimmeringover slightestbumps.dealer estimate for new steering columnswas about$2000.00 . I was pulling out of a parking space when it froze. After i tuned of the car it worked. However i have read many complaints that this problem continues under normal driving conditionsincluding highways. I feel the manufacturer should be responsible for this problem.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra touring. The contact stated that the vehicle would pull to the right while driving at any speed. The steering service warning light also began illuminating on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,800 and the current mileage was 2,200. The vin was unavailable.

As i was pulling out of my driveway the steering wheel jerked to the side and both the eps and esc off lights became illuminated.i drove a little further and the steering wheel became very hard to move.i took the car to the local garage and had it towed to the hyundai dealership for diagnosis and service.luckily i was just driving in my local neighborhood, if this would have happened on the highway i may have been in a serious accident.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra touring. While turning the vehicle, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Steering:electric power assist..nhtsa campaign #15v100000 is only for car built before 4/30/10 and doesn't include the ones built after where i'm sure they didn't stop making them differently or putting different parts in them. I'm having the same problem as the ones built before may 1st and many others are as well and this recall should include all 2010 cars and not just ones built before may 1st.i have the electronic power steering and the electronic control units lights on showing its exactly the same problem as the rest of the 2010 model so its absolutely unbelievable that not all of the models built in 2010 are included. My lights stay on constantlyat any speed what so ever and like the recall states if power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. If i die in a crash because of this problem like any of the recalls they are wiling to perform they will be paying millions more than the $600 recall they should be doing to begin with.

No recall letter received from hyundai regarding power steering system problem (15v1000000) despite apparent seriousness of the problem. Systemic problem or limited to me alone?updated 05/17/18i have confirmed that my vin is covered by the recall....updated 12/03/15updated 4/24/18

First time the incident occurred, driving in traffic at about 20mph, slowing down at a traffic light, power steering went out and the esc light came on.i had to stop the car and restart it in the middle of traffic to regain power steering.the car was taken to the dealership the following day.i was told the power steering needed an "update".after the update the same thing happened a few days later while accelerating onto the highway.the car was brought back to the dealer and we were told the steering wheel needed calibration, so the steering wheel was re calibrated and we were told that the issue was resolved and so the malfunction would not reoccur.however, the malfunction happened a 3rd time, on 3/25, while driving at approximately 20mph in traffic, power steering shut off and the esc light came on.we will take the car back to the dealer tomorrow.this issue is unsafe as when the power steering goes out, we have no control of the vehicle.the malfunction occurs without warning and poses a serious safety risk if it occurs at a high speed.

Failure of electric power steering assist. The loss of power steering assist occur unexpectedly when i was driving.i noticed a heavy steering wheel feel. The electronic power steering (eps) electronic control unit (ecu) sense a discrepancy in the steering input signals and disable the steering power assist. The light turned on. The power steering assist is lost, greater effortbe required for me, while i drive, to steer the vehicle increasing the risk of a crash.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra touring. The contact stated that while exiting the driveway, the steering wheel seized and the eps and esc warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra touring. While driving approximately 55 mph, the eps indicator illuminated. The contact searched the vin and found nhtsa campaign number: 15v100000 (steering). The vehicle was taken to fitzgeralds lakeforest hyundai (301-670-4800, located at 905 north frederick ave, gaithersburg, md 20879) where the eps software was updated, but the failure recurred the following day. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle would not be repaired for free. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 104,000.

Steering column started making a clicking noise when turning the wheel when parked or driving at less than 15 miles per hour indicating play in the steering.

The contact owns a 2010 hyundai elantra touring. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph as the vehicle began pulling to the right without assistance. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times for the failure. The vehicle was diagnosed and an additional investigation provided by the manufacturer determined that the the vehicle was operating as normal. A four wheel alignment was performed on the vehicle yet, the failure recurred as a result of premature tire tread wear on the front driver's side tire. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 3,305.

Car pulls to the right when driving.have to keep left pressure on steering wheel to go straight. Car now has 15,000 miles...still same problemdealer has not been able to do anything.... Multiple alignments...said tires were bad-had to see tire manuf.- did that and they said could not find any problem with tires. Dealer said the steering is made that way because of the way the roadis curved. You have to get use to it.did an internet search and found others complaining about the same problem with the tourning.

Loss of power steering, has happened on two other occasions. Unable to duplicate problem at dealer. Ref. Tsb-15-01-019-1

Door handle coating cracked and i constantly am cutting my hand on it. The vehicle is only a 2010 and to have those defects is ridiculous!!

The chrome covered interior passenger door handle cracked and the jagged metal edge cut my passenger's hand.my passenger pulled the handle to open the door from the inside, the handle cracked, and the metal cut his hand.i believe that this problem is similar (perhaps identical) to that identified in the 2002-3 sonata which prompted a recall, but i could not find a recall notice for my car.

2010 hyundai elantra touring.consumer writes in regards to loud clunking sound coming from the rear area of the vehicle.the dealer stated, despite several attempts to examine the vehicle on the lift and several test drives, the mechanics were unable to pinpoint or correct the problem.

Stem on tpms sensor broke when putting air into car.this has happened twice on separate tires, costing ~$200 to repair.

Stemon tpms sensor broke tire went flatimmediately . The stem is made out ofaluminum, road salt will eat into it and cause it to break . When i had it replaced i was to told this was a common problem with that type of stem.

I was driving down the highway when there was a loud boom and the sunroof shattered and fell on my daughter and me. The glass remaining in the frame was still crackling and was pushed upward. There was nothing around at tume to have hit us and it appeared to have blown out vs in.

The cruise control will not stay on. I'm not sure why but it doesn't work. This can seems to have as many electrical issues as some of the worst cars i have seen! esc and other issues are enough that i don't want another hyundai.

While my car was sitting in the driveway the back glass shattered. I live in a rural area and no one was around. I had just went out and opened the back doors and walked around the back of the car and gone back into the house for a minute and when i came back it was shattered.

The drivers side sun visor no longer stays up and is a visibility hazard. Looking on line this is a common issue and some models are already listed for the recall however not the 2010 elantra touring. This happens at any time while the vehicle is stationary in motion etc.

While driving down the highway heard a loud bang, and was covered in shattered glass as the sunroof exploded for no reason.

The tires wear out on this vehicle, even after being properly aligned! i have him through 4 complete sets of tires and have 110,000 miles on the car. I have kept the air pressure as it should be and have rotated the tires every 3000 miles. All 4 sets of tires wore out the exact same way, which was inner edge tread wear. The alignments were done by hyundai twice and two separate businesses after that. All said the alignment was within factory specifications. I was also told that there are no adjustments for caster and camber on this vehicle. The problem can apparently be remedied with an aftermarket caster camber kit which is approximately $200. I contacted hyundai, after researching the internet and learning that numerous people are having this issue with other hyundai models including the elantra. Hyundai advised me that they have received other complaints regarding this same issue, but not enough for a recall. I am averaging approximately 27,000 miles per set of tires!!! my hyundai case #10494797.

Tire air valve broke and tire went flat instantly.car was in driveway and i was checking tire pressure.
