Srs warning light on dash came on 6 months ago. I got prices of $400-2000 to repair. Dealer was $120 just to do diagnostic. I've googled problem and this is common for elantra. This is a safety issue. Why is there a recall?

Still waiting for a safety recall on passenger front airbag.will not deploy in an accident due to a sensor failure inside passenger seat that detects weight of occupant.oem replacement w/o labor is $1800.

Two weeks after purchasing this vehicle the air bag warning light came on. I made an appt with fuccillo hyundai of schenectady ny, the location where i purchased the vehicle, for one week later. Light went off after 3 days and i contacted fucillo and they told me to make another appt if the light came on a again. It did multiple times over the next several months, i made appts, the light went off after a few days, and fucillo hyundai kept telling me to make another appt if the light came on again. The air bag light did this for months and in early 2010 while in cocoa florida the light illuminated and i visited cocoa hyundai and they told me not to drive the vehicle if the light came on, the airbags would not work in an accident, they offered me a loaner to drive and they began work on the vehicle within the hour. Light came on after a short period of time, had it in to cocoa hyundai a second and then yet again a third time over 2 months. The light has been going on and off for the past 3 1/2 years and it has now been on for the past 4 months, i can`t afford to have the vehicle into the shop on a regular basis and would like you to look into this make and model for air bag defects.

The passenger seat weight classification sensor failed and as a result the car shut down the airbag system. The airbag warning light is on and as such none of the airbags will function. The dealer quoted me at nearly $2,000 to fix the problem, and mentioned replacing the entire seat bottom.requiring a complete seat replacement for a simple sensor seems like a major design flaw. Meanwhile, this really affects the safety of the vehicle as the airbags are not functioning.

I was drivingback home and approaching a stop when my srs airbag light came on, indicating malfunction of airbag. No airbags were deployed, but light would not go away. Brought it into authorized hyundai service center, and they stated right front seat track sensors have failed. The cost for replacing this part is extremely expensive, and driving with this light on i think would be a safety hazard if i got into a car accident. I have seen other reports and complaints of other owners having similar problem. Can you please investigate. Thank you.

Driving on highway 65 mph, power steering went out. When i reached my destination which was another 20 miles away i researched and a bit and when i turned car back on a few hours later it was working again. I received a recall letter about it almost a year later. Why did i just receive that? took to dealership for that and three other recalls (two i was not aware of. The stop light i did get a letter about, however the airbag light has been on for months and i see by reading these other complaints that there shuld be a recall about that. Dealership tells me the whole sterring mechanism is bad and are replacing this week. The high profile tires have been a nightmare since i bought the vehicle, expensive for that sized car and don't last more than 30k miles. I don't think the tire issue has anything to do with the branding. After reading all these complants, i most likely will not buy from hyundai again. The airbag issue is an expensive fix, a potential safety hazard and should be rectified by hyundai. Stand behind your product, simple ethical expectation

Airbag light is constantly on, indicating a failure.on further discovery, it is a known issue with the referenced model for the passenger seat occupant sensor to fail.the car does not recognize when a passenger is in the passenger seat and when not, causing an airbag fault and possibly failing to deploy airbag in an accident.the replacement part exceeds $2000 (remedy is to replace the seat). ...updated 08/20/15

Airbag warning light is illuminated in instrument cluster.brought it to the dealer for routine maintenance and had them look into it at that time.they said the weight sensor in the front passenger seat is malfunctioning.this sensor tells the airbag system if someone is sitting in the front seat and whether it should be on or not.the on/off light by the controls appears to be working properly.meaning if someone is sitting in the seat, the airbag off light is not illuminated. The dealer stated that the sensor is measuring a negative 100+kg.the only way to repair the problem is to replace the sensor which entails replacing the seat bottom.they quoted $1500 to do the job.the airbag system is still working but it takes over 100 kg to turn on the passenger airbag.

I purchased the car in feb 2012 at 34,214 mi and in 1 yr time, i kept blowing lights...headlights, fog, brake and tail.i put a lot of miles on my car so by the time i became annoyed by it, i just missed my warranty so i let it go.ffwd to sept 2014, i couldn't keep my tail and brake lights functioning at the same time.after several bulb replacements, it was discovered that it wasn't the bulbs that kept blowing, but rather the fuse.as soon as i turned the lights on, it would pop.nov 2014 at 118,470 mi, i brought it to a dealership to have them research...after 3 days it was discovered that the wires that go around the license plate frame were being pinched by the screws creating a diag short so it was adjusted and i moved on.jan 2015, same problem!!i took it back to the same dealership and after they tore apart the car again, it was discovered that there was damaged wiring to the r/s plate lamp to the extent that they were melted together and every time the lights were turned on, it would smoke.this is a separate issue that was not seen in nov.it was repaired so it won't happen again, but that was 3 years of electrical drama that should have been avoided.i still have electrical issues inside the car, but at least my exterior lights work.

There were no issues with the car until eps (red) and esc off (yellow) lights came on when the car was started one evening, and in turn the power steering was lost.vehicle was driven earlier in the day without any problems.it was parked for about 30 minutes or so, and when it was turned on again the lights came on and the steering wheel felt like it was locked.it is very difficult to turn the steering wheel at low speeds.vehicle was taken to a local hyundai dealer where error codes c1260, c1604, and c1513 were diagnosed.the dealer performed the steering angle re-calibration and the ecu software update, but the errors persisted.the dealership stated that electronic power steering column and the stop lamp switch needed to be replaced.these exact two parts were a subject of two separate recalls for this vehicle (campaigns # 110 and 127) and were repaired/serviced in 2015 and the recall was closed.it is very strange that both of these parts would fail again without any notice, particularly the electronic power steering column, considering that the car only has 47000 miles and this part was repaired in 2015.

When going around curves more than 35 mph the car will start decelerating (as if it's braking on its own without me engaging the braking system)and the esc light illuminates on dash. Also the exhaust makes a popping noise after engine is shut off which cause a powertrain issue because the vehicle is not accerrating properly. I personally know someone that has the same exact vehicle and that customer experiences the same issue.

I was driving on the highway with cruise control on. When i turned the cruise control off, the car would not slow down. In fact, the car increased in speed even with the cruise control completely off. I stepped on the breaks and it slowed down a bit, but as soon as i stepped off the break the car would start to accelerate.i made my way off the exit and pressed the break hard and with the help with emergency break, i was able to stop at the side of the exit and was able to turn off the car.as soon as i started up the car again, the engine revved real high.i opened the hood of the car and saw that plastic engine cover had split and the broken piece was jamming the throttle cable. I believe this is a highly dangerous issue.i've included pictures of the broken part and where the broken part was touching the throttle.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai elantra touring. The contact stated that another driver informed him that the brake lights were not functioning. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The contact also stated that the cruise control was no longer operable. The failure and current mileages were 92,000.

Gas servicing door will not open whenfuel door release is pulled under drivers seat. Worked good for about 6 to 7 months then stopped working. Took in to dealer he was supposed to fix it. Did not. This could be a real problem if you cannot pry open the fuel door to service the door. This is a common occurrence from what is on the web. 2009 hyundai elantra touring.

Gas tank overflows at cap during refueling.

I have a consistent problem with shifting gears. This has been going on for a few years. I'll try to take off and it feels like it gets stuck between the lower gears. It causes the car and occupants to get jerked around strongly. A few times it has made it difficult to proceed through an intersection. Hyundai dealer states it is the "speed sensors", but no longer covered under warranty.

Emergency brake handle is loose. Randomly while driving the ebrake light comes on the dashboard. To make the light go away, i have to tap the brake down. The lever handle is loose and shakes when i am driving. This could be a dangerous situation. This happens daily. This started happening a few months ago.

I have a 2009 hyundai elantra touring with 2 recalls.i first noticed a problem on 7/25/21 when my power steering stopped working all of a sudden.so i googled the info & discovered that it was a recall: #127 - epsand, then discovered the other recall: #188 - abs i contacted hyundai on mon 7/26/21 & spoke w/ tiffany & she started a claim:#18490296.i was told my car would be picked up within 2-3 days & taken to the hyundai dealership & all repairs would be done free of charge.as of 8/11/21 it has been a total of 16 days since starting the claim & i have made phone calls every day & documented who i have spoken to. I am getting the runaround & no one can tell me when my car will be picked up & taken to be fixed.(cust svc reps agreed that it shouldn't be taking this long!)i am fed up, frustrated & i don't know what to do from here.i have read that with the recalls, it isn't safe to drive my car & because of these issues.it is costing me time & money being out of work!this is so un-acceptable & i need answers as to what to do & how i'm ever going to get my car repaired?!i'm glad i found your website & i just hope someone can give me some feedback & help in getting this problem resolved!i desperate!so whomever reads this message, i'm begging you please help me?!thank you very much!

I was notified of a recall for the abs breaks stating that there could be a short circuit issue and could cause a fire in the engine compartment. I called hyundai in late july 2020, scheduled an appointment for a broken window and recall.upon leaving the hyundai dealership i was told that the recall part is not available and needed to be ordered.it is now october 15, 2020 and the part has still not arrived.i have called the dealership and they have stated that they have approximately 20 people waiting for this part and they have only received 5 parts.it has been almost 3 months.i believe that the dealership has done everything that they can but hyundai is lagging.i really hope that the engine compartment of my car doesn't catch fire.

On 8/3/18, while exiting off highway,i was stationary at a stop light attop of ramp.when light changed,i tried toto turn left, but the steering wheel locked.it was near impossible to turn so i threw on my flasher to help avoid being rear ended. I made an appointment at hyundai dealership as quickly as possible, 8/6 and they performed diagnostics tests which pulled up codes relating to malfunctions torque sensor, steering angle sensor, eps failure, ecu failure.at low mileage of 32,485 miles, the dealer recommended i replace the entire steering column and eps due to internal failure.computer was unable to read torque to ecm.ipromptly filed a complaint with hyundai usa to take responsibility to repair.there are hundreds of complaints regardingmajor manufacturing defects with steering parts breaking, malfunctions, and recalls that haven't fixed the critical underlying problems that resurface.eps module reset/replacement during recall in 2015 did not fix the problem.the dealer stated, the car is unsafe to drive.why are major steering malfunctions allowed to continue with hyundai usa?

When i tried to start my 2009 hyundaielantra touring, i could not move the ignition key or the steering wheel.with great effort in trying to turn the wheel, it has been possible to get it to move.after this happened for the third time,i took it to the hyundai dealer in punta gorda, fl.before he even looked at it, the service managertold me all cars do that.that there was nothing they could do to fix it.something about an anti theft feature and that i had to leave the steering wheel at 11:00 o'clock position. The car now has only 23,232 miles on it and i was stranded again in the grocery store parking lot. This has now happened to me 5 times, in flat parking lots, in the hot sun in florida.i had to call aaa, twice, as i was not strong enough to move the wheel.what good is a 100,000 mile warranty, if they can't or won't fix the car? i am afraid to drive it, as i would not want to get stuck someplace unsafe.

Car consistently steers or pulls to the right even when driving on flat surface. Tires checked and not theproblem. Dealer did an alignment but still pulls to right. Dealer not able to fix after twovisits. Might be a defect with the electronic power steering.

Steering wheel completely locked up while driving.

The contact owns a 2009 hyundai elantra touring. The contact stated while driving 20 mph and attempting to make a right turn, an eps message appeared on the instrument panel and the vehicle was not able to make the turn. The contact stopped and restarted the vehicle and drove back to the residence however, the vehicle was difficult to steer. The contact had the vehicle towed to the local dealer south point hyundai (4610 s ih 35 frontage rd, austin, tx 78745) and the vehicle was diagnosed with a mdts computer error. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.

My electronic power steering went out, thankfully as i was backing out my garage. The hyundai dealer said the motor needs to be replaced but the motor is inside the steering column, so i need a whole new column. This runs around $1,600 including labor. After searching online, this appears to be a widespread issue with the elantra. Even someone at the dealer said they don't know why there isn't a recall. I feel like one should be issued although it would be too late to save me from paying $1,600.

Eps bulb test remains on after ignition and engine running. No power steering present. Recall # 127 performed in 2016, however problem has returned. Vehicle has 51500 miles, 2009 hyundai touring. Hyundai usa did not authorize dealer to repair this recall as a campaign code 02/11/2021. Despite issuance of hyundai case # 17688862 the case manager has not resolved this issue for me to have vehicle repaired. I am informing the national hwy traffic safety admin., herein on this day 02/12/2021 as currently the vehicle is in danger of causing a major accident.

I was driving to work, went to pass a car, my vehicle kept accelerating. I pulled back into the right lane, stepping on the brakes as the car kept going faster. I stood on the brakes , no luck, pulled the emergency brake, it slowed down a little, so i turned the car off and coasted onto the side of the road. I turned the car on again to put it in park, i had to fight with it and the engine was just screaming. I got it in park and shut it off again. It was very scarey to have no contol of the speed. When the tow truck came the ar would not start at all, he said the battery was dead. Now i'm waiting to hear from the dealer.
