Read complaints for HYUNDAI AZERA (2012)

I purchased a 2012 hyuandai azera in july 2012, the car has only 30,000 miles the vehicle has been garage kept and well maintained.two week ago i noticed the dash was splitting around the area where the air bag is located (passenger side). Took the car to route 60 hyundai, service manager sad they wouldn't cover under extended warranty, however it would cost $2,600.00 to repair, the part is $1,600.00 labor is $1,000.00. I don't have that kind of money.this defect was a problem in the 2008 model of azera, it is a design flaw and should be covered.what if this airbag deploys while i'm driving?there is a reason this area is weak and splitting around the airbag poor design or workmanship.....

At that time the accident occurred, my wife took my daughter to school by my car.according to my wife, when she almost parked the car in parking lot of school, suddenly the car began to be accelerated without pushing accelerate pedal. She pushed the brake pedal continuously, but it never worked. Car turned right with full speed, and crashed into a tree behind the car and stopped.in crash, right side airbag burst out and front right side of my car was fully broke up.my wife and my daughter were so shocked and frightened. For a while they can't do anything and my wife will not be able to drive any more.

My wife ran of the highway at about 50mph traveled a short distance in the ditch and struck the side of a driveway where it joined the road, flew over the driveway landing on the other side causing a compression fracture of 2 vertebrae and although the azerawas a total loss with the front suspension pushed back 8" and the roof buckled, none of theairbagswere inflated. I can help but think that her injuries would have been less if these had worked. The accident took place at hwyff and county road 170 joplin mo.

The passenger side airbag is not detecting passengers sitting on the passenger side of car.

The contact owns a 2012 hyundai azera. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.

When starting the car you hear a loud clattering noise. And it doesn't go away. I was told i needed a oil change, oil change was performed. The noise was still happening took it back to the dealer then was told i needed a timing tension belt. Wasted my money because the issue still wasn't fixed. And now when i start my car it a louder noise coming from my engine and whiling driving my car stalls really back and while driving i can still hear the noise.

Knocking noise when starting up the car then suddenly losing power while driving. Then suddenly a engine knocking noise while driving. Then engine locking up.

After my vehicle has sit for a about an hour or more when started their is a loud clattering rattle noise coming from the engine for about a few seconds and it goes away. Taken my vehicle to the dealer multiple times and i keep being told its nothing. This problem started in april 2017 and happens everyday.

Knocking noise when turning on the car suddenlosing power while driving ,sudden engine knocking noise while driving

The contact owns a 2012 hyundai azera. The contact shifted the vehicle into the reverse position and it jerked into the position violently. The failure recurred several times. The contact sustained injuries to her neck and back. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis on five occasions but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 0 and the current mileage was 6,000.

The driver seat recline engages while driving without input from driver now stuck in full recline position and moves seat in reverse without input from driver

I just read where hyundai's genesis model has brake issues. I have a 2012 azera that had brake issues last winter when the car is cold. The brakes grab as soon i get the car going. For example, if my car is parked outside overnight and i pull to the end of the driveway to leave in the morning, the brakes will suddenly grab as i depress them. This only happens the first or second time i brake and after the car gets going the brakes work fine. I've complained to my hyundai dealership and they say there's nothing wrong, it's part of the vehicle's startup process which is crazy. There is definitely something wrong with the brake system. Please let me know if you've heard any similar complaints on this vehicle. Thanks.

With 5 weeks i had both frontdisc brake caliber units freeze up and require replacement because they failed to work.when in motion the vehicle felt like it was being retarded, the vehicle vibrated badly and i thought i had a flat tire.the vibration occurred at both low and highway speeds and occasionally affectedsteering the front rotors needed to be resurfaced and the pads were warped by extreme heat from the friction of the calibers being locked.the first episode was in late march 2017, the most recent was 5/3/2017

Reporting another power steering motor coupling issue just like several others listed for the azera.my car has the same clanking sounds when turning left or right and intermittent vibrations at highway speeds that just comes and goes for no apparent reason. I do not understand how the same part is not a recall issue for every model that has the defective part.when a defective part is identified, every model with that part should be eligible for warranty recall repair / replacement of the part and not just the elantra and sonata.

I confirmed my car have mdps steering moter coupling issue symptom.click sound happen when steer wheel rotate left and right.this case have huge recall at sonata before. Azera from 2011-14 also have same problem base on information from korea recall site. My car also have same safety issue.i can't drive car due to potential safety risk which lock steering by broken coupling.i send a mail to beaverton hyundai about this and try to get recall service but they didn't reply my mail.

Steering wheel makes clicking sound upon turning it either left or right, even when car is in park just turning the wheel slightly and this also happens while driving at normal speed.when driving highway speed, the steering wheel begins to shake upon the slightest movement of it.i have checked to see if there were any recall notices, but have found none despite similar complaints on this make and model.

Owner and inspection mechanic noticed and observed steering wheel clunking and banging from left to right.known problem with similar models and use the same part that is defective! 2012 hyundai azera steering coupler is faulty and needed replaced per hyundai dealer and would cost us $282.00 plus tax. They would not cover the part which is around $10.00 but want a lot of money for labor.thankfully we had an extended warranty but we still should have not had to pay for a faulty part. Its happening to many other hyundai models that use the same part. Car was dangerous to drive feeling the banging while driving and at a stop. Had car repaired and..wow no more banging..vibrations.

The steering malfunctioned. When we tried to turn the wheel the it would slip and the car would not respond or suddenly would. It was very scary because the car could not be steered properly. We took it to the dealer who said the steering coupler had failed and needed to be replaced. This component has been recalled and/or warranty extended to cover in other hyundai models for the same reason but it has not yet been recalled in the azera. We discussed this with hyundai customer service who confirmed.it was repaired by hyundai of south brunswick nj for $452.34. There is a technical service bulletin describing the problem. This is a common, dangerous azera failure and should be remedied as it has been for other models.

Steering wheel has a popping sound either set park or drive., vehicle also drift to the right and a vibration in high way speeds.

The contact owns a 2012 hyundai azera.the contact stated that there was an abnormal rattling sound in the steering while driving. The vehicle was taken to parkway hyundai (5920 market st a, wilmington, nc 28405, (877) 250-3183) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 102,888.

2012 hyundai azera, vehicle has 64,000 miles. Has developed a clicking/clunking sound in the steering column when turning the steering left, right, and when hitting bumps. The issue can be replicated sitting still or when driving via a prominent clicking/clunking sound. Steering has become sloppy and dangerous. Research shows it is a defective steering coupler that hyundai is aware of, which is not covered under warranty. This issue is documented by numerous complaints, yet hyundai has not provided a recall despite it being recalled for replacement on other hyundai models using the same coupler.

The steering is making clicking sound when moving the steering wheel slightly to the left and to the right.based on internet research, the problem appears to be relating to the steering motor coupling issue.the noise occurs rather or not the vehicle is moving or still.the engineer must be running.there's been safety recalls for the exact issue on other hyundai models with the same parts number, so nhtsa, why hasn't nhtsa issue, or cause to be issue, a safety recall on the azera?what's it going to take, injuries and/or deaths?how many?the problem is getting worse.the car has less than 31,000 miles.

Clicking in steering wheel moving left and right. As it progressed a clunking/rattling noise would occur on pot holes or cracks in pavement. Noise occurs at any posted speeds

Hyundai 2102 azara. Base model. Noted that the steering was starting to stick while making a turn or making small corrections while driving straight on highway/ roadway. Steering not smooth but erratic.brought to dealer, nappleton hyundai, and it was diagnosedas having an open circuit in the steering ecu unit. Mechanic told me not to drive car as the condition was dangerous and could result in an accident. I left car at dealer waiting for replacement ecu unit. Car was at dealer for 8 days and then repaired. Repair cost $1100. Tthe car had 59000 miles and was out of warrenty. Contacted hyundai customer service and requested assistance with goodwill extension of warrenty .hyundai warrenty would not provide any good will assistance. I have read similiar problems with 2011 hyundai sonata where the ecu was not properly sealed and moisture got into the ecu causing streeing failure. Hyundai had a recall on those models with the ecu unit during the same time era.

Clinking and clanking noise in the steering.this is the same problem reported by others.sonata and elantra had a recall to replace the part but it was not recalled for azera.probably because not as many azera's have been sold; but unfair that we also have the problem and hyundai will not fix it.the noise happens when moving the steering wheel, when a bump is hit while driving.shaking of the steering wheel also happens at detain speeds while driving.

In early 2017, hyundai issued the following announcement...''hyundai motor america is revising the warranty coverage for the rubber coupling in the motor driven power steering (mdps) assembly on 2007-2015 elantra sedans, 2009-2012 elantra touring models, 2011-2014 sonata sedans, and 2011-2015 hybrid sonata sedans to 10 years from the date of original delivery or the date of first use, or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first.'why isn't the steering coupler on the 2012 hyundai azera covered under the same warranty that hyundai extended to the 2007 ' 2015 elantra sedans, 2009 ' 2012 elantra touring models, 2011 ' 2014 sonata sedans and 2011 ' 2015 hybrid sonata sedans?this exact component was utilized in similar year azeras, yet hyundai will not honor the warranty extension or reimburse me for the $ 325.00 i spent to have this repair made.

Steering coupler failure. This part has been recalled on other models and should be recalled on the azera.

On three seperate occasions, the eps light would light up and the steering would get extremely difficult, almost to the point of locking up. After the third incident on jan. 22nd, my wife refused to drive the car. Our local dealer said there were no other reports or bulletins concerning this type of problem. After a diagnostics check, it was determined that there had been an issue and that a new power steering unit would be installed.

Steering has developed delay before engaging turning mechanism.hyundai has issued a safety recall for the same steering problem for certainelantras and sonatas. The same safety issue remains for the 2012 azera.it is my opinion that hyundai should recall and repair azeras as well.

The steering wheel makes a loud "thunk" when turned side to side, at a stop.seems loose ??

2012 hyundai azera. Consumer writes in regards to the vehicle pulling to the right while driving. *tgwthe consumer stated the vehicle would also pull to the right, while in cruise control mode. Also, the steering wheel was not centered, it was tilted to the left, as there was also a slight pull to the left.

Coupler gear in steering system is deteriorating, causing a good amount of play in steering wheel an vibrations in steering that is very severe at times at higher speeds, this could be serious an dangerous situation at speed..this is very concerning!!

The steering wheel "clanks" when moving side to side while setting still.upon research, and talking to the service dept. At my hyundai dealer, it's the "steering coupler".i was told that the other hyundai models with the same problem were under a "recall", but not the azeras??

The flexible steering coupling failed in our 2012 azera after 67,000 miles driven.steering wheel would make a clunking sound and wouldn't be as responsive as normal.learned this was the same exact part that also failed in the hyundai sonata and elantra; which had recalls to fix the issue.due to low sales volume of the azera, it is my speculation it didn't reach the number of complaints to get attention.however, the part and the part failure is the same.

When vehicle is making turns the wheel makes a clicking noise.every time...manufacturer denies problem for azera but same part on other hundays are recall.

Steering wheel has clunking noise and steering is loose. This is a known issue, just like all of the others on this site.power steering coupler is bad, as identified by firestone and hyundai dealer. Hyundai will not replace it as it was not part of the sonata and elantra recall for the identical problem.

On my 2012 hyundai azera the steering coupler is worn out, clunking and needs to be replaced. The sonata and and tuscon are recalled for this same part. The azera should be as well!

Steering pops when steering wheel is moved from left to right.

The contact owns a 2012 hyundai azera. The contact stated that while driving there was an abnormal sound coming from the steering column. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Millennium hyundai (265 north franklin street, hempstead, ny 11550, (516) 282-3800) was contacted and informed of the failure. The failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 27,591.

This 2012 azera only has 8,700 miles. Moving the steering wheel left or right produces a clicking sound. This is a known issue of a worn rubber flex coupling in the steering motor. Hyundai pays for replacing the part on sonata and elantra models even after the standard five year warranty. The azera uses the exact same part number (563152k000fff) but they will not pay for repair after the 5 year warranty. This is probably because they only sold low numbers of azera models which would of course mean lower numbers of complaints compared to the high volume models. This is obviously a steering safety issue ot huyndai would not pay for repairs on any model out of warranty. My local dealer quoted $270 (florida, zip code 33331) to replace the flex coupler.i believe hyundai should pay for the repair. I am fearful that i will lose steering control as the rubber coupling arms break apart further.

My azera is out of warranty but the steering coupler is worn and needs to be replaced. Several models and model years have been issued a recall for this problem but my vehicle (according to hyundai customer care) is not one of the vehicles. Hyundai should repair the worn steering coupler with no charge to the customer or at least discount the cost of repair from the outrageous $500.00 price quoted to me. The part is less than $20.00 to purchase. My steering column clunks over bumps and vibrates at speeds over 50 miles/hour.

Steering wheel clicking and rattles when going over bumps while in motion.clicking happens when stationary.

The alignment has been bad on this car since i bought the car.my tires wore out at 28000.the outer edge of the tires are boldwhen i first took it in they blamed the roads. The car has always pulled to the right.i have to keep pressure on the steering wheel at all time to keep the car going straight.i took the car in after my tires wore out and they charged me $99 for an alignment, which i was happy to pay if they could fix it. When i got the car back, i had to hold the steering wheel off center to keep the car straight.i took the car back, they made a small adjustment but are now blaming the road again.then they said there was a scratch on my wheel which i recently got and they blamed the alignment issue on that.that doesn't explain the alignment issue for the first 27000 miles.i like hyundai.i have a santa fe and i used to own another one but i have a feeling i am going to be selling my 2012 azera in the very near future.

Steering whell makes clunk sound when turned to left and right. Also makes same sounds when going over bumps on the road. Similar to what others are describing. 45,000miles

My hyundai azera has been diagnosed with a malfunction of a motor driven steering coupling , after further research online i have noticed that there are multiple complaints and issue with this same part on different model vehicle.there are some vehicle models that have been recalled for this particular part but my vehicle is not on the list.i feel that it should be hyundai responsibility to recall all vehicles for the same issue...

Had my 2012 hyundai azera in for pa state inspection an was advised that the steering coupler was going bad i have around 35000 miles on this car. Hyundai has a recall on other model cars of this year but not the azera for the same problem steering part

Known hyundai problem with the steering... Clunking and rattling noise when turning the wheeland going over bumpy roads

There is 'slop' or 'play' developing in the steering.you can move the steering wheel left and right without it engaging the steering.while driving, you must move the steering wheel farther to change direction.it has been diagnosed as a defective steering column coupler by an ase certified mechanic.other hyundai's have a recall on this part but not the azera and they are the same part doing the same function and failing the same way.hyundai should be directed to cover all their models with this same part.it can be felt failing while sitting still and moving the steering wheel and is more noticeable when driving, especially on the highway.

The steering on my car is making clicking clanking noises, the same symptoms that other azera owners are reporting a defective steering coupler.

For a while they can't do anything and my wife will not be able to drive any more.

The contact owns a 2012 hyundai azera. While driving approximately 40 mph, the front passenger side coil spring suddenly fractured and damaged the front passenger side tire. The vehicle was towed to hertrich hyundai (120 s. Dupont hwy, new castle, de) where the coil spring was replaced. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 98,000. The vin was invalid.
