My family was driving our 2001 hyundai accent in which another vehicle collided with ours except the dash board air bags didn't inflate. Afterwards within two weeks i stopped at the nearest dealership and asked who should i inquire why the air bags didn't work. The vehicle was totaled and i did send an email to the address the dealership provided but have heard nothing. My wife and daughter got banged up but are okay now. My concern is that it could of been much serious and why i haven't heard anything from hyundai. The accident occurred on october 20, 2009 in el centro, california. Thank you.

Vehicle had a decrease in acceleration.consumer later received recall 01v346002 for pcv kit.took vehicle to dealer, and they replaced pcv kit. Problem is still occurring.. Consumer has experienced a higher than normal idle speed when the accelerator pedal is released.consumer has taken vehicle in several times prior to the recall.there is a loud grinding noise heard resulting in brake dust on the rims.the vehicle remains sluggish in acceleration.consumer was informed to keep the vehicle in over drive and it would eliminate the problem.consumer also stated that the battery light illuminates.consumer was involved in an accident.consuemr had stopped for a red light.when the light turned green, consumer let up off the brake and without giving any gas to the vehicle, the vehicle slid into the vehicle in front. *jg
When at a stop, and brake applied, vehicle will surge and engine will rev. Vehicle will also accelerate on its own and buck while driving. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 3 times, the pulse generator was replaced twice. Also the battery was replaced, also a tire blew out.

Approximately 3000 miles after having a 60,000 mile service involving replacement of all belts, including timing belt using high quality belts of known quality, a high voltage arching condition is observed on the face of the harmonic balancer (hb). Arch is approx. .250-.500 inch in length and projects from the outermost edge of the hb toward the center of same. Using a jumper cable connected to the negative battery terminal, arch can be pulled from the outer edge of harmonic balancer, but no other pulley surface nor belt surface. Condition is intermittent and forced reproduction has not been possible, but occurs with sufficient frequency to permit troubleshooting. Condition has not been previously observed. After extensive diagnosis, it appears the insulator rubber between mating parts of the hb has degraded resulting in excessive internal resistance which results in static charge generated by belts to escape pulley interior, discharging over the exterior surface. Under the right conditions, this could result in an explosive event should a combustion fuel be present; therefore this should be investigated as a safety issue. Dealer states no knowledge of this being an issue. Replacement hb on order and is expected in about one week.

Vehicle's had a high idle, which caused unexpected acceleration. Dealer has repaired the defective part, but problem still exists. After the repair, both the throttle position sensor and the pulse generator had gone bad. Dealership refused to cover parts because they were out of warranty. Finally they agreed to replace the throttle position sensor free of charge.the consumer had to pay for the pulse generator to be replaced. Consumer feels the prescription outlined in the recall wasn't sufficient to correct the emissions defect. *ph

Went on a trip out of the state.i noticed that i wasn't getting my normal mileage.i filled my gas tank when i arrived at my destination and parked; after an hour, i noticed that a river of gasoline was coming from my tank.after being parked two days, i had lost over 2 1/2 gallons of gas, and noted a distinct burning smell coming from my exhaust pipe during my drive home.i am in the process of arranging for an appointment with my dealer in order to have the gas tank replaced or repaired.
Gas was leaking from tank to the inside of the car under the back seat around the plate that covers the fuel pump.gas pooled underneath the the back seat on passenger side.when seat was removed the foam on the underneath side was saturated with gas and from the top of the seat you could put pressure on the seatand gas would literally leak out of the seat.the week before our grandchildren were in the back seat and we all were complaining of headaches.the smell is still there after 2 attempt of the car dealership spraying it and ordering a new back seat.we feel like we should have a new car out of this because it is not fixed.this could have been so dangerous.the person at the dealership told us we were very lucky people. If we had smoked or someone threw a cigarette or match it would have exploded.also he said after the plate got so full, it could have gone back on the exhaust and it would have blown.when i think what could have happened it makes me sick.my only hope is there is not another one out there like it because it could be very dangerous.this car should never have made it off the line.this makes me think that they do not inspect their cars very well if one or more got by with something as dangerous as a gas leak.
The transmission slips or doesn't catch from reverse to drive for a few seconds. Also from drive to reverse.

Problems with vehicle shifting properly.*mrthe consumer heard a ticking noise.the vehicle was taken tot he dealerwhere they found a bent baffle in the valve cover. When the vehicle was shifted from reverse to drive it slammed into gear.this occurred although the vehicle was warm. The dealer replaced the pulse generator.the consumer stated that when the vehicle was parked on a slight grade the gear shifter was difficult to move from park.the dealer suggested that he consumer apply the emergency brake prior to putting the shifter into park.*nlm

Dealer fixed wheel bearings at no charge in 1 day. Dealer replacing transmission by end of the week - no loaner or rental car available; i have to rent a car. Service rep. Complained about car being our of warranty; i reminded her car was bought may 11. Do i have a lemon? are my kids safe in it? i'm very displeased with dealer about this.

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai accent. The contact stated that the rear window defroster was engaged and when he shut off the defroster, there was a loud explosion sound. The contact then noticed that there was a large hole in the rear window with small web0like fractures surrounding the hole. The window then disintegrated and fell in the rear seat of the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that when attempting to accelerate, the vehicle was hesitant to engage. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted in regards to the failures.the failure mileage was approximately 10,000 and the current mileage was 15,955.

Car would not reverse, and jerks when shifting from 2-3rd gear.contacted dealer and was told transmission is completely shot, and must be replaced, at a cost of $2500.found that when shifting from reverse to drive prior car would jolt.
Since we bought the car, it has been to the dealership repair shop 5 times, for the same problem. The car begins to have problems shifting gears, it loses power, as not going higher than 20-30 miles. When the gas pedal is applied, the car gets stuck for several seconds before it jerks and begins to run again. Everytime we take it in they repair the pulse generator. The pulse generator has been changes two time in the last three months alone (june, august), and now its ready to go back into the shop again. It is getting worse, it is becoming a safety issue because it gets stuck anywhere, and can get hit from behind, or get into an accident when it stops in the middle of a cross section.

The vehicle doesn't go over 20 mph and sometimes it won't shift above first gear due to power transmission problem. The dealer replaced the transmission, but the problem still exists.
The clutch malfunctioned after the consumer made an emergency stop.clutch disc failure was determined to be the cause. The consumer stated that the mileage of the vehicle was changed while it was being serviced.
When upshifting and downshifting, the gears grind even if clutch is fully depressed. Vehicle has been taken in and new components were installed under a "campaign"but the problem still exists and i will see the service mgr again to discuss what further can be done.
The retractor assembly for the front passenger seatbelt no longer functions properly. An unusual noise is heard from the assembly when it is extended or retracted and it fails to lock when the seat belt is tugged on. I have contacted both my local dealer and hyundai customer service, both refuse to cover any repairs.
The passenger seat belt when pulled all the way out, tightens adult passenger so tight against chest that they can not breathe, each movement makes it tighten more, consumer also states that the passenger seat belt is shorter than the others.nlm
Both front seat belt buckles came undone while driving, also, the consumer noticed that theywere unable to hear the clicking sound when snapping the latch plate into the buckle.dealer was notified.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who noticed extensive rusting on the brake lines and was deteriorating. The vehicle was repaired. On another occasion, the vehicle was inspected and it was noticed that there was extensive rust and corrosion near the front of the framing near the front wheels and the motor mount. The mechanic diagnosed that the frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

My mechanic told me in april 2020 my 2001 hyundai accent is not safe to drive because the sub frame hasdecayed up to were it connects to the body underneath.
Both control arms and drivers side of sub frame completely rotted out.there is a recall for the 2001-2003 elantra and tiberon,yet not the accent?somebody isn't doing their job!!

Front sub frame is severely corroded between drivers lower control arm and sub frame mount at radiator core support.corrosion has created a hole on each side of the frame rail that will allow for passage of an object similar in size to a deck of cards.passenger side is similarly corroded. Front sub frame replacement will be necessary in order maintain safe vehicle operation. The degree of front sub frame corrosion is not in line with the condition of the balance of the vehicle. Balance of the vehicle exhibits minimal corrosion.

Repair shop did not perform alignment requested on 2001 hyundai accent.one reason was:"cradle is rusted through"similar recalls exist for hyundai elantra (similar design) and sonata (engine cradle) for same model year.this represents a dangerous condition.vehicle is operated in wisconsin, where roads are salted in winter.

My mechanic told me in april 2020 my 2001 hyundai accent is not safe to drive because the sub frame hasdecayed up to were it connects to the body underneath.
Ignition coil went out 3 days after vehicle purchased. Since then it has been replaced 2 more times.also, front end will shake, andengine check light comes on.

There is a bolt that has a 1/2" gap on the driver's side under the frame that was noticed when replacing the front brake pads. The passenger side suspension bolt is flush with the frame of the car. This can only be seen if the car is on the ground. This is a potential hazard. Was notified by the mechanic that is was a defect with suspension and told to get the car in asap. This could pose a serious risk to the driver as well as others on the road.

I bought a hyundai accent 2001 new at car pros in lacey (now sold).on the incident date i had a flat tire from a screw in tire at church.a friend changed the tire for me and put on the spare tire(little one).i noticed it looked very low.they told me not to drive it to work since i work a half-hour away and drive on the freeway (i-5).i went to les schwab and had them fix the flat tire & asked if they would look at the spare also.they told me the spare already had a plug from a hole in it and that they replaced that plug and filled the tire up properly.had i been on the freeway i would have had another flat and been stuck out there.needless to say i was upset that the new car i bought had a used spare tire in it.since i bought the car, car pros in lacey, wawas sold to titus-will in olympia, wa, so i called them to ask what do i do to get a new spare tire.the general manager called me and after discussing the matter had his staff take my car to les schwab to put a new spare tire in the car.i wonder how many other cars were sold new with used spare tires?it also makes you wonder were the tires on the car new or old? this was my first new car and didn't have a clue to check.

I was going 60 mph on the expressway, when i tried slowing down to 50 mph the rpm's kept going up as well as the speed. Could not slow down, pulled over to the emergency lane, had to press the brake completely, still did not stop, until i pulled the emergency brake. Action report, consumer received a recall for thottle body idle speed control circuit, nhtscampaign id number 01v346000. Consumer took the vehicle dealership chevrolet hyundai 1100 washington ave huntington west virginia.(304 529 2301).consumer made an appointment and took the vehicle to the dealer, he waited about 4 ? hours and he was told to reschedule another appointment. *yd
Vehicle's had a high idle, which caused unexpected acceleration. Dealer has repaired the defective part, but problem still exists. After the repair, both the throttle position sensor and the pulse generator had gone bad. Dealership refused to cover parts because they were out of warranty. Finally they agreed to replace the throttle position sensor free of charge.the consumer had to pay for the pulse generator to be replaced. Consumer feels the prescription outlined in the recall wasn't sufficient to correct the emissions defect. *ph

The contact owns a 2001 hyundai accent. The contact stated that the rear window defroster was engaged and when he shut off the defroster, there was a loud explosion sound. The contact then noticed that there was a large hole in the rear window with small web0like fractures surrounding the hole. The window then disintegrated and fell in the rear seat of the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that when attempting to accelerate, the vehicle was hesitant to engage. The vehicle was not repaired. 2001 hyundai accent. While in use, the driver's side wiper swung off without warning while driving in rain on 95 north. Wiper was inoperable. The car was taken into the local dealership the next day. The replaced the wiper. The old part is not available.driver's side wiper swung off again in rain while on the road several other times. Each time, the bolt was tightened and the wiper was operable again. In 2006, the wiper swung off again during heavy rain. Was not able to tighten bolt. Took car into dealership. They replaced wiper again.although there were no injuries, there is no warning when the wiper suddenly swings off during operation. The driver suddenly loses visibility out of the driver's side windshield during heavy rain.
