Airbag did not deploy upon impact, resulting in damage to the front and near front area and pain sustained by driver

My 1999 hyundai accent vehicle got hit on the rear (bumper) while i was still on a red light and the impact was so strong that the hit propelled my vehicle to hit the vehicle in front of my vehicle (a suburban truck) causing rear and front damages to the hyundai. The suburban incurred zero damages, while the limousine that hit meincurred very little damages if any. My vehicle got 'sandwich' even though i was about 4 to 6 feet behind the vehicle in front of me. My children were on the rear seats and incurred limited injuries. I received injuries and vehicle was total lost. The airbags did not deploy at anytime. I contacted the hyundai corporate and an investigation is yet to be scheduled. I received written confirmation that my hyundai vehicle has not been the only one with airbags deployment failure. That to me is a big safety issue that needs to be investigated accordingly.

I was involved in a t bone accident at 35 to 40 mph and my air bags did not deploy

On january 17, 2003 the air bag light illuminated on the vehicle when it traveled over a minor bump in a paved road.the vehicle is under warranty.i started and drove the vehicle to the dealer 1-22-03.the dealer stated the battery was defective and i declined to buy their battery but bought a new battery for the car which exceeded the specifications of the oem battery.the battery was installed.upon traveling back to oreilly's auto parts to return the old battery for a core exchange, i hit a minor bump in the pavement and the air bag light has illuminated again. The problem occurred with the new battery and recurred for a second time when the car hit a minor bump.i note that other 1999 hyundai's have been recalled for a defect in the wiring harness that causes this light to illuminate.i do not know if all accents have this problem but this one definetly does and it can be recreated.don cavenaugh motors is discouraging repairs by alleging an old battery can cause the light to illuminate which is false, and by not fixing the problem.now i must take the car back for a second repair meanwhile i am having to drive it with the air bag light on.i believe that hyundai and their dealing are falsifying service records so that they do not reflect a problem with the air bag light as this is a safety defect.my repair ticket says "air bag light" and states customer declined recommended repairs and stated he would get a battery from wal-mart.this repair ticket miss states the fact that there is a definite problem with the air bag.also, when hyundai customer service was contacted they made a blanket denial that there were other customers with this problem.even with good quality, it would be normal for a few cars to malfunction.i believe other hyundai accents have defective air bag wiring harnesses just as the other 1999 hyundai models already recalled and this defect poses a significant risk of increased bodily injury should an accident occur.

There were numerous electrical problems.the vehicle had broken down after charging the system and the warning light had come on.*sc the alternator overheated which caused the headlamps to fail, several fuses had to be replaced.

Fuel valve was replaced twice.also, alternator was replaced twice. Warranty expired, and any other repairs would be paidby the consumer.

1999 hyundai accent.unable to safely fill gas tank. The gas pump shuts off after pumping only 31/2 gallons.when you try to fill it up gas comes out of the filler neck spilling on the car and the ground.hyundai site showstsb 96-30-006 stating this problem has existed on their cars since 1998 butoffers no fix.is there a recall?[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

When putting gas in my 1999 hyundai accent it will only allow a few cents to be put in at one time making the gas pump constantly shut off. It takes 10- 15 minutes to fill up the tank.hyundai manufacturer saysthis is not a defect even though the problem can not be corrected after 5 attempts.

Fuel line and power steering line rubbed where they were close together in the engine compartment causing a hole in the fuel line which was spraying a steady strem of gasloline right into the engine compartment all over the transmission and radiator fans. I feel that this was a design flaw and that those lines never should have been placed that close together this is not a laughing matter however hyundai motors of america tol me there was nothing they could do about it because my car is out of warranty.i could have been killed there could have been an explosion and or fire.

Had car serviced for fuel line leak, 2 months later car caught onfire. Entire front end destroyed.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Fuel valve was replaced twice.also, alternator was replaced twice. Warranty expired, and any other repairs would be paidby the consumer.

Dt*: the contact stated while pumping gas at a gas station, the fuel filler pipe neck would only allow so much gasoline at a time upon entering the fuel tank as though it was already full of gasoline.the vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop who determined the pressure relief vacuum needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was not alerted.

While traveling 65 mph and without any indication hood flipped backward, causing consumer to slam on brakes, resulting inconsumer's vehicle running into another vehicle. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further information.

There is a delay in accelerationdue to automatic transmission failure.

Dt*: the contact stated two years ago the vehicle would not come out of second gear.an independent mechanic repaired the vehicle.the contact does not know what repairs were performed.about one month ago, the transmission started slipping into second gear.the only way to get the vehicle out of second gear is to turn the vehicle off, wait a few minutes, and restart the vehicle.the same independent mechanic determined the vehicle had a defect and referred the contact to the nhtsa.there is an nhtsa recall, # 99v178000, regarding the automatic transmission.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.

99 hyundai recall - 99v178000- atrans slip**answered by ric willard***cc

Consumer had taken vehicle to dealertwice for repairinglight on the dashboard, but then had problem with transmission, just like recall 99v178000.

We own a 1999 hyundai accent.bought brand new from dealership.have had numerous problems with car, currently transmission problems.have taken car to dealership, problem supposedly not under warranty, but charged us numerous times.got on internet and found numerous recalls on this make of car.we have never received a recall notice regarding any of the problems.would like to know how to go about obtaining these recalls, should be free from car company, and how to get this car repaired.auto transmission not shifting properly, been going on for over 8 months, no one seems to know what is wrong with it.there are several recalls associated with this problem.why were we not informed about the recalls, and why did't the dealership know about the recalls to fix the problem to begin with.please help!!!we have taken to 4 or 5 mechanics, no one able to help.

I bought my car in september of 1999 from a car dealership.over a year ago my transmission starting slipping i brought it back to the dealership under warrenty they said it was a sensor and replaced it.just 2 days ago my check engine light came on and i now longer had 4th gear and 3rd would slip in and out.i learned there was a recall and that the dealership was supposed to replace this sensor before i bought the car and again when i brought it in last year.this is a big hassle not to mention my check airbag light is also on and my alternater went on the fritz a few months ago.this car is too new for these problems and i dont think i will ever buy another hyundai again.

Transmission ceases when going on interstates, causing sudden stoppage of vehicle on the intersate causing a severe safety problem to the car a passengers.

I noticed when i got my car that is did not have good acceleration, but i figured that it was just because it only had 85 horse power it is a 99 hyundai accent. It also hitched when you would go to step on the gas.as time went on it worsened. Then one day without any warning i went to back up and i heard a huge thunking noise.i had lost reverse in my transmission and it did not shift well into first or second would not shift into 3rd or over drive. I then looked up to see if there were any recalls on my transmission and i found out that there were starting 20 days after mine was manufactured. I would like proof that they were using different solenoid valves when 20 days before the recall started because i think that it was a manufacturing defect not operators. The car only has 110736 miles on it.

The vehicle is a 1999 hyundai accent and i purchased it new.on july 2, 2004 i got in my car and turned it on.when i tried to put the car in reverse it would not move.the gear shift is stuck in 'park' and will not move unless the override switch is depressed.a technical service bulletin was issued by hyundai for this exact issue (#99-40-017), so they already know that the problem exists.but, the dealerships i contacted in my area will not fix the problem because my car has a little over 80,000 miles and is no longer under warranty.i contacted hyundai consumer affairs and they also said i would be responsible for paying for the repairs even though i never caused the problem.

Car has been in hyundai dealership in thousand oaks, ca 4 times this year with exact same problem. It feels like transmission to me.(i have automatic) when on interstate, rpm's will go high and car won't shift. At stop light, car will sit without my foot on brake or gas and not move. Extreme pushing on gas pedal to get car to accelerate is needed. Everytime in dealership they say it was some sort of sensor. This last time 12/4/03 they said they won't replace my transmission yet and will change some computer chip in transmission. They said "your car is safe to drive." i took my car home with it doing the same problem. On my way to work that night my engine light came on and car doing same problem. Left work in am straight to dealership (within 4 mi) and told the head guy. He said he knew me and my car and didn't want to help. "what do you want me to do?" he said. I said "i'm not driving my car." he said "do you want to leave it hear?" i said "yes." i told him my engine light has never come on before and now it is on. He said "you have driven you car with the engine light on before." i said "never, my light has never come on before." i left with a loaner car which he was reluctant to give me because i wasn't supposed to get that until 12/9/03 when i was to bring in my car to have the chip replaced (they had to order it). My car clearly unsafe to drive, they won't listen to me. I know of a recall #99v178000. They haven't looked into this. It came july 06/ 1999. I bought my car around 7/13/99. No written or phone call to me regarding this recall. I took my car in for the recall #v03 manifold and there wasn't a problem with this. *la

The contact owns a 1999 hyundai accent.the vehicle does not respond when the contact depresses the accelerator pedal.the dealer could not duplicate the failure.the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 99v17800.the current mileage is 84,621 and failure mileage was 81,000. Consumer's vehicle was experiencing the same problem withtransmission as stated in recall # 99 v 178 000, but this vehicle was not part ofrecall due vin.

I own a 1999 hyundai accent gl and began experiencing trouble with transmission. I searched on internet and discovered that there was a recall on transmission pertaining to the same trouble i am having with mine. I called the hyundai motor consumer affairs and they refuse to honor recall. I would appreciate info to help me exercise my rights to what i am entitled to.

In march of 2004 the transmission in my car, a 99 hyundai accent, started slipping.i took it into the dealership, sycamore chevrolet in terre haute, indiana, which i bought the car to be serviced since it was still under warrenty.they charged me $350 for parts and labor, after i told them that if the problem wasnt warrenty not to do anything since i had no money at the time.they told me they changed the 2nd gear belt, a clutch sensor, and the transmission filter and fluid because the seal holding it together was bad.2 weeks later i take it back.they tell me they cant find the problem and even accuse me of making it up.after i left there with my car i took it to a shop in paris.he took it for a drive came back and changed the transmission filter himself and showed me that the filter on my car was so clogged that nothing was getting through.it ran fine until about 3 weeks ago.since then i have had it in 2 more shops.a sensor in my transmission is going out and they have yet to pinpoint which one it is.come to find out after looking through this site and a couple others, my transmission was recalled after i bought it for the same problems im having in it now.its slipping out of gear during acceleration and downshifting hard and sticking when coming to a stop.i never received notice about this recall and no one has mentioned it when ive brought it in.i have been stranded for hours when my transmission is stuck in 1st.i have had 5 very close calls when im driving down the road and it slips out of gear, 2 of them being while semis are behind me.i do not feel safe driving my car so i am now being left without a vehicle and 2 years left to pay on it.hyundia usa in california has been notified about my complaint with their service and about my car and all i was offered was a $75 credit to my account with any hyundai rep.they deny that there was a problem with the transmission even after i have found proof on here of the recall.

We brought this car in may 0f 1999.at 4,000 miles the transmission blew a large hole and almost caused us too have an accident. This problem was fixed for us, at no cost to us.under warranty.on 12/30/99 we had the car towed to the dealer because the car was making a clicking noise.when they did an inspection they told us that the car need a new transmission.they told us that this time it was because of abuse.the car is driven by myself, my husband & also my son.this repair we had to pay for.my concern is that we think that hyundai should honor the warranty, and refund us the money that we paid already for the repair.we think that this is a defect on the transmission and we should not have to pay for this.

In a crash driver's seatbelt system did not lock. Driver hit steering wheel and sustained injuries.please provide further information.

Driver and frontpassenger restraints unlatched by occupant movement. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide additional information.

Consumer was traveling 45mph & was ran off the road.brakes were applied & vehicle spun around, then back end hit the guardrail.impact cause the driver & passenger seats to retract backwards in a lying postion.consumer's neck was broken. Insurance comapany advisedconsumer to contact us.consumer will be contacting the manufacturer & dealer.

The $ amt is currently unknown, i dont have my car with me milage is over 16000, i tried to conntact hyundai via web couldn't will try tommarow. I just crested a short hill on a left hand turn. I saw a mini-van at the bottom stopped. Mabey 3-4 car distances ahead i stared to brake i instancely noted i was not slow enough, i incresed brake press and filaly floored the bake, i went over a car and a half with the brake floored, when i was right on top of the mini-van i relized the brakes were not working and that i was going to crash, i rearended the mini-van, i left no skids and made no screech . When i floored the brake pedal i was expecting a quick but not rearending stop. Insted it was more like i put it in neutral and glided in. I have never had brake problems, and the brakes worked afterward though the care was only moved short slow distances.

While driving 5 mph and more consumer heard noise coming from the rear wheels, and a grinding noise appeared when braking. Thiscausedthe vehicle not to stop properly when braking. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop, and mechanicdeterminedthat both rear drums were out of round/warped,and needed to be replaced.

Dt:the caller said all the outsidedoorhandles except the rear passenger handle fell off. When she tried to open the doors the handles came off in her hand. She said this happened without warning. Dealer said they could not help her for free. Manufacturer has not been contacted yet.

I was driving in a traffic at about 15mph and my lower control arm broke in the middle i was lucky that i wasn't in the highway or driving fast so you aren't looking for my complaint.after checking from the bottom even the sub-frame is almost broken,i guess it is a big manufacturing problem for safety i recommend for all owners of hyundai to check there control arms and sub-frames.(note). I called hyundai they told it isn't under warranty(10years or 60000milles), i told them it is about safety those parts should be lifetime warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!

Traveling 50mph; heard a loud noise. Then, rear of vehicle dropped down. Moved to side of road and checked vehicle. Noticed tire had blownout, and large part of rim had came off.

When accelerating at different speeds and times, the gas pedal sticks to the floor, which means the car continues to accelerate. It does not stop until the brake pedal is depressed and then the gas pedal releases. This has happened several times over the past three months. Have had the dealer check it but they say they can't find the problem, so no action is taken. It continues to occur, however.*la

While turning on the rear defroster back window blew out of the rear window frame.the consumer contacted the dealer, who said that defect was not covered under the warranty.also, the consumer contacted the manufacturer, who said basically the same.the consumer viewed smoke coming from the electrical component on the passengers side. *sc

While driving in a rainstorm with rear defogger on our daughter in the back seat noticed a bad smell like burning. Where ichecked the rearview mirror i saw smoke on the passenger side near the bottom of the window. I turned off the defogger and seconds later the rear window shattered with a bang leaving a hole near the connector. By the time we reached our destination (about 30 minutes) most of the window had fallen in. Dealer initially said there was no power to rear window defogger. On further inspection they said the switch was stuck but there was no reason to think that caused the failure because there was no evidence of increased power that would cause the glass to overheat. We are still attempting to get the extended warranty we purchased to cover the repair.

1999 hyundai accent rear window exploded while driving.*mr

When the rear windows are lowered while driving the force of the wind hits the glass panel and creats a loud distracting noise in the vehicle, the faster the vehicle is driven the louder the noise gets, manufacturer are aware but have not changed the design yet.nlm

While driving and without warning windshield wipers have not functioned properly, resulting in 3 different accidents.dealer and manufacturer have been notified.

Consumer stated that is complicated to take offhub cap when there is a flat tire or just to change tires. Consumer needs a screw driver or any other tools to take off the hub cap.
