My starter magnet shorted out & burned connecting plug & electrical harness.my bike was parked in garagelike always.i went out in morning to start bike & nothing happened,a few seconds later i notice a burned smell & immediately turned off key. I then disconnected my battery & started to look for the problem. After the battery checked out to be good , i started checking fuses , when i notice the string burned smell from the starter magnet area ,the main fuse was still good but noticed the connector plug slightly melted. Upon further inspection of plug,i noticed the connectors & some wiring were burnt.
On 12/08/07, i purchased a new 2006 honda vtx1300c from: fun bike center, lakeland, florida. After the break-in period i began riding the motorcycle to work by way of interstate 4. I found that when riding the posted speed limit i was being passed by everyone. I found that when the speedometer read 70 mph i was going just under 60 mph. I explained the problem to fun bike center and i was told that honda motorcycles regularly had speedometer discrepancies and that as the tires begin to wear, the speedometer would get closer.after speaking to the dealership's general manager, the motorcycle was checked on a dyno machine.i was told that when the speedometer read 70 mph, it was actually running 62 mph. The general manager called honda about the problem.reportedly, honda stated that the discrepancy was normal and that they would do nothing to fix it. I called honda technical assistance who stated that the discrepancies are within an accepted industry standard.since then, i checked my speedometer again, the results are the same. A radar unit showed that i was going 61 whenthe speedometer showed 70mph.i consider this vehicle unsafe. Iride the interstate daily to work. However, if my motorcycle is only going 60-62 mph when the speedometer reads 70mph, then i have to guess what my speedometer has to read to be going 70 mph. Is it 80, 82 or is it even greater as the speed increases? if, as they said, that as the tires wear the speedometer becomes more accurate - when does that occur - at 5,000 miles, 10,000 miles?i wrote a certified letter to honda on 01/14/08.i have since received a call from their customer service department. They stated their position was unchanged, they would do nothing to repair the motorcycle, however they now say dot standards allow for the inaccurate speedometer.i can't believe that dot standards would allow them to sell motorcycles with inaccurate speedometers as honda has stated. This is a new motorcycle with a full warranty.
My speedometer is 11% off according to a certified (i believe) dynometer. I have spoken to honda na, motorcity powersports of bloomfield mi, & ge money several times regarding this issue to no avail. I believe this is a problem because i can likely become involved in an accident by going too slow because i don't know my correct speed. Every time i have spoken to honda they have claimed it was within specs. First 5% was acceptable because that is what i thought at the beginning. Then i was told 10% off was normal (again that was after i told them that i thought it was 10 miles off at 60 mph. I was even told that the motorcycle was designed that way to prevent operators from receiving tickets. After refusing to do anything about it i took the bike to a dealer that had a dynometer. At that time i was told it was off 11%, sent motor city a copy of the report, had the manager of the dyno shop call mcps while i was still there and still honda refuses to do anything about it because of the suspected costs involved. All i wanted was the speedometer repaired. I have to pay $10,000.00 for a motorcycle that was purchased for my wife, that we are afraid to operate because of this serious defect.

2006 honda vtx 1300 retro: the front end wobbles during deceleration from speeds of about 30 mph. Changing the front tire temporarily reduces the problem, but it recurs. This has been going on since i bought it off the showroom floor in october 2007.

My steering on my 2006 vtx1300c shakes when you let go of one side of the handlebars. If you take pressure off the grips with both hands the bike shakes violently. I just had two brand new tires put on the bike thinking it may have been one of the tires causing the issue. The problem continued even after the new tires were installed.
Handlebars shake between 35-45 mph now even at higher speeds, wobble. Go into a turn it seems to drop just a little enough to scare the s--- out of you. I see you have several complaints on this problem. Can you let me know your findings, please. With all the complaints i just assumed you have not had the time to investigate. This is truly a dangerous problem. Someone may have already been hurt or worse. No one has proved the front steering bearings were bad. Something i thought you were suppose to investigate, after any complaint.
Front wheel wobbles on 2006 honda vtx 1300r when slowing down through 45-40 mph.
Honda 2006 vtx 1300r - front wheel wobbles in the speed range of approximately 35-50 miles per hour, and is worse on deceleration.steering head bearing are suspected.wobble started at approximately 2000 miles of vehicle service and have gotten worse.dealership refused to warranty repair the vehicle, and denies the problem despite repeated complaints.
Wobble occurs in front end of motorcycle at approximately 35-40 mph.motorcycle is a honda vtx 1300 2006.
The front end starts to get the death wobble when let off the gas going around 45 mph. And it is starting to do it at more speeds now. But that is when it is the worst. Can't take both hands of the handle bars or grip it lightly or else it will shake to much and cause me to wreck.
My 2006 honda vtx 1300r developed a steering wobble when decelerating between the speed of 35 -55 mph. I noticed this problem at 4500 miles. Currently the bike has 7000 miles and the problem is getting worst, to the point i consider dangerous. The dealer attempted to tighten the head bearings, but the repair did not correct the problem. After doing some research on the web, i found that other vtx owners were experiencing the same problem. According to others, the steering bearings are insufficient. They claim that after replacing this bearing the problem was solved.
The bike wobbles and shakes very bad when decelerating from 45 mph. This occurs on straight or while turning.
Severe steering wobble on deceleration from any speed. Gets worse if i take hands off bars, bad enough to crash.
I bought a new honda motorcycle: vtx 1300c.in less that 2000 miles, it has developed a very bad "wobble" in the front forks between 45 and 55 mph.i have read that this is due to faulty bearings in the forks and that if they are replaced with the tapered bearings from the vtx 1800 model motorcycles, the problem goes away.it is very dangerous to decelerate on curve at 45 mph because the front of the bike shakes so much that it is hard to maintain control.this is a known problem that honda refuses to address.
The contact owns a 2006 honda vtx1300c. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the steering failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 19,786.

Steering wobble on the 2006 honda vtx 1300r motorcycle. Steering bearings are insufficient. Had to replace with different bearings to resolve the steering shake.
Extreme steering wobble with light or single handed grip handle bars. Very severe!
The steering will shake/vibrate at speeds between 25-40mph, sometimes more violently than others.the front bearing was inspected and appeared to be ok. The front tire was recently replaced and the problem persisted. This has been an ongoing issue since i purchased the vehicle new in 2007.
Wobble when driving.wobble gets much worse when 1 or 2 hands are not firmly on handlebars. Gets much worse during deceleration.
Severe shaking of the handle bars. Found that steering fork bearings were bad. Had to replace them. Less then 5000 miles on this vehicle. This could cause loss of control if not corrected.
The contact owns a 2006 honda vtx1300.while driving less than 60 mph, the vehicle wobbled uncontrollably.it was found that the craftsmanship of the head bearings caused the steering to wobble.the manufacturer could not assist because there were no recalls pertaining to this failure.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated not to worry.a different dealer attempted to tighten the head bearings, but the repair did not correct the failure.the dealer stated that the wobble may have been a result of the tires; however, the contact had just purchased new tires, which did not correct the wobbling.the failure and current mileages were less than 14,000.
