The contact owns a 2018 honda ridgeline. The contact stated that while reversing, the rear-view camera failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that the wiring harness was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty coverage and to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnosis. The failure mileage was 52,904.
The wiring harness that supports the backup camera on my 2018 honda ridgeline has cracked and i suspect broken wires in that harness is the reason that the backup camera does not work any longer. (it is possible that the camera just quit working, but everything that i can see and read about lead me to believe it is a pattern failure with the wiring). The camera not working reduces my ability to see behind me for any potential collision issues when iā€™m backing up. I have searched for similar issues that other honda ridgeline owners might have reported, and i have found several reports, and also posted videoā€™s on how to fix this issue with replacing the wiring harness (and the wires in the harness). On my ridgeline, this failure happened about 4 or 5 months after the warranty of 3 years ran out. Other reports that iā€™ve viewed in various forums report similar timeframes, and yet some reported this issue occurring while it was still under warranty. I am currently in contact with honda to see if they will assist in the cost for this repair, but that is still being discussed. There was no warning that this issue was about to occur. It simply quit working one day (late april of 2021). I hope youā€™re able to investigate and see that this might well be a pattern failure with the wiring on these vehicles and perhapstake action to help eliminate any backup safety issues that this might create.
The tailgate wiring harness is damaged by routine opening of the tailgate. This causes the wires to be severed, causing failure of the backup camera and other electrical systems in the tailgate. On sunday january 20th i was heading to montreal from toronto during a snow storm. About 2 hrs into the trip, someone cut in front of me , and i attempted to sound the horn, however it appeared it had frozen up, and barely worked. Along with a horrible exhaust vibration during the last 3 hours of my 6 hour trip.it appears that honda isn't ready for winter as thry claim with their crv ad at thier winter testing facitly.... This is a major safety issue not having a warning device during a snow storm, along with the accumulation of snow sticking under the vehicle causing a terrible exhaust noise.
Several of these models are having issues with the routine and design of the power supply and signal from the backup camera due to breaking of the wiring harness.my camera stopped working after opening the tailgate in below freezing weather.i noticed a broken wire in the harness.i checked the honda ridgeline forum and many owners are experiencing the same problem.i ordered the oem replacement part and it now is working.i trying to get honda to refund my parts cost of $68.25.not including labor of tailgate panel removal along with rear bumper cover.my honda case numbers are 11916318 and 11967005,
My complaint for my 2018 honda ridgeline sport is with honda's part number 32109-t6z-a00 which is a wiring harness leading into the tailgate of the vehicle.this harness houses a wiring bundle including the back up camera.i experienced a failure of the camera on august 9, 2021 when the screen was black however the guide bars were still present.i consulted a few online resources and found that honda is collecting information on this failure where the wire of the camera becomes sheered off and in the process breaks the wire to the camera rendering it blank.i contacted a honda dealership to get a new harness and and had the repair made on august 31, 2021 only to find that honda only authorized the same defective part number as the replacement.the 2020 and later models have a different part number with no reported issues, but because my vehicle is a 2018, they installed the same defective harness.the design of the tailgate has not changed since 2017. The back up camera is a vital safety component on my vehicle.i am at a complete loss as to why honda would replace a faulty part with the same faulty part, other than as a way of charging $360 to get another repair.
Reverse camera failure caused by broken wire in a faulty designed tailgate harness. 40.5k miles.
Wiring harness to backup camera severed do to tail gate pinching when it is opened opened and closed eliminating camera function. This happened after 33 months of ownership at 33k miles. Dealer has agreed to repair under warranty but is not prepared to do so expeditiously.
All the windows roll down on their own.sometimes when unlocking the door, and sometimes when exiting the vehicle.never when the car is running.
Back up camera inoperable related to failure of wiring harness to tailgate. Stress point in harness severs electrical connection leading to no image from camera. This initially occurred while backing boat trailer down access ramp at nobleboro, maine public boat launch. Heavily tinted rear window in this vehicle increases driver dependence on back up camera for avoiding accidents. Bought vehicle new for $42,000.00. Camera fail at 43,000 miles of light use. This recurrent safety issue is well documented on the internet at https://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/threads/2017-2018-broken-tailgate-harness-causes-backup-camera-failure.217776/page-9
The wiring harness (honda part #32109-t6z-aoo) between the lift gate and the truck bed for the backup camera is subject to premature failure. My 2018 ridgeline backup camera quit, and when i did research on the ridgeline blogs, i found this is a very common problem. The harness itself is surprisingly wimpy for a honda product. I had mine replaced by my honda dealer, but my guess is virtually every ridgeline will experience this failure eventually. I've tried to attach photos of the harness, as well as the email i received from honda customer service.
Two way tailgate back up camera wiring broke after only 7000 miles due to poor design, per liahonda representative.this wire harness supplies back up camera viewing. After 7000 miles i was unable to see what was behind vehicle when backing up. Wires broke due to under engineered harness material. As tailgate can be open in 2 way, up/down and as a swinging out door, harness is not strong enough to endure sure repetitive motion. Dealer informed me that they are seeing many harnesses being replaced and there is now a back order of replacement harnesses. The newly installed harness is the same part number as new. It was and is not an updated camera wire harness. In conclusion this harness will also fail in the future.

Rear camera failure due to wiring harness sever at tailgate pivot point.
The contact owns a 2018 honda ridgeline. The contact stated that the safety system feature that detects surrounding vehicles did not function. In addition, the contact stated that the brakes did not activate in order to avoid a crash when the vehicle was too close to the vehicle in front. The contact also stated that when veering off the lane, the system did not alert the driver. The vehicle was taken to ocean honda dealer (8442 us-19, port richey, fl 34668, (727) 312-0759) and the courtesy palm harbor honda (31200 us hwy 19 n, palm harbor, fl 34684) where it was diagnosed that the radar sub-assembly (part number: 36802t6za01) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and confirmed that the parts for the repair were on backorder. The contact was provided with case number: 06603727 from the manufacturer however no further assistance was provided. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 3,700.
Hands free calling, microphone not working.picks up background noise so person on other end can't hear.
Back up camera wiring harness placed in spot that inevitable damage will occur that breaks wiring for back camera to be visible.tailgate opening two different ways, places the wiring against a metal border, damaging plastic harness.camera goes completely black, then stops working.honda denies any recalls even with multiple complaints of owners from 2017 models to 2020.when vehicle is placed in reverse there is no visible camera to be seen.
Water leak from moonroof and or windshield will short out blind spot monitor sensors and cause warning light in the dash to appear 'blind spot monitor system problem'
On 06/05/20, 15:37i fueled my ridgeline at raceway # 6953 in alachua, fl 32616, pump 1. When it came time to remove the fuel pump nozzle from the capless fill spout, it would not come out! i tried for a few minutes to no avail when the young guy who was at the next pump was observing my situation. He came over and tried with no luck to remove it. Fortunately he had a flathead screwdriver with him. It took him a few minutes of prying the cap at the mouth of the fill spout upwards also turning the fuel pump nozzle side to side. We finally turned the fuel pump nozzle 180 degrees and were able to free the pump nozzle from the fill spout on the honda. This was not a good situation to be in nor was it safe to be prying with a screwdriver on the metal fill spout cover at themouth of a full tank of gas! i would appreciate that honda will provide me and other owners with a fix for fueling our trucks, so that this does not ever happen again. Obviously the truck was stationary as you requested to be stated with this complaint.my guess, their was/is a problem with the fill spout cap and the spring on the fuel pump nozzle.it seems like there is a miscalculation by honda or the fuel pump mfg. Or bothregards,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Ice build-up in fuel fill neck causing inability to refuel.ice forms on flap inside fill neck preventing introduction of fuel fill nozzle.
In freezing weather i am unable to refuel my 2018 ridgeline because the fuel nozzle will not insert into the filler neck due to ice build up in the cap-less fuel shutter in the filler neck. I have contacted american honda and my local authorized dealership for repairs. Honda has refused to make repairs on this vehicle. This occurs anytime there is moisture in the cap-less fuel filler apparently because the fuel door does not keep moisture and water out. There is no way of knowing when moisture or water is present until it is time to refuel and the cap-less fuel cap is frozen shut. Even with a t.s.b. Written by american honda and recognized by the n.h.t.s.a. Honda has refused repair and dealership has refused to provide printed documentation of this problem. Without indoor (garage) storage how are we supposed to melt ice build-up in the fuel filler neck? honda ridgeline owners need relief from american honda.
Water gets in between the first and second flap of the capless fuel filler neck and freezes.this happens when it is raining and the temperature drops below freezing.if the temperature is above freezing the water just sits between the two flaps.i don't know when (stationary, in motion, turning etc) it is getting in there.it happens when it is raining.
During acceleration vehicle loses power for several seconds.intermittent failure while merging onto high-speed highway.
Capless fuel filler defect.water gets in chamber and in freezing temperatures, drainage holes get plugged with ice and subsequent water enters, builds up, creates blockage and prevents flap from opening and vehicle cannot be gassed up. Not being able to put gas in vehicle and being stranded in sub-freezing temps is dangerous to say the least.read more description of the problem at ridgeline owner's group forum:http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/185-2g-problems-fixes-tsb-s/157474-gas-filler-neck-locked-frozen-water-inside-23.html
The capless gas fill system allows water to get in the fill neck. The water can then freeze and make it difficult or impossible to put a fuel nozzle into the vehicle. The only way to temporarily correct the issue is to melt the ice.
In the winter water gets into the fuel filler neck causing the car unable to be filled cannot put the nozzle in recommend put a seal on the inside of the door so the door will seal and water won't enter between the cover
Water enters between the two flaps on the capless fuel filler.if temperatures are below freezing the outer flap will freeze.happens when it is raining or going through a car wash.you can sit there and push in the outer flap and see water streaming out of it.
Water is entering the area between the inner and outer flaps on the fuel filler neck and freezing. Fueling can not be performed until the ice is removed. Water entering this area will also cause fuel contamination in warm months with engine failure.
Water gets in fuel filler cap (outer hinge) and freezes.ice dam in the fuel filler area prevents fuel hinge from being opened, which prevents vehicle from being fueled.vehicle was stationary when i discovered the problem (parked next to the fuel pumps).has happened on two separate occasions.
Water collects behind capless fuel filler flapper and in cold temperatures, an ice plug forms behind flapper. Ice plug prevents opening flapper to insert gas nozzle and and inability to refuel vehicle.

The contact owns a 2018 honda ridgeline. While driving 55 mph, the hood raised approximately two inches. The contact pulled over and checked the hood to assure it was latched properly. The dealer (lodi honda, 1700 s cherokee ln, lodi, ca 95240) informed the contact that honda would have to look into the matter. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 1,165.
Just out of the blue , my 2018 ridgeline rtl-e , the engine is revving between 4th and 5th gear. I have driven this for a year with no issues. Now, 19,000 miles in and it like revs to 3000 rpm and then grabs 5th gear. It actually pulls you forward when it does. A little scary.i will contact gary smith honda in fwb florida tomorrow to see what is happening.i have researched and yes others have had this same issue. A lot of others.shouldn't this be noted in a honda log somewhere?i hope they can fix this.
I had a trans lite on the dash and overheating issues in the (6 speed) transmission at about 61000 miles. The issue started with a juddering vibration that was reported to the dealer at 39000 miles. Then i noticed increased vibration from the torque converter(juddering) up until the transindicated a code for the clutches not locking up, which causes overheating. I nursed this until i took it to manchester honda for repair. They said if this is a juddering problem, it would be covered under the warrenty until 80k miles. They changed the fluid and did a software update. This update changed the shift points where the lack of lockup became worse. I also noticed the gas mileage went down about 25%.it was so bad that the trans light went on again the next day after the repair. They claimed that with the fluid change and software update, that everything was ok. During this debacle, i called honda customer service several times and got no help. They insisted that this truck does not qualify for the tsb issued for the 17's and earlier. This overheating issue has been documented on the owners forum for all the earlier models as well as the 2018's and 2019's. Now with the trans nearly non-functional, i took the truck to liberty honda where they told me the torque converter needs replacement. I knew that the converter failed, but they refused to cover anything under warranty. Can you help with this situation please?
Whenever i drive the vehicle, my left foot goes numb after driving for only 5-15 minutes.my left foot and leg are very painful for the balance of the day anytime i drive the ridgeline.(i am of average height and weight.)i have reached out to the honda dealership and american honda (see correspondence) and they have not been helpful.i believe the problem is with the driver's seat, but it could also be in the floorboard of the vehicle.i stopped driving it for 2 weeks, and all my leg issues went away.when i resumed driving, the problems reoccurred.it happens every time i drive the ridgeline.i purchased the vehicle brand new at maita honda in citrus heights ca on 12-31-18.
On june 13, 2019, i hit a rock in a parking lot in the front of the vehicle.later took to a body shop when radar sensor lights came on.was told it was the misallignment of the radar sensor unit caused by the rock collision.body shop says they recalibrated, but the warning lights still randomly come on.counldn't get an apt. With the dealership to look again, for the third time, until mid sept.decided rather than risk a false positive breaking system error caused by the malfunctioning radar sensor, to turn it off.i'm heading out on a trip over 6 mountain passes and am not pleased that i have to do this and feel this defect and lack of resolution for 3 months could affect my safety.
Vehicle requires foot on brake for starting. Upon applying starter button the brake pedal goes down alarming amount if vehicle has been sitting for 30 days as we are experiencing the quarantine. Two trips to the dealer have not provided any satisfactory explanation for my problem.

Fuel filler neck freezes in cold weather. Honda replaced the entire part once but it did not fix the problem. I cannot fill up in cold weather because of the freezing.

Backup camera quit working. Inspection of wiring harness going to tailgate shows wire loom disintegrated, wires broken. Consulted honda ridgeline forum, found this thread with 10 pages, 192 posts from 71 participants: https://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/threads/2017-2018-broken-tailgate-harness-causes-backup-camera-failure.217776/truck has only 50,000 miles on it.photo attached is left side of tailgate hinge where wire loom enters tailgate.

The vehicle exhibits an unexpected delay in acceleration from a stop.this delay seems to be unpredictable and not due to any particular pedal movement.at times, when moving from a stop at an intersection, after moving into a lane of traffic, the delay can suddenlyhappen, and can be as much as 3 to 4 seconds.at this point, the vehicle is "dead in the water" so to speak.the engine is at idle and will not accelerate, and the vehicle will not move.hence, the vehicle cannot be moved out of the way of oncoming traffic until the delay period is over.pressing the accelerator does no good in this period of time, and, if holding the accelerator partially pressed when the delay period is over, the vehicle suddenly lurches forward more quickly than the driver would normally wish.i am concerned that this delay and the ensuing "dead in the water" situation will eventually cause an accident.i have talked with a dealer service manager, and his answer was that it was due to the "drive by wire" system that controls the throttle, and there is nothing they can do.this incident form requires a date for when this happened. It happens frequently.i bought the truck in january 2020, and it has happened every time i drive it.i'll give a date for the record, but it is only one of many.
Uncommanded acceleration of up to 5 mph after setting cruise control.will occur intermittently at both low and high speed.
