Takata recall

The contact owns a 1999 honda passport.while driving approximately 55 mph in the snow, the contact lost control of the vehicle.the rear end slid to the left and the vehicle struck the culvert, went into the air, and landed in the ditch front first.the driver sustained injuries.the passenger side air bag deployed and the driver side air bag began to open, but never fully deployed.the current and failure mileages were 140,247.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 45mph. Upon impact, air bag did not deploy, causing minor injury to driver.vehicle is at thebodyshop at this time.

Consumer's vehicle was rearended by another vehicle going about 30 mph, and passenger side/driver's side airbags did not deploy.the impact of accident caused driver's side seat to break.

Car seat cannot be be installed properly in the center position in the rear seat of the vehicle due to the design of the 60/40 rear seats.

Dt*: the contact stated the gas gauge stopped operating. The service dealer was contacted, who expressed that there were other vehicleowners with the same problem.there were no repairs made.

My suv honda passport fuel gauge is not working due to bad float chamber on the pump component has manufacturing defect.

This is the third honda i have owned, but the only one with problems.the first two had over 300,000 miles combined....no problems.this really isn't even a honda, it is an isuzu.when i purchased the car, i was told that all parts inside and out were made by honda and that isuzu supplied only the seatbelts and the actual car frame.i have had the a/c blower replaced two times, the first time was under warranty.after the first replacement, the cd player stopped working and then the car started experiencing electrical problems.when i turned on the blinker, the a/c went out along with the auto transm.spent over $150 plus cost of rental car and honda said the probl. Was with the trailer hitch.i did not pay for repair...they wanted over $600...however, when the car was given back, mysteriously the cd player begain working and so did the a/c...checked and they replaced the blower (although they said they didn't do anything) as soon as i picked up the car...no more problems during that time.a year later (no longer under warranty) the a/c blower works intermittenly, the transmission today just started to manually shift itself from 2 to 3rd gear and makes a hard clunking sound.a few months ago, it was shifting itself from drive to neutral or low and then back to drive.also, the fuel sending unit is inoperable...the tank registers empty and the light flashes constantly.heard this is a known problem for isuzu rodeos and passports.i even work with someone who has a 99 rodeo and has the same problems, but his fuel sending unit went out while he was under warranty.the honda dealer down here wants over $600 for repair.i feel mislead.i purchased honda due to success on my other two hondas.i could have saved over $10,000 and purchased an isuzu rodeo, but i thought by purchasing a honda, i was getting a reliable suv.i will never purchase another honda/isuzu again...i have gotten no support from the honda dealers.too many problems with this model!

The fuse for the electric door locks blows on an intermittent basis (usually within 4-30 days).the failure disables the electric door locks as well as the vehicle alarm system, keyless entry system and "alarm panic button" feature.vehicle is driven by a female (my wife).keyless/alarm were mandatory safety features that we required for vehicle purchase (standard equipment on this model).vehicle has been in 7 times for this problem.honda has been unable to repair.honda has replaced master door lock switch and found/repaired a wiring harness defect.problem continues uncorrected (keyless and alarm system are therefore not reliable).honda has added 12 or more additional fuses to the vehicle this has not corrected the problem.

This is the 2nd time in less than 6 months that the flywheel has separated, with center part staying attached to motor. I was fortunate enough to be able to get off the road before being hit by another vehicle. The center part of the flywheel is staying attached to the engine; while the outer part is separating. All teeth on the flywheel are still intact. Therefore i have two parts, one circling the other. Engine stops dead immediately when they separate.this is a $300 or more part. It was just replaced less than 3 months ago and now it has done it again. There is no listed recall.this is a major safety concern, especially since the everything stops when this separation occurs. Had to push vehicle off road both times. Feel i'm lucky to be alive. Who do i need to contact regarding this?

The contact owns a 1999 honda passport. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated that the rear suspension lower link bracket was fractured due to excessive corrosion. In addition, the mechanic stated that the vehicle was not repairable because the frame was also corroded and the bracket could not be welded back onto the frame. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 10v436000 (suspension) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 154,000. ..updated 04/18/13 the consumer stated he finally found a frame restoration shop. They cut out all of the rusted frame areas on the rear driver side and made a new end for the lower link bracket. The consumer also stated the catalytic converter became clogged and ruined the engine. The front axles were replaced twice. The vehicle had an oil leak and transmission leak. Updated 04/23/13

Well in july 2012 i was driving my honda when i heard noise (sounded like a muffler leak) hit a small dip in the road then a pop and then loud noise coming from engine. I took it immediately to the repair shop and they said the catalytic converter had blown a hole in it self. They said they had never seen anything like it. Well here it is january 2013 and just last week the other side (my car has two converters, lucky me) did the exact same thing. This is just the weirdest thing ever and so very expensive to fix. Is this normal? i don't think so and no one can give me an explanation on why this is happening. I need some help please.

Vehicle stalled without warning.i had vehicle towed to dealer.the dealer informed me that they were not sure what was wrong, but they believed the engine needed to be replaced.

Two problems.one is that the engine started knocking.started out light and at only when the engine reached over 2000 rpm.called taylor honda service as soon as the noise started and they told me the first they could look at it was one week later.eventually, the knock became an obvious break of something in the engine.i stopped driving the vehicle and had it towed to dealership.this problem has occurred for numerous owners judging from internet reports.the dealer has not diagnosed the problem yet.i am expecting a catastrophic problem.the fuel gauge has also been registering empty for over two months.

The contact owns a 1999 honda passport. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate over 30 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The failure was located at the transmissionoil gasket. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 148,000...updated 07-17-13 the ball joints, exhaust, tie rod end, engine gaskets, sway bar links and timing belt all needed to be replaced.

I purchased a 99 honda passport from mazda of knoxville located in knoxville tn. The vehicle had 49000 mi. 3 days later it started making noise in the engine, and also the fuel gauge stopped working as well as the air conditioner. I called them back, they told me to bring it back to them. They kept it a week and a half. I picked it up and brought it home. They claimed to have done 3700 dollars worth of work to it to fix it. I returned home and 2 days later and had the oil changed, the people changing my oil asked me if the vehicle had been under water before, i said i didn? know. When i had the oil changed it started making noises again. I called them back and they said the noise was nothing to worry about, it is normal so this time they offered no help. Said it was my problem. I continued to drive the vehicle and now not only is it making noise but it isn?t running right. It will not idle sometimes and other times it will idle at 4000 rpm to the point it sounds like it is going to explode. It has died on me a number of times in busy intersections and is only getting worse.

Cooling fan broke and fell intoradiator. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

After a year of owning this vehicle, started stalling out even while driving (automatic trans).check engine light came on, and was told by dealer that the manifold gasket needs to be replaced.wants over $600 to do so.i can't afford it yet, so i'm dealing with the stalling until i can pay to have it fixed, but i'm wary of it because i've researched the problem and found the defect is repetitive in this vehicle.

Intake manifold gasket leaked causing engine to shut off while driving, especially when braking. Intake manifold gaskets were replaced by dealership.

The engine coughed and choked, and the vehicle stalled.i at first thought it wasn't warmed up enough before i started driving it, so i warmed it up in the morning for about 5 min.the problem didn't occur for a short while, then came back.i brought it to a honda dealership.they tested it and advised me that the head cylinder gasket was blown, causing coolant to leak into the combustion chamber.also one cylinder head is cracked and had to be replaced.the other cylinder head had to be machined.it took about a month to get it fixed.i found it very unusual that a major engine work had to be done with less than 60,000 miles.*la

While driving between 15 to 20 mph vehicle stalled.consumerpulled off the road. Vehiclewas towed to the dealer. Dealershiptechnician determined engine needed to b ereplaced.

Vehicle stalled without warning.i had vehicle towed to dealer.the dealer informed me that they were not sure what was wrong, but they believed the engine needed to be replaced.

While driving 80 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. When the consumer pulled over, he noticed all the fluids were pouring out of the vehicle, transmission fluid, oil, radiator etc. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the consumer was told the vehicle needed a new engine.

The engine consumed an excessive amount of oil, the manufacturer stated it was normal.

This car burns oil at a very fast rate, with no sign of leaks, etc.took to dealer and they can't find source.i have to check oil level and usually replace each week - i drive about 150 miles weekly.seems very excessive to me, especially w/ no suggestion on how to fix.

Immediately after having an oil change the vehicle registered low oil level. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the discontinuedengine was the cause.*nlm *nlm

While driving my 1999 honda passport, the vehicle turned off and i pulled over to the side of the road.i had the vehicle towed to grand honda in elmhurst illinois on november 10, 2003.the vehicle remained at the dealer for several weeks and then was toldthat they did not know what was wrong with the vehicle but they thought the engine needed to be replaced.i asked what happened to the engine and they said they were unsure, but thought that i needed to have mine replaced.i agreed and they later told me they were not able to find a reasonably priced engine and that it would be cheaper for me to take my suv somewhere else.i contacted honda corporate and was told the same.honda did not stand behind their vehicle.the honda dealer told me to have my vehicle picked up.i arranged for a tow truck to pick up my vehicle and deliver it to my home.when the vehicle arrived at my home honda had not even put the vehicle back together.i paid them $290 to tell me that they could not repair my vehicle.i contacted both the dealer and the corporate office and was told that the $290 was only to take the vehicle apart not put it back together.i believe that my engine is defective.

Engine had been consuming oil, was told 1 qt./1000 mi. Is standard.at 54,000 miles engine eventually consumed 5-6 quarts in 3000 miles and failed - number 1 & 2 rods and bearings shot.honda refuses to acknowledge any problem with oil consumption and blames failure on oil deprivation (lack of maintenance) even though oil change receipts and witnesses to last 3000 mi. Oil adds have been provided.will not buy another honda product, even if it is built by them! *nlm

Fuel system problem: fuel gauge frequently has begun to drop to a reading of zero when the car is not moving but running. The reserve light will blink and the fuel gauge will not show any fuel reading until the car begins moving again. It can take several minutes before a correct reading is shown. Intake manifold system failure: date and mileage is approximated, will locate records with exact date and mileage. Both left and right side intake manifold gaskets were reported as "cracked" by the dealer and replaced at a charge of $400 (not under warranty). Engine idled roughly and stalled prior to repair. Tsb from honda is available.

Fuel gauge had not given accurate reading for 5-6 months. Used honda repair facility's suggestion of gas tank cleaning to eliminate that possibility for cause of start failure. Within the same tank full of gas, car stalled and wouldn't restart. Repair facility finally determined ecu and fuel pump to be the cause. Seems this is a recurring issue with the vehicle, and only informed people search out forums like this to report the problem.

Vehicle stalled with no warning at times. Warning may come on& then the engine dies. This has happened 2-3 times.dealer askedconsumer to leave it overnight. Consumer has an appointment with the dealer & will add addtional information.the dealer could not fix the problem.

Consumer states the vehicle is consuming one quarter of oil every one thousands miles. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.mr

Consumer states that intermittenly when driving and decelerating to a complete stop, the vehicle will slow down, but once stops will "lurch" forward almost causing collisions with other cars.the dealer has not been able to determine the cause. Ts

Original problem was fuel sensor, followed by cylinders being replaced, unresolved whining noise, recall on rear suspension, and now recall on head impact protection.car has constantly been in shop since purchase, and we have serious concerns about the overall safety and durability of this model.local dealer has been extremely helpful in trying to resolve problems, but overall quality and safety issues have us seeking answers from you as to what steps we can take to have vehicle replaced by manufacturer.

The dealer stated that the engine seized up with no warning due to lack of oil although he was unable to find any signs of an external leaks, the consumer feels there is some type of engine malfunction.nlm

After just pulling onto the highway from my parents driveway, i heard a "knocking" sound coming from the engine compartment of my vehicle. At regular idle speeds this sound could not be heard. After checking the oil it was found to be 4.25 quarts low. The oil pressure warning light never came on and after adding oil back to the engine, the knocking sound still continues.the vehicle has been regularly maintained at service intervals well within the documented reccomendations of the manufacturer. The service has been completed at the dealership.i

Low oil pressure indicator came on.when i checked oil, 4 quarts low.vehicle had been driven 4000 miles since last oil change.contacted dealer who changed oil/filter and has initiated oil consumption test. No visible leaks.since monitoring, vehicle has consumed 1/2 quart oil in 400 miles.i am concerned about an engine defect.

Whenever gas is pumped intovehicle there is a smell of fuel vapors present in the passenger compartment for about 20 minutes. Dealer has seen vehicle several times. Dealer was unable to find the cause of the problem.

Abs system pump was continuously running with keys removed from ignition. Pump was extremely hot to the touch and had to be disabled by removing the abs system fuse. Abs system failure light came on and is still on. No problems with brake system prior to this failure. Car was serviced for exhaust pipe replacement 1 day prior to abs system failure.

Aftervehicle was service for recall02-i-002-001 on brake light switch, vehicle has been experiencing ongoing problems with the brake system. Consumer stated vehicle was running without warranty.

The contact owns a 1999 honda passport 4wd.the contact stated that the frame and its brackets were severely rusted.the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 81,000. Updated 12/12/11*ljthe consumer stated the rust went from the cross member, to the rear of the vehicle on the driver's side. . the abs light illuminated and the gas gauge never worked correctly.updated 06/13/12...

The fuel gauge failed, due to a faulty fuel sending unit.

I purchased a 99 honda passport from mazda of knoxville located in knoxville tn. Approx 6 mo after purchase fuel gauge stopped working.shows empty w/ blinking light at all times, and i must record mileage between fill-ups so i don't run out of gas.haven't repaired as research shows this will cost over $600 and usually fails again.obviously a manufacturer's problem - should be recalled.

The fuel gauge would read the wrong reading. This caused the consumer to think the vehicle had gas when it didn't. The cause was not determined.

When the passport was purchased in may of 2002, the fuel light intermittently blinked. The problem was diagnosed by honda cars of concord (nc) as a "fuel sending unit." estimated cost, including labor was $500. I decided to keep track of fuel by calculating the mileage because this "wasn't a warranty problem" because i bought it "pre-owned." that problem was minor compared to what came next. I noticed the transmission acting funny by skipping and revving hard. When i took it in for the dealership to check the transmission fluid, (because you can't do this yourself), they informed me that the transmission needed to be replaced. I couldn't believe it. This vehicle has just under 47,000 miles ! after further investigation, i see where scores of others have the identical problem around the same amount of miles. No recall ??? since the car is now valued at less than the payoff because of the transmission problem (negative equity) i am forced to pay for a vehicle that has a short life left and very little mileage. Please help me ! thank you, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

1999 honda passport - fuel gauge continually reads empty when gauge reaches about 1/2 tank.have driven for over 200 miles on empty with gas light on as i calculate mileage instead of relying on the gauge.seems to be numerous reports on this issue - would like to see investigation and/or recall.very frustrating as i like the car.this is becoming the norm versus the exception.at first the fuel light would never come on when the tank was nearing empty.now it stays on pretty much all of the time.when i stop for gas, i have yet to put more than 10 gallons in; thus, i've only used one-half tank!

Noticed that fuel gauge is not working properly because it went empty even though i have a tank full of gas. I did some internet research and found out that this is related to a defective 'fuel sending unit'. It affects honda passports and isuzu rodeo vehicles .

Braking system malfunctioned, causing extended stopping distance.in one case, braking system was inoperative andresulted ina crash.dealer saidoccupant'sfoot slippedoffbrake pedal and hit gas pedal.previously, took vehicle to dealer for brake repairs.the consumer had three brake failure incidents for which the dealer could not find the cause.during the fourth failure, the vehicle went out of control and crashed, causing damage.the dealer states that the consumer possibly stepped on both brake and accelerator at the same time. Abs light illuminated after accident.engine light illuminated due to manifold gasket leaking, dealer replaced it.

Noticed that fuel gauge is not working properly because it went empty even though i have a tank full of gas. I did some internet research and found out that this is related to a defective 'fuel sending unit'. It affects honda passports and isuzu rodeo vehicles . My suv honda passport fuel gauge is not working due to bad float chamber on the pump component has manufacturing defects. My fuel gauge has started fluctuating wildly. The most common thing though, is that it reads out of gas shortly after a fill up. This is the same model as an isuzu rodeo and the problems are duplicated there. I want to make sure a recall happens and that it covers the hondas as well.

Gas gauge on the car has malfunctioned. The problem has also occurred to 6 other people. The needle will always show empty with the low fuel light flashing.

Fuel gage stop working last year had new one put in . It has failed againfuel gage would register empty when tak as 3/4 full fuel light would come on. Took to deeler who said it was a faulty sending unit and they would have to replace the hole fuel sending unit inside the tank

Gas gauge is consistently reading empty - even when fuel tank is full.appears to be fuel sending unit mentioned on isuzu rodeo site as well.

Consumer noticed the fuel gauge always read empty.the consumer contacted the dealer about the problem and was told the problem could be fixed at the owners expense.the consumer felt this was a manufacturers defect and should not have to pay anything.please provide details. *ph

The fuel gauge does not work properly.reads empty at least 11 gallons before truly is empty.this is a manufacturer's defect.running out of gas is not safe as well as the harm it does to the vehicle. Many complaints from other consumers about the same problem.

Your technical service bulletin #202, of feb 16, 2002, explains a problem i have with my 1999 honda passport, where the fuel gauge reads an empty or low fuel warning, even when it is not in danger of being empty. The correction will cost in excess of $500.00. This is an outrageous condition and repair to require the owner to cover, when it is obvious it was a defect when manufactured. Please help to correct manufacturer over sights like this when selling a long-term item like a car or truck. I am very happy with my vehicle otherwise, and would hate to help blemish the reputation of honda and it's products. But this is unacceptable as a failure due to normal wear and tear.

Dt*: the contact stated the gas gauge stopped operating. The service dealer was contacted, who expressed that there were other vehicleowners with the same problem.there were no repairs made.

The fuel gauge reads empty on my vehicle even when the tank is completely full. This condition has existed for over 60,000 miles and i have not had it serviced because the dealer wants $700 for parts and labor and informed me that they will be using the exact same parts that might fail again.

Whenfuel gauge reads full the tanks fuel will drop to half rapidly. Cause of the failure is undetermined at this time.

When fuel gauge reads full fuel in gas tank will drop to half rapidly.

The abs light constantly comes on and off and the doors are not opening from the outside.there has been no accident or incident to cause these problems.

1999 honda passport jerks and makes grinding noises.*mrwhile accelerating, driving or stopping the vehicle would jerk and make a grinding noise.the vehicle was taken to the dealer but they couldn't find the cause of the problem.when the gears were changed the panel control lights indicated that the vehicle was shifted into low gear.the rear wipers failed and the dealer replaced the wiper/washer switch.the abs light illuminated.the dealer replaced the antilock pcm.*nlm

When accelerating from a complete stop, as soon as auto transmission shifts to 1st gear at 30 mph, i experience such a violent, hard jerk that it is actually seen by people in other vehicles.this jerk creates a loud mechanical noise also that can be heard by people not in the car with me.this same jerking is experienced when decreasing speed to come to a stop, at approximately 15 miles per hour when transmission is shifting down. This problem has just started, i only have 29600 miles vehicle.this problem does not happen every time i drive the vehicle.honda could not duplicate problem, therefore did nothing.it scares me, and my child because it is such a jolting violent movement.*la

My 1999 honda passport is continuing to have problems with the auto transmission. From a cold start the suv will intermittently shift hard into 2nd gear. I have taken to the power costa mesa honda dealer to have them diagnose 5 times. They had no way of diagnosing the problem as the suv would do this every once in a while. Finally, after one day of driving in traffic i found a way to duplicate the problem.i had placed it into 1st gear (low) the suv shifted into 2nd!i am no mechanic but i do know that it is not supposed to happen.i was driving in 2nd when all of a sudden it realized oh i need to be in 1st!so i took the suv back to have them diagnose the issue. They replaced a faa motor in the transmission. Part number: 8-96041-156-0, the part was 400 dollars and about 200 labor. The issue was fixed for a month now continues to have the problem but it will not shift from low to second. Now they want me to replace the range selector switch part number: 8-96017-511-0 for $147.32 (part only).*la

I have owned the 1999 honda passport for 3 years. At about 50,000 miles, the suv would shift hard form the lower gear to first. So hard if fact, that others in cars nearby noticed. Recently, the suv was having problems shifting during acceleration. At first it was slip, but quickly worsened. Upon accelerating from a stopped position or when shifting from a higher gear down (especially on turns) the gear seems to slip and there is a jolt. I took the suv to be diagnosed. On two separate occasions, it has taken several days for diagnosis. First diagnosis was the drive shaft, problem did not go away. Then it was the type of oil in the differential. Went away for a day, then returned. Finally, had the transmission rebuilt. Problem went away. I spent over $4000 on these repairs and believe that this is a significant issue with this vehicle.

Vehicle jerks & shifts hard at various speeds during gear changes.vehicle was taken to dealership 1 yr before the jerks became violent due to decrease in smoothness of gear changes. The dealer informed me that it was normal in the passport/isuzu & that it wouldn't get any worse. It has!

After vehichle cools down and i go to start the car and shift down to drive the transmission skips down to l gear and when i try to take it back up to the d position it will take that gear but when i take off the car knocks really hard when it tries to shift gears and when i slow down to stop and it tries to shift down it also does a hard knocking.

Car starts when shifter changes from parkto drive while stepping on brake.

In my second year of owning my 1999 honda passport, i began to experience a jarring jolt when taking off from a stop imtermittantly. Now, about a year later, this has grown to a violent banging jolt when accelerating, and a full slipping between gears as i proceed. This grew worse very fast, and now i need to replace the transmission, at a cost of over $4,000.00, according to bell road honda in phoenix. I'm at a loss, and need help.

Auto transmission makes hard knocking sound on shifting that makes the car jerk and shutter.it's so violent that people in other cars notice and passengers in my car get scared.this started at 50,000 miles, has been in two shops, for almost 15 days and has not been repaired.the problem is intermittent and cannot always be duplicated at the shop. *nlm

This passport have been having (automatic) transmission problems at around 15 to 20 miles and at 25 to 30 miles.the mileage on this car now is about 50,200 miles.when i take to the dealer the problem is gone and they cannot diagnose the problem.the gears slams or jerks when it shifts and it also does when you slow down.the problem does not happen on higher gears. I have serviced the transmission and also put a new battery since the dealer said this might be the problem...but...the problem is still there.does this problem happens to all 1999 passports? and if so whatis the remedy..thank you, orlando r ayala .

We have had the vehicle four times for the same reason, at certain times while driving when the car is shifting into the different gears it jerks extremely hard onaccelerating and decelerating.they have found codes in the transmission and clearedthem a few times andthe last time they replaced the computer module in the transmission.the problem still exists.

When slowing down, the automatic transmission shifted into neutral, made a loud noise and vibrated.the vehicle was taken to two honda dealers, who stated they did not work ontransmissions. Vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic.the transmission was rebuilt, and two days later the same problem occurred.the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of failure.

Abs system has been a problem since we bought this truck.the last time it was in the repair shop at honda dealer it was for the recall of 7/2003 regarding the changing of the abs system after the work was done we had the abs light coming on and the brakes engaging on dry payment.now they tell us that the wire harness under the truck is broken and making the abs system come on .thjis repair will cost close to 300.00 dollars to fix.the service man at the dealership told us that it was broken because of the way it was designed .since we have owned this truck it has been into the honda dealshipper a total of 8 times in regards to the abs system.we have also had the whole horn/airbag system replaced (under the goodwill warrenty) and after that had to have the fuel pump assembly replaced which we had to pay over 300.00 dollars for at 38253miles just over warrenty.

My 1999 honda passport's abs light remains illuminated after it's self diagnostic test. I have taken it to the dealer who indicated that diagnostic codes require the main abs computer module to be replaced. When the light is lit, the abs system is inoperative. This is a safety hazard. The light occaisionally does go off after self diagonostics, about 2% of the time. Honda claims there is no recall on this vehicle, even though isuzu indicates that their rodeo, which is the same vehicle and model year does have a voluntary recall in place for faulty abs module, which althouhg it appears unrelated to this problem, would also solve this problem as the abs module is replaced in this safety campaign.

1999 honda passport developed problems with the brake system.*mrthe consumer received the recall notice a year after it was originally issued ant took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs.although the abs recall was completed the vehicle continued to have brake problems.while braking the consumer heard noise and the brake pedal went down to the floor.the vehicle was taken to another dealer who determined that he front and rear rotorsand pads needed to be replaced.

After a major service maintenance schedule performed by moses honda, 6018 u.s. 60 rt. East ofbarboursville, i noticeda severe depletion of brake pedal on my 1999 honda passportwhile stopped at a traffic light.i immediately tookthe vehicle to moses auto service and explained what was happening. The service manager had a technicianto inspect the vehicle and subsequently added brake fluid.the service manager explained more attention would be available on my next service date. After my nextservice date no mentionof the brake problem was addressed.on november 23, 2004i was traveling weston rt. 60 and passed through a traffic light at exit 15 i-64 and was confronted by a gray van suddenly stopped.i immediately thrust my foot on my brakes, to noavail.i subsequently collided with the vehicle in frontof me. It was a horrifying experiencewith the operation of the airbags, smoke and noise.there was a cabell county deputy sheriff near the scene who did the reporting and investigation.later that same day i once againpassed through the accident scene and discovered no tire skid marks.this has aroused my suspicion about the brakes.the vehicle is stored at paul's garage. 6141 childers rd. Barboursville, wv ph.304-736-4531.i would like for your office to investigate this vehicle for brake failure before repairs begin.thank you, james h. Parsons

I have experienced multiple failures of the abs system since purchase.the problem was intermitnt and generally at speeds of less than 20 mph on dry roads.i would estimate no fewer than 25 failures in two years wherein the brakes fail to engage properly at low speed causing the vehicle stopping distance to be excessive.when braking, the brakes often failed to engage particularly at rough intersections.it feels as if the vehicle slides over the bumps.now the abs light came on and remains lit.the abs unit itself runs even with the motor off.i have removed the fuse and disengaged the abs which allows the vehicle to operate safely although there is no abs active.with the abs disengaged, i have had no additional problems.i believe this is a very dangerous and common safety defect with the 1999 passport.there are a significant number of similar complaints to nhtsa and on the web which indicate this to be a manufacturer defect.i understand that this defect is currently under investigation and i would recommend fast-track recall action to avoid accidents related to this defect.

My abs brakes failed when i was pulling up to a red light in the rain causing me to rear-end another driver.the approximate speed was less than 20 mph, and my passport pulled to the right as i was stepping on the brake.the check engine light came on blinking prior to impact after i had stepped on the brake, and went solid after i hit the other driver.i took the car into the honda dealership who has been servicing my vehicles for over 4 years.they have determined that the check engine light was not related to the accident, and was caused by the master cylinder resetting itself.they find no issue with the brake system, and say there isn't a defect.however, i was driving home from the accident and the brakes failed to engage 2 more times with a pull to the right.both times were on wet roads in drizzle conditions when the vehicle was going less than 20 miles per hour.this occured again, same weather conditions on 1 november, again with the car going less than 20 mph and again pulling to the right.this situation cannot be reproduced when the weather conditions are dry, and sometimes cannot be reproduced in the rain either.in the accident of 27 october, the bumper of the passport was damaged more on the front right than on the left.which supports the stick and slide that i have felt each time the brakes fail to engage.i would like to know if anyone else has had this problem, and if so, what can i do to fix it?i don't feel safe or trust my car anymore while driving.

My 1999 honda passport has a rear stabilizer bar holding the wheel in place that is welded onto the frame.the stabilizer bar has rusted off the frame (or "ripped" off the frame while i was driving), causing the wheel to become loose.this vehicle swerved all over the road until i got it stopped.the vehicle is un-drivable and was towed away.there were no warning signs of this going bad.i am still unsure what the fix would be, as it is the frame that is bad.

My local las vegas honda dealership inspected my vehicle for a recall related to: the forward mounting point bracket for the left or right rear suspension lower link may experience excessive corrosion.the honda dealership replaced no parts, and simply treated the area with an anti-corrosive compound.three weeks later, my auto mechanic told me the vehicle is unsafe for driving due to the frame having rotted away entirely in places.he was able to poke holes in the remaining frame with his finger because the steel was rusted through so badly.my mechanic indicated that i should have the vehicle towed to the junkyard immediately.however, the engine, drive train, interior, and body are all in good or excellent condition.this is clearly defective and/or inferior the frame materials used by honda.my dealership sent me on the highway with a clearly unsafe vehicle!

Last year i noticed rust that had become a gaping hole in the upper part of my honda passport's upper frame. Then i noticed there were rust locations at various parts of the roof and rear. This car has been driven solely on oahu, so there is no issue of deicer or road salt having caused this, and i live miles from the ocean.the gaping hole is growing and this problem may be a safety hazard and it makes the car impossible to sell, which is something i'd intended to do soon, as my girlfriend will also start driving "our" vehicle and she's uncomfortable with a larger car. I looked online and found that a number of sites have noted that the honda passport and the isuzu rodeo (both the same car from the same plant in indiana) have special problems with rusty frames, but i thought i should report mine, too.

The frame is rusted out on the drivers side all the way back to where the control arm and body mounts mount to the frame.i am not driving the vehicle now as it is not safe to drive and is undriveable.the last time i drove the vehicle it began to shake, traveling at approximately 50 mph and approximately 10 miles to my destination (home).i slowed the vehicle down to approximately35 to 40 mph (on the freeway) and put on my hazard lights on and drove it still shaking but somewhat controllable at this point.approximately 1.5 miles from home, i stopped at a stop sign, upon acceleration from a complete stop i hear a very loud clunk from the rearend and the vehicle is shaking again at approximately 5 mph.i drove home and looked underneath and see that the control arm is almost detached from the frame.i have had several mechanics and a frame repairers look at it and the mechanic said not to drive it and the frame repairer said 1600.00 to 2000.00 to fix it (basically replacing the entire frame rail on the driver side and part on the other side of the vehicle as it is starting to rust now as well).the vehicle went to the frame repairer for an estimate on may 13, 2010 but has not been driven since the incident on march 5, 2010.

My frame rotted out on the rear drivers side trailing arm linkage, breaking free while driving. Was able to control the vehicle until i got into a parking lot. Towed the vehicle to my family's garage and took a look at the damage, excessive amounts of frame were missing. Put in some patches in about a two to three foot area on the frame.fast forward 2 years, received a notice of the trailing arm rust problem from honda. Called honda because this isn't a trailing arm issue, it is a frame issue. I got a special case number, bring it down to the dealership. Two days later they call and say everything is all set and looks good. I get the vehicle back and check it out. They sprayed some black stuff that doesn't dry onto the trailing arm linkage, they didn't even cover the area of frame that was welded in, just the linkage. Wouldn't even acknowledge that the frame had rotted out and was welded. This is a frame rot issue not a trailing arm weld breaking. The frame was improperly coated, and rots on the entire back half of the car.

The problem with 1999 honda passport vehicle is due entirely to faulty materials selection and/or workmanship on honda's part. Honda made an unreasonable, unfair offer to buy the car back, and outrageous to expect me and my family to suffer a financial burden due to a materials and workmanship problem caused by honda which is non of my fault at all. Honda acknowledges to fix this issue but has failed to fix and does not compensate fairly for replacement vehicle or even down payment on a similar performing vehicle.*ln

The rear left shock has completely rotted off. The frame in the rear is rotted where the mount for the shock meets the frame. This is causing swaying and multiple shock replacement on drivers side.

I have had the same problem as all the other honda passport/rodeo owners with my rear suspension linkage.i am a college student and extremely upset for i put all my money into this vehicle to have a reliable truck at school.now i am up a creek, with the possibility of losing 2 jobs due to the fact i have no truck.my linkage rusted off at the bracket with the rest of the rotting frame on the front side (closest to the engine) of the axle chassis connecting bar.i didn't get into an accident due to the fat i diagnosed there was a major problem before anything bad happened.but no it is unsafe to drive and i have no transportation. This is my 1999 honda passport.

The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

My daughter was driving the car when the frame broke.the frame is so rusted that it broke from the car.serious safety risk for us.i have owned this car since it was brand new and have taken care of it.the car is totaled.luckily no one was hurt but had it happened when it was going fast it could have killed the occupants.no frame of a car should rust like that and break.i googled and apparently this is happening to a lot of these models.something needs to be done asap as people will die from the defect.reports say that the cars were built will subpar metals and that is why they are rusting before their time.

On turnpike, car was going out of control. Approx. 3 mi off pike, got home, went over small speed bump heard loud noise under auto. Saw that frame broke in half. Driving approx 45 miles per hr. Passport suddenly pulled us into the left lane.we were able to get back into correct lane and pull vehicle over.drove directly to our mechanic at approx 20 miles per hr. For about 2 miles. He looked under the vehicle and said trailing head was broke from frame and frame was rusted. The vehicle is sitting in my drive unable to drive. Both sides are broke at trailing head and rusted so bad you can push and break a hole in the frame. The frameis the only rust on the vehicle. We were lucky there was no traffic coming towards us and that we were not going very fast.there was no prior notice, all of a sudden the car veered left into the other lane and it was hard to get itcontrolled and into the correct lane and pulled over.

Our 1999 honda passport has 81,168 miles on it and from outward appearances, looks great. However, last week, my daughter, almost lost control while driving in town. The local repair shop says the frame is rusted through and the drivers side rear stabilizer is barely attached. My son, in disbelief, went to the repair shop and looked for himself andconfirmed the condition.there is not enough good metal left on the frame to make repair welds. The car is unsafe to drive and we are being told it should be salvaged for parts!thank god the car wasn't being driven at a higher rate of speed where an accident may very well could've happened!!! on august 9,2010 i am towing it to the honda dealer where it was purchased to get their evaluation.

My 1999 honda passport was in need of a inspection sticker. I proceeded to the service station for my sticker when the right rear shock separated from the frame and was dragging on the road.i returned home and inspected the frame which was rusted and falling apart.the top coil spring mounts were pushed up against the body. The rear wheel stabilizer hangers are ready to let go.i called repair shops and was told these vehicles are not repairable because you can't weld on top of rust.my honda now sits in my yard. It is drivable but would be a hazard to my life and safety as well as others.

I bought this 1999 honda passport from a friend knowing it had some frame repair that was needed which i had done at a cost of $800. Recently(1 week ago) the vehicle was hit on the rear bumper. Upon taking it to a repair shop i was informed that the rear portion of he frame was severely rusted perhaps beyond the point of repair short of having the entire frame repaired. The rest of the vehicle is in good shape and seems to me that this rust problem is way out proportion to the age, mileage(100k) and shape of the rest of the vehicle and othervehicles of like characteristics. Honda must know that this a manufacturers design/construction issue and should be responsible for whatever it might take to effectuate a reaper of the problem.

I had my vehicle inspected during a routine oil change. The mechanics showed me extensive corrosion on the frame of my vehicle. They said it was unsafe to drive. After doing research online i found out a recall for a suspension bracket expired. But i also found out several other owners had extensive corrosion and honda was working with them on the frame corrosion which was identified during the recall but was not part of the recall. I called honda and the dealership and they said since the recall expired they would not do anything. Again, it appears honda knows of more than usual/severe corrosion of the frame on this vehicle and has dealt with a few consumers on it. But when i ask they say there is nothing they can do. I need help. It appears there is a bigger problem than what they initially started the recall for.

Vehicle frame rusted totally through. Has only 67,000 miles and rest of vehicle is in excellent condition. Frame rust issues need to be addressed by honda before serious injuries are involved.

Went to my mechanic to have a new alternator put in and when he had it up on the lift noticed severe rust on the frame. He notified me that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and recommended getting rid of it. I told him i could not because i had purchased the vehicle a year ago and still owed money on it. After doing some research i realized that this was apparently a common issue with these vehicles. I have taken my vehicle to a couple welding shops and one of them told me it was too risky to try and repair it and the other told me they could try and do some repairs, but of course could not guarantee that it would last any longer. My vehicle was originally purchased in ohio which was one of the states included in the recall and it remained in that state until 2010.

The rear trailing arm has broken away from severe frame rust. There was a recall for this exact problem in 2010 but it only recalled cars from the northeastern states. This car was not recalled even though it is and has been in alaska. I believe the environmental conditions here are just as severe as the northeastern states and the recall should extend here also.

There was a recall on the corrosion of the lower trailing link frame brackets. The recall was done on 9/13/2011.we took the suv to our mechanic to have new tires installed and he informed us that the bracket that holds the springwas gone and the other one was going due to corrosion.the honda dealer that did the recall never informed us of this problem even though ourmechanic said they should have spotted it.

Approximately 15 months ago we took the vehicle into the honda dealership because the engine light came on. The car was put on the lift to determine the problem and they pointed out to me that they saw rust on the frame and they felt it was probably unsafe and too expensive to fix. We then went to another mechanic shop to confirm this since the car had up to that point passed regular state safety inspections and had been maintained. We have records to prove this. The second mechanic made a repair to fix the engine light problem and said he also saw the rust but felt it could be used for local driving. We contacted honda about the rust problem and they denied any fault with the product. We have since learned that many similar complaints were made.the rust became so great so that the shock tower completely tore loose from the body, both left and right sides. We were then forced to junk the car as of october 2010. Honda waited to communicate with us about the recall until december 2010 even though they were aware of this many months before. They say that because we no longer own the car we are not entitled to any compensation.we told them had we been informed about the recall when they were working on this we never would have junked the car. Everything about the car was in good shape. The outside body looked like new and had this rust not occurred to the degree it did we would still have use of the car .

We have done all we can."it seems to me like the car would be a danger to drive in hazardous winter conditions if it shimmies this bad.the car is so bad that the dealership sales manager offered me to "buy it back as a low value trade-in car as a favor to me." the same dealership's service department is calling this car to be in good condition.the car has been with dealership and manufacturer for about 7 times so far.they both refuse to even take a look at the problem any more.what can i do now for the lemon?please help.

Car & steering wheel vibrate & shake so hard it tends to put my hands & arms to sleep.honda does not consider this a safety issue.the car has been in the shop seven times to address this problem; they have only made the problem worse.now honda expects me to drive the car 45 more days while waiting for a "master mechanic" to find the time to work on the car.this is totally unacceptable, i do not feel safe or have confidence in this car.i have filed a bbb report and contacted a lawyer.it is also my understanding honda/rodeo made over 30 changes in the suspension system of the 2000 models.

The frame is rusting out from the middle of the vehicle to the rear. The problem is with the frame not the brackets. The drivers side trailing arm that holds the rear axle in place fell off the frame due to frame rusting away. The rest of the vehicle is good. The frame has a problem. At 180000 miles the frame rusted out letting the coil spring mount on the drivers side separate and rest against the body floor. The frame has a problem.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

My passport hasissues with rear axels and suspension/bolts. Also one day when it had been raining i applied my breaks to stop for a red traffic light and the car went right through the light. The other times i have had to pump the breaks to get car to stop and it made an awful noise. My biggest fear is that i will be driving the car and the rear suspension/support is going to fall apart. A gentleman whose wife was drivind a passport said that her cars front wheel fell off. She did not have an accident as she was backing out of the driveway.none of the recalls seem to have been done to this car and i do not know where to turn. I am 71 years old and i drive my great grandchildren around occasionally. I also provide transportation for elderly persons in the community. Ijust want to know where to go to get this fixed or bought back. I went to a honda service garage in dayton, ohio and he said the recall was outdated? a safety issue that big that has been on government recall and never been fixed can not have an outdated recall?my daughter has pictures of the suspension and rust, i do not know how to send them!

Frame has now rusted through on fake honda passport, actually we find out it is isuzu rodeo that has been nothing but a money pit for the last five years!ie:excess oil usage, transmission troubles, fuel sensor erratic, brakes go out fast, and many other things.however, isuzu and honda have known about this problem since 1998 and have been letting over 200,000 of drive around in a very unsafe vehicle!my dealer just looked at it last year and now it is stage 4 cannot be repaired and they are repairing some that shouldn't be.i have recently in vested a lot of money in a vehicle that should be declared unsafe at any speed and the owners should be compensated with treble damages by honda and isuzu asap!!!!!

It surges intermittenly happened a few times before the accident in sept. The computer was reset problem happens occaisenly now .
