Hit brakes, pedal went down to floor, didn't stop car, hit truck in front of me. Airbags didn't deploy.loy.

I was driving my 1998 honda passport at a speed of 35 mph on a clear day, on a straight level road. The weather conditions were clear and the road conditions were good.the vehicle was in good shape with noprior accidents.at one point a vehicle cut in front of me and i ran into the side of the vehicle. The honda was a total loss. The airbags failed to deploy!i sustained severe injuries to my neck.if the airbags had deployed i would not have sustained neck injuries.nothing was done to correct the airbag deficiencies and there is no maintenance schedule to determine if indeed there was a deficiency in the airbag system.

Consumer was driving at approximately 45 mph ,hit a vehicle head-onand dual airbags did not deploy, causing serious back injuries.

While driving at 50 mph vehicle collided with a deer.consumer was wearingseat belts, but the air bags did not deploy.there were no injuries, and no police arrived on the scene.

Was traveling 50-55mph when another vehicle cut in front of passport, cutting it off at 10-15mph & was rearended. Upon impact, the passport's air bags (driver/passenger) did not deploy. Had vehicle repaired. Passenger had facial cuts. Driver had disc problems, some damage to left arm.

While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. The driver tried to restart the vehicle and was able to do so.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic could not duplicate the problem at this time. Please provide further details.

When you go down the road the passport tries to cut of , you keep pushing the gas and it will take the gasand then it want it dose not cut off,the speedometer goes crazy, took it to the dealer ship, and they said they could not find anything wrong , and had to call other dealer ships and still nothing was done , wanted more hours to try to find out, after keeping it 2 weeks and 3 hoursof labor .

Battery cable failed.

Nar 9-10-03. Consumer complaint on a defective 1998 honda passport pursuant to maryland's lemon law. Battery cables replaced, brake warning light illuminates, rear suspension defective, and brakes pedal inoperable.

Alternator failed.nlm

The safety problem is the lack of warning system to note failure of the alternator.the first indication of failure is shutdown of the electrical system followed by sudden engine shutdown. This leave little time to move to a safe position.this one occurred on a mountain pass.

Idling for a long time, or driving at very low speeds for a long time (stop-and-go in a severe traffic jam) also having most of the vehicle's electrical equipment turned will cause the battery to go dead because the alternator does not adequately charge.this may be a safety problem because driving in the mountains during severe traffic may cause the battery to discharge and the engine to stall; not allowing the ability to move to safe position.*la

Brown deer auto sales sold us an used 1998 honda 4d sport utility, serial # [xxx] in july 2002.after driving the car 200 miles, the temp of the car was running hot and we took the car back to brown deer auto sales.the owner agreed to diagnosis the problem.the car stayed there for a month and a half and the owner said they replaced the gaskets from the motor heads.when we picked up the car, the mechanic advised us to put radiator fluid in if the car runs hot again.the car did continue to run hot and it did not seem right to have to keep adding radiator fluid and even when the car showed the fluid was full, the car still ran hot.so we took the car to another mechanic, who told us that the car had problems with the heads which was caused by faulty gaskets.the mechanic also informed us, that the gaskets could not have been replaced.we have since spent over $5000 dollars in repairing the car.we had also purchased aul insurance package, but the insurance company has denied the claim.we believe that brown deer auto sales sold us a "lemon" and lied to us about putting in new gaskets, which caused major engine damage.updated 07/25/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Last february, my intake gasket failed, and my mechanic was told by the honda parts manager that this was a common problem with my year passport.the gaskets were faulty.i wrote a letter to honda and was dismissed because my warranty had expired.this february, i was losing oil and antifreeze.i took my passport to my mechanic and found that, although i regularly changed my oil and the engine is extremely clean, the head is cracked and the valves are worn out.again, my mechanic talks to the parts manager and finds out that they have had 5 passports with the same problem in the last 6 months.this repair is going to cost me $3000.a 1998 vehicle should not be having these kind of problems.these vehicles are bad and honda should be held responsible.

I am complaining about another (as the dealer puts it) "common defect" with my passport. In addition to the valve train premature wear, this engine also has an excessive amount of oil consumption. Transmission seems to be slipping, it shifts in a dramatic loud manner.a large jolt occurs when changing gears.this occurs completely sporadically, it will function normally for a few days and then malfunction several times, and then return to normal.when taken to transmission shop i was told it was fine, this is partly due to the fact that there is no way to check the transmission fluid without dropping the pan.this problem has persisted for a few months and still continues today.

This problem has been reported to the dealer several times. The dealer found nothing wrong because the problem cannot be duplicated on demand. Last week when slowly making a right-hand turn into a neighbors drive, the brakes completely failed causing a crash.

Vehicle experiences extended stopping distance when brakes applied.dirt/dust in brakes causing brakes not to stop. Dealer cannot duplicate the problem after changing the master cylinder.

Front and rear brakes are defective, causing problems with calipers.also steering is defective which causes steering to go out while vehicle is being driven.

Many problems with passport.abs light stays on (bad rear sensor failure 3 times), front suspension problems (bushings are failing) problem happens 6 times, vehicle may stall while driving when clutch is depressed which causes loss of control of vehicle, fuel guage went out (dealer says it is the main computer system)

However, since the dealer is not willing to provide free service and parts as to my request, i have to report this issue to the appropriate dept. The found problem is when i was slowly driving this car and needed to press brake, but the car kept moving forward, which i did not feel the brake applied. I almost hit bypassing. It took unexpected long time to stop the vehicle. I believe that there must be problems existing with my car.

While braking at 50mph on a damp road, applied brakes normally to stop for a light and the brake pedal went to the floor, the abs clicked loudly, and the came to rest past the intended stopping point.

On occasion when we step on the brakes, the car will suddenly accelerate. Tho i have complained numerous times, honda cannot duplicate therefore will not do anything to resolve it. I am afraid someone is going to get killed with the car. Still have 6 months before lease is up and they won't buy out the lease or take the car back. Its very dangerous and i have witnesses who have seen it happen. Twice we have had accidents with it, twice i've gone through lights, once i hit a sidewalk trying to park because it jumped. I have 3 children and am afraid one of them will be hurt. This is a safety issue i'm concerned about - and its like they don't care or believe me. I didn't know where else to turn.

The incident dated 12/21/01 occured as the vehicle exited off the freeway in san pedro, ca.my brother was driving and was aware of the previous brake problems that have occurred in rainy conditions.the vehicle followed the offramp at 25 mph.we had ample distance between the us and the car in front.as the car came to a slow down, my brother stepped on the brakes but they did not work.there was a rumbling sound as the tires kept rotating. He veered over to the lane to our left so as not to hit the car in front of us.the vehicle continued to slide about 10 more feet on its own until my brother pulled on the emergency brake.as this was happening an 18 wheeler truck was approaching from behind us.fortunately he was able to stop, the screeching of his brakes was loud, and although our bumpers were touching no one or no vehcile was damaged.the other two incidents of the brakes locking up also occured in rainy conditions.the first happening on the day i bought the vehicle.again, fortunately no other car was in front of me or for sure i would hvae definitely had rear end collisions as my vehicle slid about 2 feet after the brakes were pressed.also, in very hot temperatures (90-100 degrees) the brakes when pressed make the vehicle rumble loudly to the point where the rear view mirror shakes for about 3 seconds.the other ongoing problem has been the screeching and squealing of the brakes from the day the vehicle was purchased.

Problems with brake equipment on 1998 honda passport.*mrprior to recall notification, when the consumer attempted to brake, the vehicle did not respond and therefore the consumer was unable to stop the vehicle in time to avoid a collision with another vehicle. The brakes failed to respond on a second occasion while driving on a rough bumpy pavement, again the consumer collided with another vehicle.

Consumer called complaining about havingabs problems .every time they brake abs slides, and the vehicle won't stop totally. Manufacturer or dealer were not contacted at the time of this call.

The dealership did not have the parts for the antilock brake system recall 02 i 002 001, within a reasonable time.

When the anti lock brakes were applied, the brake pedal traveled tothe floor, which caused the vehicle to experience extended stopping distance.

The problem that i started having with the truck at about 10000 miles is that the vehicle continues to accelerate on its own when i release the acellerator and press the brake.the problem has persisted for quite some time despite numerous trips to the honda dealership.in august of 99 i took the car into the honda dealership in albany, ga and they informed me that the problem was due to an electrical problem.they said it was fixed.i took the car into the same dealership in november of 2000.they kept the car for two days and said that they identified the problem and that the problem was with some of the electrical connectors.the problem was not fixed.the vehicle is currently at the honda dealership in newburg, ny where they have just informed me that they did not identify a problem with it.four days ago i nearlly ran over three women who live in my housing area because the truck would not stop when i attempted to.the only way that i was able to stop the forward movement of the truck was to quickly place the truck into neutral to disengage the transmission.there is a serious problem with this vehicle and i fear for the safety of my family and others.

We ran into the back of another vehicle at an intersection. He was stopped and we attempted to stop. The brakes did not work and we continued to roll into the crv. We have reported this problem several time to the local honda dealerships.the problem is the brakes will randomly stop working even though we are applying maximum pressure, they will "chatter" as the dealer described it. They have acknowledged the characteristic but say we have to live with it. It supposedly is a design issue.the abs senses some wheel anomily and disengages the brakes and re-engages them rapidly but not rapidly enough and the vehicle contiues to go forward.we have rolled through stop signs, lights, into intersections, etc.this time into a vehicle.fortunately, we were not hurt but it only a matter of time until a major injury or death occurs.again the dealerships have acknowledged the characteristic but say they can do nothing to "fix" it because techinically it is not broken.a techinician said the fix is "off the record" and they disconnect the abs during service and do not connect it again giving regular brakes back without the abs. I requested this to be done but they cannot do it leagally.my insurance company is farmers insurance and the agent warren aldous is located in kemah/seabrook, tx area.

I purchased this car in august, 1998 and from the begining, experienced brake noise problems.one dealer tried to fix the problem a number of times but gave up in the end and i was told that "such brake noise is acceptable."my point at the time was that brake noise is symptomatic of a problem, a potentially safety-related problem (especially since we are dealing with brakes).i complained to the manufacturer, who agreed to extend the warranty on the brakes only from three years/36,000 miles to five years/60,000 miles.on september 16, 2000, i brought the car in to another dealer with brake shuddering and noise problems.the dealer found that the rotors and drums were out of spec and i spent $144 to have the rotors and drums turned.i tried to use my warranty but was told that the fix was maintenance and was not covered by the warranty.i again complained to the manufacturer but my complaint was denied.my contention is that a car of such young age and low mileage should not have to have its rotors and drums turned and that such a problem is indicative of a manufacturing defect which american honda refuses to acknowledge.

I own a 1998 honda passport. I was leaving my apartment complex and as i was approaching a stop sign which leads to a highway, my vehicle would not come to a complete stop whle braking. Though i was not speeding my brake pedal was resisting and felt hard as i pressed the brake more firmly. I ended up partially in the highway and an oncoming car slammed into me on the driver side totalling my suv. The street was wet from rain. As i exited my vehicle i noticed that my brake lights still remained illuminated even though i was not in the vehicle. Mr

Front and rear brakes are defective, causing problems with calipers.also steering is defective which causes steering to go out while vehicle is being driven.

The dealer and later on honda engineers have balanced/rotated the tires 5 times, they have replaced rack and pinion spring, hubs, changed rotors, installed new rear wheel centering rings & body shims, and replaced original tires with new more expensive tires.still the suv vibrates as if its going to fall apart and the steering wheel shimmies dangerously at speeds greater than 55, becoming worse between 65 and 75 mph.i have checked numerous websites on the internet and have found several people with the same problem.one in texas was lucky enough to have honda buy back her passport for testing to see if they could figure out what is going on. We took the car to arbitration by the bbb and even though they only tested it for 25 minutes and even though we showed that the steering wheel shimmied and the car vibrated they later on concluded that they felt no vibration and sided with honda.stating that the passport is after all a truck and vibration is to be expected.

Steering wheel cable reel failed. Yh

I have been experiencing vibration in the steering wheel and a very bad knocking sound in the steering box since the day i purchased the vehicle.i have brought it back to the original dealer and a honda dealer 3-4 times and they suggested to balance the tires , i have been to numerous dealers to fix with no resolve at this time.also stating that the knocking from the steering box was normal.this has been an ongoing thing since feb.

Frame rusted on 1998 honda passport, causing near accident for 2 occupants. Area of frame is driver's side holding rear wheel stabilizer bar. Rusted through and fell off while driving at 5 mph. Caused lack of control and swaying of vehicle, occurred very suddenly and without warning. Entire area/portion of frame was rusted through on one component. Several other passport owners are/have experienced the same issue with the exact same component of passport vehicles. I was able to avoid a crash and injury only due to the fact that i was traveling at 5 mph in a driveway leading to a business. Otherwise a crash would have occurred with injury to 2 occupants.

1988 honda passport - vehicle's driver's side rear wheel stabilizer bar rusted off, causing a near accident. Lost control of vehicle, but was only going 5 mph in a parking lot, so was able to stop vehicle immediately. Entire frame is riddled with rust. Area in rear of vehicle where coil springs are attached to frame is completely rusted through. Rust is extensive, fromto rear of frame, pretty much swiss-cheesed with rust. Vehicle is unsafe to drive. No area of frame is unaffected. Able to push finger through the frame in many areas. Body of vehicle is in pristine condition with no body rust. Looks new, except for the face that the frame is basically rusting off of the body of the honda passport. Honda america states they are not responsible for this. I personally feel his is a safety issue, these vehicles are not safe or trustworthy to drive. No warning there was a problem while i was driving the vehicle, sudden "boom" at which time i stopped the vehicle at the curb of the driveway to the parking lot. Vehicle is unusable. Area where stabilizer bar fell off is not repairable because there is no good metal on the frame to weld a repair to. Passport was well taken care of, excellently maintained, body, interior and engine in excellent condition. Just have no frame to put the body on. Honda america told me "we are aware there is a problem, but when thousands are affected and millions of these were made, we don't consider it to be an issue". Isuzu rodeo are affected identically, the same area of rust is the first indication there is an issue, the rear driver's side stabilizer bar falls/rusts off while driving.we are the sole owners of this passport, not a flood car, not near the ocean and not in an area where salt is used extensively on the roads. Again, there is no part of the frame unaffected by rust. A 50 year old vehicle has a better frame on it than my 1998.

I brought my 1998 hondapassport in to have it inspected. I was told the entire frame including brackets were entirely rusted. It would not pass inspection and i was told it was unsafe to drive. I never received a recall notice about rust. I depend on my truck and my grandchildren have to ride in it. Please make this a mandatory recall, some one is bound to be killed by honda mistakes. (who knows how many accidents there have been.)i am the original owner and have had all upkeep done . Once again please make this issue a mandatory recall, for safety sake.

I bought a 1998 honda passport at the auction in salem newhampshire on december 20, 2014, the vehicle has an estimate of 87;000 miles on it, which is why i bought the car in the first place on top of the fact that the vehicle appeared to be in good condition, however to my surprise after taking my car to the mechanic, i was told that the frame to the vehicle was extremely rotted and would most likely be a hazard. I was not aware that the vehicle was on recall for frame rot issues until today december 29,2014, i tried to receive co-operations from a honda dealer and was told that the recall was closed and that their was nothing they can do and simply apologized. What i do not understand is why would they leave a recalled vehicle on the market, wouldn't this be a violation of the lemon law? i believe as a recent honda passport owner, to a vehicle that has hardly been used, judging by the miles, i should be entitled to services from honda in regards to the recall that was "closed". Besides it was honda's error and it is their obligation to build safe vehicles for the consumer.

While driving (1/21/09), i felt like the passport was "skating on ice" or being hit by wind. Sudden onset of this issue. Turning a corner and driving 5 mph, i encountered a sudden loud "boom", and stopped the car immediately. The driver's back wheel stabilizer bar had fallen off of the body/frame of the honda, completely rusted/rotted off. Had the car towed home only to discover that the frame was riddled with holes, some as large as 6" in the frame. One area of the back frame was held together was 2 small pieces, 1" wide, my husband noted numerous rusted through holes in the frame. The body looks new, no rust, no problems. We live in ky, not near an ocean, not where road salt is used a lot during the winter because the winters are not severe. The piece of frame in question is one section of frame, in the back by the rear tire, driver's side. The rest of the frame is not bad, so it is possible that faulty or defective metal was used to put this area of frame together. I was able to control the vehicle and stop immediately, otherwise there would have been an accident. There were 2 occupants in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

1998 honda passport broke right lower control arm.consumer states that the right control arm mount had detached because the frame had rusted in that area. The left mount was still attached, but had a large hole in it.the spring mounts also had large amounts of rust.

Frame rustfrom front to backrear is really bad.

The contact owns a 1998 honda passport. During vehicle inspection, she was advised that the rear end of the frame and suspension was corroded. He then added that certain brake components were causing the frame to fracture. The current and failure mileages were 64000.

Underbody of 1998 honda passport is rusted out beyond repair. I have had it taken to several mechanics and they all say the same thing. The frame can not be repair as it is too rusted out. Everything behind the drive side door is swiss cheese and most of the other parts that would connect to the frame are also rusted out. Everyone tell me that the car is not only unsafe to drive they have never seen this type of rust on such a new car. The vehicle has not been in a accident and looks completely new body wise.

The contact owns a 1998 honda passport.the contact was driving 30 mph when the vehicle exhibited an unusually loud bang and the contact immediately noticed that the suspension did not feel normal. The contact discovered excessive frame rust and the shocks were being held up by the body of the vehicle.the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic and mechanic stated the vehicle was beyond repair. The contact then took the vehicle to an authorized dealer where the dealer informed the contact that the frame was damaged beyond repair and should not be driven.the manufacturer was contacted and advised that they would not assist with repairs due to the rust issue. Our family owns a 1998 honda passport with serious frame rusting and frame rot. We have maintained and serviced the vehicle regularly and have had it serviced numerous times. Our incident occurred when we noticed that the vehicle started to drive like a tank. In other words it became hard to turn and you could feel every bump in the road. Upon inspection of the car i found that the rear suspension of the car had completely rusted through. Allowing the rear axle springs to ride directly onto the car body. Also the frame stabilizer bar mount was rusted through and breaking off. The rear frame support bar that connects the rear end of the frame together was completely rusted through. This frame is so rusted thought that you can poke holes in it with your fingers!!!!! the entire frame is completely rotted through.

The contact owns a 1998 honda passport.while pulling into the service garage at an unknown speed, the mechanic noticed that the front frame of the vehicle was severely eroded, which resulted in cracking and breaking.the dealer and manufacturer have not yet determined the cause of the failure.they stated that they will not perform a diagnostic to determine if they are at fault.the failure and current mileages were 120,000.updated 03/13/08.*lj

I have a 1998 honda passport and the bottom frame is all rusted and the rear axle or rear suspension trailing arm rusted till it fell off.luckily it happened while my son was leaving our driveway and he was not on a highway driving at highway speed.so it is no longer driveable and we tied up the falling part and it was parked in our yard for almost a year because we could not afford to get it repaired.we now have to move to a townhouse and there is no place to park this vehicle so we had it towed to an autobody shop for an estimate.the initial estimate for cost of repair is about $2,000 which is more than what we can afford and it could possibly get higher once the repairs get started.so this is where we stand.we bought a honda, used it for 2.5 years and due to the poor quality of parts used to make this vehicle, it rotted out on us and fell apart and we have been unable to use it since the summer of 2009 and we can't afford to get it repaired.we feel that honda should be reponsible for our loss of use of this vehicle.we were hoping to keep this vehicle and use for a long time but now is unable to.

I took my honda passport to fox honda, to get the recalls looked at and they said that the frame was rusted out and that it was unsafe to drive, so they said the recall for the frame had ended already so they couldn't do anything about it. They let me drive the honda off there lot knowing that i could get in a wreck. There's got to be a mandatory recall on these passports and get them off the road. Its just not going to kill you but other people too.

When vehicle is driven over a rough patch inroad/ inwet or dry weather conditionsvehicle shakes likes it is falling apart. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Please provide further details.

While driving at an undetermined speed vehicle vibrated. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership on five occasions, however, the mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

While drivingbetween 60-65 mph the vehicle begins to vibrate. Also, goes from side to side, causing alot of movement. The dealer can't find the problem.

I couldn't list failed component, i don't know the cause.i have a shimmy/wobbly ride above 60mph.dealer has balanced tires three times, replaced an individual tire and replaced all tires with a different brand to no avail.the vehicle feels very unstable at times, expecially above 60mph and road surface seems to affect the severity of the problem.i think the dealer and manufacture know of this problem, but i'm not sure they know how to fix it.something needs to be done.

At highway speeds the steering wheel vibrates uncontrollably.the dealer has not been able to correct the problem.the manufacturer has been notified.

Due to the suspension design of the vehicle, while making a turn, vehicle turned over. Consumer received an owner notification in regard to this issue. Vehicle totaled.

Driving started to sway slightly for no apparent reason, on the way home there was a sudden grinding and loss of control over the vehicle staying in one lane, i pulled it over to the side of the road and looked at it. The rear trailing arm rusted and separated from the frame. Hundreds of complaints over this issue as well as complaints that canada is reimbursed and in the us it is hard to get the proper compensation.had the vehicle for two years, were assured there were no recalls when we bought it from a dealer, we were never informed of any recalls while owning it. Vehicle has recalls on rust and the frame that honda said expired, but they had us tow our vehicle to honda center then offered 100 dollars to us after the tow fee was deducted or we could pay 1800 to fix it. We had it in a safe place that would have given us much more money for totaling it out because he wouldn't fix it due to the repair still being unsafe. This is this particular service centers way of getting unsafe honda's off the road.

Vehicle suspension design allows for extreme vibration.

When driving above 60 mph vehiclevibrates and shakes constantly, dealer notified five times, problem still exists. Consumer also stated that cup holder *yd

Steering wheels moves from side to side at certain speeds.

I took my car to a repair shop for regular service on august 7, 2012. The mechanic called me and said that elements of the rear suspension, particularly the rear axle lower link bracket mentioned in the 1998 honda passport recall - #00v058000, as well as several other parts related to the rear suspension, were so corroded that the vehicle was not safe to drive.i had taken my vehicle to a certified honda dealer to address the recall mentioned above, and at that time they applied an anti-corrosive coating to these affected parts. This solution did not seem to work.at the time, some owners of the make, model and year of this vehicle had their vehicles bought back by the manufacturer. I feel that i should have been offered that option. Instead, a vehicle was returned to me that was unsafe to transport my family.

While driving over series of bumps the vehicle swayed to right or left side which almost caused loss of vehicle control.cause unknown.dealer said it is the characteristics of the vehicle.please provide further information.

Vehicle vibrates when driving at 60-65mph. Dealer contacted and is willing to replace the vehicle. But when driving the replacement vehicle, the problem occurred and still exists. Dealer cannot duplicate the problem.

Vehicle shakes severely at 40 mph and faster. The shake is worse when the speed reaches and exceeds 70 mph.dealership serviced the vehicle three times and found no problem. The tires were balanced and rotated twice.

Vehicle shimmies and wobbles betweeen 60 - 70 mph.steering wheel begins to vibrate at 60-70 mph.first trip was told tires needed balancing.tires were balanced and service indicated the problem was resolved.returned less than a month later and was told a "slight" vibration was "normal".however the vibration is extreme.car has been serviced 3 - 4 times since initial visit to dealership and was told by service manager he was had been in contact with american honda and honda engineers were working on a solution but a time frame for an answer was unknown.was contacted by american honda and told to return the vehicle for additional balancing.vehilce kept for a week but the problem was unresolved.help!!!!

Bad vibration at 55mph and above, also pulls either direction. Dealer can't fix three times. Called manufacturer. They say dealer can install a "yoke spring" to cut down on vibration. Service mngr at dealership said he had never heard of this yoke springcalled service dept 4 times and each time they say part will be in 2-3 days. It has now been 3 weeks still no yoke spring.

Dealer tried 3 times to fix suspension/shaking steering wheel; still not fixed.

When driving heard vibration in the front end and steering at 60-65mph. Dealer contacted and tried to remedy the problem for approximately five weeks. Cannot duplicate the problem.

While driving at speeds of 55-75 steering wheel vibrates sharply and pulls to the right, dealer has replaced and balanced front tires and aligned front end, as well as installed new gear return spring. Dealers explanation for the problems range from uneven pavement to aggressive tread pattern on tires. I have an appointment to meet with the manufacture's area represenative.

Extreme vibration in steering wheel at speeds 55 to 75 mph.vehicle pulls to both directions.dealer hasalligned, balanced and replaced tires.after third attempt, dealer informs us there is nothing further they can do to remedy the problem at this time. Also, right front area makes squeeking sound.we test drove a brand new passport like ours on the same lot, it had slight vibration problem as well.we were told by service manager that within 500 miles that vehicle would do the same as ours.

Front shock damper failed. Mjs

Nar 9-10-03. Consumer complaint on a defective 1998 honda passport pursuant to maryland's lemon law. Battery cables replaced, brake warning light illuminates, rear suspension defective, and brakes pedal inoperable.

The contact owns a 1998 honda passport. The vehicle was included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 10v436000 (suspension:rear) and was taken to an authorized dealer where a new bracket was mounted onto a severely corroded frame. New dunlop front tire has severe cupping; it is now affecting the frontal stability of the cycle, as the handle bars shake (when held with 2 hands) at some speeds. I contacted dunlop 4x, and via a dealer ... The cupping is not so severe (and so is the instability) that its hard to go around turns. At speeds around 50 mph and above, vehicle has a persistent shimmy (vibration) in the steering wheel. Honda dealer says it is the tires, tire dealer says the tires are ok. Dealer kept the vehicle all day, and the problem was about 90 percent better. But the shimmy came back within a month. Have talked to honda's customer service people, they claim no knoweldge of it. But the internet is full of reports of the shimmy on early production vehicles (like mine). I seem to have exhausted all other avenues, so i am now filing this report( dot number: )

Cruise control failed.

2 weeks ago i was sitting at a light, my foot on the brake, when the brake moved under my foot. Then the gas revved like the gas pedal was being held down. I could barely keep the car from ramming the car stopped ahead of me. I put both my feet on the brake and put my car in neutral and turned the key off. After i restarted the car it was normal. Definitely the most harrowing experience i've ever had! my vehicle is an 1998 honda passport, not a toyota. Could it have the same parts? i'm afraid to drive it now.

For the past two years, there has occurred approximately ten unintended accelerations in my 1998 honda passport.(isuzu)this occurs mainly in a stop and go situation when driving in heavy traffic.the rpm's suddenly shoot up to about 6000, and just as suddenly decrease.the rear wheels spin while i am holding the brake down.on the last occasion, i had it in park and the acceleration occurred again.i have taken it into the isuzu people and honda people and they could not find the cause, nor correct the problem.
