The air bag light came up on 7/13/21 because according to the ownerā€™s manual this is a warning and it can be a tragically event. I was afraid that if an incident happened my family would be in danger. I took the van to the honda dealer it has 59,000 miles and i was told the i need to replace passenger seat weight sensor assembly (seat rail with sensor) part #81201-thr-a01. I asked told them that this might be a manufacturerā€™s problem because when i turn on the van the light was already on. I purchased the extended warranty and this vehicle was certified and we have to pay for the repair and labor. Because i was told this is not covered under any warranty which in my opinion since this is a safety feature should be covered.
"takata recall" second: upon closing the rear sliding doors they became stuck in an open position.it took stopping and physically closing them to ensure they would close and lock.upon research honda has a recall for this brand new van for the sliding doors as well but failed to mention it during our recent service and complaint.the vehicle was parked and loading.
The driver's side airbag, the driver's side curtain airbag, the passenger's side airbag, and the passenger's side curtain airbag (a total of 4 airbags) of the 2018 honda odyssey lx unnecessarily and dangerously deployed in a rear-end collision that did not did not cause side displacement or rollover of the vehicle.the front passenger's side airbag deployed with no passengers present in the vehicle, which could even have been a safety hazard if, for example, there were a child in the front passenger seat.this occurrence contradicts the airbag deployment conditions specified in the owner's guide, which state that that the aforementioned airbags should deploy in the case of side impact or rollover situations.this unnecessary and dangerous airbags deployment: a) increased the risk of a secondary collision by startling and distracting the driver at the exact time it was crucial to focus and safely stop the vehicle, b) increased the accident-induced traumatic stress on the driver from the impact shock of the deployed airbags, and c) increased the cost of vehicle repair by necessitating the replacement of the needlessly deployed airbags, which is about 40% of the estimated total cost of repair.reported the issue to the american honda motor company, torrance, ca, however, they refused to investigate it.please see the attached document for details.
The right side airbags and curtain airbags deployed for no reason while my family was driving.
Upon proceeding through an intersection the van began to automatically break to a complete stop from approximately 30-35mph, screeching tires, then shutting completely off.the entire dashboard cluster was dark as was the computer display for the radio/other controls.looking down the "park" indicator was lit red.i pressed the break and the van started up and went into gear driving as if nothing occurred.this scared me and upon my call to honda, they said it's related to another "electrical system update" which needs to occur but has not been completed so there was nothing they could do.i reached out to another dealership explaining the situation and they advised me to use the roadside assistance to have the van taken to them for safety reasons.
Vehicle was off in a parked state in my driveway. The electrical harness for the horn malfunctioned and the horn was audible for about 4 minutes. During which, the fuse for the horn was removed, though the horn did not stop being audible. After the four minutes, the horn cut off and the harness shorted out. Smoke was visible as well as the smell of burnt wire coming from the drivers side front headlight. Pulling of the fuse had no effect as the horn continued to be audible. The cause is unknown at this time and can potentially lead to a fire in the vehicles engine compartment. There was no one driving the vehicle at the time. Maintenance is preformed iaw the vehicles manual at an official honda dealership.
Keep gettingerror message that my care has lost powerbetween driving andthe anti theft on the radio displays.dealershiphasn'tbeen able to reproduce this issueeven thoughi have photos of it happening15 + timesit has happens since the van was a few weeks old
On june 3rd my 4 yr old daughter was securely restrained in her britax clightight 5 point harness in the seat behind the driver in the middle row. We were parked in a parking lot after a grocery trip and i was getting ready to return home after shopping. I put her in the car and closed the door of the van. She tried stopping the door with her foot but her foot didn't reach the pressure sensor on the outside of the door (the thin black tubing on the outside of the vehicle) so the door closed on her foot causing bruising.i talked to 3 honda dealers and i have a complaint filed with honda. When honda returned my call i was instructed that his job was to inform me that the vehicle has limitations and that the last three inches of the door is the "point of no return" where the door needs momentum to lock. The last experience was at the honda store where a salesman showed me the 2019 honda. I described the incident to him and asked him to try stopping the door from the inside without touching the sensor on the outside. He first touched the outside sensor. I had him retry stopping the door only applying pressure to the inside of the door where my daughters foot was. He said the "point of no return" argument from honda over the phone wasn't true because the pressure sensor stopped the door when he touched it an inch from the door. He told me he thought it was odd because the tailgate retracts when touched. He told me he was going to find out who i should contact but never got back to me. No one can tell me how much pressure was applied to my daughters foot that caused the serve bruising.
Driver door does not unlock. The automatic unlock beeps like it is working, but does not unlock the door. I have to crawl into the back and then i can unlock driver door internally. This problem occurs randomly making it hard for dealership to see problem and fix. They will not fix unless it can be repro ducible. I have found that there is a forum with a lot of people having this same issue and unable to get fixed due to honda wanting it reproducible.
Sometimes, the driver side, read door would not close with button, instead i have to hard push the door to close it manually. It happens with both key and "close" button inside the car. This is happening periodically.
The rear camera system has 'camera system failure' error. Anytime the car is put in reverse, instead of the rear camera visibility, the screen goes black with an error message of camera system failure.
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. When the contact pressed the remote key to unlock the doors, the windows and sun roof would erroneously open. In addition, the alarm would randomly activate on occasion and, after turning off the vehicle, the interior lighting would remain illuminated. The failures were not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 1,000.
When the fob is stored near the vehicle it creates a power drain on the battery. We were camping for the weekend and the fob was generally near the vehicle (in the camper). When we left the campground at the end of the weekend, the warning indicator said not to use any auxiliary power. I am not sure how the vehicle uses the battery vs the engine or alternator to power the interior outlets, usb charging ports, and other things like the dvd/res system, but the previous power outage in the vehicle has us on high alert and we feel it is relevant as it indicates a pattern of power failure and insufficient battery or power supply to the vehicle relative to the voltage it pulls with the "bells and whistles" on the car. The warning remained for the entire 3 hour drive home.
Entertainment system malfunctions constantly. Center console displays message: 'camera system problem. Image cannot be displayed.' this will happen randomly while the car is on whether i'm driving or not. I have noticed it happening more often when the ac is used. It almost always happens whenever remote start feature is used.
My backup camera does not function or cannot be viewed due to error messages, system freezing, camera errors which is unsafe.the radio is effected and the hvac controls, too. This happens randomly while driving, when starting the car as well.i have rear windows that will not roll up, which is unsafe.wipers also do not function correctly.they wipe too slow or too fast and cannot be controlled, which is unsafe.these conditions have happened since vehicle was new and continue to happen.honda does not have a fix for this.
1. One of the two keys provided did not open the doors. We took it to the service center and it was reprogrammed.2. A few weeks later, the driver door would not unlock, not even from the inside. They had the door latch replaced.3. Last week the back door would close but would not lock by itself. On the way to the service center, we went over a speed bump and the transmission shifted into neutral gear and shut off. An "emission system problem" warning light came on on the dash. We called road assistance to take it back to the shop. They ran extensive tests but could not find anything wrong. The technician working on it, hooked up a computer and took it home. The next day he called and indicated the transmission control computer was defective and would order it to have it replaced. Today.
Upon opening vehicle using remote control (sliding doors or tailgate), the drivers door will not unlatch or unlock.no matter what you do, you can not open this door from the outside.only way to open it is to go in via the passenger side of the vehicle and manual release the door. Dealership was notified of this problem once before and stated they can not duplicate, which seems to be the common answer for honda when they don't want to take ownership for their vehicle issues.
The van will stall after stopping. While turning right, i stop at a stop sign, waiting and when it's safe, go to start to turn, pushing the accelerator and the van will stall. It will take me releasing the accelerator and pushing it again to get it to move again. This is terrifiying. This has happened upwards of 20 plus times since purchasing the van in august 2017.
Ssince the computer was updated, the gas needle is wrong.it may show full when you fill gas tank, but less than 25 miles needle will drop down approx.1/8 below full and when you fill up.gas needle will be below 1/2 full and it will only take approx. 8to 9 gal yo fill up tankit appears to be 2gals +, -wrong.doesn't matter if van is moving or still.also the gas mileage seem to be less..
Vehicle is not shifting at all, doesn't go right away when pedal is pressed, park, drive, reverse buttons flash on dashboard when car is on. All sensor lights come on with issues.
I was out of state on vacation.while driving my car in the city, a 2018 honda odyssey exl purchased oct. 2017 with only 6000 miles, the engine light came on and i got an emissions warning notice that i needed to get the emissions system checked.i called a local honda dealer and he told me to drive it around for a week and see what happened; ie: if the message went away or something happened to the car.after a week i called the dealer again and he told me to bring the car in to be checked.they gave me a loaner car to use.after approximately 3-4 days he called and said there was evidence of rodent chewing on the coating of the wires.he said the cause was wire harness chewed causing short in shielded wire.he said he needed to keep the car another couple of days to check all the wires.he called me back a couple days later and said that the whole system was affected and needed to get a new harness.apparently the coating on the wires was soy based.i did some checking and there were several law suits against several auto manufacturers in 2014 and 2015 about this problem of rodents eating the coatings on the wires.i had to wait 2 months before getting my car back as the harness was on back order.the total cost of this was $2619.i had to pay out of pocket $500 and my insurance company paid the rest.i feel that this should have been covered by honda as they have known that this was a problem for several years and yet they still were putting in wiring coated with soy based product.
Beginning at 10,077 miles my vehicle began experiencing defect symptoms with failures of its central control panel touch screen/display. Multiple vehicle functions and features are controlled and displayed through the touch screen.many failures have been documented with video and in the presence of qualified honda service personnel. This central touch screen also serves as a controller for radio-media connectivity, phone calls, navigation, and it is the backup camera display. Failure symptoms included issues while the vehicle is in motion:slow navigation system performance, delayed backup camera images when transmission is shifted into reverse, display "freezing", warning messages appearing on display, touch screen display which stays on all night and drains battery after vehicle is shut down, and camera failure messages. The backup camera is sometimes completely nonfunctionalwhen reversing the vehicle. Two honda dealers have verified that the completely nonfunctional backup camera issue exists. Each control/display occurrence while the vehicle is in motion represents a distraction of driver attention. The touch screen/display/central controller/audio unit has now had 11 repair visits. I have substantial video and printed documentation. American honda motor company is aware that such problems exist, and they are unable to provide a remedy, further, american honda motor company denies that failed backup camera performance is a safety matter.'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'
Cabin watch malfunctions and turns off, when that occurs the rear entertainment system freezes and stays on even when the car has been turned off. I needed a new battery just a week after purchasing the vehicle. Now i know to turn the screen up when the cabin watch malfunctions so that my battery does not drain. The steering wheel controls also malfunction frequently so i cannot change the station via the steering wheel.
My 2018 honda odyssey has only 3295 miles , i am getting message on display anti theft system lost power . The message displayed 4 timesin last three months. Sometimes it is scared to drive the van.
Our 2018 honda odyssey elite has a feature called idle stop.the feature has many criteria that must be met before it will activate.it should just turn off the engine when the criteria have been met in an effort to conserve fuel in lieu of idling.we are seeing a random issue when this feature activates where the vehicle will shut off the car entirely and place it in park.we must manually start our vehicle again then place it back in drive to proceed.we've had it happen three times.all have taken place at stop lights following a complete stop.the most recent occurrence took place at a stop light after leaving the highway.i'm concerned we will be rear ended due to our vehicle being disabled at an intersection.it's currently at the dealership for the fifth time (multiple issues with this vehicle) to hopefully find a solution.
All warning lights popped up and continued to cycle through when i was driving causing the vehicle to go into a safety/limp mode. Shifting became very difficult and the maximum speed topped out at 45mph.
I purchased a brand new 2018 honda odyssey elite.. (their higher trim) $50kas soon as i drove off the lot. The car gave me an error. I ignored it. I took it to the dealer ship they install a new battery that apparently this is a special kind of battery. The problem with the rear entertainment system keeps in default. I took it in 6 times already no solution just run around. When you start everything is fine after 10 minutes of playing anything the screen goes crazy. I attached pictures. Nothing works. Some times if you restart the car you are lucky and you get picture. But must of the time you have to wait for a few hours. I think honda deserves a visit to make things right. I called the dealer ship several times but they told me to call corporate which i did and they open a case. But no solution yet.
Please see the attached letter regarding the power sliding door that fails to shut all the way.
We have been having issues with our driver side door since it was 6 months old they have fixed it twice now including the recall a few months ago, and it is back to not closing. The first time they fixed it when we were waiting on parts the door got totally suck closed and could not be opened any way. This is becoming a safety issue. I have 10 plus videos from over the last 18 months where the door refused to close and bounce back open multipletimes i have to switch the door to manual to get it to close, we also get a anti theft error at least 1 time a week and honda has no idea on that error either.all my photos and videos are too big to attach.
Electrical issues:after driving vehicle for 2 ' 5 minutes, entertainment system, rear entertainment screen and parking sensors stop working. The speakers make loud popping sound that will not go away even when you try to power off radio/entertainment system.turning the vehicle off was the only way to stop the sound.once restarted, everything would work for 2 ' 5 minutes and the same thing would happen.the speakers popping were very loud and distracting, screen with backup camera and parking sensors stopped working making the vehicle not drivable.
When i got into the car, i had just started the car up and there were warning lights for the blind spot information system not working; other things that weren't working were the heated seats or the rear climate controls. Later that day, the backup camera screen was black. This is unacceptable for my 2018 touring that is almost 50k!
Car was powered off on level ground, no lights, radio, nothing was turned on in car. No sensors displayed in dashboard, no sounds from car. Hatch was left opened for 2 days for an event. When event over, car would not turn on. Took to dealership who said car battery died. They said it was probably bad battery since nothing was on battery should not drain. I suspect it's a fuse issue with the hatch door draining the battery not a bad battery.
1. Failure of the rear entertainment system: the rear camera and entertainment system will lost "network connectivity" and stop functioning2. Brake mitigation system: spontaneously turns on 3. Failure of the infotainment system: the infotainment system will turn off and go into a series of failures, ultimately turning off completely and not functioning.the infotainment system will also experience power errors resulting in errors with the anti theft system.in addition, the radio/speakers periodically stop working.
Touring-rear entertainment system shuts off to black screen and cabin watch loses signal and gives an error code. While driving long distances, the kids can only watch the first 30 minutes of their dvd before the system seems to overheat and completely shutdown. We have resorted to turning it off to let it cool down ( dvd that is removed from the player comes out scalding hot) before retrying to let them watch and have it fail a few minutes later. Cabinwatch seems to act up at the same time the rear entertainment system fails.
I am older and i believe the turn signal volume is too low especially due to road noise. This is the only car i drive where it is difficult to hesr the turn signals. Honda cannot fix the volume..
Headlights: when the van was purchased i discovered several days later that the drivers side headlight was not working. Discovered the lights was not plugged in. December 18 & 27 the anti-theft system disabled. The dealership picked up van and said they repaired. I was told there was a connection that was not securely clipped together. When this happened i had been parked and away from the van for at least an hour on both occasions. When i started it to leave the error message was on the screen. Immediately contacted the dealership both times.
We were driving on i75 north on sat june 10. We were right before the atlanta macon split. The vehicle completely shut down at highway speeds. The dvd player turned off. The engine turned off. The entire instrument panel went dark. There was no power to anything. The vehicle turned back on in "park" creating a horrible popping noise. The dealership (willett honda) in morrow ga looked at the vehicle and cannot find the source of the power failure. They have been instructed to return it to us. The case number at honda is 06075564. Jerry hogan at bommarito honda in hazelwood mo is the sales manager and he wants us to drive the vehicle in spite of the obvious safety defect. Honda cannot detect the cause of the issue.
As i put the vehicle in reverse, an error message appears "camera system failure" and the backup camera does not work.
While i was driving this morning, on a side city street, and took a speed bump, the electrical system cut out entirely.i lost power to my speedometer and my entire infotainment system.when i stopped the car, got out, then got back in, the speedometer came back, but the infotainment system continued to be out.the infotainment system has been a problem since about day 30 of owning the car.it will cut out, say check tuner, the speakers crackle.originally this was attributed to the auto on/off feature, but now the whole system shuts down.
Sliding doors will not close. Sometimes the door will close almost to the end and then recoil or the door will not close at all (it just beeps). A large number of people appear to be having this issue with all sorts of fixes that are not solving the problem (https://www.odyclub.com/forums/81-2018-odyssey/309801-driver-s-side-sliding-door-stopped-closing.html#/topics/309801?page=6) and appears related to nhsta complaint number 10136418. Dealer inspected and replaced motors on both doors per honda's recommendation. Problem immediately reappeared making it so the door cannot be closed unless disengaging the power to the doors, exiting the vehicle, and manually closing the doors. It happens every day and is getting worse.
A humming or bass sound at different speeds in motion, bbmmmmmbbmmmm noise also a humming and static from the radio when vehicle is off and sitting still off and on at different intervals, some days you have it and others you don't.
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. While stationary, the vehicle would not turn off when prompted. On more than one occasion, all of the doors failed to open when prompted by the key fob. In addition, the brake mitigation engaged with a visual and audio alarm; however, there was no other vehicle around. Furthermore, the instrument panel indicators did not illuminate when the vehicle started and the cross-traffic monitor malfunctioned and had to be turned off. Del ray honda (2500 south federal highway, del ray beach, fl) was made aware of the series of failures. The battery and the tuners were replaced on the vehicle, but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and provided the contact with case number: [xxx]. The failure mileage was 636. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
At random times either stationary or moving, the audio multi function unit will lock up and disable various features of the car including security systems and climate control.i have taken this vehicle to the dealer and they state that there is no fix for it and that i should turn it off and back on to try to reset it.sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.as there have been several recalls already concerning electronic controls and safety systems i'm concerned that this randomly present malfunction could create a critical system failure at an inopportune time resulting in an accident.
The center console, which is the monitor that utilizes gps navigation, rear view camera display, controls heat/ac, volume control, etc. Has continued to fail since date of purchase (7/15/17). The monitor shuts down at random times, for unidentified reasons, leaving the driver, distracted and attempting to resolve. The shut down can occur while in the van is moving or stationary. Navigation shuts down while the driver is in route to a location causing significant distraction. When the system shuts down the heat/ac also shut down forcing the driver to manually adjust, which while driving is an unnecessary distraction. Honda was made aware of this problem in august 2017. We brought our van in to the shop twice and no resolution was found. We filed a complaint with honda america (voice mails are retained as record). After several months of no resolution, honda american told us our case was being closed because the company continued to have no resolution. 7 months after purchase the center console/monitor continues to randomly fail. Sometimes the monitor goes black, some features work while others stop (for example the radio may work while the screen is black). Sometimes the monitor goes blue and everything shuts down. Photos and videos of these occurrences were submitted to honda via email. The promoted features by honda america lead the buyer to believe there is added safety in this van. The opposite has turned out to be true. These failures cause serious safety concerns for the driver and the young families utilizing the van.
On march 24, my 2018 honda odyssey shifted into park at 65 mph on i-95 in philadelphia. The honda rep, oliver (a honda employee), explained to my husband that when the computer in the car connected to the collusion avoidance sensor disconnects, a computer assumes the car is off and that forces the car into park regardless of the speed it is going.this is what happened when i was driving, the entertainment panel screen went blank and while it was rebooting, i lost all control of the car, no gas, no brake, steering was difficult.when it reboot, it was in park and the engine made a terrible noise like metal hitting metal.i was barely able to steer the car to the side of the highly with my three children ages 8 months, 2 years and 4 years old in the car.the honda rep believes the problem has to do with the way the power cable is connected to the battery.he explain that this caused the sensors to disconnect intermittently.the rep, oliver, blamed the problem on the dealership during their repair of the car for an unrelated issue.however, this is incorrect.the car front sensor have been losing connection to the computer since we took it home before the dealership touched the battery.there are other issues with this car's electrical and computer system that i would not bring up, but oliver's description of the car computer system makes it relevant.he explained that the car has 6 computer connected with ethernet cables.much of the work for the basic function of the car and transmission is done by the computer that also runs the entertainment system, the big screen common in the front panel of cars.oliver explained when one computer gets bogged down, it takes the entire system down.our car and a lot of other 2018 honda odyssey have a known flaw that honda has not fixed in well over a year.the bug, take the camera and retainment system down
Transmission hesitates when accelerating from a stop; transmission hesitates between gears while driving; transmission indecisive and slams into a gear and hesitates again when pressing accelerator - all causing loss of acceleration; all warning lights come on and have to jump the van daily to get it to start even though battery is still good and no accessories are on; if there's no power, cannot shift car into neutral to position car to jump or tow it; lose power to multiple systems and have to hold button to reset it; cannot access battery to jump or replace without removing air intake; while driving at highway speeds, unexpectedly lose acceleration like the vehicle shut off; issues with both sliding doors not opening or closing automatically; latch on gas tank door sticks and there is no manual release to open it - had to disassemble it multiple times to put gas in the car; numerous recalls in addition to the above; vehicle is now out of warranty period with unresolved safety and mechanical issues; have experienced issues since the vehicle was purchased new ~august, 2017.
Bought new in oct 2018.has 39,000 mostly highway miles on van now.feb 17, 2020 - vehicle was stationary in my driveway.failure occurred when i put the transmission into "reverse" to activate the camera.no image was displayed, but a blank (black) screen with message: camera system failure.how is that failure even possible - no exterior damage to camera whatsoever?the camera isn't a stressed part like engine parts. Why is the camera failing so soon?
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. While driving various speeds, the vehicle shifted into neutral gear without warning. The failure occurred intermittently. The check engine and collision warning indicators illuminated. Honda of olathe (1000 n rogers rd, olathe, ks 66062, (913) 782-3636) diagnosed that the fuse and the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,000. The vin was unavailable.
From the day i bought my car the brakes have squealed when applying them at a low rate of speed.there have been multiple times i have tried to accelerate and the gas took an extended time to work. Once i was trying to switch lanes and when i accelerated the van didn't go any faster and i almost causedan accident.the van shifts extremely hard.everything the van shifts around 20-30 mph the entire vehicle jolts back and forth. This is a huge safety issue and the dealers will not acknowledge it.i have reached out to honda's corporate number but they refuse to help.they have replaced the brakes, fluids and fuel injectors but all the issues still remain.i have also had a few issues with the sound system not working properly but have not mentioned that to the dealership or honda corporate.
The car has 27,000 miles on it. The engine mount is being replaced due to it being bad, the radio is very delayed and crashes and the sliding door keeps sticking and i have to force it closed.
The pinch sensor keeps breaking which then causes the door panel to separate and the window to detach from the vehicle. This is not the first time since we bought it that this has happened.
When closing the power sliding door, it reverses direction.
The rearview camera isn't functioning. The infotainment screen will not shut off when the vehicle is turned off, and the rearview camera is never displayed when the car is in reverse.
Horn on 2018 honda odyssey (elite & touring trim levels) for sure.horn is a single tone low note and is barely noticeable and woefully inadequate.yesterday while traveling on a not very busy country road, i activated horn at about a dozen buzzards feasting on some roadkill in the roadway and had to come to an almost complete stop before they moved.they were more intimidated by presence of my vehicle than horn blaring at them.sounds stupid, i know, but it emphasizes problem.horn is almost entirely unnoticeable and does not get or attract attention, which makes it a definite safety concern.it does not "command" your attention and is not easily heard over ambient noises.horn on my previous 2013 odyssey was a dual tone horn and much louder and drew attention immediately.i seriously doubt the factory installed horn meets federal standards for decibel level.not that it matters but it just sounds pitiful coming from an almost $50,000 fairly large vehicle.honda has truly dropped the ball on this safety item and i believe it is enough of a concern to replace this lousy horn with a much louder dual tone horn at my own expense.someone there should take a look at this issue.this issue comes into play at any time the horn is needed to attract attention or alert someone to any number of situations and needs to be corrected before someone gets hurt or killed.
The vehicle completely shuts down and off intermittently when the auto idle stop function is engaged. This happens when we are in traffic on a highway and streets or at stop signs and stopping briefly and and the vehicle goes into park and must be re-started by pressing the "on/off" button. It is very scary and dangerous. Also i getan error message saying the vehicle's "heated seat system problem". Secondly the vehicles collision warning comes on when there is nothing around and says the passenger side sliding door is open when it is not.
2018 honda odyssey. Consumer writes in regards to problems with electrical equipment. *ld
When we start the engine all the errors come up saying that the vhs failed, the electronics stability failed, brake system failed and all the other components.we have purchased 2 odyssey and they both have that problems.when we called honda they told us to repair it as it was our fault.after few starts it goes away.we went to our mechanic and they reset the codes and it has gone away for now but there is an on going issue with the odyssey. So honda has recalled the pilot but not the mini van.same problems.
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. While driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle jerked and the engine revved. The contact stated that the engine remained on, but the vehicle did not shift into drive or reverse. All the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. Prior to this, while driving different speeds, the vehicle decelerated, lost power, and shut off. The vehicle was taken to perfection honda (2603 american rd se, rio rancho, nm 87124, 505-221-5084) where it was determined that there was no failure. The failure recurred several times and the vehicle was taken to the same dealer who was unable to duplicate the failures. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that they would be investigated. The contact stated that nothing was done. Also, whenever the spare tire was in use, all the safety systems, such as the lane keep assist, lane departure warning, collision mitigation system, and the adaptive cruise control system turned off. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer who was unable to duplicate the failures and stated that the vehicle was operating as designed. The contact was provided a loaner vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
In the middle of the night my car alarm went off for no reason and i was unable to turn it off because the car was stuck in a loop of powering on and off. An error message on the dash suggested a failure of engine auto idle. I pushed the engine auto idle override button and managed to turn car off. Next morning i jump started it and was able to drive it for a few errands. The following day the alarm went off again. This time pushing the engine auto idle override did nothing. I was able to stop the alarm, but could not break the loop of the car powering on and off. I had to let the battery die. I tried jumping it again but it now won't power on long enough to try to start. Honda told me i was on my own to get it towed in. Tow truck came but there is a serious defect in the transmission ' there is no way to manually shift this vehicle into neutral. You must be able to power the car on and use the transmission push buttons to shift to neutral. Honda is refusing to provide assistance getting the car in to be looked at. I'm lucky this power on/off loop didn't happen while driving, but a piece of trash van sitting in my driveway unable to be moved does me no good either.
Cabin watch screen goes black and shows error "camera system problem image cannot be displayed".this occurs while in use traveling.continues to happen intermittently.
We came home from the movie theater (which was only 5 miles away) and parked our car in the our driveway. When my husband turned off the car, we immediately smelled something burning. We see smoke coming up from the hood of the car. My husband, kids and i immediately got out of the car and see wafts of smoke rising from the hood. We see fire at the under bed of the car. Within 3 minutes fire was coming up through the hood of the car. The entire hood of my car was up in flames (4-5ft tall) within 5 minutes from smoke to full fire.firefighters thankfully put out the fire within 8 minutes from when it started. The hood had disintegrated and the entire engine and all the parts in the hood were burnt and melted. My windshield shattered from the heat. This car was less than 2 years old, 37,000 miles on it. It was bought and service los regularly at the dealership. There is no reason why the car would just combust out of the blue. Called honda of america with no avail. And refusal of any investigation. The entire incident was captured on our security camera.
New 2018 honda odyssey elite (10-speed transmission) driving on highway and many error messages appeared about steering system, brake system, lane departure system and other failures.car started having problems downshifting.high rpms for speeds where it should be lower.sent to dealer for 1 week.dealer replaced powertrain command module and o2 sensor.messages disappeared.1 week after that, transmission started having problems downshifting again while driving on highway.parked van and center console screen went black then had broken lines of pixels in one or two places.
I've had my 2018 honda odyssey touring for 2 months; it has 2600 miles.my vehicle shifted into park while driving 70mph on the interstate!the car made a popcorn/gravel slamming against the car sound while felt as though the bottom half of the van was trying to separate from the top!!talk about frightening!it briefly flashed ""collision mitigation"-something,, but itwas just on thescreen for a half-second.i pulied over to the side of the highway, put my foot on the brake and pressed the drive button.it happened again maybe 10 minutes later on a busy road traveling at 45mph.i arrived at my first destination, researched how to turn off the collision mitigation system, and continued to my second destination. It happened twice on the highway on the way to that destination, flashing the same warning so quickly that i couldn't read it, same noise, vibration. I called the dealership from which i bought it. They towed the vehicle to the dealership. They could not reproduce the problem. "best educated guessed" that the battery was the problem, though i never received a low battery warning from my vehicle, and they performed a battery reset procedure.the dealership expects me to drive my family home in this vehicle without changing or even inspecting the transmission or parking pawl, which was the cause of the load popcorn/gravel noise. I have contacted honda and a case has been opened.
The issues started while still under warranty. It started with the entertainment system crackling and cutting out. Then the car would not start or would rough start and i was told the battery has a bad cell (now 1200 miles out of warranty) and needs to be replaced.while driving the right sliding door notification light came on and the door no longer opens. I just received a notice that there is a recall for the back up camera.this is the 3rd recall having to do with the electrical system.i believe the electrical system issues are what damaged the battery and that honda should pay to replace the battery and fix the door issue. Because it is about 1500 miles out of warranty, honda will not cover the repairs. I am getting an independent mechanic to weigh in. I just saw there was a recall in may 2019 for loose battery connectors.i never received this recall and am trying to determine if my vin was excluded, and if so, why.honda clearly does not stand by its product.
On 30 dec 2018 as my family and i drove through osceola county, florida, our odyssey displayed an error message that read, "some driver assist systems cannot operate: radar obstructed."the temperature was around 70 deg f and it was moderately foggy.the message cleared itself after 20-30 minutes and the driver assist systems came back online.we did not see any such error for the rest of our trip.at the end of our trip, on 3 jan 2019, when my family and i were just outside charlottesville, virginia, the vehicle proceeded to brake quite aggressively without driver input, as if it were avoiding a collision.it occurred near mile marker 115 on i-64 westbound, on a downward slope at dusk on dry pavement.we were perhaps 1000-1200 ft from the exit itself, well beyond the range of the 'extra long' setting on the acc at 70 mph.the only cars in front of us were already at the exit and did not appear to be undergoing any unusual maneuvers.this off-ramp is particularly long at this exit so i would not anticipate that those vehicles just entering the ramp were decelerating rapidly.i was using acc and lkas, as i had during most of our trip.when the van was braking, i instinctively depressed the throttle pedal to try to maintain speed.that resulted in the engine revving and no change to the hard braking.i disengaged the acc using the 'cancel' button and that appeared to end the hard braking (i may have briefly depressed the brake pedal at the same time but cannot be sure).i will also estimate that we went from around 70 mph to around 30-40 mph in those 2-3 seconds.there was no obvious external reason for the emergency braking maneuver instigated by the honda's onboard system.this presented a significant potential hazard.we were very fortunate that there were no vehicles immediately behind us or we would have run a very high risk of rear collision.
In the summer the backup camera will occasionally stop working and the message "camera too hot" will appear on the information screen.honda states this is normal operation.i believe this is a safety hazard that honda should resolve.
2 different times i have come to a stop at at stop light and when i go to start again the car turns off and goes into park. Luckily it has happened at no speed but very terrifying to think you are in drive the car shuts off and you are in park. Also on 2 separate occasions i have come out in my garage (after the car has been off and parked for a few hours) and my car is in accessory mode and then the battery is drained. I had the keys out of the car and no one else was home both times. So car is going into accessory mode without keys or a person in the car.
On saturday, 1/27/18 at 9:17am mountain time we were driving in a residential neighborhood following a silver suv.as we approach an intersection with a green light, the suv in front of us turned on their blinker to slow down to make a right turn.we were following behind at a safe distance.the suv slowed down considerably to make the turn, but we remained behind at a safe distance as the suv made the turn.the automatic collision detection system on our honda odyssey flashed a warning, as i've seen before, and the warning was appropriate given the situation.the suv completed its turn and i reapplied the gas in the intersection.as i did so, the vehicle automatically braked, very hard, causing us to almost come to a complete stop in the intersection.i assume that we were traveling at a speed of appx 15 miles per hour as we entered the intersection.we were almost rear-ended by the car behind us (who honked at us, and with good reason).there was absolutely no need for the automatic braking to engage in this situation.furthermore, the braking would have happened much too late to avoid a collision had one been imminent.the feeling of losing control of driving your own vehicle is extremely unsettling.while i like the idea of the automatic braking feature, this event is incredibly concerning.no one was hurt and nothing was damaged luckily.but, this easily could have caused a significant accident.
Entire dash turned off while driving including speedometer and information screen-replaced radiohead. All warning lights came on while driving-replaced fuel injectors. Popcorn sound and warning light came on while driving after picking up car from getting fuel injectors replaced-stating it's a bad rear entertainment system. I bought my car 1 year ago and it's obviously flawed.
While driving on i65 the driver's screen that displays speed, rpms, fuel gauge, etc went completely black for approximately 30 seconds.
Crakling sound on dash from side to side, noisy and stronger by the weeks. Took ca to the dealer with 12k miles; three attempts were made. Honda service replaced the audio system, next attempts they said it was my iphone cable. Now, with 14k miles, can't use radio, bluetooth, carplay and the ent system freezes. Any call i make or receive, the cracklin starts and call freezes until gets disconnected. Does not matter if the car is parked or on the road.have more than 10 videos showing the problem. Will go now to the 4th attempt to see if it can be fixed.
1. ) fuel efficiency is not as reported; it is several mpgs lower under all conditions (highway/city). 2.) safety sensor to alert for pedestrians on sides/front do not work properly. Even service rep at dealership said she has had other reports of it not functioning properly and the sensors/system may need to be 'reset'. It is incredibly dangerous to think these systems can fail without any warning message or notice. Car was at a stop and as it started moving forward, a pedestrian came from the right front and was nearly hit. There were no advance warnings, audio/visual to alert the driver. Also after checking with a friend, we could not trigger the alert walking from right to left (from side to front) of vehicle. No accident occurred, thankfully, but people need to know these systems fail and need to be checked to notify of oncoming pedestrians/bikers/vehicles.i bought this expensive vehicle because it had 'sensors' and thought it would be far safer according to sales guy. Not the case. The public is being misled.
Vehicle requires a jump start at least once a day in the course of normal use, no lights left on, no doors left open, no use of accessories without the car running. We will drive the car somewhere, be there for any length of time from 5-10 minutes at a gas pump to a few hours at a family members hour or a few days on a camping trip. The next time we try to start the vehicle, it will not start without a jump. This is the vehicle my wife and children use and i have to keep a portable jump starter in the car to avoid my wife and kids being stuck waiting for aaa to come jump the vehicle. 2 years old, just over 17,000 miles and we have had it in the dealer for multiple days and they tell us there is nothing wrong with it. This has to be some kind of electrical glitch or problem and it's frustrating that honda has no answers.
Driving at low speed about 25mph, the dashboard where the speedometer and odometer is located went completely black for about 10 seconds.
Getting keyless start system problem on honda odyssey 2018 model.delar reset code, warning came back again in 5 days
When i got into the car, i had just started the car up and there were warning lights for the blind spot information system not working; other things that weren't working were the heated seats or the rear climate controls. Later that day, the backup camera screen was black. This is unacceptable for my 2018 touring that is almost 50k!
I have been increasingly concerned with the automatic brake feature, which activates at times in a surprise.it is too "touchy" in slow city traffic, and i am afraid that i can get rear-ended if/when it activates.nothing has happened yet.the worst problem is when traveling on a two-lane highway with speed limits in the range of 45-55 mph.when the road is turning to the right, the sensor will pick up oncoming traffic (because it sees the oncoming car as in my line of travel) and put on the brake.this is very unsafe, and i almost lost control on one occasion.i have since learned i can turn this feature off, but it reactivates every time the car is restarted.thus i have to remember always to turn off the feature when i restart the car.this is annoying, and can still lead to a problem if i forget to turn it off.the most frightening experience was on/about august 7, 2019.i was traveling south on u.s. 31 about 15 miles south of charlevoix, mi.the highway curved to the right, and suddenly the automatic brake deployed as an oncoming carapproached.my speed was ~55mph (the speed limit) and i believe the oncoming car was doing the same.the sudden action of the automatic brake feature really surprised me, and i was fortunate to maintain control of the car.this so-called safety feature is more help than i need.please tell car companies not to add this feature.if they feel they must do it, please require a permanent shut-off feature
The vehicle is slowing at low speed and it gives an impression that break is being applied when there is no break being applied.
Vehicle is not shifting at all, doesn't go right away when pedal is pressed, park, drive, reverse buttons flash on dashboard when car is on. All sensor lights come on with issues.
Odyssey transmission system problem and blind spot system problem messages and issue surfaced several times while we were driving on the turnpike, i was unable to backup the vehicle at service plaza and also was unable to backup vehicle while parking on our home driveway! not able to backup vehicle is a huge safety and security issue. I tried calling honda roadside assistance, but was told tow truck was restricted on ohio turnpike. Issue surfaced several times.dealer looked at the issues and performed diagnostic service. Dealer determined ' after codes were cleared, issue could not be duplicated'. Iam not convinced the problem is fixed. I would like to know if there are any known issues like this on 2018 odyssey's with 10 speed auto, electronic press button transmission!a case 11543835 has also been opened with honda , but have not received any response yet.
The car turned on the engine light indicating misfire in all the engine cylinders the dealer informed me that it was due to the fuel injector system and they changed them they gave me the car but it no longer worked i returned to the dealer and they told me that i have to pay forthat they uncover the engine and find out the damage that was allegedly caused by the injectors with factory defects and that i have to pay for the repair of the engine to change it if necessary with my money.
The car has 27,000 miles on it. The engine mount is being replaced due to it being bad, the radio is very delayed and crashes and the sliding door keeps sticking and i have to force it closed.
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the engine made an abnormal knocking sound during acceleration. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to saco honda (754 portland rd, saco, me 04072, (207) 282-0900) where it was diagnosed that a new lower bearing, short box, pistons, cylinders, and crankshaft needed to be installed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and wanted the contact to sign off on a $2,500 promotion to keep the vehicle. The failure mileage was 9,373.
Our 2018 honda odyssey elite has intermittent issues with the auto start/stop feature.as context, the car engine will automatically stop when the vehicle is fully stopped, for example at a red light, and a few other conditions are met (brake pedal pressure, battery charge, electrical load).our vehicle when auto stopped may stall when attempting to resume driving.when the driver releases the brake pedal and pushes the accelerator pedal, the car fails to auto start, or auto starts with warning messages.when the car fails to start, a variety of warning messages will be displayed on the dashboard.remediation varies.the car may respond to shifting to park and pushing the ignition start/stop button twice.at times, the car may not respond to shifting to park and ignition button actions.the only fix then seems to be a 'hard' shutoff that requires opening the driver door and pushing the ignition button, closing the door, pushing the ignition button, and shifting to drive.when the system partially fails, the front collision warning/mitigation system is temporarily disabled.my car is current on all recalls.i recently had dealer service, and they confirmed there are no known bulletins for this issue.the car is current on maintenance schedule and is otherwise in very good operation condition.this situation car be quite stressful when at a busy intersection, or when trying to pull out to merge into a major road from a stop.this failure could be very dangerous if you needed to move the vehicle quickly, for example if stopped near a railroad crossing.the auto start/stop system is enabled by default to improve fuel economy.it can be manually disabled, however it resets with each shutoff.i would permanently disable it, however, that is not possible apparently for epa reasons.i have videos showing this behavior.
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was restarted and immediately driven to the local dealer (sheehy honda, 7434 richmond hwy, alexandria, va). The vehicle was examined, but no failure was found. Approximately nine months later, the failure recurred. While reversing out of the driveway, the vehicle suddenly jerked and abruptly stopped when the transmission erroneously switched from reverse to the park position. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver side sliding door was faulty. The door unlatched while driving and the vehicle automatically turned off. A software update was performed to correct the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 80.
I bought the vehicle new on 07/10/2017.it has been towed into the dealership 3 times because it won't start.the first time it was towed in, the dealership replaced the battery.the second time it sat in my garage for two days.we were unable to start the van.the van has a keyless entry system.the van would not unlock, the lights on the dash wouldn't light up and it would not start.i called honda and they sent a tow truck for the car.the tow truck driver tried to start the van by jumping the battery and he could not start it.it was completely dead.it was towed to the dealership on that sunday.the dealership called me on monday morning and told me that couldn't find a problem with the van.they said it started right up.they said they tried to replicate the problem but could not.i picked the van up the following day.then on 07/19/2019 my wife drove the van to a local venue with the grandchildren.after about an hour, she came out to the van and it was completely dead again.i called honda and they sent another tow truck to pick it up.once again the tow truck driver attempted to jump start the van, and once again it was completely dead.the van was towed over to honda where once again they said they could not find a problem with the van.it started fine.they kept it two days checking it out and once again told me that they could not replicated the problem.this is the third time in 2 years that the van has to be towed in and they can't find the problem.i cannot believe that i have the only honda odyssey in the entire world with this problem and honda does not know what it is and find the problem.

The 2018 odyssey has many problems on the fuel injectors system thatcaused all checking engines lights on. The costs to repair is too expensive. Costs me 1650.00 at my local honda dealer
First incident in 2018, the minivan came to a quick complete stop unnecessarily.a car in front of me had made a quick turn, i was not in danger of running into the car.i had a driver behind me honking his horn.i could have been rear-ended.next incident occurred this month, march, 2019.driving down a street, 25 m.p.h. The car shut down completely.i had to pull over, the wheel was hard to turn.after pulling over, i started the car again and drove home.good thing i was not on a major interstate.both occurred on city streets.august 16, 2018 first incident.march 11, 2019. The vehicle has stalled while stopped at a traffic light. There also appears to be a problem with the electronics because the car will report that "this system has lost power. Push and hold the power button for more than two seconds to enable the system." the backup camera has also failed to turn on when the vehicle is put into reverse. See the attached photos for proof.
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the front driver's and passenger's side head lights displayed a horizontal line and above the horizontal line, no light was projected. Additionally, the light below the horizontal line was not adequate for safe driving. Keenan honda (4311 w swamp rd, doylestown, pa 18902) was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that another vehicle was brought in with the same issue, and the halogen bulbs were replaced with led bulbs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that they were aware of similar issues however, the vehicle needed to be diagnosed at the dealer. The contact was informed that the repair had to be paid for out of pocket or through the warranty coverage. The failure mileage was 36,000.
When driving with the adaptive cruise control on the vehicle frequently abruptly decelerates while trying to pass other vehicles.it does not matter if we are behind the vehicle we are trying to pass and pull out in the left lane, or if we are always in the left lane and just approach the vehicle we are trying to pass while always remaining in the left lane like on an interstate.our vehicle is always safely in our lane and doesn't come anywhere close to the vehicle we are attempting to pass.we have taken the vehicle to have the camera adjusted three times to no avail.it is unsafe to drive with the acc on as the abrupt deceleration can result in us getting rear-ended at passing speeds.we no longer use the acc feature of this vehicle when approaching other vehicles to pass.

The power steering stopped working while i was driveing. The lights for power steering, break problem, lane keeping assistant system and lane departure migration lights are all on in the dashboard. The power steering was hard to turn.
1. ) fuel efficiency is not as reported; it is several mpgs lower under all conditions (highway/city). All warning lights popped up when i was driving causing the vehicle to go into a safety mode. Took it to the dealership and had to replace the fuel injectors on a fairly new van!
2018 honda odyssey was purchased 3/16/2018 at west honda dealership located in las vegas. Not long after purchase, strong fuel, and similar chemical odor appeared, odor came out of the air vents directly. The odor is so strong that the vehicle would smell chemical and smoky for days. Odor always appeared during driving, the level of strongness caused nausea, cough, and headache. Addressed the issue to 2 different dealerships, with the mention of health concern and fire risk during driving. Both dealerships' service advisors verified the issue verbally, did diagnosis in 3 out of 4 total visits. Could not find the issue while odor presenting in the car; thus, no repair was done to fix the issue. Reports are collected, filed a complaint to the headquarter. Case manager admitted there is something wrong with the vehicle as similar cases with the same type of vehicle are heard from the same area. Being told that no inspection can be done without odor appears again and ignored the previous visits' results.

While traveling on city streets for 2 hours and 1 hour high way driving, during the middle part of the day for two days straight 6/21/18 and 6/22/18, the inside cabin of the van filled with a very strong smell of gaseous fumes. The overwhelming fumes lasted for approximately 3 hours on both days. Also leaving fumes in the car overnight which were detected as we entered the car the next day around 9:30 a.m. I took the car to honda auto nation in las vegas at 10:45 am. On 6/23/18. After two hours they notified me that there were no problems with the car. I was adamant in refusing to believe that there was not a problem and that my families life was not in danger. I was taken to two of the dealership's managers and was told by them that this is normal for the inside of the car to fill up with fumes on hot days and that i would just have to deal with it since the car filters the fumes to the front engine and then into the vehicles cabin. They told me that it was a government regulation that fumes not be transmitted to the environment but rather to the inside of the car, but first through filters. I have never experienced this before in my 30 years of driving new vehicles. I have just recently viewed information over the internet that there is a honda crv lawsuit for their 2015-2017 vehicles pertaining specifically to gaseous fumes from gasoline. I am terrified to use this vehicle. Not only did we have to endure the fumes for hours, but i am worried that our safety is at stake due to an explosion and or asphyxiation.

All warning lights popped up and continued to cycle through when i was driving causing the vehicle to go into a safety/limp mode. Shifting became very difficult and the maximum speed topped out at 45mph.
All my alerts came on when i started my vehicle this morning.a few weeks ago, the emission light came on - honda told me to come back if it doesn't turn off in a week.thought gas tank/new gas issue.then all alerts came on today.honda diagnosed as a issue with fuel injectors.out of warranty.$2,500.
Driving on i26 traveling east into charleston, sc in second from the left lane, driving at approximately 60 mph during busy rush hour. Suddenly, a large suv in the next lane to my left veered into my lane. I turned the wheel sharply to the right to avoid a collision, also similtaneously braking just enough to avoid a collision. I had moved approximately 1/2 a lane to the right. I turned the wheel to the left to come back into my lane.the vehicle suddenly began veering to the right and left as i was fighting to keep it under control. In the next 10-15 seconds, the van veered alternatively right and left about 5 times each until it stabilized. I was using all of my strength to keep the vehicle from taking off across lanes of traffic.i called honda north america and was essentially dismissed as i was told to just turn off my lane mitigation system, with no explanation or apparant care about what i had gone through. I went to my local honda dealer and explained what had happened. The service manager was concerned and told me he would get back to me.that was over a month ago and i have received no information from them. I do not know if this problem will repeat itself, or if it has ever been reported. I am quite concerned because this situation could have caused a devastation injury or fatility to my family and others.
Land departure system is automatically activated, but not turned on.periodically, even when not leaving the lane, system overrides my actions.rather frightful when unaware as to what is going on.it felt like a tug-of-war.this occurred while driving on two lane roads.

The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. While driving 55 mph, the passenger side sliding door became ajar without warning. The vehicle was taken to waldorf honda (2450 crain hwy, waldorf, md 20601, (301) 843-8700) where it was diagnosed that a software update needed to be performed on the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 3,000.
The automatic lock on the driver side sliding door fails to automatically unlock. The only way to unlock that door now is to awkwardly reach behind the driver's door.it feels unsafe because in the event of an emergency it could take extra time to unlock and open that rear door to assist children in the back of the vehicle.i bought this vehicle new about 3 and 1/2 years ago and have performed all scheduled maintenance.a local honda dealer inspected the vehicle and determined that there was corrosion in the fusebox/harness and that it would need to be replaced. The quote for parts/labor was more than $5000. It's unknown if other electrical failures will appear at a later date.no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The problem first appeared about a month ago.
Vehicle dash showed the following problems when parked in front of store at full stop: brake system problem, emission system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, hill start assist problem, vehicle stability assist (vsa) problem, power steering system (eps) problem, brake hold system problem.upon driving the vehicle to get home the vehicle would not accelerate above 40 mph.(your system will not allow me to upload pictures in jpg format)
Vehicle experiences rough shifting when slowing down and speeding up in stop in go traffic. It is like it falls into gear, and not a smooth shift. Very disappointed for a $33,000 purchase. This happens on the highway, or on residential roads.
I have had this very problem in my 2018 ex with nav res. I'll be on the highway, going 65mph+, and i will accelerate to change lanes or pass and the engine will seemingly stall for several seconds. As i press the gas, the car actually decelerates as if it's coasting in neutral. After a few seconds, it reengages, the engine revs a little, and the car begins acceleration. I also often notice that the van does a similar thing when i'm accelerating from a stop to enter traffic or make a turn. When i hit the gas, the car coasts forward for a second before actually accelerating. It is actually dangerous, especially since it has happened when there has been oncoming traffic. I have had it into the dealership multiple times and they 'can't replicate the problem.' today my dealership told me that i should open a case with honda, which i did. I was told that the 9-speed transmission was discontinued because consumers 'complained' and 'didn't like it.' they further said that they could not replicate the problem and therefore could not fix it. In the case of my van, it is defective and dangerous. My son is learning to drive and i am fearful for his safety. I have felt in danger in this car myself. When i asked about to whom i could speak to address my concerns, i was directed to 'page 2 of the online owner's manual.'this has happened on numerous occasions and has been into the dealership frequently without resolution.
Usually at lower speed(15~30mph), transmission struggles to shifting gear. And hesitates to shift.also, there is shift shock at low speed.it is worst in the morning.i went to dealer to check that condition and technician saidthat is normal.
Owner of 2018 odyssey exl resnav w/ 9speed atwife is primary driver and we recently returned from a road trip. Vehicle performs very smoothly 95% of the time. The other 5% you can expect abrupt and violent up and down shifts. Further, this is the safety vs annoyance issue, the vehicle will hesitate when accelerating from a stop. This is a factor threat when pulling into traffic. Hesitation can and will cause an accident. Honda of na needs to get to work and take responsibility for this unacceptable safety issue. Someone is going to be hurt.
The 10-speed transmission on my 2018 honda ex-l odyssey van slips.this has intermittently happened since the vehicle was new, but it is getting worse over time.the slippage occurs most often when starting after a stop.the engine will rev forto a full second before the transmission "catches" and starts to move the vehicle.sometimes the vehicle will start with a jerk, other times, the acceleration will be slow.this unpredictable acceleration makes it dangerous to pull out into traffic.i've had several "near miss" incidents where the unpredictable transmission performance almost caused accidents.this is a safety hazard and honda needs to repair it immediately lest lives be lost.
My 2018 odyssey at 62000 mileage right now, there is happen a lot of delayed response when accelerating, then start fast, it was scary while i am at middle of intersection waiting for left turn, or at stop site and or red lights. Is this an safety issue? i feel somedays i may get hit accident from this issue.
I had the honda odyssey in at least 8 times for a jerky transmission.it was actually replaced at 15,000 miles (1/21/19)with a new one, no problem for another 15,000.then in sept of 2019 the problem reappeared after 3 service calls and numerous fax and telephone calls basically honda customer care said i did not have a problem.then one day while driving thru busy downtown grand rapids the odyssey downshifted on its own while the wife and mother in law were driving.my wife almost lost control but was able to pull of the road.at that point i traded the car in.and sent a letter to honda customer care and betten honda in muskegon that i suggest the car comes off the road.as i know the next person will have the same problem.the issue is that transmission problem is random and unpredictable and can not be recreated or detected by a computer check.but it is very real.to the point where i was willing to lose 12,000 dollars.not an easy pill to swallow.my hope is that no one else gets hurt due to this problem, but i can see it coming.
With approxinately 10,000 miles on the vehicle, the transmission under performs.while driving, usually at speeds under 30mph, the transmission struggles to shift smoothly.it also makes a loud jerking sound and motion when shifting gears.the transmission also sometimes hesitates to shift, allowing you to be able to feel the van slow down while in process of shifting, approximately 2 seconds later you can hear and feel it go into gear.lastly, the pick up on the van is slower than most cars i have driven.
While driving, the car rattles badly when gear shifts down on a ramp at speeds of 15 to 30 mph.
The vehicle is having intermittent issues with the transmission shifting. The speed seems to vary, the range is between 24 and 33 mph. It seem to be most prevalent after being on the highway for a longer period of time, 45 minutes and longer. Then when aaccelerating gently from a stop it can lurch when shifting, or shift hard and make an audible clunk. Other times, not having been driven for any length of time, in the same speed range, 24 to 33 mph, during gentle acceleration it does not shift easily or smoothly. There is not necessarily a clunk (there can be), but it does not shift normally or smoothly, i would describe it a miss or lurch.in both cases it will shift, but not as it should.this began around 17,000 miles. I am noticing very fine vibrations in the steering wheel and throughout the front end, its not all the time, but it does not seem right. I am unable to associate it with any particular speed or stretch of road, but it did not do this when the vehicle was new.
Today.
All warning lights popped up and continued to cycle through when i was driving causing the vehicle to go into a safety/limp mode. Shifting became very difficult and the maximum speed topped out at 45mph.
Transmission slipping when accelerating from stationary position or whenever more speed is needed. Happens when going uphill or lane changing when more speed is needed.
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, multiple error messages were displayed on the instrument panel including the transmission system failure message and the vehicle began to severely shake and vibrate. In addition, the back-up camera would not operate. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer dch honda located at1101 u.s. 9, old bridge, nj 08857 was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 20,000.
The transmission in this vehicle lags and slips regularly when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. It is a major safety issue. We took the vehicle in to a honda dealer to service this problem under warranty and were told that the performance we are experiencing is normal for this specific transmission. It us unacceptable that honda would allow this transmission to be used by so many in such an unsafe way.
Auto shifting anywhere from 20-30mph results in hard shift or knock. When van is downshifting there is an acceleration or knock. Transmission was replaced at 22,000 miles. No explanation for the cause. This was noticed about 3 months into owning the vehicle brand new at 8 miles from a honda dealership. It took them 13 months of a continuous cycle of going into the honda certified shopfor them to believe us.now our vehicle at 25,000 miles continues to reproduce the same problem.
I'mowner of 2018 odyssey. I have 9-speed trans. This is mythird odyssey i own. I'm disappoint about this trans. Hesitation, shuddering, jerking, were some of the issues. In taking the odyssey into the dealership to address the issues they sad the model 2018-2019 with 9 speed trans. Just have problem. Wow i just have 31000mils. (my previous 2011 odyssey shiftwhit no problem) i was research and find lot off people have same problem , even someone filed class-action lawsuit alleges that the nine-speed zf 9hp automatic transmission. What i need to do?
While driving on a 50 mph, two lane road, the vehicle abruptly shifted into neutral autonomously after experiencing a transmission failure and prohibited the driver from retaking control of the vehicle. With no power available, the driver was ultimately forced to coast to a stop on the shoulder of the road.warning messages indicated a transmission failure, emission control failure, and blind spot monitoring failure. The car was towed to the nearest honda dealer.

When decelerating at the speed around of 25 makes a loud knocking sound and ships a radically
If i buy a new 2018 honda odyssey at around 4000 miles start having transmission problems at around five to six thousand miles i start getting a horrible toxic burning chemical smell coming from inside the car somewhere do you take it to the dealership they say nothing's wrong obviously there is something wrong with his doing what it's doing
I'm an owner of 2018 odyssey ex with 9-speed trans. This is my third odyssey i own. I have two 2016 and one 2018. I'm very disappoint about this 2018 trans and the lack of attention from honda regarding this known issue. From the part saleperson to the advisor, all noted the issue with these 9-speed transmission. Rattle, hesitation, shuddering, jerking, were some of the ongoing issues. I completed intense research and found tons of people have the same problem. I was rear ended due to this hesitation and miss gear issue while driving. The is a safety issue and needs to be addres before someone is serious hurt.
Without warning while driving transmission failed and dropped into a lower gear.this caused a sudden reduction in speed and difficulty in safely removing the vehicle from the highway.
Twice in the first year of ownership, the car was parallel parked and i put the vehicle in drive (push button sifter).upon the vehicle beginning to move in forward motion it would immediately shift back into park.i repeated an it did the same over and over again.even after shutting down the engine and restarting; i had the same issue.both times this occurred, had to go in reverse for a short distance in order to get the van to then move forward without almost instantly shifting back into park.in the second case there was no vehicle parked in front or behind me and i still had the same issue.i did record a video of the erratic behavior on 8/26/2018 (second time) .
Tried to pull out of parking lot across 2 busy lanes to make my turn and car went into idle while driving, hit the gas pedal since cars were coming at high speed at me and it woke up.a day later received a recall notice on my honda app called update park logic safety recall and scheduled appointment immediately for 4/29/19 to be told they get the same complaint often and cars brought in.the auto idle that comes on automatically should be activated by break pedal and woken up when let go but what they are saying is, it actually could get activated if someone with bigger feet accidentally touches the gas pedal.not sure that is true because nobody has that big of feet to press fully both gas and break pedal and idle does not come on unless break pedal is pushed all the way.this is serious issue if you try to pull out of parking lot into traffic and car just refuses to go but honda keeps sticking to same story and basically wants to make me believe both break and gas pedal were pushed at same time in the middle of the road which is not possible with my size 7 shoe and if that was the case why did the car move out of parking lot and die in the middle of the street?i possibly touched the gas pedal but definitely not pushed it and honda is telling me "safety system for the brake override is working as designed, if brake and gas pedal are pressed at same time the system thinks you are trying to slow down the vehicle so it cuts power to prevent accidental acceleration".but if i am pulling out in the busy street why would i be pressing brake and gas pedal, only gas to get away before i get taken out or cause an accident, this sounds like an excuse before someone gets seriously hurt.
On several occasions, i thought i put the car in park, only to have the car start rolling again, even if i got out of the car or took my foot off the brake.on one occasion, it rolled into my garage entry door to my home.caused hundreds of dollars damage to my door , and minor damage to the front bumper.warning system in car sounded, but auto brake system didn't activate to stop the car.
Auto shifting anywhere from 20-30 mph results in hard shift and knock. When van downshifts around 20-30 mph there is a jump of acceleration and knock.sometimes when accelerating and gears shift there is un expected jump in acceleration
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. While parking, stopping, and shutting off the engine, the vehicle rolled 4 to 5 inches when the brake pedal was released. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to brad barker honda (1602 general electric road, bloomington, il 61704, 309-663-9591) where it was determined that it was performing as designed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 30,000.
The transmission on this vehicle is super jerky when accelerating at low rates of speed and decelerating. The extreme concern is when accelerating from being completely stopped. More than once i have almost been in a major accident because when i pushed the accelerator the vehicle took a second or two to begin and once it accelerated it was extreme to the point of spinning the wheels and the vehicle being moved too late and in the middle of an intersection with a vehicle headed right towards us. If the car had accelerated when the gas was pushed like it should i would have not been in this predicament. This is very concerning and not how this vehicle should perform.
Car delays when attempting to accelerate when stationary. Car then lunges forward whenthe transmission engages. At times i'm stuck in the middle of the road as vehicles are approaching. Makes if very dangerous when attempting to cross road.
2018 honda odyssey with 9 speed transmission is dangerously unpredictable when accelerating. Especially from fully stopped condition. It does not matter whether advancing straight ahead or turning into either direction.terrain conditions do not seem to affect this behavior. The driver may experience widely variable responses to a consistent application of throttle. Vehicle may, without any way for the driver to predict, 1) accelerate with a normal predictable response to throttle pressure, 2) respond to the same throttle input by very slowly accelerating (even if the driver significantly increases throttle input) or 3) immediately. Not move at all while engine revs, then moments later, the vehicle will accelerate so rapidly that it launches into traffic or the tires first lose traction before it launches.in inclement weather the condition is exacerbated into an even more dangerous lack of vehicle control.
Having issue of acceleration at road speed.when doing road speed i have had flat acceleration when pressing gas pedal.almost feels as if vehicle is about to stall or decelerate. Dealer with vehicle and they can't find issue. Dealer claims they have not had any honda company reports about this.this event has happened several times.last event interesting is that this has happened when decelerating to enter ezpass express toll at at 50mph and then trying to accelerate to flow of traffic
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. The contact stated that while reversing at about 2 mph, the transmission went from drive to park without warning. The vehicle was taken to the genthe honda dealer, located at 15100 eureka rd, southgate, mi 48195, where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000. The vin was not provided.
The transmission seems to shift to neutral when i try to accelerate to make a right or left turn.it seems like the system is indecisive and it just revs as if it is in neutral.i bought this van new in 2017.my mechanic just did some work and noticed it on a test drive and says this transmission is made by a german company that has this known issue.this is a safety issue because i have almost been t-boned on turns because the car does not move and just rolls for 3-5 seconds.this is a known issue an needs to be fixed
This van was sold to me new from a honda dealer with an active recall.
Vehicle was stationary.i was sitting in the front passenger seat.i started to put on my seat belt, but when i pulled on the buckle, i found that the lower anchor point of the seat belt had come completely loose from the frame of the vehicle.no work has been done on that seat belt to my knowledge, so my assumption is that it came loose on its own.clearly this is a major safety issue and could have resulted in a severe injury or death if i had been in an accident just before this bolt came completely loose.
My son was in his car seat in second row behind driver's seat when he grabbed the seatbelt of the middle seat that attaches to the roof and wrapped around his neck. He started coughing when we noticed that he had wrapped the seatbelt around his neck we stooped the car and i went back to take him out but the seatbelt was locked and there is no way to unlock the seatbelt so we had to cut the seatbelt in order to take him out of it. I tried to complain at honda but they said nothing can be done as its the design of the vehicle and they can't do anything. But to me its really very dangerous we were lucky we saw him but a child can easily die because its so easy for any child to grab that seatbelt.i have attached the pic where it shows how that seatbelt works first it locks into 1 and then into the 2 latch. The 1 latch cannot be unlocked.
The second row seat behind the passenger side does not lock at times while vehicle is in motion. It would slide back and forth.i would have to park the car when on the road and try to lock the seat to prevent it from sliding again on the city street before getting onto the highway.the same seat don't lock forward at all when people from the third row seat is trying to get out. The seat would slide, and a few kids including my mother had already gotten injured from trying to get out from the third row seat of the passenger side. This happened when the car is not in motion, and people are trying to get out through the second row seat of the passenger side.my toddler's carseat is on the second row seat of the driver's side, so people are not able to get out through that particular side, and i feel that my toddler would be safer strapped onto a seat that actually locks in place.we noticed the issue after a week or two after the purchase of the new vehicle.
***2018 honda odyssey caught fire while operational****on 24th april 2019, on her way to drop our kid to school, my wife was driving our 2018 honda odyssey.all of a sudden, this vehicle got smoke at first and then caught fire while it was operational. My wife pulled over and took the kid out immediately. The passing by garbage truck driver started to control fire till cops and firemen team arrived. The fire was controlled by excellent efforts of that cop/truck driver. The fire appeared to have started near 3rd row driver side seat...my 3 year old was on the driver side 2nd row seat---just 1.5ft away from it. Luckily, my wife and child were not hurt. I've been following up with geico insurance, us honda (case# 09517538) rigorously. I am really inclined to know what went wrong with the vehicle that virtually threatened the lives of my wife and child. I am still awaiting response from them. One of my friends suggested me to report this incident to ntsb and they redirected me to nhtsa. My intent is to ensure that the root cause of this mishap can be identified and rectified asap by us honda as these honda odysseys are driven mostly by families with kids. I was under an impression from these followups that this incident has been reported to appropriate federal/state authorities. I just want to make sure that nhtsa help me in my quest to understand what really went wrong.
When i got into the car, i had just started the car up and there were warning lights for the blind spot information system not working; other things that weren't working were the heated seats or the rear climate controls. Later that day, the backup camera screen was black. This is unacceptable for my 2018 touring that is almost 50k!
I was driving my odyssesy on a city street and approaching a traffic signal. As i braked at the red light, my young child in the back seat pulled the black strap right in front of her, which released the middle seat to slide forward. The middle seat with my son in it (which was then in a free slide motion) flew forward with incredible momentum and slammed his head into the front seat. I now am watching him for signs of concussion and monitoring his front teeth which loosened up.the middle seat release should not be so accessible to young children. It should have either two points of action required to release the seat or be positioned more out of reach for young children. Currently the strap is so conveniently located within easy reach of a child in the rear seat and easy to pull. With the vehicle in motion, it is extremely dangerous for a chair to be able to slide freely and fold. This design flaw should be addressed with a recall.
At 25 mph the collision avoidance system unexpectedly engaged and braked with full antilock vibrations when there was no car within braking range.the car behind me braked hard and an accident was fortunately avoided.this occurred after dealing with the dealer over several days regarding phantom collision avoidance cautions occurring on a daily basis.the vehicle also braked autonomously without any car in front of it earlier in the evening.
While vehicle in motion, first time brake pedal gets soft and get pressed extensively to floor with loss of braking power, if u hit brake immediately after first press, brake pedal works normal. Again once u hit acceleration, and try to hit brake, first attempt of braking gets very soft and almost bottom out without much braking power then immediately second push to brake pedal becomes more normal and harder braking. Whole cycle keeps repeating.
My car shakes when i brake. Honda dealership tells me that's ok, the new brakes do that a little. My 2007 odyssey did not do this. I have taken to the dealer 3 times telling them about this issue.
The van brakes have squealed since brand new 2018 purchased, returned van and they installed new brake pads and possible other parts however the brakes still squeal, ive called and the dealership says they don't know whats wrong and don't know how to fix. The 2nd issue is the cds when played get very hot like on fire hot, took van in to get looked at. The dealership replace cd player . The fix did not work the new cd player still makes the cds very hot like its going to start a fire. The cds are so hot that i cant even hold them. I believe a fire will start
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. The contact stated while driving approximately 40-50 mph, the warning message "brake problem failure" appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who test drove the vehicle and informed the contact that they could not determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring upon starting and driving the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure started occurring after an unknown recall repair had been completed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 36,170.
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. Within months of owning the vehicle, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the brake system. The dealer (atlantic honda, 1375 sunrise hwy, bay shore, ny 11706, (631) 665-0005) test drove the vehicle and heard the noise, but was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
The power steering stopped working while i was driveing. The lights for power steering, break problem, lane keeping assistant system and lane departure migration lights are all on in the dashboard. The power steering was hard to turn.
My car has been issued a recall and i made an appointment with honda autonation chandler az; when i arrived, the dealership said they didn't know how to fix it and said to go to tempe honda instead.
The front rotors warped and cause the steering wheels and front end of the car to shake whiling breaking at high speed.shaking isn't noticeable under 30mph but the fast you go, the worst the shaking becomes.we had this issue with our older 2012 odyssey and there was a recall for the it.when i ask the dealer about this issue, i was told there is no recall list for it and i will have to pay for replace my breaks and rotors.
The power steering stopped working while i was driveing. The lights for power steering, break problem, lane keeping assistant system and lane departure migration lights are all on in the dashboard. The power steering was hard to turn.
Land departure system is automatically activated, but not turned on.periodically, even when not leaving the lane, system overrides my actions.rather frightful when unaware as to what is going on.it felt like a tug-of-war.this occurred while driving on two lane roads.
Both driver and passenger side rear sliding doors often fail to close using the electric closing system.this is dangerous if not noticed because the doors are not latched.this happens while the vehicle is stationary.
Sliding doors do no close at times.it is inconsistent and when taken to the dealer they cannot replicate.there are numerous complaints online as well as videos of the issue.i had an issue where the passenger sliding door stopped opening altogether.the dealership said they replaced the mechanism that opens the door as well as the sensors on both sliding doors to address the closing of the doors.the passenger door was able to open once more, but not even a week after i experienced the issue with closing the doors once again.to close the doors, we need to repeatedly press the close button when the doors are trying to open back up, but that doesn't always work.this is a safety hazard for various reasons.
The electrical sliding door is opening on its own at night. I was not sure if this was recalled on this vehicle. I could not find it. We also had a 2007 honda odyssey that the sliders had the same issue and was recalled. I believe this is recalled for doors opening while driving. It had happened previously before happening last night.
When automatic sliding door open/close is enabled the door will open, but will not close. When the doors are placed in manual mode, the door panel comes loose from the force of the door closing making it so the door cannot be opened because the loose door panel extends out just far enough to wedge itself like a door stop.
Both rear doors become stuck and completely inoperable. The power door mechanism has failed and now the door is completely stuck in the closed position. There is no way to manually open the door from the inside or the outside.
Panel behind the gas pedal and brake pedal is missing. This exposes a large area of electrical wires. A driver will easily be able to get his feet there while stretching his legs and intentionally mess up the wiring. This is an electrical fire hazard and also a safety hazard. Pictures uploaded. Earlier models (2006 which i own) has a majority if this area covered by panel. I contacted the dealer and they said it is normal for 2018 models of odyssey.
Sudden 'pop' noise was heard as coming to a stop on exit ramp of highway. Found out that the sunroof glass was brocken in pieces. Took it to dealer and they determined that something must have hit it without looking at the vehicle. Investigation needs to be done on vehicle prior to customer paying for the since american honda would not pay for the glass. The dealer wrap the glass over but still thorough investigation has not been done. Called american honda and they filed it as complaints and believes what dealer says since technician is their investigator. Vehicle has not been looked at by any technician yet.
The pinch sensor keeps breaking which then causes the door panel to separate and the window to detach from the vehicle. This is not the first time since we bought it that this has happened.
Passenger sliding door stuck in open position as the latch has broken.door will not closed into position.i tried to close using manual and automatic door closing options to no avail. Luckily it happened in my driveway so no injuries or accidents.
When closing the power sliding door, it reverses direction.
Power sliding doors sitting on the exterior body when opened.doors open again right after pressing close button.
Purchased vehicle towards the end of the month of february 2018, thirty days later the driver front door would not open from the outside. Tried unlocking the door from the key fob and door remained locked. Inserted the key in the cylinder and was a bit hard to turn the cylinder to unlock. In order to open the door i had to open the rear driver slide door and come in through the back to open the door from the inside. Even then the inner door handle was hard to pull. This create an issue and inconvenience as this is a family car, having this issue in very humid day only makes it worse. I have read online that people are complaining about this issue and the dealers do nothing to fix this issue. I have taken it to our local dealer and they said that honda is currently investigating the issue. It has been like this for months.
Metal bar on the side slide back causing can't close tail gate or hard to open.honda doesn't know what cause it.i am not sure whether it has to do with sliding door recall that it not latch (which already fixed) or slide door push this side metal bar back when open.honda tech said they saw it in more than 5 vehicles, it catched it before 35k,honda will cover under warranty.but my car is over 35k so it not cover even under extend warranty.it costs $140 to replace.i am more concern for my kids safety,if they don't know what cause it.it happened after i come in for recall of power replacement in the back.
The right back sliding doors does not close when the close button is pressed. I have to put the car on manual operation to drag the door shut. Even then, it is not completely shut the "open door " alarm goes off for up to 10 miles and then eventually the door shuts completely .
Since late last year, my 2018 odyssey had been having some issues with the sliding door. Sometimes it doesn't close till i hit the button multiple times so finally, i took it to the dealership. They told me my cess harness is kinked and would cost me $485 for replacing it. The door had at least a couple of different recalls in the past year. The vehicle has only 6500 miles and these wires are not suppose to go bad that fast.
Automatic door on the passenger side closes as passenger tries to get out of the van.door bounces back and forth and almost injured the passenger.on a separate occasion, the same passenger side door was being opened from the outside and halfway after it opened it bounced and closed almost injuring my son and the preschool teacher.
The sliding door can't be physically close after it was open, the vehicle can't continue to drive to a destination with the open door if kids inside, and the door can't be closed even manually.
The car has 27,000 miles on it. The engine mount is being replaced due to it being bad, the radio is very delayed and crashes and the sliding door keeps sticking and i have to force it closed.
One of my friends suggested me to report this incident to ntsb and they redirected me to nhtsa. My driver side sliding door won't close all the way and keeps reopening when i am in park position. It has been looked at multiple time and recalls have been done but still does it every day. Because it doesn't do it all the time the dealership doesn't want to fix it. It's been doing it since we bought the car new since 2018.
Driver's side sliding door won't close.the issue actually presented itself the day we purchase it and they service department called it a "hiccup".when trying to close the door, the sensor beeps three times and then reopens. I have to disengage the doors to manually close it or be ready to "help" the door continue on the track to closing. Passenger side sliding door completely stops in the track half way without warning or any beeping. I took the van back to the dealership over a month ago and they said that they still have not heard back from honda (as of today) as to what needs to be done to correct this issue.
The passengers side sliding door would not open automatically. The open/close button on the dash would not open the door either. The key fob wouldn't open it.we shut off the automatic door feature and the door still would not open manually. This is a huge safety issue. After driving the car home, the door opened without issue.
While vehicle is stationary, after closing the rear door. The door latch will not always hold the rear door in a fully closed condition, causing a door open warning condition. It may take several attempts to forcefully slam the rear door closed before it locks correctly. This happens multiple times each month. On vehicle without auto closing rear door option.
The sliding rear door on the passenger side does not fully latch, thus the door remains slightly ajar.it remains as such while vehicle is in motion.
I have found the power sliding door open when i returned to my parked van. This has happened about 4 times. I have taken my van for recall 18v-795 which has to do with the power sliding door components, but i found my side sliding door open again even after the recall fix. So i think honda has not completely fixed the whole problem.
Customer states intermittently right side sliding door does not close properly, sliding door ajar light comes on while driving, right side sliding door will not close using automatically, having to manually/forcefully push door close, has happened twicedealer ship did not do anything as they are not able to duplicate the issue. This is safety concern as it is happening while car is in motion and the door is opening. With kids on board it is always risky. I stopped letting them sit on that side.
I was driving our 2018 honda odyssey elite on highway and the sunroof glass exploded. We only have 2500 miles on the car.the honda dealer of bellevue wa are trying to make us pay because they didn't find anything wrong with the sunroof. We will make a complain with honda of america.
Vehicle was parked off street in freezing cold overnight, upper twenties, 32f when this happened. Vehicle is parked not in motion, remote started.driver door would get locked immediately when unlocked from outside, multiple tries to pull the door handle would unlock and lock immediately and eventually open the door. Once driver gets in, and closes the door, it is locked from inside and would not open. Door lock switch, driver door handle and key fob fail to open the door from inside. Only way to get out of the vehicle is through a passenger door. If the vehicle is unlocked, driver door can be opened from outside but not inside, just like a child lock works on a passenger door. Another tricky way to open driver door is to unlock, roll down the driver window and pull the handle from outside.
The contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. While the vehicle was parked, the contact was removing items from the vehicle with the passenger sliding door open. The sliding door would inadvertently close, causing the contact to become pinned between the sliding door and the door frame. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified. The failure mileage was 15,000.
The rear tailgate shocks have weakned up with vehicle just having 32500 miles. When you open rear automatic tailgate the tailgate opens completely and starts to slowly lower down while unloading belongings. When you suddenly looking back the tailgate will be half way down and can hit over head. I myself got hurt and don't let my wife use it.
The front suspension struts makes popping noise when steering vehicle extreme left or right and parking lot speed. If you turn complete right or left while vehicle is stand still and start driving, you hear these noise like axle cracking.got it inspected with local mechanic and he said its struts making these noise which is surprising because vehicle is only 3 years old and only has 32500 miles. He said this noise has no safety risk but contact honda dealership to see if they have any recall associated to it.
When i slowed to a stop, the carsuddenly died in the middle of the street and went into park.the air conditioner continued to run, we could not get it out of park.my concern is that the dealer says this has never happened before.i'm hearing from many sources that this has happened to them - even while moving.they can't seem to find out what's wrong, but i'm concerned that it's something major.it may also be dangerous if this happens while i'm driving, and i guess i don't trust the dealer.i'm just notifying you to make a record of this in case this turns out to be something more than just a quick fix..
On monday, june 18, 2018 at about 8:00 am my wife was sitting stationary at a stoplight and the window in the rear hatch exploded.there were no other cars/vehicles around her and the weather was clear. The window exploded for no visible reason.the glass shattered everywhere into the rear part of the van and rear seat area.we brought the van to inver grove honda in inver grove heights, mn (where we purchased the van new in december, 2017) and they refused to classify this as a defect and directed us to file a claim with our insurance company (which we did).they did provide us with a loaner car for free and helped us work with a glass replacement shop.however, i feel this is a manufacture defect, the glass hatch window should not have exploded for no reason.
Just purchased this van, brand new, less than 2 months ago.when driving my car, and in the midst of a turn into oncoming traffic, my car shut down.the engine shut down, the lights went off, i couldn't move the wheel.it just went dead.i took it to the dealer for this issue and the series of issues i had experienced in the days leading up to this event, which included not being able to open the trunk, a message flashing that the battery was dead and to turn off all the lights in the vehicle (no lights were on), anti-theft message came up twice, on several occasions the front safety sensors said they were not operable (which are controlled by a box by front rear view mirror, and sensor was not blocked), calls have been dropped randomly, side doors stick, etc.the dealer told me that the vehicle needed an ota system update, and that the car shut down as a result.when i questioned why the car would shut down while in motion due to a need for a system update, i was told that is what the car is designed to do.i again repeated, the car is designed to shut down while in motion just because of a system update?i was told yes, all computer assisted cars are designed that way.they told me nothing else is wrong with the vehicle.this is a huge safety issue, and i have seen online, that many others have experienced the same issue.peoples lives are at perilous danger and risk when these cars are shutting down while in motion.something must be done now before serious accidents occur and someone dies.i do not feel comfortable putting my family back in this vehicle, especially with no satisfactory answer from the dealer on what caused this issue.
A humming or bass sound at different speeds in motion, bbmmmmmbbmmmm noise also a humming and static from the radio when vehicle is off and sitting still off and on at different intervals, some days you have it and others you don't.
The pinch sensor keeps breaking which then causes the door panel to separate and the window to detach from the vehicle. This is not the first time since we bought it that this has happened.
Both rear doors become stuck and completely inoperable. The power door mechanism has failed and now the door is completely stuck in the closed position. There is no way to manually open the door from the inside or the outside.
Power sliding door closure
If i buy a new 2018 honda odyssey at around 4000 miles start having transmission problems at around five to six thousand miles i start getting a horrible toxic burning chemical smell coming from inside the car somewhere do you take it to the dealership they say nothing's wrong obviously there is something wrong with his doing what it's doing
When i was driving in highway at 70 mile/h, the sunroof glass broken. I did not see anything hit my car, no truck and bridge near by.
I received a recall notice (nhtsa recall number 20v-439) for the back-up camera on my 2018 honda odyssey by mail in september 2020.i have repeatedly contacted the local dealer to have the repair made (3 times in the last 4 months) and have been told each time that the necessary parts for the repair are on "back order" and are unavailable.therefore the local dealer (understandably) will not schedule a repair appointment.i also contacted american honda's customer service department, who told me that they also have no additional information about the part's availability and that i should continue to work with the local dealership.if parts are not available to make the needed repairs, why is a recall notice even issued?
Honda navigation system displayed a message that a map update is available.followed the honda instructions to process the map update using a usb device.while updating at 78% complete, the system displayed a message that the update failed.the navigation system, now, will not even boot up.took the car to the dealer and after attempts to correct the issue, honda technical team stated that a new navientertainment program needs to be installed.the september map update somehow corrupted the navi program.
Vehicle randomly displays a warning that anti-theft cannot communicate and instructs driver to press and hold power. After several failed attempts at restarting the vehicle, we discovered that it meant the radio power, not the push start for the car. It is not clear if this means the radio antitheft or the vehicle anti-theft. The car was stationary and in a parking spot. It happened on start up (and remained there during all 4 restarts). It went away after press and holding the radio power button.
Front and rear parking sensor failure. Turned care on and alarm sounds and flashes parking sensor error. Alarms continuously.
Our new 2018 honda odyssey ex has failed twice to respond to the gas pedal. The first time i was stopped at an intersection. I took my foot off the brake and pressed the gas pedal. The engine continued to idle and pushed me out into oncoming traffic. Fortunately after pressing the pedal several times the engine responded. The second time i was on a freeway traveling straight at about 55 miles per hour coasting behind traffic in front of me. Again, the engine did not respond the first time i pressed the accelerator. After about the third attempt, the engine responded. I took my car to the honda dealer. They kept overnight to test it when it was cold and ran diagnostics. They found nothing wrong and said that there is nothing they can do. I hope they figure this out before this car kills me.
When driving, my van will switch from drive to park. The van makes a rubbling sound then cuts off.i restart the van the vanand itdrives.this has happened 4 times in the last month. I'm taking it to the honda dealer next week.
I just bought a brand new honda odyssey 2018 ex-l on october 16, 2017.turned off the engine completely and will hear several loud pop sounds from the back of the van.
Mirrors are diverting from adjusted position almost every time i start the car, sometimes even in middle of driving! disabling me from seeing what's wonderful
The driver-side door power lock does not fully close resulting in an inability to unlock the driver's side door after closing and therefore inhibit entry through that door.manually pushing in of the lock restores the ability to power-unlock, however it does not restore function to the power locking mechanism.additionally, the effect appears to be temperature sensitive, where warm weather increases the chances of failure of the power locking mechanism.this happens when the vehicle is parked.
The passengers side sliding door would not open automatically. The open/close button on the dash would not open the door either. The key fob wouldn't open it.we shut off the automatic door feature and the door still would not open manually. This is a huge safety issue. After driving the car home, the door opened without issue.
There has already been a recall issued for the latches on both sliding doors. I was notified at the end of 2018 about this recall however my dealership (hubler honda) did not have the parts at that time. They encouraged me to bring my van to back to hubler honda at the beginning of 2019 as the parts would be more readily available. It is now july 25. I have an appointment tomorrow and that dealership notified me, today, that the parts are backordered and will not be able to fix the latches. This is absolutely not safe with three children and unacceptable. Can someone help? i know i can't be the only one this is happening to. Towards the end of the school year, there were multiple episodes in the car pick up line. My children would climb into my stopped van, push the button to close the door, it would close almost completely, and then open back up.
When i stop curbside for school carpooling (i have 5 children at 3 different schools)to allow passengers to exit the passenger side sliding door, i then cannot get it to close.the door will slide all the way to within 1 inch of closing and pop back open.repeatedly.driving with the sliding door ajar is not safe.i have been able to use the driver's side buttons to stop the door, and start it closing again.if i do this stop/start action repeatedly (not allowing the door to slide all the way back open)i can almost always get the timing right to get it to close...but often it takes 3-5 minutes to get the stop/start combination to close the door entirely.i am usually unable to remain in the carpool pull throughs that long so i seat my baby on the drivers side so when we pull away with the door ajar, there is less of a safety concern until i am able to pull to another spot and deal with the door.it is very frustrating and even more so, unsafe!
On august 28,2019 my van had been parked in the garage all morning until i decided to go pick up lunch. I drove about 10 mins to the restaurant, parked for around five mins, then got back in car to drive home. About five mins into the drive home i heard what sounded like a bomb going off and then a scattering sound. I was shocked bc there was no cars behind me on the road and only one small sedan traveling about two car lengths in front of me. I had been watching closely to the back of the sedan bc it happened to be a friends and we were talking on the phone together. And no point did anything fling up from the road and there were no trees, bridges, or anything above the road. She could here the noise from her car as well and we both were like omg what was that sound, and then a second time the bomb like sound happened. About two mins later i pulled back into my garage and began inspecting my car and that when i realized it was my sun roof. My sun roof exploded out of no where. I live in southeast louisiana and on this day we were under yet another heat advisory. At the time of the incident around 12:53pm it was clear sunny skies and 95 degrees outside with a heat index of 115. The aching a/c was set to 71 inside of my vehicle. The interior cover to sunroof was closed thankfully because otherwise things could have been worse with glass flying and falling everywhere.
I just got delivery of this new 2018 ex-l w nav+res. The horn on this vehicle is too soft and sometimes on busy highways cannot be heard from other cars when the it is pressed in emergency, especially if the other driver is lessening to radio at moderate to high volume. Compared to previous years odyssey and other vehicles this model trim has a single horn whereas other had double. The horn volume needs to higher for other to be able to hear
Drove vehicle, parked, and kept car running.had only set of keys in hand when i got out of the car.used the key fob to lock the car.could not unlock the car using the key fob or button on the side of van.at the time, did not know there was a physical key in the fob.my kids were locked in the car and i had to instruct my five-year-old to unbuckle themselves from their carseat and unlock the doors.event occurred late 2019.have also had issue where i have stepped out of the car, while it is not running and my kids were in the car, they keys were in the car, and when i closed the door, the doors locked.thankfully the button on the side of van worked to unlock doors, but if it hadn't, i would have had no way to unlock the car to get to my kids on a hot summer day.event occurred summer 2019.
Panel behind the gas pedal and brake pedal is missing. This exposes a large area of electrical wires. A driver will easily be able to get his feet there while stretching his legs and intentionally mess up the wiring.i contacted the dealer and they said it is normal for 2018 models of odyssey.
I should have never gone back to honda! my 2018 honda odyssey has been another lemon! bought the car as a cpo on december 21, 2018 with just over 3,000 miles. Since then the car has been in the shop 4 times to fix this infotainment system. I had the entire dashboard black out on me and couldn't see my speed, yet the honda dealership near me told me 'just drive it to work, it'll be okay.' then the infotainment went out and nothing worked for weeks until another dealership was nice enough to replace it. Just yesterday my infotainment system makes a very loud 'beep' and shuts down while i'm driving on a busy highway! then the dashboard blacks out and the car 'safety features ' cause it to break! when i spoke to the dealership i am told 'we will have to recreate that problem before anything it done' are you serious?!i take my kids around in this mini van. I pushed to go back to honda because 'they have gotten so much better', but it turns out they haven't.
Brand new vehicle.approximately 700 miles on odometer.passenger side sliding door would not close completely; either via the push-button operation or manually.made a grinding sound when closing and then beeped 3 times.drove the vehicle to dealership with door ajar (beeping alarms the entire way)
Please see the attached letter regarding the power sliding door that fails to shut all the way.
I was driving the car on city streets and started to smell smoke. While i was driving the dash board started to flash engine problem and car was shutting down. I pulled the car over and stopped it. When then i saw smoke was coming from under the hood. Within approximately 5min the car started to go up in flames.davie fire dept run # 3285davie police kept #18-017945honda case claim madestate farm claim made
On march 24, my 2018 honda odyssey shifted into park at 65 mph on i-95 in philadelphia. The honda rep, oliver (a honda employee), explained to my husband that when the computer in the car connected to the collusion avoidance sensor disconnects, a computer assumes the car is off and that forces the car into park regardless of the speed it is going.this is what happened when i was driving, the entertainment panel screen went blank and while it was rebooting, i lost all control of the car, no gas, no brake, steering was difficult.when it reboot, it was in park and the engine made a terrible noise like metal hitting metal.i was barely able to steer the car to the side of the highly with my three children ages 8 months, 2 years and 4 years old in the car.the honda rep believes the problem has to do with the way the power cable is connected to the battery.he explain that this caused the sensors to disconnect intermittently.the rep, oliver, blamed the problem on the dealership during their repair of the car for an unrelated issue.however, this is incorrect.the car front sensor have been losing connection to the computer since we took it home before the dealership touched the battery.there are other issues with this car's electrical and computer system that i would not bring up, but oliver's description of the car computer system makes it relevant.he explained that the car has 6 computer connected with ethernet cables.much of the work for the basic function of the car and transmission is done by the computer that also runs the entertainment system, the big screen common in the front panel of cars.oliver explained when one computer gets bogged down, it takes the entire system down.our car and a lot of other 2018 honda odyssey have a known flaw that honda has not fixed in well over a year.the bug, take the camera and retainment system down
The engine stall when trying to enter traffic after stopping at an intersection,it pauses for a while take long time to pick up.this is very unsafe when entering traffic or stop sign.it happened constantly since purchased.also after stop ,i have to push the gas hardly to pick up to normal drivei went dealer two times they check the car and they can't resolve this issues vehicle has also safety recall ,they fixed iti had problems with audio system,no sounds they replace it
Unusual super loud noise come from ac fan under the hood when ac is on.
Taking noise at morning calls start
The door panel on the left sliding door became separated from the door itself thus preventing the door from opening. The malfunction prevent egress from that door. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for repair. The dealership hated that the issue was considered cosmetic. The dealership ordered a new door panel at my personal expense. There was no prior warning that the door would malfunction and egress would be prevented.
Vehicle is not shifting at all, doesn't go right away when pedal is pressed, park, drive, reverse buttons flash on dashboard when car is on. All sensor lights come on with issues.
Entertainment system malfunctions constantly. Center console displays message: 'camera system problem. Image cannot be displayed.' this will happen randomly while the car is on whether i'm driving or not. I have noticed it happening more often when the ac is used. It almost always happens whenever remote start feature is used.
While in motion at a speed where the vehicle auto locks the doors, the driver's door power lock will attempt to repeatedly lock the car door.the lock appears engaged, however it is not closed as far as the passenger side lock. The locking attempts can be reduced by pushing the lock manually to a fully closed position.the lock still functions and the door cannot be opened, however any attempts to unlock the door with the power locking mechanism are unsuccessful and the door must be manually unlocked from the inside.
Cabin watch safety feature for passengers malfunctioning periodically
Push button shifting from reverse to drive is problematic. If the drive button is not pressed firmly enough the vehicle remains in reverse, but the driver thinks that the vehicle is in drive. If there is a person behind the vehicle and the operator presses the throttle then a possibly deadly accident can occur. When shifting from drive to reverse there is an audio notification (a chime sound) that the vehicle is in reverse. The is no similar notification when shifting from reverse to drive. This is a potentially life threatening flaw.
1. ) fuel efficiency is not as reported; it is several mpgs lower under all conditions (highway/city).
2018 honda odyssey elite, 4 months old and 650 miles. While driving on the interstate the moon roof exploded. Sounded like a gun going off. Remanants of the moon roof are shaped upwards showing the explosion came from the inside and not being hit by a rock, etc. No traffic was in front of my vehicle and i wasn't driving under a underpass.
2018 honda odyssey exl resnav w/ 9speed ataside from the transmission i also wrote up our odyssey has used the collision mitigation auto braking system several times to not just slow but completely stop the vehicle. This did not happen just once. Or just to my wife the primary driver. It's happened to both of us multiple times. As you can imagine having the car 'take the controls' and stop the vehicle when you have the accelerator depressed to pass a vehicle this is unsafe. Doubly so when the vehicle behind you anticipates your acceleration and nearly rear ends you. Or the time my wife had a car cross traffic left to right too close to her and the surrounding vehicles turning into the local chick fil a. The vehicles to her left and right were able to slow and then proceed. Our odyssey stopped dead in the middle of the 6 lane road that usually runs 45. She was nearly hit due to the overly aggressive stop from the cmbs. Turning left with a green arrow the van will even attempt to stop when it detects traffic sitting on the opposing side of the intersection yielding right of way. And will also lock on to vehicles turning left from the opposite direction and stop.this is completely and 100% unacceptable, unsafe and has destroyed my opinion of honda which was sterling up until now. We may be trading this thing soon.
I was driving the car at 40 miles per hour on a back road without cruise control engaged.the road was one lane each direction, fully marked with lines, and gentle rolling hills.in a aboutmile long straight stretch i came upon a cyclist using the center of my lane and climbing one of the hills.i coasted a little bit slower and then moved fully into the oncoming lane to give the cyclist plenty of room.at this same time a car popped over the furthest visible hill a little less thanmile away.at this moment the car stopped taking accelerator input.i was going up a hill next to a cyclist and losing speed rapidly.what should have been a pass with maybe 4 seconds to spare ended up being less than 2 seconds and a little frightening.i pulled in front of the cyclist much closer than i would have liked.once i was back in the lane the car gave me control of the accelerator again.during the incident the were no warnings audible, visible, or haptic provided by the car.the only thing that was unusual was the engine going to idle and the accelerator not responding.
Auto shifting anywhere from 20-30 mph results in hard shift and knock. When van downshifts around 20-30 mph there is a jump of acceleration and knock.sometimes when accelerating and gears shift there is un expected jump in acceleration
The engine stalls when trying to enter traffic after stopping at an intersection. It pauses for up to 5 seconds. This is extremely dangerous when entering traffic. The annoying engine shut down on stopping is, disabled at the time. It has happened constantly since purchased.
If acc (adaptive cruise control) is engaged (as well lkas -- i have not tested with acc alone) and the car goes down a hill (even with moderate slope), the brakes don't applied properly, and the car speed keeps on increasing violating the cruise control setting. At some point during the violation, the car even accelerates with the engine engaging in high rpm; i.e., 100% opposite to supposed braking. For instance, let's say cruise control is at 45mph. The car keeps on increasing downhill till say 51mph, and then suddenly the engine goes to high rpm further accelerating the car dramatically!

On the us 2018 honda odyssey model, there is no low windshield washer fluid warning. This is a major safety issue as i found this out on a sloppy, salty wisconsin interstate next to a semi with my wife and kids in the vehicle. Salt on a windshield gives you zero visibility without washer fluid, and luckily i was able to exit the interstate and make it to a gas station to fill with washer fluid without incident.my 2000 explorer and 2010 rav4 have low washer fluid warning lights.with the 1000s of dollars of active and passive safety features built into the odyssey, consumers expect the inexpensive simple things like a low washer fluid warning.this should be subject to recall.
The odyssey elite has "rain sensing" wipers with no ability to disable them. The rain sensor fails to accurately assess water on the windshield, making the van's wiper choices either "off" or "low" or "high". I researched other odyssey forum posts, and this issue is extremely common. This is a safety issue for two reasons. First, driver distraction trying to operate a non-functional system. Second, in light mist or rain as the "low" setting is too fast and smears and streaks, while "off" doesn't remove water. Other vehicles with rain-sensing wipers contain a disable feature in the software, allowing manual override for intermittent speeds. Honda offers no such bypass.
If i buy a new 2018 honda odyssey at around 4000 miles start having transmission problems at around five to six thousand miles i start getting a horrible toxic burning chemical smell coming from inside the car somewhere do you take it to the dealership they say nothing's wrong obviously there is something wrong with his doing what it's doing
The rear camera system has 'camera system failure' error. Anytime the car is put in reverse, instead of the rear camera visibility, the screen goes black with an error message of camera system failure.
Van was parked inside a garage with no damage. Walked into the garage hours later and noticed the drivers rear quarter panel window cracking and breaking apart on its own. Glass breakage pattern appears to be spontaneous window failure possibly due to manufacturing defect. May cause safety hazard if i were driving the vehicle with kids in the rear seat and it gave way then.
I was driving on the 400 in west seneca ny and a truck entered at the union rd exit. There was no other vehicle around me and something came out of the uncovered dumpster the truck was carrying and hit my windshield leaving a crack.
The front window washer will not dispense fluid when the weather is cold. Dealership said fluid freezes in the bottle, but that's not true because back nozzle works. Front nozzles work if van left in garage overnight. This morning, after 15 min of driving in 10 degrees, front nozzles do not dispense. Honda dealership shrugged when i said it's a safety issue. Dry snow, salt, ice, mud thrown onwindshield when driving, and no way to effectively clear it off. Washer fluid was filled by dealership one week ago. Dispenser bottle is 95% full. The issue is somewhere between dispenser bottle and front nozzles. This first happened yesterday evening when i was driving home in the dark (about 10 degrees out). Windshield was dangerously dirty by the time i got home.
The bridgestone turanza tires are not holding up i have popped bothfront tires- on separate incidentsin the past 2 months since in got the van.i previously drove a sienna and a pathfinder and have not had a popped tire before .
