The contact owned a 2009 honda odyssey. While the contact's vehicle was idling at a stop light, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The driver suffered bodily pain that did not require medical attention. The rear driver's side passenger did not sustain any injuries, but received medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,000.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that right after the ignition was started, the driver side curtain air bag deployed without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer who verified the failure but was not able to diagnosed the cause. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who stated that they would contact her back at a later date. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 69,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. While driving 60 mph, the contact crashed into a deer in the middle of the road. The contact stated that the front passenger tire flattened and the air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. Two independent mechanics came to the contact's residence where they attempted to manually deploy the air bags; however, they were unsuccessful. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was currently waiting to be diagnosed by another independent mechanic. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 156,500.

We were driving down a residential street, on easter morning on our way to church, at 20-30 mph when our passenger curtain-side airbag deployed. There was no impact.we did not hit anything and no one hit us. Our family (two adults, 5 y.o, 3 y.o, and 6 week old) were in the car with no injuries.we took our case to the local honda dealer, where they ran diagnostics.they found no issues and referred our case to american honda (case #05962968).their engineers and specialists did not find anything wrong either and will be denying our claim (letter of rejection pending).our state farm insurance will not be covering the issue either (letter of rejection pending) (case#43-1404-3h2).i believe there to be an issue with the airbags since only one major airbag deployed and not the entire airbag system.no airbags deployed from our dashboard.i feel that honda should be covering our repairs because no impact occurred and this is a major safety issue.our insurance company has pictures and all documentation including a crash report on the vehicle.i currently do not have them, but can retrieve them if necessary.thank you for your time and consideration.

Airbag sensor light on dash appeared.this happened off & on for 2 months.wondered if there was a problem with the airbag or the warning light!honda dealer has told us that the driver side curtain airbag needs a new inflater.we are concerned that this safety feature has only lasted 4 years on a vehicle with less than 40,000 miles on it.cost to replace is over $1100.00.honda has agreed to pay about 1/2, but we feel this is a factory defect -- we should be able to rely on a safety feature for more than 4 years on a vehicle that should serve us for many years!

The side curtain airbags on our 2009 honda odyssey deployed without known cause while rolling into our garage. This happened around 9:00am on friday, november 16th, 2018.the airbag deployment was traumatic, as we have come to rely on the safety and reliability of the honda odyssey.the airbag struck my wife on the left side of her head, but thankfully did not strike our daughter in the car seat.medical attention was needed but looks to be limited to bruising and soreness. The vehicle was going less than 1 mile per hour and was half way into the garage.there was over 1 foot of clearance between the car and the garage frame.there was not just cause for the deployment of the side-curtain airbags.the dealership stalled the process to refer the matter to honda america.now, honda america is taking no responsibility.honda america identified historical wear and tear on the vehicle and believes this is the cause of the deployment.i am thankful my wife was not driving down the freeway when this occurred.i ask that the nhtsa investigate this event, as i believe there are others like it.i believe there is a significant risk to the public from a faulty design within honda odyssey that can cause the deployment of the airbags.

I was in my 2009 honda odysseyand i was the last of 3 cars that had stopped for a school bus.i was rear-ended by a 4th car that did not stop. Then my front end hit the car in front of me. There was major damage to the front and back end and the van had to be towed. I could hardly open the front driver's door. It was not drivable.the airbags did not deploy.

We owned a 2009 honda odyssey . This vehicle has been maintained well for years at honda dealerships. I have purchased extended warranty for 120k miles on this vehicle since we were planning to use this vehicle for a long time. Last time i had any work done on this car was in 12/31/13 at a honda dealership. It was a major service.we did not have any issue with the vehicle until the event that led to the fire on the vehicle. As my wife was driving her odyssey on i-280/ca-85, she stated that all the warning lights/gauge on the dashboard came on.at the same time she realized that car would not accelerate. When she instinctively looked at the temperature gauge on the dashboard, it was normal (about halfway up)due to this symptom, she was forced to park the car to the side of the highway. At this point, my wife ordered both of my kids in the car to exit the vehicle and move to the side of the road on the highway. She did exit the vehicle as well. As the smoke from the car changed from white to black, she called 911. As she waited for the fire engine to arrive (which according to her took 10 minutes), whole car was engulfed in fire from bumper to bumper. When i arrived at the scene, there were police cars and fire trucks. Two lanes on ca-85 was closed. My wife and my kids were in shock and were crying. I took my wife and kids home afterwards. We lost personal items that were left in the car such as glasses, jackets, and other items.santa clara county fire department told me that they will be opening up a case.i can not stop to think about what is the reason why this fire occurred on the vehicle. We did not have any indication that this would occur except for the last minute dashboard indication. Considering the vehicle was bought/serviced at honda, we are beginning to lose faith on honda vehicle/service in general.

My vehicle is honda odysee 2009 i purchase this unit u=in triangle dealers in p.r. And my unit have a difficult in the front with the punta de eje y tiene que reemplazarla my husband paid for security bumper to bumper and he sevice is bad i waiting up january and this piece no arrive because triangle talk me and said american honda worked order of november 2009 and my unit continue with defect i need help because is very iconvenient that this unit is new.i callng and this call to dealer always is negative please chek this unit.

Battery went dead at idle with ac on.while starting he engine, a abnormal sound was make by when trying to turn the engine over and the ac freon leaked out, doors would not open.after shut down, the car would not start and doors would not open.

All windows except the driver's stopped functioning.this problem happens with engine on or off.this problem happens when stationary or moving.tried the child safety button, but still a problem.you can hear them click, but the motors will not engage.it appears there is a faulty master switch.others have the same issue here:https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-c3836_ds530625

On may 12, 2012, i was driving about 50 mph when the van started to sputter. I came to a red light and the car acted as if it were about to cut off. The check engine light started blinking along with the vsa light.it rode very rough all the way to the closesthonda dealership as i was not in my hometown. They informed me that one of the spark plugs needed to be replaced. I went ahead and replaced all of themto the tune of $308.23. On november 23, 2012, i was driving about 60 mph when the same thing happened. The mileage was 105,001.again, i was out of town and drove the car to the nearest honda dealership. They said the #3 spark plug had fouled out. I told them to replace only the #3 plug. On my receipt it says, "retrieved code p0303...misfire #3 cylinder...found spark plug fouled out. Possible faulty valve seals...replaced spark plug and performed pcm software update." that cost me $138.76. On the drive home the air conditioning started to act up. It would run but sometimes it was cold and sometimes the air was not. On november 24, 2012, i took the car to the honda dealership that i normally use. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with the air conditioning except for a dirty cabin filter. They replaced it and charged me $131.97. However, they said my brakes were worn out. That cost $359.68. Then there was the brake fluid exchange, transmission fluid exchange, and power steering flush. All in all the visit cost me $1049.61. Funny, on november 19, 2012, i had taken the van in for an oil change and they did a courtesy inspection. No mention of brake problem.november 26, 2012, car dead, wouldn't start. They replaced the battery under warranty.december 3, 2012, car dead again. Invoice reads, "a/c clutch relay stuck killing battery making a/c compressor run even when a/c off." fixed for free due to all the problems.

The car was off and the daytime running lights started coming on which was draining the battery. Different lights started to illuminate on the dashboard with the car off. The vsa light came on. Took it to a couple of different shops to get it diagnosed and they determined that the cabin wire harness is corroded due to a leak in the roof run channels and or windshield. The under the dash fuse box is also showing corrosion and needs replacing. The vehicle only has 64000 miles and the repair is quoted at $3465. A very costly repair which seems is due to faulty manufacturing or assembly.

I purchased a 2009 honda odyssey from west auto sales located at 6145 e. Lancaster rd. Fort worth, tx 76112 on 03/27/2021. I have had nothing but problems with it. The first two days of driving it the check engine light came on due to the catalytic convertor needing to be replaced. The dealership managed to get the check engine light off without replacing it. A few days after getting the car back the serpentine belt broke off. I notified the dealer and brought it back to them. They informed me that there was a bolt broken inside the tensioner and it would take four days in order to get the tools and supplies needed in order to fix it. The next day i received a phone call from the dealer and told that they got the bolt out with no problem and put a new tensioner in and replaced the belt. Not even a week after that the belt came off again and i had to have it towed to firestone complete auto care and they told me that the same broken bolt was still there holding together the tensioner. All the dealership did was put jb weld on the broken bolt to hold it together. I have notified the seller and got no help. Now my van isn't drive able and it will cost another $800 to get it fixed the right way. I did a carfax report on the vehicle and found out that it has even been in a wreck that wasn't disclosed. I have been told by two different mechanics that i was sold a lemon.

Front passenger doors doesn't open from inside of the car unless unlock/lock/unlock is pressed from driver side.this has been occurring from 2010.talked to dealer but they can't find anything wrong.and i didn't want to pay for investigation.they said it has to be fail and remained failure for them to see and investigate.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that after turning the key halfway, the contact suddenly heard a sputtering noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. Approximately a few weeks the later, the failure worsened. The manufacturer was contacted andoffered no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was approximately 15,797. The vin was unavailable.

The air conditioning (a/c) control relay on my 2009 honda odyssey failed less than 3 years after purchase, causing intermittent electrical problems that would prevent the car from starting.when the car's ignition switch is placed in the "accessory i" position, only the audio system and accessory power sockets should be engaged and able to operate. My a/c control relay failed in the closed position, causing the a/c compressor in my car to run continuously, even when the ignition switch was in the accessory i position.the end result was whenever i left the ignition switch in the accessory position for more then a couple minutes, the running a/c compressor would very quickly drain the battery, leaving the car unable to start.placing the ignition switch in the accessory position for a matter of minutes should not result in a person being stranded !!!the part number for the a/c compressor relay on my 2009 odyssey is omron g8hl-h71.honda's corresponding part number is for this relay is 39794-sda-a03.

While driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph my wife's 2009 honda odyssey began to shake as i stepped on the gas the engine light came on and the vehicle lost engine power and i had to manually steer to the side of the highway.. Upon opening the hood i could smell that something was burning. The vehicle was towed 79 miles to my mechanic. I was informed that a spark plug blew out completely and a portion of that plug entered the cylinder and damaged the engine. The entire threading of the spark plug was damaged and melted into the engine. I was informed that the entire engine needs to be replaced.

The car's ac system is malfunctioning.the air conditioning will sometimes blow cold air and other times blow warm air when on the lowest temperature setting with the ac on.also, it will sometimes blow hot air on the driver's side and cold air on the passenger's side.we've taken the vehicle to two different shops (non-honda) and both have confirmed the unit is completely charged and can not determine what the issue is.a search on the issue seems that several other owners are experiencing the same issue with their vehicles.

My wife tried to open the (powered) liftgate via the handle.the liftgate would not open this way.when she tried the remote, it opened it apx 90 percent of the way.when it reached the apx 90 percent mark, it seemed that the motor opening it jammed and the gate came down quite quickly, falling unexpectedly on my wife's back.i researched this problem and saw that there is an open investigation on this same matter (nhtsa campaign id number: pe11034).

Right rear sliding door has opened while car is moving. Suspect it is the cause of the battery being drained twice in the last few days when car was not driven during 48 hour period. The door will not open electronically now. It has to be forced open manually.

Unable to lift up passenger side window (front and rear) once window is down mainly in cold weather.also time to time, unable to open front passenger side door from inside.i have to open and close the door using drive side button from inside the vehicle, or use remote control to perform lock/unlock function.for window operation it doesn't matter if the vehicle is moving or not moving.for lock operation vehicle is not moving.for both operation vehicle engine could be on.this problem has been there since the day one i bought the vehicle.dealership was informed but they were unable to find the problem because most of the time problem recovers by the time we reach dealership (30 minutes later)

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the passenger's side automatic sliding door would lock independently and fail to open.the automatic trunk also could only be opened manually and the fuel cover would not open when activated, forcing the contact to pry it open with a sharp object. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.

When using the van on several occasions in the city streets. While raining and after it has rained, the van the battery light has turned on the has van turned off. I have taken the van twice to get this checked out and they have told me it does not have anything. I took it on september 2014 and again in november 2014. While using the van in the rain i have come to a stop sign to turn and going in to traffic the van it turns off . This happened again this last week on nov. 25 2014. Because of this i am scared of using the van when it rains.my wife is always using the van with are grandchildren.

Took the car to the honda dealership for emissions check light.diagnosed as "nox sensor wiring harness chewed by mouse" per honda dealership. There is no evidence of rodent damage or presence elsewhere in the vehicle. The honda dealership did not provide me the pictures or the damaged part saying that it was thrown in the trash.the wiring was apparently covered by honda rodent deterrent tape.i have contacted acura/honda dealerships, their extended warranty customer service and also the respective acura/honda manufacturer customer service. The same thing happened to my other car (acura mdx 2009) within a span of one week with exactly similar presentation. When i requested information from the above sources, i was told that this was confidentialinformation and is not available for customers and that is it is a rare event and not related to manufacturing defects and also there was no definitive trend in acura/honda(same company) nox sensor wiring harness being chewed by rodents and have refused to cover it under extended warranty program to which i have subscribed/purchased. I have another entry regarding the other vehicle at the nhtsa.gov website.

Engine light came up. Drive light flashes. Moving into drive is very noisy. Car hesitates to move and changes gear late.

Burns excessive oil under normal driving conditions and constantly adding oil.in addition the check oil and/or check engine warning lights do not come.several occasions have found it bone dry.

Van had a minor accident in the front end that i purchased from my brother's body shop.not sure if accident caused it but, the traction control comes on periodically for no reason, e.g. Not raining, losing control of vehicle.looked at by 2 honda dealerships and no one can fix the problem without spending a lot of money by looking at every wire.to date, my brother and i have spent about $5,000 replacing the front abs sensors, front wire harness, steering angle sensor, rack and pinion, bearings, abs modulator, yann sensor and power steering pump. In order for the traction control not to come on, we must hit the button and shut it off...then the tc light comes on that its off.i called honda customer service with no help.they sent me a follow up to see if i was happy with call and i sent a 2 page letter to mr. Smith, customer service vp to help me fix my problem.although i would like to get reimbursed, i would settle just to have honda fix my problem at their cost.at this point, driving with the traction control off is very unsafe for my wife and two kids that drive in the van.please note, this is my second van (previously purchased a 2006 brand new).i understand honda has a training center in virginia, and i would be willing to have them look at it to see if they can diagnose the problem. According to one of the honda dealerships, some of the other 2009 van's do the same thing.we are not sure if this happened before the accident and this is the reason the individual sold it to my brother.please help...this is very dangerous and honda does not appear to care about this problem.please call me if you would like a copy of the letter i sent honda.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My honda odyssey caught fire on may 13, 2018.there was no accident involved. The car just burned itself.the car suddenly stopped in the middle of the road when i was driving at 30 miles per hour at local road. And started to shake. Smoke came out under the engine cover,i opened the engine cover, flame came out as high as 6-8 feet.it was so dangerous. I called the police. Before the fire truck came, some pass by driver throw me some bottle waters. I was able to put down the fire.the car was damaged by the fire. We bought the car new in 2009 from honda dealer. We always did car maintenance per honda's requirements at the honda dealership.no any negligence by owner.we hired a professional car inspector. He found out the fire was caused by the electronic wires connected the alternator. They were the original honda wires.the car inspection report is attached for your review. The car was later inspected and repaired by the workshop. The technicians confirmed the fire inspection report.the car inspector and workshop both confirmed the fire was caused by the electronic wires used by honda. The fire caused big damage to my car and posed serious threat to human life.we believe we need to report the accident to help avoid loss of life.we hope honda can take serious steps to investigate the fire issue and fix any potential problems that may cause fire on honda car.

In fall 2016, the dealership addressed a misfire engine reading on my van. I had taken it in at least two other times because of sluggish acceleration or vehicle dying while at a stop. In spring 2017, the van became disabled at an intersection and it was found that the cause was the same misfire code. According to honda's nhtsa id number: 10099308 manufacturer communication number: we - a13-080, this repair would have been covered.but because of this extended warranty's 8yr from date of purchase timeframe, honda corp. Denied my repairs because it was three months out of the 8yr extended warranty.i communicated with honda back and forth urging them to fix the van especially since the repair had been address before and it was three months out of their class action agreement.ultimately, they denied coverage of any repairs.

Engine burns excessive amount oil without any warning lights.slowing eating up the camshaft and valve rocker arm.casing misfire to the engine and eventually engine stops working.mine did not have the engine stop, but local mechanic verifies that there is a excessive wear to the camshaft units

During driving in the city or on the highway i've been having an engine misfire with spark plug fouling causing problems resulting in a catalytic converter and o2 sensor replacement. My van is still in the shop and has to be towed to a dealer 46 miles away to see if they can get it to stop spewing oil into the combustion chamber.

While stopped at a 4 way traffic intersection w/light and with foot on the brake, the engine raced on it's own causing the car to surge ahead unexpectantly. I had to take it out of gear to avoid an accident.

While driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph my wife's 2009 honda odyssey began to shake as i stepped on the gas the engine light came on and the vehicle lost engine power and i had to manually steer to the side of the highway.. The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact was that while driving at various speeds, the check engine and low oil pressure warning lights illuminated. Additionally, while idling the vehicle vibrated abnormally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic twice and the spark plugs and ignition coil were replaced however, the failure persisted. The contact then took the vehicle to pensacola honda (6675 pensacola blvd, pensacola, fl 32505) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rings in the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the warranty on the vehicle was expired. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 89,000.

I just purchased this vehicle on april 19, 2016. I had the oil changed mid june. My wife had a trip to florida near the end of june, so i checked the oil and it was fine. As of today i heard a knocking sound and checked the oil. It was two quarts low. I filled the oil and the knocking sound remains.

Bought this van at 83,000 miles before it turned 100,000 it is burning at least 2 quarts of oil between regular changes. Read on forums that this is a major issues with the 3.5litre engines

Vehicle had charging system light go on (battery light).battery was not charging and there was a noise near the alternator. Next day, light goes off, battery is charging now, no noise.two days and 40 miles later, no other lights and no other noise.vehicle enters highway, makes it about 3 miles when the cruise control shuts off.all lights on the dash come on and shut off.driver pulls over, starts to see smoke coming out from under the hood.keeps hood shut and waits for emergency services to arrive on scene.engine goes up in flames, all seats are burned up, windows blown out, front tires melt.total loss.

While driving on an interstate at approximately 65-70mph, the check engine light came on and the car began to ride very rough (approximate date of 6/1/2012 at ~65,000 miles).pulled off the highway and had the car towed to the nearest honda dealership (as recommended in owners' manual).service at dealership inspected the car and found the spark plugs to be fouled.replaced spark plugs (#3 was one), and all seemed fine.the same scenario happened again onjanuary 31, 2013 (at 75,126 miles) - again with no warning the check engine light came on (while driving) and car began to sputter.had car towed to nearest dealership.again the spark plugs (#3 specifically) were fouled.replaced the all spark plugs.found out that i was two quarts low on oil eventhough the oil had been recently changed (1/7/13 at ~73,000 miles) and no oil was leaking from my car (i.e. No oil spots on driveway, etc...).the same scenario happened again on 5/2/2013 (at 81,320 miles)...check engine light came on (while driving and with no warning), car starts to sputter.i have it towed to nearest dealership, and the spark plug (#3) are found to be fouled again.again, oil is two quarts low (oil had been changed on 3/21/13 at 78,976 miles).fix all again and change oil to to an oil consumption test.test found that my car is consuming at least 1 qt of oil per 1000 miles and that is causing my spark plugs to foul.honda says my oil consumption is within "normal parameters" and will do nothing to fix the problem.honda feels that having to add oil every 1000 miles accpetable.i disagree!if i don't check the oil every 1000 miles (and add at least a qt), then i risk driving with no oil which will cause my engine to seize.also, even adding the oil doesn't resolve frequent spark plug damage causing engine breakdown.this car is unreliable and unsafe!

Honda odyssey oil consumption-i have a 2009 odyssey that consumes oil. Roughly, every 1,000 miles, i am adding 1 to 2 quarts of oil every 3 to 4 weeks.no spots on the ground. Engine is consuming oil.have read that this is a known problem with honda.

While opening my tailgate on my honda odyssey van yesterday at around 6:00 p.m.it fell down on my head. What would cause that to happen? i did not do anything to try and fix it. The dealership was closed.

The vehicle is consuming a lot of oil. The last 2 times i took it to walmart i was informed there was no oil in my engine. No lights came on, the oil indicator stated i still had life left in the oil. There has been no oil on the ground. This is dangerous as the engine can seize and cause and accident.

The contact owned a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that while his son was driving at 50 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the entire vehicle began rattling and then smoking. The contact immediately pulled over and the vehicle burst into flames. The fire department arrived and extinguished the vehicle; no injuries were sustained. No reports were filed; the vehicle was totaled on the scene and towed to a tow yard.the dealer ( open road honda 50 us-1, edison, nj 08817 (732) 839-4800) was contacted and informed of the fire; they are awaiting a report from the insurance company. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. There are no recalls associated with the vehicle and the failure mileage was 102,000. *as

Van began to stutter on acceleration and check engine light came on.took to personal mechanic who diagnosed a mis-fire in cylinder #2.removed spark plug to find it coated with oil and carbon.says it appears oil is leaking through the engine valve stem seals and coating the plug.he replaced the plug.have since took it to local honda dealership and performed an oil consumption test.over 1 quart consumed in 1200 miles of driving.have asked that stem seals be replaced under good will but honda has denied request because service has not been performed at dealership and thus they cannot guarantee workmanship and parts installed.vehicle continues to consume oil and after checking #2 cylinder plug recently, continues to contaminate spark plugs.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the serpentine belt fractured and the engine stalled without warning. The failure occurred on two occasions. The vehicle was towed to the dealer on two occasions. The technician diagnosed on the second occasion that the serpentine belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,852.

Burns excessive oil under normal driving conditions and constantly adding oil.in addition the check oil and/or check engine warning lights do not come.several occasions have found it bone dry.

Excess oil useage, fouled plugs.repairs offered are only a temporary fix, according to my mechanic.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that while driving and exceeding 70 mph, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light, vehicle stability assist warning, and tpms warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the drive indicator light was also flashing on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Neither a dealer nor the manufacturer were made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

While driving the check engine light comes on and the vehicle loses power and shakes.the vehicle consumes excessive oil which causes the plugs to foul and fail. The known issue is caused by a defective vehicle cylinder management (vcm). When this occurs, the vehicle exhibits a burning oil smell and gas smell in the cabin.this has almost caused a major high speed accident because of the inability of the vehicle to maintain highways speeds and the reduced power to the engine makes the vehicle hard to steer due to loss of power assisted steering cause by the reduced engine power. There should be a recall of the honda vcm system before a fatality occurs.

3.5l v6 engine misfire, plugs fouling, piston ring replacementas part of the class action settlement for engine misfire, honda corp issued a service bulletin to update the pcm software and replace the affected spark plugs. This remedy does not fix the problem. Recognizing the original remedy was not affective, honda corp issued a service bulletin to extend engine warranty to 8 years or 125,000 miles whichever it comes first. For my specific case, the first time this problem occurred while driving in aug 2014 with 57,486 miles (mil light on, engine stumbles, loss of power), the honda dealership serviced my vehicle by following the service bulletin to update the pcm software and replace the affected spark plugs.the 2nd time this problem occurred in apr 2018 while driving with 112,805 miles (mil light on, rough idle, vibrates excessively while driving), the honda dealership charged me a fee in excess of $619 to replace foul plugs and v tec switches.the 3rd time this issue occurred while driving on aug 2018 with 112,805 (mil light on, vehicle vibrates excessively while driving, loss of power and stumble), the honda dealership is charging me over $1100 to replace piston rings and affected foul plugs.this is a safety issue when the engine is losing power and vibrates excessively while driving. The service bulletin and the extended warranty does not resolve the problem completely and leave the customers with a large cost to repair for something that should be resolved. A safety recall is strongly recommended for the affected vehicles with 3.5l v6 engines. Many customers are at risk while driving their vehicles with loss of power, stumbles, vibrates excessively, as well as many angry customers are demanding action to resolve this issue completely.

Front and side engine mounts failed at less than 60,000 miles with regular light use and no accidents.symptoms were clunking of the engine when shifting into gear and starting and stopping.

Engine is burning excessive amounts of oil resulting in a p3497 obd ii fault code.low oil pressure light does not turn on, even though the engine burned over 2 quarts of oil. Became aware of issue when check engine light turned on. Added 2 quarts of oil, then obtained an oil change the next day.this has happened multiple times.there is a very high risk of engine seizing. Honda has not issued a recall. Honda did issue a service bulletin 11-033 to reprogram the computer at a cost of $125. I only became aware of the service bulletin after searching the internet...no notification from honda.

A miss fire in the engine which is causing slow speed when going up a hill or using the air conditioner. If it was to fail while driving it would be not good, could cause an accident. Also need to bring attention that honda lack of concern for the safety of the driver and other people on the road.

Ivtec 3.5l engine. Touring model. Rear engine mount failure. Aluminum engine mount attachment sheared. No car damage history or abuse. Family car, daily driving around town and highway. Not sure when it failed, but total mileage is 120,000 miles. Owned this car since new.dealer said the protective boot had torn, and the mount needed replacing. Honda part, $650, completely unreasonable. I bought a part, and replaced it myself, that is when i discovered the part had failed. The dealer refused to remedy the situation, and said engine mounts break all the time. Engine mounts? a primary part of the engine structure? should never fail like this. The part is significantly under designed and should be recalled and reinforced, most likely replace the aluminum with a steel part.again, not sure when the part failed, could have been that way from the factory for all i know. Have never hit anything or bottomed out the car.upon inspection of the failed part, it does not appear to be a defect, or fatigue failure, but an overload of the design. I am an engineer and aircraft mechanic.i can give you the failed part if you desire.

Engine oil service was performed by independent mechanic at 33,599 miles, who informed that the engine oil level was low prior to draining the crank case. I began monitoring engine oil quantity thereafter.currently with 39,252 miles on the vehicle the engine oil consumption rate is about 1 quart per 2,500 miles, which seems excessive for an engine with low mileage. This rate equates to consumption of half of the entire crank case between engine oil change cycles. If not monitored and filled the engine may be damaged due to low engine oil quantity and pressure.a significant safety impact is present if the owner is not aware of oil consumption and the engine seizes. The engine is the honda sohc vcm, 6-cylinder (v6), gasoline engine.

Variable cylinder management switches on and off and causes excessive oil consumption. Oil light comes on and codes p3400 and p3497 show on the reader.

While my car was parked at a store, my engine caught fire leading to a total loss of the vehicle.i drove my car for a short distance to do two errands (maybe 15 min. Drive).i parked my car and went in to shop for maybe 15 - 20 minutes.when i came out of the store, black smoke was billowing out from the engine followed shortly after by flames.by the time the fire department was able to put out the fire, the car's engine compartment was destroyed.if this had happened at home while my car was in the garage, my house could have caught fire as well.thankfully there were not many cars parked close to mine so no other vehicle was affected.my car had the fuel pump replaced with the 2014/5 recall notice.the car had been serviced at the dealer in january and successfully passed a state safety and vehicle emissions test two days before the fire.the fire clearly started in the engine compartment.

Losing a quart of oil every 3 to 4 weeks. No spots on the ground. Engine is consuming oil!

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey.while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the bolts for the engine disintegrated.the front of the engine was replaced.the manufacturer would not assist.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 3,700.

Check engine light or check oil light warning lights go on.when dealer immediately checks oil upon arriving at dealership, dipstick shows no oil.this has occurred 3 times since 10/09. *ln

Engine ping, detonation, preignition issues.

Honda odyssey exl oil consumption-i have a 2009 odyssey that consumes oil.roughly, every 1,500 miles, i am adding a quart of oil.

Water in rear tail lights on the top and sides after raining.

Subject: 2008-2009-2010 honda odyssey tail light defects comments: 2008-2009-2010 honda odyssey tail lights are susceptible to water penetration which will eventually short out the tail lights. This applies to the portion of the tail light which is attached to the rear hatch door. Water accumulates in the white part of the lens which is at the bottom of the tail light in these model years (i.e., the back up lights). There is apparently a design or manufacturing defect in the sealed light system. I have had both tail lights replaced in my 2010 odyssey due to water penetration & collection. I have photographic evidence to support this claim.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated the vehicle was leaking fuel and the fuel warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The contact was made aware of recall nhtsa campaign id number: 14v112000 (fuel system, gasoline). However, the part need was unavailable to perform the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

2009 honda odyssey. Consumer received recall for vehicle but has to wait for repair because of staff of dealership. Consumer unsatisfied. *tathe consumer was informed the recall could not be performed as there were too many items in the vehicle and the vehicle had too much gas. Recall # 14v112000.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey.the contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v112000 (fuel system, gasoline). However, the dealer refused to perform the recall repairs since the vehicle had been modified changing the location of the fuel tank. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The vehicle had not exhibited the failure.

We own a 2009 honda odyssey that recently experienced failed gas struts in the hatch. As a result, my wife was struck in the head injuring her. Honda agreed to repair even though it is out of the 36k miles warranty. There is a recall for the 2009 odyssey for the exact same failure mode, but only for the motorized hatch. (ours is not motorized). I would like you to look into the possibility of having honda increase the scope of the recall to include non-motorized hatches. The dealer took possession of the gas struts from the hatch as they indicated honda of america demanded the parts for their own research.i was not able to hold onto them.besides the obvious injury my wife incurred, my young toddler twins were also at risk if they happened to be near the hatch and it collapsed.

Honda odyssey fuel door and driver side sliding door not open.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle leaked fuel. The contact had to fill the fuel tank more than usual and the fuel would continue to leak. The failure caused a fuel odor to be present inside the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to honda of orlando (2211 north semoran blvd, orlando, fl 32807, 866-938-0927) and the power steering fluid was replaced, but the fuel leak continued. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 13,754.

While stopped at a 4 way traffic intersection w/light and with foot on the brake, the engine raced on it's own causing the car to surge ahead unexpectantly. I had to take it out of gear to avoid an accident.

2009 honda odyssey. Rear hatch door in backwill slam shut without any warning or being closed.no wind or external force caused it to slam shut very fast. Thank goodness there was no one under the hatch door when it happened. Also, rear hatch door sometimes will not stay up without being propped up to avoid from closing.

Honda odyssey fuel door and driver side sliding door not open.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. While driving various speeds, the rear driver and passenger side automatic sliding doors inadvertently opened and also failed to close automatically. The door ajar indicator illuminated. The failure drained the battery, causing the contact to replace the battery twice. The vehicle was taken to apple honda (1375 us-58, riverhead, ny 11901, 631-727-0555) where it was diagnosed that the latches and the center rollers needed to be replaced. The failures were repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.

I bought 2009 honda odyssey, but in 3 months, whenever i push brake on the down hill road, the brake will have very big noise and can not stop the car right away. I send to honda dealer for repair, they told me that 2009 odyssey has this kind of issue and can not be fixed, it is designed issue, so i hope you can do further investigation.

Engine light came up. Drive light flashes. Moving into drive is very noisy. Car hesitates to move and changes gear late.

My 2009 odyssey 06/05/15 it currently has 115,000 miles on it.this is the second engine light dealing with the transmission.when i first got the car i had it routinely serviced at the dealership. The first time it was the clutch this time it is the torque converter, so all internal.the gears are fine until 5th or overdrive.

2009 honda odyssey. Issues on the automatic transmission. On 4th gear just shudders either downshifting or up shifting while driving. And besides all this also makes a knocking sound either backing up or moving forward. Besides makes a humming sound from transmission when driving.

Transmission downshifts are extremely rough, especially from 45 mph.when slowing down from this speed and re-accelerating from 25 mph (as in slowing for an intersection or traffic), the downshifting and upshifting are both rough - to the point of wondering whether the transmission will fall out, or not.this condition has existed from the day i purchased the car.took it to the dealer in february 2010 for a honda-requested transmission programming update.that didn't do anything.

While stopped at a 4 way traffic intersection w/light and with foot on the brake, the engine raced on it's own causing the car to surge ahead unexpectantly. I had to take it out of gear to avoid an accident.

2009 honda odyssey lx. 2 times i was stopping and pushed the brake and accelerator at same time.motor was racing and abs was coming on - very frightening as i did not know what the problem was and motor is very powerful.almost rolled into busy 55 mph intersection first time and almost hit basketball post in driveway second time.have never had this problem with a vehicle and have been driving for over 30 years.plain sneakers were being worn - not winter boots.seems to be little difference in height or location of brake pedal with respect to gas pedal.*tw

Vehicle above 40 mphhonda dealer refuses to work on it anymore.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle vibrated and jerked abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

I just bought 2009 odyssey from used car dealer at 37125 miles and on the first day itself i noticed few problems with the van which is still under power train warranty.1) it makes a noise with little jerk during startup, seems like transmission issue2) steering wheel gets lots of vibration between the speed of 45mph and 57mph and looks like van is being dragged...3) at the speed of 40-50mph there is wind sound coming underneath of the van looks like it has some kind of resistance by the badly designed aerodynamic body and which makes you feel that car will be dragged by the wind.i hope honda should consider this issue seriously as transmission may cause accident any time, even wind drag and steering vibration may definitely cause an accident.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle violently accelerated without depressing the accelerator peal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact was informed to take the vehicle to a dealer. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the steering wheel vibrated when driving approximately 20 mph and above. The contact also stated that the vehicle made a drowning, loud noise at the same time it vibrated. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer six times for diagnostic testing. The torque converter was replaced, but the repairs did not correct the vibration. The manufacturer did not authorize any future repairs on the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred ever since the vehicle was purchased from the dealer on december 30, 2016. The approximate failure mileage was 60,223.

Transmission has rough downshifts while decelerating.first rough downshift occurs around 40-45 mph.the second rough downshift occurs around 25 mph.during the second rough downshift, it feels as though the transmission is shifting twice.you can also hear a distinct clack noise and feel it through the floorboard of the vehicle.transmission software updated twice but problem still exists.we also experience abrupt deceleration when removing your foot from the accelerator around 30 mph.the van slows down abruptly as though the engine has stalled.we feel the transmission behavior is a safety issue because you do not know what level of engine/transmission braking will occur when you take your foot off of the accelerator.this makes you feel uncomfortable driving the vehicle.

2009 honda odyssey - vehicle has moderate vibration at around 40 mph.root cause according to honda is defective torque converter clutch.have not verified root cause with independent source.no accident reported as of 10/26/09.

Van broke down in teh middle of busy highway and traffic.

A six year old boy was playing with a seatbelt buckle. He stuck his finger in the square part of the buckle and the finger was stuck. Despite best efforts we were unable to get his finger out. The seatbelt had to be cut, the boy/buckle had to be taken to the er where bolt cutters were used to remove the buckle.

The front seat belt retractor tensioners don't work consistently. Sometimes the belt is a little loose when fastened after moving around a bit, or doesn't release when trying to put the belt on. When exiting the vehicle the belt often doesn't retract the belt enough to keep the belt or buckle/latch from getting closed in the door. It has been an ongoing problem over the last few years and the dealer said they are not covered by any warranty. As the primary safety device in a vehicle, i believe they should be designed to work reliably for the life of the vehicle. Other vehicles of the same age don't have the same issues.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that all of the seat belts in the vehicle were too short and could not be fastened. He was also unable to lock the seatbelt which is a safety hazard and in violation of a new york state law. The failure mileage was 175. The current mileage was6000.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the seat belt located in the rear third row seat on the passenger side failed to release. The child had to be cut out of the seat belt. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be inspected. The vin and failure mileage were not available.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that while attempting to release a child from the rear passenger's side of the vehicle, the seat belt failed and the contact was unable to release the child from the seat. The contact had to severe the seat belt straps in order to release the child from the seat. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle was stopped and she was unable to remove a child from the rear passenger seat because the child became tangled in the seat belt. In order to free the child, the contact had to cut the seat belt. As a result, the child suffered bruising from the seat belt. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,000.updated 12/06/11*ljthe dealer informed the consumer the tractor would not release, once it became tangled.the passenger rear seat belt was replaced on november 7, 2011

Third row seat will not lock in place.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated the driver's seat head rest was hurting their neck and back. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told there was nothing that could be done to change the design. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 31,471.

Brake rotors showed abnormal wear with little notice. In previous two weeks, the brakes appeared "soft" and have required firmer braking. When i took the vehicle in for new brake pads, the mechanic showed the rotors to us as warped and unable to be machined. We have about 55k miles on the vehicle and are not heavy brakers. Looking at the online forum, it is clear that there is an issue with the brake system and in particular with premature wear of the rotors. As an aside, we have never replaced our rotors in our 2003 honda civic with 150k miles.

Front brakes and rotors were changed several times. Last with drilled/slotted rotors. Vibration is less with those, but still there. This seems to be a problem with other people as well. So speed little vibration, higher speed increases vibration. Has been going over the years, is worse when in the mountains.

We were coming down a mountain and even though i was using the engine to slow down the brakes started pulsing and the steering wheel started shaking.since that time the problem has gotten worse and now happens at highway speeds.the problem does not go away until the brakes have cooled completely down.i checked on line and found out that this has been a problem with the odyssey's for years and happens even after replacing the pads and rotors.our vehicle now has 74,000miles on it and when the problem occurs the shaking of the steering wheel can be severe.

My brakes went completely out on my new 2009 honda odyssey ex-l while on vacation with only 2,000 miles on the vehicle.on a few occasions over the last month and a half that i have owned my odyssey the vsa light (vehicle stability assistance) has come on for no reason and could not be turned off.normally the vsa is on alltimes but the light does not come on unless the conditions are bad.(ice, snow, rain, rocks)when this light has come on i have been traveling at approx. 50mph, not braking, and the conditions were sunny and dry.then the horrible day, with my 5 year old in the back seat i was turning left at a light at approx. 20-25 mph when i pushed down my brake and heard a grinding sound and no brakes.i began pumping the brakes, and the pedal went to the floor.after a few seconds (maybe 5) the brakes engaged.i immediately pulled over and looked under the car.nothing, and nothing at the intersection where i had just turned.the local dealership had to call honda engineering which said that there must be an issue with the vsa system (that this same issue has happened to other owners) and all they needed to do was unplug the vsa it, wait a few seconds and then plug it back in.i will be returning to ohio from hilton head in a few days which will require driving through some very steep mountains with my 5 year old and 1 year old.i don't feel confident in their diagnoses.honda will not issue a loaner for me to drive home and then tow my vehicle 600 miles to me.

2009 honda odyssey, problem started on monday 04/26/10. Early morning as i was leaving my place for work, i noticed that the brakes were 'soft'; at the first stop sign, it took the brake to stop the van a longer distance than usual, speed is below 20mph. I was still able to drive to work without further incident that time. Then at noon i went out to have lunch, i drove to a nearby place about 10 miles, while i'm driving the vsa off signal lamp came on, driving speed at 35mph, good driving/weather condition, road is well paved; when i got to my destination, i turned off the engine, waited a few minutes, and started the engine again, the vsa signal lamp is now off. No further incident that time again. The next instance that the vsa signal lamp went on while i was driving on my way home, it stayed on for a few minutes, then it went off. I brought the vehicle to the dealer/service shop to have it check, left it there overnight and got it back the next day; i was told that the problem was a faulty steering angle sensor. I'm now suspecting that the recent recalls regarding my07/08 odysseys is also affecting certain my09.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that when depressing the brakes she would feel a vibrating sensation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they advised her that the rotors failed and would need replacing. The vehicle was repaired yet the failure recurred 8,000 miles later. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

Based on my research, there are many other complaints by honda owners of premature brake rotor wear and/or warping. This causes the steering wheel to shimmy or vibrate when applying breaks during high speeds especially on the freeway. I bought my odyssey brand new and my dealer said i only have 20% wear on my brake pads. But the rotor apparently requires resurfacing or replacement to fix the vibration. For the rotor to fail at this early stage of wear and tear process is totally unacceptable. It is my belief that honda puts sub-standard brake rotor components intentionally to save money. I'm not sure of the potential safety concern of this practice but life is precious enough not to take any chances. The braking system to me is the most crucial safety component of any vehicle. I've owned many cars before and replacing the rotor before the break pads with only 30k miles is totally something new to me. I was shock to learn how much results i got by searching "honda steering wheel vibration brake rotors) on the internet. A lot of people are angry about it but nothing has been done to bring this up with honda formally. Their customer service has a revolving door policy that this is just part of the normal wear and tear and completely not covered under their warranty. This is totally unacceptable!

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the brake pedal went down so far that it touched the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to two authorized dealerships where the contact was informed that they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000. The current mileage was approximately 10,600.

My 2009 honda odyssey ex-l has suffered from poor braking performance since new. The pedal constantly feels spongy. This condition forces me to begin braking sooner to ensure that the car stops atthe right time. The car has been back to the dealer at least four times to address this problem. Brake pads have been replaced. Disc rotors have been resurfaced and replaced. The entire brake system (including the abs module)has been bled more than once. The dealer even installed a device the service advisor said would make the brakes actuate earlier in the brake pedal travel. Under all circumstances the dealer has maintained that the brake pedal feel and braking performance are normal. While the condition has not caused me to have a collision, like many other odyssey owners i maintain that this condition is not normal.

First time noticed soft brakes then pedal went down almost to the floor which ended up making girding noise. This now has occurred many times over especially going down hill of any grade low or high. I have complained to my local honda dealer but no action but to say they have heard of others complaints but can't re-duplicate nor has fix for that. I went to the honda forum and there were many complaints regards to these soft brakes and similar issues. In that forum many mechanically minds have concluded that odyssey uses same small brakes/calipers as smaller suv- cvr. Comparing that these are just too under powered brakes for our heavy minivan. Some have found easy solution by replacing them with honda passport's brakes/rotors/calipers to satisfaction. I believe this is a big safety issue. They know about it on same model on yr 07 & 08. I have so far had to pay dealer for brake fluid bleed & flush(it was dirty and very dark) at 27k mi., rotor resurface for both front and rear, brake pads replace at 42k mi. I'm also previous owner of 2001 odyssey and though experienced auto tranny issue, never had brake problem nor many services related to brakes. Please investigate this model and hopefully we don't have to keep paying or worst have accident some where down the road because of this under powered brakes.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the brakes felt abnormally spongy when depressed. While stopped at a traffic stop on an incline, the contact depressed the brakes when the brakes failed and caused the contact to crash into another vehicle. There were no injuries and the police were not contacted.one week prior to the crash, the vehicle was taken to the dealer for replacement of the brake pads and the resurfacing of the rotors. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

Drive over 65 mph, steering vibrationbrake over 40mph, noise.

Soft brakes: car does not stop unless brakes are pumped very hard to the floor.

The vehicle, a 2009 honda odyssey, has a soft spongy brake pedal that occassionally goes all the way to the floor, resulting in the vehicle rolling past stop signs and red lights while the pedal is fully depressed.the most recent episode occurred in a private development, where the vehicle was traveling at less than 25mph.upon approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and there was uncommanded engine acceleration, resulting in the vehicle traveling well past a stop sign.operator took the vehicle to the local honda dealership and discussed possible brake problems, including reports of faulty vsa modular pumps, and possible accelerator linkage problems.the dealer inspected the vehicle, said the brakes were in good working condition, and that the operation is "normal."the operator has owned many cars, including other honda products, and never experienced this condition in the past.

We have an ongoing issue with violent brake vibration at highway speeds. Earlier this year when the van had approx. 15,000 miles we started experiencing the vibration. When we brought it to the dealer around 18,000 miles and pointed the problem out and they said the rotors were warped and we need to have them turned and we did. Well here we are at 23,000 miles and the brake vibration is back with a vengeance. We are headed to the dealership this week but i already know what they are going to tell me - to turn the rotors. Well, i have been driving all makes of cars for over 30 years and i have never needed rotors turned at such low mileages and absolutely never had them turned twice within 5000 miles!! in the day, the only reason to turn rotors was to remove the grooves created by the rivets that held the brake pads to the rotor. This stock rotor is clearly inferior in design (lack of cooling or poor quality metals) and needs to be addressed by honda before someone gets hurt. There are several owners of these vehicles complaining about the same issue on the net.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the brakes were wearing at a very low mileage. A grinding noise could be heard when the brakes were applied at any speed, so the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. Approximately two years later, all of the brakes and rotors were replaced. The failure mileage was 26,000.

Driving on highway felt strong vibration on the steering wheel when stepping on brakes at 50 mph. The vibrations is felt stronger at 50 mph or above. It causing a high vibration on the steering wheel. No crashes at this time. Took vehicle to the dealer because is on warranty, dealer informed defective rotorsand rotors were uneven and need resurface, rotors are covered by warranty for just 10kmiles, vehicle has 20k miles, dealer blames bad rotors on bad driving. I believe they are wrong i have two otherhonda and i have no problems with rotors at that early stage of driving mileage.

My honda odyssey has 11,000 miles on it. The vehicle was making a loud noise while backing out of the driveway one day. I noticed that the back right rotor was broke into two pieces. The dealer has refused responsibility for the repairs stating that something must have caused the rotor to fail, and they could not determine why it failed. The broken rotor also caused damage to the wheel which i must pay for because they will not fix the van under the warranty.

2009 honda odyssey, brake pedal is soft and go to the floor when apply the brake. Back at the dealer (3 times) can not fix, replace front disk and brake pads, still the same. Please help.

Drive over 65 mph, steering vibrationbrake over 40mph, noise.

The 2009 honda odyssey has a known power steering failure. American honda knows that it is a design flaw and has only offered an extended warranty of 7 yrs/100,000 miles via a tsb, not a recall. Unfortunately my car did not experience this problem till a year later after the warranty expired. I had difficulty reversing my car and it was harder to make turns from a stop position or when i was slowing down. If my steering had completely broken down, it would have been dangerous with my kids in the vehicle.luckily i don't drive on freeways a lot, otherwise having to put more effort steering my car or having it fail would be bad. When i contacted american honda, they refused to accept responsibility even though they knew it was a safety issue.with the pump failing, it creates a unsafe environment for not only me, my kids, and other drivers when i'm struggling to steer my car. The cost of the repair was $850 without the guarantee that it wouldn't fail again since it's a design issue.there are numerous reports of this happening to other odyssey owners.i believe that this should be a recall that honda fixes because it effects not only my model, but models 2007 and on.having trouble steering a car is extremely dangerous and should be considered a recall instead of a tsb.some cars will exhibit this dangerous failure after the warranty expires and we shouldn't be penalized for it if it doesn't fail right away. It's not right that i was sold a car that is unsafe, esp. Since it's a family car and i transport my kids everyday in it.

I leased a 2009 honda odyssey with 0 miles. The van pulls to the right, honda dealer work on the car 4 times but no success, my wife and 2 little children drive this car, one of the mechanic stated to me that some of honda odyssey are defected and cannot be repaired. The van has only $4000 miles and honda dealer is not accepting the fact that odyssey has manufacturing problem. Please advice what to do. Thank you

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey touring. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, there was resistance in the steering and also a loud whining noise.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the power steering column needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified and a claim was filed. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 157,000 and the current mileage was 171,000. Updated 3/27/13the consumer stated there was a loud whine coming from the power steering pump when driving, and extra effort was required to the steering wheel at low speeds; such as parking. The power steering pump was replaced twice.

2009 honda odyssey. Issues on the automatic transmission. On 4th gear just shudders either downshifting or up shifting while driving. And besides all this also makes a knocking sound either backing up or moving forward. Besides makes a humming sound from transmission when driving.

The power back hatch on my 2009 honda odyssey exl slams shut and will not hold.the power back hatch opens all the way up, tries to stay up but slams back down. It failed intermittently at first but is failing all the time now. The hatch slams with incredible force and if any of my 3 kids are in the vicinity it could cause serious injury.a vehicle less than 2 years old should not have this type of issue.i have a full front to back warranty and apparently it does not cover the back hatch.

The manual lift gate (trunk) no longer stays open.same part failure as power lift gate recall (12v062000) but not covered since it is a manual lift gate (due to lower complaints and injuries).

Right rear sliding door has opened while car is moving. Suspect it is the cause of the battery being drained twice in the last few days when car was not driven during 48 hour period. The door will not open electronically now. It has to be forced open manually.

On two recent occasions, the tailgate has lowered itself without the driver pressing the tailgate button on the dashboard or on the tailgate itself. It lowers without giving the normal audible signal.and in both cases, there was a minor injury occurring as a result of the problem.once to a child, and the latest to an adult.in the latest incident, the drivers head (ear) was impacted by the downward force of the tailgate, pressing the head against the left rear corner of the vehicle while the driver was leaning into the rear compartment.very painful to the driver's left ear, but not immediately requiring medical attention.the service department of our local honda dealership - where the vehicle is normally maintained - states this vin is not under recall for faulty tailgate struts or related.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the rear lift gate failed to remain open because the gas filled struts failed. An authorized dealer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 12v062000 (structure: body: hatchback/liftgate: support device). The manufacturer was notified and also stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. They offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 30,000.

I have a problem with the drivers side door that i believe is a dangerous safety issue.the drivers door has a problem with the actuator, which controls the automated locking and unlocking of the door.the actuator is defective and no longer works.as a direct result, the door (and all of the remaining doors in the vehicle) will no longer automatically unlock.in the event of an emergency, the door latch to open and exit the car immediately will not work. The door knob must be manually lifted; this is the only way to unlock the door.prior to this issue, the vehicle door swould automatically unlock when the car was placed in park position and then locked when the car was moved out of park (either reverse, neutral or drive). I have been told that this is a $400 repair to replace the arm actuator.this part specifically controls the automated locking/unlocking mechanism for the drivers side door (and all other doors of the minivan, which must all be manually unlocked since this part is not functioning properly). I have tried to use the door lever to open the car and when it is in the locked position, the door will not unlock, ever.the door knob must be lifted in all instances and i believe this is a safety issue for all passengers in the vehicle.

The automatic side doors. The left sliding door when you go to open the door it opens just alittle and then closes i have to have my kids not to get to fast on trying to get out cause it has almost closed on one of their legs. The left door all no longer opens from the door handle only from the outside handle or the button the driver can push. It also when it is open and you go to close it it will start to close then reopen. Sometime i have to put the van in reverse or drive to get the door to even close. Sometimes i can get it to close while open with the inside handle but i have to be careful cause it's closed on my arm a few times plus seems like the sensor the door is supposed to have on the door to tell someone or something is the doesn't work the right sliding door is also starting to do the same thing since i've been having my kids try to use that door more. I'm afraid my kids or whoever is in the van at any time is gonna end up trapped and no able to get out in an emergency or anything and for bigger kids and adults it's harder to climb over seats. And also the driver doors automatically lock but when you try to go and unlock it it will lock back so you have to unlock manually.

Drivers side sliding door latching mechanism wont latch a major safety concern with kids in back seat

Front driver side door will not unlock manually or electronically. While taking a drive to the store and upon arriving today i was unable to get out of the driver door.this could present a danger if for some reason i can't exit my car in a hurry.

The paint on roof is disappearing i think from wind friction started happening at 40000 miles and has gotten worse only have 60000 miles and we take care of it- it should still look like new

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the rear liftgate would not remain in a secured upward position whenever accessing the trunk area and the lift gate would close abruptly. There was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 12v062000 (structure: body: hatchback/liftgate: support device ); however the contact's vin was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

The liftgate does not always stay in the up position. It lifts to the top and then drops quickly with no resistance. It seems worse when the outside temperature is colder (below 40-50 degrees f. There was a recall on the gas struts in about 2012. I called vic bailey honda in spartanburg, sc. Someone in the service department said their records showed that the recall had been completed on the vehicle.

While opening my tailgate on my honda odyssey van yesterday at around 6:00 p.m.it fell down on my head. What would cause that to happen? i did not do anything to try and fix it. The dealership was closed.

First occurrence happened on 11/24/2011, when i open the gate to get luggage, the automatic liftgate opened all the way up, bounce couple of times and started to close. If i tried to open the gate manually, it would pull and tried to close. I pulled the fuse to try to reset the liftgate to no avail.

As i was unloading groceries from the rear of my van, the lift gate suddenly and unexpectedly dropped on me.i was not injured but if i had been a small child or a weak elderly person it could have had tragic results.the same problem occurred when i tried to open the gate a second time while standing safely away from the vehicle.the problem seems to be with the stay assembly tailgate opener which keeps the gate in the open position.there was no problem earlier in the day when i loaded groceries into the van however..

The struts failed to hold up the tailgate and fall on my wife head, during the loading of our groceries on our recent grocery's outing.the two gas-powered tailgate struts (support rods) that raise and hold up the power tailgate of the honda odyssey van's equipped with them failed to hold up the tailgate.they are now no longer functional.

The vehicle was stationary.the driver-side sliding door fell off when we opened it, falling to the ground, causing extensive body damage to the rear panel.we had the passenger side door repaired already but are having problems with it opening again.this should be a recall from honda.i've read online that many honda odyssey owners are having this same experience

While my wife was loading the cargo area in the rear of the vehicle after shopping, the lift gate dropped suddenly. The supports no longer hold the lift gate in the open position. Fortunately, she was not standing under the lift gate at the time.

Paint on the roof of vehicle, taken to dealership and said "no recalls for that 2009 color but also said there was a 2008 and a 2010 paint recall so the dealership and i paid half and half about 2 months i found out the corrosion was also on the hood so i took it back i was told this time the whole car had to be repainted an the money i spent previously did not count because i could not afford to repaint the vehicle i left it alone."

Sliding door issues.first incident happened while driving on the freeway and my passenger sliding door opened.took to dealership and got fixed at a cost.continued to have problems with both my sliding doors not closing properly for a total of 6 times.i am now having the same problem again with my drivers side passenger door. The doors beeps while driving and does not close properly driving or standing still.

Paint is releasing from the primer on and in front/back of eack front door.there is no peeling on the roof or behind each rear tire where we would expect problems.honda refuses to fix the problem. This problem occurred in corpus christi, tx after the local dealer performed minor body work (new front bumper and two scratches on the rear panesl) - but the peeling is not occurring where the body work was done.

We own a 2009 honda odyssey that recently experienced failed gas struts in the hatch.the car was parked & i was loading groceries into it when the rear liftgate came crashing down - i was lucky enough to jump out ofthe way in time or could have been seriously hurt.. There is a recall for the 2009 odyssey for the exact same failure mode, but only for the motorized hatch. (ours is not motorized). I would like you to look into the possibility of having honda increase the scope of the recall to include non-motorized hatches.

Clear coat paint is peeling (hood)-looks terrible

Passenger automatic sliding door does not open when needed while stationary. The door stays shut and needs multiple presses of the button or handle before it opens or closes. Very inconcienent and dangerous and has been ongoing for many months.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that while opening the power lift gate, the door failed to operate. The contact mentioned that the lift gate was not able to reopen. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign: 12v062000 (structure).the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Leak on driver side side airbag. Possibly trim piece that runs entire length of the car. Shorted out entire electrical fuse box i under the hood. Told it was cause of the windshield gasket. Replaced entire electrical issue and windshield to now have the same leak issue again!

First the electric assist on the passenger side sliding door broke.then it started making a grinding noise and sticking frequently.finally the sliding door fell off completely damaging the body of the van and the door itself.the vehicle was parked in our driveway when this happened.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the rear lift gate would not remain open because the grease in the hinge was leaking.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.

The power back hatch on my 2009 honda odyssey ex l slams shut and will not hold. The power back hatch opens all the way up, tries to stay up but slams back down. While loading the vehicle with luggage the hatch slammed down on my back knocking me to the ground.the strut failed without warning.

Power lift gate failed while trunk was opening; i pressed the trunk button on the inside of the car and the lift gate began to open as usual. My 10 year old child was putting baseball gear in trunk and the lift gate beeped twice as it was trying to fully open but could not.it then beeped continuously as it lowered. My son was able to get out of the way.now the lift gate will not stay propped open and it is very difficult to open manually.i will take vehicle to honda dealer monday but it does not appear my vin is included in the recall for the struts in the power lift gate.

The power sliding door on the driver side fell off. The door was sticking and would not slide closed, so i turned off the power to the door. When i tried to manually close the door, the door pulled off the track. I could not get the door back on the track. I tried to manually close the door, but because the door had been pulled off the track, the brace completely scratched up the door and bent up the panel that covers the track on which the brace for the door slides. I needed to take the vehicle to the body shop to replace the brace. I am spending hundreds and hundreds of $$ because the door fell off. There are many posts about similar problems with hondaodysseys. The faulty sliding mechanism appears to be a manufacturing problem. It's ridiculous that i need to repair a door because it has worn out. I'm attaching a picture of the closed door with the brace sticking out and the damage to the body from when i had attempted to close the door.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the rear door liftgate failed. The liftgate would only open half way and the contact had to hold the liftgate up manually for the gate to fully open. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vin was not available. The failure and the current mileage was 76,000.

Paint is peeling off the car, leading to possible premature rusting and reduced safety of vehicle

Approximately 6 months ago, early 2017, the paint on the top passenger side began to oxidize. The paint first started to appear white and is now turning gray and very dark gray in several spots. The remainder of the vehicle remains unaffected.

My 2009 honda odyssey manually operated rear liftgate will not hold open. Given the weight of the liftgate, it could cause serious injury if the strut failed when the liftgate is open with people under it.

Unable to lift the window glass up when it's down.generally occurs in winter. This was the same problem that i had from the first year that i bought the car.once the problem occurs if i wait a while no firm timing i can bring the windows up.generally occurs on passenger side of the windows both front and rear window.taken to dealer but by that time it recovers so i am stuck with problem.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph when the front passenger's side door opened independently. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and the door was closed however, the latch failed to remain closed in a secure position. The failure became more frequent in colder weather temperatures. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer numerous times. A lubricant was applied to the door latch however, the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000. The vin was unavailable.

The tailgate struts that support the tailgate (back) door of the minivan failed (collapsed) when the door was in its open position. This caused the back door to slam shut with great force. The struts are cylinders filled with gas under pressure used to pop the door open and hold it open. The door is very heavy and did not fail in a failsafe manner (lockup for example), instead the system failed to support the door in its open position. There is a recall on this very problem, make, model and year: honda odyssey 2009, however, my vin was not included in the recall. Honda inc confirms that they are receiving reports like this one from other people whose cars were not made part of the recall.

My passenger power slide door kept opening up while driving and would latch when turned off which deadened the battery it was fixed for $680.00.now the other slide door is doing the same thing.looking online there are many that have had this happen to.why hasn't there been a safety recall on those doors.my grandkids are always buckled in, but do you know how it feels when your traveling and the doors open when they are in the van, and now i'm faced with another expensive bill again.will probably never buy another honda again.

I thought the driver side sliding door on my 2009 honda odyssey was closed but when driving at a speed of approximately 30 mph, the door flew open. I pulled over and tried to close the door but it would not close. After trying several times, i decided i needed to have it looked at. I reached back and held the door closed with my left arm/hand as i drove slowly to the dealer. The dealer was closed but a salesman gave me a rental car for the night and said they would call the next day, which they did. They told me the latch was not working properly and would need to replace it.what choice did i have since i couldn't drive it the way it was.so, i paid $376.61 to have it replaced. I thought the problem was resolved, but the same exact thing happened on the same door about 2 months later. Again i reached back and held the door closed as i drove it back to the dealer. As you can imagine i was quite upset since i had spent all that money to supposedly have the problem fixed. After the mechanic played around with the latches with a screw driver and grease he was able to close the door. He informed me that the rear latch on the door was sticking preventing the door from closing.he was surprised they didn't try that 2 months prior before replacing the latch. The service manager even told me they have never had to replace a latch assembly in these vans. So, i asked if i could get reimbursed for the cost of replacing the latch but was denied.this is why i am writing honda to see if you will reimburse me the $376.61 i paid to have the latch assembly replaced that didn't need to be.i can provide you with a copy of the receipt from the dealer, if needed. This is the 2nd odyssey i have owned and have always had a problem with the sliding doors sticking making it hard to open them but have never had a problem closing them.i hope you will assist me in this matter.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that while retrieving her infant from the rear driver's side of the vehicle, the sliding door detached from the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the top roller of the door needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000.

While the rear door (hatch) was open and i was unloading the vehicle, with no warning, the hatch slammed down. I opened the hatch again, and it will no longer stay open on it's on.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. While driving 60 mph, the contact noticed that the front end of the vehicle began to vibrate slightly. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where the two front tires were balanced, but the failure continued. In addition, the contact stated that moments after opening the rear hatch, he was struck in the back when the hatch fell downward. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the rear gas struts were replaced. The current and failure mileages were 38,000.

The struts supporting the rear hatch door are no longer supporting the door and it fell on my head when putting in my golf clubs. I believe it is the same strut problem they had in the recall for similar models, other vin numbers. I talked to my dealer and honda corporation but it is a different vin and not covered by the recall. I think it is the struts on all of the 2009 honda odyssey's and not just a select few as in the recall.

Power lift gate failure - without warning the power lift gate failed to operate and the struts do not keep it open.the lift gate falls with such force that it caused a serious injury (needed 8 stitches).dealer is investigating the cause and a solution.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated the rear lift gate fell on her head as she was getting an item out of the vehicle. The gate would only remain in the open position when someone was holding it. The vehicle repaired. The failure mileage and current mileage was 8,000.updated 06/17/11*ljupdated 06/27/11

Gas struts in rear hatch failed.hatch came down quickly and without warning.injury was minor abrasion to index finger that did not require medical attention.believed to be related to honda recall #s22, nhtsa campaign #12v062000. Inquired about recall campaign to local honda dealer.honda dealer responded that the campaign does not cover the model in question. Campaign should be expanded.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated the vehicle was parked when she lifted the rear lift gate and it fell, striking her on the top of her head, neck and shoulders. She attempted to hold the lift gate in place but it continued to fail. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. In addition, all four power windows would independently open. The dealer was also unable to duplicate the failure of the windows. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that an investigator would further examine the vehicle for the cause of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 23,000 and the current mileage was 23,320.

The contact owns a 2009 honda odyssey. The contact stated that the rear power liftgate was opened without manual assist. It reached the top and stayed up for a few seconds, then closed unexpectedly. The problem then kept occurring. The dealer finally agreed to replace the liftgate support struts under warranty.

My tailgate support struts failed in 2012.they were subject to a recall and were replaced.they have now failed again in the same manner.i had to replace them again 2/12/2015 at a cost of $!56.31.just as when they were recalled, the struts stopped supporting the weight of the door so that when it opens, it suddenly comes down again.it has hit me in the head as i reached into the rear to grab a bag.even when you open it manually, the struts cannot hold the door open and it slumps down about halfway open.this is the exact same issue that caused the struts to be recalled in 2012.this is a design defect in the 2009 honda odyssey and honda should pay for any repairs.

The rear powered tailgate has malfunctioned.the struts do not hold the door open and when you open the hatch with the powere button it fully opens then jerks two times then closes.if you open the hatch manually the struts do not hold the door at all and it slams shut.

Tailgate (trunk's hatchback) door doesn't stay open and keeps closing back.

The tailgate struts that support the tailgate (back) door of the minivan failed (collapsed) when the automatic door was opening. There is a recall on this very problem, make, model and year: honda odyssey 2009, however, my vin was not included in the recall. Honda inc confirms that they are receiving reports like this one from other people whose cars were not made part of the recall.

Rear back hatch suspension shocks leak and lose pressure.per honda dealership could be a on going problem and needs replaced every couple of years.per the honda dealership, they have seen this happen in vehicles that are a year old.

Rear right wheel camber can't be aligned with extensive noise from rear suspension. Concern that suspension could be failing. Have honda care warranty from the manufacturer but they refused to diagnose and solve the problem. Dealer wants thousands of dollars to tear down and rebuild the suspension at my expense, which is a significant financial burden in spite of the warranty

The van has michelin 235/60r17 tires purchased new in 7/4/2009.one tire failed 3/5/12 with sidewall rupture at 30,500 miles; i have a photo of the damaged michelin tire area. Tire had rapid air leak - essentially a blowout; was going 20 mph.second tirefailed on 8/10/12 with leak at 35,700 miles.tire had sidewall leak deflating tire in 10-12 minutes; was going 15 mph.second tire id is 235/60r17 102t 1391h3mnx 5008.have photo of tire leak area.second failed tire and two remaining michelin tires on van appear to have dry rot on sidewalls.remaining tires have same id and 5008 and 0209 at end.in both cases, tire was not hit and shows no damage other than sidewall rubber degrading.tread depth is good.have photos showing dry rot degradation.i have no confidence in two remaining michelin tires and am replacing remaining tires on van with the second michelin failed tire.

The fault description recently reported in nhtsa campaign number 13t006000 for michelin tire failure for a series of tires is exactly that i reported in complaint odi number 10470716 last year.i included photographs of the 235/60r17 tires, two of which had failed, and the other two were showing degradation damage.the 235/60r17 tires should be included in the recall.thanks,

Safety issue no problem. Asking about a paint issue. The vehicles paint has oxidized a lot on roof and starting on other parts of vehicle.

The rear power liftgate was opened without manual assist. It reached the top and stayed up for a few seconds, then closed unexpectedly falling onto the head and sholders. The problem kept getting worse. The rear lift gate if manually opened would fall after a few seconds.

Car started shuddering at 35-40 mph. Took to shop and was told it was wheel bearings. Had them replaced and the issue stopped for a couple weeks and started back up between 40-45 mph on city road or highway. This only happens when accelerating. If we let off the gas it stops. Took it to another mechanic and it would not replicate, but earlier in the day it occurred numerous times. It has been happening for at least a month. The vehicle has 153k miles.

My 2009 honda odyssey both power sliding doors neither one works. The driver side slide door opened and couldn't close had to take it off the hinge and do a manual close you just can't open it or the door will completely come off. The passenger side sliding door will not open at all.before all this happened the driver side slide door wouldn't close unless i was in drive or reverse. I have called around and this is an issue with a lot of honda odyssey van doors. To me this is a hazard due to the fact my kids have to climb in the back just to get in the car cause my doors will not even open manually. Why has this not been made an issue if there's so many vans with same said sliding side door issues.some of us can't afford major fixes like this that shouldn't even become an issue.

This is the "fourth incident," third claim.prior claim odi id#'s are:10438034 and 10439310.the latest incident occurred on 1/14/12 (12/59pm), 2 minutes after i started engine (cold) in my driveway and as i approached the stop sign at 175 from my driveway.i was coming to an almost complete stop with my foot on the brake and the engine almost at idle.the engine suddenly started to race and the vehicle began to surge forward.since my foot was already on the brake, i was able to press hard to keep it from continuing forward and i immediately shifted into neutral.the racing stopped and the engine idled.at the same time a bicyclist crossed my bath and would have been run over had i not reacted so quickly.

2009 honda odyssey mini van was crashed by hitting a concrete block in the parking building with an unintended sudden acceleration.when the car parked into a spot, the car needed to readjust its position in parallel to the parking line.thus the driver changed to a rear mode and then suddenly heard very loud sound and the mini van drove very fast to the front direction and hit the concrete block.the brake did not work until it hit the block.the driver, my wife, had a minor injury of seat belt mark on her chest.the front car was damaged severely.it was so dangerous if the parking building did not have a thick concrete block.if not, the car should jump over to the lower floor and my wife could get killed.this car towed to honda dealers body shop yesterday.please investigate this case.the parking building: edward hospital, naperville, ilwe asked hospital security if there was a cctv in the parking building.unfortunately there was no cctv in the parking building.

This is a second filing as a third incident has occurred.the new incident occurred on 12/5/2011 (5:45 p.m.) in my driveway immediately after starting the engine which had been of for 40 minutes, but prior to that driven for 40 minutes.once again the engine "suddenly and unexpectedly" raced.my foot was not on the accelerator.text from the prior filing (odi# 10438034) is follows: on two occasions (11/28/2011 and 11/30/2011), after driving for several minutes (warmed up engine) and while approaching a stop light at about 3 mph (almost stopped) and when the engine had already come to idle, the engine suddenly surged (raced, with the tachometer jumping over halfway). The car lunged forward, but i pressed hard on the brakes and pushed the shifter into neutral. Then the engine idled and ran fine until the second incident during which the exact same event occurred. In both cases had i not already had my foot on the brake preparing to stop, the car would have crashed into the car that was stopped at the stop light in front of me. I took the car into the local honda dealer today, but they were unable to identify any problem.

On 2/3/2019 i was attempting to park my 2009 honda odyssey on a city street when it accelerated without any pressure being applied to the gas pedal. I was braking while rolling forward slowly and turning right into the parking space when the engine suddenly revved and accelerated the vehicle forward. I applied increasing braking pressure while the engine continued to rev, exceeding the stopping power of the brakes and causing the car to lurch forward toward a parked car in front of me. I managed to stop by quickly shifting the transmission from drive to park. If i had not shifted into park i would have hit the vehicle in front of me. The entire time this was happening, my foot was on the brake and no pressure was being applied to the accelerator pedal. After i shut off the engine and restarted the car, it returned to normal operation. I have reported this incident to american honda (case number 09315543) and i am bringing the vehicle in to a honda dealership for inspection. I am the original owner of the vehicle and it had approximately 121,000 miles on it and it has not been in an accident.

Rear window in 2009 honda odyssey shattered with no explanation.minivan was parked in garage.temperatures were about 40 degrees.had driven the vehicle about an hour earlier in very light traffic with no incidences.

Started vehicle in driveway monday 3/12/17, outside temp approximately 37* with rain. Turned on wipers, front and rear.turned on defrost front and rear. Immediately rear hatch window shattered, glass all fell into rear compartment behind 3rd row seats.had not even yet put vehicle into gear to back up. Vehicle had not been moved at all.had used wipers previously with no issues.there was nothing to indicate any problems with the rear glass before it spontaneously shattered.photos were taken next day after having pulled vehicle into garage overnight to keep from water damage.

The tpms causes slow air leaks to develop due to faulty gaskets/o rings.tires with this problem require refilling with approximately 5 lbs of air pressure per week.
