Takata recallthis car is under recall according to nhtsa's december 2016 third amended coordinated remedy order.the problem is that the recall is not showing up under a vin search for the car.honda has confirmed that this vin is affected by the takata recall, but it cannot send out a recall notice until nhtsa acknowledges the batch of affected vins honda sent it on or around january 10, 2017. I cannot get a dealership to perform the required repair until honda sends out the recall notice.that won't happen until nhtsa acknowledges that the vin, per honda, is affected by the recall.honda forwarded all the necessary information to nhtsa weeks ago. This is time-sensitive since my 3 1/2 year old son is quickly approaching the rear-facing weight limit of his car seat.even though his car seat is correctly installed in the rear seat, i cannot turn his seat around to face forward until i know he (and i) won't be at risk for shrapnel exploding into the passenger compartment.i've been following this recall closely since 2014, and it was not until may/june 2016 that 2008 honda fits were added, but not my honda fit at that time.living in coastal connecticut, i am no stranger to heat and humidity cycling and am baffled (and terrified) as to why my state was in the lowest priority geographical area, behind states such as arizona and pennsylvania.please provide explanations for these delays, and more importantly assistance in getting the necessary repair performed on this vehicle right away.thank you.please note that i am filing this complaint pursuant to jennifer timian's instructions in response to my email to her of 2/6/17.thank you.

My sister and i were sitting in stopped traffic on a california freeway in her 2008 honda fit when we were rear ended by another driver at about 50 mph. We both were wearing seatbelts. He struck us directly behind the passenger, and our vehicle then struck the car in front of us and the concrete median barrier to the left.he struck us with sufficient force that our car was a complete loss and we had to be removed from the vehicle with the jaws of life.none of the car's airbags deployed. Though i was wearing a seatbelt and shoulder harness, i struck the dash with my head and was knocked unconscious. The seatbelt did not restrain me. I have seen at least three other similar incidents online that involved a rear end collision with a honda fit. Please investigate this dangerous vehicle before someone is killed.

I don't feel safe driving the car with this defect, and i can't afford $1325 to replace it. I feel that this is a defect like the previous recall on the airbag.

Takata recall - i received notice telling me not to let anyone sit in the front passenger seat and that fixes won't be available to late summer or fall. What the hell do i do in the meantime. This is an insanely inadequate fix. I need a car that i won't kill a front seat passenger in the net 5 months. I can't afford to rent a replacement vehicle. What do you suggest?

I called the dealer in anaheim on july 19, 2016 to get the repair needed for my honda fit 2008 and was told by marvinthat kerry, manager was going to get back to me and to date i have not had a return call.i also called the dealer in santa ana, calfornia on august 23, 2016and was told that they did not have the part to fix the car. I cant put anybody in the passenger seat because of this problem and it is causing a great inconvenience for me.

2008 honda fit.consumer writes in regards to replacement parts not available to repair passenger airbag inflator recall notice.

Takata recall: we were informed that we were on the recall list in may. I immediately contacted honda for a loaner, as we are a one-car household. They told me to ride in the backseat, despite the fact that we bought/use this car for hauling large items. Fast forward to almost 3 months later--still no word on where our replacement is, and i'm still riding in the backseat. We've tried calling honda multiple times--they fill out a customer service ticket and we never hear back. So basically we are unable to use the car in the manner we intended to when we purchased it, and there's no end in sight. I have never been given the run-around like this, and i cannot fathom why we haven't even been called back. I feel tricked and angry. Please help.

On above date approx 12:45 pm i rear ended a stopped mv at approx 35-40mph. My driver side airbag did not deploy resulting in severe injury. Spinal surgery to follow. I have repeatedly called honda, and they decline meeting my forensic engineer to examine the vehicle as they know it is defective. I have hired a forensic engineer who is available to be at in new jersey on oct 7 2011. It is imperative that an employee of honda witness the examination.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I have neck and back pain and a permanent headache since the accident.i found this information while i made my own research to see if somebody else had experimented this situation. Takata recalli received the nhtsa recall notice 16v-344 yesterday, identifying a very dangerous risk associated with passenger side air bags. I read that the required part will not be available until "late summer/fall of 2016." honda then has the nerve to say "honda suggests that you avoid having a passenger sit in the front passenger's seat until the recall repair has been performed." so i'm not to have full use of my vehicle until months down the road when they feel like making the part available and a dealer feels like installing it? this is completely unacceptable.

Received notice in the mail for takata recall (nhtsa recall #: 16v-344) and power switch replacement recall (nhtsa recall #: 13v-260). Called walnut creek honda service department on 7/22/16 to schedule an appointment, but was denied service despite the potential fatal danger of these safety recalls. Provided vin number to [xxx] from service department four times, who repeatedly told me she cannot find my vin in their system and therefore there is nothing she can do about the recall. I offered to provide other information such as make/year/model to help locate my vehicle, but [xxx] refused to take any information and insisted there is nothing their dealership can do about the recalls. I asked her for recommendations in terms of how to get these potential fatal defects replaced, she provided the same answer ?there is nothing we can do?. Heard similar stories from other honda owners about the walnut creek honda dealership. Seems like walnut creek honda is systematically denying recall services in an attempt to drive car owners away so they will take their problems elsewhere. I filed a complaint with the honda recall center headquarter, who reached out to walnut creek honda and made them agree to perform the required recall work on my vehicle. But nobody should have to jump through so many hoops to get safety recalls taken care of in america in the first place. I can only imagine how helpless other people must feel when they were denied such important recall service, especially if they were not aware of an avenue to escalate matters with the honda recall center or with the nhtsa. My complaint is with walnut creek honda, not honda on the corporate level. I hereby ask the nhtsa to launch an investigation into the misconduct and likely illegal action by walnut creek honda in denying car owners of their rights to safety recall services.thank you.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Air bags did not deploy yet i smelled the smoke from them. Air bags should have deployed due to the damage caused to my vehicle. The vehicle is a total loss. This caused injuries to myself and others. Brakes also failed to properly function.

Takata recall: takata recall. I own a 2008 honda fit.i was notified of thenhtsa recall campaign number: 16v344000regarding the passenger airbag problem. I have called several local honda dealers - no one has the parts! what is honda waiting for, more deaths? i can't put anyone in my passenger seat. It has been over a year - this is taking too long - it is an unreasonable amount of time to wait for repair of a deadly defect.

I was driving about 45 mph on a highway.i hit the car in front of me from behind. The speed of my car at the moment of the accident was about 45 mph as well. My front part was totally smashed, the both of the seat belts got pull out all the way and broke. The car in front of me also had completely smashed rear part of the car. My car was not drivable condition that was towed. The air bags never deployed. I do have neck, back and chest injury and my passenger has the same injury as mind plus knee injury by hitting his knee strongly on a dash. My car is 2008 honda fit, pretty brand new car. It is very scary that the air bags did not deploy.

I was notified in july 2016 of the air bag recall. I called honda at the end of july/august to request that the airbag defect be fixed.i was told parts would be in in 2-3 days.that was 3 months ago. I needed to drive with a full call and called honda corporate to get a rental vehicle so as to not put any passengers in danger.they told me they would turn it around in 2-3 days.it took three weeks ot get a call back - nearly two weeks after my trip was completed.it took three months to get an appointment - honda never called me to inform me despite having called them to ask about it several times.

I own a 2008 honda fit.on 1-7-2010, while traveling at approximately 45 -50 mph, the vehicle in front of mine began to brake.my brakes were applied; however, the vehicle did not seem to be slowing.the brakes were then depressed all the way to the floor, however, the vehicle continued forward until it crashed into the vehicle in front of mine.the abs did not engage during this incident.the air bag did not deploy.the seat belt broke.the insurance company was informed of the above noted failures.the vehicle was repaired, however, no brake problems were detected.in late february, 2010, i got my vehicle back from the repair shop.on 3-4-2010, i was traveling at approximately 45 mph when a vehicle pulled out in front of me causing me to slam the brakes as hard as i could.again, the abs system did not engage and my vehicle continued forward.the only reason i did not crash into the vehicle in front of me is because it cleared my path before impact.during this incident, my seat belt did not "grab" me.i took my vehicle to the honda dealership the next day, explained the incident, and asked that the brake system and seat belt be checked out again thoroughly.the honda service writer told me that they could find nothing wrong with the brakes or the seat belt. Due to my field of employment, i have had extensive training in emergency vehicle operation.i know how the abs system operates and how a vehicle should respond when the brakes are applied in the manner described above.

I bought honda fit, 2008 model a month ago. The traffic stopped and we stopped, but the vehicle in the rear did not stop and smashed the fit from the rear, my vehicle was in the middle, struck by a jeep in the rear and was pushed against a pick up truck in the front. The fit was a total loss with engine pushed back, and bumper and front end smashed.both front air bag failed to deploy even when the vehicle was a total loss with front smashed in.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power after being stopped or making a turn. During cold tempuratures, the failure was more common. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The vin was not provided.

2008 honda fit sport - dash lights are on all the time, not just when headlights are turned on as is typical of every other car i have ever driven. This design has caused me on several occasions to drive for miles at night thinking that my headlights were on. Twice now, a car has pulled out in front of me because they could not see my approaching vehicle in the darkness.had there been an accident i would have been responsible. If the dash lights were linked to the headlights i would immediately be alerted that my headlights were not on at night.i believe that this is a significant and critical safety issue that should be addressed and remedied by honda motor co. I further believe that honda should be required to issue a recall in order to fix this safety related issue.it is only a matter of time before some unfortunate honda fit driver isinvolved in a vehicular accident as a result of what i feel is a safety design fault. I have not notified honda motor co. Of this issue because in past i have made suggestions of improvements for the fit and honda replied with a letter from their legal department informing me that they do not / will not accept any suggestions from anyone who is not an employee of their company.i intend to inform consumer reports of this issue in the hope that they may comment about it for the benefit of their readers, many of whom may have purchased a honda fit based on cr's vehicle reviews / recommendations.

Low beam lights due not function.lots of similar complaints on the computer.called the honda garage where i purchased the car and they said they would charge me to look at it and troubleshoot the problem.

Re: 2008 honda fit sport - a few weeks after having the headlight safety recall for 2007-08 honda fit vehicles from honda service performed on the vehicle we started to notice that the high beams would come on when the right turn signal was activated while the headlights were on. Honda diagnosed as the headlight switch being defective and replaced the headlight switch under warranty. A few weeks later the new headlight switch began displaying the same issue; with the headlights on, using the right turn signal would activate the high beams. Honda has now diagnosed the issue once again as the headlight switch being defective. Vehicle is out of warranty in a few weeks. Have contacted american honda and opened a case on the ongoing issue. Think that their may be a large number of defective replacement headlight/turn signal switches currently being used for service. This will be the third headlight switch the vehicle has had.

All front lamps have failed repeatedly, including low beam headlight.headlamps have failed four times.vehicle has been returned for service under safety recall notice, but lights continue to fail.

Brought car to honda dealership on 6/24/11 for service due to car dying twice that day. Upon arrival car died and had to be jumped to service. Alternator was replaced as well as the battery that day. Then in august car died on the road while driving twice and was taken in for services at honda dealership and immobilizer was stated to be the problem then replaced on 8/24/11.arrive at honda dealership 9/6/11 for tire service and car battery issues stated but technician resolved by adjusting battery connections. On 9/7/11 car dies on bruckner blvd in the bronx, ny while coming off the fdr and hazard lights would not come on. Nyc dot workers had to manually put car in neutral so it could be moved to side of road. Car was towed to bronx honda and battery replaced again. Dealership stated car issues should be resolved but heard stranger rattling sounds from car while backing out the same day it was picked up.

My 2008 manual honda fit sport is stalling whenever i push in the clutch and come to a stop.i have to restart the car around 5 or 6 times before the engine will stop stalling at every stop.the car starts fine, but once started (and if not given time to warm up), it will stall and shut down at every stop.the battery light and oil light both come on when this happens.i have taken it to two certified honda dealers who cannot find anything wrong with my car.this is very frustrating and annoying, as this has been an issues for almost a year.i absolutely love my car and just want it fixed!!i also do not want to have to replace the ignition just because i have to start my car at every stop sign.

On 10/21/2008 seven months after purchasing our 2008 honda fit (new) the battery went dead. We jump started it and took to dealer. They tested it and said it failed the load test. They replaced it with a new one.on 10/20/2010, the car wouldn't start again. We jump started it and drove to dealer. They found nothing wrong.on 01/24/2011, the car wouldn't start. We had it jump started and drove to dealer.they load tested it and it failed. They replaced it with a new one.on 07/08/2013, the car wouldn't start . We had it jump started and took to dealer. They replaced it.the car is driven about 45 mins most days. Every once in a while it will sit for a day, it currently has 72,507 miles.the last occurrence happened after it sat for 4 hours. Nothing was left on. Even though this shouldn't cause a crash, we are reluctant to drive it at night and becoming stranded.we contacted american honda and opened a case. The next step would involve us paying for a diagnostic test. According to searches on the internet, there was a battery problem especially in 2009. Hopefully, this battery will be a good one. I guess we should be happy we don't have the acceleration problem documented on this website.so far, the dealer has been great about replacing the batteries for free under the battery warranty. But we wish they could figure out why the batteries keep failing. Whether they are defective or if the car's electrical system is causing it to happen.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit.the honda fit sport is designed so that the instrument panel illuminates to full brightness as soon as the ignition is turned on--day or night.it cannot be turned off at all.(the dealer and manufacturer confirm this.)the problem is that i, like, i suspect, most drivers, rely on a dark car interior as a prompt to turn on the headlights at night.this week i have driven home from work three out of five nights with no headlights.(on one occasion i was prompted by a kind approaching driver who "blinked" me; on another i actually remembered to turn the lights on. The degree of illumination, incidentally, can be controlled when the headlights are on.the too-bright dashboard is a mild annoyance during the daytime, but that in itself would not merit a complaint.the major issue is this: i chose this car largely because of its excellent safety rating--and i now feel very unsafe when i arrive home and discover that i have just driving six miles on chicago streets with no headlights. The contact purchased the vehicle in january of 2008 and has only been driving the vehicle during the day. The failure mileage was 8,000.

Combination headlight switch was faulty. While low beams are on, toggling the right turn signal activates the high beam. I brought the car to the dealer and performed the headlight switch recall hoping it would get fixed but the recall only addressed the wiring harness. The problem persisted after the recall. I googled it and it is a common problem. Told the dealer about what i found online and was charging me extra for diagnostics and replacing the part. They told me the recall did not include replacing combination switch itself. Then, i bought an oem replacement and replaced it myself which fixed the problem.

When it rains the car leaks from their doors onto the floor and back spare tire area. This car has been recalled for switch board defects which potentially can start a fire in the car. There hasn't been a recall for the doors leaking into the car.

At times car stalls at red light. Car has also quit running at 70 mph. Have had car at honda dealer several times and there are no falt codes. Car is now turning on check engine light. Dealer is no help. Have replaced coils, spark plugs, air filter and v-tec oil pressure switch. Trouble still exist. Honda dealer has no clue and is no help in resolving this issue. I am afraid that someone might die in the car before the trouble is fixed.

Purchased this car as a certified used car in november 2010 from tarrytown honda. Numerous incidents of stopping on the road with this car since june 2011 but this is the latest incident. Previous incident also reported on this website. Also filed complaint with american honda in september 2011 (case#n0122011-09-0701741) and filed for nys lemon law arbitration in 2011 but never received a response. Car dashboard lighting started to go while driving and steering difficult. Car stopped after coming off of brooklyn bridge on 5/10/12 and had to be frantically pushed to the side of the road with help of good samaritan and my passenger because hazard lights wouldn't remain on. Car was towed to honda dealership by aaa. Car completely died on the road in the middle of highway traffic with steering impossible and hazard lights not operable. Dealership states that alternator and battery need replacement - for the second time in one year! i belong to a honda fit online forum where other honda fit owners complain of the same problem. The dealership has not been able to resolve the problem since the first incident in june 2011 and i maybe injured or killed if i continue to drive this car.

The car suddenly lost acceleration on the highway, with the check engine light flashing. The mechanic later found fault with ignition coils. All coils were replaced, but they keep failing one after another, creating potential dangers (e.g., loss of power and crash on the highway).

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, the contact noticed smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. The contact had a fire extinguisher and attempted to keep the fire down until the fire department arrived. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,000....updated 01/20/16 ; updated 4/20/18

I am fortunately not reporting on a failure per seor an accident, i am reporting a potentially deadly flaw in the lighting system of many new vehicles (like for instance my 2008 honda fit). The problem is that anytime the car is started the instrument panel is totally lighted up and stays that way not matter what the actual visibility is. As a consequence it is quite easy to forget to turn on the head lights even at night when leaving a brightly lighted place (like a gas station). This has happened to me a few times: i would tank the car, start the engine, see the lighted instrument panel and drive off into a dark street. Of course you realize after a few seconds that you have no headlights but those 2-3 seconds could be fatal, the only indicator that the head lights are on is a small green icon that it is easily not noticed among the lighted panel. The situation is also dangerous at dusk when the lighted panel again gives the impression that the headlights are on. A few days ago i passed a car driven on a nearby interstate by a woman who had not headlights on and was driving in a situation of advanced darkness; as i passed her car i noticed the glow of her lighted instrument panel. Since one's eyes easily adjust to darkness it is very easy not to notice the problem. I hope nobody has been already victimized by this not so intelligent system.

My car would not pass smog due to the on-board computer not completing the emission system's self-checks. The obdii monitor's (catalyst) was not ready. After driving thousands of miles and it not resetting i had to take it to a mechanic who had to replace both 02 sensors. 3 months later the check engine light is on for the very same 02 sensors.

I have taken this vehicle to several mechanics, auto zone found 9 codes, most of them were regarding misfiring in the engine. When on the highway or sitting still the engine stutters and sometimes stalls. The valves have been adjusted , the spark plugs and ignition coil packs have been replaced and the car has had a tune up. The engine still stalls out in the middle of the highway. I feel this is an unsafe vehicle, honda should recall and fix this problem.

Check engine sign all the time. Seat belt not release automatically, whine drive on the rain and snow not see clearly wiper doesn't work good. Some time tpms sign show up

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled at start up and the rpms decreased. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer a diagnostic testing but they were unable to locate a failure code; however, the dealer replaced the spark plugs, the air filter, and the idle system was reset.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 116,000. The current mileage was 117,000.

1) vehicle engine has to warm up for several moments if stationery for longer than a few hours (regardless of outdoor temperature); 2) transmission slipping or pistons not firing while in operation-whether in town or highway; 3) if vehicle idles, engine shuts off and upon restart, has to reach 2000 rpms to begin be able to put it into drive.vehicle has been taken in numerous times to multiple honda service stations and independent mechanics with no positive resolution.work done included: crank sensor, coil packs replaced, starter replaced, fluids flushed, valves adjusted.codes pulled have not pinpointed the issue nor does any mechanic have an answer.online forum searches appear to have a number of other owners with all model years of honda fits with same/similar issues.

The approximate mileage at the time of failure was 100,000.

Car kept stalling when i would turn on the engine and also while driving on the street it kept bucking and refused to accelerate. Anyway, got tune up 09172014, cost $170.00. Plus an oil change. Problem still occurring? had diagnosis completed 12/26/2014 however, they couldn't find the reason for the car to die while turning it on. Car is now 145k miles. Recommended i replace the battery. Now after paying the $265.00 for battery and diag, they say take it to the dealer may have something to do with engine. Every time i turn on the car i have to wait for the engine to warm up so it won't die...engine does not make noise, battery is good and electrical is good so idk what's going on. Going to take it into dealership again but feels it's a waste because they probably won't find anything and will make me do costly repairs that won't fix anything. Honda, please find out what's going on. There's obviously enough complaints about this and little action to resolve. I hate the state of panic i get into every time it stalls on me while i'm moving.

My 2008 honda fit (manual transmission) suddenly felt like the engine was bucking or hesitating when shifting gears. This was noticeable when shifting into 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th gear. It felt as if i needed to downshift even though i was shifting into the correct gear. ( i have been driving manual transmissions for more than 30 years). I took the car to the honda service department and after test driving the car was told they did not notice the problem and to come back if the check engine light came on. A week or two later (12/9/14) when in massachusetts for business, the bucking/hesitation was so bad that i was uncertain what gear i should be in when driving up a steep road. I made a service appointment for the coming saturday (12/13/14) when i would be back in connecticut, even though the check engine light was not on. The service department told me the coil assembly for one of the cylinders needed to be replaced which they did on monday (12/15/14). I have not experienced a problem for the past four days. The total repair cost was nearly $257.60 with the coil assembly costing $135. I checked online to see what the cost for the part was and found it for $81 at brenardi auto parts which sells genuine honda parts and from whom i have previously purchased parts. I emailed the honda service department asking to be refunded $50 as they over-price on parts. Waiting to hear back from them. My question/concern; should this coil assembly have failed? what is the expected life of this part?thank you.

Guessing the date but i know it happened around 65k miles when i took it into dealership to get it check. Car kept stalling when i would turn on the engine and also while driving on freeway it kept bucking and refused to accelerate. Anyway, got the engine fixed, however, they couldn't find the reason for the car to die while turning it on. Car is now 94k miles. Every time i turn on the car i have to wait for the engine to warm up so it won't die...now it dies regardless and stalls while i'm driving. Had mechanic friend check it and found nothing. Engine does not make noise, battery is good and electrical is good so idk what's going on. Going to take it into dealership again but feels it's a waste because they probably won't find anything and will make me do costly repairs that won't fix anything. Car stopped dead (has happened 10-12 times).coasted to side of road.turned off ignition.turned it back on and car started immediately.no problem at 35 mph on back country road.big problem if i were passing on 2 lane road.internet check shows others have had same problem with 2008 honda fit.

The car died whenever we come to a stop, break to turn, or slow down for red light within the first two miles of being driven on any given day. The problem is re-current and occurs with greater intensity at low temperatures.we have taken the car to the honda dealership, but it has been unable to identify or fix the problem.a quick internet search has revealed dozens of similar complains and inability of honda dealerships to pin point and fix the probelm.we called honda customer service, but they are dismissive of the online complaints.the car is outside warranty and we already spent several thousand dollars on suggested fixes.

My 2008 honda fit stalls every time i put the clutch in for the first 4-6 minutes.when i put the clutch in to stop it stalls as soon as i engage clutch.this happens at slow speeds as well as faster speeds for the first several minutes.i have had spark plugs replaces, valve timing fixed, new battery, gas tank cleaner run through, fluids changed.nothing has mede it any different.it won't sustain idle initially.stalls in turns if clutch put in or too low of speed for second in a corner. It has been happening for about 2 years.at about 150000

2008 honda fit engine stalls when cold. Car will start, but needs to sit until engine is warm before it can be driven. If the car is put in any gear before the engine is warm it will stall. When the car is first started it sounds like the engine is idling too low. When you put the car in gear, it idles even lower until it stalls. No issues with the car stalling once the engine is warm. This started happening around 100000 miles about one year ago. At first it only happened once in a while. One year later (about 120000 miles) it happens every time the car is started. All recommended maintenance has been done on time. Has been brought to 2 different mechanics who have looked at the engine, transmission, and fuel tank/pump. No one can seem to figure out what is causing the issue. Looking online, it seems this is an extremely common issue with no solution. A recall was issued on 2009-2010 honda fits to fix a similar issue. A recall needs to be looked at for the 2008 model.

My 2008 honda fit sport began having a "surging" issue from the 2nd week after i bought it new in 2008.i would tap the brakes to slow down and the engine would surge.hitting the brakes a second time usually stopped it but throwing it into neutral helped too.i reported it frequently to the honda dealer and they could not find the problem and said they had never heard of it.it continued for 4 years, and then seemed to stop for the next two years.this past march, it started again, and i was able to stop the car before an accident occurred.then it happened while i was coming down the hill i live on.the car was in 2nd gear (using the shifter), and i tapped the brakes to slow a bit.the engine began accelerating and going faster.the brakes did no good; neither did the emergency brake; finally, the brakes gave out and my foot was flat on the floor.i finally put it into park and it slowed down to a stop.i had it towed to the dealer and they found no problem, even though i put it into park while moving, nor could they find any reason for the acceleration.american honda is no help either.they did buy the car back, but have sold it as a used car, and i fear for the person who purchased it.i'm sure they did not look into the problem further.on your website, i found seven (7) similar reports for the 2008 fit and five (5) more for the 2009.owners have reported this problem on edmunds.com for several years, yet the honda sales manager did not want to look at the printout i gave him.here are the nhtsa id#s that report a similar problem: 10523098, 1049187, 10425811, 10344231, 10323002, 10317179, 10282552, 10266390, 10368077, 10329557, 10308988, 10280593.please investigate this matter - it is very serious.

When 2008 honda fit is started it will stall till engine is warm up sufficiently, depending on the temperature dictates how long that takes. If a person takes off before car is warmed completely up when coming to a stop it will stall and if your in a intersection when it stalls itis really dangerous.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. Rough idling and stalling. Tried lots of things to fix: tune up, replaced spark plugs, fuel injectors cleaned, replaced clutch, valve adjustment -- nothing fixed it. 2008 honda fit (automatic) stalls when vehicle is in "drive" when driving at a slow/decreased speed (parking into a parking spot or starting to accellerate from a stop) or when stopped at a stop sign or stop light. There are no "service indicator lights on". This stall in the engine occurs regardless if vehicle is cold or warmed up. Honda dealership suggested replacing the transmission fluid. Cost $210.00. Paid for service to be preformed at honda dealership. My car stalled again the next day. I hesitate to drive in traffic because stall is intermittent and do not want to cause a vehicle collision. Vehicles driving behind me have no idea when vehicle is going to stall instead of moving. The same recurring problem has been happening for about a year or so. In the morning when i start my car, especially worse in the winter, my car will stall out 2 to 3 times just while warming up. When the engine is warm and i start to drive it stalls out in the road at least 1 or 2 more times. I have had the honda dealer i bought my car from as well as my mechanic look at it and have not been able to diagnose the problem for about a year now. I have had valves and sensors changed as well as battery and had fuel injectors clean. It is incredibly unsafe to drive in these conditions especially with it stalling out in the middle of busy intersections. Something must be done.

I have a 2008 fit. I haven't crashed (yet) but it's certainly very disconcerting. It usually occurs at very low speed, when i step on the brake the engine surges, but only occasionally. The first time it happened i thought maybe i'd accidentally stepped on the accelerator, but since i've never done that before, i thought it was a bit weird that i'd do something like that. It's happened 3 more times since then, and each time i've verified that my foot is on the brake peddle. I have to really mash down on the brake to stop the car. It has happened both when going straight and when turning, so i don't think that has anything to do with it, and road conditions have always been dry.i will be taking it to my honda dealer next week, but since it's not something that happens every time, i expect that it will not occur during the test drive. I hope honda america will take this seriously and correct the problem before someone gets hurt, as could very easily happen if it occurs when there's a pedestrian or bicyclist near the front of the car.

When driving vehicle, engine lags at about 50 mph. Also when engine is still cold and transmission is in drive it stalls, it does it repeatedly until it reaches normal operating temperature. It seems something is wrong with fuel distribution, which may be very dangerous.

Air conditioning failed. Took vehicle to honda dealer and was informed that damage to condenser was caused by "road debris" and is not covered under the warranty. $800+ to repair, with only 22,568 miles on the vehicle.

To whom it may concern:i tried talking to honda where i got the car... And they refuse to pay for any damages to my car caused by their faulty jack.what happened:i had a flat tire. I went to fix it using the jack included with the car/spare tire. I used the specified lift points (even checked my owners manual 3 times). I've taken automotive engineering classes at college and even a car care class in high school- as i'm no stranger to working on cars. The jack bent sideways and completely collapsed- while i was in the process of taking off the tire. Luckily i only got the tire part of the way off- and the caliper landed on the inside of the rim (of my flat tire) and not my foot. I ended up bruised and was thankful that my foot wasn't injured. However, i was frustrated that a jack that is specifically made by honda for my car was not safe to use and that honda will not take responsibility for their faulty and unsafe work. In talking with honda- they said that i must have lifted it wrong or not on the right type of surface. I talked with [xxx] (sales manager at schlossmann's honda city) and he told me honda is unwilling to fix my car nor replace the damaged rim (let alone even consider that their jack is faulty and this may happen to someone else). His contact info: [xxx]; fax: [xxx]; email: [xxx]my car is a 2008 honda fit. Overall i'm happy with the car- just not the faulty and dangerous (even life threatening) created by their inferior jack. I know that my car is widely popular- especially in southeastern wisconsin- i just don't want this happening to anyone else.

The low beam headlights on my 2008 honda fit suddenly stopped working. Upon starting the car, the low beam headlights do not turn on though the high beams remain intact. This means that i have no headlights unless i drive with my high beams, which is distracting to other drivers and unsafe. I have not yet brought the car to the dealer to be fixed as this problem began very recently.

Takata recall :my 2008 honda fitwas traveling at 15 mph and went into a police k-9 unit 'elvis'.the air bag virulently exploded on my jaw and caused my teeth to bit my tongue. The policeman mistook the injury for a seizure and i lost my license indefinitely.i was take to the hospital against my will and given 10,000 dollars in services i didn't want or need due to the air bag.honda and takata and nhtsaneed to come clean and protect the public from this dangerous defect.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. While driving 55 mph, the high beam lamps became inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 179,000.

All front lamps have failed repeatedly, including low beam headlight.headlamps have failed four times.vehicle has been returned for service under safety recall notice, but lights continue to fail.

Both low beam headlights and driving/fog lights stopped working. Problem was intermittent. Hi-beams continued to work. Eventually replaced light bulb and problem went away for several weeks. Problem has recurred, again with both low beam and fog lights not working occasionally. Now suspect a switch problem.

Due to this airbag defectiveness my car got damaged and affected badly

Driver side headlight no longer works in low beam mode. Headlight was changed, light works in high beam mode.

At 5am while headed to work, i noticed the headlights were not on, despite the switch being in the on position. There was a recall previously for the exact same issue. It appears the fix was only temporary, as the exact same issue has popped up again. Low-beams do not work, but hi-beams and foglights work.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that while driving, the low-beam headlight and fog lamps became inoperable without warning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and diagnosed with a defective connector switch that needed to be replaced. Additionally, the connector was melted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated the failure was similar to nhtsa campaign number: 10v624000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Low beam lights due not function.lots of similar complaints on the computer.called the honda garage where i purchased the car and they said they would charge me to look at it and troubleshoot the problem.

Low beam lights doesn't turn on or turns off by itself

Last year our driver side door lock suddenly stopped working - could not insert the key.there was nothing jammed or stuck inside.today the same thing happened with the passenger side door luck - we can't insert the key.now the only door that works is the trunk.

Driver side door lock cylinder has failed.honda dealer states it'll be over $300 to fix.search of the web shows it's a known issue around 100k miles for honda fits.

A week before bringing in the vehicle to the dealer for the recall inspection the drive shaft broke while backing out of the garage.

On 2/17/21 the driver side axle broke and right side axle rusted. I had my vehicle towed to the honda dealership to have vehicle fixed. They installed aftermarket axles and when the factory honda axles become available, they said they would contact me to come back and they would switch the parts out for free.i then picked up my car on 2/19/21. On 3/7/21 (after only putting about 400 miles on it) the transmission started skipping gears. Everytime i came to a complete stop and then proceeded to go again, it would skip out of 1st gear and into 3rd.also, every time my speedometer went above 60, the rpms would get higher than normal and fluctuate. When i tried to put the car into sport mode, it did not come on either. On 3/8/21 i immediately called my honda dealership and they said that i would need to bring the vehicle in for them to look at it. I asked them to tow it, as i did not want to drive it, and possibly damage it more. They agreed to have it towed to their dealership on 3/8/21. After they looked at it that same day, they told me that nothing was wrong and that the car did not have any issues. I told them to drive it again and try to use the sport mode as well because it was not working on 3/7/21. On 3/9/21, they said that when they drove the car, it did not skip gears and the sport mode was working. I believe that there is now damage to the transmission and the service tech is just trying to cover up his mistake and make me pay for the tow bill. Please see attached paper work from the dealership and note that they did not even check my transmission fluid to when they initially did the work to replace the axles. I know that when you replace drive axles, you will always need to check and add transmission fluid, because when you remove the old drive axles, transmission fluid does leak out and fluid will always need to be replenished when doing this type of work.

When driving vehicle, engine lags at about 50 mph. Also when engine is still cold and transmission is in drive it stalls, it does it repeatedly until it reaches normal operating temperature. It seems something is wrong with fuel distribution, which may be very dangerous.

I own a 2008 honda fit with 105,000 miles on it. Upon attempting to accelerate from a stop sign going left, there was a bang and grinding from the engine area. Vehicle then began rolling backwards despite being in drive with the gas depressed. After a tow to a local dealer, it was diagnosed as a driver-side cv axle failure. When i asked the dealer if this is something that could have been caught and to inspect the passenger side , they advised there is no external warning by visual inspection since the area prone to failure is covered by a rubber boot. Dealer then mentioned that she had noticed fits and older acords having this problem.

Right side drive shaft of front wheel drive vehicle failed under acceleration causing vehicle to stop in intersection.examination of failed drive shaft shows classic failure under torsion.the drive shaft was compromised by severe corrosion that reduced the diameter of the drive by approximately half the original diameter.severe corrosion is located directly under the rubber vibration damper installed on the drive shaft that trapped water and salt greatly accelerating corrosion.portions of the shaft not covered by the rubber vibration damper were not affected by corrosion allowing a direct comparison to the original diameter.currently, i am driving a vehicle with a corroded left drive shaft about to fail at any time.

I was casual driving when the car began to not respond to the amount of acceleration given.first gear was also having a problem engaging then the rest of the gears began to follow.i was about to visit my family for the weekend when i was about to merge into traffic my car didn't respond and continuously revved in high rpms.i was moving 30 on a 65. I only have roughly 30000 miles and had bought this new 4 years ago, almost to date.i've driven manual all life and never had this problem.this can be a potential danger as tractor trailers and bigger cars could easily have crushed me as i merged but luckily i had driven onto the shoulder.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that while turning into a parking lot approaching a parking space without warning the vehicle accelerated forward. The contact slammed on the brake pedal, however the vehicle failed to stop. The contact depressed the brake pedal again and the vehicle came to a complete stop. The contact shifted the vehicle gear into park. The vehicle has not been diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however no further assistance was taken and the manufacturer informed the contact that the warranties had expired, and to contact nhtsa to log a complaint. No dealer was contacted. The contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 20v770000 (power train) as a possible solution to the failure however, the vin was not included. The failure was approximately 106,340.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v770000 (power train) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called fuoco honda (748 n 1st st, grand junction, co 81501, (970) 628-0454) where it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

Car had exhibited issues with shifter cable in the past, but no dealership had seen or indicated any issues. Car would not go into park, car then would not go into reverse and finally, when the cable snapped, the car would not leave neutral, making the car completely unusable. Had this occurred whilst driving, it would have been a serious health and safety concern.

2008 honda fit sport, 5-speed manual transmission. Transmission began binding (resistance, audible click from shift linkage) shifting into 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear at approx 60k miles (just prior to 2nd fluid change). Initially resolved problem. Recurring at 80k miles. Transmission fluid changed, clutch fluid changed/bled (no change), clutch height and engagement adjusted (slight improvement), and still not fully resolved. At this point it is likely a prematurely worn clutch, syncromesh issue, or possibly shift linkage. Best guess is a little of both. Fitfreak.net is full of similar transmission issues and honda does not have a reputation for building reliable transmissions. I wish honda would address their engineering deficiencies in this area or at least provide out of warranty coverage to owners. Will follow up with dealer, but expecting no cooperation. Maintenance background: professional a&p mechanic, all services performed according to honda's schedule, only genuine honda fluids used. Vehicle is completely original except for front brake rotors/pads. No accidents, no other problems with car.

The contact owned a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated while driving 20mph the vehicle lost all motor and electrical power; which resulted in the vehicle rolling back down the hill it was on and crashing into a fence. No airbags deployed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a local police lot and a report was filed. There were no physical injuries from the occupants of the vehicle. The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with, nhtsa campaign number: 20v770000 (power train). The manufacturer was informed of failure and was currently awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

Very high potential for collisions.there is a honda recall for the 2009 and 2010 honda fit for this same problem. When i backed out of my daughter's driveway, i tried to shift the automatic transmission from park to reverse.it clicked but would not go in reverse as i lifted my foot from the brake. It rolled forward slightly.i put it back in park again and decided to try once more. There was no floor mat on the floor. There were no cars coming at this point.i shifted into reverse and removed my foot slowly from the brake.the car flew into the street with rapid acceleration and i couldn't brake for an oncoming car, which i crashed into.the fits left tail light and bumper were hit at such an angle and impact that my car spun forward and the transmission moved into drive.the air bag did not deploy.the brakes would not stop the car and it went zooming across my daughter's lawn, almost hitting a huge palm tree and a utility pole.it then spun around and finally stopped before it almost crashed into my daughter's house where my grandson was watching behind the window.the occupants of the other car in the crash said they had never seen anything like this and were willing to testify to that fact.the police report lists mechanical failure as the cause.the honda fit was towed to an auto body shop and repaired at a cost of $4400. The repair people would not test drive it because they were afraid to.they demanded that the car be towed to the honda dealer for inspection.the tow truck driver experienced the rapid acceleration problem too as he was moving the car to the tow truck.he had to remove the key.the honda dealer said they inspected the car and could find nothing wrong.i won't drive that car again and traded it in at honda.they said the car was going to auction.whoever buys that car could have a major problem.

The left side drive axle broke while pulling out of our driveway.

Check engine light came on, transmission "d" light on, shifting roughly. The car was in motion on city streets when this happened. Diagnostic codes run:p0756 and p0847.diagnostics run per honda service news article "hard or delayed shifting with a/t dtcs p0756 and p0847"transmission fluid was drained. It showed that it did have debris in the fluid. That means, according to honda, that the transmission must be replaced.the car is unsafe to drive in this condition as the transmission could fail at any time. Since this is a known defect, reported by honda, honda should have extended the power train warranty past the original 60,000 miles to cover this. (mine had 75,000 miles at the time this happened.)i contacted the local honda dealership and was told they are not authorized to offer any kind of discount on the replacement of the transmission.i called honda's corporate office and was told that there is no official recall or extension of warranty, but some cost reduction is offered in cases where:1.the customer is a repeat customer who has owned multiple hondas2.the car was purchased at a dealership3.the customer has spent enough money at the dealership (for service etc) to consider them a good honda customer.i did not fit this criteria. The guy at the corporate office said that i could have the car towed to the dealer, have the diagnostics run again, at my expense, and ask for a discount, but because i do not meet the 3 criteria above, i might not receive enough of a discount to even cover the extra cost of taking it to the dealership to have the diagnostics run a second time.he also told me that if honda were to extend the warranty or do a recall in the future, it would apply retroactively to my car, whether i have the work done at the dealer or at another mechanic. (i'm having the work done at another mechanic.)

Passenger side axle broke due to rust caused by a rubber vibration dampener that is installed. The rubber piece traps water inside, which just sits around the metal of the axle shaft and causes it to rust through. In my case it broke after i stopped, then as i tried to accelerate from the stop i heard the part give way. Luckily i was at low/zero speed in a parking lot, instead of a congested highway. In the pictures you can see very little clean metal, which indicates this has been rusting away over time.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at a low rate of speed, he heard an abnormal, booming noise emit from the engine without warning. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who repaired the left drive shaft. A week later, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v770000(power train) which was linked directly to the initial failure. The contact called the manufacturer and the manufacturer instructed the contact to take the vehicle to the honda superstore of joliet(3225 plainfield rd, joliet, il 60431) to inspect the vehicle and verify the repair. Upon inspection, the mechanic discovered severe corrosion on the right side drive shaft and they deemed the vehicle unsafe to drive. The contact was given a loaner vehicle to have until the vehicle was repaired. The contact's husband then went to the dealer for an update and was informed that parts were not yet available. The contact was instructed to return the loaner vehicle despite the recall not being serviced.the contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was 80,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available. Jo

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that while driving, the axle broke on two occasions without warning. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v770000 (power train) however, the part to do the recall was unavailable. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where the axle was replaced however the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the same local dealer where diagnosed the transmission was bent and damaged. The manufacturer was notified however no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 108,000.

My clutch went out twice in under 17,000 miles.driven a manual transmission for about 20 years.first clutch went at 6011 miles (january 30, 2008).clutch would not engage on a busy highway in la.i was lucky that i did not have any vehicles behind me.honda replaced the clutch, the flywheel, the pressure plate, and both bearings under the heading of "goodwill".they claimed it was user wear.at 6000 miles?the service consultant said that it was the worst worn clutch he had ever seen... It was "blue".clutch began slipping again at 17,800 miles.took it into the dealership and they again blamed me for the wear.could not tell me why it was my fault.the clutch disc showed uneven wear.when i asked if they inspected the tires to show that the car was "operated properly" they said that the use of the clutch did not effect the tires.was told by the service manager that he sent pictures in to a honda rep.when i asked to see the pictures 7 days later i was sent one partial image of my clutch, which showed obvious unusual wear.the image was time-stamped 6 days after i was told the photo(s) of the car were inspected by an american honda rep.honda denies any responsibility on their faulty machine even after a case manager said it was "unlikely" my fault, but "possible".i could grow a third arm from my forehead... It is "possible" but "unlikely".honda wants me to pay for the repairs and tear down costs.i do not merely want the car repaired.this is not an issue of money.if i am on the highway and a third clutch goes again, with my two kids in the car, injury or even death is possible.after 14 days of discussion and no car, or one even supplied, american honda agreed to reopen the case after notice of arbitration and a potential lawsuit.still waiting for an answer.

Check engine sign all the time. Seat belt not release automatically, whine drive on the rain and snow not see clearly wiper doesn't work good. Some time tpms sign show up

Noticed damp/wet carpet under rubber floor mats on nov 15th 2011,noted a moldy smell.cleaned car dried out carpet.noticed rear carpet very wet after rainy period dec 21 2011.pulled up carpet, water all over top hump were seat brackets attach to car frame, carpet was soaked all way to front seats.i feel this may be a structural issue and safety issue.over on miles for warranty to cover.schedule with local dealership.

2008 honda fit base model: floor of back seat and the cargo area behind back seat is wet, and is now growing mold. I have no idea how so much moisture/water is getting into the carpet. I am also concerned that the floors will rust as well. Seriously, honda step up and issue a recall and fix this issue!! i will be filing a complaint with the ag's office!

Unsafe design -recall requesti am the owner of a 2008 honda fit with standard transmission.the ten-minute test drive did not alert me to the insufficient legroom that makes me apply both the brake and the gas at the same time.the explanation follows.long drives of over twenty minutes cause my leg to cramp and i need to shift my right heel to the right.that puts my heel directly behind the gas pedal instead of the normal position directly behind the brake pedal.when the toe of the foot moves to the brake pedal, the sole of the foot also covers the edge of the gas pedal and both pedals are pushed at the same time.the brake system is also partly at fault since after the initial application the brake continues to slowly sink to the floor instead of holding the pedal height.this results in even more gas being applied. Honda has inspected the brakes and has indicated they are working normally.i have driven standard shift cars many years including, chevy, plymouth, pontiac, two toyotas, two vws, the 1991 honda, and now this fit.there are many hundred-thousand miles logged in these cars.i replaced my 1991 honda dx with the fit.the cars are essentially the same size length and width and the 1991 honda was a comfortable car.you would think the fit would be as well proportioned.i have checked other cars of the same size and style with the thought of trading.i have found the nissan versa, toyota scion xd, and toyota yaris to have the same or worse legroom as the fit.i am 70 inches tall with a pant inseam of 31 inches.my guess is that anyone with an inseam of more than 29 would have the same problem.recall the honda fit to force the company to adjust the seat so that it will move farther back from the gas pedal and/or higher.there is plenty of room in the car for that to happen.honda added another few inches to the 2009 fit but kept the same front seat clearance dimensions. Establish design rules to stop this design flaw.

Headrest failed during normal driving.the headrest tips my head so far forward my chin is practically on my chest.there is no way to adjust or replace it, i have talked to the dealer and parts department.my only solution is to put the headrest onbackward, which means i have no neck protection in a crash.

2008 honda fit sport.consumer writes in regards to design defect in seat adjustment lever.the consumer stated when she attempted to the exit the vehicle, her pants leg became hooked on the seat adjustment lever located just below the cushion on the lower left hand corner of the driver's seat. Being unaware of her pants leg being caught, when she attempted to exit she fell to the ground. The force of her fall and pants being caught, caused the seat to immediately move completely in the reverse position. She hit the ground face first to the pavement, also catching herself with her hands. Her glasses flew off and were scratched, her lip was busted on the inside and bleeding and both of her hands were dirty and burning from the asphalt.she lost a small amount of skin on her left knee and also skinned he left elbow to the size of a dime.as time went by, within an hour her left hand was hurting more and more and it began to swell.she also suffered injuries to her chest area.

The upper rear panel (where there is a groove where the frame comes together and you could attach a roof rack) on the driver's side separated a little and water came into the car. It soaked the trunk and floor behind the drivers seat.the water also damaged the abs sensors.i had to replace the abs sensors and sort of caulk the gap between the panels.i found out about the problem when my abs light on my dash went on.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that while driving, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to correspond due to the anti lock brake functioning. The contact mentioned that the vehicle had stopped independently after three miles. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Parking on a side street behind another car applying brake, and woosh! car took off in what i've later learned was an "unintended acceleration," running into the car in front and smushing in the hood of my car. I thought i had let my foot slip or had skid on some ice, but later similar incidences made me wonder. This last time (may 30, 2013), again was parking car and applying break in a parking lot (full of lawyers' cars!) and as i approached the space, car very quickly sped up and i nearly crashed into a light pole and/or beautiful new (expensive) car to my right. I'm sure anyone witnessing this would see a driver slowing down and then car jerking amazingly forward, like a horse at the beginning of a race. I was so very lucky in that i was able to steer racing car into parking spot and make an abrupt stop (i don't know how). Quite scary!i looked up what could be the cause of this phenomenon and discovered this as an unacknowledged "known issue" with supposedly no known fix. Dangerous!

Air bags did not deploy yet i smelled the smoke from them. Air bags should have deployed due to the damage caused to my vehicle. The vehicle is a total loss. This caused injuries to myself and others. Brakes also failed to properly function.

The contact owned a 2008 honda fit. While driving 70 mph with the cruise control activated, a tractor trailer pulled in front of the vehicle. The brake pedal was depressed to disengage the cruise control; however, the vehicle accelerated instead. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed a second time and the vehicle accelerated again. The vehicle crashed through several bushes in the median of the highway and came to a stop on the opposite side of the highway towards oncoming traffic. The contact was not injured and a police report was not filed. The contact stated that the shift lever was in the park position; however, the cruise control indicator was still illuminated and the engine revved independently. The vehicle was turned off and towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired and the insurance company deemed the vehicle destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000...updated 06/06/17 updated 9/28/18

Noticed the braking after initially starting the vehicle and driving has a spongy response with the travel of the brake going to the floor. This happens periodically. I thought it was because of the car not being used often, but this has occurred after the car has been sitting after only a short while.

My 2008 honda fit sometimes experiences loss of braking power when it has been started after sitting for many hours.this behavior is not always present, but is intermittent, perhaps occurring about 50% of the time.there is a very large loss of braking power, such that the car will roll to a stop, even if i apply strong pressure to the pedal or if i pump the brakes.the brake pedal can be depressed only a very short amount of travel when this behavior occurs, and the pedal does not go to the floor.if i wait with the engine running and in "park" for several minutes, then the problem goes away, and the brakes work normally.i had bought this car used in spring of 2011 from its first owner, and experienced this problem for the first time in approximately july 2012.since that time, the problem has become more common.

My vehicle's abs system appears to be extremely sensitive and activates needlessly during light braking even on dry pavement.it can to be triggered consistently by lightly applying the brakes on uneven terrain, such as cracks in the road, small potholes or bumps.the brake pedal pulses for a short time, during which braking is ineffective and the vehicle continues to move forward for several feet.i drive several other vehicles on a regular basis, none of which exhibit this problem.a service rep at honda of bloomfield, located in bloomfield hills, mi, characterized the condition as normal.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit.while applying pressure to the brakes, the contact noticed that the vehicle would not decrease in speed, which caused her to hit another vehicle. The contact sustained bruises to the leg. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was awaiting the results of an inspection. The contact did not inform the manufacturer. The current and failure mileages were 37,000.

Anti-lock system activates inappropriately.driving over rough pavement, bumps etc seems to activate anti-lock system.brakes become squishy, and less effective during these incidences.this problem happens routinely.

I was driving home going about 50 mph, when traffic slammed on their brakes.i was following about 3 car lengths behind the person in front of me, and as soon as they slammed on their brakes i slammed on mine. When slamming on my brakes, the abs didn't even come on because my brakes weren't working like they were supposed to.my brakes felt spongy, and should have stopped me with room to spare, but they didn't even come close.

Brake concerns: i have a 2008 honda fit that intermittently has a hard brake pedal and often will not stop with 2 feet on the brake pedal. It feels to me like the master cylinder or brake booster linkage is somehow binding, this usually occurs after driving on rough roads and making a right turn, my local dealer will take it for a 5 minute drive and give it back to me stating "no problem found" even after several complaints. I feel this car is unsafe to drive. Honda and it's dealers don't seem concerned about brake problems but i'm afraid to drive this car.

Honda fit 2008 brakes failure to stop during braking. Noise during braking grinding / loosening of brake pads when braking. Went to honda for brake inspection per my non-honda mechanic, to replace calipers. Honda technician says there is nothing wrong, that i just needed new brake pads. First time replacing them since i bought the car. Mileage was at 38,386. Paid for new pads. Date was dec. 29, 2011. Today first oil change and brake check since pads were change, wearing of pads are still uneven and brake noises still prevalent, even at from 20 mile per hour brakingto stop.

On several occasions when applying the brakes in my 2008 honda fit, they failed to engage.i have been lucky enough to avoid accidents, but i'm quite concerned and have noticed other such concerns posted on the web.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact was drivingapproximately between 25-30 mph, approaching a traffic stopsignal. Suddenly, the brake pedal traveled to the floor whenpressure was applied. The vehicle would stop with a brief delay.the failure occurred ten to twelve times on different occasions.however, the problem would not occur in cold weather temperatures. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician was unable to locate a problem. The failure persisted. The contact planned to have the vehicle diagnosed for a second time. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

At start-up there seems to be enough brake booster vacuum for one braking; the next time i hit the brakes it goes to the floor as if there is no power brake assist. There are brakes there, but it takes a huge amount of force and if you're not expecting itwould be easy to hit something. It happens 50% of the time i start the vehicle (after sitting 8+ hours). The issue is worse when in reverse (lower gear and thus more power from the engine?).the second dealer i went to said this is a known issue with no known repair. While at the dealership, a civic owner said she has the same problem and the dealers told her that it is "normal". The service manager told me to let the car warm up for 2-minutes before driving.a year ago, i had 32,000 miles when this first occurred 20% of the time;now i have 76,000 miles and it occurs 50% of the time.i can understand that some people with similar complaints may think the brakes are not working at all, when you have to push extremely hard to get them to work (as when your brake booster fails).it is difficult for me to stop even though i'm 6'7", 200 pounds, very strong and i'm a heavy equipment operator so i'm prepared for things to go wrong.

After attempting to make an emergency stop on a city street on a sunny day with about 2.5 car lengths between my fit and an accord. The vehicle's abs system overreacted and caused the vehicle to become very choppy, dramatically increasing the distance it took to stop. This caused my vehicle to rear end the accord. In retrospect, had i not applied 100% brake force and did not trigger the abs, i may have been able to stop the vehicle just short of rear ending the other vehicle. I have experienced similar situations under various road and weather conditions with this vehicle, where the abs activates prematurely and remains active, even when there should be sufficient grip. Even light pressure on thebrake pedal while going over some pot holes and up onto drive ways triggers the abs system. I never paid much attention to this issue because i always leave enough space between myself and other vehicles, but after doing some online research after my accident, it has become apparent to me that i am not the only individual experience abs problems with this vehicle. Nor am i the only individual who has reported this issue to the nhtsa. As a note, i have driven various small and large vehicles - with and without abs - and they have never been reacted so poorly in an emergency/panic situation. It should be noted that these abs problems occurred with the factory dunlop tires as my recent accident with performance (grippy) firestone firehawk wide oval indy 500 tires (with >50 tread). I have not gotten the estimate for the damage to my vehicle, but the front bumper is damaged as well as the hood - not sure if there is any frame damage. No airbags were deployed, no occupants were harmed. I will also reach out to honda america.please look into this issue. Thank you.

There is something seriously wrong with the brakes. The brakes lack feel and are "spongy." this causes great difficulty during braking. At high speeds, the brakes seem to function properly, but at low speeds it does not. When i press the brake pedal, instead of braking, the brake pedal will drop. The car continues to move as if the brake pedal is not being pressed down. The creates a situation where the last few seconds, i must hit the brakes even harder for the vehicle to begin stopping. This creates a hazard for vehicles both in front and in back of me. There is very little control in the braking system. From the forums, it appears there are many other honda fit owners with the similar problem. Some have gotten into accidents due to this failure, while others have been more lucky. This is certainly a accident waiting to happen.i have taken my car to the honda dealership, whom have denied anything being wrong. I urge you to investigate this matter before another person is killed/ injured due to this failure.

Power steering suddenly turned off.steering became extremely heavy.this has happened 3 times since initial incident and now twice in the past two days (2/9/2011 and 2/10/2011).all times it has happened driving around 30-40 mph within the first 10 minutes of driving.stopping, turning off and on the ignition has reset the power steering in all cases.honda dealer service department was not able to find a solution and last two incidents happened since taking car to the shop.

I started my car and the steering wheel would not move at all. When i would try and turn the steering wheel the wheel indicator light would flash.i turned the engine off and restarted it and it did not fix the problem. I unplugged the battery to reset the electric systems and it still did not fix the problem. At the moment the car is undrivable due to this safety issue.

Orange light comes on and freezes the power steering. Vehicle is very difficult to steer. This is especially bad when there is a change in the weather, especially a change from warm to cold. Once the engine is warmed up, i can usually get the wheel to loosen and the power steering to engage if i turn it off and back on. If it's a hot day and i crank up the ac the wheel will often jerk (even at high speeds) i recommend looking into this.

My husband and i own a 2008 honda fit.since about october of last year, our power steering has been randomly going out on us (the eps light comes on and we can't turn the wheel).this most frequently occurs while we're on the interstate driving at 65mph - however it did happen once on a small street (at about 30mph) and another time in a parking lot while the vehicle was not being moved.luckily, my husband and i were able to slowly and safely pull over.we have taken the car to the dealership twice (the car is currently there).an on board computer was replaced and the dealership is currently looking for another possible cause.they are claiming that no incident is being logged on the computer.there is no way to predict when the steering is going to lock up.

I received the notice "warranty extension: electric power steering with dtc 32-09 or 61-04"from honda in october 2014 that states, "on some 2007-2008 fit vehicles, the electric power steering may feel heavier than normal or is hard to turn, particularly when the vehicle is not moving. To ensure your confidence in our product, american honda is extending the warranty of the electric power steering to 10 years from the original date of purchase, or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first." it states,"no action is required on your part unless you experience a problem." it states," if the steering feels heavier than normal, contact any authorized honda dealer for an appointment to have it repaired." in two instances i had experienced this problem. Each of these events occurred when i was turning into an intersection. The steering wheel locked up, and i was unable to turn it at all. I was afraid this was going to cause an accident in the intersection. I turned the ignition off, and then back on, and the error went away i have notified troy honda and lafontaine honda that i had experienced this problem twice, but they have both told me since there is no error code currently, there is nothing they can do about it. When i contacted honda customer service, (800) 999-1009, they said the same thing. I am surprised honda would send out this warranty extension, then refuse to fix it when i take my car in for this exact issue.

When i sat and idled at a traffic light, the power steering failed. This happened twice. I had to work very hard to pull the car off the road. I turned off the engine, then turned it back on and the power steering came back on. I looked on line and discovered numerous people have had this problem. Honda even put a bulletin out #09-043 about this. I was not going to wait for a recall because some had written that the power steering had gone out while they were driving. I had the honda dealershiip install a new eps unit on 9/25/13. They charged $1100. Honda should be made to make this a recall because it's extremely dangerous.

I was travel ling at approx 45mph on a secondary road, and the power steering unit suddenly malfunctioned without any prior warning. The steering became extremely heavy, and i almost veered into oncoming traffic.the power steering warning indicator light did illuminate, however it was of no use, as the steering had already failed.turning off the ignition, and restarting the car cleared the problem.i wonder when/if this will happen again, and if an accident will result next time.

Power steering intermittently stops working.fault code 37-1 appears.

We own a 2008 honda fit. At the time of the incident we had approx 48k miles on the vehicle.on a few occasions when starting the car in the morning, the power steering indicator light would come on and the vehicle would have no power steering.. Turning off the car and restarting the vehicle would reset the indicator light and power steering would return.at the end of feb 2010 my husband was on the freeway traveling at @75mph when the light came on and power steering went out in the vehicle. He was able to get to the side of the road with no incident. He turned the car off and on and the indicator light went off and power steering returned.at the dealership, we were advised honda has an internal bulletin that the error codes in the vehicle indicate a problem with the electronic power steering module, a chip of some sort, and that it needs to be replaced. The fix is due to cost us over $700. The part is not covered because we are beyond our 36k factory warranty. We believe it is a safety issue. If we were to lose power steering when navigating a turn crossing lanes of traffic etc, the sudden loss of power steering could cause a hazardous situation. We called honda directly and submitted a complaint and asked that they cover the cost of the part and the fix. Considering that the vehicle has less than 50k miles on it, and that the part is faulty and causes a safety hazard. Honda denied our request.

Whenever i leave my house to drive my car to work early in the morning when it is around 5 or 6 degrees. The power steering warning light turns on, the power steering becomes very tough and hard to move. I would have to restart the car to have the warning light go off. Some times the light takes a few tries before the light goes off.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the steering wheel became hard to maneuver and the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician stated that they were unable to diagnose problem. The vin was not available. The approximate mileage at the time of failure was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. While parked, the contact noticed that the carpets in the rear and the trunk were wet. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was exposed to rainy weather. A passenger that routinely traveled in the vehicle began to get sick and the contact noticed mold was growing on the carpets. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told the rear doors were not properly sealed which allowed water into the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.

Water in the spare tire well.

I own a 2008 honda fit (manual transmission). Beginning last winter (january 2014), ice forms on the interior of the windows of the car (windshield, driver side and passenger side). This is very dangerous as it limits/blocks visibility. The windshield clears after running the heat, but the side windows do not. At stop signs, when it is below freezing out, i have to roll down the windows in order to see if cars are coming. I have not brought this in to the service department, but will consider doing so this winter. Shouldn't there be a recall on this problem?thank you.

I own a 2008 honda fit. Approximately one year ago - in the winter of 2009 my car started to get a moldy musk smell. I've noticed that the smell is much stronger after it rains or snows. Yesterday i went to get in my car and all of the windows were fogged up, and i hadn't used the car in many hours. I am in the process of replacing the rubber molding on all of the doors to try and stop the leaking, but i've been waiting to try and get some help from honda. I am very concerned about mold growing and causing health problems. I've researched a few blogs and have many other fit owners who are having the same problem.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit.the contact stated that water was leaking on the rear floor board behind the front passenger seat.the contact did not know where the water was coming from. The contact had noticed numerous complaints regarding water leaking on the rear floor board. The dealer offered a trade in for the vehicle but the contact does not wanted anyone else to own this vehicle. The contact wants the manufacturer to pay for the repairs. The failure mileage was 57,000.

I have a 2008 honda fit that is leaking in the back floor boards and trunk.

Vehicle parked during rain event, noted heavy leakage into spare tire well and passenger side rear floorboards. It appears to be coming from multiple sources. Windows heavily fogged/iced up from moisture in cabin. This happened twice this month. Secured dealer appointment, but when i arrived i was told that i have to bring it in when their leak specialist is at the shop (why does honda have a regularly-scheduled leak specialist??). I was also told that i have to pay for diagnosis and repair since the vehicle is out of warranty. I have never had a car that leaked water. The fit now has rusty metal parts, wet carpet, and possibly damaged electrical components from water infiltration.

I first noticed water pooling on the rear passenger floor spring 2010. Took to honda dealer where they also found water in the trunk under the spare tire. Sealed several areas including around right rear window.water continues to leak into rear floorboards, now on both driver and passenger sides, as well as a small amount into the trunk area.this happens while vehicle is parked nose up on a slight slope for the most part.dealer has re-examined car and determined that it is a result of body work to rear drivers side door, alleging that the very bottom of the door is uneven (and well below the level the water is coming in). However water continues to come in the passenger side and the rear hatch area where no body work was done. (car had a deer thrown into the 2 drivers side doors and front quarter panel, this was not a vehicular accident, no frame damage, etc, just dented doors).the water on both sides of the rear floorboards (which has a "hump" in the middle of it) is almost 1/2" deep after a steady rainstorm.

Water in spare tire well. Originally thought water in the tire well was due to hatch opening during rain/snow, but since vehicle was not used for a week during heavy rain, this must be due to a leaking window seal.

My honda fit is currently sitting outside my apartment and one day i was stupid and didn't roll up the rear windows. I had about 3 inches of water in the car the next morning. I mopped all of it up and got some damprid from home depot to try and get the stagnant water that i couldn't get to. I've been very vigilant about keeping the windows up since then.i just came back from a weekend away where i left my car and drove my wife's car with her to see my parents for mother's day. I got back into my car today and as usual i check to see if there is water in the back. And with the windows up all weekend the carpets are soaked. This is a tested and real problem that started out as human error and now is a health hazard with mold.

My car has 38000 miles on it.within the last few months, i've noticed a bad smell in my car after it has rained and the interior of the car has been allowed to warm up due to sunlight.i've found water underneath my front driver-side floor mat.it seems to be coming from the bottom portion of the seal that surrounds the door frame of the car, not the door itself.this only happens after heavy rains.it is possible that it comes through the insides of the door, as it ends up on top of the plastic mold, which is inside the door frame seal, that leads to the floorboard.again, it leaves a bad, moldy smell and is ruining my floor mat.i've visited an internet message board, which is mainly discussions on my make and model car, and this problem has been noted amongst some members of the forum.

When it rains the car leaks from their doors onto the floor and back spare tire area. This car has been recalled for switch board defects which potentially can start a fire in the car. There hasn't been a recall for the doors leaking into the car.

2008 honda fit sport:pool of water forms in the hatchback where the spare tire is stored.floor of back seat and the cargo area behind back seat is always wet, and is now growing mold. Water has dripped down on the driver side hitting my head.i am also concerned that the floors will rust as well. This is ongoing. I live in seattle and have lived in st. Louis with this car. Between this structural issue and the airbag - last time i buy a honda.

Driver side door lock cylinder has failed.honda dealer states it'll be over $300 to fix.search of the web shows it's a known issue around 100k miles for honda fits.

This vehicle has been leaking through the door seals completely soaking the rear carpet causing mold to grow and puddles to form.honda has issued recalls for leaking water into switch areas but denies all knowledge of this issue.any internet search will bring up hundreds of 2007 and 2008 honda fits with this exact problem.this vehicle was purchased new and has never been in any accidents.the mold issue has rendered the vehicle unsafe and lowered any resale value.dealerships want approximately $400 to just diagnose the problem and the honda corporation will not help in any way with the problem.

Water leaks into the interior of the car. After it rains, floors in front and in back are soaking. It takes a long time to dry out and has lead to mold growth.

Have had two blowouts on the same wheel (rear passenger) with different tire brands in less than three years of owning the car (blowouts were 16 months apart, maybe 8k miles). The honda fit is not capable of driving on highways! i was traveling at 75 mph, the tire pressure light came onthe dash, my car and steering wheel began to vibrate/jerk, car fishtailed, and i was thrown perpendicular into traffic! i was lucky to not be hit by other drivers on the highway as they were able to stop (second time, there were no other cars behind me). This happened twice! these wheels are not safe! nhtsa needs to launch a full investigation.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that the seal between the door and the window was defective and as a result, water would leak into the vehicle. In addition, mold was growing in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the seal needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who offered to pay for 40 percent of the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 2,000 and the current mileage was 36,000.

I started building condensation up in my car. I took it to straub honda in triadelphia, west virginia. They said that it seemed to be a door seal was leaking. They changed the door seal and dried out the whole car. First of all, for a vehicle for not even 18,000 miles on it should not have seals going bad. Then about 2 weeks later it was leaking again. I couldnt even see out of my windows because they were frozen from the inside. When they thawed out, my windows were dripping water onto my dash and doors. I took my car back into straubs again. They said that they had called a number to see if this problem was occurring nationally. He told me that there was some honda fits that were doing the same thing and that there was cracking along the hatch of the car and water was running through the interior of the car and settling at the back passenger side of the car. I dont know much about the interior wiring of the car, but i hope there is no wiring that this water traveled through. Now, i have paid $300.00 out of pocket to fix a problem that is occurring to other honda fits as well. If the same thing has happened to ours, than its only a matter of time before there is more occurences. If you would like to get in contact of straubs for any reason, i have that number available also. I also have a picture of what it is like trying to drive the car while the window is defrosting, you cant do anything withn it until it is melted 25 minutes later.

Structural body water leaks into the rear seat areas and rear cargo areas. Vehicle taken to two south jersey honda dealerships ( three times ). One dealer stated they couldn't fix the problem. The second sublet the attempted repairs without success. Paid $ 214.00 to the honda dealer who sublet the attempted repairs. Leaks occur during a moderate rain fall..american honda case number : 042-895-29.

Passenger side front window leaks water when driving at 50-65 mphwater enters at very top of window.

I have a 2008 honda fit...the first indication there was a problem was condensation building up inside on the windows...at first i paid no attention and then i realized it was happening way to often. Before i got a chance to contact the dealer i received a recall in the mail for a possible faulty driver's side window problem. Upon cleaning out the vehicle for some reason i looked inside the spare tire well to find water in the spare tire and surrounding area. Took the car to dealer who claimed to have fixed the problem...1 week later my husband checked it again to find there is still water coming into the spare tire section...the car is back with the dealer who claims "they can't determine where the leak is"...i advised them to duplicate the situation by taking the car to a car wash"...

During rain, water leaks in through the back doors and pools on the rear floor boards. This has led to water damage. This happens no matter what the state of the vehicle (in motion or stationary). Has happened numerous times, unsure of the first time it happened. Noted date below is the most recent occurence.

Water enters the car excessively whenever it rains. When researching the issue online, i discovered that many fit owners have the same issue. It appears that water comes in around the windows and the plastic sheeting inside the door compartment isn't sealed correctly, so instead of shedding the water to outside of the car it allows the water to enter the vehicle around the rear speakers. I'm not sure yet how it is getting into the hatch area. I typically have my rear seats down, so i didn't notice the two inches of standing water in my backseat. Further investigation led me to find two inches in the spare tire compartment as well. Judging by the rust disintegrated jack in the spare tire compartment, this has been happening for quite some time. My rear seat, carpet, and carpet pad have been soaked for so long that when i was vacuuming the water out of the car today, i saw white mold growing along the top of my rear seats. I'm sure the car is loaded with mold and possibly needs to be totaled due to this issue. This now presents major health risks.

While parked my 2008 honda fit has a water leak that can seem to be found.according to internet message boards this seems to be a problem plaguing many if not most 2007-2008 fit owners.the water leaks and pools on the rear floors causing mold to grow with a strong smell of mildew.when i contacted honda they told me it would cost approximately $150 per hour to diagnose the problem alone.instead of that i took it to a local mechanic who could clearly see there was a water issue, but after 2 hours of inspection, could not find the leak.i believe this is a manufacturing defect and should be recalled, especially considering that the carpet has to be replaced to be completely free of the mold.the vehicle has never been in an accident, is not misused, and is serviced regularly (following the recommended honda maintenance schedule).

My son hit a trailer from behind. Truck decided to back up at same time my son took off. Air bags did not go off. Extensive damage to front of car and frame. Son suffered a stiff neck and achy back.the air bags did not work on two accidents t his car has been in.

My car is currently "leaking". There's no other way to describe it. When it rains a pool of water forms in the hatchback where the spare tire is stored. The floor of the back seat gets soaked through with water. Because the water is so excessive, the car is never able full dry out, and mold is forming. I do not have a garage, therefore the car is always subject to the environmental elements. I have serious concerns about exposure to mold growth from this situation. I am pregnant, with a child due in september. I am concerned because my daily commute to work is over 30 minutes each way (over an hour total) and my shift begins so early i always have the windows all the way up (too cold in ohio). I use this car to transport myself everywhere, and once the baby comes i don't feel comfortable exposing an infant to that kind of mold. Its extremely dangerous for children (and people with compromised immune systems, like pregnant women!) to be exposed to mold on a daily basis.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that the rear floorboard in the vehicle contained a large pile of mold. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.

Leak causing large pools of water at rear floorboards on both driver and passenger sides after sitting in rain for several hours. After drying manually with towels, another rainstorm reproduced the issue.

Noticed red paint fading on roof, trunk, doors, etc.understand honda cheaped out on the primer and uv protection clear coat on their cars.i understand that they need to make this right and provide a free paint job to the affected customers and that includes me!

Water leaking through rear hatch weather seal. Originally thought water came through rear hatch whenever i opened it to get things during a storm.i began to realize that water would accumulate when it rained even when the hatch was never opened. I started to hear splashing type sounds thinking it was the fuel or a low coolant level. A few months ago i was vacuuming the car and lifted up the rear floor covering over the tire well and discovered at least two gallons of water almost submerging the spare tire. Shortly afterwards i started to observe water dripping down through a plastic cover that houses a utility hook on the car's ceiling. The headliner also was leaking near the hatch .i now check the tire well after it rains and it never fails that the tire well and surrounding area are wet. I can only usethe defrost setting because if i don't the windows will fog up. I have also noticed the rear seat carpeting getting damp even when only the driver's door is used during a storm. The dealership has down played the situation suggesting i have the weather seals replaced by them with a charge for the part and labor. I spoke to honda of america and they told me to take it to a dealership to be diagnosed for a fee. I have spent several months investigating on my own and have reached my own diagnosis that the weather seals on honda fits are defective. I am about ready to trade the car in for something else besides a honda. I love the car but can only foresee more aggravation down the pike. I am capable of applying silicone caulk under the existing weather seals but will not because i am dissatisfied that honda has not done anything to fix the problem on all honda fits.

After a day of heavy rains, the floor panels in my honda fit puddle up with water.the rear floor panels (underneath the passenger seats) in particular pool with water and have started to rust the hinges of the car foldaway seat mechanisms as the fabric liners get soaked with water. My concern here is that mold will build up in my car making my car unsafe to be in.thank you for reading this.

Rear hatch back latch failure to lock due to rusting. Door may not secure properly opening co tents t road while driving.

There is a leak that causes water to accumulate in the spare tire well and passenger-side rear floor when it rains or snows. I've found this to be a common problem in online forums for 2007 and 2008 honda fit owners.

Due to this airbag defectiveness my car got damaged and affected badly

I am the original and only owner of this 2008 honda fit sport. This car has not been in any accidents so the integrity of the structure of the vehicle should be sound. But it is not. I am not sure when the issue began but i have known about it for a few years and didn't realize that so many other 2008 honda fit owners have had the same problem. So, i am just now making this complaint. My car, just as many other 2008 honda fit sport owners have reported, has a structural deficiency somewhere that allows water into the vehicle in at least two separate entry points. Water pools in the location where the spare tire is located. Not just a little bit, not just a drop or two...but a "pool" of water. Secondly, water is getting into the right rear passenger floorboard. The carpet is constantly wet and mushy. My car smells terrible due to sitting water (smells like rusty dank water?) and very likely mold growth. There have been so many complaints about this issue on these cars i cannot believe honda has not issued a recall. Honda either needs to make these cars structurally sound with a repair or somehow make it right with the owners by way of a monetary equivalent to the depreciation of the vehicle due to this structural issue. How in the world can i sell this car with this problem?

After a very heavy rainstorm, we found a couple inches of water in the front passenger side floor. Since then even light rains are causing water to accumulate both in the front passenger side and back passenger side floor. It is difficult to remove the water and mold will certainly be starting to form soon.

Rain water is leaking into the interior of the car from multiple entry points. One identified entry point are cracks in the bonding material between the roof and rear upper side panels that allows water into the spare tire well and rear floorboards. Additional water is accumulating in the front passenger footwell from an undetermined location behind the glove box/dash. This has resulted in mildew and mold growth in the interior carpeting, matting and foam. This is a health risk especially to young children and adults with respiratory conditions.

Bought used 2008 fit in jan/2014. Noted water in driver and rear passenger floors/carpet and doors following rain storm.took wet car to sheehy ford in mechanicsville (where i purchased it) within the used warranty.was told they "could not find cause".nothing done. Since then and to date (10/30/2015), water continues to accumulate in these areas following rainfall.musty/mold odor - where is the recall on this issue?

Lost control of steering and veered into light post.the post was impacted at approximately 30 mph.the air bag did not deploy.there was smoke and gun powder smell.the car was a total loss.the airbag obviously fired, but did not deploy.

My son hit a trailer from behind. Truck decided to back up at same time my son took off. Air bags did not go off. Extensive damage to front of car and frame. Son suffered a stiff neck and achy back.the air bags did not work on two accidents t his car has been in.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelrate. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was found that the front axle was fractured due to rust. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.

Water in spare tire well. Originally thought water in the tire well was due to hatch opening during rain/snow, but since vehicle was not used for a week during heavy rain, this must be due to a leaking window seal.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota fit. The contact stated that the tpms light constantly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated she will have to pay for a diagnostic test and that there are no recalls or warranty for this failure. The warranty on her vehicle expired eight days before she brought the vehicle in for repairs. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 21,000. Updated 12/07/10. *ljupdated 12/30/10. *ljupdated 04/06/11

Shortly after receiving the safety recall notice, in february, i contacted honda and over the next few weeks, and multiple phone calls, provided them with contact info, receipts and bank statements showing that the left front axle had failed previously and been repaired and paid for by me at a local garage.i heard nothing from honda for a number of weeks.in the last month (may) i have called twice and emailed honda once asking for an update on my reimbursement claim but have had no response.can you suggest what i might do now?

My honda fit repeatedly stalls from cold engine starts.this has been happening regularly and randomly for the last several months.it will stall both when at a stop (such as at a stop light or sign) and at slow speed, such as when pulling out of a drive or backing up.this stops happening once the engine warms up.i have taken the vehicle to two mechanics, neither of whom has been able to find the problem.i would have thought this to be a problem with just my vehicle and not bothered to report the problem to safecar.gov, except that when i do an internet search about my problem, i find that many, many other owners of 2008 fits are having the same problem.there is also a "stall" issue recall for 2009-2010 fits.thank you.

Takata recall

The transponder key wore out prematurely and damaged the driver's side door lock over several months, then the passenger side door lock, then the ignition, the last of which required replacement. Use of the key became troublesome at roughly four and a half years, but at first only in the driver's side door lock. After having new coded keys cut at the dealer the door locks work reasonably well, but the ignition requires twenty to thirty attempts, if it seats at all. The vehicle is not reliable if key is removed from ignition.

When i bought this car i took it on a road test. The tpms light was on. We returned to the dealer and had them check the tire pressure. After i bought the car the light came on as it wished. One time the car was parked for several hours. I left the parking lot and drove a few miles when i heard a strange zinging sound and felt a wiggling feeling in the seat of my pants. I changed lanes to make sure it wasnot the pavement, it was not. I pulled over to the shoulder of the road and just as i slowed down i saw the yellow tpms light come on. I got out of the car and checked my tires. The first tire i checked was the left rear and i found it was completely flat. I got the spare out on mounted it. I check the air pressure in the spare and it was 60 psi. As i put the flat tire into the back of the car i saw a 4 inch hole in the tread of the tire, with a piece of terra cotta colored chunk of ceramic sticking out of the tread. I got home and i dismounted the tire from the wheel and mounted a new tire on the wheel and installed the wheel on the car. The next time i had the yellow tpms light come on was a year or so later. This time there was no flat tire and i took the car to the dealer to have it checked out. The dealer replace one of the sensors and told me the battery had died. The next time i had a problem with the tpms was a year or so later. I was crossing a 5 mile long bridge and the light came on. No flat tires this time either. I found that when ever i crossed this particular bridge i saw the tpms light come on. Finally the light went out and then after some time the light came back on. No flat tire then either. This system is so faulty that it cannot be relied on. The battery life is 5-12 years, average of 7 years and mine did not last the first year! the replacement sensors are $50.00 which makes them ridiculously expensive for an item that does not work.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. While driving 5 mph and attempting to make a u-turn she shifted from drive to reverse as her foot was on the brake pedal; the vehicle lunged forward and crashed into a wall. There were no injuries. The front bumper was damaged. The police were not notified. The insurance company was notified about the crash. The vehicle was towed from the scene to a repair shop. The dealer was called and informed of the incident and advised her to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing becausethey never heard of the failure. The toyota manufacturer was not notified. The failure and current mileages were 43,200.

I was pulling into a space at work with my foot on the break. The car was straight at that point. All of a sudden the engine revered and accelerated and hit the garage outside wall/pipe. Car bounced back about 6 feet.

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. While reversing from a parking space at approximately 2 mph; there was a sudden increase of acceleration. The driver stated the accelerator pedal was positioned extremely close to the brake pedal. The failure occurred on six separate occasions. The manufacturer was unable to assist when notified of the malfunction. The failure mileage was 300. The current mileage was 13,064.

After backing slowly out of a parking place, i put the automatic transmission into drive.my foot was still touching the brake pedal and the car suddenly accelerated rapidly.i slammed my foot down on the brake, but it continued to move forward.i quickly moved the gearshift to neutral, the engine raced and then slowly returned to idle.i immediately stopped and checked the floor mat, but it was flat on the floor.my foot was not on the accelerator when the acceleration occurred, and if the mat were interfering with the accelerator pedal, the engine speed would not have raced and then slowly decreased after i put it in neutral.this was clearly a malfunction.i have an engineering background and know the difference between driver foot error and equipment malfunction.

Car has beenstalling taken it to several mechanics plus the dealership andthey can't find the problem.today was the worse it stalled 3 times at a drive thru and twice while at a busy intersection.it seems the car stalls more oftenif the air condition is on i do not feel safe driving around with my windows rolled down plus high temps.today i noticed the car accelerated after idling at a traffic lightsince i am not the primary driver i don't know how long this has been going on.between the stalls and speed acceleration i am a nervous wreck driving this car. Themileage on car 108000 and it is anautomatic vin#[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Dangerous!

The contact owns a 2008 honda fit. The contact stated that the front driver's side master power window switch would operate intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they refused to repair the vehicle under the recall even though the vin was included. The nhtsa campaign id number was 10v033000 (visibility). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000...updated 07-05-13

Check engine sign all the time. Seat belt not release automatically, whine drive on the rain and snow not see clearly wiper doesn't work good. Some time tpms sign show up

The contact stated that there was water leaking into the vehicle causing damage to the airbags. The contact mentioned that the airbag warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the tread on the tires separated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the front drivers side door failed allowing water to enter and that the wheel was steel and not standard for warm climate. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 71,000.
