When: motor vehicle accident on wednesday, 11/07/2007, 1515hrswhere: southbound co hwy 93 and eastbound co hwy 72; jefferson county, state of colorado; what: motor vehicle accident: 2006 honda element was struck by an suv. The accident caused the 2006 honda element to rollover, once, before righting onto its wheels.extensive damage occurred to the element automobile.notably, the airbags - front, passenger, and side - did not deploy.the safety belt restraint system protected the sole occupant from life-threatening injuries. Who: colorado state patrol. Jefferson county sheriff department, arvada, co police department; and arvada fire department arrived at the scene.the attending law and emergency rescue personnel were surprised that the honda element airbag system did not deploy due to the severity and catastrophic nature of the accident.issue: was the 2006 honda element air bag system defective due to the absence of deployment in this rollover accident?

I was driving on a highway and heard an extremely loud pop - it sounded like maybe one of my tires exploded somehow.it turns out the passenger side air bag had deployed and popped. My right ear was ringing for a while after this happened and i fortunately maintained control of the car and figured out it was the air bag when i saw the blue air bag hanging out of the passenger seat.

I was driving on a curvy road where it had recently rained -only driver was in vehicle.the element suv skid and possibly hydroplaned a little.the suv jumped the curb and crashed into a concrete column of a freeway overpass.the front end was smashed in and the radiator was destroyed.the passenger side airbag deployed but the driver airbag did not deploy.the collision was more on the driver side and it still did not deploy the airbag.the seatbelt i had on tensed up and kept me from crashing into the steering wheel.i did bounce a little and hit my head either on the side column or the frame above the window.the airbag may have prevented that.i am shocked it did not deploy.

Ta..kata recall;the light saying the air bags needed to be replaced is the only warning i had that alerted me to the danger .the vehicle was in motion when the light came on and i was traveling on the freeway.

I was driving approximately 25 mph vehicle in front suddenly stopped i rear ended vehicle causing damage to front bumper, hood and driver side panel, there was no injuries thank god driver air bags did not deploy also passenger on rear side seat belt snapped this was my second fender bender in three years where front air bags did not deploy, this is a major concern because my family's safety is my priority and honda should look into this seriously before major injuries or deaths occurs.

The contact owns a 2006 honda element. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated and remained lit while driving. Which was a safety concern. The contact called the dealer (ocean honda of ventura, 6450 auto center dr, ventura, ca 93003, 805-590-2844) and was advised to schedule a diagnostic and repair appointment. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 187,000.

The airbag light is on in my 2006 honda element.it is well known to be a fault in the design of the seatbelt latch sensor.honda won't take responsibility and wants to charge $$$$$ to diagnose and fix.this design flaw will cause the airbags to not deploy in a crash.lives are at risk and honda won't fix it.

We got a letter in the mail about the recall on the airbags. Air bag light always on. We have a knocking sound in the engine ,the driver door gets stuck, we have no a/c , one fan under the hood work, shocks missing up tires, battery die all the time, and have had problems with the car just cutting off at lights or when stoped by itself.

I was driving down a street at the rate of about 20 mph and heard a pop and i lost hearing and senses and my arm flew sideways because my driver side airbag had deployed. After regaining my senses, i got out of my honda element to check to see what caused the deployment and i saw no damage. My driver side seat airbag deployed for no reason and injured my arm. My vehicle is currently at the honda dealership being inspected.

2006 honda element.consumer writes in regards to vin# not listed on passenger airbag recall list andrequests information on the type of propellant used in the passenger airbag system.the consumer stated the driver side air bag was replaced in june 2015. The consumer is now concerned about the passenger air bag exploding. Honda informed the consumer a recall was issued for his make and model, but not his year.

Opds sensor failed/tripped. Vehicle was stationary. No accident/collision involved.airbag warning light on dash constantly on. Although opds sensor is clearly part of srs, honda dealership claims it falls outside of srs lifetime warranty/warranty extension.concern over side airbag deployment in case of accident.

This is to report air bag deployment while driving. Had to brake to avoid tree branch. No damage to car other than the tore sit and opening of bag. I had damage to right side of arm being that it happened on driver side. I am concerned that this might happen to other vehicles as well. My car is a bit old, but in good working conditions we have taken care of it. However, should i be worry that this might happen again. I have been reading some of the postings in websites and it seems to happen often. I would advise nhtsa to look into it. Please keep us informed and if ever there is a recall please inform the public.

I drove the rear-right wheel over an angled curb at exactly 5mph in a parking lot.dash cam gps confirms the speed.this triggered the passenger's side airbag to deploy.there is no visible damage to the tire or vehicle.luckily there was no passenger at the time.i do not believe the airbag should be triggered for such a minor event as running over an angled parking curb at very low speed.

I hit a deer last december and the only reason the insurance company did not total it was because the air bags did not deploy. There was just about $10,000 worth of damage to my car. After waiting a month and a half, traveling 18 hours & spending an extra $200 for travel to go get my car i finally got it back. Also, my car does not idle like it should. It will also go dead when i come to a stop. It doesn't happen all the time but it will happen in the middle of traffic and i will be stuck there for a few minutes.

The contact owns a 2006 honda element. While driving at various speeds, the driver seat air bag deployed independently without an impact occurring. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v665000 (air bags). The failure mileage was 173,000.

Takata recall.local honda dealer in hyannis ma has been unable to get the necessary parts for this recall for over 60 days.i called again today and they took our information again and said they would place the order.they are still unable to say when they will be receiving the part(s).

Driving on gravel road 30 mph drivers side impact airbag deployed for no apparent reason. Road in fair-to good condition. No contact made with any object. Driver was stunned with surprise could have been a catastrophic accident. Honda checked out by dealer and honda refused to pay saying not a defect in car.

2006 honda element.consumer writes in regards to dissatisfaction with service at dealership associated with defective air bag recall replacement.upon arrival for a scheduled appointment, the consumer was informed the part would not be available until september 2015. Updated 07/20/15.

I was driving down my own driveway, when there was a very loud explosion to my right. After a moment, i realized the passenger seat side airbag deployed. There was nothing on the seat at the time. My right ear rang for quite some time after. Luckily, my dog was crated behind me. I rolled down the windows to dissipate the powder floating about. Honda, both the local dealer and corporate, have been less than helpful in this matter. I am just happy it happened in my own driveway ( which i almost drove off of) rather than on the major hwy i had been on the day before as i surely would have crashed.

The contact owns a 2006 honda element. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, there was an unusually loud noise coming from the vehicle immediately followed by the air bag warning light illuminating on the instrument panel. While driving at speeds of 65 mph, within an hour, the driver side air bag partially deployed. The dealer could not duplicate nor determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted but was not willing to provide any assistance. There were no repairs made to the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 23,601 and the current mileage was 24,704. The vin was not available.

A lady ran a red light (which was already red for 12 seconds) and hit me from the right side, which then caused my car to go at an angle striking a pole head-on. The airbags all deployed as they were supposed to but i did end up having second degree burns on my hands and wrists. While the bags worked as they were supposed to, i thought it wise to file a complaint for the mere purpose of requiring the auto industry to make its customers aware of the types of burns that airbag deployment can cause. I have found in talking to many people about my wreck, that a lot of people have no idea that they can get burned by these things that are installed in their cars.

The contact owns a 2006 honda element. The contact stated that he had his vehicle serviced for an air bag recall at autonation honda clearwater (17275 us hwy 19 n, clearwater, fl 33764) under nhtsa campaign number: 19v182000(air bags) . After the vehicle was serviced, the air bag warning light would intermittently illuminate. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer to have the vehicle inspected, but to no avail. After the fifth visit, the dealer performed a diagnostic and discovered that the defect was due to faulty air bag wiring. The contact was then given an estimate for repairs of approximately $1,000.00. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

I was driving down the interstate at 65 mph when i heard a loud boom. My arm went numb and my left ear was silent. As i looked down, i noticed that my driver's sideimpact airbag had deployed. There was nothing in the road. I did not hit anything. Nothing hit me. There is no external damage to my vehicle. The seat ripped open when the airbag deployed and the airbag left a sizable welt and bruise on my arm. There is no reason that the airbag should have deployed. I have not taken it to the dealership yet but have had it looked at by a few mechanics and they have not been able to identify any reason that the airbag has deployed. I will be taking it to the dealership this week. From my personal research, this is not an isolated incident. Honda is aware that there is an issue with a unexplainable airbag deployment and has made no action to correct the issue. As it continues to happen, it will cause an accident and someone will be fatally injured. This issue needs to be addressed.

The contact owns a 2006 honda element. While driving approximately 35 mph, the driver side air bag deployed without warning or impact. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the deployment could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

I called braman honda in miami, florida (7000 coral way, miami, fl 33155, (800) 568-9724), in order to make an appointment for recall #14v-351 (airbags), and was told they would try to get back to me in three weeks. I was not offered a loaner, until the part arrived, and i purchased my car new there. If i have an accident with injuries, i want this on the record.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Daughter was driving on a highway with stop and go traffic and hit the car in front of her.the passenger air bag went off, which we had fixed on a recall notice years before. However the driver air bag did not go off. My daughter went forward and it affected her jaw.we are concerned that the driver airbag did not even go off to protect her. The police even commented on it. Her car may be unfixable we will know soon. We want to report this for others safety.

My side curtain airbag came out after running over a branch that i could not avoid. I came over a hill on a residential street and the branches were all over the road. I got out of my car because i smelled smoke. It was only upon getting back in my car that i realized the air bag was hanging out. It did not inflate just came out. I recently had the recall taken care of for the front driver side. Every auto body person i have spoke with says that it should not have deployed for something like a branch. Also, my seat belts are still working which is uncommon after the air bag deploying. Honda has not wanted to take responsibility for the air bag deploying without true cause.

This vehicle was making a left turn into a neighborhood when it collided with an oncoming vehicle which was traveling approximately 45 mph. The impact was front driver's side to front driver's side. The driver's side airbag did not deploy which resulted in the driver losing consciousness and suffering a concussion.

I ran head on into the side of a mitsubishi montero going 40 mph.the passenger airbag deployed even though there wasn't a passenger.the driver airbag did not deploy.the police, firemen, paramedics, and insurance adjusters were all shocked when they saw the car with the airbag not deployed. I have a photo of the damage to the front of the car that i can e-mail to you which will show the amount of damage.i have a photo of the inside showing the passenger airbag deployed and the driver airbag intact.

My 2006 honda element was involved in an accident. My front end impacted the passenger side of the other vehicle. The entire front end of the element was crushed and part of the frame damaged beyond repair.the driver's airbag failed to deploy while the passenger's airbag did inflate. Driver has suffered bruising in the chest area from the seat belt.car is currently in an autobody shop in arlington waiting for the insurance company to declare it unrepairable.

The contact owns a 2006 honda element.while driving 15 mph, the front driver's side air bag deployed without warning.the air bag light illuminated after the deployment.the manufacturer stated that they never heard of air bags deploying without an impact occurring and would not assume liability.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were less than 26,000.

While sitting behind a car waiting to make a left hand turn 2006 honda element was struck from behind by a car traveling approx. 45 mph. 2006 element then struck the car in front of it. Driver's side airbag did not deploy, nor did the seat belt grab, resulting in driver smashing face and ribs against steering wheel.

Driver ran into stopped car in front of him.speed was sufficient to flatten the car up to the front of the engine - little damage behind that.car is 2006 honda element.air bag did not deploy.safety belt did not lock up quickly - driver struck the steering wheel, and chest was bruised by top of steering wheel.passenger seat moved to the full forward position, almost touching the dashboard.no significant injuries resulted, but safety systems did not work as expected.

July 28th 2006 @ about 3 pm. I was driving home on the freeway @ normal rate of speed (65 or so mph) with the flow of traffic. I was driving in the second from the fast lane. It was a normal southern california day, sunny, clear and hot. After about 40 minutes of my 1 hour commute the drivers side airbag suddenly and without any warning deployed with a extremely loud and disorienting bang! i was quite startled by the deployment but was able to maintain control of the vehicle. When the bag went off my left arm was resting on the window ledge. I received a nasty welt on my upper forearm as a result of the bags sudden deployment.i then pulled off the freeway to inspect my vehicle. I found no signs of damage on the exteriorand none on the interior except for the rather large rip in my drivers side seat and the now deployed airbag hanging off the side of my seat.i took the car to the dealer on saturday left it for the tech to evaluate. I was called that afternoon and informed that i would need to bring it back and leave it during the week so they could consult the corporate advisors/specialist in the matter. I returned the car on tuesday aug 1 2006 for the evaluation. I received a call later in the day informing me that honda would not be repairing the vehicle as i had hit or run over something causing the deployment. As i said earlier there was no impact and nothing was run over prior to the deployment. I have owned the car since mile 7 on the odometer and have been the only driver for it's 18000 miles.i want to make it clear this was a very dangerous occurrence. I was able to control the vehicle and avoid an accident. Maybe the next person this happens to wont. I don't want this to go undocumented for future victims.also, i don't think a sensor should be placed anywhere under the vehicle where it could be struck and cause an accidental deployment anyway!

Accidental side airbag deployment:the side air bad has deployed twice (~12 months apart) without any side impact.

My daughter was driving on the highway to school when suddenly the driver's air bag exploded into her side. She hadn't hit a pot hole and hadn't run over anything. She pulled off the road and checked to see if she had been shot. She said smoke or a gas released from the airbag. She took it to the closest honda dealership the next day. The dealership did an assessment of the sensors and examined underneath the car.they said that the car must have run over an object that set the sensors off because they said there was a small gash that ran parallel to the car;s body. My daughter did not notice any debris on the road. Even if she did run over road debris, why are sensors placed in this spot under the sidestep where any little bump causes the sensors to make the airbag explode.they offered tohave the sensors and seat airbag replace at a cost to us. We declined as we feel that honda should pay for this since the sensors are placed in a dangerous accident causing position where any bump can set it off causing the airbag to explode without necessarily being in an accident. This could have caused a serious accident.

I was driving my 2006 honda element on a dirt road at 25 mph when the side airbag in the drivers side seat spontaneously deployed. I took it to the dealer and they said that it was not covered under the bumper to bumper warranty because the airbag did what it was supposed to do. The side airbag on a honda element deploys as the result of a single sensor being activated. The front airbags deploy when 2 out of 3 sensors are activated. I was told by the dealer that this has happened on other honda elements, not as the result of an accident but because of the sensor indicating a need for deployment.

Air bag went off while driving down the freeway... Air bag went off for no reason just driving drivers side air bag burned and bruised arm..car at the honda dealer they are deciding to fix or not to fix the car. Don't know if honda will fix the car.

Driver's side airbag deployed after minor non-damaging bottom impact.the car was driven over a pile of asphalt at a very low rate of speed (>5mph)and when it came down it bottomed out on the pile.the side (passenger seat) air bag deployed.there is no external body damage to the vehicle other than some shallow scratches on the bottom frame at the point of impact.i don't deny impact, but complain that a $1000 repair and the potential for passenger injury (no one in seat at time) resulted from a non-damaging, non-severe, non-injury threatening bottom impact.an airbag should not deploy with such minor impact.my bag system is now inoperative and my side bag is blown out of the passenger seat back.airbags are there to protect flesh from crushing metal and shattering glass.why did a bag go off when no protection was necessary?the only protection needed at that time was protection from a needlessly exploding air bag! now my entire system is inoperable in the event it is needed for a valid impact.

On 9/7/10 while driving southbound on i-15 south of las vegas, nv the right front. Passenger airbag on my 2006 honda element inadvertently deployed. There was no impact or collision of any kind.my wife was sitting in the right front passenger seat when the incident occurred. The right front passenger side airbag deployed with such force that it blew a hole through a blanket my wife had wrapped around her injuring her right arm and shoulder. Upon returning to my home in ventura, ca i contacted a local honda dealer in oxnard, ca. They were very circumspect in their discussions with me and i was asked to visit them on 9/13/10 with any "additional information" i may have. I have done some research since the incident in question and have discovered that other incidents such as mine have occurred in the past and have been reported to your agency, but with little or no results. It is my understanding that north american honda has refused to acknowledge any responsibility for what seems to be a defect in their airbag system(s). So far as i can tell from my research no one has been killed yet by previous incidents in a honda element such as mine. It is my contention that it is only a matter of time before you can put an "x" in the death or fatality box on your form. It's time your agency stepped up to the plate and did something to force honda to take responsibility for this defect.

I was driving my 2006 honda element down the road to get out of the neighborhood. The car only has 24,000 miles on it. It was in arrowhead honda in peoria, az on june 30th 09 for a oil change. As i was driving the driver side airbag(seat airbag) deployed. It was an extremely load bang. I pulled over to see if it was my tire or what had happened. There was no debris road at all. The airbag deployed on its own. I took it back to arrowhead honda, and they said they would not fix it.they said i had to file an insurance claim for this. I did some research and found out i am not the only person that this has happened to. Honda needs to fix this.

The contact owns a 2006 honda element.while driving 65 mph, the vehicle was involved in a crash.the air bags failed to deploy.the dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure and advised the contact to call the manufacturer and nhtsa.the contact sustained an injury to her collar bone.a police report was filed.the engine size and # of cylinders were unknown.updated 08/16/07.

I was driving at low speed along a gravel road at approximately 10 mph in a 2004 honda element ex when the side airbag deployed on the driver's side of the vehicle. I did not hit anything and i can find no reason why this airbag would deploy without any impact.

The ignition lock cylinder failed suddenly, preventing any use of the vehicle. The wafers (equivalent to pins on tumbler locks) wore away such that the key no longer worked in the lock. The failure occurred such that turning the key in the ignition is impossible, and strands the driver and all passengers wherever the car is at the time. When the part failed, the vehicle was stalled on a roadway where speeds regularly exceed 30 mph and i immediately tried to move the car out of danger. The steering wheel locked and was impossible to unlock without turning the key in the lock cylinder. The car remained in the road for about a half hour until permission was secured to turn the car into the driveway where the wheels turning lead into, requiring pushing the car through two lanes of traffic. Once in the driveway, it took an additional hour for a tow truck to come (we were lucky the driveway existed at that location!). After towing expenses, dealership quoted repairs at around $800 for just repairing the ignition lock cylinder, and additional expenses for replacing all the locks on the vehicle so that one key would work on all locks on the car. I believe that this is a major safety concern because 1) the failure prevents use, or even controlled movement of the car being pushed (the steering wheel locks, and won't unlock without the key turning in the lock cylinder) in whatever situation the car is in, whether stalled on a roadway or parked, 2) there is no maintenance procedure prescribed to prevent this issue, 3) because of the design of the key/lock combination, this issue will happen eventually to all vehicles with this type of lock (sidewinder key), 4) there is little to no indication of imminent failure.

Window motor didnt let window go up.. Window went down n wasn't able to roll up.. Loud noise from driver window motor..my car was parked n when turn on car window dropped also power steering n knock sensor causing no pressure to move. Hesitation loss of fuel

2006 honda element approx 114,000 miles. Vehicle low beams both stop working simultaneously while vehicle is in motion at various speeds increasing likelihood of crash. This is recurrent issue with this model and other honda models including pilot and fit. Issue relates to burning contact in wiring harness. This is clearly a defect in manufacturing/ design that puts drivers and other motorists at risk of accident.

Drove car on a 6 hr trip with one stop for gas during daylight hours therefore there was no need to turn headlights on.when reaching destination, headlights had turned on by themselves although the headlight switch on the steering column remained in the 'off' position and was never turned on by the driver that day.car headlight warning would not sound when car was turned off and door open even though the lights remained on.removed headlight fuse that night.the next day, inserted fuse and headlights were still on.took to honda dealership who replaced headlight relay but that same day headlights continued to turn on by themselves while car was turned off.dealership replaced entire fuse box to fix the problem.less than one week later, while driving the car will not go over3,000 rpm.took to dealership who stated that the vtech sensor for oil pressure needed to be replaced.*car was bought new in aug 2006 so only has been driven by one owner for 4 years with dealer recommended maintenance performed.

There's an electrical problem. The car sometimes will not start right away. We have to give it several tries and usually after 5 minutes it will start. We've already replaced the starter and problem still persists. We thought last recall would have fixed the problem, because this issue was mentioned. But, the same problem still continues after last recall.

Dt*: the contact stated the instrument panel was not bright enough to see clearly during daylight hours. The service dealer recommended tinting added to the front side windows and the top few inches of the windshield.led lights were installed into the instrument panel in an attempt to correct the problem. The visibility was still poor and took attention from the road. The manufacturer was notified.updated10/04/06

Dt*:the contact stated the instrument panel on the vehicle was set too far into the dash to see the gauges effectively during daylight hours.the manufacturer was notified, and a case was opened.the vehicle was not taken in for service.updated 10/04/06.

The contact owns a 2006 honda element. The contact stated that he was unable to see any of the indicators in the instrument panel when the sun was shining.the failure prevented him from keeping track of his driving speed because the speedometer wasnot visible.the failure almost caused the contact to strike another vehicle while driving 50 mph.the current and failure mileages were 4,000. 2006 honda element.consumer writes in regards to defectivelow beam headlight combination switch wire harness connector recall notice.the consumer stated she experienced the same problem with her headlights as noted in the recall.however, the consumer was informed due to the very low failure rate in the elements, they were not included in the recall. The consumer stated the problem creates overheating on the wiring harness connector and unexpected loss of low beam functionality, which could result in a crash.

But, the same problem still continues after last recall.

My cars has been hesitating when driven and stalling, i replaced the battery, then it stalled two more times. I brought the car to the casey dealership they put in on the computer and test drove the car they could not duplicate the problem and informed me it may be my fuel pump but the engine is not throwing a code so i was basically told to wait until the car will no longer start then they can diagnose the problem. 7-27-14 the car has stalled on me three times today i sent for tow truck to tow it back to the dealership the tow truck driver just wanted to see if it would start and it did of course. So now i am back to waiting for it to stall again and not let anyone attempt to start the car.

About 3 - 4 times per year, the car engine races without any reason why.it is necessary to stand on the brake & shift into neutral; and then wait til the engine stops racing (usually 15 - 25 seconds).until 2 days ago (8/21/2014), it has only happened when being alone in the car.however, on this occasion my wife was a passenger. She was quite upset over thisthere is usually no indication when it is going to happen, but on this occasion, the brakes did not seem to be working properly when i pulled into a store parking lot. Came to a stop sign, and the engine began it's racing.shifted into neutral and waited about 15 seconds, while also applying the brakes.the car then returned to normal.except for noticing some difficulty with the brakes, this was the usual racing incident that has been encountered over the years.since it has only been me in the past in the vehicle, i did not feel a need to report the incidents.

The contact owns a 2006 honda element. The contact stated that the vehicle would stall sporadically while driving 65 mph or above. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least six times who ran several diagnostic tests but was unable to determine a failure. The manufacturer was notified who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 88,000 and the current mileage was 98,000.

In cold weather and cold starts. Engine stalls at stops. Slowing down between 15 mph and 0 mph engine stalls. Slowing down to make a turn engine will stallduring turn. Lose steering ability when engine stops.

Car unexpectedly accelerated after pulling out of parking space.i was able to control the car with brake, stop and turn off the car.has not occurred since. *ln

Poor radio performance on am stations only when car is moving.not static. Sounds like loose wire to antenna. Dealer says no information on failure.

Low beam headlight failure - the headlights on this 2006 honda element failed in much the same manner as described in the 2007 honda fit recall and the 2002-2003 honda civic recall.the headlight wiring harness connector is burnt on the second pin from the left-hand side, on the top of the connector, if one looked at it as it was removed from the switch.

The contact stated that the low beam headlights failed while driving at an unknown speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The failure was located at the low bean assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer advised that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 12v136000 (exterior lighting). The approximate failure and current mileage was 120,000. Updated 05/15/13*lj updated 05/30/2013

2006 honda element had a gas leak only after being five months old.honda said that they have not seen this occur before however this is the second brand new honda that i have had issues with.i had to breath in gas fumes for two months while honda tried to figure where the gas was coming from.

I noticed that the side doors latch along the running board on the driver's side of my 2006 honda element had come loose. The two sizable bolts that should secure the latch to the vehicle body float freely when the latch can be moved by hand. Visually, the only thing that seems to be keeping the latch from falling onto the street is the black plastic interior strips that overlap the flange of the latch. Looks to me that if that latch comes free from the vehicle then both doors could potentially swing open creating a dangerous situation.

Automatic transmission: when shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear, there is a gear slippage action and sound in the transmission.apparently, this failure is related to nhtsa campaign # 11v395000 / honda's recall campaign # r89.i had this recall performed last friday by an authorized honda dealer.before the automatic transmission control module software was updated, there was a loud knocking sound while shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear.after the software was updated, the knocking sound disappeared, but the transmission still slips between 1st shift to 2nd shift.i understand that this failure is due to the malfunction mentioned in this recall.i expect honda take in consideration my vehicle safety complaint and have a positive response from honda.note: i had not received before, a recall campaign about this from honda.

The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

My vehicle sometimes stall in the middle of making turns. Found a nhtsa campaign number 11v395000 which best describes what happens to my vehicle.

2006 honda element. Consumer states problem with vehicle transmission *tgwthe consumer stated he is submitting a complaint against honda, because they did not provide a reasonable explanation as to why the transmission problem was not caused by the same module software described in recall 11v395000.in november 2009, the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to check a rattle in the passenger side front tire. The dealer found a problem with the transmission carrier bearing and quoted a price of $3,300.after complaining, honda agreed to replace the transmission, but the consumer had to pay the labor.the consumer contacted honda in october 2011 because he did not receive a recall letter. Honda stated his vin was not included in the recall. The consumer is now concerned that his vehicle has the problem as stated in the recall.

The contact owns a 2006 honda element. The contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v351000 (air bags). However, the parts needed were not available. The dealer did not provide a specific date when the parts would become available. The manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repairs. Also, the contact mentioned that the front and rear seat belts were connected to the doors which caused a safety concern upon entering and exiting the vehicle. The failure mileage was not available.

The driver's side seat rocks dangerously back and forth. I only weigh 108 pounds so it's nothing i have done to cause this. When i look online, thousands of element owners have this same complaint. It is pretty expensive to get the seat assembly replaced. I have driven hondas for 30 years and never had this issue.it began a year or so ago and has gotten worse!

My driver seat has been cracking and it is like the seat cover that it was made out ofwas dry rotted. I have talk to other honda element owners and they are having the same problem. Some with the driver seat, others with the other seat. So, it is not because the driver get in and out more, because it is not only on that side of the seat but the other side as well and back part on the sides. Just don't understand why alot of people are having the same problems with the seat covers as cracking and tearing.

Driver's seat rocks back and forth while driving and brakingmy mechanic said bushings worn/loose.he fixed it,but the problem came back.a technical service bulletin has been released by honda about this problem.a service adviser at a honda dealership could not help my problem without me paying a costly bill.what's next?

I was driving down my own driveway, when there was a very loud explosion to my right. After a moment, i realized the passenger seat side airbag deployed. There was nothing on the seat at the time. My right ear rang for quite some time after. Luckily, my dog was crated behind me. I rolled down the windows to dissipate the powder floating about. Honda, both the local dealer and corporate, have been less than helpful in this matter. I am just happy it happened in my own driveway ( which i almost drove off of) rather than on the major hwy i had been on the day before as i surely would have crashed.

Driver's seat is rocking back and forth.this creates a dangerous condition during driving as it may affect control of the vehicle.safety inspector also says that the seat may come loose -- therefore that virginia state inspector failed my vehicle during its annual safety inspection.all of these common complaints should be subject of a recall since the seat's design was faulty.this is evidenced by honda's tsb stating that an additional spacer should be added to the worn out bushings to prevent future occurrence of this incident.isn't that evidence that their design was defective from the beginning?nhtsa should likewise do its job by forcing a recall of these vehicles.would they rather have a consumer accident occur first before they do their job?

The contact owns a 2006 honda element. While driving at any speed, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. The contact attempted to brake, but the brake pedal would not release or move. Sometimes, the contact had to pump the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear passenger side abs sensor needed to be installed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Brake pedal losses pressure when press for a hard stop.

Window motor didnt let window go up.. Window went down n wasn't able to roll up.. Loud noise from driver window motor..my car was parked n when turn on car window dropped also power steering n knock sensor causing no pressure to move. Hesitation loss of fuel

Vehicle sustainedmultiple dents throughout the roof and hood from "simple" acorns falling from a tree.damage is unacceptable and was basically told by honda motor corp. That i "shouldn't" park under trees that damage my car.the car parked next to mine sustained "no" damage.no other cars seem to sustain this kind of damage.absolutely unacceptable structural "intolerance" on this vehicle.my seven previous cars never sustained "any" damage from acorns.i would never have purchased this vehicle, had i known it had such thin metal on its exterior.i was left high & dry by honda case management as well as by honda of danbury service department.i am very disappointed with how they were unwilling to help me with my situation.

I am located in ohio and the rear trailing arm has rusted out to the point that it is on the verge of breaking off on the passenger side. This was found out because i was driving and the car would sway back and forth in the rear every time i hit a bump in the road. I went to my nearest tire shop thinking it could be a wheel alignment issue and they brought me to the back and showed me the issue. It is being held by about 4-5 inches of the frame. They advised me to have the car towed as it was not safe for me to drive home. I have since not been driving the vehicle and have it parked in my garage. I'm aware that this is a recall by honda in canada which is a neighboring border to my state and a very common issue with a lot of us northern states in the u.s. Please advise what can be done as i love this vehicle but it is unsafe to drive on the road.

Right back seat window broke

We got a letter in the mail about the recall on the airbags. Air bag light always on. We have a knocking sound in the engine ,the driver door gets stuck, we have no a/c , one fan under the hood work, shocks missing up tires, battery die all the time, and have had problems with the car just cutting off at lights or when stoped by itself.

Our car, traveling at 40 mph was hit from the side at the left front, airbags deployed, significant damage to the left front.the tire and part of the axle were detached and about 10 feet from the car.the sheriff told us that he has seen this type of car in similar accidents where the tire and axel have detached from the car and found it unusual in this type of crash.

See honda safety recall no. R44. Pub nhtsa 2010-08-05 same issue as described. The interlock lever of the ignition switch may unexpectedly deform, which can allow the interlock function of a vehicle with an automatic transmission to be defeated. Removal of the ignition key when the gear selector of a vehicle with an automatic transmission has not been shifted to the park position can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash. Personal experience is that my car rolled while i was exiting the vehicle a few times before i figured out i was leaving the car in drive while exiting because i leave my foot on the brake until i jump out. This was scary and nearly disastrous, because with the car rolling backward, it is a dukes of hazard move to jump back in the car while getting impacted by the door, then launching into the seat and hitting the foot pedal brake. It is a frightening hazard, but the $800-1k to fix is a barrier to many people. I choose to always use the parking break instead of pay that much. I find this a frightening problem that is an absolute safety issue honda knows about and should fix.

After i had my local honda dealer complete the air bag recall for the second, my cruse control stopped working and my air bag light came on. I returned to the dealer and they stated that it had nothing to do with the replacement of my air bag and that they would have to charge me to diagnosis the problem. I paid for themto diagnosis, they said it was the seat belt buckle on the drivers seat and that it would cost over $350 and the throttle body would cost $810 to fix the cruse control. I did not pay them for therepair. They "reset" the light, but advised that it would probably come back on. They stated that while the light was on that my srs system would not work. So now i have a car i love, but am afraid to drive. Seems funny that the light never came on before i let the dealer touch my car.

Windshield on 2006 honda element chips very easily and cracks appear without any impact.

2006 honda element problems:i bought this honda because of the reputation for a solid car with very little maintenance issues.this car has had more maintenance issues than any other i've ever owned!1.driver's seat rock.the seat has rocked left to right since about 30,000 miles.i don't think i should have to pay $300 to fix a safety issue that honda obviously knows about.2.at about 60,000 miles the air conditioning stopped working-that was a $700+ repair for a new fan motor .3. I have gone through about 5 windshields in 90,000 miles.good thing i always get zero deductible glass coverage!the last wasn't even due to a crack, but because it became so pitted it was impairing visibility.4. This vehicle has a huge blind spot in the driver's left corner.i have had countless near misses-especially pedestrians in parking lots.the blind spot is large enough to block vision completely.

I noticed a horizontal crack in my honda elements windshield, about 7 inches in length on the passenger side, about halfway up starting at the right side pillar. I took it to the glass place and they said they could not stop it from spreading. I then noticed that another crack was starting on the left side half way up. The cracks have met in the middle almost touching. It has not been in any kind of accident.

Broken window regulator:we were refueling at the gasoline station when suddenly the glass of the window (front passenger side) fell down.culprit was broken window regulator.

The sun visor mount has loosened up over the last year or so.today, i pulled down the sun visor to block the sun and when i accelerated the entire thing fell on my face while i was driving, temporarily blocking my vision.the entire mount and visor came out of the ceiling of my car and fell on me.

Power window regulator on front left window had to be replaced 11/2009. Power window failed to go up, diagnosed as broken window regulator cable.5/2010 front right window failed to lift.seems to be same problem with power window mechanism.

I have a 2006 honda element.the last few months i've had to replace both power side windows because the window regulator 'came apart.'the car is only 3 years old and for both windows to stop working around the same time makes me think it's a manufacturing situation.

Honda element (2006) has a power window regulator failure, driver's side (front left). Diagnosed as a problem with the window regulator cable. Repair expected to be around $300 - $400 at a local repair shop ($500 plus at the dealership). This same honda element has a cracked windshield that spontaneously cracked while driving down a toll road with no other cars within20 car lengths and no visible rocks or other objects in the roadway. Honda accord (1998) has all four windows with power window regulator failure. Each repair is just under $500 with tax at the dealership.

2006 honda elementparked in driveway, no visible impact points day before.in the morning car had crack on passenger side, about 2-3 inches up, 3-4 inches long.dealer advised hit by stones at some point prior, leaving no mark at first but can later appear, but did cause crack.glass technician said stress crack from manufacturer.

2006 honda element windshield cracked without impact.dealer refuses to repair stating that this type of damage is "usually" caused by road debris.

A crack occurred in the windshield of my newly purchased honda element, in the lower passenger side.there is a small "pit" though i do not believe anything impacted the windshield.after reading many others complaints about the same issue online, i decided to file complaint.most people are being told their cracks are due to an impact and thus not covered under warranty.the windshield has not been replaced.

I purchased a certified 2006 honda element ex-p in march of 2007 from honda of fayetteville, ar. I drove the vehicle to springfield, mo and parked it in a garage.the next morning i found a 4 inch crack in the top middle of the windshield immediately behind the rear view mirror.in a day or two the crack became so bad that i had to replace the windshield.there was no apparent rock strike or other damage other than the crack.at the time i did not know that honda had settled a class action law suit alleging design defects with 2003 an 2004 honda elements.i did not report the damage to my insurance company because there was no external damage.i had the oem windshield replaced with a ppg windshield at my own expense.i drove the vehicle to our home in juneau, alaska and arrived last week.this afternoon while fueling the vehicle i noticed another crack in the windshield, this one starting at the top at the extreme right (passenger) side.this crack is now about 8 inches long, and will soon become a safety issue requiring replacement.honda does not seem to want to replace this windshield because only 2003 and 2004 honda elements were included in the class action law suit.obviously there is a design or engineering flaw in all elements, not just the 2003 an 2004 model years.in checking on the internet i found that this is a major problem affecting thousands upon thousands of elements.when i had the windshield replaced in springfield, mo., i was told that honda elements constitute a large portion of their workload, and that some element owners have replaced their windshields five or six times!honda has a real problem and should be held responsible to recall and correct this problem common to all elements.ak

On november 12, 2007, i noticed a horizontal crack in my honda element's windshield, about 7 inches in length on the driver's side, about halfway up starting at the left side pillar.i bought the vehicle new and it has not been in any kind of accident. I drove in to work and did not notice the crack. I did notice it when going to lunch that same day. The crack was clearly visible as it is in my direct line of sight. It literally appeared out of nowhere.
