On 7/27 i received recall notice (15v-320) from honda. I immediately (7/27, 1:26 pm) contacted sussman honda (215-657-7050) at 1543 easton rd., abington pa 19001, to make an appointment. I was given a 10:00 am appointment for aug 4, 2015. I was assured they had the necessary parts. When i arrived, i was turned away at the service entrance because, "they had just ran out of the parts". I was dismayed. I had expected that the parts would be reserved for my appointment. This incident wasted my time, energy, money and gasoline, and put me at additional risk for the dangers described in the recall notice.the service assistant took my name and phone number and assured me i would be contacted when parts became available, but gave no indication as to a time frame when that would happen.i expect that in the future, parts targeted for a specific customer (me, in this case) will be reserved for my appointment and this negative experience will not be repeated.

The srs dashboard light stayed on while operating the vehicle.the vehicle went into the honda dealer on 2/18/2013. The dtc code read by the technician was dtc 15-2 (faulty side airbag indicator circuit).the opds unit (occupant position detection system) was replaced on 2/25/2013.per the honda service bulletin 06-009, the vehicle vin number was outside the vin numbers for the 2004 cr-v's eligible for the extended warranty in the class action settlement.on 6/6/2013 the srs dashboard light again stayed on while operating the vehicle and was returned to the honda dealers. The mileage was 110,242. The dtc code detected was the same code as the previous visit, dtc 15-2.the opds sensor was determined to be faulty and it was replaced on 6/28/2013.since the last visit to the honda dealer, the srs light has not stayed on permanently. For your information, i purchased the vehicle new from the honda dealer in 2004.

Airbags did not deploy and i consequently hit the front windshield. Car was taken in 9/2015 to replace airbag. Have been receiving recall notices right after accident for airbag. Called regarding recall of 2004 honda cr-v. Manufacturer had no information about recall, couldnt tell me when recall notices were going out and referred me to nhtsa for more information.

Srs light comes on and stays on.faulty seat belt buckle switch.

Srs light came on and remains on. Dealer diagnosed problem as defective srs control module. Dealer says this part of the restraint system is not covered under any warranty. A call to honda's 800 number resulted in the same conclusion and no monetary assistance could be offered for a repair that would cost approximately $1000.00.

I was traveling at approx 55 to 60 mph on the fwy. I started to slow down when i saw 2 cars that were at a dead stop in my lane way ahead of me, they just sat there so i hit my brakes harder & my brakeslocked up. My car then went out of control and i tried my best to control it. I did manage to keep my car from rolling. My car was going back and forth on 2 wheels on the drivers side and the passengers side. I was also spinning and fishtailing and the back end of my cr-v (passenger side) hit the back end of the driver side of a sedan in the #3 or #4 lane. That impact sent my cr-v straight into the cement center divider of the freeway. I hit the center divider head on and went up and it felt like i was going to go over it onto the other side of the freeway but my cr-v came back down right in front of the center divider with the smashed up bumper facing the center divider. My cr-v hit the center divider hard enough for my body to bend the steering wheel back. Not one of my 4 air bags went off. I had this cr-v in the honda dealer 14 days earlier to repair the airbag recall (i have all of the paperwork detailing this) i have pictures of the injuries from hitting and bending the steering wheel. I also chipped 3 teeth. I have pictures of the airbag sensor and the bent metal around it. The chp officers, tow truck driver, the person that i hit and the body shop personnelall have the same question that do; the airbag should have gone off, why didn't it and why was i injured? i could have been killed. Honda has had several problems with this year and model of cr-v, yet they do nothing about them. The seat belts, & the airbags definitely malfunctioned.i have had 2 other similar problems with the brakes locking up on me and i think that there may be a problem with the brakes or wheels. This car needs to be looked at. I have never had any problems w/any of my 4 hondas past.

Having received our recall notice to replace the front driver and passenger air bag from the manufacturer, we contacted our local dealer today, 3/24/2015.we were denied information or deferred for questions regarding inflators used for the "side-impact" air bags which are built into the driver and front passenger seats (which may burst and cause injury to back, shoulder or spine).we were told parts may not be available for 4 weeks, up to 2 months.this seems unreasonable for an issue that may result in occupant death from a safety device designed to save lives.

The 04 honda cr-v is located on st croix in the us virgin islands. I havebeen trying to get the airbag replaced for two years. At present, thereare no dealers on island so honda kindly suggested that the car be repaired in puerto rico or fl!!! am i supposed to ship to via air or sea? sad...

Srs light recently and currently remains on in my 2004 honda crv. I took my vehicle to avalon honda nj dealer 2 times after speaking to them 3 times, they procastinated to obtain the part. I was informed they will get it soon and will cost me $693.00. After i performed a consumer research of the vehicle, this is a high safety alert issue that should be a priority for honda to announce to the public for road safety and consumer safety. Therefore, the consumer should not have to pay monies out of the pocket as this major safety item that should be guaranteed for the life of the car, not the consumers expense. This includes there life.

While driving 55 mph the consumer hit a deer in her 2004 honda crv.although the vehicle had front end damage the air bags did not deploy.the vehicle's throttle also became stuck. The consumer requested that honda consider this incident to change the design location of the throttle. *sc

I own a honda crv 04. I have taken in my car to the dealership four times to get the srs light fixed on my car. The light kept coming on indicating that the airbags were not working. Two of the times i was provided a rental car because the car had to be left over night or longer. The other two times it was fixed in a day, but the light came back on after a week after repair. Each time the car was taken in, the dealership had to restart the computer, which lead to some problems with the automatic windows and the lighter not working.have called honda and reported these problems, but nothing was done. These problems with the srs light have been going on since we purchased the car in jan. 04.

I have not been able to get recall work completed at honda cars of bradenton on my 2004 honda crv for over 4 months. I called on 12/11/14 to schedule an appointment and was told the earliest appointment was 2-13-15. Just prior to that appointment,i was contacted to inform me that the parts were on back order and they would call me when the parts came in.today is april 2, 2015 and i still have not heard from them.i have recently sold the vehicle and reported the new owner to honda.the new owner was made aware of the recall.it appears that a safety recall is not that important to honda.

The srs light came on in my 2004 honda crv. I visited the local honda dealer. Dealer advised srs light came on due to faulty opds(occupant position detection system) sensor. This sensor will turn off/on passenger airbag. This item is not covered outside the 3yr/36000 mi warranty. However, many 2002-2004 honda crv's were given a warranty extension for this problem. The extension covered up to 150,000 miles or 10 years. Honda checked my vin against their database and advised my vehicle was not affected. My vehicle has approx. 51,500 miles and will be 4 yrs old in october. The dealer advised if i desired the repair, it would be at my expense. I chose not to have the vehicle repaired at this time. I have searched the internet and have found other owners with the same complaints with this opds sensor. This opds system is not limited to the crv line; it is also found on many other honda vehicles. There are other years and makes which were given the warranty extension. I believe there is a problem with the opds system, and all equipped vehicles should be given the warranty extension. This system is installed as a safety feature and should not be subjected to the same warranty as the rest of the vehicle.

No " takata recall?" for my 2004 honda crv w/ faulty driver + passenger airbags?!this car shoulddefinately be on that recall list but is not!! why?! i purchased my 2004only 9 months ago from a dealer. I was traveling on a highway approaching a red light goingapprox 35- 40 mph when my 2004 honda crv hit the rear of another car. My driver airbag never opened to protect me yet my passenger airbag inflated!?ironically,i was alone with no passengers!both front airbags failed me & were faulty! i feel this is a major safety hazard and i was lucky to get out of my car alive!i don't know if fault lies wholly with honda and/or takaka or w/ the dealer who sold me this car? unfortunately,i now own an $8000 "totaled"crv sitting in a junkyard and i'm w/o transportation to my job!

Srs light illuminated on 2004 crv.theswitch in the left front seat buckle was found to have failed.the airbag system is inoperative due to failed switch.buckle must be replaced.warranty reads "a seatbelt that fails to function properly is covered for the useful life of the vehicle".honda will not accept warranty claim, since it is an srs system failure.

There is a recall on my car but when i called the dealer said they did not have info to tell me if my car is affected.

My name is [xxx] phone number [xxx] [xxx] then number to my vehicle also address on the vin number [xxx] id number [xxx] issued state of california [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

For the last 3 years we have had three (3) main issues with this vehicle, 1) air bag srs light has been on, 2) the front passenger window will not roll down and 3) the air conditioning system has not operated.from the begining i have checked on recalls/ campaigns for these items and the only recall we received for this vehicle vin # was the air bag recall (btw we took it in for the recal and the srs light is still on).when you look on honda's website to check for recalls no other issues come up with my vin#, yet if you look the vehicle up by the model and year, a whole list of "campaigns" come up under this vehicle.my vehcile has had the same problems as the said make and models for years.i filed a complaint with honda america (case # 04205532) this morning and spoke with "serinity" of the product concern section of honda america and basiclly she is telling me because my particilar vehcile was manufactured in japan (vin # starting with a "j") that no recalls apply to me.but yet i am having the same issues with my vehicle of the same model and year.honda basically has stated that they cannot offer any help on this matter.please note, there are other safety "campaigns" that i never got notices, such as wiring harnessess.i took my vehicle into a non-dealer mechanic for air-conditioning services and they stated to me 2 + years ago that this vehicle is known to have a major defect in the ac clutch on the ac pump was designed too close to the engine and thus heats up and shatters into many pieces and flows though the whole ac system thus requiring that the whole ac system is required to be replaced (honda service bulletin # 12-072).honda has issued a campaign increasing the ac system warranty to 10 years/ 100,000 miles, but again this does not apply to my vehicle, yet i have the same exact issues on my vehicle.please help on this matter.

Takata airbagsmy 2004 honda crv is listed on the takata airbag recall list. Please advise.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to have my air bags replaced since receiving notice of the recall.i called the dealer where i normally receive service on march 30, 2015 and was told the parts were on back order and they expected to have the parts in within 30 days.when i did not hear further from the dealer (landmark honda of alexandria,va), i called again on april 27, 2015 and was told that the parts are trickling in due to high demand and that they were calling owners and repairing vehicles as the parts came in.i inquired if there was a process for determining the order in which owners were being called such as a first come first served process or a waiting list.the service representative saidthat information was not available.i live in camp springs, md and i have a road trip planned for minneapolis, mn which is scheduled for may 10 to may 27, 2015.i thought that my car would've been serviced in time for this trip.clearly, i am concerned for the safety of my passengers and myself.i just read about the one day workshop which was convened on april 28, 2015 and i can tell you, that honda is not doing enough to provide parts for timely repairs and to ensure the safety of their owners.

Honda is not honoring their commitment to make service available for the recalls on this vehicle, which includes the takata airbag.i am attempting to make an appointment at my local honda dealer paragon honda in woodside, ny on 6/28.there are no service appointments available through the end of december.i had the same problem about two years ago when i attempted to speak to a person at the dealership.they have made this impossible.because i live in nyc it is not reasonable to commute to the next closest dealer because that would require bridges and tolls.this is unaccaptable.

My a/c system blow out hot air about 7day ago. Went to the honda dealership, the service told me the condenser and the compressor of the a/c system stop working. It would cost 3000 to fix.

Low beam headlights won't work, even though high beams do.

The door locks do not operate properly.you have to use the key in the drivers door to manually open it.the interior door lock switch will only unlock the front passenger door.you have to climb around inside the vehicle to open rear doors.to lock the doors you have to walk around to each door and open it to manually lock them to secure vehicle or crawl back through the vehicles interior to lock the doors.the remote can only open the front passenger lock even though you hear noises occurring trying to unlock the other doors.the remote is useless.this is not just an inconvenience but is a serious safety issue.

Both low beam headlights stopped working simultaneously.the connector to the headlight switch has melted preventing the switch from working.updated 06/10/11

Both low beam headlights failed simultaneously. Subsequently repaired at a honda dealer. Repair required a new hi/lo beam switch and connector/wiring harness. I requested old parts and upon inspection, one of the metal connector pins (male and female) was discolored (black) due to heating with some distortion and discoloration of the connector block due to heating. Attached wire also discolored due to heating.

2004 honda cr-v. Both headlight low beams stopped functioning at the same time. High beams still work on both headlights. Replacing headlight lamps and fuses did not fix the problem (both low beams still not functioning). I will be going to a mechanic this coming week to get repairs. I suspect it is a malfunctioning electrical switch.

Problem: sudden acceleration due to defective throttle body.the idle rpms are excessive upon startup and lead to sudden acceleration during braking to astop.background: malfunction lamp light was constantly turning on and off. Took the car to a honda dealership and they only found the error code for the o2 sensor. Later took it to a local mechanic to fix the o2 sensor and they found a defective throttle body (error code p0122). There are several forums which address this exact issue on 2002-2004 honda crv.

The air conditioner dash board of my 2004 honda crv stopped working one day, with no signs of problems before, the air was on and tried to turn it off and controls didn't work couldn't lower the level of air either, tried to moved the switch back and forward until finally stopped, but the problem continue for months until the point of not been able to turn it off;i have to turn off the engine so my a/c will turn off.engine light turned on one day and went off in a day or two then happened again like a month later turned on and then off in a couple of days , the problem continued for about 6 months was hard to get diagnose since by the time i was able to take it to check light got off, itgot to a point when engine light permanantly stayed on- i took my car to get that checked and gave a very generic code that not specifying the problem.

Both lowbeam headlights both stopped working at the same time.i replaced both bulbs but they still did not work.no fuses had burnt out, so started to research.after checking online, i opened the plastic casing to the steering column, and found that the switch had burned and the plastic melted.this is obviously defective wiring on the part of honda, otherwise the fuse for the headlights would have burned out before the switch could have.i find this to be a very important safety issue as this is the primary vehicle for my wife and infant son.updated 12/12/11 updated 12/13/11

Vehicle headlights low beam start failing on drivers side.burning out often - while other side headlight remained stable.replace headlights (both sides) many times after that - only to have the drivers side fail after about a year and a half.drivers side headlight would also change to very dim while other side remained bright.probably similar to a flashlight, - needing batteries.would always flick bright lights on for a while, or tug on headlight wire in engine compartment and light would change to normal bright color after this.when car was turned off, - the whole situation would repeat itself next time car started up and ran at night with lights on.noticed radio display panel would go out also, -- black out, only to come back on later.that would be the clock and station radio lcd panel display.had car problem fixed several times throughout the years, at least twice at private mechanics, twice at honda dealership, - plus recalled at honda dealership in 2012 for headlight wiring failure and problems, plus back in the dealership one month later in 2012 for same problem, plus back in dealership 6/9, 6/10, 6/11 2014 with same problem.after spending several thousand dollars over the years for various fixes, this time (2014) dealership once again has finally found the problem - wiring harness attached to engine firewall compartment bad.melting, corrosive, and wires with insulation missing in harness, - but another 1850 dollars would cover a new wire harness plus installation.paid 91 dollar diagnostic fee, picked up car and left.researched problem on internet and found many honda crv's from around those years with same problems.reported situation to honda and opened a case number with them.the latest case number being n012014-06-1100779, assigned 6/11/14 by honda.

My air conditioner condenser exploded. I turned on the air conditioner and at first hot air was coming through..then nothing. Took it to the honda dealer in manassas and they informed me that the air conditioner condenser exploded and there were small metal pieces throughout the line. They wantedover $4000 to repair it. They later counter offered to fix it for $2600.after i did research i found that this was a common problem for crv's 2002-2004. I was told not to drive the car because the condenser could lock up and cause other problems. I don't understand why i have to pay for something that is clearing a damage and defective piece of machinery that was installed by honda. This is my car that i need so that i can continue to serve my community as a volunteer and as a substitute teacher.

We were leaving a parking lot when we had to pull over and get out of the car. A very strong electric smell and smoke was coming from drivers side window area. We were all outside the car on a very busy city street because of this incident. After a while the smoke cleared and i went back into the vehicle to see if it would function. The rear windows were no longer functioning. Had a friend take the family home and drove the car myself home and parked it away from the house. Looked it up on the internet and found that a recall for the drivers side power window switch ( 12v486000 10/05/2012 2002 to 2005 crv )was made including 2004 crvmodels for this very issue. Contacted honda support to find out why we were not notified. According to honda support, our model is not covered because we have a different vin than the same year models that were recalled for the very same issue. This is a serious driving and fire hazzard!. I am very dissapointed this is not something they take serious. We are original owners and have never received notice of this issue. They say it is my expense because my vin is not one included in the recall for this very same issue of the very same year and model. Had to pay thousands for our air conditioner to be completely replaced shortly after we bought the car because of a later recalled issue with it that also was not covered at the time. Used to be honda believers, but this kind of treatment is not sitting well.

Faulty door locks causing the need to manually use the key and in the case of the rear doors - the inability to unlock from the outside. Issue started with one door lock (driver rear) and now has started on the drivers door. This is a permanent default as it now does not function.

Both lowbeam lights went out simultaneously while driving.

Passenger window got stuck about a week ago and delayed in rolling back up.once it rolled up i set the window lock button so it wouldn't accidentally happen again while having wet weather.yesterday, 1st sunny day,had rolled driver and front passenger windows down.parked and rolled up windows. When got back into car 10 minutes later, noticed bad smell and yellow smoke coming from main window control panel on door before even turning the ignition on.had to pull the fuse for the windows to stop it from smoking.this is the second time this has happened since i bought it off the lot.replaced part on may 21, 2011 and paid out of pocket.again honda is asking me to pay for inspecting and replacing of this problem.i should not have to pay for this!i return tomorrow night to pick up my car.

While driving on the freeway, i bumped my keys lightly with my right knee causing the car to suddenly switch off, and making steering difficult.i was able to coast off the freeway to a stop at an exit, and restart my car.it appears that the car switches off with even the slightest bump to the keys in the ignition.the problem appears to be similar to the current gm recall.

Was driving down the highway about two months ago, i was shocked or bolted and something went through my body. It was like an electrical shock.also, my door locks keep opening and closing while i am driving.its happened a couple times andit has scared me.i don't know if that would have anything to with the shock i received in the vehicle, and something keeps going off in my car, it sounds like a timer.i took it to honda, they know nothing about the sound i hear and since its not a manufacture warranty, i did send in the warranty to the radio and i thought the radio and the locks are connected on my vehicle for security purposes.been having medical problems, don't know if the shock could of contributed to it. I think i keep getting shockedevery time i drive it. The number of failures would be a number i wouldn't know since it happens everyday.

Submission from constituent re 2004 honda cr-v reimbursements.the consumer stated before he turned the vehicle on, there was a burning odor, emitting from the vehicle. He took the vehicle to the dealer, where the technician found the power window switch circuit board contacts were burnt. American honda was contacted, and they stated the vin was not included under recall 12v486000.

I have gone through 3 separate right low beam headlights in the past three years, got the recall notice for a short in the headlight system, had it fixed, and yet the right headlight keeps going out, even though the bulb is not burned out. Dealer has no idea what is wrong, and believes it to be a fuse issue. This car is absolutely falling apart.

Well my key is in the ignition i cannot lift or lower the passenger or rear passenger windows without blowing fuses. I have tried replacing fuses countless times the same issue happens. I have read and talk to mechanics that it is a master switch issue. A recall from honda is out for this current issue of the master switch: nhtsa # 20v-768. But for some reason my vin number is not associated with this recall. If you can please review this and get back to me because i need this issue fixed i cannot roll any of my windows down without blowing fuses i'm afraid it can cause overheating or fire i need this fixed. Also the car can be stationary in motion on the highway as long as the key is in the ignition on run the fuses will blow. Thank you

Nhtsa recall number: 12v-136 / service bulletin 12-023 - - the low beam headlights may become inoperative, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. The problem happens when parked or driving, city or highway travel.

Summary: while driving, the master power window switch overheated and began to emit a strong burning odor. Afterwards the left rear window failed to operate.since i initially did not know where the odor was coming from, i went to the dealer the next day to see if they could find the source of the odor but they couldn't. After sniffing around, i found the source of odor, the master power window switch. I had the dealer remove the fuse for safety reasons. The dealer said the window regulator had failed but i suspect the failed switch burnt out the window motor.i was worry that the car would catch on fire.

2004 honda crv - air conditioning compressor stopped working. Made loud popping noise. When i opened the hood you could smell smoke. I noticed sparks and smoke coming from the ac compressor. I bought this crv new in 2004 and had not had any problems prior to this. The honda dealer that i purchased this from says that it will cost $2400 to fix it as it basically needs an entire new ac installed. I searched the web to see if anyone else had this problem, and noticed that it is widespread. Will honda do a recall for this issue? i'm very concerned, as i also have a 2005 crv that i purchased new in 2005 for my wife and see that it is very possible that this could happen to that vehicle.

The driver and passenger side door locks have failed. I cannot lock my car with the key on either side. I can only open from the inside. I'm resorting to keeping my driver's side door unlocked (a very dangerous thing). I first was unable to open the driver's side and days later, the passenger side also stopped working.

Door actuators do not always work making it difficult to get in and out of the car quickly.

Car caught fire while parked. I did not receive a recall or warning notice.the electrical cables from driver door looks melted and fire spread quickly. Firefighters had to be called and they had to wet the car and disconnect the battery. This mode vehicle and year shows 5 open recalls, but when i search by vin# it shows no open recalls. I was lucky not to be driving the car.

I was going to drive to work this morning at 6:30am and my headlights would not turn on.my high beams worked fine but my normal lights did not.i had noticed a burning odor a few days prior through my vents.i took the car to my mechanic this morning and the headlight problem was due to an electrical malfunction and the wires had been melted that are associated with the headlights.thankfully i had not been driving at night time when this problem occurred.i had to get a kit to replace the wiring.this ended up being an expensive repair.

Power windows do not work

I was driving slowly in the summer when i smelled a burning smell of smoke in my vehicle. Within 5 minutes my air conditioner began to blow hot air.i took my vehicle to a reputable mechanic for inspection. They showed me with the vehicle in the air that there was a hole in the condensing unit of my vehicle. When i asked what could have caused it,they stated that the hole was blown in the unit from the inside out. I took my vehicle to a honda dealership for inspection after that. The mechanics there said that i must have run into a piece of metal. Then, off the record, they stated that many other owners had their ac's go out in the same way and that honda would probably be recalling them. I researched it a little at the time and got no-where with honda. Honda stated since my vehicle was out of warranty, they would do nothing. At the time i gave up...however, with additional replacements that i have had to make that are un-characteristic and untimely for a honda, and with additional inspections by both honda and non-mechanics...i was told that my entire engine assembly was put in sideways by design and that design causes multiple issues with multiple components. I actually had one reputable garage refuse to continue to work on my car because it was so poorly designed and difficult to work on. Sadly, i will never buy a honda again. And i have had 5 honda's prior to this one, bought this one new, and would have been happy enough had honda owned up to the problems.

Both headlights (low beam) went out simultaneously due to an overheated connection between the headlight switch assembly and wiring harness (plug).updated 12/12/11 pictures received 04/20/12

My window came down on its own today and there was smoke and a very strong burning smell. I had a mechanic look at the driver side front window and he stated the insides were melted because some wires were burning. I read online that this has been a problem for these vehicles.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. When inserting the key into the ignition switch, the key fob failed to start the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000.

Master power window switch on driver's door started to burn and i could see smoke coming out of the switch. The result was a melted switch. I have a japan made 2004 honda cr-v with vin # starting with jhlrdxxxxxxxxxxxx. By looking at the statement from american honda, my vin is not affected by the recall regarding the potential of fire at the master power window switch. What can i do? this is what happened to my car but it's not included by the recall.

Not an accident.just concerned that the same part had to be replaced in july 2011 and again in august 2013, and am concerned that this may be a safety issue, as the driver's window becomes inoperable.

While driving both dim headlights went out.i pulled over and realized the bright head lights did work while the dims no longer worked.after replacing both bulbs and realizing they still did not work. I investigated the issue and after visually inspecting the wiring harness that plugs into the combination switch (blinker/headlight control) there is obvious signs of heat damage and electrical corrosion.the low beam headlights did not work, due to an electrical short in the wiring harness. The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. The contact stated that the front driver's side door lock, power steering, and ignition switch malfunctioned. Wolfchase honda (2982 n germantown pkwy, bartlett, tn 38133, (901) 255-3700) stated that the door locks needed replacement, but there was no guarantee that this would remedy the failure. In addition, the power steering was leaking fluid, but the dealer did not know if it was the steering pump or hose. The dealer stated that they would have to disassemble the power steering to diagnose the failure. The contact was informed that the power steering may last until march. The contact also had difficulty placing all four keys in the ignition. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 160,000.

Because of the holiday, the insurance company will not look at the car until 11/29 or 30.i have no idea if it will be totaled or not.i'm concerned about residual effects from the fire affecting my respiratory problems.further, i' m concerned about getting another 2004 vehicle that may present with the same problem. Or, even a 2005, if the problem will exist in that as well.

The horn no longer works.the fuse for the horn has been checked, and is not the problem.this seems to be a safety issue that should be cover for the lifetime of the vehicle, similar to honda's seatbelt coverage.

While driving 65 mph engine started smoking and flames began coming from under the vehicle.

While driving at 5 mph vehiclecaught on fire.

I had driven about 61/2 miles when the drive light (light showing the gear you are using) went out and the car started to stall. The gear light came back on and the car continued to run. About 30 seconds later the same thing happened.i continued the 2 1/2 miles home. I called the honda dealership where i had purchased the car in aug. 2003, and explained the problem. I was told that it probably had something to do with the fact that i was very close to needing the 40,000 mile maintenance. I was told to drive it over the weekend and see if the problem persisted. My husband and i drove it to indiana like we had planned, to bring back some items from his grandmothers, garage. We had no problems on saturday, but on sunday just outside of ft. Wayne the engine light came on and the gear light went out. We took it to the honda dealer ship about 4 miles away. We left the car and rented a vehicle to get home. The honda mechanics had the crv for a week but could not find a problem. We picked the car up the following saturday and by the time we made it to the highway, the car was acting up again. We drove back to columbus pulling over ever 7 or 8 minutes to turn the engine off for 5 minutes. About half way home the car stalled at a red light. This happened several more times before we made it home. This problem has persisted over the last 10 weeks. It has been back and forth to the dealership. The thought that the problem had been solved when some wiring was replaced but the following day, the problems continued. Today is august 19th and it has been 11 weeks of headaches and stress.

We got our first oil change and afterwards my car started smoking really bad and the low oil light came on. When i called my boyfriend to come help me 15 quarts of oil later and 2 filters later, it was finally noticed the original o ring had melted to the block. The oil had sprayed all over the underside of my vehicle and started to burn. Had i not pulld over when i had my car probably would have caught fire. I pulled over just in time. My boyfriend seems to think that this happened bacause of where the position of the oil filter is basically it is to close to the exhaust manifold and the ring is getting to hot and melting to the block.

While driving at 65 mph consumer was warned by another motorist that the vehicle was on fire. Vehicle was pulled over, and the consumer stopped the engine.immediately, the fire was extinguished, but continued to smoke.once the smoke clearedconsumer could see thatthe wires in the engine compartment were melted.several news papers were running adds concerning faulty oil changes by honda mechanics.

My wife was driving down the road and the engine caught on fire.she was in town doing about 30 mph.the first indication of fire was smoke coming out of the hood.she stopped the car and got out.another motorist that stopped said flame were coming out of the right front side of the vehicle when my wife was driving down the street.the fire department said the car was totalled.i am waiting on the insurance company to look at the vehicle.the car was purchased in december 2003 - new.

While driving 10 mph a fire started under the hood. Consumer pulled over, and had the vehicle towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Had oil and oil filter replaced on june 16. Drove home, approximately 7 miles. Next day drove approximately 5 miles and car was totally destroyed by fire. Fire department put out fire.police filled out report.the honda had just over 3,700 miles and was purchased march 25, 2004.

On wednesday, june 9, 2004 my 2004 honda crv caught on fire after leaving dealership from having 1st oil change.i was originally told the problem was "the old o-ring/gasket was not removed and a new one added on top of old one".however yesterday when i went by to get things out of other car i was told it was an electrical problem that caused fire.dealership wanted to repair car and give it back to me, but i refused.after watching my car burn i just couldn't take it back....after several hours of discussion and to the point of me walking out and getting legal help, they gave me a new 2004 crv.the following week i find out from a co-worker that his parents who own a 2004 honda crv also caught on fire and was totally destroyed by fire.this couple in their 70's escaped unharmed. They had just had their 1st oil change day before.i have talked to american honda corporation and they assured me there were no problems with the cars but yet there are numerous complaints on websites talking about 2004 crv fires.even though i was given a new car i am now afraid of it and what might happen again.i am very concerned if there is a problem honda should address it before someone is injured or killed.

After having my first oil change and recalled part fixed, on my new 2004 crv, driving back to work, approximately 10 miles from dealership, my vehicle started smoking/fire.i opened hood and a witness told me to move from the car as flames were shooting out from under it.

After having an oil change, and while drivingblue smoke come from under hood, and fire erupted from under the carriage. Vehicle was towed to dealership.

I took my 2004 honda crv in for its first oil change.as the technician drove my car out of the service bay, smoke was coming out from under the hood.i went out to meet the technician and he opened the hood.smoke came pouring out and we noticed oil sprayed all over the engine.he said he was not sure why this happened, but he would clean it up and take care of it.30 minutes later, i had my car back and did not have any other problems.

While driving at night my low beams stopped working and i could smell smoke.it was very dangerous to just all of the sudden have your lights go out.i couldn't see and others couldn't see me.i turned off the light switch, and the smoke smell dissipated.my high beams still worked.i got online after the incident and realized that i was not alone with this exact type of problem.the problem has been isolated by several other cr-v owners as an electrical problem involving the wiring harness that plugs into the headlight/turn signal switch.in addition, i found an article stating that the nhtsa has opened an investigation of this problem (nhtsa recall campaign number ea11012) .a call to a honda dealership resulted in a very expensive quote to replace the whole harness (several hundreds of dollars).i feel that this particular problem is a safety hazard, and that honda should issue a recall to fix the problem.updated 12/19/11

While driving at an estimated speed of 20-25 mph vehicle rolled over a patch of ice, affecting direction control. Driver by instinct hit the brakes which caused the vehicle to go into a 360 degree spin.as the driver tried to regain control the vehicle headed toward a parked semi truck, andcollided with the truck head on.upon imact, neither dual air bags deployed.

While decelerating on a highway exit ramp, i heard a large whirring noise coming from the right side of the engine compartment.then a large bang from the engine compartment followed by a thumping noise which started in the engine compartment and ended bouncing underneath the body over several seconds.stopped the car and looked underneath and on the road, but could not find any belts or material.took the car into a honda dealership who informed me that the ac was completely destroyed.the estimate to fix was over $4300 for the complete system which over $3000 was in parts.they informed me the banging noise was the compressor clutch locking then flying apart sending pieces through out the engine compartment.there was no mention of a thorough inspection of the rest of the engine or body for damage from the flying debris of the broken compressor clutch.the dealer indicated the alin honda class action lawsuit was not settled and could not give estimates of possible payments.

I was driving through my area at or near 15 mph. When the car suddenly accelerated on its own to a speed of 30-35 mph. The brake pedal felt very stiff and was difficult to hold the car at 30 mph with constant braking. There was no traffic and the incident occurred not far from my home, so i proceeded back home. The car would not decelerate. I have a very long driveway that i pulled into, put the car in neutral, turned off the key and pulled the emergency brake. There was a loud grinding noise as the engine wound down. I immediately contacted the dealership where the car was purchased and told them what happened. They sent a tow vehicle to pick up the car since it was not safe to drive it to them. They said they drove the car multiple times and performed diagnostic tests on the vehicle finding no problems after having the car for three days. The invoice however showed identical mileage in and out of their facility when it was picked up jan. 2, 2014.on feb. 11, 2014, i was in traffic stopped at a red light, my right foot pressing on the brake pedal. Without warning the engine revved, the brake pedal stiffened and the car lurched forward hitting the rear of the vehicle in front of me, doing damage to both vehicles. Both the dealership and honda of america have been notified and a claim has been filed. Research shows that this is not an unheard of complaint oroccurrence for this make, model, year vehicle as evidence buy complaints to you.this vehicle has been meticulously maintained by the dealership and i am the original owner and only driver. This is my first accident in over 50 yrs of being a licensed driver.

Ac compressor stopped working. Honda dealer said the compressor is cracked.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that a sensor for the catalytic converter also illuminated. The contact also stated that the front passenger's side door lock seized. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000. Consumer stated engine light comes on and off continually. Just had brakes fixed- broken pads, now light is on again, trim around windshield blew off... 50,000 miles light in interior fell down ( it is rotted). It is a lemon with apparent electrical problems, sensors on all the time. Updated 05/31/18

Thunk noise from engine on passenger side.worse with turning, happened intermittently at all speeds. Dealer said "something" was not tightened properly, muttering about engine mount. I was not given a service record for the repair and am in the process of trying to get one after the fact. At the same time hear a grinding noise that was not resolved. Cr-v at repair shop now and said it looks as if air compressor, clutch and fans for ac are not right. If not resolved will blow and damage engine.i have searched and found this is an alarmingly common problem. Is there any move to investigate or initiate a recall?

The contact owned a 2004 honda cr-v. The contact stated that while her son was driving approximately 70 mph, smoke was suddenly seen coming from under the hood. After stopping the hood was opened and flames were present coming from the engine compartment. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. An unknown report was filed. The contact was unsure if it was the fire department or police department. The contact mentioned the vehicle was serviced at inver grove honda (4605 s. Robert trl, inver grove heights, mn 55077) weeks before the failure. The cause of the failure was not determined. The contact stated that the vehicle was deemed a total loss. The dealer was notified of the failure however, no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 198,000. *ln

My cr-v ex was serviced by the dealership i bought it from. The engine, cat converter, and cv-boot needs to be replaced, because the engine has a server oil leak internally. This oil leak my also cost me a transmission. These issues cost over $8,400.00 and counting. I only owned the car 66 days before i was told that the engine is junk. A firmly believe that the dealership owes me my money on this issue, because it was brought to there attention less then a week after i purchased this car.

My vehicle is been consuming very large amounts of oil, every 450-500 miles i have to add a quart of motor oil.

I was driving along ,the car started making a noise like an airplane ,i pulled over ,there was an explosion in the engine compartment. On inspection it was found that the air conditioner compressor had a catastrophic failure. The job involved replacing the compressor, the condenser,receiver/dryer,expansion valve, contaminated drive belt, complete flush of the system, evacuation and recharge of system. Quite a costly repairat $2737.02 there have been many complaints filed on this issue, and although it was not a safety issue, unless it had happened at speed on a busy freeway , it was clearly a defective component, that so many crv owners have experienced.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. While stopped at a traffic light, there was a sudden increase in engine rpms and the oil and battery warning lights illuminated. The failure recurred multiple times. The dealer diagnosed that the imrc valve was at fault and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. Updated 01/09/15*lj updated 9/6/2017

This is a general complaint about the 2003-04 engine fires in the honda cr-v.there needs to be a recall on these vehicles asap.i am a brand new owner of a 04 cr-v and i feel very unsafe in this vehicle.what could be more dangerous then a fire.please act promptly.see 10099806 also.*dsy

On may 29, 2004, i purchased a honda cr-v, 2004, vehicle from casey honda in newport news. It is a four-wheel drive vehicle with automatic transmission. I had the vehicle for only two weeks and i only drove it 109 miles. The odometer right now shows 117 miles. On june 13, i was driving the vehicle in newport news, va when suddenly the engine stopped in the middle of the road, in front of the stop traffic light. There was a burning smell coming out of the hood and the check engine light came on. When i turn on the engine the tachometer show 1000 rpm, then 3000 rpm and then back again to 2000 rpm. Thus the tachometer shows an unstable running engine when the transmission is on the neutral or parking position. I was able to start the engine after a few minutes and get home which was fortunately only a mile away. On june 14, 2004 i contacted the casey honda dealership and they sent their representative to tow away the vehicle. The odometer showed 117 miles. The same day the dealership serviceman, mr. Kevin, called me and told that the vehicle is not drivable and that they have to keep the vehicle for about a week until the parts will arrive and they will try to fix it. He told me that the causes of the problem are some defective parts that they need to replace.

The vehicle leaked oil onto the engine manifold.the consumer noticed a pool of oil under the vehicle.in taking the vehicle in to get serviced the mechanic found that when getting the previous oil change the technician never removed the old oil filter gasket and placed a new gasket over the old one.when the engine got hot the oil leaked between the two gaskets.*tcsee odi 10092496 also.*dsy

Air compressor failure.could have caused an accident.still in the shop for repairs.

2004 honda crv air conditioner - was driving down the interstate and heard whistle, followed immediately by what sounded like popcorn popping.i took the car into the dealership and said that my compressor had exploded and that i need to replace the compressor, condenser, clutch and coil (when the compressor explodes, it send metal shards through the system)t for a cost of $2100.i have looked into this issue on the internet and have found that this is very common for this vehicle to contact honda usa customer service.when i called them, they said that it was unfortunate, but it is no longer under warranty as my mileage is approx 63k miles, and that i needed to speak to the dealership to see what they could do.currently, there is one site collecting data to form a class action lawsuit and numerous sites with countless accounts of the exact same issue - the compressor exploding usually between 40k-70k miles on model years 2002-2005, with multiple individuals having to have their units multiple times.

I can not believe that honda will not recall there 2003-2004 crvto prevent a fire or loss of life happening to someone. Nor can i believe that your organization will allow this practice to go on.i have recently purchased my car, hoping for a piece of mind, yet i am constantly worried that i or my 2 year old son will not be able to get out in time. That is a pretty high price to pay. *la

About 2 weeks ago my honda cr-v 2004 stalled in a car wash and wouldn't start.after about 20 minutes i was able to get it started.since then my cr-v has had trouble starting.i've also noticed my heater not working as effectively and just recently the car started to over heat.i took it to the mechanic immediately.after a day they said i had gotten water in my gas tank and a water bubble in my coolant system.they flushed everything out, dried it and replaced my coolant.so far my car seems to be running smoothly again.

The a/c compressor in my 2004 cr-v "blew up" and stopped working on may 2, 2009. A local honda dealership replaced the part on may 5, 2009. The vehicle only had 62k miles on it. The dealership said there were issues with earlier models of the cr-v, but that honda had changed the type of compressor in the 2004 models. However, there are a lot of blogs on the internet devoted to a/c compressor issues with the cr-vs, including the 2004 models. Although the dealership wrote off part of the replacement cost as warranty coverage (only after i filed a complaint with honda), i feel that there should be a recall of compressors in 2004 model cr-vs and any repairs paid for by customers refunded.

The consumer was driving on the freeway going approximately 60 mph and suddenly the dashboard illuminated in red and smoke was coming from the engine compartment. The consumer pulled over and called for assistance. The consumer was informed by the fire fighter that there were nuts and bolts missing from the engine.owner later called the dealer and was told to have the vehicle towed to the dealer. The consumer was informed that there would be a few changes made to the engine and the vehicle would be there for a couple of days.provide further details.

Honda cr-v(2004) a/c compressor:i was driving down the hwy and it sounded as if i had a flat tire, at that point my a/c stopped blowing cold air.i continued driving, thinking that i had to get my a/c recharged.then i heard a loud clunk, swerved off an exit (my steering wheel locked up) and my car began smoking.i pulled into the nearest parking lot, and discovered that the serpentine belt was broken.the belt broke b/c the compress had exploded, causing the clutch to lock up.the cost of the repair was $1400. The whole system had to be replaced: condenser, compressor, expansion valve.

Loud rattling noise from engine upon starting the vehicle; had cr-v towed to lia honda in enfield, ct; lia said either engine fire or misfired spark plug - couldn't tell for sure, but that it shouldn't have happened and that i did nothing to cause it; machine shop is investigating to determine if cylinder head, which was melted, can be repaired, or if replacement is needed; checking for additional engine damage; investigation by lia is underway - so unsure how this will end.

Clutch on air conditioner broke off resulting in contamination of other systems. This is a well known problem with this vehicle. I feel this should be a recall due to the numerous problems with this a/c.

When driving vehicle stalled.consumer contactedthe dealership on two separate occasions, but the problem still occurs.dealer refused to tell consumer the specific defect on vehicle.*la

The oil was changed in our 2004 honda crv and then as my wife was driving there was a massive oil leak causing the car to shut off in the middle of i270 with traffic wizzing by a speeds over 70 mph.my wife was fortunate that the car did not catch fire or that she did not get hit from the rear.

This is not so much a safety issue as a financial one. It seems that bits or metal go through the compressor.ac was repaired by (bailey) dealership under/at 24,000 mil. Now at 76 k, ac went out again. Dealer (momentum) wanted $4,010. To repair but honda offered to pay 1/2 leaving my share to be $2,005. Too much.i had compressor, etc replaced elsewhere for much less and was told there was no oil in the compressor. I would like this info. Sent to the honda manufacture.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While driving oil leaked from the vehicle all over the highway. Had vehicle towed to the dealership. They replaced the gasket on the vehicle.

On april 25th, 2009, the a/c compressor in my 2004 honda cr-v ex imploded, sending metal shavings throughout the system and requiring a complete replacement of the system at a cost of $3500.there were no noticeable events prior to the seizing of the compressor.other than this was the first warm day of the season (@85 degrees).the dealer is refusing to pay for the repair, despite the frequency of similar reports across the internet.we have done all factory scheduled at the dealer and have taken very good care of the car.

It was just 2-3 weeks after purchasing my 2004 honda suv when the first story came out on the washington post about the crv's bursting into flames. I was told by honda that i could no longer take the car back i would have to try to re-sell it and take the loss myself. Here i am getting close to to the 5000 mile, which will be my very first oil change, and i see another follow up story on the washingtron post regarding the same thing. And still nothing being done about it. Depending on some emails and letters being sent by honda is not resolving the issue. I am completely afraid of getting my first oil change, especially when i see that other consumers are taking their crv's to the honda dealers and the problem still occurs. What guarantee do i have? how safe am i suppose to feel when the honda dealers still don't do the oil change right? i am in awe that your organization is waiting for a high death toll to finally do something about it. How many deaths will it take for you guys to wake up and tell honda to do a recall? how many lives have to be taken for you to see that this is of high importance? i am scared of even parking my car in the garage after my first oil change. It absolutely ridiculous that you and honda are trying its best to save thousands of dollars and prefer to risk thousands of lives. And yet, the consumer is stuck with the problem and footing the bill if that occurs. I'm surprised i haven't heard of any lawsuits. It's to time to take action. I am completely dissapointed with honda and regret ever purchasing my vehicle from them. They have not come forth for the consumer. I hope the next time i write to you is not because i'm having to complain and write a detailed report of the same thing happening to me.

Please visit this link as it shows hundreds of complaints about the same issue: http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tu0okfjgv9v3f3fgl/p16#lastpost.honda is selling a faulty air compressor and they are charging thousands of dollars to fix it.a loud bang occurs, which throws metal fragments that mechanics say could seize the engine, then the air conditioner blows hot air.some of these compressors have gone three and four times per vehicle. American honda does not offer to recall the part; instead, they only pay some of the charges to repair the problem if the customer tells them they know about this faulty part.everyone is being charged different prices for the same problem, and most of these break downs are happening on practically-new vehicles!please visit that link and look at some of the complaints.someone has to help about this.thanks much.

While driving from southern california to northern california, the ac was working just fine when a high pitched squeal started coming from the engine. Lifting my foot off the gas seemed to help and the noise went away, but the noise came back, and a thumping sound started to come through and a small pop happened, sending some sort of black canister shooting out from under my car and onto the freeway. I pulled over and checked the car for damage, not seeing any major marks on the engine and no liquids leaking from the car. Only when i reached my destination and the car would blow boiling hot air out of the vents did i notice and issue. The dealer did an inspection of the car, and told me the ac had literally fallen out of the engine block. I don't understand how a major piece of a vehicle can fall out, and not be able to be replaced without paying $2,000.

While the vehicle was positioned at the stop sign consumer noticed black smoke coming from under the hood, and smelled something burning.passing by driver came to get the consumer out of the vehicle. Consumer turned the vehicle off and stepped out of the vehicle. Within a 2-3 minutes the fire went out on its own.vehicle was towed to the dealer, who informedconsumer that the fire was due to oil leaking from the oil filter seal onto the manifold.

2004 honda crv. Air conditioner failed at < 72,000 miles. No other issues with the car. But no one can drive it. I have ms and we're on a fixed income, so i can't afford to get it fixed. Because of the ms, i can't take heat. I opened a case with honda, but they want me to have the dealer look at it first. That would cost close to $80. Not possible right now.

While driving at 45 mph vehicle stalled.this caused aloss of steering and brakes. Vehicle was taken to the dealership, andmechanicdetermined to replace the oil pump.

Dt:the caller said while drivingvehicle stalls. It happens at any speed and without warning. After struggling to get it off the road it will start back up. This has happened twice. Dealer said they couldn't duplicate the problem ,there was nothing they could do. Manufacturer said they will have someone look into it and be a go between the callerand the dealer.

Check engine light came on. Brought the car to the dealer. Was told the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced (sensor #1) at a cost of $498.

I was on my way home from work, less than 2 miles from home.i stopped at a stop light and noticed smoke. I didnt' know it was my car at the time. I drove a half a block and my car filled up with smoke. I immediatly pulled over and a person behind me stopped and told me she saw flames from my car. I had immedialtly turned my car off as soon as i parked it, so i did not see the flames. An additional man drove up and said he had seen the fire also. Oil had poured out from under my car. I had just had my first oil change on monday aug 23rd. I have approximatly 5500 miles on the vehicle. It is a 2004 honda crv.my dealership (chezic sayers) had the vehicle towed by campus towing. The tow truck driver told me that that was the third crv that he had towed with fire damage in the last 3 months.(his name was phil) i think there should be a recall if this has happened this many times. I also looked up on the internet and it said that there had been 27 fires linked to oil changes in this vehicle. I find that appalling. I could have been seriously hurt! as of right now, i am not sure of the cause because it was after 5pm by the time the dealership looked at the car. They said they would call me tomorrow.i am assuming someone will call me to find out what the exact problem was and to find out how it was handled.

2004, honda cr-v caught fire after first service. No prior warning. This happened today. Honda hade consumer's vehicle, and kept it for next day. Sometimes, not sure what outcome will be. Saw programon internet msnbc about thisproblemrelating to oil filter failure.

Consumer filed complaint because she was upset about getting anoil change.she was afraid to drive. Dealer will replace the vehicle atconsumer's expense.

Vehicle stalled intermittently.consumer took vehicleto the dealer for inspection, andmechanic informed consumer that the problem could not be duplicated.consumer advised the mechanic that oil changes couldcause a fire.see 10100386 also.*dsy

Air conditioner blowing hot air. Took it to pep boys and said that the compressor died and needed to be replaced. I have a 2004 honda and only 38k miles. Read on blogs that the ac is a major problem.

My 2004 honda crv ignited and burst into flames. This occurred the same day as the first oil change. Mileage was 5,400.

As new owner of cr-v after read so many complaint regards the engine fire after oil change, i decide to file a complaint to honda for its irresponsible/ineffective actions to prevent engine fire. It is hard to believe that so many fire cases even up today, yet honda still did not want to recall or take real action to fix the problem. It is very scary to image the worse case - if you got the engine fire in one lane highway in the mountain area, there is no signal for cell phone to call 911 too. It is also dangerous to walk or even stay in that type of highway. Owner of cr-v have no peace of mind to drive it after oil change. Especially some engine fire occurred two months later after oil change based on complaint case. Honda should fix the problem. Honda should not just lay the responsibility down to technician. Why only cr-v caught fire? not pilot? not suv from other makers? the engine fire cannot be simply explained by the sloppy job of technician performed as it happened/happens at different states in us.nhtsa, please open the investigation again as number of engine fire are increasing across us. Please give consumer safe suv as it should be.

The vehicle was on the road going 60 mph when all of a sudden heard like a explosion sound and it made usscared and made us nervous to drive it we have put 3 compressors total. 2 compressor alone and another compressor with the whole things like fans, radiator, for air conditioner hose, etc, everything. Very costly and regardless it has the same problem not working. I don't know if its a safety issue but it should be because i think if it makes that explosion sound that stuff comes out to the air. Honda errors are costing the consumers a lot of money it should be a recall and fix and refunded if possible. I brought this car in 2006 and will not purchase another one. Please if anything can be done so that honda find a solution to this black death issue that's what the complainers and mechanics are calling it. I would be so grateful with this economy its such a hardship. And living in florida the heat is unbearable. Thank you for your time and effort.

We purchased the 2004 honda crv in february '04. It had 3500 miles on it when the oil was changed at holler honda in winter park, florida. The following week we drove it to williamsburg, virginia on vacation. While there, with my 81 year old mother-in-law and 2 sisters-in-laws in the car, we experienced what so many others have reported. Passing cars honked their horns and screamed at us that our car was on fire. That was on july 29th. We are now back home in orlando and the car is at williamsburg honda in virginia. I am now terrified to drive a honda crv. I don't want the car back. I want my money back so that i can go buy a car that i'll feel safe driving. It has been 8 days and holler honda won't talk to me. They told me to have my insurance company deal with their insurance company. I guess i need to engage my lawyer and the tv stations.

I recently bought a new 2004 honda crv on june 27, 2004.about a month after i bought it i was informed not only of this website but of the fires that everyone is complaining about after they get their oil changed.i can't believe that a large corporation like honda is allowed to get away with this.or how a safety recall has not been issued yet.why is it we have to wait for someone to get killed before something is done?soon i will have to have my oil changed and that is terrifying to me.how about the next time and the next time i have to have to have my oil changed?is this something that can happen whenever the oil is changed throughtout the life of my car?do i just pray i get a service technician that knows what to do?as the nhtsa you need to take a closer look at this.

At 4500 miles, i brought my car in to get the oil changed.after i had driven home from getting my oil changed, i noticed a burning smell, and i found oil leaking from my car.at first it was leaking about 20 drops a min, and then the next day, it was only leaking 15 drops a minute.i took my car back and had it inspected the next day, but they couldn't find any reason why my car was leaking oil.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v.while attempting to turn the vehicle into the driveway at approximately 5 mph, it shut off without warning.the failure previously occurred while driving 40 mph.the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure and no parts were replaced.the failure mileage was 77,000 and current mileage was 78,894. Updated 3/16/09 updated 03/18/09.

As i was driving, without warning i heard a loud "metalic" noise that sounded as though i had run over something. As i was seeking a place to turn off of the road, the sound stopped for a few seconds then returned.at that time, i lost my power steering and had difficulty pulling off to a side road that i found several hundred feet from where the incident occurred.when i got out of the car, i noted that there was a chunk of metal protruding from the bottom of the car near the passenger side front tire.when the car was finally towed to a honda dealer, i was told that the air conditioner compressor had exploded!i understand wearable parts breaking but exploding!i was within a mile of approaching an on-ramp to a 3-lane highway and shudder to think of what would have happened had the explosion occurred on the interstate!beyond the inconvenience and cost (approaching $2,000), this type of catasrophic incident is extremely dangerous. The explosion caused me to lose full control of my vehicle and most definitely could have caused a very serious accident.

Air compressor in a 2004 honda cr-v blew, shooting metal shards all over the place. This is a known problem, yet honda has not issued a recall.

Having just had the first oil change performed on my 2004 honda cr-v, i was only a few blocks away from the dealership which performed the oil change (hanover honda in hanover, pa) when smoke started pouring out from under the hood and through the air conditioning vents.i managed to get the vehicle off the street and the ignition switched off within seconds of the low oil warning light coming on.i was told by the assistant service manager that it appeared the oil filter was defective.after hearing reports in the news (on july 9, 2004) of other cr-v owner who experienced fires in their vehicles that seemed to originate with the oil filter, i wanted to file this report with nhtsa.

I have a 2004 honda cr-v ex with almost 69k miles. I have always maintained my car to the gills and just yesterday my a/c compressor blew up, leaving metal shards all through my ac lines. The pulley and clutch (ac clutch) were also destroyed, leaving me with a 2100 dollar estimate. I have done a lot of research online about this issue and it seems that it is happening a lot in the 2002-2004 models. I have also read that they knew the part was faulty and still continued to install it. This is not normal wear and tear and the part has since been redesigned. I have only gotten an estimate, i refuse to pay for this damage when it is clearly honda's fault. There has been a class action lawsuit filed against this problem and if i can find a way to add my name, i will do it. Lack of ac can lead to heatstroke and other health problems. Also, the ac is needed in the winter for the defroster, and i can clearly see a foggy windshield leading to accidents. Honda needs to address this issue as soon as possible and own up to the fact that this part/problem needs to be recalled.

2004 cr-v experienced grinding noise with ac unit the clutch assembly froze all occurred within two days.repair was completed that required the entire ac system, compressor, evaporater and condenser were replaced.all occurred at 72,000 miles.total cost of repair at non-dealer location using all new parts $1,059 dollars.first honda i've ever owned that needed a costly repair.then again this on is assembled in england not usa of japan.

My honda crv-ex 2004 went on fire on the highway. Total loss. Insurrance covered some of the personal lost items and some of the car rental cost. Honda refuses to cover the difference (just doesn't answer). I called, faxed and mailed my itemized request.thank you for your help and understanding, victor prutu

I own a 2004 honda cr-v. While driving approximately 70 mph, the air conditioner compressor exploded. The vehicle was taken to honda service center and iwas informed about the compressor failure. The vehicle was repaired the failure mileage was approximately 65,000.the repair coasted about $ 1800.

I have a 2004 honda cr-v. I had my ac on and it began to grind. At first i thought it was my motor, but soon realized it was my air conditioner unit. I took it to the honda dealership, and they checked it out. Cost for the diagnostic - $106.00cost to fix it: $4000.00diagnosis:a/c compressor failed. All the a/c parts are internally contaminated with metal from the compressor. Needs a/c kit (c) and clutch and coil.i have been checking online and many 2003 and 2004 honda crv's have had this problem, but no recall. I don't have that money to spend, yet need air conditioning. Is this fair for honda to ignore this issue and cost their faithful customers so much money when this problem did exist in those year models? can you help?

I'm the first owner of a 2004 honda crv with a 5 speed manual transmission.from june 2008 to the present (september 2008) the vehicle has experienced a stall problem during every single use.current vehicle mileage is 115,000.all the stalls occur during the same period relative engine startup, between about five and ten minutes after starting the engine, and when the vehicle comes to a stop.this stall period basically occurs at stop signs for a multi-minute period after the choke comes down.unfortunately this stall period coincides with typical stop and go driving after departure: near home, workplace, schools, and retail outlets.i consider this a safety concern.the stall occurs suddenly and without warning.power steering and braking systems become difficult to use.i have narrowly avoided a number of accidents while trying to recover from a stall.the vehicle often does not start back up immediately after stalling.i'm concerned the starter will degrade and further inhibit timely restarting.repair efforts have been unsuccessful.an independent shop and a honda dealer have been tried.the honda dealer in exeter, new hampshire, blatantly avoided the problem and charged about $600 for unrelated work that was also not ordered.apparently the diagnostic computer reported a voltage drop.the independent shop has attempted to determine the problem at three separate occasions.spark plugs and wires have been changed and other regular maintenance has been completed.an immediate fix is desired for this 2004 honda crv stalling problem.my young family is put at an elevated risk every time we drive somewhere, we cannot easily sell a vehicle in this condition, and we cannot afford to buy an extra vehicle.

The honda cr-v truck has an air conditioning compressor that is a safety hazard and they refuse to do a recall on it, even though mechanics repeatedly say that the metal fragments it throws after it breaks can cause an engine to seize.there are hundreds of complaints about this at this link.http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tu0okfjgv9v3f3fgl/p16#lastpost. There are many posts before this page; i sent the link to the last post. There was no accident in my case, but they're going to wait until someone gets killed, then they'll do the recall out of fear.honda will not do a recall on this, but they are refunding money only if customers tell them they know about this problem.otherwise, they charge $800-$2500 for this faulty part of theirs.it is criminal!thanks, if you can help.

While driving the engine started leaking oil from the area around the oil filter.the oil leaked onto the hot engine which resulted in smoke.*sc

Oil change to 2004 honda crv resulted in the predecessor of a fire. As soon as i started the car, a customer came running out pounding on my window. There was oil spewing out the bottom of the car. I had just read the washington post article regarding recent fires to crv's after oil changes. I showing the article to the technician and he assured me eveerything would be fine. To no avail. This is more than just shoddy mechanics work. Too many of these vehicles are having this problem. Including me!see odi 10083308, same vin.*dsy

A thousand miles after the first oil change vehicle caught on fire while driving at 60 mph.the fire was due topoorly installed oil filters. Dealer was replacing the vehicle without resistanc.

Air conditioner began to rattle, then ruptured and fell off while driving down highway, sending debris out on the road in the path of oncoming traffic.

A/c unit started to make loud noises and would not cool.*ln

Honda crv 2004, ac defective, 82,000 miles just quit working.

We purchased the vehicle as a honda certified vehicle in oct 2007, with 47,250 miles.on sept 7, 2010, while driving on the freeway, my 19 year old daughter (who drives the vehicle at college) heard a loud bang and the then the air conditioner began blowing just hot air.upon hearing the circumstances, i told my daughter to drive the vehicle home from college.we took the vehicle to our independent auto repair shop where he diagnose the problem as a blown a/c compressor.we had the repairs completed in one day at cost of $757.00 and my daughter was back at college the next day.the old part is available if needed but the mechanic will only hold it for one week.

My a/c compressor exploded at around 47,000 miles sending shards of metal throughout the entire cooling/heating system. I was told it would cost about $3000 to repair. That is not a case of normal wear and tear. The part is faulty. It exploded. Honda says it's not their fault, sometimes parts wear out.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v.while driving approximately 30 mph, the contact heard a loud revving noise that did not stop until the engine was turned off.the following day, the contact activated the air conditioner and heard a loud rattling noise coming from the front end of the vehicle.the air conditioning system eventually failed.prior to the failure, the contact did not notice any warning lights illuminated on the instrument control panel.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the clutch on the air compressor failed.the repair would cost $1,500.the contact is in the process of having the vehicle repaired.he called the manufacturer and is waiting for a response.the failure and current mileages were 41,000.

I own a 2004 honda cr-v. It has just 51,000 miles on it. Air conditioner compressor started making rattling sound . I understand if it breaks apart as it normally does, it sometimes can stop the motor if you were going slow enough. If you were on snow, it could skid the tires or the belt could break or maybe slip. The serpentine belt is very strong so there are times when this very well could be a safety issue.

Driving on highway and a/c quit working....compressor had to be replaced quoted $1400 to replace...honda what is going on with all these???

The air conditioner and all components stopped working suddenly - i have around 110,000 miles on the crv.the dealer says the whole system needs to be replaced due to metal and contamination in the lines, cost is around $2200.00.i see this is a common problem with crv's.why is there no recall?i think we should get it replaced for free.

9/20/06 42,620 miles; 7/16/08 67,743 miles; 8/07/09 81561 milesr & r compressor and condenser blew up.

Air compressor failure.could have caused an accident.still in the shop for repairs.

Defective coolant systems.

Just pulled off freeway when i heard a whistling noise and then a loud kathunk.the air conditioner immediately stopped pumping cold air.went to honda dealership and was told that there had been a catastrophic failure of the air conditioning system.they admitted it was a known honda problem but stated that honda wasn't doing anything about it.quoted me $1,200 and said i was lucky that it hadn't contaminated the entire system.

Air conditioning failure on 2004 honda crv.working fine, suddenly stopped cooling.told i had to replace compressor and other parts as it imploded was the word used.metal, etc all in system.the service manager denied this was a common problem.the cost of the repair will be around $2400.it seems clear this is a well documented issue.

Hot air blowing from ac vents.thought it must just be low on freon.looked online and discovered thousands of people with the same vehicle are having the same problem.the compressor blows and causes hundreds if not thousands of $'s to be fixed.currently the car is at a body shop who told me i got lucky and the repairs would only amount to $835 because the part alone is $550.contacted honda america and they basically laughed at me and said good luck.very irritated, but after the report of so many honda's being recalled in the paper yesterday i see why they haven't yet recalled them for this issue.although i wasn't stranded like some people report engine locking down from this because when the compressor broke it broke their timing belt and radiators, it is still very frustrating and not safe to drive in extreme heat with no warning your air will be out and how much it costs to have it fixed.

Air compressor "exploded" on 2004 honda cr-v.car bought new. 68,500 miles.taken to dealership last year a/c problems. Problem not uncommon with cr-v. Honda response inconsistent. Some customers reimbursed 100%,some 0%.my car to be repaired thursday(if parts in). Cost to me $1400 +.recall needed.

A buzzing noise suddenly started in the engine compartment while driving and the air conditioner stopped cooling. Took the car to honda and problem was diagnosed as a failed a/c compressor which contaminated the entire system. Estimated cost of repair was $3600+.car had been driven 71,000+ miles. Honda rep agreed to pay 50% of the repair costs as part of their "goodwill warranty" . Since this is occurring on so many 2001 - 2004 cr-v's, there should be 100% coverage on repairs if not a recall.this edmunds link indicates the extent of the problem:http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0d3fb5/808!keywords=allin%3amsgtext%20honda%20crv#808not being a safety issue, they will probably not recall.being so wide-spread, there should be more consistency in honda's response (all owners that encounter this issue should get 100% coverage of repair costs).this is a common complaint.

Air compressor failure at 100,000 miles on 12/22/10 after the total a/c unit was replaced on 9/24/07 including expansion valve, condensor, evaporator, cooling fan, and compressor at 75,265 miles.this is my second a/c unit that died. *ln

I have a 2010 honda crv the ac compressor failed at 60kand destroyed the entire ac system the estimated cost of repair is $2500. I live in atlanta and can not own a car without ac. I have been reading on line and this seems to be a common problem with the vehicle. The compressor belt is driven by the engine and if the compressor locks up the engine will stall. If this happen in traffic on the highway this will certainly cause an accident. Honda needs to recall their compressors and replace them with a re-designed unit. If you scan the web you will finds hundreds of similar stories regarding the honda crv compressors.

The air conditioning compressor on my 2004 honda crv internally disintegrated causing damage to the complete system according to my local honda dealer.the service department told me this is a wide spread problem with the crv's.

We have2004 honda cr-v a/ccompressor blew up today . Its known defect withthis make of honda. Can help us.

Air condition compressor seized at 125k--this is the second one--new part is on order.

Air conditioner compressor imploded and seized.large metal particles circulated throughout system.repair required replacement of compressor, condenser and receiver dryer assembly.this resulted in $1207.43 in damages on a 3 year old car.

2004 hondacrv air conditioner unit crystallized into pieces. Thank god i had extended warranty! if i would not have it would have cost me over $5000.00i am not a happy camper about this because a call back should have been done because the mechanic at the honda place at baker honda in houma ,la. Told my husband alot of these vehicles have come back with this same problem.

Airconditioner stopped working after hearing a bang and hiss.

Air conditioning compressor failed in my 2004 honda crv.dealership wants $1900 plus tax to replace system.there seem to be thousands of complaints about this issue in online forums.the failure causes the entire air conditioning system to have to be replaced.this is everything except the knobs.the dealership stated that the compressor was too small and that this one reason for failure.the dealership stated that the 2003 and 2004 crvs have major problems with air compressors.honda usa is only willing to reduce the replacement cost from $3039 plus tax to $2537 plus tax.the dealership was willing to reduce it down to $1900.

After 5 years of problem free driving, my crv started making a loud rattling sound after driving for about 10 minutes. I tried turning the blower fan off , then air conditioner off and realized it was the ac making the noise.i left the ac off from then on and took the car to the closest dealer the very next day. They told me the compressor had "seized" and that metal particles had been forced throughout the entire ac system.the repairs for this were quoted at $2650.i then saw on the internet where there were 678 posts of the same problem in different year crv's and that honda had reimbursed a few of them.i feel like this must be a very prevalent problem with crv's and there should be some sort of reimbursement, because a car without ac is pretty much worthless.

Experienced catastrophic failure of a/c in 2004 honda cr-v lx that we purchased new. The compressor seized and also sent shrapnel into the system.

Air conditioning compressor failure on 2004 honda cr-v ex. Dealership reported that if the compressor is run it can grenade and cause damage to the entire air conditioning system and other systems.

Have a 2004 crv. Compressor locked up and broke off clutch from compressor.the compressor imploded damaging the overall ac unit. The hole system has to be replaced. I contacted honda dealer in daytona. Estimated repair charges will be $3,000.00.i surprise since there has been so many complaints on your web site why the nhtsa has not force honda into a recall .

While driving to portland, or. From wa heard a loud squeal from the front of the engine. Turns out the a/c compressor is burned out at 84k miles. Honda said it was my problem and not a safety concern. The one serpentine belt drives the water pump, power steering pump, alternator and the a/c compressor at the bottom of the engine. The portland dealer would not advise me to drive it at all. If the belt burns off do to the a/c compressor seizure the power steering pump would stop possibly causing a serious accident.

Air conditioning unit broke.

A/c compressor shelled/failed & sent metal shavings through-out system. System contaminated, 3k to replace whole system. In my opinion, honda admits liability w/ "goodwill warranty" & agreed to pay 75% to fix a/c. A/c compressor defective car only has 50k mi. I want full compensation.

While driving in my honda crv 2004 with the a/c running, i notice that the air was not getting cool.about 2 minutes later, i heard a buzzing and thumping sound.i shut the air conditioner down and took my car in for service the next day.i was told the compressor and clutch were going bad and it would be $1500 to get it fixed.after some research online i found that this is not an uncommon problem.i hope honda is looking into this issue.i know it's not life threatening but it's certainly expensive to have fixed.

A/c condenser on 2004 honda crv imploded while driving on interstate.service station told me that i was very lucky b/c there was nothing holding on a certain belt other than tension.if the belt had come off, i would have lost power steering and alternator would have died.found this is a widespread problem on this model vehicle and honda should be held accountable and issue recall.besides it being a very expensive repair, there are obvious safety issues here.

2004 cr v / ac broken for second time, first timei used my extension warranty in 2007, honda west, las vegas replace complete system, now i have the same problem no ac and no warranty, i think is a bad design for the number of claims.

Air conditioner failure.compressor seized and entire ac system has been contaminated.needs replacement of ac compressor, all lines, evaporator, expansion valve and condenser.approximate cost $2800.00.mileage on auto 48,264.

A/c compressor failed. Clutch broke off from compressor.

On my 2004 honda crv that i have meticulously cared for, started hearing clunking noises, then the a/c was not working.the airport honda dealer (knoxville, tn) said i needed to replace 2 fans for $460 (using non-honda parts) and i had to get a rental car for 3 days for another $131.someone told me that a/c problems are common on crvs.my car is way past warranty.but i thought hondas were such good cars.i think if this is a common problem, then they should fix the problem for low or no cost.

Driving on local highway with my wife, two year old and three year old in the backwhen loud rattling noise was heard, followed by air conditioner compressor blowing out, causingheavy metallic pieces to go rolling down the highway at high speeds.thankfully, no other cars were in the immediate area. Whole a/c unit needed to be replaced due to exploding parts and, after much complaining , was only given partial credit to cover costs.honda knows about problem and knows all a/c compressors made with during certain years will fail but is handling on a case by case basis and is not upfront in telling consumer about problem. Please check site listed below to note how common this problem is.http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tu0okfjgv9v3f3fgl.

The air conditioner clutch froze and nearly stopped engine.now we have no air conditioning or window defrosting.

Heard a very load noise under the car and metal debris flew all over the road while driving at 65mph, then the air conditioningstopped working on my honda crv ex (2004 model/50,000 mi). I was very concerned with my 5 month old baby in the backseat and had to slow down on the highway to see if something was wrong with the tire. I brought the car to the honda dealer where we purchased the car and have taken it to service since we bought it. They quoted that the compressor had a hole and the metal pieces that shattered went through the entire a/c system requiring a complete replacement of the entire system (cost of $3500).when we complained that the cost was so high and poor quality for a car that was only a few years old, they replied "that's not our problem and you should have bought the extended warranty."after doing more research online, we discovered that thousands of honda owners have had the same problem raising safety concerns and the need for honda to take action. This is clearly a manufacturing or design defect that should be addressed by honda.

The contact owns a 2004 honda crv.while driving 45 mph, the compressor blew out.in addition, the condensor is defective and there are extensive failures with the pipes, hoses, and clutch.the dealer stated that the entire cooling system must be replaced.the compressor has been repaired by a dealer.the equipment is all original.the failure mileage was 43,000 and current mileage was 45,000.

2004 crv: after several hours of problem-free driving on freeway, we heard a loud popping noise and some clunking/rattling noises coming from beneath the car (sounded like we ran over something and it was bouncing around underneath but there was nothing in the road). Sound ceased for a few seconds and then a few more clunks/rattles before sound ceased again. Then we noticed that the air conditioner was no longer working. All indicators were on, fan was blowing, but air was not cooled. Something similar happened several years ago (approximately 2005-2006) while our car was still under warranty, although it was a more gradual failure, not quite as catastrophic as this event. Dealer mentioned something about metal shards getting blown into the air compressor and fixed it under warranty. We had no idea at the time this was a common problem or that it might re-occur. Car was just serviced and has ~60k on it. Given that there are hundreds of identical complaints about this problem, honda should be held accountable before someone gets seriously hurt. This is unacceptable. We have reported to honda of north america and are waiting to hear from the case manager. Dealer wants to charge us to inspect and evaluate car. If this happens to you, make honda pay up! don't let the dealers intimidate you and make you think it's your responsibility.

The air conditioner compressor implode and seized.large metal particles circulated throughout the system. The repair required replacement of the compressor, condenser and receival dryer assembly.the lines needed to flushed out which resulted in very costly repair of over $1200.00.

While driving, car began making loud whining noise.then a loud bang, and some big piece of metal fell off the car onto the road.air conditioner stopped blowing cold.took it to dealer and was told the part that fell off was the a/c compressor clutch assembly.entire system must be replaced at great cost.we have not yet repaired the problem.

My family and i were coming back from vacation from florida, when all of a sudden there was a loud noise and sounded like something fell out of my car.as we were driving we noticed that the air wasn't cooling like it should be.so for the next 2 hours we had to drive without any air in 100 degree heat.i took it in the next day to get it looked at and they said the whole air compressor completely fell apart and fell out of the car and ruined the air conditioner so that the whole thing would have to be replaced.about $2500 to replace, so i called american honda corp and had to haggle with them for over a week so that i would have to only pay $600.

I bought two 2004 crv's new in 12/2004.air conditioner compressors is not blow cold air any more. The job cost $4470 for fixing only this problem. Sounds crazy price.dealer -they would not admit to me that this has been a widespread problem usa nationwide . Honda should be investigated in my opinion. I think this problem should also handled by "nhtsa" . Vehicle had less than 80,000 miles. If honda does not address the issue i would consider buying my next car from a different company. Never honda car again in my life.honda america headquarter company should issue recall on honda crv 2004 because many people have the same problem on the air conditioning compressor. I believe that the air conditioning compressor is defective products. Because they are many complaint on internet.

2004 honda crv air conditioning system suddenly stop working.

A/c compressor went bad. Ac was working great all of a sudden on one hot day, it just stops working when it was working perfectly fine. Thought i needed to get the ac charge, took it, and they today me theac compressor went and i would need to contact honda since they are the only one who deals with this. Call honda and they told me that it would 1200.00 to start. This is outrageous with a know problem. There should be some type of recall on this, if he has happened to so many other people.

2004 honda crv.began driving in 98 degree weather, heard loud clatter in engine, a/c began running warm air, car stalled.took it to honda dealership and was told that the a/c compressor "blew up" and it sent shards of metal throughout my entire a/c system.i was told that the entire system needed to be replaced.the repair cost would be $3500.

Knowing that there is a potential hazard in getting the oil changed in my 2004 honda cr-v, i have been researching a solution.in that process, i have been told by several auto service places that they will not service my car due to the liabilities involved.they told me that other vehicles do not catch on fire when a gasket is left on or some oil leaks out, so something was changed in the cr-v engine that is allowing the oil to now reach the manifold.i will not feel safe when the time comes to deal with this.honda must take ownership of this problem.

Oil leak in 2004 honda cr-v. I have brought vehicle to dealer 3 times.first, the dealer changed the oil filter and gasket. Second time, said nothing was leaking.third time they found aleak in the engine block.it is still being repaired.i am afraid to drive because of reported fires caused by oil leaks in this model.

Complaint received via e-mail."while driving, a passing driver alerted me to the fact that my car was on fire. By the time i pulled to the side of the road, the front undercarriage of my car was in flames. I jerked my son out of the burning car and ran away from it. As i ran away, i saw flames coming out the sides and top of the hood. The entire car was eventually engulfed in flames. We barely escaped with our lives."

Concern regarding safety of vehicle after oil change. Significant oil leaked, recurred problem. The consumer read and article which indicated that after the first and subsequent oil changes some cr-v's have caught on fire.the consumer explained this article to the technician when the vehicle was taken for it's first oil change.after each of the vehicle's three oil changes a puddle was observed in the consumer's garage.the consumer is concerned that the vehicle may catch on fire.

After having the oil changed, the vehicle caught fire.

Notice of 2004 honda cr-v with oil leaks catching on fire after first oil change. With letter of warning in hand from honda, i took my cr-v to my honda dealership for its first oil change. I asked to see the gasket and the service tech showed it to me. I drove the car home and when i left for work the next morning there was a large (size of a sheet of paper) spill of oil on the garage floor. The car was purchased in aug 04 and the oil change happened in jan 17, 05. There was no previous oil leakage before the oil change. I called the dealer and they said it was a typical leak after the change and to bring it in. The car is still leaking oil on jan 19. My appointment to fix the oil leak is after 5pm on jan 19.

While driving, the vehicle caught fire.the driver was able to pull over. The fire department and police was called.no injuries. The driver called the tow company, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the oil filter started the fire inside of the engine compartment.the vehicle was first taken in for maintenance on 8/17/04 and was picked up on 8/19/04, the vehicle was driven for 20 minutes, then the fire occurred. *sc

After my first oil change of my 2004 honda cr-v i noticed the oil light come on while driving the cr-v home, because i had asked the asst. Service manager about the oil change fires and he said that was no longer a problem, i thought there was something else wrong with my cr-v. About a block away from the dealership i noticed a white smoke coming out of the dashboard vents, i quickly pulled the vehicle into the checkered flag service entrance and exited the vehicle. Calling the asst. Service manager overto show him the vehicle smoke was commons out of the engine compartment. The complete underside of the vehicle was covered in oil. I asked to watch as the service technicians put it on the lift (after they had replaced 4 quarts of oil in the engine). The service tech. Then showed me the double oil ring gaskets on the oil filter. I asked how this could happen? i had researched this vehicle and the only negative remarks i could find were about the first oil change. I had purposely not had my children in the vehicle for this reason. I don't know how many failsafes a system needs, but this vehicle needs way to many.to add further insult i received an alert from honda requesting that i give the service tech a notice to return the old oil gasket to the customer, does honda even track that this already happened to me?

(1)vehicle (2004 honda cr-v, vin#shsrd68474u20079) was brought into brahman honda (local dealership in miami) for its first oil change on april 12th, 2004.continued normal usage of vehicle until engine caught on fire on june 16th, 2004 at 8pm.(2)vehicle was being driven in normal traffic conditions along major street.as the vehicle we being driven, it began emitting large amounts of smoke from engine compartment.driver was able to disengage the vehicle at a major intersection.fire department came to extinguish the fire and move the disabled vehicle off the road.evidence of significant oil leak can be found.evidence of oil leakage can be found inside and underneath the vehicle. (3) vehicle has been brought into brahman honda.pending inspection by insurance company and honda mechanics.

While driving, smoke appeared from under the hood. The consumer pulled over and had the vehicle towed. The consumer was informed that the problem was pertaining to a oil filter leak.please provide more information.

Having seen the news reports on television and in my local newspaper about the fires resulting after the first oil change on 03-04 honda cr-vs i was more than apprehensive about my first oil change.i called my dealer to make an appointment and mentioned the fire problem.the dealer was unaware of any such problem.now i'm even more concerned!how can this be?isn't honda doing anything about this potential life-threatening issue?

Air conditioning compressor failed, no noise,no indication of any problem. Replaced the compressor and inspected the system for debris. The system would only cool to about 75% of what it was before the failure.replaced the second compressor under parts warranty , with this compressor it blows cold (42 deg.) about 80 % of the time, the other 20% it will only get to 50deg. No further repair attempts were made.

1.in april, 2004, i took my new 2004 honda crv to a honda dealership for its 5,000 mile scheduled service.2.the engine caught fire about ten minutes after leaving.i pulled off the road and almost immediately an off duty fire fighter pulled over and rendered help.thus, the only major damage was to the manifold, electrical harness, hood assembly and windshield.3.the dealer accepted responsibility for the faulty oil change (they showed me the double o-ring that caused the incident) and paid for repair and related expenses.i would like to commend tampa hondaland for their integrity, concern and professionalism. 4.i received an official notification of the defect today from honda and am glad to see the system works.

Purchased 2004 honda cr-v january 2004 from continental honda in anchorage alaska.we took it in for its first oil change (5,000 miles) on june 16th.after driving the 15 miles home, the engine started billowing smoke, and spuing oil (the trail of oilcan still be seen on the street).the dealer had it towed to dealership, they explained it as a faulty oil gasket, and offered a free oil change.after driving for a few weeks, i noticed a clacking sound coming from the engine.i had the techintians check it out during the second oil change on august 16. After two weeks of looking for the problem, they deduced there was some "scoring" inside the pistons and that they had to replace the shortblock. They told me that this was a fluke (a first time incident) and that the engine will be sent to honda usa for further inspection. I finally got the call yesterday (september 9) that the car was ready to be picked up.in all fairness, the employees at the dealership were very professional and courteous.

I have a 2004 honda cr-v.after 300 mile trip oil was found leaking from engine compartment.oil drain plug was loose (about halfway out) and ~ 2 quarts of oil had sprayed over undercarriage of vehicle during preceding highway travel.prior oil change was performed by honda dealership in danvers ma (honda north).i thought this information may have applicability to the ongoing investigation into honda cr-v engine compartment fires. Thanks.

The consumer's vehicle leaked oil onto the engine manifold.the vehicle was taken to another dealer where it was determined that during a previous oil change the technician failed to remove the original rubber gasket before installing the new one.see odi 10095399 also.*dsy

While the vehicle was parked, the consumer noticed that oil was leaking from the vehicle.please provide more information.see odi 10081292, same vin.*dsy

Took new 2004 honda cr-v into dealer (bob barbour honda of greenville, nc) for first oil change on saturday, may 15 2002. On sunday, while driving across town to church with my wife and two young children, i noticed a large amount of smoke. I pulled out of traffic and a man at a nearby business came running out yelling that my car was on fire. We exited the vehicle, unbuckled the children from the saftey seats and got away from the car. The fire dept was called to extenguish the fire. Police officer also arrived on the scene.as it is a sunday, i have not been in contact with the dealer yet to determine how they intend to correct the situation.this is a very dangerous situation.

Significant oil leak after first (10,000 mile) service at dealership. I was aware from media reports of the danger of engine fire following first oil change. So i took the car to the dealership thinking that if anyone could handle this issue safely and properly, they should. I specifically asked the service manager if they were aware of the known safety issues relating to the 2004 honda cr-v. They said they aware. Still, after the oil change, i had a significant oil leak (about a quart in 24 hours and 10 miles of driving).

On july 22, i had an oil change performed on my 2004 honda cr-v at the texaco xpress lube in norway, maine.everything was fine until sunday, september 19, when i noticed an oil leak on the garage floor.(it may have been leaking prior to this date, but i usually park outside on the gravel, and the oil spill might not have been apparent.)i checked the oil level, and it was still reading full.the next day, on september 20,i was driving to work that morning and had to make a stop halfway there.i noticed at this time that the car smelled a little strange.no indicator lights were on, so i assumed the car was safe to drive.as such, i continued my trip down to westbrook, maine, planning to drive directly to the honda dealership to have it checked out.when i exited the turnpike and slowed the car, all of a sudden smoke and steam came pouring out from under the hood and flooded the interior of the car through all the vents.i immediately stopped and called aaa, who towed the vehicle to the honda dealership (maine mall motors in south portland, maine).after inspecting the car, they told me the oil filter was not put on correctly during the last oil change and had worked loose, ultimately resulting in burning the entire wiring harness.the technician told me he was amazed the car didnt go up in flamesthats how badly it was burned.my car ended up being in the shop for three days.the damage done to my car totaled $782.71.in addition, i had to rent a car for three days, which totaled $115.50.

While driving 50 mph, the consumernoticed smoke coming from the rear. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pulled over.the vehicle caught on fire and the fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. The insurance company informed the consumer that the double gasket caused the vehicle to catch on fire.please provide further details.

2004 honda crv developed an oil leak after the 1st oil change.dealer said it was probably related to the sticky gasket issue (nhtsa investigation)after 2nd oil change it is still leaking and took it to another honda dealer today who said it was leaking from the vtec solenoid which was replaced.they also said they cleaned under the vehicle but it was still covered with the leak detection powder.seems to be leaking still.there was an even larger puddle under the vehicle after i drove it home.its back at kirkland honda now.

The consumer would like to know what is honda doing about the vehicle fires in 2003-04 honda crv's.*sc

Heard a "pop" sound while driving. A/c stopped working, warm air, heater only. After being checked by midas, a replacement cost of the compressor/condenser (same part) was quoted for over $2,000. I have been without ac since (happened in 2007). Honda quote is over $2,000 as well.

Vehicle was stalling and skipping at times on long trips especially when the weather was hot.the vehicle was taken to a local honda dealer but they found no computer codes to specify the problem.they then claimed that the gas tank had water in it and charged the consumer $560.within an hour of leaving the dealer the vehicle stalled again.the vehicle was taken back tot he dealer but they were unable to determine the cause of the stalling.the vehicle on has 6000 miles.

Letter from congresswoman giffords on behalf of constituent regarding problems with her honda 2004 crv (attachments not imaged) *tgwthe consumer experienced problems with the air condition unit freezing, the engine blew spark plugs into the cylinder head, the propeller protection shaft was installed incorrectly, the vehicle would accelerate at times and the hood release latch failed while the consumer was driving.

Driving down the highway, there was a loud pop that you could feel throughout the vehicle. It sound like a gun had been fired at close range. The engine died immediately and the car was difficult to keep under control because of the loss of power steering and brakes. The car would not restart until the defroster was turned off. If the heater, a/c, or defroster was turned back on the vehicle would immediately stall again. The dealership found the a/c compressor suffered catastrophic failure and littered the entire air conditioning system with metal debris. We were quoted a repair cost of $3500. Our extended warranty covered the compressor (although aftermarket) but were stuck with the bill for the high pressure lines and other small parts that still totaled nearly $1000. A search of the problem proves this is extremely common for this generation of cr-v, with thousands of complaints in online forums, chats, message boards, enthusiast clubs, and even dot nhtsa complaints. There are no similar complaints on other honda a/c compressors that are this widespread. The fact that this particular compressors part number is not used on other honda vehicle indicates that there is: a)problem with the design,b) a problem with the manufacturing process, c) a problem with the initial install or maintenance of the compressor, or d) some combination of the previous stated possibilities. These systems are failing at high rates for such low mileages, they last much longer on other vehicles (even other hondas). In addition to the problem there is also the fact that many owners get varying responses from the dealerships and from honda corporate as to how the situation is handled. Some owners are covered 100% by a "good faith" warranty as the representative acknowledges the problem is common. Some owners, such as me, are on our own or have to rely on a limited extended warranty that covers the failure but not the parts that the failure took out with it. Please help us!

2003 honda crv slips out of correct timing frequently resulting in unreliable engine performance and a loud tapping noise coming from the engine when running.this defect in the engine has been brought to the attention of the piedmont honda dealership service department on 2 separate service visits (9/13/2003, 4/30/2004).the piedmont honda dealership refused to correct the defect and stated checked vehicle and compared to a new vehicle.sound is not abnormal and is characteristic of vehicle.performs as designedpiedmont hondas refusal has directly resulted in the engine stalling out on one occasion (8/16/2004) and refusing to start on 2 other occasions (7/28/2004, 8/1/2004).both times that the vehicle refused to start the owner was stranded at the least opportune time.

I am reporting poor gas milage during cold months.i purchased this car in august 2004 and with my driving found that i got 25 miles on the highway and 20 miles per gallon with mixed highway and localstreets (50-50 mix).when cold weather arrived with temperatures in the 30s and 40s, i noticed that my milage was very poor.the highway remained the same. The mixed driving was barely 14 miles per gallon.i took the car back twice to the dealer and was told that there is nothing wrong.at the second visit i spoke with the service manager of honda and was toldmy driving style and/or using the heating had this effect on the milage.my driving style is not in question - it has not changed.that leaves the heater.i find this very hard to believe.i use the ac in the summer and my mixed driving milage was at 20.

Our 2004 honda cr-v was taken to the dealer for its first oil change after 6 months of ownership and 2,038 miles driven.after driving a few miles toward home the oil began draining rapidly from the car and smoke was billowing from underneath the car.my wife, following in another car, signaled me to pull over.i did and immediately shut the engine off.the remaining oil drained out and the smoke and heat subsided.we believe a fire would have resulted if i had driven much farther.when dropping off the car, i made a special point to remind the dealer this model hadreported fire problems associated with oil changes.the dealer examined the car after the incident and admitted the filter had not been properly installed.despite the reminder, any steps taken by honda to remedy the situation, and service by a large honda dealer, this dangerous situation still resulted.we believe both honda and nhtsa are remiss in not ordering a recall of this vehicle for some modification to prevent such oil leaks from falling onto the catalytic converter or other parts hot enough to cause combustion.we did not drive the cr-v again and traded for a safer vehicle.the dealer indicated he would resell the cr-v.will it take burning injuries or death before you take action?

The check engine light lights up intermittently. Dealer changed gas cap twice but problem will not go away.

I'm a 2004 honda crv ex owner and purchased the vehicle on 10/18/2004. I noticed a burning smell from the exhaust after driving the vehicle. I receiveda pamphlet when at purchase stating a smell will be evident for the first few hundred miles. However, it was the first thousand miles. Current mileage apr. 8009 miles. I still smell it occasionally. Not knowing about all the previous damage from other owners, from the doubling the gasket. I think it might be that. Maybe oil leakage or something. Haven't brought it in for a check on that however. But i will asap. I have already got my first oil change(04apr05) at the dealership where i purchased vehile, and have not had any problems from anything catching fire. Also didn't bring up the smell, but i should have. Still do smell a burning scent from the exhaust after driving the car. Also, my 5th door(trunk) i noticed a thuping sound when opened all the way and brought it up during oil change and dealership fixed problem with no questions asked. They over charge me though($103.92). Don't go to "poway honda " in california. Actually writing to consumer reports as well. Also have to say this is a great website and will reccommend to others. Thank you.

On 11/24/04 i was driving on a major interstate when my engine and battery lights suddenly came on.i felt as if my breaks were not going to work.i pulled off at the nearest exit trying to get to a safe place to assess the situation.as i got off the exit, smoke began to billow into the car from the vents.a man approached me from behind and informed me my car was on fire.i didn't realize it until that moment.apparently, it had been shooting flames out from the front wheel wells.my car had about 15,000 miles on it at the time.my oil change was four months earlier with no signs of any oil leaks prior to the fire.the fumes caused me to have an asthma attack, even after the fire was out and the car was towed to a honda body shop.

Durning the first oil change , the original oil filter gasket stuck to the engine block.this created a double gasket .the next morning while driving to work this gasket failed , spraying oil under persure all over the hot exhaust pipe and very hot catalytic converter. The oil bursted into flames. The fire ball went into the engine compartment. I turned off the ignition, and this stopped the oil that was feeding the fire. The fire quickly burned itself out. Had i not been in a driving situation where i could quickly pull over and get out of the crv , this could have been a total disaster.there is now evidence of a fire inside my brand new engine compartment.to correct the problem i had a different brand , other then honda, oil filter put on.

The oil filter was changed on the first oil change for a new vehiclewhen the filre was change one of the gaskets stuck to the engine, the double banded gasket burst and oil was released onto the exhaust, causing a fire.a new oil filter was installed after the extra gasket was removed.

In morning daylight, 50 degree temperature in columbus ohio, i was astonished to see a honda crv traveling at 65 mph beside me on the freeway with it's exhaust system glowing so brightly, i first mistook it for an orange neon lighting system. The first thing that came to mind was "this poor guy's car is going to catch on fire". Imagine my surprise when i did a search on the internet and found that honda crvs are being investigated by the nhtsa for mysterious fires.ttp://motortrend.com/features/news/112_news18/.the reason why honda suvs catch on fire is because of incredibly high exhaust gas temperatures that cause in the manifold collector and exhaust pipe of the vehicle to glow cherry red at highway speeds.something in the engine management system is amiss causing either incredibly lean mixtures that raise exhaust gas temperatures, or overly retarded timing that is letting excess fuel burn in exhaust system instead of the engine. Either way, it is a disasterous problem based on what i saw.please feel free to contact me if you would like any additional information on what i witnessed.btw:i called the direct trouble reporting number for nhtsa, and was told i could not file any report on safety issues unless i could supply a vin number...pretty lame.

Complete air conditioning failure on an '04 crv, after 8 months of ownership.only occurred once to this point.i contacted honda. They told me it wasn't under warranty any more.repair was $1,700.00 honda finally covered the parts under (good faith agreement) after i hounded them.

The air conditioner clutch froze and nearly stopped engine.now we have no air conditioning or window defrosting.

My 2004 honda cr-v's air conditioning stopped working on the afternoon of 9/24/10.the air blowing out seemed to be warm.i made an appointment at a local service station to inspect the a/c for the following morning, 9/25/10.the mechanic removed the lower panel a/c compressor and showed me a hole that was caused by the a/c compressor "exploding" outward.there were a few metal shard pieces left in the plastic panel that covers that area of the vehicle.the mechanic said that he had heard of this happening but had never seen it.according to the mechanic, his parts supplier said that they hear of this often.both believe there is a manufacturing issue with the compressors.due to the way that the a/c system in the honda is set up, the entire thing needed to be replaced.fortunately my mechanic was generous with his costs and labor charges.it cost $1313.52 to fix.i checked online for a recall and called honda america.there is no current recall but i found an online discussion thread with better than 900 comments of folks who all had similar issues with their honda cr-v a/c compressors.ihttp://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tu0okfjgv9v3f3fgl/p49it appears that the dealerships are charging around $3000 to fix this issue.i should mention that i had purchased an extended warranty but my car has 160,000 miles on it.this issue seems to occur at various mileages.in some cases, the metal shards that blow off of the compressor can either slice into the tires or make a hole in the oil pan.i guess i was "lucky" it didn't do more damage.

Airconditioner quit working.thought was just low freon-was shrapnal in my vehicle from the unit disintegrated.was told lucky i didn't drive any further or the shrapnel would have gotten into the engine, seized it up, possibly crashing in the process.this is something that honda knows is happening.it cost me about $1600.00to repair, someone is going to continue to drive after losing the airconditioning because they can't afford to fix it and someone is going to get hurt from it crashing.

2004 honda crv- air conditioner condenser blew apart while operating the vehicle. Looking at complaints - this is an ongoing problem with the crv and honda knows about the problem. I am having to pay a large amount of money to get this replaced. (honda is paying a portion - they know they have a problem with this model of honda) honda needs to do a recall on this car to fix this problem. It is happening to hundreds of these cars.

Driving and heard loud noise, a/c quit cooling, took to honda dealership and was dx as needing a new compressor clutch coil, dealer paid part of the cost.

The a/c went kaput on my 2004 honda crv.hendrick honda of charleston told me the entire system was contaminated and needed to be replaced in the ballpark of $3000.my car has 40,000 miles on it and i have learned of a litany of the same problem with other 2001-2004 honda crvs.i've also learned that the crv air conditioning system has been redesigned for models after '04.i contacted american honda and received a case number which i shared with my service representative.he said "i wish you hadn't done that because i could have got things going faster."this is neither here nor there, but i did get the sense i did the correct move.hendrick honda of charleston says they can fix it no problem, but i don't want to be on the hook for a major repair on a car that isn't that old with few miles.i'm not looking to cause a stink... I just want the car fixed.other than this, it's a bang-up vehicle.thank you for your time.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v.while driving 50 mph, the contact noticed a squeaking sound coming from the engine.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the air conditioner compressor failed.she did not notice any differences prior to the failure.the vehicle has not been serviced for the failure.the current and failure mileages were 44,000.

Air condition compressor seized at 125k--this is the second one--new part is on order.

In short, the air conditioning compressor on my 2004 honda cr-v blew apart at 70 mph and 58,000 miles sending metal pieces flying and bounce back from the pavement hitting all along the entire length of the underside of my cr-v.to add to my frustration, the cr-v was given a 60,000 mile service in the amount of $955.76 at 56,050 miles to guard against something like this happening. At the 60, 000 mile service along with all the regular service, the complete cooling system was cleaned and flushed with state of the art equipment removing old contaminated coolant, replacing with new coolant, adding a water pump, lubricant, corrosion control and a system sealer . At 58,000 miles theair compressor blowing up, i was 900 miles from home transporting two elderly relatives in 110 degree heat in july in oklahoma.by the time we reached the next available city, we were all wind-burned from the intense heatdespite the fact that we were driving with the windows partially down and at a much slower speed.in the end and since the flying parts of the compressor had gone everywhere, i parted with $1,805.20 at 58,154 miles for the replacement of the air compressor, clutch, coil, condenser and, of course, the cost for evacuation and recharging of the a/c system again.this does seem to be a problem for honda since whoever is supplying compressors for their air conditioning system is not meeting safety standards.it is apparent from my experience, the compressor bearing(s) frozen causing the compressor to jam and the housing to overheat and blow apart.these flying parts can go anywhere causing more property damage and additional cost beyond just replacing the compressor ($542.78 plus labor); and when these compressor parts are spread across heavily traveled highways, they could cause a tire blow-outs contributing to a serious accident.

Air conditioner compressor implode - loud bang and no air conditioning.

Honda crv air conditioner stopped working.took to honda dealer.they advised a/c system had " imploded". Would cost $1,200 to $2,000 + to replace and insure that system is cleaned of all metal particles.

I was driving my 2004 honda cr-v with the air conditioner on, and i heard a pop and then a rattle. Then, my air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. As i tested the air conditioner, i could tell that the air conditioner was not kicking in. I scheduled an appointment with honda service, and they told me that the compressor shaft was broken, and that the air compressor, clutch, and coil needed to be replaced. This repair was very costly ($1300) and it was not covered under warranty. I was very disappointed that my air conditioner would fail after only 2 years of use. Honda service told me that it looked like normal wear and tear. My complaint lies in the possibility that this part was defective. If not, then this incident could happen again in another 2 years.

Thunk noise from engine on passenger side.worse with turning, happened intermittently at all speeds. Dealer said "something" was not tightened properly, muttering about engine mount.

Headlights stopped working. Wiring burned.

Both headlights went out.replaced the headlight switch in august, 2010both headlights failed again in october, 2010...went to replace the switch again and the mechanic noted the wiring harness appears overheated and needs replacement.

Low beam headlights suddenly went out, both at same time. Replaced with new bulbs, still no low beams. High beams work and fuses ok (high beams are on same fuse as lows). Measured zero voltage at bulb connection for low beams. Major safety issue. I have seen on the forums many owners of 2002-2004 experiencing the exact same issue. It is related to wiring at the headlight switch in the steering column connection overheating. The parts used in these vehicles are the exact parts involved in a recall for civics for the exact same reason. Why not for cr-v's?

Head lights just turn off and i don't touch the switch, the high beam work fine. No warning they just go off and don't work on the lower standard setting both lights.

Both lowbeam lights went out simultaneously while driving.

I just bought my honda crv on 09/09/04, in third day i found that the washer container or bottle leak the liquid in the drainer neck, because the connection of the neck and the bottle has no washer rubber to stop the liquid from leaking. I callfor repair but excuse for waiting the parts, it seems this is unreasonable.

The gas overflows when filling the tank.it literally fountains out of the tank.the gas runs down the side of the car onto the tires and brakes.i am very concerned about the risk of fire when that gas hits hot brakes.i see several other complaints about the same problem on various websites, including honda's site.i bought the car new in 2004.i had no problem for a year.then suddenly the gas overflowed one day when filling the tank.i took the vehicle to the dealership immediately.they couldn't replicate the problem and said there was nothing they could do.over the next four or five years the gas overflowed sporadically, probably 3 or 4 times over five years.i almost always use marathon gas.i don't overfill the tank.when the pump clicks off, i typically wait a second, and then remove the nozzle.i will put the nozzle back on the pump and then turn to put the gas cap on, and sporadically, i find the gas literally fountaining out of the tank.in june or july 2009, it happened again on a very hot day and i was extremely concerned.i drove immediately to the dealership again and this time they informed me that a valve, integral to the gas tank, had gone bad and that the entire tank would have to be replaced.that was done.all was fine for the next 20 months.but just last week, the same problem happened again.i am very, very concerned about a possible fireball happening because the gasoline fountains out of the tank, runs down the side of the car, hitting the tires and brakes, and then pools onto the ground.i've had probably a half liter of gasoline fountain out like that.please look at the other complaints that have been filed.this is truly a safety hazard.i am beginning to think it would be safer for me to have my child outside of the car when refueling this vehicle.it's truly scary when it happens.thank you very much for looking into this problem.i am waiting for honda's resolution and repair now.

Check engine light came on. Brought the car to the dealer. Was told the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced (sensor #1) at a cost of $498.

Bought a 2004 honda crv. Warning light indicated problem with gas cap but dealer couldn't specify cause. Can't add any gas after it initially stops, regardless of how full tank is, otherwise spillage occurs.

This has happened more then once. I would be getting gas, and when the pump clicked to indicate that it was fulli would take the nozzle out and the gas would come spilling out of the tank all over the side of the car and down the tire. This is very concerning to me. Im affraid of a fire. I haven't taken it to my mechanic yet. I have seen several complaints about this. I really hope honda looks into this.

Under fuel tank cap, there is a vent hole and a plastic extension (scoop shape). This plastic is pointing upward and vent hole is at the lowest point. In rain or during car washing water gets on the scoop through the fule door (fuel door is not water tight) and water enters into the fuel tank through the vent hole. And water gets into the engine cylinder.

Consumer stated that vehicle caught on fire after the first oil change.after oil change consumer pulled out into the driveway and vehicle started to smoke.then, he pulled to the side of the road, and cut the vehicle off.by this time it was just a lot of smoke, but no fire. Honda dealer repaired the vehicle. Consumer states that this happened on 3/4/04, when the mileage on the vehicle was at 5158.

When adding gas the tank overflows when filling up about 95% of the time. Theproblem first began september of last year after dealership serviced the car.dealer does not know what is wrong withvehicle.

During fueling of vehicle, 1 to 2 seconds after pump automatically stops, fuel spills out of filler tube.even upon removing gas pump handle, fuel can be seen flowing out of filler tube for several seconds, down the side of the car and onto the ground.estimate 4 to 8 ounces total.potential fire and environmental hazard.occurs about 50% of the time the car is fueled, and has occured at different gas stations.

When fueling the auto shut off does not work leading to fuel spill. If it does click off there is always a backwash of excess fuel spilling out of filler tube.

Purchased 2004 honda crv ex 8/04.upon filling the gas tank, gas spurts out while pulling out the nozzle from the tank.i've had gas land on my legs and quite a puddle on the ground.talked with services advisors at honda twice about it and was told they've never heard of such a thing -- try holding the nozzle in for 3 seconds after filling -- should take care of the problem -- it didn't!this problem occurs every time you fill up.the only time it doesn't is when you don't put the nozzle all the way into the filling neck.seems a vacuum is made when you do and upon retracting the nozzle it releases and gas spurts out.i reported this again to a service advisor at honda 8/05 and i've been requested to bring the vehicle in on 8/19/05 to take a look at it.i noticed one other complaint about this issue on your website.whatever happened to their concern?

Have a 2004 crv.started overflowing when filling up with gas 3 months after purchase.have been working with one, then another dealership for 8 months with no resolution other than my time wasted and them trying to build one car over one piece at a time.american honda was notified at the beginning & has done nothing to resolved the problem.(extreme incompetence there)i have run into other people at gas stations with the same problem.want to know how many more are out there that are not being addressed by honda or the nhtsa.this is a safety hazard.i don't know why it will take someone's car on fire at a gas station before anyone will do something about this.

Just purchased a honda cr-v (new). When the gas tank is filled up at the pump there is gas spillage following the automatic shutoff of the pump. The amount is approx. 2 to 4 oz of fuel. This could cause a fire and is also an air pollution source. This spillage occurs every time i fill up the tank. This must be corrected. Is there currently a recall???am i the only one with this problem???will this get fixed??? who should i contact next???

On may 15, i took my 2004 honda crv to the dealership for its first oil change.my daughter picked up the car 2 hours later and drove 1-2 miles when passerages in nearby cars began blowing their horns and telling her to get out of the car because it was on fire.men in the car behind called the fire dept. And being mechanics checked the oil.it was "bone dry."fire dept. Called for sand to be laid. The car was towed to the honda dealership where they had cleaned it up by the time i got to the dealership.they wanted me to get in the car and feel safe about my new car which had 3800 miles.their answer to why this happened was that they had left the old oil gasket on and had put the new one on top.it had blown oil out the tailpipe.i left the car there for 6 weeks while i sought legal help, had independent mechanics check it out, sent oil samples and filter to independent labs for testing.during this time i contacted honda coporation, local tv stations, and made numerous phone calls to the dealership.i requested a new car and to have the service plan which i had purchased transferred to another dealership.two weeks ago, the dealership did agree to issue me a 72 months/100,000 mile warranty and they did refund my service plan so that i may purchase it from another dealership.american honda corporation never took any ownership for the situation.they agreed with the dealership.

On august 20th, 2007 at 7:30 am while i was driving my 16 year old son to school my 2004 honda crv began to speed uncontrollably. According to the dealership there was a throttle cable malfunction that led to the cars uncontrollable speeds of up to 80 miles an hour. This was the most horrific experience i have ever endured. While on the freeway i was forced to weave in and out of cars all while having both feet on the brake. After deciding to apply the hand brake we decided to get off the freeway. We ran one stop sign and before coming to a dead end street thankfully we made an abrupt stop after being forced to just turn off the car. This was after having my son call a friend for help and advice. My son and i were completely shocked that nothing worse came of this. Thank god that no one was harmed in this incident. The dealership says that it was a malfunction that was not caused by the operator and there was no way to detect that this was going to happen. The dealership has agreed to pick up all cost related to the malfunction but truthfully i am not looking to get back in that car. We are currently trying to negotiate a trade-in. Thank god nothing happened to my son, me, or anyone else.

Recent (may 15, 2012) replacement of the throttle body to my 2004 honda crv by hoehn honda in carlsbad, cahas created within 5 miles of driving a severe sudden acceleration problem.the "idle" speed is now 2,800 rpm.the car accelerates and tries to obtain a speed that matchs amost a 3,000 rpm level. A driver with less than many years of experience could easily lose control of the vehicle as in its repaired condition by the dealer.

In addition, the rear passenger's side power door lock would not function when entering and exiting the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.

The door locking system does not work.from the driver or passenger side door-lock open or lock any doors in the car.the remote door keys do not work at all. The door locking mechanism seems to be completely broken.this is the 2nd honda cr-v which i have seen this from.this becomes a safety hazard if the door mechanism is not working correctly.

Faulty door lock actuators in honda crv.three of my door lock actuators have failed since purchasing the vehicle new.the driver side door failed within 5 yrs, then the passenger side door, and now one of the rear doors.the car is not driven often and has under 70,000 miles on it.a failure of 3 doors causes great concern of quality and safety.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. The contact stated that while the vehicle was unoccupied, parked and powered on, the doors locked independently. The contact was locked out of the vehicle. The failure was sporadic. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the problem. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. While the vehicle was parked, the rear passenger door and tailgate door locks would not engage and the vehicle failed to start. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

Our client, wilson sanchez, was driving his 2004 cr-v mpv when it slid on ice and rolled onto its roof.the removable picnic table, a standard accessory in that model vehicle, fell out of its retained position in the rear cargo area and struck mr. Sanchez on the left side of his head behind his ear.he received serious injuries.the table design does not secure it in place in a rollover.

Door locks on 2004 honda crv do not function as manual states.when inserting key into driver's side door, turning key clockwise, and holding, all the doors do not unlock as stated in the manual.instead, only the driver door opens.same problem exists on passenger side of car.honda claims manual entry is a typo and car is designed to function that way.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the hood separated from the vehicle and shattered the windshield. A local mechanic diagnosed that the hood latch needed to be repaired. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. My daughter was driving down route 95 in philadelphia when the hood on her honda cr-v opened and smashed the windshield and roof.this occurred on a monday morning.she had jumped the battery on the previoussaturday night and closed the hood. She drove that night with no problems and drove all day sunday with no problems.

Incident #21.on january 7, 2005, on us hwy. 441, i stopped the crv to refuel, opened the (replacement) hood, added oil, closed the hood and resumed my trip.2.within 2-3 miles at a speed of 60 mph, the car hood suddenly flew up and crashed into the windshield completely obscuring my view.because it was daylight and traffic was light, i was able to move the car off the highway without incident.a police officer stopped to inquire, but there was no need to file a report.3.undrivable, the crv was towed to a body shop, where they discovered that the hood prop rod was inserted into the hood latch, preventing the hood from latching, thus causing the accident.damage to the vehicle included the hood, roof and windshield, all replaced by the body shop at my expense.here are the issues:a.the design of the 2004 crv hood prop rod is defective.it is very easy to mistakenly insert it into the hood latch, which is located less than an inch from the rod.i tried the same maneuver on our 2004 honda accord, but the prop rod is located far enough away from the latch not to touch it at all.b.honda has made its reputation as a manufacturer of safe vehicles.that is why i own two.however, the honda crv does not have a warning system to indicate if the hood is unlatched.in this case, though both the hood latch and safety catch were unlatched, i was not made aware of it and was placed in a situation that jeopardized my life.this situation could easily be remedied by redesigning the rod and installing a warning light in the dash similar to those indicating unlatched trunks and doors.

Upon buying this car repairs started immediately starting with full brake system and now both ball joints, power steering return line, timing chain and tensioner. This car is only 13 years old and in my theory these items should have lasted a lot longer.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. The contact stated that when starting the vehicle, an unknown warning light illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was undetermined. However, the technician informed that the power train control module failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v395000 (power train). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 198,131.

During test drive the vehicle stalled upon braking. Thus leading to 3rd party inspection request. Upon receipt of photos and estimate for safety repairs notice a counter offer was sent to the dealer to which they declined to repair or reduce the vehicle. I have concern that the vehicle will return to the lot and an unknowing buyer will be at risk.

My car had been parked for several hours at a relatively flat area at the top of a hill.when i got in to start the car, the light came on that the tail gate was open. I went to the back of the vehicle to slam the gate and the window.when i got around to the front door of the car and opened it, i heard a pop and the car started rolling.i stuck my foot in to get my foot on the brake, but the open door knocked me down and the car continued rolling till it hit a stone wall.i am sure that i had the car in park.that day i got a rental car which has the gear shift on the floor.my car has the gear shift on the dash board.for days, every time i stopped, my hand would automatically go up to the dash board to move it into park.i am sure i had the car in park.it was not rolling when i was standing behind it to slam the tail gate and window.it was not rolling when i went back to the front door.i don't know what the "pop" was, but that was when the car started rolling.fortunately, my injury was slight.when the door knocked me down, i rolled away from the car.the bottom of the open door bruised and gouged the front of my right leg.i did not go to the hospital.*la

The "protection propeller shaft" is installed on the honda 2004 and 2005 cr-v incorrectly. It serves no purpose with the way it is installed and could potentially allow the shaft to fall to the ground during failure.*mr the consumer stated the protector cannot prevent the drive shaft from falling to the ground in the event of a catastrophic failure of the universal connected joints. The consumer believes the part should be either installed correctly or eliminated.

I drive a 2004 honda cr-v which appears to have automatic locking retractors on the seat belts.i have two young children and the biggest, now 4 1/2, has just moved into a booster seat.because the seat belts retract automatically, getting tighter and tighter with every movement, my child already got terrified when she was pinned back in her seat by the seat belt, with her chest smashed into her booster seat.while driving, there was nothing i could do to assist her.also, although i purchased an excellent car seat, the automatic retraction of the seatbelt means that each time i need to get my child in and out of the seat, i must first unthread and then rethread the seatbelt through the seat's guides, creating ample opportunity to do so incorrectly.finally, and most importantly, b/c of the automatic retraction of the seatbelt, i am quite concerned about the risk of strangulation, such as what happened to a local child, deandre harris (see washington post story on december 17, 2008).deandre, whose mother drove a honda cr-v, died shortly after his accident, in which he could not free himself from the tightened honda cr-v seatbelt. Please let me know if honda currently offers replacement of its automatic locking retractors with emergency locking retractors or switchable retractors to ensure that children riding in hondas do not risk strangulation.also, please advise me what your office is doing to investigate and address this, apparently, extremely serious problem.thank you.

While drive up a hill the rpm's where to high an wouldn't respond to braking

There is a problem with my seat belts. The local dealership says they are working as designed. I find it hard to believe that honda would agree seat belts that do not recoil while they are on you driving and seat belts that keep you from breathing are designed that way. The dealership said they cannot do anything. They are how they are. The vehicle was purchased new in january 2004. It has never been in an accident. The front seat bets intermittently do not recoil while driving and almost always after releasing them to exit the vehicle. They are progressively getting worse especially while driving. The concern is if there is an accident they might not engage. Sometimes i cannot get them to engage by manually pulling on them while in the car. The rear seat belts have always been extremely touchy. Not having any kids and rarely having back seat passengers this problem wasn't noticed. Recently i rode in the back seat and even slightly breathing would make the belts re-track to the point you can not even breathe out. Again the local dealership said there is nothing wrong with them.wrote to honda 9/28/2012 requesting they replace the seat belts and currently waiting for a response.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. When the contact started the vehicle, the srs indicator continuously illuminated and caused the seat belts to malfunction. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, but the part that needed to be replaced was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified.

I own a 2004 honda crv and have had problems with the seat belts for over 20,000 miles.both front seat belts lock when they should not and will not retract until they have been unfastened and pulled all the way out and re-inserted into the buckle.at which point it happens again, and again.i have brought the car to the dealership at least 4 times with the same complaint and all they do is lubricate the belts and say they "cannot re-produce the problem."i also called american honda company to file a complaint, and they will not do anything if the dealership can't re-produce the problem.which is bull, as i brought the service writer out and showed him exactly what happens.now the srs light is on the dash indicating there is a problem with either the seat belt tensioners and/or air bags. I am hoping when i bring it in again this week they will actually replace the seat belts. Not only is there supposed to be a lifetime warranty on the seat belts, but it is a very obvious safety issue that neither american honda or the dealership is willing to address unless there is not a proven problem with the tensioners, the dealer gets stuck paying the labor to fix the problem.how many people have to get hurt before the srs light is lit, indicating seat belt tensioner failure, before the problem is addressed? (it took over 20k miles before my srs light came on to indicate the problem i knew existed).

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. While parked, the contact noticed that the seat belt light illuminated on the instrument panel. After reviewing the manual, the contact learned that the warning light indicated a failure with the front passenger side seat belt. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. ..updated 07/13/12 the consumer stated he was rear ended and the seat belt did not properly restrain him. 2004 honda crv hit from behind

Purchased new honda crv ex-automatic from conicelli honda of conshohocken, pa on october 17, 2003.from the first day there is a rattle coming from the rear of the driver's side.this rattle is not only annoying but distracts from my concentration while driving.took the car to the dealer twice.first on 10/20/03.service manger frank boyle stated noise coming from rear seat and asked me to make an appointment for it to be repaired.made appointment and left the car with the service dept. For one full day on 10/27/2003.rattling noise not repaired.nothing done.the noise still exists.this noise is a major distraction to the driver and probably a safety hazard because it distracts the driver.*la

When attempting to accelerate speed from 40mph, gas pedal stuck in depressed position and rpm stuck at 4-5k.unable to use brake application and efforts to unstick gas pedal failed.the only solution was to turn ignition and shut engine off.fortunately, it was early in the morning and there was able time and distance for manual intervention to correct situation and avoid a potentially hazardous outcome.vehicle was taken to dealership for diagnostic evaluation on 10/29/2014 and since the problem could not be duplicated it was not recorded as a defect.

Today while driving on the highway my cr-v accelerated by itself and wouldn't stop even when pressing on the brakes. I had to press the brake to the floor to go towards the exit. I even turned the car off and on but immediately revved as if i was pressing the gas. Wouldn't switch out of park.i googled and my vehicle is not the only one to do this. Is this a known issue to honda?

Because the brake pedal (when depressed) is lower than the throttle (gas pedal),my foot has hit both the brake and the gas at the same time causing the car to lurch forward on three different occasions, .i have taken the car to the dealership for this problem twice and been told that there is nothing wrong with the car, therefore nothing they can do. I feel that this is a real safety issue and could cause a serious accident.please advise as to what my next step, if any, should be ???

Suddenly, when braking, the pedal went almost all the way to the floor and braking was effected by using the emergency brake.after some trouble shooting determined that it was the brake proportioning valve and brake lines that had gotten so rusty here in vermont and due to its designed exposure that they failed.all at once, not gradually. The agency that repaired my damage said that a 2003 crv failed the state inspection due to rusty frame damage.the nhtsa should specify that brake lines and fittings should be made of stainless or brass. I have heard stories from many saying that they had to replace brake lines.

I was driving through my area at or near 15 mph. When the car suddenly accelerated on its own to a speed of 30-35 mph. Research shows that this is not an unheard of complaint oroccurrence for this make, model, year vehicle as evidence buy complaints to you.this vehicle has been meticulously maintained by the dealership and i am the original owner and only driver. This is my first accident in over 50 yrs of being a licensed driver.

On july 7 2014 front brakes were replace with front remanfactured brake calipers from ucx corpon march 23 2015 brakes failed due to front remanfacturedbrake calipers leaking brake fluid from seals.on april 10 2015 brakes failed again due to brake fluid leaking from front brake caliper seals.this is very dangerous due to brakes fail without warning.

On 5/24/2011, as i was drivingon a city street, my 2004 honda model cr-v ex-l,with a loud noise came to an abrupt stop. I later learned that the lower control arm of the right passenger side had broken off and caused the front right axle to snap off and the tire became detached from the body of the car.the insurance company geico, had the adjuster looking at the car, on 5/25/2011 and he determined there had been no collision, no unrelated damage to cause this serious problem.the cr-v was towed to the same dealership where i have had the car serviced , i have all my records.in 2010, i went to firestone to have an oil change, all otherservices were done at honda.the honda inspector looked at the car and determined there was no defect, the car was old and this was the result for such damage to the car.i reported my complaint to honda, complaint # [xxx]. Now i have to pay a good deal of the repairs myself, since my extended warranty had expired. My insurance company will cover the axle and the labor costs.every honda representative, i spoke to, tells me that the car is old, and this sort of damage is to be expected.at the time that the honda inspector, saw the car, he asked me if anyone else had worked on the car,i said no because, i had always used the honda dealership service department to service my car; later on, i found that in july 2010, i did have an oil change at a firestone service center for an oil change.i am very concerned about driving this vehicle again, and the fact that all the honda representatives tell me that my car is old, and it is to be expected. The car had at the time of the incidenta total of 62,342. Miles on it. I should also report that this vehicle had to have 4 sets of tires changed from date of purchase to 2009. Again, the honda service representative at the same location, told me that suv's require frequent tire changes.the master cylinder of this car has also had to be replaced.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information

I was driving a new 2004 honda cr-v, stopped at a stop sign and then turned left onto a one way street. I saw an suv in front of me and applied the brakes. Nothing happened. I hit the vehicle in the rear. That vehicle was knocked forward. I applied the brakes again. Nothing happened. I hit the vehicle again in the rear. The air bags deployed. I yanked my vehicle to the right, and stepped on the brakes again. Nothing happened. I was finally able to straighten and stop the vehicle by pulling as hard as i could on the parking brake--and even then, i had to pull it twice, as far down as i could get it.the other driver wasn't injured and her vehicle had damage on the rear side. My left knee hit the dash and my hands hit the wheel and dash--sustaining some injury, and my right arm was burned by the air bag. My vehicle was totalled.the mechanic who looked at my honda said that he couldn't tell for certain if the brakes had failed, or if the throttle was stuck full open prior to the accident. After the accident, the throttle was stuck full open.

The consumer's 2004 honda crv experienced corrosion and 4 wheel disc brake pad seizing into position which caused them to wear.the entire rear brake system was replaced along with the front pads and the rotors were turned (under warranty).this vehicle was leased for the consumer's daughter.*sc

2004 honda crv with only 24,000 miles, purchased new, local driving -left rear brake pad totally worn to metal.right rear - some scoring on rotor.front pads and rotors seem ok.defect in brake pad - critical safety issue.

In the first three months after purchase in 2003, the passenger side rear brake started making a loud rubbing/grinding noise through certain brake pressure.our first oil change and tire rotation the noise stopped only to reappear on the driver side rear.noise is the same, jacobs twin has replaced the entire brake assembly once, replaced the pads once and, refinished the rotors once.each time the noise subsides for a period only to come back within 3 months.everytime i have i go in for my oil change i have to have the brakes redone as well.i believe i have purchased a faulty product.

Our 2004 honda cr-v pulls hard to the right when accelerating.it will change lanes on it's own unless you fight the steering wheel.it appears that other owners of the cr-v have the same issue.i'm afraid that this is a safety concern and hope that honda can come up with a fix.

Tilt steering lock mechanism will fail and allow steering column to float.this float condition leads to a loss of steering control.the condition is intermittent but most often occurs at temperatures below 40 degrees f.

Both my low beam headlights stopped working i could smell a rubber burning smell and smoke was coming from the steering column.

The lever which locks the steering wheel into an up or down position is slipping causing the steering wheel to move up or down while driving.my fear is that this unstable wheel will cause my wife or i to have a serious accident. Can the manufacturer be made to correct this potentially dangerous condition?

The lever which locks the steering wheel in the up or down position does not stay in the locked position. It slowly loosens, even while driving. This is scary, especially if i'm making a turn when the wheels moves. I think that this should be a safety recall. I've never had a car do this.

Upon buying this car repairs started immediately starting with full brake system and now both ball joints, power steering return line, timing chain and tensioner. This car is only 13 years old and in my theory these items should have lasted a lot longer.

The contact owns a 2004 honda crv.while driving 60-65 mph, the steering veered to the right.the vehicle crashed into a ditch.a police report was filed.the contact's insurance company would not pay for the damages.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 25,000.

While driving, and tryingto make a turnsteering wheel frozeand the car becameuncontrollable.dealer's service manager drove the vehicle, and agreed that the power steering unit was defective.honda will not repair the vehicle, and statedvehicle had no defects.

When making a low speed evasive manuever that requires turning sharply from one direction to another, the steering loses its power assist temporarily. Feels like steering is jammed. Problem manifests when traveling below 20mph with braking and a swerve to one direction followed by acceleration and attempt to straighten out vehicle.

2004 honda crv.consumer writes in regards to vehicle paint issues.the consumer stated white spots starting appearing on the hood, then windows and around the windows. Also, the air conditioner had to be fixed.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. The contact stated the vehicle was included and repaired under nhtsa recall campaign number: 11v260000 (air bags). After the vehicle was repaired the air bag light continued to illuminate intermittently. Additionally, the contact stated the front and reardriver and passenger side doors locked on their own while the vehicle was parked and the engine was on. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

Honda refused to correct the door locking system for 2002 to 2006. There was a recall for only to 2007 to 2009 which have the same kind of problem. For second times, i was stuck because the driver door locked and cannot open and then forced myself to exit through the passenger door. My major concern for my safety reason in case if into accident or else. Honda dealer wants over a thousand dollars to replace parts for both front doors. I am not sure about rear doors but i learned some crv has a problem with all door locks. I was deeply discouraged your agency did not do with this situation with 2002-2006 crv. I spoke with a representative. He said due to an old car high mileage vehicle will not pay for the replacement parts and labor. I told him regardless of age or mileage but my point is my safety issue. He suggested me to junk my vehicle and buy a new one will resolve my situation. I am retired and have a fixed income from social security which i cannot afford to buy a new car. My vehicle is running very good. There are a lot of people frustrated with this safety-related issue.

I had taken my son to a local park for batting practice and when we were ready to leave i had asked my sonput the bat and balls in the trunk of the 2004 honda crv.when my son had pulled the handle to open the trunk, instead of swinging open, the trunk had fallen off as the hinge pinbroke.the door fell downward, sustained a left a significant scratch on his leg.had he not moved quickly the door could have caused a serious injury rather than just a scratch or had my pregnant wife been the one to open it a very serious injury could have occurred.i brought the car to frontier honda in longmont, co, and was told they would not cover the fix because i was overthe warranty and never had serviced the car with honda, even though it was kept up on all necessary maintenance).one person at the dealership told me it was clearly a defect, while honda america , told me it was my own fault for not having the car serviced regularly at honda.i was so disgusted at their lack of concern for theproblemthat the very next weekend, i took the car to toyota and traded it in for a safer vehicle.

Right front lower control arm separation.happened during low speed operation.i am the repair technician who did the repair.i am submitting this on behalf of the owner and because of my own concern.researching the internet, another owner of a 2004 cr-v experienced the same issue.this issue may be related to the following:nhtsa campaign number: 12v124000.the issue may involve earlier models.i have the defective item available for inspection.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. While driving 15 mph, another vehicle crashed into the passenger side of the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the chassis bottom was fractured due to a missing part that covered the chassis and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,357.

2004 honda cr-v, problem started around 21,500 miles. I have a clunking sound when going over bumps or ruts in the road.more so if right front wheel hitsa lower part of the road.sounds as if something is loose.still under warranty.taken to dealer twice.they replaced strut and second time moved the engine mount over.it did not help.sounds as though metal clunking against metal.will take to another dealer to see if they can find the problem.

When driving the vehicle over speed bumps, pot hole or dirt roads a clanking/popping noise was heard. Vehiclewas taken to two separate dealers. The first dealer replaced the front struts, reattached the front bumper, retightened the engine mounts and other bolts. However, problem recurred.currently, vehicle is at the second dealer being inspected/repaired.the consumer stated that the problem was in the passenger side of the front end.*tc

Dt:the consumer owns a 2004 honda crv. He aslo owned a 2003 honda crv. The 2003 and 2004 honda crv is the one he had the problem with. Consumer stated that the vehicle vibrated so bad at 50 mph he could not drive the vehicle. The vehicle was turned in on a lemon law. The honda dealer service representative said that they had several vehicles turned in for this problem.

Recenly while on vacation i picked up a news paper the union times saturday july 10 2004. The article was in the b section about a honda crv catching fire after its first oil change. The blame was placed on the dealer?heres the problem. Honda recently switched to 0w-20w oil for the 2003 and 2004 honda`s. Not more than the vicosity of cooking oil. We all know what can happen when cooking oil is hot? now here the good part. When the oil is chnage in the new body honda crv the oil drains down across the right side sub frame and being this oil viscosity is very adhesive it run directly into the retangle hole on the side of the frame. Then when the vehicle leaves the dealer the air traveling under the vehicle create a spray nozzle directly at the exhaust. If the person has just come in from a long drive the exhaust will never cool down enough because of honda requirment for the dealership to have honda`s new "express change " in place. It leaves the dealership already hot and the fire occurs.you may have guessed yes i work for a dealership. We now use a rubber stopper to plug the frame and fill in that troublesome rectancle hole with silicone preventing oil from entering the frame. We keep water in refillable spayers to extingush flame burst if they occur while changing oil.

The wheels on 2 of my tires are leaking air.

Back door driver side does not lock.

I am no longer owner of this vehicle and continue to receive recall letters and voicemails.

Is there a recall on the ac compressor?

Ac compressor has failed.vehicle model and manufacturer have a long history with this particular issue.there is no recall in process.manufacturing defect causes expensive repairs for replacing entire ac system at cost of $4000, and each time ac fails, it requires a recharge with r type freon - which means the r freon has escaped into the atmosphere.there is lawyer investigating class action - [xxx].. [xxx]. There are many honda crv forums discussing this particular issue.honda negates to accept responsibility and repair costs.

Ac compressor locked twice in 1 year

My airbags have been replaced as part of the takata recall. After the last airbag was replaced on 2/12/2016, the service advisor told me that the srs opds unit was malfunctioning and needed to be replaced at my expense ($475). He said that this needed to be replaced in order for the airbags to work properly. My contention is that if this unit needs to be replaced for the airbags to work, then this is a safety issue that should be covered by the manufacturer, exactly like the airbags have. I called honda is out of warranty and therefore my responsibility. I disagree. Please review my case and let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

Door locks leep failing

The air conditioner began making a loud noise under the hood then it began making a rattling noise. When i turned it on it blew warm air.now i donā€™t get the noise only warm air. I took 2004 honda cr-v to the shop to get checked out. I recā€™d an estimate of $1,800. This vehicleā€™s a/c compressor motor is directly under the motor making it difficult to remove/repair/replace. The clutch engaging the compressor is not working ** due to the heat of the motor. Honda: this is a very poor placement for an a/c compressor.

Driver's side sun visor will not stay in position.drops down constantly. Will not stay up nor pushed forward against windshield.the owners forum has tons of crv owners with this problem. I contacted honda and was told they do not guarantee that part! this is a major safety hazard. Honda knows it has issue with it's visors however will not issue a recall for the problem.

My air conditioning was not working well.i took my car to the honda dealership and they said i needed to have the ac clutch pulley replaced.calling around, other car repair shops said that if i didn't get it replaced immediately there could be a catastrophic failure.honda then investigated further & found out that i needed to have the entire ac system replaced because the ac compressor went bad.looking online, this is a common issue for honda cr-vs.there are multiple websites/blogs discussing the issue and also a class action lawsuit.honda should recall the ac compressor to fix the issue.

Cruz controll doesn't work and i heard there is recall on the air condition pump

Ac compressor fail. Compressor seized up, built pressure, exploded. Had repaired. 2 years later, same thing. Had it repaired. 3 years later, 5/29/15, same thing happened. Looked online for recall. Thousands of complaints, but no recall. Could potentially cause injury.

I first heard a noise from the front of the car under the hood, and later ifelt many metallic pieces banging inside the car and falling off, when i was driving on a city street. Later when i took it to the mechanics, i was told the air compressor was exploded, and some of the metallic pieces from the explosion partially cut my belt. The mechanics said it is necessary to replace the entire air compressor, condenser and belt, and do a complete flush of the system. The worst case, if some small pieces residue inside the system, it could hurt the engine.

Since 2015 and still today my car has been making a very loud whooping noise when the a/c is turned on.it has progressively turned louder, and over the last month or so, the a/c works on and off but never with the force it used to. The problem has always occurred when the vehicle is running and with the a/c on.

One month ago i purchased a 2004 honda cr-v.this afternoon on my way home from work, i went to hit the brake pedal when i discovered something had fallen over the brake pedal. Honda has put a piece of plastic under the dash for some reason and devised some rinky dink way to hold it in place.the latch was still in the locked position but it had vibrated to the side and came loose, falling on the brake pedal and almost causing an accident.fortunately i was not following to close so i had time to stop before rear ending the car in front of me, but just barely.i was not able to pull over to remove the piece of plastic for several more miles and once again, came close to rear ending someone because this piece of plastic had fallen over the brake pedal.i think you need to take a look at this and have honda fix this before someone has a really bad accident.

I was driving about 30 mph and heard a loud bang coming from the front of the car. The air conditioning started to blow hot air .i pulled over and found upon opening the hood that oil from the a/c compressor had been forced out of thecompressor on to the engine. I brought the honda crv to my service station immediately. Upon their inspection, they found that the a/c compressor had exploded, sending refrigerant oil and pieces of the compressorhousing down to the ground under the front tire. Therepairsneeded were a new a/c compressor,condensor,a/c hoses, expansion valve at a cost of twelve hundred dollars.

I have less than 30,000 miles and my a/c is not working....and ofcourse the deals tells me it will cost me $700 to replace. I told him that the reason i bought a honda is its reputation...if an american car does not have these problems why should i pay more for a honda and pay more for maintainence. I told them it is a design flaw... It is 4x4 so they expect you not to ride on tough roads??? it seems that this problem is very common on new honda cars, suv's and vans.if honda expects a f$x$ to ride on tough roads does it mean that your a/c should not work because a small peble gets in? honda should be asked to fix the problem for free... It is a design flaw. Well...if it gets really hot do they expect you not to use the a/c? are we supposed to fry in heat? pay or you fry...nice money making machine that honda has found.i hope they are not allowed to do business in the united states if they do not have good business practice.we should all join in and fight for honda to correct their bad design. They should be responsible.

I along with other honda crv users are looking to file a complaint to have a possible recall issued to honda. I have tried contacting corporate and they act like they've never heard of the issue. The issue is the fact that the air compressor found on the cr-v has the issue of 'imploding'; the internals completely shattering, forcing debris throughout your ac system, plaguing all of the associated components and causing the compressor to seize or 'lock up'. This debris will find itself lodged in these parts and a simple flush just won't do.replacing only the ac compressor and drier is not sufficient enough to have reliable ac once again. I am just to the point of even scared to drive my car anymore and honda will not help with the issue. Even doing a simple google search of honda crv compressor failure you ill find hundreds of articles stating there is an issue of crv's from 2002-2006. I feel as if something needs to be done. Even if they just add a shield from the compressor to the engine. Please help if you can; even if you could just investigate it. Thank you so much in advance

Steering wheel adjuster comes loose every once in a while while driving causing the the steering wheel to move loosely. Had occured several times in last 7 years.

I just saw a recall on some 2004 honda crv models about the window switch. Mine went faulty a couple years ago and i cannot use 1 window. The dealer said it was the switch then, but it was somewhere around $1000 to fix so i decided to just not use the window. I just saw the recall and checked my vin which says itsnot affected. How do i get this fixed? thank you.

The contact owns a 2004 honda crv. The contact was reversing 3 mph when the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward and crashed into a brick wall. The air bags then deployed and the contact sustained a concussion and injuries to the knee. The contact was transported to the hospital via ambulance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contacts place of residence and being handled through her insurance company. The manufacturer advised that they would send a representative to inspect the failure of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 63,326.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The dealer stated that the throttle body was defective. They repaired the vehicle. The contact also stated that once the vehicle was taken home, he was leaving his residence and the vehicle was idling at 2,800 rpm's. The contact removed his foot from the brake pedal and the vehicle accelerated on its own to 50 mph. The contact also stated that his foot was not on the accelerator pedal during the failure. In order to stop the vehicle from accelerating the contact had to depress the brake pedal and shift into neutral. The dealer was notified and they had a representative pick up the vehicle. The failure recurred when the representative operated the vehicle. The diagnosis was unknown. The manufacturer stated that he did not take the vehicle to the proper dealer to be repaired. The failure mileage was 182,200.

I was driving my 2004 honda crv when someone ran a red light. I hit the gas as hard as i could and the car kept accelerating to red lining even after i took my foot off the gas pedal.i hit the brakes and they seemed to be trying to work buy they didn't stop the car or even slow me down. I put the car in neutral and tried to turn the key and it would not turn. I iwas almost hit twice as i had to go through a light. I headed to a empty building. I figured i would have to crash myself to keep from killing anyone. When i turned towards the building i was able to turn the key off and the brakes worked finally. The car still red lined in park. The car had to be towed and they had to fix the cover over the throttle. It had slipped down and the throttle caught on it. Towing number is 330-995-2385 honda told me no recall on 2004's but heard about the honda 2005 hybrid and that was actually what i went through. Gas stuck and no breaks, it was the most frightening thing i ever went through. It also happened to the mechanic who test the car and then fixed it. I ask honda to report it and they told me to report it to american honda but i decided after the way they acted to report it to you. I could been killed or killed several families.

Honda crv 2004 stuck accelerator in driveway of my house -- full throttle crashed into another car and kept going until other vehicle hit tree and fence.

Cruz controll doesn't work and i heard there is recall on the air condition pump

I was accelerating at a yield sign to merge onto the main road. I realized the car was accelerating more than it should be and was quickly approaching a very unsafe speed for this road (approx 60-70 mph).felt the accelerator depressing itself further as i completely removed my foot from the pedal. Acceleration continued, and rpms were approaching the red zone of 6000-7000. Not knowing what else to do, i put the car in neutral and pulled to the side of the road. The excessive revving and rpms continued for about 30 seconds before suddenly going to 0. Car was still running and i was able to continue driving, but now i'm worried this may happen again in less forgiving conditions.

Stepped on the accelerator to pass another vehicle and throttle stuck at full speed.pumped accelerator to no avail.applied emergency brake and, literally, stood with both feet on the brakes.engine still raced at full speed, and i was having difficulty controlling the vehicle.river on my right and oncoming traffic on my left.saw a large, open yard and drove the car at high speed into the yard and turned off the key.when turning the engine back on, it still raced at full throttle with the transmission in park and the accelerator pedal not depressed.had car towed home and evaluated by independent (not honda) mechanic. His diagnosis was "carbon buildup in the throttle body."emergency brake and regular brakes completely ruined during this incident and in need of replacement.two grandchildren in vehicle with me.everyone terrified, but no one hurt or injured.repairs quoted as very expensive, plus the cost of new brakes.did not want to ever drive this car again and disposed of it forthwith.routine google search uncovered similar incidents with the 2004 and other year crv's.

While drive up a hill the rpm's where to high an wouldn't respond to braking

While accelerating at 55 mph accelerator pedal stuck.consumer managed to decelerate the vehicle, pulled over, and restarted the ignition. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

1) while coming to a stop off an exit ramp the car tried to accelerate ot max speed. The only way tom stop the car was to hold both feet on the brakes and shut car off. (this is one out of four incidents between 1000and 2000 miles on a brand new honda cr-v)2)restart of car correted problem.the next day it hapened again and it took 5 re- starts to correct the problem.3) honda looked at car two different occasions, and said they could not find any problem with the car.

The contact owns a 2004 honda crv.while driving between 35-40 mph, the accelerator pedal extended to the floor when the brake pedal was depressed.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the failure occurred in 2004 and, after the third diagnosis, the dealer repaired the vehicle.the failure recurred in 2009, although the dealer stated that they rebooted the computer and added new software in 2004.if the vehicle is shut off for 30 seconds, the failure corrects itself.the most recent failure occurred on may 22, 2009.the failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 76,000.

Consumer was driving when the gas pedal stuck.consumer pulled the floor mat back and applied the brakes, but vehicle did not stop. Consumer put vehiclein neutral, andtried to shut it off, butvehicle would not shut off. A police officer urged consumerto ram vehicle in order to slow it down.then, vehicle was towed to the dealer.

While driving 55 mph the consumer hit a deer in her 2004 honda crv.although the vehicle had front end damage the air bags did not deploy.the vehicle's throttle also became stuck. The consumer requested that honda consider this incident to change the design location of the throttle. *sc

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 12v486000 (electrical system, visibility) and 14v351000 (air bags); however, the parts needed were not available. The dealer was contacted. The contact believed that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

Driver side sunvisor can not stay in its place.when it droops down, visibility is affected.

The driver's side seatbelt does not retract well.other seatbelts may be affected as well.the driver's side visor has not been damaged but does not stay up.it is a safety hazard.

The contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. The contact stated that the front passenger's side window could not be closed. In addition, a burning odor was emitted from the window area. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and the contact inquired of a recall under nhtsa campaign number: 12v486000 (electrical system , visibility). The contact was advised that the vin was not included in the recall campaign and that the window switch would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 127,000.

While driving in warm and very wet weather i heard a loud pop and theair conditioner on the 2004 cr-v stopped blowing cold air. In order to see through the fogged windowswe had to run the widow defogger on high, blowing hot air for the remaining 3 hours of our road trip. We were miserable, to say the least. Upon returning to houston i took the car to a mechanic ,who elevated it and showed me the air compressor. The housing of the compressor is shattered. It looks like a hard-boiled egg shell after being cracked. This is a faulty part, which i'm told will cost $700 for just the compressor. The mechanic told me that when he contacted a dealer, the service manager told him they had sold 5 from that dealer alone that month! in october! the car was only 2 years old.

The driver and passenger side front windows go all the way up when using the controls to raise the window.the dealer indicated to the consumer that this is the way the vehicle was designed.please provide further details.

Power window will reverse direction.

Not an accident.just concerned that the same part had to be replaced in july 2011 and again in august 2013, and am concerned that this may be a safety issue, as the driver's window becomes inoperable.

2004 honda cr-v.consumer writes in regards to a potential failure of the power window master switch.the consumer stated he received a recall notice regarding the power windows.he immediately contact the dealer and made an appointment. The consumer stated his vehicle was at the dealer for 9.5 hours, and when he received the vehicle back, it was after dark, so he didn't notice until the next morning, that the power window master switch unit was loose, not sealed properly and was elevated out of its normal housing by 3.8 inch. It was not sealed within the door as securely as before the recall was performed. The consumer returned to the dealer, but the switch still appeared improperly sealed and bulged up from the door housing. The service manager stated the recall required that the power master switch box be stuffed with insulation and then the power master switch unit needed to be forced back into the box to prevent waster from leaking inside. He also stated that the reason for the recall was because water could cause the wires of the power master switch unit to short-circuit potentially causing a fire and he further stated the power master switch unit would not fit as it did before the recall. The consumer stated stuffing the power master switch unit housing with insulation and forcing it back into position so that it was not sealed as securely as it was before the recall was not safe. The switch unit is now more prone to water exposure, short-circuit an fire. The consumer stated honda should have replaced the entire power master switch insulated in its box as a single waterproof-sealed unit.

Beginning approximately one year from date of purchase, my moon roof began to rattle when driving, both opened and closed.i took it to my honda dealership and they replaced a bolt.approximately 4 months later, it had worked itself out again but the dealership did not have the time to address it on that visit.i took it back 2 weeks later and they replaced the entire moon roof mechanism.three months later, i returned with the same rattle and they tightened the bolt and said nothing else could be done, that i would have to deal with it.i lodged a complaint with the honda corporation and they told me to take it to a different honda dealership, lie to them and tell them this was the first time it was going to be addressed and see what they thought.i did not lie to them, but they heard the rattle.they said it seemed to be a recurring problem with this honda model and that i could apply oil to help with the rattle, otherwise i would just have to deal with it for the duration of the car.the oil has not helped.

While driving down the interstate at 75 miles an hour, the moon roof on my 2004 honda crv shattered.it looks as if the moon roof was lifted from the car and has a concave shape.

2004 honda cr-v windshield stress fracturey cr-v was 6 weeks old with 600 miles on it when i discovered a stress fracture in the front windshield glass beginning at the pillar and working horizontally.ealer agreed to fix under warranty.dealer personnel and the auto glass repair technicians report seeing this problem on cr-vs and elements.

While driving on the freeway at approximately 55 mph, i heard a bumping noise coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. I pulled over and found the steel belt had separated from the front passenger tire (fisk classic p205/70r15 95s m+s.) immediately noticed was the steel belt separation caused damage to the front passenger tire wheel well. I was advised not to drive the vehicle due to the fact the steel belt separation may have caused damage to other parts of the under body on the vehicle. I had the vehicle towed home.

Upon buying this car repairs started immediately starting with full brake system and now both ball joints, power steering return line, timing chain and tensioner. This car is only 13 years old and in my theory these items should have lasted a lot longer.

My 2004 honda crv has had 4 rims crack at the weld.when honda was contacted they informed me that this wasn't a widespread problem and was more than likely from abuse.i have seen other issues on the web and wanted to make sure this material defect was noted in your system.

The contact owns a 2004 honda crv. The contact stated that the rear driver side tire was constantly losing pressure abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised there was nothing wrong with the tire. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic who located a defect in the rear driver side wheel.the mechanic advised the contact that the wheel had pin holes that were causing the tire to loose pressure abnormally. The manufacturer was contacted and offered a discount on the wheel replacement. The wheel was not replaced. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 72,500.updated 07/20/11
