While driving down the road at 6:30am this morning my low beams headlights went out. Not able to see i pulled over and put my crv in part. I noticed that my light switch was still on but i did not have any lights. I pushed the light control forwards and noticed i did have use of my high beams. Luckily i was driving to work and only had about 5 more mile to go being saturday on coming traffic was minimal. While at work i had time to research what the problem may possibly be that's when i stumbled upon a few recalls. Need my heads lights i went to autozone and bought a replacement switch but while plugging in the new switch i noticed that one of the connections was burnt. I.e. The recall in ?. I'm concerned that this is going to happenagainso i would like to know the steps i need to take so that i can get this properly taken care of. While looking at this recall i found 3 more alarming recalls. Both air bags shooting out metal fragments and a driver side window switch that could possibly catch fire. I'll be parking outside just in case but any advice about how to get this fixed would be great. Being a 14 year old car i feel like i will have troubles with the dealerships i hope that's not the case the crv is in very good condition and i would like to keep it that way.

On 7-29-15 i took my vehicle in for re-call work on dr side and pass side airbags.after the work the srs light came on.on 8-8-15 i took the car back and was told that srs light was code 7-2 and usually caused by jumping veh.after they re-set the srs light, it came back on next day.i returned on 9-24 and was told they can't re-set the srs light and it would cost $750 to fix srs control unit.i was told air-bags will not work.i feel that their working on the car caused the light to come on..

Received nhtsa recalls 14v-349 & 14v-351.called local dealer who said they had to order parts.it's been over 6 weeks, and today i was told it would take another 4-8 weeks to get parts.this recall is for airbags, which makes it a big safety concern.not only are the airbags in my car faulty, but the company who issued the recall can't supply the proper parts to the local dealers.honda should be fined big time!!!if i get in a crash and i am injured, honda will have a huge lawsuit!

After responding to two airbag recalls and repaired my car was involvedin a collision resulting in this vehicle been totaled i was stopped on a side street waiting to turn left into parking lot when i was hit by car hit drivers door and left corner pillar resulting in the car being totaled and injuries resulting in surgery august 2016. Airbags never deployed

The signal srs appears in the monitor. I received the last recall for the air bags on 2015, and the service center take action of this but about 1 month ago, the srs is on the monitor while the car is turn on.

Airbags recall was taken care of and then the main airbag computer came on for all the airbags but honda said that is not covered after they had tampered with the airbag recall the same year.

On 2/3/2015 i rec'd letters from honda motor co stating that both front air bags possibly had life-threatening probs. I called local dealer, jeff wyler honda, and new parts were ordered that day. Today, 4/17/15, the dealer still has not rec'd them. My complaint is that honda co tells customer that their life is in danger if car is driven but doesn't fix prob! it's been 2 1/2 months! the dealer's hands are tied as honda co tells them parts are back ordered- with no estimated delivery date. Maybe you can light a fire under honda co!

Air bags are supposedly under recall.

Srs (safetly restraint system) light on vehicle is on and will not turn off on 2003 honda cr-v.

Received recall notice for airbags.as of today this matter has not been resolved.many phone calls to local honda dealer and honda america customer service.what can i do to have this safety issue resolved?

We have been waiting for airbag replacements for the honda recall since january. Our dealer, jl freed in montgomeryville, pa has received one of the two airbags but has no idea when the other will be in.over 90 days of waiting seems excessive for a recall requirement.

The srs light (airbag sensor) continued to stay lit on my dashboard while driving. I took it to my honda dealer (west hills honda in bremerton, wa) where they informed me they "found" a "code 7-2 in the system", indicating there was an "srs control unit failure". Essentially, the electrical unit that would deploy the airbags had failed, which meant i no longer had the potential use of my vehicles airbags in case of an accident. The cost for a new part was $659.95, labor an additional $100.00, which meant a bill close to $800.00 with tax. Far beyond my retirement income to handle. It would seem to me this is a safety related issue, similar to a seat belt problem (which honda would take care of for free). This srs control unit rarely fails, they told me. It certainly was not due to my negligence or lack of attention to proper maintenance. It would seem to me that since this is a potential safety issue, and was not caused by negligence by the owner of the vehicle, this should be covered by honda. Otherwise, myself and my family are at risk driving this vehicle. I could certainly use your help in convincing honda to replace this faulty unit. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

I was reviewing a list of recalls for my vehicle and i just wanted to know are there still recalls on it. I just purchased this vehicle on 02/21/2020 and i noticed the fuse box was only working on one side. And then riding the interstate it slowed don't and gradually picked back up speed. I think it's the fuel propulsion system as i read from an earlier report.

On 2/14/2015 i took my honda crv to my local honda dealership to repair the front airbag inflator. I was told the replacement parts were not available at that time and i would be notified as soon as they were received at the dealership. I have made several calls to the dealership and these parts are still unavailable with no known availability date.i no longer feel comfortable driving my crv realizing that a serious accident could occur at any time.the information i would request from honda is: what is the timeline for replacement of the airbag inflators ( it now appears that the drivers side is also involved) and if this is excessive what would be the interim solution.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On 07-07-16 i had my car serviced at superior honda of omaha due to an srs light illuminating on my dashboard.i was told by the service technician that the light could be a result of seatbelt failure because the srs system is a component of the seatbelts.when i had my 2003 crv serviced at superior honda of omaha due to an srs light problem diagnosed, the issue was with the srs control module. The technician informed me that this part was not covered under the honda lifetime warranty for seatbelts and i was charged 820.35 to have it replaced. The service technician told me that when the srs illuminates, then it is possible the airbag and seatbelt system will not function correctly, so for safety concerns i agreed to the replacement.the following week, i contacted honda corporate offices and spoke to a customer service representative (nicky).she gave me a complaint reference # 04820522 and i was then referred to her supervisor liz.liz contacted me earlier this week and reiterated that the srs module is not a component of the seat belt system in honda vehicles and that honda is not responsible for reimbursing me for the repair.i disagree.attached you will find a copy of my bill from superior honda, a copy of a service news article from honda that clearly states the srs is a component of the seatbelt system and a copy of the page in my owner's manual that states honda's lifetime warranty and component coverage. I would like to be reimbursed for this bill.thank you

Takata recall - on september 11th 2015, i got the driver's side air bag of my 2003 honda crv replaced after months of waiting. I have until this day still received notifications from honda that they still need to replace the drivers side air bag. I called the 1-844-758-9245 number of honda's to determine what the issue is.they informed me that there is now a passenger side air bag recall and they said this is why i am still receiving the driver's side airbag notice. This sound suspicious to me.why is honda telling me their is a passenger side recall now but i have never received notice for this? why can they not report the successful completion of the drivers side replacement? why has this whole process taken years at this point?

I first called coral springs automall, coral springs, fl 33071 about replacing the airbags in my vehicle (due to a recall) on october 22, 2014.i spoke to a woman who did not identify herself, who seemed reluctant to help, and was told someone would call me back.after waiting three days, on october 25 my husband called again.he spoke to dexter, who promised he would call back when the parts were in stock within 7 to 10 days. Again there was no return call.so my husband called again on november 11.this time dexter said that the parts "could be on back order for two months."when questioned about the safety concerns of driving with these demonstrably dangerous airbags, distressing because there is regularly a baby in the car, dexter advised that the airbag fuse be removed until the situation was remedied.once more we received no phone calls from the dealership.thus another call was made on january 06, 2015.my husband again spoke to dexter, who repeated that he would call back in 7 to 10 days.predictably, no one called.another call was placed by my husband on january 15.this time, at last, dexter made an appointment for january 23.on the 23rd, the driver side airbag was replaced, and we were told that the parts for the passenger side were unavailable (no further explanation).they would need to be ordered.i don't comprehend how it is that after months of waiting for these parts, and being forced to drive in an unsafe vehicle, this dealership is still unable to fix the problem--despite making an appointment to do just that.the problems do not subside from here.today, january 27, i went back to the dealership to address the fact that the cover on the driver side airbag was not attached.once again, i was told that the passenger airbag parts were on order and no time frame for completion was offered.

I have been trying since before february 12 to get the recalled airbags fixed, but 2 dealers have told me the parts are on back order until "some time in april."i keep getting repeat letters warning me that the faulty airbags "could kill or injure you or other people in your vehicle," and the letters state there can be "provision of, or reimbursement for, temporary alternative transportation, as necessary."but both honda dealers i've contacted have refused to provide this alternative.my 2003 honda crv is my only car; thus, it's my only means of transportation.

I purchased the 2003 honda crv from anthony auto sales in thomson, ga on 2/21/2020. After purchase i noticed my cigarette lighter/charging port didn't work. Did a fuse test on it only to discover half of the fuses weren't working in the fuse box under the hood. I called to the dealership and they told me it may be an electrical problem i couldn't get the vehicle in because i was having surgery the following week. On february 25 while driving on the interstate the vehicle slowed down but picked its speed back up and for some reason it seems to get poor gas mileage. I like my vehicle i just want to know of any future and past recalls and would like to have them rectified since i now own the vehicle. Past reports have also shown problems with the airbags as well. There's a problem with the door locks as well.

We received a recall notice from honda for the takata air bag in this vehicle earlier this year. My daughter, who drives this vehicle, contacted autopark honda 3630 old raleigh rd, cary, nc 27511 (919) 467-4747 in early march and was told the part was not available and they would contact her within two weeks when the part arrived. She did not get a call back. She called again mid april. Same story. I called on monday june 8 and talked a person in service. She said they had no record of any previous contacts about this. She checked for my daughter's name and phone number and address and for my name, number and address and found no matches. Since it has been three months since we started this recall process and the local dealer has not been effective, i am filing this complaint to see if we can get some help. I am very concerned about my daughter's safety driving this vehicle, which she uses to get to and from her job and for other transportation needs. I find it hard to believe that the dealership has no record of her previous contacts. I plan to call again tomorrow to give them the vin number since i did not have it with me when i last called. But i want to be on record that this has been an unsatisfactory result for a safety recall.

This car, owned by my wife, was brought to a local honda dealer to have the driver's side airbag replaced.because of my past experience with some of these places, i do not put a lot of trust in them and know some will say the work was done when in fact it was not.so i placed a tiny piece of masking tape on the inside lip of the steering wheel cover to make sure they would actually remove it.when my wife returned home with the car, the tape was still there.i had attached it loosely and it fell off as soon as i touched it.this should have fallen off with the steering cover removal.before doing this swap, the battery would also have to be disconnected.i checked the radio and all the channels were still preset, yet the memory should have been wiped when the battery was disconnected.the radio code was written in the owner's manual so they could have reset the channels but that would be unlikely for them to do.i asked my wife which cd was playing when she left the dealership and she said the same one that was playing when i arrived there.after disconnecting the battery and resetting the radio, the cd player will start playback at disc 1, track 1.now they may have done the work without actually disconnecting the battery but i was not convinced so i removed the steering cover myself.the serial number for the new airbag on my invoice is nowhere to be found on the airbag in the car.it is a takata airbag still, but i understand they are providing the new airbags.i am not about to go back to the dealer to accuse them of not doing the work as i need to be 100% sure of this.i would hate to cause someone's reputation to be damaged by an unsubstantiated claim.is there anything you can do to help us ensure that this work was done properly?we are afraid to drive the car.thank you for your time.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Takata recalli was in an accident in may of 2014. I was hit on the driver's side door/front fender on a city street going approximately 30 miles/hour in a straight direction. The airbags were deployed. I sustained a deep gash on my right forearm and what appeared to be chemical burns on the skin surrounding the gash, both palms and both thumbs that took several weeks to heal. The "burns" worsened over a period of several hours following the crash. I assumed they were chemical burns after doing a quick internet search. I did not go to a doctor but instead treated the area with an antibiotic cream and later, aloe vera. I healed within a few weeks, but i still have a scar on my right forearm from the gash (recent, 2/16/17 photo attached). The injury was caused bythe airbag deployment. At the time of the crash both my hands were on the steering wheel at a "10 and 2" position.

I took my honda crv to the honda dealership in clarksville indiana to have the takata air bag inflators replaced under the recalls.my vehicle had to have both airbag inflators replaced (drivers and front passenger).the work was completed by the dealer and i took the vehicle home.that same evening i looked down and in the floorboard was a very special looking screw.i knew immediately it had something to do with the airbag inflator recall work.i was concerned especially since it was under the drivers side.i called the dealer and even took the vehicle back down to the dealer to make sure the warranty work had been completed correctly.the dealer service department assured me it had.i showed the service tech the screw and he said that it was indeed the same screw that the airbag inflator was secured with inside of the steering wheel.but he told me it was one of the old screws and they had to put new and different screws in with the new inflator.i was extremely disappointed in the quality of the work at this dealer.when i spoke to the manager of the dealership some time later he questioned whether the screw was related to their work.blame the customer seems to be honda's modus operandi these days. The whole experience was shoddy & shady in my opinion.why should a consumer that has been put in harms way already by defective and deadly parts be put in double jeopardy by shoddy recall work at the dealership.is this all the better we can do?i still don't know for sure if the work was completed correctly, or if my airbag inflator is held in with three screws instead of the required four.i think the regulators should require automakers to follow strict procedures at the dealerships for all serious safety related recalls.regulators should require that all parts be submitted to regulators so that an unbiased investigation can be conducted.

While driving the highway from bend oregon to albany oregon i was in a 2 car crash. I recall the explosion of the airbag and then coming to against the rock wall at detroit dam. I had hit the car in front of me sending it spinning and crashing up against the guard rail in the opposite direction. The honda crv went to the right and rolled 3 times coming to a stop on the side. There was medics, police and ambulances that came. The fire department was able to get me out with the jaws of life and i was transported to the salem oregon hospital. The driver of the first car sustained a broken shoulder and torn muscles. I had a severe concussion and seatbelt burns. Muscles had been torn from my back and shoulders. I was in therapy for many months and still suffer from the pain and memory loss.

My affected vehicle was traveling at 30 mph when broadsided by a vehicle traveling at 40-45 mph on the driver's side; my vehicle was also shoved out of the driving lane, proceeded to collide head on with a street sign with the front rightand a utility pole with my front left. Neither the front or side airbags deployed. The vehicle was totaled and jaws of life was utilized to extricate me. I suffered a left-sided head injury (large contusion, concussion), shoulder injury (rotator cuff, fractured scapula) and back and neck strains. These injuries were caused by contact with the frame of the vehicle on the left side. Injuries could have been possibly avoided if side air bag deployed and cushioned the impact/protected driver from contact with vehicle frame. Contact with american honda at the national office regarding this matter was met with total disinterest. One person actually told me i should be glad it did not go off because i could have been hurt worse by the airbag. I was also told that there were two recalls for airbags related to my vehicle - neither of which i was contacted. They claimed they had an incorrect address, but i had been previously notified of non-related recalls with no issue of incorrect address, and there are records of the dealer that has done prior recall work. No excuse....updated 02-03-15

Since i received the recall notice in january, i've been calling almost all honda dealers in our area in san diego ca and they've been telling me that they don't have the parts necessary for the recall. I received a tentative service date on april 11, 2015 withthe honda dealer in mission valley but when i called today, they apparently have not received the ordered parts yet, so my schedule was cancelled. Same thing with the honda dealer in el cajon. They said that they have no parts as of yet.we highly depend on this vehicle for travel and with the recall issue still unresolved for more than 3 months now, god forbid that we don't get into any accident. In case we do, again god forbid, i demand full responsibility from whoever is not acting fast enough in resolving this dangerous situation with our vehicle!

While driving at highway speeds, the driver over compensated when turning steering wheel and lost control of the vehicle.as a result, the vehicle flipped over.none of the air bags deployed.the consumer sustained a broken neck and injuries to the arm/face and head.the vehicle was totaled.*scc

We have been waiting for airbag replacements for the honda recall since early february. Our dealer, has received one of the two airbags but has no idea when the other will be in. Was told today that possible release date for part was late june or july.honda has provided a rental car but will not cover the insurance.i have to exchange the car every 30 days so that my private insurance will cover the rental car.otherwise it would be ~$40 a week.that is over $500 for their problem.i feel that 5 months is an excessive amount of time to have to wait for repair of these critical safety components!

We were told that the vehicle was in car accident which perhaps lead to the present problems. I'm not an expert on cars. However i do feel a safety concern with the vehicle on the road with children. The vehicle has been sent 4 times; fix mostly a loose noise with steering issues (there connected?). These issues occur constant during turns and on the road. Once the mechanic works on the vehicle the problems always return. Are there any defects or safety issues regarding loose noise, or steering problems? and prior to any accident?second, the dealer did send the vehicle to honda to check the air bag but that seams to be a concern as well. Any ideas for me?third, not only do i have a safety concern but the dealer is not able to provide any documentation of fixing any parts. So we really don't know what is wrong with the vehicle in regards to; what has been fixed or a defect prior to a accident?

"takata recall at my local honda dealers request i made an appointment to get my airbag repaired according to the recall. Upon repair my car was returned with the "srs"light continually on. The air conditioner unit has broken over and over. I've paid thousands of dollars repairing it. I'm disabled and get very ill in the heat. There was a recall but i was not told of it until i had too many miles on my car because i used to use my car for work as a social worker. But it starting breaking long before the miles were too high. It's defective. And breaking again. There are other issues such as the automatic windows and door locks. The passenger front window does not work at all. And the driver door lock does lock with the auto locks. And the key hole is broken. So every time i drive i have to lock the front door from the back seat and then use the auto lock. The driver visor has been broken for years. It just hangs. So i have to drive with it to the side. And it hangs lower than normal. Which is dangerous because it obstructs my view and i can't use it to block out the sun.i took it in to the dealer and they were going to charge an outrageous amount just to look at it & determine the problem. Which is faulty design. Because these things have been broken for years. I haven't driven much in the last 8 years since i've been permanently disabled. And these issues started long before that. I don't remember the exact date i first got my ac fixed. But i believe it was in 2005. I can search my glove box for paperwork if needed.

Dashboard light went out.dealership replaced the switch, but the problem recurred. Wire harness was then replaced, but the problem still existed.cause of the failure was due to an electrical short. But the dealership could not locate the exact component that was the source of the short.

I owned a 2003 honda cr-v that was purchased from the local honda dealer(honda windward) october 2003. On the 11th of this month of january 2004, while operating the vehicle, the car suffered a fire that totaled out the car. I managed to get out in time, suffering only a twisted knee.

While using the driver side master window switch i smelled an electrical burning smell. Earlier on the same day the right front window failed to move when i used the master switch to control it. The burning smell continued to worsen every time i used the master window switch. My mechanic tracked the problem to the master window switch and removed it. The master switch had melted and the mechanic stated that it could have caused an electrical fire had i continued to use it. Honda has since issued recalls on the master window switch for 2002-2006 honda crvs, however mine was not included; honda stated that the recall was vin-specific and my vehicle was not included. The recall announced on oct. 6, 2012 stated "over time, exposure to water and other fluids can cause electrical resistance in the switch, which ultimately can cause the switch to overheat and melt, damaging the switch and potentially damaging an associated wire harness. Additionally if a switch melts, it could produce smoke and potentially cause a fire, creating a risk to motor vehicle safety." this describes exactly what happened in my 2003 crv, yet honda has refused to include my vehicle stating that it does not qualify for the recall.on june 28, 2013 honda announced an identical recall---this time for the master power window switch in the 2007-08 honda fit. The description of the reason for this recall is identical to the one issued for the 2002-2006 crvs, and identical to the problem i experienced in my 2003 crv.i would like the nhtsa to investigate these dangerous, recurring incidents in honda vehicles and expand the recall of the crvs. My repair cost totaled $476 and i should be reimbursed that amount by honda. More importantly, however, is this recurring safety hazard to honda drivers. I have the master switch that was removed from my vehicle and am willing to provide it for inspection.

On tuesday march 14, 2017 the car window motor started acting up, the window would go down on its own. As i started the car i started i began to smell smoke, it appeared to be coming from driver side door near the window. Upon turning the car off and removing the negative end to thebattery the car began smoking more and in seconds the drivers door was up in flames. I had to run and grab a fire extinguisher from inside. The fire was put out however the door was completely destroyed, the car seat was burned as well as the steering wheel. The vehicle was luckily stationary, and the event occurred on my property where i was able to put the fire out without causing more extensive damage. I noticed online that there were previous recalls for honda and the window switch causing a fire. There had been no previous issues with the window.

Driving kids to school in early morning both headlights simultaneously burned out at same time leaving only parking lights for illumination.drove in dark back home. Later discovered high beams to be functional.was searching online for fix and ran across many people who had same problem and complained of burnt wiring.i removed steeringcolumn cover and found no burnt wires at any connection. Checked bulbs and indeed they were both burned out. Seems odd both lights burned out at exactly the same time??

Low beams went out, then the battery burned up. Replaced bulbs and battery both worked fine for a week then headlights went out both low beams and high. Marker lights are flashing like strobe lights. The brakes are grabbing when you apply them. One side of the rear brakes wear out faster than the other side. The abs and brake light come on until you turn on the fan or lights then they flash on and off.

Both low beam headlights stopped working at the same time.took car to dealer, they replaced wire plug at head light switch and replaced head light switch.they said plastic part had melted. Updated 05/02/11updated ivoq 05/04/11

While driving to work the morning of 4/16/2013 i smelled a strange odor like an electrical component was getting hot or melting.i saw no smoke or fire & other than the smell, could not detect anything deleterious to the operation/handling of my vehicle.when i left work that day, i lowered the windows using the window master switch cluster on the left front door armrest to get fresh air while driving. All the windows lowered but the right rear would not.a co-worker recalled reading about a recall from american honda regarding a possible problem with the driver's master window switch cluster.when i called honda & gave them the vin number for my vehicle they told me my vehicle was not included in the recall.i had my mechanic troubleshoot the issue & he determined the problem was the master window switch cluster.he replaced the switch cluster & disassembled the old one.the old switch cluster plainly shows evidence of & smells like the electrical component overheated as described by information provided by american honda.i believe honda is not adequately taking care of this issue which could lead to fires or other serious safety/property issues.

Both low beam headlights failed/shut off simultaneously during night driving requiring that we pull off the road. Updated 11/25/11 the consumer stated the headlights only worked on high beam. Updated ivoq 02/28/12

Almost 100% of the time i use the remote to unlock and lock the 2003 honda cr-v ex.when recently trying the key, it did not work in the driver's door lock.as a result of discovering this defect, i try the key occasionally for the purpose of seeing what happens in the driver's door lock.other key/lock observations:1.usually the key doesn't even go into the lock.2.sometimes the key goes in the lock all the way, but won't turn either way.3.occasionally the lock works perfectly, with no resistance or apparent problem, leading me to believe that this is a mechanical or electrical issue with the lock.4.each of these sporadic issues happen with two other honda-made "sidewinder" keys for the car, which are like new.(the main key is always used for the ignition and is worn therefrom.)5.the other locks on the car (ignition, front passenger & 5th door) do not experience these problems.honda service claims the locks pins have worn out.how can the lock pins wear out when they are barely used?if the pins have worn out, why does the key go all the way into the lock sometimes?and why does the lock work perfectly sometimes?this is a personal safety issue, as well as an issue regarding a basic function of the car.despite service bulletin 03068 (nhtsa id numbers 10004794 and 10012644), honda service insists that the consumer pay to have the part(s) fixed.this appears to be either a manufacturing or materials defect, or a mechanical or electrical issue which consumer couldn't cause, and for which the consumer should not have to bear the cost to fix.

Both rear doors stopped responding to the main lock at the drivers side from inside.they can only be unlocked manually from the inside of the car. The interior driver door lock when moved up or down manually only works on front two doors. Sometimes the key is sticking and not turning in the driver side door lock. Must try multiple times to finally get it to work.it's only a matter of time before the front door malfunctions as well.

Both low beam headlights not working, both high beams still work. Replaced headlight lamps, low beams still not working. Found defect report online for same system failure. Automatic door locks malfunction.locks do not respond to signal from keyf fob nor from actual door control buttons on door.the vehicle is sitting in a parked position. I believe the door lock actuator is faulty.i suspect it to be a known defect by honda.is there a recall for this problem?i have a 2004 honda cr-v with the same problem.

There is two problems with my 2003 honda cr-v. When car has sat overnight or when the air conditioner was on full and the car was off when we went to start the car it sounded like the main starter had been corroded not allowing the car to start it's not the battery nor the alternator and whats keeping the starter from starting the car only has 92,000 miles. The bigger safety issue is that the tilt steering is not locking allowing it to stay loose while driving, this is a big issue when in motion and cannot find a solution. My two requests are why is the starter going bad so early and why wont the tilt lock into place?

The low beam lights stop to work simultaneously while the high beam and parking lights are fully functional.

Both headlight low beams failed while driving, found cause to be melted electrical wires and connection at headlight switch.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. While in park, the vehicle failed to start. The contact independently replaced the battery twice; however, the failure recurred. Both passenger rear doors stopped responding to the keyless remote.they can only be unlocked manually from the inside of the car.driver door stopped responding shortly there after.have to manually unlock/lock the door with the key.the interior driver door lock can not be moved up or down manually.only the key can move the door lock.now the key is sticking and not turning in the driver side door lock.must try multiple times to finally get it to work.3 out of 4 door locks are faulty and do not work properly.it's only a matter of time before the front passenger door malfunctions as well.

I reported a driver's door rattle very early on (during the warranty period), butno source was found.on 5/09/07(37,792 miles)the driver's door lock/unlock became inoperable, and i could not lock/unlock the door with the remote control; i could not enter or leave the car by using the remote. An "actuator" was replaced at my expense ($161.61). On 07/30/09 (48,565 miles) the same driver's window came off its track, and the track had to bereinstalled at my expense ($90.00) now i read that a differenthonda model has been recalled with what seems to be my same problem.all services have been performed by the same authorized honda dealer. Perhaps there is connection between the problems.

2003 honda crv.consumer writes in regards to power window master switch recall notice and unsatisfactory service from dealership.the consumer stated he was not satisfied with the dealers response concerning his complaint about the problem he experienced with recall # 12v486000. The consumer stated when he called the dealer to make an appointment, he was asked several unnecessary questions, regarding his patronage of the dealership. After the consumer confirmed, he did purchase the vehicle from them, he was given an appointment.

I could not unlock my car and i had to call aaa to unlock the vehicle, i got a ticket for parking during street sweeping time. The key seams to bind into the lock and will not unlock. I took my cr-v in to miller honda where i purchased the vehicle and they quoted me a very high price to fix the locks, i refused the service and the service writer gave me a referral to a locksmith who did the job for a fifth of the price the dealership had quoted. This was about two and a half years ago. I had to take the car back to the locksmith about a year later to have the same work done. Now i have go back for a third time. I have had to spend $250.00 on my locks. This situation of the locks binding could be dangerous for a woman not being able to get into the car quickly.

Vehicle would not start at all, then left it for 2 hours and came back and it started.then 2 months later it is starting fine, but stalling quite often while driving.it will sometimes cut out and then recover and keep going (the check engine light comes on when it cuts out, but goes out again when it keeps going) other times it stalls.the check engine light comes on when it stalls but everything else still works (radio, lights).it has stalled on the highway at 65-70 mph, in the city at 40 mph, also slowing to take a turn.this started out only stalling once in a few days.it is now stalling several times in a day.i don't drive it that far anymore, but i still have to drive it because the garage does not find anything wrong.there were no codes, and they could find nothing. I don'tknow for sure what is happening with it, but reading the forums it sounds like it might be the ignition switch.

Vehicle fire regarding 2003 honda crv. *mr there was overheating of the electrical components that caused the fire.the consumers wife was locked in the burning vehicle.the locks remained activated and would not open from the inside or the outside, even though the ignition was off.the entire vehicle had become filled with heavy black smoke along with the instrument panel warning lights flashing. The consumer was informed that the damage found was consistent with a high resistance condition occurring in the crankshaft sensor oil control solenoid circuit wiring resulting in electrical overheating, resulting in a fire.minor heat and fire damage was sustained to the right front area of the engine starting near the crankshaft pulley extending upwards towards the valve cover area.upon examination of the fuse/relay center located in the passenger compartment revealed a 15 amp fuse protecting the ecu circuit was blown consistent with a component and or electrical failure within this circuit. *scaccording to the technical report, the fire began in the engine compartment and was considered an accident not a manufacturer defect.

Three door actuators have stopped working ds rear, ps front, and read door. In addition, the remaining doors that will lock with keyless entry will lock intermittently.

Lost low beam headlights on 2003 honda cr-v.service bulletin 04-015 describes the exact issue forthe honda civic.i can visibly see theburnt combination light switch 16p connecter when i remove the steering wheel cover.this should be a recall.very dangerous.there are numerous complaints about this issue with this vehicle on-line.

Both low beam headlamps go out. Hi-beam lamps still work. The problem is the contacts on the dimmer switch corrode; there have also been reports of scorched connectors - meaning the possibility of fire. To access the switch you have to remove the steering column cover and then locate the dimmer/turn signal wiring harness. Most consumers would not know how nor be able to do this. This is extremely dangerous. It has been reported many times on internet blogs.

Auto-reverse mechanism works intermittently on the driver side power window.it has power up feature (which i think is a bad idea all-around).it is supposed to auto-reverse if it meets resistance on the way up.in many cases, it does not work and with considerable force applied against the window, it wants to keep pushing up very strongly.this would kill a kid or pet if they got caught in there.wanted dealer to turn it off, but they said it could not be done.i will go back to have them replace unit, as it is dangerous.i am sure they will take care of it, but i want to file a complaint to ensure that honda is aware of the situation and considers offering a recall to avoid causing injury or death.

The driver's side door lock does not work and causes the locks not to work.i am not able to open the driver's door with a key or automatic key.this is a recurring problem which was repaired by way of a temporary repairs by my mechanic in 2013.i was at least able to get into the driver's side with my automatic key but could not open it with the key.now the driver;s side does not work at all.i can only climb in through the passenger side using the key only. Back in 2013 before the temp repairs were made i contacted honda to see if they had a recall and based on my vin # there was no recall the the locks.

Made loud grinding noise and a/c stopped working as i was on the freeway in grid lock trafficthe car does not work and i can not bypass the ac ( this is not an opinion on this car ). So the ac in standard equipment.honda of americasettles a class action law suit for this car model. However they will not help me get my car up and running without me paying for a repair that is due to a bad design by they manufacturer. I can not afford to get it fixed and this ismy only way to get to my doctor and work.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. I believe my 2003 honda crv has a defective ignition switch interlock. The key can be removed when the car is off and the gear is not in park. As a result my crv has rolled down my driveway 3 different times, plowing into the hillside across the street, and recently nearly ran over my wife. On 10/07/10 i took my car to our local honda dealer who said there was no recall for this problem on my car. Honda acknowledged and i believe corrected key interlock failure problems on pre-2003 models and should be required to correct post-2003 crv defective ignition switch interlocks.

My 2003 honda crv ex sustained over $2700 in damage as a result of the following:after pulling into the driveway and turning off the car,i removed the key from the ignition, and exited ,thinking the transmission was in park. It was not in park,it was still in drive.the ignition switch interlock failed!the car rolled backwards on the driveway, striking and damaging afence and narrowly missing a group of teenagers as it rolled into the street.

I just recieved my first oil change at shockley honda in frederick maryland on my honda crv. After driving for about 2 miles my car started to smoke out the back. When i stopped the vehicle, flames shout the hood of my vehicle. The engine compartment was on fire. I called the fire department. The dealer did replace some of the burnt parts in the engine compartment but did not replace the wiring harness. Had to buy a new crv because of this damage. I had substantial expenses not remimbursed by honda.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. The contact was driving 55 mph when the low beam headlights failed without any warning. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the wiring harness had burned. As a result, the wiring harness would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 120,000. The consumer stated the headlights went out while driving. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where they discovered a wire had overheated and melted the harness inside the steering wheel.

Bought new honda crv in may of 2004.on september 26, 2004 while driving the vehicle, it burst into flames.it only had 6,500 miles on it.vehicle was damaged beyond repair.honda will not claim responsibility and said that it was not a warranty issue, although they have never even seen the vehicle.

Takata recall : when i start the car and keep ac on, rattling sound comes and ac stops working. I can see there is one recall for 2002- 2008 honda crv for clutch and ac compressor recall. Published on jun 6, 2014if you own a honda cr-v between 2002 - 2008 then you will encounter a common problem with the ac compressor clutch not engaging properly due to the location and overheating of this part.need help.thanks!

On december 18 my youngest daughter was returning from a babbysitting job..her 2003 crv accelerator stuck open ..for 5 to 7 miles she pressed on brakes as car was accelerating over 100 mph..she managed to slow to 60 and engage neutral while car still revving..and shut off vehicle..no dash or warning lights..the car is now at a honda dealership in chattanooga..the dealer has pics of what happened and brakes were fried as they were new..im 2 1/2 weekks waiting on a reply or investigation from honda ..im out a car and my daughter needs to get to college..she was on a long stretch of highway at incident.which is what likely saved her by the grace of god..or could have been serious injury or death.

When in drive, at a light, with foot on the brake, the engine suddenly accelerates briefly, then returns to normal.this happened 3 or 4 times over the last year or 2.on 06/04/18, when in motion,in reverse, the engine suddenly accelerated. I dropped it into drive, it continued until i braked and jammed it into park, then the engine returned to idle.

My family and i were driving on an interstate, traveling up a slight hill at 65 mph. I stepped on the accelerator to increase power, and the pedal suddenly went right to the floor and the engine rpms increased from 3k to about 5.5k.the crv accelerated rapidly, approaching 80 mph, and i removed my foot from the pedal. The engine was completely unresponsive, and the crv continued to accelerate to 85 mph.at this point, i made sure that the cruise control was turned off.i quickly realized something was wrong, so i began to apply the brakes, gently at first, but the engine was racing and accelerating the crv, so i had to smash on the brake with both feet.i was able to bring the crv down to about 45 mph and exit the interstate at a rest area.once on the off-ramp, i put the transmission into neutral because the brakes were under a lot of stress. The engine rpms shot even higher, so i cut the ignition and coasted into the rest area. We had to call for a tow truck. A mechanic confirmed (as i suspected) that the butterfly valve in the engine throttle body was stuck in the open position. A few days later, a honda parts inspector reviewed the crv and determined that the problem was caused by normal wear and tear, and that we were responsible for paying for a new throttle body. A series of calls with corporate honda ensued, wherein they refused to acknowledge any responsibility for the defective part. After much complaining on my part, honda agreed to pay for a new throttle as long as i would sign a waiver absolving them of all future legal liability. I refused to do so. Ultimately, i worked with my local dealership to trade-in the crv for a newer model.i do not know the fate of the 2003 crv. The incident on the road was horrifying, and then to be treated poorly by corporate honda was infuriating. The national safety database shows that this is not a new problem.

My low beams do not work on 2003 honda crv. I bought the car in 2015, and see there was a low beam headlight recall in march/ april of 2012. Since the issue just started in my vehicle, and there was a prior recall on this issue, i would like the recall to be sent to me. Also, my vehicle is showing a code p1259 vtec system malfunction showing up.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. While in park, the vehicle failed to start. The contact independently replaced the battery twice; however, the failure recurred. The contact removed the remote starter per the dealer's instruction, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was unable to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 137,000.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. The contact stated that the coolant leaked which caused the air conditioning compressor to fail. The steering column overheated. The passenger air bag light illuminated with or without a passenger in the seat. The cruise control activated suddenly at times. The oxygen sensor light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop but the exact causes of these failures could not be determined. The contact called the manufacturer who advised her to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000 and the current mileage was approximately 77,000.

Heater core leaking into passenger side and dripping on passenger's foot.passenger was not injured but potential for burn.

I have a 2003 honda cr-v. While driving on the interstate, the air conditioning stopped cooling. I took the car to my mechanic who said the compressor blew up and most likely contaminated the entire ac system. He referred me to the local dealership for further diagnosis and assistance. The honda dealership confirmed the diagnosis. The entire ac system must be replaced. The local mechanic and dealership acknowledged that this is a known problem with honda cr-vs of the age of my vehicle. They even have a name for it which they put on the ticket - "black death".this is a safety issue because if i were going slow enough the engine could have stopped when the compressor broke apart. If i were on snow i could have skidded the tires or the belt could have broken or maybe slipped. The serpentine belt is very strong so there are times when this very well could be a safety issue. In my case, none of these circumstances happened but i felt this was a situation that must be reported since it is a known issue with these cars.

On my 2003 honda at around 66,000 miles the air conditioning quit working.although i hardly use a/c since i only have a short drive to work.i took the vehicle into a honda dealer.it was reported that the a/c blew up and was contaminated throughout the system.i had to replace everything including lines.although they claim this happens, im concerned since the a/c was rarely used. Clearly a defect in the a/c.ive owned other vehicles with only having to do regular maintenace on the a/c with no problems.this repair costed 2,611.70.i had an extended warrenty which did not help much either.i have been told or read other problems with the a/c in hondas.

Concerned with recent reports of fires associated with 2003 vehicle8n`sugest nhtsa reopen investigation possible design flaw of vehicle.consumers responded to an article in the new york times in reference to fires that have occurred in vehicles like the vehicle they own.they found 80 crv's nationwide suddenly without warning fill up with smoke leaving just moments for passengers to escape before the cars were engulfed into flames and destroyed.*tc

My 2003 crv was making a strange faint squealing sound.shortly after that the air conditioner stopped working, and was running funny.i took it straight to my mechanic.he had to replace the entire unit, at an overall cost of 1,200.00 a week later the same thing happened to my friend with her crv and as i began to search on line, it has happened to 100's of others with the '03 and '04 crv's.i am angry that honda hasn't issued a recall after covering the cost for most of these persons.clearly they are aware of the consistent problem with the air compressor.i am currently waiting to hear back from honda.

Shortly after the first oil change was performed, smoke starting coming from the engine while driving home. This occurred because the oil filter was installed with theexciting o-rings, thus creating an oil leak.the oil dripped on the exhaust. This couldresult in an engine fire. To avoid this from recurring when anthe oil filter and the o-rings had to be replaced.

Vehicle is leaking oil excessively out of the engine, especially after oil changes. Taken to dealer multiple times, but the cause is still undetermined.the consumer stated that he has spoken to dealer several times in reference to the oil leaking on driveway several days after an oil change.the underside of the vehicle remains wet with oil.the consumer stated that there is difficulty gaining access to the oil filter and removing it without spilling the oil.problem still exists.*tc

While driving at 40 mph and after the very first oil change consumer felt the vehicle trembled violently. Vehicle was pulled over, and the consumer smelled something burning.also, consumer saw that oil was dripping out of the vehicle.there had been a report on television concerning the oil filter.the problem with this vehicle was that the mechanic neglected to return the oil pan plug.

2003 honda cr-v air conditioner/compressor blew up at approx 97,600 miles. Mechanic said because of debris, filings, etc., cost for repair is $3800.

My wife's 2003 cr-v has had 3 compressors explode. The first time was at 17,000 miles, the second was at 41,000 miles, and the third was 3 weeks ago at around 65,000. The entire system was replaced 2 times by honda at no cost (once under warranty and the second time as a 'goodwill' gesture). Though they deny any knowledge of a history of air conditioner problems with cr-vs, they have agreed to replace the entire system this third time for only the cost of labor ($699).

Engine light illuminated and vehicle started bucking. *mr the check engine light would continuallycome on, the vehicle would intermittently buck, smoke then shut off, oil was in the filter and the gasket blew out, the vtec system malfunctioned along with faulty solenoid valves, and the oil level was excessively low. *sc

After an oil change on my 2003 honda cr-v, the oil leaked out from the filter locatiion on the back side of the vehicle and the vehicle caught on fire and saturated the underside of the car with oil prompting a complete change on the computer and o2 sensors and other components.

I recently purchased a 2003 honda cr-v ex with 62k miles on it.after driving the car for less than 3k additional miles the air conditioner just stopped working.we were driving with the air conditioner on and then next thing you know it just stopped blowing cold air.i took in to be diagnosed and was told theair compressor needed to be replaced.the total repair cost is about $1200. I haven't had it repaired yet because i don't have the extra cash.looks like this is a widespread problem with honda.

On sunday afternoon august 28th, my 2003 honda crv had an engine fire. The only warning, was a rubbing sound when the car was started but no dash lamps prior to seeing the smoke and subsequent fire.fortunately i was able to safely get my family out of the crv and put out the fire.upon repairing the car at the local honda dealer, they identified the ac compressor as the likely root cause of the fire based on melted clutch drive wires which appear to be the ignition source for the overheated drive belt.since the 2 yr old ac compressor was a four seasons - everco 58881 replacement a/c compressor from auto zone, honda was not interested in any further investigation but they did allow me to keep the damaged ac compressor and drive belt.i spoke with everco customer service however they said they would not deal with the public directly so i discussed this issue with the auto zone district service manager who made an internal inquiry and then said they could not initiate a claim because the component is outside the warranty period.i am disappointed that neither honda, autozone nor everco are interested in a root cause investigation or providing any compensation.fortunately no one was injured in this incident but other crv owners may be less fortunate.i have the damaged hardware and photos which can support an investigation.

While driving the 2003 crv, i heard what sounded like marbles going through the ac vents, then saw a puff of smoke from under the hood, the ac quit blowing cold air. I contacted the dealer who said that this is a common occurrence with the crv, he said contact american honda since you are a loyal customer and the probably would cover it under a good will gesture. No such luck, the person we spoke to said that they would give us nothing, since this is not a honda issue. I requested to speak to some one higher up and the gentleman , stated he makes the decisionso it does not have to go any further than him, i asked how can you be the only person who decides this, i then asked to speak to his supervisor and he stated he would not talk to me any further about this either, that the decision is with him. I requested one more time, he then hung up on me. I called back a day later and got the same results, as soon as you give them your vin # , i got put on hold and sent to the same person as before. I wanted to talk to a different person. I got several estimates now to replace the ac, anywhere from $2900 to $4500 depending on where i take it.honda dealers are requiring the whole system to be replaced, compressor, dryer unit, condenser and lines. Apparently it sends metal particles through out the whole system. If it is not flushed or replaced it will occur again. I have now tried to get the dealer to help the will cover 25% of the cost on parts only. Iwill probably get the system repaired or sell the vehicle as is. Unsure. Parts will be available when i do have it repaired, i will ask for them back. I will continue to call american honda until i receive some type of resolution, my wife is writing a letter to honda. I searched the internet and this seemed to be a major issue with 2002 to 2004 honda crv's . Never buy again.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v.the contact noticed that the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel.when releasing pressure off the brake without applying pressure to the accelerator pedal, the vehicle dramatically lunged forward.she took the vehicle to a local mechanic and they stated that the throttle position sensor caused the failure.the manufacturer did not provide any assistance.the powertrain was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 74,500.

Vehicle is leaking oil whenever it is parked. However, the oil leak gets worse whenever the vehicle is in motion.......vehicle was smoking and leaking oil from oil filter. Dealing did not identify cause, but told consumer to look for oil leaks.

Fax e-mail from (mt) re defective computer in their 2003 honda crv, causes the engine light to come on.a computer read out indicated that al four cylinders were misfiring.

'recall campaign' consumer received recall for srs cable reel and cr-v shift cable update.the valve cover gasket was leaking in the right front corner of the vehicle.there were many occasions in which the vehicle would have no oil.the vehicle would burn oil every 500 miles or less.the consumer requested a new engine or a new vehicle due to her fear that oil may drip and cause the vehicle to catch fire. The problem remained the same. *sc

Complaintconcerning oil leaked all over driveway after oil change. Worried about fires caused by oil filter problem. * bfwhile getting an oil change the consumer noticed a u shaped metal member located directly below the oil filter.when the oil filter was removed the oil splashes over this member as well as other structural members.*tc

While driving 50 mphengine began to produce thick black smoke.dealer stated the oil plug was missing, and all the oilleaked from the engine.

2003 honda cr-v 44,200 miles:bad bearing or pump noise starting coming from engine compartment, stopped and checked (noise varied with engine speed).narrowed noise to area around ac compressor/alternator/belt tensioner.operated vehicle less than 30 minutes from first appearance of noise, then there was a thud, and a clunk looked out the passenger side rearview mirror and saw a something rolling down the street. Noise went away, and ac stopped cooling.went back to see what had fallen off, and found part of the clutch assembly.no apparent damage, vehicle operates minus ac.took vehicle to dealer, was told that he has seen this a four or five times recently, and that he would contact honda, to see what can be done.was later told that honda would cover the repairs.

A/c compressor imploded and damaged the entire system as a replacement cost of $3400.00.

While driving, the vehicle caught fire.the oil was changed on yesterday.the consumer was waiting for a response from the manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2003 honda crv.while driving between 25-30 mph, the compressor seized.the contact was able to continue to her destination.the dealer stated that due to a lack of lubrication, the compressor seized and caused damage to the air conditioning unit.she was first informed that this was an isolated failure with vehicles from another country with specific vehicle identification numbers.her vehicle is no longer under warranty; however, the dealer is willing to pay for half of the repair.the current mileage was 73,000 and failure mileage was 72,000.

The consumer noticed oil leaking from the vehicle.the dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.oil was burnig every 500 miles.*sc

I brought my 2003 honda cr-v ex model in to maine mall honda in south portland, maine for routine 10,000 mile scheduled maintenance, which includes changing the oil, rotating tires and inspecting fluid levels.within 5 miles of leaving the dealers location, the engine caught fire and the car was a total loss.i first noticed smole by looking in the rear view mirror approxiamtely 2 miles after leaving the dealers location.thinking it was just some spilled oil, i kept on driving until i noticed the low oil light come on the dashboard.i pulled the car over and smelled oil.at that point i opened the hood of the car and saw flames in the engine.the maine state police arrived within 5 minutes and determined that the fire was too far progreesed to save the car.the south portland and scarborough maine fire departments arrived within 10 minutes to put out the fire.

The ac compressor on my 2003 honda cr-v, 60917 miles, destroyed itself internally causing the engine to cut off.i had difficulty pulling the car off the road since there was no power steering.local honda dealer said the compressor came apart sending metal shavings throughout the system.this will require a complete a/c system replacement, cost $3300.after checking on the internet, this seems to be an ongoing problem with the cr-v.

Within the past year i have had both fans go out because the entire system was "contaminated." also, the fan under the dash (the blower) has quit and i needed a new relay switch. They split the cost of the two fans in the engine compartment but they said the fan under the dash was separate. Altogether it cost me over 1800 dollars. Now i find out that there have been 35 complaints about the air conditioning system in the 2003 crv. I think it is a factory problem and they should have a recall.....and give me back some of that money. 35 complaints??isn't that enough to signal a recall??

The a/c compressor failed after only 3 years of buying it brand new from the dealership. There have been numerous complaints concerning the same equipment failure from other buyers.

Air conditioning system failed at 60000, compressor arm snapped causing containments to enter system, need the whole system replaced.

Honda 2003 crv with 52,000 miles.aircon just broke suddenly failed to blew cold air.contacted american honda but they wont admit that this is a known problem for crv owners even though there's a lot of same complaints already for the air con system of crv 2003.

2003 honda cr-v bought new. Air conditioning condenser just went out - looks like clutch went then the compressor blew. In looking at other sites, lots of people are having this problem. Following their advice and putting this in.

I was driving on the interstate and starting hearing my engine make strange grinding-like noises. At first i thought it was a tire, but it would come and go so i knew that wasn't it. I stopped a few miles later and when i pulled in the parking space and stopped, the engine made an incredibly loud grinding noise and died. I tried to restart it and it made the same loud noise and died again. When i turned off the a/c, it started okay, but then turning on the a/c killed it again.apparently, the a/c compressor failed, and contaminated the complete a/c system.the complete a/c system had to be replaced.i was lucky in that the honda service manager at my dealership apparently realizes that there is something terribly wrong with the 2003 cr-v; he had had four other 2003 cr-v''s come in for repair for the exact same problem over the course of only a few months. He was able to get his dealership to cover the cost of the parts.my 2003 cr-v was bought from a different dealership than the one where we had the repairs done, so there was basically nothing he could do to have them cover the labor. We ended up paying $1074.76. I feel that honda should have covered this completely, and the service manager told me the same thing. My husband and i have contacted honda directly as he suggested, but we have not received any type of response.this is our second major engine problem with this car. The first one was with the emissions system (also cost over a thousand dollars). Both of these problems occurred in our neighbor's identical vehicle.

Ac compressor blew up causing extensive damage to the entire ac system.compressor sent metal pieces through entire system after it blew up.quoted over $3000 from honda for repair.called american honda and they refused to help stating it is bc the car has over 36,000 miles.however, hundreds of people on the internet were helped by honda with the same mileage as my crv.it makes no sense.i believe that if anything is "blowing" up under the hood of my car (as honda described it) it is a safety issue.honda should take responsibility for something they know is a problem.this is negligence!look up www.honda-lawsuit.com for information on a class action lawsuit about this issue.

Air conditioning stopped working at about 70,000 miles. This is a well-known problem with 2003 and 2004 crvs. Be sure to complain to honda america and ask them for assistance. They should pay for the compressor and you might have to pay about $400 in labor.

My honda crv with 45589 milesdated may 28, 2007 ac died, had to pay $1546 to change the compressor.

While driving on the freeway, my 2003 honda crv starting making a loud whining noise in the engine compartment and then it sounded like a metal part fell off the car.i immediately pulled off the road and found that everything was running fine except the air conditioner.there was still freon in the system, but i later found out that the compressor was ruined.our car only had 48,000 miles when this happened.a rebuilt compressor for this car is not available anywhere because the old compressors are not rebuildable.the bill for this failure was over $1,700.00.

My ac system went out at about 80,000 mi. The honda dealer said both fans had burnt out and the whole system was contaminated. They split the cost with me but it still cost me $1600. I asked if there was a recall and he said there wasn't but the number of complaints i am seeing make me feel that honda should take more responsibility. The system failed. I did nothing to cause it. I feel cheated and am now looking at toyota for a replacement car.

Air compressor exploded on 2003 honda crv.honda will only pay for half the damage, and this seems to be a documented problem with this particular part.if honda has an ongoing issue with this part, they should either recall the part or pay for the entire cost of replacement.here is a link showing 22 pages of this same problem occurring with others.http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tu0okfjgv9v3f3fglthank you for looking into this matter.

I own a 2003 honda cr-v with only 54,400 miles and the a/c just stopped working. I just took my car to midas shop to get a/c recharge. I was told after inspection that there is a leak on the a/c compressor. The cost to repair will be close to $1400.

2003 honda crv a/c compressor blew damaging condenser and other parts requiring complete replacement.this is a known honda issue per research on the internet.honda has been covering 100% of costs.i was offered 75% replacement costs.i asked for an appeal as i live in 100 heat (tucson) with two children and cannot afford $500/25% to replace the a/c and is a hardship to me.they denied the assistance.

The a/c compressor of my 2003 honda crv locked up and it needs to be replaced. The failure occur at about 64,000 miles.

Air-condition in my car stopped blowing cold air. It started in the summer of 2006. Honda dealer couldn't find what the cause of the problem is. They couldn't even find any leaks to the system. To remedy, i've been having the freon charged every summer. That would usually last until the cold season starts when i don't have to use the a/c again.

I have a 2003 honda cr-v and the a/c compressor died after some rattling sounds while on the highway. The dealer wants $3200 to fix it. My research on line and in talking to repair shop tells me this is not an unusual problem. I am told multiple parts have to be replaced when the compressor goes in this model. This seems to be a design flaw. I feel honda should have to recall and pay for this design flaw.

A loud rattling noise suddenly started in the engine compartment while driving and the air conditioner stopped cooling.took the car to honda and problem was diagnosed as a failed a/c compressor which contaminated the entire system.estimated cost of repair was $3500.service adviser called it the "black death".car has been driven only 23,000 miles.honda agreed to pay 90% of the repair costs as part of their "good will warranty" .

2003 honda cr-v ac compressor failed at 69,000 miles.rainy conditions caused interior windshield to continually fog up requiring repeated wiping of the windshield with paper towels while driving.

Just driving down the expressway and i hear a loud noise and my a/c stops working....it was 94 degrees in the midwest!got home that night and my tire was flat.i took my tire to get fixed and they pulled shards of metal out of the tire, which was new!when i took the car to get the a/c looked at, they said that the compressor had blown for no apparent reason and that it would be $1700 to repair!!!!! they told me that when the compressor blew, it sprayed pieces of metal throughout my car, and obviously into my tire! i called honda of america, and they offered to split the cost.i had no choice but to take this offer as it was summer and temperatures were over 100 with the heat index!honda refused to give me the damaged part.there are sooo many complaints against this same event happening, but honda refuses to do anything about it.there is a class action law suit, if you want to join.the more that join, the better the chances of getting honda to take responsibility.i have only owned honda's, but will now be buying a toyota!so disappointed in honda!

At approx 80,000 miles air conditioning compressor went (would not blow cold air).dealer indicated repair would require replacement of complete system due to contaminants - as i live in the north not sure this is worth it.definitely a common problem in crv's although my dealer feigned ignorance.

I have a 2003 honda cr-v.recently, the a/c stopped blowing cold air and began making a horrendous knocking noise.i took it to the dealer today and they informed me that the a/c compressor had "blown up" and contaminated the entire cooling system w/ metal fragments.total cost to repair = $3200.00.according to the following forum there are nearly 400 other cr-v owners who have reported exactly the same scenario.http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tu0okfjgv9v3f3fgl/p18honda has been paying partial repair costs on this, but with such a widespread problem this ought to be cause for a recall of the compressor and a/c clutch.

Just got in my car one day and turned on the air conditioning, a strange smelling mist starts coming out from the all the vents. This happens numerous times over the past 5 years. Took the car in, the dealership said of course there was nothing they could do unless it was happening right when they look at it.so around the summer months of 2008 when i would turn on the air it would be heat, i would have to turn the a/c switch from cold(blue) to hot(red) and then back to cold. For some reason the a/c would get cold at that time. Still with this strange smelling mist coming from the vents.i took my car into the honda dealership may 2009 for a safety recall & asked if they would look at my a/c again. They told me i was leaking freon & now as of that day, it was empty. Strange since there was cold air on my drive to the dealership. They said they needed to find the leak and could come to very expensive repair cost, until they fix each little thing and find where it is leaking from.i told them about the strange smelling mist and asked if that could be freon? his reply was probably. No repairs made as of yet since it will be over $3500.00 to fix.

Air conditioner failed to function requiring a $3,875.00 repair.upon investigation honda knows about this defective part but refused to pay for the repair.

My 2003 honda cr-v a/c starts blowing warm air on july 7th, the same day afternoon i heard rattling sound in engine compartment. Honda dealer checked and confirm the ac compressor blew up inside. They recommended to replace the compressor, clutch, coil set and condenser all. I checked edmonds.com and hondasuv.com and found out this is a common problem with 2002-2005 honda cr-v. Called honda, they will not take any responsibility.

A/c compressorissue, compressor explodes sending metal fragments through out rest of system corrupting entire a/c system.dealer looked at it and knew pretty well right off whole a/c system had toreplaced.

Honda crv 2003 ex air conditioning compressor failure.

Consumer stated after thefirst oil change oil began to leak from the vehicle. Dealer stated because of the design of the vehicle it was difficult to change the oil filter without creating a puddle of oil on top of the frame rail.

The air conditioning on my 2003 honda cr-v suddenly began to blow warm air and make noise under the hood.i took it to the dealer where i purchased the car and they said it was my compressor and replaced both the clutch and compressor for $1400.the service tag says "compressor has an internal failure repl compressor assy"so this failure was not due to road debris.

Our honda dealer serviced our 2003 honda cr-v the last week of june in preparation for a round-trip from miami to south carolina.after spending a few days in sc, we left the car sitting for 4 days at an airport, then drove it around in sc for two days prior to starting return trip to miami.about 3 hours into return trip, the air conditioning began blowing warm air.i read the entire owners manual and tried all of its suggestions.the green on/off light remained on regardless of how many times i pushed it, and the air remained fan rather than air conditioning.about a half hour later, we heard a loud noise and thought that another vehicle had hit road debris that bounced against our car.in the side mirror, i saw a black plastic piece about the size of a medium sized pancake.we drove for approximately another half hour before the heat became unbearable, so i called the service manager at the dealer that had serviced the car and asked for advice.he suggested that we pull over and turn the car off and back on to see what happened.the air conditioning still was on fan, but the car heated up.he thought that we had had a problem with the cooling fan motor or that we had blown the compressor's drive belt / clutch.apparently, that is what happened.the car has approximately 33,400 miles on it and was still under the 36,000 warranty.during service prior to the the trip, we requested that a new air conditioning filter be installed because of construction dirt in our neighborhood.

The clamps on the radiator were not properly sealed at the time the vehicle was manufactured. As a result the engine over heated while driving at highway speed. The anti freeze leaked out onto the engine compartment. The dealership tightened the clamp, but the head gasket blew a day later. *nlm

My 2003 honda cr-v began having trouble keeping oil levels normal for the past year or so.i requested that honda check out the issue a couple of times; honda was never able to find any issues (i.e., the car was not burning oil or leaking oil anywhere).last week while i was driving, my car abruptly dies in the middle of the street.the timing chain had jumped four notches and bent the valves.according to my extended warranty (even though i have proven that i have performed all of the necessary maintenance) i am responsible for the damages to this car.i find it lucky that i was not driving on the freeway when this happened, since my car so abruptly stopped.i am curious if others are having similar problems with their 2003 honda cr-vs.

6 days after having throttle cable recall and a/t shift cable recall and o/c, car burst into flames (totaled) while driving 20-25 mph. Honda says not defect? car had 8200 miles on odometer. No evidence that oil from o/c caused fire.honda investigations has no answer. Fire started or was first evident in drivers wheel well area.*la

While driving 35 mph, the consumer was informed that the vehicle was on fire.the vehicle was pulled to the side and the fire was extinguished by bystanders.the fire department was called and no injuries were reported.the consumer later discovered that the oil filter and installation of oil filterwas defective.*tc

While driving 25 mph vehicle caught on fire under the engine area. Fire was extinguished, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. Dealer informed the consumer that the problem was due to the oil leaking from the oil filter.

On march 2,2005, i had a routine oil change performed on my 2003 honda crv ex ( 27000 miles) at saccucci honda in middletown ,ri . Upon next startup (four days later) , my wife noticed a oil & smoke smell coming from the vehicle after a few miles. The smoke was apparently from oil dripped onto the tail pipe. The oil also dripped onto my garage floor. This is the second incident at the same dealership with this same issue ( see odi id number10090704). Not sure if this is fresh oil or old oil spilt during change. Dealer is cleaning frame rail.

Concerns regarding vehicle fire after oil change. *mr the consumer suggested that this vehicle was known to catch fire if the oil filter was not properly installed at regular oil changes.the consumer also requested additional information on this issue. *sc

Concerns regarding fires following oil changes in 2003 crv.*mrthe passenger seat belt jammed and the drivers door lock failed.

Consumer complained about an engine. Problem.vehicle began leaking oil, and caught on fire under the hood. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, andwas told by the dealer thatrepairs would be paid by the consumer.

My 2003 honda cr-v ex 4wd had an engine fire one morning after i started the car 10 minutes later.the weather temperature was in the teens that morning.it was a total loss, it burned completely.the only recent work done to the car was its first 3000 mi oil change.i purchased this car in september 2003, and this engine fire happened on january 07, 2004.the car had 3300 miles on the odometer.i've searched nhtsa.gov web site's database, and found that there was another incident that is very similar to my situation.i've also found messages posted to newsgroups on edmunds.com that other people had the same engine fire after oil change. I am very concerned about the safety of this vehicle, and would like the government to launch an investigation against the 2003 honda crv's

2003 honda crv, ann morris driving to work alone, approximately 7.30am, smelt a gas type smell in side car and then noticed smoke coming out of underneath the dashboard.immediately ann pull of the road into a near by k-mart plaza.ann then called aaa for assistance.the crv was taken by a aaa agent to the nearest honda dealer, lanier honda, near buford, ga. Honda found no problem with vehicle, only a leaky oil filter. The crv oil was changed in july at the walmart in suwanee, ga.this was the second oil change, at the same walmart.it was noticed that oil was leaking following the second oil change with oil stains under the car in the garage, immediately following the 2nd oil change, but the it stopped or seemed too. Faulty emissions sensor shortly after the warranty was up. 2003 honda crv has 38,000 miles on it. Had to pay for the labor. Was able to get dealer to get the manufacturer to pay for the part.

During a routine oil change at 17,000 mile at saccuci honda dealership on my 2003 honda crv ex, that night i noticed oil dripping freely onto the frame and exhaust pipe. Honda fixed the problem the next day, but dismissed the problem, stating that the oil filter must have been bad.the possibility of a fire starting on my car was very real.

In 2003 , we bought a new honda crv. The vehicle has performed wonderfully. We took it in for its 110,000 mile service and we were told the air conditioner was inoperable. The pump was seized. We asked if this was common and the service manager said that it's " a higher incidence than honda likes." i went online and was appalled at the number of identical complaints. I heard a growling noise in october (the last time we used the ac) which was the ac pump seizing up. This is epidemic according to the online forums (i searched 'honda ac problems' and was overwhelmed) and needs to be addressed. The dealership quoted $3000+- to fix it.

A/c compressor "implode" on my honda cr-v (2003) ex model. Will cost outrageous amount to fix and have read at least 800 complaints about similar issues at edmunds and other on-line car talk blogs and chat rooms.honda should fix this problem for its loyal customers.

The air conditioner stopped working. I took it to a repair shop and they found a hole in the bottom of the compressor. They will have to replace the compressor, flush the system, repalce the dryer and then charge the system. The vehicle only had 62500 miles on it and the compressor should last alot longer than that. It will cost $756.24 to repair the system and that is if these are the only parts that need to be replaced. I am asking for the reimbursment to reapair the air conditioner.

Door lock failed/jammed on rear door.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. While traveling at 60 mph, there was an abnormal hissing coming from the a/c vents followed by the a/c becoming inoperable. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where he was advised that the entire a/c system would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The current and failure mileage was 76,000.

2003 crv - air conditioner started making clanging noise, then smoke came from under hood.turned off air, took it to the dealer.they referred to the problem as the black death"because metal shards went everywhere and ruined the whole air conditioning assembly.vehicle was 200 miles away from the end of the honda extended warranty of 100,000 miles.warranty covered completely new air conditioning system.if not for the warranty, dealer said , that the whole assembly alone at their cost would be $3800, not including labor.

This is in connection with the air conditioner compressor.head a clicking noise when i pulled into my drive way. Opened the hood and noticed that the sound was coming from the compressor section.i turned off the switch to the air conditioner and the clicking noise stopped. I turned it back on and the compressor blew up with white steam. Took it to the dealer the following day and was told the compressor was cracked and that i need a new compressor, replaced with the clutch, coil filter to the tune of $1502 plus tax.i went on the internet to check on this issue and found a lot of identical complains dealing with the honda crv 2003 and 2004 series. Mine is 2003. Although there many other links, the one i noted was topix.com. Everyone complained about identical problems and diagnostics and cost. At the monet honda america has decided to share the repair cost with me which i have accepted. But it seems that this is an occurring issue.please let me know if others have filed similar complaints with you.thanks

2003 model honda crv entire a/c system failed at 60,000 miles, honda america refused to cover the repair cost.

Air conditioner went out at 36,000 miles no warning. Cost $1500. My extended warranty covered part but not all. Shredded metal all through out the air conditioner. Had to wait 7 hours for a repair as dealer 50 miles away honda crv 2003.

Not safety related.air conditioner a(/c) compressor and clutch dryer replaced.2003 honda crv.45000miles this is something that should last a long time. Defect in compressor.make in japan keihin ev0333564 hs-110r.

During operation of the vehicle a loud thump was heard then the air conditioner stopped operating. I pulled off the road thinking there was a flat tire. The vehicle was taken to a honda dealer in tampa for inspection where it had been serviced. The problem is that the sealed a/c compressor failed and ingested an internal componet then distributed small parts though the sealed pressurized system thereby causing other a/c system componets to fail. This major failure requires a complete a/c system replacement. The service manager is aware of thisfailure and stated that honda is aware of it as well. He estimates this occurs to 1 in 25 vehicles. The estimated repair cost is $2600.00 to $2800.00. The vehicle is a 2003 honda cr-v with 50,000 miles. There has been one other documented complaint about this system on this model. Honda is reviewing at this timewhether they will cover the cost of repair as this is an unusual failure.i am aware that this part was redesigned in 2004. Please investigate this because with no a/c system there is no defroster capabilities thereby creating visibility and safety concerns.

I was driving on the freeway and i heard a noise that sounded like something fell off the car.after the noise, the air conditioner was blowing out hot air.i turned the air conditioner off and went straight to the dealer. Since it was late in the day,the dealer could not look at the vehicle, but a mechanic told me "off the record"that the condenser probably fell off the vehicle, and that it will probably be expensive to fix.he said that this was a known problem with this particular make/model/year. I stopped using the airconditioner and returned ata later time to get the problem fixed.and sureenough the dealer wanted almost $3,000- to fix the problem.the problem was fixed, but i had to pay half the cost which i thought was unfair. My car has had all of its scheduled maintenance on time and performed by the dealer, so the car was in excellent condition.why did the condenser fall off the car...and why did i have to pay for it???obviously, the part or parts are faulty from the manufacturer.

My air conditioning in my '03 crv stopped cooling. I took it in and after authorizing repairs found out that both fans had quit and the whole system was contaminated. Honda offered to split the difference with me so i paid half, about 1500 bucks. It seems to me that if over 800 complaints have been registered that honda could do better by us loyal customers. I am thinking of toyota next time.

2003 honda cr-v. Consumer writes in regards to air conditioning failure. *ldthe consumer stated the vehicle was not included in the recall even though it experienced the same failure addressed i the recall.

Consumer vehicle a/c stop working due to a bad compressor.the consumer was not satisfied with the length of time it was taking the sales dealer to rectify the problem, therefore the compressor was replaced by a local mechanic.the day after the repairs were made thecompressor began making noise and the consumer could feel power draining.the consumer had to wait two weeks for another compressor.

2003 honda cr-v air conditioner failure.grinding noise over the course of a few minutes, then complete failure.repair shop said there were small metal parts throughout the system.

I had a problem with the air-conditioning system in my 2003 honda cr-v. When i took it to my dealership, i was told that the a/c system was not functioning and that metal shards from the compressor had traveled throughout the a/c system and condemned many components. The dealership was authorized replacement of the a/c components to be paid by honda and the labor to be paid by me. The dealership informed me that the total bill would be approximately $2500 and that my portion would be approximately $700. I spoke with a csr and expressed my dissatisfaction with honda''s decision.i told the csr that i wanted full reimbursement for the a/c problem because the car was only 2years old, this was not an isolated case and honda was aware that it had a defective part(s). The csr encouraged me to take honda''s deal stating that this is the best offer that i would be given and that if i continued to ''push'' my complaint that honda could withdrawal the offer. I explained to her that i would accept the offer (despite being dissatisfied) and that once the car was fixed and the parts paid for by honda, i would express my dissatisfaction again. I told her that i felt like i couldn't really make a valid complaint given the fact that the reimbursement could be withdrawn. Basically, i felt that honda was saying ''take it or leave it'' the particulars don''t matter.needless to say, i am still dissatisfied with honda''s position and i am asking for full reimbursement of all the work done in connection with the a/c system. I do not understand why this is not a recall item. I''m also concerned that there may be safety risks given the fact that ''metal shards traveled throughout the system and condemned many components". I do know that a 2year old car that has been well maintained should not have such a major problem.

The contact owns a 2003 honda crv. The contact stated thatwhile driving at 40 mph, the air conditioner independently shut off. The dealer advised that the manufacturer was aware of the failure in his year, make and model. The dealer also advised that the air conditioner compressor could lock and the serpentine belt could fracture causing a loss of power steering. Air conditioning failed twice in honda cr-v. At 37,000 miles, and again at 56,000 miles.

Dt: contact statedthe air conditioning quit working this week.the compressor disrupted into the engine.the vehicle is at the service dealer to determine if there was damage to the engine.the service mechanic stated there was shrapnel all over the engine.also, there had been three other incidents where the air condition compressor disrupted.there was no evidence that there was anything wrong within the air conditioner.consumer stated they heard a noise coming from the air conditioner, and then the consumer quit using the air conditioner.consumer has contacted the manufacturer, and they told her to contact nhtsa.

Without any prior problem or indication of a problem, something dropped off the bottom of my car into the road. At that exact moment, the air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. I took the car to have it repaired only to find out that the a/c compressor had blown (and the clutch had fallen off). I have since found out that this is a very frequent occurrence with second generation honda cr-v's. I am in the process of working with american honda motors as well as my dealership to have it repaired. Honda knows of this problem, and the part was redesigned for the 2004 model. This part needs a recall! how many people have to complain before there is a formal recall?

Dear reviewer of my complaint please take a look at the is website to better get a understanding of where i am going with this.http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0d3fb5/0. I own a 95 accord with 130k and never had to get the compressor fixed....my wife's 2003 honda cr-v49,000 miles just went...honda told me $1400.00+tax. I have a 1 year old daughter. You know how the weather gets here on the east cost in the summer? also i drive my 80 year old grandmother to the market and places she needs to go. What about when the windows fog up in the winter. How can you drive if you can't see. I could see if this was my 95 accord a/c that went. I found that website of hundreds of complaints of 02, 03 and 04 honda cr-v owners that the same thing happened to them. Some with on 20k miles.this should be a recall for a bad compessor . Maybe because people don't see it as a safety issue. I can drive without a/c and live, but when you need to transport a baby or 80 yr old grandmother in 100 degree weather even hotter in the car with the windows down. Maybe it's the fact that they can put a crappy compressor in the car and have people come back and pay anywhere up to $2000.00 if there warranty expired. Then they tell you, you should of bought the extended warranty or that you should trade the car in and get a new one.you use the a/c just say 1/2 year. If this was the abs, srs or seat belts, there would be a recall to fix it .but for a bad part of the a/c nothing is done, a/c not a safety problem. From that website above "when driving down the road my compressor blew-up and parts where being spread all over the highway!. When windows fog up what are you to do. Have a rag next to you at all times to wipe your windows. I called honda and they gave me a case number they know about this problem. Just don't want to make it public. Why would they be willing to pay for the parts and repair to other owners who called customer relations.

Air conditioning failure.

2003 honda crv a/c compressor blew apart while driving on highway @ 65 mph-a few pieces of it escaped onto the road surface-have been researching and found many similar complaints about the crv compressor failing on 2001-2004 models. Please see website town-talk edmunds.com w/same problem.according to reports on that website, honda has been replacing the compressor, for most, free of charge, but some vehicle owners are reporting that the problem is recurring...

I have a 2003 honda crv with 66,000 original miles. With no warning, the air compressor locked up, sending shards of metal throughout the a. C. System and ruining the whole system. Honda corp. Of america is "checking my good customer status", with no return call thus far. The local dealership has assessed the a.c. To confirm the entire a.c. Needs to be replaced for $2100.00. All the parts are in stock to fix the a.c. System, and the dealership admits to fixing this problem many times. Internet forums target this very problem, and honda is not admitting faulty equipment.the a.c. Has not been replaced, and i don't know if any other damage may occur from the a.c. System failure.

Consumerstated that the dealer indicated that the use of a cell phone inside the vehicle will cause the air bags to deactivate.

Consumer found errors in the owners manual regarding the oil change. Its stated that the oil should be changed every 10,000 miles.the consumer contacted the dealer who stated it should be changed every 3,000 miles.the dealer then called the honda 800 number and was told that the oil should be changed every 5000 miles.the consumer is concerned about the indifference. *nlm

While driving on the expressway, both of my lowbeams went out at the same time. I switched to my highbeams and they worked fine. Upon getting it checked out, the headlights were still good, as were the fuses and relays. The diagnosis pointed to the switch, but that has not been opened or replaced yet.

2003 honda crv--headlight low-beams repeatedly going out.have replaced them twice.cleaned connector in steering column last time, and low-beams came back on (obvious corrosion/signs of over-heating noted).this time i have re-cleaned connector, but low-beams still out.will try replacing both bulbs.i have read on internet that this is a somewhat common problem with this vehicle.

I purchased a new 2003 cr-v in 2003. In the fall of 2003 a vehicle struck the cr-v in the right frontarea. The cr-v was repaired at a local dealer's body shop. Due to a parts shortage it was several weeks before the repairs were completed. In spring of 2004 i replaced a headlamp that had quit burning on low beam setting. The opposite bulb stopped working a few days later and was replaced. About 4 months after replacing the first bulb another i experienced another bulb failure on low beam setting. I replaced both head lamp bulbs and went another 4 months or so before experiencing another failure. Since this problem began i have replaced an average of 8 headlamps (4 sets)per year. When discussing the issue with the dealer's service department it was thought that a wire may have been pinched during the collision. During the initial discussion of this problem i tended to agree that it would be cost prohibitive to determine the cause of the problem. Approximately 4 weeks ago i replaced both headlamps in the cr-v. On 9/02/11 i noticed a strong burning odor while driving the vehicle. The odor lasted for about 10 minutes. Later that day my wife and daughter drove the cr-v. Upon their return home i was informed that the low beam headlights were not functioningrequiring them to drive home using the high beam lamps. Previously that day i had parked the vehicle in a deck and knew that at that particular time both lamps were functioning on low setting. I went to replace both lamps today but neither replacement would burn on a low setting. Further research via internet led me to the information regarding this problem. After learning that other individuals had experienced the same issue and filed a report with the nhtsa i felt that adding my name and experiences might prove beneficial in determining the cause of the problem. Thank you.

Both headlight low beams failed while driving, found cause to be melted electrical wires and connection at headlight switch.

Lowbeams went out when i got off work but highneams were working.i bought new bulbs the next day and the problem unchanged.so i checked all fuses and relays those were all fine.i proceeded to remove the steering column cover and disconnected the connectors and the gray one had what looks like rust and or melted.this is very alarming because until i can replace the connector i have to drive home at nights with high beams.this may cause an accident and or me getting pulled over for having highbeams on. I do have a picture of said connector i took today 8/16/21.

Complete loss of low beam headlights on 2003 honda cr-vconnector in steering column apparently exposed to high heat or fire, causing melting of plastic parts in connector and corrosion to metal pins in switch.updated 05/02/11after realizing neither headlight was working, the consumer purchased and installed two new bulbs. It appeared the problem was resolved. But a few days later, the lights were out again. The consumer stated afterdoing some research online, he opened the steering column panels and looked at the wiring harness. He found agrey connector housing with one of the slots charred and melted. The corresponding pin looked corroded.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and attempted to describe the problem. They changed the bulbs again, and refused to look in the steering column. The bulb change worked temporarily.the changing of the bulbs moved probably moved the wiring enough to complete contact so that the headlights worked. Further driving would loosen the wires and the headlights would go out. I noticed that the most recently built honda crv's seem to have poorly focused headlights.i drive once a week and last night i drove 100 miles and experienced a problem with headlights reflected in the driver side rear view mirror, the vehicle was late model crv with the tall tail lights. Driving back home i experienced the same problem again a late model crv.i though it might of been high beams but after the second incident i thought it might be the headlight design. Shortly after the second crv, i noticed the third vehicle with blinding headlights and again it was a late model crv.i observed a couple of other crv's pass without a problem, they were the older crv's with the shorter tail light assemblies. I believe that this could be a badly designed headlight assembly on the latest crv's. Brian blum former summer intern in the office of technology assessment 1980.

My cr-v at times does not have any power after being stopped at a stop sign. I have to put the pedal down all the way to the floor and it barely moves. This problem almost caused an acident at a busy intersection one day. This has happened several times now. The honda dealer says it's the air-conditioning coming on at the same time that i am giving it power. This does not seem right, there has to be something else wrong. I have had it back to the garage twice now.

Shortly after the first oil change was performed, smoke starting coming from the engine while driving home. Smelled gas and noticed the vehicle was using an excessive amount of gas for the distance traveled. The next day i had to stop for gas again (had just gotten gas the previous day) and as i was putting the nozzle back into the gas pump, gas started gushing from underneath my vehicle. Approximately 20 minutes later it slowed to a drip and then completely stopped a few minutes afterwards. A store employee came to assist and he thought it was an overflow issue and thought it would be okay to drive. We'd pushed the vehicle to a dry area before cranking it to make sure it didn't leak anymore. On the way home, within a 10 mile stretch i lost half of a tank of gas. That was on a wednesday, i didn't move the vehicle again until friday morning. The ground was saturated with gas when i left for work that friday morning. I'd already arranged to drop it off at the auto shop that morning before work. The engine light came on within minutes of leaving home. The shop determined it was a cracked washer/nut that secures the fuel pump inside the tank. The pump was literally sitting at the top of the tank hitting underneath the back seat. The shop mechanic said it was a miracle it didn't catch fire and blow up. It's back in the shop again because it's still leaking gas. The ground where i park was saturated again for the past 3 days (i'd moved it to a different spot every day for several days to determine it was still leaking. It'd remained parked for the past 3 days except for moving it over to a dry spot. I had to stop for gas on the way to work this morning, although i should've had enough to get there but the gas hand was dropping. I filled the tank up and when i reached my destination i was back down to half a tank. I drove 45 miles from where i got gas. I called the auto shop and they're currently trying to determine where the gas is coming from.

I purchased the 2003 honda crv from anthony auto sales in thomson, ga on 2/21/2020. After purchase i noticed my cigarette lighter/charging port didn't work.

The ac compressor and drier on my 2003 honda cr-v failed and contaminated my whole entire ac system. Contaminants from the compressor have been released. This issue is common for honda crvs from the earlier 2000ā€™s, because the compressors are substandard. Unfortunately honda never alerted me of the faulty ac compressor, so i could ensure the ac compressor was replaced in time. Due to this substandard ac compressor, my whole entire ac system needs to be flushed and replaced. I have a new baby and i am not sure if she or i inhaled any contaminants from this issue. This issue was checked and confirmed by a mechanic, and the vehicle is available for inspection. I did not receive any alert or warning messages from my car for this issue.

Engine suddenly looses power, dropping from 70-75 mph to 30-35 mph while traveling on interstate - all in heavy/fast-moving traffic. No noise. Or warning. Managed to limp to exit. Starts right back up once ignition is turned off. This has happened three times since i bought the vehicle in dec. 2016. Last time was 1/27/2017. No records on vehicle. Was bought at auto auction thru a supposedly reputable dealer...no help there.

Similar to an nhtsa campaign no. 19v053000 of honda 2017-2019 ridgelines recall, there is a hairline crack on the fuel pump feed port of my 2003 honda cr-v that is 'spewing' gasoline whenever the car key is in "on" position, and much more leakage when the engine is running. There is no engine code that is showing in my dashboard. The vehicle is running fine. The only indication is a very strong smell of gasoline in the cabin, and traces of fuel leak from underneath the vehicle (along the outside of the gas tank).

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. While reversing out of the driveway and depressing the driver side window switch, it failed to operate. In addition, the interior dome light failed to illuminate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 215,213.

Had trouble also with the remote, unable to unlock doors, had to replace sensor at my expense in order to work. 2003 crv honda.

Door locks failing.two doors do not respond to master lock or keyless entry.must manually lock and unlock.potential safety issue if trying to open doors from outside to remove child from carseat, etc.

The driver door lock will not operate via remote key-less control.all other locks work.

Door lock failed/jammed on rear door.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. The contact stated that the four automatic power door locks failed to engage. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 87,112.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v.the contact has been experiencing failures with the driver's side door lock for six weeks.whenever she places the key into the lock, it jams, will not insert all the way, and takes numerous attempts to unlock the door.in order to open the driver's side door, she must open the passenger door and unlock it from the inside.the dealer stated that this was a very common failure that honda has not yet recalled.they further stated that the lock assembly was defective and needed to be replaced.the contact believes that if the failure is so common, a recall should have been issued.the failure still persists and the vehicle is currently in her possession.the current and failure mileages were 70,000.

On 7/29/03 at about 7:45 am my grandson opened the hood of my new honda crv in order to get a "jump start" to start his car.i closed the hood, heard a snap, gently tested the hood for closure and moved on.at about 10:00 am i started to burlington and after about 10 miles, while on the interstate doing 60 mph, the hood flew open and banged against the windshield.thanks to scant traffic and about a 2 inch slot below the hood, i was able to pull safely to the side of the road.i was able to force the hood (reshape) enough to get it closed and drive on.at about 11:30 returned to the dealer (shearer honda in rutland vt) where the head mechanic and service manager determined that the hood latches worked correctly.they noted "creasing" of the coating on the hood support rod at about where it might have been creased had it mistakingly been inserted into the safety latch (the safetey latch has a u shaped area not unlike the support rod rod holder on my previous chevie s-10 pickup).i was told that since it was not a warranty problem i should contact my insurance company and file a claim.however, since it seemed to me to be a safety matter, one where i could easily have been killed, i decided to call honda customer relations.the honda spokesperson said since she dealership had determined the latches were ok and because it was apparently due to misuse on my part there was nothing they could do and i should contact my insurance agent.apparently they have not had complaints re this problem, which doesn't suprise me if others with this problem were also told it was their fault and "take it to your insurance company".the reality is that it is a poor, confusing design.simply increasing the size of the support rod at the point where it wouldcompromise the safety latch would prevent inadvertant errors.the owner's manual briefly mentions the support rod, but no mention of this potential problem.i consider this a serious safety problem.

I purchased my 2003 cr-v in april of 2003. In june i was on the highway with my kids in the car going 70mph when my hood flew up and hit the windshield. I called honda several times, and they said i have to turn it in to my insurance company, it is not their problem. It was late at night, and had that happened another mile down the road, we would have all been killed. The road had cement barriers and went down to one lane.

December 22, 2003, the hood of my 2003 honda crv flew up and broke the windshield, while i was crossing a bridge in very windy conditions.the car had been serviced the previous month and there was also an oil change (november), when the hood was last opened.there was no prior indication the hood was not secure.

While driving 65 mph on the highwaythe hood flew up and hitthe windshield.i was in the right lane so i was able to safely pull over.i had to get out ofthe car, pry the hood down, and attempt to secure it to drive to a body shop.luckily , the windshield was not damaged, but the hood was destroyed, and the roof just above the windshield ,was severely dented.the original estimatewas around $1700.the latchwasdamaged, and apparently therewas no way to determine if the latch was damaged priororafter the incident.earlier that day the hood had been opened and closed, but i had double checked that it was properly closed.itwas nearly unbelievable that i avoided a crash.

Driving to work on interstate 89 i had my hood fly up on me and smash my windshield, and totally block my vision of the road.i was lucky enough to not have someone near me, slammed on the brakes and pulled over to the side of the road....i then got out and was able to secure the hood so i could temporarily drive it off the highway and to my office where i then proceeded to look into what may have caused this.on the day before i had added windshield fluid, shut the hood and check to make sure it was secure.it appeared to be so.i drove around town all day sunday and then monday morning approximately 20 miles before the hood blew up into my windshield.the auto repair shop indicated that he had seen this before on honda crv's and that the design for where the hood rod is placed is right next to the latch and sometimes gets stuck in the latch causing it to not fully hitch.i'm amazed i'm alive and feel like people should know about this design flaw.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle emitted a loud noise and he was unable to control the vehicle. The contact stopped on the shoulder and saw that the drive shaft had separated from the rear differential. The vehicle was then towed to a repair shop. The vehicle was inspected and it was determined that the failure was related to wear and tear. In order to repair vehicle, the drive shaft needed replacement. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were 250,000.

The throttle assembly had to be replaced in my 2003 honda crv at 42,240 miles although i had carefully had dealer servicing on a regular basis.

My mom's 2003 honda cr-v ex awd automatic transmission has this clicking sound whenever we drive it around. On occasion the clicking is loud, but it can get very annoying. The automatic, when starting and putting in reverse has a very un-honda like noise with a jolt.when we took it for the nhtsa recall for the automatic transmission they did the service.after a couple of days the clicking went back. Took it back to the dealership and the honda certified mechanic said that it is normal because the brakes are adjusting itself.i want to know do any other honda owners of cr-v's built from 2002-2003 model years have this same noise problem?

Transmission failure at 50,000 miles only. Never expected this from honda car. Had to get the a new transmission which amounted to around $3,200 and had to rent a car for a week.

Honda cr-v 4wd, auto, 2003 with 25000 m. Incidents - as the automatic transmission down shifted from up gear to 1st, there was a "jerk" and i almost hit vehicle up front my during the wet weather condition. After that i made testing on parking lot, that i can reproduce this jerk, and it reproducible. I drive car slow on first gear and slowly push a brake, not any jerk. But when i let car to shift to up a second and third gear and than gently to push brake, before car completely stop i feeling a jerk, that very dangerously on wet surface. Driver and rear center seat beltunbuckled after being buckled.rear center seat belthad a child seat installed when it unbuckled. Dealership will be notified.

The rear center passenger seat belt buckle blocks access to the rear passenger buckle. I asked the dealership and honda america to change this design and the dealer's answer was, "unable to relocate buckles for proper operation." basically the rear passenger has to ride without seat belt protection if there is a rear center passenger.

Seat belt around child using a child safety seat malfunctioned and could not be removed. Seat belt continued to tighten to the point of suffocation for child. It would not retract. All efforts to release seat belt caused it to further tighten. Due to fear that child would be asphyxiated, seat belt was cut. In effort to get it repaired, i have found that seat belts are not kept in stock and will have to be ordered.

The occupant,10 years old, in the rear seat took the seat belt off to reach for something.somehow the seat belt got twisted around the passenger's waist and continued to tighten after every movement.seat belt had to be cut off because the passenger became upset and had difficulty breathing. Dealer will replace the seat belt only atconsumer's expense.

I would just like to register a complaint, with what i and apparently honda of north america consider a safety defect with the 2003 honda crv. The center rear headrest restraint is of the same height as the left and right rear headrest on this vehicle. What this does is prevents the driver from being able to have a clear view in the rear view mirror. In order for the driver to have a clear view from the rear view mirror, the head restraint must be removed therefore defeating its safety purpose for the middle passenger in the rear seat. Honda obviously realized this , because the 2005 model has a lower height rear seat middle passenger head restraint, as it should. As a consumer i believe that honda, should offer owner's of this vehicle, the new updated lower height head restraint for the rear seat middle passenger at no charge to owners of this vehicle.

When iplaced the cr-v in reverse to back out of my drive way my foot slip from the brake and hit the accelerator the car catapulted hitting my honda accord on the rear panel of the driver side, my accord was parked perpendicularto the driving path i informed honda recommended designchanges.. I remember that i used to own a toyota camry where the brake and accelerator pedal had enough gap that i could place my foot between the two pedals. Will gladly furnished pictures of the damage and the brake pedal .

I have now taken my 2003 crv in for the third time because of vibration in the steering wheel. The first time they machined the rotors and the second time they replaced them. Now, after about 15,000 miles, they are telling me they need to be replaced again. Something has got to be wrong here.

From day 1 my brakes did not seem right.i had a very bad vibration in my brakes from probably 15,000 mi.at approximately 17,000mi the dealer machined or turned the rotors and replaced the brake pads.now again at 35,000mi the vibration in my brakes are back.dealer wanted to machine and turn the rotors once more, but we argued that this is not normal,a nd they agreed to replace them at 35,600mi. I was forced to dispose of the vehicle with only 500 miles on it, at a $2000 lose.

Steering wheel locked on 2003 honda crv and driver lost control of the vehicle causing a crash into brick wall.

The steering wheel failed to return to its position after a turn wasmade. The consumer had to apply force to get the steering wheel to drive straight.when going around curves and corners, the wheels occasionally hang in the direction of the turn and would not return.this occurred when the vehicle was cold. *scc

The contact owns a 2003 honda crv. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the steering wheel tilt lever would become unlocked, causing the contact to lose complete control of the vehicle. Both the dealer and manufacturer advised the contact that there were no related recalls and offered no further assistance. No repairs were performed. The current mileage was 151,000 and the failure mileage was 139,100.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. The contact stated that the coolant leaked which caused the air conditioning compressor to fail. The steering column overheated. The passenger air bag light illuminated with or without a passenger in the seat. The cruise control activated suddenly at times. The oxygen sensor light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop but the exact causes of these failures could not be determined. The contact called the manufacturer who advised her to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000 and the current mileage was approximately 77,000.

In my 2003 honda crv ex i had been noticing that my steering wheel tilt lock lever had been getting looser after each time i adjusted the steering wheel position. Sometimes i would just be driving down the street and the steering wheel would suddenly go up and down and i would have to react very quickly by pushing the steering wheel tilt lever back up into the locking position. Eventually this problem would occur up to 5 times a day. Recently i was driving on the interstate with my entire family in my crv. I was going approximately 64 miles an hour when suddenly the steering wheel lurched almost out of my hands after going over a small bump. I was surrounded by vehicles on all sides and almost lost control of my vehicle. If i did not act very quickly by pulling the tilt lever back into the locking position there would have been a terrible multicar accident on the interstate and me and my family could have been injured or killed. I called my local honda dealership and explained what happened and if there was a recall on the faulty tilt lever. They said they were not aware of a recall for this item. This is a very serious and potentially life threatening defect that should be addressed by honda immediately.

Steering wheel and air bag.position either puts driver at risk of injury from air bag, or driver cannot see the dash gauges.both are serious design flaws (and potentially safety issues) on this vehicle, 2003 honda crv, ex model.*la

Steering wheel locking mechanism is defective and drops unexpectedtly in my 03" honda crv.reported this problem to honda corp and i am awaiting to see if it will be covered by them.when i called the dealer back i was told this was not the first time he had seen this problem.i feel this safety concern is not being addressed by honda corp promptly and i am not allowing my wife and small child to drive the vehicle.the repair will cost a thousand dollars to fix, my expense i was told. When this problem with the tilt wheel locking system fails - this is a accident waiting to happen - especially at high speeds in a suv.

The steering wheel has locked and vehicle could not be controlled while the vehicle was moving. This has occurred on two separate occasions. The vehicle had to be turned off then on again in order for the steering wheel to be unlocked. *ph *nlm

The steering wheel locked/hung while turning off of an exit ramp. I was unable to straighten out the steering wheel, which resulted in hitting the curb, damaging the wheel and wall of the tire.honda dealership could find no apparent cause.

Steering hangs in a turn causing dangerous loses of control, steering wheel must be forced back to staighten out.dealer tried to fix but could not.honda tech-line engineers said problem is inherent in new design, and there is no fix.

Heater core leaking into passenger side and dripping on passenger's foot.passenger was not injured but potential for burn.

While i was on my way home from work, i decided to take the freeway (instead of the normal roads) back home. I was hitting speeds that were 60mph-65mph. It was until i was 15 minutes into my driving that i heard something snap in the front of my car and heard a dense whoosh. The hood of my car slams up against my windshield and i am completely blinded; i can not see in front of me. Thankfully, i use my rear views while i am in the middle of the freeway and manage to drive off to the shoulder. If i had been surrounded by cars or if this had happened during a heavier traffic period i might not have made it.

The door locks will not allow key to be inserted.been this way for a number of years and it started with locks difficult to turn.now no locks work after frank ancona honda of olathe kansas "repaired" them a few years back and even made new keys.they just told me to force the keys in and twist hard then tried to charge me for something that wasn't fixed.i did not pay for the unsatisfactory work.i've replaced door locks on several other make vehicles and have cars that are 35 years older and those door locks work perfectly.online i've noticed numerous similar complaints of very disgusted people.this problem prevents us from being able to locks the doors when leaving the car anywhere.as a road police officer of 30-31 years now i know the importance of security of belongings or even when sitting stationary in a bad neighborhood.honda doesn't know how to repair the crv's door locks.they put defective equipment into the crv.i just gave up and don't keep anything in the crv with any hint of personal information on it or property i'm not prepared to lose.i don't want to lose the car due to theft. Or have someone pull the hood release and steal battery, engine parts,...honda is worthless.

My son was driving my 2003 honda crv on highway 101 southnear exit 484a, in rohnert park, cajust south of the todd rd. Overpass/on ramp.it was a windy day.the hood of the crv came up and hit/broke the windshield.my son was able to look sideways to guide himself off the freeway.he was able to guide himself into a safety zone next to the freeway, but couldn't get out of his car.he reached around from the driver's seat, and was able to pull down the hood somewhat (he's 6'4").he was able to drive down farther to a more safe area on the wilfred avenue off/ramp.he was able to exit the vehicle, and further close the hood.the windshield is shattered, and there is damage to the hood.the force caused two areas of the hood to bend near the windshield.the hood won't open now.it is in a opened position. There are small dents in the hood from the impact.from this location, he was able to drive approximately 2 miles home, using back roads and sticking his head out of the window to see where he was going.this happened on a friday afternoon in a rush time on the freeway.luckily, my middle aged son was strong enough and tall enough to close the hood while in the safety lane.i wouldn't have been able to do so, due to being elderly.we have read on the internet of multiple incidents with the honda crv 2002-2006 hood opening up and hitting the windshield, yet no recall has been initiated. There is believed to be a defect in the hood latch.we also have another 2003 crv, and i am now scared to drive that one too, knowing this could happen with that crv too.my son called our insurance and arranged for the windshield repair right after the accident.however, we have realized there is more damage. We will be calling our insurance and local honda dealer (manly honda of santa rosa) to see how to proceed from here.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. The contact stated that the front passenger side window failed to close when the power window switch was activated. The vehicle was taken to martin honda (205 e cleveland ave, newark, de 19711, 302-738-5200) where it was determined that there was no recall for the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 198,000.

The contact owns a 2003 honda crv. The contact was driving 65 mph when the hood detached flew open and cracked the windshield. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 124,000.

Whilst driving on the highway, out of nowhere the hood flipped up over the windshield and blocked all view. I almost got into a huge accident and was lucky enough to be in the left lane. The hood is unfixable, the roof is damaged where the hood impacted and the electric on the inside section of the roof no longer work. The hood had not been opened for a while and was closed correctly. I have searched online and this has happened to many other drivers of the same model. I almost lost my life and it ended up costing me $2000 in repairs. Why has there not been a recall when honda have fixed the problem in newer models? thank you

Dt*:the contact stated the plate covering the catalytic converter came completely off the vehicle.this occurred without warning. The plate was observed hanging from under the vehicle. The dealership found corrosion on the bolts of the under carriage. There appeared to be no water damage. Updated 1/25/2006 - the consumer contacted the dealer and manufacturer.they claimed that the undercarriage was a non-warranted area and that the consumer would be charged for repairs.

The contact owns a 2003 honda crv. The contact stated that the rear end of the vehicle started shaking abnormally. The contact was unable to maintain control of the vehicle as it swayed abnormally and crashed into a median wall. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the tow assistant advised that the rear axle was not lubricated and seized, causing the failure. Additionally, the rear tires exploded during the failure. The contact sustained neck injuries from the crash. A police report was not filed of the incident. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 127,000.

I am a proud owner of a 2003 honda cr-v.i've always heard a loud noise from the rear of the vehicle when my rear windows were rolled down and didn't think much about it, until i had some body work done and the mechanic told me that my differential is bad and i needed to replace it.i decided to do some research and almost every honda cr-v owner i spoke to say they've encountered the noise too.i believe this was a flaw honda know all along and refuse to disclose, even when i bought my vehicle, i was not made aware of this problem.

Car pulls to right, was somewhat corrected 18 months later, but shop overcorrected the fix and now it drifts to the left.pulls to the right upon acceleration.

While in motion consumer notice a clunking sound coming from the vehicle. It was taken to two separate dealers. The first dealer could not locate the problem. The second dealer informed the consumer that the problem was the sway bar link.

Front end pulls hard to right on uneven pavement, or on highway if small cut lines are on roadway. Vehicle has always pulled to right since new and i have had to have wheel alignments more than twice a year. Vehicle has never been in an accident. Vehicle had warranty work for clunking noise in front end when new. Have went through several sets of tires prematurely because the tires on the front always wear out on the outer and inner edge. Tires are always properly inflated to mfg specs.after getting new tires and alignment the vehicle operates fine for about a month or two then it gradually gets worse. After a couple months when releasing the gas peddle the car slows down quickly and the pulling to the right gets worse.

While backing out of the drive way (5-10 mph), the consumer heard a loud cracking noise and noticed the front right wheel was leaning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer informed the consumer that the lower right ball joint needed to be replaced.

Dt*:the contact stated while having the vehicle inspected, the independent repair shop determined there was noise coming from the passenger side strut.the vehicle has not been inspected by the dealership. Updated06/01/2006.

Bridgestone lt size p205/70r15dot:t0118684pz while driving at 15 mph, the right front tire blew up. The consumer had to pull over.the dealer told the consumer they had nothing to do withthe tire.please provide further information.

Driving at 5 mph after leaving home i heard a grinding noise. It sounded like it came from the cabin fan (the air conditioner was on). I turned off fan and noise stopped. At traffic light tried fan without the air conditioner and engine stalled.engine did not restart until i turned off fan. Problem was identified as failure of air conditioner compressor and a frozen air conditioner clutch. Other than the noise there was no warning of failure.car was serviced 2 months and 800 miles before incident.idling at a stop light at the time of failure resulted in stalled engine. If car was moving there would have been a loss of control as power steering and brakes would have been affected.if failure happened at higher speed i think i would have experienced catastrophic failure of the engine or compressor clutch (and shrapnel in the engine compartment or on the road and likely loss of control).here was no early indication or warning of component failure. Although damage was isolated to compressor, if i had reacted slower or had the speed been higher there would have been high likelihood of additional damage or injury.

Vehicle was parked in driveway at night. During the night, vehicle rolled out driveway, across street and into neighbor's yard. Vehicle was parked, shutoff and key removed even though not put into park. I tried it again and key can be removed after turning off engine with automatic transmission shifter still in "d".

The front end underneath of the honda is completely rusted and corroded. The car is unsafe to drive.

I was driving my 2003 honda cr-v on the highway, when suddenly smoke began coming from the center vents; within seconds the car was fully engulfed in flames. My car was in fantastic condition, and maintained to honda's specifications. I found on-line that this is a reoccurring issue among 03 cr-vs.

On wed. Sept. 7, 2011, i was driving to work when the gas pedal on my 2003 honda crv got stuck. I tried to brake at the stoplight, but the car would not brake. I had to go into survival mode, tried shifting the gears, and somehow got the vehicle turned off. It scared me half to death. I was also stuck in the middle of traffic and could not pull over to the side of the road, so i had the fear that someone might hit my vehicle from behind.i immediately called aaa and had them send a police officer for safety reasons. My car was towed to my mechanic who discovered that the throttle body assembly wasbroken, and needed to be replaced. Besides being a safety issue, this repair cost me aprox. $1,196.53. I have to say that even though it''s been replaced, i am very leery of driving the vehicle.the mechanic and the honda dealership, where i purchased my car originally, say that this type of malfunction should not occur.about two years or so ago, the differential went out on this car as well. It had to be repaired and honda paid for half of that repair, after i contacted the customer service dept. This was also a part that shouldn''t have had to be repaired.i contacted honda corporation and i was told that, "honda would not assist me with this problem."

I am unable to insert key into driver side door and as a result can not open the door to get in. I have to go through the passenger side, open the door to driver's side. Driver side front door lock does not turn and we are stranded as the door doesn't open. I am hoping to call honda and suggest they have a recall as this look like wide-spread issue based on the feedback on the web.

On 2/23/2018, my 2003 honda crv caugh on fire.it was parked in a spot at my apartment complex. I 1st noticed smoke and some fire in left front wheel well. Then bursted into flames. I didn't do any unusal driving. Went to work that day. 3 miles round trip. Did some local driving. About 9pm went and got some gas. Came home, parked car.i was inside for sevral minutes.then as i said earlier, i came out and saw the smoke and the fire starting. Since this happened 3 plus weeks ago. I have of course notified my insurance, to which it was a total loss. Then some peolpe said i should look into any recalls. And i did notice that there was recalls on this make, model and year.is there anything that can be done on your end to do additional research?

The air conditioner (ac) stopped working. I then took the car to my mechanic who told me that the compressor locked up and destroyed many components in the system. He quoted me about $2,000 to fix the issue.i then took the car to honda dealer and they told the repair cost would be $3500. I live in the dallas, texas area and we have been experiencing triple digit temperature. This is a car my wife uses. We have two little kids. Not having a working ac is a life threatening situation.i contacted honda usa for help and they told me since the car was not under warranty there wasn't anything they can do for me. I explained to them that there was a serious design flaw with the system. They would not agree even though there are countless postings on the web about this particular issue.honda should be forced to issue a recall for this defective system. In hot climates, not having an ac is a serious safety issue. Now, i am stuck! where am i going to get $3500 to fix this issue. This problem has made the car completely useless. I am between a rock and a hard place. Honda should not get away with this because this company is endangering the lives of so many people.

Door locks are all malfunctioning.only 2 work some of the time and the other 3 none of the time.key works sometimes in 2 of the locks and not at all in the back door.

Air conditioner went out at 36,000 miles no warning. Cost $1500. My extended warranty covered part but not all. Shredded metal all through out the air conditioner. Had to wait 7 hours for a repair as dealer 50 miles away honda crv 2003.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. The contact stated that while attempting to park, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The vehicle crashed into four parked vehicles and then into a bus shelter. A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The current and failure mileage was 52,000.

Driving with speed control on i tapped the brakes to release it.the car sped up as if the accelerator had been pressed to the floor and held there.i continued to tap the brakes, but the speed control would not release.i applied the brakes and it would not release.now i am flying down the apron of the road just missing stopped cars still going 65 being jostled violently.the speed control disengagesafter i pass about 20 cars.the car finally is able to stop.my hand was at no point close to the steering wheel controls of the speed control.my foot never hit or held the accelerator.a right rear tire was impaled by debris.

My wife was accelerating her 2003 honda cr-v onto the massachusetts turnpike from the on-ramp, but the car continued to accelerate well above normal highway speed. The brake only slowed it partially, so she tried tapping the accelerator which released. Alarmed by this she got it serviced where mechanic blamed the problem on buildup of deposits on the throttle plate, which they cleaned, and did other preventive maintenance. Several weeks later i was leaving the supermarket on an very cold day of about 10f. I started the car in park, at which point the throttle went to maximum by itself, at very high revs. Fortunately it was still in park. I tried all kinds of tapping on and around the accelerator. I inspected the accelerator area for a stuck floor mat or a foreign object, but found nothing. I turned the car off, but when i turned it on, it continued to rev as if floored. The second time i turned it off and on, it returned to normal operation. It drove normally for the next few weeks. Finally, my wife was driving on a busy divided highway with many businesses when the accelerator stuck open again. The car sped up to dangerous speed, and stomping on the brake only partly slowed it. She shifted into low gear which actually made it speed up. She was approaching a traffic light with stopped cars. Not wanting to hit a column of stopped cars, she steered into a thick snowbank by the side of the road, hoping to stop it non-destructively. But the honda did not stop until it hit a telephone pole very hard, with airbag deployment and total vehicle loss. She escaped with only minor bruises.

2003 honda cr-v sudden acceleration due to gas pedal getting stuck. While making left turn from completely stopped position, cars picked up sudden acceleration and would barely stop after using both normal and emergency brakes. After incident, car gear was put into parking and car was turned off. While turning on car in parking gear, rpm line jumped to 4500 rpm and car continued to make acceleration noise. This continued for sometime.problem disappeared on in its own after 30 minutes and repeated attempts to start car. Car drove normally after problem disappeared.exact rootcause of problem is unknown and there is uncertainty that it may come back and could result in injuries if car does not stop.

2003 honda crv. Consumer writes in regards to throttle body issues *tgwthe consumer stated the check engine light illuminated. The dealer replaced the throttle body.

We are writing to report nhtsa in addressing a critical safety issue in honda automobiles and serious negligence on the part of the american honda automobile company. We own a 2003 honda cr-v (vin: [xxx] ). This vehicle has serious manufacturing defects that have resulted in several instances of engine racing, where the vehicle continuously accelerates uncontrollably. Only my husband's considerable automotive engineering experience was able to prevent potentially fatal accidents that could have killed our entire family.we have contacted the american honda automobile customer service many times to report critically dangerous vehicle malfunctions after these instances occurred, but to no avail. We requested that the honda company allow us to return this car to them so that they can research the problem. We are afraid to drive this car right now, and we do not want to resell this car to others, as it could cause fatal accidents for someone else.my husband experienced engine racing for the first time on april 28, 2009. The engine suddenly started revving to over 7000 rpm, quickly bringing the vehicle to 75mph and overcoming its own brakes. Thankfully, he was able to disengage the gear, shut down the car, and maneuver it by unpowered steering, bringing it to a stop before a serious accident occurred. Without the knowledge to safely control the car or the good fortune of an open road and light traffic, he might not have survived.we called aaa to tow the car to an aaa authorized repair shop nearby. The repair shop checked the engine and found that the device that controls engine idling had malfunctioned. Both my husband and i missed work that morning. Afterwards i called and emailed the honda dealer and american honda automobile customer service to report a critically dangerous vehicle malfunction (case #[xxx]). We requested that they reimburse our costs of repairing this engine ctrl malfunction and investigate. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I had stopped for a blocked roadway on the interstate.once i could go, i accelerated.my vehicle continued to accelerate out of control, reaching over 90 mph.i pumped the brake, gas, and was unable to bring the vehicle to a lower speed for over a mile on the interstate.i checked the floor mat and ensured that nothing was in the way.luckily, traffic had been stopped previous to the out of control acceleration. I took it to honda and reported the problem.they said the throttle cable was junky and i paid to fix it.i reported the incident then.today my vehicle accelerated out of control while on the interstate.i was unable to bring the vehicle back down to speed.i applied the brake, emergency brake, put it in neutral, and then took the key out.

The vehicle surged when accelerating.the vehicle would surge when accelerating from stop and was more noticeable with the a/c on.the door seal on the left front door st the bottom would sometimes hang down. *sc

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v.while driving 55 mph the vehicle automatically accelerated to approximately 80 mph.the contact was able to decrease in speed by depressing the brake pedal.the dealer stated that therewas a defect with the throttle cap and made the repair.no other failures have occurred since the repair was performed.the current and failure mileages were 75,000.the consumer stated when bringing the vehicle in for scheduled maintenance the recall was performed for issues with the cruise control. The consumer stated while reporting to the dealer in 2005 that the vehicle would suddenly accelerate but upon braking the issue would resolve and could not be duplicated by the dealer. On the 2nd incident is where the vehicle accelerated to 80 mph by flooring the brake the consumer was able to get the vehicle to decelerate but the vehicle would not stop eventually stopping the vehicle by putting it into park. The dealer stated the throttle plate was sticking. Updated 08/03/07

The malfunction indicator light on my 2003 honda crv came on twice.first incident happened december 2005, and second incident happened on march 21, 2006.on the first incident, the malfunction light went away after checking the fuel cap wasn't closed properly.second incident, i took the crv to a honda trained technician and had it diagnosed.the diagnostic was performed on 3/22/2006.the sensor inside the throttle body assemble is malfunctioning.contacted the dealer (honda stevens creek, san jose) and explained the situation.they noted that warrantly for such parts are only covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles whichever comes first.my crv was bought brand new and currently have 38,000 miles, which means honda will not cover for the replacement.replacement of the complete throttle body assembly cost $800+ and does not include labor and diagnostic cost.

I was at a public aquatic center and while pulling into a parking space, the car accelerated up to about 15 miles per hour or more.i ended up hitting the building head on causing damage to the front end end of my car and to myself as well.

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated rapidly without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerated to 85 mph and would not stop. The contact applied the brake pedal and it became stuck to the floorboard. The contact shifted into neutral in an attempt to correct the failure and the vehicle decelerated to 45 mph and would not stop. The contact stated that the failure recurred a second time two years later. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle accelerated to 90 mph without warning. On both occasions, the emergency brake was inoperative and failed to stop the vehicle. The contact eventually regained control of the brake and accelerator pedal functionality. Tom kadlec honda (3333 wilder rd nw, rochester, minnesota 55901, (507) 281-2500) was contacted, but the failures could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures by a written letter or correspondence. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The vin was not available.

2003 honda crv unexpectedly accelerated while pulling into a parking stall on 8/2/17 at 6:45am.the engine suddenly revved up full throttle and the car surged forward.i slammed on the brakes but could feel the car surging forward for a split second.my car hit the unoccupied car parked in the stall in front of me.will take car to dealership today to determine and fix cause.filed an insurance claim with travelers insurance company.

Sudden acceleration also occurred with my2003 honda crv on at least two occasions in 2007. Both times i took the car to the dealer ship and was told they were unable to find any problem. The second incident almost caused me to hit some one even though i applied the brakes with both feet anddamaged the brakes in the process. I was terrified to drive the car, not knowing when the sudden acceleration and lunging would happen. I returned to the dealership and demanded to find the cause or i would refuse to drive a car that is possessed. I was never given a satisfactory explanation of the cause and was just told it was something with the computer. I had no problem since, but it is always in the back of my mind, especially sine the toyota issues with sudden acceleration. I do not believe i am the only person who had this problem .

The contact owns a 2003 honda cr-v. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph and attempting to accelerate to 55 mph, the vehicle abnormally accelerated to 80 mph. The vehicle did not respond as the contact applied the brakes. The contact was able to move onto the shoulder and turned the engine off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure and current mileage was 77,000.

After the shift cable nhtsa recall campaign 03v 274000 was performed the vehicle jerked forward when slowing down or stopping.also, when starting the vehicle it idled high.

Sudden acceleration due to gas pedal getting "stuck". Once a red light turned green vehicle was put into motion from completely stopped position. After a few yards driver had to brake not to hit the truck in front of it, which was going slower than vehicle in question. Instead of reducing speed, driver faced a sudden acceleration that made the vehicle crash into the truck. Even with the impact, the acceleration continued and vehicle crashed again into the same truck. Driver realized the vehicle was not reducing its speed by applying the brake pedal and therefore vehicle was put into parking and turned off. In an attempt to turn the vehicle on again the vehicle made a very loud accelerated noise but driver could not take vehicle from parking position and noticed brake and gas pedals were stiff. Vehicle had to be towed. Honda was contacted and requested to go see the vehicle before it is taken apart (in order to find evidence), but its representative said the only thing they can do is take the vehicle for a test drive to try to reproduce the problem once the vehicle is repaired and safe to be driven again. Basically, honda doesn't show interest in investigating further and will wash its hands if problem cannot be reproduced, which will likely be the case, or else the vehicle won't even be able to leave the repair center where it currently is and taken for such "test drive". Sadly, honda just lost a loyal customer.

While using 'cruise control' in freeway traffic, the cars ahead began to slow, suddenly while i had cruise control engaged, in fifth gear.a black prius was the car immediately ahead of mine. The slowing of the traffic was significant enough so that i used light braking to disengage the cruise control and slow the vehicle. Just a 'tap' on the brake is all that has ever been necessary to disengage the cruise control in this type of situation."light' braking and then 'very heavy' braking did nothing whatsoever to disengage the cruise control or to slow the vehicle whatsoever.i almost collided with the rear end of the prius.the only way i could resume control and slow my vehicle was to reach over and slap-off the master, cruise control switch at the far left of the instrument panel.this was very scary as i've heard of it happening but has never happened in this vehicle and i've owned it since new.when i first attempted to tap the brake to disengage the cruise control, and slow; my vehicle also seemed to accelerate at the same time...i think that this, probably, was not actually the case as the closure rate to the other vehicle and my inability to slow the vehicle, probably just made it seem like the car was accelerating...i honestly do not know.i cannot reproduce the anomaly.....

I had just taken the car into the dealership the week before, and they had replaced the starter as well as doing routine maintenance. One week later, i had just left the house and was driving toward a major intersection at 55 mph when the vehicle started to accelerate on its own. I pushed down on the brake and was able to slow the vehicle down somewhat but the engine was still racing. I tried to pull the accelerator up but with the top of my foot, but this did nothing. Putting all of my weight on the brake i slowed it enough to turn into a parking lot at about 10 mph, at which point i jammed it into park. The engine continued to race until i turned it off. When the towtruck arrived, the driver started the car which again caused the engine to rev extremely high, and he immediately turned it off. After towing to the dealership, the mechanics there were unable to reproduce the problem. They kept the car for several weeks, during which time they drove it for about 80 miles. Then they called us and said that they could not find anything wrong or reproduce the problem, and they have asked us to come pick up the vehicle. I am worried the problem could recur, and do not wish to drive the vehicle any longer.

I have two safety recall notices that the dealer is not able to fix because of lack of parts. The recall notices are six months old.

Traveling on interstate with vehicle set on cruise-controlat 65 mph; cruise-control malfunctioned losing all vehicle speed in heavy traffic. Dealership said that the cruise-control unit physically separated from it's mounting, that the vehicle had low mileage and incident should never have happened. Indicated that there were other incidents of this nature with other vehicle's, however, no recalls. Vehicle out of warranty, dealership stated they would check and possibly buy the part if i paid for the labor. Two years later, still no answer from the dealership.

Problems with front brakes on 2003 honda crv.*mrthere was a clunking noise coming from the brakes. When the dealer was notified the stated it was the characteristic of the suv and there was nothing they could do. The dealer did replace the lower brake pad retainer clips as per service bulletin. The consumer was offered to drive another 2003 crv to prove the noisy brakes were a characteristic of the vehicle. Consumer wasn't happy with this andwould like some sort of discount or the dealer to pay offthe vehicle.the seat belt wouldn't latch. Consumer had the throttle cable replaced to eliminate the noise but to no avail. Consumer was informed the noise will never go completely away. *ph *nlm

On two occasions my 2003 honda crv began to accelerate on its own following an initial acceleration at highway speeds.the cruise control button was on, but had not been activated.it continued to accelerate and would not respond to braking, turning the cruise control button off, etc.for eight full seconds the car was not under my speed control on the highway.the certified honda dealer said there was a news bulletin about it on honda's web site (but would not share it with me) and told me to go to the honda dealer where i purchased the car.i took it in and they cleaned the throttle, failed to share any bulletins with me, stating these info was for the dealers only.i was told that the acceleration was due to cruise control problems in these 2003 crv's and it is a misread with the computer and the pneumatic system.there was no indication that the problem was fixed, but to take it to them again if i felt it would be a problem.i contacted honda directly to file a complaint.they would not offer any information and stated that since it technically was not a recall, they did not have to share any information with me nor did they have to pay for it.i would like for the general public to know about it in order to save lives.i was blessed to have narrowly diverted disaster.i have lost trust in the recall process.this needs to reach the consumer in some form.

I was driving my 2003 honda crv on the second day of our trip from ohio to florida.there were two adults, and two small children in the car. We were traveling at highway speed with the cruise control on. I had my feet tucked near my seat away from the pedals.the car accelerated on its own, nearing the car in front of us.i put my right foot down on the brake, and it went completely to the floor with no braking or slowing down.i then put my left foot on the clutch to make sure my feet were in the correct place, and the clutchwent to the floor with my left foot. I tried my right foot again on the brake with no resistance, and no slowing down.i then tried to disengage the cruise control with the hand controls on the steering wheel, with no result.all during this time, the car continued to consistently accelerate to the car in front of us.knowing only that the steering worked at that point i jerked the wheel to the right in order to avoid ramming the car in front of us.thankfully, there was not a car to our right, there was to the left. The car swerved violently, and shifted upwards as to roll.i pulled the wheel to the left and swerved again.we swerved several times, and at that point i was able to get the car back in control again.we took the car to a honda dealership in florida, and they tried to recreate the situation.good thing they couldn't. They, too, may have nearly died. They suggested we take it to the honda dealership once we were home in ohio, which we did. They said it checked out fine.this is a classic case of sudden acceleration.at least 4 very valuable lives were nearly taken, and probably more, given the inevitable entanglement we would have caused with other cars near/behind us on the highway.

The contact owns a 2003 honda crv. The contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle abnormally accelerated to 70 mph.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic that located the failure at the cruise control cable. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 88,322 and the current mileage was 89,069.updated 10/04/11*ljprior to the sudden acceleration problem, the cruise control stopped working. The throttle body part of the cruise control system was broken which caused a cable to be stuck; this caused the sudden acceleration which is clearly a serious safety issue. The cruise control was repaired by the dealer. Updated 10/24/11

When the "auto" indicator light goes out on the dashboard power windows and sun roof stop operating. Driver has to maneuver the ignition switch or restart the vehicle to get the windows and sun roof to operate. Dealer replaced the ignition switch, but the problem still exists.

My wife owns a 2003 honda crv purchased from jeff weler honda of cincinnati.the passenger side mirror is broken.honda informed me that the part is on backorder and as a result, they cannot supply the mirror to me.however, it appears that honda is currently making 2004 crv's and the part number for the passenger side mirror is the same for both the 2003 and the 2004 models.additionally, many honda dealers have new 2003 and 2004 crv's on their lots, but they are unwilling to "borrow" a mirror from a new vehicle and supply it to consumers who have broken mirrors.additionally, i had no choice but to drive the car from cincinnati to columbus and back yesterday in order to pick up a friend who had been injured in an accident.driving the car on the highway without a passenger side mirror is dangerous given the design of the inside mirror and the design of the rear body pillars.from my point of view, it appears that honda has the parts to make my wife's car safe and they are choosing to put priority on the building of new cars instead of making existing cars safe.fyi -- the honda part number is 76203-sca-a01.

When the "auto" indicator light goes out on the dashboard power windows and sun roof stop operating. Driver has to maneuver the ignition switch or restart the vehicle to get the windows and sun roof to operate. Dealer replaced the ignition switch, but the problem still exists.

Windshield developed a crack that started from the bottom right side. Consumer stated "no objects made contact with the windshield. The cause of the crack was undetermined by dealership.

Windshield was hit by a soccer ball, and cracked immediately.

Car was purchased on 11-29-02.windshield replaced on 6-3-03.three months later on 9-23-03, windshiled needed to be repaired.around 4-03, another crack appeared.i contacted the honda corporate office where they sent me to the dealership to have the windshiled checked.their claim was that it was a stone that cracked it.obviously something hit the windshield.however i do not believe that a windshield should receive damage that easily.this is the first car i have ever had where the windshield had to be replaced.at the moment, there are two sealed cracks and eventually the windshield will need to be replaced again.each time this occurs, it cost me $100.00 out of pocket.i am afraid that if i keep claiming on my insurance, my rates will go up.i have family and friends that travel the same roads as i do and their cars windshields don't get damaged.

The windshield was replaced twice, and cracked again. Consumer felt the glass was inferior, and that the manufacturer should be notified.

The contact owns a 2003 honda crv.the contact noticed that the front passenger side tire was deflated due to a defect in the wheel.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to have the tire replaced.the vehicle was taken back to an independent mechanic on a separate occasion for identical failures to the rear passenger side tire.the technician stated that the failure was contributed to cracks in the welded area of the wheels.the rear passenger side tire was replaced.the failure mileage wasunavailable and the current mileage was 79,000.
