The contact owned a 2018 honda clarity plug-in hybrid. While driving 30 mph and making a right turn into a parking lot, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. The steering wheel seized and the contact crashed into a store. The front driver and passenger air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained shoulder and collarbone injuries that required medical attention. The front passenger did not sustain injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,100. The vin was not available.

After certain drive mile car dash board has loud clicking sound, which doesn't go away for a while even car is turned off.while driving or stoped. Dealership or american honda has no satisfactory answer for the concern. Worry me if vehicle gonna stop on freeway.

Twice i experienced extreme high revs (like the car was in neutral and you have the pedal to the metal)with absolute loss of power and speed down to 30 mph first time on freeway & 10 mph second time on highway. Happened twice when battery was low (each time battery display actually went down to 1 bar which i've been told by dealer that it is impossible to go below 2 bars when hv kicks in) and on slight incline. Super scary dangerous, family screaming of fear inside vehicle)! also have range display error, engine turning on when battery is full almost every day and no charging when hv charge engaged. Original dealer test drove car 300 miles, did update and told me nothing wrong with car. I was afraid to drive the car, it sat at dealer for a month. After fighting with honda and going nowhere with them or dealership i took it back and all issues where still there. Took car 3 times to dealer #2 who said they cannot help, to deal with honda. I even emailed videos and photos but they did not seem to care or make effort to research it. Took test drive with tech, he had excuses for everything. Had opened ticket with honda, originally a special tech guy was supposed to come check the car, 2 months later still nothing, after dozens of calls to honda they told me that nothing is wrong with the car and they cancelled the specialist as they cannot justify the cost of it. I even had to pay for the loaner and again honda said they cannot justify covering it. They say to contact dealer, did not do anything and ended up telling me to get a lawyer. I am now stuck with a car that has major issues most of the time, i have to stop on the side of the road to shut car off 2 to 3 times in the morning when the battery is full and go through lots of gas because th e battery does not recharge and the engine is revving extremely high. I am also worried about the long term damage to the engine.

The contact owns a 2018 honda clarity plug-in hybrid. While driving 5 mph, the battery was depleted and the engine mode engaged; however, the vehicle lost power and failed to accelerate. The vehicle was recharged and worked as designed. The engine system, adaptive cruise control, road departure, and power steering warning indicators were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 3,700. The vin was invalid.

Although car less than one week old and under 470 miles, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel while vehicle was stationary after starting the car: engine system problem, brake system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, road departure mitigation system problem. Turning car off and restarting engine did not clear the problem, and lights remained on while driving. Vehicle was taken to dealership where it was purchased (honda of pasadena).

On the dash is the entertainment system tablet-like touchscreen. All professional honda reviewers know this issue and even honda themselves have fixed the new entertainment tablet shortfalls but this car is still being sold today with this harmful system.the infotainment system controls both the rear-veiw camera and the blind-spot monitor on the side veiw.because the system is buggy, and laggy, sometimes the camera will freeze an image on the screen. Sometimes the cameras will not show on the dash at all (again, because the android based system is very slow)last night my wife almost killed herself when the gps said "exit right" and her image on the screen was frozen without any cars but an 18 wheeler was honking and swerving away from us making a dramatic hop into the right lane.i feel a civil duty to report this one-of-many instances that the infotainment system almost killed me my family and many others (pedestrians and other drivers)

Car revs up when driving down the highway but drops speed to 10mph. It has done this 2 times once in town and once on us 23 while driving 70mph. Their are several complaints about the car doing the same thing to other clarity owners and this is a highly dangerous situation that honda should take care of! reineke honda in findlay ohio had my car for about 3 weeks and while test driving it the car did the same thing for the service manager mike stevens. They took a control box off a brand new clarity per honda's suggestion and i am driving the car and had no new problems so far. They were not sure this would fix the issue but so far it hasn't happened again.this is a dangerous failure in the car and i am lucky i wasn't driving in columbus, ohio the 2nd time the car did it or i would have been rear ended! honda needs to make sure this problem is fixed!!!

3 days after purchase i was driving on an interstate when the car suddenly lost all power. I managed to pull to a slow lane but the lack of power continued for another 5 minutes. It had been running on battery just prior and i had 2 bars of power left. The outside temperature was about 15 degrees. The internal cobustion engine began to race but only began to give adequate power to the wheels after 5 minutes. A terrifying experience. Honda checked out the car and said nothing was wrong. I am hearing of other cases being reported like mine.

The clarity phev is incompatible with public charging stations (e.g. Chargepoint) that feature dual charging ports and an energy management controller (emc). The vehicle's onboard charger will shut off when it senses the charging station's emc is activated when both ports are engaged for simultaneous charging.multiple failed attempts to restart charging will result in a "total system failure" warning from the instrument panel causing the vehicle to not start and drive.owners could be stuck in a parking stall for up to 4 hours to allow the system to self-heal/recover from the total system failure before being able to start and drive the car.issue has been diagnosed by honda dealership, but no information from honda or the dealership on a future software update to resolve the problem. I think honda should perform its due diligence to issue a recall for the clarity phev and potentially for its all-electric version to resolve this major flaw.

Plug-in charging system problem. Range limited. This problem is frequent (4 out of 5 times) when charging the vehicle at level 2 charging stations. Out of 10 cars charging, mine is the only one having this issue, including another 2018 honda clarity.

The contact owns a 2018 honda clarity plug-in hybrid. While driving 20 mph, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to right honda (7875 e frank lloyd wright blvd, scottsdale, az 85260, (480) 778-2440) where it was diagnosed with a computer error. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 1,300.

Mostly all the time, the engine kicks in (charge mode) even the battery is at full charge. Mostly all the time, highway driving or just picking up.. The engine is at eco mode, the gas engine is working at high rpm. Sounds just like a regular engine car at 8rpm sound. Speed at 65mph.

On approx 6 occasions, when ev power is used up, the car switches to ice mode with issues.when traveling up hill, it feels like the transmission is not engaging.the vehicle losses power, and does not accelerate.the ice revs extremely high without speed gain. Have also experienced a downhill situation with nearly full ev in ev mode. Vehicle feels like it disengages drivetrain. When pressing the accelerator, there was no response. One feels helpless when this occurs.most of the time, the car had switches from ev to hv automatically, without issue.but, the above phenomena has happened 6 times in the last year this is unsafe.the vehicle was sold as an ev, with a gas engine to take over when ev runs out.at no time was there any explanation regarding potential situations that would cause the vehicle to become unsafe and lose power. One should not have to ensure reserve ev power for potential power loss situations.when these situations have occurred, upon shutting off the car and exiting, there is a strong smell of burning rubber and other material similar to transmission and brakes, or hot metal. Clearly something is overheating, and if the vehicle was not shutdown and allowed to cool, a reasonable person might conclude that significant damage to the engine, electric motors, ev battery, or transmission would take place.i am no longer driving the vehicle as a pure ev for city driving. The fear of power loss without control is extremely upsetting, and consequently, not getting the value of vehicle. My spouse will not drive the vehicle as driver or passenger if the trip is to exceed 20 miles in one direction.my gas savings has dropped considerably as i am unable to risk running out of ev before my trip ends.this vehicle has been taken to the dealer 3 times, and inspected by honda of america.they deny there is anything wrong with the vehicle.

I am submitting my onlycomplaint about my new honda clarity.this is a known issue by honda that is all over the internet yet it appears honda is ignoring the issue.the clarity looses power when it converts from battery to engine power upon low battery status.this is drastically noticed if the vehicle is traveling at a high speed such as the 75 mph speed limit of our interstates in nebraska or if the vehicle is under hard acceleration such as when i was entering the interstate from the on ramp.instead of merging into 75 mph traffic i became an accident waiting to happen as the car would not accelerate beyond about 40-50 mph for approximately 1 mile. My dealer said honda is denying that this is a problem even though there are many similar complaints on the internet.someone is going to get in a bad accident due to this major manufacturer defect.

I have advised the dealership that i only had about 3 hours of highway miles on my ice but at 6000 miles the car alerted me to bring in my car for service.i want to take care of my car but the mintainance cost and needlesly changing the engine oil and fiter steers me away from trusting the maintanance suggested to us by honda.everyone knows dealers make more profit from maintanance that from sales. If clarity customers (and all hybrid cars that use a combination of electric propulsion and internal cumbustion) are needlessly paying dealerships for maintainance i see a form of customer deciept. I wouldnt be surprised if honda would show me a document proving to dealerships that the sale of this car will make maintainance faster, cheaper, and require less mechanically skilled labor to service - thus allowing the dealership to make the necessary changes to their sevice centers.

With driving with a fully charged battery driving in econ (ev) mode, the internal combustion(ice) came online when stopped at a stop sign. After accelerating, the ice stopped running after a couple of minutes and the car resumed running in ev mode. This repeated several times, and not always when the car was stopped. This behavior has happened several times, but not always.

4 times engine went into extreme high rev like being stuck wide open in first gear with sudden loss of speed twice on the freeway. Extremely dangerous. Reported to honda, they denied everything and maintained that "high revs" is normal as stated in the owners manual. Tis is extreme high revs and sudden loss of speed, it is not normal. 5 or 6 other clarity owners are complaining about this issue and about honda ignoring the issue. I requested through arbitration to be reimbursed as i brought my car for repair 4 times (2 different dealers) and for a multitude of electronic issues related to hv. Honda denied everything and found excuses for every single issue. I was denied reimbursement and now i am still stuck with the same problems that continue every day! i have detailed notes, dates, videos, photos, testimonies of other owners that i would be happy to share. The day of the arbitration the car would not start but arbitrator said he could not use it as it was not part of the original issue. Something needs to be done before someone gets killed driving this vehicle. I even opened a claim with my insurance agency in case i get into an accident because of the car doing whatever it wants. Thanks

Brakes when it wants to middle of traffic. Or braking assist will not kick in and engine jerks.

The contact owns a 2018 honda clarity plug-in hybrid. The contact stated that once the hybrid vehicle finished electric power, it would switch to gas. While in gas mode, the transmission slipped and the vehicle would not accelerate up a hill. In addition, the engine revved extremely hard and would not go into gear. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 4,418. The vin was unknown.

I filled the seven gallon gas tank yesterday, and the dashboard range display calculated the range of the car on gas power as 871 miles. I have been driven mostly on electric battery power, but with only seven gallons of gas in the tank, that range is absurd. New drivers of the vehicles might believe the range and inadvertently strand themselves somewhere.

Loss of power and engine comes on with high revs while car is moving. In hv mode engine revs are continues even though i have 20 miles of ev range.i had power loss twice now in slow speed around 30 miles/hr andt 65 miles/hr

When vehicle is in any mode that require the internal combustion engine, it persistently gets stuck in a high rev, high rpm, state at any speed.this causes power fluctuations and extreme engine noise.this creates challenging and potentially unsafe driving conditions due to the sensitive state of the engine when stuck in this mode.

While i was driving on central ave (from north to south) in phoenix, engine error sign and brake error sign were flashing. Meanwhile, i could not slow down the car as i could not push the brake peddle down. So, i just had to let the car cruise on its own to slow down without brake and finally managed to turn into palm ln for a stop. Luckily, i was not on the highway and could not image what would happen if i drove the car without the control of the brake.

While i was checking the engine oil level, i smelled a strong gasoline odor.since this particular engine has a known oil dilution problem i had oil analysis done and the results came back indicating that there is asignificant level of fuel in the oil which can damage the internal components of the engine and eventually result in an engine failure.i called honda corporate office to register the issue and on feb 24th, i had my oil sampled.i received the results on march 3rd and immediately called honda the same day to share the analysis.i have not received any recourse as of yet and pending a response.

I have only had the car 2 months, but twice so far, while traveling downhillat 45 mph, the engine began to rev to its redline and there was no power to accelerate in hv mode.this was quite dangerous in one instance as i was unable to accelerate onto a highway.

While driving on the interstate through the mountains, the car was able to keep up with traffic at the bottom of the mountain. However, as i approached the summit, no matter how far down i pushed the accelerator pedal, the car would not increase speed. With the pedal completely floored (past the hybrid system click point) the car would still not pickup speed, nor did it sound like the engine was even trying to rev higher. As i kept approaching the summit with the pedal floored, the car started to slowly lose speed. As a result, i was not able to keep with traffic and had to move to the far right lane. During this experience, the car was operating in hybrid mode with about 10% battery charge saved. My previous phev never experienced this type of behavior even though it had less system horsepower and torque. To experience this was disappointing. Not knowing if the car will actually accelerate when i need to is highly disconcerting.

Few times it has happened especially in extreme cold weather, there will be loss of power/acceleration even though you are trying to accelerate the vehicle. While accelerating it will take the command engine rpm will be higher but vehicle is not taking up the speed. Either it will stay to go at low speed or slowly it will starting to halt situation. This has happened few times(about 5-6 times). And in such situation there will some unacceptable noise from engine. One time we were at about 50mph speed but i couldn't accelerate (just like above)and had to stop the car in middle of highway, stop the car (shut the engine) and then start the car it started working fine. This happened mostly when on gas and especially during extreme cold weather. While on fully ev mode it works fine, i have never experienced this problem.

High beam headlights are inadequate.they were initially adjusted too low, but even after adjusting them, they are still too dim.it is very easy to over-drive the reach of the high beams.

The headlamps do not extend out far enough causing a safety concern. I have had them adjusted twice and they still do not extend out enough.

While the vehicle has led headlights, the visibility at night is not the best.this is worse during raining days, especially at night.the car does not have an option for fog lights which could help with this issue. The drl is really just cosmetic

The headlights are totally inadequate. Low beams illuminate road only directly in front of vehicle and not enough further down the road causing an unsafe condition of 'over driving' the headlights. This condition persisted even after having a honda dealer adjust the headlights. In addition the high beams are practically non-existent compared to all other vehicles i have owned. They too are totally inadequate. I cannot believe that they are able to pass a dot test. If they are able to pass a dot test then i would say your test is not stringent enough. Thank you for looking into this to see if it is a severe enough safety issue to require a recall.

The headlights that come with the car are too dim, especially when its raining at night, just forces you to slow down a ton to be able to see things.

The headlights are totally inadequate. Low and high beams illuminate road only directly in front of vehicle and not enough further down the road causing an unsafe condition of over driving the headlights.

The headlights that come with the car are too dim. It becomes a hazard on very dark roads, specially when its raining. Because of thedimness its is also difficult to see when the vehicle drives past you from the opposite direction.it results in vehicle being driven than slower speed limits.

The contact owned a 2018 honda clarity plug-in hybrid. The contact was driving at 35 mph, when he rear-ended another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy and the forward collision warning failed to alert the contact of the vehicle ahead. No medical attention was received. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to call the insurance company. The vehicle failure was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic or dealer. The failure mileage was 25,868.

The hv (hybrid vehicle - gas) fuel range is wildly overinflated. The car has a 7 gallon tank so it should be about 300 miles on a full tank according to the epa estimate. However, it often shows in excess of 800 miles. This is eventually going to cause someone to run out of gas in a dangerous situation, like in a desert or other remote area. According to online forums, the problem seems to affect everyone with this model of car.

Vehicle range calculation is incorrect for highway/long distance travel.the range estimate shows off even when fuel level is very low.for example, when starting a trip it might show 1000 miles range.on the highway, this will count down very quickly, 1 mile driven might count down 4 miles of estimated range.the problem is that this range estimate doesn't update quickly enough to reflect that the plug-in hybrid vehicle is driving on a long trip instead of around town and the range won't be near as much since it isn't adding electricity at home every night.even when the fuel tank gets very low, less than 1 gallon, the estimate will often be off by 2 or 3 times, so it might show 100 mile range when i really have a 40 mile range.this is dangerous as if a driver is in a remote area where gas stations are 50 miles apart, a driver might attempt to drive to the next station not realizing they have inadequate gas level.

When i bought the car, i have a hv range of 340 miles without ev range. So when i get home i started to charge my car. Next morning i have enough ev to travel to work but is not enough to make to work so i have to use some of the hv range. So i charge from home and charge from work and that's my daily routine. Finally after few weeks i have to fill up my tank but my hv range shot up to 729 miles. I was suprise but from the start i was happy but realise later is not true. So start watching my range. When i travel 60 miles you can see the hv drop at least 160 miles. For me that's a little bit scary knowing that you don't know how many miles you have left everytime you drive. There's a possibility you run out of gas. So the second time i fill up my car the hv range shot up to 952 miles. Dealership advise me to charge the car once a day only, and also suggested also just use the gas only first. The honda corp told me that's no problem with the car, don't look at the range but just look at the gauge which there's no way you can tell how much gas miles you have left. For me and other people complaining from honda is a safety issue, you can be driving at freeway and suddenly the car will stop because you run out of gas.

State of driving condition: the car was set in cruise at 70 mph in hv mode (not charge mode). Ev range was 30 mile remaining, approximately 70% of battery remaining. The honda clarity phev spontaneous excessive revving the engine while cruising at a constant speed on flat highway road then the car dropped speed by itself without any car in front.once i notice the car does not have power to regain to set cruising speed, i turned cruising off, switched the car from hv to ev then the engine stop doing high revving. I drove in ev for 2 minutes then switch back to hv then the car regain its power to resume cruising speed. This is a very dangerous situation when drivers did not aware when the car decided to cut its power in hv mode. This is the first time i encounter the situation, but i've noticed many similar complaints from other driver regard to clarity phev spontaneous engine revving on many forum.

We leased a 2018 honda clarity in december of 2017. Since then, the car has lost power several times (over 25 times). Attached are 2 separate video clips showing the car losing power. The car feels like the engine disengages and the revolutions go up, but the car slows down. I have been on the freeway going up a hill, when the engine lost power. We went from 65 mph down to 20 mph. I had to fully stop in the emergency lane and accelerate again to clear the issue.the loss of power has happened on flat residential streets, busy multi-lane highways, while accelerating out of a driveways, and accelerating up large and small hills. Though it has taken awhile to establish a pattern, it appears to happen when the electrical charge falls to 1 or 2 bars. I have taken the car to the dealer over 3 times who updated the software but that has not solved the problem. Even though the dealer has the video clips, the dealer has stated that they have not been able to duplicate or find the problem and recommends that i charge the car every night. This is not the car i purchased. I should be able to plug in the car to charge it or use my engine to charge the car.the dealer is also unwilling to solve my issues or replace the car.

On occasion while braking, the car attempts to move forward even though the brake is applied. The instrument panel has a section divided between power being used and charge being stored as the car is designed to charge the electric battery whenever the brake is applied. When this situation occurs, the brake pedal is firmly applied and the needle on the instrument panel is in the "charging" area. The car attempts to jerk forward and there is shaking/vibration as the applied brake keeping the car in place faces off with the charging system that is trying to have the car move forward for whatever reason. The resolution when this occurs is to release the foot from the brake pedal and immediately apply it again which requires the car to jerk forward momentarily. This occurred in a drive-thru where the car in front was fairly close ahead.

We leased our vehicle in november of 2018. From the test drive and going forward we noticed high engine idle during acceleration but was told the car needed to be charged.(we were never told of anything regarding loss of engine power or acceleration if the battery is low! false advertising!) as the days went by we noticed the issue getting worse and that the revving was actually the car losing power when driving in any condition or driving mode. While driving the car and the battery gets to two bars the car would loose power and will not go over 10 mph. This has happened to my wife on numerous occasions and a few while driving on the highway at speeds of 60 to 70 mph and suddenly the car doesn't want to go and the engine revs and the rpm's go up because the car is loosing power as your stepping on the gas pedal. My wife had to pull over to the side. Thankfully there weren't many cars around her. This is a dangers situation and is not normal! my wife fears for her life and does not like to drive the vehicle!!!. We have brought the car to service and complained about the issue at least 3 times. They claim that they cant duplicate the problem and there's nothing they can do. They just tell us to pick the car up and just send us on our way. This is unacceptable! we've even put in a claim with american honda and so fare they are no help as well! please fix this problem before someone seriously gets hurt or dies!!!

So my wife took the clarity on her regular commute for the first time since a bunch of recalls were performed on the car on friday. Along with a01 service, product updates 18-089, 90, 91 and 97 were performed on the car. She ran into a dangerous situation. I'll list the steps below. Has anyone else encountered this? i plan to report to nhtsa also. - she was driving normally on her way back home in econ mode at around 70 mph or under. Prior to the updates the battery never used to go below 9 or 10% (last two bars). But today it went to no bars left. - the accelerator pedal was not responsive and the speed started dropping to about 40 mph. Luckily no one was close behind her. She switched on her hazards.- she turned on hybrid mode and the car accelerated up again back to highway speeds. It worked normally on the rest of the journey home. So on any day before last week, the car would a) not let the battery go below 2 bars b) keep up speed and automatically switch to hybrid mode once ev mode was unavailable. What happened today was scary. Edit -

In hv mode, up slope, at 2 e bars left, engine revive and loud. But no accelerate. Felt like lost power.

When driving on a steep hill, the car switched from all electric to hybrid mode as it ran out of battery only power.the transmission failed to engage and the engine revs increase as if stuck in neutral.the car slowed from 45 mph to 5 mph, then the car accelerated to 20 remaining 1/2 mile to my residence.the car was evaluated by culver city honda on may 26, 2021.the dealer advised that they were unable to replicate the anomaly or identify failure codes on the on board diagnostic computer.

On steep incline this vehicle rolled violently backwards when i released the emergency brake even when i applied gas to bring it forward have grave concerns as to this vehicles safety on steep hills or inclines also the air vent on the front windshield is very short at times its difficult to keep the windshield from fogging up unless i use the a/c even in cold weather very unsafe as you cannot see the road it gets so bad

After several miles and depletion of electric storage and while climbing a significant grade the transmission felt as if it was slipping not able to climb the grade. Had to make an evasive maneuvercrossing on coming trafficlane (clear)to get off the highway (101) . The vehicle would not pull the hill and slowed to 25 mph on a turn,in a 55 mph zone ,two lane , mountain road.turned off the vehicle, after stopping, no codes or service lights active. After a few minutes i started the vehicle and it was running at a higher rpm than normal ( charging the main batt ? ) climbing the rest of the hill on what felt like electric power and no more than 25 mph, and just taking it slow and feathering the throttle controlling the slip/ rpm, seam to run fine after a few minutes and on level grade would maintain road speed (60 mph) appeared to run better with a slight charge built up, and after a long downhill regenative braking it appeared to do better and ran fine in town ( no grades/ city driving ) to afraid to travel home with several grades from the northcoast redwoods. I opted for a tow , 01/12/2019 waiting for services. The transmission only slips or appears to slip after depleted battery levels and climbing a grade or taking off from a stop quickly (ie.crossing highway 101 eureka, ca or a intersection ) plenty of power and no slipping on a full charge or minimal charge , andon engine power only

I have only had the car 2 months, but twice so far, while traveling downhillat 45 mph, the engine began to rev to its redline and there was no power to accelerate in hv mode.this was quite dangerous in one instance as i was unable to accelerate onto a highway.

Major power loss while in hv charge mode and accelerating up a steep hill from a stop.switchedto ev mode to avoid potential rear end collision.

Hi. My 2018 honda clarity phev suffers a severe drop in power when switching from the electric motor to gas engine.there have been many times when i am driving on the interstate at 60 mph and all of sudden it can barely go 30 mph and the engine is revving very loudly.this issue appears to be worse in cold temperatures.i now have to make sure i am not on the interstate for the switch and sometimes pull over to the side of the road for a few minutes until it passes.please have honda issue a fix for this problem.

Loss of power and engine comes on with high revs while car is moving. In hv mode engine revs are continues even though i have 20 miles of ev range.i had power loss twice now in slow speed around 30 miles/hr andt 65 miles/hr

Vehicle engine responded to accelerator pedal input, but would not travel at greater than 25 miles per hour on slight uphill. Vehicle had been started after being off for approximately two hours. High voltage battery was drained and vehicle was operating exclusively on gas engine. Vehicle had been ion "on" condition for several minutes prior to starting driving. Vehicle had to be pulled into nearby business, since it could not maintain speed with flow of traffic on 50 moh road. Problem resolved after approximately two minutes of slow driving. Issue appears to be related to transmission of power from engine to drive system. Possible that gas engine power is diverted to charging high voltage battery, rather than providing power to wheels.

On the way to school this morning (2/8/2019), my 11 year-old daughter mentioned her seat belt broke (rear driver seat). She moved to the other side of the backseat (rear passenger seat). Once we were stopped, i realized what she meant by broken: the seat belt had completely frayed, broke completely and pulled apart from it's internal housing. Upon further inspection, all three seat belts in the back seat have fraying. The one she mostly used was completely broken. The rear passenger seat belt is not used as often so the fray/cut is about 1/3 of the width of the seat belt. The rear middle seat has the least damage, but is still frayed/cut. No one can now sit in the back seat with faulty seat belts. The housing seems excessively sharp and that's what is causing them to be cut. I called the service department at the dealer asking for a manager, but as of submitting this, i haven't received a return call.

After vehicle has recharged, during paddle shifter deceleration, the brake lights will only activate when using the deceleration paddle shifter to slow the vehicle for the first two or so times it is used.after that the brake lights will not work again while using the deceleration paddle shifter until the vehicle is recharged again.the brake light do function properly while using the foot brake pedal.

At the time of the occurrence the vehicle had been owned for approximately 90 days and had approximately 2500 miles on the odometer.when initially started in a stationary poistion the information display provided multiple apparently spurious alarms and warnings. These warnings continued when the vehicle was in motion. Turning the vehicler off and restarting the vehiclewould not clear the warnings. The display would cycle displaying *adaptive cruise control problem*,*lane departure mitigation system problem*, and *emmissions control system problem*. Addtionally the brake system and lane departure mitigation system malfunction lights and check engine light were illuminatedthe vehicle was taken to a dealer who reset the codes using proprietary hondavehicle analysis software. The warning and codes did not re-appear.the cause for the warnings was not determined.these apparently spurious warnings present a safety concern. They provide a distraction to the driver while cycling on the informaiton display and could cause a driver to ignore valid warnings in the belief they too are spurious.the issue is such that it warrants monitoring by the manufacturer and ntsb to determine the root cause of the problem and frequency of occurrence.

Brakes when it wants to middle of traffic. Or braking assist will not kick in and engine jerks.

After certain drive mile car dash board has loud clicking sound, which doesn't go away for a while even car is turned off.while driving or stoped. Dealership or american honda has no satisfactory answer for the concern. Worry me if vehicle gonna stop on freeway.

I have driven the clarity for 4 months.this has happened three times in heavy traffic with honda sensing turned offand no cruise control.if i am following the car ahead closely and the vehicle ahead slows down , but not enough for an accident, the clarity stops unnecessarily quickly, scaring me and putting me at risk of getting hit from behind.it's scary. I am very capable ofstopping the car on my own and do not need the car overcompensating.if i turn all the safety features off, i do not understand why this is happening.

Paint defect.... In a few week only after i purchased the vehicle i noticed paint peeling at the trunk and also the paint at the roof and the hoodgot discolored, had developed cracks and it appeared that soon will start peeling ..i reported the problem to honda, it was determined that there was defective paint and authorized the painting of the above mentioned sections of the vehicle.however at the time and date of this writing i noticed problem with the paint again on the newly painted surface . I am also concerned for the non painted sections of the vehicle sincethe same defectivepaint was used there is a strong possibility problems might arise in the future and the honda rep already mentioned if anything else goes wrong with the paint again they are not going to do anything anymore for me

The vehicle's computer uses past driving history and fuel state (among possibly other data) to calculate an extimated hv range so that the driver can know approximately how far the vehicle can safely travel before needing to refuel and/or recharge. This function is not working correctly on my vehicle nor on any of the numerous owner's who have posted on insideev forums in the clarity subsection. It appears to be a universal problem.it wildly presents ranges of 100s to 1,000s of miles above what the vehicle is capable of and only gets worse whenever more gas is put in the tank. This is a safety issue because at first the overstated presented range is still somewhat believable and a driver could run out of gas following it and find themselves in a potentially dangerous or life threatening situation if stranded in bad weather. This is a universal problem with all 2018 honda clarity phevs. It's obviously a software miscalculation that could easily be fixed with an update. I hope you will look into this before it causes a tragedy. If you inspect the owner's manual you will see that there is a picture of the display on the dashboard with 2,000+ miles of hv range. Somehow this slipped by honda. Obviously no one is going to believe that the vehicle will go 1,000s of miles between fillups/recharging, but early on when it's just overstating range by a few hundred miles, a driver could believe it and get stranded in a potentially dangerous situation (eg. Weatherwise).thank you for helping keep all of us safe.

Since receiving the leased vehicle i've had it back to the dealer 3 or 4 times for checks on the transmission.the car sporadically disengages gears when applying acceleration, local and highway driving. I've registered the complaint with the service department from the beginning of the lease and was told each time that there was nothing wrong.they never took the transmission (or whatever runs it ) apart to really see what the problem might be. This is true because they could not check into anything like that in the time space of an oil change.also, when i entered the lease, it was never adamantly said that the car should be electrically charged on a regular time frame, that it would run on gas alone. I could find no info in the manual pertaining the necessity of electrically charging the car.

My ac has stopped working twice! first time was sept 2019. I was charged $300 for refrigerant. Second time was april 27, 2020. I was told it was the evaporator core. Honda corp told me it would take 3 months for the part to arrive in ca. I live in palm springs where weather can reach up to 118 degrees.this is very unacceptable. I went on the clarity forums and discovered that many many other owners are experiencing the same a/c issues.

Infotainment issue: screen freezing and / or non responsive. Many honda clarity owners are experiencing this and dealers are aware of owners mentioning this issue.normally, a "tech" issue is expected in this day and age but since the climate control, the rear view camera and the blind spot camera safety mechanisms rely on the main infotainment system screen any type of lag or freezing is a direct hazard to our daily drive and to others around us.it is only a mater of time before someone gets hurt. We are asking honda to proactively fix the issue of lag, freezing and unresponsiveness that the center console entertainment systemscreen regularly exhibits.randomly, when activating the camera feed, the image from the camera will stay frozen on the screen. When a neighbor walked behind my car as i was backing out of my driveway he and his dog were not in the camera feed!furthermore, the "lane watch" camera on the right hand side mirror is meant to show an image of any car or obstacle in your way. A method devised to eliminate the pillar blind spot.in a situation that you merge into a different lane or to an exit ramp a frozen image of a clear lane will resault in an accident.the image i attached is from the day i picked up my car from the honda dealership. The image was supposed to be of my reverse camera but instaed a different backgroung image was displayed.also notice the steering reverse trojectory lines were overlayed on that image. It is only a matter of time before an unfortunate situation occurs involving someone or their families lives. I pray that honda will address this issue.

On january 13, 2019 my wife and i were driving on a 1.5 hour trip on a 4-lane freeway.the outside temperature was 30 degrees.while driving at 70 mph, suddenly the internal combustion engine revved up dramatically while simultaneously the car started slowing down uncontrollably.my wife, who was driving, would push the accelerator and the engine would rev up, but the car continued to slow down.it was as if the wheels had become disconnected from the power source.fortunately, there was little traffic on the road so we were able to put on our emergency flashers and gradually ease off the side of the freeway and safely come to a controlled stop.we turned the car off, let it sit for a couple minutes, then re-started it.as we tried to accelerate back onto the highway, the car would move forward some, then the wheels would seem to disconnect again and the engine rev while she tried to accelerate, then she would let up, try again, etc., over and over again, until gradually the car began to pick up speed.this was a very dangerous and scary situation.eventually we got the car returned to full speed and drove without further incident to our destination. After the car had been parked for approximately 5-6 hours, we started the car and attempted to head back home.it got out of the parking lot fine, but as we began driving on a 2-lane road around the 20-30 mph speed the same problem re-emerged.the engine would rev as my wife pushed on the accelerator, but the speed of the car would decrease ' allowing no control of the speed of the car whatsoever.again, by slowly pushing and releasing on the accelerator the car gradually 'engaged' appropriately and eventually got up to normal speed and we were able to return home without further incident.if the same problems had occurred while on a busy freeway it would have been a life-threatening situation.

My car was in motion while preparing to park in an outdoor parking space at work only going 5 mph or less. I turned my car slightly to the right since the parking space is at an angle when my car accelerated unexpectedly and i crashed into a fence and electrical pole. My brakes did not work and the air bags did not deploy. If it were not for the electrical pole my car would of run into a home. My car is currently at a honda dealership. The serviceman told me that no codes popped up when running a diagnostic test. They also took the car for a test drive and stated the car showed no issues. They are going to keep it overnight to test one more time. The man stated honda could not do anything unless a light came up on the dashboard.i do not feel safe in this car and i'm afraid this may happen again. Deciding of making a complaint to corporate.

Vehicle was in a parking garage, when making a right turn at the top of a ramp traveling at about 5 mph, the vehicle went into max acceleration. There was no braking effect when the brakes were applied. After a little over a hundred feet the vehicle crashed into 2 parked cars which were totaled also. The car had crash mitigation but it did not appear to activate. The airbags deployed so the driver had only minor injuries. Hopefully an analysis of the black box will enable honda to fix this problem.

The contact owns a 2018 honda clarity plug-in hybrid. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle lost the ability to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. All the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.

I feel that it should bea requirement for safety sake's,that all passenger cars come with spare tire. People waiting 2-3 hours alongside the road in the dark to get a tire replacementpresentsa safety issue for them and other motorist.
